IGCSE Science Tutor in Dubai Festival City

Asking for an IGCSE science tutor in Dubai Festival City is asking three questions at once, because science is three subjects, two boards and several different entry shapes. A tutor strong in chemistry is not automatically useful for a combined award covering physics too. This page sets out the codes to check, how practical work is actually assessed from a UAE centre, and the questions that reveal whether someone knows your child's syllabus. Lessons run as live one-to-one video on Gulf Standard Time.

  • Matched to the actual entry: separate, Coordinated or Combined
  • Syllabus codes named, so a mismatch is caught before week one

IB & IGCSE in Dubai Festival City

What you are actually asking for when you ask for a science tutor

Science at IGCSE is not one subject. Your child is sitting either three separate sciences, each with its own syllabus code and its own papers, or a combined or coordinated award that covers all three more narrowly and reports one or two grades. Those are structurally different qualifications with different content, different paper counts and different grade consequences, and a tutor who assumes the wrong one will teach confidently in the wrong direction for several weeks.

Then there is the board. Cambridge International uses four-digit codes: 0610 Biology, 0620 Chemistry, 0625 Physics, with 0653 Coordinated Science and 0654 Combined Science. Pearson Edexcel International GCSE uses forms like 4BI1, 4CH1 and 4PH1 for the separate sciences. Many Dubai schools enter some subjects with one board and some with the other, so the answer about your school is not the answer about your child's science entry. Ask for it subject by subject, in writing.

Within Cambridge there is a third variable: Core or Extended. The Core route does not reach the top grades, and the decision is made by the school during Year 10 on the basis of classwork. A family aiming at A Level or IB Diploma sciences needs to know which route their child is on, because the sixth-form entry requirement may sit above the ceiling of the current entry. That is worth establishing in Year 10 rather than discovering after results.

So the honest answer to the question in the search box. Is there a science tutor near Dubai Festival City? Almost certainly, for one subject at a reasonable tier. Is there someone nearby who knows all three sciences at Extended level and the specific board your school enters? That is a much narrower requirement, and applying it alongside a driving radius and an available after-school hour leaves very few people in the eastern suburbs.

IB Gram does not run home visits in Dubai; home visits are a service we offer only in India. For Al Badia, Festival Boulevard, Nad Al Hamar and the wider eastern suburbs the delivery is live one-to-one video on Gulf Standard Time. The reason that is the better answer here rather than merely the cheaper one is the filter arithmetic above: removing the distance requirement leaves subject, entry shape and hour, which is how a family actually reaches the right tutor.

The rest of this page is practical. How to establish which entry your child sits. Whether one tutor can cover three sciences. How practical skills are assessed from a UAE centre, which almost nobody explains. The questions that test real syllabus knowledge. And where marks go in each of the three subjects, so you can aim the money rather than spread it.

None of that is an argument against local tutors as a class. For a single science at Core level, a capable nearby teacher is a perfectly good answer and often the most convenient one. The point is to know which situation you are in before you choose, because the request that fails quietly is the one where a parent asks for science help, a willing tutor agrees, and nobody establishes the entry shape until a mock paper arrives looking unfamiliar in week nine.

  • Three separate sciences, or a Coordinated or Combined award: establish which before booking
  • Cambridge codes 0610, 0620, 0625, 0653, 0654; Pearson 4BI1, 4CH1, 4PH1
  • Cambridge Core does not reach the top grades, and the review window is Year 10
  • A combined entry needs a tutor comfortable in all three subjects, which is a narrower requirement
  • Ask the school for the codes subject by subject, in writing
IB programmes

Every IB programme stage, mapped to UAE school years

Science at IGCSE sits between two stages that both affect how much support is needed, and which entry shape a student is on changes what each transition feels like.

KS3Ages 11-14

Key Stage 3 science, Years 7 to 9

Integrated science with no external examination. The valuable things built here are scientific vocabulary, the habit of writing an explanation rather than a description, and enough mathematical fluency to rearrange a formula and handle standard form. All three resurface in every IGCSE science paper.

Dubai Festival City families rarely buy science tuition in Year 9, and it is the cheapest point at which to fix the mathematics that will later look like a physics weakness. A term at the budget band of AED 45 to 65 an hour aimed at formula rearrangement and units is a small, early, effective purchase.

IGCSEAges 14-16

IGCSE sciences, Years 10 and 11

Either three separate sciences with their own papers, or a Coordinated award graded as one subject covering all three, or a Combined award covering all three more narrowly. Cambridge splits separate sciences into Core and Extended routes. Pearson runs single-tier International GCSE sciences with their own paper structures.

The entry shape is the first question for any tuition request in this corridor, and parents frequently do not know it, because reports show subject names rather than codes. One message to the school resolves it, and it determines whether you are buying one tutor or three.

POST-16Ages 16-19

A Level or IB Diploma sciences

Sixth-form science courses set specific IGCSE grade requirements, and a Coordinated or Combined award is sometimes treated differently from separate sciences for entry purposes. Schools vary in how they handle this, so ask directly what your child's entry shape qualifies them for.

Deira International School runs the IB continuum into the Diploma while other schools near Dubai Festival City lead into A Level, so the consequence of a science grade differs by destination. Establish what the intended route requires before Year 11 rather than after August results.

Equivalency and mandatory UAE subjects

Ministry of Education equivalency for the British track requires five accredited GCSE or IGCSE subjects at a grade no lower than E or grade 3, excluding Arabic and Islamic education, plus one Advanced Level subject at no less than grade E or two Advanced Subsidiary subjects at the same grade.

A Coordinated or Combined science award counts differently from three separate sciences towards a five-subject total, so families planning a UAE university route should check with the attestation authority rather than assume. Verify on moe.gov.ae; IB Gram does not perform equivalency and cannot affect its outcome.

Subject coverage

IB and IGCSE subjects we tutor

This grid covers the three sciences across both boards, with the syllabus code and what the subject actually asks for. Use it to check your child's entry and to test whether a prospective tutor recognises the code you quote.

Biology

Cambridge 0610 Core and Extended · Pearson 4BI1

Cells, transport, respiration, nutrition, coordination, inheritance and ecology. Biology punishes imprecise writing more than any other science: an answer that does not name the structure, the process and the consequence scores nothing even where the student clearly understands it.

Chemistry

Cambridge 0620 Core and Extended · Pearson 4CH1

States of matter, atomic structure, bonding, stoichiometry, acids and bases, metals, organic chemistry. Moles calculations and the Cambridge qualitative analysis tables are the two highest-return areas, because both are learnable procedures rather than vague skills.

Physics

Cambridge 0625 Core and Extended · Pearson 4PH1

Forces and motion, energy, waves, electricity, magnetism, nuclear physics. Marks go missing in two predictable places: multi-step calculations where units are dropped, and six-mark answers that describe an effect without naming the mechanism behind it.

Coordinated Science

Cambridge 0653, Core and Extended

All three sciences taught and assessed together, awarded as a single grade. Content is narrower than the separate sciences but spans everything, which means a tutor has to be genuinely comfortable in all three rather than strong in one and adequate elsewhere.

Combined Science

Cambridge 0654

A broader, narrower route again across all three subjects. Chosen by schools wanting science breadth without three separate subject blocks in the timetable. Catching up a missed unit here is harder than in a separate science, because the unit may sit in a subject the tutor is weakest in.

Double and triple award patterns

Pearson and other board variants

Some boards and schools award science as a double or triple block rather than as separate subjects. Which pattern applies affects how many grades appear on the certificate and how sixth-form entry treats them, so ask the school to state it explicitly.

Practical skills, written assessment

Cambridge alternative-to-practical route and equivalents

Apparatus selection, identifying sources of error, reading scales, suggesting improvements and interpreting results. Cambridge offers a written alternative-to-practical paper on several syllabuses, which is the route most candidates sitting from a UAE centre meet, and it is entirely teachable without a bench.

Mathematics inside science

All three sciences, all tiers

Rearranging formulae, standard form, percentages, ratios, unit conversion and graph work. A student weak here appears weak at physics and chemistry simultaneously, because the same gap recurs in both wearing different labels. Often the cheapest single fix across three subjects.

Extended written answers

All three sciences, Extended tiers especially

The six-mark questions that ask for a reasoned explanation. The commonest failure is writing three sentences that restate the first, which earns one mark and feels like three. Responds to marked practice with a mark scheme visible, not to further explanation.

Command terms and question reading

All entries

State, describe, explain, suggest, calculate and compare ask for different amounts. A student who writes an explanation where a state was wanted loses time; one who states where an explanation was wanted loses marks. One session with a past paper improves all three subjects at once.

How sessions run

Tutoring formats built around UAE school timetables

Three shapes that match the three commonest science requests in this corridor. All are delivered as live one-to-one or small-group video lessons on Gulf Standard Time.

One subject, one specialist

The right answer when a student sits three separate sciences and one of them is the problem. A chemistry specialist for a chemistry problem, matched to the code and tier. This is also the easiest match to make and the easiest to measure, because a single subject's marked papers show whether the hours are working.

  • Matched to the code and tier, not to the subject name
  • Measurable on that subject's marked papers
  • Easiest slot to find in the after-school window
  • Cut it when the subject stabilises rather than renewing by habit

Coordinated or Combined breadth cover

For a single-award entry across all three sciences, where the requirement is a tutor comfortable everywhere rather than excellent in one place. Harder to match, and worth asking directly whether a prospective tutor has taught the combined syllabus or is simply willing to attempt it.

  • Ask whether they have taught 0653 or 0654 specifically
  • Breadth matters more than depth for this entry
  • A single weak subject inside the award drags one grade, not three
  • Expect fewer available tutors and book earlier

Cross-subject skills block

Four to six sessions on the things that cost marks in all three sciences at once: command terms, extended written answers, unit handling and formula rearrangement, and practical reasoning. This is the best-value science purchase available and almost nobody sells it, because it is not organised by subject.

  • Improves all three sciences from one booking
  • Command terms and six-mark answers drilled with a mark scheme
  • Formula rearrangement and units treated as the maths they are
  • Defined end point, so the cost is bounded

What IB and IGCSE study actually looks like in Dubai Festival City

01

Establishing which science entry your child actually sits

This is the first job and most families skip it, because a school report prints subject names rather than syllabus codes. Ask the school, in writing, for the board and the code for each science your child is entered for, plus the tier where Cambridge applies. The reply will say something like 0620 Extended and 0625 Extended, or 0653 Coordinated Science Extended, or 4CH1 and 4PH1. Those are three different situations requiring three different tutoring plans.

The distinctions matter in concrete ways. Three separate sciences means three sets of papers and three grades, and a weakness can be isolated and treated. Coordinated Science is awarded as a single grade across all three subjects, so a weak area inside it drags one grade rather than one of three, and the tutor needs breadth. Combined Science is narrower again. Pearson's separate sciences are single-tier with their own paper structures rather than Core and Extended routes.

The tier question is specific to Cambridge and it has a hard consequence. The Core route does not reach the top grades. If your child is aiming at A Level or IB Diploma sciences, check whether the sixth-form entry requirement sits above the ceiling of the current entry, and check it in Year 10 while the entry is still reviewable with the school. Discovering this in the spring of Year 11 means paying the highest rates in the market for a ceiling fixed months earlier.

One final practical point. Schools sometimes enter biology with one board and physics with another, usually for historical or staffing reasons. So ask subject by subject rather than once. Quote the codes when you request a tutor and ask the tutor to repeat them back, because a tutor who does not recognise 0653 or 4PH1 as distinct things is not yet the specialist you were looking for.

One tutor for three sciences, or three tutors?

The arithmetic depends on the entry. For a Coordinated or Combined award there is one grade, one set of papers and one teacher at school, so one tutor with genuine breadth is the natural match and three specialists would be both expensive and confusing. For three separate sciences the opposite usually holds: the weakness is rarely spread evenly, and paying three specialists to cover subjects that are already fine is the commonest overspend in this request.

There is a middle case worth naming. Physics and chemistry share a mathematical spine, so a tutor comfortable with both is a realistic match and a useful one, because the formula rearrangement and unit handling that cost marks in physics cost marks in chemistry too. Biology sits further away, since its demands are precision of language and volume of content rather than calculation. Pairing physics with chemistry and leaving biology separate is a common and sensible split.

The question to ask a prospective tutor is specific rather than general. Not can you cover three sciences, to which almost everybody says yes, but which of the three have you taught to a full IGCSE cohort and which have you only supported. The answers differ more than the initial claim suggests, and a tutor who distinguishes honestly between them is telling you something valuable about how they work.

For a combined award there is one more honest warning. A single weak subject inside a coordinated entry is harder to catch up than the same weakness in a separate science, because it may sit in the area the tutor knows least and because the content is compressed. Families whose child is on 0653 or 0654 should ask specifically whether the tutor has taught that syllabus, not merely the three subjects individually.

How practical science is assessed from a UAE centre

This is the question parents ask most often about online science tuition and the one competing pages answer least. Cambridge offers an alternative-to-practical written paper on several science syllabuses, and that written route is the one most candidates sitting from a UAE centre meet. It assesses apparatus selection, reading scales, identifying sources of error, interpreting results and suggesting specific improvements, all in writing, all based on described experiments.

That has a direct consequence for tutoring: practical marks are largely won by reasoning that can be taught without a bench. A student who can explain why a measurement was repeated, distinguish systematic from random error, read a scale to the correct precision and suggest an improvement that is specific rather than generic will score well on that paper. None of those skills requires the tutor to be in a laboratory, and all of them respond to marked practice on past papers.

Where a syllabus does require laboratory assessment, the laboratory is the school's and should be. Your child has access to apparatus, a teacher who knows it, and technicians who maintain it. A tutor offering to replicate any of that would be offering something worse than what the student already has. What a tutor adds is the thinking either side: anticipating the error sources before the experiment and interpreting the numbers honestly afterwards.

Confirm which route applies to your child, because it changes what the preparation should look like. Ask the school whether each science entry includes a practical assessment or an alternative-to-practical paper. The answer takes one line and it determines whether past-paper practical reasoning is a central part of the plan or an incidental one. It is also a question that reveals quickly whether a prospective tutor knows the syllabus.

Questions that reveal whether a tutor knows your science syllabus

Credentials in this market are largely unverifiable, so ask about the syllabus instead. Somebody who has taught your child's entry answers these in specifics; somebody working from a general science background answers in adjectives. You do not need science yourself to hear the difference, which is the whole point of using questions with concrete answers.

Start with the entry. Which code is my child on, and what are the papers? What does the Core route cap, and when can it be reviewed? Is there an alternative-to-practical paper on this syllabus? For Cambridge chemistry, what are the qualitative analysis tables and how do you teach them? For physics, how do you teach a six-mark question? For biology, what is the difference between describe and explain in a mark scheme?

Then the operational questions. Do you hold the MoHRE private tuition work permit? Will you teach every session or could it be reassigned? What will you do with a piece of my child's coursework, exactly? And the most informative question available, which almost nobody is asked: what would make you tell me you are not the right tutor for this student? A specific answer indicates experience; an insistence that nothing would indicates a sales script.

Write the answers down. A week later every provider sounds similar in memory, and the distinction between an answer that named a paper structure and one that described enthusiasm is the only comparison worth making. Ask the same questions of us. If we cannot answer them for your child's specific entry, we are not the right match for it and you should know that before you book rather than in week three.

05

Where marks go in each of the three sciences

  • Biology: imprecise language, not missing knowledge, is the usual cause
  • Chemistry: moles and qualitative analysis are the two cheapest high-return repairs
  • Physics: a standard working layout and six-mark technique beat more content
  • All three: a maths-for-science block often lifts two subjects from one booking

Biology first, because it is the most commonly misdiagnosed. Students who understand biology lose marks to imprecise language. An answer that does not name the structure, the process and the consequence scores nothing, and the student leaves the examination believing they answered it. The fix is marked practice in which the tutor reads the answer back and shows exactly which clause earned nothing, repeated until the habit changes.

Chemistry has two high-return areas. Moles and concentration calculations are a finite set of procedures and respond to four focused sessions. The Cambridge qualitative analysis tables, which cover the tests and observations for ions and gases, are pure drillable content that students are rarely made to learn systematically. Both are cheap repairs with a visible effect on a marked paper, and both are better value than general chemistry revision.

Physics loses marks in two places. Multi-step calculations where a unit is dropped or an answer is left in the wrong power of ten, and six-mark written answers that describe an effect without naming the mechanism. The first is fixed by a standard working layout, written out every time; the second by marked practice with a mark scheme open. Neither needs more content teaching, which is what most families buy.

Across all three there is one shared gap worth attacking first: the mathematics. Rearranging formulae, standard form, percentages and unit conversion appear in every physics paper and most chemistry ones. A student weak there looks weak in two subjects simultaneously, which leads families to buy two subject tutors when one four-session maths-for-science block would have lifted both. Diagnose it before deciding how many tutors to hire.

The series, the resits and when science money should be spent

Cambridge International runs IGCSE, O Level and International A Level examinations in a June series and a November series. The February and March series exists but is offered to India only, so no student at a Dubai Festival City school will sit it, and any page handing a UAE parent a February entry deadline has imported another country's calendar. Pearson Edexcel International GCSE runs in May and June and again in November.

Cambridge allocates every centre to one of six administrative zones and states that it is essential to use the correct version of the timetable for your zone, adding that it cannot accept responsibility for candidates who miss an examination after using the wrong one. Pearson publishes provisional timetables ahead of each series and revises them. So take dates from your school's exams officer or the board's live timetable, never from a tutoring page.

The useful shape for spending is this. Year 10 autumn for establishing the entry and the tier. Year 10 spring for the one subject or the one cross-subject skill that is structurally weak. Year 11 autumn for reading the marked mocks, which are the best free diagnostic data available anywhere in the two years. Year 11 spring for marked timed practice and practical reasoning, which is where science technique genuinely moves.

On resits, Pearson's November 2025 International GCSE results reached students on 22 January 2026, while June 2026 results went to centres on 19 August 2026 and to students the following day. That January timing makes the November series a workable resit route for a sixth-form conversation. Entry fees are set by the examination centre rather than by a tutor, so ask the school and hold a reserve rather than committing the whole budget to lessons.

Verifying the person, and the boundary on coursework

  • MoHRE private tuition work permit: free for two years, so ask directly
  • Centres with premises need a KHDA institute permit, which is a different authorisation
  • Distrust self-asserted ratings and unevidenced examiner claims
  • Coursework support means teaching and feedback, never producing the work

Private tutoring in the UAE requires a permit. The MoHRE private tuition work permit was introduced by Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023, and u.ae states it is granted free of charge for two years. Eligible applicants include teachers registered in government or private schools, employees in the government and private sectors, unemployed individuals, university students and school students aged 15 to 18. Those tutoring without one are subject to fines and penalties under the applicable laws, and no schedule of amounts is published anywhere official.

Because the permit is free, a tutor who does not hold one has saved nothing by skipping it, which makes it a reasonable question to ask directly. A tutoring operation with premises and staff in Dubai is a different matter: it needs a KHDA Educational Services Permit for a training institute, with initial approval first and annual renewal requested at least 30 days before expiry. IB Gram holds no such permit and does not describe itself as KHDA approved.

Two further checks. Be sceptical of self-asserted star ratings: competitors in this market publish review figures that contradict each other on the same page, and at least one shows a rating in its markup that differs from the visible number. And be sceptical of examiner labelling, which is the cheapest unverifiable credential available. We do not describe any tutor as a current Cambridge or Pearson examiner unless the status can be evidenced.

On coursework and assignments the boundary is the same across all three sciences. A tutor may teach the content, explain what a task is assessing, work through a comparable example on a different topic, read what your child has written and say where it falls short, and teach referencing. A tutor may not write, complete or edit the work to a finished state. Assessed work submitted as a student's own that is not theirs is a malpractice matter, and the consequence lands on the student.

08

Starting from Dubai Festival City, and what we will not claim

  • Send the codes, the tiers, the entry shape and two marked papers
  • Free trial lesson, then a written note sorted by cause rather than topic
  • No home visits in the UAE, no UAE office, no board or regulator approval claimed
  • No grade predictions, and no board documents supplied as downloads

Send the codes and tiers for each science, the entry shape, and the last two marked papers for the weakest subject. Add the hour your child is genuinely at a desk, allowing for the bus from Al Mizhar or the queue out of Festival City. We then match a tutor to that entry and run a free trial lesson as live one-to-one video on Gulf Standard City time, at no cost, with the tutor expected to name the paper structure back to you.

Afterwards you receive a written note setting out where marks are being lost, sorted by cause rather than by topic: command terms, language precision, procedures, units and formula handling, practical reasoning, or a genuine content gap. For many students the recommendation is a cross-subject skills block rather than a subject tutor, because one booking then lifts two or three sciences. If that is the finding, we will say so even though it sells less.

The limits, plainly stated. IB Gram does not run home visits in the UAE; home visits are a service we offer only in India. There is no UAE office, centre or branch, and we claim none. We hold no board or regulator approval. We do not supply syllabus documents, past papers or mark schemes as downloads, because reproducing them is not ours to do; we reference them and link to the official source.

And we make no grade predictions. What the first month should produce is a child who can name their syllabus code and their tier, a written note identifying the dominant cause of lost marks, and one visible habit change, usually in how a six-mark answer is structured or in whether the unit appears on every answer. Grade movement takes longer, and a provider that opens with a prediction has told you how it operates.

Where we tutor

How deep local science supply actually runs

These notes describe the local tutoring market rather than the neighbourhoods: which science requests can realistically be met nearby, and which cannot.

Al Badia

Closest to the Festival City campuses, so local supply is the best in the cluster for a single science at Core or lower Extended level. A Coordinated Science candidate needing all three subjects from one person is a different and much narrower request, even here.

Festival Boulevard and Marsa Al Khaimah

Apartment living with turnover that affects continuity. For a two-year science commitment across Years 10 and 11, ask who teaches every session and what happens if they relocate, because a February handover in a cumulative subject is expensive.

Nad Al Hamar

Long school runs mean a visiting tutor arrives in the evening window. Physics and chemistry calculation work suffers most in a tired hour, so the earlier online slot is worth more here than the distance alone would suggest.

Mirdif

The deepest tutoring market in eastern Dubai, so a single-subject science tutor at a fair rate is a realistic local expectation. The gap is boards: plenty of science tutors, fewer who have taught the specific Cambridge or Pearson code your school enters.

Al Mizhar and Al Khawaneej

Low density and the longest bus routes in the cluster. Local science supply is sparse across all three subjects, and families here usually conclude early that an online match is simply the better option rather than a compromise.

Al Warqa and Al Rashidiya

Established housing with many science tutors trained on CBSE or other curricula. Capable teachers, but somebody who has never taught 0620 Extended will not know the qualitative analysis tables or where that specific paper takes marks off.

Dubai Silicon Oasis

Large British-curriculum provision nearby and reasonable IGCSE science supply, particularly for separate subjects. Coordinated and Combined entries are less well served, because they need breadth rather than depth and the market is organised around depth.

Dubai International Academic City

University campuses nearby, which keeps the AED 33 to 65 budget band supplied. Undergraduate scientists are effective at drilling calculations and content recall, and are not the right people for extended written answers or practical reasoning.

Dubai Festival City and Garhoud

Dubai Festival City School runs the English National Curriculum through IGCSE, Deira International School enters IGCSE before the IB Diploma, and Dubai Scholars Private School serves the same area on a different pattern. Science entry shapes differ between them, which is exactly why a tutoring request has to start with the code rather than the subject name.

Mirdif and the eastern suburbs

Star International School Mirdif, Al Mizhar American Academy, Dubai English Speaking College and Uptown International School draw from the villa communities east of Festival City. Silicon Oasis and the southern corridor

GEMS Wellington Academy Silicon Oasis is one of the larger British-curriculum secondary providers in eastern Dubai, with Repton School Dubai and GEMS FirstPoint School on the same corridor. How matching works

From first enquiry to a tutor who fits

  1. 01

Ask the school for every science code and tier

In writing, subject by subject, because many Dubai schools enter different sciences with different boards. The reply tells you whether you are dealing with three separate sciences, a Coordinated award or a Combined one, and whether a Cambridge Core entry is capping the grade available.

  2. 02

Check whether a practical paper or an alternative applies

Ask whether each science entry includes a school-assessed practical component or a written alternative-to-practical paper. The answer determines whether past-paper practical reasoning is central to the plan, and it is also the question that most quickly reveals whether a tutor knows the syllabus.

  3. 03

Diagnose the shared gap before hiring per subject

Rearranging formulae, standard form, units and command terms cost marks in two or three sciences at once. A student weak there looks weak in multiple subjects, and one cross-subject block often lifts all of them for less than a single subject booking would cost.

  4. 04

Take the free trial lesson with the codes quoted

One live one-to-one video session at no cost. Quote the code and the tier beforehand and expect the tutor to name the paper structure back to you. If they cannot, the match is wrong and you should know that before any money is involved rather than in week three.

  5. 05

    Review after the mocks

Marked mock papers are the best free diagnostic data in the two years. Sort the lost marks by cause, cut subjects that have stabilised, intensify where something specific has been exposed, and decide whether to hold a reserve for a November entry. Most families never review and pay for ten months regardless.

Why families choose us

What UAE parents tell us matters most

Matched to the entry, not the word science

Three separate sciences, Coordinated 0653 and Combined 0654 are structurally different qualifications with different grade consequences. We ask which one before matching, because a tutor who assumes the wrong shape will teach confidently in the wrong direction for weeks.

Practical assessment explained properly

Cambridge offers a written alternative-to-practical paper on several syllabuses, which is the route most UAE candidates meet, and it is taught entirely through marked past papers. Competing pages leave this unanswered, which is why parents assume online science tuition cannot cover practicals.

You get questions, not credentials

Codes, paper structures, what Core caps, how a six-mark answer is taught, what the qualitative analysis tables are. Specific questions with concrete answers let you hear whether somebody knows the syllabus, and you should use them on us before using them on anybody else.

The shared gap gets diagnosed first

Formula rearrangement, standard form, units and command terms cost marks across two or three sciences at once. One cross-subject block often lifts all of them, which is cheaper than hiring per subject and almost never what a provider proposes.

The tier is raised while it is reviewable

Cambridge Core does not reach the top grades and the window to review the entry is Year 10. Most providers never mention it because final-term revision is easier to sell than a Year 10 assessment, and we would rather you heard it in time.

Coverage and claims both stated honestly

Coordinated and Combined entries are harder to match than single sciences, and we say so rather than substituting a specialist in one subject. We hold no board or regulator approval, claim none, and will not call a tutor an examiner without evidence.

Questions parents ask

IB and IGCSE tutoring in Dubai Festival City: your questions answered

Does my Dubai Festival City child sit three sciences or one combined award?+

Ask the school in writing, subject by subject, for the board and the code. The reply will name something like Cambridge 0620 and 0625 for separate chemistry and physics, or 0653 Coordinated Science awarded as a single grade, or Pearson 4CH1 and 4PH1. Those are structurally different qualifications: separate sciences give three grades and let a weakness be isolated, while a coordinated award gives one grade and needs a tutor with breadth across all three subjects.

Can one tutor cover biology, chemistry and physics for an eastern Dubai student?+

For a Coordinated or Combined award, one tutor with genuine breadth is the natural match and three specialists would be wasteful. For three separate sciences, usually not, because the weakness is rarely spread evenly and paying for subjects that are already fine is the commonest overspend here. Physics and chemistry pair well because they share a mathematical spine; biology sits further away since its demands are language precision and content volume rather than calculation.

How are IGCSE science practicals assessed if my child studies with an online tutor?+

Cambridge offers a written alternative-to-practical paper on several science syllabuses, and that is the route most candidates sitting from a UAE centre meet. It assesses apparatus selection, reading scales, identifying sources of error, interpreting results and suggesting specific improvements, all in writing. Every one of those skills is taught through marked past papers rather than at a bench. Where school-assessed practical work applies, the school's laboratory does that and a tutor should not try to replace it.

What does the Cambridge Core route cap, and can we change it?+

The Core route does not reach the top grades, because the papers sat do not contain the marks needed to cross those boundaries. The entry is decided by the school, usually during Year 10, and the realistic review window is Year 10 and the very start of Year 11. If your child is aiming at A Level or IB Diploma sciences, check whether the sixth-form requirement sits above the current ceiling, and bring a written diagnostic assessment to that conversation rather than a conviction.

Which IGCSE science do Dubai Festival City families ask for most?+

Chemistry, then physics, then biology, with Coordinated Science requests rising because several schools in eastern Dubai use that entry. Chemistry comes first partly because two of its hardest areas, moles calculations and the Cambridge qualitative analysis tables, are learnable procedures, so families see movement quickly. Biology requests come later, often after a mock, because students who understand the content lose marks to imprecise language and that pattern is not obvious from a report.

Why does my child understand biology but still score badly?+

Almost always language precision. Biology mark schemes want the structure, the process and the consequence named, and an answer that conveys general understanding without those three elements scores nothing. The student leaves the examination believing they answered the question. The repair is marked practice in which the tutor reads the answer back and shows exactly which clause earned nothing, repeated until the habit changes. It is technique rather than knowledge, and it moves faster than content work.

Do tutors come to homes in Al Badia or Al Khawaneej for science lessons?+

No. IB Gram does not run home visits anywhere in the UAE; that service exists only in India. For eastern Dubai the practical point is that a visiting tutor must satisfy subject, entry shape and driving distance at once, and it is the third filter that makes a Coordinated Science or Extended-tier match fail locally. Lessons here are live one-to-one video on Gulf Standard Time, with working, scale diagrams and mark schemes shared on screen.

Which board does our school enter for science, Cambridge or Pearson?+

Ask subject by subject rather than once, because many Dubai schools split boards across the sciences for staffing or historical reasons. Cambridge uses four-digit codes such as 0610 Biology, 0620 Chemistry and 0625 Physics, plus 0653 Coordinated and 0654 Combined. Pearson Edexcel International GCSE uses forms like 4BI1, 4CH1 and 4PH1. Quote the codes when requesting a tutor, and ask the tutor to repeat them back with the paper structure attached.

When are IGCSE science exams held for a UAE candidate?+

Cambridge International runs a June series and a November series in the UAE. The February and March series exists but is offered to India only, so no Dubai Festival City student will sit it, and any site quoting a February entry deadline to a UAE parent is using another country's calendar. Pearson Edexcel International GCSE runs May and June and again in November. Cambridge allocates every centre to one of six administrative zones, so take the real dates from the exams officer.

Is it worth fixing maths before paying for two science tutors?+

Very often, yes, and it is the cheapest decision available. Rearranging formulae, standard form, percentages and unit conversion appear in every physics paper and most chemistry ones, so a student weak there appears weak in two subjects at once. A four to six session maths-for-science block frequently lifts both without anybody being paid to teach either subject. Diagnose it from two marked papers before deciding how many subject tutors to hire.

How do I test whether a science tutor actually knows the syllabus?+

Ask which code and tier your child is on and what the papers are. Ask whether that syllabus has an alternative-to-practical paper. Ask what the Core route caps and when it can be reviewed. Ask how they teach a six-mark question, and for Cambridge chemistry what the qualitative analysis tables are. A specialist answers in specifics; somebody with a general science background answers in adjectives. Write the answers down, because every provider sounds similar a week later.

Can a science tutor help with school assignments and coursework?+

With teaching and feedback, yes; with producing the work, never. A tutor may explain what a task is assessing, work through a comparable example on a different topic, read what your child has written and say where it falls short, and teach referencing. A tutor may not write, complete or edit the work to a finished state. Assessed work submitted as a student's own that is not theirs is a malpractice matter, and the consequence lands on your child.

Does a science tutor in Dubai need a MoHRE permit?+

Yes. The private tuition work permit was introduced by Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023 and u.ae states it is granted free of charge for two years, covering registered school teachers, government and private-sector employees, unemployed residents, university students and school students aged 15 to 18. Those tutoring without one are subject to fines and penalties under the applicable laws, although no amounts are published. Because the permit costs nothing, ask the question directly and expect a straight answer.

Does a Coordinated Science award count the same for UAE equivalency?+

It is counted differently from three separate sciences towards a subject total, so check rather than assume. Verify on moe.gov.ae or with the emirate's attestation authority; IB Gram does not perform equivalency.

What should the first month of science tuition show for a Year 11 student?+

Three things and no grade. Your child should be able to name their syllabus code and tier for the subject being tutored. You should hold a written note identifying the dominant cause of lost marks, stated as command terms, language precision, procedures, units or practical reasoning. And one habit should visibly change, usually how a six-mark answer is structured or whether a unit appears on every answer. Grade movement takes longer than a month and nobody can promise it.

Get the code first, then the tutor

Almost every bad science tutoring experience in this corridor starts the same way: a parent asks for an IGCSE science tutor, a willing tutor says yes, and nobody establishes whether the child is sitting three separate sciences at Extended level or a single coordinated award with a different content map. One message to the school fixes that permanently. Send the codes, the tiers and two marked papers, take the free trial lesson at no cost, and read the written note before you commit. If it says fix the maths first, fix the maths first.
