IB Tutor near me in City Walk

Searching for an IB tutor near me in City Walk usually means one thing: your child has a specific syllabus problem, and the school timetable is not going to solve it. This page is written from the syllabus outwards. It names the papers, the command terms, the criteria letters and the places marks leak away, then explains how IB Gram matches a City Walk family with a specialist for that exact component over live video on Gulf Standard Time.

  • Live one-to-one video lessons timed to Gulf Standard Time, never a home visit
  • Every AED figure here is an attributed market rate, not an IB Gram price list
  • Tutors give feedback on your child's own IA work and never write any of it

IB & IGCSE in City Walk

What a City Walk parent is really asking when they search for an IB tutor

An IB tutor near me in City Walk is rarely a general request. By the time a parent types it, something specific has happened. A mock Paper 2 came back three marks under the predicted grade. A Biology internal assessment draft was returned with a comment about the research question being too broad to generate a trend. A Maths Analysis and Approaches student has stopped being able to do Topic 5 calculus questions that they could do in December. The search looks generic. The problem never is.

That is the reason this page is built from the syllabus rather than from the neighbourhood. City Walk sits on the Al Safa and Al Wasl Road side of Jumeirah, a short drive from Jumeirah College, Jumeirah Baccalaureate School, Safa British School and Horizon English School, and within twenty minutes of most of the Diploma-running schools between Al Sufouh and Al Barsha. Families here have no shortage of schools. What they are short of is somebody who knows what a 4-mark Physics explain question wants in the second sentence, or which criterion a Chemistry investigation is losing its marks under.

The IB Diploma is assessed in a way that rewards that kind of precision and punishes its absence. Every subject splits into external papers and at least one internally assessed component, and the internal piece is worth a fifth to a quarter of the final grade in most subjects. Those marks are available months before the examination hall. They are also the marks most commonly thrown away, because an internal assessment is marked against published criteria that most students have never read in full and most parents have never seen at all.

IB Gram delivers all of this as one-to-one tuition over live video. There is no tutor arriving at a City Walk address: home visits are a service IB Gram runs in India only, and that is stated on every country page on this site. What a City Walk family gets instead is a specialist for the actual component. If your child needs Chemistry Higher Level with real fluency in the Reactivity 3 mechanisms, the match is a chemist who teaches that, not whoever happens to live close enough to Al Wasl Road to drive over by four o'clock.

The rest of this page does four things. It sets out the assessment architecture of the Diploma so you can see where the marks sit. It names the places those marks are lost, subject group by subject group. It publishes what the Dubai tutoring market actually charges in AED, with the source for each band, because most pages competing for this search publish no price at all. And it draws the line on academic honesty, which matters more in the IB than in any other curriculum your child could be sitting.

IB programmes

Every IB programme stage, mapped to UAE school years

City Walk children are spread across the full IB continuum, from Primary Years classrooms a few minutes away to Diploma cohorts sitting their final papers. The three programmes assess in entirely different ways, so the tutoring problem changes shape as a child moves up.

PYPAges 3-12 · Pre-K to Year 6

Primary Years Programme

The PYP has no external examinations. Learning is organised into transdisciplinary units of inquiry, and the exit point is the Year 6 exhibition, a long collaborative inquiry presented to the school community. Assessment is continuous, evidence-based and reported against learner-profile attributes rather than percentages, which is why PYP reports read so differently from the British or Indian reports a family may be used to.

In Dubai the PYP sits alongside KHDA's mandatory subjects. Arabic, Islamic Education and Social Studies are compulsory in every Dubai private school whatever the licensed curriculum, and KHDA requires separate classes for Arab and non-Arab students in Arabic as a first language, Islamic Education and Social Studies, with combined classes expressly prohibited. For a City Walk family that means two parallel reporting systems from Year 1 onwards.

MYPAges 11-16 · Years 7-11

Middle Years Programme

The MYP marks every subject against four criteria lettered A to D, each scored out of 8, converted to a 1-7 grade by published boundaries. Mathematics marks Knowing and understanding, Investigating patterns, Communicating, and Applying mathematics in real-life contexts. Sciences mark Knowing and understanding, Inquiring and designing, Processing and evaluating, and Reflecting on the impacts of science. A student can know the content and still score 4 if they cannot write to the criterion.

Several schools within reach of City Walk run MYP Years 4 and 5 as an alternative to IGCSE, which creates a specific Dubai dilemma: the MYP produces no externally recognised certificate at 16 unless the school enters students for eAssessment. Families planning a move abroad, or a switch to A Levels, should ask the school directly which exit qualification their Year 11 cohort actually holds.

DPAges 16-19 · Years 12-13

Diploma Programme

Six subjects, three at Higher Level and three at Standard Level, plus Theory of Knowledge, the Extended Essay and Creativity, Activity, Service. Subjects are graded 1-7 for a maximum of 42 points, with up to 3 further points from the TOK and Extended Essay matrix, giving the familiar 45. The core is where many Dubai students lose points they assumed were safe, because the TOK exhibition and the Extended Essay are long-horizon tasks with no weekly homework rhythm to carry them.

Dubai Diploma students sit the May session, which is the session UAE schools are built around. Confirm every date with your school's IB coordinator rather than a tutoring page: the IB revises its assessment calendar, and no date in this project has been verified against ibo.org directly. What does not change is that internal deadlines at a Dubai school fall months before the external window.

CPAges 16-19 · Years 12-13

Career-related Programme

The CP combines two or more DP courses with a career-related study, a reflective project, a service-learning requirement, personal and professional skills, and a language development portfolio. It is far less common than the Diploma in Dubai, but a handful of schools offer it to students who want DP-level rigour in two or three subjects without carrying six.

Because the CP is rare locally, tutoring demand for it is thin and schools rarely have in-house specialists for the career-related component. Online matching is the practical route: a CP student in City Walk needing DP Business Management alongside a reflective project will not find that combination within driving distance.

Subject coverage

IB and IGCSE subjects we tutor

These are the Diploma subjects City Walk families ask for most often, with the component that usually triggers the request. Levels are given as the school offers them; what matters for tutoring is which paper or criterion is bleeding marks.

Mathematics: Analysis and Approaches

HL and SL

Paper 1 is sat without a calculator, which is where most of the damage happens: algebraic fluency that a graphing display calculator has been hiding collapses under exam conditions. Topic 5 calculus and Topic 1 proof carry the heaviest Higher Level marks and reward written argument, not just a correct final line.

Mathematics: Applications and Interpretation

HL and SL

Every paper is calculator-permitted, so marks move to modelling, interpretation and statistical reasoning. Students lose marks by giving an unrounded answer with no units, or by reporting a correlation coefficient without saying what it means for the context in the question stem.

Physics

HL and SL

The 2023 syllabus organises content into themes A to E, from space, time and motion through to nuclear and quantum physics. Paper 1 mixes multiple choice with a data-based section; Paper 2 is extended response. Explain questions want a causal chain, and a student who writes the conclusion without the mechanism scores one of four.

Chemistry

HL and SL

Structure and Reactivity replaced the old topic numbering. Reactivity 3 mechanisms, equilibrium and energetics generate most Higher Level requests. The data booklet is supplied in the examination, so recall of constants earns nothing; using the right value from it under time pressure earns a great deal.

Biology

HL and SL

The concept-based syllabus runs on the unity and diversity, and form and function, axes. Students who revise by topic list rather than by concept struggle with synthesis questions that cross themes. Statistics in the internal assessment is the single most common source of lost criterion marks.

English A: Language and Literature

HL and SL

Paper 1 is unseen textual analysis under time, Paper 2 a comparative essay on studied works, and the Individual Oral is internally assessed on a global issue through one literary and one non-literary extract. Weak Individual Oral marks almost always come from an unfocused global issue rather than from weak reading.

Economics

HL and SL

The internal assessment is a portfolio of three commentaries, each on a published news article and each tied to a different unit of the syllabus. Students lose marks for diagrams that are not referenced in the text, and for commentaries written about an article older than the permitted window.

Business Management

HL and SL

The Higher Level internal assessment is a research project on a real organisation using primary research; Standard Level writes a commentary from supplied secondary sources. The usual failure is a research question too broad to answer in the word limit, which caps the evaluation criterion before a word is written.

Psychology

HL and SL

The internal assessment is a replication of a simple published experiment with a full statistical treatment. Students who choose a study they cannot ethically or practically replicate in a Dubai school lose criterion marks on exploration and analysis that no amount of essay polish recovers.

Theory of Knowledge

Core

TOK is assessed by an exhibition of three objects answering an IA prompt, and a 1,600-word essay on a prescribed title. It contributes up to three points with the Extended Essay. Most point losses come from objects described rather than justified against the prompt.

Extended Essay

Core

A 4,000-word independent research piece in a chosen subject, with a reflection record completed with a supervisor. The commonest cap is a question that is descriptive rather than arguable. Tutors coach the research process and give feedback; the writing is the student's own, without exception.

Arabic

A and B, plus KHDA mandatory streams

Arabic runs as a Diploma language option and separately as a KHDA mandatory subject with its own requirements. KHDA requires that teachers of Arabic and Islamic Education hold appropriate KHDA approval to teach those subjects, and that mandatory-subject content follows the Ministry of Education material without unapproved additions.

How sessions run

Tutoring formats built around UAE school timetables

Three shapes of support cover almost every request that arrives from City Walk. All three run over live video with a shared whiteboard, screen sharing and the student working on screen rather than watching.

Weekly one-to-one on a single component

The default for a student who is broadly coping but losing marks in one place. A 60-minute slot each week on, say, Physics Paper 2 extended response, with past-paper work set between sessions and marked against the published mark scheme rather than against a general impression of quality.

  • One subject, one named tutor, same weekday slot each week
  • Written feedback against the actual command term and mark allocation
  • Work set between lessons is marked, not just assigned
  • Re-matched at no charge if the pairing is not right after the first lesson

Internal assessment and core supervision

A short block of sessions timed to the school's internal deadlines for an internal assessment, the Extended Essay or the TOK exhibition. The tutor teaches the criteria, questions the research design and gives feedback on the student's own drafts. The tutor does not write, rewrite or edit the work to completion, and will say so to the student.

  • Criterion-by-criterion walkthrough before the first draft exists
  • Research question stress-tested for scope and for data availability
  • Feedback on the student's own draft, in the student's own file
  • Clear record of what was discussed, for the school's academic-honesty form

Intensive block before mocks or the May session

A compressed run of two or three sessions a week over a fixed number of weeks, built backwards from a date. Used most often in the eight weeks before mock examinations and again in the run-up to the final papers, with a diagnostic past paper first so the hours go where the marks are.

  • Starts with a timed diagnostic paper marked to the scheme
  • Hours allocated by topic weighting, not by syllabus order
  • Evening slots on Gulf Standard Time, shifted after Iftar during Ramadan
  • Pauses during the school's own study-leave period if that is what helps

What IB and IGCSE study actually looks like in City Walk

01

Where the marks actually sit in the IB Diploma

A Diploma grade is a sum of components, and the components are not equal. Most subjects split roughly four-fifths externally examined and one-fifth internally assessed, though the internal share rises in subjects with a substantial practical or performance element. Understanding that split is the difference between revising hard and revising where the marks are.

The internal piece deserves particular attention from a City Walk parent because it is the only part of the grade that can be influenced calmly, months in advance, with feedback loops. External papers are a one-shot event in a hall. An internal assessment is a document that passes between student and teacher several times before it is marked. A student who understands the criteria by letter on the first draft is working with the grading system; a student who writes first and reads the criteria afterwards is working against it.

The table below sets out the shape of the assessment across the subject groups City Walk families ask about most. Weightings are the published structure as schools currently teach them, and your child's subject teacher or IB coordinator is the authority for the current version: the IB revises subject guides on a rolling cycle, and the 2023 science guides changed the paper structure substantially from what an older sibling would have sat.

Read the final column first. It is the one that tells you what a tutor can realistically change in a term, and it is the question most tutoring enquiries are actually asking without saying so.

The command terms that decide a four-mark answer

  • State and outline want recall with no justification; evaluate wants a judgement with criteria
  • Analyse expects the parts and their relationship, not a description of the whole
  • To what extent requires an explicit degree, not a balanced list with no verdict
  • Compare and contrast needs both similarities and differences, or half the marks are gone
  • Justify demands reasons for a choice already made, not a fresh exploration of options

IB papers are written in a controlled vocabulary. State, outline, describe, explain, analyse, evaluate, discuss, justify, compare and contrast, to what extent: each has a defined meaning in the subject guide, and each implies a shape of answer and a number of marks. A student who answers every question with everything they know is guaranteed to lose marks on the low-tariff questions and run out of time before the high-tariff ones.

This is the most mechanical improvement available in Diploma tutoring, and the fastest. A Physics student who writes four sentences of mechanism for an explain question and one sentence for a state question is not being more thorough than a student who does it the other way round; they are answering the paper. In practice a specialist can get a student to read command terms properly in two or three sessions, and the mark gain shows up in the next timed paper rather than in a year's time.

The second mechanical gain is mark-per-minute arithmetic. If a Paper 2 carries 95 marks in 135 minutes, that is roughly 1.4 minutes a mark, and a six-mark question that has taken fifteen minutes has already cost marks elsewhere whatever it scores. Students almost never do this calculation. Tutors who teach examination technique do it in the first session and then enforce it with a timer.

A tutor working this way asks for the actual mark scheme wording, not a textbook explanation. The mark scheme is the specification for the answer, and reading it alongside a student's own script is the single most useful hour available in a Diploma year.

03

Internal assessment criteria, by letter, and where they leak

Every IB internal assessment is marked against lettered criteria with published descriptors and a fixed maximum for each. The letters differ by subject, but the pattern does not: there is always a criterion for framing the task, one or two for the technical work, and one for communication or evaluation. The framing criterion is worth the fewest marks and controls the most, because a weak research question caps the technical criteria no matter how well the work is executed.

The commonest pattern in Dubai schools is a student who produces a technically competent piece against a question that was never going to generate a result. A Biology investigation with no measurable trend cannot score highly on analysis or conclusion, however careful the method. A Mathematics exploration that restates textbook content has nothing to reflect on, so the reflection criterion closes. A Business Management project on a company that will not answer an email cannot do primary research, which is the Higher Level requirement.

That is why internal assessment support has to start before the first draft. A tutor's most valuable contribution is an hour spent interrogating the question: can this be measured, with what, over what range, and what will the data look like if the hypothesis is wrong. Once there is a draft, the ceiling is already set. The work after that is recovering communication marks, which are real but small.

IB Gram tutors teach the criteria, question the design and give written feedback on the student's own drafts. They do not write, co-write, rewrite or polish the work to completion. That boundary is stated to the student in the first session, and it exists because crossing it puts the student's entire Diploma at risk, not because of a policy preference.

What IB tutoring costs in the Dubai market, and who charges it

Begin with the monthly figure, because that is the number a household budget deals with. Bestimate's Tutoring Cost Dubai 2026 rate table puts a weekly one-hour arrangement at roughly AED 240-600 a month for budget tutoring, AED 600-1,200 for mid-range, and AED 1,000-2,000 or more for specialist exam-year work. Packaged offers in the market sit near those edges: online packages around AED 799 a month for eight sessions, in-home packages around AED 1,599-1,799 a month for four two-hour visits.

Convert that back to an hourly band and the market separates into tiers by who is teaching. University-student and budget online tutoring is advertised from AED 45-150, with EdFlik listing from AED 45-65 and Tutopiya from AED 33-52. A qualified subject tutor working online sits roughly AED 150-300, with Unitors publishing IGCSE from AED 150 and IB from AED 200. An IB or IGCSE specialist runs AED 200-450 and above, with TutorChase publishing AED 270 and Bestimate reporting AED 200-450 or more. Named or examiner-level tutors reach AED 500-650, with BartyED at AED 650.

The in-home column is the one worth staring at. In-home one-to-one visits in Dubai are quoted at roughly AED 180-500 an hour including travel, with Bestimate reporting AED 180-350 and independent home tutors asking AED 200-500. The premium over an equivalent online rate is not buying better teaching. It is buying the tutor's car, their fuel and the hour of their evening that Al Wasl Road takes, and it is priced in because that hour is real.

Everything above is a market rate published by somebody else, cited so a City Walk parent can check it. None of it is an IB Gram price list. IB Gram quotes after the free trial lesson, when there is a named tutor, a subject, a level and a session length to quote on, and the trial happens before any payment or card detail is taken.

Online or in-home for a City Walk household

This is a genuine question and it deserves a straight answer rather than a sales pitch. In-home tutoring has real advantages. A younger child who cannot yet self-manage benefits from an adult physically present. A household with unreliable connectivity has a problem online that it does not have in person. A parent who wants to overhear the lesson gets that for free in a living room.

Against that, the arithmetic of a City Walk weekday is unforgiving. A tutor travelling from Al Barsha to City Walk at five o'clock is committing well over an hour to the journey, and that hour is in the rate. It also shrinks the pool: the people who will make that drive are the people who live close enough, which is not the same set as the people who teach Chemistry Higher Level with real command of the Reactivity 3 mechanisms. A family optimising for proximity is, without intending to, optimising against specialism.

IB Gram does not offer home visits in the UAE at all, so there is no commercial reason to pretend the comparison is one-sided. Home tutoring is a legitimate product that other providers sell and that some families should buy. What this page argues is narrower: for a Diploma student with a specific component problem, the specialist matters more than the postcode, and online delivery is what makes the specialist reachable from Al Safa Street.

The practical form it takes is unremarkable and that is the point. A scheduled video room, a shared whiteboard the student writes on, screen sharing for past papers, and a recording the student can rewatch before the next timed paper. Sessions sit on Gulf Standard Time around the school day, and shift to post-Iftar slots through Ramadan when families ask.

Academic honesty: what an IB tutor may and may not do

  • A tutor teaches criteria and gives feedback; the submitted words are the student's own
  • No supply of data, no drafting of research questions, no line-by-line rewriting
  • Published past papers and mark schemes are cited and linked, never redistributed as downloads
  • Tell the school a tutor is involved; visible support is never the thing that causes a problem

This section exists because the search results for IB tutoring in Dubai contain businesses that sell completed internal assessments. One researched operator advertises finished IA work at a fixed price. Buying that is academic misconduct under IB rules, and the consequence falls on the student, not the vendor: an investigation can cost a subject grade and, in a confirmed case, the Diploma itself.

The boundary is not subtle. A tutor may teach the content, explain the criteria, model a worked example on a different question, question the research design, point at a section and say the reasoning does not follow, and ask what the student meant by a sentence. A tutor may not write any part of the submission, draft the research question in their own words for the student to adopt, correct the text line by line until it is theirs rather than the student's, or supply data the student did not collect.

Schools in Dubai are reasonably alert to this. Internal assessment work typically passes through a draft-and-comment cycle with the subject teacher, candidates sign academic-honesty declarations, and a sudden change in voice between a classroom essay and a submitted piece is noticeable to anybody who has taught the student for a year. The sensible position for a family is to keep the tutoring visible: tell the school a tutor is involved, and keep a record of what each session covered.

There is a second, quieter reason to hold the line. A student who has been edited to a 6 cannot replicate it in the examination hall, where there is no editor. The marks that transfer are the ones that came from the student understanding the criterion, and those are the only marks a tutor should be in the business of producing.

The Dubai school market around City Walk, and what a KHDA rating means

Dubai's private-school sector is the context every tutoring decision in City Walk sits inside. The Dubai Media Office reported 387,441 students across 227 private schools in 2024-25, offering 17 different curricula, with the UK curriculum at 37% of enrolment, Indian at 26%, US at 14% and the International Baccalaureate at 7%. That last figure explains something families notice: IB provision is a minority of a very large market, so Diploma specialists are correspondingly scarcer than IGCSE ones.

The sector is still growing. KHDA reported that Dubai's 2026-27 intake adds seven new private schools, four UK curriculum and three International Baccalaureate, creating 16,846 new places, after six schools opened during 2025-26 and enrolment rose 6%. Separately, KHDA confirmed on 22 May 2026 that there would be no increase in private-school fees in the emirate for 2026-27, under Dubai's second economic incentives package valued at AED 1.5 billion within a AED 2.5 billion total.

KHDA is the Knowledge and Human Development Authority, described on the federal u.ae portal as responsible for enhancing and overseeing the quality of private education in the emirate. Its inspection reports grade schools on a six-band scale from Outstanding down to Very Weak, and the report itself is more useful than the headline band: it is published per subject and per phase, so a school rated Good overall may be Very Good in secondary science and Acceptable in the subject your child is struggling with. That is the page worth reading before concluding the school is the problem.

Elsewhere in the country the regulator changes. Abu Dhabi and Al Ain sit with ADEK, which supervises the licensing and accreditation of private schools in that emirate. Sharjah has the Sharjah Private Education Authority, Ras Al Khaimah its Department of Knowledge, and the federal Ministry of Education supervises private schools in Ajman, Umm Al Quwain and Fujairah. IB Gram holds no approval, licence or accreditation from any of them, and no page on this site should be read as implying otherwise.

Permits, mandatory UAE subjects and Ministry of Education equivalency

Private tutoring in the UAE is permitted and regulated, not informal. The federal u.ae portal records that the private tutor work permit was introduced by Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023, that it is granted free of charge for two years, and that eligible applicants include teachers registered in government or private schools, government and private-sector employees, unemployed individuals, university students and school students aged 15 to 18. Individuals offering private tutoring without a permit from MoHRE are subject to fines and penalties under the applicable laws. No fine schedule is published, so no amount is quoted here.

MoHRE's own service page is titled Issuance of a New Work Permit - Private Tutor Licensing, lists no fee and a two-working-day completion time, and is applied for through the MoHRE smart app, website and e-services system. A family hiring any individual tutor in Dubai can reasonably ask to see the permit. Note separately that an operation with premises and staff in Dubai is a different legal animal and needs a KHDA Educational Services Permit for a training institute; IB Gram has no UAE premises and holds no such permit.

Alongside the Diploma, KHDA requires Arabic, Islamic Education and Social or Moral studies in every Dubai private school regardless of the licensed international curriculum, with requirements to be implemented by the start of the 2025-26 academic year. KHDA requires separate classes for Arabs and non-Arabs in Arabic as a first language, Islamic Education and Social Studies, states that combined classes are strictly prohibited, calculates instructional time on a 40-minute lesson unit, advises a minimum lesson length of 25 minutes, and prohibits any different or additional content without prior Ministry of Education permission.

For university entry inside the UAE, Ministry of Education equivalency is the process that matters, and it is worth knowing the sourced numbers. On the British track a student must show five accredited subjects in GCSE or IGCSE certificates with a grade of no less than E or grade 3, plus one accredited subject at Advanced Level at no less than E or two at Advanced Subsidiary Level at the same grade, with Arabic and Islamic education not included among the five. On the American track, English proficiency requires IELTS academic 5, TOEFL iBT 61 or 450 in SAT reading and writing, and mathematics requires at least 450 in SAT Math. There is no sourced IB points threshold, so none is published here: verify the IB route on moe.gov.ae or with the attestation authority directly. IB Gram describes this process and does not perform, submit or guarantee any part of it.

City Walk and the Jumeirah strip around it

Students taught through this page live along the inland and coastal strip between Downtown and Umm Suqeim. The notes below are about what the geography does to a weekday evening, because that is what decides whether a session actually happens.

City Walk

Low-rise residential blocks either side of Al Safa Street, walkable to the City Walk retail district. Short hops to Jumeirah and Al Wasl schools, but the 4pm Al Wasl Road crawl makes any travelling arrangement unreliable.

Al Wasl

The villa strip running along Al Wasl Road behind City Walk. Horizon English School sits on this road, and families here often have a Year 6 and a Year 12 needing different programmes on the same evening.

Jumeirah 1

Older villa plots between Jumeirah Beach Road and Al Wasl Road. Heavily British-curriculum at primary, with students crossing into Diploma schools further out from Year 12, which lengthens the school run considerably.

Al Safa

Jumeirah College and Jumeirah Baccalaureate School both sit in this cluster, so a single street can hold IGCSE, A Level and Diploma students. Safa Park's edge roads are the pinch point at pickup.

Jumeirah 2 and 3

Quieter plots further along the beach road. Siblings are often split across two schools in different directions, which is why evening online slots are booked here more than afternoon ones.

La Mer and Pearl Jumeira

Newer waterfront developments immediately north of City Walk. Mostly younger families at PYP and lower MYP, with demand concentrated on English and Mathematics criterion work rather than Diploma papers.

Umm Suqeim

Reaches up towards Al Sufouh and the Diploma-heavy schools there. A Higher Level student travelling in this direction is already spending an hour a day in a car before any tutoring is added.

Al Manara and Al Safa 2

Inland villa communities with strong demand for Mathematics Analysis and Approaches support, driven by the Higher Level cohorts at the nearby British-curriculum schools that run the Diploma in sixth form.

School ecosystem

IB and Cambridge school communities we support in City Walk

Al Wasl, Al Safa and Jumeirah

The schools nearest City Walk. Several run British curriculum to 16 before offering a Diploma or A Level route in sixth form, so a single family can be dealing with IGCSE criteria for one child and DP criteria for another in the same term.

  • Jumeirah Baccalaureate School
  • Safa British School
  • Horizon English School
  • GEMS Jumeirah Primary School
  • Jumeirah English Speaking School, Jumeirah
  • Latifa School for Girls

Umm Suqeim, Al Sufouh and Al Barsha

The next ring out, reached from City Walk along Al Wasl Road or Sheikh Zayed Road. This is where much of the Diploma provision within a reasonable commute sits, which is why Year 12 often means a longer school run than Year 6 did.

Downtown, Business Bay and Al Jaddaf

The inland direction from City Walk, over Al Khail or down Sheikh Zayed Road. Useful context for families weighing a school move, because several of these campuses run the full IB continuum rather than a British-to-Diploma handover.

How matching works

From first enquiry to a tutor who fits

  1. 01

Tell us the component, not just the subject

The useful first message names the paper, the criterion or the topic. Physics Paper 2 extended response, or the analysis criterion on a Biology investigation, or Topic 5 calculus without a calculator. That one sentence is what turns a general enquiry into a specific match, and it is the difference between a good pairing and an average one.

  2. 02

A diagnostic, not a sales call

Before a tutor is proposed, somebody looks at the evidence: a recent mock script, the school's feedback on an internal assessment draft, the predicted grade and the target. The question being answered is where the marks are going, because that determines which specialist the student needs rather than which one is free.

  3. 03

Free trial lesson with the named tutor

The first 45-minute lesson is free and happens with the actual tutor who would teach the course, not a demonstrator. No card details are taken before it. The student should finish it able to say what the tutor noticed that their school had not, which is the only test of a match worth applying.

  4. 04

A written plan with dates on it

After the trial you get a short plan: the components to be worked on, the order, the past papers to be sat, and the school deadlines the block is built around. If the student is eight weeks from mocks, the plan counts backwards from mocks rather than forwards from today.

  5. 05

    Weekly work that is marked

Each session sets work and the next session begins with it marked against the published mark scheme, with the mark allocation shown. Parents get the written feedback. The visible number is the mark on the question, not an impression of effort, because that is the number the Diploma will eventually produce.

  6. 06

    Re-match or stop, without friction

If the pairing is wrong, say so and the match changes at no charge. If the problem is solved, stop. A tutoring arrangement that continues out of habit after the marks have recovered is spending a family's money on reassurance rather than on teaching, and nobody should pretend otherwise.

Why families choose us

What UAE parents tell us matters most

Matched on the component, not the postcode

Because delivery is online, the pool is every available specialist rather than only those who will drive to Al Safa Street. For a Higher Level subject or a core component, that is the whole argument: the thinner the specialism, the more the geography hurts, and City Walk is a short drive from many schools but not from many Chemistry Higher Level specialists.

Prices on the page, attributed

Three of six researched competitor pages publish no price at all, and the two that do quote US dollars. This page publishes AED bands with the provider who published each one and the month they were read. You can check them before you talk to anybody, which is how a parent should be able to approach a tutoring decision.

The honesty line is stated, not implied

Tutors teach criteria and give feedback on the student's own work. They do not write internal assessments, Extended Essays or TOK essays, and they say so to the student in the first session. In a search result that contains vendors selling completed coursework, saying this plainly is a differentiator rather than a disclaimer.

Built around the school's own deadlines

Internal deadlines at a Dubai school land months before any external window, and they are what actually governs a term. Session plans are built backwards from the school's draft dates and mock weeks, and shift to post-Iftar slots during Ramadan, because a plan that ignores the calendar is a plan the family abandons by week three.

Regulatory facts, cited and not borrowed

Permit rules, mandatory-subject requirements and equivalency thresholds on this page come from u.ae, MoHRE, KHDA and a dated press source, each named in the text. One ranking competitor publishes the wrong IGCSE subject count for equivalency. Getting that right is cheap and it is the kind of detail a parent can verify in a minute.

No invented numbers anywhere

There is no satisfaction percentage on this page, no star rating, no tutor headcount and no average score, because none of those could be published with a sample size, a date and a method behind them. Every figure here is either a cited market rate or a published regulator statistic, and the source is on the page.

Questions parents ask

IB and IGCSE tutoring in City Walk: your questions answered

Is there actually an IB tutor near me in City Walk, or is everything online?+

Everything IB Gram provides for a City Walk family is online: one-to-one lessons over live video, scheduled on Gulf Standard Time. There is no tutor who travels to a City Walk address, and home visits are a service IB Gram runs only in India. Independent in-home tutors do exist in the area, and the Dubai market quotes them at roughly AED 180-500 an hour with travel included. The trade-off is pool size. A tutor who will drive to Al Safa Street by five o'clock is a much smaller group than every specialist available for a Higher Level subject, and that gap matters most for the subjects where help is hardest to find.

Which IB components do City Walk families ask about most?+

Three cluster together. Mathematics Analysis and Approaches Paper 1, because it is sat without a calculator and exposes algebra that a graphing display calculator had been covering. Science internal assessments, because the research question is usually settled before anybody reads the criteria. And the core, meaning the Extended Essay and the TOK exhibition, because they have no weekly homework rhythm and so drift until a deadline arrives. The common thread is that all three are fixable early and expensive to fix late, which is why a diagnostic conversation at the start is worth more than an extra hour at the end.

How much of an IB grade is the internal assessment worth?+

In most Diploma subjects the internally assessed component is worth around a fifth of the final grade, rising to a quarter or more in some subject groups and in languages. The precise weighting is published in each subject guide and your child's teacher or IB coordinator will confirm the current version, since the IB revises guides on a rolling cycle. What matters practically is that those marks are decided over months with feedback available, unlike the external papers. A student who reads the criteria before the first draft is working with the grading system rather than discovering it afterwards.

Where is the line between IA feedback and a tutor writing it?+

No, and no reputable tutor will. A tutor may teach the criteria, model a worked example on a different question, stress-test the research question, and give written feedback on the student's own draft. A tutor may not write any part of the submission, supply data the student did not collect, or edit the text until the voice is the tutor's. Crossing that line is academic misconduct under IB rules and the consequence lands on the student, up to the loss of the Diploma. One operator in this search sells completed internal assessments; buying it is the single worst decision available in a Diploma year.

What do IB tutors cost per hour in the Dubai market?+

Budget online tutoring is advertised from roughly AED 45-150 an hour, with EdFlik listing from AED 45-65 and Tutopiya from AED 33-52. A qualified subject tutor working online sits around AED 150-300, with Unitors publishing IGCSE from AED 150 and IB from AED 200. IB and IGCSE specialists run AED 200-450 or more, with TutorChase publishing AED 270. Premium named tutors reach AED 500-650, with BartyED at AED 650. Those are other providers' published rates as read in October 2026, not IB Gram's prices. IB Gram quotes after the free trial, when there is a named tutor and a session length.

My child is eight weeks from mock examinations. Is it worth starting now?+

Eight weeks is enough for examination technique and for one or two topic repairs, and not enough to rebuild a two-year course. The sensible shape is a timed diagnostic paper in week one, marked against the real scheme, then hours allocated by where the marks went rather than by syllabus order. Command-term discipline and mark-per-minute pacing are the fastest gains available and often show up in the next timed paper. What eight weeks cannot do is fix an internal assessment whose research question was never going to produce a result, which is why that piece needs attention far earlier.

Under which resolution is a Dubai private tutor permit issued?+

Yes. The federal u.ae portal records that the private tutor work permit was introduced by Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023 and is granted free of charge for two years. Eligible applicants include teachers registered in schools, government and private-sector employees, unemployed individuals, university students and school students aged 15 to 18. Those tutoring without a MoHRE permit are subject to fines and penalties under the applicable laws; no fine schedule is published, so no figure should be quoted to you. MoHRE's service page lists a two-working-day completion time. You can reasonably ask any individual tutor to show you theirs.

Which schools near City Walk run the IB Diploma?+

The immediate Al Wasl, Al Safa and Jumeirah cluster includes Jumeirah Baccalaureate School on the IB side alongside strongly British-curriculum schools such as Jumeirah College, Safa British School and Horizon English School. Diploma provision thickens in the next ring out, around Umm Suqeim, Al Sufouh and Al Barsha, and again inland at campuses running the full IB continuum. Schools are named here only as context for the area's market: IB Gram has no affiliation or partnership with any of them. Check the current programme offering on the school's own site, because sixth-form routes change.

What does a KHDA inspection rating actually tell me about my child's subject?+

Less than parents assume from the headline band. KHDA is described on u.ae as responsible for enhancing and overseeing the quality of private education in Dubai, and its reports grade on six bands from Outstanding to Very Weak. The useful part is inside: ratings are published by phase and by subject area, so a school rated Good overall can be Very Good in secondary science and Acceptable in the subject where your child is struggling. Read that detail before concluding the school is the cause. It also tells you whether the gap is the teaching or the student's examination technique.

How does online IB tutoring work in practice from a City Walk home?+

A scheduled video room, a shared whiteboard the student writes on rather than watches, screen sharing for past papers and mark schemes, and a recording the student can rewatch before a timed paper. Sessions sit on Gulf Standard Time around the school day, usually early evening, and move to post-Iftar slots during Ramadan when families ask. The student needs a device, a stable connection and somewhere quiet enough to think. What a parent gets after each lesson is written feedback naming the component worked on and the mark scored on the work set.

Do Arabic and Islamic Education still apply if my child is doing the IB?+

Yes. KHDA requires Arabic, Islamic Education and Social or Moral studies in every Dubai private school whatever the licensed international curriculum, with requirements to be implemented by the start of the 2025-26 academic year. KHDA requires separate classes for Arab and non-Arab students in Arabic as a first language, Islamic Education and Social Studies, and states that combined classes are strictly prohibited. Instructional time is calculated on a 40-minute lesson unit, with a minimum advised lesson length of 25 minutes, and no different or additional content may be used without prior Ministry of Education permission.

Will an IB Diploma get my child into a UAE university without extra paperwork?+

Ministry of Education equivalency is a separate process from the Diploma itself, and it is the step families most often discover late. The sourced British-track rule requires five accredited GCSE or IGCSE subjects at no less than E or grade 3, with Arabic and Islamic education excluded from that five, plus one Advanced Level at E or two Advanced Subsidiary subjects. The American track sets IELTS academic 5, TOEFL iBT 61 or SAT 450 reading and writing for English, and at least 450 in SAT Math. No sourced IB points threshold exists in the material read for this page, so verify the IB route on moe.gov.ae directly.

Can one tutor cover two of my child's six IB subjects?+

Sometimes, and it is worth asking rather than assuming. Mathematics and Physics overlap enough in technique that one specialist can often carry both, and the same is true of Chemistry and Biology at Standard Level. Across subject groups it is rarer and usually worse: a tutor stretched into a second subject they teach adequately rather than well is a false economy at any rate. The better arrangement for two genuinely different problems is two specialists with a shared understanding of the student's timetable, which online matching makes practical in a way a driving radius does not.

What if no City Walk-ready specialist covers our Higher Level subject?+

You get told, and told quickly. Thin specialisms do exist, particularly Higher Level sciences, less common Group 2 languages and the Career-related Programme's career study component. If nobody suitable is free in the matching window, the honest answer is that nobody is free, with an estimate of when that changes. The alternative, which several providers in this market take, is to place whoever is available and hope the fit works out. That costs a family a term and is why this page says so before you ask.

Is a free trial lesson genuinely free, and what is the condition?+

The first lesson is 45 minutes, free, and taken with the tutor who would actually teach the course rather than a demonstrator. No card details are collected before it and there is no obligation afterwards. The one condition worth stating plainly is that it is one trial per student per subject, not an open-ended run of free lessons across several tutors. After the trial you get a written plan and a quote based on the named tutor, the level and the session length, and the decision to continue is made then.

How quickly can a tutor be matched for a City Walk student?+

For a mainstream Diploma subject at Standard Level, a match is usually proposed within a couple of working days and the free trial sits in the same week. Higher Level sciences, Mathematics Analysis and Approaches at Higher Level, and core supervision take longer because the pool is smaller. The variable that slows everything is vague information: a request naming only the subject needs a diagnostic conversation first, while one naming the paper, the criterion and the deadline can usually be matched straight away. That is why the first message matters.

Start from the component your child is losing marks on

If you have a recent mock script, a returned internal assessment draft or a predicted grade that does not match the target, that is the conversation to start with. Tell us the paper, the criterion or the topic, and what the school has already said about it. A specialist for that component will take the free 45-minute trial lesson with your child, on Gulf Standard Time, over live video, before any payment or card detail is involved. You will leave the trial with a written plan built backwards from the school's own deadlines, and a quote for the work. If the match is wrong, it changes at no charge. If the problem is solved, stop.
