IB MYP Tutor in Town Square

An IB MYP tutor in Town Square has to fit a child who is younger, tireder and further from school than a Diploma student. Your eleven-year-old has spent fifty minutes in a car and has nothing left by half six. IB Gram plans from the time your child reaches the door, teaching one-to-one over live video on Gulf Standard Time, in the hour that still works.

  • Session times set from your child's age as well as the school run
  • Tutors who have worked with the MYP criteria, not Diploma tutors scaled down
  • One-to-one live video; no home visits anywhere in the UAE
  • We will recommend a weekend morning rather than take a bad hour

IB & IGCSE in Town Square

What hour of a Town Square week does an MYP child actually have?

Everything about MYP tutoring out here begins with one number: what time your child reaches the door. Town Square is a Nshama community off Al Qudra Road, and the schools running the Middle Years Programme are not in it — families travel to The Sustainable City, Motor City, Al Barsha or Silicon Oasis, which means a school day ending at half three becomes a 4:30pm arrival home at best and closer to five from the inner city.

Then age enters the calculation, and this is where MYP differs sharply from Diploma tutoring. A seventeen-year-old can work at half eight in the evening and often prefers it. An eleven-year-old who has been awake since six and spent fifty minutes in a car cannot, and no amount of goodwill from either side changes that. A session booked at half six for a Year 7 student is a session the family pays for and the child does not use.

That makes the window narrow and worth defending. For most MYP students the hour that works is around five o'clock: late enough to have decompressed and eaten something, early enough to still concentrate. MYP 4 and 5 students — Years 10 and 11 — stretch comfortably to six. Below MYP 3 we would rather propose a weekend morning than take a weekday evening, and we say so rather than book it.

A visiting tutor cannot reach that window from Town Square. They leave another part of Dubai in the same afternoon traffic, arriving at half six at the earliest, which is precisely the hour at which a younger MYP child stops absorbing anything. IB Gram delivers one-to-one over live video on Gulf Standard Time and makes no home visits anywhere in the UAE — in-home tutoring is a service we run in India only — so the five o'clock slot exists at all.

The second thing worth knowing is that the MYP is five years and they need different things. MYP 1 to 3 is where criterion-based working becomes a habit or does not. MYP 4 and 5 is where the demand rises and where the Diploma subject choices get decided. And Year 11 adds the Personal Project on top of a full subject load, which is the single most predictable scheduling crunch in the programme.

The IB accounts for around 7% of Dubai's 387,441 private-school pupils across 227 schools, and MYP-specific tutoring is thinner still, because many tutors advertising IB experience mean the Diploma. A Diploma specialist handed an MYP 3 student teaches excellent content against the wrong target, which looks satisfactory for a term and changes nothing on the report.

There is a fifteen-second test for that, and it is the most useful thing on this page: ask a prospective tutor to name the four criteria for the subject group in question. Somebody who has taught the MYP names them and says roughly what each one rewards. Somebody who has not says the programme is criterion-based and moves on to describing their years of experience. Apply it to us as readily as to anybody else.

At a glance

  • Most MYP students work best around 5pm; MYP 4 and 5 stretch to 6pm
  • Below MYP 3, a weekend morning beats any weekday evening
  • A Town Square school run commonly puts a child home between 4:30pm and 5:00pm
  • Year 11 adds the Personal Project on top of a full subject load
  • Four criteria per subject, each marked 0-8, differing by subject group
  • Online one-to-one only in the UAE; no IB Gram home visits anywhere here
IB programmes

Every IB programme stage, mapped to UAE school years

The MYP spans five years and asks for different things at each end, and the usable session hour changes with the age as well. These are the stages we cover for Town Square families.

MYP 1-2Ages 11-13 · Years 7-8

MYP Years 1 and 2, Years 7 and 8

The transition years. Students meet tasks that ask them to investigate, communicate and reflect rather than simply answer, and reports begin to show the four-criterion profile parents find hard to read. Those who treat every task as a test of recall score below what they know.

This is the age group where the hour matters most and gets chosen worst. After a Town Square school run an eleven-year-old has an hour of useful attention left, not three. Sessions here work at 4:45pm or 5pm, or on a weekend morning, and we will say so rather than take a later booking that will quietly stop working.

MYP 3Ages 13-14 · Year 9

MYP Year 3, Year 9

The year that decides the next two. Subject choices are made or narrowed, the demand in each subject steps up, and the criterion profile starts to carry real information about which Diploma routes will suit. Still no external examination, which is why it feels less urgent than it is.

Town Square has many mid-stage arrivals, and a child joining in Year 9 from another system meets criterion-based assessment for the first time. They are frequently quick and accurate and still marked down, because the task wanted a justified generalisation and they produced an answer. A fixable mismatch rather than a weakness.

MYP 4-5Ages 14-16 · Years 10-11

MYP Years 4 and 5, Years 10 and 11

Demand rises sharply and the stakes become real, because these years decide Diploma subject and level choices. Year 11 adds the Personal Project, a substantial independent piece assessed against its own criteria, competing with everything else for the same hours.

This is where most of our Town Square MYP work sits, and where a 5:30pm or 6pm session becomes workable. It is also where the week genuinely runs out of room, which is why the Personal Project needs a protected slot rather than whatever time is left over after everything else.

MYP to DPAge 16 · Year 11 into Year 12

The step into the Diploma

The largest step in the IB continuum. Criterion-based internal assessment gives way to external examination plus Internal Assessments, content depth rises sharply, and Higher Level subjects demand sustained independent work. Students comfortable in MYP 5 can be struggling by November of Year 12.

The criterion profile predicts this and almost nobody reads it that way. A weak sciences processing and evaluating criterion forecasts difficulty with the Diploma individual investigation; weak mathematics communication forecasts the Exploration. Both are addressable in Year 11, cheaply, before the Diploma starts.

Subject coverage

IB and IGCSE subjects we tutor

The MYP subject groups Town Square families ask about, with the criteria that apply and where marks are genuinely lost in each.

Mathematics

Standard and Extended, MYP 1-5

Criteria: knowing and understanding, investigating patterns, communicating, and applying mathematics in real-life contexts. Criterion B rewards generalising from a pattern and justifying it, which no traditional lesson drills, and criterion C marks the quality of communication rather than the answer.

Sciences

Integrated and discipline-specific, MYP 1-5

Criteria: knowing and understanding, inquiring and designing, processing and evaluating, and reflecting on the impacts of science. Criterion B asks for an investigation designed with controlled variables; criterion C for data processed and the method evaluated.

Language and Literature

MYP 1-5

Criteria cover analysing, organising, producing text and using language. Students lose marks by summarising a text rather than analysing how it produces meaning, exactly as they later will in Diploma Paper 1. Organisation is marked explicitly, which rewards planning first.

Language Acquisition

Phases 1-6

Criteria cover listening, reading, speaking and writing, assessed by phase rather than by year group. A student can sit in a different phase from their year peers, which confuses parents and is entirely normal. Progress is measurable because the skills are discrete.

Individuals and Societies

MYP 1-5

Criteria cover knowing and understanding, investigating, communicating and thinking critically. The critical-thinking criterion is where most marks go: students describe sources rather than evaluating their reliability and usefulness, which is teachable technique.

Design

MYP 1-5

Criteria cover inquiring and analysing, developing ideas, creating the solution and evaluating. Documentation carries the marks, and students routinely produce a good outcome with almost no record of the design cycle, which caps the score regardless of quality.

Arts

Visual, performing and music, MYP 1-5

Criteria cover knowing and understanding, developing skills, thinking creatively and responding. The process journal is where marks sit, and students who treat it as an afterthought lose credit their practical work had already earned.

Physical and Health Education

MYP 1-5

Criteria cover knowing and understanding, planning for performance, applying and performing, and reflecting and improving performance. The written and reflective components surprise families expecting a purely practical subject, and that is where marks are usually lost.

The Personal Project

MYP 5, Year 11

Assessed against criteria covering planning, applying skills, reflecting and communicating. Process documentation decides the score far more than the product does, which is why establishing a dated journal habit in the first fortnight is the highest-value intervention available.

Approaches to learning skills

Across all subject groups

Thinking, research, communication, social and self-management skills, assessed implicitly through the subject criteria. Weak self-management shows as low scores across several subjects at once — the pattern worth spotting before any subject tutoring is bought.

How sessions run

Tutoring formats built around UAE school timetables

Three MYP arrangements that fit a Town Square week, all online over live video. The choice is driven by age and by whether the Personal Project is in play.

Early weekday slot, straight off the run

A 4:45pm or 5pm start, after a break and some food, which is the only hour most MYP students have genuinely available. Sixty minutes is the right length. It exists as an option only because nobody is driving to you, and it is the default for MYP 1 to 3.

  • Starts fifteen to thirty minutes after your child reaches home
  • Sixty minutes, which is as much as this age group uses well
  • The default for Years 7 to 9
  • Leaves the rest of the evening for homework and family time

Weekend morning block

Friday or Saturday mornings, ninety minutes to two hours. The honest answer for households running two or three school runs, for children below MYP 3 whose weekday evenings are gone, and for Personal Project work where a long uninterrupted stretch is worth more than scattered half-hours.

  • Ninety minutes to two hours in one sitting
  • Best for Personal Project work and criterion-assessed tasks
  • The right answer for multi-child households
  • Keeps weekday evenings free entirely

Year 11 protected Personal Project slot

A fixed slot held specifically for the Personal Project alongside subject work, because in Year 11 the project otherwise gets whatever time is left over, which is none. The tutor coaches scope, documentation and reflection; the project stays entirely the student's own work.

  • Scope narrowed until the project is achievable alongside everything else
  • Dated documentation habit established in the first fortnight
  • Criterion-level feedback on the student's own journal and report
  • No producing, writing or finishing any part of the project

What IB and IGCSE study actually looks like in Town Square

01

Which hour works at which MYP age

This is the part of MYP tutoring that providers skip and families discover. Scheduling for a Diploma student is a matter of preference; scheduling for an eleven-year-old is a matter of whether the session happens at all in any useful sense.

The constraint is cumulative fatigue. An MYP 1 student has been awake since six, has had a full school day, and has spent perhaps fifty minutes in a car on the Al Qudra Road approach. The attention they have left is roughly one hour, and it is available from about a quarter of an hour after they get home until somewhere around six o'clock. After that they are present and not learning, which is a distinction a tutor can see and a parent in another room cannot.

The window widens with age. MYP 4 and 5 students — Years 10 and 11 — handle a 5:30pm or 6pm session comfortably and can sustain ninety minutes when a criterion-assessed task is due. By the Diploma the useful hour has moved to eight in the evening. That progression is predictable enough to plan around, and it is why we ask the year group before anything else.

Weekend mornings are the alternative and they are better than their reputation. For a Year 7 or Year 8 student, two hours on a Friday morning with a clear head is worth considerably more than three tired weekday half-hours, and for a household running school runs to two or three schools they are frequently the only honest answer. We propose them readily, including when a family has asked for a weekday evening, because the alternative is a session nobody is using.

Year 11 is a double load, and the calendar shows it

MYP 5 is the year the week runs out of room, and it does so predictably enough that it can be planned for rather than survived. A Year 11 MYP student is carrying a full subject load with criterion-assessed tasks across eight subject groups, the Personal Project, and in many schools the subject and level decisions for the Diploma that follows.

The Personal Project is the part that gets squeezed, because it has no weekly lesson defending it. Subject tasks have deadlines a teacher chases; the project has a distant deadline and a student's own judgement, which in a busy term loses every time. That is why the documentation almost always suffers rather than the product: the making happens because it is engaging, and the recording of decisions, difficulties and changes of direction does not happen at all.

That matters because the criteria reward planning, applying skills, reflecting and communicating the process rather than the quality of what was produced. A modest project with a thorough, dated journal outscores an impressive one documented retrospectively in the final month — and retrospective documentation reads as reconstruction, because it is.

So the recommendation for a Town Square Year 11 is structural rather than academic: protect a slot for the project specifically, early, when the habit can still be established. Ninety minutes a fortnight from the start of the year is worth more than six hours in April. The table sets the Year 11 crunch out against what should be happening when, so the pressure points are visible before they arrive.

03

Reading the criterion profile, and when to act on it

  • Four criteria per subject, each 0-8, measuring different capabilities
  • The average discards the only information the report contained
  • One criterion low across several subjects is one problem, not three
  • Act once a pattern repeats across two reporting cycles, not after one task

MYP reports give four criterion scores per subject, each out of eight, and no overall grade. Families coming from a percentage-based system read that as a puzzle. It is closer to an instruction, and the most useful thing a tutor can do in a first conversation is translate it.

The criteria differ by subject group. Mathematics marks knowing and understanding, investigating patterns, communicating, and applying mathematics in real-life contexts. Sciences mark knowing and understanding, inquiring and designing, processing and evaluating, and reflecting on the impacts of science. Individuals and Societies covers knowing and understanding, investigating, communicating and thinking critically. They measure genuinely different capabilities, which is why a profile of 7, 4, 5, 3 is informative and the average of those four numbers is not.

The pattern most worth finding is a single criterion low across several subjects at once. A student scoring poorly on communication in mathematics, organising in Language and Literature and documentation in Design has one structuring and self-management problem appearing in three places, not three subject weaknesses. Fixing it once lifts all three, which is both cheaper and faster than three subject tutors. This is the first thing we look for and almost never what a family arrives asking about.

On timing: act on a criterion pattern as soon as it repeats across two reporting cycles, because a single low score can be one bad task. By MYP 5 the criteria that forecast Diploma difficulty deserve specific attention — a weak sciences processing and evaluating criterion predicts trouble with the Diploma individual investigation, and weak mathematics communication predicts the Exploration. Both are cheap to address in Year 11 and expensive in Year 12.

04

Arabic, Islamic Education and UAE Social Studies alongside the MYP

  • Mandatory in all Dubai private schools whatever the international curriculum
  • Separate classes required for Arabs and non-Arabs; combined classes prohibited
  • Instructional time calculated on a 40-minute lesson unit
  • Additional content needs prior MoE permission, which limits how support can be described

This is a real part of a Town Square MYP student's week and it is absent from almost every competitor page. Arabic, Islamic Education and Social or Moral Studies are mandatory in all Dubai private schools regardless of the licensed international curriculum, and KHDA required its current arrangements to be implemented by the start of the 2025-26 academic year, or April 2026 for schools whose year begins in April.

The structure is specific. KHDA requires schools to organise separate classes for Arabs and non-Arabs in Arabic as a first language, Islamic Education and Social Studies, stating that combined classes for both groups are strictly prohibited because the curriculum expectations and the language of instruction differ. Standard Arabic is required as the main language of instruction for Islamic Education for Arabs and for Arabic as a first language, with Arabic the primary language for Social Studies for Arab students, and the school's licensed-curriculum language used for non-Arabs in Islamic Education and in Moral, Social and Cultural studies.

Two further details are worth knowing as a parent. KHDA requires that all teachers of Islamic Education and Arabic hold appropriate KHDA approval to teach those subjects, which is a concrete and checkable credential point about school staff. And mandatory-subject instructional time is calculated on a 40-minute lesson unit, with schools permitted to vary lesson length provided the total weekly time is met, and advice that any mandatory-subject lesson should run at least 25 minutes.

One constraint applies directly to tutoring in these subjects: for the mandatory UAE subjects, the use of any different or additional content without prior permission from the Ministry of Education is strictly prohibited. That is a genuine limit on how any provider may describe Arabic, Islamic or Social Studies support, and it is why we describe this work as helping a student with the material their school teaches rather than as an alternative curriculum. These subjects sit alongside the MYP rather than inside it, and they still occupy hours in the same week.

05

An MYP tutor is not a Diploma tutor at a lower level

  • Diploma specialists add depth; an MYP criterion problem does not want depth
  • Ask the candidate to name the four criteria for the subject group
  • A vague answer about criterion-based assessment is a no
  • Neither primary nor Diploma experience transfers to the MYP automatically

This is the mismatch that costs Town Square families the most, and it is invisible for a whole term. Many tutors advertising IB experience mean the Diploma, because that is where most of the market is and where the fees are highest. Handed an MYP 3 student, a Diploma specialist will teach the subject very well against entirely the wrong target.

What they will do is add depth. More content, harder examples, faster pace — all of which is good teaching and none of which addresses a criterion B score of 3. The MYP was not asking for more content. It was asking for a justified generalisation, or a designed investigation with controlled variables, or a documented process, or an evaluation rather than a description. A tutor who has never worked to the criteria does not know that is the target, and the sessions feel productive because they are, just not for the thing being marked.

The test is a single question and it takes fifteen seconds: name the four criteria for this subject group. Somebody who has taught the MYP names them and says roughly what each rewards. Somebody who has not says the MYP is criterion-based and moves on to describing their experience. Treat the second answer as a no, politely, and ask the same question of the next candidate.

The related trap is the opposite direction: a tutor experienced with younger children who has never seen a criterion-assessed task either. The MYP sits in an awkward middle where neither primary nor Diploma experience transfers automatically, which is precisely why MYP-specific tutoring is thinner in this market than the number of MYP students would suggest.

06

What MYP tutoring costs around Town Square

Published Dubai rates, read from provider pages in October 2026. Budget online tutoring from AED 33-65 an hour, with Tutopiya at AED 33-52 and EdFlik at AED 45-65. Qualified online subject tutors AED 150-300, with Unitors publishing IB from AED 200. IB specialists AED 200-450 and above, with TutorChase at AED 270 and Bestimate putting the band at AED 200-450 plus. In-home visits AED 180-500 including travel. BartyED publishes AED 650 at the premium end.

MYP sits in an unusual place on that ladder. The budget band is more viable here than at Diploma level for straightforward content help, because a capable graduate genuinely can support an MYP 2 student with content and confidence. What it cannot do is work to the criteria, so if the report shows a criterion problem rather than a content problem, the cheap option addresses the wrong thing however pleasant the sessions are.

The expensive mismatch runs the other way: paying specialist rates for a Diploma tutor with no MYP experience. Same published band, excellent teaching, wrong target. That one is worth guarding against specifically, because it carries the price signal of quality and delivers depth to a student whose report was asking for documented process or justified generalisation.

By the month the same bands read as follows. Bestimate estimates AED 240-600 for one weekly hour at the budget band, AED 600-1,200 mid-tier, and AED 1,000-2,000 or more for specialist work, with advertised packages at around AED 799 a month for eight online sessions. The MYP distortion is that families read those as a five-year figure and flinch, when almost no MYP student needs five years of anything: the load concentrates in the final year, and before that the pattern that works is a short block when a criterion profile goes wrong, then nothing. Every figure above belongs to the provider named beside it, and none of them is an IB Gram price. Ours comes after the diagnostic, because an honest number depends on the MYP year, on which criterion is actually failing, and on whether the Personal Project is in play.

Ramadan, prayer times and a younger student's week

  • Ramadan usually needs a late-morning, early-afternoon or post-Iftar slot
  • Content shifts to consolidation rather than new material that month
  • Prayer times built into the slot from the start, not raised later
  • With younger students, reset the slot deliberately rather than letting it drift

The UAE academic calendar affects MYP students more than Diploma students, because a shorter school day and a reorganised evening hit a child with less reserve harder. Planning for it is straightforward provided it happens in advance.

During Ramadan, school days shorten and the evening reorganises around Iftar. For MYP students the usual five o'clock slot often stops working entirely, and families here typically move to a late-morning or early-afternoon session on the shortened school days, shift to a post-Iftar slot for older MYP students, or pause part of the month and resume afterwards with a weekend block. Content should also move towards consolidation rather than new material, which suits a shorter attention span better anyway.

Prayer times matter all year and move through the calendar, so we build slots around them from the start rather than waiting for a family to raise it. The same applies to the long summer and the travel weekends normal in this community — sessions continue while a family is away, because the tutor's location is already part of the arrangement and only the time of day needs adjusting.

With younger students the drift risk is higher than with Diploma candidates, because nobody is chasing a deadline. A cancelled session becomes a rescheduled one becomes a cancelled one, and by February the arrangement has ended without anyone deciding it should. The commitment we ask for is small and specific: tell us the new pattern and we move the fixed slot deliberately rather than letting a run of missed weeks make the decision.

08

What we will not claim about MYP progress

  • No criterion, grade or improvement guarantees
  • No statistics without n, date and method — so none published
  • No regulator or KHDA teaching-approval claims of any kind
  • We decline a session hour that is too late for the child's age

No guarantee of a criterion score, a grade or an improvement. Criterion scores move when a student changes how they approach a task, which takes practice and happens on their timeline rather than ours, and an offer that ignores that is a sales device rather than a commitment.

No statistics without a sample size, a date and a method, which means none published. No average criterion scores achieved by students we have taught, no percentage improved, no satisfaction figure, no self-generated star rating. Competitors publish such numbers routinely, occasionally in two conflicting versions on the same page, and almost never say how any of them was produced. Self-asserted review markup also breaches Google's structured-data policy.

No regulator claim of any kind. IB Gram holds no KHDA, ADEK, SPEA, MoE, MoHRE or IB approval, accreditation, licence or partnership, has no office or centre anywhere in the UAE, and does not claim KHDA teaching approval — which is a real credential required of school teachers of Arabic and Islamic Education, and not something a tutoring platform holds. We also host no IB material as downloads; subject guides and criteria belong to the IB and we reference them.

And we will turn down an hour rather than take it. If a family proposes half six for a Year 7 student after a long run from Al Barsha, we will say the hour is too late to be useful and offer a weekend morning instead. Occasionally we will read a report and tell a family their child is doing fine and the unfamiliar scale was the problem, which is the smallest possible sale and sometimes the correct answer.

Where we tutor

Town Square and the MYP school run

No MYP school sits inside Town Square, so every family here is running a drive, and the length of that drive decides which hour is usable for a younger child.

Town Square

A Nshama community off Al Qudra Road with a young population, which means more MYP-age children than Diploma students. No MYP provision inside the community, so every family is driving out.

The Sustainable City

Home to Fairgreen International School, which runs the full IB continuum including the MYP. One of the shortest MYP runs available from Town Square, and the one that makes a 4:45pm session realistic.

Mudon

Nearest Dubai Properties community, with a population concentrated in exactly the MYP years. Enquiries here are often about reading the criterion report rather than about a subject weakness.

Remraam

Apartment community served by South View School, with the shortest school run on this stretch and therefore the widest usable afternoon for a younger student.

Arabian Ranches 3

Nearest established community towards Emirates Road, sharing the school pool. Earlier collection makes an earlier session realistic, which matters more at eleven than at seventeen.

Serena

A quiet townhouse community on the same corridor with the same drive and the same scarcity of tutors who have actually worked with MYP criteria rather than Diploma content.

DAMAC Hills 2

Further out along Al Qudra Road and villa-weighted, with the same MYP school destinations and the same afternoon traffic shaping the evening.

How matching works

From first enquiry to a tutor who fits

  1. 01

Tell us the year group and the door time

Which MYP year, which school, and what time your child actually reaches home rather than the bell time. Those two facts together decide which hour is usable, and for a Year 7 student they decide whether a weekday session is viable at all.

  2. 02

    Send the actual criterion scores

The four scores per subject, not a summary. A parent's description — doing badly in science — discards exactly the information that distinguishes a content gap from an investigation-design gap or a reflection gap, which need three different kinds of work.

  3. 03

We look for one criterion low across subjects

Before recommending subject tutoring, we check whether a single transferable skill is dragging several subjects at once. Communication in maths, organising in language, documentation in design is one problem in three places, and fixing it once lifts all three.

  4. 04

Free trial lesson at the hour you would use

One full lesson with the tutor who would continue, no card required and no obligation, at the time you intend to keep. At MYP age the hour and the rapport matter more than credentials, so this session tests both at once.

  5. 05

Fix the slot, and protect the project slot separately

The weekly time stays put, around prayer times and sport, with a planned Ramadan change. For Year 11, the Personal Project gets its own protected slot from the start of the year rather than whatever time is left over, which is reliably none.

Why families choose us

What UAE parents tell us matters most

We plan from age as well as the school run

An eleven-year-old home at half four has about an hour of useful attention; a seventeen-year-old is sharpest at eight in the evening. We ask the year group before anything else, because the usable window moves with age and is narrow at the younger end.

The five o'clock slot exists because nobody drives

A visiting tutor leaving another part of Dubai in afternoon traffic arrives at half six, which is exactly when a younger MYP child stops absorbing. Online delivery is what makes the hour that works available at all from Town Square.

MYP experience, not Diploma experience scaled down

A Diploma specialist adds depth, and an MYP criterion problem does not want depth — it wants a justified generalisation, a designed investigation or a documented process. Ask any candidate to name the four criteria for the subject group.

The Personal Project gets its own slot

In Year 11 the project has no weekly lesson defending it, so it receives whatever time is left over, which is none. A protected fortnightly slot from week one is worth more than six hours in April, because the criteria reward documented process.

We read the report as a prediction

A weak sciences processing criterion forecasts trouble with the Diploma individual investigation; weak mathematics communication forecasts the Exploration. Those signals sit in MYP reports for five years and almost nobody uses them.

We decline a bad hour, and sometimes the sale

If a proposed slot is too late for a Year 7 student, we say so and offer a weekend morning. Occasionally we read a report and tell a family their child is doing fine and the unfamiliar scale was the problem.

Questions parents ask

IB and IGCSE tutoring in Town Square: your questions answered

What time should an MYP session be for a Town Square family?+

Around five o'clock for most MYP students: late enough to have decompressed after the run from The Sustainable City, Motor City or the inner city and eaten something, early enough to still concentrate. MYP 4 and 5 students stretch comfortably to 5:30pm or 6pm. Below MYP 3 a weekend morning is usually better than any weekday evening, and we will propose that rather than take a later booking. These times are only possible because nobody is driving to you.

Why can't my Year 7 child have a 6:30pm session?+

Because the attention is gone. An MYP 1 student has been awake since six, had a full school day, and spent perhaps fifty minutes in a car on the Al Qudra Road approach. What remains is roughly one hour of useful concentration, available from shortly after they get home until around six. After that they are present and not learning — a distinction a tutor sees clearly and a parent in another room does not. We would rather offer a weekend morning than bill for that hour.

Does the usable hour change as a child moves up the MYP?+

Yes, and predictably. MYP 1 and 2 students work in a 4:45pm to 5:45pm window, sixty minutes at most. MYP 3 extends to about six. MYP 4 and 5 handle 5pm to 7pm and can sustain ninety minutes when a criterion-assessed task is due. By the Diploma the productive hour has moved to eight in the evening, which is why Diploma tutoring scheduling advice does not transfer to a Year 7 student. We ask the year group before proposing any slot.

Why does the Personal Project always get squeezed in Year 11?+

Because it has no weekly lesson defending it. Subject criterion tasks have deadlines a teacher chases; the project has a distant deadline and relies on a fifteen-year-old's own judgement in a term already full. What suffers is the documentation rather than the product — the making happens because it is engaging, and recording decisions, difficulties and changes of direction does not. Since the criteria reward planning, skills, reflection and process communication rather than the object, that is exactly the wrong thing to lose.

When should Personal Project support start?+

Week one of Year 11, in a protected fortnightly slot. Ninety minutes a fortnight from the start of the year is worth more than six hours in April, because what the criteria reward is a documented process and that cannot be reconstructed convincingly — a journal written retrospectively in one weekend reads as reconstruction, because it is. The coaching itself is scope narrowing, establishing a dated documentation habit, explaining what each criterion rewards, and feedback on the student's own journal.

How do I read my child's MYP criterion scores?+

As an instruction rather than a puzzle. Four scores per subject, each out of eight, measuring genuinely different capabilities that differ by subject group — mathematics marks knowing and understanding, investigating patterns, communicating, and applying maths in real-life contexts, while sciences mark knowing and understanding, inquiring and designing, processing and evaluating, and reflecting. A profile of 7, 4, 5, 3 tells you the content is known and something else is not. Averaging those four numbers discards the only information the report contained.

When should we act on a low criterion score?+

Once a pattern repeats across two reporting cycles, because a single low score can be one bad task on one bad week. What is worth acting on immediately is a criterion low across several subjects at once — communication in mathematics, organising in Language and Literature, documentation in Design — because that is one structuring and self-management problem appearing in three places rather than three subject weaknesses, and fixing it once lifts all three.

Is an MYP tutor different from a Diploma tutor?+

Yes, and the difference costs a term when it is ignored. Many tutors advertising IB experience mean the Diploma. Handed an MYP 3 student, a Diploma specialist adds depth — more content, harder examples, faster pace — which is good teaching aimed at the wrong target, because the MYP was asking for a justified generalisation or a documented process. The test takes fifteen seconds: ask them to name the four criteria for the subject group. A vague answer about criterion-based assessment is a no.

Which schools do Town Square MYP students attend?+

No MYP school sits inside Town Square, so every family here is driving. Fairgreen International School in The Sustainable City runs the full continuum and is one of the shortest runs available. Others travel to Bradenton Preparatory Academy, Dubai International Academy in Al Barsha, GEMS Wellington Academy in Silicon Oasis, Nord Anglia International School Dubai or North London Collegiate School Dubai. We name these as local context and have no affiliation with any of them; the school matters because it sets the finish time.

Do Town Square MYP pupils also take Arabic and Islamic Education?+

Yes. Arabic, Islamic Education and Social or Moral Studies are mandatory in all Dubai private schools regardless of the licensed international curriculum, with KHDA requiring its current arrangements to be implemented by the start of the 2025-26 academic year. KHDA also requires separate classes for Arabs and non-Arabs in Arabic as a first language, Islamic Education and Social Studies, stating combined classes are strictly prohibited because curriculum expectations and the language of instruction differ. Instructional time is calculated on a 40-minute lesson unit. These sit alongside the MYP, not inside it.

What does MYP tutoring cost for a Town Square family?+

Published Dubai figures read in October 2026: budget online from AED 33-65 an hour (Tutopiya, EdFlik), qualified online subject tutors AED 150-300 with Unitors publishing IB from AED 200, IB specialists AED 200-450 and above with TutorChase at AED 270, and in-home visits AED 180-500 including travel. Monthly, Bestimate estimates AED 240-600 budget, AED 600-1,200 mid and AED 1,000-2,000 plus for specialist work. The budget band is more viable at MYP than at Diploma for content help, but it cannot work to the criteria.

Would an in-home tutor suit a younger MYP child better?+

On presence, genuinely yes — somebody physically there can take a phone off the table and notice attention going, which matters more at eleven than at seventeen. On timing, no, and from Town Square the timing wins the argument. A visiting tutor leaving another part of Dubai in afternoon traffic arrives around half six, which is exactly when a younger MYP child stops absorbing. We make no UAE home visits in any case; in-home tutoring is a service we run in India only.

How do MYP sessions change during Ramadan here?+

They move, and younger students need the change more than Diploma students do. School days shorten and evenings reorganise around Iftar, so the usual five o'clock slot often stops working entirely. Town Square families typically switch to a late-morning or early-afternoon session on shortened days, move older MYP students to post-Iftar, or pause part of the month and resume with a weekend block. Content should also shift towards consolidation rather than new material, which suits a shorter attention span better.

What should we do in MYP 5 to prepare for the Diploma?+

Target the criteria that forecast trouble, which the report already names. A weak sciences processing and evaluating criterion predicts difficulty with the Diploma individual investigation, worth 20% of a science grade. Weak mathematics communication predicts lost marks in the Exploration. Weak critical thinking in Individuals and Societies predicts the Extended Essay. A short block in the second half of Year 11 or over the summer, aimed at one or two of those, costs a fraction of a Year 12 rescue and arrives before two years of content is built on the gap.

Might you tell us our child does not need tutoring?+

Occasionally, and it has happened more than once with MYP reports. A criterion profile that looks alarming to a parent coming from a percentage-based system sometimes describes a student doing perfectly well, with the unfamiliar scale being the actual problem. In that case we say so, which is the smallest possible sale. The other cases where we decline are a proposed session hour too late for the child's age, and situations where a conversation with the subject teacher is the right first step rather than a tutor.

Send the year group, the door time and the report

An IB MYP tutor in Town Square is only useful in an hour your child can still concentrate in, and that hour moves with age as much as with the school run. Send the MYP year, what time they actually reach home, and the actual criterion scores per subject, and we will tell you which window is workable, whether one criterion is dragging several subjects at once, and whether the Personal Project needs its own protected slot. Then a free trial lesson at that hour with the tutor who would continue. One-to-one over live video, with no UAE home visits.
