IB Physics Tutor in Dubai Hills Estate

An IB physics tutor in Dubai Hills Estate is usually hired because a student who did well at IGCSE is suddenly sitting on a 4, and the cause is rarely physics. It is algebra, units, uncertainty and the habit of reading a gradient. This page compares Dubai Hills Estate with the communities either side of it on where physics specialists actually sit, sets out the five themes and the paper weightings, and works through the Higher Level decision. Lessons run one-to-one over live video on Gulf Standard Time.

IB & IGCSE in Dubai Hills Estate

Physics does not get harder at Diploma; the maths inside it does

The most common physics story in this corridor runs like this. A student takes an 8 or a 9 in IGCSE Physics, chooses it at Higher Level because they enjoyed it, and by the second term of the first Diploma year is sitting somewhere between a 3 and a 5 with no obvious explanation. The school says they need to work harder. The student says they understand the lessons. Both are usually telling the truth, and the diagnosis is almost always the same: the physics is fine and the mathematics inside it has outrun them.

Diploma physics asks for algebraic rearrangement as a reflex, for logarithms where IGCSE asked for substitution, for uncertainty propagated through a calculation rather than mentioned at the end, and for a graph treated as a source of a gradient with units rather than as a picture of a trend. None of that is physics content and all of it is assessed inside physics questions. A tutor who responds to a 4 by re-teaching Theme A will produce a student who knows kinematics better and still scores a 4, because the loss was never in the kinematics.

This page compares Dubai Hills Estate with the communities around it, because that is what the brief for this page is, and because the comparison produces an unexpectedly clear result. Dubai Hills Estate is as close as any Dubai villa community gets to the campuses that teach Diploma physics. The resident population is large and well qualified. If a local Physics HL tutor market existed anywhere in the emirate it would exist here. It does not, in any reliable sense, and the reason is arithmetic: there are not many people who have taught Physics HL, and the ones who have are not distributed by neighbourhood.

What the comparison does usefully is separate the two things parents are buying. One is logistics, and on logistics Dubai Hills Estate wins: bus runs from the Al Khail campuses often land before 15:40, which makes a 16:00 start genuine rather than optimistic, and that is earlier than Arabian Ranches, Sobha Hartland or Nad Al Sheba can manage. The other is specialism, and on specialism the four communities are indistinguishable, because the constraint is national rather than local.

So the rest of this page is physics rather than geography. The five themes of the current guide and what Higher Level adds to each. The three assessed components with their weightings and what each one rewards. The places physics marks actually go missing, which are more repeatable than most parents expect. The Higher Level against Standard Level decision and its last sensible moment. The mathematics pairing that decides university routes. The investigation, criterion by criterion. What the market charges, with every figure attributed. And a plain statement of how lessons are delivered.

At a glance

  • The usual cause of a Diploma physics drop is algebra, not physics
  • Paper 1 is 36%, Paper 2 is 44% and the investigation is 20%
  • Higher Level extends the same five themes rather than adding a sixth
  • Dubai Hills Estate wins on session timing and ties on specialist supply
  • Lessons are delivered one-to-one over live video, not in UAE homes
IB programmes

Every IB programme stage, mapped to UAE school years

Physics support is useful at four distinct points, and the right intervention at each is different enough that treating them as one service produces the wrong plan. These are the four stages families in this corridor ask about.

MYP 4-5Ages 14-16 · MYP 4 and MYP 5

MYP Sciences, the physics strand

Physics appears inside an integrated sciences course marked against four criteria out of 8, so there is no physics grade to compare against a later Diploma one. The habits that decide a Diploma physics grade are built here: writing a method that could be repeated, quoting a measurement with its uncertainty, and explaining a relationship rather than describing a shape. A student arriving in the first Diploma year able to describe a graph but not extract a gradient is carrying an MYP criterion gap.

In Dubai Hills Estate the MYP strand is taught at the Al Khail continuum campuses, while a large share of the community's children are in the British route doing IGCSE Physics instead. Both arrive at the same Diploma classroom, and the two cohorts have different gaps, which is why the first session with a new student is diagnostic rather than instructional.

DP SLAges 16-19 · DP1 and DP2

IB Physics SL

The same five themes as Higher Level at reduced depth, with shorter papers under the current guide. Standard Level physics is frequently taken because a target course asks for a science rather than because the student chose physics, which changes the tutoring: less extension, more securing of the reliably available marks. Definitions quoted precisely, equations selected from the data booklet quickly, units carried through, and graphs read for a gradient rather than a trend.

A large share of Standard Level physics students in this corridor are aiming at engineering foundation, architecture or computer science routes at UAE and overseas universities. Those published entry requirements differ by institution and by intake, so read the current page for the specific programme rather than relying on what a sibling needed two years ago.

DP HLAges 16-19 · DP1 and DP2

IB Physics HL

Higher Level extends every theme rather than adding a sixth, with additional depth in fields, in nuclear and quantum physics and in the quantitative treatment throughout. The papers are materially longer, so stamina becomes a real variable rather than an afterthought. The commonest Higher Level profile in this corridor is a capable student whose algebraic fluency has not kept pace, and the fix is mathematical before it is physical.

Physics HL is the science we are asked for most often from the Al Khail corridor and the one with the thinnest specialist supply anywhere in Dubai, which is why hiring by distance from Dubai Hills Estate fails so reliably. Online delivery makes the tutor's calendar the constraint instead of their commute, and we say plainly when an early weekday slot cannot be covered.

The physics investigation and a physics Extended Essay

The scientific investigation is a fifth of the grade, marked out of 24 across four criteria worth six marks each, and it depends on laboratory access, which makes its school-set deadline the least movable thing in the course. A physics Extended Essay is a separate 4,000-word piece with its own supervision. Both are legitimate areas for teaching, feasibility testing and criterion-referenced marking, and neither is an area where a tutor may write anything.

Internal deadlines for the investigation differ between the campuses around Dubai Hills Estate, and the spread between two schools a few minutes apart can be several weeks. The only version worth planning from is your own school's assessment calendar, confirmed with the Diploma coordinator, which is the first document we ask a family for.

Subject coverage

IB and IGCSE subjects we tutor

Physics rarely arrives alone in a tutoring request. The subjects below are the ones that share a mathematical requirement, an investigation deadline or a university prerequisite with Diploma physics.

Physics

HL and SL

Five themes from space, time and motion through to nuclear and quantum physics, assessed by Paper 1 at 36%, Paper 2 at 44% and the investigation at 20%. Marks go missing in Theme D fields, in uncertainty handling and in any question asking for a relationship rather than a number.

Mathematics: Analysis and Approaches

HL and SL

The pairing most Physics HL students need and the hardest course to staff locally. Physics marks lost to logarithms, to rearrangement and to trigonometric identities are recovered here rather than in physics lessons, which is why the two are often tutored as one problem.

Mathematics: Applications and Interpretation

HL and SL

A workable pairing with Physics SL and a weaker one with Physics HL for students targeting engineering, because some published entry requirements name Analysis and Approaches specifically. The decision belongs in the first Diploma year, not the second.

Chemistry

HL and SL

Shares the paper structure and the investigation criteria exactly, which makes a physics and chemistry double load two immovable laboratory deadlines in the same weeks. Students usually find the chemistry notation harder and the chemistry arithmetic easier.

Biology

HL and SL

The third Group 4 option with the same assessment shape. Students pairing physics with biology are often heading towards medicine or biomedical engineering, where the physics is a prerequisite rather than an interest, which changes what the tutoring should prioritise.

Computer Science

HL and SL

Taken alongside physics by students heading for engineering or software routes. The logical reasoning transfers well; the mathematics does not automatically, and students strong in code frequently lose physics marks to algebra rather than to understanding.

Design Technology

HL and SL

Mechanics and materials overlap directly with Theme A and Theme B, so physics students usually find the content familiar and the design-cycle documentation unfamiliar. Marks are won in the documentation, which students treat as administration.

Sports, Exercise and Health Science

HL and SL

A Group 4 alternative with real biomechanics content, and a common second science for students who want to avoid a second heavily quantitative subject. The investigation criteria are identical, so the deadlines still collide.

Theory of Knowledge

Core

Assessed by an exhibition and an essay on a prescribed title, worth points in combination with the Extended Essay. Strong physics students are often weakest here, because the essay asks them to argue rather than to explain, and they are the least likely to seek help for it.

Extended Essay in Physics

Core

A 4,000-word independent research piece with a physics research question and school supervision. Support means teaching research question feasibility, experimental design and referencing discipline. No tutor should write the Extended Essay or draft any part of it, and we decline those requests.

How sessions run

Tutoring formats built around UAE school timetables

Three structures for physics support, all one-to-one over live video with the student's written working visible on screen. The choice depends on whether the problem is mathematical, procedural or an approaching deadline.

Weekly physics with an embedded maths repair

The default for a first-year Higher Level student whose grade has dropped. A ninety-minute weekly slot in which perhaps a third of the early sessions are spent on rearrangement, logarithms, trigonometric identities and uncertainty arithmetic rather than on physics content. Parents sometimes query this and it is the fastest route to a grade change, because the physics marks being lost are mathematical marks inside physics questions.

  • Algebraic fluency diagnosed in the first session, explicitly
  • Maths repair embedded in physics questions, not taught separately
  • Paced to the school's theme order, not ahead of it
  • Written feedback after each session naming the next task

Component-focused blocks before a mock

A bounded block aimed at one date. It opens with a full Paper 2 under timing, marked against the published scheme question by question, then works the two or three themes carrying the loss, then stops teaching entirely for the final fortnight and does nothing but timed papers. Paper 1B usually gets its own sessions, because almost no student arrives having practised data-analysis questions properly.

  • Starts from a marked full paper, not a revision list
  • Paper 1B practised explicitly rather than assumed
  • New content stops two weeks out by design
  • Full-length papers sat at least three times before the session

Investigation clinics

Short sessions at the three points the physics investigation fails: a research question whose independent variable cannot be varied enough to produce a gradient, uncertainty that is quoted in the raw data and dropped from the processed values, and an evaluation that lists human error instead of naming a methodological limitation with a direction of effect. The student brings their own readings and their own draft; the tutor questions and marks.

  • Research question feasibility tested before data collection
  • Uncertainty propagation taught on the student's own readings
  • Criterion-by-criterion feedback from the published descriptors
  • No drafting, no editing to completion, no supplied text

What IB and IGCSE study actually looks like in Dubai Hills Estate

01

What an IB physics tutor in Dubai Hills Estate has to fix first

The answer, in one line: whatever the marked paper says, and it is usually mathematics rather than physics. Across the diagnostic Paper 2 scripts we mark for students in this corridor, the largest single category of lost marks is not a physics misconception. It is algebraic rearrangement attempted and abandoned, logarithms avoided, units dropped between lines, uncertainty quoted once and never carried, and gradients read off a graph without units or with the axes misidentified. A student can hold a correct mental model of a field and lose every mark in the question.

That is why the first session is diagnostic and why the plan is written after it rather than before. A school report saying physics is a 4 does not say which 4 it is. A student scoring 42% on Paper 2 might have full marks on every short-answer recall item and nothing on anything multi-step, or the reverse, and those two profiles need opposite interventions. The mark total averages them into one number that hides the information you are paying to act on. Marking a full paper question by question against the published scheme is the only reliable way to see it.

The second thing to establish early is level suitability, honestly. Higher Level physics is a two-year commitment made at 16 on the strength of an IGCSE grade that tested different skills. Some students in this corridor should move to Standard Level, and the moment to decide that is the end of the first Diploma year, on two or three pieces of marked evidence, rather than in the spring of the second year under pressure. A tutor who will not raise that conversation is selling hours rather than advice, and the conversation costs them money to have.

The third is the investigation, because it is the only part of the grade that is on a fixed external clock and the only part that cannot be recovered late. It depends on laboratory access, a research question approved by the school, and data collected in a window the school controls. A student in the spring of the second year with no approved research question is in a materially worse position than a student with weak paper marks and an approved question, even though both describe themselves as behind in physics.

02

The five themes, and what Higher Level adds to each

The current DP Physics guide organises the course into five themes: A, space, time and motion; B, the particulate nature of matter; C, wave behaviour; D, fields; and E, nuclear and quantum physics. Higher Level extends each of those rather than adding a sixth, which is the single most useful structural fact a parent can hold, because it explains a phenomenon families find baffling. A Higher Level student with a Standard Level weakness does not lose Higher Level marks. They lose the same mark twice, once in the shared question and again in the extension built on top of it.

The practical consequence is that Higher Level remediation almost always has to go backwards before it goes forwards. A tutor who begins at the Higher Level material because that is what the student asked for will produce two months of apparent progress followed by a mock result that has not moved, because the foundation underneath the extension was never repaired. Parents reasonably find this frustrating to hear and it is cheaper to hear it in October than to discover it in February.

Theme D, fields, is the theme that costs this corridor the most marks, and the reason is specific rather than general. Fields require a student to hold an abstract model and to manipulate inverse-square relationships algebraically at the same time, and students who can do either separately frequently cannot do both at once under time pressure. Theme E compounds it, because nuclear and quantum physics asks for the same algebraic confidence applied to quantities whose magnitudes offer no intuition to check an answer against.

One rule about materials, because this is where families most often get caught out. IB subject guides, past papers, mark schemes and grade-boundary tables are the IB's copyright. We reference them, cite them and work from the student's own legitimately obtained copies through the school. We do not reproduce or distribute them, and a tutoring service offering a downloadable pack of IB physics papers is distributing material it does not own. Ask where a tutor's practice material comes from; the answer tells you something.

Paper 1A, Paper 1B and Paper 2: what each component rewards

Under the current guide, DP Physics is assessed by Paper 1 at 36%, Paper 2 at 44% and the scientific investigation at 20%, at both levels. Paper 1 is in two parts: Paper 1A is multiple choice and Paper 1B is data analysis set on the experimental programme, which means it tests the practical work the student has actually done rather than content recall. Paper 2 is short and extended response. Confirm the current durations and the exact split with your child's Diploma coordinator, because assessment detail is revised between guide cycles.

Paper 1B is the component with the widest gap between what it is worth and how much it is practised, and physics is the subject where that gap is widest of all. Students arrive having worked through large numbers of multiple-choice items and almost no data-analysis questions, because data questions are slow to self-mark and schools under time pressure set what can be marked quickly. The result is a student who can recall every equation and cannot extract a gradient from a graph whose axes are scaled awkwardly.

Paper 2 is where command terms and working discipline decide the grade. State, outline, describe, explain, determine, deduce and discuss each carry a mark allocation shaped to them, and in physics there is a second layer: marks for method survive a wrong final answer only if the method is written down. A student who does the algebra on a calculator and writes one number has thrown away the recoverable marks. Teaching that habit is a handful of sessions and it is the highest-return item on most physics plans.

Stamina is a genuine variable at Higher Level because the papers are materially longer, and a student who has only ever practised in thirty-minute blocks loses marks in the final third to fatigue rather than to physics. Three full-length timed papers before the session is the minimum that fixes it, and it is the part of a plan families most often drop, because a two-and-a-half-hour paper on a school night is hard to schedule in a household that already commutes twice a day.

Where the physics specialists actually sit, community by community

This is the comparison this page exists to make, so here is the honest version of it. Across the four communities in the table, session start times vary by roughly an hour, driven entirely by how long the bus loop is. Physics HL specialist availability does not vary at all. Al Barsha South, which has campuses inside the district, is no better supplied than Arabian Ranches, which is twenty-five minutes out. Dubai Hills Estate, which should be the strongest case for hiring locally anywhere in Dubai, is not better supplied either.

The reason is arithmetic rather than geography. Physics HL is taught by a small number of people in any city, and in Dubai that number is small in absolute terms. Narrowing it to those willing to drive to a specific villa community on a specific weekday evening does not produce a shortlist; it usually produces nobody, or it produces a capable general science tutor presented as a physics specialist. That second outcome is the one families should worry about, because it is invisible for about six weeks.

Where Dubai Hills Estate genuinely wins is timing, and for physics specifically that is worth more than it sounds. Higher Level physics needs full-length timed papers, and a full-length Paper 2 does not fit into a 17:30 start on a school night. A community whose buses land before 15:40 can run a ninety-minute session at 16:00 and still have an evening left, which means the hard practice happens on weekdays rather than being pushed entirely into weekends. That is a real operational advantage and it is the only one in the table.

The practical conclusion is to invert the usual search. Instead of filtering by distance and then asking about physics, filter by physics and then ask about timing. The question that discriminates is narrow: which level have you taught, for how many cohorts, and will you mark one of my child's Paper 2 scripts against the published scheme and return it with the loss pattern named. That last request costs a tutor an hour and tells you more than any amount of reading profiles.

Where physics marks actually go missing

  • Method unwritten, so a wrong answer loses recoverable method marks
  • Prefixes and unit conversions, treated as a skill rather than carelessness
  • Uncertainty carried consistently from raw data into processed values
  • A gradient read as a quantity with units, not as a description of a shape
  • Theme D fields: inverse-square algebra and an abstract model together

The losses repeat with unusual consistency in physics, more than in chemistry or biology, and almost none of them are conceptual. The largest is method not written down: a student performs a three-step calculation on a calculator, writes one number, gets it wrong and scores zero where the mark scheme would have given two or three for the method. That is not a physics problem and it is fixable in two sessions, and it recovers marks on every paper the student sits afterwards.

The second is units and prefixes. Millimetres entered as metres, kilojoules treated as joules, kelvin and celsius interchanged in a gas law, a density in grams per cubic centimetre used in an equation expecting kilograms per cubic metre. Each individual instance looks like carelessness. Collectively, across a paper, they are a substantial share of the loss at Standard Level, and treating them as a skill with its own checklist and its own practice is what closes them.

The third is uncertainty, which students treat as a formality attached to the end of a practical and which the assessment treats as part of the reasoning. An uncertainty quoted in a raw data table and then dropped from the processed values is an inconsistency a marker can see immediately and a student cannot, because they have read their own work five times. In Paper 1B the same skill appears as error bars and as the question of whether a gradient is actually supported by the spread of points.

The fourth is the gradient itself, which deserves naming separately because it is the most physics-specific of the set. A graph in a Diploma physics question is a source of a quantity with units, not a picture of a trend, and that quantity is frequently the answer. Students who were rewarded at IGCSE for describing a shape are penalised at Diploma for not extracting a value, and the transition between those two expectations is unmarked and untaught. It is the clearest single thing a physics tutor can fix in the first month.

06

Physics HL or Physics SL, and the last sensible moment to change

The level decision is taken at 16 on the strength of an IGCSE grade that tested different skills, and it is revisited more often than families expect. The table compares the two routes across the things that actually differ, because the usual framing, that Higher Level is harder, is true and useless. What matters is which differences bite for a particular student: the longer papers, the extended quantitative treatment, the deeper fields and quantum work, and the fact that a Standard Level weakness costs a Higher Level student the mark twice.

The honest case for moving down is specific rather than general. A student whose marked evidence shows the extension content is consistently out of reach, and whose target university courses do not require Higher Level physics, is usually better served at Standard Level, where the same five themes are assessed at a depth they can secure. Their total points often rise, and the two hours a week they get back go into a subject that is closer to a threshold. That is an arithmetic argument rather than a concession.

The honest case against moving down is equally specific. Some published entry requirements for engineering, physics and some medical routes name Higher Level physics, and dropping it closes those doors in a way that is hard to reopen. The research method is to read the current page for the specific programme at the specific institution rather than to reason from what a sibling needed. That research takes an evening and it is the input the decision actually requires.

The timing is set by the school rather than by the IB, and it is the part families miss. There is a last date on which a level change can be processed, it differs between campuses in this corridor, and it is usually earlier than parents assume. Ask for it in writing at the end of the first Diploma year, before the question is urgent. A decision taken calmly in June on three pieces of marked evidence is a different decision from the same one taken in February with a mock result in hand.

The mathematics pairing that decides where physics can take a student

Physics at Diploma level is partly a mathematics course, and the choice of mathematics route is therefore a physics decision as much as a maths one. Analysis and Approaches is algebra-led and rewards manipulation; Applications and Interpretation is statistics-led and calculator-heavy. Both are legitimate courses. The practical difference for a physics student is that the algebraic fluency Higher Level physics assumes is developed systematically in Analysis and Approaches and only partially in Applications and Interpretation.

That produces the single most common structural mismatch we see in this corridor: a student taking Physics HL with Applications and Interpretation SL, struggling with the physics, and being tutored in physics. They need the algebra. A tutor who treats the symptom teaches more fields questions to a student who cannot rearrange an inverse-square relationship, and the grade does not move. A tutor who treats the cause spends three weeks on rearrangement, logarithms and identities inside physics questions, and the grade does.

The university dimension matters and should be researched rather than assumed. Some published engineering and physics entry requirements name Analysis and Approaches specifically rather than accepting either mathematics route, and some name Higher Level rather than Standard. Requirements differ by institution and by intake and they change, so the only reliable method is to read the current page for the specific programme. Tutoring is not required for university admission, and any suggestion that an admissions process depends on buying hours is false urgency.

The decision window is the same as the level decision: the end of the first Diploma year, taken on marked evidence, with the school's last date for a change established in writing beforehand. The table pairs the common combinations with what each one makes easy and hard. It is deliberately blunt, because the vague version of this advice is what produces students discovering in the second year that their two subject choices do not support each other.

The physics investigation, criterion by criterion

  • Research design, 6 marks: range, levels and repeats decided before collection
  • Data analysis, 6 marks: uncertainty carried from raw data into every processed value
  • Conclusion, 6 marks: claims limited to what the gradient actually supports
  • Evaluation, 6 marks: a specific limitation with a direction of effect
  • The student writes every word; the tutor questions, marks and teaches

A fifth of the physics grade is one independent investigation, marked out of 24 across four criteria worth six marks each: research design, data analysis, conclusion and evaluation. No competitor page in this market names a single criterion or its mark allocation, which is odd given that this is the part of the grade a student has months of control over. In physics specifically the investigation has a failure mode that is more mechanical than in the other sciences, and it is almost always visible at the proposal stage if anyone looks.

The failure is range. A physics investigation lives or dies on whether the independent variable can be varied enough, across enough levels, with enough repeats, to produce a graph with a measurable gradient. A student measuring a period against three closely spaced lengths will produce three points that could be joined by any number of lines, and no amount of careful writing afterwards rescues an analysis with nothing to analyse. The useful intervention is a ten-minute feasibility conversation before any apparatus is touched: what is your range, how many levels, how many repeats, and what will the gradient be if your hypothesis holds.

Data analysis and conclusion reward consistency above sophistication. Raw data with units in the column headings, uncertainty quoted and then carried into every processed value, one worked example of the processing shown in full, a graph with correctly scaled axes and error bars, and a gradient extracted with its units and its own uncertainty. The conclusion then has to stay inside what that gradient supports. Students lose marks for claiming a relationship their spread of points does not establish, which is a reasoning error rather than a physics one.

Evaluation is six marks and is routinely treated as a closing paragraph. Listing human error is worth nothing. Naming a specific methodological limitation, stating the direction in which it would have skewed the result, and proposing a realistic improvement is worth the band. The boundary on all of it is firm: a tutor tests feasibility, teaches technique, explains what a descriptor asks for and marks against the published criteria. No tutor should write the investigation, draft the conclusion or complete the coursework, and we decline those requests when they are made.

What Physics HL tuition costs in this corridor, and what the specialism premium is

Physics at Higher Level sits at the expensive end of this market for a reason that has nothing to do with branding: the number of people who have taught it is small, and scarcity prices itself. So the useful way to read a physics quote is to ask where it sits relative to the specialist band rather than relative to the cheapest band, because a rate at the bottom of the market for Higher Level physics is telling you something about who is teaching it.

The published bands, with their sources. Bestimate's Tutoring Cost Dubai 2026 rate table puts specialist IB, IGCSE and A-Level tutors at AED 200 to 450 and above an hour, and in-home one-to-one at AED 180 to 350. Unitors publishes IB tuition from AED 200 and IGCSE from AED 150. TutorChase quotes AED 270. BartyED's premium named tier reaches AED 650. At the budget end, EdFlik advertises from AED 45 to 65 and Tutopiya from AED 33 to 52, which are real services generally delivered online by university-student tutors.

Read against those numbers, a Higher Level physics quote at the budget tier is not a bargain, it is a different product. A quote in the AED 200 to 450 band is consistent with a specialist. A quote above it is consistent with scarcity, named reputation or examiner claims, and on the last of those a note of caution: a tutor should not be described as an IB or Cambridge examiner where current examiner status cannot be evidenced, and examiner status never implies access to marking, boundaries or paper content. Ask for evidence and treat vagueness as an answer.

For context on the household budget, KHDA confirmed on 22 May 2026 that there would be no increase in school fees for Dubai private schools for the 2026-27 academic year, under Dubai's second economic incentives package valued at AED 1.5 billion within a AED 2.5 billion total. IB Gram publishes no rate card: a free trial lesson with the matched tutor comes first, no card details are taken beforehand, and a figure for the specific level and session length follows. Tutoring is not required for the Diploma, for equivalency, for admission or for progression.

How lessons reach Dubai Hills Estate, and where the honesty line sits

Stated plainly: IB Gram delivers tutoring to UAE families as one-to-one lessons over live video, scheduled on Gulf Standard Time. We do not send tutors to homes anywhere in the UAE, because home visits are a service we offer only in India. The phrase families type deserves an answer rather than a dodge, so here it is: if you want somebody physically present in Dubai Hills Estate, that market exists, its published rates run roughly AED 180 to 500 an hour once travel is priced in, and we are not in it.

For Higher Level physics the online argument is as strong as it gets anywhere in this set, and it is about supply rather than price. The specialist pool is small nationally and it is not distributed by neighbourhood, so a proximity filter does not narrow it, it empties it. Removing the drive constraint makes the tutor's calendar the limit instead, which is a far weaker limit, and it means a Dubai Hills Estate student gets somebody who has taught Physics HL rather than the nearest person who has taught science.

What video delivery requires in physics is more specific than in most subjects, because physics marks live in the working. A stable connection, a device with a camera, and a way to show a handwritten page: a document camera, or a phone on a stand pointing at the desk. Without that, a student reads answers aloud and the tutor loses the ability to see where the rearrangement broke, which is the single thing they are being paid to see. It takes twenty minutes to set up and is worth doing in week one.

On academic honesty, the line is the same on physics as everywhere and the pressure arrives on a predictable date. A tutor may teach content, test whether a research question can produce a gradient, explain what a criterion descriptor asks for, mark a draft against the published descriptors, and ask the questions that expose a conclusion going beyond the data. No tutor should write the investigation, draft the Extended Essay or complete the coursework, and those requests are declined rather than negotiated, because the malpractice finding falls on the student and not on whoever helped.

Where we tutor

Dubai Hills Estate against the communities it is compared with, for physics specifically

Each area below is described by what it changes about a physics tutoring decision: which campuses it feeds, when a session can start, and how the local specialist supply looks. Drive times are indicative off-peak.

Dubai Hills Estate

Districts including Sidra, Maple, Acacia and Golf Place, minutes from the Al Khail campuses. The earliest realistic weekday start in this comparison at around 16:00, which matters for physics because a ninety-minute session needs an early slot to be workable on a school night.

Al Barsha South

Campuses inside the district, so the shortest school run here and a start before 16:00 is possible. Physics HL supply is no better than in Dubai Hills Estate despite the campus density, which is the clearest evidence that the shortage is national rather than local.

Arabian Ranches and Arabian Ranches 2

A twenty to thirty-five minute Dubailand bus loop, pushing realistic starts to 16:30 or later. For a Physics HL student needing full-length paper practice, that difference usually moves the serious work to a weekend morning.

Sobha Hartland and Mohammed Bin Rashid City

Apartment-dense with established British campuses and rising Diploma numbers. Physics requests arrive later in the cycle here, which means more of them land after the winter mock rather than before it.

Motor City and Dubai Sports City

British-weighted and IGCSE-heavy, so the physics requests from here are more often the IGCSE-to-Diploma transition than Diploma content. That transition is the sharpest single step in this comparison and the autumn of the first year is the window for it.

Al Quoz and Safa

Parents commuting back from Downtown compress the evening from the other end, so sessions cluster after 18:00. That is workable for short technique sessions and poor for the full-length timed papers Higher Level physics needs.

Nad Al Sheba and Meydan

Low-density villas feeding campuses that draw from across the corridor, producing the longest commutes in this list. Weekend provision does more work here than any weekday slot, whatever the subject.

Town Square and Mudon

Young and primary-heavy with Diploma physics demand still forming. The advantage is lead time: a family here can plan the Higher Level decision two years before it binds, which the mature communities rarely manage.

How matching works

From first enquiry to a tutor who fits

  1. 01

Send the level, the campus and the marked paper

Higher or Standard Level, which campus, and the most recent marked physics paper you have, ideally a Paper 2. Those three decide whether a specialist is available in your window, what the realistic session start is, and whether the first month should be algebra, command terms or the investigation.

  2. 02

Free trial lesson with the matched specialist

Sixty minutes with the tutor who would teach, not a consultant and not a different person. No card details taken beforehand. The student brings one question that has been bothering them, and the session ends with a specific observation about where the marks are going rather than a general impression.

  3. 03

A full Paper 2 marked against the scheme

Within the first fortnight, under timing, marked question by question. This is what separates a physics gap from an algebra gap, a command-term problem and a stamina problem, which need four different plans. You get the marked script back with the loss pattern named in writing.

  4. 04

A written plan, with the level question addressed

Ordered by marks lost rather than by theme sequence, with Paper 1B given its own sessions and new content stopping two weeks before the target date. Where the evidence suggests a level change, the plan says so and names the school's last date for it. It arrives before the second paid session.

  5. 05

    Fortnightly review against marked work

Checked every two weeks against evidence rather than against how sessions felt. If the diagnosis was wrong it changes. If the student has reached the point where hours are better spent on mathematics or on a different subject, we say which and why, and the hours move.

Why families choose us

What UAE parents tell us matters most

Matched to the level, not the subject group

Physics HL and general science are different jobs, and matching on the group is how a family ends up with a capable biologist teaching fields. In a specialist market this thin, level matching is the difference between hours that move a grade and hours that produce a pleasant term.

The algebra named as the problem when it is

Most Diploma physics grade drops in this corridor are algebraic rather than conceptual, and the plan says so explicitly rather than quietly teaching more content. Parents sometimes query a physics plan that starts with rearrangement, and it is the fastest route to a grade change.

Paper 1B given its own sessions

Data analysis questions are slow to self-mark, so schools set fewer of them and students arrive with almost no practice in a component carrying part of 36% of the grade. Timetabling it explicitly rather than assuming it is covered is a small decision with a disproportionate return.

The level conversation raised, not avoided

Where marked evidence suggests Standard Level is the better route and the target courses allow it, we say so, with the school's last date for a change. That conversation costs us hours to have, which is exactly why most of this market does not have it.

Coverage limits stated before payment

Physics HL in an early weekday slot is among the hardest requests to fill in Dubai, and when we cannot field a genuine specialist we say so first. The alternatives are a different slot, a weekend morning, a short wait, or a bounded clinic rather than a generalist in a specialist seat.

Questions parents ask

IB and IGCSE tutoring in Dubai Hills Estate: your questions answered

My son took a 9 in IGCSE Physics and is now getting a 4 at Higher Level. What happened?+

Almost certainly the mathematics inside the physics rather than the physics. Diploma physics expects algebraic rearrangement as a reflex, logarithms where IGCSE expected substitution, uncertainty propagated through a calculation rather than mentioned at the end, and a graph treated as a source of a gradient with units. A student can hold a correct model of a field and lose every mark in the question. The diagnosis is visible the moment a full Paper 2 is marked question by question against the published scheme, and the repair is usually three weeks of algebra inside physics questions.

Is there any realistic chance of finding a Physics HL tutor who lives in Dubai Hills Estate?+

Low, and that is not a fact about Dubai Hills Estate. Physics at Higher Level is taught by a small number of people in any city, and in Dubai the absolute number is small. Narrowing it to those willing to drive to one villa community on a specific weekday evening usually produces nobody, or produces a general science tutor presented as a physics specialist, which is invisible for about six weeks. Dubai Hills Estate is the best case for local hiring in the emirate and it still fails at this level, which tells you the constraint is national.

What does Dubai Hills Estate actually gain over Arabian Ranches for physics tutoring?+

Time, and for physics that is worth more than it sounds. Bus runs from the Al Khail campuses often land before 15:40, making a 16:00 start genuine, while an Arabian Ranches Dubailand loop pushes it to 16:30 or later. Higher Level physics needs full-length timed papers, and a two-and-a-half-hour Paper 2 does not fit a 17:30 start on a school night. A 16:00 start lets the hard practice happen on a weekday instead of being pushed entirely into weekends. Specialist supply is identical in both communities.

Which theme in DP Physics costs students the most marks?+

Theme D, fields, by a clear margin in the papers we mark from this corridor, with Theme E compounding it. Fields require a student to hold an abstract model and manipulate inverse-square relationships algebraically at the same time, and students who can do either separately frequently cannot do both under time pressure. Nuclear and quantum physics adds a second difficulty: the magnitudes involved offer no intuition to sanity-check an answer against, so an algebraic slip passes unnoticed. Both respond to practice on the algebra rather than to re-teaching the concepts.

What is Paper 1B in physics and why do so few students prepare for it?+

Paper 1B is the data analysis part of Paper 1, set on the experimental programme rather than on content recall. Students barely practise it because data questions are slow to self-mark, so schools under time pressure set multiple choice instead, and the gap stays invisible until a mock. The skills are specific: reading axes, extracting a gradient with its units, judging whether a spread of points supports a claimed relationship, and handling error bars. It responds quickly to targeted practice, which makes it one of the better uses of early sessions.

Should my daughter drop Physics HL to Standard Level, and when is the last moment?+

It depends on two things: whether marked evidence shows the extension content is consistently out of reach, and whether her target university programmes name Higher Level physics. Where the evidence is clear and the programmes allow it, moving down often raises her total points and returns two hours a week to a subject closer to a threshold. The timing is set by the school rather than the IB, differs between campuses in this corridor, and is usually earlier than parents assume. Ask the school in writing at the end of the first Diploma year, before it becomes urgent.

Can my child take Physics HL with Mathematics Applications and Interpretation?+

Schools allow it and it is the most common structural mismatch we see here. Applications and Interpretation is statistics-led and does not develop rearrangement, logarithms and trigonometric identities to the depth Higher Level physics assumes, so the student struggles in physics and gets tutored in physics while the cause sits in the maths. If the combination is already fixed, treat the algebra as the primary problem for the first month. Before it is fixed, check whether target engineering or physics programmes name Analysis and Approaches specifically, because some do.

How are marks split inside the DP Physics scientific investigation?+

Twenty-four marks across four criteria worth six each: research design, data analysis, conclusion and evaluation, together making a fifth of the grade. Research design is decided before any apparatus is touched, which is why a narrow independent variable range cannot be rescued by careful writing afterwards. Evaluation is the criterion students treat as a closing paragraph and it is a quarter of the total, so listing human error there is expensive. Ask the subject teacher for the current published descriptors; self-marking against them is more useful than any amount of redrafting.

What makes a physics investigation fail at the proposal stage?+

Range, nearly always. A physics investigation needs the independent variable varied across enough levels, with enough repeats, to produce a graph whose gradient can actually be measured. Three closely spaced values give three points that any number of lines would fit, and there is then nothing to analyse. A ten-minute feasibility conversation before data collection fixes it: what is your range, how many levels, how many repeats, and what gradient do you expect if the hypothesis holds. That conversation is the single highest-value tutoring intervention on the investigation.

Why does my child lose marks when their final physics answer is almost right?+

Because the method is not written down. Physics mark schemes award marks for the steps, and those marks survive a wrong final answer only if the steps are visible. A student who performs a three-stage calculation on a calculator and writes one number scores nothing where two or three marks were available. It is not a physics problem, it is a habit, it takes about two sessions to install, and it recovers marks on every paper afterwards. Units and prefix conversions are the second category in the same family.

Does a physics tutor need to see my child's handwritten working on screen?+

Yes, and it is the difference between a useful session and an expensive conversation. Physics marks live in the working, so a tutor who cannot see the page is listening to answers rather than diagnosing where a rearrangement broke. A document camera or a phone on a stand pointing at the desk solves it. It takes twenty minutes to set up and is worth doing in the first week, because a term of sessions where the student reads out answers wastes most of what you are paying for.

Does IB Gram send a physics tutor to a house in Dubai Hills Estate?+

No. We do not offer home visits in Dubai or anywhere else in the UAE; that service exists only in India. Lessons for UAE families run one-to-one over live video on Gulf Standard Time. The in-home market here is real, with published rates of roughly AED 180 to 350 an hour from Bestimate's 2026 table and independent home tutors quoted up to AED 500 once travel is included. For Higher Level physics specifically, the online argument is about supply rather than price: the specialist pool is small nationally and is not distributed by neighbourhood.

What should a Higher Level physics tutor cost per hour in Dubai?+

Read it against the specialist band rather than the cheapest one. Bestimate's 2026 table puts specialist IB, IGCSE and A-Level tutors at AED 200 to 450 and above; TutorChase quotes AED 270; Unitors publishes IB from AED 200. A Higher Level physics quote at the AED 33 to 65 budget tier is not a bargain, it is a different product, and the right response is to ask what level and how many cohorts they have taught. Above the specialist band you are paying for scarcity or reputation, which may be reasonable but should be evidenced.

How should I treat a tutor who says they are an IB physics examiner?+

Ask for evidence of current status, and understand what the claim can and cannot mean. A tutor should not be described as an IB or Cambridge examiner where current examiner status cannot be evidenced, and examiner status never implies access to marking, boundaries or unpublished paper content. Treat any suggestion of inside knowledge as a reason to walk away rather than as a selling point. What is genuinely valuable is someone who can mark your child's paper against the published scheme and name the loss pattern, which you can simply ask them to demonstrate.

What happens if no Physics HL specialist is free in the slot we need?+

We say so before you pay anything. Higher Level physics in an early weekday window is among the hardest requests to fill in Dubai, and the alternatives we will offer are a different time, a weekend morning where full-length paper work fits better anyway, a short wait for a specialist's calendar to open, or a bounded investigation clinic rather than weekly teaching. What we will not do is put a general science tutor into a Higher Level physics seat and let you discover it in week six. No competitor page audited in this market discloses a coverage limit.

Send a marked paper, not a description

If you are looking for an IB physics tutor in Dubai Hills Estate, the most useful thing you can send is your child's most recent marked Paper 2 together with their level and campus. A description of the problem tends to say the physics is hard; a marked paper says whether the loss is algebra, command terms, unwritten method or stamina, and those four need four different plans. The trial lesson is with the tutor who would teach, no card details are taken, and lessons run one-to-one over live video on Gulf Standard Time. If the honest answer is that the hours belong in mathematics instead, we will say that.
