IB Chemistry Tutor in The Meadows

Families hiring an IB chemistry tutor in The Meadows usually ask the rate first and the sequence never, which is why the bill across two years runs higher than it needed to. This page sets out the published Dubai rates with their sources, what the in-home travel premium is actually buying, which terms of the Diploma give a dirham the most to work with, and the three chemistry-specific places the money disappears. Lessons are one-to-one over live video on Gulf Standard Time; no tutor visits a UAE address.

IB & IGCSE in The Meadows

The rate is the small decision; the sequence is the large one

Two Diploma families in The Meadows can spend the same amount on chemistry across two years and end up two grades apart. The difference is almost never the hourly rate. It is when the money was spent, on which component, and whether anybody checked first where the marks were actually being lost. A family that spends AED 250 an hour from the autumn of Year 12, aimed at the quantitative spine and the investigation, gets considerably more than a family that spends AED 450 an hour from January of Year 13 on whatever topic the student mentions.

Chemistry has a specific cost structure that makes this worse than in other subjects. The course is built on a quantitative spine, the mole and everything that follows from it, which runs through almost every topic. A student shaky on that spine loses marks that look like energetics marks, equilibrium marks or organic marks, and a tutor who treats each of those as a separate content problem will teach three topics and fix none of them. That is how twelve weeks of competent teaching produces no movement at all, and it is the single most expensive pattern in this subject.

There is also a component that behaves differently from everything else. The scientific investigation carries twenty per cent of the final grade, is marked out of twenty-four across four criteria, and is produced over months outside lesson time. Those are the cheapest marks in the course per hour of effort, because they can be earned calmly with a deadline and a plan rather than under examination conditions. They are also the marks most often left to chance while a family pays for weekly content sessions, which is the second most expensive pattern.

So this page is a pricing page rather than a prospectus. It carries the published Dubai market rates with the provider and date attached to each one, a straight answer on what the in-home travel premium buys, a term-by-term profile of when chemistry spending is worth most, the three ways the money goes nowhere, the Higher Level content load priced in hours rather than adjectives, and a short list of things a parent should decline to pay for at any rate.

IB Gram delivers chemistry support as one-to-one live video tuition on Gulf Standard Time. We do not send tutors to addresses in The Meadows or anywhere in the UAE, because in-home visiting is a service our India operation runs; the in-home figures quoted below belong to other providers in this market. Removing the drive is also a cost decision: at Higher Level chemistry the specialist pool is narrow everywhere, and a family that insists on a tutor who will drive to Emirates Living is choosing from the subset willing to spend an hour in traffic, then paying for that hour in the rate.

At a glance

  • Published rates are attributed and dated; none of them is our price
  • Paper 2 carries 44% of the grade; the investigation carries 20%
  • The investigation is 24 marks across four criteria, earned over months
  • The mole and stoichiometry spine runs through almost every topic
  • Autumn of Year 12 buys more per dirham than January of Year 13
  • Lessons are live video, one-to-one; no tutor visits a UAE address
IB programmes

Every IB programme stage, mapped to UAE school years

Chemistry appears under different names and different assessment rules along the route through a Dubai international school, and the cost of support changes sharply between them. These are the four stages behind enquiries from Emirates Living.

MYPAges 11-16 · Years 7-11

IB Middle Years Programme sciences

Criterion-assessed science in which chemistry content is distributed rather than taught as a standalone subject in most schools. The criteria reward investigation skills and communication, which is valuable, and do not specifically test the arithmetic fluency that the Diploma's quantitative spine assumes. A comfortable MYP science profile is therefore a weak predictor of Diploma chemistry performance.

Emirates International School Meadows and Dubai International Academy Emirates Hills both run MYP. For a family here the cheapest useful purchase at this stage is a short diagnostic on arithmetic and proportional reasoning in Year 10 or 11, which nobody buys because the criterion scores look fine and nothing appears to be wrong.

DPAges 16-19 · Years 12-13

IB Diploma Programme Chemistry

Six topics across two organising themes, Structure and Reactivity, assessed by two written papers worth eighty per cent between them plus an internally assessed scientific investigation worth twenty. A data booklet is provided in the examinations, which changes what is worth memorising and what is worth practising. Higher Level sits longer papers with additional content in each topic.

The IB carried 7 per cent of Dubai private-school enrolment in 2024-25, with three further IB schools in the emirate's 2026-27 intake. Higher Level chemistry specialists are among the narrowest supply in this market, and that scarcity rather than any local cost of living is what sits behind the upper rate bands quoted in Dubai.

IGCSEAges 14-16 · Years 10-11

IGCSE and International GCSE Chemistry

Cambridge 0620 with a separate practical or alternative-to-practical paper, or Pearson 4CH1 which assesses practical skills inside the written papers. The usual feeder into Diploma chemistry locally, and the stage at which moles, electrolysis and organic nomenclature either become secure or stay permanently approximate.

Most schools serving The Meadows run IGCSE rather than MYP, so the majority of local Diploma chemistry students arrive from 0620 or 4CH1. A grade 8 earned on scaffolded questions is a weaker signal than parents expect: the Diploma asks the same chemistry in unfamiliar contexts, and that is a different skill.

AAges 16-18 · Years 12-13

A Level Chemistry

The alternative post-16 route in the British-curriculum schools nearby, with no internally assessed component carrying a fifth of the grade and a practical endorsement assessed separately. Students choosing between it and Diploma chemistry are choosing between three subjects in depth and six subjects plus an independent research component.

Families in this neighbourhood frequently hold the decision open into Year 11, and the cost consequence is worth naming: the Diploma route adds an independent investigation that needs scheduled support, while the A Level route concentrates the spend into examination technique. Neither is cheaper overall; they are expensive in different terms.

Subject coverage

IB and IGCSE subjects we tutor

Chemistry is set out by the topics in the current guide, because the organising structure determines where support is needed and a tutor who cannot name it has not read the course. The subjects after it share a Diploma week with chemistry and sometimes a tutor.

Structure 1: Models of the particulate nature of matter

Higher and Standard Level

The mole, atomic structure, electron configuration and quantum ideas, with Higher Level extensions. This is where the quantitative spine of the whole course begins, and a weakness here reappears as a lost mark in energetics or equilibrium two terms later. The cheapest topic in the course to fix and the most expensive to leave alone.

Structure 2: Models of bonding and structure

Higher and Standard Level

Ionic, covalent and metallic bonding, intermolecular forces and structure-property relationships, with Higher Level work on formal charge and molecular orbital ideas. Students lose marks explaining properties qualitatively where the question wants a specific interaction named and its relative strength justified.

Structure 3: Classification of matter

Higher and Standard Level

The periodic table, periodicity, and the introduction to organic classification and spectroscopic identification. The organic nomenclature taught here is assumed for the rest of the course, and students who never fully secured it pay for that in Reactivity 3 at a higher rate per mark.

Reactivity 1: What drives chemical reactions

Higher and Standard Level

Energetics and thermodynamics, enthalpy cycles, entropy and spontaneity at Higher Level. Calculation-heavy and unforgiving about sign conventions and state symbols. Most of the lost marks here are arithmetic and presentation rather than conceptual, which makes them cheap to recover with marked practice.

Reactivity 2: How much, how fast and how far

Higher and Standard Level

Reaction kinetics, equilibrium and acid-base behaviour, with Higher Level work on rate laws, equilibrium constants and buffer calculations. The topic where the quantitative spine is tested hardest, and where a student who cannot handle logarithms confidently loses marks that look like chemistry marks.

Reactivity 3: What are the mechanisms of chemical change

Higher and Standard Level

Redox, electrochemistry and organic reaction mechanisms, with substantial Higher Level extensions. This is the part of the course where a genuine specialist is worth paying a premium for, because mechanism work rewards pattern recognition built over hundreds of examples rather than explanation.

Biology HL and SL

Higher and Standard Level

Shares the investigation structure and the data-analysis skills, so one tutor can cover both internal assessments competently. Content overlap is limited to biochemistry and metabolism, so the saving is real for the coursework component and modest for the written papers.

Physics HL and SL

Higher and Standard Level

Shares the quantitative discipline, unit handling and graph interpretation that chemistry's calculation topics depend on. A student losing marks in both subjects is often losing them for one reason, which is a case where a shared tutor saves money rather than splitting attention.

Mathematics: Analysis and Approaches

Higher and Standard Level

The subject that underwrites chemistry's calculation topics: logarithms for pH and rate laws, proportional reasoning throughout, and algebraic rearrangement in equilibrium work. A short maths block is frequently the cheapest route to a chemistry grade, and almost nobody buys it as such.

Mathematics: Applications and Interpretation

Higher and Standard Level

Workable alongside chemistry, with the caveat that the logarithmic and algebraic fluency Higher Level chemistry assumes is developed more directly in Analysis and Approaches. Students on this combination often need a targeted algebra block in the first term of Year 12.

The Extended Essay in chemistry

Core requirement

A 4,000-word independent research essay supervised by the school. Chemistry is a demanding choice because a question that can be investigated with available equipment and still reach the higher bands is hard to frame. A tutor's role is process coaching and feedback on the student's own drafts, never research or writing.

Theory of Knowledge

Core requirement

Assessed by exhibition and essay, with the natural sciences as one of the areas of knowledge. Support means explaining how the assessment works and responding to the student's own argument. It is also an hours cost that competes with the chemistry investigation in the same term.

How sessions run

Tutoring formats built around UAE school timetables

Four formats, all one tutor to one student over live video, priced for different jobs. The format decision moves the two-year total far more than any negotiation over the hourly figure.

Spine diagnostic

Two sessions aimed only at the quantitative spine: moles, concentration, proportional reasoning, logarithms and unit handling, tested through timed calculation sets rather than discussion. The output is a written statement of whether the student's losses across energetics, equilibrium and electrochemistry share one root cause, which they usually do.

  • Timed calculation sets, marked for accuracy and presentation
  • A written root-cause statement rather than a topic list
  • A recommendation on whether a maths block is the cheaper route
  • Repeated after six weeks to confirm the spine has actually moved

Weekly course support

One session a week alongside the school's teaching order through Year 12 and into Year 13. The cheapest money per mark in the subject, because the content is being delivered in class at the same time and the tutoring consolidates rather than rebuilds. Bought in the autumn term it costs substantially less overall than the same result bought in January.

  • Fixed slot set against your sub-community's actual bus arrival
  • Topic order follows the school's scheme of work through Structure and Reactivity
  • Timed questions set between sessions and formally marked
  • Monthly review against the spine diagnostic

Investigation clinics

Three to five scheduled sessions placed at the milestones of the scientific investigation, which carries twenty per cent of the grade across twenty-four marks. Per mark, these are the cheapest hours available in chemistry, because the marks are earned with a plan and a deadline rather than under examination pressure.

  • Criteria and mark allocations explained before anything is drafted
  • Research question viability tested early, when direction is still cheap to change
  • Feedback on data processing, uncertainty treatment and evaluation structure
  • Milestones dated backwards from the school's internal deadline

Mechanism intensive

A short block on organic mechanisms and electrochemistry, the part of the course where a genuine specialist earns the premium. Mechanism work rewards pattern recognition built across many worked examples, so the sessions are built on volume of practice with immediate correction rather than on explanation.

  • Four to eight sessions with a stated finish rather than an open arrangement
  • Built on worked mechanism sets with immediate marking
  • Nomenclature and reagent recall checked first, since that is often the real gap
  • Ends with a self-testing routine the student can run alone

What IB and IGCSE study actually looks like in The Meadows

01

What the travel premium actually buys in Emirates Living

Begin with the part of the Dubai rate card that confuses parents most: why an in-home chemistry hour costs more than an online one when the teaching inside it is identical. The published bands make the gap plain. In-home one-to-one visits including travel are quoted at AED 180 to 500, on Bestimate's Tutoring Cost Dubai 2026 band of AED 180 to 350 plus independent home tutors at AED 200 to 500, while a qualified online subject tutor sits at AED 150 to 300, with Unitors publishing IB from AED 200. The difference is not better chemistry. It is the tutor's travel time, priced into the hour because they cannot sell it to anybody else.

There is a second, larger thing the premium buys, and it buys it in the wrong direction. A tutor willing to drive to Meadows 7 at half past four is selected from the subset of specialists prepared to spend an hour in traffic for a sixty-minute lesson. At Higher Level chemistry, where the specialist pool is narrow in any city, that filter removes most of the people you actually want. So the in-home premium is a payment for a smaller choice of tutor, which is the opposite of what a parent paying a premium expects to receive.

The rest of the market, for completeness and with every figure attributed. Budget online tutoring runs AED 45 to 150, with EdFlik publishing AED 45 to 65 and Tutopiya from AED 33 to 52. IB, IGCSE and A Level specialists are quoted at AED 200 to 450 and above, with TutorChase at AED 270. Premium named tutors go higher, with BartyED published at AED 650. Monthly packages in circulation include AED 799 for eight online sessions and AED 1,599 to 1,799 for four two-hour in-home sessions, and Bestimate's monthly estimates for a weekly hour run AED 240 to 600 at the budget end, AED 600 to 1,200 mid-range and AED 1,000 to 2,000 or more for specialist exam-year support. All were read from the named provider's own published material in October 2026. None is an IB Gram price; we publish a free trial lesson and a consultation instead of a rate card.

02

The two-year spend profile: when a dirham buys the most

Chemistry spending has a value curve across the Diploma, and almost all of the money in this neighbourhood is spent on the wrong part of it. In the autumn of Year 12 the content is being taught in class, the quantitative spine can still be rebuilt cheaply, and the investigation has not yet become urgent. An hour bought here does three useful things at once. In January of Year 13 the content is delivered, the spine problem is two years old, the investigation is either finished or a crisis, and an hour can only do one thing: exam technique.

The rate card runs in the opposite direction to that curve. Demand across Dubai peaks in the second term of the final year, which is when specialists are most booked and families least able to negotiate. So the expensive hours are being bought at the point when each one is worth least, and the cheap hours are available at the point when each one is worth most. Nothing about that is anybody's fault; it is simply what happens when spending is triggered by a report rather than by a plan.

The table below sets out the profile term by term, with what the course is doing, what a dirham buys at that point, and the typical commitment. It is written to be used against your own calendar: find the term your child is in now, and compare what you are spending against what that term can actually deliver. Where the answer is that the term cannot deliver what you want, the honest move is usually to spend less now and reallocate rather than to spend more on an hour that cannot do the job.

Three chemistry-specific ways the money disappears

  • Spine before topics: a two-session diagnostic settles whether losses share one cause
  • Nomenclature and reagents before mechanisms: the free step first
  • Ask where the investigation stands before buying a weekly hour
  • Buy a diagnosis before a package, every time

The first is paying for topics when the problem is the spine. Chemistry is built on the mole and everything that follows from it, and that reasoning runs through energetics, kinetics, equilibrium, acid-base work and electrochemistry. A student weak on proportional reasoning and unit handling loses marks in all of those, and each loss looks like a separate topic failure. Pay for three topics in sequence and you will have taught three topics and fixed nothing, at full specialist rates, over a full term. A two-session diagnostic aimed only at the spine costs a fraction of that and answers the question.

The second is paying for mechanism teaching when the gap is recall. Students who cannot follow organic mechanisms frequently cannot name the compounds or remember what a reagent does, and no amount of mechanism explanation fixes a nomenclature gap. The cheap version of this intervention is a fortnight of daily self-testing on nomenclature and reagents, which costs nothing, followed by mechanism practice at volume. The expensive version is twelve weeks of a specialist patiently explaining mechanisms to a student who is guessing at the starting material.

The third is paying weekly for content while twenty per cent of the grade sits untouched. The scientific investigation is worth twenty-four marks and is produced over months outside lessons, with a handful of school checkpoints. It is the only component where marks can be accumulated calmly. Families nonetheless buy a weekly content hour from November and reach the school's internal deadline with no research question, at which point the cheapest marks in the course have become the most expensive. Ask where the investigation stands before agreeing any weekly arrangement.

04

The quantitative spine, and why it multiplies every other cost

  • Mass, moles and concentration conversions, automatic rather than considered
  • Proportional reasoning through a balanced equation
  • Limiting reagent and percentage yield without prompting
  • Units carried correctly through multi-step calculations
  • Logarithms for pH, rate laws and equilibrium constants at Higher Level

The spine is short to describe and expensive to ignore. It is the mole and its consequences: converting between mass, moles and concentration; reasoning proportionally through a balanced equation; handling limiting reagents and percentage yield; carrying units correctly through a multi-step calculation; and, by Higher Level, using logarithms confidently for pH, rate laws and equilibrium constants. None of it is advanced mathematics. All of it has to be automatic, because in a Paper 2 question it is the first two lines of a six-mark answer rather than the question itself.

When it is not automatic, the symptoms appear everywhere except where the cause is. A student who hesitates on concentration loses marks on a titration calculation in Reactivity 2, misreads an enthalpy cycle in Reactivity 1 because the amounts were wrong, and cannot complete an electrochemistry calculation in Reactivity 3. A parent looking at three poor topic test scores reasonably concludes there are three problems. A tutor paid by the hour to address topics will address three. The cost of that misdiagnosis is a full term at specialist rates.

The diagnostic is cheap and quick: timed calculation sets, marked for accuracy and presentation rather than discussed, across moles, concentration, unit handling and logarithms. Two sessions is usually enough to establish whether the losses share a root. If they do, the fix is short daily practice on the spine, marked twice a week, which a student can largely run alone once the routine is set. Sometimes the honest recommendation is a block of maths rather than chemistry, which is cheaper, and a chemistry tutor who says so is worth listening to on everything else.

05

Higher Level against Standard Level, priced in hours

The component weightings are identical at both levels: Paper 1 carries thirty-six per cent, Paper 2 carries forty-four, and the scientific investigation carries twenty. What differs is the content inside each topic and the length of the papers, and the honest way to express that difference to a parent is in hours rather than adjectives. Higher Level adds material in every one of the six topics, with the heaviest additions in thermodynamics, rate laws and equilibrium, and in organic mechanisms and electrochemistry.

In practice that means a Higher Level student needs more consolidation hours per topic, more calculation practice to keep the spine fluent against harder arithmetic, and a longer run-up on the mechanism work. It does not mean the investigation costs more: the criteria and the twenty-four marks are the same at both levels, which is one of the few genuine economies in the course. Nor does it mean Higher Level papers need a different kind of technique; they need the same technique applied to longer papers under more time pressure.

The table below sets the comparison out so you can plan hours rather than guess at them. The planning use is straightforward: if your child is at Higher Level and the arrangement is a single weekly hour starting in January, the arithmetic says the hours are insufficient for the content and the only sensible allocation is exam technique plus whatever the investigation still needs. Knowing that in advance is better than discovering it in April, and it may point towards a conversation with the school about level rather than towards buying more hours.

06

The investigation: twenty-four marks at the lowest cost per mark

Of all the marks in Diploma chemistry, the twenty-four in the scientific investigation are the ones most reliably earned per hour of work, because they are earned with a deadline and a plan rather than under examination conditions. They are marked against four criteria carrying six marks each: research design, data analysis, conclusion and evaluation. Twenty per cent of the final grade is settled before the student sits a single paper, which is a considerable commercial advantage to a family that treats it deliberately.

The spending pattern that captures those marks is clinics rather than weekly sessions. Place the school's internal deadline on a calendar, then four milestones backwards from it: research question agreed, data collected, analysis complete, full draft written. A session at each milestone, three to five in total, is both cheaper and more effective than a weekly hour running alongside, because the failure in this component is almost never understanding. It is that the work has no timetabled slot and therefore loses every scheduling contest it enters.

Where students typically misallocate their own hours is also worth knowing, because it tells a parent what the clinics should cover. Research design is underspent, and a vague research question caps the whole investigation regardless of what follows. Data collection is overspent, usually at the expense of uncertainty treatment within data analysis. Conclusion is often written in the final hour. Evaluation is the most underspent criterion of the four and the easiest to earn marks on with careful, specific writing about limitations and realistic improvements.

INVESTIGATION CRITERIA AND WHERE THE CHEAPEST MARKS SIT
CriterionMarksHours students typically give itCost-per-mark judgement
Research design6Too few; often settled in one rushed afternoonHigh value: a weak question caps everything downstream
Data analysis6Collection overspent, uncertainty work underspentHigh value: uncertainty treatment is learnable quickly
Conclusion6Frequently written in the final hourHigh value: cheap to improve with one clinic
Evaluation6The least time of the four criteriaHighest value: specific limitations earn marks reliably

07

Organic mechanisms: the one place the premium is defensible

Most of the rate differences in this market are about travel, scarcity or reputation rather than teaching. There is one part of Diploma chemistry where paying for a genuine specialist is defensible on teaching grounds, and that is organic mechanism work, with electrochemistry close behind. Mechanisms are not understood and then applied. They are recognised, which means the skill is built by working through a large number of examples with immediate correction until the patterns are automatic, and a tutor who has done that with many cohorts moves faster than one who has not.

The qualification on that is the recall problem described earlier. Before paying a premium for mechanism teaching, check that your child can name the compounds, draw the functional groups accurately and say what each common reagent does. If they cannot, the mechanism sessions will be spent on nomenclature at mechanism prices. A fortnight of free self-testing first changes what the paid hours are able to do, and any tutor worth their rate will tell you to do it rather than start billing immediately.

The practical shape of a mechanism block is short and closed: four to eight sessions, built on volume of worked examples with marking, with a stated finish and a self-testing routine the student can run alone afterwards. Open-ended weekly mechanism teaching at specialist rates is where a chemistry bill quietly reaches five figures across a final year. Ask for the session count and the end point before the block starts, and ask what the student will be able to do alone when it finishes.

08

What to decline to pay for, at any rate

  • A promised grade, improvement or admission: refuse at any price
  • Examiner status asserted without evidence
  • Past papers, mark schemes or syllabus documents supplied as downloads
  • Completed internal assessments, extended essays or coursework
  • Statistics without a count, a date and a method
  • Any quote where per hour or per lesson, and VAT, are left unstated

A short list, each item of which is sold to UAE families somewhere in this search. Decline to pay for a promised grade. No tutor can guarantee a 7, a grade improvement or a university place, and a provider offering one is either not serious or not honest. Decline to pay for examiner status that cannot be evidenced: being described as an IB or Cambridge examiner is a specific, checkable claim, and it should not be used to imply any access to marking, grade boundaries or paper content.

Decline to pay for syllabus documents, past papers, mark schemes or subject guides supplied as downloads. Those materials belong to the IB, Cambridge and Pearson, and reproducing or distributing them is copyright infringement; a legitimate tutor references them and links to the official source. Decline to pay for completed assessed work of any kind. At least one site ranking for these searches sells completed internal assessments to UAE families, at a price higher than months of legitimate tutoring. Submitted work that is not the student's own is a malpractice matter, and the consequence falls on the student's qualification rather than on the seller.

Decline, too, to pay for statistics without a basis. A satisfaction percentage, an average score, a star rating or a number of students served should come with a count, a date and a method, and most of the figures circulating in this market come with none of the three. On price itself, ask one plain question before paying anything: is the figure per hour or per lesson, and does it include VAT? Any provider should answer that in a sentence about their own pricing. We do not state the UAE VAT treatment of tuition fees on this page, because that requires a Federal Tax Authority citation we are not in a position to give.

09

Paying a tutor properly in Dubai, and what to ask for

Private tuition in the UAE runs on a permit, and the detail is worth holding because it makes an awkward question ordinary. The MoHRE private tuition work permit was introduced by Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023 and is granted free of charge for two years. Eligible applicants include teachers registered in government or private schools, employees in the government and private sectors, unemployed individuals, university students and school students aged 15 to 18. MoHRE's own service listing is Issuance of a New Work Permit - Private Tutor Licensing, with no fee and a stated two working days, applied for through its smart app, website and e-services system.

Individuals offering private tutoring without a permit are subject to fines and penalties outlined in the applicable laws. No fine schedule has been published: Khaleej Times reported that the ministry did not specify the fine amounts or detail the penalties, so any figure circulating in a parents' group should be treated as rumour rather than repeated. A related rule matters for the arrangement families most want: ADEK's professional-ethics rules bar Abu Dhabi private and charter school staff from paid private tuition of students enrolled at their own school, and the permit's code of conduct also bars serving students affiliated with the permit holder's own school. Treat that as press-reported and verify against the current policy document.

On the paperwork side, three things are reasonable to ask for and rarely refused. An invoice stating the number of sessions, the rate, the period covered and whether the figure is per hour or per lesson. A written statement of the cancellation and rescheduling terms, because unused sessions during mock weeks and travel are where package value leaks. And a stated policy on changing tutor, including whether a replacement costs anything. A tutoring operation with premises and staff in Dubai is a different legal animal and needs a KHDA Educational Services Permit for a training institute; IB Gram is not such an institute, holds no KHDA permit, and does not describe itself as approved by any regulator.

Starting chemistry support from The Meadows, with the bill shaped first

What to send: the level, which of the six topics the school has taught so far, where the scientific investigation stands, the most recent marked work you hold, and the time your child actually reaches home in your part of The Meadows. The last of those matters as much as the first: a slot set against the school bell rather than the bus arrival is the usual reason a weekly arrangement in this community quietly stops in October.

What we will probably recommend is a two-session spine diagnostic before any package, because in chemistry more than any other subject the losses across topics tend to share one root. If they do, the plan is short daily spine practice the student can largely run alone, marked twice a week, which is cheap. If the investigation has no research question, that becomes the first call on the budget regardless of what the topic marks look like. If the student is on Higher Level with a single weekly hour starting in the spring, we will say plainly that the hours do not reach the content and discuss what the money can actually buy.

The limits, before you book. Higher Level chemistry is among the narrowest specialist supply in this market, and in the weeks before the examined session it narrows further as demand across Dubai peaks together; where no UAE-based tutor covers the level and slot you need, the match may be an experienced Diploma chemistry specialist teaching from outside the UAE on the same live video format and the same Gulf Standard Time schedule, and you are told that in advance. No tutor will promise a grade. No tutor will produce any part of the investigation or the Extended Essay. No tutor will come to a villa in Emirates Living, because in-home visiting is not a service we sell in the UAE. No IB session dates appear here, because the IB's own site could not be verified for this project: confirm them with your school's coordinator. And nothing on this page claims approval, accreditation, licensing or partnership with the IB, KHDA, MoHRE or the Ministry of Education, because IB Gram holds none of them and runs no UAE office.

Where we tutor

What chemistry support costs and looks like across Emirates Living

These notes describe what families in each area actually buy, because the spend pattern differs across a community that looks uniform from outside.

Meadows 1 to 3

Early bus arrivals make weekday evening sessions straightforward, which keeps the spend pattern conventional: a weekly hour through Year 12, usually bought in the autumn term rather than in a panic.

Meadows 4 and 5

Later arrivals push sessions past five o'clock, and enquiries here cluster in the second term of Year 12, when the first Diploma reports land. That timing costs roughly a third more over two years than starting in the autumn.

Meadows 6 to 9

Tightest afternoon access, so weekend mornings dominate and the spend is concentrated into fewer, longer sessions. Investigation clinics work particularly well on this pattern, since the work needs blocks rather than fragments.

The Springs and The Lakes

Younger profile, with most science enquiries at IGCSE rather than Diploma level. Rates at IGCSE sit below Diploma rates across the market, which is part of why starting early is cheaper than it appears.

The Views and The Greens

Shorter school runs make earlier weekday slots genuinely available, and apartment living means fewer households driving to tutors. The spend here is more often spread across two subjects than concentrated in one.

Emirates Hills

The heaviest Diploma concentration nearby and the most Higher Level chemistry enquiries, which is also where the upper rate bands are quoted most often. Specialist scarcity rather than postcode is what drives those figures.

Al Barsha, Al Sufouh and Al Safa

Where the schools and the tuition centres sit. Centre group classes are advertised well below one-to-one rates, and the honest comparison has to include the ninety-minute round trip from this community at the afternoon peak.

Al Barsha South, Motor City and JVT

Newer campuses absorbing much of the emirate's 16,846 new places for 2026-27. Younger cohorts mean fewer established tutoring networks, so more families here arrive through search and compare rates without a local reference point.

How matching works

From first enquiry to a tutor who fits

  1. 01

Say where the investigation stands first

Research question agreed, data collected, analysis started or nothing yet. Twenty per cent of the grade and twenty-four marks sit in that component, and its status changes the right allocation of the next six weeks more than any topic mark does. Families who answer this question last are the ones who pay most.

  2. 02

Buy the spine diagnostic before any package

Two sessions of timed calculation work across moles, concentration, unit handling and logarithms, marked for accuracy rather than discussed. If the losses across topics share one root cause, which they usually do, you have just avoided a term of paying for three topics at specialist rates.

  3. 03

Match the spend to the term

Find your child's stage on the two-year profile in this page and compare it against what you are considering spending. Autumn of Year 12 buys consolidation, spine repair and investigation planning at once. Spring of Year 13 buys exam technique and nothing else, whatever the rate.

  4. 04

Fix the slot against the bus

Tell us which part of The Meadows you are in and what time your child actually walks through the door. Meadows 1 to 3 can often start at 4:15pm; Meadows 6 to 9 usually cannot before 5:30pm in term time, which is why weekend morning slots here are gone by mid-January.

  5. 05

Agree the session count and the end date

For a mechanism block or a spine block, ask for the number of sessions, the finish date and what the student will be able to do alone at the end. Open-ended specialist teaching with no end point is how a chemistry bill grows quietly across a final year without anybody deciding that it should.

  6. 06

    Ask the three paperwork questions

Is the figure per hour or per lesson, and does it include VAT? What happens to sessions missed during mock weeks and travel? And what does changing tutor cost? All three are reasonable, all three are rarely refused, and all three are where package value actually leaks.

Why families choose us

What UAE parents tell us matters most

Rates attributed, not asserted

Every AED figure here belongs to EdFlik, Tutopiya, Unitors, Bestimate, TutorChase or BartyED and was read from that provider's published material in October 2026. None is our price. Three of the competitor pages researched for this market publish no price at all and two quote in US dollars.

The travel premium explained honestly

An in-home hour costs more because of the drive, and it narrows the pool to specialists willing to spend an hour in traffic. We say that rather than describing online delivery as convenient, because at Higher Level chemistry the narrower pool is the real cost.

Diagnosis before hours

A two-session spine diagnostic before any package, because chemistry losses across topics usually share one root cause and paying for topics in sequence fixes none of them. It is the cheapest money in the subject and the step most often skipped.

The cheapest marks identified

Twenty-four marks in the scientific investigation, earned with a plan and a deadline rather than under examination pressure, and settled before the papers are sat. Clinics at four milestones capture them more cheaply than a weekly hour running alongside.

Free steps recommended first

Nomenclature and reagent self-testing before mechanism sessions. Spine practice the student runs alone, marked twice a week. Self-marking against the published scheme. A recommendation to spend more is worth more from somebody who first told you to spend nothing.

Nothing claimed that cannot be shown

No promised grades, no examiner status without evidence, no syllabus documents or past papers distributed, no statistics without a count, a date and a method. IB Gram holds no accreditation from the IB, KHDA, MoHRE or the Ministry of Education and runs no office in the UAE.

Questions parents ask

IB and IGCSE tutoring in The Meadows: your questions answered

What should a Diploma chemistry tutor cost in The Meadows, and what drives the range?+

Published Dubai rates read in October 2026 ran AED 45 to 150 an hour at the budget online end, with EdFlik at AED 45 to 65 and Tutopiya from AED 33 to 52; AED 150 to 300 for a qualified online subject tutor, with Unitors listing IB from AED 200; AED 200 to 450 and above for specialists, with TutorChase at AED 270; AED 180 to 500 for in-home visits including travel; and AED 650 at BartyED's premium end. The range is driven by travel time, specialist scarcity at Higher Level and reputation, in roughly that order. None of those figures is an IB Gram price.

Why does an in-home chemistry hour cost more if the teaching is identical?+

Because you are paying for the drive. In-home one-to-one visits including travel are quoted at AED 180 to 500 against AED 150 to 300 for a qualified online tutor, and the difference is time the tutor cannot sell to anybody else. There is a second cost that runs the wrong way: a tutor willing to reach Meadows 7 at half past four is drawn from the subset of specialists prepared to sit in traffic, which at Higher Level chemistry removes most of the people you want. The premium buys a smaller choice of tutor.

When in the two years does chemistry tutoring buy the most?+

The autumn term of Year 12, by a wide margin. The content is being taught in class so tutoring consolidates rather than rebuilds, the quantitative spine can still be repaired cheaply, and the investigation can be planned before it becomes urgent. One hour does three jobs. By the spring of Year 13 an hour can only do exam technique, yet that is when demand across Dubai peaks and rates sit at the top of their bands. The expensive hours are bought when each is worth least, which is the structural problem with spending triggered by a report.

Is stoichiometry worth paying for as a separate block?+

Usually yes, and it is the best value in the subject. The mole and its consequences run through energetics, kinetics, equilibrium, acid-base work and electrochemistry, so a student weak there loses marks in all of them and each loss looks like a different topic problem. A two-session diagnostic of timed calculation work, marked for accuracy, establishes whether the losses share a root cause. If they do, the fix is short daily practice the student can largely run alone, which is cheap. Paying for three topics in sequence instead is how a term disappears.

How many hours does the chemistry investigation actually take?+

Twenty to thirty hours across several months for most students, spread very unevenly and almost entirely outside timetabled lessons. It carries twenty-four marks and twenty per cent of the final grade, assessed against research design, data analysis, conclusion and evaluation at six marks each. The hours are not the problem; the absence of a timetabled slot is, because the work loses every scheduling contest it enters. Four dated milestones working backwards from the school's internal deadline, with a clinic at each, is both cheaper and more reliable than a weekly session running alongside.

Which chemistry marks are the cheapest to earn?+

The evaluation criterion in the scientific investigation, followed by the conclusion. Both carry six marks, both are typically written in the final hours before submission, and both reward careful specific writing about limitations and realistic improvements rather than additional laboratory work. Research design is close behind: a vague research question caps the whole investigation whatever follows it, so time spent framing it properly protects all twenty-four marks. By contrast the marks on Paper 2 extended responses are earned slowly, through practice volume, over many months.

Should we buy a monthly package or pay per session?+

A package is cheaper per hour and more expensive per hour actually taught, because unused sessions during mock weeks, exam leave and family travel rarely roll over. Published packages in this market include AED 799 a month for eight online sessions and AED 1,599 to 1,799 a month for four two-hour in-home sessions. Before comparing headline figures, ask what happens to a missed session and what the cancellation window is. Start with a short block rather than a term, and buy the diagnostic before either, so you know which component the hours are meant to serve.

Is the chemistry rate we were quoted per hour or per lesson, and is VAT in it?+

Ask the provider directly, because the answer varies and it changes the real figure by a noticeable margin across a year. Any provider should be able to say in one sentence whether their quoted number is per hour or per lesson and whether VAT is included in it. This page does not state the UAE VAT treatment of tuition fees as a fact, because that would require a Federal Tax Authority citation, and a tutoring page asserting a tax position it cannot source is doing a parent no favours. Put the question in writing and keep the answer with the invoice.

What should I refuse to pay a chemistry tutor for?+

A promised grade, improvement or university place: no tutor can deliver one and offering it is a warning rather than a selling point. Examiner status that cannot be evidenced. Syllabus documents, past papers or mark schemes supplied as downloads, which belong to the IB, Cambridge and Pearson and should be referenced and linked rather than distributed. Completed internal assessments, extended essays or coursework of any kind, which at least one site in this search sells and which puts the student's qualification at risk. And any statistic offered without a count, a date and a method.

How much more does Higher Level chemistry cost in support hours?+

The component weightings are identical: Paper 1 at thirty-six per cent, Paper 2 at forty-four and the investigation at twenty. What Higher Level adds is content inside each of the six topics, with the heaviest additions in thermodynamics, rate laws and equilibrium, and in extended organic mechanisms and electrochemistry. In practice that is three to five extra sessions on thermodynamics, a planned block on kinetics and equilibrium, and four to eight sessions of mechanism volume practice. The investigation costs the same at both levels, which is the one genuine economy in moving up.

Is organic chemistry where a specialist is genuinely worth the premium?+

Yes, with one condition attached. Mechanism work is recognised rather than understood and applied, so the skill is built by working many examples with immediate correction, and a tutor who has done that across several cohorts moves faster than one who has not. The condition is that your child can already name the compounds, draw functional groups accurately and say what common reagents do. If they cannot, the premium hours will be spent on nomenclature at mechanism prices, and a fortnight of free self-testing first changes what those paid hours can achieve.

Can a tutor supply past papers and mark schemes as part of the fee?+

No, and a tutor who offers to is creating a problem rather than solving one. Syllabus documents, past papers, mark schemes, grade-boundary tables and subject guides are the property of the IB, Cambridge and Pearson, and reproducing or distributing them is copyright infringement. A legitimate tutor references the material, cites the official page and links out to it, and works with whatever the school has legitimately provided. Your school's subject teacher and the official websites are the proper route to practice material, and in most cases the school already holds more of it than a tutor would.

What should a private tutor's invoice in Dubai actually state?+

The number of sessions, the rate, the period covered, and whether the figure is per hour or per lesson, with the VAT position stated one way or the other. Alongside it, ask for the cancellation and rescheduling terms in writing, because unused sessions during mock weeks and travel are where package value leaks, and ask what changing tutor costs. None of these requests is unusual and none is usually refused. It is also reasonable to ask whether the tutor holds the MoHRE private tuition work permit, which is granted free of charge for two years.

Do chemistry tutoring rates rise closer to the examined session?+

Availability tightens rather than list prices changing, and the effect on what a family pays is the same. Demand across Dubai peaks in the second term of the final year, specialists at Higher Level are the first to fill, and the sessions still available are at the upper end of the bands or at awkward times. The practical consequence is that negotiating power sits with the family in September and with the tutor in February. Securing a weekend morning slot in the autumn term costs nothing and is worth more than any later discount.

Can a cheaper tutor handle the calculation work and the data booklet?+

Frequently yes, and it is one of the few places where the budget band genuinely delivers. Spine work on moles, concentration, unit handling and logarithms is well-defined, markable and does not require deep knowledge of the Diploma's assessment structure, so a numerate tutor at AED 45 to 150 an hour can run it effectively provided somebody has diagnosed what to run. What the budget band generally does not deliver is knowledge of the criteria, the command terms and the investigation, which is where the specialist bands earn their difference.

What happens to our money if no Higher Level chemistry tutor is available?+

You are told before anything is paid, with the alternative named. Higher Level chemistry is among the narrowest specialist supply in this market anywhere, and it narrows further in the weeks before the examined session as demand across Dubai peaks together. Where no UAE-based tutor covers the level and the slot you need, the match may be an experienced Diploma chemistry specialist teaching from outside the UAE on the same live video format and the same Gulf Standard Time schedule. Disclosing a coverage limit before booking is the point; concealing it until after payment is the market norm.

Shape the bill before you negotiate the rate

Find out where the investigation stands, get two sessions of timed calculation work marked properly, and check your child's stage against the two-year spend profile on this page. Those three steps will do more for the total you pay than any conversation about an hourly figure. Then tell us the level, the topics taught so far and the time your child genuinely reaches home in The Meadows, and take the free 45-minute trial with the tutor who would teach the term. Lessons are one-to-one over live video on Gulf Standard Time, and if the honest answer is to spend less now, you will hear it.
