IB Chemistry Tutor in Jumeirah Golf Estates

The question behind every search for an IB chemistry tutor in Jumeirah Golf Estates is whether anyone nearby actually knows this syllabus — the current Structure and Reactivity organisation, the data booklet, the mechanism conventions. The honest answer is that very few people do, almost nowhere. IB Gram matches Jumeirah Golf Estates students to chemistry specialists who teach one-to-one over live video, and sends no tutors to UAE addresses.

  • Matched to a chemist, not a general science tutor
  • Organic mechanism conventions taught as conventions, with marks attached
  • Data booklet treated as a skill the exam actually tests

IB & IGCSE in Jumeirah Golf Estates

Why a chemistry specialist is harder to find than a maths one

Every subject on a Diploma timetable has a different supply curve, and chemistry sits at the thin end of it. Mathematics teachers are relatively plentiful, because mathematics is taught to every student in every school. Chemistry at Higher Level is taught to a small subset of a small subset: around 7 per cent of Dubai's private-school pupils follow the IB at all, and only some of those take chemistry, and only some of those take it at Higher Level. The pool of adults who have taught it to examination standard is correspondingly small.

Now narrow that pool to people living within a short drive of Jumeirah Golf Estates, a community of a few thousand households wrapped around two golf courses, and then narrow it again to those free at the one hour your child is neither at school nor at training in Dubai Sports City. The expected count is below one. That is not a judgement about the neighbourhood; it is what happens when you intersect three small sets.

This matters more in chemistry than in most subjects because the syllabus has specific, non-obvious conventions that a generalist does not know. The current guide is organised around Structure and Reactivity rather than the older topic numbering, and a tutor working from an outdated organisation will teach content in the wrong relationships. Mechanism answers have required conventions: curly arrows starting from the right place, lone pairs shown, intermediates drawn. The data booklet is provided in the examination and students are expected to navigate it fluently. None of that is guessable from general chemistry knowledge.

So IB Gram's answer to the question in the search box is to stop asking it geographically. Your child is matched to a chemist who teaches that level, wherever they are, and the lesson happens one-to-one over live video at a fixed weekly time in Gulf Standard Time. We do not send tutors to homes anywhere in the UAE; in-person home tutoring is a service we run only in India. We state that before you book rather than after.

One further thing a parent should know before shortlisting anybody. Families almost always ring about organic chemistry, because it looks hardest on the page, and a marked script frequently shows the real problem one layer down: mole calculations that are not reliable under time pressure. Fixing those is four sessions and it improves energetics, equilibrium and every titration analysis at once, whereas starting with organic leaves the foundation untouched and the same marks lost in three other places.

The rest of this page is the detail you would use to test whether anyone — us or anybody else — actually knows the subject. It covers the syllabus organisation, where mechanism marks go, how the data booklet is examined, the four criteria of the internally assessed investigation, what Higher Level chemistry is actually needed for, and the market's published rates with attribution.

At a glance

  • IB chemistry teachers are scarce in absolute terms, not just locally
  • The current syllabus is organised around Structure and Reactivity
  • Mechanism marks depend on drawing conventions, not just the right product
  • The data booklet is provided and navigating it is an examined skill
  • Lessons are live one-to-one video; no tutor visits a UAE address
IB programmes

Every IB programme stage, mapped to UAE school years

Chemistry reaches a Jumeirah Golf Estates student in three stages, and the questions a parent should ask differ sharply between them.

DPAges 16-19 · Years 12-13

Diploma Programme Chemistry

Organised in two halves. Structure covers models of the particulate nature of matter, models of bonding and structure, and the classification of matter. Reactivity covers what drives chemical reactions, how much, how fast and how far, and what the mechanisms of chemical change are. Higher Level extends each area rather than adding separate topics. Assessment combines two written papers with an internally assessed scientific investigation; confirm current weightings with your school's subject guide.

UAE schools sit the May session. We publish no IB examination or results dates here, because ibo.org blocks automated verification; take yours from your school's IB coordinator. The date that actually governs when outside help is worth buying is the school's own investigation deadline, which sits months ahead of the papers and is set locally rather than by the board.

MYPAges 11-16 · Years 7-11

Middle Years Programme Sciences

Assessed against four criteria rather than examined, with chemistry taught either within integrated sciences or as a discipline depending on the school and the year group. Students arrive into Diploma Chemistry with reasonable inquiry skills and, frequently, thin quantitative chemistry: moles work, in particular, is often met properly for the first time in Year 12.

Schools around Jumeirah Golf Estates split between the Middle Years Programme and Cambridge IGCSE at this age. A student arriving from Cambridge 0620 has usually done more stoichiometry; a student arriving from the Middle Years Programme has usually done more investigation design. Both are useful and neither covers the whole gap.

PRE-DPAge 15-16 · Year 11 into Year 12

The handover into Chemistry Higher Level

The cheapest intervention available in this subject. Students entering Chemistry Higher Level need secure mole calculations, confident unit conversion, and the ability to read a chemical equation as a ratio rather than as a sentence. Four sessions on stoichiometry in the summer before Year 12 removes a disproportionate share of the Year 13 repair work we are later asked for.

For students coming from Cambridge IGCSE, the 0620 moles material is the right revision target rather than the organic chemistry, which the Diploma rebuilds from the beginning anyway. Families around Jumeirah Golf Estates frequently buy the opposite, because organic looks harder on the page.

Subject coverage

IB and IGCSE subjects we tutor

Chemistry divides into parts that fail in distinct ways, and a specialist can name which one a student is in from a single marked script. These are the parts tuition is actually bought for.

Stoichiometry and the mole

SL and HL

Moles, concentration, limiting reagents, percentage yield and gas calculations. The load-bearing skill in the whole subject: weakness here reappears in energetics, equilibrium and titration analysis. Usually four sessions and the highest-value block available.

Atomic structure and periodicity

SL and HL

Electron configuration, ionisation energy trends and periodic behaviour, with extension at Higher Level into transition metals and complex ions. Students lose marks explaining trends in terms of size alone where the mark scheme wants nuclear charge and shielding named together.

Bonding and structure

SL and HL

Ionic, covalent and metallic bonding, intermolecular forces, shapes of molecules and hybridisation at Higher Level. The common failure is loose vocabulary: answers about bond strength where the question is about intermolecular forces, which loses the mark entirely.

Energetics and thermochemistry

SL and HL

Enthalpy changes, Hess's law, bond enthalpies and, at Higher Level, entropy and Gibbs energy. Sign conventions are where the marks go, and a student who is fluent with moles finds this section considerably easier than one who is not.

Kinetics and equilibrium

SL and HL

Rate expressions, collision theory, dynamic equilibrium and Le Chatelier reasoning, with rate laws and the equilibrium constant extended at Higher Level. Le Chatelier answers lose marks by stating a direction without naming the change that caused the shift.

Acids, bases and redox

SL and HL

pH, strong and weak behaviour, buffers and electrochemistry, extended at Higher Level into pKa calculation and electrode potentials. Buffer calculations are the single most commonly muddled Higher Level item and they are efficient to tutor because the procedure is fixed.

Organic chemistry and mechanisms

SL and HL

Functional groups, reaction pathways and, at Higher Level, nucleophilic substitution, electrophilic addition and the drawing conventions that carry the marks. This is where most Higher Level session count goes and where a generalist is most visibly out of their depth.

Spectroscopy and structure determination

SL and HL

Mass spectrometry, infrared and nuclear magnetic resonance data interpreted together to deduce a structure. Entirely dependent on fluent data-booklet use, and one of the most teachable areas in the subject once the procedure is explicit.

Data analysis and uncertainties

SL and HL

Processing titration and calorimetry data, propagating uncertainty and judging whether a conclusion is supported. Assessed in its own right and taught unevenly, which makes two or three dedicated sessions one of the better returns in the course.

The scientific investigation

SL and HL, 20 per cent of the grade

A student-designed investigation marked out of 24 across four criteria. The high-value support is before data collection, interrogating the research question and the control of variables, and then on analysis afterwards, always as feedback on the student's own work.

How sessions run

Tutoring formats built around UAE school timetables

Chemistry support works in three shapes. Which one is right depends on the part of the syllabus failing, which a marked script establishes quickly.

Stoichiometry foundation block

Four or five sessions on moles, concentration, limiting reagents and yield, done properly and under timed conditions. Unglamorous and the single most effective purchase in the subject, because weakness here reappears in energetics, equilibrium and every titration analysis a student will ever do.

  • Calculation practice under timed conditions, not worked examples
  • Unit and significant-figure discipline built in from the start
  • Chemical equations read as ratios rather than as sentences
  • Ends when the calculations are reliable, usually in five sessions

Organic and mechanism block

Six to eight sessions on functional groups, reaction pathways and, at Higher Level, the mechanism conventions that carry the marks. The work is as much about drawing correctly as about predicting products, because an answer with the right product and the wrong arrows loses most of the available credit.

  • Curly arrow conventions taught explicitly, with mark allocations
  • Reaction pathway maps built by the student rather than handed over
  • Spectroscopy integrated, using the data booklet throughout
  • Past-paper mechanism questions marked line by line

Investigation design and analysis blocks

Two short blocks timed around the school's laboratory schedule: one before data collection to interrogate the research question and variable control, one afterwards on processing, uncertainty and evaluation. The tutor gives feedback on the student's own work and never writes, rewrites or completes any part of it.

  • Research question tested for feasibility before lab time is spent
  • Variable control checked against the design criterion
  • Uncertainty propagation and graphing done on a shared screen
  • A dated record of advice given, which protects the student

What IB and IGCSE study actually looks like in Jumeirah Golf Estates

The honest answer about local chemistry supply

Take the numbers seriously for a moment. Dubai's private sector served 387,441 students across 227 private schools in 2024-25, offering 17 different curricula, with the International Baccalaureate accounting for 7 per cent of enrolment against 37 per cent for the UK curriculum. Of the IB cohort, a fraction take chemistry; of those, a fraction take it at Higher Level. The absolute number of adults in the emirate who teach Higher Level IB Chemistry is small, and nearly all of them are employed full time at the schools that offer it.

Intersect that with Jumeirah Golf Estates and the arithmetic becomes stark. A few thousand households, and the requirement that the person be free between 6.30pm and 8.15pm on a specific weekday. Families discover this empirically, after two or three disappointing trial lessons with capable people who turn out to be teaching from a different syllabus organisation or a different board entirely.

There is a related trap. Research across sixty-odd competitor pages in this market in October 2026 found providers listing twenty-five or more schools as clients with no apparent relationship, agencies routing UAE parents to Indian phone numbers, and one page showing a Dubai footer address on an Abu Dhabi page. A claim of local chemistry coverage costs a provider nothing to make and is almost impossible for a parent to check.

So the three questions worth asking anybody, including us, are concrete. Which school do you teach chemistry at, and at what level? Which parts of the current Structure and Reactivity organisation have you taught most recently? And do you hold the MoHRE private tuition work permit? Those answers are checkable. A pin on a map is not. The table sets out how a chemistry match typically resolves for a family in this part of New Dubai, including what we say when the answer is no.

Structure and Reactivity: the syllabus as it is now

A quick test of whether somebody knows this subject: ask how the syllabus is organised. The current guide is built in two halves. Structure covers models of the particulate nature of matter, models of bonding and structure, and the classification of matter. Reactivity covers what drives chemical reactions, how much and how fast and how far they go, and what the mechanisms of chemical change are. Higher Level extends within each of those areas rather than bolting on separate options.

That organisation is not cosmetic. It deliberately links ideas that the older topic-numbered structure kept apart, so a question can move from bonding to intermolecular forces to a physical property to a reaction rate inside a single extended response. A tutor teaching from the old organisation will cover the same facts in relationships the examination no longer assumes, and the student will keep being surprised by the connections questions ask for.

The practical consequence for a Jumeirah Golf Estates parent is that currency matters more in chemistry than in most subjects. Somebody who taught this course four years ago and has not taught it since knows a different course. It is a fair and non-confrontational question to ask at a trial: which parts of Structure and Reactivity have you taught in the last two years?

Confirm the detail against your school's own subject guide rather than against any tutoring page, including this one. Science guides are periodically revised, schools work from the version their cohort sits, and the version your child sits is the only one that matters.

03

Organic mechanisms: where the Higher Level grade is decided

  • Mechanism marks are for the conventions, not only for the product
  • Arrows must start at electron density and end where it goes
  • Students should build their own pathway map rather than receive one
  • Spectroscopy deduction depends entirely on data-booklet fluency

If one part of Higher Level chemistry accounts for the gap between a 5 and a 7, it is organic mechanisms. The reason is that the marks are not only for knowing what happens. They are for showing it according to convention: curly arrows beginning at a lone pair or a bond rather than at an atom, arrows ending where the electron density goes, intermediates drawn with charges shown, and the distinction between homolytic and heterolytic fission made visible.

Students who have learned organic chemistry as a set of outcomes — this reagent gives that product — can answer a recall question and lose almost everything on a mechanism question, because the product was never the point. That failure mode is invisible in classwork and brutal in a mark scheme. It is also entirely fixable, because conventions are learnable in a way that intuition is not.

The second half of the work is pathway construction. A question that asks how to convert one molecule into another two steps away requires the student to hold a map of transformations and the conditions attached to each. Students who are given a pathway diagram memorise it and cannot reconstruct it; students who build their own map, badly at first, can. So a good tutor refuses to hand the map over, which is slower and works.

Spectroscopy belongs with this. Mass spectrometry, infrared and nuclear magnetic resonance data are interpreted together to deduce a structure, and the whole procedure depends on fluent use of the data booklet provided in the examination. That is the subject of the next section, and it is the part most students are quietly guessing at.

04

The data booklet is an examined skill

  • Fluent navigation of the booklet is worth several marks in timing alone
  • Knowing what the booklet omits prevents time wasted searching
  • Given precision governs the significant figures in the answer
  • Official booklets and papers are linked, never redistributed by us

Chemistry candidates are given a data booklet in the examination containing constants, bond enthalpies, electronegativity values, spectroscopic data and acid dissociation information. Because it is provided, students and sometimes schools treat it as a safety net. The examination treats it as a tool a competent chemist uses fluently, and the difference shows up in timing.

A student who knows exactly which page holds the infrared absorption ranges, which holds the proton environments for nuclear magnetic resonance, and which holds the bond enthalpies, answers a structure-determination question in six minutes. A student who has to search answers it in fourteen, or runs out of time and guesses. That is a difference of several marks on a paper, produced by nothing more than familiarity.

There is a second-order skill as well: knowing what the booklet does not contain, so that time is not wasted looking. And a third: understanding why a value is given to a particular precision, which is what governs the significant figures in the answer. Both of those are teachable in a session and almost never taught explicitly.

A practical note on materials, because this is where some providers in this market cross a line. We do not reproduce or distribute IB syllabus documents, data booklets, past papers, mark schemes, grade-boundary tables or subject guides as downloads. Tutors reference them and link to the official source, and a student should be working from the copy their school provides. A provider offering a folder containing all of it is telling you something about the rest of their practice.

05

The scientific investigation: 24 marks, four criteria

The internally assessed investigation contributes 20 per cent of the chemistry grade and is marked out of 24 across four criteria covering research design, data analysis, conclusion and evaluation. Confirm the current criteria and allocations with your school, because the science guides were restructured relatively recently and the version your child's cohort sits is the one that counts.

In chemistry the design criterion is where a project is usually won or lost, and it is settled before any measurement is taken. A titration-based investigation with too few concentrations, or a calorimetry investigation where heat loss cannot be controlled or even estimated, produces a capped mark that no amount of later writing improves. Three sessions at that stage, before school laboratory time is used, is a small block with a large effect.

The evaluation criterion is where otherwise strong chemists lose marks. It asks for honest, specific limitation of the method: not that more repeats would have helped, but that heat loss to the surroundings introduced a systematic error of roughly a known magnitude, and what that does to the conclusion drawn. That is a taught skill, and it is the single most coachable part of the report.

The boundary is firm. A tutor may question the research question, point out that a method will not produce analysable data, explain what each criterion rewards, mark a draft against the criteria, and teach uncertainty convention and referencing. A tutor may not write any part of the report, rewrite the student's prose, supply a research question as a finished product, provide data the student has not collected, or edit a draft to completion. Our tutors decline requests that cross that line. One operator in this market was found selling completed Internal Assessments at AED 3,750; buying one is academic malpractice and the consequence falls on the student rather than the seller.

Is Chemistry Higher Level actually required?

This question drives a lot of unnecessary stress in Jumeirah Golf Estates households, usually because an answer has been inherited from a friend rather than read from a university page. The accurate position is that it depends entirely on the degree and the institution, and that the only reliable source is the published entry requirement for the specific course under consideration.

Medicine commonly expects chemistry, often at Higher Level, and often alongside biology. Engineering more often specifies physics and mathematics. Pharmacy, dentistry and veterinary routes frequently specify chemistry. Many other degrees, including most business, humanities and design courses, do not require it at all. Students sometimes carry Chemistry Higher Level for two painful years for a plan that never needed it, which is worth checking in Year 11 rather than Year 13.

For families considering UAE universities, there is a separate process that is not a subject-choice matter and not a tutoring matter. Equivalency of the school-leaving certificate is performed by the Ministry of Education. For the British track the published requirement is five accredited GCSE or IGCSE subjects at no less than E or grade 3, excluding Arabic and Islamic education, plus one A Level at no less than E or two AS Levels at the same grade. For the American track, English requires IELTS 5, TOEFL iBT 61 or SAT 450 in reading and writing, and mathematics requires at least 450 in SAT Math.

For the IB there is an equivalency figure circulating on tutoring sites and we are not repeating it, because we have not read it on a Ministry of Education source. If somebody quotes you an IB points threshold, ask where on moe.gov.ae or the emirate's attestation authority it appears. Tutoring is not a requirement for equivalency, and no tutoring provider performs or guarantees it.

What chemistry tuition costs, and which block you need

Rates in this market are published by format rather than by subject, so chemistry costs roughly what any specialist subject costs. What differs is the size of the job. Published Dubai rates for a qualified subject tutor working online run about AED 150 to AED 300 an hour, with specialist IB, IGCSE and A-Level provision quoted at AED 200 to AED 450 and above, one UK-based agency publishing AED 270, and premium named or examiner-led tuition quoted as high as AED 650. Budget online tuition is advertised from AED 45 to AED 150, one platform listing from AED 33 to AED 52.

For chemistry the budget band is a poor match. Supervision does not resolve a mechanism convention or a buffer calculation, and the gap will not surface until a mock. The specialist band is where this subject lives, and the informative comparison is the block: four or five sessions for stoichiometry, six to eight for organic and mechanisms, two or three for data analysis, three plus two around the investigation.

In-home visits in Dubai are advertised at AED 180 to AED 500 an hour including travel, with one provider publishing AED 1,599 to AED 1,799 a month for four two-hour in-home sessions against AED 799 for eight online sessions. For chemistry the premium is hard to justify, partly because of the travel and partly because mechanism work is better done on a shared screen, where arrows can be drawn, erased and redrawn where both people can see them.

Every figure here was read from the provider's own published page in October 2026 and describes the market rather than IB Gram. Our own fee follows the free trial lesson, once a marked script has shown whether this is a four-session stoichiometry job or a two-term organic programme.

Who is permitted to teach chemistry privately in the UAE

  • The MoHRE private tuition permit is free and valid for two years
  • Scarcity is not a reason to engage your child's own chemistry teacher
  • No individual tutor holds a KHDA licence; that permit covers premises
  • We make no examiner claims, because they cannot be publicly evidenced

Because the specialist pool is so small, parents in this situation sometimes consider approaching the school directly, which makes the permit position worth knowing precisely. Private tutoring in the UAE requires a private tuition work permit, introduced by Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023 and administered by the Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation. It is granted free of charge for two years, and MoHRE's own listing for issuance of a new work permit for private tutor licensing shows no fee and a two-working-day completion time, applied for through the MoHRE smart app, website or e-services system.

Eligible categories include teachers registered in government or private schools, government and private-sector employees, unemployed individuals, university students and school students aged 15 to 18. Individuals offering private tutoring without a permit are subject to fines and penalties under the applicable laws; no fine schedule has been published, so no amount can honestly be quoted and we do not quote one.

The boundary that applies directly here: ADEK's professional-ethics rules for private and charter school staff prohibit teachers from giving paid private tuition to students enrolled at their own school, and the permit's code of conduct carries a similar restriction. This is press-reported and should be verified against the current ADEK policy document before being treated as exact wording. Whatever the precise text, the practical rule is clear — do not engage your child's own chemistry teacher as a paid private tutor, however scarce chemists are.

And what nobody holds. A tutoring business with premises in Dubai needs an Educational Services Permit for a training institute from KHDA. IB Gram holds no such permit, operates no UAE office or centre, and is not accredited, licensed, approved by or partnered with KHDA, ADEK, SPEA, the Ministry of Education, MoHRE, the IB, Cambridge or Pearson. We also do not describe any tutor as a current IB examiner, because that status cannot be evidenced from a website and should never be implied to confer access to marking or grade boundaries.

Where we tutor

Where a chemistry specialist might actually be

The point of this list is the opposite of the usual one. These are the communities around Jumeirah Golf Estates, and what they illustrate is how little difference the geography makes once the subject gets this specific.

Dubai Sports City

Adjacent and the densest residential pocket nearby, with the largest adult population within ten minutes. Even so, Higher Level chemistry teachers in it can be counted on one hand, and they are employed full time.

Jumeirah Park

The nearest school is British curriculum, which means the chemistry taught there is Cambridge or Pearson rather than IB. A capable teacher from that campus is not automatically useful for the Diploma.

Al Barsha South and JVT

The nearest IB continuum provision, fifteen to twenty-five minutes out, and therefore the nearest concentration of people who have taught this syllabus. They are also the people least likely to be free at 7pm.

The Meadows

Adjacent to continuum provision, with Diploma chemistry taught on site. Families here sometimes assume proximity helps and find the constraint is the teacher's own timetable rather than the drive.

Arabian Ranches

Long-established Diploma provision twenty to thirty minutes away. The chemistry requests from this direction are weighted towards organic mechanisms and the investigation rather than towards the basics.

Emirates Hills

More enquiries in the premium band, where Dubai rates reach AED 650 an hour, often attached to an examiner claim. For chemistry specifically, ask what evidence supports it before paying.

Al Sufouh

Thirty to thirty-five minutes along Al Khail, with several long-standing international campuses. A plausible source of specialists and an implausible commute for a weekday evening session.

Motor City

Ten to fifteen minutes, with an active tuition centre market. Group chemistry revision works for content sweeps and not for the mechanism-drawing conventions that cost individual marks.

The Meadows, Emirates Hills and Arabian Ranches

The established villa-belt cluster with long-standing Diploma science provision. Chemistry at Higher Level is offered on fewer timetables than biology across this cluster, which is part of why the specialist pool is thin.

How matching works

From first enquiry to a tutor who fits

  1. 01

Say which part of the syllabus is failing

Chemistry is not one problem. Stoichiometry, energetics, equilibrium, organic mechanisms and data analysis fail differently and need different session counts. Tell us the level and the area currently being taught, and if the trouble is the investigation rather than the content, say so, because that changes the timing of everything.

  2. 02

    Send one marked script

A marked mock distinguishes the four patterns a specialist looks for: unreliable mole calculations, loose explanation vocabulary, mechanism conventions never learned, and data-booklet unfamiliarity showing up as time pressure. Those have different fixes, and the script shows which in twenty minutes.

  3. 03

Test the tutor on currency, not credentials

At the trial, ask which parts of Structure and Reactivity they have taught in the last two years, and have them mark your child's lost mechanism question out loud. Somebody teaching the current course answers both easily. Somebody who last taught it years ago knows a differently organised subject.

  4. 04

Take the free trial on a real question

You and your child meet the proposed chemist over live video. Hand them the question that was lost. Afterwards you get their read on which failure pattern is operating, a session count and the fee, and you decide. No payment is needed to reach that point and nothing is conditional.

  5. 05

Time the investigation blocks to the school

Book the design block before the laboratory session and the analysis block after it, not as one continuous arrangement. In chemistry the design criterion is settled before a single titration is run, and there is very little a tutor can usefully add while measurements are being taken.

Why families choose us

What UAE parents tell us matters most

A chemist, not a science tutor

Mechanism conventions, data-booklet fluency and the current Structure and Reactivity organisation are not guessable from general chemistry knowledge. We match to somebody who teaches this level of this subject, which is why the pool is national rather than local and why we do not pretend otherwise.

Honest about local scarcity

Higher Level chemistry teachers are rare in absolute terms and almost never free at the hour a Jumeirah Golf Estates child can work. We publish that instead of claiming local coverage, and where the available specialist is based outside the UAE we say so before any payment is taken.

Stoichiometry first, even when it is not the complaint

Families usually ask about organic chemistry because it looks hardest on the page. A marked script frequently shows unreliable mole calculations underneath, and fixing those is four sessions that improve energetics, equilibrium and every titration analysis at the same time.

The data booklet is taught as a skill

It is provided in the examination, which leads schools and students to treat it as a safety net. Fluent navigation is worth several marks in timing alone on a structure-determination question, and we teach it deliberately rather than assuming it will be absorbed.

Online delivery, stated before booking

Lessons are live one-to-one video in Gulf Standard Time. IB Gram makes no home visits in the UAE; in-person home tutoring exists only in our India service. For chemistry the shared screen is an advantage, because mechanism arrows can be drawn, erased and redrawn where both people see them.

No examiner claims, no guarantees, no invented data

We do not describe tutors as current examiners, we do not guarantee grades or improvements, and we publish no statistic without a sample size, a date and a method. Every AED figure on this page belongs to a named provider or rate survey with the research date stated.

Questions parents ask

IB and IGCSE tutoring in Jumeirah Golf Estates: your questions answered

Is there really an IB chemistry tutor near Jumeirah Golf Estates who knows this syllabus?+

Honestly, rarely. The International Baccalaureate accounts for about 7 per cent of Dubai private-school enrolment, only a fraction of that cohort takes chemistry, and only a fraction of those take it at Higher Level — so the absolute number of people who teach it is small, and nearly all are employed full time. Narrow that to a villa community of a few thousand households and to a specific weekday evening hour and the expected count is below one. That arithmetic is why we match online by level and syllabus area rather than by driving distance.

How is the IB chemistry syllabus organised now?+

In two halves. Structure covers models of the particulate nature of matter, models of bonding and structure, and the classification of matter. Reactivity covers what drives chemical reactions, how much and how fast and how far they go, and the mechanisms of chemical change. Higher Level extends within each area rather than adding separate options. The organisation matters because questions deliberately link ideas the older topic numbering kept apart, so a tutor working from the previous structure teaches the same facts in the wrong relationships. Confirm detail with your school's subject guide.

Why does my child lose marks on mechanisms despite getting the right product?+

Because the marks are largely for the conventions. Curly arrows must begin at a lone pair or a bond rather than at an atom, must end where the electron density goes, intermediates must be drawn with charges shown, and homolytic and heterolytic fission must be visibly distinguished. A student who learned organic chemistry as a list of outcomes can name the product and lose nearly all the mechanism marks. It is invisible in classwork and brutal in a mark scheme, and it is entirely fixable because conventions are learnable.

Does the data booklet mean my child does not need to memorise values?+

It means something more demanding: the examination assumes fluent use of it. A student who knows which page holds the infrared absorption ranges, which holds the nuclear magnetic resonance proton environments and which holds bond enthalpies answers a structure-determination question in six minutes. A student who has to search takes fourteen or runs out of time. There are two further skills: knowing what the booklet omits so no time is wasted looking, and reading the given precision to decide the significant figures in the answer.

What is the first thing a chemistry tutor should fix?+

Usually stoichiometry, even when the complaint is organic chemistry. Moles, concentration, limiting reagents and percentage yield are load-bearing: weakness there reappears in energetics, in equilibrium and in every titration analysis the student will ever do. Four or five sessions of timed calculation practice, with unit and significant-figure discipline built in, improves several parts of the course at once. Families tend to ask about organic first because it looks hardest on the page, and a marked script frequently shows the mole work underneath it.

How is the chemistry investigation marked, and when should we get help?+

It is worth 20 per cent of the grade and marked out of 24 across four criteria covering research design, data analysis, conclusion and evaluation; confirm the current version with your school. Help is worth most twice and not in between. Three sessions before the laboratory work, because the design criterion is settled before a single titration runs and a question with too few concentrations caps the mark permanently. Then two sessions afterwards on processing, uncertainty propagation and the evaluation, which is where strong chemists lose marks by listing generic improvements.

Can a tutor help with the chemistry IA without crossing a line?+

Yes, within a clear boundary. A tutor can question the research question, point out that a method will not produce analysable data, explain what each criterion rewards, mark a draft against the criteria, and teach uncertainty convention and referencing. A tutor cannot write any part of the report, rewrite the student's prose, supply a research question as a finished product, provide data the student has not collected, or edit a draft to completion. One operator in this market was found selling completed Internal Assessments at AED 3,750; that is malpractice and the student carries the consequence.

Is Chemistry Higher Level required for medicine?+

Commonly expected, often alongside biology, and the only reliable source is the published entry requirement for the specific course and university your child is considering. Dentistry, pharmacy and veterinary routes frequently specify it too, and chemical engineering usually expects it with mathematics and physics. Many degrees — most business, humanities and design courses — do not require it at all. Students sometimes carry Chemistry Higher Level for two difficult years for a plan that never needed it, which is worth checking in Year 11 rather than in Year 13.

How much does an IB chemistry tutor cost in this part of Dubai?+

Rates are published by format rather than by subject, so chemistry costs roughly what any specialist subject does: about AED 150 to AED 300 an hour for a qualified online subject tutor, AED 200 to AED 450 and above for specialist IB provision, one UK agency at AED 270, and up to AED 650 for premium examiner-led work. What differs is the block: four or five sessions for stoichiometry, six to eight for organic and mechanisms, two or three for data analysis. Market rates researched October 2026, not IB Gram's prices.

Is Chemistry HL genuinely much harder than SL?+

It is deeper rather than broader, which is a specific kind of harder. Higher Level extends within each syllabus area rather than adding separate topics: transition metals and complex ions, hybridisation and formal charge, entropy and Gibbs energy, rate laws and pKa calculation, and the full mechanism treatment of nucleophilic substitution and electrophilic addition. The step up in mathematical demand is real, which is why a student with unreliable mole calculations struggles disproportionately. The honest test is whether the Year 11 quantitative work was secure, not whether the student enjoys the subject.

Can online chemistry tuition handle mechanism drawing?+

It handles it better than paper does, which surprises people. Mechanism work is iterative — draw the arrow, see why it is wrong, erase it, draw it again — and a shared screen lets both people watch that happen in real time, with the previous attempt still visible for comparison. The session can also be revisited later, which matters when a student is learning conventions rather than facts. What online cannot replace is the school laboratory, where measurement sense is built, and we would not claim otherwise.

My child is at a British-curriculum school and switching to Chemistry HL. What should we prepare?+

The moles work, not the organic chemistry. The Diploma rebuilds organic from the beginning, so time spent revising Cambridge 0620 or Pearson 4CH1 organic content largely duplicates what Year 12 will do anyway. What does not get rebuilt is quantitative confidence: reading a chemical equation as a ratio, concentration calculations, limiting reagents and unit conversion. Four sessions on that in the summer before Year 12 removes a disproportionate share of the Year 13 repair work, and families around Jumeirah Golf Estates usually buy the opposite.

What three questions should I ask a prospective chemistry tutor?+

Which school do you teach chemistry at, and at what level? Which parts of the current Structure and Reactivity organisation have you taught in the last two years? And can you mark this specific lost mechanism question and tell me what the scheme wanted? The first two establish currency, which matters more in chemistry than in most subjects because the syllabus organisation changed. The third is the real test, and a specialist does it with a mark scheme open rather than talking about study skills and confidence.

What if no chemistry specialist is free when we need one?+

You get the realistic wait and the specialist's location, not a general science tutor. Availability is thinnest for Higher Level organic and mechanisms in the eight weeks before the May session, and spectroscopy and structure determination is the single scarcest request in this syllabus. In the meantime we can often run a stoichiometry or data-analysis block with a different specialist, which is useful work rather than filler. Where the available tutor is based outside the UAE, we say so, including the time zone, before any payment.

Test the chemistry, not the postcode

If you have been searching for an IB chemistry tutor in Jumeirah Golf Estates, the thing to test is not how far away somebody lives. It is whether they can mark your child's lost mechanism question with a scheme open, say which parts of Structure and Reactivity they taught last year, and tell you where the data booklet keeps the infrared ranges. Send us the level, the syllabus area and one marked script, and we will propose a chemist you can test on exactly that in a free trial lesson over live video. No home visits in the UAE and no promised grades.
