IB Diploma Home Tutor in the UAE

Searching for an IB diploma home tutor in the UAE usually means one thing: your child is two years from a 45-point scale and the school timetable has run out of room. IB Gram answers that search with one-to-one lessons over live video, from Dubai and Abu Dhabi out to Ras Al Khaimah, timed to Gulf Standard Time and the school run. This page sets out the system a Diploma family here has to work inside: who licenses the school, who awards the points, who approves the tutor, and which of those levers tuition can honestly touch.

  • One-to-one Diploma lessons over live video, timed to Gulf Standard Time
  • Every emirate covered: KHDA, ADEK, SPEA and the federal Ministry of Education
  • Coursework support stops at teaching and feedback on the student's own work
  • One free trial lesson first, with no card details taken

IB & IGCSE in the UAE

What a UAE family is really buying when they search for a Diploma home tutor

An IB diploma home tutor in the UAE is a phrase typed by a parent who has already worked out that the school timetable will not stretch any further. Your child is carrying six subjects, three of them at Higher Level, a 4,000-word Extended Essay, a Theory of Knowledge essay and a CAS file, all inside two years that end with external papers. The market answers that search with a visit. Published rates for a visiting tutor in Dubai run from roughly AED 180 to AED 500 an hour with travel folded into the figure, and monthly visiting packages of AED 1,599 to AED 1,799 for four two-hour sessions are advertised openly. That is a real service, and some families want exactly that. It is worth knowing what the hour contains before you buy it.

IB Gram sells the same hour differently. Every family in the Emirates on this platform is taught one-to-one over live video: screen shared, the student's own document open, the paper annotated while the lesson runs. Visiting tuition is a service we run only in India, and we would rather say so on the page than let you find out on the phone. The reason is not cost. A Diploma problem is almost always a subject-and-level problem, and Higher Level Chemistry in the second week of DP2 needs a teacher who knows how the internally assessed investigation is moderated, not whoever teaches general science within a twenty-minute drive of your community.

The rest of this page is about the system your family works inside, because that is the part nobody writes down. Four separate bodies sit above a UAE Diploma student. The emirate authority licenses and oversees the school: the Knowledge and Human Development Authority in Dubai, the Department of Education and Knowledge in Abu Dhabi and Al Ain, the Sharjah Private Education Authority in Sharjah, the Department of Knowledge in Ras Al Khaimah, and the federal Ministry of Education in Ajman, Umm Al Quwain and Fujairah. In Sharjah and Ras Al Khaimah that authority also approves 'tuition fees, curricula, programmes, courses, activities and assessment methods', so its reach goes well past inspection. The Ministry sets the Arabic, Islamic Education and Social Studies requirement that runs beside the Diploma in every private school. And the IB, which licenses none of the above, is the body that actually awards the points.

None of those four bodies is your child's school, and the school is the one holding your deadlines. It owns the option blocks that decide whether Physics Higher Level is even available. It owns the exam entries, because it is the registered centre. It owns the predicted grades your university applications will quote. It sets the internal deadlines for the Internal Assessment, the Extended Essay and the Theory of Knowledge exhibition, usually months before the IB's own upload dates. Separately, the Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation owns the question of whether a tutor may be paid at all: the private tuition work permit was introduced by Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023 and is granted free of charge for two years. A tutor owns none of these levers. What a tutor moves is the quality of the student's own work before each of those decisions gets made.

So the page is laid out as a map of that system rather than a list of promises. It covers where the 45 points come from and who marks each part, the failing conditions that quietly stop a Diploma being awarded, who decides what across a UAE Diploma year, why your school may not teach the Higher Level your child needs, what the market charges and what the travel inside that fee buys, and the exact line a paid tutor does not cross on assessed work. Two things are deliberately missing. There is no IB exam or results date anywhere on this page, because ibo.org blocks automated checking and your DP coordinator holds the calendar that counts. And there is no claim of approval, accreditation or partnership with any regulator or examination board, because IB Gram holds none of them and the phrase is the single most dangerous one in this market.

  • Lessons are one-to-one over live video; visiting tuition is offered only in India, never at a UAE address
  • Higher Level 12 points and Standard Level 9 points are separate thresholds from the 24-point total

IB programmes

Every IB programme stage, mapped to UAE school years

Most families arriving on this page have a DP1 or DP2 student, but the Diploma is not the only shape the IB takes in a UAE school. These are the four routes we support, and what each one means once the Ministry's own subject requirements are added to the timetable.

DPAges 16-19 · Years 12-13 · DP1 and DP2

Diploma Programme

Six subjects, one from each group with limited substitution, three taken at Higher Level and three at Standard Level. Each subject is graded 1 to 7, giving 42 points, with up to three more from the Extended Essay and Theory of Knowledge taken together, for a maximum of 45. Twenty-four points is the floor, but the award also depends on separate Higher Level and Standard Level point thresholds, on no grade 1 appearing anywhere, and on CAS being completed and evidenced. Most of the grade sits in external papers; a fifth or so of several subjects is marked in school and moderated by the IB.

In the UAE the Diploma runs inside a school year shaped by the emirate authority and by the Ministry's mandatory subjects, so a DP student is carrying Arabic, Islamic Education or Social Studies on top of the six. That matters when you pick a weekly tuition slot: the evening is shorter than the subject list suggests, and Ramadan moves the whole school day for several weeks of the DP2 revision run.

DP CoursesAges 16-19 · Years 12-13 · certificate route

Diploma Programme course candidate

A student can be registered for individual DP subjects rather than the full Diploma, receiving certificates for the courses sat. The subject teaching, the papers and the internally assessed components are the same, and the grading is the same 1 to 7 scale. What changes is that there is no 45-point total, no core requirement and no failing-condition arithmetic, because there is no Diploma being awarded. Universities read the certificates subject by subject, which makes the choice of which subjects to take unusually consequential.

UAE families end up here for practical reasons: a mid-Diploma arrival from another curriculum, a serious illness in DP1, or a student who needs two strong Higher Levels for a named course rather than a full Diploma. Because the Ministry of Education's equivalency route is written around complete certificates, check the position with the school registrar and the Ministry's own channel before committing to the course route.

MYP 4-5Ages 14-16 · Years 10-11

Middle Years Programme, the run-up to DP1

The two years before the Diploma are where the level choice is really made. MYP 4 and 5 use criterion-based assessment with achievement levels rather than examination papers, so a student can arrive in DP1 having never sat a timed paper under external conditions. The gap shows up first in Mathematics and the sciences, where Higher Level assumes fluency the criteria did not have to test, and second in extended writing against a word limit and a deadline.

Several UAE schools run the MYP and the Diploma on one campus, which is an advantage: the subject-choice meeting happens with teachers who know the DP option blocks. Use it. Ask in MYP 5 which Higher Levels the school can actually timetable next year, because the honest answer is sometimes narrower than the brochure and it is better heard a year early.

CPAges 16-19 · Years 12-13

Career-related Programme

The CP combines at least two DP courses with a career-related study, a reflective project, a service-learning element, personal and professional skills, and language development. It is graded differently from the Diploma: the DP courses keep the 1 to 7 scale while the career-related study is reported on its own terms. Students take it when they want recognised depth in two academic subjects alongside a vocational qualification rather than six academic subjects at once.

The CP is offered by a small number of UAE schools, and university recognition varies by institution and by country, so the course-by-course conversation with an admissions office matters more here than on any other route. We support the DP course components; the career-related study belongs to the school and its partner provider.

Subject coverage

IB and IGCSE subjects we tutor

These are the Diploma subjects UAE families ask for most often, with what the assessment actually rewards. Online IB Diploma tuition in the UAE works subject by subject and level by level, so the first question we ask is never 'which year' but 'which paper, and which criterion'.

Mathematics: Analysis and Approaches

HL and SL

The route most UAE engineering and economics applicants need. Higher Level adds proof, deeper calculus and an extra paper, and the marks go on method shown rather than answers reached. The exploration is marked in school and moderated, and the commonest loss is a piece of correct mathematics with no genuine personal engagement or reflection attached to it.

Mathematics: Applications and Interpretation

HL and SL

Statistics, modelling and technology-heavy work, with the graphical display calculator assumed rather than tolerated. It suits business, psychology and design routes, but some UAE and overseas university courses still specify Analysis and Approaches, so the route choice should be checked against the named programme before DP1 begins, not in DP2.

Physics

HL and SL

Marks are lost in two predictable places: multi-step questions where no working is shown, and the internally assessed investigation where uncertainty is reported as a number with no account of where it came from. Higher Level adds topics and a longer paper, and the step up in algebraic fluency catches students arriving from criterion-assessed MYP science.

Chemistry

HL and SL

Organic mechanisms and energetics generate most of the panic, but the grade usually turns on data handling and on the scientific investigation, which carries about a fifth of the subject. A Higher Level Chemistry tutor in Abu Dhabi spends as much time on how the method was justified as on the chemistry itself, because that is where the criteria put the marks.

Biology

HL and SL

Content volume is the trap. Students revise the recall and under-practise the command terms, so answers describe where the question said explain or evaluate. The investigation rewards a narrow, well-controlled question over an ambitious one, and the students who choose narrow in DP1 are reliably calmer in DP2.

Economics

HL and SL

Diagrams carry marks, and so does the evaluation sentence that most students leave out. Higher Level adds quantitative demands and a further paper. The internally assessed commentaries need current articles and tight word discipline, and choosing the article badly costs more marks than writing the commentary badly.

Business Management

HL and SL

Tools applied to a real organisation, not recited. The common failure is a candidate who can define a framework and cannot use it on the case material in front of them. The internally assessed project needs an organisation that will actually supply information, which in the UAE is worth settling early rather than optimistically.

English A: Language and Literature

HL and SL

Unseen analysis, the individual oral and, at Higher Level, an essay on a studied text. The oral is where preparation shows most clearly, because it is built around a global issue and two chosen extracts. Practice has to happen on texts that are not the assessed ones, which is a boundary we keep to deliberately.

Arabic A and Arabic B

HL and SL

Arabic can be a Diploma subject in its own right at either language level, which is separate from the Arabic lesson the Ministry requires every private school to run. Families frequently discover the two are different things in DP1. Arabic B rewards structured writing against the text types the guide lists, and oral fluency practised aloud rather than read.

History

HL and SL

Source work, essay structure and, at Higher Level, a third paper on a regional option. The internally assessed historical investigation is where students lose most: the source evaluation section is short, specific and heavily weighted, and a strong narrative with weak evaluation does not score.

Psychology

HL and SL

Studies have to be used as evidence for an argument, not listed. The experimental study written up for internal assessment is tightly specified, and candidates lose marks for an inexact replication or a results section that reports without interpreting. Higher Level adds extra topics and a further paper.

How sessions run

Tutoring formats built around UAE school timetables

Four shapes of support, all delivered one-to-one over live video. Most Diploma families start with the first and add the second in the months before mocks, and the honest answer is that two of the four should not run all year.

Weekly one-to-one across both Diploma years

A fixed slot in one subject at one level, running from DP1 through to the session. The value is cumulative: the tutor sees the mocks, the Internal Assessment draft and the school reports in sequence, and can tell you where the point total is actually sitting rather than how the last lesson felt. This is the arrangement that holds a weak Standard Level above the 9-point threshold.

  • Same tutor, same time, held through the school year
  • Written notes after each lesson, readable by a parent
  • A forecast of the subject grade based on work seen, never a promise
  • Pauses for school holidays and Eid without losing the slot

Higher Level paper clinic before mocks and the session

A short block of intensive one-to-one on papers alone: command terms, mark allocation, timing, and the three or four topics the last mock exposed. It assumes the content is broadly there and the marks are leaking in the exam room. We run these as blocks rather than open-ended terms because the work has a finish line.

  • Built around the papers the student has actually sat
  • Timed questions marked against published criteria, then reworked
  • Topic triage: what to repair, what to leave alone
  • Scheduled around the school's mock week, not ours

Extended Essay and Theory of Knowledge review

Teaching and feedback on the student's own draft, inside IB rules. A tutor can argue with a research question, point out that a counter-claim is missing, and show what referencing has to look like. A tutor cannot be an author of any part of it, and the school supervisor remains the person who runs the reflection sessions and signs the work off.

  • Research question and structure discussed before any drafting begins
  • Written feedback on the student's own text, with the student revising it
  • Reflection sessions stay with the school supervisor
  • Any request to have the work produced for the student is refused

Arabic and Ministry-subject support beside the Diploma

Arabic, Islamic Education and Social Studies run in every UAE private school regardless of the licensed curriculum, and they sit on the same evening as six Diploma subjects. Support here is deliberately conservative: we work with the material the school is using, because for these subjects the use of different or additional content without prior Ministry permission is not allowed.

  • Uses the school's own set material rather than substitute content
  • Separate help for the first-language and additional-language streams
  • Short sessions, chosen to protect Diploma revision time
  • Teachers of these subjects in school need the authority's own approval; we do not replace them

IB and IGCSE tutors available to students in the UAE

The tutors below teach the Diploma as the structure it actually is: three Higher Levels carrying the weight, three Standard Levels that quietly decide whether the total clears 24, and a core sitting on top of both. Each one works online, one-to-one, with a UAE school calendar open beside the syllabus.

What IB and IGCSE study actually looks like in the UAE

01

What the phrase 'Diploma home tutor' actually buys in the UAE right now

  • A permit holder, a licensed centre and an online platform are three different legal arrangements
  • Visiting bands sit above online bands because travel is inside the fee
  • Specialist supply, not price, is the binding constraint outside Dubai and Abu Dhabi
  • IB Gram delivers UAE tuition online; visiting tuition is an India-only service

Three different services answer this one search. The first is an individual tutor who holds the MoHRE private tuition work permit and drives to your community; the permit was introduced by Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023, is granted free of charge for two years, and covers categories including teachers registered in government or private schools, government and private-sector employees, unemployed residents, university students and school students aged 15 to 18. The second is a tuition centre with premises, which in Dubai is a different legal animal again and needs a KHDA Educational Services Permit for a training institute. The third is one-to-one tuition delivered over live video, which is what IB Gram provides to every family in the Emirates.

The visiting option is the one the search phrase implies, so price it properly. Published market figures for a visiting tutor in Dubai run from about AED 180 to AED 350 an hour at the mid tier and up to AED 500 for independent home tutors, with monthly visiting packages advertised at AED 1,599 to AED 1,799 for four two-hour sessions. Online bands sit below that: budget providers publish hourly figures from AED 33 to AED 65, qualified subject tutors from AED 150, IB specialists from around AED 200 to AED 450, and one premium provider publishes AED 650. The gap between the visiting band and the online band is not teaching quality. It is a car crossing the city at 5pm.

What that travel costs a Diploma family is not only money. It is the twenty minutes at the start of a session that belong to the road rather than to Paper 2, the cancelled lesson in a week with a sandstorm, and the hard geographic limit on who can teach your child at all. Families in Fujairah, Umm Al Quwain or Al Ain feel this first: whatever rate you are willing to pay, the pool of people who can reach you and who have taught Higher Level Chemistry under IB moderation is very small.

IB Gram's position is plain. We teach UAE families one-to-one over live video, with screen sharing for the student's own work, and visiting tuition remains a service we run only in India. The first lesson is a free trial, with no card details taken, and if the fit is wrong we change the tutor rather than argue about it. What you give up is somebody in the room. What you get is the person who actually teaches your child's subject at your child's level, on a slot that starts on time in Gulf Standard Time.

02

Where the 45 points come from, and which of them tuition can move

A Diploma grade is not one number arrived at in one way. Six subjects are graded 1 to 7, giving a maximum of 42, and the Extended Essay and Theory of Knowledge are read together to add up to three more, for 45. Inside each subject the marks split again: most of the grade comes from external papers marked by examiners who have never met your child, and a substantial slice, commonly around a fifth in the sciences and mathematics, comes from work marked by the school teacher and then moderated by the IB. Parents who understand that split ask much better questions at parents' evening.

The practical consequence is that different parts of the Diploma respond to different things. Paper technique responds quickly to coaching, because command terms, mark allocation and timing are learnable skills and a student who writes 'describe' answers to 'evaluate' questions can be retrained inside a term. Internally assessed work responds slowly, because it depends on a method chosen months earlier and on data the student actually collected. The core responds only to being started early. CAS responds to nothing at all except being done and evidenced.

This is also where an honest tutor has to be clear about limits. Nobody can promise a point total, and a provider promising a point total is describing something outside its own control: the papers are externally marked, the internal marks are moderated, and grade awards sit with the IB. What tuition can do is improve the work that goes into each component before it is marked, and give you a forecast based on work actually seen. A forecast that moves down after a bad mock is more useful than one that never moves.

Use the table below as the map of who marks what. It is also the quickest way to see why 'my child needs a tutor' is rarely the right sentence: what a Diploma student usually needs is a specific component fixed, and the component tells you what kind of help to buy.

03

The failing conditions nobody explains until February of DP2

Twenty-four points is the number families know. It is not the only test. A candidate can clear 24 and still not be awarded the Diploma, because the award also depends on how those points are distributed and on whether the core and CAS were completed. Every year, UAE DP2 families discover this in the spring, when a coordinator sits them down and explains that two low Standard Levels and an unfinished Theory of Knowledge essay have put the whole award at risk even though the total looks survivable.

The conditions are published, stable and genuinely useful to read in DP1 rather than DP2. Fewer than 24 points in total is a fail. A grade E in Theory of Knowledge or the Extended Essay is a fail on its own. A single grade 1 in any subject at either level is a fail. Three or more grade 2s is a fail, as is four or more grades of 3 or below. Higher Level and Standard Level carry separate floors: fewer than 12 points across the Higher Levels fails, and fewer than 9 across the Standard Levels fails. CAS requirements not met fails. Because the list can be refined between cohorts, confirm the version that applies to your child with the DP coordinator, who has the current handbook.

Read as a set, these conditions change what good tutoring looks like. The instinct is to put money behind the subject the student loves and is already strong in, because progress there is visible and pleasant. The arithmetic says otherwise: the award is usually threatened by the two or three subjects nobody is discussing, and by a core component that was left until the term it was due. One hour a week on the weakest Standard Level does more for the Diploma than a third hour on the strongest Higher Level.

It also changes what you should ask at a report cycle. Not 'how is she doing in Economics', but 'read me the six grades and the two core grades, and tell me which failing condition is closest'. Any tutor worth paying should be able to answer that for the subject they teach, and should tell you plainly when the answer is 'this is not the subject putting the Diploma at risk'.

04

Who decides what across a UAE Diploma year

This is the table we wish every Diploma family had in DP1. Almost every frustration that reaches us is really a misreading of who holds a particular lever. A parent spends three weeks trying to get a Higher Level added when the option block closed in June. Another asks a tutor to speak to the school about a predicted grade, which is not a conversation a paid tutor should be having. A third assumes the IB sets the Internal Assessment deadline, when the date that binds is the one the school set months earlier so it can mark and moderate before uploading.

The emirate authority sits further away from your daily decisions than its reputation suggests. It licenses and oversees the school, and in Sharjah and Ras Al Khaimah it also approves fees, curricula, programmes, courses, activities and assessment methods. What it does not do is award your child's points or set your coursework dates. The IB awards the grades and sets the external framework. The Ministry of Education sets the mandatory subject requirement and, at the end, handles equivalency of the certificate. MoHRE governs whether the tutor may be paid at all.

Inside all of that, the school holds most of the levers that matter week to week: the option blocks, level changes, exam entries as the registered centre, predicted grades, and the internal calendar for the core and the Internal Assessments. That concentration is why the single most valuable thing a UAE parent can do in the first term of DP1 is ask the coordinator for the school's own written deadline calendar, and then plan everything, including tuition, backwards from it.

The right question to ask a prospective tutor is therefore not 'can you get her to a 7'. It is 'given that the school owns these decisions, what exactly will you change?' An honest answer is narrow and specific: the quality of the work before each of those decisions is made.

Option blocks: why your school may not teach the Higher Level your child needs

  • A small DP cohort, not a lack of interest, is what closes a Higher Level option
  • Seven new Dubai schools in 2026-27, three of them IB, add 16,846 places over time
  • Subject entries belong to the school as the registered centre, so a clash is not tutorable
  • Ask in MYP 5 which Higher Level combinations have actually run in recent years

Dubai's private sector taught 387,441 students across 227 schools offering 17 different curricula in 2024-25, with UK curriculum schools at 37% of enrolment, Indian at 26%, American at 14% and the International Baccalaureate at 7%. That last figure is the one Diploma families feel. A sector this large still produces small DP cohorts per school, and a small cohort cannot timetable every Higher Level against every other one. The result is the option block: a grid where Physics sits in the same column as Economics, and a student who wants both is told to choose.

Supply is improving rather than solved. Dubai's 2026-27 intake adds seven new private schools, four UK curriculum and three International Baccalaureate, creating 16,846 new places, after six schools opened during 2025-26 and enrolment rose 6%. More IB schools eventually means more Diploma cohorts and more option combinations. It does nothing for a student already in DP1 whose timetable clash is live this term, and outside Dubai and Abu Dhabi the arithmetic is tighter still: in Al Ain, Fujairah and Umm Al Quwain a family may have one realistic Diploma school within reach.

A clash cannot be solved by tuition, and no honest provider should pretend otherwise. A candidate is registered for the Diploma by an IB World School, so the subjects your child sits are the subjects the school enters them for. What tuition can do is make the forced choice survivable: carry the subject the student had to take at a level they can hold, protect the Higher Levels they did get, and keep the Higher Level point floor of 12 in view while doing it. Where a school cannot staff a Higher Level specialist for the subject it does run, a subject specialist outside the emirate is often the only realistic support available.

If you are still in MYP 5, this is the conversation to have a year early. Ask which Higher Levels the school expects to timetable, ask which combinations have failed to run in recent years, and ask what happens if too few students pick a subject. The answers are usually given honestly when asked in February and defensively when asked in September.

06

Your child's school is the examination centre, and that changes your deadlines

A Diploma candidate does not register with the IB. The school does, as the examination centre, and that single fact reorganises the family calendar. Exam entries are made by the school by the school's deadline. Subject and level changes have to be processed by the school through registration, which is why a request made in the same term as the problem is often possible and the same request made later is often not. Internally assessed work has to reach the school early enough for the teacher to mark it and for the IB to moderate, so the deadline that binds your child is the school's date, not the one on any published IB schedule.

This page publishes no IB session or results date. That is deliberate: ibo.org blocks automated checking, so nothing could be verified for this project, and an unverified date on a tutoring page is worse than no date at all. Your DP coordinator holds the authoritative calendar for your cohort. What is safe to say is that UAE schools sit the May session, that a November session also exists, and that the internal deadlines sit months ahead of the papers.

If you want to see how early entry deadlines really are, look at the examination boards that do publish. Cambridge International's March 2027 series runs from 3 February to 4 March 2027, with final entries due on 27 November 2026, forecast grades on 27 February 2027 and results released on Direct on 13 May. Cambridge also allocates every centre to one of six administrative zones and warns that it 'cannot accept responsibility for candidates who miss an exam' if the wrong zone timetable was used. Pearson Edexcel runs International GCSE in May/June and November, with the November 2026 timetable running to 19 November 2026 and June 2026 results reaching students on 20 August 2026. Those are sibling-subject facts for a family with an IGCSE child, and they illustrate the general rule: the administrative deadlines are months before the papers.

The practical move is dull and effective. In the first term of DP1, ask the coordinator for three things in writing: the internal deadline calendar for every Internal Assessment and core component, the date by which a level change must be requested, and the session the school intends to enter your child for. Pin tuition to those dates. A tutor who plans around a published external timetable instead of your school's internal one will be late twice.

Predicted grades, and the request a tutor should refuse

  • Predictions rest on evidence already gathered, mainly mocks and coursework drafts
  • Support in DP1 can move a prediction; support after offers mainly moves final grades
  • No tutor should lobby a school or supply work to influence a teacher's judgement
  • Ask which evidence a prediction rests on, rather than asking for a different figure

Predicted grades are issued by your child's subject teachers and signed off by the DP coordinator. Universities use them to make conditional offers, so for a UAE family applying to the UK, the US, Canada or into the region, these numbers arrive before any real results exist and do a great deal of work. They are not negotiable in the way parents sometimes hope, and they are not a reward for effort. They are a professional judgement based on evidence: mock papers sat under conditions, Internal Assessment drafts, classwork, and the teacher's read of trajectory.

What this means for tuition is a question of timing. Support that arrives before the evidence is gathered can genuinely change the prediction, because the mock paper that gets marked in November is the mock paper the prediction rests on. Support that arrives after predictions are issued changes the final grade, which still matters enormously, but it will not retrospectively improve an offer already made on a lower number. Families who come to us in DP1 about a subject that is drifting are usually surprised at how much of the prediction is still in play; families who arrive after offers have landed are often really asking about the final session, and should be told that plainly.

There is a line here that a paid tutor must not cross. A tutor should not contact your child's school to argue for a higher prediction, should not coach a student to present work that is not theirs as evidence, and should not offer to supply coursework that lifts a teacher's judgement. Any of those turns a legitimate service into interference in a school's professional process, and in the coursework case into academic malpractice with consequences that land on the student rather than on the provider. The acceptable version is narrow and effective: better work, produced by the student, in front of the teacher making the judgement.

What we will give you is our own forecast, based on the work the tutor has seen, with its reasoning attached and its uncertainty admitted. Where it differs from the school's prediction, the useful conversation is about which pieces of evidence the two of you are each looking at. That is a conversation a coordinator will have. A demand for a different number is not.

Arabic, Islamic Education and Social Studies beside six Diploma subjects

Every Dubai private school teaches Arabic, Islamic Education and Social or Moral Studies regardless of the international curriculum it is licensed for, and KHDA's requirements had to be implemented by the start of the 2025-26 academic year. At federal level the position is the same in substance: private schools are not obliged to follow a specific curriculum beyond Arabic language, social studies and Islamic studies, but must adhere to the Ministry's general regulations. A Diploma student in the UAE is therefore carrying nine demands on a timetable designed for six, and this is the most common reason a weekly tuition slot has to be chosen rather than simply added.

The detail matters if you are buying support for these subjects. KHDA requires schools to run separate classes by group: for Arabic as a first language, Islamic Education and Social Studies, classes for Arabs and non-Arabs must be organised separately, and combined classes are strictly prohibited because the curriculum expectations and language of instruction differ. Standard Arabic is required as the main language of instruction for Islamic Education for Arabs and for Arabic as a first language, Arabic is the primary language for Social Studies for Arab students, and the school's licensed-curriculum language applies for non-Arabs in Islamic Education and in Moral, Social and Cultural studies. Schools must also ensure that all teachers of Islamic Education and Arabic hold the appropriate KHDA approval to teach those subjects.

Two of those rules shape what outside support can honestly offer. First, placement is the school's decision, so a tutor cannot move a child between the first-language and additional-language streams, and should not promise to. Second, for the mandatory subjects the use of any different or additional content without prior permission from the Ministry is strictly prohibited, which means a tutor should be working through the material the school is actually using rather than importing a parallel course. We treat that as a hard limit, not a preference.

There is also a time arithmetic worth doing before you buy anything. KHDA calculates mandatory-subject instructional time on a 40-minute lesson unit, allows schools to vary lesson length provided the weekly total is met, and advises that any mandatory-subject lesson runs at least 25 minutes. Add those periods to six Diploma subjects, the core and CAS, and the evening that is left is narrow. Our advice to DP2 families is usually to keep Ministry-subject support short and targeted, and to protect the hour that is doing the heaviest Diploma work.

What the market charges for Diploma support, and what the travel inside it buys

Three of the six best-ranking pages in this market publish no price at all, and the two that do quote in US dollars, a currency UAE families do not transact in. So here are the AED bands as other providers publish them, read in October 2026, with the source attached to each row. These are market figures, not an IB Gram rate card: we quote after the free trial lesson, when we know the subject, the level and how many hours the plan actually needs, because a quote given before that is a guess dressed as a price.

The pattern in the table is consistent. A visiting hour costs more than an online hour at every tier, and the difference is the car. Budget providers publish online rates from AED 33 to AED 65, qualified subject tutors from AED 150, IB and IGCSE specialists from roughly AED 200 to AED 450, and one premium provider publishes AED 650. Visiting rates start around AED 180, run to AED 350 in the mid band and up to AED 500 for independent home tutors. Monthly packages are advertised both ways: around AED 799 a month for eight online sessions, and AED 1,599 to AED 1,799 a month for four two-hour visits.

Put the number next to your school fee rather than next to nothing, which is the comparison that actually helps. KHDA confirmed in May 2026 that there would be no increase in private school fees in Dubai for the 2026-27 academic year, under an economic incentives package valued at AED 1.5 billion within a AED 2.5 billion total. For most families the tuition decision is therefore being made against a known, flat school fee, and the sensible unit of comparison is the weekly hour across a term, not the hourly rate in isolation. One Higher Level hour a week for a term is a different commitment from two visits a week in the exam year.

Two practical cautions. Ask any provider whether the quoted figure includes VAT and get the answer in writing; we will not characterise the tax treatment of tuition fees in the UAE on a web page, because that is a question for the Federal Tax Authority's own guidance. And treat a discount offered against a promised outcome with real scepticism, because the outcome is not in the provider's gift: papers are externally marked and grades are awarded by the IB.

A visiting tutor against live one-to-one online, for a Diploma family

This is the comparison the search phrase deserves, so here it is without the sales tone. A tutor in the room has real advantages: a younger child concentrates better with an adult beside them, nothing depends on the wifi, and a parent can hear what is happening from the next room. For primary and lower secondary work those advantages are often decisive, and families who choose a visiting tutor for a ten-year-old are not making a mistake.

The Diploma changes the weighting. By DP1 the student is sixteen, the work is subject-specific to the point of being component-specific, and the question stops being 'who is good with children' and becomes 'who has taught this syllabus at this level and knows how this component is marked'. Geography is a poor filter for that. An online pool lets a family in Al Ain or Ras Al Khaimah work with the Higher Level Chemistry specialist rather than the nearest available science graduate, and screen sharing happens to suit Diploma work unusually well: the student's own document, annotated live, with the notes and the recording kept for revision.

There are honest trade-offs. A live video lesson needs a quiet room and a working connection, and a student who will not open their own file is harder to manage remotely than in person. We mitigate that in dull, practical ways: a fixed weekly slot, written notes after each lesson so a parent can see what happened, and a change of tutor rather than a negotiation if the fit is wrong. What we do not do is send someone to a UAE address, and the table below is the honest version of why.

One more point that only shows up over two years. Diploma families in this region move: a job changes emirate, a summer runs long in another country, a school place opens in Dubai in January. A visiting arrangement ends every time that happens and the search starts again. An online arrangement survives it, with the same tutor, the same plan and a new school calendar to work against.

The core, its limits, and the line a paid tutor does not cross

The Diploma core is where tutoring in this market goes wrong, and it goes wrong commercially rather than accidentally. One page ranking in this cluster sells completed Internal Assessments outright. That is not a grey area: assessed work must be the student's own, a candidate signs to that effect, the coordinator declares it, and the consequence of a breach falls on the student in the form of a malpractice finding, not on the provider who took the fee. Any offer to hand back a finished Extended Essay, Theory of Knowledge essay or Internal Assessment should end the conversation.

What a tutor may legitimately do is substantial, and worth spelling out because the honest version is often more useful than the dishonest one. A tutor can argue with a research question until it is answerable in 4,000 words. A tutor can read the student's own draft and give written feedback on structure, argument, use of sources and referencing. A tutor can teach the uncertainty treatment a scientific investigation needs, or check whether the mathematics in an exploration is actually at the level the criteria expect. A tutor can mark practice work against published criteria so the student knows what the words mean. In every case the student writes, revises and submits, and the school supervisor runs the reflection sessions and signs the work off.

The limits in the table are worth knowing before the drafting starts, because most core disasters are timetable failures rather than ability failures. An Extended Essay has a word limit and a required pattern of supervised reflection; a Theory of Knowledge essay answers a prescribed title in a fixed number of words; the exhibition is a short commentary on three objects. These are small documents with long lead times, and the students who come unstuck are almost always the ones who started late rather than the ones who wrote badly. Figures here follow the current guides as schools are teaching them, and you should confirm the exact limits for your child's cohort in the subject guide the school holds.

We also will not reproduce or supply IB, Cambridge or Pearson syllabus documents, past papers, mark schemes or grade boundary tables. They belong to the boards, your school has legitimate access, and we reference and link rather than redistribute. A provider offering a library of board material as a selling point is telling you something about how it handles other people's rules.

Areas we cover across the UAE

Which authority sits above your child's school depends on the emirate, and so does what that authority controls. Lessons reach all seven emirates the same way, over live video, so the differences below are about regulation, school supply and what time a session can realistically start.

Dubai

KHDA oversees the quality of private education here, across 227 schools and 387,441 students in 2024-25. Diploma supply is the deepest in the country, but a 4pm session still depends on Sheikh Zayed Road, which is exactly why an online slot starts when your child sits down.

Abu Dhabi

ADEK supervises the licensing and accreditation of private schools in the emirate, and is named by almost no tutoring site in this market. Island and Khalifa City families often have one or two realistic Diploma schools within reach, which narrows subject choice before tuition is even discussed.

Al Ain

Also ADEK territory, with far fewer IB World Schools than the capital. Higher Level specialists are the pinch point rather than general subject help, and the drive that a visiting tutor would have to make is the reason an online specialist usually wins on both time and choice.

Sharjah

The Sharjah Private Education Authority regulates private education here and approves fees, curricula, programmes, courses, activities and assessment methods. An IB Diploma tutor in Sharjah therefore has to work with a school calendar the authority has signed off, not an invented one.

Ajman

The federal Ministry of Education supervises private schools in Ajman. Families often commute to Sharjah or Dubai for a Diploma place, so the evening slot is set by the return journey rather than by the school bell, and a fixed online time removes that variable.

Ras Al Khaimah

The Department of Knowledge regulates private education in Ras Al Khaimah and, like Sharjah's authority, approves curricula and assessment methods. Diploma cohorts are small, which makes an unavailable Higher Level option more likely and a specialist outside the emirate more useful.

Fujairah

Ministry of Education territory on the east coast, with the longest distances to a large IB cohort. This is where the visiting-tutor model breaks down first: there is no pool to draw from within a sensible drive, whatever rate a family is willing to pay.

Umm Al Quwain

Also supervised federally by the Ministry of Education. The practical answer for a Diploma student here is online teaching with a specialist, planned around a commute that frequently crosses two emirates each school day.

School ecosystem

IB and Cambridge school communities we support in the UAE

Dubai IB World Schools

Dubai holds the country's largest Diploma cohort, spread across schools that run the IB alone and schools that run it beside another curriculum. Programme offers change year to year, so confirm the current Diploma subject list with the school or against KHDA's own published listing before you plan a two-year route.

  • Deira International School
  • GEMS World Academy - Dubai
  • Dubai American Academy
  • Nord Anglia International School Dubai
  • Greenfield International School
  • Uptown International School
  • JESS Arabian Ranches

Abu Dhabi and Al Ain

The capital's Diploma schools sit under ADEK, which supervises licensing and accreditation in the emirate. Cohorts are smaller than Dubai's, so Higher Level option blocks are tighter and a subject combination that works on paper may not exist on the timetable. Ask before the choice form, not after.

  • Raha International School
  • American Community School of Abu Dhabi
  • Al Bateen Academy
  • GEMS World Academy - Abu Dhabi

Sharjah and the northern emirates

Sharjah schools answer to SPEA, Ras Al Khaimah schools to the Department of Knowledge, and Ajman, Umm Al Quwain and Fujairah schools to the federal Ministry. Diploma places are fewer and further apart, which is the single clearest argument for teaching online rather than searching for a tutor nearby.

  • Victoria International School of Sharjah
  • Scholars International Academy, Sharjah
  • Ajman Academy
  • RAK Academy

Schools are named here as context about the UAE school system, which students we support attend, and nothing more: IB Gram has no affiliation, partnership or endorsement from any school or school group listed, and programme offers should be confirmed with the school itself.

How matching works

From first enquiry to a tutor who fits

  1. 01

Tell us the school, the six subjects and the three levels

Not a form about aspirations. We want the school's name, the six subjects with Higher and Standard Level marked, the last report or mock grades, and the school's internal deadline for the next Internal Assessment. That is enough to say which component is actually at risk, and whether tuition is the right purchase at all.

  2. 02

One free trial lesson with the subject specialist

The trial is a real lesson in the real subject with the tutor who would teach the term, not a sales call. One lesson, no card details taken, no obligation afterwards. Your child should finish it able to tell you one specific thing they now understand, and if they cannot, say so and we will try a different tutor.

  3. 03

A two-year map pinned to your school's own dates

We build the plan backwards from the school's internal calendar for the Internal Assessments, the Extended Essay and the Theory of Knowledge components, not from a published external timetable. The map says which weeks are for content, which are for papers, and where the core has to be sitting by each school deadline.

  4. 04

Weekly lessons, with notes a parent can read

The same tutor at the same time each week, with written notes after each lesson covering what was taught, what the student got wrong and what they should practise. Notes exist so a parent is never dependent on a teenager's summary of a lesson, and so the next tutor would not start from nothing.

  5. 05

A review at every school report, and a swap if the fit is wrong

At each report cycle we read the six grades as a set against the failing conditions, and tell you which one is nearest. If the subject we teach is no longer the one putting the Diploma at risk, we will say that. If the tutor and the student are not working, we change the tutor rather than renegotiate the hours.

Why families choose us

What UAE parents tell us matters most

Chosen for the subject and the level, not for the drive

A Higher Level component is a specialist problem. Teaching over live video means a family in Fujairah or Al Ain is matched on who has taught the syllabus and knows how the component is moderated, instead of on who can reach the house by 5pm. That is the whole argument for the format, and it holds for Diploma work in a way it does not for primary work.

The regulator map, written down, because you need it

KHDA in Dubai, ADEK in Abu Dhabi and Al Ain, SPEA in Sharjah, the Department of Knowledge in Ras Al Khaimah and the federal Ministry elsewhere. We name the authority, explain what it governs and link to its own pages. We claim no approval, accreditation or partnership from any of them, because IB Gram holds none and that phrase is the most misused one in this market.

A coursework boundary we put in writing

Teaching, feedback and review on the student's own work: yes. Producing assessed work for a candidate: never, in any subject, at any price. We say this on the page rather than in a terms document because one page ranking for these searches sells finished Internal Assessments, and a parent deserves to know which kind of provider they are speaking to.

Scheduling built around a UAE week

Sessions sit in Gulf Standard Time, move after Iftar through Ramadan, pause for Eid and the long summer, and follow the family when a job or a holiday moves them to another time zone. Nothing about that is remarkable. It is just what a UAE school year requires, and it is easier to deliver when nobody has to drive.

Numbers with a source, or no number at all

Every AED band on this page is attributed to the provider or rate tracker that published it, with the month it was read. Every regulatory statement comes from u.ae, KHDA or MoHRE. There is no satisfaction percentage, no average score and no IB exam date, because we could not verify those and an unsourced figure on a tutoring page is worth nothing to you.

Equivalency and paperwork pointed at the official channel

Ministry of Education equivalency for an IB Diploma is a Ministry process, not a service a tutoring platform performs or guarantees. We describe what the reported requirements are for the curricula where they have been published, decline to invent an IB points figure that has not been read on moe.gov.ae, and point you to the Ministry and your school registrar.

Questions parents ask

IB and IGCSE tutoring in the UAE: your questions answered

What exactly stops an IB Diploma from being awarded?+

More than a low total. The published failing conditions include fewer than 24 points overall, a grade E in Theory of Knowledge or the Extended Essay, a grade 1 in any subject, grade 2 awarded three or more times, grade 3 or below awarded four or more times, fewer than 12 points across the Higher Levels, fewer than 9 across the Standard Levels, and CAS requirements not being met. Each is separate, so a candidate can clear 24 points and still miss the award on distribution alone. Ask your DP coordinator for the version that applies to your child's cohort, since the handbook is the authoritative source.

Can a grade E in Theory of Knowledge cost my child the whole Diploma?+

Yes. A grade E in Theory of Knowledge or in the Extended Essay is a failing condition in its own right, independent of how many points the six subjects produced. It is the condition families least expect, because the core is the part of the Diploma that feels optional while six subjects are shouting for attention. The practical defence is timing rather than brilliance: get the essay started early, keep the supervised reflection sessions on schedule, and treat the core deadlines as the first fixed dates in DP1. Most E grades are produced by a fortnight of panic, not by weak thinking.

How do the three bonus points from the core get added up?+

The six subjects produce a maximum of 42 points, seven per subject. The Extended Essay grade and the Theory of Knowledge grade are then read together against a matrix that awards up to three further points, which is how the scale reaches 45. The two core components are not added separately, so a strong Extended Essay can partly compensate for a weaker Theory of Knowledge grade and the reverse. The matrix also interacts with the failing conditions, since an E in either component fails the Diploma regardless of points. Your coordinator holds the current matrix for your child's cohort.

My son has 23 points in his mock results. What does that number mean?+

It means there is work to do and time to do it, not that the Diploma is lost. Mocks are set and marked by the school, usually harshly on purpose, and they are the evidence predictions rest on. Twenty-three is one point under the minimum, so start with distribution rather than the total: add the Higher Level points and check they reach 12, add the Standard Levels and check they reach 9, and look for any grade 1 or a cluster of 2s and 3s. The cheapest point to recover is almost always in the weakest Standard Level, which is usually the subject nobody is discussing.

The timetable puts Physics against Economics. Can tuition fix a subject clash?+

No, and a provider who says otherwise is selling something it cannot deliver. Option blocks belong to the school, and a candidate is registered for the Diploma by an IB World School, so the subjects sat are the subjects the school enters. Small Diploma cohorts are the cause: with the IB at roughly 7% of Dubai private-school enrolment, a single school cannot timetable every Higher Level against every other. What tuition can do is make the forced choice work, by holding the substitute subject at a level the student can sustain and protecting the Higher Level point floor while they do it.

Who issues the predicted grades my child's university offers depend on?+

The subject teachers, signed off by the DP coordinator. They are a professional judgement based on evidence already gathered: mock papers sat under conditions, Internal Assessment drafts, and classwork. That is why timing matters more than effort here. Support in DP1 and early DP2 can genuinely change a prediction, because it changes the work the prediction will be based on. Support arriving after offers have been made mainly changes final grades instead. A tutor should never contact the school to argue for a higher number, and should refuse if asked: that is interference in a school's own process.

Does my child sit the Diploma exams at their own school, or somewhere else?+

At the school, which is the registered examination centre and the body that makes the entries. There is no route for a family to enter a child for the full Diploma directly, which is different from International GCSE, where private candidate entry through a centre does exist. Practically, this means the school's deadlines bind you: entries, level changes and the upload of internally assessed work all run through it. Ask the coordinator in writing which session your child is entered for, and the date by which any level change has to be requested.

Does the school have to be told we have hired a private tutor?+

There is no general requirement to tell a school that you pay for lessons, and plenty of UAE families do without mentioning it. Two things do matter. First, assessed work must be the student's own, and the coordinator declares that, so anything a tutor touches has to stay inside teaching and feedback on the student's draft. Second, Abu Dhabi's professional-ethics rules for private and charter school staff are reported to bar teachers from paid private tutoring of students at their own school, and the MoHRE permit carries a code of conduct to similar effect. Verify that against the current ADEK policy before relying on it.

Can a tutor help with CAS, or is that off limits?+

CAS carries no points, but the Diploma is not awarded if its requirements are not met, which makes it the cheapest possible way to lose two years of work. A tutor cannot do CAS: the experiences are the student's and the reflections have to be theirs. What outside support can reasonably do is help a student build the habit of writing reflections when something happens rather than in June, and plan CAS time so it does not collide with coursework deadlines. The CAS coordinator at the school is the person who signs off completion, and they should be asked each term what is outstanding.

What share of a Diploma subject grade comes from work done inside school?+

It varies by subject, but the pattern is consistent enough to plan around. In the sciences and mathematics the internally assessed component is commonly around a fifth of the subject grade; in some language and arts subjects the internal share is higher. That work is marked by the teacher and then moderated by the IB, so a generous school mark can move after moderation. The planning consequence is simple: internal components are decided months before the papers, they respond slowly to help, and they are the part of the grade a late-arriving tutor can least influence.

Is a two-year Diploma support plan affordable beside a UAE school fee?+

Do the arithmetic weekly rather than hourly. Published market bands put a qualified subject tutor online at AED 150 to AED 300 an hour and an IB specialist at roughly AED 200 to AED 450, with visiting rates above both because travel sits inside the fee. One Higher Level hour a week across a term is a very different commitment from two visits a week in the exam year. KHDA also confirmed in May 2026 that private school fees in Dubai would not rise for 2026-27, so most families are planning against a flat school fee. We quote after the free trial, not before.

Our search was for a home tutor. What does IB Gram actually provide?+

One-to-one lessons over live video, timed to Gulf Standard Time, with screen sharing so the student's own work can be annotated during the lesson. Visiting tuition is a service we run only in India, so nobody will arrive at a UAE address, and we would rather say that on the page than on the phone. For Diploma work the trade is usually favourable: instead of whoever teaches your subject within a short drive, your child works with someone who has taught that syllabus at that level and knows how the component is marked.

Does a retake in a later session make sense if the Diploma is not awarded?+

It is often the right answer, and it is a decision to make with the coordinator rather than alone. A candidate can re-sit subjects in a later session, with the registration going through the school as the examination centre, and coursework components are handled differently from papers, so the first question is which part of the grade actually failed. Weigh the university position too: some offers can be deferred and some cannot. We publish no session or results dates on this page, because IB dates could not be verified for this project, so get the calendar from your coordinator.

Is Arabic a subject my child can take as part of the Diploma itself?+

Yes, and families regularly discover in DP1 that this is a separate thing from the Arabic lesson the Ministry requires every private school to run. Arabic can be taken as a Diploma language subject at either level, assessed like any other subject on the 1 to 7 scale. The mandatory Arabic, Islamic Education and Social Studies provision is a different obligation, placed by the school, with KHDA requiring separate classes for Arab and non-Arab students and specifying the language of instruction for each. Ask the school which of the two you are actually being asked about before buying support.

Which authority should I ask about my child's school, and which about the Diploma?+

Four different bodies, four different questions. The emirate authority deals with the school: KHDA in Dubai, ADEK in Abu Dhabi and Al Ain, SPEA in Sharjah, the Department of Knowledge in Ras Al Khaimah, and the federal Ministry of Education in Ajman, Umm Al Quwain and Fujairah. The IB deals with grades, components and the award. The Ministry of Education deals with equivalency of the final certificate. MoHRE deals with whether a tutor may be paid, through the private tuition work permit introduced by Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023 and granted free of charge for two years.

My daughter is a November session candidate. Does that change anything?+

It changes the whole internal calendar, which is why it is worth saying early. The IB runs two sessions a year and most UAE schools sit the May one, so a November cohort is working to deadlines that sit out of step with the school around them, including mock timing, coursework upload windows and when university applications need predicted grades. The content and the components are the same. We will not publish session or results dates here, because no IB date could be verified for this project, so plan from the written calendar your school issues for your child's cohort.

Start with the component, not with the hours

Most families arrive asking how many hours a Diploma student needs. The better first question is which component is actually at risk, because the answer decides everything else: a leaking Paper 2 is a different purchase from a late Extended Essay, and a Standard Level sliding towards a 3 may matter more to the award than the Higher Level everyone is worrying about. Send us the school, the six subjects with levels marked, the last report and the next internal deadline. We will tell you what we think is at risk, book one free trial lesson with the specialist who would teach it, and say plainly if we think the hour is not worth buying yet.
