IB Home Tutor in Business Bay

An IB home tutor in Business Bay is nearly always being asked the same two things: make Paper 1 and Paper 2 behave, and get the Internal Assessment off the rocks. IB Gram answers that search with one-to-one teaching delivered live online, on Gulf Standard Time, by a specialist in the exact subject and level your child sits rather than by whoever happens to live two towers away. Business Bay has no K-12 campus of its own, so the school run already eats the early evening. Online teaching hands that hour back.

  • One-to-one, live online, scheduled in Gulf Standard Time
  • Matched by subject and level, not by distance from Business Bay
  • IA and Extended Essay work stays the student's own, always
  • A trial lesson before any paid block of sessions is booked

IB & IGCSE in Business Bay

What the search for an IB home tutor in Business Bay is really about

Parents in Business Bay type "IB home tutor" into Google for a practical reason, not an abstract one. The district is a dense tower community sitting south of Downtown Dubai along the Dubai Water Canal, and it holds nurseries rather than K-12 campuses. The schools its families use are in Sobha Hartland, Al Jaddaf, Al Quoz, Al Safa and Al Barsha, which means a car journey at both ends of the day. By the time a Grade 11 student is home, changed and fed, the clock says 5.30pm and there are two Higher Level subjects waiting. A tutor who also has to drive across Sheikh Zayed Road to reach that living room is a tutor who arrives at 6.45pm or not at all.

So the honest answer to the query is that the thing families want from home tutoring is the one-to-one attention and the fit around the school run, not the physical presence of a stranger in the flat. IB Gram delivers that as one-to-one online teaching over live video. We do not send tutors to homes anywhere in the UAE; home visits are a service we run only in India. Saying so plainly matters more than winning the click, because a Business Bay parent who books expecting a doorbell has been misled, and the tutoring relationship starts in a hole.

What a Business Bay family gains in exchange is the thing the local-radius model cannot offer: subject-level matching. The Diploma Programme is six subjects assessed in six different ways. Mathematics: Analysis and Approaches Higher Level is examined across three papers with a graphical calculator banned from one of them. Physics Higher Level puts 44 per cent of the grade on a single extended-response paper. History Higher Level adds a Paper 3 worth 35 per cent that no Standard Level student ever sees. A tutor who is strong in one of these is not automatically useful in another, and a 20-minute driving radius around Business Bay does not reliably contain a specialist in the particular combination your child is sitting.

This page is written from the syllabus outwards rather than from the neighbourhood inwards. It sets out which paper carries which share of the grade, which command terms quietly decide whether an answer scores, which criterion letters an Internal Assessment is marked against and what its word limit actually is, and what the past-paper work of the final two terms should look like week by week. It also publishes what the Dubai market charges in AED, with each figure attributed to the provider that published it, because three of the six pages currently ranking for this search quote no price at all.

The regulatory picture is here too, because it affects your planning. Dubai private schools answer to KHDA, which inspects them annually on a six-band scale and requires Arabic, Islamic Education and Social Studies alongside the licensed international curriculum. Private tutoring itself is permitted through MoHRE under Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023, and the permit is granted free of charge for two years. Those are checkable facts with sources, and they are the sort of thing a Business Bay parent is entitled to before handing over an hour of their child's week.

At a glance

  • Business Bay holds nurseries; the K-12 campuses its families use all sit outside the district
  • Lessons are one-to-one and online, on Gulf Standard Time, with no UAE home visits
  • Matching is by subject and level first, which a driving radius cannot guarantee
  • Every AED figure on this page is attributed to the provider that published it
  • IA, Extended Essay and TOK work is taught and reviewed, never produced for the student
IB programmes

Every IB programme stage, mapped to UAE school years

Business Bay families sit across the whole IB continuum, because the towers house everyone from a PYP Year 2 to a DP2 candidate three months from final exams. These are the programmes we cover and what each one specifically demands of a student living in this part of Dubai.

PYPAges 3-12 · FS2 to Year 6

Primary Years Programme

The PYP is organised around six transdisciplinary themes rather than subject silos, and it is assessed by the school rather than by the IB. Tutoring at this stage is about the mechanics that the inquiry model assumes are already in place: number bonds, written methods for multiplication and division, fraction equivalence, reading fluency and the ability to write a paragraph that holds a single idea. Exhibition in Year 6 is where gaps in research and note-taking habits become visible.

Business Bay PYP children are usually driven to Sobha Hartland, Al Jaddaf or Al Safa, so an online 4.30pm session fits where a travelling tutor cannot. Dubai schools must also run Arabic and Islamic Education from the primary years under KHDA requirements, and for non-Arab children that is often the first subject a parent asks about, because it is the one the family cannot help with at home.

MYPAges 11-16 · Years 7-11

Middle Years Programme

The MYP marks against four criteria per subject, each scored 0-8, and converts the total to a 1-7 grade boundary set by the school. Students lose marks here for reasons that have nothing to do with knowing the content: not addressing a command term, not showing the reflection the criterion asks for, not following the task-specific clarification. MYP Year 5 ePortfolios and the Personal Project are the two moments where that catches up with a student.

The MYP-to-DP step is the single most common reason a Business Bay parent contacts us. A student who has been comfortable with criterion-based marking for five years meets Diploma Programme papers with timed mark schemes and discovers the two are scored on different logic. Eight to twelve weeks of structured work in the summer before DP1 closes most of that gap, and it is far cheaper than repairing it in DP2.

DPAges 16-19 · Years 12-13

Diploma Programme

Six subjects, three at Higher Level and three at Standard Level, plus Theory of Knowledge, the Extended Essay and Creativity, Activity, Service. Each subject carries an internally assessed component worth roughly 20 to 25 per cent of the grade and externally marked papers for the rest. The paper structures differ sharply by subject group, which is why generic tutoring underperforms at this level and paper-specific work does not.

UAE schools sit the May session, and Business Bay DP2 students are typically working against school-set internal deadlines for the IA and Extended Essay that fall a long way before the IB's own upload dates. Confirm every IB date with your child's DP coordinator rather than with a tutoring website, including ours. Secondary sources disagree on IB session windows and the IB's own site blocks automated checking.

CPAges 16-19 · Years 12-13

Career-related Programme

The CP combines at least two DP courses with a career-related study, a reflective project and a personal and professional skills course. It is offered by a small number of Dubai schools and suits a student who wants Diploma-level rigour in two or three subjects alongside an applied qualification. Tutoring here concentrates on the DP courses taken and on the reflective project's research and referencing standards.

Fewer Dubai schools run the CP than the DP, so a Business Bay family considering it is often choosing between two campuses on opposite sides of the city. Check what the chosen school's CP pathway means for UAE Ministry of Education equivalency before committing, and ask the school directly rather than relying on a general description of the programme.

Subject coverage

IB and IGCSE subjects we tutor

These are the Diploma Programme subjects Business Bay families request most, with what each one actually assesses and the specific place marks tend to disappear. The descriptions are deliberately paper-level, because that is the unit of work a tutor and a DP2 student can plan around.

Mathematics: Analysis and Approaches

HL and SL

Three papers at Higher Level. Paper 1 is sat without a graphical calculator, which turns algebraic fluency into a grade issue rather than a style preference. Paper 3 is two extended problem-solving questions, and the usual failure is abandoning a question at the first sub-part the student cannot see rather than working forward from the given result.

Mathematics: Applications and Interpretation

HL and SL

Calculator-permitted throughout, with statistics, modelling and financial mathematics carrying real weight. Marks go on unstated assumptions, on reading a regression or chi-squared output without interpreting it in context, and on rounding that is correct arithmetically but wrong for the question's stated degree of accuracy.

Physics

HL and SL

Paper 1 splits into multiple choice and a data-based section; Paper 2 carries the extended responses and the larger share of the grade. The recurring problem is not the mathematics but the explanation: a student who can calculate the field strength often cannot write the three-step causal chain the mark scheme wants for the word 'explain'.

Chemistry

HL and SL

Organic mechanisms, equilibrium and energetics account for most of the lost marks at Higher Level. The scientific investigation needs a research question that is genuinely measurable with the school's apparatus, and students routinely choose something interesting that cannot generate enough data points to analyse properly.

Biology

HL and SL

Command-term discipline decides this subject. 'Outline' and 'explain' carry different mark allocations and different expectations, and a full, well-informed paragraph written against the wrong command term scores a fraction of what it should. The data-analysis questions reward students who have practised reading unfamiliar graphs under time pressure.

Economics

HL and SL

Three commentaries make up the portfolio, each limited to 800 words and each marked against the same criteria including diagram accuracy and the named key concept. Higher Level adds a quantitative paper. Most marks are lost on diagrams that are drawn but never referred to in the analysis, and on evaluation that lists two sides without reaching a judgement.

Business Management

HL and SL

The pre-released case study rewards early, structured preparation and punishes cramming. Students lose marks by describing a tool rather than applying it to the stated firm, and by answering a 10-mark question with the structure of a 4-mark one. Tutoring here is largely about answer architecture and timing.

English A: Language and Literature

HL and SL

Paper 1 is unseen textual analysis against a guiding question, and the guiding question is where most of the marks are decided. Higher Level adds the 1,200-1,500 word HL Essay on a studied text. The Individual Oral asks a student to connect a global issue to two texts, and weak choices made in Year 12 constrain what is possible in Year 13.

English B

HL and SL

Reading and listening comprehension carry the largest external weighting, and the written assignment is judged on register and audience as much as on grammar. Students who have strong conversational English frequently underperform here because the paper tests text type conventions they have never been taught explicitly.

History

HL and SL

Paper 1 is source-based, Paper 2 is comparative essays, and Higher Level adds Paper 3 at 35 per cent on a single regional option. The historical investigation is 2,200 words and is marked substantially on the evaluation of sources rather than on the narrative, which is the opposite of what most students instinctively write.

Theory of Knowledge

Core

The exhibition and the 1,600-word essay on a prescribed title are assessed against published criteria, and the essay is marked on the quality of the argument rather than on the breadth of examples. Students who treat TOK as an afterthought lose points from the Diploma's bonus three, which is a cheap way to miss a university offer.

Extended Essay

Core

Four thousand words, supervised by a teacher at the school, marked out of 34 across five criteria including engagement, which is assessed from the student's reflections rather than the essay itself. Subject choice and research question are the two decisions that determine the grade, and both are made before any writing starts.

How sessions run

Tutoring formats built around UAE school timetables

Three ways a Business Bay family actually buys Diploma Programme support, with what each one is good for. All three are delivered one-to-one over live video on Gulf Standard Time; none involves a tutor travelling to a UAE address.

Weekly one-to-one, one subject

The standard arrangement for a DP1 or DP2 student with a single problem subject. One 60 or 90-minute session a week, the same slot each week so it survives the school calendar, working through the paper structure of that subject rather than through the textbook in order. Written notes go to the parent after each session.

  • Same tutor, same slot, booked a term at a time
  • Paper-by-paper plan rather than chapter-by-chapter
  • Past-paper questions set between sessions and marked against the real scheme
  • A short written summary to the parent after every lesson

Internal assessment and Extended Essay coaching

A shorter, denser block timed to the school's own internal deadlines rather than to the IB's. The work is criterion-mapped: what criterion B is asking for, why a research question is not yet measurable, where the reflection is thin. The student writes every word of the submission and the tutor marks against the published descriptors.

  • Four to eight sessions built around the school's submission dates
  • Criterion letters and mark allocations made explicit at the start
  • Research questions stress-tested for feasibility with the school's equipment
  • No text supplied, drafted or edited to completion on the student's behalf

Exam-run intensive

A compressed programme for the eight to twelve weeks before the May session, usually two or three sessions a week across one or two subjects. The content is almost entirely timed past-paper work, marked, returned and then re-attempted on the questions that failed, with command-term drilling in between.

  • Two or three sessions a week, one or two subjects
  • Full papers sat to time, then marked against the official scheme
  • A running error log so the same mistake is not re-taught twice
  • Scheduling that bends around school mocks and study leave

What IB and IGCSE study actually looks like in Business Bay

01

What a Business Bay family is actually buying when they search for a home tutor

An IB home tutor in Business Bay, as the phrase is used by the families who search it, means one adult giving one child undivided attention on a specific subject at a specific level, at a time that fits around a school run that leaves the district. The word 'home' in the search is about privacy and convenience, not about transport. Once you separate those two things, the delivery question answers itself: IB Gram provides that teaching as one-to-one online tuition over live video, and does not send tutors to homes anywhere in the UAE. Home visits are a service we offer only in India.

The reason this is not a compromise comes down to arithmetic. The Diploma Programme has six subject groups, two levels, two mathematics routes and a different assessment architecture in each. The chance that a tutor who is genuinely strong in, say, Chemistry Higher Level organic mechanisms also lives within a workable evening drive of a particular tower on the Dubai Water Canal is low, and it gets lower the more specific the need. Removing the travel constraint does not reduce the pool of tutors by a little; it expands it by a lot, and the expansion is concentrated exactly where the scarcity is.

There is a cost argument sitting alongside it, and it runs in the same direction. Published in-home rates in Dubai sit between AED 180 and AED 500 an hour, against AED 150 to AED 300 for a qualified subject tutor working online. The gap is not a quality premium. It is travel time being paid for, plus the smaller supply that a radius creates. A Business Bay parent who pays the travel premium is buying a tutor's commute, and getting a narrower choice of specialist in return.

What this page does from here is unusual for the search term, and deliberately so. Rather than describing the neighbourhood and listing subject names, it sets out the assessment machinery your child is being marked by: which paper is worth what, which words in a question control the mark scheme, which criterion letters an Internal Assessment is scored against, and what the final two terms of past-paper work should look like. That is the material a tutor and a student spend an hour a week on, so it is the material you should be able to judge us by before booking anything.

02

The Diploma assessment map: which paper carries which share of the grade

Most Diploma students, and a surprising number of parents, cannot say what fraction of a subject grade each paper carries. That matters because revision time is finite and the papers are not equally weighted. A Physics Higher Level student who spends equal hours on Paper 1 and Paper 2 has misallocated effort against a 36 to 44 split. A History Higher Level student who neglects Paper 3 is ignoring 35 per cent of the subject. The table below is the map, and the first job of any serious tutoring block is to look at it with the student and decide where the hours go.

Read the internal assessment column carefully. Across almost every subject it sits at roughly a fifth to a quarter of the final grade, and it is the only component the student controls completely: unlimited time, access to resources, a known mark scheme and the chance to redraft. A student sitting on a predicted 5 who has produced a weak Internal Assessment has usually thrown away the cheapest marks available to them. Fixing that is often a better use of six sessions than another round of Paper 2 practice.

The other pattern the table exposes is where levels diverge. Higher Level is not Standard Level with extra content bolted on; in several subjects it introduces a whole additional paper with its own question style. Maths AA Higher Level adds Paper 3, two long structured investigations that reward a student who keeps working forward from a given result rather than stopping at the first unfamiliar sub-part. History adds Paper 3. English A adds the HL Essay. Those additions are where Higher Level grades are won and lost, and they are frequently the components a school has least time to rehearse.

Weightings are taken from the current published subject guides and are stable across a teaching cycle, but the IB does revise them between syllabus versions. Check your child's exact combination with the Diploma Programme coordinator at their school before planning around any figure, including the ones here. The same applies to session and results dates: we do not publish IB exam dates on these pages, because the IB's own site cannot be checked automatically and secondary sources disagree with each other.

Command terms are the mark scheme in disguise

  • 'Explain' requires a connected mechanism; 'describe' does not and scores less if that is all you give
  • 'Hence' in a maths question means the previous part must be used, not merely referenced
  • Mark allocation signals structure: a 15-mark Economics question expects a judgement
  • Two to four sessions of command-term practice usually outperforms another content pass

The single most common reason a well-prepared Diploma student underscores is that they answered a different question from the one printed. IB papers are built on command terms, and each term carries an expectation that the examiner's mark scheme enforces strictly. 'State' wants a single fact with no working. 'Outline' wants a brief account. 'Describe' wants detail without causation. 'Explain' wants the mechanism, step by step, with each step connected to the next. 'Discuss' wants a balanced review with arguments on both sides. 'Evaluate' and 'Justify' want a judgement reached and defended. A student who writes an excellent description where the paper asked for an explanation has produced good work that cannot score.

This is diagnosable in a single session. Give a student a marked past paper and the official scheme, and ask them to say, for each question they lost marks on, which command term was used and what that term required. Most cannot do it for more than half the paper. That is not a knowledge gap and no amount of content revision closes it. It closes in two to four sessions of deliberate practice: same content, different command terms, marked against the real descriptors each time until the student can predict the shape of the answer before writing it.

The pattern is sharpest in the sciences and in Economics. In Physics and Chemistry, 'deduce' and 'determine' both expect working to be shown, but 'deduce' also expects a conclusion drawn from given information rather than from memory. In Economics, 'examine' and 'evaluate' both require two-sided treatment, but a question worth 15 marks expects a judgement that a 10-mark question does not. In Mathematics the critical term is 'hence', which signals that the previous result must be used; students who restart from scratch after 'hence' lose the method marks even when the final answer is correct.

For Business Bay students specifically, this is the highest-return work available in a weekly online session, because it needs nothing but a paper, a mark scheme and someone who knows how examiners read. There is no equipment, no travel and no lab. It also transfers across subjects: a student who learns to read command terms in Biology reads them better in History the following week. That is why a command-term audit is usually the first thing we do rather than the last.

04

Internal assessment, criterion by criterion

Every Diploma subject carries an internally assessed component, and every one of them is marked against published criteria identified by letter with a fixed mark allocation per letter. Students are given this information by their schools and routinely do not use it. The most useful hour a tutor can spend on an Internal Assessment is the first one, before any writing exists: read the criteria aloud, decide what evidence each letter needs, and check whether the research question or chosen text can actually generate that evidence.

Word and page limits are enforced, and overshooting them costs marks mechanically rather than by judgement. The Extended Essay is 4,000 words. The History investigation is 2,200. A scientific investigation in Physics, Chemistry or Biology is 3,000. Each Economics commentary is 800, and there are three of them. The English A HL Essay sits between 1,200 and 1,500. A Mathematics exploration has no hard word count but a recommended length of roughly 12 to 20 pages, and examiners are explicit that a longer exploration is not a better one. Writing to the limit from the outset is easier than cutting 900 words out of a finished draft.

The boundary of what a tutor may do here is a real rule, not a disclaimer. Under IB academic honesty requirements the submitted work must be the student's own, authenticated by the supervising teacher at the school. A tutor may teach the underlying content, explain what a criterion is asking, question whether a method is sound, point out that a conclusion does not follow from the data, and mark a student's own draft against the published descriptors. A tutor may not supply text, draft sections, or edit a draft into a submission. We decline that work when it is requested, and it is requested, because at least one competitor in this market sells completed Internal Assessments outright.

There is a practical reason beyond the ethics. The reflection and engagement criteria in several subjects are marked from the student's own record of how the work developed, and a student who did not do the thinking cannot produce credible reflections. Supervisors notice. The fastest route to a strong Internal Assessment mark is genuinely a well-coached student doing their own work early, because the criteria were designed to reward exactly that and to expose the alternative.

What tutoring costs around Business Bay, and what the travel premium buys

Start with the monthly number, because that is the one a household budget is built on rather than the hourly rate. A single weekly 60-minute session with a qualified online subject tutor at published Dubai market rates lands somewhere around AED 600 to AED 1,200 a month. The same session with an in-home tutor lands closer to AED 800 to AED 2,000, and monthly in-home packages advertised in Dubai run from AED 1,599 to AED 1,799 for four two-hour visits. Online monthly packages in the same market have been published from AED 799 for eight sessions. That spread is wide enough to change which plan a family can sustain for two years, which is the relevant timescale for a Diploma.

Now the hourly view, by tier, with attribution. Budget online tutoring, usually delivered by university students, is advertised from AED 33 to AED 150. Qualified subject tutors working online are quoted from AED 150 to AED 300. In-home one-to-one with travel included sits at AED 180 to AED 500. Named IB and IGCSE specialists are quoted between AED 200 and AED 450 and above, and premium examiner-led tutoring has been published as high as AED 650. These are market figures published by the providers named in the table, read in October 2026, not IB Gram's price list.

The useful question is what the in-home premium actually purchases. It is not more teaching time, because an hour is an hour. It is not better subject fit, because the pool is restricted to tutors within driving distance. What it buys is physical presence and the tutor's travel, and in a tower district with canal crossings at both ends of the drive, that travel is substantial and it is priced into every session. A parent paying AED 350 rather than AED 220 for the same hour of Chemistry teaching is, in most cases, paying AED 130 for a car journey.

What IB Gram's own arrangement looks like is simple enough to state without a price list: a trial lesson first so you can judge the tutor before committing, then blocks booked by the term with the slot held. If you want figures for your child's exact subject and level, ask on the consultation rather than reading a number off a page, because the honest answer depends on level, session length and frequency. Any provider quoting a single universal rate for 'IB tutoring' is quoting an average, and no family pays an average.

The past-paper sequence that actually moves a Diploma grade

  • Four stages: untimed by topic, timed by question, full paper to time, cold re-attempt
  • Use the mark scheme immediately after each question, not at the end of the paper
  • One line of error log per lost mark, categorised as knowledge, method or command term
  • In the final six weeks, marked full papers should outnumber new teaching hours

Past papers are the most misused resource in the Diploma. The standard pattern is to work through them in chronological order, check answers against the mark scheme, feel reassured or alarmed, and repeat. That produces familiarity without improvement, because nothing in the loop forces the student to change behaviour. A sequence that works has four distinct stages and the student should know which stage they are in at any point.

Stage one is untimed, open-book, by topic. The purpose is diagnosis, not score: which sub-topics generate errors, and are they knowledge errors, method errors or command-term errors. Stage two is timed by question, still by topic, with the mark scheme used immediately after each question rather than at the end. This is where method marks get recovered, because the student sees exactly where the scheme awarded a mark they did not claim. Stage three is full papers to time, in the morning if possible, marked strictly by someone else. Stage four is targeted re-attempt: the failed questions only, four to six weeks later, cold.

An error log is what holds the sequence together. One line per lost mark: paper, question, command term, what went wrong, and the category. Within three weeks the pattern is visible, and it is almost never evenly spread. A typical Maths AA Higher Level log shows most losses concentrated in two or three places, often integration by substitution, complex number manipulation and the second half of Paper 3. Revising the whole syllabus for a student with that log is a waste of their remaining weeks, and the log is what makes that obvious to the student rather than just to the tutor.

Timing deserves its own treatment, because in several subjects it is the binding constraint rather than knowledge. History Paper 3 asks for three essays in two and a half hours, and students who know the content well still run out of time on the third. The fix is not more content; it is a fixed planning allowance per essay, practised until it is automatic. Physics Paper 2 rewards the same discipline on extended responses. These are habits, and habits need rehearsal under conditions, which is why the last six weeks before the May session should contain more marked full papers than new teaching.

This is the operational fact that shapes tutoring in the district more than anything else. Business Bay holds nurseries and early-years provision, but the K-12 campuses its families use all sit outside it: Sobha Hartland and Mohammed Bin Rashid City to the east, Al Jaddaf across the creek extension, Al Quoz and Al Safa to the west, Al Barsha further out. Every secondary student in the towers therefore travels, usually by car or school bus, through a road network whose afternoon flow is governed by the canal crossings and the Sheikh Zayed Road and Al Khail interchanges.

In practice that means a Diploma student leaving school at 3.00pm or 3.15pm is rarely settled and ready to work before 4.45pm, and often not before 5.15pm if the route runs through Al Quoz. Add a travelling tutor to that evening and you are negotiating two separate journeys against the same traffic, which is why in-home sessions in central Dubai so often get set at 6.30pm or later, and why they are the first thing to collapse when a school adds an after-school commitment. An online session can start at 4.30pm from a bedroom desk with the school bag still in the hall.

The day of the week matters too. Dubai schools run Monday to Friday with a shorter Friday, which concentrates the useful tutoring window into Monday to Thursday evenings plus the weekend. Saturday morning is the single most requested slot we see from central Dubai, because the student is rested and nothing competes with it. Sunday evening is the second, used as a setup session for the week ahead. For a DP2 student in the exam run, one weekday evening plus one weekend morning is a more durable pattern than two weekday evenings.

Ramadan changes the whole shape for a term. School hours shorten, energy profiles shift and families reorganise the evening around iftar. Sessions commonly move to the late morning or to after iftar, and that reorganisation is straightforward online and genuinely difficult with a travelling tutor in a city where the roads just before sunset are at their worst. We schedule around it rather than pausing, because for a DP2 student the Ramadan weeks usually sit close to the May session and are not weeks that can be given up.

Academic honesty: where a tutor stops

  • Permitted: teaching content, explaining criteria, questioning method, marking the student's own draft
  • Not permitted: supplying text, drafting sections, or producing assessed work for the student
  • The school supervisor authenticates authorship, and reflection criteria expose work that is not the student's
  • Official papers and mark schemes are referenced and linked, never reproduced or distributed

The IB treats authorship as a matter of fact rather than of degree. Work submitted for assessment must be the student's own, and the supervising teacher at the school authenticates it. A breach is not a style issue; it triggers the IB's academic misconduct process, and the outcome for a student can be the loss of a subject grade or of the Diploma. That exposure sits with the student, not with the tutor, which is why a tutoring service that blurs the line is transferring risk to a sixteen-year-old in exchange for a fee.

The permitted territory is wide and genuinely useful. A tutor may teach the content the assessment rests on. A tutor may explain what a criterion requires and what evidence satisfies it. A tutor may say that a research question cannot be answered with the apparatus available, that a sample size will not support the statistical test chosen, that a conclusion overreaches the data, or that an argument in a Theory of Knowledge essay has no counter-position. A tutor may mark a student's own draft against the published descriptors and explain each mark. All of that is teaching, and all of it raises marks.

The prohibited territory is narrow and absolute. A tutor does not supply sentences for a submission, does not draft a section, does not rewrite a paragraph into its final form, and does not produce an Internal Assessment, Extended Essay, Theory of Knowledge essay, Personal Project or any assessed coursework on a student's behalf. Requests for exactly that arrive regularly in this market, and they are declined. One operator in this SERP advertises completed Internal Assessments at a fixed price; that is an academic integrity breach being sold as a service, and a family should treat any provider who offers it as unsafe for everything else too.

There is also a records question worth naming. We reference official syllabus documents, past papers and mark schemes and point to the board's own pages for them. We do not host or hand out IB, Cambridge or Pearson materials, because reproducing them is a copyright matter and, for unreleased material, a malpractice exposure. If a tutoring service offers you a library of downloadable mark schemes, that is a signal about how it treats rules in general.

KHDA, the mandatory UAE subjects and the Diploma timetable squeeze

Dubai private schools are overseen by KHDA, the Knowledge and Human Development Authority, which u.ae describes as responsible for enhancing and overseeing the quality of private education in the emirate. Inspection outcomes run on a six-band scale from Outstanding down to Very Weak, and a published band is a reasonable starting point for a parent comparing campuses, though it describes the school as a whole rather than the Diploma teaching of one subject. Ask a school directly how its Higher Level cohorts in your child's subjects have performed before drawing conclusions from a headline band.

Alongside the licensed international curriculum, Dubai private schools must deliver Arabic, Islamic Education and Social or Moral Studies, and KHDA's guidance is specific about how. Separate classes are required for Arabs and non-Arabs in Arabic as a first language, Islamic Education and Social Studies, and combined classes for both groups are prohibited because the curriculum expectations and language of instruction differ. Instructional time is calculated on a 40-minute lesson unit, schools may vary lesson length provided the weekly total is met, and any mandatory-subject lesson is advised to run at least 25 minutes. Schools also require appropriate KHDA approval for the teachers who deliver Arabic and Islamic Education.

The consequence for a Diploma student in Business Bay is a timetable squeeze that parents often do not see until DP1. Six Diploma subjects, Theory of Knowledge and the mandatory UAE subjects have to coexist in the same week, and the components that lose out are usually the ones with no external paper attached: the Extended Essay, Theory of Knowledge and the early stages of Internal Assessment work. That is precisely why so many Internal Assessments start late, and why an early block of online coaching in DP1 pays for itself in DP2.

Equivalency is the other thing worth planning early, because it affects UAE university applications rather than school progression. For British-track students the Ministry of Education requires five accredited subjects at IGCSE or GCSE at no less than grade E or 3, with Arabic and Islamic Education not counted among the five, plus one A Level at E or two AS Levels at the same grade. One page currently ranking for these searches states six IGCSE subjects, which is wrong. For IB students we publish no points threshold, because none has been read on the Ministry's own site, and an unsourced number here would be a number a family acts on. Verify through the Ministry of Education or your emirate's attestation channel, and treat IB Gram's role as explaining the process rather than performing it.

Where we tutor

Business Bay and the communities around it

Business Bay sits inside a tight ring of central Dubai communities, and the differences between them are operational rather than cosmetic: different schools, different commutes, different realistic session times. These are the areas our Business Bay students share tutors and timetables with.

Business Bay

High-density towers along both banks of the Dubai Water Canal, with nurseries but no K-12 campus inside the district. Every school run leaves the area, which pushes the earliest practical weekday session to around 5pm.

Downtown Dubai

Immediately north across Al Khail and Sheikh Zayed Road. Shares the same school catchments as Business Bay and the same absence of on-site campuses, so the two communities behave as one tutoring market.

Sobha Hartland

A short drive east along the canal and the nearest cluster with actual schools on the ground, including British and IB provision. Many Business Bay families chose the district precisely for this proximity.

Al Jaddaf and Culture Village

Across the creek extension, with an IB continuum school serving a strongly bilingual community. Traffic on the Al Khail and Business Bay crossings decides whether a 4.30pm start is realistic from here.

Al Quoz and Al Quoz 4

Industrial and residential mix west of the canal, holding several large private campuses. The afternoon run out of Al Quoz is one of the slower ones in the city, which shapes session scheduling more than distance does.

Meydan and Nad Al Sheba

Villa communities south-east of Business Bay, popular with families who moved out of the towers for space. School options are further apart here, so online sessions remove a second car journey from the evening.

Mohammed Bin Rashid City

Still filling in, with new school capacity arriving alongside the housing. Families here often keep a child at a Business Bay-adjacent school through a transition year rather than move mid-programme.

DIFC

Apartment living with a working-parent profile close to that of Business Bay. Sessions are frequently booked for after 7pm so a parent can be in the room for the first and last ten minutes.

Al Safa and Jumeirah

West along the coast, with a long-established British and IB school cluster. A Business Bay student attending here spends 25 to 45 minutes each way depending on the Al Wasl Road sequence.

School ecosystem

IB and Cambridge school communities we support in Business Bay

Sobha Hartland, Mohammed Bin Rashid City and Al Jaddaf

The closest campuses to Business Bay with secondary provision, and the ones most Diploma students from the towers attend. The drive is short by Dubai standards, but it still runs through the canal crossings, which is what sets the earliest session time on a school night.

  • Hartland International School
  • North London Collegiate School Dubai
  • Swiss International Scientific School Dubai
  • Sobha Hartland International School

Al Quoz, Al Safa and Al Barsha

The larger, older cluster west and south of Business Bay, containing most of the British-curriculum and IB Diploma capacity the district's families use. Several run IGCSE at 16 before splitting into A Level or Diploma pathways, which is where our MYP and IGCSE transition work concentrates.

  • GEMS Wellington Academy Al Khail
  • Safa British School
  • Horizon English School
  • Dubai International Academy Al Barsha
  • Kings' School Al Barsha
  • GEMS Our Own Indian School Al Quoz

Meydan, Nad Al Sheba and the southern corridor

Where Business Bay families tend to land when they trade an apartment for a villa, and where the school commute lengthens enough that a second evening car journey stops being viable. Online sessions are the practical default for Diploma students in this ring.

  • Dubai British School Jumeirah Park
  • The Aquila School
  • Repton Al Barsha

Schools are named here as context for the communities we teach into. IB Gram has no affiliation, partnership or endorsement relationship with any school listed, and students we support attend them as pupils of those schools.

How matching works

From first enquiry to a tutor who fits

  1. 01

Tell us the subject, the level and the deadline

Not just 'IB maths'. Which route, which level, which paper is the problem, and what date is fixed: a school mock, an Internal Assessment submission, the May session. A Business Bay family that gives us the school name as well lets us anticipate the internal deadline calendar, which is usually tighter than the IB's.

  2. 02

We match by subject and level before anything else

The constraint we optimise is specialist fit, not postcode, because lessons are online and distance is irrelevant to delivery. If the exact combination is scarce we say so at this point and give you a realistic timescale rather than placing a near-match and hoping it holds.

  3. 03

A trial lesson, then you decide

One session before any paid block, so the student meets the tutor and you see how a lesson is run. It is a diagnostic as much as an introduction: by the end there should be a stated view on where the marks are going and what the first four sessions will address.

  4. 04

A written plan with the papers named

After the trial you get the plan in writing: which components, which weightings, which past papers, what gets set between sessions and how it will be marked. If an Internal Assessment is in scope, the criterion letters and the length limit are in the plan from the start.

  5. 05

Weekly sessions in a held slot

The same tutor in the same slot, booked by the term so it survives the school calendar. Notes go to the parent after each session, and the error log travels with the student rather than living in the tutor's notebook.

  6. 06

    Review at six sessions, honestly

Six sessions is enough to judge whether the pairing works and whether the plan is landing. If it is not, we change the tutor or the plan and say which. A review that always concludes everything is fine is not a review.

Why families choose us

What UAE parents tell us matters most

Specialist fit instead of a driving radius

Online delivery removes distance from the matching problem, so a Business Bay student needing Chemistry Higher Level organic mechanisms gets someone who teaches that, rather than the nearest available generalist. On a six-subject, two-level programme, that difference compounds over two years.

Paper-level planning, not chapter-by-chapter

Sessions are organised around the components that carry the marks, with the weightings on the table in front of the student. A plan that names Paper 3 and the exploration is a plan a sixteen-year-old can argue with, which is the point.

Prices you can check against the market

Every AED figure on this page is attributed to the provider that published it and dated. We do not present market rates as ours, and we do not quote a single universal hourly rate for a programme with two levels and six subject groups.

A clear line on assessed work

We teach, question and mark against published criteria. We decline requests to produce an Internal Assessment, Extended Essay or Theory of Knowledge essay, and we say so on the page rather than in the small print, because the risk of the alternative falls on the student.

Scheduling built for a district with no school in it

Business Bay school runs leave the area in both directions, so sessions are set to start when a student is actually home and able to work. Ramadan timings, mock weeks and study leave are planned around rather than treated as interruptions.

Sourced facts, and silence where there is no source

Regulatory and equivalency statements here carry their origin. Where a figure could not be verified, including IB session and results dates and the Ministry of Education's IB points threshold, we leave it out and point you to the authority instead of guessing.

Questions parents ask

IB and IGCSE tutoring in Business Bay: your questions answered

How much does an IB home tutor in Business Bay charge per hour?+

Published Dubai rates for in-home one-to-one tuition run from about AED 180 to AED 500 an hour, with Bestimate quoting AED 180 to 350 and independent home tutors AED 200 to 500. Qualified online subject tutors are quoted lower, AED 150 to 300, with Unitors advertising IB from AED 200. Those are market figures from the providers named, read in October 2026, not IB Gram's price list. The gap between the two bands is mostly travel time rather than teaching quality. Ask for a figure for your child's specific subject, level and session length on the consultation, because a single universal rate for the whole Diploma is an average nobody actually pays.

Does IB Gram send a tutor to an apartment in Business Bay?+

No. IB Gram does not provide home visits anywhere in the UAE; that is a service we run only in India. Teaching for Business Bay families is one-to-one and delivered live online, over video, scheduled in Gulf Standard Time. The URL you arrived on uses the phrase parents search, and we would rather target it honestly than imply a doorbell. The practical trade is a good one here: the towers have no K-12 campus, both ends of the school run cross the canal, and removing the tutor's journey means you can start a session at 4.30pm and choose a specialist in the exact subject and level rather than whoever lives nearby.

Which IB schools do Business Bay families usually drive to?+

Business Bay has nurseries but no K-12 campus, so secondary students travel. The nearest cluster with Diploma provision sits in Sobha Hartland and Mohammed Bin Rashid City, with Al Jaddaf across the creek extension and a larger, older cluster west and south in Al Quoz, Al Safa and Al Barsha. Schools named on this page are context for the communities we teach into; IB Gram has no affiliation or partnership with any of them. Check current programme offerings and the latest published inspection outcome on KHDA's own site rather than on a tutoring page, including this one, because provision changes between academic years.

What time can a Business Bay session realistically start on a school night?+

A Diploma student leaving school at around 3pm is rarely settled and ready to work before 4.45pm, and later if the route runs through Al Quoz. Online, 4.30pm to 5pm is achievable because there is no second journey to coordinate; in-home sessions in central Dubai commonly end up at 6.30pm or later for exactly that reason. Monday to Thursday evenings and Saturday morning are the slots that hold up best over a term. Saturday morning is the one we see requested most from the central corridor, because the student is rested and nothing else competes with the time.

How many Diploma papers does my child sit at Higher Level in Business Bay schools?+

It depends on the subject rather than the school. Mathematics: Analysis and Approaches Higher Level is three papers, with Paper 1 sat without a graphical calculator and Paper 3 worth 20 per cent. Physics and Chemistry Higher Level are two papers, weighted roughly 36 and 44 per cent with a 20 per cent investigation. History Higher Level is three papers, with Paper 3 alone worth 35 per cent. English A: Language and Literature has two papers plus an HL Essay and an Individual Oral. Confirm your child's exact combination with the Diploma Programme coordinator at their school, because weightings are revised between syllabus versions.

Where is the line between tutoring help and IB malpractice on the exploration?+

Yes, within a clear boundary. The exploration is marked out of 20 across five criteria: presentation, mathematical communication, personal engagement, reflection and use of mathematics. A tutor may teach the mathematics involved, explain what each criterion rewards, challenge whether the chosen topic can carry enough mathematics, point out where a method is unsound, and mark the student's own draft against the descriptors. A tutor may not supply text or produce the exploration. The reflection and engagement criteria are scored from the student's own account of how the work developed, so coached work that the student did themselves scores better than work they did not, quite apart from the misconduct risk.

Which command terms cost Business Bay students the most marks?+

'Explain' is the biggest single loss, because it demands a connected mechanism and students supply a description instead. 'Hence' in a mathematics question is the second: it signals that the previous result must be used, and restarting from scratch forfeits method marks even when the final answer is right. In the sciences, 'deduce' expects a conclusion drawn from information given rather than recalled. In Economics, a 15-mark question expects a judgement that a 10-mark question does not. This is fixable quickly. Two to four sessions of deliberate command-term practice against real mark schemes usually recovers more marks than another full content pass.

Is Paper 3 worth tutoring separately for a Maths AA HL student in Business Bay?+

Usually yes, because it is 20 per cent of the grade in a question style nothing else in the course rehearses. Paper 3 is two extended, structured investigations that build sub-part by sub-part, and the common failure is not a knowledge gap but abandoning the question at the first sub-part the student cannot see. Working forward from a given result is a learnable habit, and it needs practice on whole Paper 3 questions rather than on topic exercises. Schools often have the least timetable room for this component, which makes it one of the higher-return things a weekly online session can cover in the final two terms.

My child is in DP1 near Business Bay and already behind. Is it too late to start?+

DP1 is the cheapest point in the programme to intervene, so no. Two things usually need attention at this stage, and neither is content. The first is the gap between criterion-based MYP marking and timed Diploma mark schemes, which is where most of the first-term shock comes from. The second is the Internal Assessment and Extended Essay timeline, which slips in DP1 because those components have no external paper attached and lose out to the ones that do. Eight to twelve weeks of structured work now costs considerably less than repairing the same gap under exam pressure in DP2.

Does a tutor living near Business Bay beat a specialist teaching online?+

For most Diploma subjects, no. Proximity helps with transport and nothing else, and transport is not part of the teaching. The Diploma has six subject groups, two levels and two mathematics routes, so the useful question is whether the tutor knows the exact paper structure your child sits. A radius of a 20-minute drive around a tower in Business Bay does not reliably contain that person, and paying the in-home premium narrows the choice further. Where proximity genuinely matters is practical laboratory work, and that is delivered by the school rather than by any tutor, in-home or online.

How can a Business Bay parent check that a private tutor holds the MoHRE permit?+

Ask to see it. Private tutoring in the UAE is regulated under Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023, and the private tuition work permit is issued by MoHRE free of charge for two years. Eligible applicants include teachers registered in government or private schools, government and private-sector employees, unemployed residents, university students and school students aged 15 to 18. Anyone offering private tutoring without a permit is subject to fines and penalties under the applicable laws, though no fine schedule is published, so treat any specific amount you read online as unverified. MoHRE's own service page is the route to check the requirement.

Do Arabic and Islamic Education count towards UAE equivalency for a Business Bay student?+

Not towards the five-subject count on the British track. The Ministry of Education requires five accredited subjects at IGCSE or GCSE at no less than grade E or 3, and Arabic and Islamic education are not included among those five, plus one A Level at grade E or two AS Levels at the same grade. One page currently ranking for UAE tutoring searches states six IGCSE subjects, which does not match the published rule. The subjects still have to be taken, because KHDA requires them in Dubai private schools regardless of curriculum. Verify your child's position through the Ministry or your emirate's attestation channel before it matters.

Can Business Bay lessons move to post-iftar timing during Ramadan?+

Yes, and they routinely do. School hours shorten during Ramadan, energy profiles change and families reorganise the evening around iftar, so sessions shift to late morning or to after iftar. Online scheduling makes that a calendar change rather than a logistics problem, which matters in a city where the roads immediately before sunset are at their most difficult. For a DP2 student the Ramadan weeks usually sit close to the May session, so pausing for a month is expensive. We plan the term around the shift instead, with the slot agreed before Ramadan starts rather than week by week.

What happens if no tutor covers my child's Higher Level subject in Business Bay?+

We say so, with a timescale, rather than placing a near-match. Some combinations are genuinely scarce, particularly Higher Level subjects outside the common six and second languages at Higher Level. If we cannot cover it we will tell you at the matching stage, suggest what else would move the grade in the time available, and keep the request open. Because delivery is online, availability is not limited to tutors living within reach of Business Bay, which widens the pool considerably; it does not make it infinite. An honest no at the start is cheaper for your child than three wasted sessions.

How many weeks of IB tutoring do Business Bay families usually book?+

Three patterns dominate. A single problem subject in DP1 typically runs as a weekly session across a term, around twelve weeks, with a review at six. Internal Assessment or Extended Essay coaching runs shorter and denser, four to eight sessions timed to the school's own submission deadlines rather than the IB's. The exam run before the May session is eight to twelve weeks at two or three sessions a week across one or two subjects. We review at six sessions in every case and will say if the pairing or the plan is not working, which is a more useful conversation than a renewal reminder.

Start with the paper, not the postcode

If you are searching for an IB home tutor in Business Bay, the useful first step is to name the component rather than the subject: Paper 3, the exploration, the HL Essay, Paper 2 extended responses. Tell us that, your child's level and the date that is already fixed in the school calendar, and we will match a specialist in exactly that and run a trial lesson before anything is booked. Lessons are one-to-one and online, on Gulf Standard Time, with no home visits anywhere in the UAE. What you get instead is the tutor who teaches that paper, at a time your child is actually home and able to think.
