Best IGCSE Home Tutor in the UAE

Parents searching for the best IGCSE home tutor in the UAE are asking a value question underneath the wording: which hour is worth paying for, and how would anyone outside the company know? Nobody audits the word best, so this page swaps it for checks you can run yourself — the permit, the syllabus code, the component weightings and the published rate in AED. IB Gram delivers that hour one-to-one over live video, timed to Gulf Standard Time, which means the specialist is chosen for the subject rather than for the drive.

  • Every AED figure on this page is attributed to whoever published it
  • Lessons run one-to-one over live video, timed to Gulf Standard Time
  • Matching starts from the syllabus code on the statement of entry
  • A tutor teaches and gives feedback; submitted coursework stays the student's own

IB & IGCSE in the UAE

What a value question looks like once you take the word "best" out of it

Searching for the best IGCSE home tutor in the UAE puts you in front of about a dozen providers who all use the same adjectives. Measured against each other in October 2026, the strongest page in this market ran to roughly 2,294 words, carried two tables, and refused to answer its own FAQ about price. Three of six ranking pages published no figure at all. Two quoted US dollars, a currency no family in Dubai or Abu Dhabi actually transacts a tuition invoice in. None of that is useful to a parent comparing two quotes on a Tuesday evening.

So treat the search as a procurement problem rather than a shopping one. You are buying a scarce teaching hour inside a fixed system: the school holds the licence, Cambridge or Pearson holds the specification, the emirate regulator holds the inspection file, and the federal Ministry of Education holds the equivalency rules your child's certificate will eventually be measured against. None of those things move because you hire a tutor. What a tutor changes is narrower and far more measurable — whether the student can answer the command term the paper actually uses, inside the time the paper actually allows.

That narrows the value question to three parts. First, is this person permitted to charge for private lessons in the UAE at all? That is a yes-or-no question with a free, two-year, government-issued answer, and it is the only credential in this market that a parent can verify without taking the provider's word for anything. Second, has this person taught the exact specification your child is entered for, through to a terminal series? Cambridge IGCSE Mathematics 0580 and Pearson Edexcel International GCSE Mathematics 4MA1 are not the same paper, and an hour spent on the wrong one is paid for and wasted. Third, what does the market charge for that, and does the quote in front of you sit inside the published band or outside it?

IGCSE home tutor cost in the UAE spans a wider range than any other line on a family's education budget. Published hourly figures run from AED 45 at the budget online end to AED 650 for a premium named tutor. The same subject, the same tier, the same hour — fourteen times the price. Nothing about a rate at either end of that spread tells you about teaching quality on its own, which is precisely why price has to be read alongside the two checks above rather than instead of them.

This page is built to be read in that order: what the claims mean, what the permit proves, what the market charges, what the format changes, and what the calendar does to the value of an hour bought in October against the same hour bought in February. Every AED figure is attributed to the provider or the rate survey that published it. None of them is an IB Gram price list, and where this page needs to talk about our own arrangement it points to the first lesson at no charge and the consultation instead of inventing a number.

At a glance

  • No UAE authority rates or ranks tutoring companies — KHDA, ADEK and SPEA inspect schools, not tutors
  • The MoHRE private tuition work permit is granted free of charge for two years, so cost is no excuse for not holding one
  • Cambridge IGCSE and Pearson Edexcel International GCSE use different codes, papers and entry calendars for the same subject
  • Published UAE one-to-one rates run AED 45-650 per hour depending on the provider model
  • IB Gram delivers one-to-one IGCSE tuition over live video; home visits are part of what we offer in India, not in the Emirates
IB programmes

Every IB programme stage, mapped to UAE school years

IGCSE is not one qualification but a family of them, sat under two main boards with different entry mechanics, and reached from a lower-secondary stage that most UAE families never think about until the tier decision arrives. These are the four stages a tutoring plan actually has to fit around.

COREAges 14-16 · Years 10-11

Cambridge IGCSE, Core tier

The Core tier covers the shared content of a Cambridge IGCSE subject and is assessed on papers written for grades C to G. It is the right entry for a student who needs a secure pass across a wide timetable rather than a high grade in a narrow one. The constraint that matters is the ceiling: a Core entry cannot produce an A or A*, whatever happens in the exam room.

In the UAE this tier decision is usually taken by the department head in Year 10, often on the strength of one internal assessment, and it is recorded on the entry the school submits to Cambridge months before the papers. A parent who wants a tier reviewed has to raise it while the entry is still amendable, not in the revision term. Ask the school's exams officer for the submitted tier in writing; it is the single most consequential line on the form.

EXTAges 14-16 · Years 10-11

Cambridge IGCSE, Extended tier

Extended adds the supplement content and is assessed on papers written for grades A* to E. Most UAE British-curriculum schools enter the bulk of a cohort here for the sciences and mathematics, because A-Level and IB Diploma entry requirements are written in Extended-tier grades. The supplement topics are where the tutoring hours concentrate, since they are the part the Core teaching group never sees.

Extended is the tier a UAE family usually needs if the plan runs towards A-Levels at a Dubai or Abu Dhabi sixth form, or towards the IB Diploma at one of the emirate's International Baccalaureate schools. It also matters for the Ministry of Education equivalency file, which counts five accredited IGCSE subjects at no less than grade E or grade 3 — a Core entry can clear that floor, but it cannot carry a competitive university application behind it.

4XX1Ages 14-16 · Years 10-11

Pearson Edexcel International GCSE

Pearson's International GCSE runs on codes beginning 4, tiered as Foundation and Higher in mathematics and untiered in several other subjects. Exams are available in May/June and in November each year, and some subjects are structured so that units can be sat across more than one series. The practical consequence is that a Pearson cohort and a Cambridge cohort in the same emirate can be working to different deadlines in the same term.

A number of UAE schools run a mixed entry — Cambridge for the sciences, Pearson for mathematics or English, sometimes split within one student's timetable. That is normal and it is also the commonest reason a tutoring hour misses. Before the first lesson, read the board and code for each subject off the statement of entry rather than the school prospectus, because the prospectus describes the curriculum and the statement describes what will actually be marked.

PREAges 11-14 · Years 7-9

Cambridge Lower Secondary and Checkpoint

The stage before IGCSE, with Checkpoint tests offered in March, May and October. It carries no grade a university will ever read, which is exactly why it is the cheapest place to buy a correction. A Year 9 student who cannot rearrange an equation reliably will meet that same gap again in an Extended-tier algebra paper two years later, at four times the hourly rate.

UAE families move schools and systems often — between emirates, between CBSE or American provision and a British curriculum, and in and out of the country. A student arriving into Year 9 from a different system is the clearest case for support at this stage, because the gap being closed is content the IGCSE specification assumes rather than content it teaches. Closing it in Year 9 costs a fraction of closing it in the Year 11 revision term.

Subject coverage

IB and IGCSE subjects we tutor

These are the IGCSE subjects UAE families ask about most, with the Cambridge and Pearson codes that decide which tutor is the right one. Each note says where marks actually go, because that is what an hour has to be spent on.

Mathematics (Cambridge 0580 · Pearson 4MA1)

Core and Extended · Foundation and Higher

The highest-volume request in the Emirates and the one most often mismatched by board. A Cambridge IGCSE 0580 tutor and a 4MA1 tutor are working from different question styles and different tiering language. Extended-tier marks drain away in algebraic manipulation, trigonometry in non-right-angled triangles, and the two or three multi-step problems per paper that carry no scaffolding.

Physics (Cambridge 0625 · Pearson 4PH1)

Core and Extended

Electricity and the practical-skills component are where UAE candidates lose most. Students who can recite the formula for resistance routinely fail to read a circuit diagram with an ammeter in the wrong branch. The alternative-to-practical or practical-based component rewards a specific drill — reading scales, tabulating with consistent significant figures, plotting and drawing a line of best fit — that classroom time rarely has room for.

Chemistry (Cambridge 0620 · Pearson 4CH1)

Core and Extended

Moles arithmetic and the qualitative-analysis tables are the two blocks that decide the grade. The arithmetic is teachable in a handful of focused hours; the ion tests are memory work that has to be scheduled, not revised once. Organic chemistry sits late in most UAE school schemes of work, so it frequently arrives underdone three weeks before a paper.

Biology (Cambridge 0610 · Pearson 4BI1)

Core and Extended

Content-heavy and deceptively easy to feel confident in. Marks are lost on command terms rather than knowledge: a question asking candidates to explain is answered with a description, and the mark scheme has nothing to give it. Data-handling questions on unfamiliar experiments are the other reliable gap, because they test method rather than recall.

English as a Second Language (Cambridge 0510 · Pearson 4ES1)

Core and Extended

Taken by a large share of UAE candidates, and routinely confused with First Language English. The two have different papers, different mark schemes and different value to a university file. Marks go missing in the directed-writing task, where candidates write well but ignore the audience, format or purpose the question specified.

First Language English (Cambridge 0500 · Pearson 4EA1)

Untiered

The reading passages carry more of the grade than most students believe. Summary and directed-writing questions are scored against a rubric that rewards selection and compression, not fluency. A strong writer with no summary technique loses marks on every paper, and that is a fixable, drillable gap rather than a talent problem.

Economics (Cambridge 0455 · Pearson 4EC1)

Core and Extended

Diagram accuracy decides the top band. Axes mislabelled, no shift arrow, no new equilibrium marked — the analysis may be sound and the marks still will not come. Evaluation questions need a judgement with a reason attached, and UAE candidates with strong content knowledge often stop at two-sided description.

Business Studies (Cambridge 0450 · Pearson 4BS1)

Core and Extended

Case-study application is the whole subject. Marks go to candidates who use the given business, its sector and its numbers; generic textbook answers score the lowest band however accurate they are. Calculation questions on break-even and cash flow are the most commonly skipped easy marks on the paper.

Computer Science (Cambridge 0478 · Pearson 4CP0)

Untiered

Two very different halves: theory that is examinable by recall and problem-solving that is not. Pseudocode and trace tables reward practice on paper rather than at a keyboard. Binary, hexadecimal and data-representation questions are quick wins that students lose through arithmetic slips under time pressure.

Arabic as a First Language (Cambridge 0508)

Untiered

Sat by some UAE candidates alongside the Ministry-mandated Arabic provision their school must deliver regardless of curriculum. Worth knowing that this subject, and Islamic Education, sit outside the five accredited subjects the Ministry of Education counts for British-track equivalency, so its value to a file is academic rather than procedural.

How sessions run

Tutoring formats built around UAE school timetables

Four ways to buy IGCSE support, each with a different price per unit of progress. All four run one-to-one or in a reviewed written format over live video, timed to Gulf Standard Time so a session can sit after the school run rather than inside it.

Weekly one-to-one, one subject, one code

The default and the most measurable. One hour a week against a named syllabus code, with the week's work set against the next school assessment rather than against a generic revision plan. Progress is read off past-paper question types the student could not do in week one and can do in week six, which is a check a parent can apply without taking anyone's word for it.

  • Matched to the board and code on the statement of entry
  • Session time set in Gulf Standard Time, after the school day
  • Written note after each session naming the question types covered
  • Reviewed at six hours against the week-one diagnostic

A block bought against a date, not a term

Where a family wants a fixed outlay rather than an open commitment, hours are bought as a block counted backwards from a specific paper or a specific school assessment. This is the format that makes the value argument visible, because the block has an end, a target component and a review point, and you can judge whether the next one is worth buying.

  • Sized from the entry deadline and the paper date, not the calendar month
  • Scoped to named components rather than a whole syllabus
  • Ends on a review, so renewal is a decision rather than a default

Coursework and practical-skills review, feedback only

For subjects with coursework or a practical-based component, support is delivered as teaching and feedback on the student's own work. A tutor reads a draft, marks it against the published criteria, and explains what the next version needs. Nobody at IB Gram supplies finished coursework, and no amount of money changes that; the submitted piece has to be the student's.

  • Criteria explained in the board's own language before any drafting
  • Feedback given on the student's draft, never a replacement text
  • Practical-skills drills: tabulation, significant figures, lines of best fit

Two subjects with one tutor, where the codes allow

A single tutor covering two related subjects — mathematics and physics, chemistry and biology — reduces the number of handovers and usually the total outlay. It only works where that person has genuinely taught both specifications to a terminal series, so the arrangement is offered when the codes line up and declined when they do not.

  • Offered only where both codes have been taught to a terminal series
  • One timetable to manage instead of two, in one time zone
  • Declined openly where the second subject is outside the tutor's range

What IB and IGCSE study actually looks like in the UAE

01

"Best" is a word nobody audits, so here are six checks that replace it

  • Ask which syllabus code the tutor last taught to a terminal series, and in which year
  • Ask whether the tutor holds a MoHRE private tuition work permit, and when it was issued
  • Ask for the figure behind any published rating: sample size, date and method
  • Ask what happens to the money if the match is wrong after one lesson

Every provider in this market describes itself in the same register, and not one of them is audited on it. There is no UAE authority that scores tutoring companies, no published league table for them, and no inspection report for a business that sells hours rather than places. KHDA inspects schools in Dubai. ADEK supervises licensing and accreditation of private schools in Abu Dhabi and Al Ain. The Sharjah Private Education Authority regulates private education in Sharjah. None of the three has anything to say about the person who will teach your child at seven o'clock this evening.

That leaves the adjective doing no work, so convert it into questions that can be answered inside a fifteen-minute call. Six claims recur across this market: experienced, qualified, examiner-led, regulator-recognised, results-driven and vetted. Two are verifiable in minutes. Two need a document the provider has to produce. One of them — regulator recognition for a tutoring company — usually means nothing, because the KHDA permit that genuinely exists is an Educational Services Permit issued to a training institute with premises, initial approval first and annual renewal requested at least thirty days before expiry. An online tutor matching service is not that thing, and any provider implying it is has told you something about itself.

The sixth claim, results-driven, is the one to press hardest. Competitor pages in this set publish a self-asserted 4.9 rating, a figure of 480 reviews beside a figure of 850 on the same page, and in one case a satisfaction percentage with no sample size, no date and no method attached. A number with none of those three attached is not evidence. Ask what n was, when it was measured and how, and listen to whether the answer arrives or the subject changes.

The table is the part of this page worth screenshotting before a call. Run the left column down the list, ask for the middle column, and treat the right-hand column as the point at which to stop paying attention to the rest of the pitch.

02

The one credential in this market that is free, dated and checkable

Private tutoring in the UAE is regulated by permit. The MoHRE private tuition work permit was introduced by Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023, and MoHRE's own service page lists it as "Issuance of a New Work Permit - Private Tutor Licensing", applied for through the ministry's smart app, website and e-services system, with a two-working-day completion time. It is granted free of charge for two years. Individuals offering private tutoring without a permit from MoHRE are subject to fines and penalties outlined in the applicable laws, and no fine schedule has been published, so any figure you see circulating for it should be treated as rumour.

Two things follow from this, and both are useful to a parent weighing value. The first is that there is no cost argument for not holding one. A permit that is free for two years is not a barrier to a serious tutor; a tutor who has not obtained one has made a choice. The second is that eligibility is broad on purpose. Teachers registered in government or private schools, employees in the government and private sectors, unemployed individuals, school students aged fifteen to eighteen and university students can all apply. That breadth is exactly why the permit answers the legality question and not the quality question.

There is a boundary inside the permit that matters in Abu Dhabi in particular. Press reporting of ADEK's professional-ethics rules for private and charter school staff describes a prohibition on teachers providing paid private tutoring to students enrolled at their own school, and the permit's code of conduct is reported to bar serving students affiliated with the holder's own school. Treat that as press-reported rather than as ADEK's exact wording, and verify it against the current policy document. The practical rule for a family is simple: do not go looking for your child's own class teacher privately, and be wary of any provider that offers to arrange it.

A permit also does not confer any of the things a parent might assume from the word licensed. It does not evidence subject knowledge, it does not evidence examiner status, and it does not certify a company. A tuition operation with premises and staff in Dubai is a different legal animal from an individual tutor and needs a KHDA Educational Services Permit for a training institute. None of this is a reason to skip the permit question. It is a reason to ask it first and then keep asking.

What a UAE IGCSE hour costs, and who put each number into public

IGCSE tuition rates in AED are published by almost nobody in this market, which is odd given it is the first question every parent asks. Three of six ranking pages surveyed in October 2026 carried no price at all, and one of them asks the question in its own FAQ and then declines to answer it. The figures below were read off provider pages and off a Dubai 2026 rate survey, and each is attributed to whoever published it. They describe the market. They are not an IB Gram price list, and this page does not pretend to one.

Read the bands as information about a provider model rather than about a teacher. The budget online band is populated by platforms using university students and recent graduates, and at AED 45 to 65 an hour that model is honest about what it is. The qualified-subject-tutor band is where most serious IGCSE work sits. The in-home band carries travel inside the number, which is the single most under-examined line in UAE tutoring: you are paying for a drive from Al Barsha to Khalifa City at the same rate as the teaching. The premium band buys scarcity and reputation, and sometimes buys examiner status, which is worth asking about directly rather than inferring.

Monthly packaging muddies comparison further. Figures seen in this market include AED 799 a month for eight online sessions and AED 1,599 to 1,799 a month for four two-hour in-home sessions. The Dubai rate survey's monthly estimates for one weekly hour run AED 240 to 600 at the budget end, AED 600 to 1,200 in the middle and AED 1,000 to 2,000 or more for specialist exam-year support. Before comparing two monthly numbers, divide both back to an hourly rate and check how long a session actually is. A two-hour in-home session with a fourteen-year-old in week nine of a revision term is not two productive hours.

There is a context figure worth holding alongside all of this. KHDA confirmed in May 2026 that there would be no increase in school fees for private schools in Dubai for the 2026-27 academic year, under Dubai's second economic incentives package. School fees were held. Tutoring rates were not, because nobody approves them. Sharjah's and Ras Al Khaimah's authorities approve tuition fees, curricula, programmes, courses, activities and assessment methods for schools — not for the tutor you hire privately. That asymmetry is the reason a tutoring quote needs reading in a way a school invoice does not.

A visiting arrangement and a specialist on screen, priced side by side

This page targets the phrase parents type, and the honest answer to it has two halves. The first half: a visiting IGCSE tutor is a real product in the UAE, widely advertised at AED 180 to 500 an hour, and for some families — a Year 9 student who will not settle at a screen, two siblings taught in one booking, a household with unreliable connectivity — it is a reasonable purchase. Nothing on this page argues otherwise, and a provider that pretends the visiting market does not exist is not being straight with you.

The second half: IB Gram does not sell it. Tuition for UAE families is delivered one-to-one over live video. Home visits are part of what we offer in India, not in the Emirates. That is stated the same way on every country page on this site, and it is stated here before the comparison rather than after it, because a comparison written by the party that sells one of the options is only worth reading if the position is disclosed first.

With that out of the way, the comparison is mostly about pool depth, and pool depth is where the money is. A visiting arrangement selects from whoever can reach your address and be back for a second booking, which in practice is a radius of twenty to thirty minutes in Dubai traffic and considerably less usefully defined in Al Ain or Fujairah. Live video selects from everyone who has taught Cambridge 0620 or 4CH1 to a terminal series, in any time zone that overlaps the Gulf evening. For a high-volume subject in central Dubai those two pools may both be adequate. For Extended-tier Chemistry in Umm Al Quwain at 6pm, one of them is empty.

The arithmetic underneath is worth doing once. If a visiting tutor's rate carries a thirty-minute drive each way, roughly a third of what you pay funds a car. At AED 300 an hour that is AED 100 a session, AED 400 a month, and across a two-year IGCSE course something in the region of AED 9,000 spent on travel rather than teaching. The question is not whether the visiting model is bad. It is whether that money buys more sitting in the room than it would buy as additional specialist hours.

The code on the statement of entry decides whether an hour is worth anything

Of every pound of value destroyed in this market, the largest share goes on tutoring the wrong specification. A parent books a mathematics tutor; the tutor is fluent in Cambridge IGCSE 0580 tiering; the student is entered for Pearson Edexcel 4MA1 Higher. Both are real qualifications, both are called IGCSE in conversation, and the papers do not look alike. The student spends six weeks practising question styles that will not appear. Nobody is lying to anybody. The purchase was simply made from the wrong document.

The document to buy from is the statement of entry, which the school's exams officer produces for each candidate. It names the board, the subject code, the tier where there is one, and the components. The school prospectus describes the curriculum; the statement of entry describes what will actually be marked. Ask for it before the first lesson, not after the first invoice, and send it to whoever is matching the tutor. One UAE family in this situation discovered a mixed entry — Cambridge for the sciences, Pearson for mathematics — which is common and entirely normal, and which also means two different sets of specimen papers.

Board choice is a school decision, not a family one, so this is not a section about choosing. It is a section about reading. Where the two boards diverge usefully is in structure: Pearson's International GCSE sits on codes beginning 4 and offers May/June and November series, with some subjects structured across units; Cambridge runs June and November series with Primary and Lower Secondary Checkpoint tests in March, May and October. The entry calendars therefore differ, and so does what a tutor should be doing in a given month.

One Cambridge administrative detail deserves more attention than it gets in the Gulf. Every Cambridge centre is allocated to one of six administrative zones, and Cambridge's exams officers' guide states that it is essential to use the correct version of the timetable for the zone, and that Cambridge cannot accept responsibility for candidates who miss an exam after the wrong zone timetable was used. For a UAE family that is not trivia. It is the reason to take paper dates from the school's own statement and timetable rather than from any page on the internet, including this one.

If value is the question, the useful unit is not the hour but the component. An IGCSE grade is assembled from separately weighted pieces, and those pieces are not equally responsive to teaching. Some move quickly under focused work, some move slowly, and one or two barely move at all in the time most families have. Spending the same hourly rate across all of them equally is how a budget disappears without the grade changing.

Exam technique on written theory papers is the fastest-moving piece, because the gap is usually procedural rather than conceptual. A student who writes a description when the question says explain, or who answers four parts of a six-part question because the first two took too long, is losing marks that a drill recovers. Practical-skills components behave similarly: tabulation, consistent significant figures, reading a scale, drawing a line of best fit. These are closed skills with right answers, and they respond to repetition faster than almost anything else on the paper.

Content gaps from an earlier stage move more slowly, and are the reason a Year 11 crisis is expensive. A student who cannot rearrange an equation reliably is not short of IGCSE teaching; they are short of Year 8 algebra, and that takes weeks rather than sessions. Coursework and extended-response work moves slowest of all, partly because it has to be the student's own, and partly because the criteria have to be understood before anything is drafted. The exact weighting of every component sits on the current subject specification at cambridgeinternational.org or qualifications.pearson.com, and those are the pages to read before agreeing to a block of hours — the split differs by subject and is revised.

The practical consequence for a family deciding where the money goes: buy exam technique and practical-skills drilling early and in quantity, buy content repair as soon as it is identified rather than in the term before the paper, and buy coursework support as criteria teaching rather than as drafting help, because the alternative is not available at any price.

Core or Extended: paying to lift a ceiling the entry form has already set

  • Ask the exams officer, in writing, which tier was submitted for each subject
  • Raise a tier review while the entry is still amendable, not in the revision term
  • Extended-tier hours have to cover the supplement content the Core group never sees
  • Equivalency needs five subjects at no less than grade E or grade 3; selective admission needs more

The tier decision is the highest-leverage and least-discussed item in IGCSE spending. Cambridge's Core tier is assessed on papers written for grades C to G; Extended is assessed on papers written for grades A* to E. Pearson tiers mathematics as Foundation and Higher and leaves several subjects untiered. Once the school has submitted the entry, the grade ceiling is fixed by the papers the candidate will sit, and no quantity of tuition reaches above it.

This produces two completely different spending problems, and they are frequently confused. A student entered for Core who is capable of more needs the entry reviewed, which is a conversation with the head of department and the exams officer while the entry is still amendable. Buying hours instead of having that conversation is the most expensive mistake available in this market, because the hours are real, the teaching is real, and the ceiling is still there on results day. A student entered for Extended who is at risk of a low grade has the opposite problem: the ceiling is high and the floor is the worry, and that is what tuition is actually good at.

There is also a budget argument for Extended that nobody makes out loud. Extended-tier teaching has to cover the supplement content, which the Core group never meets, and that content is where a disproportionate share of a tutor's hours go. A family that moves a student from Core to Extended in December is buying both the ceiling and the supplement, late. A family that settles the tier question in Year 10 buys the same supplement across eighteen months at whatever rate they prefer. The qualification is identical; the cost profile is not.

For the Ministry of Education equivalency file, the floor is what matters rather than the ceiling: five accredited subjects in GCSE or IGCSE certificates with a grade of no less than E or grade 3, as reported in the Ministry's July 2026 clarification. A Core entry can clear that floor. What a Core entry cannot do is carry a competitive application to a selective sixth form or a selective university behind it, which is why the tier question belongs in the first conversation about value and not the fifth.

08

Five subjects at grade E, and what the equivalency file does to your spending order

  • Five accredited GCSE or IGCSE subjects at no less than grade E or grade 3, as reported July 2026
  • Arabic and Islamic education sit outside those five for the British-track count
  • One A-Level at no less than E, or two AS-Levels at the same grade, also required
  • Verify every line on moe.gov.ae or with the emirate attestation authority before planning around it

There is a procedural step most UAE families meet late and should meet early. A secondary certificate earned on a British curriculum has to be measured against the federal Ministry of Education's equivalency requirements before it works inside the UAE system. As reported in July 2026, the British track requires five accredited subjects in GCSE or IGCSE certificates with a grade of no less than E or grade 3, plus proof of either one accredited subject at Advanced Level with a grade of no less than E or two accredited subjects at Advanced Subsidiary Level at the same grade.

The detail that reorders a budget is this: Arabic and Islamic education are not included among the five required subjects for the GCSE or IGCSE count. One page currently ranking in this market tells UAE parents they need six IGCSE subjects. That is wrong, and acting on it means paying for an entry and a year of tuition nobody asked you for. Read the requirement on moe.gov.ae or with the emirate's attestation authority before you plan around it, and treat any version of it on a commercial page — including this one — as a prompt to go and check.

For families on the American track the shape is different again. English proficiency is satisfied by a score of 5 in the IELTS academic test, 61 in the TOEFL iBT, or 450 in the reading and writing section of the SAT, and mathematics requires at least 450 in the SAT Math test before applying. No IB points threshold appears in that reporting, so no page should publish one — including pages that currently do. Equivalency is also not something a tutoring company performs, guarantees or expedites. It is a process run by the authority, and the honest role of a tutor is to make sure the grades on the certificate clear the floor.

What this changes about spending order is concrete. Five subjects have to clear grade E or 3, and the two Ministry-mandated subjects your school delivers do not count towards them. Before buying hours in a subject your child enjoys, check that the five that will carry the file are safe. A family that spends a term lifting a borderline grade D to a C in a subject inside the five has bought something structural. A family that spends the same term on a sixth subject outside the count has bought enrichment and should know that is what it bought.

09

The Ministry hours already inside the fee you are paying

Before buying any additional teaching, it is worth knowing which teaching the school fee already contains. Arabic, Islamic Education and Social or Moral Studies are mandatory in all Dubai private schools regardless of the licensed international curriculum, and KHDA's requirements were to be implemented by the start of the 2025-26 academic year, or April 2026 for schools whose year begins in April. The federal position behind that is that private schools are not obliged to follow a specific curriculum beyond Arabic language, social studies and Islamic studies, while adhering to the Ministry's general regulations.

The rules around these subjects are unusually specific, and they constrain what any outside support may legitimately do. For Arabic as a first language, Islamic Education and Social Studies, schools must organise separate classes for Arabs and non-Arabs, and combined classes for both groups are strictly prohibited because of different curriculum expectations and language of instruction. Standard Arabic is required as the main language of instruction for Islamic Education for Arabs and for Arabic as a first language; Arabic is the primary language for Social Studies for Arab students; and the school's licensed-curriculum language applies for non-Arabs in Islamic Education and Moral, Social and Cultural studies.

Two further details matter to a tutoring plan. Instructional time for the mandatory subjects is calculated on a 40-minute lesson unit, schools may vary lesson length provided the total weekly time is met, and it is advised that any mandatory-subject lesson runs at least 25 minutes. And for these subjects, the use of any different or additional content without prior permission from the Ministry of Education is strictly prohibited. That last line is a real limit, not a formality: outside support here means helping a student access the school's own prescribed material, not substituting a parallel syllabus for it.

KHDA also requires schools to ensure that all teachers of Islamic Education and Arabic have the appropriate KHDA approval to teach those subjects. That is a requirement on the school and its staff, and it is a useful question to put to a school rather than to a tutoring company. For a family budgeting IGCSE support, the practical read is that these hours are already funded inside the fee, they sit outside the five subjects the equivalency count uses, and they are the last place to add paid hours rather than the first.

The series counted backwards, and the weeks when the same hour is worth more

An hour of IGCSE tuition does not hold a constant value through the year, and the dates that change its value are published months in advance by the boards themselves. Cambridge International runs IGCSE, O Level and International A Level exams in a June series and a November series, with Primary and Lower Secondary Checkpoint tests in March, May and October. Pearson Edexcel International GCSE exams are available in May/June and November each year. Those windows are fixed by the board, not by the school, and everything a family does should be counted backwards from them.

The worked example below uses Cambridge's own published key dates for the March 2027 series, because it shows the gap that catches UAE families out. The exam period runs 3 February to 4 March 2027. Final entries were due 27 November 2026 — more than two months before the first paper. Forecast grades are due 27 February 2027, results reach centres on Direct on 13 May and certificates follow in late June. The entry deadline is the hard one. Once it passes, the tier is set, the subjects are set, and tuition can only work inside the entry that exists.

Pearson's published dates make the same point from the other direction. The November 2026 final timetable runs from late October to 19 November 2026. June 2026 results went to centres on 19 August 2026 and to students on 20 August 2026, and November 2025 results reached students on 22 January 2026. Pearson publishes provisional timetables ahead of each series, including International GCSE November 2027, which is why every date on this page should be re-checked against the live official timetable rather than trusted from a commercial page.

Two UAE-specific timing factors sit on top of the board calendar. Ramadan shifts the shape of a teaching week — school hours compress, energy moves to the evening, and a late-afternoon slot that worked in January stops working. Live video handles that without renegotiating a drive: a session moves to a post-Iftar slot and keeps running. And the Cambridge zone rule means paper dates have to come from your own centre's timetable. Every Cambridge centre is allocated to one of six administrative zones, and using the wrong zone's timetable is a risk Cambridge explicitly says it cannot accept responsibility for.

What the highest price in this market must never buy

  • Coursework and internally assessed work is taught, marked against criteria and fed back on, never authored
  • Past papers and mark schemes are referenced and linked, not distributed
  • Unavailability is disclosed with a realistic match time before any money moves
  • No page here publishes an IB exam or results date, because ibo.org could not be checked directly

There is one product sold in this market that no family should buy at any rate. A provider in this set sells completed Internal Assessments at AED 3,750. That is an academic-integrity breach, it is a malpractice trigger for the student rather than for the seller, and the consequence lands on a sixteen-year-old's certificate rather than on a company's balance sheet. The same logic applies to IGCSE coursework and to any internally assessed component: the submitted work has to be the student's own.

What legitimate support looks like is narrower and more useful than it sounds. A tutor explains the assessment criteria in the board's own language before anything is drafted. A tutor reads what the student has produced and marks it against those criteria. A tutor explains what the next version needs and why the current one does not get there. A tutor teaches the skill the criterion is testing. What a tutor does not do is author any part of a submitted piece, supply finished text, or edit a draft into something the student could not have produced. We say that in the first conversation, and a provider that will not say it plainly has told you what it sells.

The same boundary covers materials. IGCSE syllabus documents, past papers, mark schemes and grade-boundary tables belong to Cambridge and Pearson. The right thing to do is to reference them and link the official page — cambridgeinternational.org and qualifications.pearson.com — rather than hand out copies. A provider offering a library of mark schemes as a selling point is distributing someone else's copyright and has not thought hard about what else it is relaxed about.

The last piece of honesty belongs to availability. There are IGCSE codes and tier combinations for which no specialist is free at the hour a family wants, and the UAE's smaller emirates meet that more often than Dubai does. When it happens we say so and give the realistic match time rather than filling the slot with someone who last taught the subject at a different tier on a different board. A provider that is never unavailable is not well staffed. It is matching on availability rather than on the code, and you are the one paying for the difference.

Where we tutor

Areas we cover across the UAE

The regulator changes at the emirate border, and so does the depth of the local teaching pool. These notes say what each place does to a tutoring quote and to the wait for a specialist.

Dubai

227 private schools licensed in 2024-25, 17 curricula, and UK provision the largest single share at 37% of enrolment. The deepest IGCSE teaching pool in the country and the widest rate spread — AED 45 and AED 650 are both advertised inside this one emirate.

Abu Dhabi

ADEK supervises the licensing and accreditation of private schools here. Its professional-ethics rules bar school staff from paid private tutoring of pupils enrolled at their own school, which thins the evening pool exactly where families look first. An online IGCSE tutor in Dubai or further afield is often the realistic route to an Extended Chemistry specialist.

Sharjah

The Sharjah Private Education Authority regulates private education and approves tuition fees, curricula, courses and assessment methods. A Sharjah IGCSE timetable can therefore differ from a Dubai one in ways a visiting tutor who works across both emirates will not have noticed.

Al Ain

Inside ADEK's remit alongside Abu Dhabi, with a smaller British-curriculum cluster. A visiting Extended-tier Physics specialist free at 5pm on a Tuesday may simply not exist within reach, and the advertised in-home rate quietly reflects the distance rather than the teaching.

Ajman

The federal Ministry of Education supervises private schools in Ajman, Umm Al Quwain and Fujairah. Families here are routinely quoted a visiting rate built around a Dubai-based tutor's drive, which is paid for in both dirhams and in the hour the student is actually alert.

Ras Al Khaimah

The Department of Knowledge regulates private education in the emirate and, like SPEA, approves fees, curricula, programmes, courses, activities and assessment methods. Ras Al Khaimah returned zero mentions across the competitor pages surveyed for this market, which tells you how much local attention families here get.

Fujairah

Ministry of Education supervision, a small private-school cluster on the east coast, and a two-hour drive from the Dubai tutoring market. For an IGCSE subject with one or two teachers in the emirate, live video is less a preference than the only way to reach a specialist at all.

Umm Al Quwain

The smallest private-school cluster in the country, also under Ministry of Education supervision. A Cambridge 0620 or 4CH1 specialist is unlikely to be resident, so the honest comparison here is not visiting against online — it is online against nothing.

School ecosystem

IB and Cambridge school communities we support in the UAE

Dubai

The largest concentration of IGCSE entries in the country, spread across British-curriculum schools that sit in both Cambridge and Pearson entry patterns. Students we support attend schools in this cluster; the entry board and tier differ school by school and sometimes subject by subject within one timetable.

  • Jumeirah College
  • Dubai College
  • GEMS Wellington International School
  • Dubai English Speaking College
  • Kings' School Al Barsha
  • Repton School Dubai

Abu Dhabi and Al Ain

A smaller but long-established British-curriculum cluster under ADEK. Evening availability is tighter here than in Dubai because of the professional-ethics position on school staff tutoring their own pupils, so families searching for an IGCSE tutor in Abu Dhabi more often end up matching outside the emirate.

  • The British School Al Khubairat
  • Brighton College Abu Dhabi
  • Cranleigh Abu Dhabi
  • Al Yasmina Academy

Sharjah and the northern emirates

Regulated by SPEA in Sharjah, the Department of Knowledge in Ras Al Khaimah and the Ministry of Education in Ajman, Umm Al Quwain and Fujairah. Subject coverage thins quickly outside Sharjah city, which is where the value argument for one-to-one over live video is strongest.

  • The Westminster School, Sharjah
  • Victoria International School of Sharjah
  • Ajman Academy
  • RAK Academy

Schools are named here as context for the UAE IGCSE system only; IB Gram claims no affiliation, partnership or endorsement with any of them.

How matching works

From first enquiry to a tutor who fits

  1. 01

Send the statement of entry, not the school name

The first thing we ask for is the document that names the board, the subject code, the tier and the components. A school name narrows the field to a curriculum; a statement of entry narrows it to the paper that will actually be marked. If it has not been issued yet, the exams officer can confirm the intended board and tier in writing.

  2. 02

A first lesson at no charge, one per family

One trial lesson per family, at no cost, booked through the consultation rather than by card. It is used as a diagnostic rather than a sales call: the tutor works through a past-paper question set on the student's own specification and forms a view on where the marks are currently going.

  3. 03

    A written diagnostic you keep

After the trial you receive a short written note naming the components that need work, the question types the student could not complete, and an honest view of how many hours that is likely to take. It is yours whether or not you book anything, and it is the baseline the six-hour review is measured against.

  4. 04

Agree a block with a review point attached

Hours are agreed as a block scoped to named components and counted against a real date — a school assessment or a paper. The block has an end. That is deliberate: renewal should be a decision made on evidence rather than a subscription that continues because nobody cancelled it.

  5. 05

Review at six hours, in writing

At six hours we compare the current position against the week-one diagnostic, in writing, naming question types rather than impressions. If the gap has not moved, that is the moment to change tutor, change the component focus, or stop. Carrying on without that comparison is how tuition budgets quietly become permanent.

Why families choose us

What UAE parents tell us matters most

Every figure here carries its source

Each AED band on this page is attributed to the provider page or the rate survey that published it, with the month it was read. Three of six ranking competitors publish no price at all and two quote US dollars. A figure you can trace is worth more than a figure presented as authoritative with nothing behind it.

Matching starts from the syllabus code

We match on the board, code and tier on the statement of entry rather than on the school's name or the subject in general. It is the difference between a tutor fluent in Cambridge 0580 tiering and one fluent in Pearson 4MA1 Higher, and it is the commonest reason a paid hour produces nothing.

The permit question asked first

The MoHRE private tuition work permit is free for two years and is the only credential in this market a parent can verify independently. We ask about it, we expect you to ask about it, and we treat the eligibility breadth of the permit as a reason to keep asking about subject depth separately.

Unavailability said out loud

Where no specialist is free for a code and tier, we give a realistic match time instead of filling the slot. No competitor page surveyed in this market discloses a coverage limit anywhere, which means every one of them is implicitly promising availability it cannot have for every subject at every hour.

The honesty line written down

Coursework and internally assessed work is taught, marked against the published criteria and fed back on. It is not authored for the student and finished text is not supplied, at any price. A provider in this market sells completed assessments; the consequence of buying one falls on the student's certificate.

Timed to the Gulf evening

Sessions are set in Gulf Standard Time around the school day, and move to post-Iftar slots through Ramadan without renegotiating anyone's drive. For families in Fujairah, Umm Al Quwain or Al Ain, that scheduling freedom is often the difference between a specialist and whoever is nearby.

Questions parents ask

IB and IGCSE tutoring in the UAE: your questions answered

What would actually make one IGCSE tutor the better choice, when every provider uses the same words?+

Three answerable questions, in this order. Does the person hold a MoHRE private tuition work permit, and when was it issued? Which syllabus code have they taught to a terminal series, and in which year? What happens to the money if the match is wrong after one lesson? No UAE authority rates tutoring companies, so there is no external ranking to appeal to. KHDA, ADEK and SPEA inspect schools, not tutors. Anything presented as a rating needs a sample size, a date and a method before it means anything, and in this market those three things are usually absent.

How do I check that an IGCSE tutor is permitted to charge for lessons in the UAE?+

Ask directly, and ask when the permit was issued. Private tutoring is regulated by permit under Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023, and MoHRE's own service page describes the application route through its smart app, website and e-services system with a two-working-day completion time. The permit is granted free of charge for two years, so there is no cost reason for a serious tutor not to hold one. Individuals offering private tutoring without a permit are subject to fines and penalties under the applicable laws, though no fine schedule has been published, so treat any specific amount you see quoted as unverified.

Is a higher hourly rate a reliable sign of a stronger IGCSE teacher?+

No, and the spread in this market makes that obvious. Published UAE one-to-one rates run from AED 45 at the budget online end to AED 650 for a premium named tutor — fourteen times the price for the same hour of the same subject. A rate tells you about a provider model: student and graduate tutors at the bottom, travel inside the number in the visiting band, scarcity and reputation at the top. Read the rate alongside the permit question and the syllabus-code question rather than instead of them, and ask what a premium credential actually is and when it was current.

If we searched for a home tutor, why are the lessons delivered on a screen?+

Because the thing that decides whether an hour works is the match, and distance is what breaks it. A visiting arrangement selects from whoever can reach your address and return for a second booking — roughly a twenty to thirty minute radius in Dubai traffic, and much less useful in Al Ain or Fujairah. Live video selects from everyone who has taught your child's exact syllabus code to a terminal series. IB Gram delivers one-to-one IGCSE tuition over live video across the Emirates; home visits are part of what we offer in India. The visiting market is real and widely advertised at AED 180 to 500; we simply do not sell it here.

What should the first paid IGCSE hour actually produce?+

Something written that you keep. After a diagnostic session you should have a short note naming the components that need work, the specific question types the student could not complete, and an honest estimate of how many hours that is likely to take. That note is the baseline. At six hours it gets compared against the current position, in writing, in terms of question types rather than impressions. If a provider cannot produce that first note, there is nothing to measure the next twenty hours against, and renewal becomes a habit rather than a decision.

Does it matter whether my child sits Cambridge or Pearson Edexcel papers when we pick a tutor?+

It matters more than almost anything else. Cambridge IGCSE Mathematics is 0580, tiered Core and Extended; Pearson Edexcel International GCSE Mathematics is 4MA1, tiered Foundation and Higher. Both are called IGCSE in conversation and the papers do not look alike. Mixed entries are common in UAE schools — Cambridge for the sciences, Pearson for mathematics — sometimes inside one student's timetable. Read the board, code and tier off the statement of entry rather than the prospectus, because the prospectus describes the curriculum and the statement describes what will be marked. Six weeks on the wrong specimen papers is paid for and wasted.

How many IGCSE subjects is it sensible to pay for at the same time?+

Fewer than most families start with. The Ministry of Education's British-track equivalency count, as reported in July 2026, uses five accredited GCSE or IGCSE subjects at no less than grade E or grade 3, and Arabic and Islamic education sit outside that five. So the first question is which five will carry the file, and whether they are safe. Lifting a borderline grade inside those five buys something structural; the same hours in a sixth subject outside the count buy enrichment. One or two subjects at a time, scoped to named components, is where the money does most work.

My son is entered for Core — can tuition move him up to Extended this year?+

Tuition cannot, but a conversation might. Cambridge's Core tier is assessed on papers written for grades C to G and Extended on papers written for A* to E, so once the entry is submitted the ceiling is set by the papers the candidate will sit. The route is the head of department and the exams officer, while the entry is still amendable. Buying hours instead of having that conversation is the most expensive mistake available here: the teaching is real, the ceiling is still there on results day. Ask for the submitted tier for every subject in writing.

What does an exam entry deadline have to do with what tuition is worth?+

It fixes what tuition can work on. Cambridge's published key dates for the March 2027 series put final entries at 27 November 2026 against an exam period of 3 February to 4 March 2027 — the entry closes more than two months before the first paper. After that date the subjects and the tier are decided and hours can only operate inside the entry that exists. IGCSE exam entry deadlines are therefore the point at which the value of an hour changes shape: before it, hours can alter the plan; after it, they can only improve performance within it.

Which IGCSE subjects are hardest to staff in the Emirates, and what does that do to the wait?+

Extended-tier sciences, Additional Mathematics and the less common languages, and the difficulty increases sharply outside the Dubai and Abu Dhabi belt. A visiting arrangement in Umm Al Quwain or Fujairah for Cambridge 0620 Chemistry at six in the evening may have nobody in range at all, which is why the honest comparison in the smaller emirates is online against nothing rather than online against visiting. Over live video the pool is everyone who has taught that code to a terminal series in an overlapping time zone, so match time is usually days. Where nobody is free, we say so.

Will a tutor finish the coursework for my daughter if we pay enough?+

No, and that is a boundary rather than a pricing tier. A provider in this market sells completed Internal Assessments at AED 3,750; the malpractice consequence of buying one lands on the student's certificate, not on the seller. Legitimate support means the criteria explained in the board's own language before anything is drafted, the student's own draft marked against those criteria, and a clear account of what the next version needs. Nobody here authors part of a submitted piece or supplies finished text. A provider that will not state that plainly has told you what it is selling.

Are Arabic and Islamic Education counted in the five subjects the Ministry wants?+

No. The Ministry's July 2026 clarification, as reported, states that Arabic and Islamic education are not included among the five required subjects for the GCSE or IGCSE count. One page currently ranking in this market tells UAE parents they need six IGCSE subjects, which is wrong and expensive to act on. Those subjects are still mandatory at school: Arabic, Islamic Education and Social or Moral Studies run in all Dubai private schools regardless of the licensed curriculum. Verify the equivalency requirement on moe.gov.ae or with your emirate's attestation authority before planning a budget around it.

Does paying for tuition through Ramadan make sense, or should we pause?+

It depends on where the dates fall rather than on the month itself. School hours compress, energy moves to the evening, and an afternoon slot that worked in January stops working. What that argues against is a fixed arrangement built around a drive, because the drive is what becomes unworkable. Over live video a session moves to a post-Iftar or later evening slot and keeps running. Where Ramadan sits close to a paper, the sensible plan is fewer, shorter, later sessions aimed at timed past-paper work rather than new content, and an agreed pause through Eid.

How should we compare a group class, a visiting tutor and one-to-one online on price?+

Divide everything back to an hourly rate per student and check the session length. Monthly figures in this market include AED 799 for eight online sessions and AED 1,599 to 1,799 for four two-hour in-home sessions, which are not comparable until you do that arithmetic. Then account for what the rate funds: a visiting rate at AED 180 to 500 carries travel inside it, so a thirty-minute drive each way is roughly a third of the hour. A group class divides the rate but also divides the attention, which matters most in the components where a student is individually weak.

What question ends the conversation with an IGCSE tutor who cannot teach the specification?+

"Which component of this syllabus code do most of your students lose marks on, and what do you do about it in the first three sessions?" Somebody who has taught the specification to a terminal series answers in the board's own language — the practical-skills paper, the directed-writing task, the qualitative-analysis tables — and names a drill. Somebody who has not answers in general terms about confidence and foundations. The answer takes thirty seconds to hear and saves a term of fees. Ask the same question about the second subject if one tutor is covering two.

Start from the statement of entry, not from the adjectives

Send the board, subject code and tier for each subject, say which emirate you are in and what time of day actually works, and we will tell you whether a specialist for that exact specification is free — and the realistic match time if one is not. The first lesson is at no charge, one per family, booked through the consultation rather than by card, and you keep the written diagnostic whether or not you book anything after it. Every AED figure on this page belongs to the source named beside it; none of them is our price list. One-to-one IGCSE tuition over live video, timed to Gulf Standard Time, across all seven emirates.
