IB Tutor near me in Jumeirah Park

When a parent types IB tutor near me in Jumeirah Park, the real question is not distance. It is whether anyone within reach actually knows the syllabus at the level their child is sitting it. This page answers that honestly: how thin local IB specialist supply is, the eight questions that expose a generalist in four minutes, and how IB Gram matches Jumeirah Park families to a specialist who teaches live online.

  • Eight test questions you can ask any tutor before paying
  • Published coverage and fallback position, not a promise of availability
  • Specialists matched by HL or SL, by syllabus, not by drive time

IB & IGCSE in Jumeirah Park

The honest answer to 'is there anyone near me who knows this'

Probably not many, and that is not a marketing line. Dubai's private school sector held 387,441 students across 227 schools in 2024-25, with the International Baccalaureate accounting for 7 per cent of enrolment against 37 per cent on the UK curriculum. IB families are a minority of a very large market. Scale that down to one villa community in west Dubai and one subject at one level, and the pool of genuine specialists within a short drive is small.

That matters because IB subject knowledge is not transferable in the way parents assume. A tutor who is excellent at A Level Chemistry is not automatically useful for IB Chemistry HL, because the internal assessment is criterion-marked, Paper 3 has a different shape, and the command terms carry specific expectations. A tutor who cannot name the paper weightings for the course they are teaching is a generalist, however good they are in a room.

So the search term is right and the filter is wrong. 'Near me' selects for drive time. What decides the grade is whether the tutor has taken students through that exact course to a May session and knows where the marks disappear. Those two things are independent, and when you insist on both you usually end up compromising the one that matters.

There is a second reason distance misleads. The constraint on a weekday evening in this part of Dubai is not kilometres but the clock. A tutor five minutes away who can only come at 18:45 is less useful than a specialist on video at 17:00, because the hour your child can actually concentrate is short and fixed by the school run. Jumeirah Park has no metro station inside it, so none of that is solvable by changing how anyone travels.

Here is what IB Gram actually does. We match a Jumeirah Park student to a tutor chosen for the subject and the level, and the lesson happens live on video, one to one, on Gulf Standard Time. IB Gram does not send tutors to homes anywhere in the UAE; home visits are an India-only service. That is stated plainly here because you will otherwise find it out at the worst possible moment.

It is also worth being clear about what a tutor cannot change. A tutor cannot add hours to a Diploma timetable that already carries six subjects, Theory of Knowledge, the Extended Essay and CAS, alongside the Arabic, Islamic Education and Social Studies periods that KHDA requires of every Dubai private school whatever its licensed curriculum. What a tutor can do is make one subject's hour count for more than three unsupervised ones, and tell you honestly which subject that should be.

The rest of this page is built to be useful whether or not you hire us. It sets out how thin specialist supply is by subject, the eight questions that separate a specialist from a confident generalist, what the UAE tutoring permit regime actually requires, and where a Jumeirah Park family's money tends to go to waste. Use it as a checklist against any provider, including this one.

At a glance

  • IB is roughly 7 per cent of Dubai private school enrolment
  • Specialist scarcity is worst in Physics HL, Chemistry HL and Maths AA HL
  • The level, not the subject, is the thing to match on
  • Ask a tutor for the paper weightings before you ask about price
  • Lessons are delivered live online; there is no UAE home-visit option
IB programmes

Every IB programme stage, mapped to UAE school years

Jumeirah Park's IB students sit across three programmes, and the phrase 'IB tutor' means something different in each. Matching the programme is the first filter, before subject or level.

PYPAges 3-12 · FS1 to Year 6

Primary Years Programme

Inquiry-led and transdisciplinary, with no subject syllabus to revise and no external examination. A tutor here is working on underlying capability: number fluency, reading inference, written explanation. The parent's difficulty is that PYP reporting describes dispositions rather than attainment, so a gap can sit hidden for a year.

Because Jumeirah Park's in-community school is British curriculum, local PYP pupils travel to continuum schools in Al Barsha or further. Many switch systems at some point, which makes a diagnostic session more valuable here than a fixed programme.

MYPAges 11-16 · Years 7-11

Middle Years Programme

Four criteria per subject, each marked 1-8, converted to a 1-7 grade by the school's own boundaries. Marks are lost on process: an unlabelled axis, a method with no evaluation, a conclusion that restates the data. A tutor who has not worked from an MYP task sheet will teach content the student already has.

An MYP tutor near Jumeirah Park needs the student's own task sheet and criterion descriptors to be useful at all. Those come from the school, not from a textbook, which is one reason screen sharing suits this programme particularly well.

DPAges 16-19 · Years 12-13

Diploma Programme

Six subjects, three at Higher Level, plus Theory of Knowledge, the Extended Essay and CAS, with final written papers in the May session for UAE schools. This is where specialist scarcity bites hardest, because HL depth in physics, chemistry and Analysis and Approaches is genuinely rare in any one neighbourhood.

Dubai DP candidates sit the May session, and internal coursework deadlines fall roughly a year earlier. A Jumeirah Park family's most common mistake is treating the exam date as the deadline that matters.

CPAges 16-19 · Years 12-13

Career-related Programme

Two or more DP courses combined with a career-related study and a reflective project. Provision in the UAE is limited to a handful of schools. Tutoring normally targets the DP courses inside the programme plus the personal and professional skills component, which students under-estimate.

With CP offered by so few UAE schools, local word of mouth produces nobody who has taught it. This is the clearest case where searching by distance returns an empty set and searching by subject does not.

Subject coverage

IB and IGCSE subjects we tutor

These are the IB subjects Jumeirah Park families ask for, listed with the question a specialist in that subject should be able to answer instantly. Use them as a test, not just a menu.

Mathematics: Analysis and Approaches

HL and SL

Ask any tutor why Paper 1 changes how you teach algebra. The answer is that no calculator is allowed, so manipulation has to be exact and fast. HL adds proof by induction, complex numbers, Maclaurin series and vector geometry. A tutor who treats AA and AI as the same course is not a specialist.

Mathematics: Applications and Interpretation

HL and SL

Calculator-active throughout, statistics-heavy, with graph theory at HL. Ask what distinguishes a strong AI internal assessment: the answer is a data set the student genuinely owns and interprets in context, not a borrowed one with a regression line drawn through it.

Physics

HL and SL

Ask what Paper 3 contains. A specialist will say data analysis plus an option topic, and will add that significant figures and units cost more marks in long answers than physics errors do. Fields, induction and quantum phenomena are the HL extensions that most often need rebuilding.

Chemistry

HL and SL

Ask how they teach organic mechanisms. A specialist teaches arrow-pushing and electron movement; a generalist teaches products to memorise. HL adds spectroscopic identification and harder equilibrium work, and the internal assessment demands uncertainty handling most students have never been taught.

Biology

HL and SL

Ask which command terms cost students the most. Outline, explain, evaluate and distinguish each demand a different answer shape, and examiner reports repeat the point every session. Content recall is rarely the problem; answer construction almost always is.

Economics

HL and SL

Ask about the internal assessment. Three commentaries, each 800 words, on published news articles, and the article choice is half the mark because a badly chosen article cannot carry a diagram. HL adds quantitative work and an extra paper.

English A: Language and Literature

HL and SL

Ask what the Individual Oral requires. A global issue, two texts, one of them in translation at HL, and a sustained argument rather than a summary. Paper 1 is unseen analysis and Paper 2 is comparative; students who summarise instead of analysing lose marks consistently.

Business Management

HL and SL

Ask which part catches out the strong writers. Investment appraisal and cash-flow forecasting, every time. The research project needs a real organisation and a question narrow enough to answer in the word limit, which is where most of them go wrong.

Computer Science

HL and SL

Ask what makes an internal assessment fail. Scope: a project too ambitious to document against the criteria inside the word limit. HL adds abstract data structures and resource management, and the written papers want pseudocode, not a language the student happens to know.

TOK, Extended Essay and IA coaching

Core components

Ask what a tutor will and will not do. The correct answer is teaching research question design, argument structure and referencing, plus feedback on the student's own drafts, and nothing that involves writing any part of it. Any other answer is a reason to stop the conversation.

How sessions run

Tutoring formats built around UAE school timetables

Three ways Jumeirah Park families use IB tutoring, all delivered one to one on live video in Gulf Standard Time.

A single diagnostic session

One session with a subject specialist whose only job is to establish where the student actually is against the level they are entered for. It produces a written read rather than a programme, and some families take it and then decide they do not need weekly tutoring at all. That is a legitimate outcome and we would rather you reached it early.

  • One session, one subject, a written diagnosis
  • Works from the student's own marked work
  • No commitment to anything afterwards
  • Useful before choosing HL subjects

Weekly specialist tutoring

A fixed hour per subject per week with the same tutor, working to your child's school calendar rather than a generic syllabus order. This is the pattern that suits Diploma students, because the workload problem is usually sequencing several deadlines rather than one weak topic.

  • Same tutor, same slot, tracked against school deadlines
  • Short written feedback after each session
  • Frequency rises in mock and exam windows
  • A second subject can be added without changing the first tutor

Coursework coaching with published limits

Sessions built around an internal assessment, Extended Essay or TOK deadline: research question design, method, structure, referencing, and feedback on drafts the student has written. The tutor reads and comments. The tutor does not write, and we publish that limit because several operators in this market do not observe it.

  • Criterion-by-criterion review against published descriptors
  • Research question narrowed before any writing begins
  • Feedback on the student's draft only
  • Timed to the school's internal deadline

What IB and IGCSE study actually looks like in Jumeirah Park

01

Why distance is the wrong filter for an IB tutor

  • Local supply is filtered four times over before you even meet anyone
  • Travel willingness correlates poorly with subject depth
  • Online removes the travel filter and keeps the syllabus one
  • In-person still wins for young children and practical equipment work

An IB tutor near me in Jumeirah Park, taken literally, means a tutor within a short drive. The problem is that the two things that determine whether tutoring works -- command of the specific course and a slot your child can actually use -- have nothing to do with the tutor's address. Filtering by distance throws away the first in order to buy the second, when the second is obtainable another way.

Think about what the local pool really is. It is people who hold a Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation private tuition work permit, teach your child's subject at your child's level, have a free evening slot in your window, and are willing to drive into Jumeirah Park in the 17:00 peak. Each condition cuts the list. The last one cuts it most, because an in-demand specialist has no reason to spend ninety minutes in traffic.

IB Gram removes the travel condition and keeps the rest. Lessons are live, one to one, on video, scheduled around your household's evening. We do not offer home visits in the UAE; that service exists in India only. The result is that your child is matched on syllabus and level, which is where the marks are, rather than on geography, which is where the convenience is.

In exchange you give up physical presence, and for some students that is the wrong trade. A child who needs an adult beside them to stay on task, a household with no quiet room at six o'clock, or hands-on equipment work are all better served face to face. If that describes your situation, hire locally and budget for the travel premium the Dubai market charges.

02

How thin local IB specialist supply actually is, by subject

No competitor in this market publishes a coverage limit, which is why most parents discover one only after paying. Ours is published here. The scarce combinations are HL sciences, HL Analysis and Approaches, Computer Science and the less commonly taught options, and the scarce hours are weekday 17:00 to 19:00 Gulf Standard Time in the spring term.

The table below sets out, by subject and level, what to expect. Read the fallback column carefully, because it is the column other providers hide. Where a tutor covering a UAE family is based outside the UAE and teaches on Gulf Standard Time, we say so before you book. A parent is entitled to know who is teaching their child and from where, and two ranking competitors route UAE families to non-UAE phone numbers without mentioning it.

What this means in practice is that timing your request matters as much as making it. A family that books a weekly Chemistry HL slot in September holds it all year. A family that asks for the same slot in March is choosing from what is left. That is not a scarcity tactic; it is how any calendar of one-to-one appointments fills, and it is true of local in-home tutors too.

If a combination genuinely is not available, you will be told the position and offered a choice: a different time with the specialist you wanted, an immediate start with a strong generalist while that slot opens, or a wait with a date attached. What you will not get is a confident yes followed by a substitution.

Eight questions that tell you whether a tutor knows the course

You do not need to be an IB expert to test one. You need eight questions whose answers a specialist produces instantly and a generalist either hedges or gets wrong. Ask them in the trial session, before any discussion of price, and listen for specificity rather than confidence. This is the most portable thing on this page, and it works on us as well as on anyone else.

Notice what none of these questions is about. None asks how many years they have taught, which school they worked at, or how passionate they are about the subject. Those answers are unfalsifiable. The questions below have right answers, and a tutor who cannot produce them has not taught the course to a May session recently.

The table gives each question with the shape of a good answer and the tell-tale weak one. Use three or four rather than all eight if time is short; the paper weighting question and the internal assessment criterion question are the two that discriminate hardest.

Ask them in that order, too. A tutor who has just told you the paper weightings and the criterion letters is giving you a verifiable account of the course, and everything they say afterwards about method can be judged against it. A tutor who opens with their years of experience and their passion for the subject has told you nothing you can check, and in a market with no published coverage data that is all most parents ever get.

One final question to ask, which is not in the table: what will you not do? A specialist answers that they will not write any part of the internal assessment, Extended Essay or TOK essay, and will not promise a grade. If a tutor answers that question by promising a seven, you have learned everything you need to know.

Higher Level and Standard Level are different jobs

Parents book an IB tutor by subject. Tutors should be booked by subject and level, because the gap between Standard and Higher Level in the sciences and mathematics is wider than most people outside the system expect. It is not the same course with extra chapters; the additional content changes the character of the questions and the depth of understanding the papers probe.

This is also where local supply breaks first. A tutor can be genuinely strong at SL across two sciences and out of their depth in HL in either. That is not a criticism; HL depth takes sustained specialist teaching to maintain. It is, however, the single most common mismatch in Dubai IB tutoring, and it is invisible for about four weeks.

The practical implication for a Jumeirah Park family choosing by distance is uncomfortable. The nearer you insist the tutor lives, the more likely you are to be sold SL competence for an HL course. Ask the level question directly and ask for the HL paper structure, as in the table above.

There is a university dimension that parents in this community raise often. For several subjects the degree requirement specifies the Higher Level version, and a Standard Level pass will not satisfy it. That is worth checking against the actual admissions pages of the universities your child is considering, in the UAE and abroad, before anyone drops a level to reduce workload. The decision is easy to make in September of the first Diploma year and painful in March of the second.

The table below sets out what changes between the levels and what it means for how many weeks of support a student realistically needs. Use it when planning rather than when panicking: an HL subject identified as weak in the autumn of the first Diploma year is a different problem from the same subject identified in March of the second.

Who is legally allowed to tutor near you

This is a question almost nobody asks and everybody should. Private tutoring in the UAE is regulated by permit. The Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation private tutor work permit was introduced under Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023, is granted free of charge for two years, and is applied for through the MoHRE smart app, website and e-services system, with the service listed as Issuance of a New Work Permit - Private Tutor Licensing and a two-working-day completion time.

Eligibility is broader than parents expect. u.ae lists teachers registered in government or private schools, employees in the government and private sectors, unemployed individuals, school students aged fifteen to eighteen, and university students. So a university student tutoring your Year 10 for AED 50 an hour can be entirely legitimate. The permit is not a quality signal; it is a legality signal, and the two are often confused in marketing.

There are limits that matter. u.ae states that individuals offering private tutoring without a permit are subject to fines and penalties outlined in the applicable laws, and no fine schedule is published, so treat any specific figure you are quoted with suspicion. In Abu Dhabi, ADEK's professional-ethics rules bar school staff from paid private tutoring of students enrolled at their own school, and the permit's code of conduct carries a similar restriction.

A tutoring business with premises and staff is a different legal animal from an individual tutor; in Dubai that requires a KHDA Educational Services Permit for a training institute. IB Gram does not hold one and does not describe itself as KHDA approved. Ask any tutor you hire whether they hold a MoHRE permit, and ask any agency what it actually holds rather than what it implies.

What the travel premium buys, and what it costs

Since 'near me' is partly a question about money, here is the arithmetic from the other direction: what you pay extra for proximity, and what that extra actually buys. Bestimate's Dubai survey puts in-home one-to-one at AED 180-350 an hour and independent home tutors at AED 200-500, against AED 150-300 for a qualified subject tutor online on Unitors' published figures, where IGCSE starts at AED 150 and IB at AED 200.

So the premium is real but modest in cash terms. What it costs in selection is larger. The tutor willing to make that drive at 17:30 is drawn from a smaller and less specialised group, and the hour you buy includes somebody's commute in its price whether or not it appears as a line item. At the budget end, EdFlik advertises from AED 45-65 and Tutopiya from AED 33-52, which buys supervision rather than specialist teaching.

At the top, TutorChase quotes around AED 270 for specialist work and BartyED's premium examiner-led tier reaches AED 650. Treat examiner claims with care: current examiner status is hard to verify and should never be used to imply access to marking or boundaries. Monthly packages in this market run from around AED 799 for eight online sessions to AED 1,599-1,799 for four two-hour home visits. All figures are the providers' own, read in October 2026.

None of these is an IB Gram price and this page does not publish one, because the right number depends on subject, level and how many weeks remain. The honest guidance is to start with the free trial session and a conversation, then commit to six sessions rather than twenty, and judge on marked timed work.

The IB core, and the line a tutor must not cross

  • Teaching, feedback and process coaching: yes
  • Writing or rewriting any assessed work: never
  • Official papers and mark schemes: cited and linked, not supplied
  • Any grade promise: not something an honest provider will make

Theory of Knowledge, the Extended Essay and CAS are where Diploma students lose points they cannot recover, because the deadlines are internal and the work is independent. They are also where the tutoring market behaves worst. One operator in this SERP sells completed internal assessments outright at four-figure prices, which is an academic-integrity breach and an IB malpractice trigger for the student.

The legitimate version is narrower and more useful. A tutor can teach research question design, explain the assessment criteria, teach referencing and academic conventions, help plan a structure, and read and comment on drafts the student has written. The tutor says which descriptor band the work currently meets and names what is missing. The student then fixes it. That is where the learning is.

What a tutor cannot do is write, part-write, rewrite to completion or supply content for an internal assessment, Extended Essay, TOK essay or Personal Project. We also do not reproduce or distribute IB syllabus documents, past papers or mark schemes; those are cited and linked, and your child's school holds licensed access.

CAS is the component families forget until it becomes urgent. It is not graded, but it has to be completed and evidenced, and a Diploma is not awarded without it. No tutor can do CAS for a student; what a tutor can do is point out in September that the reflection record is part of the requirement, not an afterthought, and that leaving it to the final term adds pressure in exactly the weeks when past papers matter most.

If you are comparing providers near you, this is the fastest way to sort them. Ask what they will do with a draft. The answer either describes feedback against criteria, or it describes improving the writing. The second answer is the one that puts your child's Diploma at risk.

Scheduling from a Jumeirah Park address

  • Workable weekday window: roughly 16:30 to 21:00 Gulf Standard Time
  • 16:00 is realistic only for the school inside the community
  • Saturday morning is the one slot that fits a full past paper
  • Ramadan and travel are handled by rescheduling, not cancelling

Even when distance stops deciding who teaches, it still decides when. Dubai schools finish between roughly 14:30 and 15:30, and a Jumeirah Park bus route that also serves Al Barsha or Jumeirah Village puts most children home between 15:20 and 16:40. There is no metro station inside the community, so the nearest Route 2020 stations at Al Furjan and Discovery Gardens play no part in a tutoring timetable.

That leaves a usable window from about 16:30 to 21:00 on weekdays. Students at the school inside the community can hold a 16:00 slot. Second-year Diploma students often do better at 19:30, after dinner, than at five o'clock when they are still carrying the school day. Booking the wrong hour is the commonest reason a tutoring arrangement stops after five weeks, and it has nothing to do with the tutor.

The week shape matters too. With the weekend on Saturday and Sunday, a Saturday morning slot is the only place a ninety-minute past paper genuinely fits, and Sunday afternoon is the natural time to mark it. For Diploma students in the spring term that pairing does more than two extra weekday hours would.

During Ramadan, school hours shorten and households run later; a post-Iftar session or a late-morning weekend slot usually works better than anything at five. We reschedule rather than cancel, because the May session does not move. Sessions also follow you to another time zone if you travel, provided we know the week before.

Where we tutor

What 'near me' covers from a Jumeirah Park address

If you are filtering by distance, these are the communities inside a realistic weekday radius. The list is short, and that is exactly the point this page is making about specialist supply.

Jumeirah Park

Nine districts of villas with one school inside the community, which is British curriculum rather than IB. Local IB families travel out, so the neighbourhood itself holds very few IB-specialist tutors.

Jumeirah Islands

A small gated villa cluster with no school inside. In tutoring terms it behaves as an extension of Jumeirah Park, with the same thin local supply and slightly later arrivals home.

Jumeirah Village Triangle

The nearest genuine concentration of Diploma students, because Sunmarke School offers the IB DP alongside the British route. Still a small absolute number of HL science candidates.

Jumeirah Village Circle

Dense housing, mixed curricula, and a reasonable number of MYP students. Distance from Jumeirah Park is short, but a weekday evening crossing is slower than the map suggests.

Al Barsha and Al Barsha South

Where most IB continuum schools in this half of Dubai actually are, including Nord Anglia and Dubai International Academy Al Barsha. Twenty minutes off-peak, considerably more at 17:30.

Al Furjan

British-curriculum schools and a Route 2020 metro station. A source of IGCSE enquiries rather than IB, so searching here for a Diploma specialist is unlikely to help.

Jumeirah Golf Estates

Low-density villas with long outward commutes to school. Families here tend to arrive at online tutoring sooner than most, because the travel arithmetic is obvious from the start.

The Meadows and Emirates Hills

Home to Emirates International School Meadows and a longer-established IB population. The nearest area where 'near me' returns a meaningful number of Diploma families.

School ecosystem

IB and Cambridge school communities we support in Jumeirah Park

IB schools within reach of Jumeirah Park

The schools whose internal deadlines, criterion boundaries and subject option blocks our tutors are asked about by families in this community. Programme offerings change, and the regulator's own school listing is where to confirm them.

How matching works

From first enquiry to a tutor who fits

  1. 01

Tell us the programme, subject and level

Programme first, because MYP and Diploma need different tutors. Then the subject and whether it is HL or SL. Then what the last report or marked paper actually said. That is enough to brief a specialist properly, and it takes one message rather than a form.

  2. 02

    Hear the honest availability position

If the combination you want is scarce, you are told before you book, with a date rather than a vague reassurance. If the tutor who fits is based outside the UAE and teaches on Gulf Standard Time, you are told that too, because you are entitled to know who is teaching your child.

  3. 03

Take the free trial session and test them

A full lesson with the tutor who would actually teach, on your child's current material, with no payment. Use the eight questions in the table above. If the tutor cannot name the paper weightings or the internal assessment criteria, tell us and we will change the match.

  4. 04

Fix the slot around the school run

We build the weekly time from when your child reaches Jumeirah Park and is able to think, not from when the bell rings. For most families that means 16:30 or 17:30, and for second-year Diploma students often after dinner. Getting this right is what makes the arrangement last a year.

  5. 05

Review on marked work at six sessions

After about six sessions there is real evidence. We look at timed work rather than impressions and decide whether to continue, add a subject, switch to coursework coaching or stop. Stopping is a legitimate result and better reached deliberately than by drifting out of the habit.

Why families choose us

What UAE parents tell us matters most

Matched on level, not on drive time

A tutor is chosen because they teach that subject at HL or SL and know where the marks go, not because they can reach your district by five. For Higher Level sciences and Analysis and Approaches that distinction is the whole value of the arrangement.

Coverage limits published, not concealed

This page states which subjects are scarce, which hours are scarce and what happens when the specialist you want is not free. No competitor in this market publishes a coverage limit, and that silence is where most of the disappointment in Dubai tutoring originates.

A test you can apply to anyone

The eight questions in the table work on any provider, us included. We would rather you used them and chose someone else than hired a confident generalist for a Higher Level course and found out four weeks later.

Rates shown with their source and date

Every AED figure here belongs to the provider or survey that published it, read in October 2026. Three of the strongest pages in this market publish no price at all and two quote US dollars at families who transact in dirhams.

No claimed approvals and no star ratings

IB Gram holds no KHDA, ADEK, SPEA, Ministry of Education, IB or Cambridge approval and claims none, and does not hold a KHDA Educational Services Permit. There is no self-asserted rating on this page and no statistic without its source.

A published limit on coursework help

We teach, explain criteria and give feedback on the student's own internal assessment, Extended Essay and TOK work, and write none of it. The limit is published so you can hold us to it and compare it with what else you are offered nearby.

Questions parents ask

IB and IGCSE tutoring in Jumeirah Park: your questions answered

Is there actually an IB specialist living near Jumeirah Park?+

Some, but fewer than you would hope, and that is a function of the market rather than the neighbourhood. The International Baccalaureate accounts for roughly 7 per cent of Dubai private school enrolment against 37 per cent on the UK curriculum, so IB families are a minority of a large market. Narrow that to one subject at Higher Level and one villa community in west Dubai and the pool of people who have taught that exact course to a May session is genuinely small. Matching online rather than by distance is how we get around it.

What single question most reliably exposes a tutor who does not know the course?+

Ask for the paper weightings at the level your child is sitting, including the internal assessment percentage. A specialist gives the split without hesitating and usually adds where the marks disappear. A generalist either hedges, quotes the Standard Level structure for a Higher Level course, or talks about experience instead. Follow it with a question about the internal assessment criterion letters. Those two questions together take four minutes and separate specialists from confident generalists more reliably than any amount of credential-reading.

Will my child get a tutor based in the UAE?+

Sometimes, and sometimes not, and we tell you which before you book. All lessons are scheduled on Gulf Standard Time so the timetable is identical either way, but a parent is entitled to know who is teaching their child and from where. Some subject specialists covering UAE families are based elsewhere. Two ranking competitors in this market route UAE parents to non-UAE phone numbers without disclosing it, which we think is the wrong way to handle the same fact.

Can a tutor who teaches A Level also teach IB Chemistry HL?+

Sometimes, but do not assume it. The content overlaps substantially; the assessment does not. IB Chemistry has an internal assessment marked against published criteria, a Paper 3 with data analysis and an option topic, and command terms with specific expectations. A strong A Level chemist who has never marked an IB internal assessment will teach the chemistry well and the assessment badly. Ask what they will do with an internal assessment draft and whether they can name the criteria before you decide.

How quickly can you match a specialist for a Jumeirah Park student?+

For most subjects, within the same week. For Physics HL, Chemistry HL, Maths Analysis and Approaches HL and Computer Science in a weekday 17:00 to 19:00 slot during the spring term, it can be up to two weeks and we quote a date rather than a hope. The alternatives we offer are an off-peak slot with the specialist you wanted, an interim start with a strong generalist and a stated handover, or a wait. You will not be given a confident yes and a quiet substitution.

Is a MoHRE permit something I should be asking a tutor to show me?+

An individual providing private lessons needs a private tuition work permit from the Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation, introduced under Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023. It is free of charge, valid for two years, and applied for through MoHRE's app, website or e-services with a two-working-day completion time. Eligible applicants include school teachers, government and private-sector employees, unemployed residents, university students and school students aged fifteen to eighteen. u.ae states that tutoring without a permit attracts fines and penalties under the applicable laws, and no fine amounts are published.

My child is choosing Higher Level subjects next term. Can tutoring help with the decision?+

Yes, and a single diagnostic session is usually enough. A specialist works through material at the Higher Level standard with the student and reports back on whether the prior attainment and study habit are there, rather than whether the student likes the subject. Higher Level is wider and less scaffolded than Standard Level, not simply longer, and a mid-course change is disruptive. Check the degree requirement too: for several subjects, universities expect the Higher Level version and a Standard Level pass will not satisfy it.

Is online tutoring a compromise for Diploma students?+

For Diploma students, we do not think so. What moves a Diploma grade is command of the syllabus, criterion knowledge and timed past-paper practice, all of which work at least as well with a shared screen as with two people over one sheet of paper. A sixteen-year-old can also hold a focused hour on video. The real exceptions are younger children who cannot sustain attention, households without a quiet room, and hands-on equipment work. Say so at the consultation if that is your situation.

What should I pay for a Higher Level science tutor in this area?+

Published Dubai figures put a qualified subject tutor online at AED 150-300 an hour, with Unitors quoting IB from AED 200, and specialist IB and IGCSE work at AED 200-450 or more on Bestimate's survey, with TutorChase around AED 270. In-home visits carry a travel premium at AED 180-500. Budget providers advertise from AED 33-65, which buys supervision rather than Higher Level teaching. Those are the providers' own figures read in October 2026. We publish no rate card because the right number depends on subject, level and weeks remaining.

Which schools near Jumeirah Park actually run the Diploma?+

Within a reasonable radius, families most often name Sunmarke School in Jumeirah Village Triangle, Nord Anglia International School Dubai in Al Barsha South, Dubai International Academy Al Barsha and GEMS World Academy Dubai in Al Barsha, Emirates International School Meadows, Raffles World Academy in Umm Suqeim and Fairgreen International School. The school inside Jumeirah Park itself is British curriculum. We have no affiliation with any of these schools and name them as context; confirm current programmes on KHDA's own school listing before enrolling.

How far can a tutor go in supporting Extended Essay work?+

A tutor can help your child write it in the sense of teaching research question design, method, structure and referencing, and giving feedback on drafts your child has produced. A tutor cannot write, part-write or rewrite any of it, and we will not. Submitting work that is not the student's own is a malpractice matter the IB handles, and the consequence falls on the student. There are operators in this market selling completed internal assessments at four-figure prices; treat that offer as a reason to walk away.

Suppose the first match does not suit my child. Then what?+

Tell us and we change the tutor rather than asking your child to persist. That is the point of running a free trial session first: the pairing is tested before you pay for a term of it. Fit failures are usually not about competence. A tutor who talks for fifty minutes can be entirely expert and still wrong for a student who needs to be made to work. Judge the trial on whether your child spoke and whether the tutor diagnosed rather than lectured.

Are weekend sessions better than weekday ones for Diploma work?+

For long work, yes. With the UAE weekend on Saturday and Sunday, a Saturday morning slot is the only place in the week where a full timed paper genuinely fits, and marking it with the tutor on Sunday is where most of the learning happens. Weekday evenings suit shorter targeted work on a single topic. Many Jumeirah Park Diploma families settle on one weekday hour plus a weekend pairing in the spring term rather than three weekday evenings.

Does my child's school inspection rating tell me whether they need a tutor?+

Almost nothing. KHDA inspects Dubai private schools annually on a six-band scale from Outstanding to Very Weak and publishes the result, which is genuinely useful when choosing a school. It tells you nothing about whether your child is secure in equilibrium calculations or can structure a Paper 2 comparative essay. Use the inspection rating for enrolment decisions and your child's own marked work for tutoring decisions. We read the school report and the last timed paper, not the inspection band.

Should we wait until after the mocks to start?+

Usually not. Waiting for the mock means losing the autumn term and then competing for spring slots in exactly the scarce subjects where supply is tightest. If you already suspect a Higher Level subject is weak, a single diagnostic session now tells you whether you are right, costs little and does not commit you to anything. If the mock then confirms it, the tutor is already in place and the marked paper becomes the plan rather than the starting gun.

Search by syllabus, schedule by school run

The useful version of an IB tutor near me in Jumeirah Park search is this: decide the programme, subject and level, then test any tutor with the paper weighting and criterion questions in the table above, then fix the session to the hour your child is genuinely home and able to think. Distance is the one variable that affects neither the teaching nor the outcome. Lessons from IB Gram run live online, one to one, on Gulf Standard Time, with a free trial session first and the coverage position stated before you book rather than after.
