IGCSE Home Tutor in Town Square

Most families looking for an IGCSE home tutor in Town Square are quoted a number on a phone call with nothing to compare it against, because three of the six most visible providers in this search publish no price at all. This page gives you the AED bands the Dubai market actually charges, names who published each one, and then says where the money goes nowhere.

IB & IGCSE in Town Square

What IGCSE tutoring costs in Town Square, with sources

Start with the state of the market, because it explains why this page exists. Of the six most visible competitor pages in this search cluster, three publish no price whatsoever and two quote US dollars — a currency no Town Square family pays school fees in. One ranking agency's own frequently-asked-questions section raises the price question and then declines to answer it. The ordinary experience of shopping for an IGCSE tutor in Dubai is therefore to receive a number over the phone with no way to judge it.

Here is the published market. Budget online tutoring advertises from AED 33-65 an hour, with Tutopiya from AED 33-52 and EdFlik from AED 45-65. Qualified online subject tutors run AED 150-300, with Unitors publishing IGCSE from AED 150. Specialist IGCSE, IB and A Level tutors run AED 200-450 and above, with TutorChase publishing AED 270 and Bestimate's Dubai rate research giving the specialist band as AED 200-450 plus. At the premium end BartyED publishes AED 650. In-home visiting runs AED 180-500 an hour including travel. All read from the publishing provider's own page in October 2026.

Monthly is the figure a household budget actually registers. Bestimate estimates a weekly one-hour arrangement at AED 240-600 a month for budget tutoring, AED 600-1,200 for mid-tier and AED 1,000-2,000 or more for specialist exam-year work. Advertised packages include around AED 799 a month for eight online sessions and AED 1,599-1,799 a month for four in-home two-hour visits.

Context helps too. KHDA confirmed on 22 May 2026 that there would be no increase in private school fees in Dubai for the 2026-27 academic year, under the emirate's second economic incentives package valued at AED 1.5 billion within a AED 2.5 billion total. For a Town Square family, that means the school-fee line is flat while the tutoring line is entirely discretionary — which makes it worth spending deliberately rather than reactively.

None of the figures above are IB Gram prices. We publish no rate card on these pages, because an honest number depends on the board, the tier, the year group and how many weeks remain, and a price quoted before those are known is a marketing device. What this page does instead is set out the bands, list the extras that get added after the headline rate, and name the four patterns that waste money in this community.

One delivery note, because it affects the cost comparison directly. Lessons for Town Square families are one-to-one over live video on Gulf Standard Time, and we make no home visits anywhere in the UAE — in-home tutoring is a service we run in India only. From Al Qudra Road, a visiting tutor's rate carries seventy to ninety minutes of driving inside it, and that portion of the invoice teaches nobody anything.

IB programmes

Every IB programme stage, mapped to UAE school years

What you are buying changes with the year group, and so does the cost of leaving it late. These are the stages we cover for Town Square IGCSE families.

Y9Ages 13-14 · Year 9

Year 9, the cheap year

Nothing is externally examined, so nothing feels urgent, which is exactly why this is the least expensive place to fix a problem. Written explanation, algebraic fluency and the habit of showing method cost a fraction here of what they cost in Year 11, when they have to be repaired under time pressure alongside new content.

Town Square has a young population and plenty of mid-stage arrivals, so a child joining in Year 9 from another system meets a different topic order partway through. A short diagnostic block at this point is the best-value purchase in the entire sequence, and almost nobody makes it because nothing looks wrong yet.

Y10Ages 14-15 · Year 10

Year 10, where the grade is bought

The first examined year. Most syllabus content is delivered, tier placement is confirmed, and the habits that earn or forfeit method marks settle. One session a week here is unurgent and inexpensive, and it is the last point at which a tier change is realistically available.

Do the totals rather than the hourly comparison. A weekly mid-band session across Year 10 at the published AED 600-1,200 monthly range costs less over the year than a Year 11 specialist block at AED 1,000-2,000 a month plus the extra subjects such blocks usually pull in. Families compare rates and almost never compare totals.

Y11Ages 15-16 · Year 11

Year 11, the expensive year

Mocks, entries, then the series. Work shifts from content to producing marks: timing, command-term discipline, showing method, reading a question for what it asks. This is when most families buy, at the highest rates, for the shortest remaining window.

By February the honest conversation is triage rather than coverage. We would rather name the two subjects where a grade can realistically move than take a fee across five, because five dilutes every session and the student is too tired to use any of it. That conversation costs us money and it is the one worth having.

ResitAges 16+ · after the June series

November entry and resits

The cheapest purchase in the sequence: one subject, a defined topic list, a fixed endpoint at the November papers. Six to ten sessions is frequently the entire requirement, which makes it far better value than an open-ended arrangement running all year.

Before planning anything: UAE candidates sit the June and November Cambridge series, and the February/March series is offered to India only. Pearson Edexcel International GCSE runs May/June and November, with November results reaching students in January.

Subject coverage

IB and IGCSE subjects we tutor

IGCSE is many subjects with very different cost profiles. These are the ones Town Square families buy help with, and what each is genuinely worth paying for.

Mathematics

Cambridge 0580 Core and Extended; Pearson 4MA1 Foundation and Higher

The most commonly bought and the one where tier matters most, because Core and Foundation cap below the top grades. Paying specialist rates inside a capped tier buys something undeliverable. Algebraic manipulation is the highest-return topic in the subject.

Physics

Cambridge 0625; Pearson 4PH1

Formula rearrangement, units carried through and precise definitions. Electricity and waves recur as weak areas. Where the Alternative to Practical route applies, it is reliably where the most marks are available relative to the effort of preparing for it.

Chemistry

Cambridge 0620; Pearson 4CH1

Moles and stoichiometry are the wall, and the required ion tests and qualitative analysis are heavily examined and quick to secure. A student who can balance an equation may still fail multi-step conversions under time pressure.

Biology

Cambridge 0610; Pearson 4BI1

Recall volume plus command-term precision. The cheapest improvement available is teaching the difference between describe, explain and suggest, which takes weeks rather than terms and is almost never taught explicitly.

English Language

Cambridge 0500 or 0990; Pearson 4EA1

Directed writing and the extended response carry the marks, and both are won on structure and register. Reading questions reward precise textual reference against the mark scheme, so retelling the passage is effort spent for nothing.

English as a Second Language

Cambridge 0510 and 0511

Good value for targeted work because the component skills are discrete and measurable. A short block aimed at one weak strand produces visible movement, which makes a fixed-scope purchase more sensible than an open-ended arrangement.

Economics and Business Studies

Cambridge 0455 and 0450

Diagrams must be drawn and then used. Data-response questions reward applying a concept and reaching a judgement, so money spent on memorising terminology is wasted while money spent on case practice is not.

Computer Science and ICT

Cambridge 0478 and 0417

Theory carries more weight than families expect, covering data representation, logic and networks. Students comfortable at a keyboard still lose marks hand-tracing algorithms, which is a narrow and inexpensive thing to fix.

Arabic

Cambridge first and additional language routes

Mandatory in all Dubai private schools regardless of curriculum, with KHDA requiring separate classes for Arabs and non-Arabs because curriculum expectations and the language of instruction differ. Support must match the stream the student sits.

Additional Mathematics

Cambridge 0606

A bridge to A Level or Higher Level Diploma maths. Worth paying for only if the intended post-16 route needs it, in which case it is worth paying for properly, because residual algebraic weakness is exposed immediately.

How sessions run

Tutoring formats built around UAE school timetables

Three purchases of very different sizes, all delivered online over live video. The cheapest one that solves your actual problem is the right one.

Fixed-scope block, one subject

The smallest useful purchase. One named weakness, a topic list agreed as the scope, six to ten sessions, then a review and a deliberate stop with no automatic rollover. For a capable student with a single gap — moles, circle theorems, directed writing structure — this is frequently the whole requirement.

  • Scope written down before the first session
  • Six to ten sessions, then an honest stop
  • Usually the lowest total cost that changes anything
  • Also the right shape for a November resit entry

Weekly through Year 10

One session a week across the first examined year, following the school's topic order and closing gaps as they appear. Over two years this usually costs less in total than a Year 11 rescue, and it is the only mode in which a tier change remains a live option.

  • Sixty minutes weekly in a fixed Gulf Standard Time slot
  • Tier compatibility reviewed while the decision is still open
  • Paced against the school scheme of work
  • Half-term reviews against specification objectives

Year 11 exam-term intensive

The most expensive mode and occasionally the necessary one. Two or three sessions a week from after the mocks, working correct-board past papers under timed conditions with the error pattern deciding what gets taught. Quoted only after a diagnostic, and we will say when the remaining time does not justify it.

  • Diagnostic on the correct board's papers before any quote
  • Two or three sessions weekly through the final term
  • Honest triage: which subjects can move and which cannot
  • Scales down rather than running to the papers by default

01

The extras nobody quotes you

The headline hourly rate is not the cost of tutoring, and the gap between the two is where families feel misled even when nobody lied to them. Here is what commonly gets added, and what to ask about before you agree anything.

Session length versus hour. A rate quoted per session rather than per hour is not comparable to one quoted per hour, and a fifty-minute session priced as an hour is a ten per cent increase nobody mentioned. Ask whether the figure is per hour or per lesson, and how long a lesson is. Then there is the minimum commitment: some providers quote a rate that assumes a block of ten or twenty sessions paid up front, and the single-session price is higher. Ask what happens if you stop after one.

Cancellation and rescheduling terms matter more in a community with a long school run, because traffic and illness genuinely cause late changes. A twenty-four hour cancellation policy with a full charge inside it is normal and worth knowing about; so is whether a missed session can be made up at all. Travel surcharges apply to in-home arrangements and are frequently quoted as a separate line into outer communities, which is honest but needs asking for.

Then the ones that are easy to forget. Assessment or diagnostic fees charged separately. Report or progress-review charges. Materials fees, which should make you ask what is being supplied, because awarding-body past papers and mark schemes are copyright and should not be sold to you by anybody. And VAT treatment — we will not state the UAE VAT position on tuition as fact without a Federal Tax Authority citation, so ask any provider plainly whether their quoted figure includes it.

QUESTIONS TO ASK BEFORE AGREEING ANY TUTORING RATE
What to askWhy it changes the real costWhat a straight answer sounds like
Is that per hour or per lesson, and how long is a lesson?A fifty-minute session priced as an hour is a ten per cent increaseA specific duration, stated without hesitation

The Dubai market by band, cheapest first

Sorting by price rather than prestige shows what each step upwards actually adds, which is the only useful way to compare. The bottom band buys attention and company. The middle buys specification knowledge. The top buys scarcity, and sometimes a credential you cannot verify.

Working up through the published figures: budget online tutoring AED 33-65 an hour, with Tutopiya at AED 33-52 and EdFlik at AED 45-65. Tuition-centre group classes typically AED 60-150 per student per hour. Qualified online subject tutors AED 150-300, with Unitors publishing IGCSE from AED 150. IGCSE, IB and A Level specialists AED 200-450 and above, with TutorChase at AED 270 and Bestimate putting the band at AED 200-450 plus. In-home one-to-one AED 180-500 including travel. Premium named tutors AED 500-650 and above, with BartyED publishing AED 650.

Two cautions at the top end. A premium rate is evidence of scarcity rather than of outcome, and any claimed examiner status should be treated as a claim until it is evidenced. Examiner status also gives nobody access to marking, boundaries or paper content, whatever is implied. We do not describe our own tutors as examiners, because current examiner status is not something we can demonstrate to you.

Every figure belongs to the provider named beside it and was read from their own published page in October 2026. None is an IB Gram price. We quote after a diagnostic and a free trial, because board, tier, year group and weeks remaining all change the answer, and a number quoted before those are known is not a quote.

Tutoring cost in context for a Town Square household

Tutoring is the discretionary line in an education budget that already has several non-discretionary ones, and seeing it in that context changes how it gets spent. KHDA confirmed on 22 May 2026 that private school fees in Dubai would not increase for the 2026-27 academic year, under the emirate's second economic incentives package valued at AED 1.5 billion within a AED 2.5 billion total. So the fixed line is flat this year, which is a reason to spend the discretionary line deliberately rather than reactively.

The Dubai market is also expanding rather than contracting. KHDA reported 387,441 pupils across 227 private schools in 2024-25 offering seventeen curricula, with UK curriculum at 37% of enrolment, and the emirate is adding seven new private schools for 2026-27 — four UK curriculum and three International Baccalaureate — creating 16,846 new places, after six schools opened during 2025-26 and enrolment rose 6%. A growing UK-curriculum cohort is why this market has so many general tutors advertising into it.

The practical question for a household is not what an hour costs but what a decision costs across two years. A fixed-scope block in Year 9 at published mid-band rates runs to perhaps AED 1,500-3,000 for six to ten sessions. A weekly session across Year 10 runs to roughly AED 6,000-12,000 at the mid band. A Year 11 specialist intensive across two subjects for five months can reach a similar total on its own, from a worse starting position.

The table below sets those out as indicative totals built from the published market bands rather than from our prices. They are not quotes. The purpose is the last column, which is the thing an hourly rate cannot tell you.

Four ways Town Square families waste money on IGCSE tutoring

  • Budget generalist plus exam-year student: cheap per hour, nil per outcome
  • Wrong board: invisible until the paper arrives, costs a term
  • Travel premium bought for its own sake rather than for presence
  • Five subjects at once in February, so none of them gets enough attention

These are the patterns we see most often when a family arrives after a year of paying somebody else, and each has a question that would have prevented it.

First, a budget generalist handed an exam-year student. At AED 33-65 an hour a capable graduate genuinely helps a Year 8 with homework. Put the same person in front of a Year 11 entered for Extended tier and they will teach plausible material that is not the specification, agreeably, for a term, with no change in paper performance. The low hourly rate is precisely what stops anyone examining the total. The preventing question: which specification do you teach, and at which tier?

Second, the wrong board. Cambridge 0580 and Pearson 4MA1, or 0625 and 4PH1, set different papers with different tiering and practical routes. A term of the wrong board's past papers trains the wrong instincts about what a question wants, and it is invisible until the real paper arrives. One email to the school office prevents it.

Third, paying the travel premium for proximity when proximity was not the problem. In-home visits are published at AED 180-500 an hour including travel, and from Al Qudra Road a real share is driving. For a younger child who needs presence, that is money well spent. For a Year 11 working past papers it buys a journey. Fourth, buying five subjects in February when two could move and three could not — spending the specialist exam-year rate across a load that dilutes every session and exhausts the student.

05

The tier decision changes the value of every dirham

  • Core and Foundation tiers cap below the top grades, whatever the tutoring
  • The tier window is live through Year 10 and closed once entries are confirmed
  • Check the tier against the intended post-16 route, not against current comfort
  • Establish tier per subject before agreeing any rate

No amount of tutoring lifts a student above the ceiling of the tier they are entered for, which makes tier the first thing to establish and the thing parents are least often told clearly. Cambridge offers many subjects in Core and Extended versions; Pearson runs Foundation and Higher tiers. Core and Foundation cover a reduced syllabus and cap below the top grades.

Spending in the wrong direction is easy here, and invisible on an invoice. A family paying specialist rates for a child on Core, aiming at a grade the Core paper cannot award, is buying something that cannot be delivered. A family paying budget rates for a child on Extended who needs the full syllabus covered is buying something too thin to work.

The decision is usually taken by the department during Year 10 on class performance and is often reversible for a while. That window is where tutoring has its maximum financial leverage, because moving tier opens grades no amount of later practice can reach. Once the centre confirms entries, months before the papers, the question is closed and the money can only buy technique.

So the sequence that spends well is: establish the tier per subject, check it against the post-16 route your child actually wants, change it in Year 10 if there is a mismatch, and only then buy teaching. Reversing that order is how a family spends a year of fees inside a ceiling nobody mentioned.

06

Why the thing that tells you most is free

  • One full lesson with the tutor who would continue, not a sample or a sales call
  • No card required and no obligation to proceed
  • The diagnostic comes first, on the correct board at the correct tier
  • Any condition attached to a free offer should appear beside the word

The trial lesson is one full lesson with the specialist who would actually continue, with no card required and no obligation. It is not taught by a salesperson and it is not a shortened sample.

It is free because explanation style decides whether the money works, and nothing written down predicts it. A tutor with exactly the right specification knowledge and the wrong pace for your child produces a term of pleasant sessions and no movement — and you cannot tell which you have hired from a profile, a qualification list or a phone call. One hour tells you. Charging for that hour would mean families commit on worse information, which is bad for them and, over time, bad for us.

The diagnostic sits before it. The student works through real questions from the correct board at the correct tier while a specialist watches. That is where the genuine gap appears, and it is usually narrower than the school report implies: method not written down, a command term misread, one topic missed during a move between schools.

Being precise about the word free matters, because it is misused in this market. Ours means one full lesson, with the proposed tutor, no card, no obligation to continue, and no condition attached. Where any provider attaches a condition to something described as free — a minimum block, a card on file, an eligibility rule — that condition should appear on the same screen as the word, and frequently it does not.

07

Is the tutor you are paying permitted to teach in the UAE?

This belongs in a cost discussion because it is a risk you are carrying without being told. Private tuition in the UAE requires a permit, introduced by Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023 Regarding the Introduction of Private Tuition Work Permits and issued by the Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation. MoHRE's own service is Issuance of a New Work Permit — Private Tutor Licensing, applied for through its smart app, website or e-services, with a stated two-working-day completion time.

The permit is granted free of charge for two years. That matters commercially: because it costs the tutor nothing and takes two working days, there is no price reason for anybody to lack one, and a tutor who cannot produce it has made a choice rather than faced an obstacle. Eligibility is wide — teachers registered in government or private schools, employees in the government and private sectors, unemployed individuals, school students aged 15 to 18, and university students.

MoHRE states that individuals offering private tutoring without a permit are subject to fines and penalties outlined in the applicable laws. No fine schedule is published, and Khaleej Times reported that the ministry did not specify the amounts or detail the penalties, so any specific figure circulating informally should be disregarded. We are not going to repeat an unverified number on a page a parent might act on.

The permit's code of conduct also bars serving students affiliated with the tutor's own school, as do Abu Dhabi's ADEK professional-ethics rules for school staff there according to press reporting. Separately, an organisation operating tutoring from premises in Dubai needs a KHDA Educational Services Permit for a training institute, with annual renewal requested at least thirty days before expiry. IB Gram holds no KHDA, ADEK, SPEA, MoE, MoHRE, Cambridge or Pearson approval, accreditation or partnership, claims none, and has no UAE office or centre.

08

What we will not sell you

  • No grade, tier or improvement guarantees
  • No statistics without n, date and method — so none published
  • No past papers or mark schemes sold or hosted; official sources linked
  • No UAE home visits at any price; the smallest effective purchase proposed

No guarantee of a grade, a tier change or an improvement. In a market where several ranking pages do offer guarantees, declining is information rather than modesty, and any guarantee worth the word would need published refund terms honoured on the same page.

No statistics without a sample size, a date and a method, which in practice means none at all. No average grades achieved by students we have taught, no percentage improved, no satisfaction score, no self-generated star rating. Competitors publish figures like 4.9 from several hundred reviews, occasionally in two conflicting versions on the same page, and none states how the number was produced. Self-asserted review markup is also against Google's structured-data policy.

No awarding-body material as downloads. Past papers, mark schemes, syllabus documents and grade-boundary tables belong to Cambridge and Pearson; we cite and link them rather than hosting them, and you should ask why any provider charging a materials fee is supplying them. No description of tutors as examiners either, because current examiner status is not something we can evidence.

And no home visits anywhere in the UAE at any price, because there is no UAE visiting service to buy. What we will sell you is the smallest thing that solves the problem — if the diagnostic shows eight sessions on one topic, that is what we propose, even though a weekly arrangement running to the series would be worth considerably more to us. The scope goes in writing before the first session, and the review at the end is an honest review rather than a renewal conversation wearing a review as a costume.

Where we tutor

Town Square and the communities on this stretch

Location changes the cost of in-home tutoring and almost nothing else, which is itself worth knowing. These are the neighbourhoods around Town Square.

Town Square

A Nshama community off Al Qudra Road, mostly apartments and townhouses with a young population. Far enough out that any in-home quote carries a large driving component, itemised or not.

Mudon

The nearest Dubai Properties community, similarly weighted to primary and lower secondary. The best-value place on this corridor to buy help, because fixing a gap at thirteen costs a fraction of repairing it at sixteen.

Remraam

Apartment community served by South View School, with the shortest school run here. Budgets weigh the in-home travel premium carefully, which is the right way to weigh it.

Serena

A quiet townhouse community on the same stretch. Same geography, same scarcity of board-specific tutors, and the same in-home quotes as Town Square for the same reason.

Arabian Ranches 3

Nearest established community towards Emirates Road, sharing the school pool. Slightly shorter runs produce slightly lower in-home quotes, which tells you what the difference pays for.

DAMAC Hills 2

Further along the Al Qudra corridor and villa-weighted. In-home quotes into both communities are comparable, because the drive rather than the housing is what sets them.

The Sustainable City

Home to Fairgreen International School. A short run from Town Square and the nearest IB continuum provision for many families on this stretch.

How matching works

From first enquiry to a tutor who fits

  1. 01

Send the year group, the board and the tier

Cambridge 0580 Core or Extended, Pearson 4MA1 Foundation or Higher, and the same per subject for the sciences. One email to the school office returns all of it. A rate quoted before these are known is a guess, and a tutor matched before they are known is a coin toss.

  2. 02

    Diagnostic on the correct paper

The student works real questions from the specification and tier they are actually entered for, while a specialist watches. This is where the gap appears, and it is usually narrower than the report implies — method not shown, a command term misread, one topic missed.

  3. 03

We propose the smallest thing that works

Sometimes eight sessions on one topic. Sometimes a weekly slot through Year 10. Occasionally a Year 11 intensive. We quote after the diagnostic, and if the remaining time does not justify the spend we will say that instead of selling a block.

  4. 04

Free trial lesson with that tutor

One full lesson with the specialist who would continue, no card and no obligation. If the explanation style does not suit your child, nothing has been spent and we propose somebody else. This hour tells you more than any profile or phone call.

  5. 05

Review against the specification, then stop

Progress reported against specification objectives rather than impressions, and a fixed-scope block ends when the scope is covered. No automatic rollover, because an arrangement that continues by default is the quietest way a household overspends on tutoring.

Why families choose us

What UAE parents tell us matters most

Every figure attributed and dated

Three of six ranking competitors publish no price at all and two quote US dollars. Every AED band here names the provider that published it and the month it was read, so you can check any of them, and none is an IB Gram rate.

The extras listed before you commit

Per hour or per lesson, single-session price, minimum commitment, cancellation terms, travel surcharge, diagnostic and report fees, materials, VAT. Seven questions that change the real monthly total and that almost nobody volunteers answers to.

Tier before teaching

Core and Foundation tiers cap below the top grades, so specialist rates inside a capped entry buy something undeliverable. We establish the tier per subject first and raise a mismatch while Year 10 still makes it fixable.

The smallest effective purchase

If the diagnostic shows one topic missing, we propose eight sessions and stop, with the scope written down and no automatic rollover, even though a weekly arrangement to the series would be worth more to us.

Free means one full lesson, no conditions

With the specialist who would continue, no card required, no obligation. Where a provider attaches a condition to something described as free, that condition should appear on the same screen as the word.

No guarantees and no decorative numbers

No promised grade, no improvement percentage, no self-generated rating, no claimed regulator approval, no hosted past papers, no UAE home visits. What you get is a diagnostic verdict that sometimes says the time is too short.

Questions parents ask

IB and IGCSE tutoring in Town Square: your questions answered

How much does an IGCSE tutor cost for a Town Square family?+

The published Dubai spread, read in October 2026, runs from AED 33-65 an hour at the budget end (Tutopiya AED 33-52, EdFlik AED 45-65), through AED 150-300 for a qualified online subject tutor (Unitors publishes IGCSE from AED 150), to AED 200-450 and above for a specialist (TutorChase AED 270, Bestimate AED 200-450+), with BartyED at AED 650 premium. In-home visits run AED 180-500 including travel. Those belong to the providers named, not to us. We quote after a diagnostic, because board, tier and year group change the answer.

What extras get added to a tutoring quote in Dubai?+

Seven things worth asking about before you agree anything. Whether the figure is per hour or per lesson and how long a lesson is. The single-session price with no block. What happens if you stop after one. The cancellation and reschedule policy, which matters with a long school run. Any travel surcharge into outer Dubailand. Whether diagnostics, reports or materials are charged separately. And whether the quoted figure includes VAT — nobody should state the UAE treatment as fact without a Federal Tax Authority citation, so ask about their own price.

Should a provider charge a materials fee for past papers?+

It should prompt a question. Past papers, mark schemes, syllabus documents and grade-boundary tables are the awarding bodies' copyright, and reproducing or selling them is infringement; for unreleased material there is a malpractice exposure too. We do not host or supply them — we cite the official source and teach from it. If a provider is charging you for awarding-body material, ask what exactly is being supplied and under what licence, because the value was never in owning the paper.

What should we budget monthly for IGCSE help in Year 11?+

Bestimate's Dubai research puts specialist exam-year support at AED 1,000-2,000 or more a month for one weekly hour, with mid-tier at AED 600-1,200 and budget at AED 240-600. In practice Year 11 families often buy two or three sessions a week in the final term, which multiplies that figure, and frequently across more than one subject. Advertised packages include around AED 799 a month for eight online sessions and AED 1,599-1,799 for four in-home two-hour visits. Buying the same total earlier across Year 10 generally costs less.

Is a cheap tutor ever good value for a Year 11 student?+

Rarely, and it is the most common expensive mistake in this market. At AED 33-65 an hour a capable graduate genuinely helps a Year 8 with homework and keeps them company through it. Handed a Year 11 entered for Extended or Higher tier, the same person teaches plausible material that is not the specification, agreeably, for a term, and the paper performance does not move. The low hourly rate makes the total feel small, which is exactly why nobody examines it until results day.

Does the in-home premium buy anything useful in Town Square?+

It buys physical presence, which is genuinely valuable for a younger or less self-managing child — somebody to take a phone off the table and notice attention going. For a Year 11 working through correct-board past papers it buys a drive down Al Qudra Road. In-home rates are published at AED 180-500 an hour including travel, and from this community a real share of that is the journey. There is also the apartment problem: in most Town Square homes the only available venue is the dining table.

When is IGCSE tutoring cheapest to buy?+

Year 9, which is when almost nobody buys it. A fixed-scope block of six to ten sessions on written explanation or algebraic fluency costs perhaps AED 1,500-3,000 at published mid-band rates and addresses the layer struggling Year 11 students usually turn out to need. It feels unnecessary because nothing is examined yet. Year 10 is next best, at roughly AED 6,000-12,000 across the year for a weekly mid-band session, and it arrives in Year 11 with content secure and the tier chosen deliberately rather than by default.

Can tutoring lift my child above their tier's grade ceiling?+

No. Cambridge Core and Pearson Foundation tiers cover a reduced syllabus and cap below the top grades, so no amount of teaching inside that entry produces an uncapped grade. This is why tier is the first thing to establish and why paying specialist rates inside a capped tier buys something undeliverable. The decision is usually taken by the department during Year 10 and is often reversible for a while, which is where tutoring has its maximum financial leverage. Once the centre confirms entries, the question is closed.

How much does practising the wrong exam board cost?+

A term, usually, and it is invisible until the real paper arrives. Cambridge 0580 and Pearson 4MA1, or 0625 and 4PH1, are different specifications with different tiering, paper structures and practical routes, and past papers are not interchangeable. A tutor drilling the wrong board teaches correct material while training the wrong instincts about what a question wants and how much to write. The preventing step is free: one email to the school office asking for the board and syllabus code per subject.

Are Dubai school fees going up, and does that affect tutoring budgets?+

KHDA confirmed on 22 May 2026 that there would be no increase in private school fees in Dubai for the 2026-27 academic year, under the emirate's second economic incentives package valued at AED 1.5 billion within a AED 2.5 billion total. For a household budget that means the fixed line is flat this year while tutoring remains entirely discretionary. The practical implication is to spend the discretionary line deliberately — a fixed-scope block with a written endpoint rather than an open-ended weekly arrangement that renews by default.

How many subjects should we actually pay for?+

Fewer than most Year 11 families start with. Three sessions a week across five subjects produces shallow coverage of all of them and a student too tired to use any. We would rather diagnose, name the two or three subjects where a grade can realistically move in the time available, concentrate there, and say plainly that the rest are better served by a November entry or the student's own revision. That conversation is unpopular, it costs us revenue, and it is the honest one.

Why is the trial lesson free and what is the condition?+

There is no condition: one full lesson with the specialist who would actually continue, no card required, no obligation. It is free because explanation style decides whether the money works and nothing written down predicts it — a tutor with the right specification knowledge and the wrong pace produces a pleasant term and no movement. Charging for the hour would mean families commit on worse information. If something elsewhere is described as free, check whether its conditions appear on the same screen as the word.

Does a higher hourly rate mean a better IGCSE tutor?+

Not reliably. The published Dubai top end is AED 500-650 and above, with BartyED at AED 650, and a premium rate reflects scarcity and reputation rather than demonstrated outcomes. Treat any claimed examiner status as a claim until it is evidenced, and note that examiner status gives nobody access to marking, boundaries or paper content whatever is implied. We do not describe our own tutors as examiners, because current examiner status is not something we can demonstrate. Specification knowledge plus the right pace is what you are paying for.

Do we have to keep paying once the gap closes?+

No, and we will tell you when it has. A fixed-scope block ends when the agreed topic list is covered, with a review and a deliberate stop rather than an automatic rollover into open-ended tutoring. An arrangement that continues by default is the quietest way a household overspends, and it is easy for any provider to let happen. If you want to continue weekly afterwards, that should be a decision you make rather than a drift you notice six months later.

Does the tutor need a permit, and does that cost us anything?+

A permit is required and costs the tutor nothing, so there is no price reason for anybody to lack one. The MoHRE private tuition work permit was introduced by Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023 and is granted free of charge for two years, with MoHRE listing a two-working-day completion time through its smart app, website or e-services. Eligibility covers school and sector employees, unemployed residents, university students and students aged 15 to 18. Ask to see it. MoHRE states tutoring without one attracts fines and penalties; no amounts are published.

Know the board, the tier and the total before you pay

Hiring an IGCSE home tutor in Town Square sensibly takes three facts and one hour. The facts: which board and syllabus code, which tier, and which year group. The hour: a free trial lesson with the specialist who would continue, after a diagnostic on the correct board's paper. Ask the seven questions about extras before agreeing any rate, from anybody. We will then propose the smallest thing that solves the problem and quote it, or tell you the remaining time does not justify the spend. One-to-one over live video on Gulf Standard Time, with no home visits anywhere in the UAE.
