IB Physics Tutor in The Meadows

Hiring an IB physics tutor in The Meadows is a timetable problem before it is a teaching problem. The school day ends between 2:45 and 3:20, the bus loop through nine sub-communities adds twenty to fifty minutes, and the Diploma asks for more physics hours than any school timetables. This page counts those hours honestly, names the campuses this neighbourhood feeds, and shows where in the week the deficit can actually be recovered. Lessons are one-to-one over live video on Gulf Standard Time; no tutor visits a UAE address.

IB & IGCSE in The Meadows

Count the hours before you buy any of them

Parents in The Meadows generally arrive at physics tutoring with a grade problem and discover a timetable problem. The sequence is familiar: a 4 appears on a Year 12 report in a subject the student chose and wanted, a tutor is sought, and the first three attempts at a weekly slot collapse because nobody worked out what time the child is actually home, awake and capable of concentrating. Two months pass. The grade has not moved and nothing has been taught, because the arrangement never survived contact with the week.

So this page starts with arithmetic rather than pedagogy. A Diploma physics course at Higher Level is commonly timetabled at four to six periods a week, which after registration, settling and the practical programme leaves rather less genuine teaching time than the number suggests. The course expects independent work on top of that: question practice, consolidation of five themes, and a scientific investigation worth twenty per cent of the final grade that is largely produced outside lesson time. The gap between what is timetabled and what the course needs is the space tutoring occupies, and it is worth measuring before paying for it.

Then there is the geography, which in this neighbourhood is unusually specific. Emirates Living is a gated villa community with no schools inside most of it and no tuition centres at all. The campuses its buses serve sit mainly along the Al Barsha and Al Sufouh corridor, with the IB schools split between Emirates Hills and the Barsha side. Day ends cluster between 2:45pm and 3:20pm. The internal bus loop through Meadows 1 to 9 adds twenty to fifty minutes depending on where in the loop your gate sits, so the honest earliest session time varies by street rather than by community.

Those two facts together explain why the online format is not a compromise here. A physics specialist at Higher Level is a scarce commodity in any city, and a family in Meadows 7 who insists the tutor drives to them has narrowed the pool to whoever is willing to spend ninety minutes in traffic for a sixty-minute lesson, then pay for the privilege in the rate. IB Gram does not operate that way: we do not send tutors to addresses anywhere in the UAE, because in-home visiting is a service our India operation runs. Lessons are one-to-one over live video, scheduled in Gulf Standard Time.

What follows is the detail. A week-by-week map of the windows that actually exist in a Meadows household, the hours budget for Diploma physics set against what schools timetable, the campuses this area feeds and what each one's day end does to a session, the component structure of the current physics course and where the marks sit, the scheduling of the scientific investigation across Year 12, the term-level arithmetic of driving to a tutor instead, and the boundary on what help an investigation written at home may receive.

IB programmes

Every IB programme stage, mapped to UAE school years

Physics appears under three different names along the route through a Dubai international school, and the support each one needs is genuinely different. These are the stages behind the enquiries that reach us from Emirates Living.

MYPAges 11-16 · Years 7-11

IB Middle Years Programme sciences

Integrated or discipline-based sciences assessed against four criteria rather than percentages, with physics content distributed through the years rather than taught as a separate subject in most schools. Criterion scores look reassuring and conceal the specific weakness that matters later: fluency in rearranging equations and in reading quantitative information off a graph.

Emirates International School Meadows and Dubai International Academy Emirates Hills both run MYP. For a family here the practical point is that a strong MYP science profile does not predict Diploma physics performance, because the Diploma asks for sustained mathematical work that MYP criteria do not specifically test. The gap becomes visible in the second term of Year 12.

DPAges 16-19 · Years 12-13

IB Diploma Programme Physics

Five themes from space, time and motion through the particulate nature of matter, wave behaviour, fields and nuclear and quantum physics, assessed by two written papers plus an internally assessed scientific investigation worth twenty per cent. Higher Level sits longer papers with additional content in each theme; the component weightings are the same at both levels.

The IB carried 7 per cent of Dubai private-school enrolment in 2024-25 and three further IB schools join the emirate's 2026-27 intake. Higher Level physics is the thinnest specialist supply in this subject anywhere in the market, which is the practical reason a family in The Meadows should not also be filtering tutors by drive time.

IGCSEAges 14-16 · Years 10-11

IGCSE and International GCSE Physics

Cambridge 0625 with its separate practical or alternative-to-practical paper, or Pearson 4PH1 which assesses practical skills inside the written papers. The usual feeder into Diploma physics for students in British-curriculum schools, and the point at which electricity and electromagnetism either become secure or stay permanently shaky.

Because most schools around Emirates Living run IGCSE rather than MYP, the majority of Diploma physics students locally arrive from 0625 or 4PH1. A strong IGCSE physics grade earned on scaffolded questions is a weaker predictor of Diploma success than parents expect, and the diagnostic signal is how the student handles an unfamiliar context.

AAges 16-18 · Years 12-13

A Level Physics

The alternative post-16 physics route in the British-curriculum schools nearby, with no internally assessed investigation carrying a fifth of the grade and a heavier emphasis on practical endorsement. Students choosing between it and Diploma physics are choosing between depth in three subjects and breadth across six with a substantial independent research component.

Families in this neighbourhood often hold the decision open into the spring of Year 11, and physics is frequently the subject that settles it. The useful input is diagnostic: a student who finds independent extended work difficult will find the Diploma investigation harder than the content, and that is worth knowing in March rather than in the following January.

Subject coverage

IB and IGCSE subjects we tutor

Physics is set out first by theme, because the current guide organises the course that way and a tutor who cannot name the themes has not read it. The subjects after it are the ones that share a week with physics in a Diploma timetable.

Theme A: Space, time and motion

Higher and Standard Level

Kinematics, forces, momentum, energy and, at Higher Level, rotational and relativistic extensions. The first theme taught and the one whose weaknesses propagate furthest: a student who cannot resolve vectors confidently here will struggle in fields and in circular motion later in the course.

Theme B: The particulate nature of matter

Higher and Standard Level

Thermal physics, the gas laws, current electricity and, at Higher Level, additional thermodynamic work. Circuit questions are where many students first lose marks in quantity, usually because potential difference and current are being reasoned about qualitatively rather than calculated.

Theme C: Wave behaviour

Higher and Standard Level

Simple harmonic motion, wave phenomena, superposition, standing waves and the Doppler effect, with extensions at Higher Level. The theme that most rewards careful diagram work: a correctly drawn wave with labelled amplitude and wavelength earns marks that a correct verbal description does not.

Theme D: Fields

Higher and Standard Level

Gravitational, electric and magnetic fields, potential, and electromagnetic induction. The theme Higher Level students most often name as the hardest, because the mathematics is unforgiving and the three field types invite confusion between formulae that look superficially similar.

Theme E: Nuclear and quantum physics

Higher and Standard Level

Radioactive decay, nuclear structure and energy, fission and fusion, and quantum phenomena with Higher Level extensions. Taught late in most schemes of work, which means it is frequently the least secure theme going into the final papers simply because it has had the fewest weeks.

Mathematics: Analysis and Approaches

Higher and Standard Level

The natural partner subject, and the one where sharing a tutor can genuinely save hours in a crowded week. Rearrangement, graph interpretation, logarithms and calculus all appear in physics questions, and a student weak in one subject is usually losing marks in both for the same reason.

Mathematics: Applications and Interpretation

Higher and Standard Level

A workable combination with physics, with a caveat worth stating early: the calculus and algebraic manipulation available in Analysis and Approaches support Higher Level physics more directly. Students pairing Applications and Interpretation with Physics Higher Level often need a short algebra block to keep pace.

Chemistry

Higher and Standard Level

Shares the scientific investigation structure and the data-analysis skills, so a tutor who understands one investigation understands the other. The content overlap is narrow, mostly energetics and atomic structure, so the saving from a shared tutor is real for the internal assessment and limited for the papers.

Computer Science

Higher and Standard Level

Pairs well with physics for students who think procedurally, and the internally assessed solution has a similar independent-project rhythm to the physics investigation. Both components slip for the same reason, which is that neither is timetabled, so a student taking both needs the week planned deliberately.

Design Technology

Higher and Standard Level

Shares mechanics and materials content with physics and a substantial internally assessed project. Students taking both are carrying two significant independent components alongside the Extended Essay, which is an hours problem rather than a difficulty problem and is best planned in Year 12.

The Extended Essay in physics

Core requirement

A 4,000-word independent research essay supervised by the school. Physics is a demanding choice because a question that can actually be investigated with available equipment is hard to frame. A tutor's contribution is process coaching and feedback on the student's own drafts, never research or writing.

Theory of Knowledge

Core requirement

Assessed by exhibition and essay, and the natural sciences are one of the areas of knowledge students write about. Support means explaining how the assessment instrument works and responding to the student's own argument, never supplying the argument or the examples.

How sessions run

Tutoring formats built around UAE school timetables

Each format below is one tutor to one student over live video, and each occupies a different slot in a week that is already full. Choosing the format is largely a scheduling decision, which is why it belongs on a page about the school run.

Evening weekday hour

One fixed session on a weekday evening, set against your sub-community's actual bus arrival rather than the school bell. For Meadows 1 to 4 that usually means somewhere between 4:30pm and 5:30pm; for Meadows 6 to 9 it means 6pm or later. The slot that is honest in September is the slot that still exists in March.

  • Fixed weekday evening, chosen around arrival time rather than finish time
  • Topic order follows the school's scheme of work through the five themes
  • Short written note after each session on coverage and practice
  • Paused rather than cancelled during mock weeks, so the slot is held

Saturday morning block

Ninety minutes on a weekend morning, when a student is rested and a longer stretch of quantitative work is actually productive. This is the format Meadows 7 to 9 families most often end up choosing, and the reason the 9am Saturday slots are gone by the second week of January.

  • A longer stretch suited to full past-paper sections under timed conditions
  • No competition with homework, co-curriculars or the bus
  • Works for students carrying two independent coursework components
  • Books out earliest in the year; secure it in the autumn term

Investigation clinic

Short, scheduled sessions through the drafting period of the scientific investigation, which carries twenty per cent of the physics grade and is produced almost entirely outside lessons. The tutor explains the criteria, discusses whether a proposed research question is viable, and gives feedback on drafts the student has written.

  • Criteria and their mark allocations explained before anything is drafted
  • Research-question viability tested early, while changing direction is cheap
  • Feedback on analysis, uncertainty treatment and evaluation structure
  • Deadlines planned backwards from the school's internal submission date

Pre-session intensive

A concentrated run in the weeks before the examined session, built on full timed papers and mark-scheme reading rather than new content, and scheduled around the school's own mock and study-leave arrangements so the two do not collide. Ends on a fixed date with the last week left to the student.

  • Full Paper 1 and Paper 2 sections under timed conditions
  • Losses categorised by theme and by cause, reviewed weekly
  • Explicit work on command terms: state, outline, explain, determine, discuss
  • A stated stop date rather than drifting into the exam window

What IB and IGCSE study actually looks like in The Meadows

01

The physics week from the bell to the screen

Start with the window that actually exists. Campuses serving Emirates Living finish between roughly 2:45pm and 3:20pm. The bus loop through Meadows 1 to 9 adds twenty to fifty minutes depending on where your gate sits in the sequence, so a student in Meadows 2 might be home by 3:40pm while a student in Meadows 8 walks in after 4:10pm. Add eating and the recovery a fifteen-year-old needs after a full day, and the earliest honest start for quantitative work is somewhere between 4:30pm and 6pm, by street rather than by community.

The rest of the week constrains it further. Most Diploma students in these schools carry at least two co-curricular commitments, often sport with fixed training evenings. Homework across six subjects plus Theory of Knowledge consumes the rest. Friday is a short school day across the UAE and the family rhythm around it is different, which makes Friday afternoons either the best slot in the week or the worst depending on the household. Saturday mornings are the most productive hour available to most students and the first to be booked.

The practical rule is to book the slot against arrival time rather than finish time, and to confirm it against two weeks of reality rather than one good week in September. Arrangements in this community fail most often in October, when the first fixture clash or the first late bus reveals that the slot was always twenty minutes too early. The table below sets out the windows as they actually behave across a Meadows week, with what each one is genuinely good for, because a tired 4:30pm hour and a rested Saturday ninety minutes are not interchangeable units of tutoring.

Counting the Diploma physics hours: timetabled against needed

Schools timetable Diploma physics generously by secondary-school standards and thinly by the standards of what the course contains. Higher Level is commonly scheduled at four to six periods a week, Standard Level at three to four, and a meaningful share of that time goes to the practical programme, which is required and valuable and is not content delivery. Subtract registration, settling and the inevitable interruptions of a school calendar and the genuine teaching time is noticeably less than the period count implies.

Against that, count what the course asks for. Five themes across two years, each with Higher Level extensions. Two written papers carrying eighty per cent of the grade between them, examined through unfamiliar contexts that reward practice rather than recall. A scientific investigation worth the other twenty per cent, produced over months and largely outside lessons. Question practice sufficient to build the pattern recognition the papers test. And, in a Dubai school, mandatory Arabic, Islamic Education and social studies lessons occupying timetable hours that have to come from somewhere.

The deficit this produces is where tutoring sits, and naming it changes what you buy. If the gap is content coverage, a weekly hour through Year 12 is the right purchase and the cheapest one. If the gap is practice volume, the answer is a structured set of problems with marked feedback rather than more teaching. If the gap is the investigation, the answer is three to five scheduled clinics at the right points in the drafting period, not a term of weekly sessions. The table below lays the budget out so the deficit is visible rather than assumed.

03

Which campuses this neighbourhood feeds, and what each day end means

A Meadows address does not map to one school. The buses out of Emirates Living serve the Al Barsha and Al Sufouh corridor, the two IB campuses on the Emirates Hills side, and increasingly the newer schools in Al Barsha South and Motor City. Which one your child attends determines the day end, the route length and therefore the earliest session that is honestly available, which is why a tutoring plan built without naming the school tends to fall apart in the first month.

It also determines something more consequential for physics specifically: whether Higher Level is offered in your child's cohort at all. Diploma physics at Higher Level requires enough students to make a set viable, and in smaller cohorts it occasionally does not run, or runs in a block that collides with another subject the student wanted. Families discover this at options time and have limited room to move. Where a student has ended up at Standard Level by timetable rather than by choice, tutoring is sometimes being asked to do a job that a subject change would have done better.

The table below names the clusters, their communities and what each means for scheduling a session from The Meadows. Inspection ratings are deliberately absent: they should only ever be read from KHDA's own published reports, and a rating quoted second hand on a tutoring page is worth nothing. Read the subject-level commentary in the report if you want to know about a science department, rather than the headline band, which is a whole-school judgement across many measures.

Where the physics grade actually sits, component by component

The current Diploma physics course is assessed by two written papers and one internally assessed scientific investigation. Paper 1 carries thirty-six per cent of the grade and combines multiple-choice questions with data-based questions; Paper 2 carries forty-four per cent through short-answer and extended-response questions; the investigation carries the remaining twenty per cent. Higher Level sits longer papers with additional content in each theme, but the weightings are the same at both levels, which surprises parents who assume Higher Level shifts the balance.

That distribution has a direct planning consequence. Paper 2 is the single largest component in the course, it is where extended reasoning and command-term discipline are tested, and it is the component least improved by content revision alone. The investigation is the second largest at twenty per cent, it is settled before the examinations are sat, and it is the only component where a student can bank marks calmly over months rather than produce them in a hall. A plan that spends its hours on content coverage and leaves both of those to look after themselves is misallocated.

Where marks leak is predictable by theme. Vector resolution in theme A propagates errors into fields and circular motion. Circuit reasoning in theme B fails when potential difference is argued about instead of calculated. Theme C rewards labelled diagrams over verbal description. Theme D, fields, is the one Higher Level students name most often as impossible, because three field types share superficially similar formulae and the mathematics is unforgiving. Theme E is usually the least secure simply because it is taught last. None of that is a mystery to a tutor who has taught the course, which is why asking about it in a trial lesson is informative.

05

Fitting the scientific investigation into a Year 12 week

A fifth of the physics grade is produced at home, over months, with a handful of supervised checkpoints, while the student is also carrying five other subjects, the Extended Essay and Theory of Knowledge. Stated like that, the reason investigations slip is obvious: the work has no timetabled hour, so it competes with everything that does. Families in The Meadows discover this in the week before the school's internal deadline, which is the most expensive week in which to discover it.

The fix is calendar work rather than teaching. Put the school's internal deadline on a calendar, then place four milestones backwards from it: a research question agreed, data collected, analysis complete, full draft written. Each milestone needs a dated slot in the week, and a Saturday morning is usually the only place one genuinely exists. A tutoring clinic placed at each milestone is worth more than a weekly session running alongside, because the failure here is not a lack of understanding; it is a lack of scheduled time.

The criteria matter to that scheduling because they tell you where the hours should go. Research design, data analysis, conclusion and evaluation each carry six marks, making twenty-four in total. Students typically overspend on data collection and underspend on evaluation, which is where the marks are easiest to earn with careful writing. Knowing the allocation before starting changes how the months are spent, and it is the single most useful thing a tutor can hand a Year 12 student in the autumn term.

INVESTIGATION CRITERIA, MARKS AND WHERE THE HOURS SHOULD GO

What driving to a tutor actually costs over a term

The cost conversation in Dubai right now has a useful anchor: KHDA confirmed in May 2026 that there would be no increase in private school fees in the emirate for the 2026-27 academic year, under Dubai's second economic incentives package valued at AED 1.5 billion within a AED 2.5 billion total. School fees are, for once, a fixed quantity, which makes it a reasonable year to look hard at the variable spending around them, and tutoring is the largest piece of that for most Diploma families in this neighbourhood.

Market rates in Dubai, read in October 2026, put budget online tutoring at AED 45 to 150 an hour, with EdFlik publishing AED 45 to 65 and Tutopiya from AED 33 to 52. Qualified online subject tutors sit at AED 150 to 300, with Unitors publishing IB from AED 200. Specialists are quoted at AED 200 to 450 and above, with TutorChase at AED 270 and Bestimate's Tutoring Cost Dubai 2026 table at AED 200 to 450 and upwards for specialist exam-year support. In-home visits including travel run AED 180 to 500, on Bestimate's AED 180 to 350 band plus independent home tutors at AED 200 to 500, and BartyED is published at AED 650 at the premium end. Monthly packages in circulation include AED 799 for eight online sessions and AED 1,599 to 1,799 for four two-hour in-home sessions. Every one of those figures belongs to the named provider; none is an IB Gram price, and we publish a free trial lesson and a consultation instead of a rate card.

The figure nobody puts on a page is the travel. A round trip from Meadows 6 to a tutor or centre in Al Barsha at half past four, allowing for the afternoon peak in both directions, commonly runs to ninety minutes. Over a thirty-week term at one session a week that is forty-five hours of a parent's year and forty-five hours of a student's, spent sitting still. The table below prices that honestly alongside the rates, because the comparison between online and in-home in this community is not really about the hourly figure. It is about what else those forty-five hours could have been.

07

The mandatory UAE lessons, and the study hours they occupy

A physics hours budget in a Dubai private school is incomplete without the subjects every school must teach regardless of its licensed curriculum. Arabic, Islamic Education and social or moral studies are mandatory in all Dubai private schools, and KHDA's requirements were to be implemented by the start of the 2025-26 academic year, or April 2026 for schools whose year begins in April. Federally, private schools are not obliged to follow a specific curriculum beyond Arabic language, social studies and Islamic studies, but must adhere to the Ministry's general regulations.

The arithmetic is specific. KHDA calculates mandatory-subject instructional time on a 40-minute lesson unit, allows schools to vary lesson length provided the total weekly time is met, and advises that any mandatory-subject lesson should run at least 25 minutes. Schools must organise separate classes for Arabs and non-Arabs in Arabic as a first language, Islamic Education and Social Studies, and combined classes for both groups are strictly prohibited because of the different curriculum expectations and language of instruction. Schools are also required to ensure that teachers of Islamic Education and Arabic hold appropriate KHDA approval for those subjects.

For a Diploma physics student this is why the independent-study budget is smaller than a six-subject timetable suggests, and it is a reason to plan the investigation and the Extended Essay deliberately rather than hoping they fit. Where support in these subjects is needed, it has to work inside the school's own material: for the mandatory UAE subjects, the use of any different or additional content without prior permission from the Ministry of Education is strictly prohibited. That rules out a parallel course and makes the school, rather than a tutor, the right first conversation.

08

An investigation written at home, and the line that protects the qualification

  • Criteria and mark allocations explained: permitted and useful
  • Research question discussed; chosen by the student
  • Physics and uncertainty treatment taught: permitted
  • Data processing, evaluation writing or editing to completion: never

Because the scientific investigation is produced at a kitchen table rather than in a classroom, the question of what help is permitted arrives in practice rather than in theory. The boundary is worth writing down before any session is booked, and it is a genuine point of difference in this market, where completed coursework is openly sold to UAE families by at least one site in the same search results.

What a tutor may legitimately do: explain each criterion and its mark allocation in plain language, discuss whether a proposed research question is viable with the equipment available, teach the physics and the uncertainty treatment the student needs, show what a strong evaluation looks like in general terms, and give feedback on a draft the student has written. What a tutor may not do: choose the research question, process the data that appears in the report, supply the evaluation, or rewrite the work to completion. The student does the investigation and writes every submitted word.

The reason to be strict about this is not squeamishness. IB academic-honesty rules make submitted work that is not the student's own a malpractice matter, and the consequence falls on the student's qualification rather than on the tutoring fee. The school supervisor also authenticates the work, so an investigation that does not match the student's demonstrated ability is a risk at the point of submission. Ask any prospective tutor where their line sits. A tutor who cannot describe one in concrete terms is a risk to your child, whatever the rate.

09

Starting physics support from The Meadows, timetable first

The first thing we ask is not about physics. It is which school, which sub-community, and what time your child actually walks through the door, because that determines whether any arrangement will survive October. Then the level, the themes covered so far, whether the investigation has a research question yet, and the most recent marked work you hold. A free 45-minute trial follows, one-to-one over live video with the tutor who would teach the term rather than a consultant, and no card details are required to book it.

The recommendation will sometimes be to buy less. If the gap is practice volume, the right purchase is a set of marked problems rather than a weekly teaching hour. If the investigation has no research question in November, that is the thing to spend on and the content can wait. If the student is at Standard Level because of a timetable block and wanted Higher Level, that is a conversation with the school before it is a tutoring question. Saying so is what makes the advice worth anything on the occasions when it is to spend more.

The limits, stated in advance. Higher Level physics is the thinnest specialist supply in this subject anywhere, and Saturday morning slots in this neighbourhood are gone by mid-January; where no UAE-based tutor covers the level and slot you need, the match may be an experienced Diploma physics specialist teaching from outside the UAE on the same live video format and the same Gulf Standard Time schedule, and we say so before you book. No tutor will promise a grade. No tutor will produce any part of the investigation. No tutor will come to a villa in Emirates Living, because in-home visiting is not a service we sell in the UAE. No IB session dates appear on this page, because the IB's own site could not be verified for this project: confirm them with your school's coordinator. And nothing here claims approval, accreditation, licensing or partnership with the IB, KHDA, MoHRE or the Ministry of Education, because IB Gram holds none of those and runs no UAE office.

Where we tutor

The Meadows bus loop, and what each stop does to a session time

These notes are about time rather than place. Each sub-community sits at a different point on the afternoon loop, and the difference between the first stop and the last is the difference between a workable weekday slot and a fictional one.

Meadows 1 and 2

Closest to the Al Khail Road access and generally early on the loop, with arrivals often by 3:40pm. A 4:15pm physics slot is realistic here, which makes it the easiest part of the community to schedule for.

Meadows 3 and 4

Mid-loop, with arrivals typically between 3:50pm and 4:10pm. A 4:45pm start works on most weekdays; anything earlier means the student arrives at the screen without having eaten, which is a false economy in a quantitative subject.

Meadows 5 and 6

Deep in the loop and the slowest to clear during the afternoon peak. Arrivals past 4:10pm are normal, so 5:30pm is the honest earliest slot and 6:30pm the comfortable one for a full hour of physics.

Meadows 7, 8 and 9

Nearest the Emirates Hills boundary, last on most loops, tightest access. Weekday evenings work from 6pm; families here take a disproportionate share of the Saturday morning slots, which are booked out first every January.

The Springs and The Lakes

Shared buses and school allocations with The Meadows, so the same arrival arithmetic applies. The difference is the enquiry mix: more Year 10 and 11 science here, fewer Diploma physics requests.

The Views and The Greens

Apartment communities across Sheikh Zayed Road with shorter runs to Regent International School and the Marina campuses. Genuinely earlier slots are available, which matters for students carrying two independent coursework components.

Emirates Hills

Served by the two IB campuses on this side of the city and weighted heavily towards Diploma families. Most Higher Level physics enquiries in this catchment come from here, and most requests for investigation support.

Al Barsha, Al Sufouh and Al Barsha South

Where the schools are and where the tuition centres are. Driving to a centre from Meadows 6 at 4:30pm and back is an evening, not an hour, which is the arithmetic the travel table further down this page sets out.

IB and Cambridge school communities we support in The Meadows

IB campuses serving The Meadows and Emirates Hills

Where Diploma physics is actually taught within reach of this neighbourhood. Not every campus offers physics at both levels in every cohort, which is itself a reason a student ends up at the level the timetable allowed rather than the one they chose.

  • Dubai International Academy Emirates Hills
  • GEMS World Academy Dubai
  • Nord Anglia International School Dubai
  • Dubai International Academy Al Barsha

British-curriculum campuses on the same bus routes

The schools most Meadows buses actually serve, running IGCSE physics at 16 and A Level afterwards. They matter on a Diploma physics page because they set the day-end times that govern when a session in this community can start.

  • Dubai British School Emirates Hills
  • Kings' School Al Barsha
  • Dubai College
  • Jumeirah College
  • Repton School Al Barsha
  • Safa Community School

The Al Barsha South and Motor City campuses

Growth-corridor schools with expanding sixth forms, part of the seven new private schools and 16,846 places in Dubai's 2026-27 intake. Longer bus routes from here mean later arrivals and a narrower evening window.

  • Dubai Heights Academy
  • Sunmarke School, Jumeirah Village Triangle
  • GEMS Metropole School, Motor City

How matching works

From first enquiry to a tutor who fits

  1. 01

Start with the timetable, not the syllabus

Tell us the school, the sub-community and the time your child actually reaches home. The nine Meadows sub-communities sit at different points on the afternoon bus loop, and a slot set against the school bell rather than the arrival time is the most common reason a weekly arrangement quietly stops in October.

  2. 02

State the level and the themes covered

Higher or Standard Level, and which of the five themes the school has taught so far. Physics schemes of work vary in order, and a tutor who teaches theme D before the class has finished theme A is working against the school rather than with it. The scheme of work is usually available on request.

  3. 03

    Say where the investigation stands

Research question agreed, data collected, analysis started, or nothing yet. Twenty per cent of the grade sits here and it is produced outside lessons, so its status changes what the next six weeks should be spent on more than any exam-paper consideration does.

  4. 04

Take the trial and ask about theme D

Forty-five minutes, one-to-one over live video, with the tutor who would teach the term. Ask them where students lose marks in fields, how they teach uncertainty treatment, and what the investigation criteria are worth. Specific answers mean a physics teacher; general ones mean a science graduate.

  5. 05

Put four investigation milestones on a calendar

Working backwards from the school's internal deadline: research question agreed, data collected, analysis complete, full draft written. Each needs a dated slot, and a Saturday morning is usually the only place one genuinely exists in a Diploma week. Clinics placed at the milestones beat a weekly session running alongside.

  6. 06

    Review monthly against marked work

Marks out of a known total on timed sections, losses categorised by theme and by cause, compared monthly against the original diagnosis. If a named theme has not moved in four weeks, change the method or the tutor. Agreeing that trigger before the first invoice keeps the conversation administrative.

Why families choose us

What UAE parents tell us matters most

Scheduled against the bus, not the bell

Session times are set against your sub-community's actual arrival time, because an arrangement that is twenty minutes too early in September is a cancellation by October. In this community that is the difference between tutoring that runs all year and tutoring that is abandoned twice.

The hours budget made visible

What the school timetables, what the course needs and where the difference has to come from, set out so you can see which deficit you are buying. Content coverage, practice volume and the investigation are three different purchases with three different price tags.

Both large components taken seriously

Paper 2 carries forty-four per cent and the investigation twenty, and between them they decide the grade. A plan that spends all its hours on content coverage and leaves both to look after themselves is the most common misallocation in this subject.

Travel priced as a cost

A round trip to an Al Barsha tutor from Meadows 6 runs to ninety minutes at the afternoon peak, which is thirty to forty-five hours across a thirty-week term. We put that number on the page rather than describing online tuition as convenient.

A written boundary on assessed work

Criteria explained, physics taught, drafts given feedback; research question chosen by the student, data processed by the student, every submitted word written by the student. That line is published because completed coursework is openly sold to UAE families in this same search.

Nothing claimed that cannot be shown

No IB session dates, because the IB's own site could not be verified for this project. No examiner status asserted without evidence. No accreditation from the IB, KHDA, MoHRE or the Ministry of Education, because IB Gram holds none, and no UAE office, because there is not one.

Questions parents ask

IB and IGCSE tutoring in The Meadows: your questions answered

What time can a Diploma physics session start on a Meadows weekday?+

It depends which sub-community you are in, because the afternoon bus loop runs through nine of them in sequence. Schools serving Emirates Living finish between roughly 2:45pm and 3:20pm, and the loop adds twenty to fifty minutes, so a student in Meadows 2 may be home by 3:40pm while one in Meadows 8 arrives after 4:10pm. Allowing for eating and recovery, the honest earliest start is 4:30pm for the early stops and 6pm for the late ones. Booking against the school bell rather than actual arrival is why most weekly arrangements here fail in October.

How many physics periods a week does a Higher Level student actually get?+

Commonly four to six, with Standard Level at three to four, and a meaningful share of that going to the required practical programme rather than content delivery. Subtract registration, settling and the interruptions of a school calendar and the genuine teaching time is less than the period count suggests. Against that the course asks for five themes with Higher Level extensions, two papers worth eighty per cent between them, substantial marked question practice, and an investigation worth twenty per cent produced outside lessons. The deficit is where tutoring belongs, and naming which part of it you are buying matters more than the rate.

Which schools near The Meadows actually run Diploma physics?+

The IB campuses within reach of this neighbourhood include Emirates International School Meadows and Dubai International Academy Emirates Hills on the Emirates Hills side, with GEMS World Academy Dubai, Nord Anglia International School Dubai and Dubai International Academy Al Barsha across the Barsha corridor. Whether Higher Level physics runs in a given cohort depends on set sizes, and in smaller cohorts it occasionally does not, or collides in the block structure with another chosen subject. Ask the school directly at options time. Schools are named here as local context only; IB Gram has no relationship with any of them.

What are Paper 1 and Paper 2 worth in Diploma physics?+

Paper 1 carries thirty-six per cent of the grade and combines multiple-choice with data-based questions. Paper 2 carries forty-four per cent through short-answer and extended-response questions, which makes it the single largest component in the course. The scientific investigation carries the remaining twenty per cent. Higher Level sits longer papers with additional content in each theme, but the weightings are identical at both levels, which often surprises parents. The planning consequence is that extended reasoning and command-term discipline, which Paper 2 tests, deserve more of the tutoring budget than content coverage usually gets.

How is the physics scientific investigation marked?+

Against four criteria, each carrying six marks for a total of twenty-four, which converts to twenty per cent of the final grade at both levels. Research design rewards a focused research question with a justified methodology. Data analysis rewards correct processing, proper treatment of uncertainties and appropriate graphs. Conclusion rewards a conclusion genuinely justified by the data. Evaluation rewards meaningful discussion of limitations and realistic improvements, and it is both the most underspent criterion and the easiest to earn marks on with careful writing. Knowing the allocation before drafting changes how the months get spent.

When in Year 12 should the investigation be started?+

Earlier than it usually is, and the useful discipline is calendar work rather than teaching. Put the school's internal deadline on a calendar and place four milestones backwards from it: research question agreed, data collected, analysis complete, full draft written. Each milestone needs a dated slot, and in a Diploma week a Saturday morning is often the only place one genuinely exists. The failure here is almost never a lack of understanding; it is that the work has no timetabled hour and therefore competes with everything that does.

How much of our week does driving to a physics tutor cost?+

A round trip from Meadows 6 to a tutor or centre in Al Barsha at half past four, allowing for the afternoon peak in both directions, commonly runs to ninety minutes. At one session a week across a thirty-week term that is thirty to forty-five hours for the parent driving and the same for the student sitting in the car. That figure rarely appears in a rate comparison, and in this community it is the largest single difference between an online arrangement and a local one. The teaching in the hour is the same either way.

What should my child do with a returned physics paper?+

Mark it themselves against the published scheme, line by line, before discussing it with anyone. The purpose is to count the marks they earned the thinking for and failed to claim, which in physics usually means unstated assumptions, missing units, no reference to a named law, or a conclusion that does not answer the command term. That number changes behaviour faster than any instruction. The paid role in this is setting the work, verifying the marking and keeping an error log by theme, not sitting with the student while they read it.

Which physics theme causes the most trouble for Year 12 students?+

Theme D, fields, is the one Higher Level students name most often, because gravitational, electric and magnetic fields share superficially similar formulae and the mathematics is unforgiving. Theme A causes quieter damage earlier: a student who cannot resolve vectors confidently carries that weakness into circular motion and fields months later. Theme E is frequently the least secure simply because it is taught last and gets the fewest weeks. A tutor who can describe this pattern without being prompted has taught the course; one who cannot is teaching physics in general.

Can physics and maths share one tutor to save time in the week?+

Often yes, and in a crowded Diploma week the saving is in hours as much as in dirhams. Rearrangement, graph interpretation, logarithms and calculus all appear in physics questions, and a student weak in both subjects is frequently losing marks for the same underlying reason. The caveat is the investigation: it has its own criteria and needs somebody who has supervised one, so check that the shared tutor covers that component too. Pairing physics with a non-quantitative subject under one tutor rarely works and is not a saving worth making.

Are Saturday morning sessions better than weekday evenings here?+

For quantitative work, usually yes, and that is why the 9am Saturday slots in this community are gone by the second week of January. A rested student working for ninety minutes without homework, co-curriculars or a bus competing for the time produces considerably more than a tired one at 4:30pm. Weekday evenings still matter for consolidation, marking review and setting practice. The practical advice for a Meadows family is to secure the weekend slot in the autumn term and use weekday evenings as the flexible part of the arrangement.

How do the mandatory Arabic and Islamic Education lessons affect study time?+

They occupy timetable hours that have to come from somewhere, which is why the independent-study budget in a Dubai school is smaller than a six-subject timetable implies. Arabic, Islamic Education and social or moral studies are mandatory in all Dubai private schools regardless of the licensed curriculum, and KHDA calculates the instructional time on a 40-minute lesson unit, advising at least 25 minutes for any mandatory-subject lesson. Separate classes for Arabs and non-Arabs are required in several of them. Plan the investigation and Extended Essay around this rather than discovering the squeeze in February.

What does Diploma physics support cost around The Meadows?+

Published Dubai rates read in October 2026 ran roughly AED 45 to 150 an hour for budget online tutoring, with EdFlik at AED 45 to 65 and Tutopiya from AED 33 to 52; AED 150 to 300 for a qualified online subject tutor, with Unitors listing IB from AED 200; AED 200 to 450 and above for specialists, with TutorChase at AED 270; and AED 180 to 500 for in-home visits including travel, with BartyED published at AED 650 at the premium end. None is an IB Gram price. Worth noting as context: KHDA confirmed no private school fee increase in Dubai for 2026-27.

Is it worth starting physics tutoring in the final weeks before the session?+

It can be, provided the work changes shape. In the last six to eight weeks, new content teaching is poor value and timed-paper work with proper marking is not: most of the remaining gain sits in command-term discipline, unit and assumption discipline, and pace. Set a fixed stop date and leave the final week to the student. What it cannot do is substitute for a missing investigation, which carries twenty per cent and is settled before the papers. If that component is incomplete, it is the first call on whatever time remains.

What happens to our sessions during school mock examinations?+

They should change purpose rather than stop. During mock weeks, new content is wasted and paper technique is not, so the hour is better spent on timed sections, mark-scheme reading and the specific themes the mocks will cover. Pausing rather than cancelling keeps the slot, which matters because in this community a surrendered Saturday morning is not recoverable in January. Agree at the start of the year that mock weeks switch to technique and that study-leave weeks may need a different timetable; both are easier to arrange in September than in February.

Can a tutor help with the investigation when the school already supervises it?+

Yes, and the two roles are different. The school supervisor runs the required checkpoints and authenticates the work; a tutor adds explanation of the criteria, discussion of whether a research question is viable, teaching of the physics and the uncertainty treatment, and feedback on drafts the student has written. A tutor must not choose the research question, process the data that appears in the report, supply the evaluation or edit the work to completion. Submitted work that is not the student's own is a malpractice matter, and the consequence falls on the qualification rather than the fee.
