IB Physics Tutor in Town Square

An IB physics tutor in Town Square has to fit into an evening that has already lost an hour to Al Qudra Road. Your child finishes in Motor City or the inner city, reaches home after half four, and then faces the most attention-expensive subject on their timetable. IB Gram places a physics specialist in the hour that still works, one-to-one over live video on Gulf Standard Time.

  • Session times set from your school's actual finish time

IB & IGCSE in Town Square

When does physics actually fit into a Town Square week?

Physics is the subject where the hour matters most and gets chosen least carefully. A tired student can read a biology chapter and retain something useful. A tired student cannot follow a derivation, cannot carry units through four steps of a calculation without losing one, and cannot hold a free-body diagram in mind while resolving forces in an unfamiliar direction. Those are the actual demands of a Diploma physics session, and they do not survive a bad hour.

Town Square makes the timing problem concrete. It is a Nshama community off Al Qudra Road, and the schools offering Diploma physics are not nearby — students here travel to Motor City, Dubai Sports City, or further into Al Barsha and Silicon Oasis. A school day ending at half three becomes a 4:45pm arrival home once the afternoon traffic on the Al Qudra approach is counted, and from an inner-city school it is nearer five.

A visiting tutor compounds it. They leave another part of Dubai in the same traffic, so the realistic start is half six, the session ends at eight, and the student has been working for thirteen hours by the time somebody asks them to propagate an uncertainty. That arrangement is not failing on teaching quality. It is failing on the clock, and from this community the clock is what is in short supply.

IB Gram removes travel from both sides. Lessons are one-to-one over live video on Gulf Standard Time, and we make no home visits anywhere in the UAE — in-home tutoring is a service we run in India only. So a Year 12 student can start at 4:45pm, fifteen minutes after walking through the door, and a Year 13 student can take an 8pm ninety-minute block once the house is quiet, which for a full data-analysis question plus marking is the right shape.

The second thing worth establishing early is when in the course help is worth most, because for physics the answer is weighted heavily towards the first year. Everything in the course assumes algebraic fluency that the course itself does not teach. The investigation is worth 20% of the grade and is finished long before exam revision begins. And the Higher Level practical paper tests a skill built over months rather than crammed in a term.

The IB accounts for around 7% of Dubai's 387,441 private-school pupils across 227 schools, spread across the whole emirate, with only the final two years sitting the Diploma. Physics at Higher Level is a narrow specialism inside that, so the chance that a qualified HL physics teacher lives near Town Square with a free weekday evening is low. Matching online makes the question irrelevant, which is the point.

At a glance

  • Physics needs an alert hour, not whichever slot happens to be free
  • A Town Square school run commonly puts a child home between 4:30pm and 5:00pm
  • Year 12 usually works best at 4:45pm; Year 13 often at 8pm for ninety minutes
  • The investigation is 20% of the grade and is finished before revision starts
  • Market rates: qualified online tutors AED 150-300/hr; IB specialists AED 200-450+
  • Online one-to-one only in the UAE; no IB Gram home visits anywhere here
IB programmes

Every IB programme stage, mapped to UAE school years

Physics at each stage asks for something different, and so does the hour it needs. These are the stages we cover for Town Square families.

MYPAges 11-16 · Years 7-11

MYP Sciences, the physics strand

Four criteria on a 0-8 scale: knowing and understanding, inquiring and designing, processing and evaluating, and reflecting on the impacts of science. Criterion B asks for an investigation designed with controlled variables; criterion C asks for data processed and the method evaluated. Both are the direct ancestors of Diploma practical work.

MYP students sustain a 5pm or 5:30pm session comfortably, which is the band most Town Square families settle into for this age group. A strong criterion A with a weak criterion C is not a general science concern — it is specifically the experimental strand, and it predicts how a student will handle the Diploma investigation.

DP SLAges 16-19 · Years 12-13

Physics Standard Level

Written papers plus the investigation at 20% of the grade. Breadth rather than depth, which makes coverage the risk: a topic taught in a hurried fortnight can stay unlearned until a mock finds it. Definitions and the correct use of units are examined relentlessly throughout the course.

SL physics is a common Town Square choice for students heading into economics, architecture or life sciences, and is often paired with Applications and Interpretation maths. That pairing works provided the algebra underneath is taught explicitly, because the physics course expects rearrangement AI does not emphasise.

DP HLAges 16-19 · Years 12-13

Physics Higher Level

Additional content depth plus a third written paper testing experimental technique and data analysis directly. The investigation remains 20%. HL rewards students who can sustain a multi-step argument with units and uncertainties carried correctly through every stage, and penalises formula lookup.

The level most engineering and physical-science applications require, and the level at which local specialist supply around Town Square most often reaches zero. Families here frequently need exactly the tutor the neighbourhood cannot provide, which is the whole case for matching online rather than by distance.

BridgeAges 15-16 · Year 11 into Year 12

IGCSE or MYP into Diploma physics

An underestimated step. IGCSE physics rewards recall and single-step calculation; Diploma physics expects derivation, multi-step reasoning and uncertainty treatment. A strong IGCSE grade offers no protection, and the slip usually becomes visible by November of Year 12.

The summer before Year 12 is the only period when a Town Square week has genuinely spare hours in it, which makes it the best-value point to do the bridging work: algebraic rearrangement, logarithms, graph interpretation and uncertainty basics, before two years of content gets built on top.

Subject coverage

IB and IGCSE subjects we tutor

The physics topics and components Town Square students need work on, with the specific place marks go in each. Availability varies by level and term and is confirmed at the trial lesson.

Mechanics and kinematics

HL and SL

Projectiles, momentum, energy and circular motion. Students usually know the equations and lose marks on sign conventions, on resolving forces in an unfamiliar direction, and on choosing a force argument where an energy argument would have been shorter and safer.

Electricity and circuits

HL and SL

The most commonly named weak topic and often genuinely weak. Internal resistance, potential dividers and real components under load. Students apply Ohm's law competently and cannot reason about what happens to a circuit when one component changes.

Waves and oscillations

HL and SL

Superposition, standing waves, diffraction and simple harmonic motion. Phase relationships are the recurring difficulty, and a correctly labelled wave diagram answers several marks of question on its own, which students rarely exploit.

Thermal physics

HL and SL

Specific heat capacity, latent heat and the kinetic model. Marks sit in precise definition and in whether a student can explain a temperature change at the level of particles rather than restating the equation they used to calculate it.

Fields: gravitational, electric and magnetic

HL and SL

Field strength versus potential is the distinction students most often blur, and Higher Level questions exploit it directly. Sketching a field pattern correctly and reasoning about work done moving a charge or mass through it recurs across papers.

Nuclear and quantum physics

HL and SL

Binding energy, decay, the photoelectric effect and energy levels. Arithmetic with very large and very small numbers in standard form costs marks independently of whether the physics is understood, which is worth diagnosing as a separate fault.

Uncertainties and error propagation

HL and SL

Absolute, fractional and percentage uncertainty, how each propagates through addition, multiplication and powers, and what that implies about the precision an answer may claim. Examined across every component and taught in a rush almost everywhere.

Graph work and linearisation

HL and SL

Choosing what to plot so a relationship becomes a straight line, then reading physics from the gradient and intercept. A technique rather than a topic, which is why it responds quickly to one-to-one work and why it is worth isolating.

The practical and data-analysis paper

Higher Level

Reading instruments to sensible precision, identifying a flawed method, selecting controlled variables, judging whether data supports a conclusion. A different skill from the content papers, reached late in most schools, and worth preparing for separately.

The Physics investigation

HL and SL, 20% of the grade

An individual investigation against published criteria. Most marks are lost before any data exists: no measurable variable, too few repeats to say anything about reliability, or a range too narrow for a relationship to show above the noise.

The maths underneath physics

HL and SL

Algebraic rearrangement, indices, logarithms for exponential relationships, trigonometry for resolving vectors, and gradient reasoning. Students taking Applications and Interpretation maths alongside physics usually need this layer taught explicitly.

How sessions run

Tutoring formats built around UAE school timetables

Three physics arrangements that fit a Town Square week, all online over live video. The choice depends on the hour available and on whether the gap is content, technique or the investigation.

Straight off the school run

A 4:45pm start, fifteen minutes after your child reaches home, which exists as an option only because nobody is driving to you. Sixty minutes, and the right slot for new teaching — a derivation, an unfamiliar technique, a topic the class moved through too quickly — while attention is still available.

  • Starts within fifteen minutes of the door
  • Sixty minutes, suited to new content and derivations
  • Best for Year 12 and MYP students
  • Leaves independent practice time afterwards rather than before

Late evening data-analysis block

An 8pm or 8:30pm ninety-minute slot for Year 13 students. Long enough to work a full data-analysis question and mark it together, which a sixty-minute slot cannot do without rushing the marking — and the marking is the part that teaches. Also the right shape for Higher Level practical-paper preparation.

  • Ninety minutes, once or twice a week
  • Full data-analysis questions with live marking
  • Dedicated Higher Level practical paper work
  • Avoids competing with the student's productive early evening

Weekend investigation block

Two to three hours on a Friday or Saturday morning during the investigation term. Method design, range and repeats, uncertainty treatment and writing up to the criteria all reward sustained attention, and a weekend block competes with nothing else in a Town Square week.

  • Two to three hours in one sitting
  • Method reviewed for measurable variables and sufficient repeats
  • Criterion-level feedback on the student's own draft
  • Keeps weekday evenings free in a heavy coursework term

What IB and IGCSE study actually looks like in Town Square

01

Four windows in a Town Square week, and what physics each supports

Scheduling ends more physics arrangements than teaching does. A family agrees a time in September, then an investigation deadline lands in November, a mock arrives in January, and by February the sessions have stopped without anyone deciding to stop them. Physics suffers more than other subjects when that happens, because each session builds directly on the last and the thread does not pick up where it was dropped.

There are four candidate windows out here. Straight off the school run, 4:30pm to 5:30pm, which only exists if nobody is travelling to you. After dinner from seven, which competes with the student's own best independent working hour. Late, from eight, which Year 13 students use well and younger students cannot. And weekend mornings, which are the most reliable and the least used.

For physics the match between task and window is unusually clear. New teaching — a derivation, uncertainty propagation taught properly for the first time, an unfamiliar technique — needs the alert window and should go early in the day. Past-paper practice with marking needs ninety minutes, which rules out the sixty-minute after-dinner slot. Investigation work needs a long uninterrupted block, which in practice means a weekend. And consolidation of material already understood tolerates a later hour.

Choose with your child present, because they know which hour they can concentrate in better than either of us does. Then protect it, and plan the Ramadan change deliberately rather than discovering it: shortened school days, evenings reorganised around Iftar, and a shift to a late-morning, early-afternoon or post-Iftar slot, with content moving towards consolidation rather than new technique for that month.

The Diploma physics year, term by term

Knowing when help is worth most matters as much as knowing what kind. For physics the value is front-loaded, and the reasons are structural rather than motivational.

End of Year 11 and the summer that follows: the bridging window, and the cheapest point in the whole course. IGCSE physics rewards recall and single-step calculation; Diploma physics expects derivation, multi-step reasoning and uncertainty treatment, and the algebra underneath — rearrangement, indices, logarithms, gradient reasoning — is assumed rather than taught. A short block here changes how every later session lands.

First and second terms of Year 12: new content, and the point at which uncertainty technique should be taught properly rather than absorbed incidentally. Third term of Year 12 into first term of Year 13: the investigation, where most of the 20% is decided in the fortnight the research question and method are chosen rather than in the write-up. First term of Year 13 also brings mocks.

Second term of Year 13: paper technique only, including dedicated work on the Higher Level practical paper, which most schools reach late because practice naturally concentrates on the papers both levels sit. Then the May session. One honesty note: the IB's own site blocks automated retrieval, so no IB exam or results date in this project has been confirmed from ibo.org. We name the May session and publish no specific date — get those from your school's IB coordinator or ibo.org. Cambridge and Pearson dates are published and usable: Cambridge runs June and November series with February/March offered to India only, and Pearson Edexcel International GCSE runs May/June and November.

The maths underneath decides the physics grade

  • Physics assumes rearrangement, indices, logarithms and gradient reasoning
  • Applications and Interpretation maths does not drill that layer
  • The diagnostic looks underneath the topic the student names
  • Six to ten early sessions change how every later physics session lands

This is the hidden prerequisite and it explains a large share of the physics struggles we diagnose from this corridor. IB physics assumes algebraic comfort the course never teaches: rearranging an equation with the unknown in the denominator, working with indices and standard form at speed, taking logarithms when a relationship is exponential, resolving vectors with trigonometry, and reasoning fluently about gradients and intercepts.

Where it bites hardest is the combination of Physics Higher Level with Mathematics: Applications and Interpretation. AI is a good course and emphasises modelling, statistics and technology rather than algebraic manipulation, so a student can be doing well in maths and still lack the exact fluency the physics paper demands. That pairing is common in Dubai schools, it is not a mistake, and it needs the algebra taught alongside rather than assumed.

The diagnostic consequence is that we look underneath whatever the student names. A student who says fields are the problem often cannot rearrange the expression confidently enough to see what a question is asking. A student who says the practical paper is impossible often cannot take logarithms of both sides to find a power relationship. Teaching more fields content to the first, or more experimental theory to the second, misses the layer where the marks are actually going.

In practice this means a short algebraic block early is among the best investments a Year 12 physics family can make, and it is faster than it sounds — six to ten focused sessions on rearrangement, indices, logarithms and gradient reasoning. Done in the summer before Year 12 it is cheap and unhurried. Done in February of Year 13 it is a rescue competing with everything else in the week.

04

The investigation is decided in a fortnight, not a term

  • Most marks are decided in the planning fortnight, not the write-up
  • Measurable variable, adequate range, enough repeats, genuinely controlled variables
  • Permitted: criteria explained, method tested, feedback on the student's own draft
  • Not permitted: writing, supplying data, model investigations, editing to a finish

Twenty per cent of the physics grade comes from an individual investigation, and by the time most students ask for help the marks that mattered have already been settled — in the fortnight when the research question was chosen and the method planned, not in the writing.

The design faults recur with remarkable consistency. A research question with no genuinely measurable independent variable, so nothing can be varied systematically. A range too narrow for a relationship to show above the noise. Two readings per point, or none, so nothing honest can be said about reliability. A controlled variable that was named but not actually controlled, discovered at the evaluation stage when the only option left is to confess it. A measurement method whose uncertainty is larger than the effect being measured.

None of those can be fixed by a better conclusion, which is why a tutor who reads the criteria with the student in week one is worth several who read a draft in week ten. The permitted work is substantial: explaining what each criterion rewards and what it is worth, testing whether a proposed question can be investigated with the available equipment, checking the planned range and repeats will produce analysable data, and giving criterion-level feedback on a draft the student has written.

The line is authorship and it is firm. A tutor may not write any part of the investigation, supply data or calculations, provide a model to adapt, or edit a draft to a finish. The student signs an authorship declaration and the supervisor signs alongside, and the IB withdraws awards for malpractice. This search result contains operators selling completed Internal Assessments — one advertises them at AED 3,750 — which risks the whole Diploma rather than one component. We also host no IB past papers, mark schemes or subject guides as downloads; they belong to the IB and we link the official source.

05

The Higher Level practical paper as its own body of work

  • A separate skill, not a layer over the content papers
  • Instrument precision, flawed-method spotting, tables, linearisation, gradient uncertainty
  • One marked past data-analysis question a week is the effective shape
  • The same work also earns investigation processing and evaluation marks

Higher Level candidates sit a third written paper that Standard Level does not, and it tests experimental technique and data analysis as a skill in its own right rather than as a layer over the content. Treating it as revision is the commonest planning error in HL physics.

What it actually asks for is a specific set of habits. Reading an instrument to a precision the instrument justifies. Spotting that a described method cannot answer the question it was set. Identifying which variable needed controlling and was not. Building a results table with correct headings and units. Choosing what to plot so a relationship linearises, drawing maximum and minimum lines through error bars to get an uncertainty on a gradient, and saying what the gradient means physically. Judging whether a conclusion is supported by the data presented.

Schools teach all of it, inside a practical timetable that is always under pressure, and they usually reach the paper late. A student who missed a few weeks of that teaching rarely recovers the technique from a textbook, because none of it is really content. It is a set of procedures that need to be performed, corrected and performed again — which is exactly what one-to-one work with marked past data-analysis questions provides.

The useful shape is one real data-analysis question a week, marked properly rather than discussed, with the error pattern deciding what gets taught next. Ninety minutes is the right length, which is why the 8pm Year 13 window suits this work specifically. It also transfers directly into the investigation's processing and evaluation marks, so the same preparation earns credit twice.

06

What physics tutoring costs in this market

Take the in-home line first, because in Town Square it is the number most families price before anything else: AED 180-500 an hour including travel, read from provider pages in October 2026 along with everything else here. Online, a qualified subject tutor runs AED 150-300 an hour, with Unitors publishing IB from AED 200. The specialist tier of IB, IGCSE and A Level runs AED 200-450 and above, where TutorChase publishes AED 270 and Bestimate puts the band at AED 200-450 plus, while BartyED publishes AED 650 at the premium end. Budget online advertises from AED 33-65, with Tutopiya at AED 33-52 and EdFlik at AED 45-65. Convert that to a term: two hours a week across a twelve-week Diploma term is twenty-four contact hours, which is AED 792 at Tutopiya's floor and AED 15,600 at BartyED's published rate. That span, not a single hourly figure, is what a Town Square parent is choosing inside.

There is a timing dimension to cost that is specific to this community. An in-home arrangement from Town Square costs more per hour and buys a worse hour, because the drive pushes the start past six and physics tolerates a late hour less well than any other subject. So the premium is paying for a journey that degrades the product it is attached to. For a younger child needing physical presence the trade can still be worth making; for a Diploma physics student it rarely is.

The advertised packages are where the Town Square premium turns into arithmetic. Eight online sessions run around AED 799 a month. Four in-home two-hour visits run AED 1,599-1,799 a month. That is eight contact hours either way, so the in-home route costs roughly double for the same quantity of teaching, and the hours it buys start later in the evening. Bestimate's monthly estimates for one weekly hour sit underneath both routes: AED 240-600 at the budget band, AED 600-1,200 mid-tier, and AED 1,000-2,000 or more for specialist exam-year work.

None of the figures above is our price. Each belongs to the provider publishing it, and IB Gram carries no rate card on these pages at all, because a number typed into a landing page cannot know the three things that actually set it: the level the student is sitting, the specific gap the marked work exposes, and how many weeks are left to close it. The in-home premium described above is one we are not competing on either way, since we do not drive to Town Square. What we do instead is make the first lesson free, run the diagnostic inside it, and quote only once there is evidence to quote against.

Ramadan, prayer times and keeping the thread

  • Ramadan needs a late-morning, early-afternoon or post-Iftar slot
  • Content shifts to consolidation rather than new technique that month
  • Prayer times built into the slot from the start, not raised later
  • Sessions continue while travelling; only the time of day changes

A physics plan that ignores the UAE academic year will break, and physics breaks worse than other subjects because the material is cumulative in a direct way: this week's uncertainty work is next week's investigation analysis, and a three-week gap does not resume where it stopped.

Ramadan is the biggest change. School days shorten, the evening reorganises around Iftar, and a student comfortable at six o'clock is not. Town Square families typically shift to a late-morning or early-afternoon slot, move to post-Iftar, or pause part of the month and resume with a heavier block afterwards. All three work; keeping the usual weekday evening does not. Content should also move towards consolidation rather than new technique for that period, which is a better use of a shorter attention span anyway.

Prayer times matter all year and move through the calendar, so we build slots around them from the start rather than waiting for a family to raise it. The same applies to the long summer and the travel weekends that are normal here — sessions continue while a family is away, because the tutor's location is already part of the arrangement rather than an obstacle to it, and only the time of day needs adjusting.

What we work to avoid is the drift of cancel, reschedule, cancel, until nobody says out loud that the arrangement has ended. The small commitment we ask for is a deliberate reset: tell us the new pattern and we move the fixed slot, rather than letting a run of missed weeks make the decision by default.

08

What we will not claim about a physics result

  • No grade, points or improvement guarantees of any kind
  • No statistics without n, date and method — so none published
  • No regulator claims, no UAE office, no unevidenced examiner descriptions
  • We decline a session time that is too late to be useful for physics

No grade guarantee. Not a specific number, not a points improvement, not a particular paper score. The variables — prior algebra, weeks remaining, whether the investigation was designed well, whether the student has ever been taught to write every step down — are not all under a tutor's control, and an offer that ignores that is a sales device.

No statistics without a sample size, a date and a method, which means none published. No average physics score achieved by students we have taught, no percentage improved, no satisfaction figure, no self-generated star rating. Competitors publish such numbers routinely, sometimes in two conflicting versions on the same page, and almost never state how any was produced.

No regulator or awarding-body claim, and no examiner descriptions. IB Gram holds no KHDA, ADEK, SPEA, MoE, MoHRE, IB or Cambridge approval, accreditation, licence or partnership, has no office or centre anywhere in the UAE, and does not describe tutors as IB examiners because current examiner status is not something we can evidence. Examiner status also confers no access to marking, boundaries or paper content, whatever anybody implies.

And we will decline a session time rather than take it. If a family proposes half seven for a Year 12 physics slot after a long run from Al Barsha, we will say that the hour is too late for the subject and propose a weekend block instead. That costs us bookings occasionally and it is the honest position: physics taught to a tired student is a cost rather than an investment.

Where we tutor

Town Square and the drive to Diploma science

The schools running Diploma physics sit a real distance from this corridor, and that distance decides what part of the evening is usable. These are the communities around Town Square.

Town Square

A Nshama community off Al Qudra Road. Diploma students travel out to Motor City, Sports City or the inner city, so a half three finish usually becomes a 4:45pm arrival home at best.

Mudon

Nearest Dubai Properties community, weighted to Years 7 to 9. Science enquiries here are MYP criterion work or Year 11 bridging rather than Diploma rescue, and afternoon slots suit that better.

Remraam

Apartment community served by South View School, the shortest run on this stretch. A 4:15pm physics slot is realistic here where it is not from Town Square itself.

Serena

A quiet townhouse community on the same corridor, with the same drive to Diploma provision and the same absence of local Higher Level physics specialists.

Arabian Ranches 3

Nearest established community towards Emirates Road, sharing the school pool. Collection often twenty minutes earlier, which genuinely widens the evening for a Year 12 session.

DAMAC Hills 2

Further out along Al Qudra Road and villa-weighted, with the same school destinations and the same evening traffic pattern towards Motor City and Sports City.

The Sustainable City

Home to Fairgreen International School, which runs the IB continuum including Diploma sciences. One of the shorter Diploma runs available from Town Square.

How matching works

From first enquiry to a tutor who fits

  1. 01

Tell us the level, the school and the door time

Higher or Standard Level, which school, and what time your child actually reaches home rather than the bell time. Also which maths course they take, because Applications and Interpretation alongside Physics HL changes what the diagnostic needs to check underneath the physics.

  2. 02

    Diagnostic including a data-analysis question

Structured content questions plus at least one real data-analysis question, with a specialist watching rather than teaching. That combination separates a content gap from a technique gap, and in physics the second is far more common than families expect.

  3. 03

Free trial lesson in the slot you mean to keep

The specialist who would continue teaches a full session at the time you intend to use, so you test the hour as well as the tutor. No card required, no obligation. If either is wrong, nothing has been spent and we change it.

Match the work to the window

New teaching and derivations early in the day, consolidation later, data-analysis questions in ninety-minute blocks, investigation work at weekends. Getting that mapping right is most of what separates a productive physics arrangement from a merely regular one.

Review by component, not by impression

Every few weeks the tutor reports something checkable: whether uncertainty propagation is reliable now, whether every step is being written down, which criterion the investigation draft is weak on. If nothing has moved, that is where the plan or the tutor changes.

Why families choose us

What UAE parents tell us matters most

We plan from the time your child gets home

Physics cannot be learned in a tired hour, and from Town Square the gap between a 4:45pm start and a half six one is the gap between a session that works and one that merely happens. No travel either side is why the earlier option exists at all.

The right physics work in the right window

Derivations and new technique early, consolidation later, marked data-analysis questions in ninety minutes, investigation work in a weekend block. Matching task to hour is most of what makes the arrangement productive.

The maths underneath checked first

Physics assumes rearrangement, indices, logarithms and gradient reasoning that the course does not teach. For a student taking Applications and Interpretation maths alongside Physics HL, teaching that layer explicitly changes how every later session lands.

The practical paper prepared separately

Higher Level candidates sit a paper testing experimental technique as a skill in its own right, and most schools reach it late inside a crowded practical timetable. One marked past data-analysis question a week is the effective shape, and it earns investigation marks too.

The investigation coached at design stage

Twenty per cent of the grade, mostly decided in the fortnight the question and method are chosen. We check the variable is measurable, the range will show an effect and the apparatus uncertainty will not swamp it, while the answers can still change something.

We decline a bad hour

If a proposed slot is too late for the subject after a long run, we say so and offer a weekend block instead rather than taking the booking. Physics taught to a tired student is a cost, not an investment, and pretending otherwise would be easier for us.

Questions parents ask

IB and IGCSE tutoring in Town Square: your questions answered

What time can a physics session start after the Town Square school run?+

For a short run — South View in Remraam, or Fairgreen in The Sustainable City — around 4:15pm to 4:30pm. From GEMS Metropole in Motor City or the Dubai Sports City cluster in peak traffic, 4:45pm. From an inner-city school in Al Barsha or Silicon Oasis, closer to five, and many of those families choose an 8pm slot instead. These times exist only because nobody is driving to you; a visiting tutor leaving another part of Dubai in the same traffic realistically starts at half six.

Why does the session time matter so much for physics specifically?+

Because of what a physics session actually demands. Following a derivation, carrying units through four steps without losing one, holding a free-body diagram in mind while resolving forces in an unfamiliar direction — none of that survives a tired hour, in a way that reading a chapter and retaining something does. Physics is the most attention-expensive subject on a Diploma timetable, so booking whichever slot happens to be free is a worse decision here than in any other subject.

Which window suits a Year 13 physics student in Town Square?+

Usually 8pm to 9:30pm, ninety minutes rather than sixty, because a full data-analysis question plus proper marking does not fit in an hour and the marking is the part that teaches. It is also the right slot for dedicated Higher Level practical paper work. The 4:45pm window suits Year 12 and MYP students better, while attention is fresh enough for new technique. The 7pm slot looks convenient and consumes the student's own most productive independent hour.

When in the Diploma is physics tutoring worth most?+

The summer before Year 12 and the first term of Year 12. The summer is the only period when a Town Square week has genuinely spare hours, and it is the right time for bridging work: algebraic rearrangement, logarithms, graph reading and uncertainty basics, all of which the course assumes and does not teach. The first term of Year 12 is when uncertainty technique should be taught properly rather than absorbed incidentally. By the spring of Year 13 only paper technique remains movable.

Why is my child struggling with IB physics after a good IGCSE grade?+

Because the step is real and a strong IGCSE result offers no protection against it. IGCSE physics rewards recall and single-step calculation; Diploma physics expects derivation, multi-step reasoning, uncertainty treatment and graph linearisation. The slip usually becomes visible around November of Year 12, and it is the curriculum rather than a decline in ability. The effective intervention is a short block on the algebra and uncertainty layer, done early, before two years of content is built on top of it.

How should a Town Square HL student prepare for the third physics paper?+

It is the third written paper only HL candidates sit, and it tests experimental technique and data analysis directly: reading instruments to a justified precision, spotting that a method cannot answer its question, identifying uncontrolled variables, building correct results tables, linearising to read physics from a gradient, and judging whether a conclusion is supported. Schools reach it late inside a crowded practical timetable. One real past data-analysis question a week, marked properly rather than discussed, is the shape that works.

When should investigation coaching start for a Town Square physics student?+

Twenty per cent, at both Higher and Standard Level, and most of those marks are decided before any data exists. The recurring faults are a research question whose independent variable cannot be varied systematically, a range too narrow for a relationship to show above the noise, two readings per point so nothing honest can be said about reliability, and apparatus whose uncertainty exceeds the effect. None of those is rescuable by a better conclusion, which is why week-one criterion reading beats week-ten draft reading.

Does taking AI maths alongside Physics HL cause a problem?+

It creates a specific gap worth planning for rather than a problem. Applications and Interpretation emphasises modelling, statistics and technology rather than algebraic manipulation, so a student can be doing well in maths and still lack the rearrangement, index and logarithm fluency the physics paper assumes. The pairing is common in Dubai schools and workable, provided the algebra is taught explicitly alongside. Six to ten focused sessions on rearrangement, indices, logarithms and gradient reasoning changes how every later physics session lands.

Is there an HL physics specialist living near Town Square?+

Usually not. The IB is around 7% of Dubai's 387,441 private-school pupils spread across the whole emirate, only the final two years sit the Diploma, and Physics at Higher Level is a narrow specialism inside that. The pool who have taught it to final grade is small citywide, and most are serving school staff whose permit code of conduct bars tutoring students enrolled at their own school. Town Square is also a newer community where residential build-out outran tutoring supply. Online matching removes distance from the problem.

Can we have an in-home physics tutor in Town Square instead?+

Not from us. IB Gram delivers physics tuition to Town Square one-to-one over live video and makes no home visits anywhere in the UAE — in-home tutoring is a service we run in India only. Beyond that, in-home is particularly poor value for Diploma physics from this community: published rates are AED 180-500 an hour including travel, and the drive pushes the start past six, so you pay more per hour for a worse hour in the subject that tolerates a late slot least well.

What do Town Square families pay for IB physics support?+

Published Dubai figures read in October 2026: qualified online subject tutors AED 150-300 an hour with Unitors publishing IB from AED 200, IB specialists AED 200-450 and above with TutorChase at AED 270 and Bestimate giving AED 200-450 plus, budget online from AED 33-65 with Tutopiya and EdFlik, in-home visits AED 180-500 including travel, and BartyED at AED 650 premium. Monthly, Bestimate estimates AED 240-600 budget, AED 600-1,200 mid and AED 1,000-2,000 plus for specialist exam-year work. Those belong to the providers named.

How do physics sessions change during Ramadan in Town Square?+

They move, and planning the move beats improvising it. School days shorten and evenings reorganise around Iftar, so the usual slot stops working. Families here typically switch to a late-morning or early-afternoon session, move to post-Iftar, or pause part of the month and resume with a heavier block. Content should also shift towards consolidation rather than new technique, which suits a shorter attention span better anyway. Tell us the pattern and we reset the fixed slot deliberately rather than losing the thread.

Will you turn down a session time if it does not suit the subject?+

Yes, and we do. If a family proposes half seven for a Year 12 physics slot after a long run from Al Barsha, we will say the hour is too late for the subject and offer a weekend block instead rather than taking the booking. Physics taught to a tired student is a cost rather than an investment, and the arrangement tends to end in February with nobody quite deciding to end it. Saying so occasionally loses us bookings, which is why it is worth stating.

Can one tutor cover physics and maths for a Town Square student?+

Often yes, and in this pairing specifically there is a real argument for it: the algebraic and graphical demands overlap heavily, so one specialist teaches the rearrangement layer once rather than twice and stops a student treating the two as unrelated subjects. It also lets one person weigh a physics investigation deadline against a maths mock instead of two tutors each optimising for their own subject. What we will not do is stretch a tutor across courses they do not genuinely teach to save a second match.

When are IB physics exams for students in Town Square?+

UAE schools sit the May session. We publish no specific IB date, and the reason matters: the IB's own site blocks automated checking, so no IB session or results date in this project has been confirmed from ibo.org, and we will not put an unverified date in front of a family who will plan around it. Get exact dates from your school's IB coordinator or ibo.org. For IGCSE siblings, Cambridge runs June and November series — February/March is India-only — and Pearson runs May/June and November.
