IB Maths Tutor in Dubai Hills Estate

An IB maths tutor in Dubai Hills Estate is almost always hired mid-term, not in September, which makes the first job a different kind of arithmetic: counting the weeks left before your school's exploration deadline and the May examination session. Lessons run one-to-one over live video on Gulf Standard Time, scheduled after the Al Khail Road run home, so a session can begin at 17:00 without anyone losing forty minutes to traffic in order to reach it.

  • One-to-one lessons over live video, timed to Gulf Standard Time
  • Analysis and Approaches and Applications and Interpretation, SL and HL
  • Exploration coaching against criteria A to E on the student's own draft

IB & IGCSE in Dubai Hills Estate

An IB maths tutor in Dubai Hills Estate, read off the calendar

Parents in Dubai Hills Estate rarely search for an IB maths tutor in Dubai Hills Estate in the abstract. The search happens on a specific evening: a Paper 2 mock has come back at a 4, the exploration is still a vague idea about basketball statistics, and the DP coordinator has emailed a draft deadline that is six weeks away. The useful question is therefore not whether tutoring helps in general. It is what this term, from this starting point, can still change before each of those dates arrives.

That framing matters more in IB Mathematics than in most subjects, because the grade is assembled from pieces that close at different times. The mathematical exploration is worth a fifth of the final grade and is finished, marked internally and moderated long before the examinations begin. Paper 1 and Paper 2 are sat in a single fortnight. At Higher Level a third paper arrives, sixty minutes long, worth a further fifth of the grade and built from two extended problems that reward students who can sustain an argument rather than recognise a question type. A plan that treats all of this as one undifferentiated block of revision wastes the term.

Dubai Hills Estate adds its own constraint, which is geography rather than curriculum. The community sits between Al Khail Road and Umm Suqeim Street, so the schools its families use are spread across Al Quoz, Al Barsha South, Sobha Hartland, Motor City and Meydan rather than concentrated in one spot. A bus that arrives at 15:40 and a sibling collection at 16:15 leave a narrow, immovable window for anything academic. A tutor who has to drive into that window spends part of it on the road. A tutor on live video does not, which is why every lesson described on this page is delivered online, one-to-one, with the student's own exploration draft and past papers on a shared screen.

The practical consequence is that tuition here is planned backwards. We start from the examination session your child is entered for, then mark in the school's own exploration deadlines, the mock window and the date predicted grades are issued. Only then do we decide what a weekly hour should contain. An eight-week block in October looks nothing like an eight-week block in February: the first is almost entirely exploration work and topic repair, the second is timed papers, command-term discipline and calculator technique. Both are useful. Confusing one for the other is how a term disappears.

What follows is the whole of that plan written out: the calendar counted backwards, the paper weightings, the exploration criteria letter by letter, what the Dubai market charges for IB maths tuition and who charges it, and how a session fits around a Dubai Hills school run, a half-term and Ramadan. Confirm every IB date with your school's DP coordinator or on ibo.org before you build a schedule on it, because sessions and deadlines are set by the IB and administered by the school, not by us.

At a glance

  • Both IB Mathematics courses, Analysis and Approaches and Applications and Interpretation, at SL and HL
  • Exploration support is feedback on the student's own work, never drafting or writing any part of it
  • Sessions timed to Gulf Standard Time, typically 16:30 to 21:00 on school nights
  • Paper 1 technique without a calculator kept separate from Paper 2 and Paper 3 technique with one
  • A written plan dated back from the May examination session in the first lesson
IB programmes

Every IB programme stage, mapped to UAE school years

IB Mathematics does not start in the Diploma. A Dubai Hills Estate student arriving in DP1 has usually come through MYP mathematics at an IB continuum school or through IGCSE at a British one, and the two produce different gaps. These are the programmes we support and what each one hands the next.

DPAges 16-19 · Years 12-13 · DP1 and DP2

Diploma Programme Mathematics

Two courses sit side by side: Mathematics: Analysis and Approaches, which is algebraic, proof-aware and calculus-heavy, and Mathematics: Applications and Interpretation, which is modelling-led and statistical. Each runs at Standard Level with 150 prescribed teaching hours and Higher Level with 240. Both share five syllabus topics: number and algebra, functions, geometry and trigonometry, statistics and probability, and calculus. The depth inside those topics is what separates the courses and the levels.

Dubai Hills Estate families choose between the two courses at the end of Year 11, often on incomplete information. Schools nearby offering the Diploma include GEMS Wellington Academy Al Khail, Dubai International Academy Al Barsha, Hartland International School and GEMS Dubai American Academy, and each runs its own combination of AA and AI at both levels. Which combinations your school can timetable is a real constraint on the choice, and it is worth asking before the option form goes in.

MYPAges 11-16 · MYP 1-5 · Years 7-11

Middle Years Programme Mathematics

MYP mathematics is assessed against four criteria rather than papers: knowing and understanding, investigating patterns, communicating, and applying mathematics in real-life contexts. Standard and extended routes diverge in MYP 4 and 5. The criterion-based habits built here transfer directly to the exploration, which is also marked against criteria rather than right answers. What does not transfer automatically is sustained algebraic fluency under time pressure.

The MYP to Diploma step is the single most common reason a Dubai Hills Estate family contacts us in the first term of DP1. Students from Dubai International Academy Al Barsha and other continuum schools arrive comfortable with investigation and modelling, then meet Paper 1 with no calculator and find that algebraic manipulation has been doing quiet background work they never had to make explicit. Six to eight weeks of focused algebra usually closes it.

PYPAges 3-12 · Years 1-6

Primary Years Programme Mathematics

PYP mathematics is taught through units of inquiry rather than a numbered syllabus, with number, pattern and function, data handling, measurement, and shape and space threaded through transdisciplinary themes. Support at this stage is about fluency and confidence with number rather than examination technique, and it is usually short-term: a term of weekly work on times tables, fractions or place value.

Dubai Hills Estate has a large primary population, and PYP enquiries here tend to come from families who have moved mid-year between curricula. A child arriving from a British Year 4 into PYP, or the reverse, meets the same mathematics in a different order. Mapping what has been covered against what the new class assumes takes one diagnostic session and is worth doing before any tutoring is booked.

IGCSEAges 14-16 · Years 10-11

IGCSE Mathematics as the route into the Diploma

Most Dubai Hills Estate students who join DP1 from a British-curriculum school arrive with Cambridge IGCSE Mathematics 0580 Extended or Pearson Edexcel International GCSE 4MA1 Higher. Both end at a grade 9 ceiling and both stop short of the calculus, proof and vector work that Analysis and Approaches opens with. The gap is not a reflection of the student; it is a syllabus boundary.

Repton Al Barsha, Kings' School Al Barsha, GEMS Metropole Motor City and Dubai Heights Academy all feed IGCSE students into Diploma or A Level routes, and the IGCSE-to-AA HL step is the steepest of them. A student who scored a 7 at IGCSE and chose AA HL on that basis is the typical DP1 autumn enquiry from this part of Dubai. Bridging work on differentiation, binomial expansion and trigonometric identities is what the first term needs.

Subject coverage

IB and IGCSE subjects we tutor

Within IB Mathematics the work divides cleanly by topic, and the diagnosis in a first lesson is almost always topic-level rather than general. These are the areas a Dubai Hills Estate DP student most often needs, with what each one actually assesses.

Mathematics: Analysis and Approaches

SL and HL

The algebraic and calculus-led course. Rewards fluent manipulation, proof technique and the ability to follow a 'show that' instruction without a calculator. Paper 1 is sat without technology at both levels, which exposes any dependence on a graphic display calculator built up during IGCSE or MYP.

Mathematics: Applications and Interpretation

SL and HL

The modelling and statistics course, with a calculator permitted on every paper. Marks are lost less often on calculation than on interpretation: a regression line computed correctly and then described in words that say nothing about the context scores the calculation and loses the rest.

Calculus

SL and HL

Differentiation, integration, kinematics and, at HL, implicit differentiation, related rates, differential equations and Maclaurin series. The HL extension is where most Dubai Hills Estate students who dropped from a 6 to a 4 lost the ground, usually because the chain rule was never fully automatic.

Functions

SL and HL

Transformations, composite and inverse functions, rational functions and, at HL, modulus and reciprocal graphs. The common failure is sketching: a graph drawn without asymptotes, intercepts or stated domain loses method marks even when the algebra underneath it is right.

Number and algebra

SL and HL

Sequences, series, exponentials, logarithms, binomial expansion and, at HL, proof by induction, complex numbers in Cartesian and polar form, and partial fractions. Proof by induction is the most reliably mishandled topic on the HL syllabus and the most teachable in a fortnight.

Geometry and trigonometry

SL and HL

Triangle rules, radian measure, trigonometric identities and equations, and at HL vectors, scalar and vector products, and lines and planes in three dimensions. Vector geometry is where a student who can do the algebra still loses marks for not drawing the situation first.

Statistics and probability

SL and HL

Data presentation, regression, probability, binomial and normal distributions, and at HL conditional probability, Bayes' theorem, and probability generating work. This is the dominant topic in Applications and Interpretation and the one most explorations are built on, which makes it double-weighted in practice.

The mathematical exploration

SL and HL · 20% of the grade

A 12 to 20 page individual investigation marked internally against five criteria and moderated by the IB. It is the student's own work throughout. A tutor may teach the mathematics it needs, question the reasoning and give written feedback on a draft; a tutor may not write, edit to completion or supply any part of it.

Paper 3 extended response

HL only · 20% of the grade

Sixty minutes, two compulsory extended problems that build in stages. Each later part depends on the earlier ones, so a student who guesses at part (b) usually forfeits (c) and (d) as well. Practice here is about reading the whole question before starting, not about speed.

Calculator technique

SL and HL

The graphic display calculator is required on Paper 2 and Paper 3 and barred on Paper 1 in Analysis and Approaches. Students lose method marks by producing a correct answer with no recorded intermediate step, because the examiner cannot award the method that was never written down.

How sessions run

Tutoring formats built around UAE school timetables

Three ways of working, all delivered online. Which one suits depends almost entirely on where your child is in the calendar rather than on preference.

Weekly one-to-one, term-long

A fixed sixty or ninety minute slot each week, taken live over video with a shared whiteboard and the student's own exercise book on camera. This is the default for DP1 and for the first two terms of DP2, because it keeps pace with the school's scheme of work while repairing older topics underneath.

  • Same tutor, same slot, written notes after each session
  • Plan dated back from the May examination session
  • Topic repair runs alongside current classwork rather than instead of it
  • Short written exercise between lessons, marked at the start of the next

Exploration coaching block

A short run of four to six sessions timed to the school's own draft deadlines. The work is question-led: what is the mathematical question, is there real mathematics at the level of the course, where is the reflection, what does criterion E actually need. The student writes every word and we say so plainly to them in the first session.

  • Topic viability checked before any writing begins
  • Mathematics taught where the exploration needs more than the class has covered
  • Written feedback against criteria A to E on the student's own draft
  • No drafting, no editing to completion, no supplied text

Timed-paper intensive

Used from roughly February onwards and in the two weeks before mocks. Sessions are built around sitting a paper to time, then marking it together against the mark scheme line by line. The point is to find whether marks are being lost to mathematics, to method recording, or to misreading a command term, because the three need different fixes.

  • Paper 1 technique practised strictly without a calculator
  • Paper 2 and Paper 3 practised with the graphic display calculator in use
  • Command terms separated out: show that, hence, justify, determine
  • A running list of recurring errors reviewed at each session

What IB and IGCSE study actually looks like in Dubai Hills Estate

01

What eight weeks of IB maths tutoring can realistically change

  • Bring the last two mock papers with the examiner's marks visible, not just the percentage
  • Bring the school's exploration deadline dates, which are set by the school and not by the IB
  • Expect a written eight-week plan after the first session, not a sales call
  • Expect to be told if a level change is the better move than more hours

Eight weekly hours is about as much as a Dubai Hills Estate family typically commits to before deciding whether to continue. It is enough to do one of three things well and not enough to do all three. Either you repair two or three specific topics to the point where they stop costing marks, or you take an exploration from a vague idea to a complete draft, or you convert a student who knows the mathematics into one who can produce it under timed conditions. Choosing which, in the first session, is the most valuable decision in the whole block.

The choice follows from where the marks are going. If mock papers show scattered losses across every topic with correct method and arithmetic slips, the problem is recording and timing, and the fix is timed papers with line-by-line marking. If losses cluster in calculus and functions while statistics is fine, the problem is topic knowledge and the fix is sequenced teaching. If the exploration has not started and the school deadline is inside the block, nothing else matters: a fifth of the grade is sitting unclaimed and the deadline will not move.

What eight weeks cannot do is rebuild two years of Higher Level content, and anyone who says otherwise is selling. A student sitting at a 3 in AA HL in January has a level decision to make with the school, not a tutoring decision, and we will say that in the first lesson rather than after the eighth. The honest version of this service includes telling a family when the sensible move is a conversation with the DP coordinator about dropping to SL while the option is still open.

The first session is therefore a diagnostic rather than a lesson. The student brings their last two mock papers, the mark scheme if the school released it, their exploration draft or notes, and the school's internal deadline dates. We work through where marks were actually lost, write the eight-week plan against those dates, and send it to you in writing. If the plan says tutoring is not the right spend this term, it says that.

02

The IB Mathematics year, counted backwards

Every IB Mathematics deadline that matters to a Dubai Hills Estate student is set by one of two bodies, and families routinely confuse them. The IB sets the examination session and the final submission windows for internally assessed work. Your child's school sets everything else: the topic approval date, the first draft deadline, the mock window, the date predicted grades are issued. School deadlines sit months ahead of IB ones, deliberately, because the school has to mark and internally standardise the work before uploading it.

That is why a plan built on the examination session alone fails. The exploration is finished, marked and gone while the student is still in the middle of the syllabus. The predicted grade that universities see is issued off work completed well before any final paper is sat. A student who treats May as the only deadline arrives at February with two unmoved deadlines behind them and no way to recover either.

The table below is the structure of that year rather than a list of dates, and the reason is honesty: ibo.org blocks automated checking, so no IB session or results date on this page has been confirmed from the IB itself. Ask your DP coordinator for the dated version for your cohort, or read it on ibo.org directly, and build your schedule on that. Cambridge and Pearson publish their own timetables for IGCSE and International A Level students, which is useful if you have a younger child on a British route in the same house.

Used properly, the backward count turns a vague worry into a sequence. Count the weeks from today to the school's exploration deadline. Count the weeks from there to the mock window. Count the weeks from the mocks to the session. Each gap gets one job. Most families find that the gap they thought was comfortable is the shortest one on the list.

Where Analysis and Approaches marks go missing between October and March

  • Count lost marks by category before deciding what to teach
  • 'Show that' questions are marked on the steps, so write more lines than feel necessary
  • Write down every calculator input; the method mark follows the writing, not the answer
  • Sketches need asymptotes, intercepts and domain stated every time
  • Proof by induction and HL calculus are the two real knowledge gaps worth teaching from scratch

Mark loss in IB Mathematics is boringly predictable, which is good news: predictable problems are fixable problems. Across DP2 students we work with in Dubai, the same five patterns account for most of the gap between what a student knows and what they score, and four of the five are technique rather than knowledge.

The first is the 'show that' chain. A question gives a result and asks the student to reach it. Marks are awarded for the steps, not the destination, and a student who writes three lines where the mark scheme expects six has forfeited the middle marks even though the final line matches. Paper 1 is dense with these, and because no calculator is permitted, there is nowhere to hide an unshown step.

The second is the unwritten calculator step. On Paper 2 and Paper 3 the graphic display calculator does the arithmetic, and students stop writing down what they asked it to do. An examiner awards method marks for the method that appears on the page. A correct final answer with no visible setup scores the answer mark alone. This single habit is worth several marks a paper and takes about three weeks to change.

The third is sketching. Curve sketches drawn without asymptotes, intercepts, stated domain or turning points lose marks that the underlying algebra had already earned. The fourth is the HL multi-part problem: students attempt part (b) by guessing rather than deriving, which contaminates (c) and (d). The fifth, and the only genuine knowledge gap, is proof by induction and the HL calculus extension, where a term of sequenced teaching is the only remedy.

A diagnostic in the first session separates these. We mark two recent papers against the published scheme and count which of the five categories each lost mark belongs to. Families are usually surprised: the student they thought needed more calculus often needs three weeks of method recording and then nothing else.

04

Papers, weightings and what each one actually rewards

A Dubai Hills Estate parent planning a term of tuition needs the weightings in front of them, because the weightings decide where an hour is best spent. The structure is the same for both IB Mathematics courses and differs between Standard and Higher Level in a way that changes the whole revision strategy.

At Standard Level there are two papers, each worth two fifths of the grade, plus the exploration at one fifth. At Higher Level there are three papers, worth three tenths, three tenths and one fifth, plus the exploration at one fifth. The arithmetic matters: at HL, Paper 3 and the exploration together are worth as much as Paper 1, and Paper 3 is the component students practise least because schools often reach it last.

The difference between the two courses is the calculator. In Analysis and Approaches, Paper 1 is sat with no technology at all, which makes algebraic fluency a scoring component in its own right. In Applications and Interpretation the graphic display calculator is permitted throughout, which moves the difficulty from manipulation to interpretation: the marks sit in explaining what a model means in context, and an answer that stops at the number stops short of the marks.

Read the table as a spending guide. If your child is at HL and has never sat a full Paper 3 to time, that is the highest-yield hour available. If they are at SL in Analysis and Approaches and rely on a calculator for routine algebra, Paper 1 practice without one is the highest-yield hour. These are different problems with different fixes, and a tutor who runs the same lesson for both is not reading the weightings.

05

The exploration, criterion by criterion

No competitor page we found names a single IB assessment criterion by letter, which is strange, because the criteria are published, they are what the teacher marks against, and they tell a student exactly where the twenty marks are. A Dubai Hills Estate student who has read them before choosing a topic writes a different exploration from one who reads them after the first draft comes back.

The most common failure is not weak mathematics but mathematics in the wrong place. Criterion E rewards mathematics that is relevant, commensurate with the level of the course, and correct. A statistical survey of classmates' sleeping habits analysed with a mean and a bar chart is commensurate with nothing; the same survey with a chi-squared test, stated hypotheses, a discussion of assumptions and a reflection on sample bias is an exploration. The topic did not change. The mathematics did.

The second failure is reflection treated as a conclusion. Criterion D is not a summary of what was done; it is critical, forward-looking commentary about the limitations of the approach and what a better version would do. Students write 'in future I would use a larger sample' and consider the criterion addressed. Reflection that earns full marks is woven through the work, not appended to it.

What a tutor does here has a hard boundary and it is worth stating plainly, because two pages ranking for these queries sell completed Internal Assessments outright. The exploration must be the student's own work. We teach the mathematics it requires, ask the questions a moderator would ask, and give written feedback on a draft the student has written. We do not write, draft, rewrite or supply any part of it. Submitting work that is not your own is academic malpractice under IB rules and the consequence falls on the student, not the tutor.

What IB maths tuition costs around Dubai Hills Estate, and how to read the rates

Three of the six competitor pages we examined for this query publish no price at all, and two of the three that do quote in US dollars, which is not the currency a Dubai Hills Estate family transacts in. So here are the market bands in dirhams, attributed to whoever published them, as of October 2026.

At the bottom, online tutoring from university students and generalist platforms runs from roughly AED 33 to 150 an hour, with Tutopiya advertising from AED 33 to 52 and EdFlik from AED 45 to 65. A qualified subject tutor working online sits between AED 150 and 300, which is where Unitors prices IGCSE from AED 150 and IB from AED 200. Specialist IB, IGCSE and A Level tutors run from AED 200 to 450 and above, with TutorChase publishing AED 270 and the Bestimate rate survey for Dubai putting specialists at AED 200 to 450 or more. A named or examiner-level tutor can reach AED 650, which is BartyED's published figure. In-home visits carry the travel premium: Bestimate puts them at AED 180 to 350, and independent home tutors quote AED 200 to 500.

Two things follow from those numbers. First, the in-home premium buys travel, not teaching: the same qualified tutor costs more because an hour of their day is spent driving, and in the Dubai Hills to Al Barsha corridor at 16:30 that can be most of an hour. Second, hourly rate is a poor comparison unit on its own. A session that includes written notes, marked work between lessons and a plan against your school's deadlines is not the same product as sixty minutes of conversation at the same price.

We do not publish an IB Gram rate card on this page, for the straightforward reason that the right figure depends on level, subject combination and how many weeks are left. The first lesson is free, the plan is written down before anything is paid for, and the quote comes with that plan. Monthly packages visible in this market for context: around AED 799 a month for eight online sessions, and AED 1,599 to 1,799 a month for four two-hour in-home sessions.

Fitting a session around the Dubai Hills school run, half-terms and Ramadan

  • A 16:30 to 17:30 slot is reachable online and rarely reachable by car in this corridor
  • Lessons continue through travel in the holidays with the slot shifted for the time zone
  • Ramadan sessions move to after Iftar, arranged before the month starts
  • The fortnight before school mocks is the highest-value tuition of the term
  • Two shorter weekly sessions often beat one long one for students on long bus runs

The scheduling question decides more tutoring outcomes than the teaching question, and it is the one competitor pages skip entirely. A Dubai Hills Estate DP student whose bus returns from Al Barsha South at 15:50, eats, and has a sibling collected at 16:20 has a genuine window from about 16:40. Push a lesson to 19:30 and you are teaching calculus to a tired sixteen-year-old who still has homework. Put it at 16:40 and you are teaching the same student with two useful hours still ahead of them.

Online delivery is what makes the earlier slot possible, and that is the whole practical case for it in this community rather than any claim about learning styles. Nobody drives from Al Quoz to Dubai Hills at 16:15 and arrives reliably. A video lesson starts when the student sits down. The same logic applies in reverse during the school holidays, when Dubai Hills families travel: a student in London, Mumbai or Amman keeps the same tutor and the same plan, with the slot shifted for the time difference rather than cancelled.

The UAE calendar then imposes its own shape. The academic year runs from late August or early September to late June or early July, with a winter break around the turn of the year and a spring break in the second term. Ramadan compresses the school day and moves the household's evening entirely: lessons that ran at 17:00 work better after Iftar, and many families prefer two shorter sessions to one long one for that month. We shift slots for Ramadan as a matter of course rather than as an exception, and we ask about it in advance instead of waiting for a cancellation.

The last piece is the mock window. Schools in this belt tend to run DP mocks in the term before the examination session, and the fortnight before them is when a weekly hour is worth most. Families who pause tuition during mocks because the week looks busy usually lose the single most useful session of the term.

08

How lessons are delivered to Dubai Hills Estate, stated plainly

This page targets a phrase parents type, and parents in Dubai Hills Estate type things like home tutor and tutor near me because that is how the question forms in your head. The honest answer is that IB Gram does not offer home visits in Dubai or anywhere else in the UAE, and never has; home visits are a service we run only in India. Every UAE lesson is one-to-one and live over video, with a shared whiteboard, the student's own book on camera and recorded notes afterwards.

We would rather make the case than bury it. A Dubai Hills Estate family hiring within driving distance is choosing from the mathematics teachers who happen to live twenty minutes away and have a free evening. Online, the same family is choosing from Analysis and Approaches HL specialists wherever they are, which matters most for the narrow requests: Paper 3 technique, proof by induction, an exploration built on a chi-squared test, or Applications and Interpretation HL, which fewer teachers have actually taught. Specialism beats proximity for exactly the problems a tutor is hired to solve.

There are honest trade-offs and the comparison table names them. A video lesson needs a quiet corner and a charged laptop, which is harder in a shared apartment in Sports City than in a Dubai Hills villa study. Younger children need a parent nearby for the first few sessions. A tutor on screen cannot confiscate a phone. What a video lesson does give you is a visible session you can hear from the next room, written notes you can read, and the ability to change tutor after one lesson without an awkward conversation at your own front door.

On the legal position, which no competitor page explains properly: an individual providing private lessons in the UAE needs a private tuition work permit from MoHRE, introduced by Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023. It is granted free of charge for two years, and eligible applicants include registered school teachers, government and private-sector employees, unemployed residents, university students and school students aged 15 to 18. Tutoring without one carries fines and penalties under the applicable laws; the schedule of amounts is not published, so treat any page quoting a specific figure with caution. Abu Dhabi's ADEK rules additionally bar school staff from paid tutoring of students at their own school, and the MoHRE code of conduct carries the same restriction, so 'your child's own teacher, privately' is not a service anyone should be offering you.

KHDA, the Ministry of Education and the paperwork nobody explains

  • KHDA inspects whole schools on a six-band scale; subject strength varies inside a band
  • Dubai's 2026-27 intake adds seven schools and 16,846 places, three of them IB
  • Arabic, Islamic Education and Social Studies are mandatory alongside the IB and take real timetable room
  • British-track equivalency needs five IGCSE subjects at E or 3, excluding Arabic and Islamic education
  • No IB points figure for equivalency is published here because none has been verified on an official source

Dubai's private schools are licensed and inspected by KHDA, the Knowledge and Human Development Authority, which is responsible for enhancing and overseeing the quality of private education in the emirate. Inspections report on a six-band scale from Outstanding down to Very Weak. A Dubai Hills Estate family comparing two schools across Al Barsha and Al Quoz is usually comparing inspection bands without knowing that the band is a whole-school judgement: a school rated Good can have an Outstanding mathematics department and the reverse is equally possible. Ask about the subject, not just the band.

The emirate's scale explains why this market behaves as it does. Dubai had 387,441 private-school students across 227 private schools offering 17 curricula in 2024-25, with UK curriculum schools accounting for the largest share of enrolment and the International Baccalaureate a much smaller slice. KHDA confirmed in May 2026 that there would be no increase in private school fees for the 2026-27 academic year under Dubai's second economic incentives package, and the 2026-27 intake adds seven new private schools, four UK curriculum and three IB, creating 16,846 new places. More IB places nearby means more DP1 students arriving from non-IB backgrounds, which is precisely the cohort that needs bridging work in mathematics.

Alongside the licensed curriculum, Arabic, Islamic Education and Social or Moral Studies are mandatory in all Dubai private schools whatever the international programme, and KHDA requires separate classes for Arabs and non-Arabs in Arabic as a first language, Islamic Education and Social Studies, with combined classes prohibited because the curriculum expectations and the language of instruction differ. Instructional time is calculated on a 40-minute lesson unit. This is a real part of a Dubai Hills Estate student's week and it competes with mathematics for revision time, which is worth factoring into a plan rather than discovering in March.

Finally, equivalency. Families planning on a UAE university need Ministry of Education equivalency for the school certificate, and the published requirements differ by curriculum. For the British track, students must show five accredited subjects in GCSE or IGCSE at no less than grade E or grade 3, with Arabic and Islamic education excluded from that count, plus one accredited subject at Advanced Level at grade E or two at Advanced Subsidiary Level. One competitor page states six IGCSE subjects are required, which is wrong. For the IB there is no points threshold we have been able to read on an official source, so we publish none: check moe.gov.ae or the emirate's attestation authority directly. Equivalency is a process you complete with the Ministry, not something a tutoring service performs or influences, and no tutoring is required for it.

Where we tutor

Dubai Hills Estate and the communities around it

Dubai Hills Estate sits in the middle of a belt of villa and townhouse communities that share schools, buses and the same evening traffic. These are the neighbouring areas whose DP families book the same sessions, with what differs for each.

Dubai Hills Estate

Villas, townhouses and apartment clusters around the park and the mall, with school buses feeding Al Quoz, Al Barsha South and Meydan. Most DP sessions here start between 16:30 and 17:30.

Arabian Ranches

Older villa community to the south with its own primary school on site, so younger children have short journeys while DP students commute further. Evening sessions here often run later, from 18:00.

Arabian Ranches 2

Mostly families with children spread across more than one school, which makes a fixed weekly slot per child more valuable than a flexible one. Jumeirah English Speaking School in the Ranches is a common destination.

Arabian Ranches 3

Newer and still filling, so school allocations are spread widely across Dubailand and Al Barsha. Bus journeys of fifty minutes each way are normal, which pushes sessions past 18:00.

Motor City

Apartment-heavy with GEMS Metropole on the doorstep, so a British-curriculum IGCSE cohort sits alongside DP students bused out to IB schools. Mixed timings in the same building are usual.

Dubai Sports City

A dense apartment population with Victory Heights Primary nearby and secondary students travelling out. Shared study space at home is tighter here, so lessons often use a bedroom desk and headphones rather than a study.

DAMAC Hills

Villa community off Umm Suqeim Street with a long single access route, which is what makes a 16:00 arrival unreliable for anyone driving in. Online slots at 16:30 hold steady regardless.

Town Square and Mudon

Furthest out of this group, with the longest bus runs and the latest realistic start times. DP students here often prefer two shorter weekday sessions to one long weekend block.

Al Barsha South and Al Quoz

Not residential neighbours so much as the school belt Dubai Hills feeds into, which is why pick-up times here set the evening schedule for families living several kilometres away.

School ecosystem

IB and Cambridge school communities we support in Dubai Hills Estate

The Al Quoz and Al Barsha school belt

These are the schools most often named by Dubai Hills Estate families when they book IB Mathematics support. Each is licensed and inspected by KHDA, and each publishes its own inspection rating, which is worth reading before you draw conclusions from a single mock result.

  • GEMS Wellington Academy Al Khail
  • Dubai International Academy Al Barsha
  • GEMS Dubai American Academy
  • Kings' School Al Barsha
  • Repton Al Barsha
  • Dubai Heights Academy
  • Nord Anglia International School Dubai

Meydan, Sobha Hartland and the Dubailand belt

The second cluster Dubai Hills buses reach, and the one that has grown fastest. Students we support attend these schools; IB Gram has no relationship with any of them and no view on which you should choose.

  • Hartland International School
  • North London Collegiate School Dubai
  • Kent College Dubai
  • GEMS Metropole School Motor City
  • Jumeirah English Speaking School Arabian Ranches
  • Fairgreen International School

Schools are named here only as context for the communities this page serves; IB Gram claims no affiliation, partnership or endorsement from any of them, and none of them is a client.

How matching works

From first enquiry to a tutor who fits

  1. 01

Send the dates, not just the subject

Tell us the level, the course, the school, and the two dates that matter: the school's exploration deadline and the examination session your child is entered for. Those four facts are enough to say whether we have a specialist free and what an eight-week block should contain.

  2. 02

    A free diagnostic lesson

Sixty minutes with the tutor who would teach the block, paid for by nobody. The student brings two marked mock papers and any exploration notes. The tutor marks where the losses are by category rather than asking how the student feels about maths.

  3. 03

    A written plan dated backwards

You receive the plan in writing: which topics, which papers, which weeks, and what the exploration work has to achieve before the school deadline. If the plan concludes that a level conversation with the DP coordinator matters more than tuition, it says so in the first paragraph.

  4. 04

Weekly lessons with work in between

A fixed slot on Gulf Standard Time, a short written exercise between sessions, and notes you can read. Every session starts by marking the exercise, which is how a tutor knows whether last week stuck before building on it.

  5. 05

    Reviewed at the mock window

After school mocks the plan is rewritten against the new paper evidence. Topics that stopped costing marks come off the list. New ones go on. This is also the natural point to stop if the gap has closed, and we will tell you when that has happened.

  6. 06

Change the tutor, not the plan, if the match misses

A mathematics specialist who is right for an Applications and Interpretation modelling exploration may be wrong for Analysis and Approaches HL proof work. Say so after one lesson and we move the student to a different tutor and keep the plan. No explanation owed to anyone.

Why families choose us

What UAE parents tell us matters most

The calendar is the plan

Every block starts from your school's dates and the examination session rather than from a generic syllabus sweep. Dubai Hills Estate families consistently find the exploration deadline is nearer than they thought and the mock window is where a term is won or lost.

Specialist by course and level, not by subject label

Analysis and Approaches HL and Applications and Interpretation HL are different teaching jobs. We match on the course and level your child actually sits, and on the specific gap, rather than assigning whoever is listed under mathematics.

A hard line on assessed work

A tutor teaches the mathematics, questions the reasoning and gives feedback on the student's own draft. We do not write, redraft or supply any part of an exploration. That line is where several pages competing for this query have chosen to stand on the wrong side.

Figures that carry a source and a date

Every dirham figure on this page is attributed to the organisation that published it, with October 2026 as the reading date. We publish no satisfaction percentage, no average score and no star rating, because we cannot show you the underlying data for any of them.

Scheduling built for this corridor

Slots from 16:30, shifted after Iftar during Ramadan, held through family travel in the holidays, and two shorter sessions instead of one long one for students on the longer Dubailand bus runs. Delivery is online, which is what makes the early slot reachable at all.

An honest answer when tutoring is the wrong spend

Sometimes the right move is a level change, a conversation with the DP coordinator, or the school's own support sessions, which cost nothing. We say that in the first lesson. A family told the truth in October is a family that comes back in January.

Questions parents ask

IB and IGCSE tutoring in Dubai Hills Estate: your questions answered

How many weeks before the May session is it too late to start IB maths tutoring in Dubai Hills Estate?+

It is never too late to improve paper technique, but what can change narrows sharply. With twelve weeks or more, topic repair and timed-paper work both fit. With six to eight weeks, choose one: either two or three topics taught properly, or full-paper technique and method recording. With under four weeks, the only realistic work is examination technique, command terms and calculator discipline, which can still be worth several marks a paper. What cannot be rescued late is the exploration, because that deadline is set by the school months earlier and will not move.

My son is in DP2 near Dubai Hills Estate and still has no exploration topic. What should happen this week?+

Topic choice this week, not next. The viable topics are the ones where he can get real data or a real model and apply mathematics at the level of his course. Criterion C rewards personal engagement, which cannot be added later, so the topic should connect to something he actually does. Criterion E carries six of the twenty marks and needs mathematics commensurate with the course, which rules out anything that ends at a mean and a bar chart. Book a single session to test two or three candidate topics against the criteria before he commits to one.

Can an IB maths tutor help with the exploration without writing any part of it?+

Yes, and that is the only version we offer. A tutor can teach mathematics the exploration needs beyond the class syllabus, check whether the aim is answerable, ask the questions a moderator would ask, and give written feedback on a draft the student has written. A tutor cannot write, redraft, edit to completion or supply text, data or analysis. Submitting work that is not the student's own is academic malpractice under IB rules and the penalty falls on the student. Any service offering a completed Internal Assessment is selling your child a disciplinary risk.

Should my daughter move from Analysis and Approaches HL to SL, and when is the last sensible moment?+

That decision belongs to your daughter and her DP coordinator, because the school holds the entry and the timetable. What a tutor can contribute is evidence: whether the marks lost are knowledge gaps that a term of teaching closes, or whether the HL calculus and proof content is genuinely out of reach alongside her other five subjects. Make the call early in DP2 rather than after the mocks, because option changes get harder once final entries are submitted. A student scoring consistently at a 3 in HL in January is usually better served by a strong SL grade.

How many IB maths sessions a week does a DP2 student in this part of Dubai usually take?+

One weekly hour is the normal starting point and is enough when the problem is a specific topic or technique. Two sessions a week make sense in two situations: an exploration deadline inside the next month, where one session handles the exploration and the other keeps pace with class content, or the run into mocks, where one session sits a paper and the other marks and repairs it. More than two weekly hours in one subject rarely helps, because the limiting factor becomes the student's own practice time rather than teaching.

What does IB maths tuition cost per hour around Dubai Hills Estate in 2026?+

Published Dubai market figures as of October 2026: budget online platforms from roughly AED 33 to 150, with Tutopiya advertising AED 33 to 52 and EdFlik AED 45 to 65; qualified online subject tutors AED 150 to 300, with Unitors pricing IB from AED 200; IB and IGCSE specialists AED 200 to 450 and above, with TutorChase at AED 270 and the Bestimate Dubai survey at 200 to 450+; premium named tutors up to AED 650 at BartyED. In-home visits run AED 180 to 500 because the rate carries travel. Those are market rates, not ours; our quote follows the free first lesson and the written plan.

Does IB Gram send a maths tutor to a villa in Dubai Hills Estate?+

No. IB Gram does not offer home visits in Dubai or anywhere else in the UAE; home visits are a service we run only in India. Every UAE lesson is one-to-one and live over video, with a shared whiteboard, the student's own working on camera and written notes afterwards. The practical gain is specialism: instead of choosing among mathematics teachers who live a short drive from Dubai Hills Estate and have that evening free, you choose an Analysis and Approaches or Applications and Interpretation specialist at the exact level your child sits, and the 16:30 slot is actually reachable.

What time can a lesson start if the bus gets back to Dubai Hills Estate at 15:50?+

Most families here settle on 16:30 or 17:00. That leaves time to eat and change, and it finishes early enough that homework still gets done and the student is not working at 21:00. Slots run to about 21:00 on school nights for older students who have co-curricular commitments, and weekend mornings work well for exploration sessions that need a longer unbroken block. During Ramadan the same lesson usually moves to after Iftar. Because delivery is online, none of these times depends on anyone completing a drive through the Al Quoz corridor at rush hour.

For engineering at a UAE university, is Analysis and Approaches or Applications and Interpretation the right course?+

Check the specific programme's published entry requirements rather than relying on a general rule, because UAE universities set their own. The broad pattern is that engineering, physics, mathematics and economics degrees commonly expect Analysis and Approaches, often at Higher Level, because of the calculus and algebra content, while Applications and Interpretation suits business, design, social sciences and health routes. Ask the admissions page of each target university and ask your DP coordinator what the school can timetable, then decide. A tutor can explain the content difference; only the university can tell you what it accepts.

How is Paper 3 different from Paper 1 and Paper 2 at Higher Level?+

Paper 3 is sixty minutes long, worth a fifth of the Higher Level grade, and consists of two compulsory extended problems rather than a spread of shorter questions. Each problem builds in stages, so part (c) usually depends on part (b) being right. A calculator is required. The skill it tests is sustaining an unfamiliar argument across twenty or thirty minutes, which is different from recognising a question type. It is also the component schools often reach last, which makes a full timed Paper 3 under examination conditions one of the highest-yield tutoring hours available at HL.

Can lessons shift to after Iftar during Ramadan?+

Yes, and we ask about it before the month starts rather than waiting for a cancellation. School days compress during Ramadan and the household's evening moves entirely, so a lesson that worked at 17:00 generally works better after Iftar. Many families switch from one long weekly session to two shorter ones for the month, because concentration is better in shorter blocks during fasting. The slot returns to its usual time afterwards. Eid and the spring break are planned around in the same conversation, so the plan absorbs the month instead of losing it.

My child's calculator work keeps losing method marks. Can that be fixed in a term?+

Usually in about three weeks. The cause is almost always the same: on Paper 2 and Paper 3 the graphic display calculator produces the number, the student writes the number, and the method that earned the marks never appears on the page. An examiner can only award what is written. The fix is mechanical, not conceptual: define the variables, write the equation or command being solved, then the result, then the answer in context. Practised on five timed papers it becomes automatic, and it is often worth more marks than any new topic taught in the same three weeks.

Do you follow my child's school scheme of work or the IB subject guide?+

Both, in that order of priority. The school's sequence decides what gets taught when, because a lesson that runs three topics ahead of the class is of little use in Thursday's test. The IB subject guide decides the standard and the assessment objectives, which is what keeps the work aimed at the examination rather than at the test. Where they conflict, the school wins on timing and the subject guide wins on depth. Bring the school's scheme of work and the published internal deadlines to the first lesson and the plan is built around them.

Is a maths tutor needed for Ministry of Education equivalency in the UAE?+

No. Equivalency is an administrative process you complete with the Ministry of Education or your emirate's attestation authority, and no tutoring service performs, influences or speeds it up. Anyone implying otherwise is manufacturing urgency about a regulatory process. For the British track the published requirements are five accredited GCSE or IGCSE subjects at no less than grade E or 3, with Arabic and Islamic education excluded from that count, plus one Advanced Level subject at E or two at AS Level. For the IB, verify the requirement on moe.gov.ae directly, because we have found no official source stating a points threshold.

What actually happens in the first three lessons?+

Lesson one is a diagnostic: two marked mock papers are reviewed and each lost mark is sorted into a category, which is knowledge, method recording, command-term misreading, sketching or timing. Lesson two begins the highest-yield category and sets a short written exercise. Lesson three starts by marking that exercise, which is the first real evidence of whether the change is sticking. By the end of lesson three you have a written plan dated back from the examination session and a clear view of whether this tutor is the right match. If not, we change the tutor.

Start from the dates, then decide

If you are looking for an IB maths tutor in Dubai Hills Estate, the most useful thing you can do before contacting anyone is to find two dates: your school's exploration deadline and the examination session your child is entered for. Send those with the course and level, and we will tell you whether we have a specialist free and what the weeks between now and then can realistically achieve. The first lesson is free, the plan arrives in writing before any payment, and online IB maths tuition in Dubai Hills Estate means a 16:30 start is actually possible. If the honest answer is that tuition is not this term's best spend, we will say so.
