IGCSE Science Tutor in City Walk

An IGCSE science tutor in City Walk is almost always hired against a date. Three sciences, six or more papers, a practical component decided by the school and a June or November series fixed by the board. This page is written as a calendar: what each term has to finish, which decisions close before you notice them, and what the final twelve weeks can realistically change across biology, chemistry and physics. Lessons are one-to-one over live video on Gulf Standard Time.

  • Plans built backwards from the June or November series
  • Cambridge and Pearson Edexcel science specifications taught separately
  • Practical and alternative-to-practical components treated as distinct work

IB & IGCSE in City Walk

Three sciences, one calendar, and the decisions that close quietly

Science is the part of an IGCSE timetable where the calendar does most of the damage. A triple-award candidate carries three separate subjects, each with its own theory papers and its own practical or alternative-to-practical component, and each competing with seven other subjects for the same evenings. A family in City Walk who starts looking for help in the spring of Year 11 is arriving after several decisions have already closed: the award route, the tier, the practical component and the entry itself.

So this page is organised by date rather than by syllabus. It sets out what each term of a two-year science course has to finish, when the award and tier decisions actually close and what can still be influenced afterwards, how the practical component is decided and by whom, what the final twelve weeks can realistically change across three sciences, and how a mock fortnight containing six science papers should be used. The content is here, inside the timeline, because a topic list without a deadline attached is what most tutoring pages in this market already provide.

Two dates anchor everything. A UAE candidate sits the June series or the November series: Cambridge International runs IGCSE and O Level examinations in a June series and a November series, with Primary and Lower Secondary Checkpoint tests in March, May and October, and Pearson Edexcel International GCSE examinations are available in May/June and November each year. And one warning that costs families real planning time: the Cambridge February/March series is offered to India only. A science revision plan built around a February or March exam window is built on the wrong country's calendar.

City Walk's own contribution is logistical. The district sits between Al Wasl and Jumeirah with no school inside it, so every candidate here travels out, most often to the Al Safa, Al Wasl and Jumeirah cluster, sometimes further to Al Quoz or Al Barsha. The return journey is short by Dubai standards, which means a City Walk family can often start a session at 4pm where much of the emirate cannot start before 5pm. In a final twelve-week run across three sciences, that half-hour head start is worth real sessions.

On delivery, plainly. IB Gram teaches UAE families one-to-one over live video. We do not send tutors to homes anywhere in the UAE and we operate no centre here; home visiting is a service we run only in India. Practical skills are assessed by the school or by a written paper set by the board, and a tutor does not substitute for the laboratory; what a tutor can do is teach the writing that the practical and alternative-to-practical components actually reward, which is work that happens perfectly well over video.

At a glance

  • A triple-award candidate sits six or more science papers in one series
  • A UAE candidate sits the June or November series; February-March is India only
  • The award route and tier decisions close in Year 9 or Year 10, not Year 11
  • The practical component is decided by the school, not by the family
  • City Walk has no school inside it, but the short run makes 4pm sessions usable
  • Lessons are one-to-one over live video; home visits are an India-only service
IB programmes

Every IB programme stage, mapped to UAE school years

A science course has four decision points and families usually engage with the last one. These are the stages in play for a City Walk family, described by what closes at each.

Y9Ages 13-14 · Year 9

Year 9, when the award route is chosen

The year the school decides, often in consultation with families and often not, whether a student takes three separate sciences, a double award or a combined course. That decision shapes two years of content volume and influences which sixth-form science routes stay open. Cambridge Lower Secondary Checkpoint results are the most useful external evidence a family has in that conversation, and they arrive before it rather than after.

In Dubai the award route is usually settled alongside the wider option choices in Year 9, and the practical consequence for a City Walk family is that the window to influence it is a term long. Once the school has built the timetable around a cohort's choices, individual changes become difficult rather than impossible.

Y10Ages 14-15 · Year 10

Year 10, when the tier closes

Content is met for the first time across all three sciences, and the Core or Extended tier entry decision is formed on the basis of internal assessment. This is the cheapest and most effective year to buy science support, because gaps have not yet compounded and because the tier can still be changed. It is also the year almost nobody buys it.

In Dubai the tier entry decision is usually made during Year 10 or very early Year 11, within the board's deadlines. A City Walk family that raises a tier concern in the autumn of Year 10 is having a productive conversation; one that raises it in the spring of Year 11 is having a different and much shorter one.

Y11Ages 15-16 · Year 11

Year 11, when only marks are left

Content teaching completes, the mock window delivers data, and the work becomes converting knowledge into marks across six or more papers. The useful interventions here are command-term discipline, the six-mark extended-response structure, practical write-up technique and timing. Genuine content repair is possible in the autumn term and expensive by the spring.

A City Walk Year 11 arriving home around 4pm has roughly three usable evening hours contested by eight subjects. Three sciences cannot all be tutored in that week. Choosing one, from marked papers rather than from anxiety, is the decision the calendar forces and the one most families resist.

RESITAfter results, any series

The resit window

A science grade can be improved by entering the next available series, and for a UAE candidate that means November after a June result or June after a November one. Whether a previously achieved practical or coursework mark can be carried forward depends on the specification and on the centre's arrangements, so confirm that with the school's examinations officer before planning anything.

Looking at a published pattern: Pearson's November 2026 final International GCSE timetable ran to 19 November 2026, and November 2025 results reached students on 22 January 2026. A November entry therefore produces a grade in the following January, which is in time for many sixth-form confirmations and not all of them.

Subject coverage

IB and IGCSE subjects we tutor

The science subjects and components a City Walk family will be choosing between, with the calendar point at which each one matters most. Confirm every code and weighting against the current syllabus document the school holds.

Biology (Cambridge 0610 / Edexcel 4BI1)

Core and Extended

The largest content volume of the three sciences, which makes it the worst candidate for a late content rescue and a good candidate for early weekly support. Extended-tier marks are won on command terms: explain, suggest and compare each want a different answer shape, and correct biology written in the wrong shape scores nothing.

Chemistry (Cambridge 0620 / Edexcel 4CH1)

Core and Extended

Mole calculations, electrolysis and organic chemistry concentrate the lost Extended marks. Organic is cumulative, so it is cheap to secure in Year 10 and expensive to repair in the spring of Year 11. Calculation marks, by contrast, respond to a few weeks of repetition at almost any point in the calendar.

Physics (Cambridge 0625 / Edexcel 4PH1)

Core and Extended

Electricity and electromagnetism are where Extended separates from Core and where most City Walk students lose their grade. These need sustained weeks rather than a late block. Equation selection and unit discipline, however, are technique and move quickly whenever they are addressed.

Co-ordinated Sciences (Cambridge 0654)

Double award

One course covering all three sciences and awarded as two grades. Reduced content against the three separate sciences, with a correspondingly reduced claim on the week. The route decision between this and triple science is made in Year 9 and shapes which sixth-form science options remain comfortable.

Combined Science (Cambridge 0653)

Single award

All three sciences in one course awarded as a single grade. Suited to a student whose strengths lie elsewhere and who needs a science pass rather than a science route. Worth confirming the sixth-form implications in writing before accepting it, because some courses expect more.

Science Double Award (Pearson 4SD0)

Double award

Pearson's equivalent of the co-ordinated route, awarded as two grades. The practical difference from Cambridge is in paper structure and phrasing rather than in content coverage, which matters for which past papers are worth working in the final term.

Theory papers

All science specifications

Carry the majority of the marks and are where the calendar pressure concentrates, because six theory papers in one series means six sets of past-paper practice. Multiple-choice and structured-response papers reward different preparation, and students who practise only the structured papers lose marks to careless multiple choice.

Practical test and alternative to practical

Varies by specification and centre

Some specifications set a practical examination, others an alternative-to-practical written paper. Which applies is a centre and specification matter, decided by the school rather than the family. Either way the marks come from precise description of method, variables, control and sources of error, which is a writing skill.

Six-mark extended response

Extended tier, all three sciences

The highest-value recoverable item in science. Students who understand the content still score four out of six because the answer lacks structure or omits a required linkage. Teaching the structure is three sessions per subject and shows in the next marked paper, which makes it the right work for a short block.

Mathematical skills in science

All three sciences

Rearranging equations, standard form, significant figures, gradients from graphs and percentage calculations. Weak mathematics shows up as weak physics and weak chemistry, and the repair belongs in the maths plan rather than the science plan. Diagnosing it early saves a term of misdirected science teaching.

Command terms

All science specifications

State, describe, explain, suggest, compare, evaluate. Each requires a specific shape of answer and each is worth marks. A student writing a description where an explanation was asked for loses every mark for otherwise correct science, which makes this the cheapest repair available in the subject at any point in the year.

Formula and equation recall

Varies by specification and tier

Which equations are printed on the paper and which must be recalled differs by specification and tier, and students routinely memorise the provided list while neglecting the required one. Confirm against the specification document the school holds, since boards revise it and a wrong list costs marks.

How sessions run

Tutoring formats built around UAE school timetables

Three science support patterns, chosen by where a City Walk student stands in the calendar rather than by preference. All UAE tuition is one-to-one over live video on Gulf Standard Time.

Weekly support on one science, from Year 10

One session a week alongside the school's scheme of work, on the science where the gap is widest. Taken in Year 10 this is the cheapest effective science support available, because content is being met for the first time, gaps do not compound, and the Core or Extended tier decision is still open. It is also the pattern almost nobody buys at the point it works best.

  • Follows the school's scheme of work week by week
  • Keeps the tier decision open while it can still change
  • One science at a time, chosen from marked work
  • Free trial lesson before any commitment

A twelve-week final run across the sciences

The last three months before a series, with the sessions distributed by marks lost rather than evenly. Typically that means eight sessions on the weakest science, three on the second and one diagnostic on the third, plus whole papers on weekend mornings. Distribution by evidence rather than by fairness is what makes a final run work.

  • Sessions distributed by marks lost, not evenly across three sciences
  • Whole papers worked to time on weekend mornings
  • Command terms and six-mark structure first, content second
  • A defined endpoint at the series

A practical and alternative-to-practical block

Three or four sessions per science on the component families most often ignore. The marks come from precise description of method, independent and dependent variables, control variables, repeats, anomalies and sources of error. This is a writing discipline rather than a laboratory one, it is identical across all three sciences, and it moves quickly.

  • Method, variables, control, repeats and error, written to the scheme
  • Transfers across biology, chemistry and physics
  • Three or four sessions per science, with a clear endpoint
  • Worked from the school's own practical write-ups

What we do not offer in the UAE

IB Gram does not send tutors to homes anywhere in the United Arab Emirates. There is no visit to a City Walk home, no tutor at the door, and no centre to drive to; home visiting is a service we run only in India. We do not run a laboratory, do not substitute for school practical work, do not distribute board specifications, past papers or mark schemes, and do not write or complete assessed work.

  • No in-home visits anywhere in the UAE
  • No UAE office, branch, centre or laboratory
  • No board documents or past papers distributed by us
  • No grade guarantees and no invented statistics

What IB and IGCSE study actually looks like in City Walk

01

The two-year science course, term by term

Laid out as a sequence, a science course has a predictable shape and a predictable set of closing doors. Year 9 settles the award route. Year 10 teaches the content and forms the tier decision. The autumn of Year 11 completes the content and delivers the mock data. The spring of Year 11 converts knowledge into marks across six or more papers. After results, the resit question.

The mistake families make is not failing to work hard. It is engaging with the sequence at the final stage, where the available interventions are narrowest and the cost per unit of effect is highest. A City Walk parent who reads this in Year 10 has access to decisions that a parent reading it in March of Year 11 does not, and the difference is not marginal: it includes the award route, the tier, and whether three sciences was the right load in the first place.

The practical use of the table below is as a checklist of questions to ask the school at each stage, in writing. Most of these questions have short factual answers that schools provide readily when asked clearly, and most families never ask them. Which award route is my child on. Which tier are they entered for in each science. Which practical component does the centre use. Which specification codes. When is the mock window. These are the inputs to any sensible plan and they are all free.

One honest caveat about the final stage. In the spring of Year 11, with three sciences and six papers, the realistic question is not how to raise all three grades but which one grade matters most and whether the marks are recoverable. That is a narrower and more useful question, and a provider who answers it with a three-science package has not answered it.

02

The award route decision, and the door it closes

Triple science, double award and combined science are three different loads and three different outcomes, and the choice between them is usually made in Year 9. Triple science means biology, chemistry and physics as separate subjects with separate grades and the fullest content coverage. A double award such as Cambridge Co-ordinated Sciences 0654 or Pearson Science Double Award 4SD0 covers all three with reduced content and produces two grades. Combined science produces one.

The consequence that matters is what each keeps open at sixteen. A sixth-form science course, particularly an A Level or an IB Higher Level science, generally expects strong attainment in the relevant separate science or in a double award, and a combined award can constrain the choice. Expectations vary by school, so this is a question to ask the receiving sixth form in writing rather than to assume from a general rule.

The consequence that matters for the calendar is load. Triple science is three subjects' worth of content and six or more papers inside a nine or ten subject timetable. For a student who is comfortable across the sciences that is manageable. For a student who is already struggling in two of the three, it is a decision that guarantees a difficult Year 11, and the honest conversation in Year 9 is sometimes about taking the double award and doing it well rather than the triple and doing it partially.

If the decision has already been made and the year is underway, the useful move is not to reopen it but to plan around it. A triple-science student in Year 11 with three weak sciences needs session distribution by marks lost rather than by fairness, and needs to accept that one of the three will receive almost no support. That is an uncomfortable plan and it beats spreading a week's capacity so thinly that nothing moves.

03

The practical component: decided by the school, written by the student

  • Which practical component applies is a specification and centre matter, not a family choice
  • Both routes mark method, variables, control, repeats and specific error sources
  • Generic error statements score nothing; specific ones score marks
  • Build the writing discipline early; it does not need to compete with theory revision

Families consistently underestimate this component and consistently misunderstand who controls it. Depending on the specification and the centre's arrangements, a science candidate may sit a practical examination or a written alternative-to-practical paper. Which one applies is determined by the specification and by the centre, not by the family, and it is worth establishing early because the preparation differs.

What does not differ is where the marks come from. Both routes reward precise description of method, clear identification of independent, dependent and control variables, awareness of repeats and anomalies, and specific rather than generic sources of error. A student who writes that a source of error is human error has written nothing; a student who writes that the thermometer was read at an angle, introducing a parallax error, has written something marked. That difference is teachable in three or four sessions and it transfers across all three sciences.

This is also where the honest limit of online science tuition sits, and it is worth stating directly rather than glossing. We do not run a laboratory and we do not substitute for the practical work your child's school provides. The laboratory skill is built at school. What a tutor can do, and do well over video, is teach the writing that both components actually mark, using the student's own practical write-ups from school as the material.

The calendar point is that practical preparation is frequently left until the last fortnight, when it is competing with six theory papers. It does not need to be. The writing discipline is independent of the content and can be built in Year 10 or in the autumn of Year 11, when the week has room. A family that moves practical preparation earlier buys itself a quieter final month at no extra cost, which is the cheapest scheduling improvement available in science.

04

The mock fortnight: six science papers as free diagnostic data

  • Ask for marked papers, not three grades
  • Sort losses into unattempted, content, command term and six-mark response
  • The three sciences usually show different failure patterns at the same grade
  • Losses concentrated late in each paper mean pacing, not knowledge

A triple-science candidate in Dubai sits a substantial number of papers in a mock window, often including two per science. Most families receive three grades out of this and discard the rest. The marked papers are the most valuable free data the whole year produces, and they are the only honest basis for deciding how a final twelve weeks should be distributed.

Ask for the marked papers rather than the grades, then sort each one's lost marks into four piles. Questions not attempted. Questions attempted and wrong on content. Questions where the science was right and the command term was answered in the wrong shape. And the six-mark extended responses, scored separately. Those four categories need completely different work, and the proportions differ noticeably between the three sciences for most students.

The pattern that recurs in this corridor is instructive. A student will often show a content gap in physics, a command-term problem in biology and a calculation problem in chemistry, all producing the same grade. A three-science package treats them identically and wastes most of its hours. A plan built from the marked papers puts eight sessions into the physics content, three into biology answer shapes and one diagnostic session into chemistry calculation technique, and produces movement in all three.

One further check costs two minutes. Look at whether the lost marks concentrate in the second half of each paper. If they do, the problem is pacing rather than knowledge, and the intervention is question-order strategy rather than any topic at all. Across three sciences and six papers that single observation redirects a surprising number of final-term plans, and it requires no tutor to make.

05

What twelve weeks can change across three sciences

With twelve weeks and three sciences, a City Walk family has perhaps twelve to sixteen sessions of realistic capacity inside a Year 11 week. Distributing those evenly is the instinct and the mistake. Distributing them by recoverable marks is what works, and it produces an uneven plan that looks unfair and performs well.

What moves inside twelve weeks is technique. Command-term discipline across all three sciences, which is the same skill taught three times. The six-mark extended-response structure, where students who know the content routinely score four. Practical write-up language. Equation selection and unit discipline in physics. Mole and titration calculation repetition in chemistry. Each of those is two to four sessions and each is worth marks on every paper.

What does not move inside twelve weeks is a missing year. If a student cannot do electricity in physics at all, or has never understood organic chemistry, twelve weeks across three subjects will not repair it while also preparing six papers. The honest plan then is to secure the topics that are secure, maximise the technique marks, and be realistic about the grade. That is a worse answer than families want and a better plan than the alternative.

The distribution that usually works looks like this: identify the science with the most recoverable marks from the mock papers, give it the majority of the sessions, give the second science a short technique block, and give the third a single diagnostic session with a homework plan rather than ongoing support. Then put the whole papers on weekend mornings, because a full science paper cannot be worked to time on a weeknight after a City Walk commute and eight other subjects' homework.

06

Counting a series backwards, with the zone problem

A UAE science candidate sits the June series or the November series. Cambridge International runs IGCSE and O Level examinations in a June series and a November series; Pearson Edexcel International GCSE examinations are available in May/June and November each year. The February/March series is offered to India only, and any plan quoting a February or March exam window to a Dubai family is working from the wrong country's calendar.

Cambridge adds an administrative item that genuinely matters. Every examination centre is allocated to one of six administrative zones, and Cambridge states that it is essential to use the correct version of the timetable for your zone, and that it cannot accept responsibility for candidates who miss an examination after using the wrong zone timetable. With six science papers in one series, a wrong-zone timetable is not a minor inconvenience. Build the revision calendar from the timetable your own examinations officer confirms.

Dates in the past are safe to state because they are checkable, and they illustrate the shape of a series better than a projection can. Pearson's November 2026 final International GCSE timetable ran from late October to 19 November 2026. June 2026 results reached centres on 19 August 2026 and students on 20 August 2026. November 2025 results reached students on 22 January 2026. Pearson also publishes provisional timetables ahead of each series, which is why a plan should link the live official timetable rather than restate dates that can be revised.

For a City Walk family planning a final run, the practical consequence of six papers in one window is sequencing. The sciences will not be examined on consecutive days in most zones, and knowing the actual order lets a student front-load revision for the earliest paper rather than revising all three in parallel to the end. That is a free improvement and it depends entirely on having the correct timetable in hand early.

Ramadan, breaks and the weeks a science plan loses

  • A twelve-week plan is usually nine usable weeks; count the gaps first
  • Agree the Ramadan pattern before the month, not during it
  • Breaks are for marked timed papers, not for new content
  • After travel, start with retrieval work rather than new topics

A twelve-week plan drawn on paper is usually a nine-week plan in reality, and in science that gap is more damaging than in most subjects because the content volume is higher. Ramadan shortens school days and reorganises evenings around iftar. Winter and spring breaks remove whole weeks. School events, trips and internal assessment weeks take more. Count them before drawing the plan rather than discovering them inside it.

Ramadan needs a decision made in advance. For a Year 11 whose series falls after the month, three or four weeks of lost continuity at that point in the calendar is the single largest avoidable loss available. Early-afternoon sessions and post-iftar sessions both work; what fails is improvisation. Agree the alternative pattern before the month begins and the continuity survives.

Breaks are the opposite case and are routinely misused. A break is the only period a science candidate has whole uninterrupted days, which makes it the correct window for full papers under timed conditions and the wrong window for new content. For a triple-science candidate, two or three marked papers across a one-week break produce the diagnostic data that shapes the rest of the term, at less cost than six rushed weeknight sessions.

Travel is the last item and it is underestimated in this corridor. A student spending four weeks abroad in the summer before Year 11 returns having lost calculation fluency and equation recall rather than conceptual understanding, so the first September sessions should be retrieval work rather than new topics. Online delivery means sessions can continue through travel where a family wants them to, which is a genuine scheduling advantage rather than a selling point.

08

What three sciences cost, against what one costs

The cost question in science is not the hourly rate but the number of subjects being funded, because three sciences at one session a week each is three times the commitment of one. Setting that out plainly usually changes the decision, and in the right direction.

Here are the published Dubai bands to apply that to, each attributed to the provider or publication that stated it and read in October 2026. Take the in-home figures first, since City Walk families mostly buy visits: Bestimate's Tutoring Cost Dubai 2026 table puts in-home one-to-one at AED 180 to 350, and independent home tutors reach AED 200 to 500 once travel is priced in, charged per visit, so a physics tutor and a chemistry tutor arriving on separate evenings pay that premium twice. Online removes the travel and reshapes the choice. Tutopiya advertises from AED 33 to 52 an hour and EdFlik from AED 45 to 65 at the budget end, Unitors publishes IGCSE tuition from AED 150, TutorChase quotes AED 270, Bestimate puts IB, IGCSE and A-Level specialist work at AED 200 to 450 or more, and BartyED sits at AED 650 at the premium end. Monthly packages compress the same money differently again, at AED 799 for eight online sessions or AED 1,599 to 1,799 for four two-hour in-home sessions.

Apply those to three sciences over a twelve-week run. At the qualified-tutor online band of AED 150 to 300 an hour, one science at one session a week for twelve weeks is roughly AED 1,800 to 3,600. Three sciences on the same pattern is AED 5,400 to 10,800. The uncomfortable finding is that the three-science version frequently delivers less than the one-science version, because thirty-six sessions in a Year 11 week is not a load a student can attend, and sessions not attended are sessions paid for.

IB Gram does not publish a UAE rate card on these pages and does not present any of these figures as ours. The free trial lesson exists so a family can see the teaching before discussing money, and the consultation exists so the number of subjects is chosen from marked papers rather than from worry. For wider budget context, KHDA confirmed on 22 May 2026 that there would be no increase in private school fees in Dubai for the 2026-27 academic year, under Dubai's second economic incentives package valued at AED 1.5 billion.

Honesty, regulation and getting started with a date in view

  • No practical report, coursework or assessed writing produced by a tutor
  • The MoHRE private tuition work permit is free and valid for two years
  • Five IGCSE subjects at grade E or 3; Arabic and Islamic education excluded
  • Bring specification codes, award route, marked mock papers and the series date

A science tutor teaches content, explains assessment criteria, models technique on a different example and gives feedback on the student's own work. A tutor does not write a practical report, complete coursework or edit a piece to completion. That boundary protects your child, because a malpractice finding falls on the student. We will not do it and will not accept such work if a family offers it. We also do not distribute board syllabus documents, past papers, mark schemes or grade-boundary tables; your child's school has legitimate access to all of them.

Regulation is the other thing to settle before a date goes in the calendar, and in science it is three checks rather than one, because three subjects often means three different people coming into a City Walk apartment. Each of them needs the same document: the MoHRE private tutor work permit, introduced by Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023 and granted free of charge for two years. The eligible categories are broad enough that almost any genuine science tutor falls inside one, covering teachers registered in government or private schools, government and private-sector employees, unemployed residents, university students and school students aged 15 to 18. MoHRE's service page lists no fee and a two-working-day completion time, which is the whole cost of compliance. Individuals tutoring without a permit are subject to fines and penalties under the applicable laws; no fine schedule is published, so no amount appears here, and none should appear in a tutor's pitch either.

On equivalency, since science subjects are part of the count: the sourced British-track rule is five accredited subjects in GCSE or IGCSE certificates at a grade of no less than E or grade 3, plus one accredited subject at Advanced Level at grade E or above or two at Advanced Subsidiary Level, with Arabic and Islamic education excluded from the five. At least one ranking site in this market publishes six, which is wrong. IB Gram does not perform, submit or guarantee equivalency for anybody, and tutoring is not a requirement for equivalency, admission or progression.

To start with a date in view, bring four things: the specification code and tier for each science, the award route, the marked mock papers rather than the grades, and the series your child is entered for. With those, a diagnosis is possible in the trial lesson and the twelve weeks can be distributed the same day. Coverage across the three sciences at both boards and both tiers is reliable, so a match is usually available within a few working days; what fills first is the hour, and City Walk's short run makes 4pm and 4.30pm the easiest slots in this corridor to hold for a full term.

City Walk, the Al Wasl corridor and the evening a science plan has

The return journey decides the earliest usable session, and in a twelve-week run across three sciences that matters more than usual. These are the directions a City Walk family travels.

City Walk

A low-rise residential and retail district between Al Wasl and Jumeirah, with no school inside it. The short westward and southward runs make an arrival home by 3.50pm realistic from several campuses, which supports a 4pm session.

Al Wasl and Al Safa

The nearest established British-curriculum cluster and the most common destination for City Walk candidates. Ten to twenty minutes outside peak, which is the shortest science-session commute available in this part of Dubai.

Jumeirah 1, 2 and 3

Long-established coastal schools five to twenty minutes away depending on which end. A school bus on the coast road arrives twenty to thirty minutes later than a car because of the stop pattern.

Umm Suqeim and Al Manara

Further west along the coast, fifteen to twenty-five minutes. Thursday evenings are the heaviest of the week on this route, so a weekly science slot on a Thursday will be the one that slips.

Al Quoz

Several campuses inside a district slow to cross in the evening peak. Arrival home fifteen to twenty minutes later than the Al Safa cohort, which pushes the earliest session to around 4.45pm.

Al Barsha

A longer run west along Sheikh Zayed Road to several established campuses. The latest realistic weeknight starts for a City Walk family and the strongest case for weekend mornings in a final run.

La Mer and Pearl Jumeira

Coastal developments immediately north, with few schools and the same commute pattern as City Walk itself. Operationally identical for scheduling purposes.

Downtown Dubai and Business Bay

Ten to fifteen minutes inland, also without schools inside their boundaries. Families moving between these districts and City Walk keep the same schools and the same session timetable.

School ecosystem

IB and Cambridge school communities we support in City Walk

Al Wasl, Al Safa and Jumeirah

The nearest and largest UK-curriculum cluster to City Walk and where most of the district's science candidates study. Both Cambridge and Pearson Edexcel specifications are in use across these schools, so the code must be confirmed before any past paper is worked.

  • Jumeirah College
  • Safa British School
  • Safa Community School
  • Horizon English School
  • Jumeirah English Speaking School, Jumeirah

Umm Suqeim, Al Manara and the coast

Established campuses further west along the coast road, with a longer but predictable journey. Mixed in curriculum, which affects both the award route offered and the practical component a centre uses.

  • Dubai College
  • Kings' School Al Barsha
  • Emirates International School Jumeirah
  • Jumeirah Baccalaureate School
  • Raffles World Academy

Al Quoz, Al Barsha and the inland corridor

The longest journeys from City Walk and the latest realistic weeknight sessions. Families schooling in this direction usually get more usable science minutes from weekend mornings during a final run.

  • Credence High School
  • Repton Al Barsha
  • Dubai Heights Academy
  • GEMS Wellington Academy, Al Khail
  • GEMS Our Own Indian School, Al Quoz

Named schools appear as context for the neighbourhood's education ecosystem. IB Gram has no affiliation, partnership, client relationship or endorsement arrangement with any school named on this page, and inclusion does not imply one.

How matching works

From first enquiry to a tutor who fits

  1. 01

Establish the award route and the codes

Email the school for the award route, the exact specification code for each science and the tier of entry. These determine which past papers are worth working and whether the grade ceiling matches what your child needs at sixteen. One reply usually settles all three.

  2. 02

Ask which practical component the centre uses

Depending on the specification and the centre's arrangements, a candidate may sit a practical examination or a written alternative-to-practical paper. Which applies is not a family choice and it changes the preparation, so it is worth establishing early rather than in the final fortnight.

  3. 03

    Collect the marked mock papers

Six science papers from a mock window are the best free diagnostic data of the year, and most families keep only the three grades. Sort the losses into unattempted, content, command term and six-mark response, because those four need completely different work and differ between the three sciences.

  4. 04

Count the usable weeks, then distribute

Subtract the breaks, the Ramadan weeks, school events and travel from the weeks remaining before the series. What is left is the real calendar. Then distribute the available sessions by recoverable marks rather than evenly across three sciences, which produces an uneven plan that works.

  5. 05

A free trial lesson that ends in a plan

A taught session that produces a written note of marks being lost by type in each science, and a proposed distribution of the remaining weeks. No card is required, and the note is useful whether or not you book anything further.

  6. 06

Review at six weeks on marked work

Compare marked papers against the baseline, then continue, redistribute between the sciences, or finish. Redistribution is the common outcome: the science that looked weakest from a grade is frequently not the one with the most recoverable marks once the papers have been read.

Why families choose us

What UAE parents tell us matters most

Planned from the series, not from a topic list

Every plan starts from the June or November series your child is entered for and counts backwards through breaks, Ramadan and the mock window to the weeks that genuinely remain. A science plan that assumes twelve clear weeks when nine exist fails on the calendar rather than on the teaching.

Sessions distributed by recoverable marks

Three sciences do not get equal shares. The science with the most recoverable marks gets the majority of a limited capacity, the second gets a technique block, and the third gets a diagnostic session and a homework plan. Even distribution is the instinct and the reason most three-science plans stall.

Matched to the syllabus code

Cambridge Physics 0625 and Pearson 4PH1 cover much the same physics with different papers and phrasing. In a final run where a student will complete a limited number of papers, working the wrong board's papers wastes the scarcest resource in the plan.

Practical writing taught as a distinct skill

Method, variables, control, repeats, anomalies and specific error sources, written the way the scheme marks them. It transfers across all three sciences, it is three or four sessions, and it is usually left until it is competing with six theory papers.

Honest about the laboratory

We run no laboratory and do not substitute for school practical work. The laboratory skill is built at school; what a tutor builds is the writing both components mark, worked from your child's own school write-ups. Saying that plainly is more useful than implying otherwise.

Sources and limits both stated

Every AED figure carries the provider that published it and the month it was read; every regulatory fact carries its authority. No in-home visits in the UAE, no office or centre here, no regulator approval claimed, and no statistic without a number, a date and a method.

Questions parents ask

IB and IGCSE tutoring in City Walk: your questions answered

Our mock is in twelve weeks and all three sciences are weak. Where do we start?+

With the marked papers, not with a three-science package. Within twelve weeks a Year 11 in this corridor has realistic capacity for twelve to sixteen sessions, and distributing those evenly across three sciences is the most common reason a plan stalls. Sort the lost marks in each science into unattempted, content, command-term shape and six-mark response. Then give the science with the most recoverable marks seven or eight sessions, the second a short technique block, and the third one diagnostic session with a written homework plan.

When is the award route between triple and double science actually decided?+

Usually in Year 9, alongside the wider option choices, and often with less family consultation than parents expect. Triple science means three separate subjects, three grades and six or more papers. A double award such as Cambridge Co-ordinated Sciences 0654 or Pearson Science Double Award 4SD0 covers all three with reduced content and produces two grades. The window to influence the decision is roughly a term, because the school builds a timetable around a cohort's choices and individual changes become difficult afterwards.

Will a double science award limit my child's sixth-form options in Dubai?+

It can, and the answer varies by receiving school, so ask in writing rather than relying on a general rule. A sixth-form science course, particularly an A Level or an IB Higher Level science, generally expects strong attainment in the relevant separate science or in a double award, and a single combined award can constrain the choice. The practical move is to name the two or three sixth forms you might apply to and ask each what they accept for the science courses your child is interested in.

Can my child still change science tier in Year 11?+

It depends on where in the year you are and whether final entries have been submitted. The tier decision is formed in Year 10 or very early Year 11 on the basis of internal assessment, within the board's deadlines. Raised in the autumn of Year 11, a change is sometimes possible. Raised in the spring, usually not. If the ceiling is fixed and it sits below a sixth-form requirement, the honest plan is to maximise the grade available within the tier and have the sixth-form conversation early rather than late.

Which practical component will my child sit in each science?+

Ask the school's examinations officer, because it depends on the specification and on the centre's arrangements rather than on anything the family chooses. Some specifications set a practical examination and others a written alternative-to-practical paper. Either way the marks come from precise description of method, independent, dependent and control variables, repeats, anomalies and specific sources of error. Establishing which component applies early matters because the preparation differs and because practical work is usually left too late.

Why does my child lose marks on practical questions despite doing the experiments?+

Because the marks are for the writing rather than for the doing. A source of error described as human error scores nothing; the same error described as reading the thermometer at an angle, introducing a parallax error, scores. Variables must be named rather than implied, control variables stated explicitly, and repeats and anomalies addressed. That discipline is three or four sessions per science, transfers across biology, chemistry and physics, and can be built in Year 10 when the week has room for it.

What should we do with six marked science papers from the mock window?+

Sort each paper's lost marks into four piles: not attempted, attempted and wrong on content, right science in the wrong command-term shape, and the six-mark extended responses scored separately. The proportions usually differ noticeably between the three sciences for the same student, which is exactly why a single three-science package wastes most of its hours. Also check whether losses concentrate in the second half of each paper, because that means pacing rather than knowledge and needs question-order work instead of content.

Why does my child score four out of six on extended-response science questions?+

Almost always structure rather than knowledge. A six-mark question expects a developed chain of reasoning with specified linkages, and a student who writes three correct but unconnected statements scores for three. Teaching the structure, which means a stated starting point, explicit links between steps and a conclusion that answers the question asked, takes about three sessions per science and shows in the next marked paper. It is the highest-value recoverable item in IGCSE science and it is rarely taught explicitly.

Which science topics are not worth starting twelve weeks before the papers?+

Electricity and electromagnetism in physics, and organic chemistry, if they have genuinely never been understood. Both are cumulative, both need sustained weeks, and attempting either from scratch across a twelve-week run that also has to prepare six papers takes capacity from work that would actually move marks. The honest plan in that situation is to secure what is secure, take the technique marks across all three sciences, and be realistic about the grade rather than pretending.

When do science candidates in Dubai sit their papers?+

In the June series or the November series. Cambridge International runs IGCSE and O Level examinations in a June series and a November series, with Primary and Lower Secondary Checkpoint tests in March, May and October, and Pearson Edexcel International GCSE examinations are available in May/June and November each year. The Cambridge February/March series is offered to India only, so any plan built around a February or March window is on the wrong country's calendar. Read exact dates from the board's live timetable rather than from any tutoring website.

Why does our school keep asking about an examination zone?+

Because Cambridge allocates every examination centre to one of six administrative zones and the timetable differs by zone. Cambridge states that it is essential to use the correct version of the timetable for your zone, and that it cannot accept responsibility for candidates who miss an examination after using the wrong zone timetable. With six science papers in one series this is not a minor matter. Get the correct zone timetable from your own examinations officer, and use it to learn the paper order so revision can be front-loaded.

Does a practical or coursework mark carry forward to a science resit?+

It depends on the specification and on the centre's arrangements, so ask the school's examinations officer before planning a resit. This is exactly the kind of detail no tutoring page should state as fact, because it varies and because a family would act on it. What can be said generally is that the resit decision should be made from component marks rather than the overall grade: a theory paper that fell a few marks short is a narrow piece of work, and an evenly spread shortfall usually reproduces itself without a change of approach.

How much does it cost to fund all three sciences in Dubai?+

Roughly three times one science, which is the point of asking. At the qualified-tutor online band, Unitors publishes IGCSE tuition from AED 150 an hour, and Bestimate's Tutoring Cost Dubai 2026 table places specialist work at AED 200 to 450 or more. One science at one session a week for twelve weeks is about AED 1,800 to 3,600 at AED 150 to 300 an hour; three sciences on the same pattern is AED 5,400 to 10,800. The three-science version frequently delivers less, because thirty-six sessions is not a load a Year 11 attends.

Can an online tutor help with science when the laboratory is at school?+

For the part that carries the marks, yes. We run no laboratory and do not substitute for the practical work the school provides; the laboratory skill is built there. What a tutor teaches over video is the writing both practical routes actually mark, using your child's own school write-ups as the material: method, variables, control, repeats, anomalies and specific error sources. That is the component families most often neglect and the one that moves fastest, and it needs no equipment on either side of the screen.

How do we keep three sciences moving through the Ramadan weeks?+

Agree the pattern before the month starts rather than deciding week by week. School days shorten and evenings reorganise around iftar, so the usual slot stops working for most City Walk families. Early-afternoon and post-iftar sessions both work. For a Year 11 whose series falls after Ramadan, three or four weeks of lost continuity at that point is the largest avoidable loss in the calendar, and with three sciences the recovery afterwards is longer than with one subject.

Can a science tutor come to our home in City Walk for the final weeks?+

No. IB Gram does not send tutors to homes anywhere in the United Arab Emirates and has no office, branch, centre or laboratory here; home visiting is a service we run only in India. All UAE tuition is one-to-one over live video on Gulf Standard Time. In a final run this is practically useful: a session can be moved by a day around a mock or a school commitment in a message, which with six science papers to prepare is the difference between twelve sessions received and eight.

Count the weeks, read the papers, then choose one science

Four free pieces of information make a science plan work. The award route and the specification code and tier for each science, confirmed in writing by the school. Which practical component the centre uses. The marked mock papers rather than the three grades. And the number of weeks genuinely remaining once the breaks, the Ramadan weeks and the school events are subtracted. With those, the distribution across three sciences is decided by evidence rather than by worry, and it is almost always more concentrated than a parent expects. Bring them to a short consultation on Gulf Standard Time. The trial lesson is free, no card is required, and it ends with a written note of marks being lost in each science and a proposed plan for the weeks that are left.
