IB Home Tutor in Jumeirah Village Triangle

Parents searching for an IB home tutor in Jumeirah Village Triangle are usually looking at one specific problem: a Paper 2 mark that will not move, or an Internal Assessment with four weeks left on it. This page answers that at syllabus level — which components carry which weighting, which command terms students misread, and what the Dubai market charges per hour. Lessons are delivered one-to-one over live video on Gulf Standard Time. IB Gram does not send tutors to homes anywhere in the UAE.

  • Component weightings quoted from the published IB subject guides
  • AED market rate bands attributed to the providers that publish them
  • Cambridge and Pearson session dates taken from the awarding bodies
  • IA, EE and TOK work stays the student's own writing throughout

IB & IGCSE in Jumeirah Village Triangle

Start from the syllabus, not from the postcode

Jumeirah Village Triangle sits between Al Khail Road and Sheikh Mohammed Bin Zayed Road, a grid of villa clusters and low-rise apartments wrapped around three district parks. Families here send children to Sunmarke School and Arcadia Global School inside the community, and to JESS Arabian Ranches, Nord Anglia International School Dubai, GEMS Metropole and Fairgreen International School within a short drive. Several of those schools run the IB Diploma; several run IGCSE first and split at sixteen. That mix is why an IB home tutor in Jumeirah Village Triangle gets asked for so often, and why the request is almost never about the whole Diploma.

It is about one component. A Chemistry HL student is losing marks on Paper 2 extended response because they write mechanisms without curly arrows. A Mathematics: Analysis and Approaches SL student can differentiate but cannot read what Paper 1 is asking when the question says 'hence' rather than 'hence or otherwise'. A Biology student has a 12-page Internal Assessment and a Criterion D score of 2 out of 6 because the evaluation discusses human error instead of the limitations of the method. None of those problems are solved by a tutor who happens to live four minutes away in Jumeirah Village Circle. They are solved by somebody who has marked that component.

So this page is built the other way round from most tutoring pages. Rather than describing a neighbourhood, it sets out what the IB actually assesses: the papers, the percentages, the criterion letters, the word limits and the places where students in Dubai schools reliably lose marks. Where a figure appears, it carries the source it came from. Where something could not be verified — IB session dates, which ibo.org blocks automated checking of — the page says so instead of inventing one.

The delivery model is stated plainly at the top because it changes what you should expect. Tuition for UAE families runs one-to-one over live video, timed to Gulf Standard Time, with a shared whiteboard and a recording the student keeps. IB Gram does not operate home visits in the UAE; that service exists only in India. The practical consequence is that a Triangle family is choosing from a pool of IB subject specialists rather than from the handful of tutors willing to drive into JVT at 17:30 on a weekday, and a Physics HL specialist is worth considerably more to a Year 13 student than geographical closeness.

What follows is the detail: subject-by-subject assessment structures, a mark-loss diagnosis table, the AED bands the Dubai market actually charges, a direct comparison between a home visit and an online session in this specific community, the Cambridge and Pearson examination calendar counted backwards from results day, the KHDA position on school inspection and mandatory subjects, and the academic-honesty line that separates teaching from malpractice. Fourteen questions at the end answer the things parents ask on the phone before booking anything.

If you want the short version: identify the component, not the subject. Then find somebody who knows that component's mark scheme. Everything else on this page is support for that one sentence.

At a glance

  • Diploma assessment is component-weighted — Paper 3 alone is 24% of the HL Chemistry grade
  • Internal Assessment counts 20% in the sciences and 20% in Mathematics at both levels
  • The Extended Essay has a 4,000-word upper limit; examiners stop reading beyond it
  • Sunmarke School and Arcadia Global School sit inside Jumeirah Village Triangle itself
  • Dubai private schools must teach Arabic, Islamic Education and Social Studies alongside the IB
  • Sessions run on Gulf Standard Time; the first diagnostic lesson is free
IB programmes

Every IB programme stage, mapped to UAE school years

The IB runs as four separate programmes, and a Jumeirah Village Triangle parent usually needs only the one their child is in. The differences matter because the assessment model changes completely between them: PYP and MYP are internally assessed against published criteria, while the Diploma is externally examined.

PYPAges 3-12 · FS1 to Year 6

Primary Years Programme

The PYP is organised around six transdisciplinary themes rather than subject timetables, and there are no external examinations. Assessment is teacher-led and continuous, ending in the Year 6 Exhibition — a student-driven inquiry presented to the school community. Tutoring at this stage is about underlying fluency: number bonds, written methods, reading stamina and the habit of explaining reasoning aloud. A tutor who tries to teach a PYP child content in exam-style blocks is working against the programme.

Fairgreen International School in The Sustainable City and Greenfield International School in Dubai Investments Park both run the PYP within reach of Jumeirah Village Triangle, and both are inspected by KHDA on the same six-band scale as every other Dubai private school. Parents in the Triangle often ask for PYP support in English writing, where the gap between spoken fluency and written structure is widest in a multilingual community.

MYPAges 11-16 · Years 7-11

Middle Years Programme

The MYP assesses eight subject groups against four criteria each, lettered A to D, every one marked out of 8 and converted to a 1-7 grade by published boundaries. In Mathematics the criteria are Knowing and understanding, Investigating patterns, Communicating, and Applying mathematics in real-life contexts. Most mark loss in MYP is in Criterion C or D, where students solve the problem correctly and then fail to communicate or contextualise it. The programme ends with the Personal Project, assessed against its own criteria.

The MYP-to-Diploma transition is the most common reason a Jumeirah Village Triangle family calls in Year 11. MYP mathematics does not drill algebraic manipulation the way IGCSE does, so a student arriving in DP1 on Analysis and Approaches often has strong reasoning and weak fluency. That gap is closable in roughly eight to twelve sessions if it is identified before the first DP1 internal assessment, and considerably harder afterwards.

DPAges 16-19 · Years 12-13

Diploma Programme

Six subjects, three at Higher Level and three at Standard Level, plus Theory of Knowledge, the Extended Essay and Creativity, Activity, Service. Each subject is graded 1-7, with up to three bonus points from the TOK and EE combination, giving a 45-point maximum. Every subject carries an internally assessed component worth 20-25%, and the rest is externally examined. The grade is a weighted sum of components, which is why diagnosing the weak component matters more than general revision.

JESS Arabian Ranches, Nord Anglia International School Dubai and North London Collegiate School Dubai all offer the Diploma within a reasonable drive of the Triangle, and Dubai added three new IB-curriculum private schools for the 2026-27 intake as part of 16,846 new places across seven openings. UAE candidates sit the May session; IB session and results dates are not published on this page because ibo.org blocks automated verification and a wrong date is worse than none.

CPAges 16-19 · Years 12-13

Career-related Programme

The CP combines at least two Diploma courses with a career-related study, a reflective project and a four-part core covering personal and professional skills, service learning and language development. It is far rarer than the Diploma in the UAE but appears in a small number of Dubai schools. Tutoring demand concentrates on the Diploma subjects taken within it and on the reflective project, which is marked against its own criteria rather than examined.

Because CP cohorts in Dubai are small, a family in Jumeirah Village Triangle looking for CP support will almost never find a locally resident tutor who has taught that exact combination. This is the clearest case for online delivery: the pool that matters is the pool of people who have taught the course, not the pool within driving distance of Al Khail Road.

Subject coverage

IB and IGCSE subjects we tutor

These are the Diploma subjects most requested by families around Jumeirah Village Triangle, with what each component actually tests and where the marks go missing. Weightings are from the published IB subject guides; levels are listed because the paper structure differs between them.

Mathematics: Analysis and Approaches

HL and SL

Paper 1 is sat without a calculator, which is where most of the damage happens: students who rely on a GDC for sketching and solving lose marks on curve behaviour and exact values. HL adds Paper 3, a two-question extended investigation worth 20% of the grade and unlike anything in the textbook. The Exploration carries 20% at both levels.

Mathematics: Applications and Interpretation

HL and SL

Calculator-permitted throughout, statistics-heavy, and routinely underestimated. The common failure is treating AI as the easier route and then meeting hypothesis testing, chi-squared and regression with no statistical vocabulary. HL AI includes graph theory and matrices. Check the degree prerequisite before choosing: several engineering programmes specify AA.

Physics

HL and SL

Paper 1 splits into multiple choice and data analysis; Paper 2 is extended response; HL Paper 3 covers experimental technique and an option topic. Marks are lost in explanation questions where students describe what happens instead of naming the law and applying it, and in uncertainty work, where propagation rules are half-remembered.

Chemistry

HL and SL

Organic mechanisms and energetics carry the most lost marks. Examiners want curly arrows drawn from the correct electron source, lone pairs shown, and intermediates charged correctly. Bonding questions reward precise language about intermolecular forces. The Internal Assessment is 20%, and weak evaluations cost more than weak data.

Biology

HL and SL

Content volume is the problem, not difficulty. Students who can recite a process often cannot answer a command term like 'distinguish' or 'outline' within the mark allocation. Data-based questions in Paper 2 reward reading the axes before the question. HL adds depth in plant biology, genetics and physiology.

Economics

HL and SL

Diagrams carry marks on their own: correctly labelled axes, shifted curves, and the new equilibrium marked. The three internally assessed commentaries use real published articles and are capped at 800 words each. HL adds quantitative Paper 3, where arithmetic slips cost more than theory gaps.

English A: Language and Literature

HL and SL

Paper 1 is guided textual analysis of unseen non-literary texts; Paper 2 is a comparative essay on studied works. HL adds the 1,200-1,500 word HL Essay. The Individual Oral links a global issue to one literary and one non-literary extract, and most students under-prepare the extract selection rather than the talking.

Business Management

HL and SL

Tool-based answers win marks: Ansoff, Boston Matrix, break-even and ratio analysis applied to the stimulus rather than described. HL Paper 3 responds to a social-enterprise case. The Internal Assessment differs by level, and students often pick a company they cannot get real data on.

Computer Science

HL and SL

Paper 1 covers systems fundamentals and computational thinking; Paper 2 is databases, modelling and simulation, or similar option content. The Solution — a working program with documented design — is internally assessed. Pseudocode conventions in the IB's own notation trip up students who only write Python.

Theory of Knowledge

Core

Two assessed pieces: the exhibition of three objects with a 950-word maximum commentary, and a 1,600-word essay on a prescribed title. TOK contributes up to three bonus points with the Extended Essay. Students lose marks by writing about the objects rather than about the knowledge question the objects illustrate.

How sessions run

Tutoring formats built around UAE school timetables

Three ways a Jumeirah Village Triangle family can structure IB support. All three are delivered one-to-one over live video on Gulf Standard Time, and the right one depends on how far away the next assessment is.

Weekly one-to-one through the year

A fixed slot, same tutor, same subject, running across both Diploma years. This is the format that moves a grade rather than rescuing a paper, because the tutor sees the student's own classwork week by week and can connect a Paper 2 weakness to the topic it came from. Most families start with one subject and add a second only if the first is working.

  • Same tutor for the full term, so no repeated diagnosis
  • Session recording and notes kept for revision
  • Homework set against the school's own scheme of work
  • Pause available during school examination weeks

Component repair before an exam series

A short block aimed at one named component — HL Paper 3, Paper 1 without a calculator, the data-analysis section — worked entirely through past questions and mark schemes. Six to ten sessions is typical. The tutor works from the student's own marked scripts, so the first session is spent reading errors rather than teaching topics.

  • Starts from the student's marked mocks, not from the syllabus front page
  • Past-paper questions referenced to the official sources, never redistributed
  • Written diagnosis after session one listing the specific error patterns
  • Twice-weekly scheduling available in the final weeks

IA, EE and TOK process coaching

Structured supervision of the internally assessed work against the published criteria, with the student doing all the writing. The tutor helps narrow a research question, checks that the method can generate the data the criteria need, and gives feedback on drafts. What the tutor will not do is write, rewrite or edit a passage into existence.

  • Criterion-by-criterion feedback using the subject guide's own descriptors
  • Word and page limits checked before the draft gets long
  • Referencing and citation practice to the school's required style
  • All submitted work remains entirely the student's own

What IB and IGCSE study actually looks like in Jumeirah Village Triangle

01

What 'IB home tutor in Jumeirah Village Triangle' actually returns

  • Home visits in JVT exist in the market and typically price at AED 200-500 per hour
  • IB Gram's UAE delivery is online one-to-one only; home visits are an India-only service
  • The binding constraint on a home visit is tutor pool, not price
  • Sessions are scheduled on Gulf Standard Time around the JVT school run

Searching for an IB home tutor in Jumeirah Village Triangle returns three different things dressed as one. The first is individual tutors advertising home visits across JVT, JVC and Al Barsha South, usually at AED 200-500 an hour with travel folded in. The second is agencies that will dispatch somebody to a Triangle address. The third is online platforms, which is what IB Gram is. The listings look similar; the service is not.

The honest answer to the search is that home tutoring in this part of Dubai is widely available and reasonably priced, and that its real constraint is not money but matching. A tutor who will drive into Jumeirah Village Triangle on a Tuesday at 17:00 is drawn from a radius of a few kilometres. Within that radius, the number of people who have taught IB Chemistry HL Paper 3, or marked a Mathematics AA Exploration against Criterion E, is small. For a general primary top-up that does not matter. For a DP2 student eight weeks out from a Group 4 paper, it is the whole question.

IB Gram delivers one-to-one tuition to Jumeirah Village Triangle families over live video, on Gulf Standard Time, with a shared whiteboard the student can write on and a recording afterwards. There are no home visits in the UAE. We say that at the top of the page rather than in the small print, because the alternative — letting a parent book and then discover it — is the single most common complaint in this market.

What the online model buys is the specialist. A Triangle family gets the person who has taught that exact component, not the person who lives nearest to the second roundabout. The rest of this page is the detail of what that specialist actually works on.

02

Diploma assessment structure: where the percentages sit

A Diploma grade is a weighted sum of components, and almost every student who is stuck is stuck on one of them. Knowing which one changes what the tutoring does. A student at 4 in Chemistry HL with a solid Paper 1 and a collapsing Paper 2 needs extended-response technique, not more content. A student with a strong Paper 2 and a weak Internal Assessment needs criterion work, which is a completely different activity.

The table below sets out the components for the subjects most requested around Jumeirah Village Triangle. The figures are from the published IB subject guides. What it makes visible is the size of the internally assessed component: 20% in the sciences and in Mathematics, and in the sciences it is marked by the school and moderated by the IB. That 20% is the most controllable mark on the page, and it is the one students most often leave until the term it is due.

The second thing the table makes visible is HL Paper 3. In the sciences it is a distinct paper covering experimental technique and option content; in Mathematics AA and AI it is a two-question extended investigation worth a fifth of the grade. Students who have revised the syllabus thoroughly and never practised a Paper 3 walk into it unprepared, and Dubai school mock papers do not always include one.

Use the table diagnostically. Find the component your child's last report is weakest on, read what it tests, and start there.

Where IB students in Dubai schools actually lose marks

Mark loss is patterned, not random. After enough marked scripts the same half-dozen errors appear across every cohort, and they are specific enough to be fixed in a handful of sessions once named. This is the section that most tutoring pages replace with a sentence about building confidence.

The largest single category is command-term misreading. The IB publishes its command terms with defined meanings: 'state' wants no working, 'outline' wants a brief account, 'explain' wants reasons or causes, 'discuss' wants a balanced review, 'evaluate' wants judgement with evidence. A student who answers 'evaluate' with a description has written a correct paragraph and scored at the bottom of the band. The fix is mechanical — annotate the command term before writing — and it transfers across every subject.

The second is presentation of reasoning. In Mathematics, method marks exist and are awarded for visible steps; a correct answer with no working loses them. In Chemistry, a mechanism without curly arrows from the correct electron source scores nothing even when the product is right. In Physics, uncertainty propagation rules get half-applied. In Economics, an unlabelled diagram is worth less than a labelled one even where the analysis is identical.

The third is the Internal Assessment evaluation. Criterion D in the sciences asks for conclusion and evaluation, and students write about human error and time constraints when the criterion wants discussion of methodological limitations and specific, realistic improvements. It is 20% of the grade and it is the part a tutor can legitimately help with most — by teaching what the criterion rewards, while the student writes every word.

What IB tutoring costs around Jumeirah Village Triangle

Start with the monthly number, because that is the one a household budget actually meets. A single weekly hour at the qualified-online band works out between AED 600 and AED 1,200 a month on Bestimate's 2026 Dubai estimates, and an exam-year specialist on the same weekly pattern lands between AED 1,000 and AED 2,000 or above. Published monthly packages in this market sit around AED 799 for eight online sessions and AED 1,599-1,799 for four two-hour in-home sessions.

Those monthly figures decompose into hourly bands that providers publish openly. EdFlik advertises from AED 45-65 an hour and Tutopiya from AED 33-52 for budget online tuition, generally university students or non-specialists. Unitors publishes IGCSE tuition from AED 150 and IB from AED 200. Bestimate's rate table puts in-home one-to-one visits at AED 180-350 and independent home tutors at AED 200-500 with travel included. TutorChase quotes AED 270 for specialist IB work, and BartyED sits at AED 650 for a premium named tutor.

Three things are worth noticing in that spread. The first is that the in-home premium is real but modest in absolute terms — roughly AED 30-150 an hour over an equivalent online session — and it buys travel, not teaching. The second is that the top of the market is not where the IB specialists necessarily are; AED 650 buys a name as often as a component expert. The third is that most of the Dubai market publishes no price at all, so a parent comparing quotes is usually comparing two numbers against an unknown distribution.

IB Gram does not publish a fixed hourly rate on this page, because the rate depends on subject, level and how urgent the work is, and a number invented for a landing page would be worse than none. Use the table as the market context, then take the free diagnostic lesson and get a quote against the actual component. Every figure below is the provider's own published rate, read in October 2026.

A home visit in the Triangle versus an online session, compared honestly

The comparison below is about this community specifically, because the arithmetic changes with geography. Jumeirah Village Triangle is well connected by Al Khail Road and Sheikh Mohammed Bin Zayed Road, but a tutor driving in from Dubai Marina or Mirdif between 16:00 and 18:30 is budgeting forty to sixty minutes each way in term time. That round trip is paid for somewhere — in the rate, in a two-hour minimum booking, or in a tutor who arrives tired and leaves early.

Against that, a home visit has genuine advantages worth naming. A younger child who cannot yet self-manage a screen works better with an adult in the room. A student who needs physical apparatus handled, or whose handwriting has to be corrected in real time, is served well by presence. Families who want a parent in earshot find in-person easier to supervise. None of that is marketing — it is why the in-home market in Dubai exists and charges a premium.

What the online format changes is the size of the pool and the shape of the session. The pool stops being 'tutors who will drive to JVT' and becomes 'tutors who have taught this component'. Sessions can run in forty-five or sixty-minute blocks instead of the two-hour minimum travel makes necessary, and they can be scheduled at 20:00 after a late school activity without anybody driving at night. The recording means a revision pass in April costs nothing extra.

IB Gram offers only the online version in the UAE. The table below lays out both sides so the choice is made on the facts rather than on a sales line.

The examination calendar counted backwards

Dates are where tutoring plans fail. A family starts in March for a May sitting and discovers the Internal Assessment deadline passed in January. Counting backwards from results day rather than forwards from today is the fix, and it is worth doing on paper once at the start of each Diploma year.

For the IGCSE qualifications most Triangle students take before the Diploma, the series are concrete and published. Cambridge International runs IGCSE, O Level and International A Level in a June series and a November series, with Primary and Lower Secondary Checkpoint tests in March, May and October. Pearson Edexcel International GCSE runs in May/June and November. One warning that matters: Cambridge's February/March series is offered to India only, so no UAE candidate sits it. Every centre is allocated to one of six administrative zones, and Cambridge states that it is essential to use the correct version of the timetable for your zone, and that it cannot accept responsibility for candidates who miss an exam after using the wrong one.

Published results timings give a sense of the lag. Pearson's June 2026 International GCSE results went to centres on 19 August 2026 and to students on 20 August 2026, and November 2025 results reached students on 22 January 2026. The November 2026 final timetable ran from late October to 19 November 2026. Pearson publishes provisional timetables well ahead of each series, which is exactly why a page like this should link the live official timetable rather than restate dates that can be revised.

For the IB itself, UAE candidates sit the May session. This page publishes no IB session or results date: ibo.org returns an error to automated checking, so nothing could be verified from the IB directly, and a date a parent plans around has to be right. Confirm it with your school's IB coordinator or on ibo.org. The internal deadlines — IA submission, Extended Essay drafts, TOK exhibition — are set by your school and are the ones that actually bite first.

KHDA, inspection bands and the mandatory UAE subjects

Dubai's private schools are regulated by the Knowledge and Human Development Authority, which u.ae describes as responsible for enhancing and overseeing the quality of private education in the emirate. In 2024-25 that sector held 387,441 students across 227 private schools offering 17 different curricula, with UK curricula at 37% of enrolment, Indian at 26%, US at 14% and the IB at 7%. For a Jumeirah Village Triangle parent, that last figure is the practical one: IB schools are a minority of a very large market, which is why the IB-specialist tutor pool within any one neighbourhood is thin.

KHDA inspects annually on a six-band scale running from Outstanding down to Very Weak, and publishes the reports. The band is useful but blunt. What is more useful to a tutoring decision is the subject-level commentary inside the report, which often names the exact weakness a cohort has — attainment in mathematics, or progress in Arabic as an additional language. Read that section before deciding which subject to fund.

The second KHDA point is one almost no tutoring page in this market mentions. Arabic, Islamic Education and Social or Moral Studies are mandatory in all Dubai private schools regardless of the licensed international curriculum, and KHDA's requirements had to be implemented by the start of the 2025-26 academic year. Schools must organise separate classes for Arabs and non-Arabs in Arabic as a first language, Islamic Education and Social Studies, and combined classes for the two groups are strictly prohibited because the curriculum expectations and language of instruction differ. KHDA also requires that all teachers of Islamic Education and Arabic hold appropriate KHDA approval to teach those subjects.

Two consequences follow for tutoring. Mandatory-subject instructional time is calculated on a 40-minute lesson unit, with schools free to vary lesson length provided the weekly total is met and any mandatory-subject lesson advised to run at least 25 minutes — so the Arabic load on a Triangle timetable is fixed, not optional, and it competes with Diploma revision for the same evenings. And for those subjects the use of any different or additional content without prior permission from the Ministry of Education is strictly prohibited, which constrains how any Arabic or Islamic Education support can be described. Note also that a tutoring operation with premises and staff in Dubai needs a KHDA Educational Services Permit; IB Gram holds no such permit and makes no claim to KHDA approval.

Academic honesty: the line a tutor must not cross

  • A tutor teaches, reviews and gives feedback; the student writes every submitted word
  • Criterion descriptors come from the official subject guide, quoted not paraphrased loosely
  • Past papers and mark schemes are referenced at source, never redistributed
  • Any offer to supply a completed IA, EE or TOK essay should end the conversation

This section exists because the market around it is not clean. At least one provider ranking for UAE IB searches sells completed Internal Assessments outright. Buying one is academic misconduct under IB rules, and the consequence lands on the student — not on the seller — up to and including loss of the Diploma. Any page offering to write your child's IA is offering to put their qualification at risk.

What a tutor may legitimately do with internally assessed work is substantial. They can explain what each criterion rewards, using the subject guide's own descriptors. They can help narrow a research question from something unmanageable to something a student can actually gather data on. They can look at a method and point out that it will not generate enough data points for the statistical treatment the student has planned. They can read a draft and say that Criterion D discusses human error where the descriptor asks for methodological limitations. They can teach citation and referencing. All of that is teaching.

What a tutor must not do is produce the work. Not write a paragraph for the student to insert. Not rewrite a conclusion so it reads better. Not supply a worked Exploration for adaptation. Not line-edit a draft into a different standard of English than the student can produce. The distinction is simple in practice: after the session, has the student written every word that will be submitted? If not, the line has been crossed.

The same holds for examination material. IB, Cambridge and Pearson syllabus documents, past papers, mark schemes and grade-boundary tables are copyright. We reference and link them at their official sources; we do not reproduce or distribute them. A tutor who hands over a folder of scanned mark schemes is creating a copyright problem, and in the case of unreleased material, a malpractice exposure.

Ministry of Education equivalency after the Diploma

Families in Jumeirah Village Triangle planning on a UAE university need to know about equivalency early, because it is a documentary process with subject-count rules, and discovering those rules in Year 13 is late. Equivalency is the Ministry of Education's recognition of a foreign secondary certificate, and it is required for admission to UAE institutions and for some employment routes.

For the British track the rules are published and specific. A student must show one accredited subject at Advanced Level with a grade of no less than E, or two accredited subjects at Advanced Subsidiary Level at the same grade, and must pass five accredited subjects in GCSE or IGCSE certificates with a grade of no less than E or grade 3. Arabic and Islamic education are not included among those five required subjects. That five-subject figure is worth holding on to: a competitor page ranking for UAE searches states that candidates must take six, which is wrong, and a parent who plans around it over-subscribes their child by a subject.

For the American track, English proficiency requires a score of 5 in the IELTS academic test, 61 in the TOEFL iBT, or 450 in the reading and writing section of the SAT, and mathematics requires at least 450 in the SAT Math test before applying. For the IB, this page publishes no points threshold. The sourced article does not state one, and no figure has been read on moe.gov.ae, so inventing one would be exactly the error described above with a different number on it.

Two cautions. IB Gram does not perform, submit or guarantee equivalency — it is a Ministry process and you deal with the Ministry or the emirate's attestation authority directly. And tutoring is not a requirement for equivalency, university admission or school progression. Anybody telling you otherwise is selling urgency.

Starting, and what happens when the specialist is busy

  • Send a marked script or report before the diagnostic lesson, not after
  • Written diagnosis within a day of the free first session
  • One to three working days to match a mainstream Diploma subject
  • Coverage limits disclosed before booking, never after
  • Ramadan sessions move to post-Iftar slots on request

The process is short. You tell us the subject, the level, the component that is weak and the school. We ask for a marked piece of work — a mock script, a returned IA draft, a report with subject comments. A specialist runs a free diagnostic lesson, and within a day you get a written note saying what the error pattern is and how many sessions it plausibly takes. Then you decide. Nothing is charged before that note exists.

Availability deserves an honest paragraph, because no competitor in this market gives one. Common Diploma subjects — Mathematics AA and AI, Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Economics, English A, Business Management — have deep cover for UAE evening slots, and a match usually takes one to three working days. Narrower courses are different. A rarely taken Group 2 language at HL, a specific Computer Science option, or a Career-related Programme reflective project may have no UAE-resident specialist free at all, in which case the match comes from our India-based IB faculty teaching on Gulf Standard Time, and we tell you that before you book rather than after.

Scheduling around a Jumeirah Village Triangle week is usually straightforward. Term-time slots from 16:30 work for families whose children are at Sunmarke School or Arcadia Global School inside the community; families driving back from the Arabian Ranches or Dubai Hills schools generally want 17:30 or later. During Ramadan, sessions shift to post-Iftar timing, typically 20:30 to 22:00, and the schedule flexes again around school examination weeks when students need the evenings for their own revision.

One more honest note on permits, because parents ask. Private tutoring in the UAE is regulated: the MoHRE private tuition work permit was introduced by Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023, it is granted free of charge for two years, and eligible applicants include teachers registered in government or private schools, government and private-sector employees, unemployed individuals, school students aged 15 to 18, and university students. Individuals offering private tutoring without a permit from MoHRE are subject to fines and penalties outlined in the applicable laws; no fine schedule is published, so no figure is quoted here. The application route is MoHRE's own 'Issuance of a New Work Permit - Private Tutor Licensing' service, with no listed fee and a two-working-day completion time.

Where we tutor

Nearby areas we cover around Jumeirah Village Triangle

Students taking online lessons from Jumeirah Village Triangle sit alongside families across the Dubailand and Arabian Ranches belt. The notes below are about session timing and school mix, because those are the two things that actually change between one of these communities and the next.

Jumeirah Village Triangle

Villa clusters and low-rise apartments either side of Al Khail Road, with Sunmarke School and Arcadia Global School inside the community. Short school runs mean a 16:30 start is realistic for most families here.

Arabian Ranches

Feeds Ranches Primary School and JESS Arabian Ranches, one of the longest-established IB Diploma providers in Dubai. Older cohort, heavier DP1 and DP2 demand, and sessions usually requested after 17:00.

Arabian Ranches 2

Newer villa phases with a younger age profile, so MYP and IGCSE requests outnumber Diploma ones. Families often ask for two children in different year groups to be scheduled back to back.

Arabian Ranches 3

The most recently handed-over phase, still filling. School runs reach further, which pushes realistic session starts to 17:30 or later on weekdays during term.

Dubai Hills Estate

GEMS Wellington Academy Al Khail and Kings' School Dubai sit on this side, with a strong British-curriculum intake that moves into either A Level or the Diploma at sixteen.

Motor City

GEMS Metropole School anchors the community, British curriculum through IGCSE. Diploma students here generally travel out, which makes evening online sessions the practical option.

Dubai Sports City

Victory Heights Primary School and Bradenton Preparatory Academy are both inside the development. Primary-heavy, so PYP and lower MYP enquiries dominate.

DAMAC Hills

Serviced by schools in the surrounding Dubailand corridor rather than inside the community. Longer commutes make the 18:00 and 19:00 slots the busiest in this postcode.

Town Square

Younger family profile and a long drive to the established IB schools. Online delivery removes a round trip that can exceed an hour each way in term-time traffic.

Mudon

Close to South View School and the Dubailand school cluster. Families here frequently ask about MYP mathematics and the step up to Diploma sciences.

School ecosystem

IB and Cambridge school communities we support in Jumeirah Village Triangle

Inside and beside Jumeirah Village Triangle

Schools within or immediately adjacent to the Triangle. Two of them sit inside the community itself, which is why primary and lower-secondary enquiries from JVT are often about consolidation rather than exam technique.

  • Sunmarke School
  • Arcadia Global School
  • Arcadia Preparatory School
  • JSS International School
  • Nord Anglia International School Dubai
  • Safa Community School
  • Dubai Heights Academy

The Dubailand and Arabian Ranches belt

The IB Diploma and continuum schools a Triangle family is most likely to be choosing between, together with the British-curriculum schools that feed into the Diploma at sixteen.

  • JESS Arabian Ranches
  • Ranches Primary School
  • Fairgreen International School
  • GEMS Metropole School
  • Victory Heights Primary School
  • South View School
  • Greenfield International School

Schools are named here as context for the local education market only; IB Gram has no affiliation, partnership or endorsement relationship with any of them.

How matching works

From first enquiry to a tutor who fits

  1. 01

    Name the component

Tell us the subject, the level and which component is weak — Paper 1, Paper 3, the Internal Assessment. If you are not sure, send the last report and a marked mock and we will identify it. A page of marked script tells us more than a twenty-minute conversation about how the term has gone.

  2. 02

    Free diagnostic lesson

A subject specialist works through the student's own errors for a full session at no charge. The point is not to teach a topic; it is to find the pattern. Most students show two or three repeating error types, and those are what the plan is built on.

  3. 03

    Written diagnosis and session estimate

Within a working day you get a short note naming the error patterns, the syllabus areas behind them, and an honest estimate of how many sessions it takes. If the answer is six, we say six. If the problem is wider than tutoring can fix in the time left, we say that too.

  4. 04

Fixed weekly slot on Gulf Standard Time

Same tutor, same time, scheduled around the Jumeirah Village Triangle school run and whichever activities already own your evenings. Sessions run 45 or 60 minutes, recordings are kept, and the slot pauses during school examination weeks or shifts to post-Iftar timing in Ramadan.

  5. 05

Review against the next real assessment

Progress is measured on the school's own marked work, not on our exercises. After the next internal assessment or mock we compare the script against the original diagnosis and either close the block, change the focus, or change the tutor if the match is not working.

Why families choose us

What UAE parents tell us matters most

The specialist, not the nearest tutor

Online delivery means the pool is everyone who has taught the component, rather than everyone willing to drive into Jumeirah Village Triangle at 17:00. For a mainstream Diploma subject that widens the choice considerably; for a narrow one it is the difference between a match and no match.

Figures that carry their source

Every AED band on this page is a provider's own published rate with the month it was read. Every regulatory statement is attributed to u.ae, KHDA or MoHRE. Where a number could not be verified — IB session dates, MoE equivalency points for the Diploma — the page says so rather than filling the gap.

Component-level diagnosis before any plan

The first session reads the student's marked work and names the specific error patterns in writing. A plan built on 'struggling with Chemistry' is a plan built on nothing; a plan built on 'loses extended-response marks on mechanisms and energetics' has a measurable endpoint.

Clear academic-honesty boundaries

Tutors teach, review and give feedback on internally assessed work. They do not write, rewrite or edit it to completion, and they do not supply completed coursework. In a market where at least one ranking site sells finished Internal Assessments, that boundary is worth stating in full.

Disclosed coverage limits

If no UAE-based specialist is free for a niche subject, we say so before you book and name where the tutor is based instead. No UAE office, no local branch and no claim of one — the service is online and the page says it in the first paragraph.

Scheduling built for a Dubai term

Slots up to 21:00 so a late school activity does not cost a session, pauses through internal examination weeks, and post-Iftar timing during Ramadan. Recordings stay available, so revisiting a December session in April costs nothing extra.

Questions parents ask

IB and IGCSE tutoring in Jumeirah Village Triangle: your questions answered

Can I get an IB home tutor in Jumeirah Village Triangle who visits the villa?+

Home visits exist in this market and typically price between AED 180 and AED 500 an hour with travel included, going by Bestimate's 2026 Dubai rate table and independent tutor listings. IB Gram does not provide them. Our UAE service is one-to-one tuition over live video on Gulf Standard Time; home visits are something we offer only in India. The practical trade is that you choose from tutors who have taught your child's specific component rather than from those willing to drive into JVT on a weekday evening, and sessions can run as short as 45 minutes because nobody is recovering a journey.

Which schools near Jumeirah Village Triangle actually offer the IB Diploma?+

Inside the community, Sunmarke School and Arcadia Global School serve JVT families on British-curriculum routes. For the Diploma itself, families generally look to JESS Arabian Ranches, Nord Anglia International School Dubai, Fairgreen International School in The Sustainable City and North London Collegiate School Dubai, all within a reasonable drive. Dubai added seven new private schools for the 2026-27 intake, three of them IB-curriculum, creating 16,846 new places. Check the current programme list on each school's KHDA page before assuming, because schools add and retire programmes. We name these schools as market context only and have no affiliation with any of them.

My child is a 4 in Chemistry HL. Which component should we work on first?+

Look at the component breakdown rather than the overall grade. Chemistry Paper 2 is 44% of the grade and Paper 1 is 36%, with the scientific investigation at 20%. A student weak on Paper 2 needs extended-response technique — naming the principle, then applying it, with mechanisms drawn properly. A student weak on Paper 1 usually needs data-analysis practice and faster recall. A student whose papers are fine but whose investigation scored poorly needs criterion work, which is a different activity entirely. Send the marked mock and the first diagnostic session identifies which of the three it is.

How many sessions does a JVT student usually need before a May sitting?+

For one named component with a diagnosed error pattern, six to ten weekly sessions is the normal range, and that holds whether the student is in Jumeirah Village Triangle or anywhere else. Fixing a whole subject from a 3 to a 6 is a two-term project, not an eight-week one. Internal Assessment coaching is usually four to six sessions spread across the drafting period rather than consecutive weeks. The written diagnosis after the free first lesson gives a specific number for your child's case, and if the honest answer is that the time remaining is not enough, it says that.

Is Mathematics Analysis and Approaches or Applications and Interpretation the safer choice?+

Neither is safer in the abstract; they fail different students. AA assesses algebraic fluency and proof, and its Paper 1 is sat without a calculator, so a student who leans on a graphing display calculator struggles. AI is calculator-permitted and statistics-heavy, and students who pick it expecting an easy route meet hypothesis testing and regression with no statistical vocabulary. The decision should be made on the degree prerequisite: several engineering and mathematics programmes specify AA, and some specify HL. Check the admissions pages of the universities on your child's list before the subject-choice form is signed.

What exactly can a tutor do on a Chemistry HL investigation without crossing the line?+

They can teach it; they cannot produce it. At least one site ranking for UAE IB searches sells completed Internal Assessments; under IB academic-honesty rules, submitting one is misconduct and the consequence falls on the student. What a tutor can legitimately do is considerable: explain what each criterion rewards, help narrow a research question to something workable, flag that a method will not produce enough data for the planned analysis, teach referencing, and give feedback on a draft the student wrote. The test is simple — after the session, every submitted word should still be the student's.

Does the Cambridge February or March exam series apply to my child in Dubai?+

No. Cambridge's February/March series is offered to India only. UAE candidates sit the June series and the November series, and Cambridge also runs Primary and Lower Secondary Checkpoint tests in March, May and October. Pearson Edexcel International GCSE runs in May/June and November. One further Cambridge rule matters: every centre is allocated to one of six administrative zones, it is essential to use the correct version of the timetable for your zone, and Cambridge states it cannot accept responsibility for candidates who miss an exam after using the wrong one. Confirm the zone version with your child's exams officer.

Why does this page not give IB exam dates for the May session?+

Because they could not be verified from the IB itself. ibo.org returns an error to automated checking, and an exam date is something a family plans a whole term around, so publishing an unconfirmed one would be worse than publishing none. UAE candidates sit the May session; for the window, the results date and the candidate release time, ask your school's IB coordinator or read ibo.org directly. The dates that will bite you first are in any case internal: the school's own IA submission deadlines, Extended Essay draft dates and TOK exhibition deadlines, all set by the school.

What do Dubai's mandatory Arabic and Islamic Education rules mean for my child's evenings?+

They mean part of the timetable is fixed. Arabic, Islamic Education and Social or Moral Studies are mandatory in all Dubai private schools regardless of the licensed international curriculum, with KHDA's requirements implemented from the start of the 2025-26 academic year. Instructional time is calculated on a 40-minute lesson unit, and KHDA advises any mandatory-subject lesson runs at least 25 minutes. Schools must also run separate classes for Arabs and non-Arabs in Arabic as a first language, Islamic Education and Social Studies — combined classes are strictly prohibited. Practically, that load competes with Diploma revision for the same evenings, so plan tutoring around it.

Should I ask a Jumeirah Village Triangle tutor to show their MoHRE permit?+

Yes, and there is a specific thing to ask for. The MoHRE private tuition work permit was introduced by Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023, it is granted free of charge for two years, and eligible applicants include teachers registered in government or private schools, government and private-sector employees, unemployed individuals, school students aged 15 to 18 and university students. Individuals tutoring without one are subject to fines and penalties outlined in the applicable laws; no fine schedule is published, so no amount should be quoted to you. Ask any individual tutor to show their permit, and apply through MoHRE's 'Issuance of a New Work Permit - Private Tutor Licensing' service if you are the tutor.

Does IB Gram hold a KHDA Educational Services Permit?+

No, and you should treat that phrase with suspicion wherever you see it. A KHDA Educational Services Permit is a specific authorisation issued to training institutes with premises and staff in Dubai: initial approval first, a maximum of six months to complete the permit and licence steps, and annual renewal requested at least 30 days before expiry. IB Gram holds no such permit, has no UAE office or centre, and makes no claim of KHDA, ADEK, SPEA, Ministry, IB or Cambridge approval, accreditation or partnership. We explain what those bodies do; none of them endorses us.

How quickly can you match an IB tutor for a student in Jumeirah Village Triangle?+

For mainstream Diploma subjects — Mathematics AA and AI, Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Economics, English A, Business Management — one to three working days for a UAE evening slot. Narrower courses take longer and sometimes cannot be filled from UAE-resident tutors at all: a rarely taken Group 2 language at HL, a specific Computer Science option, or a Career-related Programme reflective project. When that happens the match comes from our India-based IB faculty teaching on Gulf Standard Time, and we tell you before you book. No competitor in this market publishes a coverage limit, which does not mean they do not have one.

What does a month of IB tutoring realistically cost in Dubai?+

Taking Bestimate's 2026 Dubai estimates for one weekly hour: roughly AED 240-600 a month at the budget end, AED 600-1,200 for a mid-tier qualified tutor, and AED 1,000-2,000 or more for specialist exam-year support. Published package pricing in this market includes around AED 799 a month for eight online sessions and AED 1,599-1,799 for four two-hour in-home sessions. Those are market figures read in October 2026, not ours. We quote against the actual subject, level and urgency after the free diagnostic lesson rather than publishing a rate that would be wrong for most cases.

Can Jumeirah Village Triangle sessions move during Ramadan or school examination weeks?+

Yes, and both are normal requests from Triangle families. During Ramadan sessions shift to post-Iftar timing, usually between 20:30 and 22:00 on Gulf Standard Time, and the length often shortens to 45 minutes. During a school's internal examination weeks most families pause entirely so the student owns their own evenings, then resume with a session spent reading the marked scripts. Because every session is recorded, a paused block does not lose anything: the student can revisit December's work in April without paying for it twice. Tell us the dates at the start of term and the slot is held.

My child is moving from MYP into DP1 next year. What should we fix over the summer?+

Algebraic fluency, almost always. MYP mathematics assesses against four criteria — Knowing and understanding, Investigating patterns, Communicating, and Applying mathematics in real-life contexts — and rewards reasoning and communication rather than drilled manipulation. A student arriving on Analysis and Approaches with strong MYP reasoning and weak fluency hits Paper 1, which is sat without a calculator, and stalls. Eight to twelve sessions of indices, surds, rearrangement, factorising and function notation before DP1 starts closes most of that gap. The same pattern appears in the sciences, where MYP Criterion-based practicals do not prepare a student for quantitative Paper 2 questions.

How many IGCSE subjects does Ministry of Education equivalency actually count?+

Five, not six. Equivalency is a documentary process run by the Ministry of Education and the emirate's attestation authority, and tutoring is not a requirement for it, for university admission or for school progression. Anybody implying otherwise is manufacturing urgency. What is worth knowing early is the British-track rule: five accredited GCSE or IGCSE subjects at no less than E or grade 3, with Arabic and Islamic education excluded from that count, plus one A-Level at no less than E or two AS-Levels at the same grade. A competitor page states six IGCSE subjects are needed; the published figure is five.

Find the component, then find the person who has marked it

If you take one thing from this page, take the diagnostic habit. Open the last report and the last marked mock, and work out which component is losing the marks: Paper 1 or Paper 2, the extended response or the data analysis, the investigation or the examination. Then find somebody who has taught that component to the standard your child needs, and schedule them weekly rather than in a panic in April. For families in Jumeirah Village Triangle that means an online specialist on Gulf Standard Time rather than the nearest available tutor, and it means the first session is spent reading errors rather than selling. Send the marked script and book the free diagnostic lesson.
