IGCSE Home Tutor in Dubai Hills Estate

Hiring an IGCSE home tutor in Dubai Hills Estate starts with a question most families cannot answer on the first phone call: which board was my child entered for. Cambridge 0580 and Pearson Edexcel 4MA1 are the same subject with different papers, different tiers and different practical routes, and revising for the wrong one wastes a term. This page settles that first, compares Dubai Hills Estate with Motor City and Town Square, prices the market monthly rather than hourly, and states plainly that IB Gram delivers one-to-one over live video.

IB & IGCSE in Dubai Hills Estate

Same subject, two boards, and the question nobody asks first

A parent in Dubai Hills Estate who decides their Year 10 child needs IGCSE help usually begins by searching for the subject. Maths tutor. Physics tutor. Science tutor. That is one level too coarse, because the two dominant boards in Dubai assess the same subjects through different papers with different tiering rules and different practical arrangements. Cambridge IGCSE Mathematics 0580 splits into a Core route sitting Papers 1 and 3 with a grade ceiling, and an Extended route sitting Papers 2 and 4. Pearson Edexcel International GCSE Mathematics A, syllabus 4MA1, is tiered differently and papered differently again.

The consequence is practical rather than pedantic. A student revising Cambridge Extended past papers for an Edexcel entry is practising question styles they will not meet, and a tutor who has only taught one board will hand them exactly that. Before anything else happens, the board and the tier have to be confirmed from the school, in writing, for each subject separately, because a single student can be entered with two different boards across their nine subjects. Schools in this corridor do mix them.

This page is built as a comparison because that is what actually helps at this stage. Cambridge against Pearson Edexcel on the papers that matter. Core against Extended on the grade a tier can actually reach. Dubai Hills Estate against Motor City and Town Square on what each community's school mix does to a tutoring plan. The in-home market against online delivery on cost, logistics and subject match. Each comparison is a table, because five of the six competitor pages in this market carry no table at all and the one that does carries eleven data rows.

The home-tutoring part of the question deserves a straight answer. In-home one-to-one tutoring in Dubai is real and widely sold, published at roughly AED 180 to 350 an hour by Bestimate's Tutoring Cost Dubai 2026 rate table, with independent home tutors quoted up to AED 500 once travel is priced in. Monthly in-home arrangements of AED 1,599 to 1,799 for four two-hour visits circulate here. IB Gram does not sell that: we do not send tutors to homes anywhere in the UAE, because home visits are a service we offer only in India. What we deliver to Dubai Hills Estate is one-to-one tuition over live video on Gulf Standard Time.

The last thing to say before the tables start is what the two IGCSE years are actually for. Nine or ten subjects, two years, one external examination series, and a set of grades that will decide both the sixth-form route and, eventually, the Ministry of Education equivalency file. That equivalency rule is the single most commonly misreported fact in this market, and one page ranking for these searches publishes the wrong subject count. It is set out correctly, with its source, further down.

  • Ministry equivalency needs five IGCSE subjects at no less than E or grade 3
  • Arabic and Islamic education are excluded from that five-subject count
IB programmes

Every IB programme stage, mapped to UAE school years

IGCSE is a two-year block inside a longer route, and the tutoring that works differs sharply by where a student sits in it. These are the four stages families in Dubai Hills Estate ask about, with what each one actually needs.

KS3Ages 11-14 · Years 7-9

Key Stage 3, Years 7 to 9

The years before any syllabus code exists, and the years that decide which tier a student is entered for. Schools make Core or Extended and Foundation or Higher decisions on Year 9 evidence, which means a Year 9 student working below their ceiling can be entered on a route with a capped grade before anyone has discussed it. Useful tutoring here is narrow and arithmetic-heavy: algebraic fluency, fractions and ratio, and written explanation in science.

In Dubai Hills Estate the Year 9 option block is the live decision, and it is taken early. Campuses in the Al Khail corridor set their option deadlines in the spring of Year 9, so a family that waits for the first Year 10 report to act has already missed the point at which the tier was chosen.

Y10Ages 14-15 · Year 10

IGCSE Year 10

The year content is taught and nothing external is examined, which is why it is the year tutoring is skipped and the year it works best. A Year 10 student who closes an algebra gap has two years of compounding benefit; the same gap closed in February of Year 11 costs twice the hours for half the result. Year 10 is also when a tier change is still administratively straightforward, before entry deadlines bind.

Year 10 requests from Dubai Hills Estate cluster in January, after the first full set of internal assessments. That is reasonable timing and it is still later than ideal: the useful trigger is the Year 9 tier decision, not the first Year 10 report card, and very few families act on it.

Y11Ages 15-16 · Year 11

IGCSE Year 11 and the examination series

Nine or ten subjects reaching an external series at once. The work shifts from content to triage: which subjects are within a grade of a threshold, which papers are being lost to timing rather than knowledge, and which practical or alternative-to-practical components have never been practised. Spreading tutoring thinly across every subject in Year 11 is the commonest and most expensive mistake available.

UAE students sit the June series in most schools and the November series where a resit or an early entry applies. Cambridge allocates every examination centre to one of six administrative zones and states that using the wrong zone timetable is the centre's risk, so the only timetable worth revising against is the one your school confirms.

POST16Ages 16-19 · Years 12-13

The route after IGCSE: A Level or IB Diploma

IGCSE grades are the entry evidence for both routes, and the thresholds differ sharply by subject. A student targeting Higher Level Mathematics Analysis and Approaches in the Diploma, or A Level Mathematics, generally needs a strong Extended or Higher tier grade rather than a comfortable one. Planning the IGCSE tier against the intended sixth-form subject is a Year 9 conversation that usually happens in Year 11.

Dubai Hills Estate families can reach both routes within a short drive, with British campuses and IB continuum schools in the same corridor. That makes the post-16 decision genuinely open rather than determined by location, and it makes the IGCSE grade profile the thing that decides it.

Subject coverage

IB and IGCSE subjects we tutor

Syllabus codes matter more than subject names here, so each subject below carries the Cambridge and Pearson references we are most often asked about. Exactly one syllabus code appeared across the entire competitor area cluster we audited.

Mathematics

Cambridge 0580 Core and Extended · Pearson 4MA1

Cambridge 0580 Core sits Papers 1 and 3 with a capped grade range; Extended sits Papers 2 and 4. Pearson International GCSE Mathematics A, 4MA1, papers the subject differently again. Marks go missing in algebraic manipulation and in multi-step problems where the method mark is lost before the final answer is reached.

International Mathematics

Cambridge 0607

A distinct syllabus from 0580 with a graphical-calculator expectation and an investigation component, used by schools running an IB-facing route. Students moved between 0580 and 0607 mid-course lose time to the calculator conventions rather than to the mathematics.

Additional Mathematics

Cambridge 0606

Taken alongside or after Extended maths by students heading for A Level Mathematics or Higher Level Analysis and Approaches. It front-loads calculus and trigonometry, and it exposes any weakness in algebraic fluency immediately rather than gradually.

Physics

Cambridge 0625 · Pearson 4PH1

Cambridge 0625 runs Core and Extended theory papers plus either Paper 5, a practical test, or Paper 6, the alternative to practical. Pearson 4PH1 assesses practical skills inside the written papers instead. Which route your school uses changes a term of preparation, and students lose marks in electricity and in graph gradient work.

Chemistry

Cambridge 0620 · Pearson 4CH1

Mole calculations, ionic equations and organic families carry most of the marks that separate grades. The practical component follows the same Paper 5 or Paper 6 split as physics in the Cambridge route, and the alternative to practical is the component students have least experience of.

Biology

Cambridge 0610 · Pearson 4BI1

Terminology precision decides more marks than breadth of knowledge. Students lose marks writing approximately correct biology in imprecise words, and extended-response questions reward a structured answer over a fuller one.

Co-ordinated Sciences

Cambridge 0654

A double award covering biology, chemistry and physics in two IGCSE grades rather than three separate subjects. It is a legitimate route rather than an easier one, and the content compression means a tutor has to know which parts of each single-subject syllabus are out of scope.

English as a First Language

Cambridge 0500 · Pearson 4EA1

Directed writing and reading response, where marks follow structure and purpose rather than vocabulary. The commonest failure is a well-written answer to a slightly different question, and that is a reading-the-task problem rather than a writing problem.

Economics and Business Studies

Cambridge 0455 and 0450

Definition recall is the floor; application to the specific case in the question is where the marks are. Students who revise terminology and not application plateau and cannot see why, because their content knowledge is genuinely sound.

Computer Science

Cambridge 0478

Split between theory and problem solving with pseudocode. Students comfortable with a programming language often score below their ability because the syllabus pseudocode conventions are specific and are marked strictly.

How sessions run

Tutoring formats built around UAE school timetables

Three ways IGCSE support is structured, chosen by which year the student is in. All three are one-to-one over live video, with the student's own paper visible on screen.

Year 10 single-subject work

A weekly sixty-minute slot on one subject, closing the specific gap that the tier decision exposed. This is the cheapest useful tutoring in the whole IGCSE route because the benefit compounds across two years and because a tier change is still administratively simple at this stage. Content is paced to the school's own scheme of work rather than ahead of it, so the student is never being taught two versions of the same topic in the same week.

  • One subject, one board, one tier for the term
  • Paced to the school's scheme of work, not ahead of it
  • Tier suitability reviewed with evidence before entries close
  • Written feedback after each session naming the next task

Year 11 triage before the series

A short block that starts by deciding where the hours go rather than by teaching. Full papers in two or three subjects, marked against the published scheme, then a ranked list: which subject is within one grade of a threshold, which marks are being lost to timing, which practical or alternative-to-practical paper has never been sat. Spreading hours evenly across nine subjects is how Year 11 budgets disappear without a grade moving.

  • Starts with marked full papers, not with revision notes
  • Hours allocated by proximity to a grade threshold
  • Practical and alternative-to-practical papers practised explicitly
  • New content stops two weeks before the series by design

Board transfer and mid-year arrivals

For students moving between Cambridge and Pearson, between Core and Extended, or into a Dubai school mid-course from another system. The first work is never content: it is the new board's paper structure, command vocabulary and mark-scheme logic, because a student who does not know how they are being marked cannot show what they know. That takes a handful of sessions and saves a term.

  • New board's paper structure taught before any content
  • Subject-by-subject gap list produced in the first fortnight
  • Past papers drawn from the correct board and tier only
  • Bounded block rather than an open-ended commitment

What IB and IGCSE study actually looks like in Dubai Hills Estate

01

What IGCSE home tutoring in Dubai Hills Estate costs, and what we deliver instead

The direct answer, before anything else. In-home one-to-one tutoring in Dubai is published at roughly AED 180 to 350 an hour by Bestimate's Tutoring Cost Dubai 2026 rate table, independent home tutors are quoted in the AED 200 to 500 band once travel is included, and monthly in-home arrangements of AED 1,599 to 1,799 for four two-hour visits appear in this market. Those are the published figures of the organisations that quoted them. IB Gram does not send tutors to homes anywhere in the UAE; home visits are a service we offer only in India.

What reaches Dubai Hills Estate instead is one-to-one tuition over live video, scheduled on Gulf Standard Time, matched on the board and the tier rather than on the subject label. The reason that matters more for IGCSE than for most things is that IGCSE is a nine-subject problem with two boards running through it. A tutor who knows Cambridge 0620 Paper 6 inside out is an asset for a student entered for it and close to useless for a student sitting Pearson 4CH1, where practical skills are assessed inside the written papers instead.

Dubai Hills Estate families are better placed than most to test the proximity argument, because the British campuses are a few minutes away and the resident population is large. What we see is that IGCSE tutor supply here is genuinely better than for Diploma subjects, so the local argument is stronger at this level than at the next one. It still falls apart at the specific end: a student needing Cambridge 0606 Additional Mathematics, or 0478 Computer Science pseudocode, or the alternative-to-practical paper taught properly, is choosing from a handful of people rather than a market.

So treat the in-home decision as a decision about presence rather than about quality. A Year 10 student who will not open a book without an adult in the room is a genuine case for in-home tutoring, and the market rates above tell you what it costs. A Year 11 student who needs four weeks of Paper 6 technique from somebody who has marked it needs the right person, and the right person may not live in Dubai at all.

02

Cambridge or Pearson Edexcel: the same subject, different papers

This is the first question and almost nobody asks it first. Both boards are widely used in Dubai, often inside the same school for different subjects, and they paper the same content differently enough that revision material is not interchangeable. The table sets out the comparison for the subjects we are asked about most. Treat it as a guide to what to confirm rather than as a substitute for confirming it, because syllabus structures are revised between cycles and the authoritative version sits on the board's own site.

The science practical arrangement is the most consequential difference and the one families discover latest. In the Cambridge route a school chooses between Paper 5, a practical test sat in a laboratory, and Paper 6, the alternative to practical, which is a written paper about experimental method. Those require completely different preparation. Pearson's International GCSE sciences assess practical skills inside the written papers instead, with no separate practical component. A student who has spent six weeks preparing for an alternative-to-practical paper they are not sitting has lost six weeks.

Mathematics is the second place the boards diverge in a way that changes tutoring. Cambridge 0580 runs Core and Extended as distinct routes with distinct papers and a different grade range on each. Cambridge 0607 International Mathematics is a separate syllabus again, with a graphical-calculator expectation and an investigation component, used by schools pointing students towards the IB. Pearson International GCSE Mathematics A, 4MA1, is structured differently from both. Three plausible maths syllabuses in one corridor is why the first filter has to be the code.

One rule about materials, since this is where families most often get it wrong. Cambridge and Pearson syllabus documents, past papers and mark schemes are the boards' copyright. We reference them, cite them and work from the student's own legitimately obtained copies through the school or the board's site. We do not reproduce or distribute them, and a tutoring service offering a download pack of past papers is distributing material it does not own. The official route is always the school or the board.

Core or Extended: the tier decision that caps a grade

Tiering is the part of IGCSE that surprises parents most, because it decides a maximum before the examination is sat. On the Cambridge route a student entered for the Core papers in a tiered subject is working towards a restricted grade range, while the Extended papers reach the full range. The decision is made by the school on the evidence available, usually in Year 9 or early Year 10, and it is made for sensible reasons: a student entered above their working level loses marks across the whole paper rather than gaining them at the top.

The problem is timing rather than principle. Tier decisions get made on Year 9 evidence and entries are confirmed months before the series, so a student who improves substantially during Year 10 can be sitting a capped paper on the strength of how they looked eighteen months earlier. Changing it is usually possible before the entry deadline and usually impossible after, which makes the entry deadline the date to know. Pearson's International GCSE November 2026 series, as a worked example of the gap, ran its papers from late October to 19 November 2026 against an entry deadline that had closed months earlier, and Cambridge's June series works to the same geometry.

The honest counter-argument deserves equal space. A student moved up a tier to reach a higher ceiling and then unable to access the harder paper does worse, not better, and the resulting grade can sit below what the lower tier would have produced comfortably. The right conversation is evidence-based: two or three full papers from the higher tier under timing, marked against the published scheme, and a decision taken on the marks rather than on ambition. A tutor can produce that evidence inside a month. Only the school can change the entry.

The tier also interacts with the sixth-form plan, which is the part most often missed. A student targeting A Level Mathematics or Higher Level Analysis and Approaches in the Diploma needs a strong grade from the higher tier rather than a comfortable one from the lower, because the next course assumes content the lower tier does not cover in the same depth. Deciding the IGCSE tier without naming the intended post-16 subjects is deciding it with half the information.

Dubai Hills Estate, Motor City and Town Square: three IGCSE shortlists

The comparison that actually changes an IGCSE tutoring plan is school mix rather than drive time, because school mix determines board mix and board mix determines which tutor is useful. Dubai Hills Estate sits between two quite different communities in this respect. Motor City and Dubai Sports City are strongly British-curriculum and IGCSE-weighted. Town Square and Mudon are young and primary-heavy, with IGCSE demand still forming. Dubai Hills Estate carries both British and IB provision within minutes, which makes it the most mixed of the three.

That mixing has a direct consequence for families with more than one child. In Dubai Hills Estate it is entirely normal for siblings at two different campuses to be entered with two different boards, and for a single student to be entered with two boards across their own nine subjects. A parent who has learned the Cambridge system through an older child will apply it confidently to a younger one sitting Pearson papers, and the revision will be subtly and expensively wrong. That is the most common avoidable error this page can prevent.

Motor City is the one community in this comparison where hiring locally sometimes genuinely works, for a structural reason: the concentration of British campuses has produced a deeper local pool of IGCSE subject tutors than the Diploma equivalent anywhere in Dubai. Even there it thins at the specific end. Additional Mathematics 0606, Computer Science 0478 pseudocode and the alternative-to-practical papers are the three requests that fall outside local supply most often, in every community in this table.

Town Square and Mudon are at the opposite end, with the advantage that comes with it. Families planning two or three years ahead rather than reacting to a Year 11 report can have the tier conversation when it is still a conversation. The practical advice for a community at that stage is simple and unglamorous: find out in Year 9 which board each subject will use, and keep the evidence that would support a tier change if one is needed later.

What IGCSE tuition costs in this market, read monthly and cheapest first

Hourly rates are the wrong unit for an IGCSE decision, because the real commitment is nine subjects across two years and the question is how much of the month the tutoring costs. So this table starts at the bottom of the market and works up by monthly figure. At the cheapest end, Bestimate's monthly estimates for a weekly one-hour session run AED 240 to 600, which corresponds to the budget tier where EdFlik advertises from AED 45 to 65 an hour and Tutopiya from AED 33 to 52. Those are real services, usually online, usually taught by university students.

The next band up is where most IGCSE families in this corridor settle. Bestimate's mid estimate for a weekly hour is AED 600 to 1,200 a month, matching an hourly band where Unitors publishes IGCSE tuition from AED 150 and IB from AED 200. A package of AED 799 a month for eight online sessions circulates in this market, which works out cheaper per contact hour than most weekly arrangements and is worth reading carefully for what the eight sessions actually include and whether they expire.

Above that sits specialist and examination-year pricing. Bestimate estimates AED 1,000 to 2,000 and above a month for specialist examination-year support, with hourly rates of AED 200 to 450 and above; TutorChase quotes AED 270 an hour and BartyED's premium named tier reaches AED 650. In-home monthly arrangements of AED 1,599 to 1,799 for four two-hour visits sit in the same range while delivering roughly half the contact hours, because the travel is inside the price. That comparison is the clearest single argument in the whole table.

One piece of context for the budget conversation. KHDA confirmed on 22 May 2026 that there would be no increase in school fees for private schools in Dubai for the 2026-27 academic year, under Dubai's second economic incentives package valued at AED 1.5 billion within a AED 2.5 billion total. IB Gram publishes no rate card: the free trial lesson comes first, with no card details taken, and a figure for the specific subject, board and session length follows. Tutoring is not required for Ministry of Education equivalency, for university admission or for school progression, and any page implying otherwise is inventing urgency.

Five subjects at grade E or 3: the equivalency rule reported wrongly everywhere

This is the fact most worth getting right on an IGCSE page and the one a ranking competitor publishes incorrectly. For the British track, Ministry of Education equivalency requires a student to pass five accredited subjects in GCSE or IGCSE certificates with a grade of no less than E or grade 3, and to submit proof of one accredited subject at Advanced Level with a grade of no less than E, or two accredited subjects at Advanced Subsidiary Level with the same grade. Arabic and Islamic education are not included among the five required subjects.

One competitor page ranking for these searches states that UAE candidates must take six IGCSE subjects. That is wrong, and publishing the correct five-subject rule with its source is a straightforward factual advantage over a page that outranks us. The source here is Gulf Today's July 2026 report of the Ministry's clarification of equivalency requirements for secondary school certificates under US and UK curricula. Read it, then verify your own child's file against the Ministry's own channel, because requirements are revised and only the authority's current page is binding.

For the American track the same clarification sets out different requirements: English proficiency through a score of 5 in the IELTS academic test, 61 in the TOEFL iBT test, or 450 in the reading and writing section of the SAT, and mathematics through at least 450 in the SAT Math test before applying. The article does not mention EmSAT and states no IB points threshold, which is why no IB equivalency figure appears anywhere on this site. We will not publish a number we have not read on a Ministry source.

Two things follow for a family in Dubai Hills Estate. First, equivalency is a documentation process run by the authority, not something a tutoring service performs, guarantees or accelerates, and anyone implying otherwise is misrepresenting a regulatory process. Second, since Arabic and Islamic education sit outside the five-subject count, a student with a thin set of academic IGCSE passes cannot make up the number with them. That is worth knowing in Year 10, when the subject count can still be changed, rather than in the sixth form.

The June and November series, and the deadline that sits months earlier

Exam-session awareness is the largest single gap in this market: searching the competitor pages for a session name returns almost nothing, and not one of them names a registration deadline or a results date. That absence is strange, because the calendar is usually what a parent is trying to reconstruct. Cambridge International runs IGCSE, O Level and International A Level examinations in a June series and a November series, with Primary and Lower Secondary Checkpoint tests in March, May and October.

The administrative detail that catches schools and families alike is zoning. Cambridge allocates every examination centre to one of six administrative zones, states that it is essential to use the correct version of the timetable for your zone, and says it cannot accept responsibility for candidates who miss an examination after using the wrong zone timetable. For a Dubai family, that means the only timetable worth revising against is the one the school confirms for its own centre, not a version found through a search.

Pearson's International GCSE November 2026 series is the cleanest worked example of how far ahead the real deadlines sit, because every date in it is published: papers from late October to 19 November 2026, and the results for the November 2025 series before it reaching students on 22 January 2026. Cambridge's June series has the same geometry, with entries closing in the spring and the exact day set per series and per timetable zone. Entries close months before the first paper. That is the window in which a tier change is possible, and it closes while most families are still thinking about the examination itself.

Pearson Edexcel International GCSE examinations are available in May/June and November each year, with the November 2026 final timetable running from late October to 19 November 2026. June 2026 results went to centres on 19 August 2026 and to students on 20 August 2026, and November 2025 results reached students on 22 January 2026. Pearson publishes provisional timetables ahead of each series, including the next International GCSE November series, so plan against the live official timetable rather than against a restated date that may be revised.

Practicals, coursework and what online delivery actually changes

  • The laboratory work that counts is the school's, under supervision
  • Cambridge schools sit either Paper 5, the practical test, or Paper 6, the alternative
  • Pearson International GCSE sciences assess practical skills inside the written papers
  • Paper 6 is a reasoning paper and the least practised component in the route
  • A document camera or propped phone is required so working is visible

The question every science parent asks about online tuition is whether the practical work suffers, and the answer depends entirely on which practical route the school uses. On the Cambridge route the school chooses between Paper 5, a practical test sat in a laboratory, and Paper 6, the alternative to practical, a written paper about experimental method. Pearson's International GCSE sciences assess practical skills inside the written papers instead. In all three cases the laboratory work that counts happens at school, under supervision, and no tutoring arrangement changes that.

What online sessions do is the part students are worst at, which is the written reasoning around the practical. Reading a results table, identifying the independent and dependent variables from a described method, spotting the control that is missing, calculating a gradient from a graph with awkward axes, and writing a conclusion that stays inside what the data supports. Paper 6 in particular is a reasoning paper rather than a manual-skills paper, and it is the component students have the least practice in because it is slow to mark.

There is a setup requirement and it is worth taking seriously rather than treating as a formality. Science and mathematics marks live in the working, so the tutor has to see the student's page. A document camera, or a phone propped on a stand pointing at the desk, is the difference between a session where the tutor can diagnose an error and a session where the student reads out answers. Fixing that properly in week one is worth more than any amount of platform sophistication.

On coursework and controlled assessment, the boundary is the same as everywhere else and it is worth stating on an IGCSE page as well as a Diploma one. A tutor teaches technique, explains what a mark scheme rewards, and marks practice work against published criteria. No tutor should write the coursework, draft the assignment or complete the work a student must submit as their own, and we decline those requests. Where a school runs internally assessed components, its own guidance on acceptable support is the document to follow.

09

Where IGCSE marks actually go missing, subject by subject

  • Mathematics: method marks lost to unshown working in multi-step questions
  • Physics: electricity, gradients, and questions asking for a relationship
  • Chemistry: moles by recipe, and ionic equations unbalanced for charge
  • Biology: imprecise terminology on answers the student actually knew
  • English: a good answer to a slightly different task than the one set

Across the diagnostic papers we mark for Year 10 and Year 11 students in this corridor, the losses repeat. In mathematics they are method marks, lost because a multi-step solution is presented as a final answer with no working, so a single arithmetic slip costs the whole question rather than one mark. The fix is not more mathematics. It is a habit about setting out working, applied until it is automatic, and it recovers marks in every paper from the week it is taught.

In the sciences the pattern splits by subject. Physics marks go missing in electricity, in graph gradient work and in any question that asks for a relationship rather than a value. Chemistry loses them in mole calculations treated as a recipe and in ionic equations that are not balanced for charge. Biology loses them to imprecise terminology: approximately correct biology written in words that do not match the mark scheme earns nothing, and students find this the hardest loss to accept because they knew the answer.

In English the dominant failure is answering a slightly different question from the one set. Directed writing tasks specify audience, purpose and form, and a well-written response in the wrong form loses structural marks that the quality of the prose cannot recover. That is a reading problem rather than a writing problem, and it responds to five minutes of task analysis before each practice piece more than to any amount of vocabulary work.

In economics, business studies and computer science the pattern is the same shape in different clothing: students revise content and are marked on application. Definition recall is the floor. Marks come from applying a concept to the specific case in front of them, or from using the syllabus pseudocode conventions precisely rather than the programming language they happen to know. Students in these subjects often plateau at a 4 or 5 with genuinely sound knowledge, which is why diagnosing the loss pattern matters more than covering the syllabus again.

Starting from Dubai Hills Estate, and the limits we will state up front

The first message that is genuinely useful contains four things: the year group, the subject, the board and the tier. Without the board a tutor match is a coin toss. Without the tier the past papers are drawn from the wrong set. Without the year group the right structure is unknown, because Year 10 work and Year 11 triage are different services. Most enquiries arrive with the subject and the year group only, and the first conversation is spent finding the other two from the school.

A free trial lesson follows, with the tutor who would actually teach, and no card details are taken beforehand. In the first fortnight a full past paper from the correct board and tier is marked against the published scheme, question by question. For a Year 11 student that marking is also the triage tool: it produces a ranked list of which subjects sit closest to a grade threshold, which is where the hours should go. Spreading hours evenly across nine subjects is the most expensive habit in this market.

Now the limits. Cambridge 0606 Additional Mathematics, 0478 Computer Science pseudocode and alternative-to-practical technique are the three requests that fall outside local supply most often, and there are weekday evening slots in which we cannot field a genuine specialist for them. When that is the case we say so before you pay anything, and the options we offer are a different slot, a weekend morning, a short wait, or a bounded block rather than a weekly commitment. We will not put a generalist into a specialist slot.

The last limit is the one stated throughout. IB Gram does not offer home visits in Dubai or anywhere else in the UAE; that service exists only in India. If physical presence is the requirement, the in-home market is real, the published rates are in the tables above, and the permit question is the due diligence to run: the MoHRE private tuition work permit was introduced by Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023, is granted free of charge for two years, and MoHRE's service page lists a two-working-day completion time.

Where we tutor

Dubai Hills Estate against the communities it is usually compared with

The comparison that matters for IGCSE is not drive time but school mix, because it determines which board a community's children are entered for and therefore which tutor pool is useful. These are the neighbourhoods a Dubai Hills Estate family weighs.

Dubai Hills Estate

Villa and apartment districts including Sidra, Maple, Collective and Mulberry, minutes from the Al Khail campuses. The school mix here is British and IB in roughly equal measure, so both Cambridge and Pearson entries are common and the board question is genuinely open.

Motor City and Dubai Sports City

Strongly British-curriculum and IGCSE-weighted, with GEMS Metropole and Victory Heights among the campuses. Tutor supply here skews towards IGCSE rather than Diploma, which makes it the one community in this comparison where local matching sometimes does work.

Town Square and Mudon

Large, young and primary-heavy, so IGCSE demand is still forming. Families here are usually planning two or three years ahead rather than reacting, which makes the Year 9 tier conversation unusually easy to have on time.

Al Barsha South

The densest cluster of secondary campuses in this part of Dubai, with British and IB provision side by side. Shorter school runs and the same board confusion, because siblings at two campuses here are frequently entered with two different boards.

Al Quoz and Safa

Mixed residential with established British provision and a large apartment population. Parents commuting back from Downtown and Business Bay compress the usable evening, so IGCSE sessions here cluster after 18:00 more than elsewhere.

Sobha Hartland and Mohammed Bin Rashid City

Newer and apartment-dense, served by well-known British campuses. IGCSE demand is rising faster than local tutor supply, and the Year 11 triage request arrives late here more often than in the established communities.

Arabian Ranches and the Dubailand ring

Villa communities fifteen to twenty-five minutes south on a bus loop that adds real time. IGCSE requests arrive with later preferred start times, and the board mix leans Cambridge through the Arabian Ranches campuses.

Nad Al Sheba and Meydan

Low-density villas feeding campuses that draw from across the Al Khail corridor. Families who moved and kept the school produce the longest commutes here, which pushes IGCSE sessions towards weekend mornings.

  • Dubai Heights Academy, Al Barsha South
  • Kings' School Al Barsha
  • Repton Al Barsha
  • Safa British School, Al Quoz
  • GEMS Metropole School, Motor City

How matching works

From first enquiry to a tutor who fits

  1. 01

Send four details, not a form

Year group, subject, board and tier. Those four decide whether a specialist is available, which past papers are the right ones, and whether the correct structure is single-subject teaching or Year 11 triage. If you do not know the board and tier, ask the school in writing; it is the single most useful email a parent sends.

  2. 02

Free trial lesson with the matched tutor

Sixty minutes with the person who would teach, not a consultant. No card details taken beforehand. The student brings a marked piece of recent work, and the session ends with one specific observation about where marks are going rather than a general assessment of effort.

  3. 03

A full paper from the correct board and tier

Marked against the published scheme question by question inside the first fortnight. For a Year 10 student this sets the content plan; for a Year 11 student it is the triage tool that ranks subjects by proximity to a grade threshold. You get the marked script with the loss pattern named.

  4. 04

A written plan, including the tier question

Ordered by marks recoverable rather than by syllabus sequence, with the tier suitability addressed explicitly while the entry deadline is still open. The plan arrives before the second paid session so you can judge or decline it with nothing committed.

  5. 05

Fortnightly review, and an honest stop

The plan is checked against marked work every two weeks rather than against impressions. If the diagnosis was wrong, it changes. If a subject has reached the point where further hours are better spent elsewhere in the nine, we say which subject and why, and move the hours.

Why families choose us

What UAE parents tell us matters most

Matched on syllabus code, not subject name

Cambridge 0620 and Pearson 4CH1 are the same chemistry assessed differently, and a tutor strong in one is not automatically useful for the other. We confirm the code and the tier before matching, which is a question most of this market does not ask on the first call.

The equivalency rule published correctly

Five accredited IGCSE subjects at no less than grade E or grade 3, with Arabic and Islamic education excluded, plus one Advanced Level at E or two Advanced Subsidiary Levels. A page ranking for these searches publishes six subjects. Being right about a checkable fact is the cheapest advantage available.

Calendars quoted with their sources

Cambridge and Pearson series dates on this page come from the boards' own published material with the source named, and we link out rather than restate. Dates get revised, zoning differs by centre, and the only timetable worth revising against is the one your school confirms.

Year 11 hours triaged, not spread

Nine subjects and a fixed budget is an allocation problem before it is a teaching problem. Marked full papers decide where the hours go, which usually means concentrating on two or three subjects rather than touching all nine lightly and moving none of them.

Coursework boundaries stated in writing

A tutor teaches technique, explains what a mark scheme rewards and marks practice against published criteria. No tutor should write the coursework or complete the assignment a student must submit as their own, and we decline those requests when they are made.

Questions parents ask

IB and IGCSE tutoring in Dubai Hills Estate: your questions answered

How do I find out which IGCSE board my child in Dubai Hills Estate is entered for?+

Ask the school in writing, subject by subject, and ask for the syllabus code rather than the board name. Schools in this corridor routinely mix Cambridge and Pearson across subjects, so a single student can sit 0580 mathematics and a Pearson science in the same series. The code is what matters: 0580, 0607 and 4MA1 are three different mathematics syllabuses with different papers and different calculator expectations. Until you have the codes, any tutor match is a guess and any past paper the student practises on may be from the wrong assessment entirely.

Is the alternative to practical paper easier than the practical test?+

It is different rather than easier, and it is the component students practise least. On the Cambridge route a school chooses between Paper 5, a practical test sat in a laboratory, and Paper 6, the alternative to practical, which is a written paper about experimental method. Paper 6 rewards reasoning: identifying variables from a described method, spotting the missing control, reading a results table, calculating a gradient from awkward axes. It is slow to mark, so schools set fewer of them, and the gap is usually invisible until a mock. It responds quickly to focused practice.

Can my child's IGCSE tier still be changed in Year 11?+

Sometimes, and the deadline rather than the school year is what decides it. Entries close well before the papers: a Cambridge June entry closes in the spring, months ahead of the first paper, and the exact date is on the statement of entry the school issues as the centre. Before that deadline a change is usually administratively possible; afterwards it generally is not. What persuades a school is evidence, not ambition, so sit two or three full papers from the higher tier under timing, marked against the published scheme, and take the decision on the marks. A tutor can produce that evidence inside a month.

How many IGCSE subjects does my child actually need for UAE equivalency?+

Five accredited subjects in GCSE or IGCSE certificates at a grade of no less than E or grade 3, plus proof of one accredited subject at Advanced Level at no less than E or two at Advanced Subsidiary Level at the same grade. Arabic and Islamic education are not included among the five. A competitor page ranking for these searches states six, which is wrong. Verify your own file against the Ministry's own channel, because requirements get revised, and treat equivalency as a documentation process run by the authority rather than something a tutoring service performs.

Does in-home IGCSE tutoring in Dubai Hills Estate cost much more than online?+

At the specialist end, yes, and the gap is the travel. Published rates put in-home one-to-one at roughly AED 180 to 350 an hour with independent home tutors quoted up to AED 500 once travel is included, against AED 150 to 300 for a qualified online subject tutor. Monthly in-home arrangements of AED 1,599 to 1,799 for four two-hour visits deliver about half the contact hours of an AED 799 eight-session online package. IB Gram does not offer home visits in the UAE, so this is a comparison of the market rather than of our options.

Is Year 10 or Year 11 the better time to start IGCSE tutoring in this community?+

Year 10, decisively, and most families start in Year 11. A gap closed in Year 10 compounds across two years and can still be used to argue for a tier change before entries close. The same gap closed in February of Year 11 costs roughly twice the hours for half the benefit, because the student is simultaneously preparing eight other subjects. Requests from Dubai Hills Estate cluster in January of Year 10, which is reasonable. The genuinely useful trigger is earlier still: the Year 9 tier decision, which almost nobody acts on.

Can one tutor cover three IGCSE sciences for the same Year 11 student?+

Across Core-level content, often yes. At Extended level in an examination year, usually not well. The three syllabuses diverge enough at the top end, and the practical arrangements differ by board, that a tutor genuinely strong in all three is uncommon. Where the student is sitting Cambridge 0654 Co-ordinated Sciences, a single tutor is much more workable because the content scope is narrower by design. For three separate Extended sciences, the honest answer is that one person will be strong in one and adequate in the others.

What do Cambridge timetable zones mean for a school in Dubai?+

Cambridge allocates every examination centre to one of six administrative zones and publishes a different timetable version for each. Cambridge states that it is essential to use the correct version for your zone and that it cannot accept responsibility for candidates who miss an examination after using the wrong zone timetable. For a family in Dubai Hills Estate the practical consequence is narrow and important: the only timetable worth planning or revising against is the one your child's school confirms for its own centre. A version found through a general search may belong to a different zone.

How far ahead does Pearson publish its International GCSE timetables and results dates?+

Pearson runs May/June and November series each year. June 2026 results went to centres on 19 August 2026 and to students on 20 August 2026, and November 2025 results reached students on 22 January 2026. The November 2026 final timetable ran from late October to 19 November 2026. Pearson also publishes provisional timetables ahead of each series, including the International GCSE November series still to come, which is why any plan should be built against the live official timetable rather than a restated date. Dates can be revised, and the board's own page is the one that binds.

My daughter knows the biology but her marks are low. What is causing that?+

Almost always terminology precision. Biology mark schemes reward specific words, and approximately correct biology written in imprecise language earns nothing, which students find harder to accept than a genuine knowledge gap because they did know the answer. The second cause is structure in extended responses: a focused answer scores above a fuller one that buries the point. Both are visible the moment a full paper is marked against the published scheme question by question, and both respond to a handful of sessions rather than to re-teaching the syllabus.

Should we book tutoring in all nine IGCSE subjects before the series?+

No, and doing it is the most expensive habit in this market. Nine subjects and a fixed budget is an allocation problem first. Sit full papers in the two or three subjects that feel weakest, mark them against the published scheme, and rank the subjects by how close they sit to a grade threshold and by how much of the loss is recoverable in the time left. Concentrating the hours on two or three subjects usually moves two or three grades. Spreading them across nine usually moves none, while costing the same.

Does my child need a laboratory at home for online IGCSE science lessons?+

No. The practical work that counts happens at school, under supervision, whether that is a Cambridge Paper 5 practical test or the practical skills Pearson assesses inside its written papers. What online sessions handle is the reasoning around it, which is where marks are actually lost: variables identified from a described method, missing controls, results tables, gradients from awkward axes, conclusions kept inside the data. What you do need is a document camera or a propped phone so the tutor can see handwritten working, because science marks live in the working.

What time can IGCSE sessions start for a Dubai Hills Estate family with two children at different schools?+

One child, usually around 16:00, because bus runs from the Al Khail campuses often land before 15:40. Two children at different campuses on different buses rarely fits into one weekday evening, and trying to force it produces cancellations rather than sessions. The realistic answer in that household is one weekday slot and one weekend morning. Mandatory Arabic, Islamic Education and Social or Moral Studies also occupy real timetable hours in Dubai private schools, so the number of genuinely usable weekday slots is smaller than a blank calendar suggests.

Can a tutor help with IGCSE coursework without crossing a line?+

Yes, within a boundary that should be stated before any work starts. A tutor can teach the technique a component rewards, explain what the mark scheme is looking for, and mark practice work against published criteria. A tutor must not write the coursework, draft the assignment or complete work the student submits as their own, and we decline those requests. Where a school runs internally assessed components, its own guidance on acceptable support is the document that governs, and it is worth asking for it in writing rather than assuming.

How quickly can an IGCSE tutor start, and what if nobody covers the subject we need?+

For mainstream subjects at either tier, usually within days once the board and code are confirmed. Cambridge 0606 Additional Mathematics, 0478 Computer Science pseudocode and alternative-to-practical technique are the three requests that most often fall outside available supply in a specific weekday evening window. When that happens we say so before you pay anything, and the options are a different slot, a weekend morning, a short wait for a calendar to open, or a bounded block. We will not fill a specialist slot with a generalist and leave you to discover it.
