IB Chemistry Tutor in Dubai Festival City

Hiring an IB chemistry tutor in Dubai Festival City is a decision about which hours to buy, not just about an hourly rate. Some chemistry topics cost two sessions to repair and some absorb a term. This page prices them separately, in AED, with the market bands attributed, so a family in Al Badia, Festival Boulevard or Nad Al Hamar can spend on the expensive problems and skip the cheap ones. Lessons run as live one-to-one video on Gulf Standard Time with the data booklet open on a shared screen.

  • Cost to fix published topic by topic, not as one hourly figure
  • The data booklet treated as a skill, because the marks are there
  • Investigation support is feedback on your child's own work only

IB & IGCSE in Dubai Festival City

Which chemistry hours are worth paying for

Chemistry is unusually uneven in how much a repair costs. Reading the data booklet properly is close to a free lesson and claims marks in every series. The mole calculations are a finite set of procedures that most students can be made fluent in within four sessions. Organic mechanisms are different: they absorb more paid hours than any other part of the Diploma chemistry course, because the student has to build a way of seeing reactions rather than learn a list. Buying those three as if they cost the same is how a budget goes wrong.

The rate bands first, since they frame everything. Unitors advertises IB tuition from AED 200 an hour. Bestimate's Tutoring Cost Dubai 2026 table puts IB, IGCSE and A-Level specialists at AED 200 to 450 and above, and TutorChase publishes AED 270. Budget online tuition runs AED 33 to 52 at Tutopiya and AED 45 to 65 at EdFlik. In-home one-to-one is quoted at AED 180 to 500 with travel inside the figure. All published by those providers and read in October 2026, and none of them is an IB Gram price.

Now the arithmetic a parent can actually use. A four-session mole-calculation block at the qualified band is a contained, measurable purchase with a visible outcome on the next marked paper. A term of organic chemistry at the specialist band is a much larger commitment and sometimes the correct one. Bestimate's monthly estimate for an exam-year specialist at one weekly hour is AED 1,000 to 2,000 and above, so a two-term organic plan is a serious sum and should be entered into deliberately rather than by default.

The commonest waste in this subject is paying for content coverage when the problem is the data booklet, the command terms or the uncertainty treatment. A student who does not know that the booklet contains the information they are trying to recall will lose marks across all three papers while appearing to have a knowledge gap. That is a two-session fix being treated as a two-term one, and it is diagnosed by looking at two marked papers rather than by anybody's intuition.

IB Gram does not run home visits in Dubai; home visits are a service we offer only in India. For Dubai Festival City the delivery is live one-to-one video on Gulf Standard Time. Chemistry benefits specifically: the data booklet and the student's own working can sit side by side on a shared screen, a mechanism can be drawn and annotated arrow by arrow, and a mark scheme can be opened beside an attempt so the student sees which of their sentences earned nothing.

What follows is the syllabus split into Structure and Reactivity, the data booklet treated as the skill it is, an honest account of why organic chemistry is expensive, where marks go by paper component, how the investigation deadline governs the calendar, and what the Higher Level choice commits a family to.

At a glance

  • Repair cost varies enormously by topic: the data booklet is nearly free, organic chemistry is not
  • Market bands, October 2026: AED 33-65 budget; AED 150-300 qualified; AED 200-450+ specialist
  • Bestimate's exam-year specialist monthly estimate for one weekly hour is AED 1,000-2,000+
  • A data-booklet or command-term problem often looks exactly like a knowledge gap
  • Two marked papers, sorted by cause, decide the plan before any money is spent
IB programmes

Every IB programme stage, mapped to UAE school years

Chemistry arrives in the Diploma from two directions and the gap differs sharply depending on which. These are the stages a Dubai Festival City family is budgeting across.

MYPAges 11-16 · Years 7-11

Middle Years Programme sciences

Integrated or discrete sciences assessed against four criteria, A to D, each on a 1 to 8 scale. The investigating criterion is the closest MYP analogue to the Diploma's scientific investigation, and students who treated it as a write-up rather than as a designed piece of work arrive at the Diploma with that habit intact.

A student moving from MYP into Diploma chemistry at a Dubai Festival City school usually has reasonable investigation instincts and unreliable quantitative skill. Moles, concentration and gas calculations are where the gap shows, and they are all arithmetic with chemical labels, so a short early block is the cheap intervention.

IGCSEAges 14-16 · Years 10-11

IGCSE chemistry or combined science

Cambridge 0620 or Pearson 4CH1 for separate chemistry, or a combined entry covering all three sciences more narrowly. Students arriving from a combined entry meet considerably more Diploma content than those who sat separate chemistry, particularly in organic and in energetics.

This is the commoner local route, since several schools near Dubai Festival City run IGCSE before splitting at 16. The honest warning is that IGCSE organic chemistry is a small, recognisable syllabus section and Diploma organic chemistry is a way of reasoning, so a strong IGCSE grade predicts less here than parents expect.

DPAges 16-19 · Years 12-13

Diploma Programme chemistry

Organised around two themes, Structure and Reactivity. Structure covers models of the particulate nature of matter, models of bonding and structure, and the classification of matter. Reactivity covers what drives reactions, how much, how fast and how far they go, and electron-transfer reactions. Assessment is two written papers plus a scientific investigation worth 20 per cent.

Higher Level adds content within both themes and raises the extended-response demand. Deira International School runs the IB continuum to Diploma and GEMS Modern Academy at Nad Al Sheba is a long-established Diploma centre, so most chemistry requests in this corridor come from a small set of schools with similar scheme-of-work timing.

Subject coverage

IB and IGCSE subjects we tutor

This grid is Diploma chemistry sorted by what sessions get bought for, with an honest note on how expensive each one is to repair. Use it to choose two or three rather than booking the subject.

The data booklet

HL and SL

Provided in the examination and systematically under-used. It contains constants, equations, spectroscopic data and tables students spend time trying to recall. Learning what is in it and where is close to a free lesson, and it claims marks in every component. Cheapest repair in the course.

Mole calculations

HL and SL

Amount of substance, concentration, gas volumes, limiting reagents, percentage yield and atom economy. A finite set of procedures rather than a concept, so four focused sessions with marked practice usually produces fluency. Best value for money in the subject after the data booklet.

Bonding and structure

HL and SL

Ionic, covalent and metallic models, intermolecular forces, and the relationship between structure and physical properties. Marks are lost in explanation rather than recall: a student names the force and does not say what it does to the property being asked about.

Energetics and thermodynamics

HL and SL, deeper at HL

Enthalpy changes, Hess cycles, bond enthalpies and, at Higher Level, entropy and spontaneity. Sign conventions are where marks disappear, and Hess cycles reward a drawn diagram over an attempted mental calculation. A contained topic with a two to three session fix.

Kinetics

HL and SL, rate equations at HL

Rate measurement, collision theory, activation energy and, at Higher Level, rate equations and mechanisms. Higher Level students lose marks by quoting orders from a table without reasoning from the data, which is an interpretation habit rather than a knowledge gap.

Equilibrium

HL and SL, calculations at HL

Dynamic equilibrium, Le Chatelier reasoning and equilibrium constants. The commonest error is explaining a shift by restating Le Chatelier rather than by reasoning about the specific system in front of the student, which earns a fraction of the available marks.

Acids and bases

HL and SL, buffers and pH curves at HL

Acid-base theory, pH, strong and weak behaviour and, at Higher Level, buffers and titration curves. Titration curve questions reward reading the graph before calculating, and are among the more predictable question types in the whole course.

Redox and electrochemistry

HL and SL, cells at HL

Oxidation states, half-equations, electrolysis and, at Higher Level, electrochemical cells and electrode potentials. Balancing half-equations in acidic or basic conditions is procedural and highly drillable, so it responds quickly to targeted practice.

Organic chemistry

HL and SL, mechanisms at HL

Functional groups, reaction types, synthetic routes and, at Higher Level, mechanisms with curly arrows, stereochemistry and spectroscopic identification. The most expensive part of the course to repair, because the student has to learn a way of seeing rather than a list of facts.

The scientific investigation

HL and SL, 20 per cent

An independent investigation marked against published criteria. Thin evaluation and a research question too broad for the available apparatus are the two failures that cost most, and both are decided at the planning stage where correction is cheapest.

How sessions run

Tutoring formats built around UAE school timetables

Three purchase shapes, matched to how expensive the underlying problem is. All run as live one-to-one video lessons on Gulf Standard Time, with the data booklet and the student's working side by side on screen.

Procedural block, four to six sessions

Aimed at one finite set of procedures: mole calculations, Hess cycles, balancing half-equations, titration curve reading. These are the cheap repairs in chemistry and they are measurable, because the next marked paper either shows the change or does not. The best-value purchase in the subject.

  • One procedure set, drilled and marked
  • Measurable on a past-paper section before and after
  • Works at the qualified band rather than the specialist band
  • Repeatable on the next procedure once the first is secure

Weekly across a term or two, for organic

Organic chemistry at Higher Level is the one part of the course that reliably needs duration rather than intensity. Mechanisms, synthetic routes and spectroscopic identification build on each other, and a student has to see enough examples for the pattern recognition to form. This is where a sustained booking is genuinely justified.

  • Same tutor across the term, because the reasoning is cumulative
  • Mechanisms drawn and annotated on a shared screen
  • Spectroscopic identification practised against the data booklet
  • Reviewed after mocks and cut if the pattern has formed

Investigation planning, front-loaded

Two or three sessions timed against the school's internal deadline: one at the research-question stage, one on method and uncertainty, one on a complete draft. The tutor reads what the student wrote and says where it falls short against the criteria. The tutor does not write or complete any part of it.

  • Question narrowed until the available apparatus can answer it
  • Uncertainty and error sources planned before data collection
  • Evaluation discussed explicitly, since it is the thinnest section in most reports
  • No drafting, editing to completion or supplied material

IB and IGCSE tutors available to students in Dubai Festival City

The tutors below teach IB chemistry at Higher and Standard Level and are matched to the level rather than to the subject. Higher Level adds content across both organising themes and raises the extended-response demand, so the right tutor for a Standard Level student eight weeks from the papers may not be the right one for a Higher Level student in DP1.

01

Cost to fix, topic by topic

Here is the table that should exist on every chemistry tutoring page and appears on none of them. Each row gives a part of the course, how often it costs marks, the shape of the repair and a realistic effort estimate. Priced against the market bands, a four-session block at the qualified band of AED 150 to 300 an hour is a very different purchase from two terms at the specialist band, and knowing which you need is the difference between a sensible bill and a large one.

The pattern in the table is consistent. Procedural topics are cheap because the procedures are finite: once a student can balance a half-equation in basic conditions they can do it for every series thereafter. Reasoning topics are expensive because the student is building a habit of thought, and habits take repetition over months rather than concentrated effort over a fortnight. Organic chemistry at Higher Level sits firmly in the second category.

There is a third category that is almost free and almost always overlooked. The data booklet, command terms, and the conventions of how an answer is laid out are all cheap, and each of them silently costs marks across every component. A student who loses marks for these reasons looks exactly like a student with a knowledge gap, which is why a diagnosis has to sort lost marks by cause rather than by topic.

None of the AED figures used here is an IB Gram rate. Our own terms follow a free trial lesson and a diagnostic conversation, because a single hourly number across Standard Level bonding and Higher Level organic mechanisms would mislead in both directions. What the table is for is pricing a plan before you speak to anybody, and checking whether a quote you already hold is proportionate to the problem it is meant to solve.

Structure and Reactivity: how the syllabus is organised

Diploma chemistry is built around two organising themes. Structure covers models of the particulate nature of matter, models of bonding and structure, and the classification of matter. Reactivity covers what drives reactions, how much and how fast and how far they proceed, and electron-transfer reactions. Higher Level extends content within both themes rather than adding a separate list. Your child's teacher holds the subject guide, which is the authority, and we do not reproduce board documents, so work from the school's copy.

The organisation matters for tuition because it determines what a weakness actually is. A student struggling with Reactivity is struggling with one of three distinguishable things: what makes a reaction go, how far it goes, or how fast. Those are energetics, equilibrium and kinetics, and they are separate repairs with separate costs. Describing a student as weak at Reactivity is useless; identifying which of the three is the point of a diagnosis.

Within Structure, the practical dividing line is between recall and explanation. Naming an intermolecular force is recall and most students can do it. Explaining how that force produces the boiling point in the question is explanation, and that is where the marks are. A tutor who covers bonding by revising the content will leave a student able to name everything and unable to answer the question, which is a common and expensive outcome.

For planning purposes the sequence matters too. Most schemes of work put organic chemistry and the Higher Level extensions late, so they land in DP2 alongside mocks, the investigation deadline and Extended Essay milestones. A family that understands the sequence in September can book the organic term before the slots fill, which in the after-school window on Gulf Standard Time is a genuine constraint rather than a sales line.

The data booklet: marks nobody claims

  • The booklet is provided; the skill is knowing what is in it and where
  • One session with a past paper beside the booklet is usually enough
  • Spectroscopic identification becomes far more tractable once the tables are familiar
  • Highest return per hour in the whole course, and almost nobody sells it

A data booklet is provided in the chemistry examination. It contains constants, equations, spectroscopic data and reference tables, and it is the single most under-used resource in the subject. Students spend examination minutes trying to recall things that are printed two pages away, and lose marks for approximations where an exact value was sitting in front of them. This is not a knowledge problem and it does not need a specialist to fix.

The reason it goes unaddressed is that it does not feel like chemistry. A session spent learning the structure of a reference document feels administrative, and both students and tutors prefer to spend the hour on content. But the mark consequence is real and it recurs in every component, which makes it the highest return per hour available anywhere in the course. One session, done properly, with the booklet open and a past paper beside it.

The method is simple enough to describe. Take a past paper. For every question, ask whether anything needed was in the booklet, then find it and note the page. After twenty questions a student has an internal map of the document and stops trying to remember what they can look up. Spectroscopic identification questions in particular become substantially more tractable, because the characteristic values are tabulated rather than memorised.

This is where a shared screen earns its place. The booklet and the student's own attempt can sit side by side, both people looking at the same page at the same magnification, with the tutor able to point at a specific row. Across a table, one person is reading a reference document upside down while the other turns pages. It is a small mechanical difference that changes how well the session works.

04

Why organic chemistry absorbs the most hours

  • Standard Level organic is learnable content; Higher Level organic is a way of seeing
  • Pattern recognition forms through exposure over a term and cannot be compressed
  • If one sustained booking is affordable, the organic term is usually where it belongs
  • Spectroscopic identification is formulaic once learned and should be diagnosed separately

Organic chemistry is the part of Diploma chemistry that reliably needs duration, and it is worth being honest about why rather than simply charging for it. At Standard Level the demand is largely functional groups, reaction types and synthetic routes, which is learnable content. At Higher Level the demand shifts: mechanisms with curly arrows, stereochemistry and spectroscopic identification require the student to see why a reaction proceeds as it does, which is a way of thinking and not a set of facts.

Ways of thinking form through exposure to enough examples that the pattern becomes visible, and that cannot be compressed. A student shown twenty mechanisms over a term will start predicting the twenty-first. The same student shown twenty mechanisms in one week will remember a few and recognise none. This is why a four-session organic block usually disappoints, and why families who buy one often conclude that tutoring does not work when the problem was the shape of the purchase.

The practical consequence for spending is that organic deserves the sustained booking and most other topics do not. If the budget allows one term of weekly tuition in Diploma chemistry, the term should usually be the organic term, placed where the school's scheme of work teaches it. That is a deliberate decision rather than a default, and it is better made in September than discovered in February when the slots in the after-school window are gone.

One further note for Higher Level students. Spectroscopic identification sits at the junction of organic chemistry and the data booklet, and it is a question type that rewards practice disproportionately because the reasoning is formulaic once learned. A student who is weak at mechanisms but strong at reading spectra can still claim those marks reliably, so the two should be diagnosed separately rather than written off together as organic weakness.

05

Where chemistry marks are lost, component by component

Diploma chemistry is assessed by two written papers plus the internally assessed scientific investigation, which carries 20 per cent of the final grade. Paper 1 contains a multiple-choice section and a data-based section. Paper 2 contains short-answer and extended-response questions. For exact weightings and durations at your child's level, use the school's copy of the subject guide rather than any website, this one included.

The multiple-choice section loses marks to careless reading rather than to ignorance, and the useful drill is a timed set followed by analysis of every wrong answer: what was the distractor designed to catch? Most students find the same two or three traps repeating, which is a fixable pattern. The data-based section rewards graph reading, unit handling and uncertainty treatment, which are the same procedural skills that the investigation needs.

Paper 2 is where the subject's real discriminator sits. Extended-response questions want a chain of chemical reasoning in which each step follows from the last and names the species or the interaction involved. What arrives instead is a description that restates the question. Teaching the difference requires marked practice with the mark scheme visible, repeatedly, until the student can see which of their own sentences earned nothing.

Command terms deserve separate mention because they are cheap to fix and expensive to ignore. State, outline, describe, explain, deduce and justify all ask for different amounts, and a student who writes an explanation where a state was asked loses time, while one who states where an explanation was asked loses marks. A single session on command terms with a past paper improves performance across both papers and the investigation at once.

06

The investigation deadline sets the chemistry calendar

Twenty per cent of the chemistry grade sits in the scientific investigation, and the deadline that governs it belongs to the school rather than to the board. Because every Diploma science sets one and the Extended Essay milestones sit nearby, those dates cluster. A family that asks for all of them in September turns a predictable February congestion into a plan; a family that does not discovers three deadlines in one fortnight and cannot buy its way out.

Counting backwards from the date gives the schedule. A complete draft two to three weeks before submission, so feedback can be acted on. Data collection finished before that, with enough margin to repeat a failed run. Method, apparatus and uncertainty plan settled before any data is collected. And the research question narrowed earliest of all, because a question too broad for the available equipment produces data that cannot support a conclusion whatever else is done well.

For chemistry specifically, two planning errors recur. Choosing a reaction whose rate or yield cannot be measured reliably with school apparatus, and failing to think about uncertainty until the numbers are already recorded. Both are conversations rather than lessons, both belong at the front of the process, and both are substantially cheaper to prevent than to patch. This is where two or three well-timed hours outperform a term of content teaching.

The boundary is absolute and it matters more here than anywhere else in the course. A tutor may discuss the research question, explain each criterion, model a comparable investigation on a different topic, read a draft your child has written and say where it falls short, and teach citation. A tutor may not write, draft, complete, rewrite or supply any part of it. One site competing for these queries sells completed internal assessments at AED 3,750; that is a malpractice finding with a price attached.

Higher Level chemistry and what it commits you to

Higher Level chemistry adds content within both themes and raises the extended-response demand, and the two additions that most affect a tutoring budget are organic mechanisms and the thermodynamics extension. Those are the parts that need duration rather than intensity, which means a Higher Level choice is implicitly a choice about how many months of support may be required across DP1 and DP2.

Whether that commitment is necessary depends on destination. Medicine, dentistry, pharmacy, chemical engineering and most life science programmes commonly require Higher Level chemistry or a Higher Level science, and some specify grades within it. Many other degrees do not require chemistry at all. Requirements are set by individual institutions and courses and change between admissions cycles, so the reliable method is to read the admissions page for the specific course in the specific year.

For UAE routes, Ministry of Education equivalency is separate from a university's own entry requirements. The sourced British-track requirement is five accredited GCSE or IGCSE subjects at a grade no lower than E or grade 3, excluding Arabic and Islamic education, plus one Advanced Level subject at no less than grade E or two Advanced Subsidiary subjects at the same grade. For the IB Diploma we publish no points figure, because none has been read on an official Ministry source.

The honest advice runs against our own interest. A student who does not need Higher Level chemistry and has chosen it for how it looks on a transcript will consume months of tutoring hours on organic mechanisms that no application required. A confident Standard Level result in the right subject combination is often a better outcome and a far smaller bill. Ask the question before DP1 locks, because afterwards every answer costs more.

Starting from Dubai Festival City, and what we will not do

  • Send the level, the current topic, the investigation deadline and two marked papers
  • Lost marks sorted into five causes before any booking is made
  • No home visits in the UAE, no UAE office, no board or regulator approval claimed
  • No predicted grades, and no board documents supplied as downloads

Send the level, the topic currently being taught, the school's internal investigation deadline, and the last two marked papers. The marked papers are the valuable item because every lost mark can be sorted by cause before any money is committed: data booklet, command term, procedure, reasoning, or a genuine content gap. Those five categories determine whether you need one session, four, or two terms, and most students show one dominant category rather than a general weakness.

We match a tutor to the level and run a free trial lesson as live one-to-one video on Gulf Standard Time, at no cost. Afterwards you receive a written note setting out the sorted causes and a recommended shape with a duration attached. For many students that is a data-booklet session plus a four-session mole block. For a Higher Level student entering the organic term, it is a sustained booking and we will say so plainly rather than selling a block that will not work.

The limits. IB Gram does not run home visits in the UAE; home visits are a service we offer only in India. There is no UAE office, centre or branch and we claim none. We hold no IB, regulator or board approval. We publish no IB examination or results dates, because the IB's own site blocks automated checking and an unverified date a parent acts on is worse than silence. We do not supply subject guides, past papers, mark schemes or data booklets as downloads; we reference them and link to the official source.

And no outcome promises. There is no predicted grade on this page and there will not be one in a first conversation. What the first month should produce is a child who knows which cause is costing them marks, a written note naming it, and one visible habit change, usually in working layout or in reaching for the booklet. Grade movement takes longer than a month and nobody can honestly guarantee it.

Where we tutor

What a chemistry tutoring budget buys by community

Rate bands are emirate-wide. What differs between these communities is how much of a paid in-home hour survives travel, and how deep the local pool of Diploma chemistry teachers actually runs.

Al Badia

Closest to Deira International School and the only community in the cluster where an in-home visit loses little time. Even so, Higher Level chemistry is the hardest Diploma match in the emirate on current supply, so proximity rarely improves the choice of tutor here.

Festival Boulevard and Marsa Al Khaimah

Apartments beside the mall, with turnover that affects tutor continuity. Chemistry is cumulative across two years, so a February handover costs a student more than a marginally weaker tutor appointed in September would have.

Nad Al Hamar

Long school runs push a visiting tutor into the evening window. For organic mechanisms, which need an alert student able to follow several steps, that is the weaker of the two daily slots and the premium is paid for the worse hour.

Mirdif

The deepest tutoring market in eastern Dubai, with an IB continuum school of its own. Standard Level chemistry can often be found locally at a competitive rate. Higher Level organic and thermodynamics is where even Mirdif families look beyond the neighbourhood.

Al Mizhar and Al Khawaneej

Low density and long bus routes, so the in-home travel component is largest here. Families in these communities tend to reach the online conclusion earlier, and for chemistry they are usually right to.

Al Warqa and Al Rashidiya

Established housing with many chemistry tutors from other curricula. Strong teachers, but a tutor who has not taught the current Diploma themes will not know what the data booklet contains or how the investigation is marked, which is most of what the money is for.

Dubai Silicon Oasis

Large British-curriculum provision nearby and plenty of IGCSE chemistry supply. Diploma Higher Level supply is thin, which is the emirate-wide pattern rather than anything specific to this community.

Dubai International Academic City

University campuses nearby, which keeps the AED 33 to 65 band supplied. Undergraduate chemists can drill mole calculations and balance half-equations effectively, and are not the right people for investigation criteria or organic reasoning.

How matching works

From first enquiry to a tutor who fits

  1. 01

    Send two marked chemistry papers

Every lost mark gets sorted into one of five causes: data booklet, command term, procedure, reasoning, or genuine content gap. Most students show one dominant cause rather than a spread, and that single finding decides whether the plan is one session, four, or two terms. It costs nothing and happens first.

  2. 02

Spend one session on the data booklet

Take a past paper and, question by question, ask whether anything needed was printed in the booklet, then find it and note the page. After twenty questions the student has a mental map of the document and stops trying to recall what they can look up. Highest return per hour in the course.

Buy procedural blocks for procedural problems

Mole calculations, half-equations, Hess cycles and titration curves are finite sets of procedures, and four sessions with marked practice usually produces fluency. Measure it on a past-paper section before and after, so the purchase is testable rather than a matter of impression.

  4. 04

    Place the organic term deliberately

Higher Level organic chemistry needs duration because pattern recognition forms over months. Find out when the school's scheme of work teaches it and book the sustained slot before the after-school window fills, which it does across the whole emirate by about October.

  5. 05

    Schedule investigation support backwards

Ask the school for the internal deadline, then work back: complete draft two to three weeks before, data collection finished before that, method and uncertainty settled before any data, and the research question narrowed earliest of all. Two or three hours placed here beat a term placed badly.

Why families choose us

What UAE parents tell us matters most

Repair cost published by topic

The data booklet is a one-session fix, mole calculations are four sessions, Higher Level organic chemistry is a term. Pricing those identically is how a chemistry budget goes wrong, and no competing page in this market publishes a cost-to-fix table at all.

Lost marks sorted by cause, not by topic

Data booklet, command term, procedure, reasoning, or content gap. A student losing marks for the first two looks exactly like one with a knowledge gap, so the diagnosis sorts by cause and the plan follows from it rather than from anybody's intuition.

Honest about where duration is unavoidable

Higher Level organic chemistry cannot be compressed into a four-session block, and selling one would be easier than saying so. Pattern recognition forms through exposure over a term, which is why that is the booking we recommend and the only one we recommend at length.

Investigation support with a written boundary

Question narrowing, criteria explanation, a comparable model on a different topic, and feedback on your child's own draft. No drafting, no completing, no supplied material. One site in this market sells finished internal assessments; that risk lands entirely on the student.

Rates with their sources attached

Every AED band here belongs to a named provider and was read in October 2026. Three of six researched competitors publish no price at all and two quote US dollars to families who transact in dirhams, so a sourced table is the cheapest honest advantage in this market.

A shared screen suits this subject

The data booklet and the student's own working sit side by side at the same magnification, mechanisms can be annotated arrow by arrow, and a mark scheme can be opened beside an attempt. Across a table, somebody is reading a reference document upside down.

Questions parents ask

IB and IGCSE tutoring in Dubai Festival City: your questions answered

Which IB chemistry topics are cheapest to fix for a Dubai Festival City student?+

Using the data booklet, which is roughly a one-session job and claims marks in every component. Then balancing half-equations and Hess cycles, at about two sessions each. Then mole and concentration calculations at around four sessions, because the procedures are finite. Command terms are a single session and improve both papers and the investigation at once. All of these sit comfortably at the qualified band of roughly AED 150 to 300 an hour rather than needing a specialist.

Why does organic chemistry cost more tutoring hours than other chemistry topics?+

Because at Higher Level it is a way of seeing rather than a list of facts. Mechanisms, stereochemistry and spectroscopic identification require the student to understand why a reaction proceeds as it does, and that pattern recognition forms through exposure to enough examples over a term. Twenty mechanisms spread across three months produce prediction; twenty in one week produce recognition of a few. This is why four-session organic blocks usually disappoint and why the sustained booking belongs here.

How much does an IB chemistry tutor cost around Dubai Festival City?+

Market figures rather than ours, all read in October 2026: Unitors advertises IB tuition from AED 200 an hour, Bestimate's table puts IB specialists at AED 200 to 450 and above, TutorChase publishes AED 270, budget online runs AED 33 to 52 at Tutopiya and AED 45 to 65 at EdFlik, and in-home one-to-one is AED 180 to 500 with travel inside the figure. Our own terms follow the free trial lesson and a diagnosis, because repair costs vary so widely by topic.

Is the data booklet really provided in the IB chemistry exam?+

Yes, and it is the most under-used resource in the subject. It carries constants, equations, spectroscopic data and reference tables, and students routinely spend examination minutes trying to recall things printed two pages away. The fix is one session: take a past paper, ask question by question whether anything needed was in the booklet, find it, and note the page. After twenty questions the student stops trying to remember what they can look up.

How much of the IB chemistry grade sits in the scientific investigation?+

Twenty per cent, and the deadline governing it is set by the school rather than by the board. Every Diploma science sets one and the Extended Essay milestones sit nearby, so the dates cluster and three deadlines in one fortnight is routine. Ask the school for all of them in September. Counting backwards, a complete draft should exist two to three weeks before submission so that feedback can actually be acted on rather than merely received.

Can a chemistry tutor help my child finish their internal assessment?+

With the thinking, yes; with the writing, never. A tutor may narrow the research question until school apparatus can answer it, explain each criterion, discuss systematic and random error, model a comparable investigation on a different topic, and read a draft your child has written and say where it falls short. A tutor may not write, draft, complete or supply any part of it. One site competing for these queries sells finished internal assessments at AED 3,750, which is a malpractice finding with a price.

Does a tutor visit homes in Al Badia or Nad Al Hamar for chemistry lessons?+

No. IB Gram does not run home visits anywhere in the UAE; that service exists only in India. For chemistry the online format is genuinely better: the data booklet and the student's own working sit side by side on a shared screen at the same magnification, a mechanism can be annotated arrow by arrow, and a mark scheme can be opened beside an attempt so the student sees which of their sentences earned nothing. Across a table that is much harder.

My child understands chemistry but still loses marks. What is going on?+

Usually command terms and working layout. State, outline, describe, explain, deduce and justify ask for different amounts, and answering the wrong amount either wastes time or loses marks. Separately, a calculation written in two compressed lines cannot be awarded method marks because the method is not visible. Both are habits, both are fixed in about one session each, and both silently affect every component. They look exactly like a knowledge gap on a report.

Is Higher Level chemistry necessary for medicine from a Dubai school?+

Many medical, dental, pharmacy and life science programmes do require Higher Level chemistry or a Higher Level science, and some specify grades within it, but requirements are set course by course and change between admissions cycles. Open the admissions page for the specific course and year, and involve the school's university counsellor early. Separately, Ministry of Education equivalency is a different matter from a university's own entry requirements and should be checked on moe.gov.ae.

When should a Dubai Festival City family book chemistry tuition for DP2?+

In September, if the organic term is the target. Most schemes of work teach organic chemistry and the Higher Level extensions late, so they land in DP2 beside mocks, the investigation deadline and Extended Essay milestones. The after-school window on Gulf Standard Time fills across the whole emirate by about October, so the sustained slot that organic needs is easier to secure early. Procedural blocks are easier to place and can be arranged with less notice.

How do we know whether to buy four sessions or two terms of chemistry?+

Sort two marked papers by cause rather than by topic. Data booklet, command term, procedure, reasoning, or a genuine content gap. If the lost marks cluster in the first three, you need sessions: one for the booklet, one for command terms, four for the procedures. If they cluster in reasoning, particularly in organic or equilibrium questions, you need a term. Most students show one dominant cause, and that is the finding worth having before spending anything.

Does weak maths cause weak IB chemistry grades?+

Frequently, and it is the commonest misdiagnosis here. Mole and concentration calculations, gas law work, pH and equilibrium constant calculations all depend on rearranging formulae, handling indices and standard form, and manipulating units. A student without fluency there appears weak across several chemistry topics, because the same gap resurfaces in each of them with different chemical labels. Fixing the mathematics first often lifts chemistry without anybody being paid to teach chemistry.

Can chemistry practical skills be taught without a laboratory?+

Most of the assessed practical reasoning can, because it is expressed in writing: choosing an appropriate method, distinguishing systematic from random error, explaining a repeat, and suggesting a specific rather than generic improvement. The laboratory belongs to the school, where the apparatus and technicians are, and a tutor should not pretend to replace it. What a tutor adds is the planning before the bench and the honest interpretation afterwards.

Is a grade 8 in IGCSE chemistry a good sign for the Diploma?+

It shows the content was learned, which is not the whole question. Diploma chemistry asks for extended written reasoning, uncertainty treatment and an independent investigation marked against criteria, and at Higher Level it asks for mechanistic thinking that IGCSE does not. Students arriving from a combined science entry rather than separate chemistry also meet considerably more content. The honest check is whether the student can write a four-step chemical explanation, not whether they can balance an equation.

What should the first month of chemistry tuition show in Dubai Festival City?+

Three things and no grade. Your child should be able to name which cause is costing them marks, stated as booklet, command term, procedure or reasoning. You should hold a written note saying the same thing. And one habit should visibly change, most often reaching for the data booklet rather than trying to recall, or writing working out in full so method marks can be awarded. Grade movement takes longer and nobody can honestly promise it.

Buy the expensive problem, skip the cheap ones

Chemistry rewards a parent who knows which repairs are cheap. The data booklet is one session. Half-equations and Hess cycles are two each. Mole calculations are four. Higher Level organic chemistry is a term, and no block will substitute for it. So send the level, the school's investigation deadline and two marked papers, and let the lost marks be sorted by cause before anything is bought. The free trial lesson costs nothing, the written note that follows carries a duration, and if that duration is four sessions, four sessions is what you should buy.
