IGCSE Home Tutor in The Sustainable City

An IGCSE home tutor in The Sustainable City is usually wanted for one of two reasons: a Year 11 student is running out of terms before the June series, or a Year 10 student has just discovered that IGCSE marks arrive faster and harder than Year 9 ones did. This page is built around the examination calendar — which series your child's school enters, when entries close, when results land, and what each remaining term has to deliver. Tuition is delivered live online to this community off Al Qudra Road.

  • Cambridge and Pearson Edexcel series dates taken from the boards' own timetables
  • One subject, one named board, one tutor, with the slot held weekly
  • Past papers worked under timing rather than read through together
  • Trial lesson free, with the tutor who would continue if you proceed

IB & IGCSE in The Sustainable City

The IGCSE question is nearly always a question about which term it is

An IGCSE course is two years long and the grade is decided in about three weeks of it. That asymmetry is what makes the examination calendar the right place to start. A student in the first term of Year 10 can afford to build slowly. A student in the second term of Year 11 is working inside a window that is already closed at one end, and the useful question changes from what should we improve to what can still be rescued in the time left.

The boards fix the outer edges. Cambridge International runs IGCSE and O Level examinations in a June series and a November series — the February and March series is offered to India only, so it is not a route open to a candidate sitting in Dubai. Pearson Edexcel International GCSE runs in May and June and again in November. Both boards split centres into administrative zones and publish separate timetable versions, and Cambridge states plainly that it cannot accept responsibility for candidates who miss an examination after the wrong zone timetable was used. The school handles that, but a parent who knows it exists asks a better question at parents' evening.

Inside those edges, your child's own school sets everything that actually constrains tutoring: the mock window, coursework and practical deadlines, the date predicted grades are finalised, and the point at which entry decisions for tiered papers stop being reversible. That last one catches families out. The choice between Core and Extended in a Cambridge subject, or between a Foundation and Higher tier where one applies, is an entry decision with a deadline, not an opinion that can be revised in May.

The Sustainable City is a convenient place to run this kind of plan, for a reason that has nothing to do with teaching. The community sits off Al Qudra Road with a school inside its own gates, so children at that school are home early and the late-afternoon hours are real rather than theoretical. Children travelling outward to British-curriculum schools in Motor City, Dubai Sports City or Arabian Ranches are home considerably later, and a plan that pretends a 4pm start works for them collapses within a fortnight.

What we do not do is drive to your villa. IB Gram runs no home visits in the UAE at all; every lesson here is live, one-to-one and over video, with past-paper questions shared on screen and a recording available if the family wants one. Household visits exist only in our India operation, and no page of ours will suggest otherwise. The honest case for that model in this neighbourhood is made in a table further down the page, alongside what visiting tutors in this part of Dubai actually charge once travel is priced in. The short version is that an online booking removes the two journeys nobody teaches during, and that the time saved is what makes a late-afternoon session possible at all for a Year 11 student with a full school day behind them.

IB programmes

Every IB programme stage, mapped to UAE school years

Most students in this community reach IGCSE through one of three routes, and the route changes what the first term of Year 10 needs to look like. These are the stages we tutor and where the calendar bites in each.

KS3Ages 11-14 · Years 7-9

Years 7 to 9, before the IGCSE course begins

The years nobody tutors and everybody later wishes they had. Nothing is examined externally, so a gap in algebraic fluency or in writing an extended explanation is invisible until IGCSE marks start arriving. The work here is narrow and unglamorous: negative numbers, fractions, rearranging formulae, and the habit of reading a question twice before answering it.

Families arriving in Dubai mid-phase are the common case in The Sustainable City and the newer Dubailand communities. A child joining a British-curriculum school in Year 8 from an American or CBSE system usually has a specific, closable gap rather than a general weakness, and one term of focused work in Year 9 is worth four terms of catch-up later.

Y10Ages 14-15 · Year 10

Year 10, the first IGCSE year

Content is being covered for the first time and the papers are still a year away, which makes this the cheapest year in which to fix anything. Coursework and practical components in several subjects begin here, and in modular Edexcel subjects some units can be sat early. The common failure is treating Year 10 as a rehearsal and then compressing two years of content revision into the final two terms.

Dubai schools often hold internal Year 10 examinations at the end of the year that feed directly into tier and entry decisions for Year 11. For a student in this community, those internal results are the moment to decide whether Extended is realistic in a subject, while there is still a year of room to make it so.

Y11Ages 15-16 · Year 11

Year 11, the examination year

Three terms, one mock block, and a set of entry deadlines that sit months before the papers. Grades are reported on the 9-1 scale by both boards. Nearly all of the measurable improvement in this year comes from paper technique rather than from new content: command-term discipline, showing method, and answering the question asked rather than the question revised for.

The November series is the resit route for a Dubai student who misses a grade in June, and knowing it exists changes how a family reacts to a disappointing result rather than how they prepare for it. Pearson results history is a useful guide to timing: June 2026 results reached centres on 19 August 2026, and November 2025 results reached students on 22 January 2026.

POSTAges 16+ · Year 11 into Year 12

After IGCSE: the A Level or Diploma decision

IGCSE grades function as entry requirements for whichever route follows, and schools in Dubai set their own thresholds for Higher Level or A Level subjects. A student aiming at a mathematics-heavy route needs a specific grade in a specific paper, not a good overall profile. Working out which grade the target route requires, early, is worth more than a general push on every subject.

For UAE university plans, Ministry of Education equivalency on the British track requires five accredited IGCSE or GCSE subjects at no less than grade E or 3, with Arabic and Islamic Education excluded from that count, plus one subject at Advanced Level at grade E or two at Advanced Subsidiary Level. One ranking competitor publishes a six-subject requirement; the sourced figure is five.

Subject coverage

IB and IGCSE subjects we tutor

These are the IGCSE subjects families in The Sustainable City and the surrounding communities ask about most, with the syllabus codes where they help and the specific place marks go missing. A tutor booked against a named paper works faster than a tutor booked against a subject.

Mathematics

Cambridge 0580 Core and Extended; Pearson 4MA1 Foundation and Higher

Extended and Higher tier questions reward method marks even when the final answer is wrong, so students who write nothing down lose marks they had earned. Algebraic manipulation, not topic knowledge, is the usual bottleneck. Non-calculator fluency is assumed in parts of both specifications.

Physics

Cambridge 0625; Pearson 4PH1

Electricity and the moment-and-equilibrium questions are where Extended candidates reliably drop marks. Practical skills are examined on a written paper rather than in a laboratory, which rewards students who have practised reading apparatus diagrams and spotting the controlled variable.

Chemistry

Cambridge 0620; Pearson 4CH1

Moles and reacting-mass calculations are the single largest source of lost marks, followed by qualitative analysis tests described imprecisely. Students who learn the ionic equations as patterns rather than as recipes answer unfamiliar questions far better.

Biology

Cambridge 0610; Pearson 4BI1

A content-volume subject where precise terminology decides the band. Diffusion and osmosis answers lose marks for omitting the word concentration gradient; genetics questions lose them for incomplete Punnett square notation. Data questions reward reading the axes before the stem.

English Language

Cambridge 0500 and 0990; Pearson 4EA1

Directed writing and the extended response carry most of the marks, and the common failure is writing well in the wrong register for the stated audience. Reading questions require quotation plus comment rather than quotation alone.

English as a Second Language

Cambridge 0510 and 0511

A different course from English Language with different papers, and students entered for the wrong one lose far more than a few marks. Listening and speaking components need rehearsal, not revision. Accuracy in writing outweighs ambition in vocabulary.

Business Studies and Economics

Cambridge 0450 and 0455; Pearson 4BS1 and 4ET1

Case-study subjects where command terms govern the mark. An answer that explains when the question said evaluate caps itself in the lower bands however accurate the content. Numerical questions on ratios and elasticity need separate drilling from the written ones.

Computer Science and ICT

Cambridge 0478 and 0417

Algorithm and pseudocode questions reward a consistent, legible convention more than clever code. Data representation and networking answers need exact vocabulary. The practical component in ICT is a skills examination and improves with repetition rather than with reading.

Arabic and the UAE mandatory subjects

First language and additional language

KHDA requires Arabic, Islamic Education and Social Studies in Dubai private schools whatever the licensed curriculum, with separate classes for Arab and non-Arab students. These grades sit on the report card beside IGCSE subjects and are frequently the weakest line for a family that arrived mid-phase.

How sessions run

Tutoring formats built around UAE school timetables

Three ways IGCSE families here use us, separated by where in the two-year course the student is. Booking the wrong one is the usual reason tutoring feels expensive relative to what it changed.

Year 10 weekly, building rather than repairing

A single weekly slot through the first IGCSE year, running alongside the school's scheme of work. This is the cheapest useful tutoring a family can buy, because fixing algebraic fluency or calculation technique before it meets examination questions costs a fraction of unpicking it in Year 11. It also surfaces tier decisions early enough to influence them.

  • Same tutor and same slot through the year, in Gulf Standard Time
  • Work sequenced against the school's own topic order
  • Tier readiness reviewed before internal Year 10 examinations
  • Free trial lesson before anything is booked

Year 11 countdown block

Built backwards from the mock block or from the series itself. Two sessions a week is normal, with the first two weeks spent on timed diagnostic papers rather than teaching. By the final fortnight the sessions are whole-paper rehearsals, marked against the published mark schemes and reviewed for where method marks were left on the table.

  • Sequenced from the school's mock dates and the board's series
  • Past papers worked under timing from week one, not read through
  • Weekly between-session task with a named output
  • Ends when the series does, with no rolling commitment

A single-subject rescue, honestly scoped

Sometimes one subject is the problem and the rest of the profile is fine. These are short, narrow engagements on a named paper, and they start with us telling you whether the remaining weeks are enough. If the honest answer is that a grade is out of reach and the November series is the better target, we say that before taking a booking.

  • One subject, one board, one tier, with the paper named
  • An explicit statement of what is and is not achievable in the time
  • November series considered as a planned route, not a failure
  • No package upsell into subjects that are not the problem

What IB and IGCSE study actually looks like in The Sustainable City

01

Which series your child sits, and why the March one does not apply here

This is the first thing to establish and the thing most tutoring pages get wrong. Cambridge International examines IGCSE and O Level in a June series and a November series. It also runs a February and March series, which is offered to India only. A candidate sitting in Dubai sits June, with November as the resit and alternative route. Pearson Edexcel International GCSE runs in May and June and again in November. If a tutor, a website or a revision plan refers your Dubai child to a March examination window, that plan was written for a different country.

The second thing to establish is the board, because parents routinely do not know it and the papers differ. Cambridge and Pearson Edexcel are separate qualifications with separate syllabus codes, separate paper structures and separate tiering conventions. Cambridge splits many subjects into Core and Extended; Pearson uses Foundation and Higher tiers in some subjects and a single tier in others, and offers modular assessment in several specifications where Cambridge does not. A tutor who teaches 0580 fluently is not automatically fluent in 4MA1, and the past papers are not interchangeable.

Both boards allocate centres to administrative zones and publish a timetable version per zone. Cambridge's exams officers guide states that every centre is allocated to one of six zones, that it is essential the correct version is used, and that Cambridge cannot accept responsibility for candidates who miss an examination because the wrong one was followed. Your school manages this. The reason it belongs on this page is that it explains why a start time you read on a forum may not match your child's, and why the school's own published timetable is the only one to revise against.

02

The Year 11 year counted backwards from the June series

Nobody in this market publishes this table, which is odd, because the sequence it shows is the entire basis on which a family should decide when to start tutoring. Work from the bottom up. The series dates are fixed by the board. Study leave is fixed by the school. Mocks sit a term before study leave because predicted grades depend on them. Entries, including tier decisions, close well before any of it. Coursework and practical deadlines sit earlier still.

The consequence is that the useful starting point for tutoring is not the same for every goal. A family trying to move a borderline grade needs to be in before the mock block, because mocks set predicted grades and predicted grades affect sixth-form and Diploma offers. A family trying to secure a specific grade for a specific post-16 route can start later and still succeed, because the final ten weeks are the highest-yield weeks for paper technique. A family trying to change a tier decision has the tightest deadline of all, and it is usually earlier than they think.

One thing to avoid: building a revision plan around dates copied from a website. Pearson publishes provisional timetables ahead of each series and revises them, and Cambridge zone versions differ. Treat your child's school timetable as the authority and the board's live timetable page as the backup. What the table below gives you is the order of events and what should be finished by each one, which does not change from year to year even when the dates do.

03

What the next eight weeks can actually deliver in an IGCSE subject

  • Weeks one and two are diagnostic, using timed questions rather than teaching
  • Work is chosen by what recurs on that syllabus code and currently fails
  • Between-session work has a named output, marked against the official scheme
  • If eight weeks is not enough for the target grade, we say so before you book

Eight weeks is the block most families here commit to, and in IGCSE it buys more than it does at Diploma level, because the papers are more pattern-driven. A student who understands the chemistry but cannot lay out a moles calculation can move a full grade in that time. A student who has never properly met half of the Extended specification cannot, and a tutor who implies otherwise is selling hope at an hourly rate.

What works is narrow. Pick the two or three topics that recur most heavily across recent papers for that syllabus code and that the student currently fails, and work only on those until the failure stops. In Cambridge 0580 that is usually algebraic manipulation and multi-step problems; in 0620 it is moles and qualitative analysis; in 0625 it is circuits and moments. The temptation to re-teach the whole course in eight weeks is the single most common way a block gets wasted.

The other half is what happens between sessions. One hour a week is a rounding error in a student's time; the session has to change the other six days. Each of ours ends with a specific task and a named output — three past-paper questions attempted under timing and self-marked against the official mark scheme, with the student's own corrections brought to the next session. Families who treat the hour as the whole intervention get a fraction of the result families who treat it as a weekly planning meeting get.

04

What IGCSE tuition costs in Dubai, cheapest tier first

Start at the bottom of the market rather than the top, because that is where most families start looking. Budget online tutoring, commonly delivered by university students, advertises from around AED 33 to AED 65 an hour, with Tutopiya publishing from AED 33 to AED 52 and EdFlik from AED 45 to AED 65. That tier can be genuinely useful for homework supervision and for keeping a Year 9 student moving. It is a poor fit for an Extended-tier paper eight weeks out, because the thing you are buying at that point is examination judgement rather than subject knowledge.

The next tier up is where most IGCSE tutoring actually happens: a qualified subject tutor working online at AED 150 to AED 300 an hour, with Unitors publishing IGCSE from AED 150 and IB from AED 200. Above that, subject specialists in IB, IGCSE and A Level are quoted from AED 200 to AED 450 and beyond, with TutorChase publishing AED 270. In-home one-to-one visits run AED 180 to AED 500 once travel is included, and a premium named tutor has been advertised at AED 650 an hour. Monthly packages in this market include AED 799 for eight online sessions and AED 1,599 to AED 1,799 for four two-hour home visits.

Every figure in those two paragraphs belongs to the company or rate guide that published it, read in October 2026. They are not IB Gram's prices, and we do not publish an hourly list on these pages, because the right number depends on the subject, the level and how many weeks remain. What a parent should take away is the shape of the market: the step from AED 65 to AED 200 buys subject depth, and the step from AED 200 online to AED 400 in-home mostly buys a car journey down Al Qudra Road.

A visiting tutor off Al Qudra Road against an online specialist

The case for a tutor in the room is real and worth stating before the argument against it. Some students focus better with an adult physically present, and a reluctant fifteen-year-old does treat a laptop differently from a person sitting at the same table. Compass-and-ruler constructions, diagram labelling and handwriting legibility are all easier to correct when someone can point at the page. For a student who has to be kept at the desk as much as taught, physical presence does part of the work.

The case against, in this neighbourhood specifically, is traffic and supply. A tutor travelling to The Sustainable City is on Al Qudra Road or the E311 in the late afternoon, and that journey is unpredictable in exactly the hours a Year 11 student should be working. The cost appears as a higher hourly rate, a two-hour minimum, or a cancelled session. More importantly it narrows the choice of tutor to those willing to make the drive, and in Extended-tier maths and the separate sciences that pool is thin in this part of Dubai.

Our position is not neutral and should not be read as such. IB Gram delivers online one-to-one only and does not offer home visits anywhere in the UAE. The argument we would make to a parent here is that the model buys subject match instead of proximity: a Year 11 student entered for Cambridge 0625 gets a tutor who teaches 0625, rather than a generalist who happens to live fifteen minutes away. The table compares models rather than companies, with the travel column written for this community.

Coursework, practicals and the line a tutor must not cross

  • Coursework support means teaching and feedback, never text written for the student
  • We will not supply, source or edit to completion any assessed piece
  • Practical skills in international specifications are examined on a written paper
  • Feedback given is recorded, so a school can see what support was provided

Several IGCSE subjects carry non-examination assessment, and a few in this market will offer to do it for your child. That offer should be refused every time. Work submitted under a board's coursework rules must be the student's own, authenticated by the school, and a submission that is not is a malpractice matter with consequences that land on the candidate rather than on whoever was paid. One operation in this market sells completed Internal Assessments for a different qualification at AED 3,750; the same logic and the same risk apply to IGCSE coursework.

The boundary is workable once it is said out loud. A tutor may teach the content a coursework task draws on, explain the assessment criteria, question whether a method is reproducible, point out an unsupported conclusion, and comment on writing the student produced. A tutor may not write any part of the submission, redraft a paragraph into final form, select and carry out the investigation, or provide a model to be edited. Our test is whether a sentence in the final submission exists because a tutor wrote it.

Practical science assessment at IGCSE is examined on paper in both boards' international specifications, which is good news for an online tutor and worth understanding properly. What is assessed is the ability to read apparatus diagrams, identify variables, criticise a method, and handle results tables and graphs — all of which can be taught and practised over a screen using the boards' own past papers. What cannot be replicated online is laboratory handling, and that is the school's job rather than a tutor's.

KHDA, the mandatory subjects and what equivalency actually requires

Dubai private schools are regulated by the Knowledge and Human Development Authority, which u.ae describes as responsible for enhancing and overseeing the quality of private education in the emirate. The scale is worth knowing: 227 private schools and 387,441 students in 2024-25 across 17 curricula, with the UK curriculum at 37% of enrolment. KHDA confirmed in May 2026 that private school fees would not rise for the following academic year, under Dubai's second economic incentives package.

Two regulator facts change an IGCSE family's planning. First, KHDA requires Arabic, Islamic Education and Social Studies in Dubai private schools whatever the licensed curriculum, with separate classes for Arab and non-Arab students and combined classes prohibited; instructional time is calculated on a 40-minute lesson unit. Those subjects sit on the report alongside IGCSEs. Second, for UAE university plans, Ministry of Education equivalency on the British track requires five accredited GCSE or IGCSE subjects at no less than grade E or 3, excluding Arabic and Islamic Education from that count, plus one Advanced Level subject at grade E or two Advanced Subsidiary Level subjects at the same grade.

That five-subject figure is worth stating precisely because a ranking competitor publishes six. Equivalency and attestation are processes your family manages with the Ministry, not services a tutoring company performs or guarantees, and nobody should imply that tutoring is required for them. On the tutoring side, the honest statement is the narrow one: IB Gram holds no KHDA permit, no ADEK or Ministry approval, no Cambridge or Pearson partnership and no UAE office. An individual tutoring privately in the UAE needs a MoHRE private tuition work permit, introduced by Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023 and issued free of charge for two years.

Ramadan, the Gulf week and protecting a Year 11 slot

  • Monday to Friday week with a half-day Friday; weekends are Saturday and Sunday
  • 3.30pm starts work for students at school inside the community
  • 5.30pm is the earliest honest start for an outbound Dubailand school run
  • Ramadan sessions move after Iftar with the same tutor retained

A revision plan that ignores the UAE calendar is abandoned by week three. The working week runs Monday to Friday with a half-day Friday, which leaves Saturday and Sunday as the only full days and also as the days families travel and host. During Ramadan, school hours shorten and the productive study window moves to the evening; a session after Iftar often works better than any afternoon slot, and scheduling against a fasting teenager's afternoon is a waste of an hour.

Position in the community changes what is possible. A student at school inside The Sustainable City is home early enough for a 3.30pm or 4pm session, which is the band where concentration is still available. A student travelling to Motor City, Dubai Sports City or Arabian Ranches is realistically not available until 5.30pm, and in a sports-heavy household that slot competes with training four evenings a week. The Year 11 families who succeed are the ones who decide in September which evening belongs to tutoring and then defend it.

We hold slots in Gulf Standard Time, move them to post-Iftar timing through Ramadan without changing tutor, and pause blocks during a school's own examination fortnight when adding sessions produces fatigue rather than marks. What we will not do is shuffle a student between tutors to keep a diary full. For a Year 11 student eight weeks from a series, continuity with one tutor who already knows which questions go wrong is worth more than a perfectly packed calendar.

Where we tutor

Communities around The Sustainable City and what each changes about timing

The Sustainable City sits on Al Qudra Road between Dubai Investments Park and the Dubailand villa communities. These are the neighbourhoods this community shares schools, carpools and tutor recommendations with, and the practical difference each one makes to when a session can start.

The Sustainable City

Around five hundred villas in five clusters with car-free inner streets and a school inside the gates. Children at that school are home early, which makes the late-afternoon hours genuinely usable for Year 10 and Year 11 students.

Dubai Investments Park

Across Al Qudra Road, with its own school provision and a large resident workforce employed locally. Parents here are more often home by six, which makes a jointly attended session with a Year 11 student practical rather than aspirational.

Mudon

Villa community whose secondary school runs go outward to Motor City and Arabian Ranches. A 5.30pm start is the first realistic one in term time, and Year 11 families here are the most likely to want two subjects in one week.

Remraam

Apartment-led and close enough to share carpools with this community. Households here often ask for a shared evening covering two siblings in different year groups, which online scheduling handles without any travel charge.

Arabian Ranches 3

Newer phases with a fast-growing Year 9 to Year 11 cohort. The drive up from here is the reason visiting tutors quote a premium, and the reason Extended-tier maths demand here outstrips local supply.

Motor City and Dubai Sports City

The nearest dense British-curriculum school cluster. Students here frequently train four evenings a week, so the hardest part of a Year 11 plan is protecting the slot rather than choosing the subject.

Town Square and DAMAC Hills

Further along the Dubailand corridor with their own schools and a strong informal recommendation network. Mid-year moves between these communities and The Sustainable City generate regular curriculum transition work.

School ecosystem

IB and Cambridge school communities we support in The Sustainable City

Inside the community and Dubai Investments Park

The immediate set, where a family can reach both an IB continuum school and British-curriculum provision without leaving a short radius. Several of these schools enter Cambridge syllabuses while others use Pearson Edexcel, which is why confirming your child's board before booking a tutor genuinely matters here.

From first enquiry to a tutor who fits

  1. 01

Name the board and the series

The first useful message tells us Cambridge or Pearson Edexcel, the subject, the tier if one applies, and which series your child is entered for. If you do not know the board, the school's examinations officer does, and finding out before the first session saves an hour of the wrong past papers.

  2. 02

    A short diagnostic conversation

Fifteen minutes on what has been sat, what the last marked paper scored, which topics are avoided and what the school has predicted. Specific answers produce a specific first session. This is also where we say plainly whether the time remaining supports the grade you are aiming at.

  3. 03

A free trial lesson on a real topic

Run by the tutor who would continue, on a genuine weakness rather than a demonstration topic, ending with that tutor naming what they would tackle first and why. If the match is wrong, tell us and we will propose a different tutor rather than defend the first one.

  4. 04

A written plan built backwards from a date

You receive the sequence of sessions, the between-session work, and the date it is all counted back from, whether that is the mock block or the series. It is specific enough to disagree with, which is the point; a plan nobody can challenge is a plan nobody owns.

  5. 05

Weekly sessions and a note each time

Every session ends with a written note: covered, fixed, still weak, owed before next week. Progress shows up as the same question type stopping going wrong, not as a satisfaction score. If four weeks pass without that happening, we change the method or the tutor.

Why families choose us

What UAE parents tell us matters most

Matched to a syllabus code, not a subject name

Cambridge 0580 and Pearson 4MA1 are different papers with different conventions, and past papers do not transfer between them. Because delivery is online, your child is matched to someone who teaches their specific code rather than to whoever is nearby.

The calendar drives the plan

Sessions are sequenced from the school's mock block, coursework deadlines and the board's series rather than from a generic revision schedule. For a Year 11 student that is the difference between arriving before predicted grades are set and arriving after.

Rates quoted with their source

Every AED figure on this page belongs to the company or rate guide that published it, dated to when it was read. We publish no invented statistics, no self-asserted ratings and no price we have not quoted you for your child's actual subject.

A stated line on coursework

Tutors teach, question and critique the student's own work. They do not write, redraft to completion or supply assessed material, and we will not source it. Feedback is recorded in case the school asks what external support was received.

Honest scoping before a booking

If the weeks remaining do not support the grade you want, we say so and discuss the November series as a planned route instead of a failure. A booking taken on an unachievable target damages the student more than it helps the business.

No regulatory claims

IB Gram holds no KHDA permit, no Ministry or ADEK approval, no Cambridge or Pearson partnership and no UAE office. The regulators are explained on this page because knowing what each governs helps you read your child's school, not to borrow authority.

Questions parents ask

IB and IGCSE tutoring in The Sustainable City: your questions answered

When are IGCSE exams held for a student at school in Dubai?+

Cambridge International examines IGCSE in a June series and a November series, and its February and March series is offered to India only, so it is not open to a candidate sitting in Dubai. Pearson Edexcel International GCSE runs in May and June and again in November. Both boards split centres into administrative zones with separate timetable versions, so your child's exact dates come from the school rather than from a general timetable. Treat the school's published timetable as the authority and the board's live timetable page as the backup.

How do we find out whether our child sits Cambridge or Edexcel IGCSE?+

Ask the school's examinations officer, not the subject teacher, and ask for the syllabus code rather than the subject name. A Cambridge mathematics entry will be 0580; the Pearson equivalent is 4MA1. The codes matter because the papers, the tiering and in some subjects the option of modular assessment differ between the boards, and past papers are not interchangeable. Booking a tutor without knowing the code risks spending the first sessions on the wrong question style, which is an expensive way to discover an administrative detail.

What is the difference between Core and Extended in a Cambridge subject?+

Core and Extended are different papers covering different amounts of the syllabus, with different grade ceilings: Core caps the achievable grade, while Extended reaches the top grades but contains harder content. The choice is an entry decision made by the school ahead of the board's entry deadline, not something adjustable in the examination hall. In practice, Year 10 internal results are where a realistic view is formed. If a family wants to keep Extended open in a subject, the work has to happen in Year 10 rather than in the final terms.

Will an IGCSE tutor come to our home in The Sustainable City?+

No. IB Gram runs no home visits anywhere in the UAE, and no tutor will arrive at an address in this community. Lessons are one-to-one and live over video, with past-paper questions shared on screen and a recording available on request. Home tutoring is a service we offer only in India. The benefit here is that a Year 11 student entered for a specific syllabus code gets a tutor who teaches that code, instead of whichever generalist is willing to drive down Al Qudra Road at five in the afternoon.

How much does an IGCSE tutor cost in Dubai at the cheaper end?+

Published budget rates in this market start at around AED 33 to AED 65 an hour, with Tutopiya advertising from AED 33 to AED 52 and EdFlik from AED 45 to AED 65, usually delivered by university students. That tier suits homework supervision rather than examination judgement. Qualified subject tutors working online sit at AED 150 to AED 300, with Unitors publishing IGCSE from AED 150. Those are market figures read in October 2026, not our prices; we quote after a free trial against your child's actual subject, board and tier.

Is it worth entering the November series if a June grade disappoints?+

Sometimes, and the decision is time-pressured because a November entry closes months before the papers. It is usually worth it when the gap is one or two marks' worth of technique in a subject that a post-16 route specifically requires, and rarely worth it when the student has moved on to a programme that does not need that grade. Pearson's published history gives a sense of timing: November 2025 results reached students on 22 January 2026. Ask the school about entry deadlines the week results arrive, not a month later.

How are science practicals assessed if our child only studies online with a tutor?+

In both boards' international IGCSE specifications, practical skills are assessed on a written paper rather than in a laboratory. What that paper tests — reading apparatus diagrams, identifying independent and controlled variables, criticising a method, handling results tables and plotting graphs — can be taught and practised over a screen using the boards' own past papers. Actual laboratory handling remains the school's responsibility. So an online tutor can genuinely prepare a student for the practical paper, which is the component the grade depends on.

My son is in Year 10 and coasting. Is it too early for tutoring?+

It is the cheapest time to start. Year 10 is where IGCSE content is met for the first time, where coursework components begin in several subjects, and where internal results feed tier and entry decisions for Year 11. Fixing algebraic fluency or calculation layout before it meets examination questions costs a fraction of unpicking it under deadline pressure a year later. One weekly session through Year 10, sequenced against the school's topic order, usually removes the need for an intensive block in the final terms.

How many subjects should we tutor at once for a Year 11 student?+

One, in most cases, and two only where there is a real reason. A Year 11 student already has school, coursework, the mandatory UAE subjects and usually sport; adding three weekly tutoring hours produces fatigue and a student who prepares for nothing properly. The better approach is to identify the subject where the grade gap costs the most for the post-16 route being targeted, fix that, and then reassess. We would rather start at one session a week and increase it when a diagnosis justifies it.

Are Arabic and Islamic Education included in the five IGCSE subjects the Ministry counts?+

No, and the rule is specific enough to be worth stating. Ministry of Education equivalency on the British track requires five accredited GCSE or IGCSE subjects at no less than grade E or grade 3, and Arabic and Islamic education are not included among those five. A separate requirement covers Advanced Level: one subject at grade E or two Advanced Subsidiary Level subjects at the same grade. One ranking competitor publishes a six-subject requirement, which is wrong. Verify current rules on moe.gov.ae, because equivalency is a process your family manages rather than a service we perform.

Can sessions move during Ramadan without losing the tutor?+

Yes, and we recommend planning for it rather than reacting to it. School hours shorten during Ramadan and the productive study window moves to the evening, so a post-Iftar session is often the most useful hour of the day for a fasting teenager. The slot moves and the tutor stays, because continuity with someone who already knows which questions go wrong is worth more than a tidy calendar. The same applies to a school's own examination fortnight, when pausing usually serves a student better than adding sessions.

What if our child needs a subject you do not cover well?+

We will say so rather than fill the slot. Coverage is strong in mathematics, the three separate sciences, English Language, English as a Second Language, Business Studies, Economics, Computer Science and ICT across both boards. It thins in some modern foreign languages and in a few minority subjects, and in those cases we tell you what we can offer, how long a match would take, and when availability is likely. A tutor who is a year out of date on a specification is worse for a Year 11 student than a clear no.

Does a tutor need a UAE licence, and can we verify it?+

An individual providing private tuition in the UAE needs a MoHRE private tuition work permit, introduced by Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023 and granted free of charge for two years. Eligible applicants include registered school teachers, government and private-sector employees, unemployed residents, university students and students aged 15 to 18. Tutoring without one carries fines and penalties under the applicable laws, though no fine schedule is published, so be sceptical of any specific figure quoted online. Ask a tutor directly, and ask any UAE agency how it verifies permits.

How quickly can a first session happen after we get in touch?+

For mainstream subjects on either board, usually within a few days: a short diagnostic conversation, then a free trial lesson with the tutor who would continue, then a written plan. Niche subjects and unusual tier combinations take longer, and we will tell you how long rather than book a placeholder. If the deadline is close enough that waiting matters, say so in the first message, because that changes which tutors we approach and in what order.

Why should we believe a page like this rather than a tutoring site with reviews?+

Judge it on whether the claims are checkable. Every AED figure here names who published it and when it was read. The series information comes from Cambridge's and Pearson's own timetable pages. The equivalency rule is quoted at five subjects because that is what the published source says. We publish no star rating, no satisfaction percentage and no improvement statistic, because figures without a sample size, a date and a method are marketing. Several competitors in this market publish self-asserted ratings that differ from their own page text.

Tell us the board, the subject and the date

If your child is in Year 10 or Year 11 in or around The Sustainable City, the most useful first message names three things: Cambridge or Pearson Edexcel, the subject and tier, and the date everything is counted back from. We will arrange a free trial lesson with the tutor who would actually teach, then send a short written plan built backwards from that date. Lessons are one-to-one and live over video to this community, timed to Gulf Standard Time, with no home visits anywhere in the UAE. If the weeks remaining do not support the grade you are aiming at, we will say so before you book anything.
