IGCSE Maths Tutor in Jumeirah Golf Estates

An IGCSE maths tutor in Jumeirah Golf Estates is a small purchase badly specified or a large one well specified, and the difference is diagnosis. This page costs the work by tier and by board, says which papers decide the grade, and names the five errors that account for most lost marks. IB Gram teaches Jumeirah Golf Estates students one-to-one over live video and sends no tutors to UAE addresses.

IB & IGCSE in Jumeirah Golf Estates

IGCSE maths is the cheapest subject to fix and the easiest to overbuy

Mathematics is the subject Jumeirah Golf Estates families ask about most, and it is also the one where the gap between what tuition should cost and what it does cost is widest. The reason is that most lost marks in IGCSE mathematics are not knowledge gaps. They are four or five repeated technical habits that appear on every paper a student sits, and once named they go. Six to ten sessions is a realistic block for a grade move. Thirty weeks of general weekly support is what gets sold.

Here is the arithmetic that should frame the decision. A qualified subject tutor working online in Dubai is advertised at roughly AED 150 to AED 300 an hour, so nine targeted sessions at a mid-band rate is in the region of AED 1,800. A general weekly arrangement running thirty weeks at the same rate is around AED 6,000. The second one is not three times better. It is frequently no better at all, because nobody ever read a marked paper and named the habit.

Two decisions sit above all of that and both are made before a tutor is hired. The first is the board: Cambridge IGCSE 0580 and Pearson Edexcel International GCSE Mathematics A 4MA1 are different qualifications with different paper structures, and a tutor working from the wrong scheme of work wastes a block. The second is the tier, which sets a hard ceiling. A Core or Foundation entry caps the available grade at 5. No amount of tuition lifts that, and buying hours against it is the most complete waste available in this market.

So the shape of this page is diagnostic rather than promotional. It sets out what each paper carries, maps the topics that decide the grade onto the papers they appear in, names the five habitual errors in order of cost, prices the work by tier with attribution, and explains what the November series is worth as a route. Then it says plainly which situations tuition cannot help.

One more thing worth knowing before you compare quotes. The November series is a genuine budget option that almost nobody mentions at the point of sale. Both boards run one, so a resit sits roughly five months after June rather than a year, and a focused block aimed at a single paper after results is a smaller spend than a general year before them. If the realistic view in February is that the grade will land a band short, that changes which plan is worth paying for.

IB Gram teaches Jumeirah Golf Estates students one-to-one over live video at a fixed weekly time in Gulf Standard Time. We do not send tutors to homes anywhere in the UAE; in-person home tutoring is a service we run only in India. Our own fee is quoted after a free trial lesson, because the honest number depends on a session count that only a marked paper can establish.

At a glance

  • Most IGCSE maths losses are four or five repeated habits, not missing knowledge
  • A targeted block of nine sessions is around a third the cost of a general year
  • Cambridge 0580 and Pearson 4MA1 need different tutors and different papers
  • A Core or Foundation entry caps the grade at 5, whatever is spent
  • Lessons are live one-to-one video; no tutor visits a UAE address

Three things to establish before any maths tuition is bought around Jumeirah Golf Estates: the board, the tier, and whether Additional Mathematics is on the table. Each one changes the size of the job.

0580Ages 14-16 · Years 10-11

Cambridge IGCSE Mathematics

The most common route in Dubai. The current syllabus assesses through two papers of equal weight, one without a calculator and one with, at both Core and Extended tiers. That non-calculator paper is the structural feature that distinguishes it, and it is the one most students are underprepared for, because every piece of homework they do has a device on the desk. Confirm the current paper structure for your child's cohort against the school's copy of the syllabus.

Cambridge International runs IGCSE, O Level and International A Level examinations in a June series and a November series; the February and March series is offered to India only, so it has no place in a UAE family's planning. Cambridge allocates every centre to one of six administrative zones and states it cannot accept responsibility for candidates who miss an exam after using the wrong zone's timetable. Confirm the zone with your school's exams officer.

4MA1Ages 14-16 · Years 10-11

Pearson Edexcel International GCSE Mathematics A

Used by a significant minority of Dubai schools and by most private candidates. It assesses through two papers of equal weight with a calculator permitted on both, which changes revision priorities considerably: arithmetic fluency matters less and question-reading matters more. Tiers are Foundation, covering grades 5 to 1, and Higher, covering 9 to 4. Tutor supply for 4MA1 is thinner in this market than for 0580, which affects waiting times rather than rates.

Pearson Edexcel International GCSE examinations are available in May/June and in November. As a check on the lead times, the November 2026 final timetable ran from late October to 19 November 2026, June 2026 results reached centres on 19 August 2026 and students on 20 August 2026, and November 2025 results reached students on 22 January 2026. Pearson publishes provisional timetables ahead of each series, so work from the live official document.

0606Age 15-16 · Year 11

Cambridge Additional Mathematics

Taken alongside 0580 by students heading to A Level or IB Diploma Higher Level mathematics. It introduces calculus, logarithms, vectors and more formal function notation a year early, which is why it is the single best preparation for either post-16 route. It is also harder, so a student who is not secure at Extended level should not be added to it as an enrichment exercise.

If Analysis and Approaches Higher Level or A Level Mathematics is the plan, taking 0606 in Year 11 is cheaper and more effective than any pre-Diploma tuition block bought in the following summer. Not every school around Jumeirah Golf Estates offers it, which is worth asking about before Year 11 option forms are signed rather than afterwards.

Subject coverage

IB and IGCSE subjects we tutor

Mathematics divides into topic clusters that behave very differently under examination pressure. These are the clusters tuition is actually bought for, with a note on where each one sits and what it costs in sessions.

Number and arithmetic fluency

0580 Core and Extended · 4MA1 both tiers

Fractions, percentages, ratio, standard form, bounds and reverse percentages. On Cambridge this cluster decides the non-calculator paper, and it is where a student who has always had a device loses marks fastest. Two or three sessions of deliberate non-calculator work has an unusually high return.

Algebraic manipulation

0580 Extended · 4MA1 Higher

Expanding, factorising, rearranging, algebraic fractions and simultaneous equations. The load-bearing cluster: weakness here shows up in trigonometry, in graphs and in problem-solving questions that are not about algebra at all. Usually four to six sessions and the highest-value block in the subject.

Graphs and functions

0580 Extended · 4MA1 Higher

Sketching, transformations, gradients, intersections and inverse functions. Students lose marks by producing a correct sketch and then not reading the required information off it, which is a question-reading problem rather than a graphing one.

Trigonometry

0580 Core and Extended · 4MA1 both tiers

Right-angled trigonometry, the sine and cosine rules, bearings and three-dimensional problems. The common failure is diagram labelling: an unlabelled sketch leads to the wrong rule, and the method marks go with it. Three sessions usually settles it.

Geometry and mensuration

0580 Core and Extended · 4MA1 both tiers

Angle reasoning, circle theorems, similarity, surface area and volume. Circle theorems are a recall-plus-reasoning cluster where students name the theorem without stating the reason, and reasons carry marks. Efficient to tutor because the rules are finite.

Probability and statistics

0580 Core and Extended · 4MA1 both tiers

Tree diagrams, Venn diagrams, cumulative frequency, histograms with unequal class widths and averages from grouped data. Histograms with unequal widths are a reliable source of lost marks and take a single session to fix permanently.

Vectors and transformations

0580 Extended · 4MA1 Higher

Column vectors, vector geometry proofs and the four transformations with full descriptions. Transformation questions want a complete description — type, centre, factor, direction — and partial descriptions earn partial marks at best.

Problem-solving and multi-step questions

Both boards, higher tiers

The questions at the back of the paper that combine two or three clusters. These are where grade 7 becomes grade 8 or 9, and they need practice rather than teaching: the skill is deciding what to do first, which only comes from attempting many of them.

Calculus and logarithms

0606 Additional Mathematics

Differentiation, integration, stationary points and logarithmic manipulation, a year ahead of A Level or the Diploma. Expect a higher session count here than for 0580, because it is genuinely new content rather than a technique correction.

Non-calculator technique

0580 Paper 1 and 2

Not a topic but a skill, and the one most specific to Cambridge. Long multiplication, fraction arithmetic, surds, estimation and sensible mental checking. It decays quietly across Years 9 and 10 and needs rebuilding deliberately before the June series.

How sessions run

Tutoring formats built around UAE school timetables

Three formats make financial sense for IGCSE mathematics, and the marked paper should pick between them rather than habit doing it.

Technique block, six to nine sessions

The right purchase for most students, and the one this page argues for. Target the named habits a marked paper reveals — method lines, rounding, diagram labelling, question reading — with past-paper questions in between. It ends when the habits have gone, which is usually measurable at the next school assessment.

  • Priced as a block, so the total is known before the first session
  • Targets named errors rather than sweeping the syllabus
  • Past-paper questions set and marked between lessons
  • Finishes rather than rolling into a standing commitment

Content block for one weak cluster

Where a marked paper shows genuine gaps rather than habits — algebraic fractions, circle theorems, histograms with unequal class widths — a four to six session block on that cluster alone is efficient. Finite rule sets like circle theorems are particularly cost-effective, because there is a definable end.

  • One named topic cluster at a time, not the whole subject
  • Works from the syllabus content list for the correct code
  • Ends when the cluster is secure under timed conditions
  • Can be followed by a technique block if needed

June-series run-in

Two shorter sessions a week in the final eight weeks, built entirely around papers. The student sits a paper under timed conditions, the tutor marks it against the scheme, and the next session attacks only what was lost. For Cambridge candidates this is also the window for rebuilding non-calculator fluency.

  • Whole papers under timed conditions, marked line by line
  • Non-calculator drilling for Cambridge candidates
  • Timing can shift to post-Iftar during Ramadan
  • Agreed stop date at study leave

What IB and IGCSE study actually looks like in Jumeirah Golf Estates

01

The five errors that cost the most marks

  • Missing method lines on multi-mark questions, the largest single loss
  • Rounding intermediate values and carrying them forward
  • Unlabelled diagrams leading to the wrong trigonometric rule
  • Answering a question adjacent to the one that was asked
  • Non-calculator fluency decaying unnoticed across Years 9 and 10

Parents describe a subject. Examiners see a small set of habits repeating across every paper, and in IGCSE mathematics there are five that account for most of the loss. Ranked by cost, the first is missing method. On a four, five or six-mark question most of the marks are for the steps, so a student who writes a single final answer loses nearly all of them when that answer is wrong. This is free to fix and it is worth several marks a page in a typical Jumeirah Golf Estates mock.

The second is rounding. An intermediate value rounded to three significant figures and carried into the next step produces a final answer that is close but not right, and the accuracy mark goes. The rule is to work to full precision and round once at the end; students break it constantly because it feels tidier not to.

The third is unlabelled diagrams. In trigonometry and geometry the choice of rule depends on which sides and angles are known, and a student who does not mark the diagram picks the wrong rule and then executes it perfectly. The fourth is question reading: the question asks for the perimeter and the student produces the area, or asks for a description of a transformation and the student names the type without the centre or the factor. Partial descriptions earn partial marks.

The fifth is specific to Cambridge: non-calculator decay. Every piece of homework a Year 10 student does has a device on the desk, so fraction arithmetic, long multiplication and surd manipulation quietly rot across two years and then appear on a paper where no device is allowed. All five of these are visible in a single marked paper, which is why we ask for one before quoting anything at all.

02

Which paper does what, and what that changes

Revision is usually spread evenly across a syllabus, and the paper structure says it should not be. The current Cambridge 0580 model assesses through two papers of equal weight, one taken without a calculator and one with, at both Core and Extended tiers. Pearson 4MA1 assesses through two papers of equal weight with a calculator permitted on both. Confirm the exact structure for your child's cohort with the school, because assessment models are periodically revised.

That single difference changes the whole revision plan. A Cambridge candidate needs a deliberate programme of non-calculator work, because half the available marks sit on a paper where arithmetic fluency is load-bearing. A Pearson candidate does not, and time spent drilling long division for them is time taken from problem-solving practice where their marks actually are.

The second thing the structure tells you is where the difficult questions sit. On both boards the multi-step problem-solving questions cluster towards the end of each paper, and they are what separates grade 7 from grade 8 or 9. Those questions cannot be taught in the usual sense; they need volume, because the skill is deciding what to do first.

The practical consequence for a Jumeirah Golf Estates family is that the question to ask a prospective tutor is not whether they teach IGCSE maths. It is which code your child sits, how many papers it has, whether one of them is non-calculator, and what they would drill differently as a result. A specialist answers that in a sentence.

The tier ceiling, and the money wasted against it

No conversation in IGCSE mathematics matters more than this one, and it is routinely had too late. A Cambridge Core entry caps the maximum available grade at 5. A Pearson Foundation entry does the same. If the post-16 plan requires a grade 6 or 7 — and A Level Mathematics and IB Diploma Higher Level routinely do — a student on the lower tier cannot reach it however many sessions are bought.

Schools place students on the lower tier for defensible reasons. A borderline candidate entered for Extended can score below the lowest Extended grade and come away with nothing, where Core would have produced a safe 4 or 5. That is a genuine risk, not administrative timidity. But the placement is made in Year 10 on Year 10 evidence, and a student whose work changes materially in the first term of Year 11 can sometimes be moved. Nobody moves them unless a parent asks.

This is where a short diagnostic block has real value. Six sessions on Extended-tier material produces a straightforward answer: either the student handles the additional algebra and problem-solving or the gap is wider than one term can close. We have told Jumeirah Golf Estates families both, and the second answer saves more money than the first.

If the tier cannot be changed and the post-16 plan requires a higher grade, the honest options are to revise the post-16 plan or to enter the November series on the higher tier, potentially as a private candidate through an approved Dubai centre. Both are legitimate. Buying thirty sessions against a ceiling is not.

What IGCSE maths tuition costs around here, by tier

The hourly figure is the easy part. Published rates in Dubai for a qualified subject tutor working online run roughly AED 150 to AED 300 an hour; budget online tuition, typically a university student, is advertised from AED 45 to AED 150, with one platform listing from AED 33 to AED 52 and another from AED 45 to AED 65. In-home one-to-one visits including travel run from AED 180 to AED 500, with one provider publishing AED 1,599 to AED 1,799 a month for four two-hour in-home sessions against AED 799 for eight online sessions.

Specialist IGCSE, IB and A-Level provision is quoted at AED 200 to AED 450 and above, one UK-based agency at AED 270, and premium named or examiner-led tuition as high as AED 650 an hour. Independent monthly estimates for one weekly hour run AED 240 to AED 600 at the budget end, AED 600 to AED 1,200 in the middle, and AED 1,000 to AED 2,000 or more for specialist examination-year work. All of these were read from the providers' own published pages in October 2026, and they describe the market rather than IB Gram, whose fee is quoted after the free trial.

For mathematics specifically, the useful observation is that the block sizes are small. A technique block is six to nine sessions. A single weak content cluster is four to six. A June-series run-in is eight to ten. Core-tier consolidation is often five. None of those is a thirty-week commitment, and the table below puts approximate totals against each so you can compare a quote to something.

The one case where a longer arrangement is justified is Additional Mathematics 0606, which is genuinely new content taught at pace in a single year. Twelve to fifteen sessions there is reasonable. Everywhere else in this syllabus, a quote for a year of weekly sessions should prompt the question of what specific errors it is aimed at.

Mapping topics onto the papers they appear in

One reason general revision underperforms is that it treats every topic as equally likely to appear and equally expensive to get wrong. That is not how a mathematics paper works. Some clusters are almost guaranteed, some are high-mark when they appear, and some are cheap to secure because the rule set is finite.

The clusters that reliably carry marks across both boards are algebraic manipulation, ratio and percentages, trigonometry, and averages from grouped data. The clusters that are cheap to secure are circle theorems, transformation descriptions, and histograms with unequal class widths, because each has a short, learnable set of rules and a predictable question shape. The clusters that are expensive and unavoidable are multi-step problem-solving questions, which carry the top marks and only improve with volume.

For a student targeting a grade 6 or 7, the efficient order is: fix the habits, secure the finite-rule clusters, then build algebraic fluency, then do problem-solving volume. For a student targeting an 8 or 9, the habits are usually already gone and almost all of the remaining work is problem-solving volume with careful marking.

The table below is the version worth working from, and it is also a good test of a prospective tutor. Ask which three clusters they would start with for your child and why. A specialist answers from the marked paper. A generalist starts at the beginning of the syllabus, which is the most expensive place to start.

One caveat on using the table. Frequency is not the same as importance for your child specifically. If a marked paper shows every circle-theorem mark already secured, that row is irrelevant however reliably the topic appears, and the sessions belong somewhere else entirely.

The November series as a budget option

  • Both boards run a November series, so a resit is five months away, not a year
  • A targeted post-results block costs a fraction of a general pre-exam year
  • The November entry deadline falls before results have settled; find it early
  • A resit is the practical route past a Core or Foundation tier ceiling

Almost nobody prices the resit route in, and for a family deciding how much to spend before June it changes the calculation. Cambridge runs a November series alongside June, and Pearson Edexcel International GCSE is available in November as well as May/June. A resit therefore sits roughly five months after the summer rather than a year, and private candidate entry through an approved Dubai centre is possible.

The arithmetic is worth doing. Thirty weeks of general weekly support before June, at a mid-band rate, is in the region of AED 6,000. A focused block of eight to ten sessions after results, aimed at one paper and one tier, is roughly AED 1,600 to AED 2,000 plus the centre's entry fee. If the realistic assessment in February is that the grade will land a band short, the second plan is both cheaper and more targeted.

Two practical cautions. The entry deadline for a November series falls well before the examination and often before a family has finished absorbing August results, so find the date in advance rather than after results day. And examination entry fees for a private candidate are paid to the centre, not to a tutor, which is a cost that belongs in the comparison.

The resit window is also the only realistic route past a tier ceiling. A student entered for Core in June can be entered for Extended in November, which converts an unmovable grade 5 into a genuine possibility. That is a conversation to have with the school in March, not in September.

07

When maths tuition is the wrong purchase

  • A tier ceiling is a school conversation, not a tuition purchase
  • A student already improving does not need a tutor to keep improving
  • Weak multi-step question reading is not fixed by more algebra teaching
  • Three weekly slots can leave no room for the unaided practice that works

A page about cost should name the situations where the answer is to spend nothing. The first is the tier ceiling already described: a Core-tier student needing a grade 7 does not have a tuition problem, and the conversation with the school costs nothing.

The second is the student already on an upward line. A child who had a bad term and has since turned a corner will keep improving without a tutor, and nobody in this market will volunteer that. A short diagnostic block tells you which situation you are in for a fraction of the price of a year.

The third is the reading problem wearing a maths costume. A surprising proportion of students described as weak at mathematics are losing marks on comprehension of multi-step wordy questions, which is a reading and planning issue. It is still fixable, but by a different kind of work, and buying more algebra teaching will not touch it.

The fourth is the overloaded week. A student with three weekly tuition slots on top of a full Dubai timetable and clubs in Dubai Sports City has no time left for unaided practice, and the unaided attempt is where the learning happens. In that household, removing a tuition slot sometimes raises the grade. We would rather say that than bill for the third subject.

The fifth is a timing mismatch. A student eight weeks from the June series who is two full topics behind cannot be caught up and polished at once, and a provider promising both is selling optimism. In that situation the useful plan is to secure the marks that are reachable, accept the ceiling for this series, and treat the November entry as the second attempt rather than spending heavily on a schedule that was never going to fit.

08

Fitting maths into a Jumeirah Golf Estates evening

  • Weekday maths sessions land best between 6.30pm and 8.15pm here
  • Schedule after the first attempt at homework, never before it
  • Weekend mornings are the slot for full timed papers
  • Sessions move post-Iftar in Ramadan and pause through mock weeks

Timing decides whether a block delivers. In this community the afternoon runs late: campus finish between 2.45pm and 3.30pm depending on the school, ten to twenty minutes of gate queue at Jumeirah Park or on the Sports City side, and twelve to thirty-five minutes of driving depending on whether the school sits in Al Barsha South or Arabian Ranches. Clubs then take a good proportion of children out again until after six.

So weekday maths sessions work between 6.30pm and 8.15pm, and they work best after a first attempt at the problem set. A student who has tried the questions arrives with a specific sticking point, which is exactly what a specialist resolves quickly. A session placed before homework becomes supervised homework, which is a poor use of the rate and builds dependence rather than technique.

Weekend mornings are underused here and they are the right slot for whole papers under timed conditions, because a paper needs an uninterrupted ninety minutes that a weekday evening in this community rarely offers. For Cambridge candidates, the non-calculator paper in particular should be sat at full length rather than in pieces.

Online delivery is what keeps all of this flexible. With no travel on the tutor's side a session can move within the week when a tournament or a school deadline collides, shift to post-Iftar during Ramadan, and pause through mock weeks. A stop date is agreed at the start, so the arrangement ends deliberately instead of running into a second year unreviewed.

Where we tutor

What families around Jumeirah Golf Estates spend on maths

Rates are set by format and tutor category rather than by postcode, but buying patterns do vary across the communities near Jumeirah Golf Estates. These are the ones we see most often.

Jumeirah Park

Short drive from here, so in-home arrangements persist, often at a rate that includes a travel component the family has never seen itemised. Cambridge 0580 dominates the requests.

Dubai Sports City

Heavier use of the AED 45 to AED 150 budget band for maths homework supervision. Sensible for Year 9 and visibly insufficient for an Extended-tier Year 11 candidate eight weeks out.

Motor City

An active small-group market at local centres. Group maths revision works for sweeping content and does not work for the individual algebra gap that is actually costing the marks.

Al Barsha South and JVT

The densest tutor supply near this community and consequently the most competitive pricing, with the widest quality spread inside a single rate band.

The Springs

Strongly British-curriculum, so requests here are often Year 10 Extended consolidation rather than Year 11 rescue work. That is the cheaper intervention and the one with the best return.

The Meadows

Mixed curriculum intake, so a household can be buying IGCSE maths for one child and Diploma mathematics for another. Those are different tutors and bundling them is a false economy.

Emirates Hills

More enquiries in the premium band, where published Dubai rates reach AED 650 an hour. For standard 0580 Extended work that band buys scarcity, not better teaching.

Arabian Ranches

The longest regular school run from Jumeirah Golf Estates, which pushes sessions towards weekend mornings. Those slots suit timed-paper work better than weekday evenings anyway.

  • GEMS Metropole School, Motor City
  • Safa Community School
  • Bradenton Preparatory Academy

Al Barsha South, JVT and the Hessa Street belt

How matching works

From first enquiry to a tutor who fits

  1. 01

Find the code and the tier

The syllabus code and the tier are on the last report or the entry confirmation: 0580 or 4MA1, Core or Extended, Foundation or Higher. Both answers change the quote. A tier ceiling in particular should be established before a single session is bought, because no number of hours lifts it.

  2. 02

    Send one marked paper

A marked mock shows a specialist in twenty minutes which of the five habitual errors is costing marks and whether there is a genuine content gap underneath. That is what determines the session count, and the session count is what the price actually is. Any quote made without it is a guess you will pay to correct.

  3. 03

Ask for a block, not a slot

Request a session count, a total, the specific errors being targeted, and a review date against the next school assessment. In IGCSE mathematics the honest answer is usually six to nine sessions. A proposal for thirty weeks of weekly support should prompt the question of what it is aimed at.

  4. 04

Take the free trial on a lost question

You and your child meet the proposed code-specific tutor over live video. Hand them a question from the mock that was lost. Afterwards you get their read on the problem, a session count and the fee, and you decide. No payment is required to reach that point and nothing is conditional on booking.

    Review at the next assessment

Put the review in the calendar at the start. If the named errors have gone, stop or move to the next cluster. If they have not, we change the approach or the tutor. This step is what separates a block that works from a standing arrangement nobody has examined since September.

Why families choose us

What UAE parents tell us matters most

Blocks, not open-ended slots

Most IGCSE maths problems are six to nine sessions of habit correction, and we quote them that way with a review date attached. Selling a year of weekly support would be more profitable and would not be more honest, since the errors that cost the marks are visible in a single paper.

Staffed by syllabus code

Cambridge 0580 and Pearson 4MA1 are different qualifications with different paper structures, and one has a non-calculator paper while the other does not. That changes what should be drilled. We match on the code rather than on the subject name, because a generalist rarely volunteers which board they know.

We name the tier ceiling

A Core or Foundation entry caps the grade at 5, and we say so before taking a booking aimed at a 7. The useful response is a diagnostic block to test whether a tier change is realistic, or a November entry on the higher tier, not thirty sessions spent against a ceiling.

Attributed figures only

Every AED rate on this page belongs to the provider or survey that published it, with the research date given, and our own fee is quoted after the trial. No invented statistics, no self-asserted star ratings, no claim without a sample size, a date and a method.

Online delivery, stated before booking

Lessons are live one-to-one video in Gulf Standard Time. IB Gram makes no home visits in the UAE; in-person home tutoring exists only in our India service. You read that here rather than discovering it after an invoice, and no UAE enquiry goes to a non-UAE phone number.

We will tell you to stop

Sometimes three sessions on non-calculator fluency is the whole job. Sometimes a student is already improving and needs nobody. Sometimes removing one of three tuition slots raises the grade by freeing time for unaided practice. Saying so costs bookings and is why the ones we take tend to work.

Questions parents ask

IB and IGCSE tutoring in Jumeirah Golf Estates: your questions answered

How much does an IGCSE maths tutor cost in Jumeirah Golf Estates?+

Less than most families budget, if the work is specified properly. Published Dubai rates for a qualified subject tutor working online run roughly AED 150 to AED 300 an hour, and most IGCSE mathematics problems are six to nine sessions of habit correction, so AED 1,200 to AED 1,800 at a mid-band rate. A single weak content cluster is four to six sessions. Additional Mathematics 0606 is the exception, at twelve to fifteen. Those are market rates researched in October 2026, not IB Gram's prices, which follow the free trial lesson.

Which maths errors cost IGCSE students the most marks?+

Five, in order. Missing method lines on multi-mark questions, where the steps carry most of the marks and a wrong final answer loses nearly all of them. Rounding an intermediate value and carrying it forward, which forfeits the accuracy mark. Unlabelled diagrams, which lead to the wrong trigonometric rule executed perfectly. Answering a question adjacent to the one asked, including incomplete transformation descriptions. And, for Cambridge candidates, non-calculator fluency quietly decaying across Years 9 and 10. All five are visible in one marked paper.

Does Cambridge 0580 really have a non-calculator paper?+

The current Cambridge IGCSE Mathematics model assesses through two papers of equal weight, one taken without a calculator and one with, at both Core and Extended tiers. Pearson Edexcel International GCSE Mathematics A permits a calculator on both of its papers. Confirm the exact structure for your child's cohort with the school, since assessment models are periodically revised. The difference matters because a Cambridge candidate needs deliberate non-calculator drilling for half the available marks, and a Pearson candidate's time is better spent on problem-solving volume.

My child is on Core tier but needs a grade 7. What now?+

Tuition cannot deliver that, and it is important to know before spending. A Cambridge Core entry caps the maximum grade at 5, and a Pearson Foundation entry does the same. There are three honest routes. Ask the school whether a tier review is possible early in Year 11, which a six-session diagnostic block on Extended material can inform. Enter the November series on the higher tier, potentially as a private candidate through an approved Dubai centre. Or revise the post-16 plan. Buying thirty sessions against the ceiling achieves nothing.

Is Additional Mathematics 0606 worth taking in Year 11?+

If A Level Mathematics or IB Diploma Analysis and Approaches Higher Level is the plan, yes, and it is cheaper than any bridging tuition bought afterwards. It introduces calculus, logarithms, vectors and formal function notation a year early, which is exactly the content students arriving into the Diploma are missing. The caution is that it is genuinely harder, so a student not yet secure at Extended level should not be added to it as enrichment. Not every school near Jumeirah Golf Estates offers it, so ask before option forms are signed.

Which maths topics give the best return for tutoring money?+

The finite-rule clusters, because they have a learnable set of rules and a predictable question shape. Circle theorems take one or two sessions and recur reliably for several marks. Transformation descriptions take one session, since the marks are lost only to incompleteness. Histograms with unequal class widths take a single session and are one of the best returns in the syllabus. Algebraic manipulation is more expensive at four to six sessions but comes first, because weakness there shows up in trigonometry, graphs and problem-solving questions that are not about algebra.

Would a November resit cost less than a year of weekly maths tuition?+

Usually, and it is rarely priced in. Both Cambridge and Pearson run a November series, so a resit sits roughly five months after June. Thirty weeks of general support beforehand runs to around AED 6,000 at a mid-band rate; a focused eight to ten session block after results, aimed at one paper and one tier, is AED 1,600 to AED 2,000 plus the centre's entry fee. Two cautions: the November entry deadline falls before results have settled, and the entry fee is paid to the centre rather than to a tutor.

How many maths sessions does a grade move take at IGCSE?+

Six to nine, where the losses are habitual, which they usually are. Four to six where a marked paper shows one weak content cluster such as algebraic fractions or circle theorems. Five for Core-tier consolidation aimed at securing a 4 or 5. Eight to ten for a June-series run-in built around whole timed papers. Twelve to fifteen for Additional Mathematics 0606, which is genuinely new content. Any provider quoting before reading a marked paper is pricing a guess, and the first sessions will be spent on diagnosis you have already paid for.

Can group maths tuition work for an IGCSE student here?+

For sweeping content before mocks, yes, where everyone in the group is on the same code and tier. For the thing most students actually need, no. The individual algebraic gap or the particular habit costing marks on every paper is only visible when somebody is reading that student's work, and in a group of four nobody is. Cost per student falls and attention per student falls with it. Scheduling also becomes the binding constraint for every family involved, which in a club-heavy community is not a small problem.

Is online maths tuition as good as somebody at the table?+

For mathematics it is arguably better, because the medium is a shared writing surface. A worked solution builds line by line where both people can see it, the mark scheme sits open on both sides, and the session can be revisited afterwards. What matters much more than the room is whether the tutor knows the code: a specialist in Cambridge 0580 Extended who understands the non-calculator paper will do more for a grade over video than a general maths tutor will at a kitchen table.

What time should maths sessions run for a Jumeirah Golf Estates student?+

Between 6.30pm and 8.15pm on weekdays, and after the first attempt at homework rather than before it. The afternoon here runs late: campus finish between 2.45pm and 3.30pm, ten to twenty minutes of gate queue, twelve to thirty-five minutes of driving, then clubs in Dubai Sports City for many children. A student who has already tried the problem set arrives with a specific sticking point, which is what forty minutes with a specialist fixes. Weekend mornings are the right slot for full timed papers.

Could my child's maths problem actually be a reading problem?+

It happens more often than families expect. A noticeable proportion of students described as weak at mathematics are losing marks on comprehension of multi-step wordy questions: the algebra is fine and the interpretation of what the question wants is not. It shows up as a pattern on a marked paper, where short technical questions score well and longer contextual ones do not. It is fixable, but by planning and question-dissection work rather than by more algebra teaching, and buying the latter will not touch it.

Does a tutor need a UAE permit to teach my child maths online?+

Private tutoring in the UAE sits under a private tuition work permit introduced by Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023 and administered by MoHRE, granted free of charge for two years. Eligible applicants include registered school teachers, government and private-sector employees, unemployed residents, university students and school students aged 15 to 18. MoHRE's service page lists no fee and a two-working-day completion time. Ask a tutor directly whether they hold it and under which category. Tutoring without a permit carries fines and penalties under the applicable laws; no schedule of amounts is published.

What happens if the maths tutor turns out not to suit my child?+

We change them, and this is a question worth asking any provider before paying. A mismatch on pace or personality is our problem rather than yours, so a different code-specific tutor is proposed without argument and without a new joining cost. If no appropriate specialist is free in your windows, you are told the realistic wait instead, and where the available tutor is based outside the UAE you are told that before any payment is taken. Pearson 4MA1 supply is thinner in this market than Cambridge, which affects waits rather than rates.

Specify the job before you price it

IGCSE mathematics is usually a small, well-defined piece of work sold as a large vague one. Find the syllabus code, find the tier, send one marked paper, and ask for a session count with a review date attached. For most Jumeirah Golf Estates students the honest answer is six to nine sessions aimed at named habits, not thirty weeks of company. We will propose a code-specific specialist, you can test them in a free trial lesson over live video on a question your child actually lost, and the fee follows the diagnosis. No home visits in the UAE and no promised grades.
