IB MYP Tutor in The Meadows

Hiring an IB MYP tutor in The Meadows usually begins with a price question, so this page answers that one first. Published market rates for Middle Years Programme support in this part of Dubai run from about AED 45 an hour at the university-student end to AED 450 for a Diploma-trained subject specialist. IB Gram teaches families across Emirates Living one-to-one over live video, on Gulf Standard Time, in the window after the school run, and the trial lesson comes before any payment.

  • One-to-one lessons over live video, scheduled on Gulf Standard Time
  • Market MYP rates printed on this page, each with its source named
  • One free trial lesson, one subject, no card details collected
  • Tutors review your child's own work and never produce it for them

IB & IGCSE in The Meadows

What a Meadows family actually pays for MYP help, and what the money buys

Start with the monthly figure rather than the hourly one, because that is the number that decides whether tutoring survives past February. Bestimate's 2026 Dubai rate work puts a weekly one-hour slot at roughly AED 240 to AED 600 a month at the budget end, AED 600 to AED 1,200 for a qualified subject tutor, and AED 1,000 to AED 2,000 or more where an exam-year specialist is involved. Monthly packages advertised in this market sit in the same territory: around AED 799 a month for eight online sessions, and AED 1,599 to AED 1,799 a month for four two-hour villa visits. Those are market figures from other providers, dated and attributed, not an IB Gram price list.

The Middle Years Programme costs less per hour than the Diploma, and that is precisely where Meadows households lose money. Because most Dubai schools run no external MYP examination, the programme feels consequence-free, so families underspend through MYP 1 to MYP 3, notice a problem in MYP 4, and then buy specialist Diploma-band hours in a panic the autumn after. The cheapest version of MYP tutoring is three terms of correctly aimed work at the qualified-tutor rate, finishing before DP1 starts. The expensive version is doing nothing until the first DP1 report card.

Aiming the work correctly is the whole of it. An MYP subject grade is not a percentage; it is built from four criteria, lettered A to D, each marked from 0 to 8 and reported separately. A child can be strong on criterion A, knowing and understanding, and be losing most of the grade on criterion C, communicating, which is a writing and presentation problem rather than a content one. Generic homework help touches neither. A tutor who asks to see the criterion breakdown from the last report before quoting is worth more than one who quotes faster.

The Meadows sits inside Emirates Living, so the geography is specific and it matters to the bill. Emirates International School Meadows runs the IB continuum inside the community itself; plenty of other Meadows children travel out to Al Barsha, Al Sufouh or Al Barsha South, which puts them home somewhere between 15:45 and 16:40 depending on the bus route. An in-home tutor crossing from Al Barsha into Meadows 6 at that hour is paying for the traffic with your money, and the published in-home band of AED 180 to AED 500 an hour reflects it.

What IB Gram does is narrow and worth stating plainly. Lessons are one-to-one and delivered over live video, timed to Gulf Standard Time, with the tutor sharing a screen and marking in real time. IB Gram does not send tutors to homes anywhere in the UAE; villa visits are a service offered only in India. The trial lesson is free, in one subject, with no card details taken, and it exists so you can judge the teaching against the rates published further down this page before anything is spent.

IB programmes

Every IB programme stage, mapped to UAE school years

The Meadows feeds schools running two different routes to 18, and the MYP is the five-year stretch where the two still look alike. Here is what each programme is for, and what a Dubai family should expect to pay attention to inside it.

MYPAges 11-16 · MYP 1-5 · Years 7-11

Middle Years Programme

Five years across eight subject groups, assessed against four published criteria per subject rather than by examination. Each criterion is marked from 0 to 8 and the four combine into a grade from 1 to 7 using boundaries the school applies. MYP 5 carries the Personal Project and, in some schools, optional on-screen eAssessment leading to the IB MYP Certificate. Interdisciplinary units and Service as Action run alongside the subjects.

In Dubai the MYP is the minority route by enrolment, which is why MYP-specific tutoring is harder to find than IGCSE help. Emirates International School Meadows runs the continuum inside Emirates Living; Dubai International Academy Emirates Hills is the other nearby IB school a Meadows family is likely to be looking at. Both report criterion marks, so ask for the letters, not an average.

PYPAges 3-12 · Years 1-6

Primary Years Programme

Inquiry-led primary learning organised around transdisciplinary themes and closing with the Grade 5 or Year 6 Exhibition. There are no external tests and no grades in the MYP sense, so the useful tutoring question in PYP is narrow: is reading fluency, number fact recall or written structure behind where the next programme will assume it to be.

Meadows families coming out of a PYP primary and into MYP 1 usually meet the same two gaps: extended writing to a criterion, and the arithmetic fluency that MYP Extended mathematics assumes. Both are cheap to fix at the budget tutoring band in Year 6 and expensive to fix at the specialist band in MYP 4. That timing is the single biggest cost lever in this whole programme.

DPAges 16-19 · Years 12-13 · DP1-DP2

Diploma Programme

Six subjects, three at Higher Level and three at Standard Level, plus Theory of Knowledge, the Extended Essay and Creativity, Activity, Service. Assessment is external examinations in the May session for UAE schools, combined with internal assessments marked by teachers and moderated by the IB. The jump from criterion marking to percentage-weighted papers is abrupt and catches MYP 5 leavers out.

Diploma-band tutoring is where Dubai rates climb: TutorChase publishes AED 270 an hour and Bestimate puts specialist exam-year support at AED 200 to AED 450 and above. A Meadows family that gets the MYP 5 foundations right spends in the lower half of that band in DP1 rather than the upper half. That arithmetic is the argument for funding MYP properly.

IGCSEAges 14-16 · Years 10-11

Cambridge and Pearson IGCSE

The British-curriculum alternative to MYP 4 and 5, examined externally with syllabus codes on every paper: Cambridge 0580 Mathematics, 0625 Physics, Pearson 4MA1 Mathematics. Cambridge runs June and November series; Pearson runs May/June and November. Entries close months before the exam, which is the mechanical difference from the MYP calendar.

Several Meadows children sit IGCSEs at schools in Al Barsha and Al Sufouh rather than MYP 4 and 5, and some switch between the two at 14. The UAE Ministry of Education equivalency route for British-curriculum students asks for five accredited IGCSE or GCSE subjects at no less than grade E or 3, with Arabic and Islamic Education excluded from that count.

Subject coverage

IB and IGCSE subjects we tutor

MYP subjects are graded against criteria, so a subject list is only useful if it says which criterion usually costs the marks. These are the eight groups plus the two components that sit outside them, with the honest diagnosis for each.

Mathematics

Standard and Extended

Criteria are knowing and understanding, investigating patterns, communicating, and applying mathematics in real-life contexts. Most lost marks sit in investigating patterns, where a student finds the rule but cannot justify or generalise it, and in communicating, where working is missing. Extended mathematics in MYP 4 and 5 is the stream that feeds Analysis and Approaches at Higher Level.

Sciences

Integrated or Biology, Chemistry, Physics

Criteria are knowing and understanding, inquiring and designing, processing and evaluating, and reflecting on the impacts of science. Criterion B and C are where the scientific investigation marks live: variables defined properly, a method someone else could repeat, uncertainty discussed rather than ignored. Content revision alone does not move them.

Language and Literature

MYP 1-5

Criteria are analysing, organizing, producing text, and using language. Analysis marks are lost by narrating the plot instead of commenting on choices the writer made. Organising marks are lost by essay structure that has no visible argument. Both are teachable in six to eight sessions, which is why this is the cheapest MYP subject to improve.

Language Acquisition

Phases 1-6

Graded by phase rather than year, so two children in the same MYP class can be assessed against different phase descriptors. Criteria cover listening, reading, speaking and writing. Ask the school which phase your child is in before buying tutoring, because teaching to the wrong phase descriptor wastes every hour of it.

Individuals and Societies

MYP 1-5

Criteria are knowing and understanding, investigating, communicating, and thinking critically. The thinking-critically criterion is the one that separates a 5 from a 7: evaluating sources, recognising perspective and limitation, and saying what the evidence does not show. It is a habit, not a content gap.

Design

MYP 1-5

Criteria are inquiring and analysing, developing ideas, creating the solution, and evaluating. Design is frequently the subject dragging an otherwise strong MYP profile down, because the written design cycle folder is marked as heavily as the artefact. Students who build well and document badly lose half the available marks.

Arts

Visual, Music, Drama

Criteria are knowing and understanding, developing skills, thinking creatively, and responding. The process journal carries more weight than most families expect, and responding asks for informed comment on other artists' work. Tutoring here is usually about documentation discipline rather than technique.

Physical and Health Education

MYP 1-5

Criteria are knowing and understanding, planning for performance, applying and performing, and reflecting and improving performance. The two written criteria can be prepared the same way any other written criterion is, and they are routinely the reason a sporty child carries a 4 in this subject.

Personal Project

MYP 5

A self-directed project with a supervisor at school, assessed against the criteria in the current MYP projects guide covering planning, applying skills and reflecting, each marked out of 8. The process journal is the evidence. A tutor may coach planning and reflection; the project itself must be the student's own work throughout.

Interdisciplinary units and Service as Action

MYP 1-5

Interdisciplinary units are separately assessed against their own criteria and are easy to neglect because no single subject teacher owns them. Service as Action is recorded rather than graded but is a condition of programme completion. Both show up on the MYP record a DP admissions conversation looks at.

How sessions run

Tutoring formats built around UAE school timetables

Three ways a Meadows household buys MYP support, with the cost consequence of each stated rather than implied. All IB Gram teaching in the UAE happens online, one-to-one, over live video.

Weekly one-to-one, one subject

A fixed hour each week in the same subject with the same tutor, aimed at one or two named criteria rather than at the subject in general. This is the format that sits inside the AED 600 to AED 1,200 monthly band the Dubai market quotes for a qualified subject tutor, and the format most Meadows families should start with.

  • Same tutor each week, so the criterion diagnosis carries forward
  • Session notes after each lesson naming what moved and what did not
  • Rescheduled rather than lost when a school trip or tournament lands
  • Reviewed at six sessions: continue, change criterion focus, or stop

Project and coursework coaching blocks

A short, non-weekly series timed to the Personal Project or a science investigation: planning, mid-point, and reflection. Six to ten hours spread over MYP 5 rather than an hour a week for a year. The tutor coaches process, questions the plan and reads drafts the student has written; the work stays the student's throughout.

  • Scheduled around the school's own internal deadlines, not ours
  • Process journal discipline, which is where most marks are lost
  • Feedback on the student's draft; never a draft written for them
  • Cheaper in total than a weekly slot across the same period

The MYP 5 to DP1 summer bridge

Six to eight weeks over the Dubai summer break aimed at the specific jump that catches MYP leavers: percentage-weighted papers, timed writing, and the mathematics assumed by Analysis and Approaches at Higher Level. Priced at the specialist band because it needs a Diploma-experienced teacher, and the one MYP-adjacent spend that reliably reduces DP1 costs.

  • Diagnostic in week one against the actual DP1 subject choices
  • Timed written work under exam conditions, marked to DP criteria
  • Runs while the family travels, because lessons are over video
  • Ends with a written handover the DP1 tutor can start from

What IB and IGCSE study actually looks like in The Meadows

01

What MYP support costs around The Meadows, counted by the month

  • Figures are other providers' published rates, read in October 2026, not IB Gram's prices
  • IB Gram quotes after the free trial lesson, against the subject and criterion involved
  • No UAE VAT position is stated here; ask any provider whether its quote includes it
  • A package is only cheaper if the sessions are actually used before it expires

A direct answer before the detail: an MYP tutor working online with a Meadows family costs between AED 150 and AED 300 an hour at the qualified-subject-tutor band, which is roughly AED 600 to AED 1,200 a month for one weekly hour. Below that band sit university-student tutors from about AED 45 an hour. Above it sit IB-experienced specialists at AED 200 to AED 450 and more. All of those are market figures published by other providers in 2026, and each is attributed in the table.

The monthly view is the one that matters because tutoring is a subscription in everything but name. A family that signs at AED 300 an hour for two subjects has committed to AED 2,400 a month, and that commitment usually fails somewhere around the second term. The same budget spent as one weekly hour at AED 200 on the single weakest criterion, running from October to May, finishes the job. Hours concentrated on a diagnosis beat hours spread across a subject.

Note what the in-home premium is actually buying. Dubai in-home visits are quoted at AED 180 to AED 500 an hour, against AED 150 to AED 300 for an equivalently qualified tutor working online. The difference is not teaching quality; it is petrol, a Sheikh Zayed Road crossing at 16:30, and the fact that the tutor can only serve the families living within a 20-minute drive. For a Meadows household that means choosing from whoever is nearby rather than from whoever actually teaches MYP Extended mathematics.

One more number worth knowing before you budget. KHDA confirmed on 22 May 2026 that private school fees in Dubai would not rise for the 2026-27 academic year, under an economic incentives package the government valued at AED 1.5 billion. School fees are the fixed cost in a Dubai education budget and tutoring is the variable one, so a year without a fee increase is the year to spend deliberately on the variable rather than reactively.

The criterion letters are where tutoring money actually moves

An MYP report does not say 68 per cent. It says criterion A: 6, criterion B: 4, criterion C: 3, criterion D: 5, and a subject grade of 5. That breakdown is the most valuable thing a Meadows parent owns, and most tutoring is bought without anyone reading it. Each criterion is marked from 0 to 8 against published descriptors, and the four are combined into a 1-7 grade using boundaries the school applies. A child losing marks on one criterion needs a different set of lessons from a child losing them on another.

Take mathematics. Criterion A, knowing and understanding, is routine procedure under time pressure. Criterion B, investigating patterns, asks the student to find a rule, test it, justify it and generalise it. Criterion C, communicating, marks whether the working is laid out so a reader can follow it. Criterion D asks for mathematics applied to a real context with a reflection on how well the model fits. A student can be fluent and still lose a third of the available marks on B and D, and no amount of extra practice on procedure touches that.

The same split runs through every subject group. Sciences hides its marks in inquiring and designing and in processing and evaluating, which are investigation skills rather than content. Language and Literature loses them in analysing, where plot summary gets written instead of comment on the writer's choices. Design loses them in the written design cycle, where students who build a good artefact document it badly. The table below sets the criterion names out by subject group so you can match a report line to a teachable skill.

What this means in cash terms is simple. Six sessions aimed at one criterion, with the student's own marked work in front of both of them, costs around AED 1,200 to AED 1,800 at the qualified-tutor band and moves a reported mark. A year of general subject support at the same rate costs AED 7,000 or more and often moves the same mark by the same amount. Ask any prospective tutor which criterion they intend to work on in the first three lessons. A tutor who cannot answer has not read the report.

Three ways Emirates Living families overspend on the Middle Years Programme

  • MYP 1-3: qualified tutor band, AED 150-300 an hour, is almost always correct
  • MYP 5 and the DP1 bridge: specialist band, AED 200-450, earns its premium
  • Marked written work between lessons is worth more than another contact hour
  • One tutor per child per weak criterion, not one tutor per household

The first is paying Diploma rates for middle-school work. A tutor who teaches Higher Level Chemistry is not the right purchase for an MYP 2 science criterion, and charging AED 400 an hour for it is the market working exactly as intended. MYP 1 to MYP 3 is almost always a job for the AED 150 to AED 300 band, and often for the lower half of it. Save the specialist rate for MYP 5 and the bridge into DP1, where the teacher's Diploma experience is the thing you are actually buying.

The second is buying hours instead of feedback cycles. A student improves on a criterion by writing something, having it marked against the descriptor, and writing the next one differently. That cycle takes a week, not an hour, and a tutor who fills every session with new teaching never completes one. Two sessions a fortnight with marked work in between frequently beats one session a week with nothing in between, at two-thirds of the monthly cost. Ask how written work gets marked between lessons before you ask the hourly rate.

The third is the sibling discount trap. Emirates Living households often have two or three children in the same school, and a provider offering a household rate for all of them is selling convenience rather than teaching. Two children in different MYP years, with different weak criteria, in different subject groups, need two different tutors. A single tutor stretched across both usually ends up supervising homework for both, at the combined price of two subject specialists.

There is a fourth, smaller leak worth naming: paying through the long Dubai summer out of fear of losing the tutor. A pause is a scheduling conversation, not a cancellation, and a six-week gap in MYP 2 costs nothing measurable. The exception is the summer between MYP 5 and DP1, which is the one holiday where paid work changes the following year's outcome. Spend there and pause elsewhere.

04

MYP year by year: what is worth funding, and what is not yet

MYP 1 to MYP 3 are the cheap years and the ones where spending has the longest payback. Nothing external is at stake, which is exactly why a reading-fluency or extended-writing gap can be closed for a few hundred dirhams a month instead of several thousand later. The questions worth paying someone to answer here are narrow: can the child write four paragraphs to a structure, and is arithmetic automatic enough that MYP Extended mathematics will not be a struggle.

MYP 4 and MYP 5 change the stakes without changing the assessment style. Subject selection narrows, Extended and Standard mathematics streams separate, and the Personal Project arrives. This is where a Meadows family should be spending deliberately, because the MYP 5 record is what a Diploma conversation is based on and because the Personal Project is the first piece of genuinely self-managed work most students have met. It is also the year where the school's own position on eAssessment starts to matter to your budget.

The DP1 entry point is the expensive boundary. Marking changes from criterion descriptors to percentage-weighted papers, Theory of Knowledge and the Extended Essay appear, and six subjects run at once. Families who arrive without timed written practice spend the autumn of DP1 buying specialist hours at AED 270 and upwards. The table sets out, year by year, what is genuinely worth funding and what can safely wait, so the money lands where it compounds.

One caution across all five years. MYP grades are reported by the school, and schools differ in how strictly they apply the boundaries. A 6 at one Dubai school is not automatically a 6 at the next one, and a tutor claiming to know your school's boundaries is guessing. The reliable signal is the criterion mark and the descriptor it was awarded against, which is published and which does not move between schools.

05

The Personal Project: a line item with a hard honesty limit

  • Confirm which edition of the MYP projects guide your child's cohort sits
  • Each project criterion is marked out of 8 against published descriptors
  • The process journal is assessed evidence, not a diary written afterwards
  • A tutor reads and questions the student's draft; the student writes every word

The Personal Project sits in MYP 5 and is the most commonly mishandled purchase in the whole programme. It is a self-directed piece of work with a school supervisor, assessed against the criteria in the current MYP projects guide - planning, applying skills and reflecting in the present edition - each marked out of 8, with the process journal as the evidence base. Confirm with the school's MYP coordinator which edition of the guide your child's cohort is assessed under, because the criterion set has been revised.

What a tutor may legitimately do here is coaching, and it is genuinely valuable. Questioning whether the goal is achievable in the time available. Checking that the journal records decisions as they happen rather than being reconstructed the week before submission. Reading what the student has written and saying where a criterion descriptor is not yet met. Rehearsing the reflection so it discusses what went wrong rather than listing what was done. That is six to ten hours of work, spread across the year, not a weekly slot.

What a tutor must never do is produce the thing. A tutor does not write the report, does not build the product, and does not draft the journal entries. IB academic honesty rules make authorship the student's responsibility, and a project that is not the student's own work is a malpractice matter for the student, not a service failure for the tutor. Any provider offering to hand over a finished Personal Project is selling a risk dressed as a shortcut, and the Dubai market contains providers who do exactly that.

On cost, the useful comparison is against a weekly slot. Ten coaching hours at the AED 200 to AED 300 band is AED 2,000 to AED 3,000 across a whole academic year. A weekly hour across the same year at the same rate is AED 7,000 or more. The coaching block is cheaper and better matched to how the project is actually assessed, because the marks are awarded at three points, not thirty-six.

06

eAssessment or a school-reported grade: the question that sets your budget

Not every MYP school enters its MYP 5 students for external assessment. The IB offers optional on-screen eAssessment and ePortfolio moderation at the end of MYP 5, leading to the IB MYP Certificate, and schools choose whether to run it. Some Dubai schools do; others report MYP grades internally and move students straight into DP1 or into an A Level programme. The answer changes what MYP 5 tutoring is for, so it is the first question to ask the school, before the first question you ask a tutor.

If the school runs eAssessment, MYP 5 has an external examination shape and the money should go into timed, on-screen written practice under conditions. If it does not, the MYP 5 grade is a school judgement and the real stake is the DP1 place and the Higher Level subject choices that follow. In that case the spend belongs in the bridge over the summer rather than in exam technique during the spring. Two genuinely different budgets follow from one administrative fact.

Ask the question precisely, because the answers are often vague. Does the school enter students for MYP eAssessment; if so, in which subject groups; and is the Personal Project submitted for IB moderation. The IB sets the conditions for the certificate itself, and the school's MYP coordinator is the only reliable source on what your child's cohort will actually sit. Nothing on this page should be treated as a statement about your particular school's practice.

There is a related question parents rarely ask and should. If the school does not run eAssessment, how does it decide its MYP grade boundaries, and will the DP1 subject recommendations be based on those grades. That is the decision a Meadows family is actually buying tutoring to influence in MYP 4 and 5. Knowing whether the gatekeeper is an external script marker or a departmental meeting tells you where the hours should go.

07

Twelve months before DP1: the cost in context from a Meadows villa

Tutoring is easier to judge next to the other numbers in a Dubai education budget. School fees are the large fixed cost and they are flat this year: KHDA confirmed on 22 May 2026 that private school fees in the emirate would not increase for 2026-27, under the second economic incentives package Dubai valued at AED 1.5 billion within a AED 2.5 billion total. The emirate also added seven new private schools for 2026-27 - four UK curriculum and three IB - creating 16,846 new places, after six opened in 2025-26 and enrolment rose 6 per cent.

Against that backdrop, one MYP subject at one online hour a week is a AED 600 to AED 1,200 monthly line. Two subjects doubles it. The Personal Project coaching block is a one-off of a few thousand dirhams spread across the year. The MYP 5 to DP1 summer bridge is the largest single discretionary item and the one with the clearest return. The table lays the whole twelve months out in dirhams, with the market in-home rate included for comparison rather than as an offer.

Two things are deliberately absent from that table. There is no IB Gram price list, because our quote depends on subject, level and the criterion involved, and it is given after a free trial lesson rather than before. And there is no VAT position, because the UAE treatment of tuition fees is a Federal Tax Authority question rather than ours to assert; ask any provider directly whether a quoted figure includes it and get the answer in writing.

The practical use of a table like this is to decide what to cut. Most Meadows families who overspend do so by running two or three subjects at once through the middle years, then having nothing left for the one summer where it counts. Running one subject at a time, on the weakest reported criterion, and banking the difference for the DP1 bridge, is the version of this budget that finishes the programme with money still in it.

Paying an MYP tutor lawfully in Dubai, and what to ask before you transfer money

  • Permit route: MoHRE smart app, website or e-services, under Resolution No. 710 of 2023
  • Free of charge, valid two years, two working days to issue
  • No published fine schedule exists; ignore any amount circulating online
  • A training institute with premises needs a separate KHDA permit - ask for the number

Private tutoring in the UAE is permitted and regulated. The private tuition work permit was introduced by Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023 and is issued through the Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation. It is granted free of charge for two years, and the eligible categories are wide: teachers registered in government or private schools, employees in the government and private sectors, unemployed individuals, school students aged 15 to 18, and university students. MoHRE's own service page is titled 'Issuance of a New Work Permit - Private Tutor Licensing' and lists a two-working-day completion time.

Two consequences follow for a Meadows household. Individuals offering private tutoring without a permit are subject to fines and penalties under the applicable laws - no schedule of amounts has been published, so treat any figure you see quoted as unverified. And because the permit is free and takes two days, a tutor who cannot discuss their permit position has chosen not to deal with it. Asking is reasonable, and the answer tells you something about how the rest of the arrangement will be run.

A second distinction matters. A tutoring operation with premises and staff in Dubai is a different legal entity from an individual tutor: it needs a KHDA Educational Services Permit for a training institute, with initial approval first and annual renewal. IB Gram is not a Dubai training institute and holds no KHDA permit, no ADEK registration and no IB or Cambridge accreditation, and any provider implying otherwise should be asked to produce the permit number. Naming a regulator is not the same as being endorsed by one.

In Abu Dhabi there is an extra rule worth knowing even from Dubai, because families move between emirates. ADEK's professional-ethics rules for private and charter school staff have been reported to bar teachers from paid private tutoring of students enrolled at their own school, and the MoHRE permit carries a code of conduct to similar effect. Verify the current wording against ADEK's own policy document before relying on it. The practical point stands either way: do not go looking for your child's own class teacher privately.

Starting from The Meadows, with the limits stated up front

The sequence is short. Tell us the school, the MYP year, the subject, and the criterion letters from the last report. We come back with a tutor who has taught that subject group at that level, a proposed focus for the first three lessons, and a rate. You take the free trial lesson in one subject, with no card details collected, and decide afterwards. Nothing is charged before that lesson and there is no package to commit to in order to get it.

Here is the limit. MYP-specific tutors are scarcer than IGCSE ones everywhere, including Dubai, because the programme is a small share of the market - the IB accounts for about 7 per cent of Dubai private school enrolment against 37 per cent for UK curricula. For a mainstream MYP subject group we can usually match within a few days. For a narrow combination - Language Acquisition at a specific phase, Design at MYP 5, Music - it can take longer, and the tutor may be based outside the UAE and teaching into Gulf Standard Time. We say which before you book, not after.

Scheduling is the other thing to settle early. A Meadows child home at 16:10 from Emirates International School Meadows can hold a 16:30 slot; one travelling back from Al Barsha South or Motor City usually cannot start before 17:00. Pick the slot that survives a bad traffic week rather than the one that works on a good one, because a session that gets moved three times stops being weekly and stops working. Sessions can shift later during Ramadan, including post-iftar slots.

If the honest answer is that tutoring is not what your child needs yet, we will say that too. An MYP 1 student with a 4 on criterion C in two subjects usually needs a writing structure taught once, not a year of weekly hours. That conversation costs nothing and it is the cheapest thing on this page.

Where we tutor

Where we teach around The Meadows

Emirates Living is a cluster of villa communities that share schools, buses and a single evening traffic pattern. These are the areas where a Meadows tutoring timetable is set, and what is specific about each.

Meadows 4 and 5

Closest to the Emirates International School Meadows gate, so these households get the earliest realistic start time - a 16:15 session is achievable on a walk-home day rather than a bus day.

Meadows 6

Further in from Sheikh Zayed Road, with a longer internal bus loop. Families here routinely report the child through the door 20 minutes later than Meadows 4, which is why a 16:30 slot holds better than a 16:00 one.

Meadows 8 and 9

Backs onto the Al Barsha South side, so a fair number of these children attend schools in Al Barsha rather than inside Emirates Living. Different finish bells, different session window.

The Springs

Townhouse stock, so younger sibling sets and more MYP 1-3 demand than MYP 5. Shared bus routes with The Meadows mean two children from different communities often need the same 17:00 hour.

Emirates Hills

Feeds Dubai International Academy Emirates Hills and Dubai British School Emirates Hills. The IB continuum demand here skews toward MYP 4-5 bridging into the Diploma.

The Views

Apartment living beside Emirates Golf Club, closer to the Marina school corridor. Commutes are shorter but the day often ends with an activity, so later slots dominate.

Al Barsha South

Home to several of the schools Meadows children actually attend, including Nord Anglia International School Dubai and Safa Community School. The reverse commute at 15:30 is what makes a 16:00 in-home visit unrealistic.

Jumeirah Park

Villa community on the other side of the motorway with a similar MYP-to-IGCSE split and the same shortage of MYP-specific subject tutors locally.

School ecosystem

IB and Cambridge school communities we support in The Meadows

Inside Emirates Living and Emirates Hills

The schools a Meadows child can reach without crossing Sheikh Zayed Road, and the only cluster where the IB continuum is available locally. Ask each one whether it enters MYP 5 students for eAssessment, because the answer differs school to school and changes what MYP 5 tutoring is for.

  • Emirates International School Meadows
  • Dubai International Academy Emirates Hills
  • Dubai British School Emirates Hills
  • Regent International School, The Greens

The Al Barsha and Al Sufouh corridor

Where a large share of Meadows secondary students actually study, mostly on the British route through IGCSE rather than MYP 4 and 5. Finish bells here land between 15:10 and 15:30, and the drive back into Emirates Living at that hour is the reason evening sessions start when they do.

  • Nord Anglia International School Dubai
  • Kings' School Al Barsha
  • Safa Community School
  • Dubai College, Al Sufouh
  • GEMS Wellington International School
  • American School of Dubai

The Motor City and Sports City belt

A secondary catchment for Meadows 8 and 9 households, reached down Al Khail Road. Useful to know about because a bus from this belt can put a child home after 16:45, which rules out the early session entirely on school days.

  • GEMS Metropole School Motor City
  • Victory Heights Primary School
  • Dubai Heights Academy
  • Arcadia School

Schools are named here as the local education context a Meadows family is choosing within; no affiliation, partnership or endorsement by any named school is implied.

How matching works

From first enquiry to a tutor who fits

  1. 01

Send the criterion marks, not a general worry

The useful first message names the school, the MYP year, the subject and the criterion letters from the most recent report. Criterion A: 6, criterion C: 3 tells a tutor more than a paragraph about confidence does, and it lets us match on the specific skill rather than on the subject label.

  2. 02

We match on subject group and level

A tutor who has taught that MYP subject group, at that year, and ideally into the Diploma beyond it. If the match needs a narrow specialism we say how long it will take and whether the tutor is UAE-based or teaching into Gulf Standard Time from elsewhere, before you commit anything.

  3. 03

Free trial lesson, one subject, no card

Sixty minutes with the student's own marked work open on screen. You are judging one thing: does the tutor identify the same weakness the report does, and can they explain how it gets fixed. No card details are collected to book it and there is no obligation afterwards.

  4. 04

Agree a focus and a review point

Before the second lesson we write down which criterion the next six sessions target and how you will know it moved. Marked written work between sessions is part of that plan, not an extra. The review happens at six sessions and the options include stopping.

  5. 05

    Reschedule rather than lose sessions

School trips, tournaments and travel are normal in Emirates Living. Sessions move; they are not forfeited. During Ramadan slots shift later, including after iftar, and over the long summer a pause is a scheduling decision rather than a cancellation of the arrangement.

Why families choose us

What UAE parents tell us matters most

The rates on this page have sources

Every AED figure here is attributed to the provider or rate study that published it, read in October 2026. Three of the six competitor pages researched in this market publish no price at all, and two quote in US dollars. A Meadows family can check our numbers against the original pages, which is the point of printing them.

Criterion-first, not subject-first

Tutoring is aimed at a named criterion from your child's own report, with a written focus agreed before the second lesson and a review at six. That is what makes a block of hours measurable. Subject-in-general tutoring is the most expensive way to buy a small improvement.

Online for a reason we can defend

Lessons run one-to-one over live video on Gulf Standard Time. IB Gram does not send tutors to homes anywhere in the UAE; that is an India-only service. What a Meadows family gets instead is a tutor chosen for teaching MYP Extended mathematics rather than for living near Emirates Living.

The honesty line is stated, not assumed

A tutor teaches, questions, reads drafts and gives feedback on work the student has written. No Personal Project, investigation or coursework is produced for a student under any arrangement. Providers in this market do sell completed assessed work; that is an IB malpractice trigger for the student, and we say so plainly.

Availability disclosed before you book

Where a niche MYP subject has no UAE-based specialist free, we say so and name the alternative, including when a tutor is based outside the UAE and teaching into your evening. No competitor page researched in this market discloses a coverage limit at all.

No regulator borrowed as a badge

KHDA, ADEK, SPEA, MoHRE and the Ministry of Education are named on this page to explain what each one governs. IB Gram holds no approval, accreditation or partnership from any of them, nor from the IB, Cambridge or Pearson, and claims none.

Questions parents ask

IB and IGCSE tutoring in The Meadows: your questions answered

How much does an IB MYP tutor in The Meadows cost per hour?+

Published Dubai market rates put a university-student tutor at roughly AED 45 to AED 150 an hour, a qualified subject tutor working online at AED 150 to AED 300, and an IB-experienced specialist at AED 200 to AED 450 or more. For most MYP work in The Meadows the middle band is the right purchase; the specialist band earns its premium only in MYP 5 and the bridge into DP1. Those figures come from other providers' own published pages and from Bestimate's 2026 Dubai rate table, read in October 2026. IB Gram quotes after a free trial lesson, against the specific subject and criterion involved.

Is MYP tutoring cheaper than IB Diploma tutoring in Dubai?+

Yes, and the gap is substantial. Diploma support sits at the specialist end of the Dubai market, where TutorChase publishes AED 270 an hour and Bestimate's exam-year band runs from AED 200 to AED 450 and above. Most MYP work is properly priced at AED 150 to AED 300. That price gap is the argument for spending in MYP 4 and MYP 5 rather than waiting: the same weakness costs less to fix before DP1 than after it. The exception is the summer bridge between MYP 5 and DP1, which needs a Diploma-experienced teacher and is priced accordingly.

My child's MYP report shows criterion letters instead of percentages. What am I actually paying a tutor to fix?+

One or two of those letters. Each MYP subject is graded against four criteria, A to D, each marked from 0 to 8 against published descriptors, and the four combine into a grade from 1 to 7. A student scoring 6 on criterion A and 3 on criterion C has a presentation and communication problem, not a knowledge problem, and the lessons that fix those two things look nothing alike. Send the criterion marks when you enquire. A tutor who agrees a focus of criterion C before the second lesson is doing the job; one who proposes general subject revision has not read the report.

Should we start MYP tutoring in Year 7 or wait until MYP 4?+

Start early only for a specific, named gap. In MYP 1 to MYP 3 the two things worth paying to fix are extended writing structure and arithmetic fluency, because both are assumed later and both are cheap to teach now at the AED 150 to AED 300 band. Waiting until MYP 4 to address either means buying the same repair in a year where subject selection and the Personal Project are already competing for the same hours. What is not worth buying in MYP 1 is subject-specialist teaching, which has nothing external to prepare for yet.

What is a realistic monthly tutoring budget for one MYP subject in Emirates Living?+

For one weekly online hour with a qualified subject tutor, AED 600 to AED 1,200 a month is the band the Dubai market quotes, with Bestimate placing budget tutors at AED 240 to AED 600 and exam-year specialists at AED 1,000 to AED 2,000 or more. Advertised monthly packages in this market include roughly AED 799 for eight online sessions and AED 1,599 to AED 1,799 for four two-hour home visits. Compare any package against the hourly rate before signing, and check whether unused sessions expire, because that is where the real cost of a package usually hides.

Does my child's school run MYP eAssessment, and does the answer change what we should spend?+

It changes it significantly, and only the school can tell you. The IB offers optional on-screen eAssessment and ePortfolio moderation at the end of MYP 5 leading to the IB MYP Certificate, and each school decides whether to enter students. If yours does, MYP 5 has an examination shape and money belongs in timed written practice under conditions. If it does not, the MYP 5 grade is a school judgement and the real stake is the DP1 place, so the spend belongs in the summer bridge instead. Ask the MYP coordinator which subject groups are entered, if any.

Can one tutor cover MYP mathematics and MYP sciences for the same child?+

Sometimes, and it is worth asking, but it is not usually the saving it looks like. A teacher with a physics or engineering background often covers both credibly at MYP level. The question to ask is which criteria are weak in each subject: if it is investigating patterns in mathematics and inquiring and designing in sciences, those are related investigation skills and one tutor is efficient. If the weaknesses are communicating in one and content knowledge in the other, you are asking one person to run two unrelated programmes in alternating weeks, which tends to produce homework supervision.

How much should Personal Project support cost, and what may a tutor actually do?+

Six to ten hours spread across MYP 5 is the realistic shape, which is roughly AED 2,000 to AED 3,000 at the mid band rather than a weekly slot costing several times that. A tutor may question whether the goal fits the time available, check that the process journal records decisions as they happen, read drafts the student has written and say where a criterion descriptor is not yet met. A tutor must never write the report, build the product or draft journal entries. The project has to be the student's own work, and IB honesty rules make that the student's exposure.

Why do some Dubai providers quote MYP lessons in 45-minute blocks?+

Partly because younger students concentrate better in shorter sessions, and partly because it makes an hourly rate look smaller. Compare on cost per month rather than per session: four 45-minute slots at AED 200 is AED 600 a month for three hours of teaching, while four 60-minute slots at AED 225 is AED 900 for four. For MYP 1 to MYP 3 a 45-minute lesson is often genuinely better. For MYP 5 timed writing it is too short to complete a piece and mark it. Ask what the rate is per hour and decide the length separately.

Is it worth paying for an MYP tutor when there is no external exam at the end?+

It depends entirely on what the MYP 5 grade is used for at your school, which is why the eAssessment question comes first. Where there is no external assessment, the MYP record still drives Diploma subject recommendations and Higher Level permissions, and those decisions shape the next two years. The case for spending is strongest in MYP 4 and MYP 5 for that reason. The case is weakest in MYP 1 and MYP 2 unless there is a named gap, and a provider pushing weekly hours in Year 7 without naming one is selling a subscription.

What does the bridge from MYP 5 into DP1 cost across a summer?+

At the specialist band of AED 200 to AED 450 an hour, a six to eight week bridge of one or two subjects runs into a few thousand dirhams, and it is the MYP-adjacent spend with the clearest return. What it buys is the jump the MYP does not prepare students for: percentage-weighted papers, timed writing marked against Diploma criteria, and the algebraic fluency Analysis and Approaches at Higher Level assumes from week one. Because lessons are over live video, the bridge continues while the family travels, which matters in a Dubai summer when most households leave.

Do MYP tutors working with Dubai families need a MoHRE permit, and is there a fee?+

Individuals providing private tuition in the UAE need the private tuition work permit introduced by Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023 and issued through the Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation. It is granted free of charge for two years, with a stated two-working-day completion time, and the eligible categories include registered school teachers, government and private sector employees, unemployed residents, university students and school students aged 15 to 18. Tutoring without a permit attracts fines and penalties under the applicable laws; no schedule of amounts has been published, so treat quoted figures as unverified.

Will Arabic and Islamic Education still be on my child's timetable alongside the MYP?+

Yes. Arabic, Islamic Education and Social or Moral Studies are mandatory in all Dubai private schools regardless of the licensed international curriculum, and KHDA required its current arrangements to be in place from the start of the 2025-26 academic year. KHDA also requires separate classes for Arabs and non-Arabs in Arabic as a first language, Islamic Education and Social Studies, and states that combined classes for both groups are prohibited. Instructional time is calculated on a 40-minute lesson unit. Tutoring in these subjects must follow the Ministry-set content, since additional material needs prior Ministry permission.

Which schools near The Meadows run the MYP rather than a British Key Stage 3?+

Inside Emirates Living the IB continuum option is Emirates International School Meadows, with Dubai International Academy Emirates Hills the other nearby IB school a Meadows family commonly considers. Dubai British School Emirates Hills and Regent International School in The Greens run the British route, as do most of the Al Barsha and Al Sufouh schools Meadows children travel to. The IB accounts for about 7 per cent of Dubai private school enrolment against 37 per cent for UK curricula, which is why MYP-specific tutors are scarcer locally than IGCSE ones. Named schools here are context, not partners.

Halfway through a term, how do I tell whether the tutoring money is working?+

By looking at a criterion mark, not at a mood. Agree before the second lesson which criterion the next six sessions target, then compare the mark awarded on that criterion in the next piece of marked school work. If it has not moved after six sessions, the diagnosis was wrong, the format is wrong, or the tutor is wrong, and all three are fixable. Session notes after each lesson should name what moved and what did not. A provider who reports only that your child is more confident is not giving you anything you can check.

Send the school, the MYP year, the subject and the criterion letters from the last report, and we will come back with a tutor who has taught that subject group, a focus for the first three lessons, and a rate. The trial lesson is free, covers one subject, and takes no card details, so you can judge the teaching against the market rates printed above before anything is spent. Lessons are one-to-one over live video on Gulf Standard Time, scheduled after the Emirates Living school run.
