IB Tutor near me in Dubai Festival City

Typing IB tutor near me in Dubai Festival City is not really a request for a postcode. It is a request for someone who knows the Diploma from the inside: which criterion letter a mark hangs on, what Paper 3 asks that Paper 2 does not, how the internal assessment is moderated. This page answers that question honestly for Al Badia, Festival Boulevard and the eastern suburbs, gives you the questions that separate a specialist from a confident generalist, and explains how we deliver live one-to-one video lessons instead.

  • Ten questions that expose whether a tutor knows the Diploma
  • Coverage limits disclosed rather than hidden behind a match promise

IB & IGCSE in Dubai Festival City

The honest answer to "is there an IB tutor near me in Dubai Festival City"

Probably not for the subject you need, if the subject is a Higher Level science or Higher Level mathematics. That is the answer, and it is worth putting first because the alternative is a page that implies otherwise and wastes your week. The International Baccalaureate accounted for 7 per cent of private school enrolment in Dubai in 2024-25, against 37 per cent on the UK curriculum and 26 per cent Indian. The Diploma pool is therefore a thin slice of a very large market, and the Higher Level science slice of that is thinner again.

Now narrow it geographically. A tutor who will drive to Al Badia or Nad Al Hamar has to live within a workable radius of eastern Dubai, be free in the specific hour your child is home and functioning, and happen to teach the exact subject and level in question. Those three filters applied together leave very few people for Chemistry HL, Physics HL or Mathematics: Analysis and Approaches HL. For Middle Years mathematics or Diploma Business Management the position is far better, and a local tutor is a perfectly reasonable choice.

This is why the better question is not who is nearby but how you tell whether someone knows the syllabus. The market makes that hard on purpose. Every tutoring site in this cluster claims IB expertise, several display self-asserted star ratings, one lists schools as trusted-by partners with no visible relationship, and one sells completed internal assessments outright. None of them tells you how to check. So the middle of this page is a set of questions that do check, and you can use them on us as readily as on anybody else.

What IB Gram actually offers a Dubai Festival City family is a live one-to-one video lesson with a tutor matched to the named subject and level, on Gulf Standard Time. We do not run home visits in the UAE; home visits are an India-only service. The reason that is a feature rather than an apology is the arithmetic above: removing the driving radius from the filter list means the only remaining filters are subject, level and hour, which is how you reach a specialist rather than a near neighbour.

The last part of the page is about verification: the permit a UAE tutor must hold, what each emirate regulator does, and the boundary around assessed work. Those are the three places where this market is weakest and where a parent has the most leverage. Ask the questions, expect specific answers, and treat vagueness as information.

One more framing worth holding. A tutor who is close by and good enough is not a bad outcome, and this page is not an argument that every Dubai Festival City family needs an online specialist. It is an argument that you should know which situation you are in before you choose. For Middle Years mathematics, a nearby tutor who understands criterion marking is an excellent answer. For Chemistry at Higher Level eight weeks before the papers, proximity is the filter most likely to cost a grade, and that is worth knowing in September rather than in April.

At a glance

  • IB enrolment was 7 per cent of Dubai's private school market in 2024-25; Higher Level specialists are scarcer still
  • A visiting tutor must satisfy three filters at once: subject, level and driving distance
  • Online matching removes the distance filter, leaving subject, level and hour
  • The questions in this page work on any provider, including this one
  • Verification has three parts: the MoHRE permit, the regulator map, and the rule on assessed work
IB programmes

Every IB programme stage, mapped to UAE school years

Which IB programme your child is in changes how scarce a genuine specialist is, and that is the single most useful thing to know before you start searching. These three are the ones Dubai Festival City families ask about, in ascending order of how hard a local match becomes.

PYPAges 3-12 · Pre-KG to Year 6

Primary Years Programme

Inquiry-led, with no external examinations and continuous teacher assessment through transdisciplinary units. Support here is about reading stamina, number fluency and the habit of explaining reasoning out loud. The content is not where the difficulty lies, so a strong primary teacher of any background is a legitimate match.

Local supply for PYP around Dubai Festival City and Mirdif is genuinely adequate, which makes this the one band where proximity is a reasonable filter. The vetting question that matters is whether the tutor understands inquiry-based reporting, because a PYP report reads nothing like a British-curriculum one and parents are often misled by it.

MYPAges 11-16 · Years 7-11

Middle Years Programme

Each subject is assessed against four criteria, A to D, each on a 1 to 8 scale, with the total converted to a 1 to 7 grade using published boundaries. Marks are lost on command verbs inside criterion strands far more often than on content, and on investigations where the method is sound and the evaluation is thin.

The decisive vetting question for MYP is simple: ask a prospective tutor to name the four criteria for the subject in question and say what each is worth. A specialist answers in a sentence. A generalist talks about the subject instead, which is the tell. Local supply in the eastern suburbs is reasonable at this level.

DPAges 16-19 · Years 12-13

Diploma Programme

Six subjects, three at Higher Level, plus Theory of Knowledge, the Extended Essay and Creativity, Activity, Service. Higher Level carries extra content and, in the sciences, additional paper demand. Each subject has an internal assessment marked against lettered criteria by the school's teacher and moderated by the IB.

This is where the local search usually fails for a Dubai Festival City family. Chemistry HL, Physics HL and Mathematics: Analysis and Approaches HL are the three hardest matches in the emirate, and the honest options are an online specialist or a compromise. We think the compromise costs more in the end, which is why we removed the distance filter rather than the standard.

Subject coverage

IB and IGCSE subjects we tutor

For each subject below, the description names the thing a specialist knows and a generalist usually does not. Use them as test questions. If a prospective tutor cannot talk fluently about the item named, they may still be a good teacher, but they are not yet an IB specialist in that subject.

Mathematics: Analysis and Approaches

HL and SL

Ask what Paper 3 is and how long it runs at HL. A specialist will tell you it is an extended problem-solving paper unique to Higher Level, and will know that Paper 1 is sat without a calculator, which is where calculator-dependent students collapse.

Mathematics: Applications and Interpretation

HL and SL

Ask where AI students lose marks. The specialist answer is interpretation rather than computation: a regression correctly calculated and then described in words that say nothing about the context earns the calculation marks and loses the rest.

Chemistry

HL and SL

Ask what the data booklet contains and when it is provided. A specialist will add that most students under-use it, and will name organic mechanisms and energetics as the two topics where Dubai Diploma students most reliably stall.

Physics

HL and SL

Ask how uncertainty is treated in the scientific investigation. Thin uncertainty analysis is the single commonest weakness in Physics internal assessment reports, and a tutor who has read real ones will say so without prompting.

Biology

HL and SL

Ask why Biology answers lose marks when the student understood the content. The answer is imprecision: a response that does not name the structure, the process and the consequence scores nothing, however sound the underlying grasp.

English A: Language and Literature

HL and SL

Ask what the individual oral requires. A specialist names the global issue and the two extracts, and knows that leaving the global issue unstated is the commonest avoidable loss in the whole component.

Economics

HL and SL

Ask what the internal assessment actually is. It is a portfolio of commentaries on published articles, and the commonest failure is a diagram drawn correctly and then never referred to in the analysis beneath it.

Business Management

HL and SL

Ask what the HL extension questions reward. Application to the stimulus organisation, not description of a tool. Students who have memorised frameworks and never applied one to an unfamiliar company lose marks in a predictable place.

Computer Science

HL and SL

Ask where the marks sit in the internally assessed solution. In the documentation, not the code. A working program with a thin design record scores badly, which surprises strong programmers every year.

Theory of Knowledge

Core component

Ask what TOK is assessed on. The exhibition and the prescribed-title essay, with the essay externally marked. A tutor who treats TOK as general discussion rather than as an assessed component is not going to help in the weeks that matter.

How sessions run

Tutoring formats built around UAE school timetables

Three ways a Dubai Festival City family can use a matched specialist, all delivered as live one-to-one or small-group video lessons on Gulf Standard Time. The first is the one most people should start with.

A single verification session

One lesson whose purpose is for you to find out whether this person knows the syllabus. Sit in for the first ten minutes if you want to. Ask the questions from this page beforehand and listen to how the tutor talks about criteria and papers rather than about enthusiasm. This is what the free trial lesson is for.

  • No cost, and no obligation to continue
  • Ask about criterion letters and paper structure specifically
  • Watch for specifics; vagueness about assessment is the warning sign
  • If the match is wrong, say so and it changes

Weekly one-to-one with a named specialist

The standard shape for a Higher Level subject across DP1 and DP2. The value is continuity with someone who knows the paper, so the test of this arrangement is whether the same person is still there in the second term. Ask about continuity before booking rather than after a handover.

  • Same tutor, same slot, no repeated re-explaining
  • Progress reported against criteria, not against effort
  • Pausable around mock weeks and family travel
  • Continuity commitment stated before you book

Component-targeted blocks

Short runs aimed at one assessed component: the Paper 3 extended question, a scientific investigation at the design stage, or the individual oral. These are the sessions where specialist knowledge shows most clearly, because a generalist can teach content and cannot teach a component they have never marked.

  • Four to six sessions with a defined end point
  • Aimed at one component, with criteria read out loud
  • Fits the school's own internal deadline calendar
  • Feedback on the student's own work only, never drafting

IB and IGCSE tutors available to students in Dubai Festival City

Every tutor below is listed against a named Diploma subject and level rather than a general label, because the match is the whole product. A Physics HL student and a Physics SL student share a syllabus but not a paper structure, and the person who can teach one is not automatically the person who can teach the other.

What IB and IGCSE study actually looks like in Dubai Festival City

01

The arithmetic of a local IB tutor pool

Put numbers on the problem and it stops being a matter of opinion. Dubai had 227 private schools in 2024-25 serving 387,441 pupils across 17 curricula, and the International Baccalaureate accounted for 7 per cent of that enrolment. Every other curriculum has a larger teaching workforce behind it, which means more people available to tutor it in the evenings. The Diploma teaching pool is small in absolute terms and it is spread across six subject groups and two levels.

Then divide by level. A school running the Diploma may have one or two teachers for Chemistry across both Higher and Standard Level, and those teachers are the most likely source of competent local tutors. In Abu Dhabi, ADEK's professional-ethics rules bar school staff from paid private tutoring of students enrolled at their own school, and the MoHRE permit carries a comparable code of conduct, so a school's own teachers are not an open pool even where they are nearby.

Then apply the radius and the hour. A tutor must be willing to reach Al Badia or Al Khawaneej, free between roughly 4pm and 6pm when a Diploma student is both home and still capable, and teaching the exact subject at the exact level. The table below sets out how that filter cascade lands subject by subject. It is a description of the market rather than a complaint about it, and for several rows the honest conclusion is that a local tutor is a perfectly good answer.

Ten questions that separate a specialist from a confident generalist

Credentials in this market are mostly unverifiable, so stop asking about them and start asking about the syllabus. A teacher who has taught Diploma Chemistry answers these in sentences. Someone who has read a summary online answers in adjectives. You do not need subject knowledge yourself to hear the difference, which is the point of using questions with concrete answers.

Ask what the internal assessment in this subject is, and what the criteria are called. Ask how many papers there are at this level and what each is worth. Ask what Paper 3 is, if the subject has one. Ask which topic most students in this subject find hardest and why. Ask what the student is allowed to be given during the examination. Ask what the command terms evaluate and compare require that describe does not.

Then ask the five operational questions. Do you hold the MoHRE private tuition work permit? Will you be the person teaching every session, or could it be reassigned? What will you do with a draft internal assessment, exactly? What happens if my child's grade does not move? And what would make you tell me that you are not the right tutor for this student? The last one is the most informative question in the list, and almost nobody is asked it.

Two further habits make these questions work better. Ask them before the trial lesson rather than during it, so the answers are not softened by the tutor having already met your child and read the room. And write the answers down, because a week later every provider sounds similar in memory, and the difference between an answer with criterion letters in it and an answer without them is the only comparison that matters.

03

Internal assessment criteria, and why letters matter more than enthusiasm

  • Criteria are published in each subject guide and held by the school's IB coordinator
  • Most avoidable marks are lost in evaluation and in uncertainty treatment, not in results
  • We reference board documents and link to the official source; we do not supply them
  • Ask a tutor to work from the school's own copy of the criteria in session

Every Diploma subject carries an internal assessment marked against lettered criteria by the school's own teacher, then moderated by the IB. The criteria are published in each subject guide, and they are the specification a student is actually being marked against. A tutor who has never read them can teach the content perfectly and still leave a student losing marks in a place neither of them is looking.

This is where the difference between a subject enthusiast and a Diploma specialist becomes concrete. Marks for an investigation do not come from having the right result. They come from a defined research question, a justified method, data handled with appropriate treatment of uncertainty, and an evaluation that engages with the limitations honestly. A student with an elegant experiment and a two-line evaluation loses a band in the criterion that carries it, every time.

The useful consequence for a Dubai Festival City parent is that you can ask to see the criteria. Not a copy from us; we do not reproduce or supply IB, Cambridge or Pearson documents, because that is not ours to distribute. Your child's subject teacher has them and the school's IB coordinator can print them. Ask your tutor to work through the assessment with the school's own copy in front of both of them. A specialist will welcome that. Anyone who deflects it has told you something.

One caution about how this is sold. Several providers in this market advertise criteria familiarity in general terms and then teach content only, because content teaching is easier to deliver and harder for a parent to audit. The audit is straightforward: after three sessions, ask your child which criterion their last piece of work was weakest on. A student who can answer that has been taught the assessment. A student who cannot has been taught the subject.

04

Availability, honestly: what happens when nobody is free

No researched competitor in this market discloses a coverage limit anywhere on their pages, and several route UAE parents to an Indian phone number without saying where delivery happens. We would rather be dull about it. The after-school window on Gulf Standard Time is the busiest part of the week, and within it Chemistry HL, Physics HL and Mathematics AA HL fill first, because that is where demand and scarcity meet.

When your preferred hour and subject are both taken, you get one of three answers: the nearest available slot, a named wait, or an honest statement that we cannot cover this combination at present. What you will not get is a quiet substitution. A family who books Chemistry HL and receives a general science tutor finds out in week three, by which point the term has moved and the trust has gone.

There is one more disclosure worth making. Where a UAE-based specialist is not available for a niche subject, the tutor matched may be based elsewhere and teaching into Gulf Standard Time. That is normal for online delivery and it is not a secret; it is simply the mechanism that makes a specialist reachable from Al Khawaneej at all. What matters is that the hour suits your household and the person knows the paper.

Two practical responses to a wait. The first is to move the hour rather than the subject: a weekend morning or a 3.45pm slot often opens a match that a 5pm slot cannot. The second is to start with a component block rather than a weekly booking, because a four-session run on one assessed component is easier to place in a full diary than a recurring slot held for two terms.

05

Verifying the person: permit, identity and continuity

  • MoHRE private tuition work permit: Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023, free for two years
  • Ask who teaches each session and what happens if they leave mid-year
  • No official fine schedule exists; distrust any site quoting a penalty amount
  • Self-asserted ratings and unevidenced examiner claims are the two commonest inflations here

Three checks cover most of the risk. The first is the permit. Private tutoring in the UAE is regulated: the MoHRE private tuition work permit was introduced by Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023, and u.ae records that it is granted free of charge for two years. Eligible applicants include registered school teachers, government and private-sector employees, unemployed residents, university students and school students aged 15 to 18. Those tutoring without it are subject to fines and penalties under the applicable laws, though no schedule of amounts is published anywhere official.

The second is identity and continuity. Ask who will teach each session and whether it can be reassigned. Ask what happens if that person leaves. Transient tenancy in apartment communities like Festival Boulevard makes mid-year loss of a local tutor a real pattern rather than a rare event, and a handover in February costs a student more than a slightly weaker tutor in September would have.

The third is claims. Treat any self-asserted star rating with suspicion: competitors in this market publish review counts that contradict each other on the same page, and one shows a rating in its markup that differs from the figure visible to a reader. Treat examiner labelling the same way. We do not describe any tutor as a current IB or Cambridge examiner unless the status can be evidenced, because it is the cheapest unverifiable credential available and it is used constantly.

A fourth check costs nothing and catches a surprising amount. Ask for the tutor's own account of a student they could not help and why. Someone who has taught for years has that story and tells it without defensiveness. Someone who has not will either invent one or insist it has never happened, and both answers tell you how much of what you are hearing is experience and how much is a sales script.

06

Who regulates what, across the emirates

Parents moving within the UAE are often surprised that the regulator changes with the emirate. In Dubai, the Knowledge and Human Development Authority is responsible for enhancing and overseeing the quality of private education. In Abu Dhabi and Al Ain, the Department of Education and Knowledge supervises the licensing and accreditation of private schools. Sharjah's Private Education Authority regulates private education in that emirate, Ras Al Khaimah's Department of Knowledge does the same there, and the Ministry of Education supervises private schools in Ajman, Umm Al Quwain and Fujairah.

The powers are not identical. Sharjah's and Ras Al Khaimah's authorities approve tuition fees, curricula, programmes, courses, activities and assessment methods, so curriculum and fee approval sits with the emirate regulator rather than only inspection. Federally, private schools are not obliged to follow a specific curriculum beyond Arabic language, social studies and Islamic studies, but must adhere to the Ministry's general regulations, which is the rule behind every emirate's mandatory-subject requirement.

Knowing the map is a defence against a specific marketing move. A provider that calls itself KHDA approved is not paying itself a loose compliment; it is invoking a KHDA Educational Services Permit, issued to training institutes with premises in Dubai, where initial approval comes first and renewal must be requested at least 30 days before expiry. IB Gram holds no such permit and does not claim one. Nor do we claim approval from ADEK, SPEA, the Ministry of Education, the IB, Cambridge or Pearson, because we hold none of them. You should ask every provider the same question and compare the answers.

07

The boundary around assessed work, stated plainly

  • Allowed: teaching, criteria explanation, feedback on the student's own draft, referencing
  • Not allowed: writing, completing, rewriting or supplying any part of assessed work
  • Buy the question-setting hour and the first-draft feedback hour; skip the middle
  • Get the boundary in writing from whichever provider you choose

A tutor may teach content, explain each criterion, press on a research question until it is answerable, model a comparable example on a different topic, read a draft the student has written and say where it falls short, and teach referencing properly. A tutor may not write, draft, complete, rewrite or supply any part of an internal assessment, Extended Essay, Theory of Knowledge essay or any other assessed work. There is no premium version of this service and no discreet version of it either.

The reason is the consequence. Internal assessment is marked by the school's teacher against published criteria and moderated by the IB, and the student declares the work as their own. Work that is not theirs is malpractice, and the outcome falls on the student rather than on whoever was paid. One site competing for these queries sells completed internal assessments at AED 3,750. That is not a shortcut with a price; it is a finding with a price.

Practically, this changes how to buy coursework support. The hours worth paying for sit at the start, when a research question is still cheap to fix, and at the point of a complete first draft. The hours in between are usually someone watching a student type. Ask any provider to put in writing what they will and will not do with assessed work before money moves, and keep the reply. A provider unwilling to write it down has answered the question.

08

Starting from Dubai Festival City, and what we will not claim

  • Name the component, not just the subject; it is what the match turns on
  • Free trial lesson first, written gap note second, booking third
  • No UAE office, no home visits, no regulator approval claimed
  • No IB session or results dates published here; the school's coordinator holds them

Send three things: the subject, the level, and the component that is going wrong. We match a tutor to that exact combination and run a free trial lesson as live one-to-one video on Gulf Standard Time, at no cost. Ask the questions from the middle of this page during or before it. Afterwards you receive a short written note of where the marks are going, by topic and component, and a recommended number of hours.

The limits are stated rather than buried. IB Gram does not run home visits in the UAE, has no office, centre or branch in the country, and does not claim one. We hold no regulator or board approval and do not imply any. We publish no IB examination or results dates, because ibo.org blocks automated checking and an unverified date on a tutoring page is worse than silence; your child's IB coordinator holds the real calendar. And when a specialist is not available at your hour, we say so.

What is left is the thing you were actually searching for: somebody who knows the paper. The distance filter was never what you wanted, it was just the only filter a local search gives you. Remove it and the remaining question is whether this particular tutor can talk about your child's syllabus in specifics. That question has an answer, it costs nothing to test, and you should test it on us before you test it on anyone else.

Where we tutor

Where "near me" actually reaches from Dubai Festival City

These notes describe the local tutor market rather than the property market: how deep local supply runs, and which levels it genuinely covers. They are the honest basis for deciding whether proximity is worth keeping as a filter.

Al Badia

The community closest to Deira International School and the one with the best local supply in the cluster, because proximity to an IB continuum school attracts tutors who know it. Supply is strongest at Primary and Middle Years and thins sharply at Higher Level sciences.

Festival Boulevard and Marsa Al Khaimah

Apartment living with a transient tenancy pattern, which affects tutor continuity more than availability. Families here report losing a tutor mid-year to relocation more often than elsewhere in the cluster, so continuity is worth asking about explicitly.

Nad Al Hamar

Villas with limited walkable provision, so local tutors tend to be people who already travel for work. That makes them more willing to drive and less likely to be free in the earliest afternoon window, which is the one most useful to a Diploma student.

Mirdif

The deepest local tutor market in the eastern suburbs, helped by an IB continuum school of its own. Middle Years coverage is good. Diploma Higher Level coverage is the same thin layer found everywhere else in the emirate, which is the pattern worth internalising.

Al Mizhar and Al Khawaneej

Low-density villa areas where any visiting tutor is making a long trip. Local supply is sparse at every level, and families here are the quickest to conclude that an online specialist is simply the better answer rather than the fallback.

Al Rashidiya and Al Warqa

Established housing with a mix of curricula, so local tutors here are more often British or Indian curriculum specialists than IB ones. A tutor who teaches IGCSE Chemistry well is not thereby a Chemistry HL tutor, and the distinction is frequently blurred.

Dubai Silicon Oasis

Denser and younger, with a large British-curriculum school and nearby university campuses. Undergraduate tutors are available and inexpensive, which suits homework support and does not suit Higher Level Diploma teaching.

Dubai International Academic City

University district. The budget tutoring band in Dubai, published at AED 45 to 65 by EdFlik and AED 33 to 52 by Tutopiya, exists largely because of districts like this one. Useful work at that rate, but not Diploma specialist work.

School ecosystem

IB and Cambridge school communities we support in Dubai Festival City

Dubai Festival City, Al Badia and Garhoud

Deira International School runs the IB continuum through to Diploma, and Universal American School offers the Diploma on an American spine. A tutor who claims familiarity with this cluster should be able to say which of these runs the continuum and which does not, without being prompted. It is a cheap test and a revealing one.

Mirdif, Nad Al Sheba and the eastern suburbs

This is the catchment where local Diploma tutoring concentrates, and where its Higher Level gaps are most visible to anyone who has tried to book one in October.

How matching works

From first enquiry to a tutor who fits

  1. 01

Say the subject, the level and the component

Chemistry HL and Chemistry SL are different requests, and Paper 3 trouble is a different request from internal assessment trouble. Naming all three means the first session begins on the problem rather than on reconnaissance, and it lets us tell you immediately whether we can cover it.

  2. 02

Interrogate the tutor before you commit

Use the questions from this page in the free trial lesson. Ask what the internal assessment is, what the criteria are called, how many papers there are at this level, and what the tutor would do with a draft. Listen for specifics; vagueness about assessment is the warning you are looking for.

  3. 03

    Read the written gap note

After the trial you receive a short account of where the marks are being lost, by topic and component, with a recommended number of hours. It should be arguable. A note that recommends the maximum in every case is a sales document, and you are entitled to say so.

  4. 04

    Agree the continuity terms

Ask who teaches every session and what happens if they become unavailable. Mid-year handovers are the commonest hidden cost in tutoring and the easiest to prevent by raising it before booking rather than after. Get the answer in writing alongside the boundary on assessed work.

  5. 05

Review against criteria, not against effort

At each report cycle, check progress against the published criteria for the subject rather than against how hard the student seems to be trying. Cut hours in subjects that have stabilised and add intensity where a mock has exposed something specific. The plan should look different each term.

Why families choose us

What UAE parents tell us matters most

The scarcity is stated, not hidden

IB enrolment was 7 per cent of Dubai's private school market in 2024-25, and Higher Level science specialists are a thin layer within that. Pages in this cluster imply unlimited local coverage. We would rather tell you where the gaps are, because that is the information you were searching for.

You get questions, not credentials

Credential claims in this market are largely unverifiable, so the page hands you questions with concrete answers instead. Criterion letters, paper counts, what Paper 3 is, what happens to a draft. You do not need subject knowledge to hear whether an answer is specific.

Matched to subject and level, never to a radius

A visiting tutor has to satisfy subject, level and driving distance at once, which is why Higher Level matches fail locally. Removing the distance filter is what makes a Chemistry HL specialist reachable from Al Khawaneej or Nad Al Hamar in the first place.

Coverage limits disclosed

No researched competitor in this market publishes a coverage limit anywhere. When your hour and subject are both full, you get the nearest slot, a named wait, or an honest no. You do not get a general science tutor quietly substituted for a Chemistry HL specialist.

No borrowed authority

We explain what KHDA, ADEK, SPEA, MoHRE and the Ministry of Education each govern, and claim approval from none, because IB Gram holds none. The KHDA Educational Services Permit is a specific authorisation for institutes with premises, and anyone invoking it loosely should be asked for the number.

A written boundary on assessed work

Tutors teach, explain criteria and give feedback on the student's own drafts. They do not write or complete an internal assessment, Extended Essay or TOK essay. We will put that in writing, and you should ask every provider you consider to do the same.

Questions parents ask

IB and IGCSE tutoring in Dubai Festival City: your questions answered

Is there actually an IB tutor near me in Dubai Festival City?+

For Primary and Middle Years, very likely, and proximity is a reasonable filter at those levels. For Chemistry HL, Physics HL or Mathematics: Analysis and Approaches HL, probably not within a workable radius of Al Badia or Nad Al Hamar. The International Baccalaureate was 7 per cent of Dubai private school enrolment in 2024-25, so the Diploma teaching pool is small, and dividing it by subject, by level and by who is free at 4.30pm leaves very few people. Online matching removes only the distance filter.

What questions should I ask to test whether a tutor really knows the Diploma?+

Ask what the internal assessment in that subject is and what it is worth. Ask what the criteria are called and what each one assesses. Ask how many papers there are at this level and whether there is a Paper 3. Ask what the student is given in the examination. A specialist answers in sentences with specifics; someone working from a summary answers in adjectives. Then ask the operational question almost nobody asks: what would make you tell me you are not the right tutor for this student?

Will a tutor come to our home in Al Badia or Al Khawaneej?+

No. IB Gram does not run home visits anywhere in the UAE; that is a service we offer only in India. Lessons for Dubai Festival City families are delivered as live one-to-one video on Gulf Standard Time. The reason this is an advantage rather than a limitation is the filter arithmetic: a visiting tutor must match subject, level and driving distance simultaneously, and it is the third filter that makes Higher Level science matches fail across eastern Dubai.

Could we just pay a teacher at our Dubai Festival City school for extra lessons?+

It should not be offered to you. In Abu Dhabi, ADEK's professional-ethics rules for private and charter school staff bar teachers from providing paid private tutoring to students enrolled at their own school, and the MoHRE private tuition work permit carries a code of conduct that also restricts serving students affiliated with the tutor's own school. Treat the ADEK position as press-reported and verify it against the current policy document. Either way, a provider marketing your child's own teacher privately is marketing a conflict.

How can I check whether a tutor is legally permitted to teach in the UAE?+

Ask directly whether they hold the MoHRE private tuition work permit, introduced by Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023. The u.ae guidance states it is granted free of charge for two years and lists eligible applicants including registered school teachers, government and private-sector employees, unemployed residents, university students and school students aged 15 to 18. Because it costs nothing, there is no reasonable excuse for not holding it. Those operating without one are subject to fines and penalties under the applicable laws.

What does a Diploma specialist know that a good general tutor does not?+

The assessment machinery. A general tutor can teach the chemistry; a specialist knows that the internal assessment is marked against lettered criteria by the school's teacher and moderated by the IB, that the data booklet is provided and under-used, and that evaluation and uncertainty treatment are where marks quietly disappear. That knowledge changes what a session does. Content teaching helps a student understand; assessment knowledge helps a student convert understanding into marks, which is a separate skill.

Does online tutoring work as well as having someone in the room?+

For Diploma work it usually works better, because a shared screen beats a shared notebook. Both people see the same working at the same size, a past-paper question can be annotated live, and the published criteria can be open beside the student's own draft. What a video lesson needs is a quiet room, a charged device and occasional parental attention. What it removes is travel, late arrivals, and a radius limit on who is allowed to be your child's tutor.

Which IB subjects are hardest to find anyone for in eastern Dubai?+

Chemistry Higher Level first, then Physics Higher Level, then Mathematics: Analysis and Approaches Higher Level, with Theory of Knowledge and Extended Essay process coaching close behind. The reason is the same in each case: a small Diploma teaching workforce, split by level, further reduced by who is free in the late-afternoon window. For Business Management, Economics, humanities and languages, local supply around Mirdif and Al Badia is noticeably better and worth trying.

What happens if you cannot find a specialist for our subject and hour?+

You get one of three answers: the nearest available slot, a named wait, or an honest statement that we cannot cover the combination at present. Higher Level sciences and Mathematics AA HL fill first in the after-school window on Gulf Standard Time. What you will not get is a quiet substitution with a generalist, which a family typically discovers in week three. None of the competitors researched in this market discloses a coverage limit anywhere on their pages.

Is IB Gram approved by KHDA or by the IB itself?+

No, and nobody should tell you otherwise. A KHDA Educational Services Permit is a specific authorisation issued to training institutes with premises in Dubai, requiring initial approval first and renewal at least 30 days before expiry. IB Gram holds no such permit, holds no IB, Cambridge or Pearson accreditation, and occupies no UAE office, centre or branch. What we do is explain what each regulator governs so you can check any provider's claims against the authority rather than against its own marketing.

Can a tutor help my child with their Internal Assessment or Extended Essay?+

With teaching and feedback, yes. A tutor can explain each criterion, press on a research question until it is answerable, model a comparable example on an unrelated topic, read a draft your child has written and say where it falls short, and teach referencing. A tutor cannot write, draft, complete or supply any part of it. The work is declared as the student's own and moderated by the IB, so the consequence of anything else lands on your child rather than on the tutor.

How quickly can a Dubai Festival City family be matched to a tutor?+

For subjects with reasonable supply, usually within a few days, because the constraint is finding a mutually workable hour rather than finding a person. For Chemistry HL, Physics HL or Mathematics AA HL in the busiest after-school window, it can take longer and we will give you a named wait rather than a vague reassurance. If speed matters more than the exact hour, say so, because a weekend or earlier-afternoon slot usually opens the match immediately.

Do you publish IB exam dates for Dubai students?+

No, deliberately. The IB's own site blocks automated checking, so no IB session or results date in this project has been confirmed from the IB itself, and publishing an unverified date that a parent plans around would be worse than publishing nothing. UAE schools sit the May examinations; your child's IB coordinator holds the actual windows and internal deadlines. For Cambridge and Pearson, sourced dates do exist, and those are the ones you will find elsewhere on this site.

Should I be suspicious of tutoring sites that show star ratings?+

Of self-asserted ones, yes. Competitors in this market publish review figures that contradict each other on the same page, and at least one shows a rating in its structured data that differs from the number a reader can see. Self-serving review markup is against Google's structured-data policy and, as a commercial representation in the UAE, a consumer-protection exposure. Ask where a rating comes from, how many reviews, over what period, and whether individual reviews are visible and dated.

What should the first month of tutoring actually produce?+

Three things, none of them a grade. Your child should be able to say which paper and which component they are being prepared for. You should hold a written list of the topics costing marks. And one aspect of how an answer is structured should visibly improve, because technique moves faster than content. Grade movement takes longer and nobody can promise it. A provider that opens with a predicted grade instead of a diagnosis has shown you how it operates.

Stop searching for nearby and start testing for specific

Proximity was never the thing you wanted; it was the only filter a local search offered you. What you wanted was someone who can say what the internal assessment is called, what each criterion assesses and where this particular paper eats marks. That is testable, and testing it costs nothing: a free trial lesson with a tutor matched to your child's exact subject and level, delivered as live one-to-one video on Gulf Standard Time. Bring the questions from this page. Use them on us first, then on everyone else you are considering, and compare the specifics rather than the enthusiasm.
