IGCSE Science Tutor in The Meadows

An IGCSE science tutor in The Meadows is usually wanted for one specific reason: the school day ends at about three, the villa is ten minutes away, and the two hours before dinner are the only hours left in which physics, chemistry and biology can be repaired. IB Gram teaches those hours live over video, one child and one specialist, timed to Gulf Standard Time. No tutor drives to Meadows 4. The trade is travel time swapped for a tutor who teaches the exact syllabus code on your child's statement of entry.

  • Live one-to-one video lessons, scheduled in Gulf Standard Time
  • Tutors matched to the syllabus code on your child's entry form
  • One free trial lesson per family, no card details taken
  • Independent tutor-matching platform with no Dubai school affiliation

IB & IGCSE in The Meadows

The science grade is decided in the ninety minutes after the school run

The Meadows is nine villa sub-communities inside Emirates Living, bounded by Sheikh Zayed Road on one side and Al Khail Road on the other. Almost no child here walks to school. Emirates International School Meadows sits inside the community, and everyone else drives out to Al Sufouh, Al Barsha, Al Safa, Emirates Hills or Motor City in the morning and back again at half past three. That daily shape, not the syllabus, is what decides whether science tuition works for a family in Meadows 3 or Meadows 8.

Most British-curriculum secondary timetables in this part of Dubai finish between 15:00 and 15:30, and many run activities until roughly 16:30. Check your own child's timetable rather than an average, because the difference between a 15:05 and a 15:35 bell is the difference between a session that starts at five and one that starts at six. By the time a Year 11 student has been collected from Al Barsha, eaten something and found their folder, the usable science window in a Meadows household runs from about 17:00 to 18:30 on a weekday, with a second, shorter slot after 19:30 that is good for reviewing marked work and poor for new theory.

A tutor who drives loses that window twice over. The same Al Khail Road traffic that carried your child home carries the tutor in, then carries them out again before the next appointment, and the family pays for both journeys in the hourly rate. Market rates for in-home visits in Dubai run roughly AED 180 to AED 500 an hour depending on level and travel, against roughly AED 150 to AED 300 for a qualified subject tutor working online, on the figures published by Bestimate's Dubai tutoring cost table and by agencies including Unitors and EdFlik. The gap is largely the car.

The second thing the school run decides is which tutor is even possible. A radius of twenty minutes around Emirates Living contains a certain number of people who can teach science. It does not reliably contain someone who has taught Cambridge 0654 Paper 4 for eight years and can tell you, from the way your child writes a conclusion, whether the marks are being lost on command terms or on significant figures. Teaching over live video removes the radius from the equation, and that is the whole of the argument for it.

What follows is written for that household: which science route your child is actually sitting, where each paper's marks sit, when a session realistically fits around a Meadows weekday, and what the entry deadlines look like counted backwards from the exam. IB Gram does not send a tutor to a UAE address; home visits are a service we run only in India. Everything here is delivered as one-to-one tuition over live video, with the first lesson free so you can judge the tutor before you commit a term to them.

At a glance

  • Nine Meadows sub-communities, one school inside the gates and six school corridors out of them
  • Usable weekday science window in most Meadows villas: roughly 17:00 to 18:30
  • Cambridge Extended science: Paper 2 is 30% of the grade, Paper 4 is 50%, the practical component 20%
  • Co-ordinated Sciences 0654 produces two IGCSE grades from one entry; three separate codes produce three
  • Final entries are set months before the exam - the Pearson November 2026 window ran to 19 November 2026 and its entries closed long before it opened
  • Lessons are online, one-to-one, and timed to your child's own finish time rather than a school average

Science at IGCSE is not one qualification. Four routes run through schools near The Meadows, and the tutoring that helps a 0654 candidate is not the tutoring that helps someone sitting three separate codes. Match the route first.

Cambridge IGCSE Sciences

Biology 0610, Chemistry 0620, Physics 0625, Co-ordinated Sciences 0654 and Combined Science 0653. Extended candidates sit Paper 2, Paper 4 and either the Paper 5 practical test or the Paper 6 alternative to practical. Core candidates sit Papers 1, 3 and 5 or 6, with a grade ceiling at C. The route and tier appear on the statement of entry, which is the document a tutor should see before the first lesson.

Cambridge runs a June and a November series, plus Checkpoint tests in March, May and October. Every exam centre is allocated to one of six administrative zones, and Cambridge states that it cannot accept responsibility for candidates who miss an exam because the wrong zone timetable was used. Dubai schools sit the zone timetable their centre is assigned, so the official timetable PDF matters more than any date a tutor quotes from memory.

Pearson Edexcel International GCSE Science

Biology 4BI1, Chemistry 4CH1, Physics 4PH1 and Science (Double Award) 4SD0. Practical skills are assessed inside the written papers rather than in a separate practical exam, which changes revision completely: there is no apparatus list to rehearse, but experimental method questions are embedded in papers that also carry theory and calculation. Students who moved from Cambridge mid-course often revise for a practical paper that does not exist on their entry.

Pearson offers International GCSE in May/June and November each year. The November 2026 final timetable ran from late October to 19 November 2026, June 2026 results reached centres on 19 August 2026 and students on 20 August 2026, and November 2025 results reached students on 22 January 2026. Pearson publishes provisional timetables ahead of each series and revises them, so the live PDF on qualifications.pearson.com is the only version worth planning around.

Y9Ages 13-14 · Year 9

Year 9 pre-IGCSE science

The year the route is chosen. A Year 9 student who is comfortable rearranging equations and reading a results table will cope with three separate sciences; one who is not will carry that gap through two years of Paper 4 calculations. Work in this year is about arithmetic fluency, unit handling and writing a conclusion that answers the question asked, rather than coverage of IGCSE content a term early.

Option forms in Dubai British-curriculum schools usually go out in the second term of Year 9, and the science decision is frequently made by the timetable rather than the family. Ask the head of science whether the school allows a move from Co-ordinated Sciences to three separate codes after the options deadline, and whether that move is possible in Year 11 at all. The answer varies school by school across Al Barsha and Al Sufouh.

DP/ALAges 16-19 · Years 12-13

IGCSE science into IB Diploma or A Level

The exit route changes what a Year 11 grade needs to be. Higher Level Chemistry and A Level Physics both assume fluency with material that IGCSE treats lightly: moles beyond simple ratio, logarithms, and graph gradients read as physical quantities. A student who scrapes a 6 in 0654 and then takes Higher Level Biology spends the first Diploma term closing a gap that could have been closed in Year 11.

Schools around The Meadows split both ways at 16. Emirates International School Meadows runs the IB continuum through to the Diploma; Dubai British School Emirates Hills, Dubai College and Jumeirah College run A Levels; several families move from one campus to another at that point. KHDA has confirmed seven new private schools for the 2026-27 intake - four UK curriculum and three International Baccalaureate - adding 16,846 places, so the sixth-form market around Emirates Living is still shifting.

Subject coverage

IB and IGCSE subjects we tutor

Science tutoring is specific to a code and a tier. These are the entries that actually appear on statements of entry at schools serving The Meadows, with what each one assesses and where the marks tend to go missing.

Cambridge IGCSE Biology 0610

Core and Extended

Extended candidates sit Paper 2, Paper 4 and Paper 5 or 6. Marks concentrate in the long structured questions on transport in plants, homeostasis and inheritance. The commonest avoidable loss is a Punnett square drawn correctly and then explained without naming the genotypes, which earns the diagram mark and loses the explanation marks.

Cambridge IGCSE Chemistry 0620

Core and Extended

Moles, electrolysis and organic chemistry carry the Extended paper. Students who can balance an equation but cannot convert between mass, moles and concentration lose Paper 4 marks in clusters rather than singly, because the later parts of a question depend on the answer to the earlier parts. Rate-of-reaction graph interpretation is the second recurring gap.

Cambridge IGCSE Physics 0625

Core and Extended

Electricity is where most students lose ground: series and parallel circuits, potential dividers, and the difference between what an ammeter and a voltmeter are measuring. Thermal physics questions ask for particle-level explanations and get answers written in terms of heat moving around, which the mark scheme does not credit.

Cambridge IGCSE Co-ordinated Sciences 0654

Double Award, Core and Extended

Two IGCSE grades from a single entry, which makes it the default on most British-curriculum timetables in Dubai. The Extended Paper 4 runs two hours and covers all three sciences in one sitting, so pacing is a skill in its own right: students who spend thirty minutes on the biology section arrive at physics with too little time to finish.

Cambridge IGCSE Combined Science 0653

Single Award, Core and Extended

One grade covering all three sciences, usually chosen when a student carries a heavy language or humanities load. The content is narrower than 0654, which helps, but universities and sixth forms read a single award differently from a double award, so the route choice should be checked against what the student intends to study at 16.

Pearson Edexcel Biology 4BI1

Paper 1 and Paper 2

Paper 1 carries the bulk of the marks and the longer questions; Paper 2 is shorter and heavier on the sections Cambridge spreads across its papers. Practical method questions appear inside both papers rather than in a standalone practical exam, so revision has to include apparatus and variables even though no lab exam exists on this specification.

Pearson Edexcel Chemistry 4CH1

Paper 1 and Paper 2

Calculation style differs enough from Cambridge that a mid-course transfer notices it. Edexcel asks for more multi-step quantitative work in a single question part, and marks are tied to showing the route rather than the final figure. Students who were trained to write only the answer lose method marks they would have kept on 0620.

Pearson Edexcel Physics 4PH1

Paper 1 and Paper 2

Equation recall matters more here than on some specifications, because the formula sheet does not cover everything the papers ask for. Waves, radioactivity and electrical circuits reward students who can write the equation, substitute with units, and state the unit of the answer. The last of those three is the step most often skipped.

Pearson Edexcel Science (Double Award) 4SD0

Six papers across three sciences

Six shorter papers rather than two long ones, which suits students who lose accuracy over a two-hour sitting. Each science contributes two papers, and the double award produces two grades. Schools sometimes run this alongside a separate single science, so a tutor needs the full entry list to know which content is examined where.

Cambridge IGCSE Mathematics 0580

Core and Extended

Listed here because it is the single strongest predictor of a science grade. Rearranging formulae, standard form, percentage change and reading gradients off a graph are maths skills examined inside science papers. A student losing physics marks on calculation is often losing maths marks in a physics costume, and the fix belongs in a maths lesson.

How sessions run

Tutoring formats built around UAE school timetables

Three formats cover almost every IGCSE science request from Emirates Living. Each one is built around the clock described above rather than around a package length.

Weekly subject session, one fixed slot

Sixty minutes a week per science, in the same slot every week for the whole term. The fixed slot matters more than the length: a session that moves around the week is the one a Year 11 student starts skipping in November. One topic, one set of past-paper questions, and the marked work from last week reviewed at the start.

  • Best booked at 17:00 or 17:30 on a weekday
  • One science per slot - three sciences means three slots
  • Homework is a timed question set, not a worksheet
  • Progress measured against mark schemes, not effort

Paper-by-paper exam block

Used in the eight to ten weeks before a series. The block works through one paper at a time rather than one topic at a time: Paper 2 technique, then Paper 4 structured questions, then the practical component. Weekend slots are used here because they are the only ones long enough for a full timed paper followed by a review of it.

  • Two sessions a week, one of them on a weekend
  • Full papers sat under timed conditions
  • Marking done against the official mark scheme wording
  • Revision narrowed to the four weakest topics by week three

Practical component clinic, Paper 5 or Paper 6

The 20% most families leave until last. Sessions cover apparatus, method description, variables, table design, significant figures and graph plotting - all of which are examined in writing and can therefore be taught in full over video. The actual lab work stays where it belongs, in the school's own laboratory under the school's supervision.

  • Separate treatment for Paper 5 and Paper 6 candidates
  • Method questions rehearsed in mark-scheme language
  • Graph and table conventions drilled until automatic
  • Edexcel candidates covered too, where practical skills sit inside written papers

What IB and IGCSE study actually looks like in The Meadows

01

Find out which science route your child is actually sitting

Four separate things get called "IGCSE science" by parents in Dubai, and they are not interchangeable. Three separate sciences produce three grades. Co-ordinated Sciences produces two from a single entry. Combined Science produces one. The Pearson Edexcel versions sit different papers again, with no standalone practical exam. A tutor who starts work without knowing which of these your child is entered for will spend the first three lessons teaching content that may not be examined.

The document that settles it is the statement of entry, which the school issues before each series. It carries the syllabus code, the tier and the components. If it has not arrived yet, the school's exams officer can confirm the code, and the head of science can confirm the tier. Those two facts are worth more to a tutor than any amount of description of how your child is finding the subject.

Tier matters as much as route. Cambridge Core papers cap the available grade at C, so a student who is capable of a B and has been entered for Core cannot reach it however well they prepare. Moving between tiers has a deadline, and that deadline sits with the entry rather than with the exam. A Year 11 parent asking in January whether a move is still possible is often asking after the window has shut.

The table below sets out the routes as the specifications define them. Confirm your child's own code against the statement of entry before using any of it to plan, because schools near The Meadows run several of these in the same year group and change the mix between cohorts.

A Meadows weekday, bell to screen

Tuition fails on logistics far more often than on teaching. The usual version of that failure in Emirates Living is a session booked at 16:00 in September, when the afternoon is still quiet, which collides with swimming in October and is quietly abandoned by November. The fix is to build the slot around the one thing that does not move, which is the school bell, and then leave room for the drive.

Finish times vary by school and by year group. Most British secondary timetables in the Al Barsha and Al Sufouh corridor end between 15:00 and 15:30, with activities running to roughly 16:30, and the IB campus inside Emirates Living runs its own pattern. Use your own child's timetable. The point of the clock below is not the exact minute but the shape: pick-up and travel consume the first hour after school, and the hour after that is the best teaching hour of the day.

The second window, after 19:30, is not a substitute for the first. It is good for a different job. Reviewing a marked past-paper question, going through where the method marks went, rehearsing a Paper 6 method description - these work late. Learning electrolysis from a standing start at eight in the evening does not, and a tutor who agrees to try is agreeing to waste your money.

Friday and the weekend are the only slots long enough for a full timed paper plus a review of it. Families who are serious about the final eight weeks before a series put one weekend session in the diary from the start of the term rather than adding it in panic in April.

Where the grade actually sits, component by component

Parents usually know their child's predicted grade and rarely know how that grade is assembled. On the Cambridge Extended route the written theory paper carries half the marks on its own, the multiple-choice paper carries almost a third, and the practical component carries a fifth. Revision time that is split evenly across those three is split wrongly.

The multiple-choice paper is where the cheapest marks in IGCSE science are won and lost. Forty items, forty-five minutes, no method marks and no credit for partial understanding. The distractors are written from the misconceptions examiners see most often, which means a student who half-knows a topic will be pulled towards the wrong answer by design. Practising it as a timed drill, with every wrong answer traced back to the misconception behind it, moves marks faster than almost anything else available.

The theory paper rewards something different: reading the command term and answering the question that was asked. "Explain" answered as "describe" earns nothing, however accurate the description. "Suggest" invites an answer from outside the taught content and students leave it blank because they are waiting to recall something. Teaching the vocabulary of the mark scheme is teaching the subject, not a trick.

The practical component is 20% that is examinable entirely in writing. Significant figures, units in table headings, the difference between a controlled variable and a control experiment, plotting a line of best fit rather than joining the dots - all of it is written work, all of it is drillable, and most of it is left until the last fortnight.

The entry deadline sits months before the exam

Of everything a Year 10 or Year 11 family gets wrong about IGCSE, the timeline is the most expensive and the least discussed. Competitor pages in this market name no session, no entry deadline and no results date at all. The entry is made months before the paper is sat, and the decisions locked in at entry - route, tier, which sciences - are the decisions that set the ceiling on the grade.

Pearson gives the cleanest worked example, because its International GCSE windows are published as dates a parent can check: the November 2026 final timetable ran from late October to 19 November 2026, June 2026 results reached centres on 19 August 2026 and students on 20 August 2026, and November 2025 results reached students on 22 January 2026. Entries for each of those windows closed months ahead of the first paper. Cambridge has the same shape across the two series a Meadows candidate can sit, June and November, with the June entry made in the spring and results in August -- the February and March series belongs to India and should be ignored here. The lesson is the same either way: the fork in the road is in the autumn term, not in the exam season, and the exact deadline comes from your school's exams officer rather than from a page like this one.

Pearson's calendar runs on the same logic. International GCSE is offered in May/June and November; the November 2026 final timetable ran from late October to 19 November 2026; June 2026 results reached centres on 19 August 2026 and students the following day; November 2025 results reached students on 22 January 2026. Pearson publishes provisional timetables in advance and revises them, so plan against the live PDF rather than a remembered date.

Two practical consequences for a Meadows household. First, ask the exams officer in October which series your child is entered for and confirm the tier at the same time. Second, if tuition is going to happen at all, it is worth more in the term before the entry closes than in the fortnight before the paper, because in the earlier term the route is still a choice.

Where IGCSE science marks are actually lost, topic by topic

  • Chemistry: mole conversions, and multi-part questions collapsing after one wrong figure
  • Physics: circuits, potential dividers, and which instrument measures what
  • Biology: explanations that describe a diagram without naming the structures
  • All three: significant figures, units in table headings, lines of best fit
  • All three: "explain" answered as "describe", and "suggest" left blank

A diagnostic lesson is worth more than a syllabus walkthrough, because the losses in IGCSE science are concentrated and predictable. Across Cambridge and Edexcel alike, the same half-dozen places account for most of the gap between a 6 and an 8. Naming them is how a tutor earns the second lesson.

In chemistry the gap is almost always quantitative. A student who can balance an equation but cannot move between mass, moles and concentration loses marks in clusters, because later parts of a structured question are built on the answer to the earlier part. One wrong conversion in part (b) costs parts (c) and (d) as well. Rate-of-reaction graphs come second: reading a gradient as a rate, and explaining why the curve flattens, are two separate skills and students often have only the first.

In physics it is electricity, every year. Series and parallel circuits, where the current divides and where the voltage does, what a potential divider is for, and which instrument measures which quantity. Thermal physics is the other recurring loss, where the mark scheme wants a particle-level explanation and gets an answer about heat travelling around the room. In biology the losses sit in long-answer questions on transport, homeostasis and inheritance, where the diagram is right and the explanation never names the structures doing the work.

Two cross-cutting failures matter more than any topic. The first is maths dressed as science: standard form, rearranging a formula, percentage change. The second is command terms, which are the vocabulary the mark scheme is written in. Both are faster to fix than content, and both are invisible on a school report that says a child needs to revise more.

06

Teaching practical science when the tutor is on a screen

The honest question a Meadows parent asks about online science tuition is whether the practical side survives it. The answer depends on separating two different things: doing experiments, and being examined on them. Your child does the first at school, in the school's laboratory, under the school's supervision, and no tutor of any kind replaces that. The second is a written exam, and a written exam can be taught in full over video.

Paper 5 candidates sit a supervised practical and record readings live. What decides their marks is rarely the manipulation of apparatus: it is table design, significant figures, unit handling, scale choice, plotting, and reading a value off a line of best fit. Every one of those is a written convention, drillable with shared past papers on screen and a tutor watching the student's working as it is produced. Paper 6 candidates never touch apparatus in the exam at all - their paper is entirely about describing method, identifying variables and interpreting someone else's results.

Screen sharing turns out to help here rather than hinder. A tutor watching a student plot a graph in real time sees the moment the scale is chosen badly, which is the moment the marks are lost, and can stop it there. In a classroom of twenty-four that moment is invisible. Edexcel candidates, whose practical skills are assessed inside the written papers, are in the same position: the examinable material is all on paper.

What a tutor must not do is produce or complete any assessed work. Coursework, where a specification carries it, and any school-set investigation remain the student's own. A tutor teaches the method, reviews the student's own draft, and gives feedback on it. Anything beyond that is a malpractice risk for your child and a line IB Gram does not cross.

07

What families around Emirates Living pay, and the three ways the money is wasted

  • Ask for one diagnostic lesson before any package is discussed
  • Ask which syllabus code and tier the tutor has taught, and for how long
  • Ask what the hourly rate includes: marking, reports, cancellation terms
  • Ask what happens if the tutor-student match does not work after two lessons

Market rates for tutoring in Dubai are public if you go looking, and they vary by a factor of ten. Budget online tutoring, usually delivered by university students, advertises from roughly AED 45 to AED 150 an hour - EdFlik publishes from AED 45 to AED 65 and Tutopiya from roughly AED 33 to AED 52. A qualified subject tutor working online runs roughly AED 150 to AED 300, with Unitors listing IGCSE from AED 150. In-home visits, with travel priced in, run roughly AED 180 to AED 500. Specialist IB and IGCSE tutors run AED 200 to AED 450 and above, with TutorChase publishing AED 270 and premium named tutors advertised as high as AED 650. These are other people's published figures, quoted as the market, not as our price list.

The first way the money is wasted is paying a travel premium to get a smaller choice of tutor. A twenty-minute radius around Emirates Living is a real constraint on who can teach your child, and it is the constraint that produces a generalist teaching Paper 4 chemistry. The second is buying a long package before the tutor has taught a single lesson. Three sciences bought as a term block in September, with no diagnostic lesson, is how families end up paying for coverage of topics their child already has.

The third is the group class sold as one-to-one economics. Four students at a lower rate each is cheaper per hour and is not the same product: the whole value of one-to-one science is that the tutor watches this child's working and interrupts at the point the error happens. In a group the tutor is teaching a mean, and the mean is not your child.

Worth holding alongside all of this: KHDA confirmed on 22 May 2026 that private school fees in Dubai will not rise for 2026-27, under an economic incentives package valued at AED 1.5 billion. School costs are flat this year. That makes it a reasonable year to spend on the thing the school day does not cover, rather than a year to buy more hours than the household can actually sit through.

08

Starting from The Meadows, with the limits stated up front

Getting started is deliberately short. You tell us the syllabus code, the tier, the school and your child's actual finish time; we propose a tutor who teaches that code; the first lesson is free and is used as a diagnostic rather than a sales call; and if the match is wrong we change it. Nothing about that requires anyone to drive anywhere, which is why a 17:00 slot on a Tuesday is genuinely available rather than theoretically available.

The limits, stated plainly. IB Gram does not send a tutor to a UAE address, and home visits in Dubai are not something we sell - that service exists only in India. Every lesson here is one-to-one over live video. We hold no accreditation, licence or partnership from KHDA, the Ministry of Education, Cambridge or Pearson, and any page that implies otherwise about any provider is worth treating with suspicion. We are an independent tutor-matching platform, nothing more and nothing less.

On permits, the position in the UAE is clear and worth knowing before you hire anyone, including from a classified ad. Private tuition is regulated: Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023 introduced a private tutor work permit through MoHRE, granted free of charge for two years, and the eligible categories include registered school teachers, government and private-sector employees, unemployed residents, university students and school students aged 15 to 18. Individuals tutoring without a permit are subject to fines and penalties under the applicable laws, and no fine schedule has been published, so treat any specific figure you read with caution. The application route is MoHRE's own 'Issuance of a New Work Permit - Private Tutor Licensing' service.

Availability is finite and we say so. A tutor for Extended 0620 chemistry is usually matched within a few days. A niche request - a specific Edexcel double-award combination at short notice in exam season, say - sometimes is not, and when a UAE-based tutor is not free the alternative offered may be a specialist elsewhere in the world working to Gulf Standard Time. You will be told which before you book, not after.

Where we tutor

Which part of The Meadows your child is travelling home to

The Meadows runs as nine numbered sub-communities inside Emirates Living. The number matters less for the syllabus than for the clock: the gate you exit by decides the corridor you drive, and the corridor decides what time a session can start.

Meadows 1 and 2

Closest to the Emirates Hills side and the Montgomerie, with quick access to Dubai British School Emirates Hills and Dubai International Academy. Short runs in, which is why these households are the ones most likely to manage a 16:30 start.

Meadows 3 and 4

The central villa belt, with Emirates International School Meadows inside the community. Children here can finish school and be at a desk inside fifteen minutes, so an early session is realistic in a way it is not for families driving in from Al Sufouh.

Meadows 5

Backs onto the lakes towards The Lakes clusters. Families here commonly split children between an IB campus and a British one, which puts two different finish times and two different science routes in the same evening.

Meadows 6

Near the Al Khail Road side, which shortens the run to Al Barsha South and Motor City schools but lengthens it towards Al Safa. A 17:00 slot is the safe default rather than anything earlier.

Meadows 7

Larger plots towards the Sheikh Zayed Road end of Emirates Living. The afternoon exit here is the Umm Suqeim Road corridor, which is the one that decides whether a Year 11 student is at a desk by five or by half past.

Meadows 8 and 9

The newest end of the community, closest to The Springs and the Spring Souk. Several households here run two secondary children with staggered sessions on the same evening rather than one longer joint lesson.

The Lakes

Next door inside Emirates Living, sharing the same school corridors and the same bell times. Science tuition patterns are near-identical, which is why a tutor who knows the Meadows timetable needs no briefing for a Lakes household.

The Springs and The Views

Townhouse communities on either side, feeding Regent International School and the Al Barsha cluster. Younger siblings here are often in Year 9, making the science route decision the live question rather than exam technique.

School ecosystem

IB and Cambridge school communities we support in The Meadows

Inside Emirates Living and Emirates Hills

The schools reachable in under fifteen minutes from a Meadows villa. One IB continuum school sits inside the community itself; the rest run British curriculum with IGCSE at 16. Finish times across this group cluster between 15:00 and 15:30, which is what makes a 17:00 science session the practical default.

  • Emirates International School Meadows
  • Dubai British School Emirates Hills
  • Dubai International Academy Emirates Hills
  • Regent International School
  • Emirates International School Jumeirah

The Al Barsha, Al Sufouh and Al Safa corridor

The schools most Meadows families actually drive to, and the reason the afternoon window starts later than parents expect. These campuses run Cambridge and Edexcel IGCSE sciences, and several of them split option blocks so that Co-ordinated Sciences and three separate sciences are both available in the same year group.

  • GEMS Wellington International School
  • Kings' School Al Barsha
  • Nord Anglia International School Dubai
  • Dubai College
  • Jumeirah College
  • Repton School Al Barsha

The Al Barsha South, Motor City and Sports City belt

The longer run, usually twenty to thirty minutes outbound in the afternoon. Families driving this corridor are the ones for whom a tutor arriving in a car would be the slowest possible option, because the tutor would be sitting in the same traffic in the opposite direction.

  • Safa Community School
  • Dubai Heights Academy
  • GEMS Metropole School Motor City
  • Victory Heights Primary School
  • Arcadia School

Schools are named here as the local education context around The Meadows; IB Gram has no affiliation, partnership or endorsement from any of them.

How matching works

From first enquiry to a tutor who fits

  1. 01

    Send the statement of entry

The syllabus code and tier decide everything else. If the statement has not arrived, the school's exams officer can confirm the code and the head of science the tier. Those two lines of information save a tutor three lessons of guessing and save you the cost of them.

  2. 02

Tell us the real finish time

Not the school's published end of day, but the time your child is actually home in Meadows 5 with a folder open. That single number decides whether the weekly slot is 17:00 or 18:00, and a slot built on a guess is the slot that gets abandoned in November.

  3. 03

    Take the free diagnostic lesson

One lesson, free, one per family, no card details required. It is used to find where the marks are going - command terms, mole conversions, circuits, graph conventions - and ends with a written view of what the next six weeks should cover. You decide afterwards whether to continue.

  4. 04

Fix one weekly slot per science

One science per session, same time each week, for the term. Three sciences means three slots rather than one longer lesson covering all three thinly. Marked work from the previous week opens each session, which is what makes homework worth setting.

  5. 05

Switch to paper practice eight weeks out

The last stretch before a series moves from topics to papers: Paper 2 timing, Paper 4 structured questions, then the practical component. One weekend slot is added for full timed papers, because a weekday evening cannot hold a two-hour paper and a review of it.

Why families choose us

What UAE parents tell us matters most

The tutor matches the code, not the subject

Cambridge 0654 and Edexcel 4SD0 are both "double award science" and they examine differently. Matching on the code means the tutor already knows the paper structure, the mark scheme wording and where that specification punishes a weak method description.

No travel in the price, no radius on the choice

Market in-home rates in Dubai run roughly AED 180 to AED 500 an hour with travel priced in. Removing the drive removes both the premium and the twenty-minute radius that limits who can teach your child in the first place.

Built around the Emirates Living clock

Sessions are scheduled against your child's own bell time and the drive home, not against a template. The 17:00 to 18:30 window is the one that survives a full term, and a slot that survives is worth more than a slot that looked convenient in September.

The practical component is treated as 20%, not an afterthought

Paper 5 and Paper 6 are worth a fifth of the grade and are examined in writing. Table design, significant figures, variables and graph conventions are taught deliberately rather than left to the fortnight before the exam.

Clear lines on assessed work

Tutors teach, review and give feedback on the student's own work. No tutor here produces coursework, an investigation write-up or any assessed task. That line protects your child's entry, and it is the line the essay-selling end of this market crosses.

Limits disclosed before you book

Rates quoted on this page are other providers' published market figures with the source named. Availability gaps are stated rather than hidden, and we claim no regulator approval, no UAE office and no school partnership, because we hold none.

Questions parents ask

IB and IGCSE tutoring in The Meadows: your questions answered

Is my child sitting Co-ordinated Sciences 0654 or three separate IGCSE sciences?+

The statement of entry answers it, and the difference is large. Co-ordinated Sciences 0654 is one entry producing two IGCSE grades, with a two-hour Paper 4 covering biology, chemistry and physics in a single sitting. Three separate sciences means 0610, 0620 and 0625, three entries, three grades and three sets of papers. Combined Science 0653 produces one grade. Schools near The Meadows run more than one of these in the same year group, often split by option block, so a parent cannot infer it from what another family's child is doing. Ask the exams officer for the code and the tier together.

How do I find out which science syllabus code my child is entered for?+

Three sources, in order of reliability. The statement of entry, issued by the school before each series, lists the code, the tier and the components. The exams officer can confirm the same information at any point in the year, and usually faster. The head of science can confirm the tier and whether a move between Core and Extended is still possible. A textbook cover is not a reliable source, because schools sometimes teach from one publisher while entering candidates on a different specification. Send the code to any tutor before the first lesson.

Can an online tutor really help with Paper 5, the practical exam?+

Yes, for the part that carries the marks. Paper 5 candidates record readings live in a supervised practical, but marks are concentrated in written conventions: table headings with units, significant figures, scale choice, plotting, and reading values off a line of best fit. All of that is teachable over video with shared past papers, and a tutor watching the working as it happens catches a bad scale choice at the moment it is made. The experiments themselves stay at school, in the school's laboratory, under the school's supervision. No tutor of any format replaces school lab time.

What is Paper 6 and why does it carry twenty per cent of the grade?+

Paper 6 is the alternative to practical: a written paper in which candidates describe methods, identify variables, read results tables and interpret someone else's data without touching apparatus. It carries the same weight as the practical test it replaces, around a fifth of the Extended grade, which makes it the single most under-prepared component in IGCSE science. The commonest loss is a method description that never names the controlled variable, followed by graph work where the axes are chosen badly. It is entirely drillable, and it is usually left until the last fortnight.

My child finishes school at 3:15 in Al Sufouh. What time can a Meadows session start?+

Allow for the drive back into Emirates Living and the twenty minutes that follow it, and 17:00 is the realistic earliest start, with 17:30 safer if there is an activity on that day. The afternoon window between 17:00 and 18:30 is the best teaching hour available in most Meadows households: late enough that everyone is home, early enough that a Paper 4 calculation still lands. Sessions after 19:30 work well for reviewing marked work and badly for new content. Tell us the actual finish time rather than the school's published one, because they differ by year group.

Which schools do children in The Meadows usually attend for IGCSE science?+

Emirates International School Meadows sits inside the community and runs the IB continuum. For IGCSE, families drive out: Dubai British School Emirates Hills and Regent International School nearby, then the Al Barsha and Al Sufouh corridor with GEMS Wellington International School, Kings' School Al Barsha, Dubai College, Jumeirah College, Repton School Al Barsha and Nord Anglia International School Dubai. Further out sit Safa Community School, Dubai Heights Academy and GEMS Metropole Motor City. We have no affiliation with any of them; they are named as the local context that shapes bell times and option blocks.

Is there an IGCSE science tutor who will come to our villa in Meadows 7?+

Not through IB Gram. We do not send tutors to UAE addresses, and home visits in Dubai are not part of what we sell - that service runs only in India. The market for in-home visits does exist and advertises roughly AED 180 to AED 500 an hour with travel priced in, so the honest comparison is cost and choice: a drive-in tutor must live within about twenty minutes of Emirates Living, while an online specialist can be the person who has taught Extended 0620 for a decade. Our lessons are one-to-one over live video, first one free.

We are eight weeks from the exam and physics is the weak subject. What can still be done?+

A great deal, provided the work switches from topics to papers. Eight weeks allows roughly two sessions a week plus one weekend slot for full timed papers. Week one is diagnostic: a past Paper 4 marked against the official scheme to find whether the losses are circuits, calculation or command terms. Weeks two to six attack the four weakest topics with timed question sets. The last fortnight goes to Paper 2 timing drills and the practical component. Nobody can promise a particular grade from eight weeks, and any tutor who does should be treated with real scepticism.

Should my child move from Core to Extended science in Year 11?+

It depends on the arithmetic and the deadline. Cambridge Core caps the available grade at C, so a student capable of a B cannot reach it from a Core entry however hard they work. Extended demands fluency with rearranging formulae, standard form and multi-step calculation, which is where the decision actually turns. The move has to happen while the entry can still be amended, and that window closes with the entry deadline rather than the exam. Ask the head of science and the exams officer in the same conversation, and ask early in the autumn term.

Does Edexcel International GCSE science have a practical exam like Cambridge?+

No. On Pearson Edexcel specifications such as 4BI1, 4CH1, 4PH1 and the 4SD0 double award, practical skills are assessed inside the written papers rather than in a separate practical test or an alternative-to-practical paper. The consequence for revision is specific: there is no apparatus list to rehearse for its own paper, but experimental method and variables questions appear inside papers that also carry theory and calculation. Students who transferred from a Cambridge school mid-course sometimes revise for a practical paper that does not exist on their entry, which is wasted time.

What do IGCSE science lessons cost around Emirates Living?+

Published market figures rather than ours: budget online tutoring advertises from roughly AED 45 to AED 150 an hour, with EdFlik from AED 45 to AED 65 and Tutopiya from about AED 33 to AED 52. Qualified subject tutors online run roughly AED 150 to AED 300, Unitors listing IGCSE from AED 150. In-home visits run roughly AED 180 to AED 500 with travel included. IGCSE and IB specialists run AED 200 to AED 450 and above. For what IB Gram itself would charge for your child's code and tier, take the free trial lesson and ask on the call.

Can one tutor cover biology, chemistry and physics for the same child?+

Sometimes, and it is usually the wrong economy. A Co-ordinated Sciences candidate who is broadly fine but slipping can work well with one tutor who knows 0654 as a whole. A student losing marks on organic chemistry and on circuits needs two specialists, because the diagnosis in each case is subject-specific and deep. The compromise most Meadows families settle on is one tutor for the weakest science weekly, and a short block of sessions on the second weakest before the series. Three sciences taught thinly in one hour helps nobody.

Do private science tutors in Dubai need a permit from MoHRE?+

Yes. Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023 introduced the private tuition work permit, issued through MoHRE and granted free of charge for two years. Eligible applicants include teachers registered in government or private schools, government and private-sector employees, unemployed residents, university students, and school students aged 15 to 18. The application runs through MoHRE's 'Issuance of a New Work Permit - Private Tutor Licensing' service. Individuals tutoring without a permit are subject to fines and penalties under the applicable laws; no fine schedule has been published, so distrust any specific amount quoted to you.

Will five IGCSEs including sciences be enough for Ministry of Education equivalency?+

On the British track, the Ministry's requirement as reported is five accredited subjects in GCSE or IGCSE certificates at a grade no lower than E or grade 3, with Arabic and Islamic education not counted among those five, plus either one accredited subject at Advanced Level at grade E or better or two at Advanced Subsidiary Level at the same grade. One ranking competitor publishes a six-subject figure, which is wrong. Verify your child's own case against moe.gov.ae or the attestation authority directly. Equivalency is a process families complete themselves; IB Gram neither performs nor guarantees it.

Can a weekly science slot move later during Ramadan?+

Yes, and most Emirates Living families ask for it. School hours shorten during Ramadan, which frees the afternoon, and many households prefer to move a session to after iftar when the house has settled. Both directions work: an earlier slot in the shortened school day, or a later one in the evening. The thing worth protecting is the slot's consistency rather than its time, so we agree the Ramadan pattern in advance and revert to the usual slot afterwards. Exam-season sessions take priority if a series falls close by.

Start with the code, the tier and your child's actual finish time

Those three facts are enough to propose a tutor for an IGCSE science entry in The Meadows, and the first lesson costs nothing - one per family, no card details required. Lessons are one-to-one over live video, timed to Gulf Standard Time and built around the window between 17:00 and 18:30 that a Meadows weekday actually leaves open. We hold no regulator approval and no school affiliation, we do not send tutors to UAE addresses, and we will tell you before you book if nobody is free for the code you need. Send the statement of entry and we will tell you what the next six weeks should cover.
