IB Home Tutor in Dubai Hills Estate

Searching for an IB home tutor in Dubai Hills Estate puts you in a strange position: the community is ringed by good campuses and short of Diploma subject specialists, so the people nearest you are rarely the people who teach what you need. This page compares Dubai Hills Estate against the neighbourhoods either side of it, prices the travel premium a visiting tutor charges, and then says plainly how IB Gram delivers instead. Lessons are one-to-one over live video on Gulf Standard Time, with a free trial first and no card details taken.

IB & IGCSE in Dubai Hills Estate

Two neighbourhoods, one decision, and the thing distance does not fix

Dubai Hills Estate is unusual among Dubai villa communities because the schools are close. The Al Khail campuses sit minutes away, Al Barsha South is the next junction along Al Khail Road, and Sobha Hartland and Nad Al Sheba are a short run in the other direction. A family in Maple or Acacia can reach four or five serious campuses inside twenty minutes, which is not true of Arabian Ranches 3 or Town Square. That proximity creates a particular assumption: if the schools are this close, a tutor should be too.

The assumption breaks on supply rather than geography. Diploma subject specialists are thin across the whole emirate, and thinner the further you go up the subject list. There is a reasonable pool of general maths and science tutors. There is a much smaller pool for Higher Level Chemistry, Economics or Psychology, a smaller one again for Higher Level Mathematics Analysis and Approaches, and for several Group 2 languages and Group 6 subjects there is almost nothing local at all. Narrowing that pool to people who will drive to Dubai Hills Estate on a weekday evening does not improve it.

So this page runs the comparison properly. Dubai Hills Estate against Al Barsha South, against Arabian Ranches, against Sobha Hartland and Motor City: which campuses each feeds, what the drive does to a session start, which subjects each cluster is short of. The answer comes out the same in every column, which is the point. The variable that decides whether tutoring works is whether the tutor teaches the exact subject at the exact level, and that variable is unrelated to how far they live from your gate.

The home-tutoring question still deserves a straight answer rather than a sidestep, because it is what parents type and what they are weighing. In-home one-to-one tutoring is a real and widely sold service in Dubai. Published market rates run from around AED 180 an hour at the lower end to AED 500 for independent home tutors once travel is priced in, and monthly in-home packages of AED 1,599 to 1,799 for four two-hour visits circulate in this market. That premium over online is not imaginary; it buys an adult physically present in the room. Whether that is what your child needs is a different question from whether it is available.

IB Gram does not sell in-home visits anywhere in the UAE. Home visits are a service we offer only in India, and every country page on this site says so. What we deliver to Dubai Hills Estate is one-to-one tuition over live video, scheduled on Gulf Standard Time, matched on subject and level first. The rest of this page is the evidence for that choice rather than an assertion of it: the area comparison, the rate tables with their sources, the Diploma points arithmetic, the permit rules a visiting tutor is bound by, and a plain account of where our coverage stops.

IB programmes

Every IB programme stage, mapped to UAE school years

Dubai Hills Estate families sit across the full IB continuum and the British route that feeds into it, often inside one household. These are the four stages where tutoring requests actually cluster, and what each one needs is different enough that matching matters more than scheduling.

PYPAges 3-12 · Foundation to Year 6

Primary Years Programme

The PYP is inquiry-led and reported against learner-profile attributes rather than percentages, which is why parents moving in from a British or Indian curriculum often cannot tell how their child is doing. Useful tutoring at this stage is narrow: number fluency, reading stamina, and the written structure that an inquiry report does not test. Anything broader turns into extra school, and a nine-year-old who has already commuted twice does not need a second school day.

The Al Khail campuses next to Dubai Hills Estate include IB continuum provision from the primary years upward, which means a family can stay in one framework from Foundation to Diploma without changing community. That continuity is genuinely valuable and it also hides gaps, because a child who never changes system is never externally tested against one until the MYP.

MYPAges 11-16 · Years 7-11

Middle Years Programme

Eight subject groups, each marked against four criteria out of eight, converted to a grade out of seven by published boundaries. Parents find the arithmetic opaque and students find criterion B, investigating patterns, the hardest thing in the programme. The MYP years are where the habits that decide Diploma grades are built: writing a method, handling uncertainty, structuring an argument. They are also the years families deprioritise, because no external examination is attached.

In Dubai Hills Estate the MYP decision that matters is whether a child continues to MYP 5 or transfers to a British campus for IGCSE at 14. Both routes exist within a fifteen-minute radius here, which makes the choice live rather than theoretical, and it is the single most common reason a family in this community books a consultation.

DPAges 16-19 · Years 12-13

Diploma Programme

Six subjects, three at Higher Level and three at Standard, plus Theory of Knowledge, the Extended Essay and CAS. Forty-two points come from the subjects and up to three more from the TOK and Extended Essay combination, giving a maximum of 45, with 24 the minimum for the award of the Diploma alongside the published pass conditions. Tutoring demand concentrates on Higher Level subjects in DP2 and on internal assessment deadlines in late DP1.

Diploma students across Dubai Hills Estate and Al Barsha South sit at several different campuses with different internal deadlines, sometimes six weeks apart for the same component. Any plan built from a generic IB timeline rather than from your own school's calendar will misfire, so the first document we ask for is the school's assessment schedule.

CPAges 16-19 · Years 12-13

Career-related Programme and the IGCSE alternative

Not every student in an IB school takes the full Diploma. Some take Diploma courses individually, some follow the Career-related Programme where a school offers it, and many families in this community cross to a British campus for IGCSE and A Level instead. Tutoring for a courses-only student is often simpler and cheaper than for a full Diploma candidate, because the core components that eat DP2 evenings are absent.

Dubai's private sector keeps expanding the options: seven new private schools arrive for the 2026-27 intake, four UK curriculum and three International Baccalaureate, creating 16,846 new places, after six opened during 2025-26 and enrolment rose 6%. For a family weighing routes in Dubai Hills Estate, that means next year's shortlist is not this year's shortlist.

Subject coverage

IB and IGCSE subjects we tutor

Requests from this community skew towards Higher Level subjects in the final year, and towards the two mathematics routes at every stage. These are the subjects we are asked for most often from Dubai Hills Estate and the neighbourhoods immediately around it.

Mathematics: Analysis and Approaches

HL and SL

The algebra-led route and the hardest single Higher Level subject to staff locally. Marks go missing in proof, in calculus notation and in the exploration, which students start too late because it carries no weekly homework. Some published engineering entry requirements name this course specifically rather than the alternative.

Mathematics: Applications and Interpretation

HL and SL

Statistics-led, calculator-heavy and frequently the right choice for a student whose target courses do not demand Analysis and Approaches. The commonest error is choosing it to reduce workload and then discovering a university prerequisite that rules it out, which is a conversation for DP1 rather than DP2.

Chemistry

HL and SL

Six units across Structure and Reactivity, with the scientific investigation worth a fifth of the grade. Higher Level deepens each unit rather than adding new ones, so a Standard Level weakness costs a Higher Level student the same mark twice. Energetics sign conventions and equilibrium explanation are the recurring losses.

Physics

HL and SL

Five themes from space, time and motion to nuclear and quantum physics. Students who arrived with a strong IGCSE grade often stall in DP1 because the algebra load rises faster than the physics does, and the fix is usually mathematical rather than conceptual.

Biology

HL and SL

Heavy on precise terminology and on data-based questions that reward reading a graph accurately rather than recalling a definition. Biology students lose more marks to vague wording than to missing knowledge, which makes written-answer discipline the highest-value work.

Economics

HL and SL

Diagram accuracy decides a large share of the marks, and the internal assessment commentaries have a strict word limit and a requirement to use genuinely recent published articles. Higher Level adds quantitative treatment that catches students who chose the subject expecting an essay course.

Business Management

HL and SL

Case-study driven, with marks allocated for applying a tool to the specific organisation rather than describing the tool. Students who revise definitions and not application plateau at a 4 or 5 and cannot see why, because their content knowledge is genuinely fine.

Psychology

HL and SL

Studies have to be used as evidence for an argument, not listed. The commonest failure is a well-remembered study attached to the wrong claim. Higher Level extensions add research methodology depth that rewards precision about what a study can and cannot show.

English A: Language and Literature

HL and SL

Assessed through the individual oral, Paper 1 guided analysis and Paper 2 comparative essay, with the HL essay on top. Students lose marks for summarising a text rather than analysing the writer's choices, and the individual oral is the component most often under-rehearsed.

Theory of Knowledge and the Extended Essay

Core

Together worth up to three points on the 45-point scale through the published matrix. Support means teaching argument structure, research question framing and referencing discipline on the student's own work. No tutor should write the Extended Essay or draft the TOK essay, and we decline requests to.

How sessions run

Tutoring formats built around UAE school timetables

Three structures, all one-to-one and all over live video. Which one fits depends on whether the problem is a subject, a deadline or a transition between curricula, and the three need different session lengths.

Weekly one-to-one on a single Higher Level subject

The default for a DP2 student. One subject, one level, one tutor, a fixed sixty or ninety-minute slot running alongside the school's scheme of work rather than ahead of it. Ninety minutes is usually right for a Higher Level subject because a full past-paper question plus feedback does not fit into sixty. The gap between sessions is where the independent practice happens, which is why two sessions a week in one subject is rarely the right answer.

  • One subject at one level for the whole term
  • Paced to your school's unit order, not a generic sequence
  • Written feedback after each session naming the next task
  • Reviewed fortnightly against marked work, not impressions

Transition support between curricula

For the move most common in this community: a child leaving the MYP for IGCSE at a British campus a few minutes away, or arriving into DP1 from IGCSE. The work is gap-closing rather than teaching ahead. A student moving from criterion-marked MYP assessment into tiered IGCSE papers has to learn a new mark-scheme logic before any content matters, and that takes a handful of sessions rather than a term.

  • Starts from the new school's assessment scheme, not the old one
  • Subject-by-subject gap list produced in the first fortnight
  • Mark-scheme logic taught before content is re-taught
  • Typically a bounded block rather than an open-ended term

Internal assessment and core clinics

Bounded sessions on the components that collide in late DP1 and early DP2: subject internal assessments, the Extended Essay and the TOK essay, all with school-set deadlines that differ between campuses in this corridor. The student brings their own research question, their own data and their own draft. The tutor asks questions, teaches technique and marks against the published criteria, and writes nothing.

  • Research question feasibility tested before work starts
  • Criterion-by-criterion feedback using published descriptors
  • Deadline map built from your school's own calendar
  • No drafting, no editing to completion, no supplied text

What IB and IGCSE study actually looks like in Dubai Hills Estate

01

What an IB home tutor in Dubai Hills Estate costs, and what arrives instead

Direct answer first. In-home one-to-one tutoring in Dubai is published at roughly AED 180 to 350 an hour by Bestimate's Tutoring Cost Dubai 2026 rate table, and independent home tutors are quoted in the AED 200 to 500 band once travel is included. Monthly in-home arrangements of AED 1,599 to 1,799 for four two-hour visits appear in this market. Those are market figures from the organisations that published them, not IB Gram prices. IB Gram does not send tutors to homes anywhere in the UAE: what we deliver to Dubai Hills Estate is one-to-one tuition over live video.

The second thing worth saying immediately is that this is not a cost argument dressed up as a quality argument. At the budget end, in-home and online cost similar amounts. At the specialist end, where Higher Level Diploma teaching lives, the travel component is a real and visible premium, and removing it does lower the price. But a family in Maple or Golf Place choosing between AED 300 and AED 220 an hour is not making the decision that determines whether their child's grade moves. The decision that determines that is whether the person on the other end has taught the specific Higher Level course.

Dubai Hills Estate is the best possible test of this, because it is the community where the proximity argument should be strongest. The campuses are minutes away. The resident population is large and well educated. If a local tutor market were going to supply Higher Level Diploma specialists anywhere in Dubai, it would be here. In practice the requests we cannot fill locally in this corridor are the same ones we cannot fill in Arabian Ranches or Sobha Hartland: Higher Level mathematics, Higher Level sciences in specific evening windows, several Group 2 languages, and the less common Group 3 options.

So the honest framing of the choice is this. In-home tutoring buys physical presence, which is worth real money for younger children, for students who will not engage with a screen, and for households where an adult in the room is the point. Online tuition buys subject match, which is worth more in a Higher Level Diploma subject than almost anything else. Those are different purchases. This page is not going to pretend the first one does not exist, and it is not going to pretend we sell it.

02

Dubai Hills Estate against Al Barsha South, Arabian Ranches and Sobha Hartland

The comparison below is the one families in this corridor actually run, usually in a car park after a school tour. It holds four communities against each other on the variables that change a tutoring decision: which campuses the community feeds, how long the school run takes, when a weekday session can realistically begin, and which subjects we most often struggle to cover locally. Drive times are indicative and off-peak; Al Khail Road between 15:00 and 18:30 makes a mockery of all of them.

What the table shows is a flat line where parents expect a gradient. Session start times vary by up to an hour across these four communities, driven almost entirely by how long the bus loop is. The specialist shortage does not vary at all. Al Barsha South, which is surrounded by campuses, is as short of Higher Level Analysis and Approaches tutors as Town Square, which is surrounded by construction. That is the single most useful observation on this page, and it is the reason the answer comes out the same in every column.

There is one genuine local difference worth paying attention to, and it is not about tutors. It is about internal deadlines. The campuses in this corridor set their own dates for internal assessment drafts, the Extended Essay and mock examinations, and those dates differ by several weeks between schools that are a four-minute drive apart. A family that moves a child between two Al Khail campuses mid-year can find the same component due at two different times, and the sibling at a third campus on a third schedule. Planning from a generic IB calendar is what produces the February emergency.

The second real local difference is household logistics. Dubai Hills Estate households often run two or three school timetables at once, and a short commute for one child does not mean a usable evening for the family. Where two children attend different campuses, fitting two sessions into one evening frequently fails, and the solution is almost always a weekend morning rather than a later slot. That is worth discovering while you are planning rather than in week three, and it is the kind of detail a comparison by drive time alone will never surface.

03

The travel premium, and what it actually buys

Price a visiting tutor the way a logistics manager would. A one-hour in-home session in Dubai Hills Estate is not one hour of a tutor's day: it is the hour, plus the drive in, plus the drive out, plus the risk that Al Khail Road turns a twenty-minute journey into fifty. A tutor who can deliver five online sessions in an evening can deliver two or three in-home ones, and the rate has to carry the difference. That arithmetic, rather than any judgement about quality, is most of the gap between the online and in-home columns in the table below.

Read the tiers from the cheapest row upwards, because the bottom of this market is where the misunderstanding lives. EdFlik advertises from AED 45 to 65 an hour and Tutopiya from AED 33 to 52, and those are real published rates for real services, usually delivered online by university-student tutors. They are not comparable to a Higher Level Diploma specialist and nobody pretends otherwise once you ask what level the tutor teaches. Unitors publishes IGCSE tuition from AED 150 and IB from AED 200. TutorChase quotes AED 270. BartyED's premium named tier reaches AED 650.

The middle rows are where most Dubai Hills Estate families end up, and they are the rows where the travel premium is clearest. Bestimate puts in-home one-to-one at AED 180 to 350 and specialist IB, IGCSE and A-Level tutors at AED 200 to 450 and above, and independent home tutors in Dubai are quoted up to AED 500 once travel is included. The overlap between those bands is not noise: it is the same tutor charging two different prices depending on whether they have to drive. What the premium buys is presence in the room, and nothing else.

One further number to hold while budgeting, because it changes the context. KHDA confirmed on 22 May 2026 that there would be no increase in school fees for Dubai private schools for the 2026-27 academic year, under Dubai's second economic incentives package valued at AED 1.5 billion within a AED 2.5 billion total. For a family whose school bill is flat for a year, a tutoring decision is a genuinely marginal one rather than a choice between fee rises. IB Gram does not publish a rate card; the free trial lesson comes first and a figure for your specific subject, level and session length follows it.

Four delivery models compared for a Dubai Hills Estate household

Beyond the online-or-in-home binary there are two other options that families in this community genuinely use and that most comparison pages ignore: the small group and the licensed tuition centre. Both have real advantages and both have a constraint that bites hard in a Diploma context. The table sets all four against each other on cost, logistics, subject match and what is actually included, with the Dubai Hills Estate reality in its own column rather than described in general terms.

The small group looks like the obvious economy and usually fails on matching. Groups are assembled by year group because that is what is available, not by need, so a Higher Level Chemistry student and a Standard Level Chemistry student end up in the same session with different papers and different deadlines. It works when the needs genuinely match, which in practice means a shared syllabus and a shared revision target, and it works badly the rest of the time. For a single Diploma subject at a single level in one community, assembling a real group is difficult.

The tuition centre with premises is a different animal legally as well as practically. A tutoring operation with premises and staff in Dubai needs a KHDA Educational Services Permit for a training institute, with initial approval first, a maximum of six months to complete the permit and licence steps, and annual renewal requested at least thirty days before expiry. That is a specific licence issued to a specific kind of business. It is not something IB Gram holds and not something we describe ourselves as holding, and any platform implying otherwise is making a claim worth checking.

School-run support is the option most under-used by the families who pay for everything else. Subject clinics, catch-up sessions and coursework workshops run by the campus are usually included in fees, delivered by the person who will mark the work, and timetabled around the school day rather than the bus. Where a subject teacher has already identified a topic gap, that is the first place to go, and a decent tutoring service will tell you so rather than charge you for the same hour.

05

Where the 45 points actually come from

A surprising number of families buy Diploma tutoring without a clear picture of where the points are, which makes it impossible to judge whether a given spend is sensible. The arithmetic is simple and worth writing out. Six subjects, each graded 1 to 7, gives a maximum of 42. The Theory of Knowledge and Extended Essay combination contributes up to three further points through the published matrix, for a maximum of 45. Twenty-four points is the minimum for the award of the Diploma, subject to the published pass conditions on failing conditions and minimum grades.

Written that way, two things become obvious. The first is that the core is worth up to three points, which is the difference between a 34 and a 37 and therefore the difference between two quite different university outcomes. Families routinely treat TOK and the Extended Essay as administrative hurdles while paying for extra subject hours, and that is the wrong allocation for a student whose subject grades are already stable. The second is that a single Higher Level subject dropping from a 6 to a 4 costs two points, which is the same as the entire core at its best.

The pass conditions matter as much as the total, and they are where Diplomas are actually lost. A student can reach 24 points and still not be awarded the Diploma if they have failing conditions in the wrong places. Any plan that targets a points total without checking the condition pattern is incomplete, and the person who knows your child's exact position against those conditions is the Diploma coordinator at their school rather than any tutoring service. Ask for it in writing; it changes what tutoring is worth buying.

This is also where tutoring has to be honest about what it does not do. Tutoring is not required for the award of the Diploma, for Ministry of Education equivalency, for university admission or for school progression. Any page that implies a regulatory process depends on buying hours is manufacturing urgency about something that does not work that way. What tutoring buys is contact time with a specialist on a specific weakness, and whether that is worth the money depends entirely on what the first marked paper shows.

06

The permit a visiting tutor is bound by, and how you check it

If you are weighing an in-home tutor for Dubai Hills Estate, the permit question is the one piece of due diligence that costs nothing and is almost never done. Private tutoring in the UAE is regulated by permit: the MoHRE private tutor work permit was introduced by Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023. It is granted free of charge for two years, and eligible applicants include teachers registered in government or private schools, employees in the government and private sectors, unemployed individuals, school students aged 15 to 18, and university students.

MoHRE's own service is listed as Issuance of a New Work Permit - Private Tutor Licensing, with no fees stated and a two-working-day completion time, applied for through the MoHRE smart app, website and e-services system. That makes the sensible question to any tutor extremely simple: do you hold the MoHRE private tuition work permit. The permit is free and takes two working days, so there is no reasonable explanation for a professional tutor not holding one. Individuals offering private tutoring without a permit are subject to fines and penalties outlined in the applicable laws.

One number you will see circulating that should not be repeated: a specific fine amount. Khaleej Times reported verbatim that the ministry did not specify the fine amounts or detail the penalties, and a figure often quoted as up to AED 50,000 could not be verified. A page that publishes a precise fine is publishing something the ministry has not published. Treat that as a signal about the rest of that page's facts.

The related rule is about who may tutor whom. ADEK's professional-ethics rules for private and charter school staff prohibit teachers from providing paid private tutoring to students enrolled at their own school, and the MoHRE permit's code of conduct also bars serving students affiliated with the tutor's own school. That is press-reported rather than read from the current ADEK policy document, so verify it directly if it affects you. Either way, asking your child's own subject teacher to tutor them privately is the arrangement to avoid, in Dubai as well as Abu Dhabi.

The Dubai Hills school run, Ramadan and the evening that actually exists

  • Al Khail campus bus runs often land before 15:40, so 16:00 is genuinely usable
  • Mandatory Arabic, Islamic Education and Social Studies occupy real timetable hours
  • Ramadan moves the productive window after Iftar for many households
  • Holiday weeks are the best block for internal assessment work
  • Online slots travel with the family; in-home slots do not

Scheduling is where tutoring plans die, and it is almost always because the plan was built around a notional free evening rather than the real one. Start from the bus. A Dubai Hills Estate child at one of the Al Khail campuses is often home by 15:40, which is early by Dubai standards and the main practical advantage this community has. Add twenty minutes to change, eat something and stop being a school student, and 16:00 to 16:30 is a genuine start time rather than an optimistic one.

Then subtract everything else. Mandatory UAE subjects take real timetable hours: Arabic, Islamic Education and Social or Moral Studies are required in all Dubai private schools regardless of the licensed international curriculum, KHDA calculates instructional time on a forty-minute lesson unit, and it advises that any mandatory subject lesson runs at least twenty-five minutes. Add CAS commitments, a sport, a sibling at a different campus on a different bus, and the number of genuinely usable weekday slots in a Dubai Hills Estate household is usually one or two, not five.

Ramadan changes the shape of the week rather than cancelling it. School days shorten, energy in the late afternoon drops, and the productive window moves after Iftar for many families. A session that worked at 17:00 in January often works far better at 21:00 during Ramadan, and students revising for a spring examination session cannot afford to lose those weeks. Agreeing the shift in advance rather than improvising it week by week is the difference between continuity and a month of cancellations.

Two more calendar facts worth planning around. The first is that holiday weeks are the best block-work opportunity in the year and the most commonly wasted: a student with an internal assessment due in February gets more from four sessions in a winter break week than from eight spread across a term. The second is that families in this community travel, often for several weeks. Online delivery means the schedule can follow the family across time zones, which is an administrative advantage rather than a pedagogical one, but it is a real one.

Academic honesty, and the requests we decline

The Diploma's assessed coursework has to be the student's own work, and a breach is a malpractice finding against the student rather than against whoever helped. That asymmetry is the whole reason this section exists. A family paying for help has no exposure if a tutor crosses the line; the student has all of it, up to the loss of the Diploma. So the boundary is set before any work starts rather than negotiated when a deadline is close.

What a tutor may legitimately do is substantial. Teach the subject content. Test whether a research question can actually produce usable evidence. Explain what a criterion descriptor is asking for. Mark a draft against the published descriptors and say which band it sits in and why. Ask the questions that expose an argument going further than the evidence supports. Teach referencing properly. Coach the process of planning, drafting and revising. None of that is a grey area and all of it is more useful than the alternative, because it transfers to the next piece of work.

What a tutor may not do is equally clear. No tutor should write the Extended Essay, draft the TOK essay, complete the coursework or produce the internal assessment, in whole or in part, and we decline those requests. There are services in this market that sell completed internal assessments outright, with a price attached. Using one puts a student's Diploma at risk for a document they did not write and cannot defend in a viva or a conversation with a coordinator. We do not compete with that and we are not quietly adjacent to it.

The practical version for a parent: ask any tutoring service what they will do with your child's internal assessment, and listen for whether the answer contains the word write. A service that says it will review, question and mark against criteria is describing teaching. A service that offers to polish, finish, strengthen or complete is describing something else with a softer verb. The IB's own documents are the authority here, and your child's Diploma coordinator will confirm the boundary in writing if you ask.

09

Starting from Dubai Hills Estate, and where our coverage stops

The first message that is actually useful is three lines: the subject and level, the campus, and the date you are working backwards from. Those three determine everything else, including whether tutoring is the right spend at all. Without the level, a match is a guess. Without the campus, the internal deadline calendar is a guess. Without the date, an eight-week plan might be aimed at a mock that has already been sat, which is the commonest waste of money in this market.

What follows is a free trial lesson with the tutor who would actually teach the term, not a consultant and not a different person. No card details are taken before it. In the first fortnight a full past paper is marked against the published mark scheme question by question, because that is the only way to see whether the loss is content, command terms, process or stamina. Those four need different plans, and a school report grade averages them into invisibility.

Now the part most pages in this market leave out. There are Higher Level subject and time-slot combinations we cannot cover with a genuine specialist, and when that is the case we say so before you pay anything. The alternatives we will offer are a different slot, a weekend morning, a short wait for a specialist's calendar to open, or a bounded clinic structure instead of weekly teaching. What we will not do is put a general tutor into a Higher Level slot and let the problem surface in week four.

The last limit is geographic and it is the one this page has been explicit about throughout. IB Gram does not offer home visits in Dubai or anywhere else in the UAE; that service exists only in India. If an adult physically present in the room is the requirement, the in-home market is real, the published rates are in the tables above, and the permit questions in this page are the due diligence to run on whoever you hire. We would rather tell you that than sell you something adjacent to what you asked for.

Where we tutor

Dubai Hills Estate compared with the neighbourhoods either side

This page's argument is a comparison, so the areas below are described by what they change about a tutoring decision rather than by what they look like. Drive times are indicative off-peak and get materially worse between 15:00 and 18:30 on Al Khail Road.

Dubai Hills Estate

Villa districts including Sidra, Maple, Acacia, Golf Place and Mulberry, plus apartment clusters and the mall. Closest community to the Al Khail campuses, so school runs are short and sessions can start earlier here than almost anywhere else in this comparison.

Al Barsha South

The next junction along Al Khail Road and the densest concentration of secondary and Diploma campuses in this part of Dubai. Families here face a shorter drive and the same specialist shortage, which is the clearest evidence that proximity is not the constraint.

Al Quoz and Safa

Mixed residential and industrial, with British provision and a significant apartment population. Session requests from here cluster later because parents commute back from Business Bay and Downtown, so the usable evening is shorter than in the villa communities.

Sobha Hartland and Mohammed Bin Rashid City

Newer, apartment-heavy and served by two well-known British campuses. Demand here is rising faster than local tutor supply, which makes it the clearest counter-example to the idea that a good neighbourhood produces good local tutors.

Arabian Ranches and Arabian Ranches 2

Established villa communities fifteen minutes south with their own school provision. The drive from here into the Al Khail campuses runs against the morning flow, which pushes realistic lesson starts past 16:30 even though the distance is modest.

Motor City and Dubai Sports City

British-curriculum heavy with a large apartment population and a younger age profile. IGCSE requests outnumber Diploma requests here, and the IGCSE to Diploma transition is where the sharpest content gap in this whole comparison appears.

Nad Al Sheba and Meydan

Low-density villas with campuses that draw students from across the Al Khail corridor. Families here often keep a school after moving, which produces the longest commutes in this list and the latest realistic session starts.

Town Square and Mudon

Large and still filling, with a heavy primary and lower secondary population. Few Diploma requests yet and a lot of MYP and Year 9 enquiries, which is what Dubai Hills Estate looked like a decade ago.

School ecosystem

IB and Cambridge school communities we support in Dubai Hills Estate

The Al Khail campuses next to Dubai Hills Estate

These are the schools nearest the community, and the reason a Dubai Hills Estate session can realistically start at 16:00 while an Arabian Ranches 3 session cannot. Programme offers change year to year, so confirm against the school's own current subject sheet.

  • GEMS International School Al Khail
  • GEMS Wellington Academy Al Khail
  • GEMS New Millennium School Al Khail
  • Dubai Heights Academy, Al Barsha South
  • Kings' School Al Barsha
  • Nord Anglia International School Dubai, Al Barsha South

The next shortlist out: Al Barsha, Sobha Hartland and Nad Al Sheba

Where a Dubai Hills Estate family looks when a specific programme or subject combination is not available next door. These campuses sit inside the same Al Khail corridor and run different internal assessment calendars from each other.

  • Repton Al Barsha
  • Hartland International School, Sobha Hartland
  • North London Collegiate School Dubai, Sobha Hartland
  • Kent College Dubai, Nad Al Sheba
  • Safa British School, Al Quoz
  • GEMS Metropole School, Motor City

Schools are listed as context for the communities this page compares. IB Gram claims no affiliation, partnership, endorsement or client relationship with any school named here.

How matching works

From first enquiry to a tutor who fits

  1. 01

Send three lines, not a form

Subject and level, campus, and the date you are working backwards from. That is enough to say whether a specialist is available in your window, what the realistic session start is given your school run, and whether the next eight weeks are the right eight weeks for what you want to achieve.

  2. 02

Free trial lesson with the matched tutor

Sixty minutes with the person who would teach the term. No card details taken beforehand. The student brings a recent marked assessment and one question that has been bothering them, and the session ends with a specific observation about where marks are going rather than a general impression.

  3. 03

A diagnostic paper marked against the scheme

Within the first fortnight, a full past paper under timing, marked question by question against the published mark scheme. This separates content gaps from command-term errors, process slips and stamina problems. You get the marked script back with the pattern named in writing.

  4. 04

A written plan you can decline

Ordered by marks lost rather than by syllabus sequence, mapped against your school's own internal deadlines, with new content stopping before the target date. The plan arrives before the second paid session, so you can judge it while nothing is committed.

  5. 05

    Fortnightly review against marked work

Every two weeks the plan is checked against evidence rather than feeling. If the diagnosis was wrong it changes. If the student has reached the point where further hours are not the best use of the money, we say so and stop. A match that is not working should be visible to you in two weeks.

Why families choose us

What UAE parents tell us matters most

Subject match before availability

A Higher Level subject taught by a specialist in that exact course is a different service from the same subject taught by a capable generalist. We match on level first and fit the calendar around it, which sometimes means telling you the slot you wanted is not available with the person you need.

The comparison is published, not implied

This page names the in-home market, quotes its published rates with sources, and compares four delivery models including two we do not sell. Most pages in this market compare themselves with an unnamed other platforms straw man. You cannot evaluate that, which is presumably the point of it.

Built from your school's calendar

Internal assessment and mock dates differ by weeks between campuses four minutes apart in this corridor. Every plan starts from your child's own school assessment schedule rather than a generic IB timeline, because the generic timeline is what produces the February emergency.

No permit or accreditation claims

IB Gram holds no KHDA, ADEK, SPEA, Ministry of Education, IB or Cambridge approval and does not describe itself as holding any. The permit section on this page is there so you can run that check on whoever you hire, including us.

Honest about where coverage stops

Some Higher Level subject and time-slot combinations cannot be filled with a genuine specialist, and we say so before payment rather than after. No competitor page in this market discloses a coverage limit, which tells you how often it is handled the other way.

Questions parents ask

IB and IGCSE tutoring in Dubai Hills Estate: your questions answered

Is a home tutor worth the extra cost over online tuition for a Dubai Hills Estate family?+

It depends on what you are buying. Published market rates put in-home one-to-one at roughly AED 180 to 350 an hour, with independent home tutors quoted up to AED 500 once travel is included, against AED 150 to 300 for a qualified online subject tutor. The premium buys physical presence, which genuinely matters for younger children and for students who will not engage with a screen. It does not buy a better subject match. For a Higher Level Diploma subject, match is the variable that moves a grade, and it is unrelated to how far the tutor lives from your gate.

Why is it hard to find a Higher Level IB specialist in a community as central as Dubai Hills Estate?+

Because the shortage is subject-level, not geographic. Dubai has a reasonable pool of general maths and science tutors and a small one for Higher Level Analysis and Approaches, Higher Level Chemistry in specific evening windows, several Group 2 languages and the less common Group 3 options. Dubai Hills Estate is the best test of the proximity theory in the whole emirate, because the campuses are minutes away and the resident population is large. The requests we cannot fill locally here are the same ones we cannot fill in Arabian Ranches or Sobha Hartland, which tells you the constraint is supply.

Does IB Gram send tutors to villas in Maple, Acacia or Golf Place?+

No. IB Gram does not offer home visits in Dubai or anywhere else in the UAE; that is a service we provide only in India. For families in Dubai Hills Estate, lessons run one-to-one over live video on Gulf Standard Time. The in-home market is real and the rates in the tables above are the published ones, so if an adult physically present in the room is your requirement then that option exists and this page tells you what it costs. Before hiring anyone for it, ask whether they hold the MoHRE private tuition work permit, which is free and takes two working days.

How do the Al Khail campuses compare with Al Barsha South for a Diploma student?+

On drive time the Al Khail cluster wins marginally for Dubai Hills Estate residents, with school runs of ten to twenty minutes against five to fifteen for families already living in Al Barsha South. On tutor supply they are identical, which is the useful finding. The genuine difference is internal deadlines: campuses four minutes apart in this corridor set internal assessment, Extended Essay and mock dates several weeks apart. If you are choosing between two schools here, ask each for its current assessment calendar rather than comparing inspection bands alone.

How many points can realistic tutoring actually add to a Diploma total?+

Honestly, one to two points per subject where a specific weakness is the cause, and more only where a unit-level gap is doing the damage. The arithmetic is worth holding: six subjects give a maximum of 42, the Theory of Knowledge and Extended Essay combination adds up to three more for a maximum of 45, and 24 points is the minimum for the award of the Diploma alongside the published pass conditions. A single Higher Level subject slipping from a 6 to a 4 costs two points, which is the same as the entire core at its best. That comparison should shape where you spend.

Should we pay for Theory of Knowledge and Extended Essay support or extra subject hours?+

If the subject grades are already stable, the core is usually the better buy, because it is worth up to three points and most families treat it as administration. If a Higher Level subject is sitting two bands below target, that subject comes first, because two points from one subject matches the entire core at its maximum. Support for either means teaching argument structure, research question framing and referencing on the student's own work. It never means drafting the TOK essay or writing any part of the Extended Essay, and we decline those requests.

What does the MoHRE private tuition permit cost, and can I see one?+

It costs nothing. The private tuition work permit was introduced by Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023, is granted free of charge for two years, and MoHRE's own service page lists no fee and a two-working-day completion time through its smart app, website and e-services system. Eligible applicants include registered school teachers, government and private sector employees, unemployed individuals, school students aged 15 to 18 and university students. Ask any tutor directly whether they hold one. Since it is free and takes two days, there is no good reason for a professional not to.

Is there a published fine for tutoring in Dubai without a permit?+

No published schedule exists, and that matters for judging the pages you read. Individuals offering private tutoring without a permit from MoHRE are subject to fines and penalties outlined in the applicable laws, but Khaleej Times reported verbatim that the ministry did not specify the fine amounts or detail the penalties. A figure circulating as up to AED 50,000 could not be verified. Any page that quotes a precise amount is publishing something the ministry has not. Treat that as a signal about how carefully the rest of that page was written.

Can one tutor take two Diploma subjects for the same student in this community?+

Sometimes, and it is usually worse than it sounds attractive. A tutor who genuinely specialises in two Higher Level subjects exists but is rare, and the honest version is that most people who agree to cover two are strong in one. Where the pairing is natural, such as Mathematics Analysis and Approaches with Physics, it can work well and saves scheduling friction in a household already running three timetables. Where it is a convenience match across unrelated subjects, you are buying a generalist twice. Ask which of the two they actually taught in a classroom.

What is the earliest a weekday lesson can start for a child at an Al Khail campus?+

Around 16:00, which is earlier than almost anywhere else in this comparison and the main practical advantage Dubai Hills Estate has. Bus runs from the Al Khail campuses often land before 15:40, and twenty minutes to change and eat makes 16:00 genuine rather than optimistic. Arabian Ranches families on a longer Dubailand loop should plan for 16:30 to 17:00 instead. Where two children attend different campuses, fitting two sessions into one evening usually fails, and a weekend morning is the realistic answer rather than a later weekday slot.

Do small group sessions work for a single Diploma subject in Dubai Hills Estate?+

Rarely, for a structural reason rather than a quality one. Groups get assembled by year group because that is what is available, so a Higher Level and a Standard Level student in the same subject end up in one session with different papers and different deadlines. Groups work when the needs genuinely match, meaning a shared syllabus and a shared revision target, and for one Diploma subject at one level inside one community that is difficult to assemble. The per-student cost is lower; the match is the thing you are giving up to get it.

Does my child's school fee increase next year affect what we should budget for tutoring?+

Not for 2026-27, which is unusual and worth planning around. KHDA confirmed on 22 May 2026 that there would be no increase in school fees for private schools in Dubai for the 2026-27 academic year, under Dubai's second economic incentives package valued at AED 1.5 billion within a AED 2.5 billion total. With the school bill flat, a tutoring decision becomes genuinely marginal rather than a trade-off against a fee rise. For context on the alternative, monthly rates seen in this market run from AED 799 for eight online sessions to AED 1,599 to 1,799 for four two-hour in-home visits.

How long does matching take, and what if the first tutor is wrong for my child?+

Matching on a mainstream Diploma subject at Standard Level is usually days. A Higher Level subject in a specific evening window can take longer, and where it cannot be covered at all we say so rather than filling it. If the first match is wrong, that should be visible to you within two weeks, because progress is reported against marked papers and criterion descriptors rather than against a tutor's impression of the session. Changing the match at that point is normal and should not involve an argument about who was at fault.

Will lessons continue if we travel out of Dubai during the holidays?+

Yes, and holiday weeks are often the most productive block in the year. Online delivery means the schedule follows the family across time zones, which is an administrative advantage rather than a teaching one, but it removes the usual reason tutoring stops in December and reappears in February behind schedule. A student with an internal assessment due after a break gets more from four concentrated sessions during it than from eight spread thinly across the term that follows. Agree the time-zone shift in advance rather than improvising it.

What should I ask a tutoring service about my child's internal assessment?+

Ask what they will do with it, and listen for the verb. A service that says it will review the draft, question the reasoning and mark against the published criterion descriptors is describing teaching, which is legitimate and useful. A service offering to polish, finish, strengthen or complete it is describing something else behind a softer verb. There are providers in this market selling completed internal assessments outright. The malpractice finding lands on the student rather than on the service, which is exactly why the boundary is not negotiable here.

Run the comparison, then pick on match

If you have been searching for an IB home tutor in Dubai Hills Estate, the comparison tables above should make the decision simpler rather than louder. In-home tutoring is real, costs roughly AED 180 to 500 an hour in this market once travel is priced in, and buys an adult in the room. IB Gram sells the other thing: one-to-one tuition over live video, matched on the exact Diploma subject at the exact level, with the free trial first and no card details taken. Send the subject, the level, the campus and the date you are working backwards from, and we will tell you whether we can cover it before you commit to anything.
