IGCSE Maths Tutor in Jumeirah Park

A useful IGCSE maths tutor in Jumeirah Park starts with two facts from the school, not from the parent: the syllabus code and the tier. Cambridge 0580 and Pearson 4MA1 are examined differently, and Core and Extended have different ceilings. Once those are known, the work is specific and the hour can be timed around when the bus actually reaches your district.

  • Tutors briefed on the exact code: Cambridge 0580 or Pearson 4MA1
  • Tier confirmed before the first session, never assumed

IB & IGCSE in Jumeirah Park

Two facts from the school before you hire anyone

IGCSE mathematics is not one qualification. Your child is entered for a specific syllabus with a specific code, at a specific tier, and both of those change what a tutor should be doing on a Tuesday evening. Cambridge IGCSE Mathematics is 0580 with Core and Extended tiers. Pearson Edexcel International GCSE Mathematics A is 4MA1 with Foundation and Higher tiers. The past papers are not interchangeable and the paper structures differ.

Parents are rarely told this and almost never ask, which is why board-blind tutoring is the most expensive mistake in Dubai maths tuition. A tutor working from the wrong board's papers will teach competently, your child will work hard, and the grade will not move. One email to the school's exams officer asking for the code and tier for mathematics prevents the whole problem before any money is committed.

The tier is the second fact and the more consequential one. Core caps the grades available; Extended carries the top of the scale and covers more content. Dubai schools generally decide on Year 9 and early Year 10 evidence. If your child is near the boundary, and particularly if they need maths for A Level or the IB Diploma later, that is a conversation to have with the head of department in Year 10 rather than a decision to accept silently.

It is worth knowing how much of the local market this affects. Dubai held 387,441 private school pupils across 227 schools in 2024-25, with 37 per cent on the UK curriculum, so IGCSE mathematics is the single most tutored subject in the city. That means plenty of supply and very uneven quality, and it means the questions you ask before paying do more work than the price you pay.

Once both facts are established the work becomes precise. Mathematics is the most diagnosable subject on an IGCSE timetable: a single marked paper usually shows whether the problem is a content gap, a method-selection failure or exam conduct, and those three need different responses. A tutor who cannot tell you which of the three they are looking at in the first session is not reading the paper properly.

There is one more timing fact specific to the UAE. Cambridge candidates here sit the June and November series, and Pearson Edexcel International GCSE runs May/June and November. The February/March series is offered to India only, so any plan built around a February exam window is wrong for your child's country. That is not a detail: it is a date a parent would act on, and it circulates in Gulf-facing tutoring content.

IB Gram delivers this as live online tuition to Jumeirah Park, one tutor to one student, on Gulf Standard Time, with a shared working surface where both people can write. IB Gram does not send tutors to homes anywhere in the UAE; home visits are an India-only service. For mathematics the online format is particularly workable, because the subject is written and shared rather than discussed.

Every IB programme stage, mapped to UAE school years

Mathematics support around Jumeirah Park concentrates at four points. The cheapest and most effective is the earliest, and the one families most often skip.

LSECAges 11-14 · Years 7-9

Lower Secondary mathematics

Fractions, negative numbers, indices, the beginnings of algebra and the habit of showing working. Everything that later looks like IGCSE weakness is formed here. Cambridge Checkpoint tests run in March, May and October where a school uses them, and give a useful external reference point before the tier decision.

Several Dubai schools set IGCSE tiering on Year 9 evidence, so a quiet Year 9 can cap a child at Core before the family has discussed it. This is the cheapest year in which to intervene and the least used.

IGCSEAges 14-16 · Years 10-11

IGCSE Mathematics

Two years to a public examination, with Cambridge 0580 offering Core and Extended and Pearson 4MA1 offering Foundation and Higher. Grades affect sixth-form subject access and count towards Ministry of Education equivalency on the British track, where five subjects at no less than E or grade 3 are required.

Jumeirah Park students sit these papers at their own school as a centre. Cambridge allocates every centre to one of six administrative zones with its own timetable version, and states it cannot accept responsibility for a candidate who used the wrong one.

ADDAges 15-16 · Year 11

Additional Mathematics

Taken alongside the main course by students heading for A Level Mathematics or Further Mathematics, or for the IB Diploma's Analysis and Approaches at Higher Level. Calculus arrives early and the pace assumes total fluency with indices, surds and rearrangement, which is where most of the difficulty actually sits.

Fewer tutors cover this course, so rates sit at the upper end of the qualified band and slots in the spring term are scarce. Booking in the autumn rather than February is the practical difference between getting a specialist and not.

NEXTAges 16-19 · Years 12-13

The step after IGCSE

A Level Mathematics or the IB Diploma's Analysis and Approaches or Applications and Interpretation. Both assume a speed and exactness in algebra that a good IGCSE grade does not guarantee, because IGCSE rewards accuracy with method marks and the next stage does not scaffold in the same way.

Several schools within a short drive of Jumeirah Park offer the Diploma and several the A Level route. A term of bridging work in the summer after Year 11 is the single highest-value maths tutoring a family in this community can buy.

Subject coverage

IB and IGCSE subjects we tutor

What an IGCSE maths tutor should actually be working on, topic by topic. A specialist can say immediately where each one costs marks at Extended or Higher tier.

Algebraic manipulation

Core and Extended

Expanding, factorising, simplifying algebraic fractions, rearranging formulae and working with indices and surds. This is the foundation everything else sits on, and it is where Extended candidates most often lose marks in the middle of a long question that they had set up correctly.

Equations, inequalities and simultaneous equations

Core and Extended

Linear, quadratic and simultaneous equations, including one linear and one quadratic at Extended. Students lose marks by finding one root and stopping, or by solving an inequality and reversing the sign incorrectly when multiplying by a negative. Both are trainable in a handful of sessions.

Functions and graphs

Core and Extended

Straight lines, quadratics, reciprocal and exponential graphs, transformations and, at Extended, composite and inverse functions. Sketching is marked on features rather than neatness: intercepts, turning points and asymptotes, which students omit because nobody told them the marks were there.

Trigonometry

Core and Extended

Right-angled trigonometry and Pythagoras at both tiers, with the sine and cosine rules, area of a triangle and three-dimensional problems at Extended. The common failure is not the formula but identifying which triangle to use in a three-dimensional diagram, which responds to drawing practice rather than more theory.

Mensuration and geometry

Core and Extended

Area, volume, surface area, arcs and sectors, similarity and circle theorems at Extended. Circle theorems are a reliable source of marks for students who learn to state the reason as well as the answer, and a reliable loss for those who do not.

Statistics and probability

Core and Extended

Averages from frequency tables, cumulative frequency, histograms with unequal intervals, tree diagrams and conditional probability at Extended. Histograms with unequal class widths are among the most commonly dropped marks in the whole syllabus and take about one session to fix properly.

Number and ratio

Core and Extended

Standard form, upper and lower bounds, percentage change, compound interest, direct and inverse proportion. Bounds questions are disproportionately badly answered because students apply the wrong bound to a subtraction or division, which is a rule rather than an understanding problem.

Vectors and transformations

Extended

Column vectors, vector geometry proofs and the four transformations with their descriptions. Transformation questions demand a full description -- type, centre, scale factor, direction -- and partial answers score partially, which is a cheap and common loss.

Calculus in Additional Mathematics

Additional Mathematics

Differentiation, stationary points, rates of change and basic integration, arriving far earlier than students expect. The course assumes complete fluency in algebra, so weaknesses carried from the main syllabus surface immediately and are better closed before the course starts.

Exam conduct and paper technique

All tiers

Showing working so method marks survive a wrong answer, managing time across the paper, avoiding early rounding, and reading the accuracy instruction. These are the cheapest marks in the subject and are routinely left untaught because they feel too obvious to teach.

How sessions run

Tutoring formats built around UAE school timetables

Three patterns that suit IGCSE mathematics, all delivered live online, one to one, on Gulf Standard Time.

Weekly from Year 10

One fixed hour a week alongside the school's teaching order, closing gaps as they appear rather than after they compound. This is the pattern that keeps the higher tier reachable while that decision is still open, and the total spend across two years is usually lower than a single intensive programme in Year 11.

  • Same tutor, same slot, briefed on the exact syllabus code
  • Works to the school's scheme of work, not a generic order
  • Keeps Extended or Higher tier viable while it is open
  • Short written note after each session

Topic-targeted block

Six to eight sessions aimed at named topics from a marked paper: histograms with unequal intervals, bounds, circle theorem reasons, three-dimensional trigonometry. It is the best-value maths tutoring available because the targets are specific, the progress is measurable and the block finishes.

  • Targets named topics, not the whole syllabus
  • Starts from the marked mock or school assessment
  • Ends with a timed paper to test the result
  • A fixed number of sessions, agreed up front

Final-term paper programme

Two or three sessions a week in the last weeks, entirely past papers under timed conditions, marked line by line. The topic list is rebuilt weekly from the errors rather than following the specification, and exam conduct gets explicit attention because that is where the recoverable marks are.

  • Papers under exam conditions, then marked together
  • Error log drives the next session
  • Explicit work on working, timing and rounding
  • Runs through holidays and across time zones if you travel

What IB and IGCSE study actually looks like in Jumeirah Park

01

What an IGCSE maths tutor in Jumeirah Park actually does

  • Diagnosis from marked work, then targeted teaching, then timed papers
  • One-to-one, live, online; no UAE home visits and no UAE centre
  • Matched to the syllabus code and tier
  • Free trial session before any payment

The useful version of this service is narrow. A tutor reads a marked paper, identifies which topics are failing and why, teaches those topics properly, then runs past papers for that exact syllabus code under timed conditions and marks them with the student. That is most of it. Everything else is scheduling and honesty about what is possible in the weeks remaining.

IB Gram delivers it as live one-to-one online lessons to Jumeirah Park households, scheduled around when your child actually gets home. There are no home visits in the UAE; that service runs in India only. There is no centre or office here either, so nothing to drive to in either direction.

For mathematics specifically this format is strong rather than compromised. Both people write on a shared surface, the paper is on screen for both, and a graph can be redrawn five times in a minute. The student also keeps the written record of the session, which they do not when the working is on a loose sheet that goes missing by Thursday.

One thing a tutor should also do is tell you when the hour is not the constraint. If a student has not attempted the homework set by their own teacher for three weeks, no tutor fixes that, and buying a second weekly session makes it worse rather than better. The honest intervention there is a conversation with the school, and we would rather say so than sell the slot.

Where in-person wins is with students who will not stay on task without an adult present, and with households that have nowhere quiet at six in the evening. If that is your situation, hire locally and expect the travel premium: Bestimate puts in-home one-to-one in Dubai at AED 180-350 an hour and independent home tutors at AED 200-500.

02

Cambridge 0580 and Pearson 4MA1 are examined differently

The two qualifications cover similar mathematics and assess it differently, which is why past papers are not interchangeable. Cambridge IGCSE Mathematics 0580 is tiered into Core and Extended and its current assessment includes both non-calculator and calculator components at each tier. Pearson Edexcel International GCSE Mathematics A 4MA1 is tiered into Foundation and Higher and permits a calculator throughout.

That single difference changes the weekly work substantially. A 0580 Extended candidate needs trained exactness without a calculator: fractions, surds, standard form and algebraic manipulation done by hand, quickly. A 4MA1 Higher candidate needs calculator efficiency and discipline about rounding and recording intermediate values. A tutor who prepares one as though they were the other will produce the wrong habits.

Paper counts, mark totals and permitted components are set by the boards and are revised between syllabus cycles, so the authority is the current specification and the version your school holds. Ask the exams officer for the code and the paper structure, and confirm whether a non-calculator component applies at your child's tier before you build a revision plan around it.

There is also a practical consequence for how a session is run. A candidate facing a non-calculator component needs part of each hour spent on mental and written arithmetic under time, which looks unglamorous and is where the marks are. A candidate with a calculator throughout needs the opposite: drilling on efficient use of the specific model and on recording values to full accuracy before rounding at the end.

One further UAE-specific point. Cambridge runs its IGCSE and O Level examinations in June and November series, with Checkpoint tests in March, May and October. The February/March series is offered to India only and is not available to UAE candidates, despite appearing in tutoring content aimed at this market. Pearson Edexcel International GCSE runs in May/June and November.

What the tier decides, in maths specifically

In mathematics the tier does more than cap a grade; it removes content. An Extended or Higher candidate studies topics a Core or Foundation candidate never meets, and several of those topics are the ones that matter for what comes next. A student capped at Core who later wants A Level Mathematics or the Diploma's Analysis and Approaches arrives without having seen material the next course assumes.

This is the part worth arguing about in Year 10 if your child is near the boundary. The argument is not made with enthusiasm; it is made with marked evidence. A term of weekly work aimed specifically at the content that separates the tiers, followed by strong marks on the school's own assessments, is what changes a head of department's view. A request without evidence does not.

The reverse case is just as real. A student placed on Extended who is consistently scoring poorly may finish with a better outcome on Core, depending on what they need the subject for. That should be decided with the school's marked work on the table, in the light of the sixth-form requirement, rather than on a feeling about ambition.

For tutoring the operational point is simple: confirm the tier before the first session and again if the school reviews entries in Year 11. Teaching Extended content to a Core candidate wastes the hour and damages confidence, and it happens more often than anyone admits because nobody checked.

04

The topics that decide an Extended grade

Examiner-report patterns and the marked papers we see point at the same short list every year, and it is shorter than parents expect. Most students losing marks at Extended or Higher are losing them in five or six identifiable places, not across the whole syllabus. That is good news, because a short list is a plan.

Histograms with unequal class widths, upper and lower bounds applied to subtraction or division, circle theorems stated without the reason, full descriptions of transformations, three-dimensional trigonometry, and algebraic fractions in a long multi-step question. Each of these is a rule or a routine rather than a conceptual mystery, and each responds to one or two focused sessions followed by targeted past-paper questions.

The second group is method and conduct rather than content. Not showing working where the final answer is wrong, which forfeits method marks that were available. Rounding at an intermediate step and carrying the error through. Running out of time on the last four questions. These are the cheapest marks in the subject to recover and the least often taught.

Parents often expect the list to be longer, and the length is the useful part. If a student is losing twelve marks a paper and nine of them sit in four identifiable places, then four sessions and some targeted questions are a plan with a measurable end. A general programme of revision has no end, costs more and usually produces less, which is why the marked paper matters more than the number of hours bought.

A tutor should be able to name which of these apply to your child in the first session, from a marked paper, and say roughly how many sessions each needs. If the answer is a general plan to revise the syllabus from the start, the paper has not been read properly.

Timing a maths session around the Jumeirah Park school run

This is the operational detail nobody publishes and it decides whether an arrangement survives a term. Dubai schools finish between roughly 14:30 and 15:30. A Jumeirah Park bus route that also serves Al Barsha or Jumeirah Village gets most children home between 15:20 and 16:40, depending on district and route. There is no metro station inside the community, so the nearest Route 2020 stations at Al Furjan and Discovery Gardens change nothing for tutoring.

For mathematics the rule is to take the earliest hour you can genuinely sustain, because arithmetic accuracy is the first thing tiredness removes. A student doing bounds and standard form at nine in the evening will make slips they would not make at half past four, and will draw the wrong conclusion about their own ability from them.

Students at the school inside Jumeirah Park can hold 16:00, which is the best maths hour available to anyone in this community. Bussed students should take 17:00 or 17:30 rather than squeezing in at 16:30 before they have eaten. Second-year sixth formers are different and often work better after dinner, but Year 10 and 11 students rarely do.

Keep full papers for the weekend. A Saturday morning slot is the only ninety-minute block in a Jumeirah Park week, and marking the paper on Sunday is where the learning happens. During Ramadan the pattern shifts: shortened school hours and a post-Iftar or late-morning weekend session work better than anything at five in the afternoon, and we reschedule rather than cancel because the series does not move.

From IGCSE maths to whatever comes next

The most valuable maths tutoring a Jumeirah Park family can buy is the term after Year 11 finishes, and almost nobody buys it. A good IGCSE grade certifies accuracy with method marks and partial credit. A Level Mathematics and the Diploma's Analysis and Approaches assume speed, exactness and comfort with abstraction, and they scaffold far less.

The specific gaps are predictable. Surds and indices handled instantly rather than carefully. Algebraic fractions manipulated without error under time. Rearrangement of a formula with the subject appearing twice. Solving a quadratic by completing the square as a default rather than a special case. Reading a graph's features rather than its points. Each of these is a few hours of work when there is no other pressure, and a persistent handicap when there is.

The route choice matters too. Analysis and Approaches at Higher Level assumes essentially all of Extended plus fluency; Applications and Interpretation assumes comfort with data and modelling. A Level Mathematics assumes Higher or Extended content. A student who took Core or Foundation needs a stated bridging plan rather than optimism, and the school is the right place to agree one.

There is an equivalency dimension worth noting while planning the next stage. On the British track the Ministry of Education requires five accredited GCSE or IGCSE subjects at no less than grade E or grade 3, excluding Arabic and Islamic education, plus one Advanced Level subject at grade E or better or two Advanced Subsidiary Level subjects at the same grade. Mathematics is almost always one of the five, which gives the subject a second kind of weight.

The table below sets out the transitions and the realistic amount of support each needs. It is written for planning in June, not for panic in October.

What this costs, and what we will not sell

  • Market band for a qualified online maths tutor: AED 150-300 an hour
  • In-home visits add a travel premium of roughly AED 30-150 an hour
  • No coursework written, no grades guaranteed, no papers supplied
  • No regulator or board approval claimed, because none is held

Published Dubai rates put a qualified subject tutor online at AED 150-300 an hour, with Unitors quoting IGCSE from AED 150 and IB from AED 200. Specialist IB and IGCSE work sits at AED 200-450 or more on Bestimate's survey, with TutorChase around AED 270 and BartyED's premium examiner-led tier at AED 650. Budget providers advertise from AED 33-65: Tutopiya from AED 33-52 and EdFlik from AED 45-65.

On a monthly basis Bestimate estimates AED 240-600 for a weekly budget arrangement, AED 600-1,200 mid-market and AED 1,000-2,000 or more for specialist exam-year support. Published packages run from about AED 799 a month for eight online sessions to AED 1,599-1,799 for four two-hour in-home visits. Every figure here is the provider's or survey's own, read in October 2026, and none is an IB Gram price.

What we will not sell: coursework of any kind written, part-written or supplied; grade guarantees or money-back improvement schemes; reproduced past papers, mark schemes or grade-boundary tables, which are cited and linked rather than distributed; or any claim of approval by KHDA, the Ministry of Education, the Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation, Cambridge or Pearson, none of which IB Gram holds.

We also publish no rating, review count or satisfaction percentage, because a statistic without its sample size, date and method is a liability rather than a credential. Several providers in this market publish two different ratings on the same page. We would rather show you the arithmetic of a year's support and let you decide.

Where we tutor

Where IGCSE maths students around Jumeirah Park study

The hour a maths session happens matters more than for any other subject, because accuracy fades with tiredness. These are the communities around Jumeirah Park and what their school runs do to the evening.

Jumeirah Park

Students at the school inside the community are home by about 15:20, which makes a 16:00 maths slot available to them and to almost nobody else in the area. It is the best accuracy window in the day.

Jumeirah Islands

No school inside the gates, so students arrive home later and a 17:30 session produces better work than a rushed 16:30 one. Worth fixing for the year rather than renegotiating weekly.

Jumeirah Village Triangle

Two schools inside the community mean short journeys and the densest concentration of Year 10 and 11 candidates close to Jumeirah Park, including Additional Mathematics students.

Al Furjan

Safa Community School and Arbor School serve this area. Journeys are short but the 17:00 crossing of the local roads still pushes most households to a 17:00 or 17:30 start.

The Gardens and Discovery Gardens

Denser housing, a mixed school map and a strong market in group classes. For topic-specific maths problems, a one-to-one hour usually outperforms a group hour at a lower price.

Jumeirah Golf Estates

Long outward commutes to Al Barsha and Dubailand schools. Families here are the most likely in the group to need an 18:00 slot, and the most likely to use Saturday morning for full papers.

Motor City and Dubai Sports City

GEMS Metropole and Victory Heights Primary are nearby. The Al Khail Road crossing in the evening peak is why in-home quotes from this direction carry a premium and online does not.

How matching works

From first enquiry to a tutor who fits

  1. 01

Get the code and the tier from the school

One email to the exams officer asking for the mathematics syllabus code and tier. You will get back something like 0580 Extended or 4MA1 Higher. It costs nothing, takes a day, and prevents the most expensive mistake available in Dubai maths tutoring.

  2. 02

    Send one marked paper

A recent assessment or mock, marked, is worth more than any description of the problem. It shows whether the issue is a content gap, a method-selection failure or exam conduct. We read it before the trial session rather than spending the trial finding out.

  3. 03

Book the earliest hour you can hold

For maths, earlier is better: accuracy is the first thing tiredness takes. In this community that means 16:00 for the in-community school and 17:00 or 17:30 for bussed students, with Saturday morning reserved for full timed papers.

  4. 04

    Take the free trial session

A full lesson with the matched tutor on your child's own material, no payment and no card details. Ask them which topics they are targeting and why, and whether a non-calculator component applies at your child's tier. Wrong answers mean we change the tutor.

  5. 05

Review on a timed paper at six sessions

Not on impressions. We look at whether the named topics now score and whether your child chooses the right method unprompted. If they do not, the match, the frequency or the diagnosis changes. Buying more hours against a wrong diagnosis is the standard waste in this subject.

Why families choose us

What UAE parents tell us matters most

Briefed on the exact syllabus code

Tutors work from 0580 or 4MA1 papers specifically, with the right mark schemes and the right calculator assumptions. Board-blind tutoring is the way most IGCSE maths money is wasted in Dubai, and it is prevented by one email before the first session.

Tier confirmed, never assumed

We check Core or Extended, Foundation or Higher, before teaching anything, and again if the school reviews entries in Year 11. Teaching the wrong tier wastes the hour and knocks a student's confidence, and it happens because nobody asked.

Diagnosis from marked work

The first session works from a marked paper and names the specific topics and habits costing marks, with a realistic number of sessions for each. A plan to revise the syllabus from the beginning is what a tutor offers when they have not read the paper.

Timed for accuracy

We push for the earliest slot your household can sustain, because arithmetic precision degrades with tiredness in a way essay writing does not. This page publishes the school-run arrivals for that reason rather than as local colour.

Every AED figure here belongs to the provider or survey that published it, read in October 2026. Three of the six strongest competitor pages in this market publish no price at all, and two quote US dollars at families who pay in dirhams.

Nothing claimed that cannot be checked

No regulator approval, no board licensing, no self-asserted rating, no statistic without its method, and no promise of a grade. On a subject as measurable as mathematics, the absence of unverifiable claims is the point.

Questions parents ask

IB and IGCSE tutoring in Jumeirah Park: your questions answered

Our school has not told us the maths syllabus code. Does it really matter?+

It matters more than anything else you will decide. Cambridge 0580 and Pearson 4MA1 cover similar mathematics and examine it differently, including the calculator position, so their past papers are not interchangeable. A tutor working from the wrong set will teach well and move nothing, and you will usually find out after a term. Email the exams officer for the code and tier for mathematics specifically; departments within one school sometimes use different boards for different subjects, so ask per subject rather than assuming.

What exactly does being put on Core take away from my child?+

Content, not just grades. An Extended or Higher candidate studies algebraic fractions, the sine and cosine rules, three-dimensional trigonometry, composite and inverse functions, histograms with unequal intervals and conditional probability, among others. A Core candidate does not meet them. That matters at sixteen, because A Level Mathematics and the IB Diploma's Analysis and Approaches assume that content. The grade ceiling is the visible cost; the missing topics are the one that shows up a year later.

Which maths topics most reliably lose marks at Extended tier?+

A short and consistent list: histograms with unequal class widths, upper and lower bounds in subtraction or division, circle theorems answered without stating the reason, transformations described only partially, three-dimensional trigonometry where the wrong triangle is chosen, and algebraic fractions inside long multi-step questions. Most are rules or routines rather than conceptual difficulties, and most take one to three focused sessions plus targeted past-paper questions. That is why a marked paper is worth more than a general assessment.

Does my child need to practise maths without a calculator?+

It depends on the board, which is one more reason to confirm the code. Cambridge 0580's current assessment includes non-calculator components, so a 0580 candidate needs trained manual exactness with fractions, surds, standard form and algebraic manipulation. Pearson 4MA1 permits a calculator throughout, so the discipline there is about rounding, recording intermediate values and efficiency. Confirm the current paper structure with your school, because specifications are revised and the school holds the version your child is actually sitting.

Can we book a maths tutor to come to the house here?+

Not through us. IB Gram does not offer home visits anywhere in the UAE; that service runs in India only. Mathematics tuition for Jumeirah Park families is live online, one tutor to one student, on Gulf Standard Time, with a shared surface both people write on and the paper on screen for both. For maths that format works well and the student keeps the written record. If someone in the room is essential, the Dubai market charges roughly AED 180-500 an hour for in-home visits including travel.

When in the week should maths sessions happen?+

As early in the evening as your household can genuinely sustain, and with full papers at the weekend. Arithmetic accuracy is the first thing tiredness takes, so a student working on bounds at nine at night makes slips that look like weakness. Students at the school inside Jumeirah Park can hold 16:00; bussed students should take 17:00 or 17:30 rather than squeezing in at 16:30 unfed. Saturday morning is the only ninety-minute block in the week and should be used for a timed paper.

My child says they understand it but keeps getting low marks. What is happening?+

Usually method selection or exam conduct rather than understanding. A student who can perform every technique but picks the wrong one, sets up the question correctly then loses the middle, rounds too early, or fails to show working on a multi-step question where the answer comes out wrong, will score well below their comprehension. These are visible on one marked paper and they respond quickly, which is why a tutor should be reading papers rather than re-teaching chapters.

Is Additional Mathematics worth taking alongside the main course?+

For a student heading to A Level Mathematics, Further Mathematics or the Diploma's Analysis and Approaches at Higher Level, usually yes, because it starts the calculus and the pace early. For a student who is already stretched by Extended, it is a poor trade: it assumes complete algebraic fluency and exposes any weakness immediately. Fewer tutors cover the course, so rates sit at the upper end of the qualified band and spring slots are scarce. Decide in Year 10, not in Year 11.

How long before we see a change in maths marks?+

On the topic-level work, quickly: histograms, bounds and transformation descriptions can show up as marks on the next assessment. On algebraic fluency, slower, because it is a trained speed rather than a fact. We judge at six sessions on timed work, looking for the named topics now scoring and the student choosing methods unprompted. If that has not happened, the match, frequency or diagnosis changes. Nobody can honestly promise a grade or a number of marks.

What should we do in the summer after Year 11?+

A short bridging block, and it is the best-value maths tutoring a family in this community can buy. A good IGCSE grade certifies accuracy with partial credit; A Level Mathematics and the Diploma's Analysis and Approaches assume speed, exactness and much less scaffolding. Six to eight sessions on surds, indices, algebraic fractions, rearrangement and completing the square, with no other pressure in the diary, removes most of the first-term difficulty that otherwise needs weekly support to fix.

Are group maths classes at a centre a reasonable alternative?+

For a shared gap, yes, and per hour they are cheaper. A class on frequency density or on circle theorem reasoning can be excellent value because everyone needs the same thing. For a student whose problem is their own specific pattern of errors, the hour runs on someone else's weakness. If you use a centre in Dubai, note that premises-based training institutes require a KHDA Educational Services Permit, which is a reasonable thing to ask to see.

Which series will my child actually sit, and can they resit?+

UAE Cambridge candidates sit the June and November series; the February/March series is offered to India only and is not available here, despite appearing in content aimed at Gulf parents. Pearson Edexcel International GCSE runs in May/June and November. November is therefore the resit route, and the Pearson precedent shows the timing cost: the November 2026 timetable ran to 19 November 2026 with results reaching students in January, and November 2025 results arrived on 22 January 2026.

Do you cover MYP mathematics as well, for a younger sibling?+

Yes, and it is a different kind of work. MYP mathematics is assessed against four criteria including investigating patterns and applying mathematics in real-life contexts, and marks are lost on communication and on failing to generalise rather than on arithmetic. A tutor needs the school's own task sheet and criterion descriptors to be useful, because the standard is set by the school's boundaries. Screen sharing suits that well, since the task sheet can be open in front of both of them.

How do we judge whether a maths tutor is any good in the trial?+

Three things. Did they read the marked paper and name specific topics, or did they offer to revise the syllabus from the start? Could they say which paper structure and calculator rules apply to your child's code? Did your child do most of the writing, or did they watch? A tutor who talks for fifty minutes may be entirely expert and still wrong for a student who needs to be made to work. And be wary of any grade promise.

We are travelling for three weeks. Do we lose the slot?+

No. Sessions follow the time zone you are in, provided we know the week before, and the weekly slot is held either way. Because no tutor has to travel anywhere, a reschedule is a slot swap rather than a renegotiation, which is one of the practical advantages of online delivery for a community where families move between the UAE and elsewhere frequently. Many Jumeirah Park households pause in July and August and restart with a bridging block in late summer.

Code, tier, marked paper, early slot

Four steps, in that order. Email the school for the mathematics syllabus code and tier. Send one marked paper so a specialist can name the actual problem rather than guessing at it. Book the earliest weekly hour your household can genuinely hold, because accuracy is the first thing tiredness takes in this subject. Then keep Saturday morning for a full timed paper and mark it on Sunday. Our IGCSE maths lessons run live online, one to one, on Gulf Standard Time, with a free trial session before anything is paid.
