IB Physics Tutor in Business Bay

An IB Physics tutor in Business Bay, working one-to-one over live video on Gulf Standard Time. This page is written from the syllabus outwards: the five themes your child is actually examined on, what Paper 1A and Paper 1B each demand, how the 24-mark scientific investigation is marked criterion by criterion, and the specific places a capable Business Bay student still drops marks. Read the subject detail first, then book a free trial lesson and see whether the tutor can diagnose your child's Physics in forty minutes.

IB & IGCSE in Business Bay

What a Business Bay family is usually asking when they search for an IB Physics tutor

Almost nobody searches for an IB Physics tutor in Business Bay in September. The search happens in week six, after the first unit test on kinematics or on the particulate nature of matter comes back at a 4 when the student has always been a 6 elsewhere. Physics is the subject where a strong student can be working hard, understanding the lessons, and still losing marks in a pattern nobody at home can see. That pattern is diagnosable, and diagnosing it is what the first lesson should be for.

Business Bay is a vertical neighbourhood. Executive Towers, Churchill Towers, the Marasi Drive blocks and the towers along the Dubai Water Canal house a lot of Diploma-age students whose schools are somewhere else entirely: Al Jaddaf, Sobha Hartland, Nad Al Sheba, Al Safa, Al Sufouh, Festival City. A student living above Bay Avenue may be on a school bus for fifty minutes each way. That single fact decides more about Physics tutoring here than anything else, because it decides how much usable study time exists between the school gate and bedtime on a weeknight.

The current IB Physics course is organised into five themes rather than the old topic list, and it is examined through two papers plus an internally assessed scientific investigation worth a fifth of the grade. Higher Level is not Standard Level with harder numbers. It is additional content inside every theme, longer papers, and a marked step up in the algebraic fluency the questions assume you already have. Students who coast through SL mechanics on intuition meet a wall in HL fields and in nuclear and quantum physics, where intuition is no help and the mathematics is doing the work.

What a Physics tutor is actually for, in this subject specifically, is three things. The first is command-term discipline: knowing that "state" wants one line and no reasoning, that "explain" wants a mechanism, and that "determine" expects a value with a unit and a visible method. The second is uncertainty and graph work, which carries real marks in Paper 1B and in the IA and which most students have never been taught systematically. The third is past papers under time, marked against the real mark scheme, with the student made to correct their own script rather than watching someone else correct it.

IB Gram delivers all of this to Business Bay as one-to-one online tuition over live video. We do not send tutors to homes anywhere in the UAE; in-home visits are a service we offer only in India. For Physics this is a straightforward advantage rather than a compromise. The pool of people in Dubai who can teach HL fields properly and mark an investigation against the published criteria is small, and it is not distributed by postcode. Online, a family in Business Bay gets the person who knows the syllabus, not the person who can reach the Canal by 5pm.

IB programmes

Every IB programme stage, mapped to UAE school years

Physics in an IB school does not start in Year 12. The thinking a Diploma physicist needs is built in the Middle Years Programme, and the gap between MYP science and DP Physics is where most of the early Diploma damage happens. These are the programmes we support for Business Bay families, and what each one actually needs.

DPAges 16-19 · Years 12-13

Diploma Programme Physics

Two years, Standard or Higher Level, organised into five themes: space, time and motion; the particulate nature of matter; wave behaviour; fields; and nuclear and quantum physics. Assessment is two written papers plus one internally assessed scientific investigation. Higher Level adds content within each theme and sits longer papers. Students normally take Physics alongside Mathematics: Analysis and Approaches or Applications and Interpretation, and the maths choice changes how comfortable the Physics feels.

Business Bay students sit Diploma Physics at schools across the central corridor and beyond: the IB continuum at Al Jaddaf, the Diploma at Sobha Hartland and Nad Al Sheba, and schools further out towards Al Sufouh and Festival City. Dubai's private schools are licensed and inspected by KHDA, which publishes inspection reports school by school; check the current rating on KHDA's own site rather than on any agency page, including this one.

MYPAges 11-16 · Years 7-11

Middle Years Programme Sciences

Integrated sciences assessed against four criteria rather than against content recall: knowing and understanding, inquiring and designing, processing and evaluating, and reflecting on the impacts of science. MYP marks are criterion levels out of 8, not percentages, which parents routinely misread. The experimental design and data-processing criteria are the direct ancestors of the Diploma scientific investigation, and a student weak in them at MYP 5 will be weak in the IA two years later.

The MYP-to-DP transition is the single most requested piece of science tutoring we see from the Downtown and canal-side communities. A Business Bay student moving from MYP 5 science into DP Physics HL has to absorb a new mathematical register and a new assessment language in the same term. Six to eight weeks of bridging work over the summer removes most of that shock and is cheaper than remediation in Year 13.

PYPAges 3-12 · FS1 to Year 6

Primary Years Programme

Inquiry-led, transdisciplinary, with no formal external examination. Science appears inside units of inquiry rather than as a timetabled subject. Tutoring at this stage is almost never about physics content; it is about number fluency, measurement, reading a scale, and writing an explanation that answers the question asked. Those are the skills that later show up as marks in Paper 1B uncertainty questions, which is why primary-stage numeracy work is not a detour from physics.

Several Business Bay families have a Diploma student and a primary-age sibling in the same flat, often at different schools in different directions. Where that is the case we schedule the two students back to back on the same evening so the household loses one slot rather than two, which matters more in a two-bedroom tower apartment than it does in a villa community.

Subject coverage

IB and IGCSE subjects we tutor

This is a Physics page, so the grid below is the Physics course itself: the five themes, the investigation, and the two neighbouring subjects whose weakness most often shows up as a Physics problem. Each line says what the theme assesses and where students in Dubai schools most often lose the marks.

Theme A: Space, time and motion

SL and HL

Kinematics, forces and momentum, work and energy, circular motion, and at HL the rigid-body and relativity extensions. The marks go missing in vector resolution, in sign conventions on deceleration, and in energy questions where students write a formula instead of identifying which energy converted into which.

Theme B: The particulate nature of matter

SL and HL

Thermal energy transfers, the gas laws, the kinetic model, and at HL thermodynamics and entropy. The common failure is temperature-versus-thermal-energy confusion in explanation questions, and unit slips between kelvin and degrees Celsius inside a gas-law calculation that was otherwise correct.

Theme C: Wave behaviour

SL and HL

Simple harmonic motion, wave characteristics, wave phenomena, standing waves and the Doppler effect, with HL extending the phase and diffraction treatment. Students lose marks describing superposition in words rather than in terms of path difference, and on standing-wave questions where the boundary conditions are never stated.

Theme D: Fields

SL and HL

Gravitational and electric fields, magnetic effects of electric currents, motion in electromagnetic fields, and at HL induction and the full field-potential treatment. This is where Higher Level separates from Standard Level most sharply, and where algebraic weakness stops looking like a maths problem and starts costing physics marks.

Theme E: Nuclear and quantum physics

SL and HL

Structure of the atom, radioactive decay, fission, fusion, and at HL quantum physics and the standard model. Taught late in Year 13 and therefore the theme most often half-learned before the exam. Recall-heavy by comparison with the rest of the course, which makes it the cheapest theme to repair in a short run of lessons.

The scientific investigation (IA)

SL and HL, 20% of the grade

One individual investigation marked out of 24 against four criteria: research design, data analysis, conclusion and evaluation. It is the student's own work. A tutor may discuss the physics, question the method, and comment on whether the conclusion is supported by the data. A tutor may not design it, write it or edit it to completion.

Uncertainties, graphs and data analysis

SL and HL, examined in Paper 1B

Absolute and percentage uncertainty, propagation through a calculation, error bars, lines of best fit and worst-fit gradients, and log-linearisation. Almost no student arrives having been taught this systematically, and it is the single highest-yield block of lessons available in the subject because it pays in Paper 1B and in the IA at once.

Mathematics: Analysis and Approaches

HL and SL, taken alongside Physics

The co-requisite that decides whether HL Physics feels hard or impossible. Logarithms, radians, differentiation of trigonometric functions and confident algebraic rearrangement are assumed, not taught, in Physics lessons. When a Physics problem is really an algebra problem, we say so and fix the algebra.

Chemistry

HL and SL

Frequently taken with Physics by Business Bay students aiming at engineering or medicine. The two subjects share the data-analysis and investigation skill set, so uncertainty work done for Physics pays twice. Where a student is sinking in both, we usually start with the shared skills rather than with either syllabus.

How sessions run

Tutoring formats built around UAE school timetables

Three patterns cover almost every Physics request we take from this neighbourhood. All three are delivered one-to-one over live video, with a shared whiteboard and screen sharing so working is visible on both sides. The choice between them is about intensity and timing, not about quality.

Weekly one-to-one, following the school's scheme of work

One or two sixty-minute lessons a week, tracking whichever theme the school is teaching now rather than running a parallel course. This is the pattern for a student who is coping but slipping, and it is the only pattern that catches a problem in the term it appears instead of in the revision period.

  • Lesson topic set by the school's current unit, confirmed each week
  • One past-paper question set between lessons, marked before the next
  • Running list of recurring errors, reviewed monthly with the parent
  • Pauses available for school trips, mock weeks and family travel

Investigation support at the permitted stages

Short blocks of lessons timed to the school's internal deadlines for the scientific investigation. We discuss the physics behind a proposed research question, ask whether the method actually controls what it claims to control, and comment on whether the data support the conclusion drawn. The student designs, performs, processes and writes it.

  • Research-question clinic before the method is fixed
  • Uncertainty and graph work on the student's own measurements
  • One structured feedback pass, consistent with IB academic-honesty rules
  • No drafting, no rewriting, no supplying of data

Exam-run intensive on Paper 1 and Paper 2

A fixed block in the weeks before mocks or the May session, built entirely around timed papers. Each session is a paper or a half paper under exam conditions, then the student marks their own script against the mark scheme while the tutor interrogates the differences. It is the least comfortable pattern and the one that moves grades fastest.

  • Paper 1A and Paper 1B practised separately, because they test different things
  • Paper 2 extended responses marked against command terms
  • Error log by theme, so revision time goes where the marks are
  • Timing discipline measured, not assumed

What IB and IGCSE study actually looks like in Business Bay

01

What an IB Physics tutor in Business Bay actually does in the first three lessons

  • Lesson one: diagnose across themes, do not teach a topic
  • Lesson two: name the pattern in writing, with examples from the student's own work
  • Lesson three: align to the school's teaching order and deadlines
  • Thereafter: one past-paper question set per week, marked before the next lesson

An IB Physics tutor in Business Bay should spend the first lesson diagnosing and almost none of it teaching. The useful opening move is a short mixed set of questions drawn from across the five themes, done out loud with the working visible, so the tutor can see where the student stops: at the physics, at the algebra, at the command term, or at the clock. Those four failures look identical on a report card and need four different responses.

The second lesson should produce a written picture of the pattern. In practice the pattern is rarely exotic. A typical Business Bay Diploma student arrives losing marks in three places at once: resolving vectors in theme A, explaining rather than describing in extended response, and guessing at uncertainty in any question that mentions a gradient. None of those is a knowledge gap. All three are repairable inside six weeks, and all three keep costing marks for two years if nobody names them.

The third lesson is where tutoring stops being general and starts being specific to the school. A student at an IB continuum school in Al Jaddaf and a student at a Diploma school in Sobha Hartland will be on different themes in the same week, with internal investigation deadlines months apart. A tutor who does not ask for the school's scheme of work is teaching a syllabus rather than teaching a student, and the parent is paying for the difference.

02

The five themes, and what Higher Level actually adds to each

The current IB Physics course replaced the old topic-and-option structure with five themes, each taught at Standard Level and extended at Higher Level. The practical consequence for a Business Bay parent is that you can no longer tell from a topic title whether your child is doing the SL or the HL version of it. Both levels study fields; only one of them studies induction and the full potential treatment.

The table below sets out what each theme covers and what the Higher Level extension adds, together with the error that costs students the most marks in that theme. It is deliberately specific. A tutor who can tell you that your child's problem is sign convention in theme A rather than "mechanics" is a tutor who can fix it in two lessons.

Note the asymmetry. Themes A and D carry the heaviest Higher Level extensions and the greatest mathematical load, and together they account for most of the HL-versus-SL grade gap we see in Dubai cohorts. Theme E is the lightest extension relative to its examinable content, which is why a student two months out from the May session is usually better served securing theme E than attempting to rebuild theme D from scratch. Confirm the current content of each theme against the subject guide your child's school issues, since the IB revises guides on a published cycle.

One further point about teaching order, which matters more here than it would in a single-school town. Business Bay students are spread across six or seven schools in four directions, and those schools do not teach the themes in the same sequence. One may open Year 12 with theme A and leave fields until the spring; another runs theme B and theme C first so the laboratory work lines up with its own timetable. A tutor who assumes syllabus order will be a term out of step with the class by November. We ask for the school's scheme of work in the first week and follow that, which is why the brief you send us should name the school rather than just the level.

03

Paper 1A, Paper 1B and Paper 2: three different skills on two papers

IB Physics is assessed through two written papers and one internally assessed investigation. The investigation carries a fifth of the grade at both levels. What catches students out is that Paper 1 is really two papers stapled together: a multiple-choice section and a data-analysis section that share a time allocation but share almost no skills. Students who revise "Paper 1" as one thing routinely under-prepare the half that is easier to improve.

Paper 1A is multiple choice, no marks for working, and rewards accuracy under time more than depth. Paper 1B is data based: a given experiment, real measurements, and questions about uncertainty, gradients and whether a conclusion is supported. That section is learnable in a way that the rest of the course is not, because the question types repeat. Paper 2 is extended response and is where command terms decide the mark: a question that says "outline" and receives three paragraphs scores the same as one that receives one correct line, and takes six times as long.

The weightings and durations below follow the current subject guide for first assessment under the present syllabus. Treat them as the shape of the assessment rather than as a quotation, and confirm the exact figures against the guide your child's school issues or against the IB's own subject page, since the IB revises both guides and timings on a published cycle.

There is a scheduling consequence to this that affects how we plan lessons for a commuting student. Paper 1B work can be done in short bursts, because the question types are small and self-contained: one gradient, one uncertainty, one evaluation of a stated conclusion. Paper 2 work cannot. A Paper 2 question needs a clear forty minutes and a student who is not already exhausted, which in Business Bay means it belongs in the lesson slot itself rather than in weeknight homework after a fifty-minute bus ride. So we tend to put Paper 2 practice inside the session and leave Paper 1B sets as the work between lessons. That split is not a style preference; it follows directly from what each component demands of a tired student at eight in the evening.

04

Where Business Bay students actually lose Physics marks

  • Command term misread: answering "explain" when the paper asked "state"
  • Uncertainty and gradient work never taught systematically
  • Formula-first reflex instead of identifying the physical situation
  • Unit and prefix slips surviving an otherwise correct calculation
  • Theme E half-learned because it is taught last and revised last

After enough diagnostic lessons the errors stop being individual and start being a short list. The first and largest is command-term failure. Physics mark schemes pay for specific actions, and a student who writes a good explanation to a question that asked them to state a value has produced nothing the examiner can award. This is not a physics weakness at all, which is why it survives years of hard work: the student revises content, the content was never the problem.

The second is uncertainty. Ask a Diploma Physics student to state the percentage uncertainty in a gradient and the room goes quiet far more often than it should. The topic appears in Paper 1B every session and in the IA's data-analysis criterion, so it is the highest-value six lessons available in the subject, and almost nobody arrives having had them. A tutor who starts a Business Bay student on advanced theme D problems before checking uncertainty is leaving easier marks on the table.

The third is specific to commuting students, and it is time. A student on a bus from Business Bay to Al Sufouh and back is losing ninety minutes a day. The realistic consequence is that homework physics gets done late and tired, errors get embedded rather than corrected, and the student arrives at a 7pm lesson already spent. We plan around this by making the lesson itself the hard-thinking slot and keeping between-lesson work to one bounded question set rather than an open revision instruction, which is honest about how much weeknight capacity exists in a tower apartment in term time.

05

The scientific investigation: four criteria, 24 marks, and what a tutor may touch

The Physics internal assessment is one individual scientific investigation, marked out of 24 against four criteria, and it carries a fifth of the final grade at both Standard and Higher Level. Those four criteria are research design, data analysis, conclusion and evaluation. Students lose most of their IA marks in the last two, because the first two feel like work and the last two feel like filling in a form. They are not: evaluation is where a marker looks for genuine engagement with what went wrong and why.

There is a hard boundary around what help is permitted, and it matters more here than anywhere else on this page. Under IB academic-honesty rules the investigation must be the student's own work. A tutor may discuss the physics, question whether a method controls what it claims to control, explain how uncertainty propagates, and say whether a conclusion is supported by the data in front of them. A tutor may not choose the research question, design the method, process the data, draft any section, or edit a draft to completion. IB Gram does not write coursework, and any provider offering to supply a finished investigation is offering your child a malpractice finding.

The practical sequence we use is therefore front-loaded. Most of the value sits before the data exists, in the lesson where the student explains their proposed method out loud and discovers that the variable they planned to control is not actually controlled. Fixing that costs one lesson at the planning stage and is unfixable after the measurements are taken. The mark allocations below are the published criterion structure for the science investigation; confirm the current version against the subject guide your school issues.

What a Physics tutor costs in Dubai, and why the specialist band sits where it does

Physics at Higher Level sits at the top of the Dubai tutoring market, and it is worth understanding why before looking at the numbers. The pool of people who can teach theme D properly and mark an investigation against the published criteria is small. Scarcity, not prestige, is what puts specialist IB science at the upper end of the published bands, and it is why the gap between a general science tutor and an HL Physics specialist is wider in this subject than in almost any other.

The figures below are market rates published by other providers and by Bestimate's Tutoring Cost Dubai 2026 rate table. They are not IB Gram's price list. Reading them from the top down: a premium named or examiner-marketed tutor is advertised at AED 650 by BartyED; the specialist IB and IGCSE band runs roughly AED 200 to 450 and above, with TutorChase publishing AED 270 and Bestimate quoting AED 200 to 450 and above; a qualified subject tutor online runs AED 150 to 300, with Unitors listing IGCSE from AED 150 and IB from AED 200; and budget online provision starts far lower, EdFlik from AED 45 to 65 and Tutopiya from AED 33 to 52. In-home one-to-one visits, travel included, are quoted at AED 180 to 350 by Bestimate and AED 200 to 500 by independent home tutors.

Two things follow for a Business Bay family. First, the cheapest band and the specialist band are not the same product, and for HL Physics the difference is whether the tutor can mark theme D work at all. Second, the in-home premium is not a quality premium; it is a travel premium, and on a canal-side commute it buys nothing a parent wants. For context on the wider cost picture, KHDA confirmed in May 2026 that private school fees in Dubai would not rise for the 2026-27 academic year, under an economic incentives package reported at AED 1.5 billion. Rather than publishing our own rate card, we run a free trial lesson and quote after it. Ask any provider what an hour costs, whether the figure includes VAT, and what the cancellation terms are, in writing, before you book a block.

Online versus an in-home Physics tutor in Business Bay

Parents in Business Bay do search for a home tutor, and the question deserves a straight answer rather than a sales pitch. In-home tutoring in Dubai is a real market, priced at roughly AED 180 to 500 per hour inclusive of travel according to the figures above, and it suits some families: a younger child who will not sit still at a screen, or a household that wants a visible adult presence during the session. For a Diploma Physics student it is usually the wrong trade.

The reason is pool size. Business Bay is twenty minutes from Downtown on a clear road and considerably more at 6pm on Sheikh Zayed Road or Al Khail Road. Any tutor who commits to arriving at a Business Bay tower by 6pm has effectively limited themselves to clients within one short drive, and your child has effectively limited themselves to whoever is inside that radius and free at that hour. For HL Physics that radius may contain nobody who has taught theme D. Online, the constraint disappears and the question becomes who knows the syllabus.

To be explicit: IB Gram does not offer home visits anywhere in the UAE. In-home tutoring is a service we run only in India. Lessons for Business Bay families are delivered one-to-one over live video on Gulf Standard Time, with a shared whiteboard, screen sharing both ways, and the session recorded or the working saved so a student can revisit a derivation they half-followed at 7pm on a school night. The comparison below is the honest version, including the places where in-home genuinely wins.

The May session, counted backwards from the exam

UAE IB schools sit the May examination session. Working backwards from it is more useful to a Business Bay parent than any calendar of dates, because what matters is which decisions have already closed by the time you notice a problem. By February of Year 13 the subject and level choices are fixed, the investigation is submitted or nearly so, and the only remaining variable is examination technique. A family that starts in February is buying technique; a family that starts in September of Year 12 is buying the grade.

Dates are the part of this subject where agency pages are least reliable, so here is our position plainly. We do not publish IB session or results dates, because the IB's own site blocks automated checking and we will not restate a date a parent might act on without reading it at source. Ask your child's IB coordinator, who holds the school's confirmed internal and external deadlines, and check ibo.org for the published session windows. For the Cambridge and Pearson qualifications an IB student may sit alongside the Diploma, note that candidates in the UAE sit the June and November series; the February and March series is offered to India only, and any UAE page quoting a March exam window is quoting the wrong country's calendar.

What we can give you is the sequence and the lead time, which do not change year to year. The milestones below are the ones families miss, in the order they arrive. Confirm every date against your school's own calendar and the relevant board's live timetable, because provisional timetables are revised and a restated date is a liability rather than a service.

Permits, the regulator, and what a Business Bay parent can actually verify

  • The MoHRE private tuition permit is free and valid for two years
  • Ask any tutor directly whether they hold one, and for the category they hold it under
  • No fine schedule is published; distrust any specific figure quoted to you
  • KHDA inspects schools, not individual online tutors
  • No tutoring provider in this market is KHDA-approved for tutoring unless it shows the permit

Private tutoring in the UAE is regulated by permit. The private tuition work permit was introduced by Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023 and is issued through the Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation. It is granted free of charge for two years, and the eligible categories include teachers registered in government or private schools, government and private-sector employees, unemployed individuals, school students aged 15 to 18 and university students. MoHRE's own service page is titled Issuance of a New Work Permit - Private Tutor Licensing, lists no fee, and states a two-working-day completion time through the MoHRE smart app, website and e-services system.

Two things follow that parents are rarely told. The permit is free, so any tutor claiming a fee as a reason for a higher rate is mistaken. And individuals offering private tutoring without a permit are, in the ministry's words, subject to fines and penalties outlined in the applicable laws. No fine schedule is published, so treat any specific amount you see quoted as unverified, including the figures that circulate on forums.

The school-level regulator is separate. Dubai's private schools are licensed and inspected by KHDA, Abu Dhabi's by ADEK, Sharjah's by the Sharjah Private Education Authority, Ras Al Khaimah's by its Department of Knowledge, and schools in Ajman, Umm Al Quwain and Fujairah are supervised by the federal Ministry of Education. A tutoring operation with premises and staff in Dubai needs a KHDA Educational Services Permit; an individual online tutor does not, and neither does IB Gram claim one. We hold no KHDA, ADEK, IB or Cambridge approval, accreditation or partnership, and you should be sceptical of any tutoring page in this market that says it does.

Arabic, Islamic Education and Social Studies alongside Diploma Physics

A Business Bay student taking HL Physics is also taking subjects that have nothing to do with their Diploma choices, and families new to Dubai are often surprised by them. KHDA requires Arabic, Islamic Education and Social or Moral Studies in all Dubai private schools regardless of the licensed international curriculum, and its published requirements were to be implemented by the start of the 2025-26 academic year, or April 2026 for schools whose year begins in April.

The organisational rules are specific. For Arabic as a first language, Islamic Education and Social Studies, schools must organise separate classes for Arabs and non-Arabs, and combined classes for both groups are strictly prohibited because the curriculum expectations and language of instruction differ. Standard Arabic is required as the main language of instruction for Islamic Education for Arabs and for Arabic as a first language; Social Studies is taught in Arabic for Arab students and in the school's licensed-curriculum language for non-Arabs. Teachers of Islamic Education and Arabic must hold appropriate KHDA approval for those subjects. Instructional time is calculated on a 40-minute lesson unit, schools may vary lesson length provided the weekly total is met, and KHDA advises a minimum of 25 minutes for any mandatory-subject lesson.

Why this belongs on a Physics page: these subjects occupy timetable hours and generate homework, and a Year 12 student balancing them against HL Physics has less capacity than the Diploma workload alone suggests. There is also a hard content limit to know about. For the mandatory UAE subjects, the use of any different or additional content without prior permission from the Ministry of Education is strictly prohibited, so tutoring in these subjects follows the school's prescribed material and nothing else. The federal baseline behind all of it is that private schools are not obliged to follow a specific curriculum beyond Arabic language, social studies and Islamic studies, but must adhere to the Ministry's general regulations.

Getting started, including what happens when no specialist is free

  • Tell us the school, the level and the theme being taught now
  • Two or three realistic evening slots, allowing for the school run
  • Free trial lesson judged on diagnosis, not on rapport
  • If no specialist is free we say so and offer a dated alternative
  • Ask the school's own Physics support sessions first; they are already paid for

The honest version of the process is short. You tell us the school, the level, the theme currently being taught and the two or three evening slots that actually work from a Business Bay tower in term time. We propose a tutor who teaches that level, and the first lesson is a free trial. The trial exists so you can see whether the tutor can diagnose, which is a different question from whether they are pleasant, and both parent and student should judge it on that.

Sometimes we cannot staff a request immediately. HL Physics in a specific theme, at 5pm Gulf Standard Time, in the fortnight before mocks, is the hardest combination in this subject, and there are weeks when the right person is fully booked. When that happens we say so rather than substituting a general science tutor and hoping. The options we will put to you are a different time slot with the right specialist, a short wait with a date attached, or a named alternative tutor with their actual subject depth described so you can decide. We would rather lose the booking than place the wrong tutor on Higher Level Physics.

One more thing worth saying before you pay anyone, us included. Ask your child's Physics teacher first. Most Dubai schools run subject clinics or support sessions that are already covered by the fees you pay, and a teacher who sees the student daily can often name the problem in one conversation. If that conversation has happened and the gap is still there, tutoring is the right next step, and you will brief us far better for having had it.

Where we tutor

Business Bay and the central corridor, tower by tower

Business Bay is not one place to a tutoring schedule. A family in Executive Towers, a family off Marasi Drive and a family on the Al Quoz side of Al Khail Road have different commutes and therefore different usable evening hours. These are the pockets we schedule around, and the neighbouring communities whose families book the same Physics lessons.

Executive Towers and Bay Avenue

The densest Diploma-age population in Business Bay. Buses to the Al Jaddaf, Al Safa and Al Sufouh schools collect early and return late, so a 5pm Physics lesson rarely works in term time. Most families here settle on 6.30pm or 7pm on two weeknights.

Marasi Drive and the canal-side towers

Newer towers along the Dubai Water Canal with a high proportion of recently arrived families, often mid-year transfers. These are the students most likely to be joining a Physics course part-taught, and they need a mapping lesson against the school's scheme of work before anything else.

Downtown Dubai

A short hop across Al A'amal Street, and effectively the same school catchment. Downtown families often share bus routes with Business Bay towers, which means the same scheduling windows and, usefully, the same mock-exam weeks to plan around.

DIFC

Immediately north-west across Sheikh Zayed Road. Working hours in DIFC households skew late, so Physics sessions here more often land at 8pm on a weekday or mid-morning on a Saturday than in the after-school slot.

Sobha Hartland and Mohammed Bin Rashid City

Across Al Khail Road and home to two of the nearest Diploma-level schools, so students here have the shortest commute of anyone in this cluster and the most flexible early-evening availability. A 5pm start is realistic.

Al Jaddaf and Culture Village

Across the creek end of the canal, with a full IB continuum school on the doorstep. Physics requests from this pocket are disproportionately IA-stage: students who have their data and need to know whether the analysis is defensible.

Meydan and Nad Al Sheba

Villa communities to the south-east with British and IB schools inside the district. Longer drives into Business Bay, which is exactly why online delivery removes a problem rather than creating one for a family straddling the two.

Al Quoz and Al Quoz 4

Mixed residential and industrial, and the cheapest central-corridor housing for a Diploma family. Rate sensitivity is highest here, so these are the families for whom the in-home travel premium matters most in absolute terms.

School ecosystem

IB and Cambridge school communities we support in Business Bay

Business Bay, Downtown and the canal

There is almost no secondary provision inside Business Bay itself. Diploma students here commute, mostly outbound in the morning towards Al Jaddaf, Sobha Hartland, Al Safa and Al Sufouh. Knowing which of these a student attends tells a Physics tutor the likely teaching order of the five themes and when the school's internal investigation deadline falls.

  • Swiss International Scientific School Dubai
  • North London Collegiate School Dubai
  • Hartland International School
  • JSS Private School
  • Horizon English School Dubai
  • Safa British School

Nad Al Sheba, Meydan and the southern corridor

The nearest cluster with Diploma Physics taught on a short commute. Students from these schools often reach a 5pm lesson comfortably, which makes them the group most able to use a twice-weekly pattern in the run-up to mocks rather than a single longer session.

  • GEMS Modern Academy
  • Repton School Dubai
  • Kent College Dubai
  • Dubai International Academy Emirates Hills
  • GEMS Wellington International School
  • Deira International School

The schools named above are listed as local context only. IB Gram has no affiliation, partnership or endorsement relationship with any of them, and no inspection rating is reproduced here; check KHDA's published report for the current rating of any Dubai private school.

How matching works

From first enquiry to a tutor who fits

  1. 01

Tell us the syllabus position, not just the subject

The useful brief is three lines: the school, Standard or Higher Level, and which theme the class is on this week. Add the date of the next assessment and the school's internal investigation deadline if you know them. That is enough to match a Physics tutor properly and to plan the first month of lessons without wasting a session on discovery.

  2. 02

Free trial lesson, judged on the diagnosis

The first lesson costs nothing and is deliberately a diagnostic rather than a lesson. The tutor works a mixed set of questions with your child and reports back where the breakdown happens: physics, algebra, command term or timing. Ask for that in writing afterwards. A tutor who cannot tell you which of the four it was has not earned the second lesson.

  3. 03

Set a pattern that survives a Business Bay term

One or two sixty-minute lessons a week at a time that works after the school run, usually 6.30pm or later on weeknights, with Saturday mornings as the fallback. Between-lesson work is one bounded question set, not an open revision instruction, because a commuting student has less weeknight capacity than a timetable suggests.

  4. 04

Track errors by theme, and change the plan on the evidence

Every marked question set feeds a running error log by theme. After six weeks the log, not an impression, decides where the hours go. If the pattern says theme C uncertainty rather than theme D content, the plan changes. You see the log, so you can see what you are paying for and when it is no longer needed.

Why families choose us

What UAE parents tell us matters most

Specialist by theme, not by subject label

A tutor who teaches theme D fields properly is a different person from a general science tutor, and in Higher Level Physics the distinction is the whole product. We match by the level and the content being taught, and if the right specialist is not free we tell you instead of substituting.

Uncertainty and graph work taught deliberately

Data analysis repeats in every Paper 1B and carries a criterion in the investigation, yet almost no student arrives having been taught it systematically. We treat it as its own block of lessons rather than a footnote, because it is the highest-yield work available in the subject.

Academic honesty stated, not implied

We teach, question and give feedback on your child's own investigation. We do not design it, draft it, process its data or edit it to completion, and we will not take the work of a student who asks us to. In a market where completed coursework is openly sold, this is a line worth stating in writing.

No invented numbers anywhere on this page

Every AED figure here is attributed to the provider or rate table that published it, with the market band named. We publish no success rate, no average score and no star rating, because we cannot produce the underlying data for any of them. Figures without a source are a reason to distrust a page, not to trust it.

Delivery stated plainly and priced honestly

Lessons are one-to-one over live video on Gulf Standard Time. IB Gram does not send tutors to homes anywhere in the UAE; in-home visits are an India-only service. The in-home premium in Dubai is a travel cost, and on a central-corridor commute it buys nothing your child's grade will notice.

Questions parents ask

IB and IGCSE tutoring in Business Bay: your questions answered

What does an IB Physics tutor in Business Bay actually cost per hour?+

Market rates, not ours. Published figures for Dubai put specialist IB and IGCSE tutoring at roughly AED 200 to 450 and above, with TutorChase listing AED 270 and Bestimate quoting AED 200 to 450 and above. A qualified online subject tutor runs about AED 150 to 300; Unitors publishes IB from AED 200. Budget online provision starts far lower, EdFlik from AED 45 to 65. Higher Level Physics sits at the upper end because the pool of people who can teach fields and mark an investigation is small. We quote after a free trial lesson rather than publishing a rate card, and you should ask any provider whether the figure includes VAT.

My child is fine at SL Physics but drowning since starting HL. Why the jump?+

Because Higher Level adds content inside every theme and assumes a level of algebraic fluency that Standard Level lets a student get away with not having. The two places it shows first are theme D, fields, where induction and the full potential treatment make the mathematics unavoidable, and theme A, where the rigid-body extension punishes shaky vector work. Nine times in ten the presenting problem is not physics at all; it is rearrangement, logarithms and radians. We diagnose which it is in the trial lesson and, if it is the algebra, we fix the algebra rather than teaching more physics on top of it.

Where exactly is the line on help with the Physics scientific investigation?+

Yes, within clear limits. The investigation must be the student's own work. A tutor may discuss the underlying physics, question whether a proposed method controls what it claims to, teach uncertainty propagation on the student's own measurements, and ask whether a conclusion is genuinely supported by the data. A tutor may not choose the research question, design the method, process the data, draft any section or edit a draft to completion. IB Gram does not write coursework. Any provider offering to supply a finished investigation is offering your child a malpractice finding, which in the IB is an expulsion-level risk.

How much of the Physics grade does the internal assessment carry?+

One fifth, at both Standard and Higher Level, from a single individual scientific investigation marked out of 24. The marks split evenly across four criteria: research design, data analysis, conclusion and evaluation, six marks each. Most students lose marks in the last two, because conclusion and evaluation feel like paperwork after the experiment is done. They are not. Evaluation is where a marker looks for honest engagement with what limited the experiment and what would realistically improve it. Confirm the current criterion structure against the subject guide your child's school issues, since the IB revises guides on a published cycle.

Do you cover both Paper 1 and Paper 2, and are they revised the same way?+

Both, and no. Paper 1 is two different things sharing a time allocation: section A is multiple choice across all five themes, rewarding speed and accuracy with no marks for working, and section B is data based, asking about uncertainty, gradients and whether a conclusion holds. Section B is learnable because the question types repeat; section A needs timed practice in blocks of twenty. Paper 2 is extended response, and there the deciding factor is command terms. Revising Paper 1 as a single entity is the most common planning error we see, and it under-prepares the half that improves fastest.

Which Physics theme should we repair first if exams are ten weeks away?+

Usually not the one that feels worst. Theme E, nuclear and quantum physics, is taught last and revised last, so it is typically the thinnest and also the most recall-heavy, which makes it the cheapest marks available in a short run. Theme D is the opposite: heavy, mathematical, and not rebuildable from scratch in ten weeks. Before choosing, we want an error log from marked past papers rather than an impression, because students and parents both routinely misidentify the weakest theme. Two timed papers marked properly will tell you more than six weeks of guessing.

Do tutors travel to apartments in Business Bay for Physics lessons?+

Not ours. IB Gram delivers all UAE tutoring one-to-one over live video; in-home visits are a service we run only in India. In-home tutors do exist in Dubai and the market prices them at roughly AED 180 to 500 per hour including travel. For Diploma Physics we think that is the wrong trade, because a tutor committed to reaching a Business Bay tower by 6pm can only serve clients within one short drive, and your child is then choosing from whoever is inside that radius rather than from whoever can teach Higher Level fields.

Does my child need Maths Analysis and Approaches to cope with HL Physics?+

Not formally, but the overlap is real and worth planning for. HL Physics assumes confident algebraic rearrangement, logarithms, radians and comfort with gradients, and Analysis and Approaches builds those more directly than Applications and Interpretation does. Students taking Applications alongside HL Physics can absolutely succeed; they more often need explicit support on the mathematical technique, because Physics lessons use it without teaching it. Ask your child's school which combination their Physics teachers see working, and if the maths is the bottleneck, treat it as a maths problem rather than running more physics past it.

Which schools do Business Bay Physics students usually attend?+

Almost none inside Business Bay itself, which has very little secondary provision. Diploma students commute, mostly to the IB continuum school in Al Jaddaf, the Diploma schools at Sobha Hartland and Nad Al Sheba, and schools further out towards Al Safa, Al Sufouh and Festival City. This matters to a tutor because the school determines the teaching order of the five themes and the date of the internal investigation deadline. We ask for the school name in the first message for that reason. We have no affiliation with any school named on this page.

How late in the evening can a Physics lesson realistically start here?+

Later than most agency pages admit. A Business Bay student bussing to Al Sufouh or Al Safa is often not home before 4.30pm and is not usefully alert at 5pm. Most families in Executive Towers and the canal-side blocks settle on 6.30pm or 7pm on two weeknights, with Saturday morning as the alternative. DIFC households, where working hours run late, more often take 8pm. Students at Sobha Hartland and Nad Al Sheba schools have the shortest commute in this cluster and can genuinely use a 5pm slot. We schedule around the real commute, not an idealised one.

Will a tutor promise my child a specific Physics grade by May?+

No, and you should treat any provider that does so with suspicion. Nobody controls the paper, the cohort, the boundaries or how a student performs on the day, so such a promise is either meaningless or it is a refund policy in disguise, in which case ask for the exact terms in writing before you pay. What can honestly be committed to is specific and checkable: a named diagnosis after the trial lesson, a weekly marked question set, an error log by theme that you can read yourself, and a straight answer when the hours have stopped buying anything. We publish no success rate or average score, because we cannot produce the underlying data for one.

Does the MoHRE private tutor permit apply to an online Physics tutor?+

The private tuition work permit was introduced by Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023, is issued through MoHRE, and is granted free of charge for two years. Eligible categories include registered school teachers, government and private-sector employees, unemployed individuals, university students and school students aged 15 to 18. MoHRE's service page lists no fee and a two-working-day completion time. Individuals offering private tutoring without a permit are subject to fines and penalties under the applicable laws; no fine schedule is published, so distrust any amount quoted to you. Ask a prospective tutor directly whether they hold one and under which category.

Is it acceptable to pay my child's class Physics teacher for extra lessons?+

Be careful here. In Abu Dhabi, ADEK's professional-ethics rules for private and charter school staff bar teachers from paid private tutoring of students enrolled at their own school, and the MoHRE permit carries a code of conduct that also bars serving students affiliated with the teacher's own school. Treat that as press-reported and verify the current wording against the authority's own policy document before relying on it. The practical answer is that your school's own free support clinics are the right first step and cost nothing, but a paid private arrangement with your child's own teacher is a conversation to have with the school, not with us.

What happens if no Higher Level Physics specialist is available when we need one?+

We tell you. Higher Level Physics at 5pm Gulf Standard Time in the fortnight before mocks is the tightest combination in this subject, and there are weeks when the right person is fully booked. Rather than placing a general science tutor and hoping, we put three options to you: a different time slot with the right specialist, a short wait with an actual date attached, or a named alternative tutor whose subject depth we describe honestly so you can judge. No competitor page in this market discloses a coverage limit. Ours does, because the alternative is a wasted month.

Do you publish IB exam and results dates for the May session?+

No, deliberately. The IB's own site blocks automated checking, so we will not restate a session or results date that a parent might act on without having read it at source. Your child's IB coordinator holds the school's confirmed internal and external deadlines and is the right person to ask; ibo.org publishes the session windows. For Cambridge and Pearson qualifications an IB student may sit alongside the Diploma, note that UAE candidates sit the June and November series. The February and March series is offered to India only, so any UAE page quoting a March exam window is quoting the wrong country's calendar.

Start with a diagnosis, not a package

If your child is losing Physics marks and nobody can say where, that is the problem to solve first, and it takes one lesson rather than a term. Tell us the school, the level and the theme the class is on this week, and we will put you with a tutor who teaches that level for a free trial lesson. Judge it on one thing: can the tutor name the pattern afterwards, in writing, with examples from your child's own working? If yes, book the block. If not, you have lost nothing but an hour, and you know more about the problem than you did this morning. Lessons run one-to-one over live video on Gulf Standard Time.
