Best IGCSE Online Tutor in the UAE

Most families searching for the best IGCSE online tutor in the UAE are closer to a deadline than they realise, and the deadline is rarely the exam itself. Best is not a fixed property of a tutor. It changes with where your child sits in the Cambridge or Pearson Edexcel series, and the right person in October of Year 10 is not the right person in February of Year 11. This page lays the IGCSE year out backwards from the paper, names who owns each date, publishes what this market charges in AED, and explains how the teaching is delivered one-to-one over live video.

  • Lessons run one-to-one over live video, timed to Gulf Standard Time
  • Plans are built backwards from the series your child is actually entered for
  • Every AED figure here is a published market rate with its source named
  • A tutor teaches and gives feedback; assessed work stays the student's own

IB & IGCSE in the UAE

Best is a judgement about timing, not a league position

No authority ranks IGCSE tutors in the UAE. KHDA inspects schools, ADEK licenses them in Abu Dhabi and Al Ain, SPEA regulates them in Sharjah, and the federal Ministry of Education supervises the private schools of Ajman, Umm Al Quwain and Fujairah. None of these bodies publishes a tutor league table, and any site claiming a place on one has made it up. So the word best, on this query, has to be converted into something a parent can actually test. The most useful conversion is time. An IGCSE is a timetabled qualification with fixed entry deadlines, fixed paper windows and fixed results dates, and the hour you are buying is worth a different amount depending on how many of those dates are still in front of you.

Consider two families in the same building in Dubai. The first has a daughter in Year 10 who sat her first set of school examinations in June and came out three grades short in Chemistry. The second has a son in Year 11 whose Cambridge IGCSE final entry deadline passed in November, with papers starting in early February. The first family should be buying diagnosis: which topics are genuinely weak, whether Core or Extended tier entry is the honest choice, whether nine subjects is the right number. The second family should be buying paper technique under timed conditions, because the subject list is already locked and only execution is still movable. The same tutor can be excellent for one and a poor use of money for the other.

That is the organising idea of this page. Rather than a list of adjectives about tutors, you get the IGCSE exam series laid out backwards from the paper, with the one question that separates a useful tutor from a plausible one at each station. The dates used here come from Cambridge International and Pearson's own published key-date documents, read in October 2026, and the sources are named in each table caption so you can check them. Dates move; the structure does not.

Delivery matters to the argument. IB Gram teaches UAE families online, one-to-one over live video, and does not arrange visits to addresses anywhere in the Emirates. That is a deliberate consequence of the same timing logic. A family in Al Ain needing Extended-tier Physics eight weeks before a paper cannot afford to choose from the small number of specialists who happen to live within a thirty-minute drive. Online delivery makes the pool a national one, puts the session in the hour after Maghrib rather than the hour after a commute, and keeps the marked script, the shared screen and the past paper in one place the student can reopen the next morning.

What follows is long because the IGCSE year has more moving parts than a tutoring advertisement admits: three Cambridge series a year, two boards with different codes for the same subject, six administrative zones each with their own version of the timetable, forecast grades due inside the exam window itself, a mandatory block of Arabic, Islamic Education and Social Studies sharing the same week, and a Ministry of Education equivalency file that cares about five subjects and not six. A tutor who cannot talk about those things is selling general study help, which is a perfectly real product, but it is not the thing this search is looking for.

At a glance

  • No UAE authority ranks tutors; the testable question is what the hour buys at this point in the cycle
  • Cambridge runs IGCSE in March, June and November series; Pearson Edexcel runs May/June and November
  • Final entries for the Cambridge March 2027 series closed on 27 November 2026, months before the papers
  • Forecast grades for that series were due 27 February 2027, inside the exam period itself
  • Teaching is one-to-one over live video across all seven emirates, with no visits to UAE addresses
  • Market rates in this country run from AED 45 to AED 650+ an hour depending on who is teaching
IB programmes

Every IB programme stage, mapped to UAE school years

An IGCSE sits between two other programmes that shape it: the lower-secondary years that decide which tier a student can be entered for, and the post-16 route that decides which grades matter. Buying tuition without looking at both ends is how families spend money on the wrong subject. These are the four programmes a UAE IGCSE household usually has to think about at once.

Lower SecondaryAges 11-14 · Years 7-9

Cambridge Lower Secondary and Checkpoint

The three years before the IGCSE course begins, ending at many UAE schools with Cambridge Checkpoint tests. Cambridge runs Checkpoint in March, May and October, which makes it the earliest external measurement a family gets. The marks matter less than their pattern: a student who loses most marks on extended-response questions in Year 9 will lose them on IGCSE Paper 2 as well, and that is cheap to correct two years before an entry form exists.

In Dubai, Abu Dhabi and Sharjah these years are also where Arabic streaming is set, because KHDA requires separate classes for Arabs and non-Arabs in Arabic as a first language, Islamic Education and Social Studies. A student placed in the wrong stream in Year 7 can carry that misplacement into an IGCSE year, and it is far easier to query with the school early than during the entry window.

IGCSEAges 14-16 · Years 10-11

Cambridge IGCSE

Two years, typically eight to ten subjects, each with its own four-digit syllabus code. Entry is by tier in many subjects: Core caps the available grades, Extended opens the full range and a harder paper. Cambridge runs the qualification in a June series and a November series, with a March series available at some centres, and every centre is placed in one of six administrative zones that each receive their own version of the timetable.

UAE centres sit across those zones, which is why two schools in the same emirate can examine the same subject on different days. Cambridge states plainly that it cannot accept responsibility for candidates who miss an exam after the wrong zone timetable was used, so the Cambridge exam zone timetable your centre works from is a fact worth having in writing before any revision plan is drawn up.

Int'l GCSEAges 14-16 · Years 10-11

Pearson Edexcel International GCSE

The other board a UAE British-curriculum school is likely to use, with its own codes: 4MA1 for Mathematics Specification A, 4PH1 for Physics, 4CH1 for Chemistry. Pearson examines in May/June and November each year. The November 2026 final timetable ran from late October to 19 November 2026. Tiering language differs from Cambridge: Foundation and Higher rather than Core and Extended, with a different approach to how practical skills are assessed.

Mixed-board timetables are common in the Emirates, and a student can sit Pearson Mathematics alongside Cambridge Sciences in the same year. That is permitted and sometimes sensible, but it doubles the number of published calendars the household has to track, and the two boards release results on different dates: Pearson's June 2026 results reached centres on 19 August 2026 and students on 20 August 2026.

Post-16Ages 16-19 · Years 12-13

International AS and A Level, or the IB Diploma Programme

What the IGCSE grades are actually for. Both routes use Year 11 results to decide subject access, and both have thresholds a family should know before choosing which IGCSE subjects to defend. A grade that only needs to clear a minimum is a poor place to spend forty hours of tuition; a grade that is a prerequisite for a Higher Level or A Level subject is a good one.

The UAE Ministry of Education equivalency route for British-curriculum students, as reported in July 2026, asks for five accredited GCSE or IGCSE subjects at no less than grade E or grade 3, plus one subject at Advanced Level at grade E or two at Advanced Subsidiary Level. That five-subject count is the single most useful number a UAE IGCSE family can hold, and one competing site publishes it as six.

Subject coverage

IB and IGCSE subjects we tutor

Subject choice on this page is written around the calendar question: when does work on this subject stop being cheap? A coursework subject closes earlier than an examined one, a practical subject needs its paper identified in advance, and a tiered subject has a decision attached to the entry form. These are the IGCSE subjects UAE families most often ask for.

Mathematics

Core and Extended tier (Cambridge 0580) or Foundation and Higher (Pearson 4MA1)

The tier decision here has the hardest consequence, because Core entry caps the grade and closes some post-16 doors. Marks are usually lost not on unfamiliar content but on multi-step problems where a method mark is available and never claimed. Work on setting out, not on new topics, is what moves a 5 to a 6.

Additional Mathematics

Extended-tier students only (Cambridge 0606)

Taken alongside the main qualification at some UAE schools as preparation for A Level Mathematics. It rewards algebraic fluency rather than breadth, and students who were comfortable with the Extended paper can still be surprised by the pace. Worth starting in the summer between Years 10 and 11, not in the exam term.

Physics

Core and Extended (Cambridge 0625) or Pearson 4PH1

Electricity and waves produce the biggest mark gaps in this market, usually because circuit reasoning was learned as a set of rules. The practical component differs by board and sometimes by centre, so the first thing a tutor should establish is which paper carries those marks for your child, then teach the written reasoning that paper actually asks for.

Chemistry

Core and Extended (Cambridge 0620) or Pearson 4CH1

Moles arithmetic and organic reaction pathways are where the grade is decided, and both are learnable quickly under direct teaching because they are procedural. The qualitative analysis questions are different: they need the student to have thought about what an observation rules out, which is a habit rather than a topic.

Biology

Core and Extended (Cambridge 0610) or Pearson 4BI1

The content volume makes this feel like a memory subject, which is why students over-revise definitions and under-practise data-response questions. Marks concentrate in questions asking the student to explain a result from a table or graph, and that is a technique a tutor can drill in a fixed number of sessions.

Co-ordinated and Combined Sciences

Double or single award (Cambridge 0654 and 0653)

Chosen where a student takes sciences without three separate qualifications. The syllabus is a selection, not a summary, so a tutor teaching from the separate-science specification wastes hours on content the papers will not ask for. Establishing which award the entry is for is the first job, before any teaching happens.

English as a First Language

Cambridge 0500, or 0990 on the 9-1 scale, or Pearson 4EA1

The directed-writing and reading-response tasks reward a repeatable structure, which is the fastest-moving part of any IGCSE grade. Students in the Emirates often write fluently and still lose marks for not answering the question asked. Marked practice with the specific mark scheme is what changes the number.

English as a Second Language

Cambridge 0510 and 0511

A different qualification from First Language English with a different mark scheme, and the two are sometimes confused inside the same family. Speaking components are handled by the centre. The written papers reward precision in short-answer reading tasks far more than essay flourish, and that is coachable in a short block.

Economics

Cambridge 0455 or Pearson 4EC1

Data-response questions carry the grade and reward a student who can read a diagram quickly and write a two-sided evaluation. Most lost marks come from definitions given where analysis was asked for. A tutor should be marking against the command term, not the topic list, from the first session.

Business Studies

Cambridge 0450

Case-study papers reward application to the specific business in front of the student rather than textbook recall, which is why strong-content candidates plateau at a grade 6. Practice with past case studies under time, with a marked script returned, is the only reliable way to move it.

Computer Science

Cambridge 0478

Split between theory and problem-solving, and the two fail for different reasons. Theory marks go missing on precise terminology; algorithm marks go missing on tracing and on writing pseudocode that a marker can follow. Both are short-cycle fixes under a screen share, which suits live video teaching well.

Arabic as a First or Additional Language

Cambridge 0508 and 0544 routes, as entered by the centre

Studied in UAE schools alongside the mandatory Ministry subjects, with KHDA requiring separate classes for Arabs and non-Arabs. Support here must be built around the school's own scheme of work, because for the mandatory subjects the use of different or additional content without prior Ministry permission is not allowed.

How sessions run

Tutoring formats built around UAE school timetables

Because the value of an hour depends on how many dates are left, the formats below are defined by position in the cycle rather than by package size. Each one runs one-to-one over live video, with the same tutor each week wherever the timetable allows it, and the session length set to the work rather than to a round number.

Weekly one-to-one through Years 10 and 11

The default: one subject, one hour or ninety minutes a week, running with the school's own scheme of work. Its purpose in Year 10 is diagnosis and tier evidence, so that the entry form submitted a year later is based on marked work rather than on a hopeful guess. In Year 11 the same slot shifts to paper practice without the plan having to be rebuilt.

  • Same tutor weekly, working from the syllabus code on the statement of entry
  • Marked work returned between sessions, not just discussed during them
  • A tier recommendation on evidence before the entry window opens
  • Session notes a parent can read without having sat in the lesson

A pre-entry triage block

Four to six sessions in the autumn of Year 11, aimed squarely at the Cambridge IGCSE final entry deadline. The job is not teaching new content; it is finding out which subjects are at risk, which tier entry is honest, and where the household's tuition budget should go once the subject list stops being changeable. Families who do this report fewer wasted hours in the spring.

  • A diagnostic paper per subject under timed conditions
  • Core and Extended tier entry reviewed against actual marks
  • A written ranking of subjects by marks available per hour of work
  • A single decision list to take to the school's exams officer

An eight-week paper-conditions block

Used once entries are in and the window is close. Every session is built around a full past paper or section sat under time, then marked against the published scheme and rebuilt. Content teaching happens only where a mark was lost to content. This is the format that moves grades late, and it is also the one most often sold as something vaguer.

  • One timed component per week, marked and returned with the script annotated
  • Command-term work on the questions that actually carry the marks
  • A fixed end date, so the block does not quietly become a subscription
  • Session timing after Maghrib or after Iftar during Ramadan where needed

A post-results retake sprint

Results land in August for the June series and in January for the November one. A retake decision has to be made inside days, not weeks, because the next entry deadline is already approaching. This format starts with reading the actual result profile, then commits to one or two subjects for the next available series rather than repeating a full year of teaching.

  • A result-by-result read before any teaching is booked
  • An IGCSE retake in the November series costed against waiting for June
  • Entry-route check: through the school, or as a private candidate
  • A plan that fits the weeks genuinely available, not an ideal term

What IB and IGCSE study actually looks like in the UAE

01

What a search for the best IGCSE online tutor is really asking

The question behind this search is almost never who is objectively best. It is: given where my child is now, what should I be paying someone to do? Those are different questions with different answers, and the second one has a checkable answer. An IGCSE cycle has six recognisable stations, and at each of them the useful tutor looks different. Pay for diagnosis in Year 10 and you buy two years of better decisions. Pay for diagnosis eight weeks before a paper and you have bought a report you no longer have time to act on.

This is also why the advertising in this market is so uninformative. Every provider offers experienced tutors, personalised plans and strong results, because those phrases are true of anyone and commit to nothing. None of them tells you whether the person in front of your child can read a Cambridge specification, name which paper carries the practical marks for 0625, or explain what a forecast grade does and does not affect. Those are the questions that separate a subject teacher from a study buddy, and they are answerable in a first conversation.

The table below is the shortest version of this page. It states what best has to mean at each point in the cycle, the question that tests whether a tutor meets it, and the thing that is simply not worth buying at that stage. Read your own row first; the rest of the page then explains the dates and the numbers behind it.

One caution before the table. The stage your child is at is defined by the entry, not by the school term. A Year 11 student who has already been entered for the March series is further through the cycle in November than a Year 11 student sitting in June, and should be buying something different. Find the series first.

02

One published series, counted backwards from the paper

Here is the fact that reorganises most families' thinking: the decisions that matter are made long before the exam. Cambridge's own key dates for the March 2027 series put final entries on 27 November 2026 and the exam period from 3 February to 4 March 2027. Forecast grades were due on 27 February 2027, which falls inside the exam window itself. Results went to centres on Cambridge Direct on 13 May, with certificates issued in late June. Read that sequence in reverse and you can see where tuition money has leverage and where it is merely comfort.

The entry deadline is the hinge. Before it, a family can still change which subjects are entered and at which tier, which means a marked diagnostic in October is worth more than an extra month of teaching. After it, the subject list and the tier are fixed, and every hour has to be spent on execution: paper technique, timing, command terms, the specific question types that carry marks. A tutor who cannot tell you which side of that hinge you are on cannot plan.

The forecast grade is the part families most often misunderstand. It is submitted by teaching staff at the centre and it is not the result; it is used administratively and is often what sixth-form and university conversations run on until the real grade arrives. A tutor cannot and should not try to influence a forecast directly. What tutoring can do is make sure the evidence the forecast is based on, usually mock performance and recent marked work, exists and is current before that date passes.

The same arithmetic applies to the other series, with different numbers. Pearson's November 2026 final timetable ran from late October to 19 November 2026. Pearson's June 2026 results reached centres on 19 August and students on 20 August 2026, while November 2025 results reached students on 22 January 2026. Those two dates are the start of the retake clock, not the end of the year, and the next entry deadline is usually closer than it feels.

Three series a year, and which doors are open when

Most UAE families assume there is one exam in the summer. There is not. Cambridge International runs IGCSE, O Level and International A Level in a June series and a November series, with a March series at some centres, and Primary and Lower Secondary Checkpoint tests in March, May and October. Pearson Edexcel International GCSE runs in May/June and November. That means a student who has a bad June has an option in the autumn, and a student who needs one subject early may have a route the family never knew existed.

It also means the first thing to establish is which series your child is entered for, because everything else follows from it. A Year 11 student in a November-series centre is doing in September what a June-series student does in March. Advice copied from a friend at another school is often advice for a different calendar. The document to ask for is the statement of entry: it lists the subjects, the syllabus codes, the components and the candidate number, and it is the only piece of paper that settles the question.

The zone question sits on top of this. Cambridge allocates every centre to one of six administrative zones, states that it is essential to use the correct version of the timetable for your zone, and says plainly that it cannot accept responsibility for candidates who miss an exam when the wrong version was used. Two schools in the same emirate can therefore examine the same subject on different days. Any revision plan built from a timetable downloaded at random is built on the wrong dates.

Finally, the November route is a genuine instrument and not just a consolation. A single-subject entry in the autumn costs a fraction of a repeated year and keeps a student with their cohort. It is also the reason a disappointing August can be acted on within a fortnight rather than mourned for a term, provided somebody has already checked whether the centre offers the series and what the entry route is for a private candidate.

Four characters that decide what a tutor should be teaching

A syllabus code is the most useful thing on your child's statement of entry and the least discussed thing in this market. Cambridge IGCSE Mathematics is 0580; Physics is 0625; Chemistry is 0620; Biology is 0610. Pearson's equivalents carry a different form entirely: 4MA1 for Mathematics Specification A, 4PH1 for Physics, 4CH1 for Chemistry, 4BI1 for Biology. Two students in the same class year, in the same emirate, in nominally the same subject, can be sitting materially different papers.

The practical consequence is simple. A tutor teaching generic IGCSE Physics will cover content that one board examines and the other does not, will use mark-scheme language the student will not see, and will prepare for a practical component that may not exist in that student's entry. Hours spent that way are not wasted in a learning sense, but they are wasted in a marks sense, and marks are what the family is buying.

This is also the clearest test of a prospective tutor. Ask which code your child is entered for and what changes about their teaching as a result. A specialist answers immediately and in specifics: in this subject that board puts the data-response marks in Paper 2, this one examines practical skills inside the written papers, this syllabus provides a formula sheet and that one does not. Someone who says it makes little difference has told you what you needed to know.

Codes change, which is why the table below asks you to confirm the current version with the centre rather than treating it as fixed. Boards also run parallel versions of a subject, as with Cambridge First Language English on the traditional scale and on the 9 to 1 scale. The question to ask the school is not which subject but which specification and which components, and to have the answer written down before the first session happens.

Where a mock mark actually comes from

IGCSE mock examinations are the only external-style measurement most students get before the real thing, and they are routinely read as a verdict instead of as data. A grade 5 does not mean a student is a grade 5 student. It means that on that paper, on that day, the marks went missing in a particular pattern, and the pattern is the useful part. Four students can arrive at the same mark for four different reasons that need four different responses.

The most common pattern in this market is unfinished papers. A student who understands the content and loses fifteen marks in the last two questions has a timing problem, not a knowledge problem, and timing is among the fastest things to improve with marked, timed practice. The second most common is method marks never claimed: working done mentally, answers written bare, credit unavailable even where the reasoning was right. The third is the command term read as an invitation to write everything known about a topic.

Each of these responds to a different intervention, and only one of them is re-teaching. That matters when weeks are finite. A family with eight weeks left who spends them revisiting the syllabus from topic one will repeat the same script in the real paper. The same eight weeks spent on one timed component a week, marked against the published scheme and rebuilt with the student, usually produces visible movement because it targets the actual loss.

What a mock cannot do is predict. Nobody can promise a grade, and any provider in this market offering one should be treated with real scepticism: the paper is not written yet, the boundaries are not set, and the student has to sit it alone. What a mock can do is tell you honestly where the next available marks are, which is the only thing a tutoring decision needs.

WHAT A MOCK SCRIPT USUALLY SHOWS, AND WHAT A FIXED RUN OF WEEKS CAN CHANGE

06

What this market charges, and what starting late does to the total

Three of the main competing pages for this query publish no price at all, and two of the ones that do quote in US dollars, which is not the currency a UAE family transacts in. So here are IGCSE tutor rates in AED as those providers themselves publish them, read in October 2026. These are market figures, not IB Gram's prices: our own position is a free first trial lesson and a conversation about what the work actually requires before any money changes hands.

The spread is wide for a reason. At the bottom, EdFlik advertises from AED 45 to 65 an hour and Tutopiya from roughly AED 33 to 52, which generally buys supervision and topic recap from a tutor earlier in their own education. In the middle, Unitors publishes from AED 150 an hour for IGCSE and AED 200 for IB. Specialist bands run higher: TutorChase lists AED 270, Bestimate's Tutoring Cost Dubai 2026 table puts specialist work at AED 200 to 450 and above, and BartyED publishes AED 650 for its premium tier.

Monthly numbers are where the arithmetic bites. Packages advertised in this market include around AED 799 a month for eight online sessions and AED 1,599 to 1,799 a month for four two-hour visiting sessions. Bestimate's monthly estimates for a weekly one-hour session run AED 240 to 600 at the budget end, AED 600 to 1,200 in the middle and AED 1,000 to 2,000 and above for specialist exam-year work. Set against a Dubai school fee that KHDA confirmed would not rise for 2026-27, those figures are a real line in a household budget.

Timing changes the total more than the hourly rate does. A family that starts in Year 10 at one session a week in a single subject, and uses the first block to decide where the hours should go, usually buys fewer hours overall than a family that starts eight weeks out in four subjects at once. Late starting also narrows the format choice: the eight-week paper-conditions block is the only thing that works with that little runway, and it is the most expensive way per week to arrive at the same place.

A visiting tutor against one-to-one over live video, with a date that cannot move

Many families begin by looking for someone to come to the house, and the instinct is reasonable: a person in the room is easier to supervise and feels more committed. It is worth answering the question properly rather than deflecting it. A visiting arrangement in this market costs roughly AED 180 to 500 an hour with travel inside the figure, and the real constraint is not price but geography: the tutor pool shrinks to whoever can reach your address and back inside a school evening, which in Dubai or Abu Dhabi traffic can mean an hour of travel for an hour of teaching.

IB Gram delivers UAE teaching as one-to-one online tuition, one-to-one over live video, and arranges no visits to addresses in the Emirates. Home visits are a service we run only in India. That is not a limitation we are apologising for; it is the decision that makes a national specialist available to a family in Fujairah on the same terms as a family in Jumeirah. With a paper date that cannot move, the question is not who is nearest. It is who can teach that specification at that tier in the weeks that remain.

There are honest trade-offs. A screen asks more of a student's own concentration, a young child needs a parent nearby for the first sessions, and a practical skill that requires a laboratory cannot be taught over video by anyone. Against that: no travel surcharge, no cancelled session because of a road closure, a shared screen that both people can annotate, and a marked script that exists as a file rather than as a loose page in a bag. The comparison below is on the points that actually differ.

The ten-weeks-left column is the one families underrate. At that stage the scarce resource is not goodwill, it is specialist hours at the right tier on the right board, and travel time is the single largest consumer of a good tutor's available week. Removing it is how a household in a small emirate gets the same person a Dubai household would get.

Coursework, practicals and the line a tutor does not cross

One site ranking for queries near this one sells completed Internal Assessments. It is worth being blunt about what that is: assessed work has to be the student's own, submitting purchased work is malpractice, and the consequence falls on the student, not on the seller. Any provider willing to hand over finished text has told you exactly how much they care about your child's file. A tutor teaches, explains, questions, models technique and gives feedback on work the student produced.

In practice the boundary is clearer than families fear. A tutor may explain what a command term requires, work through a comparable example that is not the assessed task, read a student's own draft and say where the reasoning is thin, teach the referencing convention, and help plan the time between now and the school's deadline. A tutor may not supply sentences to be submitted, rewrite a draft into final form, or provide answers to coursework questions. If the student could not explain their own work to their teacher, something went wrong.

Practical components need their own paragraph because they are where online teaching is most often misrepresented. The laboratory skills themselves need a laboratory, and the school provides it. What boards award marks for in the written components is reasoning about method, variables, sources of error, data handling and conclusions, and that reasoning is taught well over video with a shared screen and real past-paper data. The first step is establishing which component carries those marks in your child's entry, because it differs by board and by subject.

Past papers carry one more constraint worth stating. Board materials are copyright, so a tutor should be working from papers the school or the family legitimately holds, or from the board's own published site, and should not be distributing mark schemes or subject guides as downloads. That is also the honest answer to a common question: nobody in this market has access to unreleased papers or to grade boundaries before they are published, and anyone implying otherwise is selling a story.

Five subjects, not six: the Ministry file opened before results day

Ministry of Education equivalency is the step that converts a foreign school certificate into something a UAE university or employer can act on, and it has a number attached that many families meet too late. On the British track, as reported in July 2026, a student must pass five accredited subjects in GCSE or IGCSE certificates at no less than grade E or grade 3, and must show either one accredited subject at Advanced Level at no less than grade E or two at Advanced Subsidiary Level at the same grade.

Two details inside that rule change tuition decisions. First, Arabic and Islamic education are not included among the five required subjects, so a student relying on a strong Arabic grade to make up the count has a gap they do not know about. Second, five is the number: one site ranking for UAE IGCSE queries states that candidates here need six, which is the kind of error that leads a family to enter and pay for an extra subject. Verify the current rule on moe.gov.ae before relying on either figure, including this page's.

For families on other curricula, the comparison is useful context. On the American track the same July 2026 reporting describes an English requirement met by a score of 5 in the academic IELTS, 61 in the TOEFL iBT, or 450 in the reading and writing section of the SAT, with mathematics requiring at least 450 in the SAT Mathematics test before applying. No IB points threshold is published in that source, so no figure for the Diploma appears on this page; ask the Ministry or your school's coordinator rather than a tutoring site.

The timing point is the one that belongs on a calendar-led page. Equivalency is an administrative process with its own queues, and it runs on the grades that already exist. That means the file should be opened and understood in Year 10, when a subject can still be added or a tier still changed, rather than in the week after results when the only remaining instrument is a retake. IB Gram does not perform equivalency or attestation and cannot promise an outcome in it; this is the official channel, described so you can use it early.

Who regulates the school, who permits the tutor, and the three subjects nobody mentions

Two separate permissions sit around a UAE tutoring arrangement, and conflating them is how marketing claims get made. The first concerns schools: KHDA oversees private education quality in Dubai, ADEK supervises licensing and accreditation in Abu Dhabi and Al Ain, the Sharjah Private Education Authority regulates private education in Sharjah, Ras Al Khaimah's Department of Knowledge does the same there, and the federal Ministry of Education supervises private schools in Ajman, Umm Al Quwain and Fujairah. Sharjah's and Ras Al Khaimah's authorities also approve fees, curricula, programmes, courses, activities and assessment methods.

The second concerns tutors. Private tuition in the UAE is permitted through a MoHRE work permit introduced by Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023. It is granted free of charge for two years, and eligible applicants include teachers registered in government or private schools, government and private-sector employees, unemployed individuals, university students and school students aged 15 to 18. MoHRE's own service is listed as Issuance of a New Work Permit for private tutor licensing, applied for through its app, website and e-services, with a two-working-day completion time. Individuals tutoring without a permit are subject to fines and penalties under the applicable laws, and no fine schedule is published, so no amount is quoted here.

Neither permission makes any tutoring company an arm of a regulator. IB Gram is not approved, accredited or licensed by KHDA, ADEK, SPEA, the Ministry of Education, the IB, Cambridge or Pearson, and holds no school partnerships. A KHDA Educational Services Permit is a specific instrument issued to training institutes with premises, and a phrase like regulator-approved tutors, which appears freely in this market, usually means nothing at all. Ask what the claim refers to, and ask to see it.

Then there is the part of the week nobody selling IGCSE tuition mentions. Arabic, Islamic Education and Social or Moral Studies are mandatory in Dubai private schools whatever international curriculum the school is licensed for. KHDA requires separate classes for Arabs and non-Arabs in Arabic as a first language, Islamic Education and Social Studies, and states that combined classes are strictly prohibited. Instructional time is calculated on a 40-minute lesson unit, with at least 25 minutes advised for any mandatory-subject lesson, and the use of different or additional content without prior Ministry permission is not allowed. Those lessons take real hours out of a Year 11 week, and any realistic revision plan has to be drawn around them.

Where we tutor

The seven emirates, and what changes about an IGCSE plan in each

Delivery is the same everywhere, over live video, but the administrative facts are not. The authority holding your child's school file differs by emirate, the number of nearby centres differs, and so does the practical question of when a session can start on a school night. Here is what actually changes as you move around the country.

Dubai

KHDA oversees the quality of private education here. The emirate had 387,441 private-school students across 227 schools and 17 curricula in 2024-25, with 37 per cent on a UK curriculum, so IGCSE specialists are easiest to find and the market price spread is widest.

Abu Dhabi

ADEK supervises licensing and accreditation of private schools. Press reporting of ADEK's professional-ethics rules indicates school staff may not give paid private tuition to students enrolled at their own school, which rules out the arrangement many families are first offered.

Al Ain

Also under ADEK, with far fewer British-curriculum centres than the island. Tier and board choices are therefore set by a small number of schools, and a family needing an Extended-tier specialist in a minority subject benefits most from a national rather than a local tutor pool.

Sharjah

The Sharjah Private Education Authority regulates private education and approves tuition fees, curricula, programmes, courses, activities and assessment methods. That makes assessment practice at a Sharjah school an approved matter, so a tutor should work from the school's scheme rather than around it.

Ajman

The federal Ministry of Education supervises private schools here. Fewer centres means a longer run to the nearest examination venue on a paper morning, which is worth factoring into the last week of a revision plan rather than discovering on the day.

Ras Al Khaimah

The Department of Knowledge regulates private education in the emirate and, like Sharjah's authority, approves fees, curricula, courses and assessment methods. The IGCSE cohort is small, so mixed-board timetables and private-candidate entries are more common than in Dubai.

Fujairah

Under federal Ministry of Education supervision. The east-coast drive puts a hard limit on any arrangement involving travel, which is the practical reason online IGCSE tuition in the UAE is the format that reaches this emirate at the same standard as the others.

Umm Al Quwain

Also federally supervised. Families here are the clearest case for a national tutor pool: the local supply of Extended-tier Chemistry or Computer Science teaching is thin, and a video session removes distance from the decision entirely.

School ecosystem

IB and Cambridge school communities we support in the UAE

Dubai

The largest British-curriculum cluster in the country, and the one adding capacity fastest: KHDA confirmed seven new private schools for 2026-27, four of them UK curriculum, creating 16,846 new places, after enrolment rose six per cent the previous year. More places does not automatically mean more Extended-tier specialists, which is where tuition demand comes from.

Abu Dhabi and Al Ain

A smaller cluster under ADEK, with several long-established British-curriculum schools and a growing group of newer ones. Because the own-school tutoring route is closed by professional-ethics rules, families here are more likely to be looking outside the school from the start, and earlier in Year 10 than Dubai families typically are.

Smaller cohorts, a wider mix of boards, and more students sitting a subject their own school teaches in a single set. This is where a tutor who knows the specification rather than the school is most valuable, and where the November series is used most often for a single-subject retake.

How matching works

From first enquiry to a tutor who fits

  1. 01

Find the series before anything else

The first conversation establishes which board, which series and which syllabus codes your child is entered for, taken from the statement of entry rather than from memory. That single document decides which calendar the plan runs on, which papers matter and how many teaching weeks genuinely remain.

  2. 02

A free trial lesson, used as a measurement

The first session with a matched tutor is free, with no card details taken and no commitment attached. Treat it as a test: bring a marked piece of recent work and see whether the tutor can say, specifically, where the next marks are. Vague encouragement in that hour tells you what the following ten would be like.

  3. 03

    A written plan counted backwards

After the trial you get a plan built from the paper date backwards: which components get sat under time, in which weeks, and what gets deliberately left out. Plans that list topics instead of components are plans nobody can tell are working, so the plan names the evidence that will show progress.

  4. 04

Weekly sessions with marked work returned

Sessions run one-to-one over live video at a fixed weekly time, with the same tutor, and with work marked between sessions rather than only reviewed in them. You see the annotated script. Timing can move after Maghrib, or after Iftar during Ramadan, and the slot can shift during mock weeks.

  5. 05

Review at the next date on the calendar, not at a round number

Progress is reviewed when something external happens: mocks, the entry deadline, the forecast-grade submission, results. At each point the honest options include stopping. If no specialist is free for a subject and tier at your hour, you will be told that rather than offered a near-match without being asked.

Why families choose us

What UAE parents tell us matters most

The plan starts from a date you can verify

Every plan is anchored to a published board date and the source is named, so a parent can check it against cambridgeinternational.org or qualifications.pearson.com. Nothing here depends on taking a tutoring company's word for when the exam is.

Rates in AED, attributed, with ours stated separately

The figures on this page are what UAE providers publish about themselves, read in October 2026, with each band attributed. IB Gram's own position is stated separately: a free first trial lesson, then a quote for the work actually required, and no invented price list.

One tutor, one specification, one tier

Matching is done on the syllabus code and tier your child is entered for, not on subject name alone. That is the difference between teaching Physics and teaching the paper your child will actually sit, and it is the thing that stops being fixable once the entry closes.

Delivery stated plainly, with no address promised

Teaching for UAE families is one-to-one over live video and nothing else. We do not arrange visits to addresses in the Emirates, and we say so before you ask rather than after you have paid. Home visiting is a service we run only in India.

The honesty boundary written down, not implied

A tutor teaches and gives feedback on the student's own work. No assessed piece is produced, finished or supplied by anyone else, no grade is promised, and no regulator or examination board endorses this service. Those statements are here because a provider in this market does the opposite.

Unavailability disclosed before you book

Some subject, tier and time combinations have thin cover, especially in the weeks before a series. When that is the case you will hear it, with the realistic match time, instead of being matched to whoever is free and left to discover the gap three sessions in.

Questions parents ask

IB and IGCSE tutoring in the UAE: your questions answered

What should the word best actually mean when every IGCSE tutoring site claims it?+

No UAE authority ranks tutors, so best cannot mean a position on a list. The usable version is: best for this child, at this point in the series, in this subject and tier. In Year 10 that means someone who will mark work and tell you honestly whether Core or Extended is the right entry. Eight weeks before a paper it means someone who sets timed components, marks them against the published scheme and rebuilds the weak ones. Ask a prospective tutor what they would do in the first three sessions and what they will send you. A specific answer is the credential.

Our son is in Year 9 and chooses his IGCSE subjects in the spring. What can a tutor usefully do that early?+

Diagnosis, mainly, and it is the cheapest useful work in the whole cycle. At this stage a tutor can establish whether a weakness is conceptual or procedural, which subjects he is likely to be able to enter at the higher tier, and whether a planned combination is realistic alongside the mandatory Arabic, Islamic Education and Social Studies lessons. Cambridge Lower Secondary Checkpoint tests in March, May and October give an external reference point for that judgement. What is not worth buying yet is weekly examination technique for papers two years away, which will have to be rebuilt anyway.

Which document shows the exact papers and syllabus codes our child will sit?+

The statement of entry, issued by the centre after entries are submitted. It lists the candidate number, each subject, the syllabus code, the tier where one applies and the components entered. It is the only document that settles arguments about what a tutor should be teaching, and it is worth having a copy before any plan is written. If entries have not yet been made, ask the exams officer which codes and tiers are intended. The difference between Cambridge 0580 and Pearson 4MA1 changes the teaching, the formula provision and the paper pattern.

The school has not told us whether our daughter sits Cambridge or Pearson. Who do we ask?+

The school's examinations officer, not the subject teacher, because the officer submits the entries and holds the codes. Many UAE British-curriculum schools run a mixed set, with Pearson Edexcel International GCSE in one subject and Cambridge in another, which means two different published calendars in the same household. Ask for the board, the syllabus code and the series for each subject, in writing. That one email resolves most of the confusion families have about dates, because the two boards release results on different days and run different November arrangements.

What stops being changeable once final entries are submitted?+

The subject list, the board, the tier and the components. Cambridge's published key dates for the March 2027 series put the Cambridge IGCSE final entry deadline on 27 November 2026, with papers from 3 February 2027, so the decisions sit more than two months ahead of the first exam. After that date, money spent on deciding anything is money spent on something already decided. Before it, a marked diagnostic is often worth more than extra teaching, because it can still change which tier a student is entered at and which subjects get defended.

How many teaching weeks are genuinely left between January and a February paper?+

Fewer than the calendar suggests. Count the actual sessions, not the weeks: a winter break, a mock fortnight when the school suspends normal teaching, a public holiday and one illness take a nine-week run down to five or six real sessions. That arithmetic should be done before the plan is written, because a plan that assumes nine sessions and delivers five fails in a predictable way. With five sessions the honest choice is two or three ranked components sat under time, not a tour of the syllabus.

Can one tutor cover three sciences, or does each need its own specialist?+

It depends on the entry. A student taking Co-ordinated Sciences as a double award is sitting a single selected syllabus, and one tutor who knows that specification is usually the better arrangement. A student taking separate Physics, Chemistry and Biology is sitting three qualifications with three codes, and the specialist differences matter most at Extended tier and in the weeks before papers. A reasonable middle path is one tutor for the subject carrying the biggest risk, and a shorter block in a second subject once the mock marks show where the hours earn most.

Extended was dropped to Core on our son's entry without a conversation. What are our options?+

Ask the exams officer immediately whether the entry window is still open, because tier is part of the submitted entry and the deadline is months before the paper. If it can still be amended, the school will usually want marked evidence that Extended is achievable, which is exactly what a few diagnostic sessions can produce. If the window has closed, the realistic path is to secure the best available Core outcome and plan a later series for the subject if a higher grade is needed for a post-16 route. A Core entry caps the grade, so this is worth raising quickly.

Does replacing a tutor in the middle of Year 11 cost us progress?+

Less than most families fear, provided the handover is about evidence rather than impressions. What transfers is the marked work, the component plan and the list of ranked weaknesses; what does not transfer is a relationship, and that matters more for younger students than for Year 11. A fortnight of overlap is usually enough. What genuinely costs progress is staying with an arrangement that is not producing marked work, because the lost time is invisible until a mock makes it visible, and by then the entry is already in.

How does a past paper get sat under timed conditions in a video lesson?+

The student sits the component on paper, to the real clock, with the camera on and the tutor present but silent, exactly as a mock would run. The script is then photographed or scanned, marked against the published mark scheme, and returned annotated before the next session, which is spent on the specific losses rather than on general review. Working this way makes timing failures visible, which is the single most common and most fixable reason UAE students lose marks late. Shared screens also keep every marked script retrievable, instead of loose in a school bag.

Do we pay for the weeks when school is closed for term breaks?+

You should not be paying for sessions that do not happen, and any arrangement that charges a flat monthly fee across a month containing a long break is worth questioning. The useful conversation is the opposite one: term breaks are often the best teaching weeks in the year, because the student is not carrying homework, and two or three concentrated sessions then can do more than six squeezed into exam term. Decide deliberately whether a break is a pause or a block of work, and price it accordingly before the month starts.

Where should revision sit in a term that includes Ramadan and a shortened school day?+

Plan around it in advance rather than absorbing it. School days shorten during Ramadan, energy patterns change, and the honest answer is that early-evening sessions often do not work well. Sessions can move to after Iftar, which is one practical advantage of teaching over live video rather than through a travelling arrangement. If a paper window falls close to Ramadan in a given year, the heavy timed practice should be front-loaded into the weeks before it, with the Ramadan weeks used for lighter consolidation and marked work at a slower cadence.

Why does IB Gram teach UAE families over live video instead of sending someone to the house?+

Because the thing that moves marks is tier and board specificity, and travel is what destroys access to it. A visiting arrangement limits you to tutors who can reach your address and return inside a school evening, which in the northern emirates and Al Ain can mean a very short list. Online delivery makes the same specialist available in Fujairah and in Dubai. To be unambiguous: we do not arrange visits to addresses anywhere in the Emirates, and home visiting is a service we run only in India. The market rate for a visiting tutor here is roughly AED 180 to 500 an hour, with travel inside that figure.

What do UAE providers publish as their hourly IGCSE rates, and how should we read those figures?+

Read them as bands with a reason behind each. Published figures in this market, read in October 2026, run from EdFlik at AED 45 to 65 and Tutopiya from about AED 33 to 52 at the budget end, through Unitors from AED 150 for IGCSE, to TutorChase at AED 270 and Bestimate's specialist band of AED 200 to 450 and above, with BartyED at AED 650 for a premium tier. Those are their prices, not ours. What the higher bands buy is specification-level teaching and marked feedback; what they cannot buy is a promised grade.

Our daughter takes Arabic as a first language. Where does that grade sit in a Ministry equivalency file?+

Outside the count, on the reported British-track rule. The July 2026 clarification describes five accredited GCSE or IGCSE subjects at no less than grade E or grade 3, and states that Arabic and Islamic education are not included among those five. So a strong Arabic grade is valuable for school, for university applications and for life in this country, but it does not fill one of the five places. Check the current position on moe.gov.ae before relying on it, including on this page, and raise it in Year 10 while the subject list can still change.

Her coursework is due on Sunday and the session is on Friday. What is a tutor allowed to do with it?+

Teach, question and give feedback on what she has written. A tutor may explain what the task is asking for, work through a different example, read her draft and say where the reasoning or the evidence is thin, check referencing, and help plan the remaining hours. A tutor may not supply text to be submitted or turn a draft into a finished piece. Assessed work has to be her own, and buying it is malpractice with consequences that fall on the student. If she could not explain every line to her teacher, the session went wrong.

If results are disappointing, what is the first date we need to know?+

The entry deadline for the next available series, because it closes sooner than families expect. Cambridge runs a November series alongside June, and Pearson examines in November as well as May and June, so an IGCSE retake in the November series is often available for one or two subjects without repeating a year. Published results dates show how little time there is: Pearson's June 2026 results reached students on 20 August 2026, and November 2025 results reached students on 22 January 2026. Ask the exams officer about entry route and whether your centre offers the series.

Start with the date, then choose the tutor

If you take one thing from this page, make it the order of operations. Find the series and the syllabus codes on the statement of entry, count the real teaching weeks that remain, and only then decide what the hour needs to buy. A tutor who can talk about those three things specifically is worth more than one with a longer list of adjectives. Teaching runs one-to-one over live video across all seven emirates, the first matched session is free with nothing taken in advance, and if nobody is available at your subject, tier and hour, we will say so rather than offer you a near-match.
