IB Physics Tutor in Jumeirah Park

An IB physics tutor in Jumeirah Park is one of the more expensive hires a Diploma family makes, because Higher Level physics specialists are scarce in this city. This page leads with the money: the published Dubai rates, what each band actually buys, why physics costs more to staff than most subjects, and how to spend less by starting earlier. Lessons are live online, one to one.

IB & IGCSE in Jumeirah Park

What IB physics support costs, and why

Physics sits at the expensive end of the Dubai tutoring market for a straightforward reason: the supply of people who can teach Higher Level physics well is much smaller than the demand for them. Published rates put a qualified subject tutor online at AED 150-300 an hour, and specialist IB work at AED 200-450 or more on Bestimate's Dubai survey, with TutorChase quoting around AED 270. At the premium end BartyED publishes AED 650.

So the first thing worth saying to a Jumeirah Park family is that the budget end of the market is not a cheaper version of the same thing. Tutopiya advertises from AED 33-52 an hour and EdFlik from AED 45-65. That buys homework supervision, which has real value for a student who will not start without company, and almost none for a student who cannot interpret a Paper 2 extended-response question about induction.

The second thing is to plan monthly rather than hourly. Bestimate estimates AED 240-600 a month for a weekly budget arrangement, AED 600-1,200 mid-market, and AED 1,000-2,000 or more for specialist exam-year support in one subject. Physics sits in the upper two bands if the tutoring is going to do anything, and that number decides whether the arrangement survives a term.

The third, and the one that saves the most money, is timing. Physics compounds: mechanics underpins fields, fields underpin induction, and a student who never properly understood vector resolution in the first term will struggle with everything that rests on it. A weekly hour from the autumn of the first Diploma year costs more in total hours and far less in total money than an emergency programme in the spring of the second.

On delivery, IB Gram matches your child to a physics specialist and teaches live online, one to one, on Gulf Standard Time. IB Gram does not send tutors to homes anywhere in the UAE; home visits are an India-only service. For physics this is less of a compromise than parents assume, because the work is diagrams, derivations and marked past papers, all of which live better on a shared screen than on a kitchen table.

For household context, KHDA confirmed on 22 May 2026 that private school fees in Dubai would not rise for the 2026-27 academic year, under the emirate's second economic incentives package. That stabilises one line in the budget while you plan this one, which is a better starting position than families here have had for several years.

What it does mean is that you are not paying a travel premium. Bestimate puts in-home one-to-one in Dubai at AED 180-350 an hour and independent home tutors at AED 200-500. The difference against the online specialist band is a commute across Al Khail Road at half past five, and in physics the tutor you most want is the least likely to make it.

At a glance

  • Specialist IB physics sits in the AED 200-450+ published band
  • Below AED 100 an hour you are buying supervision, not physics
  • Plan from a monthly figure: AED 600-2,000+ depending on tier
  • Starting in the first Diploma year is the main cost control
  • Lessons are live online; there is no UAE home-visit option

Every IB programme stage, mapped to UAE school years

Physics support for Jumeirah Park families arrives at three points, and the price per useful hour differs sharply between them.

MYPAges 11-16 · Years 7-11

MYP Sciences

Assessed against four criteria covering knowledge and understanding, inquiry and design, processing and evaluating, and reflecting on the impacts of science. Marks are lost on process: a method that cannot be repeated, a variable not controlled, an evaluation that says the experiment went well. Content recall is rarely the issue.

This is the cheapest physics support a family in this community can buy, because the habits built here are the ones Diploma physics assumes. A term of MYP work costs a fraction of a Diploma rescue block and removes much of the need for one.

DPAges 16-19 · Years 12-13

Physics Standard Level

Mechanics, thermal physics, waves, electricity and magnetism, circular motion and gravitation, atomic and nuclear physics, and energy production, with an internal investigation. Standard Level still demands genuine quantitative work, and students who chose it to reduce the load are often surprised by the mathematics.

Standard Level physics is easier to staff than Higher Level, which shows in both availability and price. A Jumeirah Park family needing SL support in the spring term will usually be matched the same week.

DPAges 16-19 · Years 12-13

Physics Higher Level

The Standard Level content extended, with additional depth in fields, electromagnetic induction, quantum and nuclear physics and more demanding mathematical treatment throughout. The extended-response questions assume the student can combine two or three ideas in one answer, which is where most of the difference in marks appears.

Higher Level physics is one of the scarcest tutoring combinations in Dubai, and the scarcity is worst in the weekday 17:00 to 19:00 window during the spring term. Booking in the autumn is the difference between a specialist and a compromise.

DPBoth levels

The scientific investigation

An independent investigation, internally assessed and externally moderated, worth around a fifth of the grade on the current published structure. It is the most coachable component in the course and the one most often left until the school's internal deadline is three weeks away.

The internal deadline is set by your child's school and typically falls a long way before the written papers. Treating the May session as the deadline that matters is the most common planning error we see from this community.

Subject coverage

IB and IGCSE subjects we tutor

What physics tutoring actually works on, topic by topic, with the place each one costs marks. These double as test questions for any tutor you are considering.

Mechanics and kinematics

HL and SL

Motion graphs, Newton's laws, momentum and energy. The failure that matters is vector resolution: students who resolve on autopilot rather than from the geometry get inclined-plane and circular-motion questions wrong for two years. Fixing it early pays for itself across the whole course.

Circular motion and gravitation

HL and SL

Centripetal acceleration, orbital motion and gravitational fields. Students confuse the force providing the centripetal effect with a separate force acting outward, and the error survives revision because it is conceptual rather than computational. It needs diagram work, not more formulae.

Waves and oscillations

HL and SL

Simple harmonic motion, interference, diffraction, standing waves and the Doppler effect. Phase and path difference questions are where marks disappear, usually because the student has memorised a condition without being able to draw the situation that produces it.

Electricity and circuits

HL and SL

Current, potential difference, resistance, internal resistance and circuit analysis. The potential divider is the single most reliably mishandled topic in the course. Students treat circuits algebraically when the reliable approach is to reason about the physical situation first and then calculate.

Fields and electromagnetic induction

Higher Level emphasis

Gravitational, electric and magnetic fields treated together, with induction, flux and Lenz's law. This is where Higher Level separates from Standard Level, and where a generalist tutor usually runs out of depth about four weeks in. It needs a specialist and it needs time.

Thermal physics and energy

HL and SL

Specific heat capacity, latent heat, the gas laws and energy production and transfer. Calculation marks are usually secure; explanation marks are not, because students describe what happens without naming the mechanism the question asked about.

Atomic, nuclear and quantum physics

HL and SL

Radioactive decay, binding energy, mass defect and, at Higher Level, quantum phenomena. Mass-energy calculations are a frequent source of unit and order-of-magnitude errors, and the quantum material arrives late in the course and is routinely under-revised.

Data analysis and uncertainties

HL and SL

Reading graphs, gradients with units, error bars and propagated uncertainty. It appears both in the written papers and in the investigation, which makes it the best-value topic to tutor in the whole subject: one skill, marks in two places.

Extended-response technique

HL and SL

Long answers that require combining two or three ideas, with explicit reference to the physical mechanism. Students lose marks by describing the outcome rather than explaining the cause, and by abandoning a multi-part question after one blocked step. Trainable with marked past papers.

The scientific investigation

HL and SL

Research design, data analysis, conclusion and evaluation, marked against published criteria. A tutor may teach the criteria, help narrow a research question, teach uncertainty treatment and comment on the student's own drafts. A tutor may not write, part-write or supply any of it.

How sessions run

Tutoring formats built around UAE school timetables

Three ways to buy physics support, priced and timed differently. All are live online, one to one, on Gulf Standard Time.

Weekly from the first Diploma year

One fixed hour a week alongside the school's teaching sequence. For physics this is the pattern that controls total cost, because the subject compounds and a misunderstanding in mechanics becomes four misunderstandings in fields. It also secures a slot before the spring squeeze when HL physics specialists fill up.

  • Same tutor, same slot, tracked against school assessments
  • Vector and uncertainty work built in from the start
  • Short written note after each session
  • Frequency rises for mocks and the final term

Investigation coaching block

A defined run of sessions around the school's internal deadline: narrowing a research question, designing a method that can be executed and justified, handling uncertainties, and feedback on the student's own drafts against the published criteria. The tutor reads and comments and writes nothing.

  • Research question narrowed before any data is collected
  • Uncertainty treatment taught explicitly
  • Criterion-by-criterion feedback on the student's draft
  • Timed to the school deadline, not the exam

Final-term paper programme

Two or three sessions a week in the last weeks, entirely past papers under timed conditions and marked line by line. Extended-response technique gets explicit attention, because that is where Higher Level marks are recoverable and where students most often stop early.

  • Papers under time, then marked together
  • Topic list rebuilt weekly from errors
  • Explicit work on explanation versus description
  • The most expensive pattern per unit of improvement

What IB and IGCSE study actually looks like in Jumeirah Park

01

What you are buying at each price point

The published spread in this city is roughly twentyfold, and in physics the bands are not variations on one product. Below AED 100 an hour, on figures from Tutopiya at AED 33-52 and EdFlik at AED 45-65, you are buying a person who sits with a student while they work. That is genuinely useful for a student who cannot start, and it will not teach induction.

From around AED 150, on Unitors' published IGCSE-from-150 and IB-from-200 figures, you reach a tutor who teaches the syllabus and marks to the scheme. This is the realistic floor for Diploma physics. From AED 200-450 or more, on Bestimate's specialist band with TutorChase at around AED 270, you are buying Higher Level depth: someone who has taken students through fields and induction to a May session.

Above that, BartyED's AED 650 premium tier is buying scarcity and reputation. For a scarce Higher Level subject in the final weeks a genuinely expert tutor can justify it, but treat examiner claims carefully: current examiner status is hard to verify and must never be used to imply access to marking, grade boundaries or paper content. Ask what evidences the claim.

In-home visits sit at AED 180-350 on Bestimate's figures, with independent home tutors at AED 200-500, and that premium is travel rather than expertise. All figures here are the providers' or survey's own, read in October 2026, and none of them is an IB Gram price. We publish no rate card because the right number depends on level and weeks remaining.

Why Higher Level physics costs more to staff

This is the supply side of the price, and it is rarely explained. Teaching Higher Level physics well requires someone comfortable with fields, induction and quantum phenomena at the level the extended-response questions probe, plus the mathematics to support it, plus familiarity with how the investigation is marked. That combination is scarce everywhere and particularly scarce in any one city neighbourhood.

Demand is also concentrated. Across Dubai, physics tutoring requests cluster in the same weeks, around mocks and the final term, and in the same hours, weekday 17:00 to 19:00. A tutor with four Higher Level students already has a full early evening. Insisting that the same person also drive into Jumeirah Park eliminates most of the remaining candidates.

The consequence for a family here is that timing is leverage. Booking a weekly Higher Level physics slot in September costs the same per hour as booking one in March and gets a materially better tutor, because in September the specialist's evening is not yet full. That is not a scarcity tactic; it is how any calendar of one-to-one appointments fills.

We publish the position rather than conceal it. The table shows typical availability and what we offer when a combination is not free. Where a specialist covering a UAE family is based outside the UAE and teaches on Gulf Standard Time, we say so before you book, because two ranking competitors in this market route UAE parents to non-UAE numbers without mentioning it.

How physics is assessed, and what that means for spending

Knowing the structure stops you buying the wrong hours. On the current published arrangement, physics is examined by written papers that combine multiple-choice and data-based questions with extended response, alongside an internally assessed scientific investigation worth around a fifth of the grade at both levels. Structures and weightings are set by the IB and revised between syllabus cycles.

The spending implication is that about a fifth of the mark is coursework with an internal deadline, and it is the most coachable fifth in the course. A block of sessions on the investigation, bought in the term the school sets it, is better value per dirham than the same hours spent on content revision in the final weeks. Almost nobody sequences it that way.

The second implication concerns data analysis. Graph reading, gradients with units, error bars and propagated uncertainty appear both in the written papers and in the investigation. One skill, marks in two places, which makes it the single best-value topic in physics to tutor. It is also routinely skipped because it feels like mathematics rather than physics.

A third implication is about the multiple-choice section, which rewards breadth with no gaps. A student who understands fields deeply and has never properly revised energy production will drop marks that a weaker but more evenly prepared candidate collects. That argues for coverage auditing late in the course rather than more depth in the topics the student already enjoys, and it is a cheap thing to do well.

Confirm the current paper structure and weightings with your child's teacher or the school's copy of the subject guide rather than from any tutoring page, this one included. The table sets out the components as commonly published, with that caution attached, and what each demands.

04

The investigation, criterion by criterion

This is the part of the course where money is best spent and most often wasted. On the current published arrangement the sciences investigation is marked against four criteria -- research design, data analysis, conclusion and evaluation -- for a total of twenty-four marks. Criterion names and allocations are set by the IB and change between syllabus cycles, so confirm them against your school's copy of the current guide.

The distribution explains the common failure. Research design carries as much as data analysis, which means a student who collects excellent data for a poorly framed question has already lost marks they cannot recover later. The single most useful hour of tutoring in the whole investigation happens before any apparatus is touched, narrowing the research question until it can genuinely be answered.

Evaluation is the second place marks disappear. Students write a conclusion and call it an evaluation: restating the result rather than assessing the method, the sources of uncertainty, and what a different approach would have improved. That is a writing and reasoning skill, teachable in two or three sessions, and worth several marks.

What a tutor may do here is explain each criterion, help narrow the question, teach uncertainty treatment and graphical analysis, and read the student's draft and name which descriptor band it currently meets. What a tutor may not do is write, part-write, rewrite or supply any of it. We publish that limit because operators in this market do not observe it, and the consequence falls on the student.

05

Where physics marks actually disappear

  • Conceptual errors are few, findable and permanent once fixed
  • Unit and significant-figure discipline is the cheapest marks available
  • Extended response needs marked papers, not more content
  • Data analysis earns marks in the papers and the investigation
  • A plan to start at topic one means the paper was not read

Three categories, and they need different money spent on them. The first is conceptual: vector resolution done by habit rather than geometry, the belief in an outward force in circular motion, potential dividers treated algebraically instead of physically. These are few in number, identifiable from one marked paper, and once corrected they stay corrected.

The second is presentation of correct physics. Units omitted from a gradient, significant figures inconsistent across an answer, a derived quantity quoted to five figures from two-figure data. Examiner-level discipline here recovers marks on every paper and costs very little to teach, which makes it the cheapest improvement available in the subject.

The third is extended-response technique. A question asking why something happens, answered by saying what happens. A four-mark question abandoned after the first blocked step. An answer that names the right physics without connecting it to the specific situation in the question. This is trainable with marked past papers and a conversation about each decision.

There is a fourth thing that looks like a physics problem and is not: the mathematics. A student who cannot rearrange a formula with the subject on both sides, or who resolves vectors by remembering which is sine and which is cosine rather than reading the triangle, will fail physics questions for mathematical reasons. A session or two of algebra inside a physics hour often moves more marks than more physics would.

A physics tutor should be able to tell you in the first session which of the three dominates for your child, from a marked paper. If the answer is a plan to revise the syllabus from topic one, the paper has not been read. That distinction is worth more to your budget than any hourly rate negotiation.

06

Practical work when the lessons are online

  • Practical work stays at school, with the school's apparatus
  • Research design and data analysis are paper work, and most of the marks
  • A shared screen suits uncertainty and graph work well
  • Hands-on equipment coaching is a genuine case for in-person help

This is the honest limitation and the question Jumeirah Park parents ask most. Your child's practical physics happens at school, with the school's apparatus, under the teacher's supervision, and no tutor substitutes for that. What a tutor can do is everything around it, which turns out to be where most of the investigation marks actually sit.

Before the laboratory: narrowing a research question, choosing a measurable variable, identifying what has to be controlled, and planning the range and number of readings so that the data will support a conclusion. These decisions are made on paper, they determine most of the research design mark, and they are made better with a specialist on a screen than alone at a desk.

After the laboratory: processing the data, plotting with error bars, finding a gradient with units, propagating uncertainty, and writing an evaluation that assesses the method rather than restating the result. Again entirely paper work, and the part students handle worst. A shared screen with the spreadsheet open is a better environment for it than two people over a printed table.

If your child needs hands-on equipment coaching specifically, that is one of the genuine cases where in-person provision is better and we will say so. IB Gram does not offer home visits in the UAE and has no centre here, so for that requirement you need a local provider and should expect the published in-home premium of AED 180-500 an hour.

Scheduling physics from a Jumeirah Park address

Physics needs a slot where the student can concentrate for a full hour on something cumulative, which in this community means working around the school run. Dubai schools finish between roughly 14:30 and 15:30, and a Jumeirah Park bus route serving Al Barsha or Jumeirah Village returns most students between 15:20 and 16:40 depending on district.

There is no metro station inside Jumeirah Park, so the nearest Route 2020 stations at Al Furjan and Discovery Gardens have no bearing on a tutoring timetable. The practical window is roughly 16:30 to 21:00 on weekdays. Students at the school inside the community can hold 16:00; second-year Diploma students frequently do better at 19:30, after dinner, because derivation work needs a settled mind more than an early one.

For long work use the weekend. A Saturday morning slot is the only ninety-minute block in a Jumeirah Park week, and it is the right place for a full timed paper or for processing investigation data properly. Marking the paper together on Sunday is where the improvement happens rather than in the sitting of it.

Ramadan moves all of that. School hours shorten, so the bus returns well before the usual window, and households run later; a post-Iftar session or a late-morning weekend slot works better than anything at five in the afternoon, which during Ramadan is the least useful hour of the day for cumulative work. The Saturday block stays the right place for a timed paper, it simply starts later. We reschedule rather than cancel, and because nobody drives to a Jumeirah Park address a reschedule is a slot swap rather than a negotiation about somebody's evening.

One last scheduling point that applies to physics more than to other subjects: protect the week before a school assessment rather than the night before it. A session three days out can still change the method a student uses; a session the evening before changes nothing except anxiety. Families who plan around their child's internal assessment calendar rather than the exam date get noticeably more from the same number of hours.

What we will not sell, and what we do not claim

  • No coursework written, part-written or supplied
  • No grade guarantees and no money-back improvement claims
  • No ratings, no unsourced statistics
  • No reproduced papers or mark schemes
  • No regulator or board approval claimed, because none is held

On a page about cost it matters to say what is not for sale. We do not write, part-write, rewrite or supply any part of a scientific investigation, Extended Essay or other assessed work. A tutor teaches the criteria and gives feedback on the student's own drafts. One operator in this market sells completed internal assessments at four-figure prices; that is a malpractice trigger and the risk lands on the student.

We do not sell grade guarantees, promised score improvements or money-back schemes, because nobody can honestly deliver one. We publish no rating, review count or satisfaction percentage, because a statistic without its sample size, date and method is a liability rather than a credential, and several providers in this market publish two conflicting ratings on a single page.

We do not reproduce or distribute IB subject guides, past papers, mark schemes or grade-boundary tables. They are cited and linked; your child's school holds licensed access to what it needs. Anyone offering a folder of exam material is offering a copyright problem rather than an advantage.

And we claim no approval we do not hold. IB Gram is not approved, accredited or licensed by KHDA, ADEK, SPEA, the Ministry of Education, the Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation, the IB, Cambridge or Pearson, and holds no KHDA Educational Services Permit. Individual tutors in the UAE need a MoHRE private tuition work permit, introduced under Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023, free of charge and valid for two years.

Where we tutor

Where physics students around Jumeirah Park study

Physics enquiries from this part of Dubai cluster around a small number of Diploma schools, which is both why the subject is scarce locally and why online matching solves it.

Jumeirah Park

Villa community whose own school runs the British curriculum, so local Diploma physics students travel out. That makes the number of HL physics candidates with a Jumeirah Park address genuinely small.

Jumeirah Islands

No school inside the gates and a small resident Diploma population. Families here reach the online conclusion quickly because there is no plausible local physics specialist to find.

Jumeirah Village Triangle

Sunmarke School offers the Diploma, so JVT holds the nearest group of physics candidates to Jumeirah Park. Still a modest absolute number at Higher Level.

Al Barsha and Al Barsha South

Most of the IB continuum schools in this half of Dubai sit here, including Nord Anglia and Dubai International Academy Al Barsha. Buses back to Jumeirah Park arrive 16:00 to 16:40.

The Meadows and Emirates Hills

Emirates International School Meadows has a long-standing Diploma cohort, and physics enquiries from this direction tend to arrive in the first Diploma year rather than the second.

Jumeirah Golf Estates

Low density, long outward commutes and a strong preference for fixed evening slots booked for the whole year. The travel arithmetic against an in-home physics tutor is obvious from here.

Jumeirah Village Circle

Mixed curricula and a reasonable MYP sciences population. The constraint on sessions here is a quiet room rather than a commute, which matters for derivation-heavy work.

How matching works

From first enquiry to a tutor who fits

  1. 01

Tell us the level and send one marked paper

Higher or Standard Level, and one recent marked assessment. The paper tells a specialist whether the problem is conceptual, presentational or technique-based, and those need different numbers of sessions. It also stops the trial lesson being spent on discovery.

  2. 02

Decide a monthly figure you can hold

Work from Bestimate's monthly bands rather than an hourly rate: roughly AED 600-1,200 mid-market and AED 1,000-2,000 or more for specialist exam-year support in one subject. An arrangement priced optimistically and stopped in week six is worse value than a sustainable one.

  3. 03

Book the slot before the spring squeeze

Higher Level physics specialists fill their early evenings first. A weekly slot booked in the autumn costs the same per hour as one booked in March and gets a better tutor, because in autumn the specialist's calendar is still open. We tell you the wait if there is one.

  4. 04

    Take the free trial session

A full lesson with the matched tutor on your child's material, no payment and no card details. Ask them which components carry what weight, and what each investigation criterion rewards. If they cannot answer, tell us and we change the match rather than asking you to persist.

  5. 05

Review on a timed paper at six sessions

We look at marked evidence: do the question types that previously failed now score, and can your child explain a mechanism unprompted? If not, the match, the frequency or the diagnosis changes. Buying more hours against a wrong diagnosis is the main way physics budgets are wasted.

A tutor strong at Standard Level physics is not automatically useful for fields and induction at Higher Level. We match on level, state the wait when a Higher Level slot is scarce, and do not substitute quietly when the specialist you asked for is full.

Coverage limits published

This page says which combinations are scarce, which hours are scarce, and what we offer instead. No competitor in this market publishes a coverage limit, and that silence is where most of the disappointment in Dubai tutoring comes from.

Spending sequenced, not maximised

We will tell you that a block on the investigation in the term it is set is better value than the same hours of content revision in May, and that data analysis earns marks in two places. Sequencing beats volume, and it costs you less.

The investigation coached, never written

We teach the four criteria, help narrow the research question, teach uncertainty treatment and give feedback on the student's drafts. We write none of it. That limit is published because several operators in this market do not observe it.

Honest about the limits of online

Practical work stays at school, and if your child needs hands-on equipment coaching we will say that a local provider is the right answer. We would rather lose the booking than take money for something the format does not do well.

Questions parents ask

IB and IGCSE tutoring in Jumeirah Park: your questions answered

Why is physics tutoring more expensive than most other subjects here?+

Because the supply of tutors who can teach Higher Level physics well is much smaller than demand, and demand concentrates in the same weeks and the same early-evening hours. Published Dubai figures put specialist IB tuition at AED 200-450 or more, with TutorChase around AED 270 and a premium tier at AED 650 on BartyED's figures. A qualified online subject tutor sits at AED 150-300. The budget band of AED 33-65 buys supervision, which does not teach induction.

Can we reduce the cost by starting physics support later?+

Usually it increases it. Physics compounds: mechanics underpins fields and fields underpin induction, so a misunderstanding from the first term multiplies. Starting in the spring of the second Diploma year means more sessions per week, at the scarcest time, competing for the fullest calendars, which is the highest cost per unit of improvement available. One weekly hour from the first year is both cheaper in total and more effective, and it secures a better tutor.

Does a physics tutor come to the villa in Jumeirah Park?+

No. IB Gram does not offer home visits anywhere in the UAE; that service runs in India only, and there is no centre here either. Physics tuition for Jumeirah Park families is live online, one tutor to one student, on Gulf Standard Time, with a shared surface for diagrams and derivations. Published in-home rates in Dubai run AED 180-500 an hour including travel, and the premium buys the commute rather than more physics. If presence in the room is essential, hire locally.

How does my child do practical physics if the tutoring is online?+

The practical work happens at school with the school's apparatus and the teacher's supervision, as it would anyway. What a tutor adds is the paperwork around it, which is where most investigation marks sit: narrowing the research question, deciding what to control, planning the range of readings, then processing data, plotting with error bars, propagating uncertainty and writing an evaluation. All of that is better done on a shared screen than alone. Hands-on equipment coaching is the genuine exception, and for that you need a local provider.

What are the four marks allocations in the sciences investigation?+

On the current published arrangement, four criteria share twenty-four marks: research design, data analysis, conclusion and evaluation, with six marks each. Criterion names and allocations are set by the IB and revised between syllabus cycles, so confirm against your school's copy of the current subject guide. The practical consequence is that design carries as much as analysis, so the most valuable hour happens before any apparatus is used, narrowing the question until it can genuinely be answered.

Where does my child lose physics marks if the physics is right?+

Presentation and technique. Units omitted from a gradient, significant figures inconsistent within an answer, a value quoted to five figures from two-figure data. Then extended-response habits: answering why something happens by describing what happens, or abandoning a four-mark question after one blocked step. These are the cheapest marks in the subject to recover and the least often taught, because they feel too obvious to spend a session on. They are visible on any marked paper.

Is Higher Level physics genuinely harder, or just longer?+

Genuinely different in character. The additional material in fields, induction and quantum physics is not simply more content; the extended-response questions assume a student can combine two or three ideas in one answer with explicit reference to mechanism. That is where the marks separate. It is also why a tutor who is strong at Standard Level can run out of depth about four weeks into Higher Level work, which is the most common mismatch in Dubai physics tutoring.

How many physics sessions a week does a Diploma student need?+

One a week from the start of the first Diploma year, rising to two or three per week in the final weeks before the May session. More than that early in the course is usually wasted, because the student needs time to work between sessions and the school is still covering content. The pattern that costs least overall is weekly and early; the pattern that costs most is three a week from February, which is also when the scarcest tutors are least available.

Could the physics tutor also pick up the mathematics?+

At Standard Level often yes, and the overlap is useful because many physics errors are mathematical. At Higher Level we usually advise two tutors, because genuine depth in both Physics HL and Analysis and Approaches HL is rare and a tutor stretched across both tends to be strong in one. Two fixed evenings is also easier to protect in a Jumeirah Park household than one long combined session after a late bus. Ask directly which level they have taught each subject at.

After six physics sessions, what evidence should we be looking at?+

Specific question types that previously failed now scoring on timed work, and your child able to explain a mechanism without prompting rather than describing an outcome. Not a predicted grade. If the marked evidence has not moved in six sessions, the match, the frequency or our diagnosis is wrong and one of those should change rather than more hours being bought. No honest provider will promise a grade, a mark or a percentage improvement.

Is it worth paying premium rates for an examiner-led physics tutor?+

Occasionally, with caution. For a scarce Higher Level subject in the final weeks, genuine expertise can justify the top of the market, which reaches AED 650 an hour on BartyED's published figures. But current examiner status is hard to verify, it must never be used to imply access to marking, boundaries or paper content, and it is not a substitute for teaching skill. Ask what evidences the claim. For most students the AED 200-450 specialist band does the work.

Our child is moving from IGCSE into Diploma physics. What should we buy?+

A short bridging block in the summer, focused on the mathematics rather than the physics. The gap into Diploma physics is usually vector resolution, rearrangement, graph interpretation and confidence with uncertainties, not unfamiliar content. Six to eight sessions with nothing else in the diary removes most of the first-term difficulty that otherwise needs weekly support to fix. It is the cheapest useful physics tutoring available to a family in this community.

Do you cover MYP sciences for a younger child?+

Yes, and it is both cheaper and more valuable than most parents expect. MYP sciences is marked against criteria covering inquiry and design, processing and evaluating, and reflection, and marks are lost on process rather than content: a method that cannot be repeated, an uncontrolled variable, an evaluation that reports success. Those are exactly the habits Diploma physics assumes. A tutor needs the school's own task sheet and descriptors, which screen sharing handles well.

What happens if the Higher Level specialist we want is fully booked?+

You get told, with a date rather than a reassurance. The options are an off-peak or weekend slot with the specialist you wanted, an immediate start with a strong generalist and a stated handover date, or a wait. In the spring term, weekday 17:00 to 19:00 Higher Level physics can run to two weeks. Where a tutor is based outside the UAE and teaches on Gulf Standard Time we say so before you book, because you are entitled to know who is teaching your child.

Can sessions pause during exams or shift during Ramadan?+

Yes to both. Many families pause in the fortnight when written papers are actually running and resume afterwards if a resit or the next year is in view. During Ramadan school hours shorten and households run later, so a post-Iftar slot or a late-morning weekend session usually works better than anything at five in the afternoon. Because no tutor travels, a reschedule is a slot swap rather than a renegotiation, and the weekly slot is held either way.

Sequence the spending, then book early

If you are pricing an IB physics tutor in Jumeirah Park, three decisions matter more than the hourly rate. Start in the first Diploma year rather than the second, because physics compounds and late help costs more for less. Spend a block on the investigation in the term the school sets it, because around a fifth of the grade sits there and it is the most coachable fifth. And buy data analysis early, because it earns marks in the papers and the investigation both. Our lessons are live online, one to one, with a free trial session first.
