IGCSE Home Tutor in Jumeirah Park

Before you hire an IGCSE home tutor in Jumeirah Park, find out two things: which board your child's school enters them with, and whether each subject is Core or Extended. Those two answers change the papers, the grade ceiling and the tutor you need. IB Gram matches the tutor to the exact syllabus code and teaches live online from your own villa in Jumeirah Park.

IB & IGCSE in Jumeirah Park

The two questions that decide which IGCSE tutor you need

Most parents in Jumeirah Park begin with the subject and the grade. The more useful starting point is the entry. Cambridge IGCSE Mathematics 0580 and Pearson Edexcel International GCSE Mathematics A 4MA1 are different qualifications with different paper structures, and a tutor who prepares a child for the wrong one will produce confident work that scores badly. Your child's school has made that choice already; the exams officer can tell you in a sentence.

The second question is tier. Cambridge offers many subjects at Core and Extended. Core caps the available grades and covers less content; Extended goes further and carries the higher grades. Schools make the decision on the basis of Year 9 and Year 10 performance, sometimes earlier than the parent realises, and sometimes it can still be changed. If your child is capped at Core in a subject they need for sixth form, that is the conversation to have before you book any tutoring at all.

Only once those two are settled does the tutoring question make sense. An IGCSE home tutor in Jumeirah Park is, in practice, someone who can work through past papers for one specific syllabus code at one specific tier, mark to the published scheme, and tell your child what the examiner wanted rather than what the textbook says. That skill is subject-specific and board-specific, and it has nothing to do with where anyone lives.

On delivery, we are direct. IB Gram does not send tutors to homes anywhere in the UAE. Home visits are an India-only service. What we provide to Jumeirah Park families is live online IGCSE tutoring: one tutor, one student, video, a shared whiteboard with a past paper open on it, scheduled around when your child actually gets home. We target the home-tutor phrase because it is the phrase parents use, and then we tell you what the service is.

It is worth saying what this page is not. It is not a list of adjectives about dedicated tutors. It is the information a Jumeirah Park parent needs in order to hire well: the entry questions, the tier decision, what the local market charges and who published those figures, the two series a UAE candidate can actually sit, and the equivalency rule that decides how many of your child's subjects count. If a section does not answer something, it should not be here.

The trade in doing it this way is a bigger pool of tutors against the absence of someone in the room. For IGCSE that trade is favourable, because the Year 10 and Year 11 student is old enough to work on video and the thing that moves the grade is exam technique. Dubai is a large market -- 387,441 private pupils across 227 schools in 2024-25, 37 per cent of them on the UK curriculum -- but a tutor who knows Pearson's modular structure and Cambridge's zone timetabling is still a specialist, not a commodity.

At a glance

  • MoE equivalency counts five subjects, excluding Arabic and Islamic Education
IB programmes

Every IB programme stage, mapped to UAE school years

Jumeirah Park's UK-curriculum families pass through four stages, and each one needs a different kind of tutoring. The IGCSE years are the first where a public examination result follows the student permanently.

LSECAges 11-14 · Years 7-9

Cambridge Lower Secondary

The three years before IGCSE, assessed internally and optionally through Cambridge Checkpoint tests in March, May and October. This is where the gaps that later look like IGCSE weakness are actually formed: fractions and negative indices in maths, and the inability to write a structured explanation in science.

Year 9 decides tiering in several Dubai schools, which means a quiet term in Year 9 can cap a child at Core before anyone discusses it with the family. If your child is borderline, this is the cheapest year in which to intervene.

IGCSEAges 14-16 · Years 10-11

International GCSE

Two years, typically eight to ten subjects, examined externally. Cambridge grades on a 9-1 scale and offers Core and Extended tiers in many subjects; Pearson Edexcel International GCSE uses 9-1 and offers some subjects in a modular structure. Grades matter for sixth-form entry and for Ministry of Education equivalency.

Jumeirah Park students sit these papers at their own school as a centre. Cambridge allocates every centre to one of six administrative zones with a zone-specific timetable, and states it cannot accept responsibility for a candidate who used the wrong version, so the school's copy is the one that counts.

AS/AAges 16-18 · Years 12-13

AS and A Level

The route most Jumeirah Park IGCSE students take next, typically three or four subjects. The step up is in independence rather than content volume: A Level questions reward a sustained argument or a multi-step derivation where IGCSE rewarded recall and a clean method.

For UAE Ministry of Education equivalency on the British track, students must show one accredited subject at Advanced Level at grade E or better, or two at Advanced Subsidiary Level at the same grade, alongside the five IGCSE subjects.

DPAges 16-19 · Years 12-13

IB Diploma Programme

The alternative post-IGCSE route, offered by several schools within a short drive of Jumeirah Park. Six subjects, three at Higher Level, plus Theory of Knowledge, the Extended Essay and CAS. Students coming from Extended IGCSE maths are usually well placed for Analysis and Approaches.

The IGCSE-to-Diploma step is sharper than the IGCSE-to-A-Level step, because breadth increases rather than narrows. Jumeirah Park families considering it should test the HL load in the summer before Year 12 rather than discovering it in October.

Subject coverage

IB and IGCSE subjects we tutor

These are the IGCSE subjects Jumeirah Park families ask about most, with the syllabus codes where they are stable and the place marks are usually lost. Tutors are matched to the code and tier, not to the subject in general.

Mathematics (Cambridge 0580 / Pearson 4MA1)

Core and Extended

Extended carries the higher grades and includes functions, transformations, more demanding algebra and trigonometry beyond the right angle. Marks go missing on method rather than answers: unshown working on a multi-step question scores nothing when the final figure is wrong. Past papers under time, marked together, is most of the work here.

Additional Mathematics / Further Pure

Single tier

Taken alongside the main maths course by students heading for A Level Maths or Further Maths. Calculus arrives early and the pace assumes complete fluency with algebraic manipulation. Students who are comfortable in the main course can still find this one exposes gaps in indices and surds.

Physics (Cambridge 0625 / Pearson 4PH1)

Core and Extended

Forces and motion, electricity, waves, energy, magnetism and radioactivity. The practical paper rewards students who can describe a method precisely enough for someone else to repeat it. Electricity circuits and moments are the two topics that most often need rebuilding from the start rather than revising.

Chemistry (Cambridge 0620 / Pearson 4CH1)

Core and Extended

Particles, bonding, stoichiometry, acids and bases, the periodic table, organic chemistry and chemical analysis. Mole calculations are where the Extended grades are won and lost, and they are entirely trainable. Separation techniques and qualitative analysis carry easy marks that students routinely drop.

Biology (Cambridge 0610 / Pearson 4BI1)

Core and Extended

A long specification where the problem is precision of language rather than understanding. Examiner reports repeat the same point every series: answers that say 'the plant grows better' where the mark scheme wants a named variable and a direction. Tutoring is mostly answer construction against real schemes.

Combined and Coordinated Science

Core and Extended, double or single award

The route for students taking science as one or two subjects rather than three separates. Content is reduced but the paper still asks for the same quality of explanation, and students often arrive with three half-learned sciences instead of one coherent one. Worth clarifying which award your child is entered for.

English Language and English as a Second Language

Core and Extended

First Language English assesses reading comprehension, directed writing and composition; ESL is a different qualification with a different mark scheme and different expectations. Students entered for the wrong one lose marks for reasons nobody explains to them. Directed writing responds well to tutoring; composition takes longer.

Business Studies and Economics

Single tier

Both reward structured evaluation and both are marked with level-of-response schemes, which means a correct point with no development earns little. Case-study questions need a plan before any writing. Numerical sections -- break-even, ratios, elasticity -- catch out students who chose the subject to avoid maths.

Computer Science and ICT

Single tier

Computer Science covers data representation, hardware, networks, algorithms and programming, with a written paper that asks for pseudocode and trace tables. ICT is practical and assessed on applied tasks. The two are regularly confused at option time, and the wrong choice is hard to reverse in Year 11.

Arabic, Islamic Education and UAE Social Studies

As the school requires

Compulsory in all Dubai private schools regardless of the licensed curriculum, with KHDA requiring separate classes for Arabs and non-Arabs in Arabic as a first language, Islamic Education and Social Studies. These sit alongside the IGCSE load and are excluded from the five subjects Ministry of Education equivalency counts.

How sessions run

Tutoring formats built around UAE school timetables

Three patterns IGCSE families in this area actually use, all delivered live online with one tutor and one student on Gulf Standard Time.

Year 10 groundwork, one session a week

The cheapest and most effective pattern, and the one fewest families choose. One hour a week through Year 10 keeps pace with the school's scheme of work and fixes the arithmetic and algebra gaps that otherwise surface as a C grade in Year 11. It also keeps Extended tier reachable where tiering has not yet been fixed.

  • Fixed weekly slot, same tutor, same syllabus code
  • Works to the school's scheme of work, not a generic order
  • Targets tier security while the decision is still open
  • Short written note after each session

Year 11 past-paper programme

From the autumn of Year 11 the work becomes paper practice under time, marked together against the published scheme. The point is not coverage but diagnosis: which question types lose marks, and whether the cause is content, method or reading the question. Two subjects on two fixed evenings is the usual shape.

  • Papers worked under exam conditions, then marked line by line
  • Topic list rebuilt weekly from errors, not from the specification order
  • Mock results used as evidence rather than as a verdict
  • Rises to two sessions a week per subject before the series

Single-subject rescue block

A short, defined run of sessions on one subject that has gone wrong, usually maths or a science, usually after a mock. Six to ten sessions with a stated target: get the mole calculations secure, or get the full-method marks on multi-step algebra. Short, measurable, and finishes rather than rolling on indefinitely.

  • One subject, one named weakness, a defined number of sessions
  • Starts from the marked mock paper, not from the syllabus
  • Ends with a timed paper to test whether it worked
  • No open-ended commitment

What IB and IGCSE study actually looks like in Jumeirah Park

What an IGCSE home tutor in Jumeirah Park means here

  • One-to-one, live, online; there is no in-person option in the UAE
  • Tutors matched to board, syllabus code and tier
  • Sessions scheduled around the Jumeirah Park school run
  • Free trial session before any payment

An IGCSE home tutor in Jumeirah Park means one-to-one exam-board-specific teaching for a child living in this community, arranged so nobody has to drive to a centre after school. That is the need. The format is a separate question, and it is one we answer plainly rather than leaving you to find out.

IB Gram delivers this as live online IGCSE tutoring in Jumeirah Park. A tutor and a student meet on video at a set time, open the same past paper on a shared screen, and work through it. IB Gram does not offer home visits in the UAE; that service exists only in India, and no page here will suggest otherwise.

The reason this works well specifically for IGCSE is the age group. A Year 10 or Year 11 student can hold a focused hour on video, can type and write at the same time, and benefits more from a tutor who knows Pearson 4MA1's paper split than from a tutor who is physically present. The constraint on a home visit here is travel; the constraint on a grade is board-specific technique.

Where in-person genuinely wins, we will say so. A student who needs an adult to keep them in the chair, a household with no quiet room at six o'clock, or hands-on practical equipment work are all better served face to face. If that is your situation, hire locally and expect to pay the travel premium the market charges for it.

02

Cambridge or Pearson Edexcel: find out before you hire anyone

This is the question that saves the most wasted money in Dubai IGCSE tutoring, and almost no parent asks it first. Two children on the same street, both taking IGCSE Maths, can be sitting entirely different papers with different numbers of components and different styles of question. A tutor working from the wrong board's past papers will look competent and will not move the grade.

The differences are concrete rather than philosophical. Cambridge runs its IGCSE and O Level examinations in June and November series, with Checkpoint tests in March, May and October. Pearson Edexcel International GCSE runs in May/June and November, and offers some subjects in a modular structure where units can be sat separately. The paper counts, the balance between short and extended answers, and the way practical skills are assessed all differ.

Your school's exams officer will tell you the code in one email. Ask for the exact syllabus code for each subject -- 0580, 0625, 4MA1, 4PH1 and so on -- and the tier where the subject is tiered. Then make sure the tutor you hire can quote the paper structure for that code back to you without looking it up. If they cannot, they are not a specialist in it.

One further caution worth knowing: Cambridge's February/March series is offered to India only. UAE candidates sit June and November. You will see UAE-facing tutoring content referring to February and March exam windows, and it is simply wrong for your country. Act on the live official timetable your school holds, not on a date from a marketing page.

Core or Extended: the decision that sets the ceiling

Tiering is the most consequential thing in an IGCSE career and the least discussed at home. In a tiered Cambridge subject, Core covers less content and caps the grades available; Extended covers more and carries the top grades. Pearson's equivalent language is Foundation and Higher. A child capped at Core in maths has a ceiling that will affect sixth-form options two years later.

Dubai schools generally decide on the basis of Year 9 and early Year 10 performance, and the decision is often communicated as settled when it is in fact still movable. If your child is near the boundary, the useful intervention is a term of weekly work in Year 10 aimed specifically at the content that separates the tiers, followed by a conversation with the head of department.

The converse case matters too. A student placed on Extended who is genuinely struggling may be better served by a secure Core grade than a poor Extended one, depending on what they need the subject for. That is a judgement about the child, not about ambition, and it should be made with the school's marked evidence in front of everyone rather than on a feeling.

For tutoring, the practical point is that Core and Extended are different courses and need different preparation. A tutor teaching Extended content to a Core candidate wastes the hour and knocks the student's confidence. Confirm the tier before the first session, and confirm it again if the school reviews entries in Year 11.

The Jumeirah Park evening: fitting revision around the bus

Year 11 revision fails on logistics far more often than on motivation. Dubai schools finish between roughly 14:30 and 15:30; a Jumeirah Park address on a bus route that also serves Al Barsha and Jumeirah Village gets children home between 15:20 and 16:40 depending on the district and the route. Jumeirah Park has no metro station inside it, so none of this is avoidable by changing transport.

That leaves a usable evening of roughly four hours in which homework, a tutoring session, dinner and sleep all have to happen. Families who try to run two tutoring subjects plus homework on the same evening discover by week four that it does not work. One session per evening, two evenings a week, is the pattern that holds through to the June series.

The second scheduling reality is the week shape. With Friday as a short day for many schools and the weekend on Saturday and Sunday, a Saturday morning session is often the best slot in the week for a long past paper: the student is rested, there is no school the next morning, and ninety minutes is realistic rather than optimistic.

During Ramadan this changes again. School hours shorten, households run later, and a post-Iftar session or a late-morning weekend slot usually works better than anything at five in the afternoon. We reschedule rather than cancel, because the series does not move.

There is one more constraint specific to villa communities like this one. Siblings share walls and study spaces, and a Year 11 working at the kitchen table with a nine-year-old nearby is not working. Before the first session, decide which room the lessons happen in and make it the same room every week. A pair of headphones and a closed door do more for session quality than any change of tutor.

What IGCSE tuition costs around Jumeirah Park, cheapest first

Start at the bottom of the market rather than the top, because that is where most families start and where most of the disappointment happens. Tutopiya advertises from AED 33-52 an hour and EdFlik from AED 45-65. At that rate you are usually buying homework supervision from a university student. For a Year 9 who needs company while they work, that can be perfectly adequate and good value.

The next band up is where IGCSE grades actually move. Unitors publishes IGCSE tuition from AED 150 an hour and IB from AED 200, which is roughly where a qualified subject teacher who marks to the scheme sits. Above that, TutorChase quotes around AED 270 for specialist work and Bestimate's Dubai survey puts specialist IB and IGCSE tuition at AED 200-450 or more, with BartyED's premium examiner-led tier at AED 650.

In-home visits carry a travel premium: Bestimate puts in-home one-to-one at AED 180-350 and independent home tutors at AED 200-500. Monthly packages seen across the market run from around AED 799 for eight online sessions to AED 1,599-1,799 for four two-hour home visits. Every figure here is the provider's or survey's own, read in October 2026, and none of them is an IB Gram price.

Where the money gets wasted is predictable. Paying the in-home premium for a tutor who does not know your board. Buying a twenty-session package in September and using eleven. Starting a maths rescue in April when the paper is in June. One hour a week from the start of Year 10 costs less across two years than a panic block in Year 11 and works considerably better.

Ministry of Education equivalency and the five-subject rule

If your child may study in the UAE, or needs a UAE-recognised secondary certificate, equivalency is the process that matters and almost no tutoring page mentions it. For the British track, the Ministry of Education requires five accredited subjects in GCSE or IGCSE certificates at a grade of no less than E or grade 3, plus one accredited subject at Advanced Level at grade E or better, or two at Advanced Subsidiary Level at the same grade.

The detail that catches families out is the exclusion. Arabic and Islamic education are not included among the five required subjects. So a student taking ten IGCSEs including Arabic and Islamic Education has eight that count, not ten, and if several of those are weak the five-subject threshold is less comfortable than it looks. A ranking competitor in this market publishes a six-subject requirement; the sourced figure is five.

This shapes option choices in Year 9 more than it shapes tutoring in Year 11. A student who needs the equivalency route should be entered for five subjects they can realistically pass at the threshold, excluding the mandatory UAE subjects from that count. That is a conversation with the school's university guidance office, held early.

IB Gram does not perform, submit or guarantee equivalency, and nobody needs tutoring in order to obtain it. We describe the requirement because parents ask and because the published requirement is checkable. Verify the current rules with the Ministry of Education or the relevant attestation authority before acting, since requirements are revised.

07

The June and November series, counted backwards

Nobody fails an IGCSE on exam day; they fail it in the eight weeks nobody planned. Counting backwards from the series makes that visible. For a UAE candidate the two Cambridge options are June and November, and for Pearson Edexcel International GCSE they are May/June and November. Entry decisions sit months before the papers and are made by the school.

The November series is the resit route, and it is worth understanding before results day rather than after. The Pearson precedent is instructive: the November 2026 International GCSE timetable ran from late October to 19 November 2026 and results reached students in January, with November 2025 results arriving on 22 January 2026. A November resit therefore means a sixth-form application season spent with a provisional grade.

The mock window in January or February is the most useful data point in the year, and most families waste it by reading only the grade. The marked paper tells you which question types failed and why. That is what a tutor should work from in the spring, rather than starting again at chapter one.

Coursework and practical deadlines are the other thing to count backwards from, because they are set internally and arrive without warning. Where a subject carries a practical assessment or a controlled component, the school fixes the date and it typically sits well before the written papers. Ask for the department's internal calendar in September of Year 11 rather than discovering it in February.

Dates are revised, and Cambridge timetables are zone-specific. Use the live official timetable from your school's exams officer rather than any date written on a tutoring page, this one included.

KHDA, the mandatory subjects and what we do not claim

  • KHDA regulates Dubai; ADEK covers Abu Dhabi and SPEA covers Sharjah
  • Arabic, Islamic Education and Social or Moral Studies are compulsory
  • The MoHRE private tuition permit is free and valid for two years
  • We claim no approval from KHDA, MoE, MoHRE, Cambridge or Pearson
  • Dubai confirmed no private school fee increase for 2026-27 on 22 May 2026

Dubai's private schools are regulated by the Knowledge and Human Development Authority, described on u.ae as responsible for enhancing and overseeing the quality of private education in the emirate. Every school listed on this page sits inside that system. IB Gram is not approved, accredited or licensed by KHDA, and does not hold a KHDA Educational Services Permit, which is a specific authorisation issued to training institutes with premises.

The mandatory-subject requirement is the part that affects an IGCSE timetable directly. Arabic, Islamic Education and Social or Moral Studies are compulsory in all Dubai private schools whatever the licensed curriculum, and KHDA required its current guidance to be implemented from the start of the 2025-26 academic year. Instructional time is calculated on a forty-minute lesson unit, with the advice that no mandatory lesson runs shorter than twenty-five minutes.

KHDA also requires separate classes for Arabs and non-Arabs in Arabic as a first language, Islamic Education and Social Studies, stating that combined classes are strictly prohibited because curriculum expectations and the language of instruction differ. For the mandatory subjects, using different or additional content without prior Ministry of Education permission is prohibited, which is why we describe those courses rather than offering our own version of them.

On the tutoring side there is a separate regulatory point. Individuals providing private lessons in the UAE need a Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation private tuition work permit under Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023. The permit is free of charge and valid for two years. Tutoring without one carries fines and penalties under the applicable laws, and no fine schedule is published.

Where we tutor

Where IGCSE families around Jumeirah Park actually live

This corner of Dubai is dense in UK-curriculum schools, so the IGCSE catchment is tight and the tutoring enquiries cluster by school rather than by community. These are the areas families contacting us from Jumeirah Park come from.

Jumeirah Park

Dubai British School Jumeirah Park sits inside the community and runs IGCSE then A Level, so a large share of local Year 10 and 11 students are at one centre with one set of entry codes.

Jumeirah Islands

No school inside the gates, so every IGCSE student here is driven or bussed out, most often to Jumeirah Village or Al Barsha. Later arrivals home mean later session slots.

Jumeirah Village Triangle

Sunmarke School and Arcadia Global School both sit here, which makes JVT the densest IGCSE cluster in the immediate area and a frequent source of Year 11 enquiries in the autumn.

Al Furjan

Safa Community School and Arbor School serve this community, both UK curriculum. The Route 2020 metro station is useful for the school run and irrelevant to tutoring, which happens at home.

The Gardens and Discovery Gardens

The Winchester School and Delhi Private School Dubai are within reach, and the IGCSE enquiries from here skew towards maths and the sciences in Year 11 rather than full programmes.

Jumeirah Golf Estates

Low-density villas with no school inside, so students travel to Al Barsha, Sports City or Dubailand. The longest return journeys in this catchment, and the strongest case for an evening slot.

Dubai Sports City and Motor City

Victory Heights Primary and GEMS Metropole are here, feeding IGCSE cohorts that overlap with Jumeirah Park through sports clubs and friendship groups more than through bus routes.

Jumeirah Village Circle

Apartment and townhouse stock with JSS International School nearby and a very mixed curriculum map. A quiet room, not travel time, is the limiting factor on tutoring here.

School ecosystem

IB and Cambridge school communities we support in Jumeirah Park

IGCSE centres closest to Jumeirah Park

Schools within roughly fifteen minutes of the community that enter candidates for Cambridge or Pearson International GCSE. The board and tier vary between them and sometimes between departments inside one school, which is why the first question is always about the entry code.

How matching works

From first enquiry to a tutor who fits

  1. 01

Send us the subject, the code and the tier

Email or ask your school's exams officer for the syllabus code and tier for each subject, then tell us. Cambridge 0580 Extended and Pearson 4MA1 Higher need different past papers and a different tutor brief. Getting this right before the first session is the single cheapest thing you can do.

  2. 02

Tell us when your child is genuinely home

Not when school ends, but when the bus reaches your district and the bag is down. For most Jumeirah Park families that is 16:00 to 16:40, which makes 17:00 the dependable weekday start. We fix the slot around that rather than around a timetable.

  3. 03

    Take the free trial session

A full lesson with the matched tutor on your child's current material, with no payment and no card details. You get a written read afterwards: where the student actually is against the tier they are entered for, and what the first six weeks should target.

  4. 04

Run weekly to the school's scheme of work

Sessions follow what the school is teaching and when it assesses, not a generic specification order. You receive a short note after each one. In the autumn of Year 11 the balance shifts from content to timed past papers, and frequency rises before the series.

  5. 05

Use the mock as the review point

The mock paper is the best evidence anyone will get before the real series. We mark it with the student, rebuild the topic list from the actual errors, and decide whether to continue, change subject focus or stop. Stopping deliberately is a legitimate outcome.

Why families choose us

What UAE parents tell us matters most

Matched to the syllabus code, not the subject

A tutor is briefed on Cambridge 0625 or Pearson 4PH1 specifically, with the right past papers and the right mark schemes. Board-blind tutoring is the commonest way IGCSE money gets wasted in this market, and it is entirely avoidable with one email to the exams officer.

Tier treated as a decision, not a label

We will tell you if your child looks capped below where they need to be, and what a term of Year 10 work would have to achieve to change it. We will also tell you when a secure Core grade is the better outcome than a weak Extended one.

Scheduled around the school run

The session slot is built from when your child reaches Jumeirah Park, not from when the school bell rings. This page publishes the arrival pattern because a session booked at the wrong hour fails for reasons unrelated to teaching, and that is how most arrangements quietly end.

Rates quoted with their source

Every AED figure here is attributed to the provider or survey that published it, with the month we read it. Three of the strongest competitor pages in this market publish no price at all, and two quote US dollars at families who transact in dirhams.

No claimed approvals, no invented statistics

IB Gram holds no KHDA, ADEK, SPEA, Ministry of Education, Cambridge or Pearson approval and claims none. There is no self-asserted star rating on this page and no statistic without its source, because an unsourced number is a liability rather than a selling point.

Coursework help with a stated limit

Where an IGCSE subject carries coursework, a tutor teaches the criteria and gives feedback on the student's own work. A tutor does not write it. We publish that limit so you can compare it against what else you are being offered in this market.

Questions parents ask

IB and IGCSE tutoring in Jumeirah Park: your questions answered

Which exam board is my Jumeirah Park school entering my child with?+

Ask the school's exams officer, by email, for the syllabus code and tier for each subject. You will get back something like 0580 Extended or 4MA1 Higher. That is the single most useful piece of information in IGCSE tutoring, because Cambridge and Pearson past papers are not interchangeable and a tutor working from the wrong set will look competent while making no difference. Departments within one school sometimes use different boards for different subjects, so ask per subject rather than assuming the school has one answer.

Do your tutors visit villas in Jumeirah Park for IGCSE lessons?+

No. IB Gram does not offer home visits in the UAE at all; our in-person service runs in India only. IGCSE tuition for Jumeirah Park families is delivered live online, one tutor to one student, on Gulf Standard Time, with past papers shared on screen. We target the home-tutor search phrase because that is what parents type, and then tell you what the service actually is. If presence in the room is essential for your child, the Dubai market charges roughly AED 180-500 an hour for in-home visits including travel.

Can a tutor get my child moved from Core to Extended?+

A tutor cannot move them; the school decides tiering. What tutoring can do is produce the evidence. If your child is near the boundary, a term of weekly work in Year 10 aimed at the content that separates the tiers, followed by strong marks on the school's own assessments, is what changes a head of department's mind. Start that conversation at the end of Year 10 with marked work in hand rather than an opinion. If the cap is genuinely right for the child, a secure Core grade beats a poor Extended one.

What is the cheapest sensible way to support a Year 10 in this area?+

One hour a week with a qualified subject tutor, starting in Year 10 rather than Year 11. Market rates for that band run from about AED 150 an hour on published figures, which is more per hour than a student tutor at AED 33-65 but far less in total than an emergency programme in the spring of Year 11. Pick the one subject that most affects sixth-form options, usually maths, and do it properly rather than spreading an hour across three subjects.

When do IGCSE students in the UAE actually sit their papers?+

Cambridge IGCSE and O Level candidates in the UAE sit the June and November series. The February/March series is offered to India only and is not available here, despite appearing in UAE-facing tutoring content. Pearson Edexcel International GCSE runs in May/June and November. Dates are revised each year and Cambridge timetables are zone-specific, with every centre allocated to one of six administrative zones, so the version your school's exams officer holds is the one to plan around rather than any date on a tutoring page.

Does the Ministry of Education count all ten of my child's IGCSE subjects?+

On the British track, the Ministry of Education requires five accredited subjects in GCSE or IGCSE certificates at no less than grade E or grade 3, plus one Advanced Level subject at grade E or better, or two Advanced Subsidiary Level subjects at the same grade. Arabic and Islamic education are not counted among the five. One ranking competitor in this market publishes a six-subject requirement, which is not what the sourced rule says. Verify current requirements with the Ministry of Education before acting, and note that no tutoring is required to obtain equivalency.

Is a Saturday morning session better than a weekday one?+

For a full past paper, yes. A ninety-minute slot on Saturday morning gives a rested student the only genuinely uninterrupted block in the week, with no school the next morning and no bus to recover from. Weekday evenings are better for shorter, targeted work on one topic. The pattern that holds through Year 11 for most Jumeirah Park families is two weekday sessions of an hour plus a Saturday paper, with the Sunday session spent marking that paper together.

My child's mock grades dropped. Is it too late to fix it?+

If the mock was in January or February and the series is in June, no, and the mock is the most useful thing you have. The marked paper shows which question types lost marks and whether the cause was content, method or misreading. Those three need different responses. What does not work is starting again at the beginning of the specification; what does work is a six-week programme attacking the specific failures, with a timed paper at the end to test whether it worked.

Do tutors in Dubai need a licence, and how do I check?+

Individuals providing private lessons in the UAE need a private tuition work permit from the Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation, introduced under Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023. It is granted free of charge for two years, and eligible applicants include registered school teachers, government and private-sector employees, unemployed residents, university students and school students aged fifteen to eighteen. u.ae states that tutoring without a permit attracts fines and penalties under the applicable laws. Ask any tutor you hire directly whether they hold one; no fine amounts are published, so distrust quoted figures.

Can one tutor take both maths and physics at IGCSE?+

Often yes, and at IGCSE level it works better than it does at A Level or Higher Level. The two subjects share algebraic method, graph work and rearrangement, and a tutor covering both sees whether a physics problem is actually a maths problem. It also halves the number of evening slots you have to protect, which matters in a household where the bus arrives at 16:30. Check that the tutor is comfortable with the practical paper as well as the theory before combining them.

What should we do about Arabic and Islamic Education alongside IGCSE?+

Treat them as a separate workload rather than part of the IGCSE programme. They are compulsory in all Dubai private schools regardless of the licensed curriculum, and KHDA requires separate classes for Arabs and non-Arabs in Arabic as a first language, Islamic Education and Social Studies. They are also excluded from the five subjects Ministry of Education equivalency counts. Because KHDA prohibits different or additional content without prior Ministry permission, support here means helping with the school's own material, not substituting a different course.

Which IGCSE subjects most often need outside help in Year 11?+

Extended maths, chemistry and physics, in that order, and English as a Second Language where a student has been entered for the wrong English qualification. The common factor is multi-step method: a question that needs four correct decisions in sequence, where the student knows the content but loses the marks in the middle. That is a trainable failure and it responds quickly to marked past papers. Biology tends to need language precision rather than content, which takes longer but is just as fixable.

Does a November entry hurt a sixth-form application?+

It complicates the timing rather than the outcome. The Pearson precedent shows why: the November 2026 International GCSE timetable ran from late October to 19 November 2026 with results reaching students in January, and November 2025 results arrived on 22 January 2026. So a November resit means applying to sixth form with a provisional grade in that subject. Schools are used to it, but tell them early. Where the June result is genuinely borderline, that conversation is better had in August than in January.

How long before we can tell whether the tutoring is working?+

Six sessions, judged on marked timed work rather than on how the sessions felt. We expect to see specific question types that previously lost marks now scoring, and the student able to explain the method without prompting. If that has not happened by session six, the problem is either the match, the frequency or a diagnosis we got wrong, and we would rather change one of those than ask you to persist. No honest provider can promise a grade or a number of marks.

Can sessions continue over the summer or if we travel?+

Yes. Many Jumeirah Park families pause through July and August, and others use a short intensive block before Year 11 starts, which is the single best-value timing available if your child is moving into the examination year. If you travel, sessions follow the time zone you are in provided we know the week before. Because nobody has to drive anywhere, a reschedule is a slot swap rather than a renegotiation, and that flexibility is one of the practical advantages of online delivery.

Get the code and the tier, then get the tutor

If you are looking for an IGCSE home tutor in Jumeirah Park, spend ten minutes before you spend any money. Email the exams officer for the syllabus code and tier in each subject. Work out when the bus actually reaches your district. Then find a tutor who can describe that specific paper's structure without looking it up, and test them in a free trial session on your child's current material.
