IB Maths Tutor in Town Square

Finding an IB maths tutor in Town Square is partly about the course and largely about the clock. Your child leaves Al Qudra Road early, finishes somewhere in Motor City or the city centre, and gets home after half four with calculus to follow. IB Gram places a specialist in the hour your child can still think in, one-to-one over live video on Gulf Standard Time.

  • Session times set from your school's actual finish time
  • Matched to AA or AI, at HL or SL, before anybody is proposed
  • One-to-one live video; no home visits anywhere in the UAE
  • Free trial lesson in the slot you intend to keep

IB & IGCSE in Town Square

When can a maths session actually happen in a Town Square week?

Maths is the subject families book at the wrong hour more often than any other, because it is the one they worry about most and so they take whatever slot is offered. That is a worse mistake in maths than elsewhere. A tired student can read a history chapter and retain something. A tired student cannot follow a calculus derivation, cannot hold three variables in mind while rearranging an expression, and cannot concentrate through the twenty minutes of silent working that a past-paper question actually requires.

The Town Square timetable makes the point sharply. Town Square is a Nshama community off Al Qudra Road, and the schools running IB Diploma maths are not next door — most Diploma students here travel to Motor City, Dubai Sports City, or further into Al Barsha and Silicon Oasis. A school day ending at half three becomes a 4:45pm arrival home once the afternoon traffic is counted, and from an inner-city school it is closer to five.

Now add a tutor who must drive to you. They are leaving another part of Dubai in the same traffic, so a six o'clock start is optimistic and half six is realistic. The session then runs to eight, with a student who has been awake and working for thirteen hours, on the single most attention-expensive subject in their timetable. The arrangement is not failing because the tutor is weak. It is failing because the hour is wrong, and in a community this far out the hour is the scarce resource.

IB Gram removes travel from both ends. Lessons are one-to-one over live video on Gulf Standard Time, and we make no home visits anywhere in the UAE — in-home tutoring is a service we run in India only. A session can therefore start at 4:45pm for a Year 12 student, or at 8pm for a Year 13 student who works late anyway and is sharpest once the house is quiet. Both are better hours than any visiting arrangement can offer from Al Qudra Road.

The second thing to establish before anything else is which course your child sits. The IB runs two mathematics courses at two levels: Analysis and Approaches, the algebraic and proof-oriented route, and Applications and Interpretation, the modelling and statistics route, each at Higher and Standard Level. They are not harder and easier versions of one thing. A tutor matched to the wrong one teaches correct mathematics in proportions the paper will not reward.

The rest of this page is built from those two facts: the four windows in a Town Square week and what each supports, the Diploma maths year term by term so you can see when help is worth most, and the published AED rates with every figure attributed.

IB programmes

Every IB programme stage, mapped to UAE school years

The right hour and the right help both change with the stage. These are the IB maths stages we cover for Town Square families.

PYPAges 3-12 · Foundation to Year 6

Primary Years Programme mathematics

Mathematics inside units of inquiry, assessed continuously by the class teacher. Number sense, pattern, measurement and the ability to explain a method in words are the real outputs, and a child who can compute but not explain looks weaker here than their arithmetic warrants.

Primary children on a long Town Square school run are tired by four o'clock, and a session after five is usually wasted money whatever the subject. For this age group the workable options are immediately off the run or a weekend morning, and we would rather say that than sell an evening slot destined to fail.

MYPAges 11-16 · Years 7-11

Middle Years Programme mathematics

Four criteria on a 0-8 scale: knowing and understanding, investigating patterns, communicating, and applying mathematics in real-life contexts. Criterion B rewards generalising from a pattern and justifying it, which no traditional maths lesson drills, and criterion C marks the quality of communication rather than the answer.

MYP students sustain a 5pm or 5:30pm session comfortably, which is the band most Town Square families settle into. The criterion profile is also the best available signal about the eventual AA or AI choice, and almost nobody reads it that way.

DPAges 16-19 · Years 12-13

Diploma Programme mathematics

Analysis and Approaches emphasises algebraic methods, proof and calculus; Applications and Interpretation emphasises modelling, statistics and the use of technology. Both carry an Exploration worth 20% of the grade, and Higher Level adds a third written paper plus substantially more content in both courses.

Diploma students are the group that can genuinely use an 8pm slot and often prefer it. They are also the group for whom a visiting tutor's half six arrival does the most damage, because early evening is their most productive independent hour and it gets spent waiting at the window.

BridgeAges 15-16 · Year 11 into Year 12

The IGCSE or MYP to Diploma maths bridge

The largest step in IB mathematics. A student arriving from IGCSE Extended or MYP maths into Analysis and Approaches Higher Level meets a jump in algebraic demand, abstraction and pace inside the first term. Comfortable at sixteen does not predict comfortable in November of Year 12.

The best-value intervention in the whole sequence, and the one with the least urgency attached to it. A short summer block on algebraic fluency, functions and trigonometric identities costs a fraction of the Year 13 rescue it prevents, and the summer is also the only period when a Town Square week has spare hours in it.

Subject coverage

IB and IGCSE subjects we tutor

The IB mathematics routes and components Town Square students need, with the specific place marks go in each. Availability varies by level and term and is confirmed at the trial lesson.

Mathematics: Analysis and Approaches HL

Higher Level

The most demanding IB maths route. Proof by induction and contradiction, complex numbers, vectors and calculus well beyond Standard Level, plus a third paper rewarding sustained reasoning. Small algebraic weaknesses surface within a term rather than a year.

Mathematics: Analysis and Approaches SL

Standard Level

Algebra, functions, trigonometry, calculus and probability without the HL extensions. Marks go on calculus application questions and on the unstructured parts of the calculator paper where nothing indicates which technique is wanted.

Mathematics: Applications and Interpretation HL

Higher Level

Modelling and statistics taken seriously, plus matrices, graph theory and complex numbers — genuinely surprising to anyone who chose AI expecting less abstraction. The third paper demands extended modelling with technology.

Mathematics: Applications and Interpretation SL

Standard Level

Modelling, descriptive and inferential statistics, financial mathematics and fluent calculator use. The usual failure is choosing it as the lighter option and meeting regression and hypothesis testing with no statistical language to think in.

The Exploration

HL and SL, both courses

Worth 20% of the final grade in every IB maths course, assessed on presentation, mathematical communication, personal engagement, reflection and the use of mathematics. Difficulty is not on that list, which catches strong students out.

Calculus

HL and SL, mainly AA

Differentiation and integration techniques, kinematics, related rates and at HL differential equations. Students can usually differentiate and struggle to recognise which technique a worded problem calls for, which is pattern recognition rather than knowledge.

Statistics and probability

HL and SL, mainly AI

Distributions, correlation, regression and hypothesis testing. Marks sit in interpretation: a student who produces a p-value and cannot say what it means about the claim loses most of the credit available on the question.

Proof and algebraic technique

AA HL and SL

Induction, contradiction, manipulation of rational and surd expressions, binomial expansion and identities. The foundation layer, and where almost every struggling Year 13 AA student actually needs work rather than in the topic they name.

Graphical calculator technique

All routes, especially AI

Both courses assume fluent use of the permitted technology, and marks are lost daily on avoidable things: wrong window settings, not stating the model fitted, or working by hand what the calculator was provided for.

MYP mathematics criteria work

Years 7-11

Criterion-by-criterion support against knowing and understanding, investigating patterns, communicating, and applying mathematics in real-life contexts. The only honest preparation for either Diploma route, and a useful signal about which one.

IGCSE and Additional Mathematics bridging

Year 11 into Year 12

A short targeted block on the algebra, functions and trigonometry that Analysis and Approaches assumes and IGCSE does not fully build. Cambridge Additional Mathematics 0606 covers some of it; students who skipped it arrive with a visible gap.

How sessions run

Tutoring formats built around UAE school timetables

Three maths arrangements that fit a Town Square week, all online over live video. The choice is mostly about which hour your child can still think in.

Straight off the school run

A 4:45pm start, before the evening collapses into homework and fatigue. This slot exists only because nobody is driving to you, and it suits MYP students and Year 12 Diploma students best. Sixty minutes is usually the right length, and the rest of the evening stays intact for independent practice.

  • Starts within fifteen minutes of your child reaching home
  • Sixty minutes, which is the right length for new teaching
  • Suits MYP and Year 12 students who fade after eight
  • Leaves independent practice time afterwards rather than before

Late evening Diploma block

An 8pm or 8:30pm ninety-minute slot for Year 12 and 13 students who work late anyway and are sharpest once the house is quiet. Long enough to work a full past-paper section and mark it together, which a sixty-minute slot cannot do without rushing the part that matters.

  • Ninety minutes, once or twice a week
  • Built around full paper sections with live marking
  • Works alongside Exploration and other coursework deadlines
  • Avoids competing with the student's productive early evening

Weekend morning block

Friday or Saturday mornings, two to three hours. Maths rewards sustained work on one thread more than most subjects, so a single long block is worth more than three scattered weekday hours — particularly during an Exploration term or the run-up to mocks.

  • Two to three hours in one sitting
  • Best for Exploration work and timed practice
  • Keeps weekday evenings free in a heavy coursework term
  • The honest answer for households running several school runs

What IB and IGCSE study actually looks like in Town Square

01

Four windows in a Town Square week, and what maths each supports

Scheduling ends more tutoring arrangements than teaching does. A family agrees a time that works in September, then football moves to Tuesdays, an Exploration deadline lands in November, and by February the sessions have stopped without anybody deciding to stop them. Choosing the window properly at the start is worth more than any amount of rescue later.

There are four candidate windows out here. Straight off the school run, 4:30pm to 5:30pm, which only exists if nobody is travelling to you. After dinner from seven, which competes directly with the student's own best independent working hour. Late, from eight, which Diploma students use well and younger students cannot. And weekend mornings, which are the most reliable and the least booked.

For maths specifically the ranking is clearer than for other subjects, because the subject's demands differ by task. New teaching — a technique the student has not met, a derivation, a proof method — needs the alert window and should go early. Consolidation and worked practice tolerate the later slot. Exploration work wants a long uninterrupted block, which in practice means a weekend. Timed past-paper practice with marking wants ninety minutes, which rules out the sixty-minute after-dinner slot.

Decide it with your child in the room, because they know which hour they can think in better than either of us does. Then protect it, and plan the Ramadan change deliberately rather than discovering it: shortened school days, evenings reorganised around Iftar, and a shift to a late-morning, early-afternoon or post-Iftar slot, or a deliberate pause with a heavier block afterwards.

The Diploma maths year, term by term

Knowing when help is worth most is as useful as knowing what kind of help it is, and for maths the answer is weighted heavily towards the start. Everything in the course sits on algebraic fluency, the Exploration is finished long before exam revision begins, and paper technique is the only lever still available in the final term.

Term by term, it runs roughly like this. End of Year 11: course and level chosen, against the intended degree rather than against current comfort. First term of Year 12: new content begins and any algebraic weakness is exposed — this is the cheapest and most effective point to intervene. Second and third terms of Year 12: content builds, and the Exploration topic should be chosen in this window while it can still be a good topic rather than an available one.

First term of Year 13: remaining content, Exploration drafted and finished to the school's internal deadline, then mocks. Second term: paper technique, including dedicated work on the third paper for Higher Level candidates, which most schools reach late because practice naturally concentrates on the papers both levels sit. Then the May session.

One honesty note that belongs in any calendar section. The IB's own site blocks automated retrieval, so no IB exam or results date in this project has been confirmed from ibo.org. We name the May session as the one UAE schools sit and publish no specific date; get those from your school's IB coordinator or ibo.org. Cambridge and Pearson dates are published and we use them: Cambridge runs June and November series with the February/March series offered to India only, and Pearson Edexcel International GCSE runs May/June and November.

03

Which course is your child on, and why it decides the match

  • Four routes: AA HL, AA SL, AI HL, AI SL — the school confirms in one email
  • AA is algebraic and proof-led; AI is modelling and statistics-led
  • AI is not the easy option; AI HL contains matrices and graph theory
  • Check published degree requirements before the Year 11 choice is confirmed

Before any scheduling matters, establish the route. The IB runs Mathematics: Analysis and Approaches and Mathematics: Applications and Interpretation, each at Higher and Standard Level. Four possibilities, and plenty of Town Square parents do not know which one is on the timetable.

Analysis and Approaches is the algebraic route: proof, functions, calculus, and at Higher Level proof by induction and contradiction, complex numbers and vectors. It rewards a student comfortable manipulating symbols and following an argument. Applications and Interpretation is the modelling route: statistics, regression, financial mathematics, and at Higher Level matrices and graph theory. It rewards a student who likes real data and uses technology confidently.

The pitfall is treating AI as the easy option. It is not easier, it is different. AI Standard Level students who chose it to avoid difficulty regularly meet hypothesis testing and regression with no statistical vocabulary and find it harder than the algebra they were avoiding. AI Higher Level contains matrices, graph theory and complex numbers, which genuinely surprises people who picked it expecting less abstraction.

The university question should be resolved first. Some mathematics, physics and engineering degrees specify Analysis and Approaches, and many specify Higher Level in a mathematics subject. Check the published entry requirements of the actual institutions under consideration, including UAE universities, for the year of entry rather than the current one. Reversing the choice after a term of Year 12 is painful where it is possible at all, and a tutor matched to the wrong route will teach correct mathematics the paper does not reward.

04

Where the marks actually go in IB maths

  • Non-calculator paper: arithmetic slips and manipulation left incomplete
  • Calculator paper: no stated method or model, so reasoning marks go unclaimed
  • HL third paper: questions abandoned after one hard part
  • Everywhere: notation and unshown working, the cheapest marks to recover

Students revise topics; examiners mark papers. Organising the work around the second is what separates a student who knows mathematics from one who scores it, and the loss patterns are consistent enough to plan against.

On the non-calculator paper, arithmetic slips and algebraic manipulation abandoned halfway. On the calculator paper, answers given with no stated method or model, so the reasoning marks are unavailable even when the number is right. On the Higher Level third paper, whole questions abandoned after one unfamiliar part when the later parts were accessible. And across every component, notation: a symbol used without definition, a line of working with no equals sign, an answer quoted to a precision the question never asked for.

The most expensive habit is stopping too early. Marks are available for method, and a student who computes several steps mentally and writes one line forfeits credit they genuinely earned. Changing that is a behaviour change rather than a knowledge gain, takes a few weeks of marked practice with a rule that every step goes on paper, and is probably the cheapest grade movement available in the subject.

The Exploration is the other large recoverable block, at 20% of the grade in every route. It is assessed on presentation, mathematical communication, personal engagement, reflection and the use of mathematics — and difficulty is not on that list. A student who takes a topic they genuinely care about and handles it with mathematics appropriate to their course outscores one who attempts something ambitious, half understands it, and shows no sign of caring.

05

The Exploration, and what coaching may legitimately do

  • Twenty per cent of the grade, and mostly decided at topic choice
  • Personal engagement must be visible in the question, not added at the end
  • Permitted: topic coaching, level checking, criterion explanation, feedback on the student's draft
  • Not permitted: writing, supplying calculations, model Explorations, editing to a finish

A fifth of the maths grade comes from an independent piece of work, and most of what decides the mark happens in the fortnight when the topic is chosen rather than in the writing.

The criteria reward presentation, mathematical communication, personal engagement, reflection and the use of mathematics. Personal engagement is where Town Square students lose most, and it cannot be added at the end — it has to be visible in the choice of question and in how the work is conducted. Reflection is the next biggest loss, written as a summary of steps taken rather than as genuine evaluation of what the mathematics showed and what its limits were.

What a tutor may do is substantial. Help find a topic with real engagement and workable mathematics. Check the mathematical level fits the course rather than the student's ambition. Explain what each criterion asks for and what it is worth. Read a draft the student has written and point out that notation is inconsistent, that the reflection is a summary, or that a step does not follow.

What a tutor may not do is produce the work: not write a section, not supply the calculations the student transcribes, not provide a model Exploration to adapt, not edit a draft to a finish so the submitted piece is substantially theirs. The student signs an authorship declaration and the supervisor signs alongside, and the IB withdraws awards for malpractice. This search result contains operators selling completed Internal Assessments — one advertises them at AED 3,750 — which risks the entire Diploma rather than one component. We also host no IB past papers, mark schemes or subject guides as downloads; they belong to the IB and we link the official source.

What IB maths tutoring costs in this market

Published Dubai rates, read from provider pages in October 2026. Budget online tutoring from AED 33-65 an hour, with Tutopiya at AED 33-52 and EdFlik at AED 45-65. Qualified online subject tutors AED 150-300, with Unitors publishing IB from AED 200. IB, IGCSE and A Level specialists AED 200-450 and above, with TutorChase at AED 270 and Bestimate putting the band at AED 200-450 plus. In-home visits AED 180-500 including travel. BartyED publishes AED 650 at the premium end.

The scheduling argument has a price dimension worth making explicit. An in-home arrangement from Town Square costs more per hour and buys a worse hour, because the tutor's drive pushes the start past six. So the premium is paying for a journey that also degrades the product. For a young child who needs physical presence that trade can still be worth making. For a Diploma maths student it rarely is.

Monthly, Bestimate estimates AED 240-600 for one weekly hour at the budget band, AED 600-1,200 mid-tier and AED 1,000-2,000 or more for specialist exam-year work. Advertised packages include around AED 799 a month for eight online sessions and AED 1,599-1,799 for four in-home two-hour visits.

Each figure belongs to the provider named beside it. None is an IB Gram price — we publish no rate card on these pages, because the honest number depends on route, level and weeks remaining. Take the free trial lesson and get a quote after the diagnostic.

Ramadan, prayer times and the UAE school calendar

  • Ramadan needs a late-morning, early-afternoon or post-Iftar slot
  • Content shifts to consolidation rather than new technique that month
  • Prayer times built into the slot from the start, not raised later
  • Sessions continue while travelling, since no travel is involved anyway

A maths plan written in September that ignores the UAE academic year will break by February, and maths breaks worse than other subjects because each session builds directly on the last. Continuity is the thing being bought.

Ramadan is the largest change. School days shorten, the evening reorganises around Iftar, and a student comfortable at six o'clock is not. Town Square families typically do one of three things: shift to a late-morning or early-afternoon slot, move to a post-Iftar slot, or pause part of the month and resume with a heavier block afterwards. All three work. Keeping the usual Tuesday at six does not. Content also sensibly shifts towards consolidation rather than new technique for that period.

Prayer times matter year-round and move through the calendar, so we set slots around them from the start rather than waiting for a family to raise it. The same applies to Islamic and public holidays, the long summer, and the travel weekends that are a normal part of life here — sessions continue while a family is away, because the tutor's location is already part of the arrangement rather than an obstacle to it.

The commitment we ask for is small: tell us the new pattern and we reset the fixed slot. What we work to avoid is the drift where a session is cancelled, then rescheduled, then cancelled, until nobody says out loud that the arrangement has ended. In maths that drift costs more than in any other subject, because the thread does not pick up where it was left.

08

What we will not promise about a maths grade

  • No grade, points or improvement guarantees of any kind
  • No statistics without n, date and method — so none published
  • No regulator claims, no UAE office, no unevidenced examiner descriptions
  • We will decline a session time that is too late to be useful for maths

No grade guarantee. Not a specific number, not a points improvement, not a particular paper score. The variables that decide a maths grade — prior algebraic fluency, weeks remaining, whether the Exploration was started early, whether the student has ever been taught to show method — are not all under a tutor's control, and an offer that ignores that is a sales device rather than a commitment.

No statistics without a sample size, a date and a method, which means none published. No average score achieved by students we have taught, no percentage improved, no satisfaction figure, no self-generated star rating. Competitors publish such numbers routinely, sometimes in two conflicting versions on the same page, and almost never say how any of them was produced.

No regulator or awarding-body claim, and no examiner descriptions. IB Gram holds no KHDA, ADEK, SPEA, MoE, MoHRE, IB or Cambridge approval, accreditation, licence or partnership, has no office or centre anywhere in the UAE, and does not describe tutors as IB examiners because current examiner status is not something we can evidence. Examiner status also confers no access to marking, boundaries or paper content whatever is implied.

What we will give you is a verdict after the diagnostic: whether the gap is the algebraic foundation, paper technique or the Exploration, roughly how long each takes to move, and whether the time available is enough. Sometimes the answer is that it is not, and that concentrating on two of those rather than three is the better plan. We will also tell you when a proposed session time will not work for maths, rather than taking the booking.

Where we tutor

Town Square and the drive to its schools

Each community on this corridor sits a slightly different distance from its schools, and that difference decides which part of the evening is usable for maths.

Town Square

A Nshama community off Al Qudra Road. Diploma students travel to Motor City, Sports City or the inner city, so a half three finish usually becomes a 4:45pm arrival and a session no earlier than that.

Mudon

Nearest Dubai Properties community, weighted to Years 7 to 9. Maths enquiries here are MYP criterion work or Year 11 bridging rather than Diploma rescue, and afternoon slots work better than evening ones.

Remraam

Apartment community served by South View School, the shortest run on this stretch. A 4:15pm maths slot is realistic here in a way it is not from Town Square itself.

Serena

A quiet townhouse community on the same corridor, with the same drive and the same absence of local Analysis and Approaches Higher Level specialists.

Arabian Ranches 3

Nearest established community towards Emirates Road. Collection often twenty minutes earlier than Town Square, which genuinely widens the usable evening for a Year 12 student.

DAMAC Hills 2

Further along Al Qudra Road, villa-weighted. The same school destinations and the same evening traffic pattern on Hessa Street and Sheikh Mohammed Bin Zayed Road.

The Sustainable City

Home to Fairgreen International School, which runs the IB continuum. One of the shorter Diploma runs available to a Town Square family.

How matching works

From first enquiry to a tutor who fits

  1. 01

Tell us the course, the level and the door time

Analysis and Approaches or Applications and Interpretation, Higher or Standard, plus the school and what time your child actually reaches home — not the bell time. That number decides which of four windows in a Town Square week we are working with.

  2. 02

    Diagnostic on real past-paper questions

The student works questions at their own level while a specialist watches, including non-calculator work. In maths the gap is usually underneath the named topic: algebraic manipulation rather than calculus, statistical vocabulary rather than regression.

  3. 03

Free trial lesson in the slot you mean to keep

The specialist who would continue teaches a full session at the time you intend to use, so you test the hour as well as the tutor. No card required, no obligation. In maths, explanation pace matters more than in any other subject.

  4. 04

Fix the window and protect it

New teaching early, consolidation later, Exploration work at weekends, timed practice in ninety-minute blocks. Once the time works it stays put, around prayer times and sport, with a planned Ramadan change rather than an improvised one.

  5. 05

Review by paper and by criterion

Every few weeks the tutor reports something checkable: which paper technique is now reliable, whether method is being written down, which Exploration criterion the draft is weak on. If nothing has moved, that is where the plan or the tutor changes.

Why families choose us

What UAE parents tell us matters most

We plan from the time your child gets home

Maths cannot be learned in a tired hour, and from Town Square the difference between a 4:45pm start and a half six one is the difference between a session that works and one that merely happens. No travel either side is why the earlier option exists.

Matched to the route, not to the word maths

AA HL, AA SL, AI HL and AI SL are four different jobs. We establish which before proposing anybody, because a tutor on the wrong route teaches correct mathematics in proportions the paper will not reward.

The right work in the right window

New technique early in the day, consolidation later, Exploration work in a weekend block, timed practice in ninety minutes. Matching the task to the hour is most of what makes a maths arrangement productive rather than merely regular.

We look underneath the named topic

Students name calculus; the diagnostic usually finds algebra. Students name regression; it is usually the absence of statistical vocabulary. Starting from a marked past paper rather than a school report is what makes the first month count.

The Exploration treated as 20% of the grade

We coach topic choice in the second half of Year 12, while a good topic is still possible, and give criterion-level feedback on the student's own draft. The mathematics and the writing stay theirs, and we state that boundary plainly.

AED figures attributed, and no guarantees

Every rate names the provider that published it and the month it was read, and none is an IB Gram price. No promised grade, no improvement percentage, no claimed regulator approval, no hosted past papers, no UAE home visits.

Questions parents ask

IB and IGCSE tutoring in Town Square: your questions answered

What time can a maths session start after the Town Square school run?+

For a short run — South View in Remraam, or Fairgreen in The Sustainable City — around 4:15pm to 4:30pm. From GEMS Metropole in Motor City or Dubai Sports City in peak traffic, 4:45pm. From an inner-city school in Al Barsha or Silicon Oasis, closer to five, and many of those families choose an 8pm slot instead. These times exist only because nobody is driving to you; a visiting tutor leaving another part of Dubai in the same traffic realistically starts at half six.

Why does the hour matter more for maths than for other subjects?+

Because the work is cognitively dense in a particular way. A tired student can read a history chapter and retain something. A tired student cannot follow a derivation, cannot hold three variables in mind while rearranging an expression, and cannot sustain the twenty minutes of silent working a real past-paper question needs. Booking whichever slot is free is therefore a worse decision in maths than elsewhere, and it is the one families most often make because maths is the subject they worry about most.

Which weekly window suits a Year 13 maths student in Town Square?+

Usually 8pm to 9:30pm, and ninety minutes rather than sixty. Year 13 students work late anyway, are sharpest once the house is quiet, and need a block long enough to complete a past-paper section and mark it together rather than rushing the marking, which is the part that teaches. The 4:45pm window suits Year 12 and MYP students better, while attention is fresh enough for new technique. The 7pm slot looks convenient and consumes the student's own most productive independent hour.

How do I find out whether my child takes AA or AI?+

Ask the school, and ask for the level too — the full answer is one of four: Analysis and Approaches Higher or Standard, or Applications and Interpretation Higher or Standard. It is usually on the Year 11 subject choice form and on the Diploma timetable. It matters because the two courses have different syllabuses and different papers, so a tutor matched to the wrong one teaches correct mathematics in proportions the paper will not reward. We will not propose anybody before we know which of the four it is.

When in the Diploma is maths tutoring worth most?+

The first term of Year 12, by a wide margin. Everything in the course sits on algebraic fluency, so securing it early makes every later topic cheaper to teach. The Exploration topic should then be chosen in the second half of Year 12, while a good topic is still possible rather than merely an available one. By the spring of Year 13 the only remaining lever is paper technique, which is worth real marks but is smaller than foundations plus Exploration plus technique together.

Is Applications and Interpretation a lighter choice than Analysis and Approaches?+

No, and choosing it on that basis causes trouble. AI emphasises modelling, statistics, financial mathematics and the use of technology where AA emphasises algebra, proof and calculus. Students who pick AI to avoid difficulty frequently find hypothesis testing and regression harder than the algebra they were avoiding, because they arrive with no statistical vocabulary to think in. AI at Higher Level also contains matrices, graph theory and complex numbers. Choose on what the intended degree expects, verified from the institution's published requirement.

Does the Exploration really count for a fifth of the grade?+

Yes, in every IB maths course at both levels, and it is assessed on presentation, mathematical communication, personal engagement, reflection and the use of mathematics. Difficulty is not on that list, which catches strong students out: an ambitious topic half understood with no visible engagement scores below a modest topic handled correctly by somebody who clearly cared. Because it is finished before exam revision begins, it is also the most recoverable block of marks in the course if addressed in Year 12 rather than Year 13.

How much Exploration help can a Town Square tutor legitimately give?+

A tutor can say that a step does not follow, that notation is inconsistent, or that a conclusion is not supported by the working — feedback on a draft the student has written is permitted and useful. What a tutor may not do is supply the calculations, write a section, provide a model Exploration to adapt, or edit the piece to a finish so it is substantially theirs. The student signs an authorship declaration and the supervisor signs alongside, and the IB withdraws awards for malpractice, so the line is practical.

Will a maths tutor come to our home in Town Square?+

Not one of ours. IB Gram delivers maths tuition to Town Square one-to-one over live video and makes no home visits anywhere in the UAE — in-home tutoring is a service we run in India only. Beyond that, the in-home model is particularly poor value for Diploma maths from this community: published rates are AED 180-500 an hour including travel, and the drive pushes the start past six, so you pay more per hour and buy a worse hour for the subject that tolerates it least.

What do Town Square families pay for IB maths help?+

Published Dubai figures read in October 2026: budget online AED 33-65 an hour (Tutopiya, EdFlik), qualified online subject tutors AED 150-300 with Unitors publishing IB from AED 200, IB specialists AED 200-450 and above with TutorChase at AED 270 and Bestimate giving AED 200-450 plus, in-home visits AED 180-500 including travel, and BartyED at AED 650 premium. Monthly, Bestimate estimates AED 240-600 budget, AED 600-1,200 mid and AED 1,000-2,000 plus for specialist exam-year work. Those belong to the providers named; we quote after the diagnostic.

How do maths sessions change during Ramadan here?+

They move, and planning the move beats improvising it. School days shorten and evenings reorganise around Iftar, so the usual slot stops working. Town Square families typically switch to a late-morning or early-afternoon session, move to post-Iftar, or pause part of the month and resume with a heavier block. Content also shifts sensibly towards consolidation rather than new technique for that period. Tell us the pattern and we reset the fixed slot, because in maths a run of cancellations costs more than in any other subject.

Is there an AA Higher Level specialist living near Town Square?+

Frequently not. The IB is around 7% of Dubai's 387,441 private-school pupils spread across the whole emirate, only the final two years sit the Diploma, and Analysis and Approaches at Higher Level is one route of four. The pool who have taught it to final grade is small citywide, and most are serving school teachers whose permit code of conduct bars tutoring students enrolled at their own school. Town Square is also a newer community where residential build-out outran tutoring supply. Online matching removes distance from the problem.

What should we do in the six weeks before mocks?+

Technique, in order, and nothing else. First the rule that every step goes on paper, because method marks are being forfeited by mental arithmetic. Second, stating the model or method on calculator-paper answers, so reasoning marks become available. Third, past-paper sections in ninety-minute blocks, marked properly rather than discussed, with the error pattern deciding the next session. For Higher Level, dedicated work on the third paper, which most schools reach late. Content gaps larger than a topic or two are not realistically closable in six weeks.

Can one tutor take maths and physics for the same student?+

Often yes, and in this pairing there is a real argument for it: the algebraic and graphical demands overlap heavily, so one specialist can teach the rearrangement layer once rather than twice and stop a student treating the two subjects as unrelated. It also lets one person weigh a Physics investigation deadline against a maths mock instead of two tutors each optimising for their own subject. What we will not do is stretch a tutor across courses they do not genuinely teach to save a second match.

When are IB maths exams for Town Square students?+

UAE schools sit the May session. We publish no specific IB date, and the reason is worth stating: the IB's own site blocks automated checking, so no IB session or results date in this project has been confirmed from ibo.org, and we will not put an unverified date in front of a family who will plan around it. Get exact dates from your school's IB coordinator or ibo.org. For IGCSE siblings, Cambridge runs June and November series — February/March is India-only — and Pearson runs May/June and November.

Start with the course, the level and the door time

An IB maths tutor in Town Square is worth hiring once three things are known: whether your child sits Analysis and Approaches or Applications and Interpretation, at which level, and what time they actually walk through the door. Send those and we will tell you which of the four windows in a Town Square week fits the work you need, propose a specialist who has taught that exact route, diagnose on real past-paper questions, and arrange a free trial lesson in the slot you intend to keep. One-to-one over live video on Gulf Standard Time, with no home visits anywhere in the UAE.
