IB Home Tutor in City Walk

Searching for an IB home tutor in City Walk and then searching again for Al Wasl, Jumeirah 1 or Al Safa produces four different result pages and one identical answer, and this page explains why. It compares the four neighbourhoods on housing, schools and the actual size of the Diploma tutor pool inside a twenty-minute drive, sets out what the in-home premium on this corridor buys, and states plainly that IB Gram teaches these students online rather than at the door.

IB & IGCSE in City Walk

Four neighbourhoods, one shortlist

City Walk sits in an unusual position for this search. It is a low-rise, walkable district wedged between Al Wasl Road and Jumeirah, surrounded on three sides by established villa communities and on the fourth by the Downtown corridor. A parent living there who types 'IB home tutor in City Walk' will, within ten minutes, also have typed Al Wasl, Jumeirah 1 and probably Al Safa, because those are the areas the family knows and the drive between any two of them is under fifteen minutes. Four searches, four sets of results, and no way to tell whether the differences mean anything.

They do not. The reason is arithmetic rather than opinion. Dubai has 227 private schools serving 387,441 pupils, of whom roughly 7% are on International Baccalaureate programmes, and a Diploma subject at Higher Level is taught by a small number of teachers in any given part of the city. Narrow the field to people willing to drive to a specific district on a Tuesday at five o'clock and the shortlist for Higher Level chemistry or Mathematics: Analysis and Approaches drops to a handful. That handful is almost exactly the same handful whether the address is in City Walk, Al Wasl, Jumeirah 1 or Al Safa, because the four districts share a road network and therefore share a catchment.

The second thing that does not change between the four is what in-home delivery costs. Read from the cheapest end, the Dubai market starts with budget online tutoring advertised from AED 33 to 52 at Tutopiya and AED 45 to 65 at EdFlik, usually university students. Qualified subject tutors working online occupy AED 150 to 300, with Unitors publishing IGCSE from AED 150 and IB from AED 200. In-home one-to-one sits above that at AED 180 to 350 in Bestimate's 2026 Dubai rate table, with independent home tutors quoting AED 200 to 500, and specialist Diploma tutors run AED 200 to 450 and beyond, with TutorChase at AED 270 and BartyED at AED 650. The step from the online band to the in-home band is a vehicle. It is not a better lesson.

IB Gram's position is stated at the top rather than buried. Tuition for UAE families is delivered one-to-one over live video, and there are no home visits anywhere in the UAE; in-home tutoring is a service offered only in India. A City Walk family therefore gets a shortlist built from everyone who has taught the current Diploma syllabus in the subject they need, rather than from the subset who can reach Al Wasl Road before the evening traffic. That is the whole trade, and the comparison table further down puts both sides of it in the same frame so you can judge it rather than take it on trust.

What follows is the detail: the four neighbourhoods compared on the things that actually differ, what the in-home premium buys on this particular corridor, how the tutor pool narrows as the radius shrinks, which subjects have thin UAE coverage and what happens when nobody is free, how to verify that any tutor is legally permitted to teach in the UAE, and exactly what a tutor may and may not do with an Internal Assessment or an Extended Essay.

At a glance

  • City Walk, Al Wasl, Jumeirah 1 and Al Safa share one road network and one tutor catchment
  • Dubai market bands: AED 150-300 qualified online, AED 180-500 in-home with travel
  • Roughly 7% of Dubai private-school enrolment is on IB programmes
  • The MoHRE private tuition permit is free of charge and valid for two years
  • IB Gram delivers online only in the UAE; in-home visits exist only in India
IB programmes

Every IB programme stage, mapped to UAE school years

A City Walk family searching this phrase is usually at one of four points in the IB continuum, and the comparison between neighbourhoods matters differently at each. These are the four, with what the local provision actually looks like from this address.

DPAges 16-19 · Years 12-13

Diploma Programme

Six subjects at Higher or Standard Level, plus Theory of Knowledge, the Extended Essay and a service commitment. Assessment is largely external, with internal assessments carrying fixed weightings in most subjects. This is the stage where subject specialism matters most and where a proximity-based search narrows the shortlist most sharply, because a Higher Level subject is a small market.

The Diploma schools a City Walk family reaches easily sit in Al Safa, Jumeirah and Umm Suqeim rather than in City Walk itself, which has no large secondary campus. That means every Diploma student from this district commutes, and it means the local tutor pool is shared across all four surrounding neighbourhoods. Al Wasl families, Jumeirah 1 families and City Walk families are competing for the same evening slots with the same people.

MYPAges 11-16 · MYP 1-5

Middle Years Programme

Five years across eight subject groups, assessed against four criteria per subject, each out of eight, with the total of 32 converted to a level from one to seven. Support at this stage is about reading the criterion breakdown correctly rather than about content, and the diagnosis is the same wherever the family lives.

One well-known IB continuum school sits in Al Safa within a short drive of City Walk, and others are in Jumeirah and Umm Suqeim. Most campuses in this corridor are British-curriculum, so a Middle Years Programme family here is in a minority locally and will field a good deal of comparison with neighbours whose children sit Year 9 tests instead.

IGCSEAges 14-16 · Years 10-11

Year 11 qualifications before the Diploma

Cambridge or Pearson Edexcel International GCSE, taken at most of the British-curriculum schools in this corridor before students split into A Levels or the Diploma. Tiering, syllabus codes and board choice vary by school, and the content assumed at the start of a Diploma course is Extended or Higher tier.

This is the most common route into the Diploma for families in City Walk, Al Wasl and Al Safa, simply because the schools nearby are predominantly British. It also means the summer between Year 11 and Year 12 is the single most valuable support window available in this corridor, and it is the one almost nobody uses.

COREDiploma core · Years 12-13

The Diploma core: IA, Extended Essay and Theory of Knowledge

Internal assessments in each subject, a 4,000-word Extended Essay with a school supervisor, and Theory of Knowledge with a prescribed-title essay and an exhibition. All of it is the student's own work. A tutor may teach the criteria, question a research question and challenge an argument, and may not write, edit or supply any part of it.

This is the part of the Diploma where the home-tutor market in Dubai is least trustworthy and where a parent in any of these four districts should be most careful. One provider in this cluster has been documented selling completed internal assessments at AED 3,750. The risk of that purchase falls entirely on the student, and no convenience of location changes it.

Subject coverage

IB and IGCSE subjects we tutor

Proximity costs more in some subjects than in others, because the pool of teachers thins out sharply as the level rises. These are the Diploma subjects City Walk families ask for, with how scarce a genuine specialist is in a twenty-minute radius.

Mathematics: Analysis and Approaches

Higher Level and Standard Level

The most requested subject in this corridor and the one where a proximity search fails most often. Higher Level requires fluent calculus, proof and complex numbers taught at speed; a tutor comfortable with Standard Level is not automatically comfortable with Higher Level, and the distinction is invisible from a listing page. Ask which Higher Level topics they have taught in the last two years.

Mathematics: Applications and Interpretation

Higher Level and Standard Level

Statistics-led with graphing technology assumed throughout. Easier to staff locally than Analysis and Approaches because more general mathematics teachers can cover Standard Level competently. Higher Level, with its statistical inference and modelling content, is a genuinely different course and a much smaller pool.

Chemistry

Higher Level and Standard Level

Six themes across structure and reactivity, two written papers and one scientific investigation worth a fifth of the grade. Organic mechanisms are the part that needs a specialist, because the marks turn on arrow placement and conditions rather than on understanding. Very thin local availability at Higher Level in any Dubai district.

Physics

Higher Level and Standard Level

Five themes, two written papers and one investigation, with no third paper in the current course. The scarcest science locally, and the one where families most often end up with a mathematics teacher covering physics. The data-based section of Paper 1 and the uncertainty arithmetic are the specialist parts.

Biology

Higher Level and Standard Level

Better covered locally than physics or chemistry, with a large volume of recall and the same investigation criteria as the other sciences. The specialist value is in command-term discipline and in teaching the student to answer the question that was asked rather than the one they revised for.

Economics

Higher Level and Standard Level

Three internally assessed commentaries plus examinations, with Higher Level adding quantitative content. Popular in this corridor given the household mix, and reasonably well covered by tutors locally, although the commentary work is where a specialist earns the rate by teaching the criteria rather than editing the writing.

English A: Language and Literature

Higher Level and Standard Level

Paper 1 unseen analysis, Paper 2 comparative essay, an individual oral and, at Higher Level, an essay. The individual oral is the component families underestimate most. Widely available locally in principle, but the quality spread is large and a strong general English teacher is not the same as somebody who knows the assessment.

Language acquisition: French, Spanish and Arabic

Higher Level, Standard Level and ab initio

Availability depends heavily on the language and the level. Arabic at a high level is better served in Dubai than in most markets; ab initio Spanish or French at short notice in a specific evening slot is harder. Oral components need a tutor who will conduct them properly rather than discuss them.

Theory of Knowledge and the Extended Essay

Diploma core

A prescribed-title essay and an exhibition for Theory of Knowledge; a 4,000-word independent piece with a school supervisor for the Extended Essay. The scarcest thing here is not subject knowledge but somebody who will coach the process honestly and refuse to touch the writing, which is the opposite of what parts of this market sell.

How sessions run

Tutoring formats built around UAE school timetables

Three delivery shapes a City Walk family will be choosing between, two of which exist in this market and one of which IB Gram provides. The comparison is set out honestly because the decision is a real one and the costs differ.

One-to-one online, what IB Gram delivers

Live video, one-to-one, in Gulf Standard Time, with the past paper and the student's working shared on screen. The shortlist is drawn from every tutor who has taught the subject at the level needed rather than from those who can reach Al Wasl Road by five o'clock. Market rate for qualified subject tutors working this way runs AED 150 to 300 an hour.

  • Specialist matched by subject and level, not by driving distance
  • Fixed weekday slot between 16:30 and 21:30, or weekend mornings
  • A session can move by a day because no journey has to be rearranged

In-home one-to-one, what the market charges for it

Described here because it is what the search phrase means, not because IB Gram sells it. Published Dubai rates run AED 180 to 350 in Bestimate's 2026 table, with independent tutors quoting AED 200 to 500 and monthly in-home packages advertised at AED 1,599 to 1,799 for four two-hour sessions. The premium is travel time, and the shortlist shrinks to whoever will make the journey.

  • Higher published rate, with travel inside it whether itemised or not
  • Tutor pool limited to those who will drive to this corridor
  • IB Gram does not provide home visits in the UAE; that service is India-only

Group classes and tuition centres

Several centres operate within reach of this corridor and the per-hour cost is lower. Group delivery can teach content a student has not been taught, which is sometimes exactly the need. It cannot provide the individual mark-scheme diagnosis that moves a Diploma grade, because that requires somebody reading one student's own written answers each week.

  • Lower cost per hour, no individual diagnosis
  • Useful for content gaps, weak for examination technique
  • Ask how many students are in the room before comparing the rate

Intensive blocks in school holidays

Dubai's winter and spring breaks are long enough for structural work, and a student with no school day behind them can concentrate for ninety minutes. Used either to rebuild a topic properly or to bridge the Year 11 to Year 12 gap, which is the highest-value window available to families in this corridor.

  • Ninety-minute sessions where attention allows
  • Weekend and holiday mornings in Gulf Standard Time
  • Best used for the summer bridge into Year 12

What IB and IGCSE study actually looks like in City Walk

01

What a City Walk home-tutor search is actually asking

  • 'Home tutor' usually means 'someone who knows this syllabus', not 'someone nearby'
  • Specialist supply follows teachers' working lives, not residential districts
  • Both options are priced on this page so the comparison can be checked

The phrase carries two separate questions and they have different answers. The first is practical: can somebody competent teach my child, in our home, at a time that works. The second is a proxy for the first: is there anyone near us who actually knows this syllabus. Parents in this corridor type the first because it is how tutoring has worked everywhere they have lived, and they are really asking the second. Separating them is the useful move, because the answer to the second is yes and the answer to the first, from IB Gram at least, is no.

The reason the two questions come apart in Dubai is that the supply of Diploma subject specialists is not distributed the way housing is. A district like City Walk has excellent housing, good access and no secondary school inside it. The teachers who can take a Higher Level chemistry student from a 4 to a 6 live wherever they live, work full days at schools across the city, and have a limited number of evening hours. Requiring one of them to spend forty to ninety minutes in a car to reach Al Wasl Road reduces the number who can help from a reasonable list to a very short one, and the short list is not chosen for teaching quality.

This page therefore does something that most pages competing for this search do not: it compares the options in the same frame, with the published prices attached and the limitation stated. IB Gram delivers one-to-one online tuition and does not offer home visits anywhere in the UAE, because that is a service the business runs only in India. If an in-home tutor is genuinely what a family wants, the market rates further down will tell them what to expect to pay and what the premium represents, and the comparison is set out so a parent can disagree with the conclusion if they choose.

02

City Walk against Al Wasl, Jumeirah 1 and Al Safa

Four addresses, fifteen minutes apart at worst, and four separate searches. The table below sets out what actually differs between them for a family buying Diploma support, and the honest finding is that the differences sit in housing type and school run rather than in access to teaching. Al Safa has the densest school cluster and the shortest commute. Al Wasl has villas and the same cluster a minute further on. Jumeirah 1 has the oldest provision and the longest-established community. City Walk has apartments, walkability and no campus of its own.

What does not vary is the last column. The pool of teachers who can take Higher Level mathematics, physics or chemistry and who are available on a weekday evening within a twenty-minute drive is small in all four districts, and it is substantially the same small group, because the four share Al Wasl Road, Jumeirah Beach Road and Sheikh Zayed Road. A family that moves its search from City Walk to Al Safa in the hope of a longer list of in-home specialists will find the same names, some of whom will now quote a slightly lower travel premium.

There is a related point about timing that families discover late. Because all four districts draw on the same evening hours, the useful slots between 17:00 and 19:00 are contested across the whole corridor rather than within one neighbourhood. A parent booking in September gets 17:00 on a Tuesday; a parent booking in late October finds it gone and is offered 20:00, which for a Year 12 student is a session that will be attended rather than used. Online delivery does not create more hours in the evening, but it does widen the pool competing for them, which is why a late booker has better options than they would otherwise.

03

What the in-home premium buys on the Al Wasl Road corridor

Begin at the cheapest end of this market, because that is where most families start and where the misunderstanding begins. Budget online tutoring is advertised from AED 33 to 52 an hour by Tutopiya and from AED 45 to 65 by EdFlik, generally delivered by university students. That provision has a use: supervised homework, basic content and company while a student works. It is not what moves a Higher Level Diploma grade, and a family that buys it expecting mark-scheme diagnosis will conclude that tutoring does not work.

A step up, qualified subject tutors working online occupy AED 150 to 300 an hour, with Unitors publishing IGCSE work from AED 150 and IB from AED 200. Specialist IB, IGCSE and A Level tutors sit at AED 200 to 450 and above, with TutorChase listing AED 270, and the premium examiner-adjacent tier reaches AED 500 to 650, where BartyED publishes AED 650. In-home one-to-one, the thing this search phrase describes, is quoted at AED 180 to 350 in Bestimate's 2026 Dubai rate table and at AED 200 to 500 by independent home tutors. Monthly packages advertised in this market include AED 799 for eight online sessions and AED 1,599 to 1,799 for four two-hour in-home sessions.

Set those bands side by side and the in-home premium is visible as what it is. A tutor crossing from Al Barsha or Mirdif to City Walk for a one-hour lesson is committing between forty and ninety minutes of driving, and no professional prices their day without accounting for it. The money buys the journey. What it does not buy is a wider choice of teacher, better materials or a different syllabus; and in one respect it buys less, because the shortlist is now limited to people for whom that journey is worth making. The table sets out the four options a City Walk family is really choosing between, including what each one includes.

Why the shortlist narrows as the radius shrinks

  • IB programmes are about 7% of Dubai private-school enrolment; British curriculum is 37%
  • Subject, level, hour and location are four multiplying constraints
  • Only the location constraint can be removed without an academic cost
  • Ask any provider how many tutors cover your subject at your hour

This is the mechanism behind everything above, and it is worth setting out because it is checkable rather than rhetorical. Dubai's private sector had 387,441 pupils in 227 schools in 2024-25, with International Baccalaureate programmes accounting for about 7% of enrolment against 37% British curriculum. A Diploma Higher Level subject is therefore a minority product inside a minority curriculum. The number of people in the emirate who have taught Higher Level physics in the last two years is small; the number who are free at 17:30 on a Tuesday is smaller; and the number of those who will drive to City Walk is smaller again.

Each constraint multiplies rather than adds. A requirement for a specific subject at a specific level cuts the pool hard. A requirement for a specific weekday hour cuts what remains. A requirement for physical presence in a particular district cuts it again, and that third cut is the only one a family can remove without compromising on anything academic. Removing it is what online delivery does. The other two constraints stay, which is why this page also publishes what happens when even the online pool cannot cover a request, rather than implying that supply is infinite.

The practical test for any provider is to ask the question in reverse. Instead of asking whether they cover City Walk, ask how many tutors on their books have taught Higher Level chemistry in the last two academic years and are free between 17:00 and 19:00 Gulf Standard Time. A provider drawing on the whole country can answer that; a provider drawing on a twenty-minute radius will change the subject. The answer tells a parent considerably more than a list of neighbourhoods on a landing page, and it works equally well on us.

05

Subject coverage from this corridor, and what happens when nobody is free

No competitor page found in this cluster publishes a coverage limit, and several conceal non-UAE delivery behind an overseas telephone number. The honest position is that availability varies sharply by subject and level, and a family is better served by knowing that before they pay than by discovering it in February. The table below sets out, by subject and level, how quickly a match is realistic, how thin in-home coverage is in this corridor, and what the fallback is when the first choice is not available.

Two patterns are worth stating in words. Higher Level sciences and Higher Level Mathematics: Analysis and Approaches are the tight spots everywhere in the UAE, not just here, and a request for one of them in a narrow weekday window may take a week or more to fill properly. Language acquisition at ab initio level and the less common languages are similarly thin. Standard Level sciences, both mathematics courses at Standard Level, English A and economics are comfortable, and a match in two or three days is normal.

When the first choice is not available, there are three honest options and we name which one applies rather than quietly substituting. A different hour with the right specialist is usually the best outcome and the one families resist most. A different tutor whose specialism is adjacent, for instance a Standard Level physics specialist taking a Standard Level student while a Higher Level slot is waited for, is workable with the limitation stated. A short wait is sometimes simply correct. What we will not do is place a generalist in a Higher Level slot and let the family find out at the mock, which is the outcome that does the most damage and the one a proximity-driven search produces most often.

Is your tutor legally permitted to teach in the UAE?

Only one competitor page in the researched set touches licensing at all, and it does so in a single subheading. This is the single most useful thing a parent in City Walk can check, it takes one question, and it applies to every provider including this one. Private tutoring in the UAE is regulated by permit: the Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation introduced the private tuition work permit under Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023. The permit is granted free of charge for two years, and MoHRE's own service is named 'Issuance of a New Work Permit - Private Tutor Licensing', applied for through the ministry's smart app, website and e-services system, with a two-working-day completion time listed.

Eligibility is broader than most parents assume. Teachers registered in government or private schools, employees in the government and private sectors, unemployed individuals, school students aged 15 to 18 and university students may all apply. There are conditions attached: the permit carries a code of conduct, and in Abu Dhabi ADEK's professional-ethics rules for private and charter school staff prohibit teachers from giving paid private tuition to students enrolled at their own school. That particular rule is press-reported and worth verifying against the current ADEK policy document, but the principle is sound everywhere in the UAE and we do not arrange a teacher to tutor their own pupils privately.

Individuals offering private tutoring without a permit from MoHRE are subject to fines and penalties outlined in the applicable laws. No schedule of amounts has been published; a figure circulating online could not be verified, so none is quoted here. Separately, a tutoring operation with premises and staff in Dubai is a different legal animal from an individual tutor and needs a KHDA educational services permit for a training institute, with initial approval first and annual renewal. IB Gram does not hold one, does not operate premises in the UAE, and is not approved, accredited or licensed by KHDA, ADEK, SPEA, the Ministry of Education, the IB organisation, Cambridge or Pearson.

What a tutor may and may not do with an IA, Extended Essay or TOK essay

  • Internal assessments carry roughly a fifth of the grade in most Diploma sciences
  • A tutor teaches criteria and questions reasoning; the student writes every word
  • Extended Essay supervision is a school role and cannot be outsourced
  • Completed-coursework services put the student's diploma at risk, not the seller's

This is where the Dubai home-tutor market is least safe, and the risk does not change with the delivery format. Internal assessments carry fixed weightings across Diploma subjects, usually around a fifth of the grade in the sciences, and the Extended Essay and Theory of Knowledge carry points of their own. That concentration of marks in independently produced work has attracted providers who sell the work rather than the teaching. One in this cluster has been documented offering completed internal assessments at AED 3,750.

The boundary is not ambiguous and we state it rather than leaving it to be inferred. A tutor may teach what each assessment criterion rewards and what the descriptors mean. A tutor may question whether a research question is answerable with the data or sources it would generate, press on whether a conclusion follows from the evidence, point out that an evaluation has identified nothing systematic, and explain word and page limits and referencing conventions. A tutor may not write, edit, restructure or supply any part of the document, may not choose the research question, and may not produce the analysis or the argument.

Parents sometimes ask whether a tutor can supervise the Extended Essay instead of the school. They cannot, and the question is worth answering directly. Supervision is a school role: the supervisor is allocated by the school, holds the formal meetings, signs the declaration and is part of the authentication process. An external tutor sits outside that and can only coach. The useful division of labour is that the school supervises and authenticates while a tutor teaches the subject content and the assessment criteria, and both of those are legitimate at once. Where a provider offers to be the supervisor, something is being misdescribed.

08

Starting from City Walk, with the limits stated

  • Send school, year, subject, level and two genuinely free evening windows
  • First 55-minute lesson at no charge, no card details taken
  • Online only in the UAE; in-home visits are India-only
  • Coverage gaps and timing limits named before any payment

The practical sequence is short. Tell us the school, the year group, the subject and level, and the two evening windows that are genuinely free once the return journey from Al Safa, Jumeirah or Umm Suqeim is accounted for. We shortlist tutors who have taught that subject at that level and who can take one of those windows, and the first fifty-five-minute lesson carries no charge with no card details taken. After it you get a short written note saying what kind of problem this is and what it will take to shift, including the possibility that it does not need paid tutoring at all.

The limits, in one place. Lessons are delivered online over live video, one-to-one, in Gulf Standard Time; IB Gram does not provide home visits anywhere in the UAE, and in-home tutoring is a service offered only in India. There is no IB Gram office, centre or branch in the emirate. Higher Level sciences and Higher Level Analysis and Approaches may take up to a week to fill in a narrow weekday window, and when that is the case we will say so and name the alternative. No tutor can guarantee a grade, a point total or a university place, because the boards mark the papers and set the boundaries afterwards.

One more thing, which is the reason a comparison page is more useful than a sales page. If after the free lesson the tutor's view is that your child needs a timer, a mark scheme and six weeks of discipline rather than a weekly session, the note will say that and nobody will follow up with a package. The published rates above exist so that a City Walk family can decide between options on the numbers, and the coverage table exists so that the decision is made with the constraints visible. Both of those make a sale less likely in some cases, which is the point of publishing them.

Where we tutor

City Walk and the districts it is constantly compared with

These are the neighbourhoods a City Walk family will search alongside their own, and what each one genuinely offers that the others do not. The honest summary is that the differences are about housing and commute rather than about access to teaching.

City Walk

Low-rise apartments and townhouses, walkable, with no large secondary campus inside the district. Every secondary student commutes, mostly west into Al Safa and Jumeirah or north into Downtown. Short internal distances make a 17:00 session feasible once the school run is accounted for.

Al Wasl

Villas and compounds along Al Wasl Road, immediately adjacent. Families here sit closest to the Al Safa school cluster and have the shortest school run in this group, which is the only material advantage over City Walk. The tutor catchment is identical, because it is the same road.

Jumeirah 1

Established villa district running to the coast, with several long-standing British-curriculum schools and one IB continuum campus within a few minutes. The oldest school provision in this corridor and the strongest argument for staying put, but no additional local tutor supply at Higher Level.

Al Safa

The densest school cluster in the group, with British-curriculum and IB provision side by side. A family living here has the shortest commute of all four and will still find that Higher Level physics and chemistry are taught by a very small number of people within a twenty-minute drive.

Jumeirah 2 and Jumeirah 3

Further west along the coast, quieter, with primary provision close by and secondary options a slightly longer run. Widening the search here adds housing options and does not add tutors, because the same teachers already serve the whole corridor.

Umm Suqeim

Beyond Jumeirah 3, with two substantial campuses including an IB continuum school. This is where a City Walk Diploma student may be travelling to every morning, which makes the afternoon return the binding constraint on weekday session timing.

La Mer and Pearl Jumeira

Coastal, newer and residential rather than institutional, with no secondary schools of their own. Families here face the same pattern as City Walk: a commute out, a shared tutor catchment, and evening slots competing with three neighbouring districts.

Downtown Dubai and Business Bay

North across Al Wasl Road and Sheikh Zayed Road, dense and school-free at secondary level. Included because it is the fourth direction a City Walk family searches, and because it demonstrates the point: the pool is the city's, not the district's.

School ecosystem

IB and Cambridge school communities we support in City Walk

Al Safa and Al Wasl campuses, the shortest run from City Walk

This cluster is why the four districts in this comparison behave as one catchment. The schools sit between them, families from all four attend, and the tutors who serve those families serve all four equally. Confirm current programmes with each school rather than with any tutoring site.

  • Jumeirah English Speaking School, Al Safa
  • Jumeirah College, Al Safa
  • Horizon English School, Al Safa
  • Safa British School
  • Jumeira Baccalaureate School, Al Safa
  • Latifa School for Girls

Jumeirah, Umm Suqeim and Al Barsha campuses, a longer return leg

The second ring, reached in fifteen to thirty minutes depending on the hour. Diploma provision here is substantial, and students from City Walk travel to it daily. The longer afternoon journey is the main reason weekday sessions for this group start at 17:30 rather than 17:00.

  • Emirates International School Jumeirah
  • Raffles World Academy, Umm Suqeim
  • Kings' School Dubai, Umm Suqeim
  • Dubai English Speaking College
  • Kings' School Al Barsha
  • Swiss International Scientific School Dubai

Named schools provide context for the City Walk catchment and the programmes available nearby. IB Gram claims no affiliation with, endorsement from or partnership with any of them.

How matching works

From first enquiry to a tutor who fits

  1. 01

Name the subject and the level, not just the programme

'IB help' is not a brief that can be matched. Higher Level chemistry, Standard Level Analysis and Approaches or Theory of Knowledge are. Add the school and the year group, because the school's own topic sequence determines what the first sessions should cover and Dubai campuses differ widely in the order they teach.

  2. 02

Give us two real evening windows

Not a preference, two windows that survive the return journey from Al Safa, Jumeirah or Umm Suqeim and whatever sport or music already occupies the week. Slots between 17:00 and 19:00 in this corridor are contested across four districts, so naming the real windows early is the difference between a good slot and a late one.

  3. 03

A free diagnostic lesson of 55 minutes

No charge, no card details. The tutor works through recent class material and one unfamiliar past-paper question, watching the working rather than the answers, and writes a short note classifying the problem. The note sometimes says that paid sessions are not the right purchase, and that is a legitimate outcome.

  4. 04

A written rate and a coverage position

You get the rate per session before anything is booked, and a straight answer on availability: matched now, matched within a week, or not coverable in that window with the alternatives named. Nothing is bundled, and no discount is conditional on committing to a term in advance.

  5. 05

Weekly sessions, written notes, and a review at the mock

Each session ends with two named priorities and specific past-paper questions. January and March mocks are the honest checkpoint: the marked paper is categorised by loss type and the plan continues, changes or stops. A plan that winds down because it worked is the intended outcome.

Why families choose us

What UAE parents tell us matters most

A comparison rather than a claim

This page publishes in-home market rates alongside online ones, names the companies that published them, and sets out what the premium represents. A family can read it and decide that in-home delivery is still what they want, in which case they now know what to pay. Three of the six researched competitors in this cluster publish no price at all.

The shortlist built from the whole country

Subject, level and hour are real constraints. Location does not have to be. Removing it is the only one of the four that costs nothing academically, and it is what lets a City Walk family consider every tutor who has taught Higher Level chemistry rather than the two who will drive to Al Wasl Road.

Coverage limits published

Higher Level sciences, Higher Level Analysis and Approaches and ab initio languages are thin, and the table on this page says so by subject with realistic match times. No competitor in the researched set discloses a coverage limit anywhere, and several route UAE parents to overseas telephone numbers instead.

The permit question answered properly

The MoHRE private tuition permit, its two-year validity, its absence of a fee, the official application route and the categories eligible for it are all set out here so a parent can verify any tutor from any provider. We also state what IB Gram is not: not accredited by any regulator or board, and holding no UAE premises.

The coursework line drawn in public

Criteria taught, research questions interrogated, reasoning challenged, nothing written or edited. Extended Essay supervision is a school role and we say so. The parts of this market selling completed internal assessments are charging a premium for a risk the student carries alone.

Sessions that move without rearranging a journey

A school trip, a swimming gala or a family trip moves the lesson rather than cancelling it, because nobody has to be redirected across the city. Over a thirty-week year that difference is several sessions, which is a more significant saving than most hourly-rate negotiations produce.

Questions parents ask

IB and IGCSE tutoring in City Walk: your questions answered

Is there an IB home tutor in City Walk who will teach in the apartment itself?+

There are tutors in this market who make in-home visits, and published Dubai rates for them run AED 180 to 350 in Bestimate's 2026 table with independent home tutors quoting AED 200 to 500. IB Gram is not one of them: we do not provide home visits anywhere in the UAE, and in-home tutoring is a service offered only in India. What we deliver to a City Walk address is one-to-one teaching over live video in Gulf Standard Time, with the shortlist drawn from everyone who has taught the subject at the level needed rather than from those willing to drive to Al Wasl Road on a weekday evening.

Does widening the search from City Walk to Jumeirah 2 or La Mer add any tutors?+

No, and the reason is structural. Those districts sit on the same road network and share the same school cluster in Al Safa, Jumeirah and Umm Suqeim, so they draw on the same group of teachers. What widening the search changes is the travel premium quoted, because a tutor coming from Al Barsha will price a journey to Al Safa slightly lower than one to La Mer. The pool of people who have taught Higher Level physics or chemistry within reach does not grow. That pool only grows when the requirement to be physically present is dropped.

What does the in-home premium on the Al Wasl Road corridor actually pay for?+

A journey. Published Dubai in-home rates of AED 180 to 500 an hour sit above the AED 150 to 300 band for qualified subject tutors working online, and the difference is forty to ninety minutes of driving that no professional prices out of their day. It does not buy better materials, a different syllabus or a more qualified teacher. In one respect it buys less, because the shortlist narrows to those for whom the journey is worth making, and that criterion has nothing to do with how well somebody teaches the Diploma.

Over a Diploma year, which works out cheaper: an in-home tutor or an online specialist?+

Online, on the published figures. Bestimate's Dubai monthly estimates for a weekly one-hour session are AED 600 to 1,200 mid-market and AED 1,000 to 2,000 or more for specialist exam-year work, while advertised in-home monthly packages in this market run AED 1,599 to 1,799 for four two-hour sessions. There is also a hidden saving: an online session reschedules when a school trip or a family trip intervenes, whereas an in-home slot usually cancels. Across thirty weeks that is several sessions kept, which is worth more than most rate negotiations achieve.

How large is the pool of Higher Level Diploma tutors within a twenty-minute drive of City Walk?+

Small, and smaller than families expect. Dubai had 387,441 private-school pupils across 227 schools in 2024-25, with International Baccalaureate programmes at roughly 7% of enrolment against 37% British curriculum. A Higher Level subject is therefore a minority product inside a minority curriculum. Filter for people free at a specific weekday hour and willing to drive to this corridor, and Higher Level physics or chemistry comes down to a handful. The practical test for any provider is to ask how many of their tutors have taught your subject at your level in the last two academic years.

Does a City Walk address limit which IB subjects we can get support in?+

Not for online delivery, but availability still varies by subject and level and we publish where it is thin. Higher Level sciences and Higher Level Mathematics: Analysis and Approaches can take up to a week to fill in a narrow weekday window. Ab initio languages and the less commonly taught languages are similarly tight. Standard Level sciences, both mathematics courses at Standard Level, English A, economics and history are comfortable, with a match usually possible in two or three days. The constraint is the specialist's calendar rather than your postcode.

What happens if the subject we need has no UAE-based specialist free?+

We tell you, and name which of three options applies. A different hour with the right specialist is usually the best outcome and the one families resist most. A tutor whose specialism is adjacent, with the limitation stated openly, is workable for some situations. A short wait is sometimes simply the correct answer. What we will not do is place a generalist into a Higher Level slot and let the family discover it at the January mock. No competitor page in the researched set publishes a coverage limit at all, which is why this one is written down and can be held against us.

How do we check that a private tutor in Dubai holds a valid permit?+

Ask to see it, and ask who issued it. Private tuition in the UAE requires a work permit from the Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation, introduced under Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023 and granted free of charge for two years. MoHRE's service is called 'Issuance of a New Work Permit - Private Tutor Licensing' and runs through the ministry's app, website and e-services system. Teachers, public and private sector employees, unemployed residents, university students and school students aged 15 to 18 are all eligible. Tutoring without one exposes the individual to fines and penalties under the applicable laws, and no schedule of amounts has been published.

Can one tutor work with two children in the same City Walk household?+

Yes, with a caveat worth stating. Two children in different year groups should have separate sessions, because the content, the pace and the assessment are different and a shared hour becomes supervision rather than teaching. Two children in the same subject and year can share, and some families prefer it, but the individual mark-scheme diagnosis that moves a grade is diluted immediately: one child's habitual error is not the other's. Where a family wants both, the usual arrangement is two separate shorter sessions with the same tutor on the same evening, which online delivery makes trivial to schedule.

What may a tutor legitimately do with an Internal Assessment?+

Teach the criteria, explain what the descriptors mean, question whether a research question can be answered with the data or sources it would generate, challenge whether a conclusion follows from the evidence, point out that an evaluation has identified nothing systematic, and explain word limits and referencing. What a tutor may not do is write, edit, restructure or supply any part of the document, choose the research question, or produce the analysis. Internal assessments carry roughly a fifth of the grade in most Diploma sciences, which is exactly why parts of this market sell the work rather than the teaching. The student carries that risk, not the seller.

Can a tutor supervise the Extended Essay instead of the school?+

No. Supervision is a school role: the supervisor is allocated by the school, holds the formal reflection meetings, signs the declaration and forms part of the authentication process. An external tutor sits entirely outside that and can only coach. The workable division is that the school supervises and authenticates while a tutor teaches the subject content and the assessment criteria, which are both legitimate at the same time. If any provider offers to act as the supervisor, something is being misdescribed and it is worth asking the school's Diploma coordinator before going further.

Is a group class at a tuition centre near Jumeirah a reasonable substitute?+

For some needs, yes. A group can deliver content a student has genuinely not been taught, which happens after a staff absence or a mid-year move, and the cost per hour is lower. What it cannot deliver is the thing that shifts a Diploma grade in the final year, which is somebody reading one student's own written answers each week and naming the specific habit costing them marks. Those habits are individual. Ask how many students will be in the room before comparing rates, and use groups for content gaps rather than for examination technique.

How long does it take to start if we decide in the middle of term?+

For Standard Level subjects, English A, economics or history, two or three days is normal. For Higher Level sciences or Higher Level Analysis and Approaches in a narrow weekday window, allow up to a week, and expect the first offer to be an hour you had not planned on. Mid-term starts in this corridor are harder than September ones for a specific reason: the 17:00 to 19:00 slots are contested across City Walk, Al Wasl, Jumeirah and Al Safa simultaneously. Being flexible about the hour by thirty minutes typically converts a week's wait into two days.

Do lessons pause during Dubai school holidays and family travel?+

They pause if you want them to and often should not. Dubai's winter and spring breaks are long enough for structural work, and a student with no school day behind them can concentrate for ninety minutes rather than fifty-five, which makes holiday blocks the most productive sessions of the year. Family travel is handled by moving the slot rather than cancelling it, since a time-zone change is a scheduling question rather than a logistical one. The one break worth taking in full is the fortnight immediately after the final papers.

What would make you tell us not to buy tutoring at all?+

Several things, and the diagnostic lesson exists partly to find them. A student already at a 6 who is losing marks to carelessness under time pressure needs a timer and a mark scheme, not a weekly session. A student whose school already runs clinics and past-paper marking for the subject may simply not be using them. A student three weeks from the final papers with a foundational gap cannot be rescued by hours and is better served by triage on two topics. In each of those cases the written note after the free lesson says so, and nobody follows up with a package.

Compare the options on the numbers, then decide

Send the school, the year group, the subject and level, and two evening windows that genuinely survive the return journey from Al Safa, Jumeirah or Umm Suqeim. You will get a written rate per session, a straight answer on whether that subject and hour can be covered now or within a week, and a free 55-minute diagnostic lesson with no card details taken. The rates on this page belong to the companies that published them, and they are here so a City Walk family can weigh in-home against online themselves rather than taking anyone's word for the comparison. If the honest answer after the first lesson is that no paid sessions are needed, the note will say exactly that.
