IB Tutor near me in Jumeirah Village Triangle

Typing "IB tutor near me" in Jumeirah Village Triangle narrows the search by distance, which is the one variable that has no effect on a Diploma grade. This page does the arithmetic: how small the local specialist pool actually is, what the travel premium buys, and which parts of the Diploma — the core especially — most JVT families leave unsupervised until it is late. Lessons run one-to-one over live video on Gulf Standard Time. IB Gram does not visit homes in the UAE.

IB & IGCSE in Jumeirah Village Triangle

Why distance is the weakest filter you can apply

A parent searching for an IB tutor near me in Jumeirah Village Triangle is applying a sensible-sounding filter to a problem it does not fit. Distance decides how convenient a lesson is. It has no bearing on whether the person teaching it has marked an Extended Essay against Criterion C, or knows that the Theory of Knowledge essay is capped at 1,600 words, or can tell a DP2 student why their History Paper 3 answers read as narrative rather than argument.

The arithmetic is worth laying out. Dubai's private sector holds 387,441 students across 227 schools offering 17 different curricula, and the International Baccalaureate accounts for 7% of enrolment. Apply that proportion to a radius of a few kilometres around the Triangle and the IB-taught population is modest. Now restrict to tutors rather than students, then to tutors who teach the specific subject at the specific level, then to those free at 17:00 on a Tuesday. The pool that survives those four filters is frequently a single digit, and sometimes zero.

None of that is an argument that tutors living near the Triangle are weak, and several are excellent. It is an argument about how many candidates a distance filter leaves standing, and about what happens to a Diploma student when the answer is two. A parent choosing between two people is not choosing; they are accepting whichever is available, and then discovering in February whether that person has taught the paper. It is an argument about sample size. A Mathematics: Applications and Interpretation HL student needs somebody who has taught graph theory and hypothesis testing to that level. If three people within driving distance of JVT have, your choice is between three people. Remove the distance filter and it is between everyone who has.

The second thing this page does is point at the part of the Diploma that most often goes unsupported. Families fund subject tutoring and leave the core alone, yet Theory of Knowledge and the Extended Essay together carry up to three bonus points, which is the difference between 34 and 37 on an offer. The core is also the part with the hardest internal deadlines, set by the school rather than by the IB, and the part where academic-honesty boundaries matter most.

So the structure here is: the radius problem laid out properly, what the core actually demands and when, how HL and SL differ in a way that changes tutoring hours, the Dubai rate bands with sources, a direct in-home against online comparison for this community, the regulator picture, and an honest account of availability. Delivery is one-to-one over live video on Gulf Standard Time; there are no home visits anywhere in the UAE, and that is said at the top rather than in the footnotes.

At a glance

  • The IB is 7% of Dubai private-school enrolment, so local specialist pools are thin
  • TOK and the Extended Essay together contribute up to three bonus points
  • The Extended Essay has a 4,000-word upper limit; the TOK essay 1,600
  • Core deadlines are set by your school and fall earlier than families expect
  • Session slots run up to 21:00 Gulf Standard Time, so no evening is lost to traffic
  • Where no UAE-based specialist is free, we say so before the booking
IB programmes

Every IB programme stage, mapped to UAE school years

Three IB programmes generate nearly all enquiries from the Jumeirah Village Triangle area, and each is assessed in a fundamentally different way. Knowing which one your child is in decides whether tutoring targets criteria or examinations.

MYPAges 11-16 · Years 7-11

Middle Years Programme

Eight subject groups, each assessed against four criteria lettered A to D and marked out of 8, converted to a 1-7 grade by published boundaries. There are no external examinations unless the school opts into MYP eAssessment. The Personal Project in the final year is assessed against its own criteria. Most mark loss sits in the communication and real-world application criteria rather than in content knowledge.

Around the Triangle, MYP students mostly sit at the continuum schools in the Dubailand belt, and the common request is Personal Project supervision. That work has to be the student's own, so a tutor's role is process coaching: narrowing the goal, keeping the process journal usable, and reading the report against the criteria rather than drafting it.

DPAges 16-19 · Years 12-13

Diploma Programme

Six subjects across six groups, three at Higher Level and three at Standard Level, each graded 1-7, plus Theory of Knowledge, the Extended Essay and Creativity, Activity, Service. TOK and the EE together add up to three bonus points, giving a 45-point ceiling. Every subject includes an internally assessed component worth 20-25% of the grade, marked in school and moderated externally.

Diploma students in this part of Dubai generally attend JESS Arabian Ranches, Nord Anglia International School Dubai, Fairgreen International School or North London Collegiate School Dubai. UAE candidates sit the May session. No IB session or results date appears on this page: ibo.org blocks automated verification, so nothing could be confirmed, and your school's IB coordinator is the right source.

PYPAges 3-12 · FS1 to Year 6

Primary Years Programme

Inquiry-led, organised around six transdisciplinary themes, with no external examinations and continuous teacher assessment ending in the Year 6 Exhibition. Tutoring here targets fluency rather than technique: number facts, written methods, reading stamina and explaining reasoning out loud. Treating a PYP child like an examination candidate works against how the programme assesses them.

Fairgreen International School in The Sustainable City and Greenfield International School in Dubai Investments Park both run the PYP within reach of the Triangle. The most frequent PYP request from this area is English writing structure, where a multilingual community often shows a wide gap between confident speech and organised written work.

Subject coverage

IB and IGCSE subjects we tutor

These are the Diploma courses most often requested from the Jumeirah Village Triangle area outside the sciences and mathematics, together with the core components. The sciences and mathematics are covered on our subject pages for this community.

History

HL and SL

Paper 1 is a source-based question on a prescribed subject and rewards provenance analysis, not summary. Paper 2 is comparative essay work on world history topics. HL adds Paper 3, a regional option with three essays in two and a half hours. Most marks are lost writing narrative where the question asked for argument.

Geography

HL and SL

Case-study specificity decides the grade: named places, dated events, actual figures. HL adds the global interactions paper and an extra option. The internally assessed fieldwork report is 20% at SL and 25% at HL, and weak methodology sections cost more than weak data.

Psychology

HL and SL

Studies must be named, dated and evaluated, not described. HL adds extra approaches and the quantitative methods content. The internal assessment is a replication of a simple experiment with full statistical treatment, and students routinely pick a study they cannot ethically replicate.

Business Management

HL and SL

Tools applied to the stimulus earn marks; the same tools described in general do not. Ansoff, break-even, ratio analysis and the Boston Matrix all appear. HL Paper 3 responds to a social-enterprise case. Students often choose an internal-assessment company whose real data they cannot obtain.

English A: Language and Literature

HL and SL

Paper 1 is guided analysis of unseen non-literary text; Paper 2 a comparative essay on studied works. HL adds the 1,200-1,500 word HL Essay. The Individual Oral links a global issue to one literary and one non-literary extract, and extract choice is where it is usually won or lost.

Spanish and French B

HL and SL

Paper 1 is a written task in a specified text type, so register and format carry marks independently of grammar. Paper 2 covers listening and reading. The individual oral uses a visual stimulus at SL and a literary extract at HL, and preparation is usually too content-focused and not enough spoken.

Economics

HL and SL

Correctly labelled and shifted diagrams score separately from the prose around them. The portfolio of three commentaries uses real published articles and caps each at 800 words. HL Paper 3 is quantitative, where arithmetic slips cost more marks than conceptual gaps do.

Theory of Knowledge

Core

Two assessed components: the exhibition of three objects with a commentary capped at 950 words, and a 1,600-word essay on one of the prescribed titles. Students lose marks describing the objects rather than using them to explore the knowledge question they illustrate.

Extended Essay

Core

An independent 4,000-word research essay in a chosen subject, supervised in school and marked against criteria covering focus, knowledge, critical thinking, presentation and engagement. The research question is where most essays are decided; a question that cannot be answered in 4,000 words cannot score well.

Mathematics: Applications and Interpretation

HL and SL

Included here because it is the course most often mismatched to a student. Calculator-permitted and statistics-led, with HL adding graph theory and matrices. Check the degree prerequisite first: several engineering and mathematics programmes specify Analysis and Approaches instead.

How sessions run

Tutoring formats built around UAE school timetables

Three formats, all one-to-one over live video on Gulf Standard Time. Which one fits depends on whether the work in front of your child is a paper, a piece of coursework or a core component with a school deadline attached.

Subject tutoring on a weekly slot

A fixed weekly hour with the same tutor in one subject, running across the term. This is the format that moves a grade rather than rescuing a paper, because the tutor sees the student's own marked classwork each week and can trace a weakness back to the topic it came from instead of guessing at it.

  • Same tutor all term, so no repeated diagnosis
  • Work set against the school's own scheme of work
  • Session recordings kept for revision
  • Pauses available during internal examination weeks

Core component supervision

Structured support for Theory of Knowledge, the Extended Essay or a subject Internal Assessment, scheduled backwards from the school's internal deadline. The tutor works against the published criteria and word limits. The student writes everything that gets submitted; the tutor explains, questions and gives feedback on drafts.

  • Research question narrowed before any drafting begins
  • Word limits checked early, not after the draft is long
  • Criterion-by-criterion feedback using the official descriptors
  • Referencing practised to the school's required style

Short pre-examination blocks

Six to ten sessions on one named component — a specific paper, a specific option topic — worked entirely through past questions and published mark schemes. Session one is spent reading the student's marked mock rather than teaching, because in DP2 the content has normally been covered and the problem is technique or timing.

  • Starts from marked scripts, not from the syllabus front page
  • Timed questions under real conditions each session
  • Mark-scheme language taught explicitly
  • Twice-weekly scheduling in the final weeks

What IB and IGCSE study actually looks like in Jumeirah Village Triangle

01

The radius calculation behind "near me"

Searching for an IB tutor near me in Jumeirah Village Triangle asks Google to rank by distance. It is worth seeing what that filter leaves you with. Dubai's private-school sector held 387,441 students across 227 schools in 2024-25, offering 17 curricula, with the IB at 7% of enrolment against UK curricula at 37%, Indian at 26% and US at 14%. The IB is a minority curriculum in a large market.

Now narrow it the way a search does. Take the population within a short drive of the Triangle. Keep only those connected to the IB rather than to a British or Indian curriculum. Keep only tutors, not students or parents. Keep only those who teach your child's subject. Keep only those who teach it at the level your child sits — HL and SL are different courses with different papers. Keep only those with a free slot in the narrow window between the school run and bedtime. Each filter cuts hard, and the last two cut hardest.

The honest result is that for a mainstream Diploma subject you may find a handful of credible local options, and for anything narrow you will find none. A Psychology HL student needing help with the quantitative methods content, or a Spanish B HL student preparing an individual oral on a literary extract, is not choosing from a list. They are hoping one exists within range.

Removing distance from the filter set does not lower the bar; it raises the number of candidates who clear it. That is the entire argument for online delivery in this market, and it is an argument about arithmetic rather than about technology.

The IB core: three bonus points and the deadlines nobody diarises

Theory of Knowledge and the Extended Essay together contribute up to three points to a Diploma total out of 45. Three points is routinely the gap between a conditional offer met and missed, and yet the core is the part families most often leave entirely to the school. Subject tutoring gets funded; TOK does not.

The components are concrete. The TOK exhibition requires three objects and a commentary capped at 950 words, and the TOK essay is 1,600 words on one of the prescribed titles released for the session. The Extended Essay is an independent research essay with a 4,000-word upper limit, supervised in school and marked against criteria covering focus and method, knowledge and understanding, critical thinking, presentation, and engagement. Creativity, Activity, Service is not graded but must be completed for the Diploma to be awarded.

The deadlines that bite are internal. Your school sets the dates for the EE research question, the first draft, the reflection sessions and the final submission, and those dates fall far earlier in DP1 and DP2 than most parents expect. By the time a family decides the Extended Essay needs help, the research question has often been locked for months and the real problem is a question that cannot be answered in 4,000 words.

What a tutor can legitimately do here is narrower than in subject teaching, and worth stating precisely. They can interrogate a research question until it becomes answerable. They can check that a method will generate usable evidence. They can explain what each criterion credits using the official descriptors. They can read a draft the student wrote and name where it fails a criterion. They cannot write, rewrite, restructure by rewriting, or edit prose into a standard the student cannot produce. Every submitted word is the student's.

HL against SL, and what the difference costs in tutoring hours

Parents often assume Higher Level is the same course with harder questions. It is not. HL carries additional syllabus content, additional examination papers in most subjects, and in the sciences and mathematics an extra paper of a different type entirely. That changes the hours a tutor needs, which is why a quote for HL support is not a quote for SL support with a surcharge.

In the sciences, HL adds substantial content and a Paper 3 covering experimental technique and option material. In Mathematics Analysis and Approaches, HL Paper 3 is a two-question extended investigation worth 20% of the grade, unlike anything in the textbook and frequently absent from school mock papers. In History, HL adds Paper 3, three essays in two and a half hours on a regional option. In English A, HL adds a 1,200-1,500 word HL Essay on a studied text.

The practical consequence is about sequencing. An SL student short of a grade usually needs technique on existing content. An HL student short of a grade may need both technique and content that has not yet been taught, and if the examination is eight weeks away the honest answer is sometimes that the target is not reachable and a different target is. A tutor who agrees to any target you name is not giving you information.

The other consequence is subject choice. Three HLs is the requirement, and students choosing three HLs in the sciences and mathematics together take on the heaviest internal-assessment load in the Diploma: multiple investigation reports, all internally assessed, all due in overlapping windows set by the school.

What the travel premium actually buys in this part of Dubai

Published Dubai rates let you price the convenience of proximity directly. Bestimate's 2026 rate table puts in-home one-to-one visits at AED 180-350 an hour, with independent home tutors reaching AED 500 once travel is folded in. Qualified subject tutors working online sit at AED 150-300, and IB or IGCSE specialists at AED 200-450 or above. Unitors publishes IB tuition from AED 200 and IGCSE from AED 150. TutorChase quotes AED 270 for specialist work. At the entry end, Tutopiya publishes from AED 33-52 and EdFlik from AED 45-65. BartyED sits at AED 650 for a premium named tutor. All figures are provider-published and were read in October 2026.

Subtract the bands and the travel premium is roughly AED 30-150 an hour over an equivalent online session. That buys a person in the room. It does not buy more teaching time, better subject knowledge or familiarity with HL Paper 3. In a market where the specialist pool is already thin, paying a premium that narrows the pool further is a difficult trade to defend on a Diploma grade.

There is also a hidden cost in session structure. A tutor spending forty to sixty minutes each way on Al Khail Road in term-time traffic will usually require a two-hour minimum booking to make the journey worthwhile. That removes the 45-minute session from the menu, which is often the right length for a focused component repair, and it fixes the latest workable start at roughly 18:30.

Monthly, Bestimate's estimates for one weekly hour come out at approximately AED 240-600 at the budget end, AED 600-1,200 mid-market and AED 1,000-2,000 or above for exam-year specialist support. Published packages in this market include around AED 799 a month for eight online sessions and AED 1,599-1,799 for four two-hour in-home sessions. IB Gram publishes no fixed rate on this page because subject, level and urgency move it; the free diagnostic lesson comes before any quote.

In-home against online for a Triangle household

Both formats work; they work for different students. A Year 7 or 8 child who cannot yet hold attention on a screen does better with an adult sitting beside them. A student whose working needs physical correction as it is written benefits from presence. Parents who want to overhear the session find in-person easier to supervise. None of that is in dispute, and it is why the in-home market in Dubai is large and charges more.

For a Diploma student the balance usually tips the other way, and for a specific reason: the thing that limits the result is the match, not the medium. A DP2 student needs somebody who has taught their course at their level and read their mark schemes. The online format puts the whole field in reach; the in-home format puts whoever will drive into Jumeirah Village Triangle at five in reach.

Practical differences follow. Online sessions can be 45 or 60 minutes rather than a two-hour minimum. A 20:00 slot after a late school fixture is possible without anyone driving at night. Recordings mean a session on Extended Essay structure in October can be rewatched in February at no cost. A shared whiteboard the student writes on keeps working visible, which matters in mathematics and the sciences.

IB Gram offers only the online format in the UAE. Home visits are an India-only service. The table lays out both honestly so the decision rests on the trade rather than on a sales line.

KHDA, the schools near the Triangle and what a report really tells you

  • KHDA inspects annually on six bands from Outstanding to Very Weak
  • Dubai's 2026-27 intake adds seven schools and 16,846 places
  • Arabic, Islamic Education and Social Studies are mandatory regardless of curriculum
  • Separate Arab and non-Arab classes are required in three mandatory subjects
  • IB Gram holds no KHDA permit and claims no regulator endorsement

Dubai's private schools are overseen by the Knowledge and Human Development Authority, described on u.ae as responsible for enhancing and overseeing the quality of private education in the emirate. KHDA inspects annually on a six-band scale from Outstanding down to Very Weak and publishes the reports. The emirate's 2026-27 intake adds seven new private schools, four UK curriculum and three International Baccalaureate, creating 16,846 new places, after six openings during 2025-26 and a 6% rise in enrolment.

The band at the top of a report is the least useful line in it. What is useful is the subject-level commentary, which often names the precise weakness in a cohort: attainment in mathematics, progress in Arabic as an additional language, the quality of students' independent research. If you are deciding which subject to fund tutoring in, that paragraph is better evidence than a grade on a child's report, because it tells you where the teaching itself is thin.

The second thing worth knowing is that the Dubai timetable is not fully international. Arabic, Islamic Education and Social or Moral Studies are mandatory in all Dubai private schools regardless of the licensed curriculum, with KHDA's requirements implemented from the start of the 2025-26 academic year. Schools must organise separate classes for Arabs and non-Arabs in Arabic as a first language, Islamic Education and Social Studies, and combined classes are strictly prohibited because expectations and language of instruction differ. For the mandatory subjects, using different or additional content without prior permission from the Ministry of Education is strictly prohibited.

A caution to close on. A tutoring operation with premises and staff in Dubai needs a KHDA Educational Services Permit, issued to training institutes, with initial approval first and annual renewal requested at least 30 days before expiry. IB Gram holds no such permit, has no UAE office and makes no claim of approval or partnership from KHDA, ADEK, SPEA, the Ministry of Education, the IB or Cambridge.

Getting matched, and what we say when nobody is free

  • Subject, level, weak component and a marked script in the first message
  • Free diagnostic lesson, then a written diagnosis within a working day
  • One to three working days to match a mainstream Diploma course
  • Tutor location and coverage gaps disclosed before any booking
  • Ramadan and mock-week scheduling arranged at the start of term

Send three things: subject and level, the component that is weak, and a marked piece of work. A specialist then runs a free diagnostic lesson and sends a written note within a working day naming the error patterns and estimating the number of sessions. You decide after reading it; nothing is charged first. If the honest estimate is that the remaining time cannot reach your target, the note says that and suggests what can be reached.

Availability deserves a direct answer because no competitor in this market gives one. Mainstream Diploma subjects — Mathematics AA and AI, Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Economics, English A, Business Management, History — have deep cover for UAE evening slots and usually match in one to three working days. Narrow courses are a different matter: a minority Group 2 language at HL, a specific Computer Science option, a Career-related Programme reflective project. Where no UAE-based specialist is free, the match comes from our India-based IB faculty teaching on Gulf Standard Time, and we say so before you book.

Scheduling around the Triangle is straightforward in practice. Families with children at Sunmarke School or Arcadia Global School inside the community can take 16:30 slots. Families driving back from Arabian Ranches, Dubai Hills or The Sustainable City generally want 17:30 or later. Ramadan moves sessions to post-Iftar timing, typically 20:30 to 22:00, often at 45 minutes rather than an hour. Internal examination weeks are usually paused outright so the student owns their own evenings.

On permits, since parents ask and should. The MoHRE private tuition work permit was introduced by Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023, is granted free of charge for two years, and covers teachers registered in government or private schools, government and private-sector employees, unemployed individuals, school students aged 15 to 18 and university students. Individuals tutoring without one are subject to fines and penalties outlined in the applicable laws; no fine schedule is published, so no figure appears here. The route is MoHRE's 'Issuance of a New Work Permit - Private Tutor Licensing' service, no listed fee, two working days.

Where we tutor

Nearby areas we cover around Jumeirah Village Triangle

Students joining from Jumeirah Village Triangle study alongside families across the western Dubailand communities. The notes below focus on how far the nearest IB school actually is, because that is the variable a proximity search is really measuring.

Jumeirah Village Triangle

Sunmarke School and Arcadia Global School sit inside the community on British-curriculum routes, so Diploma students here usually travel out of JVT to school and want evening sessions rather than afternoon ones.

Jumeirah Village Circle

Shares schools and road access with the Triangle. Apartment living means a quiet room during a 19:00 session is more often the limiting factor than the schedule itself.

Arabian Ranches

JESS Arabian Ranches is one of Dubai's longest-running IB Diploma schools, so this is the nearest substantial Diploma cohort to the Triangle and a reference point for JVT families comparing schools.

Dubai Hills Estate

GEMS Wellington Academy Al Khail and Kings' School Dubai dominate here with large British-curriculum intakes, several of which move to the Diploma after Year 11.

Motor City

GEMS Metropole School runs a British curriculum through IGCSE, so Diploma students commute out. Evening online slots are the practical answer for this postcode.

The Sustainable City

Fairgreen International School runs the IB continuum here, PYP through to the Diploma, and is one of the closest full continuum options to the Triangle.

Dubai Investments Park

Greenfield International School and Durham School Dubai sit in this corridor. The drive back from here in afternoon traffic is what pushes families towards later session times.

Town Square and Mudon

Longer school runs and a younger age profile. Diploma enquiries from these communities are fewer but almost always concern the core: TOK, the Extended Essay and internal assessment deadlines.

How matching works

From first enquiry to a tutor who fits

  1. 01

Say the level, not just the subject

HL and SL are different courses with different papers, so 'Chemistry' is not enough information to match a tutor. Give the subject, the level, and the component your child is losing marks on. If you do not know which component, the last report and a marked mock will tell us in five minutes.

  2. 02

Free diagnostic lesson with a specialist

A full session at no charge, spent working through the student's own errors rather than teaching a topic. The purpose is to find the repeating pattern. Most students have two or three, and naming them is what turns a vague worry into a plan with an endpoint.

  3. 03

Written diagnosis within a working day

A short note naming the error patterns, the syllabus areas behind them and an honest session estimate. If the target is not reachable in the time left, it says so and proposes what is. You read it before any payment is taken or any slot is committed.

  4. 04

Fixed weekly slot on Gulf Standard Time

Same tutor, same time, 45 or 60 minutes, booked around the JVT school run. Sessions run up to 21:00 so a late fixture does not cost a week, move to post-Iftar timing in Ramadan, and pause through internal examination weeks on request.

Reviewed against the next real assessment

Progress is judged on the school's own marked work rather than on our exercises. After the next internal assessment or mock, the script is read against the original diagnosis and the block either closes, changes focus, or changes tutor if the match is not producing movement.

Why families choose us

What UAE parents tell us matters most

The filter that matters is the course, not the postcode

Online delivery replaces 'who is nearby' with 'who has taught this course at this level'. With the IB at 7% of Dubai private-school enrolment, that distinction decides whether a Psychology HL or Spanish B HL student has a real choice of tutor or none at all.

The core is treated as a component, not an afterthought

Theory of Knowledge and the Extended Essay carry up to three points between them and have the earliest internal deadlines in the Diploma. We schedule core work backwards from your school's dates rather than waiting until a draft is already overdue.

Every figure carries its source

AED bands on this page are named providers' own published rates, read in October 2026. Regulatory statements are attributed to u.ae, KHDA or MoHRE. Where a number could not be verified — IB session dates, an IB equivalency threshold — the page says so rather than filling the gap.

Honest answers about what is reachable

An HL student eight weeks out may need content taught as well as technique fixed, and sometimes the target grade is not available in the time left. The written diagnosis says that plainly. A provider that agrees to every target you name is not telling you anything.

Academic honesty stated, not implied

Tutors teach, question and give feedback on the Extended Essay, TOK and internal assessments. They do not write or rewrite them, and they do not supply completed coursework. In a market where at least one ranking site sells finished Internal Assessments, that line needs stating in full.

Coverage limits published before payment

Where no UAE-resident specialist is free for a narrow course, we name that and say where the tutor is based instead. No UAE office, no local centre and no claim of one. The delivery model appears in the first paragraph of the page, not in the terms.

Questions parents ask

IB and IGCSE tutoring in Jumeirah Village Triangle: your questions answered

Why does searching "IB tutor near me" in JVT return so few real options?+

Because five filters stack. Dubai's private sector holds 387,441 students across 227 schools, and the IB accounts for 7% of enrolment against 37% for UK curricula. Narrow that to a neighbourhood-sized radius around Jumeirah Village Triangle, then to tutors rather than students, then to your child's subject, then to the level they sit, then to whoever is free between the school run and bedtime. Each cut is severe and the last two are the worst. For a mainstream subject you may find a handful; for anything narrow, often none. Removing distance from the filter set is what restores a real choice.

Do you send an IB tutor to a villa in Jumeirah Village Triangle?+

No. Home visits in Dubai are widely available from independent tutors and agencies, priced at AED 180-350 an hour on Bestimate's 2026 rate table and reaching AED 500 for independent home tutors with travel included, but IB Gram does not provide them anywhere in the UAE — that is an India-only service. UAE families are taught one-to-one over live video on Gulf Standard Time, with a shared whiteboard and a session recording. The trade is that you choose a tutor by what they have taught rather than by how far they will drive on a weekday evening.

Should we be paying for Theory of Knowledge support at all?+

It is worth considering before subject tutoring in some cases. TOK and the Extended Essay together contribute up to three points to a total out of 45, and three points frequently decides whether a conditional offer is met. The TOK essay is 1,600 words on a prescribed title and the exhibition is three objects with a commentary capped at 950 words, so the volume of work is small and the leverage is high. The most common failure is writing about the objects or the title rather than about the knowledge question, which is a structural problem a tutor can name quickly.

When do Extended Essay deadlines actually fall for a Dubai school?+

Earlier than most families plan for, and your school sets them rather than the IB. The sequence typically runs: subject and supervisor allocated, research question agreed, first formal reflection, full draft, final reflection, submission — spread across DP1 and the early part of DP2. By the time a parent concludes the Extended Essay needs help, the research question is often locked and the real problem is a question that cannot be answered inside 4,000 words. Ask your Diploma coordinator for the internal calendar in the first term of DP1 and work backwards from it.

Is Higher Level really just Standard Level with harder questions?+

No, and the assumption costs money. Higher Level carries additional syllabus content as well as additional papers. In the sciences HL adds a Paper 3 on experimental technique and option material. In Mathematics Analysis and Approaches, HL Paper 3 is a two-question extended investigation worth 20% of the grade. In History, HL adds three essays in 150 minutes on a regional option. In English A, HL adds a 1,200-1,500 word essay. That is why an HL student short of a grade may need content taught, not just technique repaired, and why the hours differ.

How much is the travel premium on a home visit in this part of Dubai?+

Roughly AED 30-150 an hour, comparing published bands. Bestimate's 2026 Dubai table puts in-home one-to-one at AED 180-350 and independent home tutors up to AED 500 with travel included, against AED 150-300 for a qualified subject tutor working online. What the premium buys is a person in the room. It does not buy additional teaching time or familiarity with HL Paper 3, and because it narrows the available pool to those willing to drive into JVT at five, it can reduce the quality of the match it is paying to improve.

Can a tutor help my child choose an Extended Essay research question?+

Yes, and this is one of the highest-value things a tutor legitimately does. A question that cannot be answered in 4,000 words produces an essay that cannot score well no matter how it is written, and students almost always start too broad. A tutor can interrogate a proposed question, test whether the evidence to answer it is obtainable, and push it until it is specific enough. What the tutor must not do is supply the question, write any part of the essay, or edit prose into a standard the student cannot produce themselves.

Are three Higher Level sciences a sensible combination?+

It is permitted and some students handle it, but understand the internal-assessment load before committing. Each Group 4 subject carries an internally assessed investigation worth 20% of its grade, all marked in school and moderated externally, and the school's deadlines for them tend to fall in overlapping windows. Add the Extended Essay and the TOK essay in the same period and DP2 becomes crowded in a way a timetable does not show. If the degree target only requires two sciences at HL, the third HL slot is often better spent elsewhere.

Why will you not publish the May session dates on this page?+

Because they could not be verified from the IB itself. ibo.org returns an error to automated checking, and an examination date is something a family plans a term around, so an unconfirmed one is worse than none. UAE candidates sit the May session; for the window, the results date and the candidate release time, ask your school's IB coordinator or read ibo.org directly. In practice the dates that constrain your child first are internal anyway: the school's own deadlines for internal assessments, Extended Essay drafts and the TOK exhibition.

Which schools near Jumeirah Village Triangle run the full IB continuum?+

Fairgreen International School in The Sustainable City and Greenfield International School in Dubai Investments Park are the closest full continuum options, running from the Primary Years Programme through to the Diploma. For the Diploma specifically, families also look at JESS Arabian Ranches, Nord Anglia International School Dubai, North London Collegiate School Dubai and Emirates International School Meadows. None of these sits inside the Triangle itself, which is part of why a proximity search behaves oddly here. We name schools as market context only and have no affiliation with any of them.

Can we book sessions later than 19:00 on a school night?+

Yes, up to 21:00 Gulf Standard Time, and for Triangle families it is one of the more useful features of the online format. A student with a late school fixture, a music lesson or a long drive back from Arabian Ranches does not have to lose the week's session. Nobody is driving home afterwards either, which is the practical constraint that caps an in-home visit at roughly 18:30. Sessions can also run 45 minutes rather than an hour when the work is a single focused component, which suits a later start.

What happens if the tutor you match is not the right fit?+

Tell us after the session and we change the match. The free diagnostic lesson exists partly for this: it lets you see the person teaching before any commitment, which is the opposite of the common market pattern where a tutor is allocated after payment. Fit is not only subject knowledge. A student who needs patience and a student who needs pace are badly served by each other's tutor. If a review against the next marked assessment shows no movement, changing the tutor is one of the three options we put on the table, alongside changing focus or closing the block.

Does Dubai's mandatory Arabic requirement apply at an IB school?+

Yes. Arabic, Islamic Education and Social or Moral Studies are mandatory in all Dubai private schools regardless of the licensed international curriculum, with KHDA's requirements implemented from the start of the 2025-26 academic year. Schools must run separate classes for Arabs and non-Arabs in Arabic as a first language, Islamic Education and Social Studies, and combined classes are strictly prohibited because the curriculum expectations and language of instruction differ. KHDA also requires that teachers of Arabic and Islamic Education hold appropriate approval to teach those subjects. Practically, that load competes with Diploma work for the same evenings.

Is IB Gram registered or endorsed by KHDA in any way?+

No, and the phrasing matters. A KHDA Educational Services Permit is a specific authorisation for training institutes with premises and staff in Dubai, requiring initial approval first and annual renewal requested at least 30 days before expiry. IB Gram holds no such permit, occupies no UAE office or centre, and claims no approval, accreditation, licensing or partnership from KHDA, ADEK, SPEA, the Ministry of Education, MoHRE, the IB, Cambridge or Pearson. This page explains what those bodies do because parents need to know; none of them endorses us, and any provider implying otherwise should be checked.

How quickly can a Diploma tutor start for a student in the Triangle?+

One to three working days for a mainstream course in a UAE evening slot — Mathematics AA and AI, the three sciences, Economics, English A, Business Management and History all have deep cover. Narrow courses take longer and sometimes cannot be filled from UAE-resident tutors: a minority Group 2 language at Higher Level, a particular Computer Science option, a Career-related Programme reflective project. Where that is the case, the match comes from our India-based IB faculty teaching on Gulf Standard Time, and we say so before the booking rather than afterwards.

Drop the distance filter and keep the course filter

The useful question is not who teaches the IB near Jumeirah Village Triangle. It is who has taught your child's course at your child's level and read the mark schemes for the component that is losing marks. With the IB at 7% of Dubai private-school enrolment, those two questions give very different answers, and only one of them improves a grade. Add the core to the list while you are at it: Theory of Knowledge and the Extended Essay carry up to three points and have the earliest deadlines in the Diploma. Send the subject, the level and a marked script, and take the free diagnostic lesson before committing to anything.
