IB Tutor near me in Business Bay

Typing IB tutor near me in Business Bay asks Google to sort by distance, which is the one variable that does not affect a Diploma grade. What does affect it is whether the tutor has taught your child's exact subject at the level they are sitting. IB Gram matches on that and runs the lesson live online in Gulf Standard Time, from the canal-side apartment your child already came home to. First lesson free, no card needed.

IB & IGCSE in Business Bay

What a distance search returns, and what it quietly filters out

A "near me" search is a geographic query. The engine reads your location in a canal-side tower, finds businesses and listings with addresses in or around Business Bay, and sorts them by proximity and prominence. That is a sensible way to find a dentist. Applied to IB Diploma tutoring it ranks on the single factor that has no effect on your child's grade, and buries the factor that has the largest effect, which is whether the person on the other side of the table has taught Chemistry HL, or Economics HL, or Maths Analysis and Approaches, to examination standard.

The consequence is not abstract. Suppose your child needs help with Maths AA Higher Level, specifically Paper 3 and the mathematical exploration. That is a narrow specialism within a subject that only a minority of Dubai students take. Now require that the person holding it has an address within twenty minutes of Marasi Drive and a free hour at 6.30pm on a weekday. You have intersected three constraints and the result is very close to empty. What families experience is a sequence of near misses: a maths graduate who has never seen the exploration criteria, an excellent tutor who is full until March, and a generalist who is available immediately because nobody has booked them.

Business Bay makes this sharper than most districts because of what it is. Several hundred towers along the Dubai Canal, no private school inside the boundary, and a resident population that works long hours in the buildings nearby or across the water in DIFC. Children are bussed out to Al Quoz, Oud Metha, Al Safa, Hartland and Meydan, returning between about 4pm and 5pm. The evening window is narrow, every family in the district wants the same part of it, and a tutor who needs forty-five minutes on Al Khail Road to reach you is competing for that window with their own commute.

Removing distance from the filter costs you nothing that affects the lesson and buys you the thing that does. Your child opens a laptop at the hour that suits the bus and works with whoever is genuinely strong in the subject and free then. Past papers are annotated on a shared screen and saved rather than lost in a bedroom. A session can move from Tuesday to Thursday during mock season without anyone writing off a journey. IB Gram does not send tutors to homes anywhere in the UAE; home visits are a service we offer only in India, and we state that rather than letting a parent discover it at booking.

This page is the comparison version of the argument. It sets Business Bay against the districts on either side of it, counts the radius arithmetic honestly, breaks the Diploma into the components that actually need tutoring, explains the regulator map and what a KHDA inspection band means, publishes where our coverage runs thin, and prices a full two-year support plan rather than an hour. The answer it reaches for a Business Bay family turns out to be the same answer a Downtown or DIFC family reaches, which is the useful finding.

At a glance

  • A near-me search ranks on distance, which does not affect a Diploma grade
  • Subject specialism plus a radius plus a fixed hour is an almost empty set
  • Business Bay has no school inside the district; children commute out
  • The evening window is narrow and every family wants the same part of it
  • All lessons run live online, one-to-one, in Gulf Standard Time
IB programmes

Every IB programme stage, mapped to UAE school years

The IB offers four programmes and Dubai schools run three of them. Which one your child is in changes what tutoring should do, and the names are close enough that parents sometimes ask for the wrong one.

DPAges 16-19 · Years 12-13

Diploma Programme

Six subjects, three or four at Higher Level and the rest at Standard, each graded 1 to 7 for a maximum of 42 points, plus up to three further points from the Theory of Knowledge and Extended Essay matrix, giving 45. Alongside the subjects sit TOK, the Extended Essay and CAS, which carry their own deadlines and consume real time without producing subject marks.

Dubai Media Office figures published in January 2025 put the International Baccalaureate at 7% of private-school enrolment across 227 schools and 387,441 students. That is a substantial cohort spread thinly, which is exactly why a Business Bay family searching within a radius finds so few Diploma specialists.

MYPAges 11-16 · Years 7-11

Middle Years Programme

Eight subject groups assessed against four criteria each, marked out of eight and converted to a 1 to 7 grade. There are no percentages and no external examinations in most years, which means a parent reading an MYP report cannot see which skill is weak without asking for the criterion breakdown from the subject teacher.

Families in this corridor sometimes ask for an IB tutor when their child is in MYP rather than the Diploma, and the two need different things. MYP tuition is usually a short criterion-specific block; Diploma tuition is usually a standing weekly arrangement across a term or more.

PYPAges 3-12 · Foundation to Year 6

Primary Years Programme

An inquiry-led primary framework organised around transdisciplinary themes rather than discrete subjects, finishing with the Exhibition in the final year. Assessment is formative and descriptive, so there is no grade for a parent to react to and concerns usually surface through a teacher conversation instead.

For PYP-age children the honest advice is usually that a tutor is not the right intervention, and where it is, an adult in the room genuinely helps. Since IB Gram offers no home visits in the UAE, we will say when another arrangement suits a young child better.

CPAges 16-19 · Years 12-13

Career-related Programme

Two or more Diploma courses taken alongside a career-related study, a reflective project and a personal and professional skills course. The DP subjects are assessed identically to the full Diploma, so subject tutoring is unchanged; what differs is the surrounding workload and the project timeline.

CP cohorts in Dubai are small, and that scarcity is precisely where a local search fails hardest. A tutor who knows DP assessment can teach a CP student competently, and online matching means the small cohort size stops being a barrier.

Subject coverage

IB and IGCSE subjects we tutor

Business Bay Diploma requests cluster in a predictable set of subjects. These are the ones asked for most often, with the component that usually needs the work rather than a general description.

Mathematics: Analysis and Approaches

HL and SL

The most requested DP subject from this district. HL carries a third paper worth 20% of the grade, sat with a calculator on one extended problem. Paper 1 at both levels is sat without a calculator, which exposes algebraic habits that a device had been covering.

Mathematics: Applications and Interpretation

HL and SL

Calculator-permitted throughout and weighted towards statistics and modelling. Chosen by students heading for business, economics or design. The exploration is where most of the recoverable marks sit, and it is usually started too late.

Chemistry

HL and SL

Six themes across Structure and Reactivity with a data booklet supplied for both papers. The mechanism content in Reactivity 3 is core for everyone under the current guide, which is why requests spike in the first autumn rather than the second.

Physics

HL and SL

Five themes with Paper 1 split into multiple choice and a data-analysis section. Paper 1B is the fastest available gain for most students because it is rarely practised as a discrete skill before the examination.

Biology

HL and SL

Rewards precise terminology over general understanding, which catches out students who explain processes correctly in their own words. Common among medicine applicants from this corridor, usually alongside Chemistry HL.

Economics

HL and SL

Unusually popular in Business Bay and DIFC, for obvious reasons. Diagram accuracy carries real marks, the internal assessment commentaries carry more, and HL adds quantitative questions that catch out students who chose the subject for the essays.

Business Management

HL and SL

Application is where marks are lost: students explain a tool accurately and never apply it to the specific organisation in the question. The internal assessment is a research project that rewards an early, narrow choice of organisation.

English A: Language and Literature

HL and SL

The subject most likely to limit a strong scientist's total. Paper 1 is a guided analysis of an unseen text and the Individual Oral is examined internally; both reward a repeatable method rather than more reading.

Theory of Knowledge

Core

An exhibition of three objects with commentaries, plus a 1,600-word essay on a prescribed title. Contributes to the three bonus points alongside the Extended Essay. Coachable in structure and argument; the objects and the writing must be the student's own.

Extended Essay

Core

A 4,000-word independent research piece in a chosen subject, supervised at school. Most Extended Essays that go wrong went wrong at the question stage, which is why scope coaching in the first month is worth more than editing in the last.

How sessions run

Tutoring formats built around UAE school timetables

Three ways Business Bay Diploma families use tutoring, all delivered live online. The choice depends on how many subjects are involved and whether the core or the subjects are the problem.

Single-subject weekly across the two years

One subject, one fixed hour, held from DP1 through to the examinations. This is the arrangement that produces the most reliable movement, because a Diploma subject is a two-year build and a term of support in DP2 is repair work rather than teaching. The tutor follows the school's own topic order.

  • Same tutor and hour weekly in Gulf Standard Time
  • Content tracks the school's scheme of work, not a parallel syllabus
  • Internal assessment deadlines logged at the start of DP1
  • A short note after each session naming the practice to do

Core support: Extended Essay and TOK

Process coaching on the two components that carry the three bonus points and almost no teaching time. The work is scope, argument structure and deadline discipline. Every word of the essay, the exhibition commentaries and the objects chosen remain entirely the student's own.

  • Research question narrowed before 4,000 words are committed
  • TOK essay argument structured against the prescribed title
  • Exhibition objects discussed, never chosen for the student
  • No drafting, editing to completion or text supplied by the tutor

Paper technique intensives before mocks

Short blocks aimed at examined technique rather than content: command terms, timing, and the specific question types a student reliably loses marks on. Booked in holiday weeks when the Business Bay evening window opens up, which means booked early because every family wants the same days.

  • Built on past papers marked to published mark-scheme wording
  • Two targets only, chosen by marks available rather than difficulty
  • Full papers under examination timing, not topic worksheets
  • Honest about what six weeks can and cannot achieve

What IB and IGCSE study actually looks like in Business Bay

01

The radius arithmetic, done properly

It is worth putting numbers on this rather than asserting it. Start with the pool of people in Dubai who could competently teach a named Diploma subject at Higher Level to examination standard. That set is small, because the IB accounts for 7% of private-school enrolment in an emirate of 227 private schools, and because teaching a subject at HL to a student targeting a 7 is a different skill from knowing the subject. Now apply the three filters a near-me search effectively applies.

The first filter is subject. A request for Economics HL cannot be met by a business studies teacher, and a request for Maths AA HL Paper 3 cannot be met by someone who has only taught Applications and Interpretation. Each named subject and level divides the pool. The second filter is the hour. Business Bay bus returns put the usable window at roughly 6pm to 8pm on weekdays, and that is the same window every other family in the district, in Downtown and in DIFC is competing for. The third filter is the radius, and it is the only one of the three that buys you nothing.

Three multiplicative filters on a small starting pool leave almost nothing, and that is why the near-miss sequence is so common in this market. Families conclude that tutoring does not work, when what actually happened is that they applied a filter which eliminated the candidates who could have helped. Dropping the radius restores the first two filters to a pool large enough to satisfy them, and nothing about the lesson changes except that it opens on the minute.

The honest counterweight: a tutor in the room can read a page, notice disengagement and manage a younger child, and for a primary-age student that matters enormously. For a seventeen-year-old working past papers on a shared screen it matters much less than subject depth. IB Gram offers no home visits in the UAE in any case, so this is not a preference dressed as analysis; it is the reason the service is built the way it is.

Business Bay against the districts either side, for an IB family specifically

A comparison is only useful if it could have come out differently, so here is the test. Compare Business Bay with Downtown, DIFC, Al Jaddaf and Meydan on the four things that matter to a Diploma family: how many IB schools sit within a reasonable journey, how much Diploma subject depth is available locally, what hour the child is realistically free, and what a local search actually returns.

On IB school access, Business Bay does reasonably well. The creek-side and Hartland clusters are both within twenty to thirty minutes outside peak, and several of those campuses run the full continuum. Al Jaddaf does better still, with an IB school ten minutes away. Meydan and Nad Al Sheba have campuses inside the district. Downtown and DIFC are identical to Business Bay. So on that measure the districts differ, and it is the measure parents assume matters most.

On Diploma subject depth available locally, they are all the same, and this is the point. Having an IB school nearby does not produce IB subject tutors nearby, because schools employ teachers who are already fully occupied and, in Abu Dhabi explicitly and as a matter of conflict everywhere, should not be tutoring their own students privately. A family in Al Jaddaf with an IB school visible from the balcony has no better access to a Maths AA HL specialist at 6.30pm than a family in a Business Bay tower. The local pack returns agencies with addresses, not subject specialists with availability.

So the comparison that could have differentiated these districts does not. What varies is the clock: Downtown is about thirty minutes earlier, DIFC about thirty minutes later, Al Jaddaf earliest of all. Everything else converges, which is why the answer for a Business Bay family is the answer for the district next door.

Breaking the Diploma into the parts that actually need a tutor

Parents often ask for an IB tutor when what they need is help with two specific components, and buying the whole subject is the expensive version of that. The Diploma is six subjects graded 1 to 7, totalling 42 points, plus up to three points from the Theory of Knowledge and Extended Essay matrix, for a maximum of 45. Each subject carries external examination papers and one internally assessed component. The core sits outside all of it and consumes time without producing subject marks.

Within that structure the tutoring need concentrates in four places. First, the internally assessed component in each subject — the exploration in mathematics, the scientific investigation in the sciences, the commentaries in economics, the oral in languages — because it carries 20% or more of a subject grade and students control it directly. Second, one or two papers where a student consistently underperforms relative to their understanding, which is a technique problem. Third, the Extended Essay question, which is where most failing essays failed. Fourth, HL-only components such as Maths AA Paper 3, which arrive late and get the least practice.

What rarely needs a tutor is content across a whole subject, and schools in Dubai are generally good at delivering it. A student who is genuinely behind on content across six subjects has a workload or study-habit problem rather than six subject problems, and buying six tutors treats the symptom at six times the price. That diagnosis is worth making before anything is booked, and it usually takes one honest conversation and a set of mock papers.

The table below maps each part of the Diploma to who typically needs help with it and what tuition should actually do there. Use it to decide what to buy rather than buying a subject by default.

04

The DP core, and why Business Bay families underestimate it

  • TOK and the Extended Essay contribute up to three points of the 45
  • Most weak Extended Essays failed at the question, not the writing
  • The TOK essay rewards an argument structure subjects never teach
  • CAS fails administratively, and a question in October usually prevents it

Theory of Knowledge, the Extended Essay and CAS produce no subject grade, which is exactly why they get neglected until they become urgent. Together TOK and the Extended Essay contribute up to three points through a published matrix, and those three points decide university offers more often than any single subject improvement does. A student on 36 points who gains the full three is on 39, and that gap matters at selective institutions.

The Extended Essay is a 4,000-word independent research piece in a subject of the student's choosing, supervised at school. Almost every essay that goes badly went badly at the question stage: a question too broad to answer in 4,000 words, or an experimental question that a school laboratory cannot actually answer, producing a literature review where an investigation was promised. Fixing that costs two or three conversations in the first month. Fixing it in the final month is not possible, because the research has already happened.

Theory of Knowledge is an exhibition of three objects with written commentaries, plus a 1,600-word essay on a prescribed title. Students who are strong in their subjects frequently struggle with it, because it rewards a kind of argument their subjects never asked for: holding a claim and a counterclaim in view and reaching a position without collapsing into either. That is coachable in structure, and the structure is most of the available improvement. The objects chosen and every word written must be the student's own.

CAS is not assessed but is required for the Diploma, and the failure mode is administrative rather than intellectual: reflections not recorded, a strand left thin, a supervisor's sign-off chased in the final term. Nothing a tutor does helps with that directly, but a tutor who asks about it in October of DP2 has sometimes prevented a genuine problem, and that is worth a question in a session.

05

Choosing HL and SL, and the mathematics route decision

The subject and level choices made at the end of Year 11 constrain everything afterwards, and in Dubai they are often made in the same fortnight as mock examinations, which is not when a family is thinking clearly. Three or four subjects are taken at Higher Level and the rest at Standard. Higher Level means more content, longer papers, and in several subjects an additional examined component. It does not mean a harder version of the same course in a cosmetic sense; it means a different quantity of work sustained over two years.

The mathematics decision is the one that most often has to be unwound later. Analysis and Approaches is the algebraic and proof-oriented route, with Paper 1 sat without a calculator at both levels and a third paper at Higher Level. Applications and Interpretation permits a calculator throughout and leans towards statistics, modelling and data. Both exist at Higher and Standard Level, giving four possible positions, and the right one depends on the degree your child is heading towards rather than on which looks easier.

The practical guidance is this. Engineering, physics, mathematics and many economics programmes commonly specify Analysis and Approaches, frequently at Higher Level. Business, management, social sciences, design and life sciences more often accept Applications and Interpretation. But programme requirements are set by each institution and change between admission cycles, so the only reliable step is to read the prerequisite page for the specific programme at the specific university, including UAE institutions, before the option form is signed. A tutoring page is not a source for an entry requirement.

The table sets out the four mathematics positions with what each involves. If your child has already chosen and the choice looks wrong, the window for changing it is usually the first few weeks of DP1 and the conversation is with the school, not with a tutor.

Who regulates your child's school, and what an inspection band means

Business Bay families moving between emirates, or comparing a Dubai school against one in Abu Dhabi or Sharjah, discover that the regulator changes and so does what the published rating means. The map is complete and worth knowing. In Dubai, the Knowledge and Human Development Authority is responsible for enhancing and overseeing the quality of private education in the emirate. In Abu Dhabi and Al Ain, the Department of Education and Knowledge supervises the licensing and accreditation of private schools. In Sharjah, the Sharjah Private Education Authority regulates private education. In Ras Al Khaimah, the Department of Knowledge does. And the Ministry of Education plays a pivotal role in supervising private schools in Ajman, Umm Al Quwain and Fujairah.

Those bodies do not all do the same things. Sharjah's and Ras Al Khaimah's authorities approve tuition fees, curricula, programmes, courses, activities and assessment methods, so curriculum approval sits with the emirate regulator there rather than only inspection. At federal level, private schools are not obliged to follow a specific curriculum beyond Arabic language, social studies and Islamic studies, but must adhere to the Ministry's general regulations, which is the rule behind every emirate's mandatory-subject requirement.

KHDA inspects Dubai private schools annually and publishes a rating on a six-band scale running from Outstanding down to Very Weak. What a band tells you is how the school performs against the inspection framework across teaching, attainment, progress, leadership and the mandatory subjects. What it does not tell you is whether the Diploma Chemistry teaching in that school is strong this year, because a whole-school band aggregates across all phases and all subjects. Parents reasonably use the band as a first screen and then ask the Diploma coordinator for subject-level detail.

One thing no inspection band covers is private tutors. KHDA does not inspect or rate individual tutors, and no tutor can hold a KHDA rating. A separate KHDA Educational Services Permit applies to training institutes operating with premises and staff in Dubai; IB Gram holds no such permit and operates no office, centre or branch in the UAE, which is why no address appears on this page.

What a two-year Diploma support plan actually costs

Pricing an hour tells a parent almost nothing about a Diploma, because a Diploma is a two-year commitment and the sensible question is what a plan costs across it. Working from published market rates, Unitors lists IB tuition from AED 200 an hour. One weekly hour in a single subject from the start of DP1 to the examinations is roughly sixty teaching weeks allowing for holidays, so from around AED 12,000 across the two years. Bestimate's Tutoring Cost Dubai 2026 table estimates AED 1,000 to AED 2,000 or more a month for specialist exam-year support, which annualised sits in a similar place for the second year alone.

Most families do not buy that, and most should not. The pattern that produces the best return is narrower: one subject weekly across both years where there is a genuine persistent weakness, plus two short blocks — one for the internally assessed component in whichever subject it matters most, and one for paper technique before the final mocks. On published rates that comes to something in the region of AED 12,000 to AED 16,000 across two years rather than a figure several times larger for six subjects.

The cheaper tiers have a place and it is worth being specific about where. EdFlik advertises from AED 45 to AED 65 an hour and Tutopiya from AED 33 to AED 52. Those rates buy a university student or a generalist, which is reasonable for MYP homework supervision and not reasonable for Maths AA HL Paper 3. At the top, TutorChase quotes AED 270 and BartyED AED 650 for named or examiner-linked tutors; we would add that examiner status should not be accepted without evidence, and that it does not confer access to marking, boundaries or paper content. In-home delivery sits at AED 180 to AED 350 per Bestimate and AED 200 to AED 500 for independent home tutors, with the travel inside the rate.

For household context, KHDA confirmed on 22 May 2026 that private school fees in Dubai would not increase for the 2026-27 academic year, under Dubai's second economic incentives package valued at AED 1.5 billion within a AED 2.5 billion total. Fees are flat; tutoring is the discretionary line. Every figure in this section belongs to the provider named beside it and none is an IB Gram price. We quote after the free trial, once the subject, the level and the frequency are known.

Coverage, matching and the answer when it is no

  • Maths, the sciences, Economics and English A are our strongest coverage
  • Arts, ESS, Global Politics and rarer languages are thinner, and we say so
  • Requested hours cluster between 6pm and 8pm across three districts
  • Some tutors are UAE-resident; others teach from India over live video

Nobody in this market publishes where their coverage runs out, and that is why families go through the near-miss sequence. Ours: Mathematics in both routes, Chemistry, Physics, Biology, Economics, Business Management and English A are well covered at Higher and Standard Level, because they are the highest-volume Diploma subjects in Dubai. Extended Essay and Theory of Knowledge process coaching is well covered. Group 6 arts subjects, Environmental Systems and Societies, Global Politics and the less common languages are thinner, and we will say so before you book.

When a request cannot be matched well the options are a named wait with a date, a different hour where a better-matched tutor is free, or a tutor strong in the adjacent subject with the specific gap stated openly so you can judge it. What we will not do is put a Business Management tutor on an Economics HL request because the subjects look similar from outside, since the papers, the internal assessment and the quantitative demands differ substantially.

Demand is concentrated and worth naming. Across Business Bay, Downtown and DIFC the requested window is roughly 6pm to 8pm on weekdays, because every family is working around the same bus returns. When that window is full for a given subject, saying so is more useful than filling it. A Maths AA HL student put with a generalist loses a term before anyone notices, and a nine-day wait is a better outcome than that.

Two disclosures to close. Some of our Diploma tutors are UAE residents and others teach from India, where our in-home service operates, working with Dubai students over live video in Gulf Standard Time. We do not route UAE families to a non-UAE number while implying a local presence. And IB Gram operates no office, centre or branch in the UAE and sends no tutors to homes anywhere in the country, since home visits are a service we offer only in India.

Where we tutor

Nearby areas we cover around Business Bay

Business Bay sits between Downtown and DIFC in a run of tower districts, with villa communities and school clusters to the south and east. The comparison below is the point of this page, so the areas are described in the terms that actually differ.

Business Bay

Several hundred towers along the Dubai Canal and Marasi Drive, with a Red Line metro station. No school inside the district. Children are bussed out and return between about 4pm and 5pm.

Downtown Dubai

North across the canal, functionally a twin. Same school clusters, same absence of local schools, slightly earlier bus returns, which moves the workable session start forward by around half an hour.

DIFC

A financial free zone with its own courts, though schools across Dubai are regulated by KHDA. Many residents work in the towers above, which pushes requested slots past 7pm more often than in Business Bay.

Sobha Hartland

A school destination rather than a commuter origin, with both IB continuum and British campuses on the development. A large share of Business Bay buses terminate here each morning.

Al Jaddaf

Creek-side, with an IB school within ten minutes and a lower-rise housing mix. The one neighbouring district where a visiting tutor's access is genuinely easy, and the shortest school run in the corridor.

Meydan and Nad Al Sheba

Villa districts with established schools, parking at the door and no security desk. The drive in for a tutor is still forty to fifty minutes at 5.15pm, which is the constraint that does not change with housing type.

Al Quoz and Al Quoz 4

Schools inside the district but slower local roads. Children travel least here and visiting tutors travel worst, which is the opposite of the pattern parents expect.

Mohammed Bin Rashid City

Newer villa developments between Meydan and Al Quoz with schools opening into the area. Dubai's 2026-27 intake adds seven new private schools across the city, four UK curriculum and three International Baccalaureate.

School ecosystem

IB and Cambridge school communities we support in Business Bay

IB Diploma campuses within reach of Business Bay

The schools named most often in Diploma enquiries from the canal-side towers. Some run the full IB continuum from PYP, others offer the Diploma alongside an IGCSE or A Level route, which changes what a request for an IB tutor actually means.

  • Swiss International Scientific School Dubai
  • North London Collegiate School Dubai
  • GEMS Modern Academy
  • Deira International School
  • Jumeirah Baccalaureate School
  • Clarion School

British-curriculum campuses the same families use

Schools in Hartland, Meydan and Al Safa running IGCSE into A Level, sometimes alongside IB programmes. Business Bay families frequently hold both routes open until the Year 11 option deadline, so these campuses appear in Diploma conversations too.

  • Hartland International School
  • Kent College Dubai
  • Safa British School
  • Safa Community School
  • Horizon English School

Older central campuses east of the canal

The Oud Metha, Al Garhoud and Al Jaddaf belt, around twenty minutes from Marasi Drive outside peak hours and considerably longer at 3.30pm. A mix of curricula and some of the longest-established school communities in Dubai.

  • Ambassador School Dubai
  • St Mary's Catholic High School
  • Universal American School
  • The Indian High School Dubai
  • Dubai Gem Private School

Schools are named as context for the programme mix around Business Bay. IB Gram has no affiliation, partnership or endorsement arrangement with any school listed here.

How matching works

From first enquiry to a tutor who fits

  1. 01

Decide what you are actually buying

A subject, an internally assessed component, paper technique, or the core. Those are four different purchases with different durations and prices. Most families ask for a subject when a component block would do more for less, and the mock papers usually show which it is.

  2. 02

Send the subject, the level and the component

Economics HL internal assessment is a precise request; IB tutor is not. With the subject, the level, the specific component and the hour your child is realistically home from the bus, we can tell you within a day whether we have a strong match or a thin one.

  3. 03

    Hear an honest coverage answer

If we have a tutor who has taught that subject at that level, we say so. If the match is adjacent rather than exact, we describe the gap so you can decide. A named wait is a legitimate answer and we would rather give it than fill a Maths AA HL slot with a generalist.

  4. 04

Use the free lesson as a subject test

One real lesson at no charge, no card, no obligation. Ask the tutor what the internally assessed component is worth in your child's subject and how it is marked. A precise answer is the signal you are looking for; a vague one means we should rematch.

  5. 05

Fix the hour and log the deadlines

The slot stays at the same time weekly in Gulf Standard Time. In the first session we log the school's internal deadlines for every internally assessed component, because those dates bind and they are set by the school rather than by the IB.

  6. 06

Review on marked papers, not impressions

Progress is read from marked past-paper work and from drafts measured against published criteria. If nothing has moved in six weeks we change the approach or the tutor, instead of letting a standing weekly arrangement run unexamined into DP2.

Why families choose us

What UAE parents tell us matters most

Matched on subject depth, not driving distance

Distance is the one filter that removes good tutors without improving a lesson. We drop it and keep the two that matter: the named subject at the right level, and availability in the hour your child's bus actually permits. That is the whole of the argument and the arithmetic is on this page.

The district comparison tested honestly

Business Bay, Downtown, DIFC, Al Jaddaf and Meydan are compared on IB school access, local subject depth, session timing and what a local search returns. Al Jaddaf and Meydan could have broken the pattern; we show why having an IB school nearby does not produce IB tutors nearby.

Priced as a two-year plan

A Diploma is a two-year commitment, so we price plans rather than hours and show which plan gives the best return. Every figure is attributed to the provider that published it, and we quote our own fee after the trial rather than advertising one.

Coverage limits published, including the thin ones

We name the subjects where our coverage is strong and the ones where it is narrow, with the fallback in each case. That disclosure is uncomfortable to publish and it is the reason families stop running through three tutors before finding one who fits.

The core taken seriously

TOK and the Extended Essay carry three of the 45 points and almost no teaching time. We coach scope, argument and deadlines, and we draw the authorship line clearly: the objects, the research and every word remain the student's own work.

No UAE premises, no home visits, no borrowed authority

IB Gram operates no office in the UAE, sends no tutors to homes here, holds no KHDA or IB approval of any kind, and describes regulators only to explain what they do. Home visits are a service we offer only in India, and all of that is stated before you enquire.

Questions parents ask

IB and IGCSE tutoring in Business Bay: your questions answered

Why does searching for an IB tutor near me in Business Bay return so few real specialists?+

Because a near-me search sorts by distance and prominence, which selects for businesses with local addresses rather than for people who have taught your child's subject at Higher Level. The IB is around 7% of Dubai private-school enrolment, so Diploma specialists are a small pool spread across the city. Require the right subject, a free hour in the Business Bay evening window, and a short drive to Marasi Drive, and you have intersected three filters on a small pool. The listings you see are mostly agencies with addresses, not available subject specialists.

Does having an IB school ten minutes away make it easier to find a Diploma tutor?+

No, and this surprises families in Al Jaddaf and Meydan who assumed it would. Schools employ teachers who are already fully occupied, and tutoring their own enrolled students privately is a conflict that ADEK explicitly prohibits for Abu Dhabi school staff and that the MoHRE permit's code of conduct also addresses. A nearby IB school produces a nearby IB community, not a nearby pool of available tutors. Local Diploma subject depth is effectively the same in Business Bay, Downtown, DIFC, Al Jaddaf and Meydan.

What part of the IB Diploma gives the best return on tutoring money?+

The internally assessed component in whichever subject is weakest, almost always. It carries 20% or more of a subject grade, the student controls it directly, and the marks are won by narrowing the scope early and handling the method properly rather than by knowing more content. After that, paper technique in a subject where your child understands the material and underperforms on the page. Content teaching across a whole subject is usually the most expensive and least necessary purchase, because the school is already doing it.

How many points do TOK and the Extended Essay actually add?+

Up to three, through a published matrix combining the grades awarded for each. Six subjects at a maximum of 7 give 42, and those three take the maximum to 45. Three points is the difference between 36 and 39, which changes which offers are reachable at selective universities. They are also the two components that receive the least timetabled teaching, which is why they get neglected. The Extended Essay is 4,000 words; the TOK essay is 1,600 words on a prescribed title, alongside an exhibition of three objects.

My child chose Maths AI and now wants engineering. What are the options?+

Act immediately and talk to the school rather than to a tutor first. Engineering, physics and mathematics programmes commonly specify Analysis and Approaches, often at Higher Level, while Applications and Interpretation is more often accepted for business, management and design. Requirements are set by each institution and change between cycles, so read the prerequisite page for the specific programme including at UAE universities. A route change is usually only practical in the first weeks of DP1, and after that the conversation becomes which programmes accept AI.

Can a tutor help with the Extended Essay without breaching academic honesty?+

Yes, within a firm boundary. A tutor can discuss candidate research questions and say which are answerable in 4,000 words, point out that an experimental question cannot be answered with the apparatus available, coach the structure of an argument, teach referencing conventions, and give feedback on a draft the student has written. A tutor cannot write any section, redraft to completion, produce the analysis or supply text. Most weak Extended Essays failed at the question stage, so the valuable intervention is in the first month rather than the last.

What does a KHDA inspection band tell me about my child's Diploma teaching?+

Less than parents assume. KHDA inspects Dubai private schools annually and publishes a rating on a six-band scale from Outstanding to Very Weak, assessed against a framework covering attainment, progress, teaching, leadership and the mandatory subjects. That band aggregates across every phase and subject in the school, so it cannot tell you whether Diploma Chemistry is taught well this year. Use the band as a first screen, then ask the Diploma coordinator directly for subject-level results and teacher continuity in the subjects your child is taking.

Which authority regulates private schools in each emirate?+

KHDA in Dubai, which oversees the quality of private education there. ADEK in Abu Dhabi and Al Ain, which supervises licensing and accreditation. The Sharjah Private Education Authority in Sharjah, and the Department of Knowledge in Ras Al Khaimah, both of which also approve tuition fees, curricula, programmes, courses, activities and assessment methods. The federal Ministry of Education supervises private schools in Ajman, Umm Al Quwain and Fujairah. ADEK in particular is named by almost no tutoring provider in this market, which is worth knowing if you are comparing schools across emirates.

What does two years of Diploma tutoring cost in Dubai?+

Working from published rates, Unitors lists IB tuition from AED 200 an hour, so one weekly hour in a single subject from the start of DP1 to the examinations is from around AED 12,000 across roughly sixty teaching weeks. The pattern with the best return we see is that one subject weekly plus two short blocks, which lands around AED 12,000 to AED 16,000. Bestimate estimates AED 1,000 to AED 2,000 or more a month for specialist exam-year support. These are published provider figures rather than IB Gram prices; we quote after the free trial.

Should I pay more for a tutor described as an IB examiner?+

Only if the status is evidenced, and not because of what it is implied to confer. Examiner status does not provide access to marking in progress, unreleased papers or grade boundaries, and any suggestion otherwise should end the conversation. BartyED publishes AED 650 an hour for named or examiner-linked tutors, which is the top of this market. For most students the determining factor is whether the tutor has taught that subject at that level to examination standard and can diagnose a weakness quickly, and that is testable in a single free lesson.

What time should a Diploma session start for a Business Bay student?+

Around 6pm for most families here. Children are bussed out of the district and return between about 4pm and 5pm depending on whether the school is in Al Quoz, Oud Metha, Al Safa, Hartland or Meydan, and two afternoons a week usually carry a co-curricular commitment. Downtown returns run about thirty minutes earlier, so a 5.30pm start works there. DIFC parents more often want a later slot because they work in the towers above. Online delivery means no part of the window is spent on travel at either end.

Do you cover every IB Diploma subject?+

No, and we would rather say so. Mathematics in both routes, Chemistry, Physics, Biology, Economics, Business Management and English A are well covered at Higher and Standard Level, as is process coaching for the Extended Essay and Theory of Knowledge. Group 6 arts subjects, Environmental Systems and Societies, Global Politics and the less commonly taught languages are thinner. When we cannot match well the options are a named wait, a different hour, or an adjacent-subject specialist with the gap described openly so you can judge it.

Is my child too far into DP2 for tutoring to make a difference?+

It depends what you ask it to do. With a short runway there is no time to re-teach a two-year subject, so the work becomes triage: identify the two highest-value gaps from the mock papers, fix command-term responses so the knowledge already there earns full marks, and drill the specific question types that reliably cost marks. That is narrow by design, because narrow is what works in six weeks. Bring the marked mocks to the free lesson and the tutor can name the two targets within the hour.

Do you have a Dubai office we can visit?+

No. IB Gram operates no office, centre or branch anywhere in the UAE, which is why no address appears on this page. A tutoring business with premises and staff in Dubai requires a KHDA Educational Services Permit for a training institute, with initial approval first and annual renewal, and we hold no such permit and do not claim one. Everything we do for a Business Bay family happens live online in Gulf Standard Time, and the free first lesson is the way to test it rather than a meeting.

Are your IB tutors based in the UAE, and does it matter?+

Some are and some are not. A number of our Diploma tutors are UAE residents; others teach from India, where our in-home service operates, and work with Dubai students over live video scheduled in Gulf Standard Time. We do not route UAE families to a non-UAE phone number while implying a local presence, and we claim no UAE premises. What affects your child's lesson is whether the tutor has taught their subject at their level and is awake at the hour that suits the bus, and both are testable in the free lesson.

Drop the radius and send the subject instead

Tell us the subject, the level, the component that is going wrong and the hour your child is realistically home from the bus, and send a marked mock if you have one. We will match a tutor who has taught that subject at that level and run the first lesson at no charge, live online in Gulf Standard Time, with no card and no obligation. Ask them in that hour what the internally assessed component is worth and how it is marked; the precision of the answer is the test. IB Gram sends no tutors to homes anywhere in the UAE.
