IGCSE Science Tutor in Dubai Hills Estate

An IGCSE science tutor in Dubai Hills Estate is useful only if they know which paper your child is sitting. Cambridge and Pearson Edexcel run different science specifications, Core and Extended entries carry different grade ceilings, and one board examines practical skill in a separate paper while the other folds it into the theory papers. This page sets out the codes, the papers, the command words that decide marks and the past-paper routine that moves grades - then explains how lessons reach Dubai Hills Estate: one-to-one, live online, timed to Gulf Standard Time.

  • Teaching built from the specification, not a generic science course
  • Command-word drills on the question types that recur
  • Marked past-paper work between every session
  • One-to-one live online lessons on Gulf Standard Time

IB & IGCSE in Dubai Hills Estate

The syllabus code decides everything else

Most IGCSE science tutoring goes wrong before the first lesson, and it goes wrong in the same way: nobody checks which qualification the student is actually entered for. Around Dubai Hills Estate, in a British-curriculum belt that stretches from Al Barsha South to Motor City, children sit at least four different science routes. Three separate Cambridge sciences. Cambridge Co-ordinated Sciences as a double award. Cambridge Combined Science as a single award. Pearson Edexcel International GCSE separate sciences, or Pearson's double award. Each has its own paper structure, and several have different grade ceilings depending on the entry tier.

A tutor who teaches 'IGCSE science' without naming the code is teaching an average of all of them. That sounds harmless and is not. A child entered for Cambridge Co-ordinated Sciences is being examined on content drawn across biology, chemistry and physics in proportions set by that syllabus, and spending lessons on separate-science depth wastes the hour. A child sitting a Pearson Edexcel separate science has no standalone practical exam, so drilling a Cambridge alternative-to-practical paper trains a skill the board will never assess in that form.

So this page is written from the subject outwards rather than from the neighbourhood inwards. It starts with the codes and the papers, moves to the tier decision and its grade ceiling, then to the command words that decide where marks land, then to the specific places biology, chemistry and physics each leak marks for students in Dubai. After that it covers the past-paper routine that actually changes grades, what the market charges in AED with the source named, and how practical work is handled when teaching happens over video.

The practical question deserves an early answer because it is the one parents ask first. Your child's practical work and any practical examination happen at school, under the school's supervision and entry. Online tutoring does not replace that and should never claim to. What it does is teach the thinking the practical papers reward: controlling variables, identifying sources of error, reading a results table critically, and writing a conclusion that refers to the data rather than to the expectation. Those are explained and practised on screen as well as they are at a bench, and often better, because the tutor can mark the writing.

One thing stated plainly before the detail. Tutoring for UAE families is delivered online, one-to-one, over live video, timed to Gulf Standard Time. IB Gram does not offer home visits in Dubai or anywhere else in the emirates; home visits are a service we run only in India. For a science student in Dubai Hills Estate that is the better arrangement anyway, because a specification specialist matters far more than a short drive, and the specification is the whole subject of this page.

Cambridge International IGCSE sciences

Separate Biology 0610, Chemistry 0620 and Physics 0625, or Co-ordinated Sciences 0654 as a double award, or Combined Science 0653 as a single award. Cambridge also publishes 9-1 graded versions of these syllabuses under separate codes, so two children at neighbouring campuses can be sitting the same content for differently labelled grades. Candidates are entered at Core or Extended tier, and the tier sets the grade range available.

Cambridge runs IGCSE exams in a June series and a November series, with Primary and Lower Secondary Checkpoint tests in March, May and October. Every exam centre is allocated to one of six administrative zones, and Cambridge states that it is essential to use the correct version of the timetable for your zone - it cannot accept responsibility for candidates who miss an exam after using the wrong one. Ask your Dubai Hills Estate campus which zone it sits in.

IGCSEAges 14-16 · Years 10-11

Pearson Edexcel International GCSE sciences

Separate Biology 4BI1, Chemistry 4CH1 and Physics 4PH1, or Science Double Award and Single Award. The design difference that matters for tutoring is practical assessment: Pearson examines practical skills inside the written papers rather than in a standalone practical test, so a student needs to write about method, error and improvement rather than perform under exam conditions. Confirm the exact code on the statement of entry, because Pearson revises specifications on its own cycle.

Pearson Edexcel International GCSE exams are available in May and June and again in November each year. The November 2026 final timetable ran from late October to 19 November 2026. June 2026 results reached centres on 19 August 2026 and students on 20 August 2026, and November 2025 results reached students on 22 January 2026. Pearson publishes provisional timetables ahead of each series, so always work from the live official PDF.

IB Diploma Programme sciences

Where many Dubai Hills Estate students take science next, at the Al Barsha and Al Quoz IB campuses. Group 4 subjects are examined on two papers plus an internally assessed scientific investigation. Students who avoided calculation at IGCSE meet it again immediately, which is why the strongest argument for IGCSE science tutoring in Year 10 is often what happens in DP1.

Three of the seven new private schools opening in Dubai for 2026-27 run International Baccalaureate programmes. For a Year 10 student in Dubai Hills Estate that widens the sixth-form choice, but the IGCSE grades that make the choice possible are being earned now, two years before the decision is formally taken.

ALAges 16-18 · Years 12-13

A Level sciences

The other sixth-form route, available at several campuses in the Al Barsha and Al Quoz belt. A Level sciences assume fluency with IGCSE Extended content rather than Core content, which is the practical reason the tier decision at fourteen matters so much more than it feels at the time. Students arriving from a single-award science route commonly need a bridging block before A Level teaching makes sense.

Families weighing A Level against the Diploma for a Dubai Hills Estate child should ask each campus which science combinations it can actually timetable next year, not which it lists in a brochure. Combinations are constrained by staffing, and a subject offered on paper is not always a subject that runs.

Subject coverage

IB and IGCSE subjects we tutor

These are the science courses and close companions we teach for students around Dubai Hills Estate, with the specific thing each one tends to cost a candidate in the exam rather than a general description.

Biology

Cambridge 0610 Core and Extended; Pearson 4BI1

The science students assume is the easy one. Marks go on extended-response answers that describe a process when the question asked for an explanation, and on answers that omit the named example the mark scheme requires. Transport in plants and homeostasis are the recurring content gaps.

Chemistry

Cambridge 0620 Core and Extended; Pearson 4CH1

Mole calculations are where grades are decided. Students who can balance equations still lose marks for state symbols, units and answers given to the wrong number of significant figures. The organic sequence rewards pattern recognition rather than memorising each reaction separately.

Physics

Cambridge 0625 Core and Extended; Pearson 4PH1

Electricity is the topic most often reported as impossible and is one of the most teachable. Marks leak through unit conversion, formula rearrangement done in the head, and graph questions where the gradient is calculated from two points too close together to be reliable.

Co-ordinated Sciences, double award

Cambridge 0654, Core and Extended

Content drawn across all three sciences in proportions set by this syllabus, examined as two awards. Teaching it as three separate sciences at full depth wastes time; teaching it as a thin version of each wastes marks. The syllabus document is the only reliable guide to what is in scope.

Combined Science, single award

Cambridge 0653, Core and Extended

One award covering all three disciplines. Often chosen to free timetable space for other subjects, and perfectly respectable, but it narrows A Level science options later. Worth a frank conversation in Year 9 rather than a discovery in Year 12.

Mathematics

Cambridge 0580 and 0607; Pearson 4MA1

Science grades follow maths fluency more closely than parents expect. Rearranging formulae, handling standard form, reading gradients and working with ratios are maths skills examined inside physics and chemistry papers, and weakness there looks like a science problem.

English as a First Language

Cambridge 0500; Pearson 4EA1

Extended-response science answers are written answers. Students who cannot construct a two-clause causal sentence lose marks they have earned in understanding, particularly in biology where explanation chains carry several marks each.

Arabic as an additional language

Dubai mandatory subject provision

Timetabled alongside the IGCSE programme in every Dubai private school. It does not count towards the five subjects the Ministry of Education requires at equivalency, which surprises families planning a subject list for the first time.

Computer Science

Cambridge 0478; Pearson 4CP0

A common companion to the sciences for students heading towards engineering. Algorithm questions reward students who trace code by hand before writing anything, which is a habit rather than an aptitude.

Geography

Cambridge 0460; Pearson 4GE1

Shares the data-handling and graph-interpretation skills the science papers test, and the overlap is worth using deliberately. Students who improve at reading an unfamiliar data set for geography usually pick up marks in physics without extra teaching.

How sessions run

Tutoring formats built around UAE school timetables

Three patterns of IGCSE science support that work, each suited to a different point in Years 10 and 11. All of them are delivered one-to-one over live video.

Year 10 specification build

A weekly session that runs alongside the school's scheme of work, keeping the student level with the syllabus rather than recovering from it. The tutor works from the published specification, so content the school has not reached yet is flagged rather than pre-taught badly. This is the cheapest useful pattern, because it prevents the Year 11 triage that costs three times as much.

  • Built on the syllabus code from the statement of entry
  • Topic checklists ticked off against the specification, not the textbook
  • Written answers marked between sessions
  • Early warning when the tier entry looks wrong

Year 11 technique and past papers

A session a week built around timed questions and mark-scheme comparison. Content gaps are filled where they appear rather than taught from the start, and the bulk of the hour goes on command-word discipline, working shown, units and the specific question formats the board reuses. Most of the recoverable marks in Year 11 sit here rather than in new content.

  • Timed sections under exam conditions, then marked together
  • An error log kept by syllabus topic rather than by date
  • Alternative-to-practical or practical-skills writing, depending on board
  • Honest triage when the timeline is short

A single-science rescue block

Three to six sessions aimed at one science that has fallen behind the other two, usually chemistry quantitative work or physics electricity. The block starts with a timed paper and ends with evidence that the specific habit has changed. Families use it to avoid buying an open-ended package for a narrow problem.

  • One science, one diagnosed problem, a fixed number of hours
  • Starts and ends with a marked timed paper
  • A written note of what moved and what did not
  • No obligation to continue afterwards

What IB and IGCSE study actually looks like in Dubai Hills Estate

01

Which science qualification is actually on your child's statement of entry

Find the statement of entry before you do anything else. It names the board, the syllabus code and the entry tier, and those three facts determine what useful tutoring looks like. Around Dubai Hills Estate the same question gets four or five different answers depending on the campus, and in some schools different year groups sit different boards because a specification changed mid-cohort. Parents who assume are usually assuming the arrangement they knew in another country.

The distinction that catches most families is between separate sciences and an award route. Three separate Cambridge sciences give three IGCSE grades and the deepest preparation for A Level. Cambridge Co-ordinated Sciences 0654 gives a double award drawn across all three disciplines. Cambridge Combined Science 0653 gives a single award covering the same three in less depth. Pearson Edexcel runs separate sciences as 4BI1, 4CH1 and 4PH1, plus its own double and single award routes. These are not interchangeable, and tutoring aimed at the wrong one is simply the wrong lessons.

The second distinction is practical assessment, and it is the one where board choice changes tutoring most. Cambridge sciences carry a practical component that may be a practical test or an alternative-to-practical written paper, depending on how the centre enters candidates. Pearson Edexcel International GCSE sciences examine practical skill inside the theory papers. A student sitting Pearson needs to write confidently about method, variables, error and improvement; a student sitting a Cambridge alternative-to-practical paper needs that plus the specific conventions of that paper. Train the wrong one and the hour is wasted.

The table lists the routes in common circulation around Dubai Hills Estate. Codes are given as a starting point for a conversation with the school, not as a substitute for one: boards revise specifications on their own cycles and a code can change between cohorts. Ask the science department which code and which tier, in writing, and keep the reply.

Core, Extended and the grade ceiling nobody mentions at the parents' evening

Cambridge science candidates are entered at Core or Extended tier, and the tier determines the grade range available. A Core entry is designed for a narrower range of attainment and does not reach the top grades; an Extended entry does, and is the route that A Level sciences assume. Schools make tier decisions on evidence, usually during Year 10, and the decision is reversible for a window that closes well before the exam series. Families who find out about the ceiling in March have found out too late.

Ask the science department three questions. Which tier is my child entered for. What is the highest grade available on that tier. When is the last date the entry can be changed. The third is the one that matters most, because it is the only one with a deadline attached, and because entry deadlines sit months before the exam. For a candidate in Dubai Hills Estate the choice is the June series or the November series -- Cambridge offers its February and March series to India only -- and the entry window for June closes in the spring, roughly four months before the first paper, with forecast grades following a few weeks later. Pearson shows the same shape with dates you can check against a published timetable: its November 2026 International GCSE papers ran from late October to 19 November 2026, and entries for that window had closed long before the autumn term got going. The exact day is on your school's statement of entry, so ask the exams officer for it rather than working from a date you read online.

Where a tier change is the right decision, tutoring has a specific job: evidence it. A student who needs to move from Core to Extended has to demonstrate Extended-standard work on past paper questions, not enthusiasm. Six weeks of marked Extended questions, with the marks recorded, is a stronger case to a head of science than any conversation. Where a tier change is not realistic, the honest answer is to maximise the grade available rather than chase a ceiling that cannot be reached, and we say so.

The table sets the two tiers side by side on the terms that matter for a tutoring plan. Grade ranges are deliberately described rather than numbered, because Cambridge publishes 9-1 and A*-G graded versions of the same science syllabuses under different codes and the labels differ between them. The syllabus document for your child's exact code is the authority on this, and it is free to download from the board.

Command words: where the mark scheme actually puts the marks

Science mark schemes are not generous or stingy; they are literal. A question that says describe is asking for what happens. A question that says explain is asking why, and an answer that describes earns nothing however accurate it is. A question that says suggest is inviting a reasoned answer about an unfamiliar situation and will credit several different sensible responses. Students who learn this stop losing marks they already understood the science for, which is why command-word work is the fastest return available in Year 11.

The habit we teach is mechanical and takes about three weeks to stick. Before writing anything, underline the command word and read the mark allocation. Three marks means three distinct creditable points, not one point expressed at length. If the command word is explain, the answer needs at least one because or therefore in it. If the question gives a context, the answer refers to that context rather than to a textbook example. None of this is clever. All of it is worth marks on every paper, in every science, on both boards.

There is a second layer that separates a grade 6 from a grade 8. Precision of vocabulary. In biology, diffusion and osmosis are not synonyms and a mark scheme will not accept one for the other. In chemistry, an answer about rate that says the reaction speeds up earns less than one that names more frequent successful collisions. In physics, heat and temperature are different quantities. Tutors who correct this consistently, in writing, change a student's written work faster than any amount of content revision.

The table lists the command words that recur most and what each one actually requires. It is worth printing and keeping next to the student while they work, which is a slightly old-fashioned suggestion that works. Confirm the full list for your child's board in the published syllabus document, because each board defines its own set and the definitions are the examiner's, not ours.

Where marks go missing in biology, chemistry and physics

  • Biology: incomplete explanation chains and missing named examples
  • Chemistry: state symbols, units and significant figures in mole calculations
  • Physics: formula rearrangement and unit conversion mistaken for topic weakness
  • All three: graph gradients taken from points too close together
  • All three: unfinished calculations earning nothing where a formula line would score

Biology first, because it is the science students underestimate. The content reads as familiar, so revision feels productive while the marks do not move. The losses cluster in extended-response answers: a six-mark question on transport in plants answered with a description of xylem, or a homeostasis question that names the organ but never completes the feedback loop. Biology rewards complete chains of reasoning and the specific named example the mark scheme asks for. Nothing about that is intuitive, and all of it is teachable.

Chemistry marks are decided by quantitative work. Moles, concentration, limiting reagents, percentage yield. Students who can balance an equation still lose marks for missing state symbols, wrong units, and answers rounded to a number of significant figures that the data does not support. The organic sequence is the other recurring complaint, and it is usually a symptom of memorising each reaction separately rather than seeing the pattern. Taught as patterns, the topic shrinks to a fraction of the apparent load.

Physics is where the complaint is loudest and the diagnosis is most often wrong. Students say they cannot do electricity. What is usually true is that they cannot reliably rearrange a formula under time pressure, convert units in their head, or read a gradient from a graph using points far enough apart to be accurate. Those are three separable skills, each fixable in a few sessions, and none of them is about electricity. A tutor who re-teaches circuits to a student with an algebra problem will spend six weeks achieving nothing.

Across all three there is a category that belongs to none of them: exam management. Students who answer every question in order run out of time on the questions worth most. Students who leave a calculation half-finished get no credit for the half they did, when writing the formula alone would have earned a mark. Students who never check whether an answer is physically plausible submit a mass of two thousand kilograms for a test tube. These are habits, they are coached rather than taught, and they are worth more than most topics.

05

The past-paper routine, counted back from the exam series

Past papers are the most misused resource in IGCSE science. Doing them is not revision; marking them honestly is. A student who works through fifteen papers and marks each one generously has learned to feel prepared. A student who works through five and compares every answer against the mark scheme line by line has learned where the marks are. The second student scores higher, and the difference is not effort.

The routine below is counted backwards from an exam series because that is how the work has to be planned. Note what is not in it: new content in the final six weeks. By then the honest job is technique, recall of the things most likely to appear, and keeping the student calm enough to read questions properly. A tutor proposing to cover the whole syllabus in April is either misreading the calendar or selling hours, and families in Dubai Hills Estate should treat that proposal as information about the tutor.

Two practical details. First, use papers from the correct tier and the correct syllabus code; a Core paper flatters an Extended candidate and an old-specification paper tests content that may have been removed. Second, keep an error log organised by syllabus topic rather than by date, so that by March the student can see that eleven of their last thirty lost marks came from one topic. That single document changes how the final term is spent, and almost nobody keeps one without being asked to.

Entry deadlines deserve a place in the same plan, because they are the dates with consequences. Pearson is the easiest board to anchor a plan to, because its windows are published plainly: the November 2026 International GCSE timetable ran from late October to 19 November 2026, June 2026 results reached centres on 19 August 2026 and students on 20 August 2026, and November 2025 results reached students on 22 January 2026. Cambridge runs the same rhythm across its June and November series -- entries close months ahead of the first script, forecast grades a few weeks after that, results in August for the June series and in January for November -- but the precise days sit on your centre's statement of entry rather than anywhere we can usefully restate them. Work from the board's own live timetable PDF, and check which Cambridge administrative zone your campus is in before you trust any published day.

What IGCSE science tuition costs around Dubai Hills Estate, and how to check it yourself

Everything in this section can be verified by a parent in about fifteen minutes, which is the point of publishing it. Open the pricing page of each provider named below and read the figure yourself. We read them in October 2026 and they are quoted here with the provider attached, because a number without a source is worth nothing and three of the six competitor pages we examined for this cluster publish no price at all.

At the entry level, Dubai online tutoring is published from roughly AED 45 to 150 an hour. EdFlik advertises AED 45 to 65; Tutopiya publishes from AED 33 to 52. Those rates buy supervision and company for homework. For a Year 11 student with a chemistry quantitative problem, they rarely buy somebody who knows which syllabus code is involved. Next band up, a qualified subject tutor working online is published at AED 150 to 300, with Unitors listing IGCSE from AED 150 and IB from AED 200.

Specialist teaching is published at AED 200 to 450 and above: TutorChase quotes AED 270, and Bestimate's Dubai rate table reaches AED 450 and beyond. The premium end is narrow and loud, with BartyED publishing AED 650 for named tutors. In-home visits are a different product and are priced as one: Bestimate reports AED 180 to 350 and independent home tutors are quoted at AED 200 to 500, travel included. Monthly packages in the market run near AED 799 for eight online sessions and AED 1,599 to 1,799 for four two-hour home visits.

Put those figures next to a Dubai school fee and the proportion becomes clear. KHDA confirmed on 22 May 2026 that private school fees would not rise for the 2026-27 academic year, under an economic incentives package valued at AED 1.5 billion. A diagnosed block of six specialist hours on one science is a small, controllable line against that. An open-ended package for three sciences bought in panic in April is not, and it is the most common way families in this part of Dubai spend money without changing a grade.

Online science lessons and the practical question, answered plainly

Parents ask about practical work first and they are right to. Here is the honest position. Your child's practical work, and any practical examination their centre enters them for, happens at school under the school's supervision. No tutoring arrangement changes that, and any provider who implies they can deliver a Cambridge practical test should be treated with suspicion. What tutoring does is teach the reasoning the practical papers assess, which is a written skill in both boards' designs.

That skill has four parts and all four are taught well on screen. Identifying independent, dependent and controlled variables in an unfamiliar method. Spotting the specific source of error that a method invites, rather than listing generic ones. Reading a results table critically, including the anomalous value nobody mentioned. Writing a conclusion that refers to the data obtained rather than to the result the student expected. Students who can do those four things score on practical-skills questions regardless of how much bench time they have had.

Live video is in some respects better for this than a bench. The tutor can put a results table on screen, ask the student to annotate it, and see the annotation as it happens. Written answers can be marked in the session, against the published scheme, with the student watching each mark being awarded or withheld. Try doing that while two people are setting up apparatus. IB Gram delivers lessons for UAE families one-to-one and live online, timed to Gulf Standard Time; we do not offer home visits in Dubai or anywhere else in the UAE, as home visits are a service we run only in India.

What a family needs at home is small. A device with a real keyboard, a stable connection, pen and paper, and a room with the door closed. Science involves drawing, so a cheap graphics tablet or a phone used as an overhead camera repays its cost quickly, because the tutor can watch working as it is written rather than seeing only the final answer. No laboratory equipment is required and nobody should be selling you any.

08

Five subjects, not six: what UAE equivalency actually counts

Families planning an IGCSE subject list in Dubai need the equivalency rules in front of them, because the subject count affects which sciences are worth sitting. For the British track, students must submit proof of one accredited subject at Advanced Level with a grade of no less than E, or two accredited subjects at Advanced Subsidiary Level with the same grade, and must pass five accredited subjects in GCSE or IGCSE certificates with a grade of no less than E or grade 3.

The detail that catches people out is the exclusion. Arabic and Islamic education are not included among the five required subjects for the GCSE and IGCSE count. One competitor page currently ranking in this market states that UAE candidates must take six IGCSE subjects; the sourced rule is five, with those two excluded from the count. A family building a subject list around the wrong number either sits an unnecessary subject or, worse, arrives short.

For the American track the requirements are different in kind: English proficiency requires a score of 5 in the IELTS academic test, 61 in the TOEFL iBT, or 450 in the reading and writing section of the SAT, and mathematics requires at least 450 in the SAT Math test before applying. For the IB there is no points threshold we can publish, because none has been read on a Ministry of Education source; anybody quoting one to you should be asked where it came from.

Two boundaries to be clear about. Equivalency is a Ministry of Education process and IB Gram neither performs it nor influences it; we describe it and point you to the official channel. And tutoring is not a requirement of equivalency, university admission or school progression. Any provider suggesting otherwise is manufacturing urgency about a regulatory process, which is both inaccurate and a reason to look elsewhere.

Where we tutor

Nearby areas we cover around Dubai Hills Estate

These are the communities whose children share the British-curriculum campus ring around Dubai Hills Estate. The specification matters far more than the postcode, but the commute decides when a session can start.

Dubai Hills Estate

Villas in Sidra and Maple, apartments around Park Heights and the boulevard. Children reach the Al Khail and Al Barsha South campuses in fifteen to twenty-five minutes outside peak traffic.

Al Barsha South and Al Quoz

Where several of the campuses sit rather than where these families live. Many of the science departments in this cluster teach both Cambridge and Pearson Edexcel specifications across different year groups.

Arabian Ranches and Arabian Ranches 2

An on-community British campus and a longer run to the Al Barsha schools. Science entries here are predominantly Cambridge, though families should confirm rather than assume.

Motor City and Dubai Sports City

Apartment-heavy with its own British campus and a cluster of tuition centres. The centres teach to IGCSE, which makes them a genuine option for group revision and a poor one for specification-specific technique.

DAMAC Hills and Town Square

Long one-way drives to the campus ring. Parents here report in-home quotes at the upper end of the published Dubai bands, which matches what the market actually charges for travel.

Mudon and Remraam

The furthest points in this cluster from the Al Barsha schools. Weekday sessions realistically start after 17:15 once the bus and a change of clothes are accounted for.

Sobha Hartland and Meydan

Reached on the same Al Khail Road corridor, with campuses running both IGCSE and IB routes. Families often shortlist here against Dubai Hills Estate schools when choosing for Year 10.

Nad Al Sheba and the Dubailand edge

Newer housing with long school runs in both directions. Science tutoring demand here is dominated by Year 11 students who started late and need a triage plan rather than a full course.

School ecosystem

IB and Cambridge school communities we support in Dubai Hills Estate

British-curriculum campuses most Dubai Hills Estate families use for Years 10 and 11

These are the schools where a Dubai Hills Estate child is most likely to be sitting IGCSE science. We support students who attend them and have no relationship with any of them. Each campus chooses its own board and tier policy, so ask the science department directly which specification and which entry tier your child is on.

  • Kings' School Al Barsha
  • Dubai Heights Academy, Al Barsha South
  • GEMS Wellington Academy Al Khail
  • GEMS Metropole School, Motor City
  • Safa British School, Al Quoz
  • Jumeirah English Speaking School, Arabian Ranches

IB and dual-route campuses in the same travel ring

Students at these campuses may sit IGCSE before the Diploma, or move straight through an IB continuum. Families comparing a British route against an IB route around Dubai Hills Estate are usually comparing campuses from this list with campuses from the one above.

  • Dubai International Academy, Al Barsha

How matching works

From first enquiry to a tutor who fits

  1. 01

Send us the statement of entry

The single most useful document a family can share. It names the board, the syllabus code and the entry tier, and it settles questions that otherwise take three emails. If it is not to hand, the science department will confirm all three in writing on request.

  2. 02

    We match a specification specialist

We look for a tutor who teaches that exact code at that tier, with an evening slot that works in Gulf Standard Time after the bus reaches Dubai Hills Estate. If nobody suitable is free that week we tell you, rather than placing a general science tutor on a specification problem.

  3. 03

A free trial spent on a timed paper

The first session is a diagnosis. The student works a timed section from the correct tier while the tutor watches where the method breaks, and then they mark it together against the published scheme. Confidence conversations come later; evidence comes first.

  4. 04

A written plan with an hour count

You receive a note naming the specific gaps, the order to address them in, and roughly how many hours each needs. Where the honest answer is six hours on one science rather than a full course across three, the note says that.

  5. 05

Weekly sessions with marked work and an error log

Lessons run on a schedule you set. Written answers are marked between sessions and every lost mark is logged by syllabus topic, so by the final term the revision plan is pointed at the topics actually costing marks rather than at the whole specification.

Why families choose us

What UAE parents tell us matters most

We start from the code, not the subject name

Cambridge 0654 and three separate Cambridge sciences are different qualifications with different content maps, and Pearson Edexcel assesses practical skill in a different place again. Teaching an average of all of them is the commonest waste of money in this market, and it is avoidable in one email.

Command words taught as a skill

Students lose marks they have already earned in understanding because they explained when asked to describe. Three weeks of deliberate command-word work moves more marks for a Year 11 candidate than a month of content revision, and it keeps paying on every paper in every science.

Every AED figure attributed and checkable

The rates on this page were read from each provider's own page in October 2026 and are named. You can verify all of them in about fifteen minutes. We publish no price of our own in a market table because market rates are not our rates, and conflating the two is how parents get misled.

The practical boundary stated honestly

Practical work and any practical examination happen at school under the school's entry and supervision. Tutoring teaches the written reasoning the practical papers assess: variables, error, anomalous results, data-led conclusions. We do not imply we can deliver anything a centre delivers.

Equivalency explained, never performed

Five accredited IGCSE subjects at no less than E or grade 3, with Arabic and Islamic education excluded from the count, plus the A Level requirement. We cite the rule, point you to the Ministry, and make no claim to run or influence the process. Tutoring is not a requirement of it.

Timelines we will tell you are too short

A proposal to cover three sciences from scratch in April is a sales document, not a plan. When the calendar is against a student we say so and offer triage: the three highest-value gaps, done properly, instead of a full syllabus done thinly.

Questions parents ask

IB and IGCSE tutoring in Dubai Hills Estate: your questions answered

Is my child sitting Coordinated Science or three separate IGCSE sciences?+

The statement of entry answers it in one line. Three separate sciences will show three codes, typically Cambridge 0610, 0620 and 0625, or Pearson Edexcel 4BI1, 4CH1 and 4PH1. A co-ordinated or combined route shows a single code such as Cambridge 0654 or 0653. The distinction changes everything about useful tutoring, because the content map and the depth expected differ. If the document is not to hand, ask the science department to confirm the code and the entry tier in writing, and keep the reply for the sixth-form conversation later.

What is the difference between Cambridge 0654 and 0653?+

Both draw content from biology, chemistry and physics, and both are entered at Core or Extended tier. Cambridge 0654 Co-ordinated Sciences is a double award, so it counts as two IGCSEs and covers more content. Cambridge 0653 Combined Science is a single award covering the same three disciplines in less depth. The practical consequence sits two years later: a single award narrows A Level science options at some campuses. Check the entry requirements of your target sixth form before choosing, because that is the decision the code is really making.

Can a Core-tier science candidate still reach a grade 7?+

No. Cambridge Core entries are capped below the top grades by design, which is the single most important thing for a family to know and the thing least often said at a parents' evening. If your child needs a top grade, the entry has to be Extended, and entries can only be changed inside a window that closes months before the exam. Ask the science department which tier your child is on, what the ceiling is, and the last date it can change. Then make the tutoring plan serve that deadline.

How is the alternative-to-practical paper different from a real practical exam?+

A practical test is sat with apparatus under exam conditions. An alternative-to-practical paper asks the same thinking in writing: identify the variables, spot the error a method invites, read a results table, draw a conclusion from the data given. Which one your child sits depends on how the centre enters candidates, so ask. Either way, the reasoning is the teachable part, and it is taught well over video because written answers can be marked against the scheme while the student watches each mark being awarded or withheld.

Which IGCSE science loses the most marks for UAE students?+

Chemistry, on quantitative work, and physics for a reason that is usually misread. Chemistry marks go on moles, concentration, state symbols, units and significant figures, and students who can balance equations still drop them routinely. Physics complaints centre on electricity, but the underlying problem is normally formula rearrangement, unit conversion or reading a gradient badly. Biology is the quiet one: the content feels familiar, so revision feels productive while extended-response marks stay flat because explanation chains are left incomplete.

What does the command word explain require that describe does not?+

A reason, stated. Describe asks what happens, in sequence. Explain asks why it happens, and an answer that only describes earns nothing even when every fact in it is correct. The practical test is whether the answer contains a because or a therefore. Students who form the habit of underlining the command word and reading the mark allocation before writing recover marks they had already earned in understanding. It takes about three weeks to stick and keeps paying on every paper, in all three sciences, on both boards.

How many past papers should a Year 11 science student do before the exam series?+

Fewer than most families think, marked far more carefully than most students manage. Five papers marked line by line against the published scheme teach more than fifteen marked generously. Use papers from the correct tier and the correct syllabus code, because a Core paper flatters an Extended candidate and an old-specification paper tests content that may have been removed. Keep an error log organised by syllabus topic rather than by date; by March it will show that a disproportionate share of lost marks comes from two or three topics.

My son keeps getting the units wrong in physics calculations. Is that fixable?+

Quickly, and it is one of the highest-return fixes available. Unit errors are a procedural habit, not a knowledge gap: the student calculates correctly and then loses the mark at the last step. The fix is to write the unit before the number, convert everything to base units at the start of the question rather than at the end, and state the formula on its own line so a method mark survives an arithmetic slip. Three or four sessions of deliberate practice usually settles it, and the gain shows up across every physics paper.

Do Pearson Edexcel International GCSE sciences use the same paper structure as Cambridge?+

No, and the difference matters most for practical skills. Pearson Edexcel examines practical skill inside the written papers rather than in a standalone practical test, so a student needs to write confidently about method, variables, error and improvement. Cambridge sciences carry a practical component that may be a practical test or an alternative-to-practical paper depending on the centre's entry. Training the wrong format wastes the hour. Confirm the board and the paper numbers from the statement of entry before any tutoring plan is written.

How are science practicals handled if lessons are online?+

Practical work and any practical examination happen at school, under the school's supervision and entry, and no tutoring arrangement changes that. What tutoring teaches is the reasoning the practical questions assess: identifying variables in an unfamiliar method, naming the specific error a method invites rather than generic ones, reading a results table critically including the anomaly, and writing a conclusion that refers to the data rather than the expected result. All four are written skills, and marking written answers live on screen works better than it does at a bench.

What does IGCSE science tuition cost per hour in this part of Dubai?+

The published Dubai bands, read from providers' own pages in October 2026, run roughly AED 45 to 150 for budget online tutoring - EdFlik AED 45 to 65, Tutopiya from AED 33 to 52 - then AED 150 to 300 for a qualified subject tutor online, with Unitors listing IGCSE from AED 150. Specialists are published at AED 200 to 450 and above, including TutorChase at AED 270. In-home visits sit at AED 180 to 500 with travel inside the figure. Those are market rates with sources attached, not IB Gram prices.

Should we tutor all three sciences at once or start with the weakest one?+

Start with the weakest one almost always. Three sciences at once means three hours a week on top of a Year 11 workload and mandatory UAE subject hours, and the plan is usually abandoned by the second month. One science, diagnosed properly and fixed, frees attention for the other two and often improves them indirectly, because the maths and command-word habits transfer. For a co-ordinated or combined award the content is drawn across all three anyway, so one tutor covering the single code is the natural arrangement rather than a compromise.

Do the sciences count towards the five subjects the UAE requires at equivalency?+

Yes. The sourced rule for the British track is five accredited GCSE or IGCSE subjects at a grade of no less than E or grade 3, and Arabic and Islamic education are not included among those five. Sciences count towards the total in the normal way. Note that one competitor page currently ranking in this market states six subjects; the sourced figure is five. Verify the current rule on the Ministry of Education's own pages before building a subject list, and remember that the A Level requirement sits alongside it.

When should a Year 10 science student start tutoring rather than wait?+

When the school's reports show a gap widening rather than a single poor test, when the tier entry is in doubt, or when the student has stopped asking questions in class. Year 10 support is cheaper per mark than Year 11 support because it prevents triage rather than performing it, and because tier entries are still changeable. If you are deciding between starting now and starting in September of Year 11, start now with one session a week and review it in six weeks against marked work.

How do we know which science specification the school entered my child for?+

Ask the science department for the board, the syllabus code and the entry tier, in writing, and ask for the statement of entry when it is issued. Also ask which Cambridge administrative zone the centre sits in, because Cambridge allocates every centre to one of six zones and states that using the wrong zone's timetable is the centre's risk, not the board's. Keep all of it in one place: the same three facts will be needed for the sixth-form application and for any equivalency paperwork later.

Start with the code, then buy the hours

An IGCSE science tutor is worth paying for when they know which paper your child is sitting and which marks are being lost. Find the syllabus code and the entry tier, then book a trial session that opens with a timed paper from the correct tier rather than a conversation. You will know within the hour whether the problem is content, technique or exam management, and you will have a written note of the gaps with an hour count attached. Lessons for Dubai Hills Estate families run one-to-one and live online, on Gulf Standard Time, after the bus gets home.
