IB Maths Tutor in The Meadows

An IB maths tutor in The Meadows is usually hired in a hurry and priced by the hour, which is exactly why families here overpay. There are four Diploma maths courses, not two, and the component your money should buy depends on which one your child sits and where the marks are actually going. This page prices that decision: published Dubai rates with their sources, paper weightings, the twenty marks in the exploration, and the level change that saves more than any discount. Lessons are one-to-one over live video, and we do not visit UAE addresses.

  • Every AED figure attributed to the provider that published it, dated
  • Exploration support is feedback on the student's own work, never drafting

IB & IGCSE in The Meadows

Buying maths tutoring by the hour is how families here lose money

The usual sequence in Emirates Living runs like this. A Diploma report in January shows a 4 in Mathematics where a 6 was expected. A tutor is found through a school-gate recommendation, a rate per hour is agreed, and a weekly session begins. Four months and roughly nine thousand dirhams later the grade has moved by half a band, because the sessions worked through topics while the marks were being lost somewhere the topics never touched. Nothing in that sequence was dishonest. It was simply priced on the wrong unit.

The unit that matters in Diploma maths is the component. Your child's final grade is assembled from two or three written papers plus an internally assessed exploration worth twenty per cent at both Standard and Higher Level. At Higher Level there is a third paper worth another twenty per cent. Each of those components rewards a different thing and fails for a different reason, and an hour of tutoring aimed at one of them does almost nothing for another. Before you agree a rate, it is worth knowing which component your money is meant to buy.

There is a second piece of arithmetic specific to this subject. There are four Diploma maths courses, not two: Analysis and Approaches and Applications and Interpretation, each at Higher and Standard Level. They have different content, different papers, different calculator rules and different university consequences. A tutor who says they teach "IB maths" has told you nothing. A family paying specialist rates for Higher Level support when the right answer was a change of level is paying for the problem rather than the solution, and in this neighbourhood that happens every year.

This page is therefore written as a pricing exercise rather than a pitch. It sets out the four courses side by side, the weighting of every component, the five lettered criteria that make up the exploration's twenty marks, the published Dubai market rates with the provider and date attached to each figure, and a straightforward table of what each kind of spend can and cannot realistically address. Where the honest answer is "do not buy tutoring for this", the page says so.

IB Gram delivers all of this as one-to-one live video tuition on Gulf Standard Time. We do not send tutors to addresses in The Meadows or anywhere else in the UAE; in-home visiting is a service our India operation runs, and the in-home rates quoted on this page belong to other providers in the Dubai market, not to us. What removing the drive buys a family in Meadows 6 is access to a tutor who has taught Analysis and Approaches HL Paper 3, rather than the nearest adult who teaches maths.

At a glance

  • Four Diploma maths courses, each with its own papers and calculator rules

  • Higher Level adds a Paper 3 worth a further 20%
  • Published market rates are attributed and dated; none of them is our price
  • A level change, decided in time, saves more than any rate negotiation

IB programmes

Every IB programme stage, mapped to UAE school years

Maths support means different things along the route through a Dubai international school, and the handover points are where the cost spikes. These four stages cover almost every enquiry that reaches us from Emirates Living.

MYPAges 11-16 · Years 7-11

IB Middle Years Programme mathematics

Criterion-referenced assessment across four strands, with extended and standard mathematics streams separating in the later years. Marks come from criteria rather than percentages, which confuses parents arriving from a percentage-based system and obscures a genuine algebra gap behind a respectable criterion score. The transition into Diploma maths is where that gap becomes visible and expensive.

Emirates International School Meadows and Dubai International Academy Emirates Hills both run MYP, so a Meadows family may have one child on criteria and another on IGCSE grades in the same term. MYP extended mathematics is the usual feeder into Analysis and Approaches; students from standard mathematics who choose AA HL are the group that most often asks for help by November of Year 12.

DPAges 16-19 · Years 12-13

IB Diploma Programme mathematics

Every Diploma student takes one of four maths courses: Analysis and Approaches or Applications and Interpretation, at Higher or Standard Level. Two written papers at SL, three at HL, plus the exploration at twenty per cent. Content, calculator permissions and Paper 3 differ by course, and the choice is made in the first weeks of Year 12 with consequences that reach into university applications.

The IB carried 7 per cent of Dubai private-school enrolment in 2024-25 and Dubai's 2026-27 intake adds three further IB-curriculum schools. For a Meadows family the practical point is that the maths course is chosen on campus, often quickly, and reversing it later is a conversation with a school deadline rather than with the IB.

IGCSEAges 14-16 · Years 10-11

IGCSE and International GCSE mathematics

The route the majority of students around Emirates Living take at 16, with Cambridge 0580 tiered into Core and Extended and Pearson 4MA1 into Foundation and Higher. Two written papers, no coursework. A student finishing Extended or Higher tier with a grade 7 has the content base for Diploma SL maths; the gap to Analysis and Approaches HL is in unprompted reasoning rather than topics.

Because IGCSE and the Diploma run in different schools within a few kilometres of each other here, families comparing notes across the community often compare incomparable things. A grade 9 at IGCSE and a 7 in AA HL are not adjacent achievements, and expectations set by the former are a common reason a Year 12 student is judged to be underperforming when they are not.

AS/AAges 16-18 · Years 12-13

AS and A Level mathematics

The alternative post-16 route in the British-curriculum schools around The Meadows, with Mathematics and Further Mathematics as separate qualifications and no internally assessed component. Students choosing between A Level Maths and Analysis and Approaches HL are choosing between depth in fewer subjects and breadth across six, and the maths content overlap is substantial but the assessment style is not.

Families in Emirates Living frequently hold this decision open into the spring of Year 11, and the maths question is usually the deciding one. The honest input a tutor can give is a diagnostic view of how the student handles unscaffolded problems, because that predicts AA HL performance better than an IGCSE grade does.

Subject coverage

IB and IGCSE subjects we tutor

The four maths courses are listed first because the distinction between them is the single most consequential thing on this page. The subjects after them are the ones most often paired with maths in a Diploma timetable, where a shared tutor sometimes makes sense and sometimes does not.

Mathematics: Analysis and Approaches HL

Higher Level

Three papers at 30, 30 and 20 per cent plus the exploration at 20. Paper 1 is sat without a calculator. The content runs deep into calculus, complex numbers, proof and series, and Paper 3 sets two extended problem-solving questions that reward sustained reasoning rather than recall. This is the course that generates the most tutoring demand in Dubai and the thinnest supply of genuine specialists.

Mathematics: Analysis and Approaches SL

Standard Level

Two papers at 40 per cent each plus the exploration. Paper 1 is calculator-free, which is the detail most students underestimate: algebraic fluency has to be good enough to survive without a graphing display. Suits students who need recognisably algebraic mathematics for a university route but do not need the Higher Level content load.

Mathematics: Applications and Interpretation HL

Higher Level

Three papers at 30, 30 and 20 per cent plus the exploration, with a graphing calculator permitted throughout. Content leans into statistics, modelling, graph theory and matrices-based work, and Paper 3 sets extended data-led investigations. It is not an easier Higher Level; it is a different one, and students who move here from AA HL expecting relief are often surprised.

Mathematics: Applications and Interpretation SL

Standard Level

Two papers at 40 per cent each with a calculator permitted throughout, plus the exploration. Statistics, functions and financial modelling dominate. The common failure is treating calculator availability as a substitute for understanding: the papers ask candidates to interpret output and justify a model, which a calculator cannot do for them.

Physics HL and SL

Higher and Standard Level

The most natural pairing with Analysis and Approaches, because the algebraic manipulation, graph interpretation and unit handling transfer directly. A tutor comfortable in both can genuinely save a family money. The limit is the scientific investigation, which has its own criteria and needs someone who has supervised one.

Chemistry HL and SL

Higher and Standard Level

Quantitative chemistry, energetics and equilibrium all depend on maths that a maths tutor can shore up, but the subject's grade is usually decided by organic mechanisms and the investigation, which are not maths problems. Pairing works for the calculation-heavy topics and stops there.

Economics HL and SL

Higher and Standard Level

Diagram accuracy and quantitative work at HL make the maths overlap real, particularly in elasticity and market analysis. The grade, however, sits largely in evaluation and in the internal assessment commentaries, which reward a judgement supported by evidence rather than a correct calculation.

Computer Science HL and SL

Higher and Standard Level

Algorithmic thinking, logic and complexity sit close to Applications and Interpretation content, and students strong in one are often strong in the other. The internally assessed solution is a substantial independent project with its own criteria and timeline, and it is the component that most often slips.

Business Management HL and SL

Higher and Standard Level

Financial and quantitative tools, break-even analysis and ratio work give a maths tutor something concrete to help with. Everything else in the subject, and most of the grade, is case-study analysis and the internally assessed project, which need a subject specialist rather than a mathematician.

Biology HL and SL

Higher and Standard Level

The statistical and data-handling demands have grown, and students who cannot read error bars or interpret a correlation lose marks that look like biology marks. Beyond that the subject diverges completely from maths, and sharing a tutor across the two is rarely a saving worth making.

Theory of Knowledge

Core requirement

Not a maths course, but the exhibition and essay are assessed and mathematics is one of the areas of knowledge students write about. Support means teaching how the assessment instrument works and giving feedback on the student's own argument, never supplying the argument.

The Extended Essay in mathematics

Core requirement

A 4,000-word independent research essay, supervised by the school. Choosing mathematics as the subject is harder than students expect, because a mathematically trivial question cannot earn the higher bands and an overambitious one cannot be completed. A tutor's role is process coaching and feedback; the research and the writing are the student's.

How sessions run

Tutoring formats built around UAE school timetables

Each format below is one tutor to one student over live video, and each is priced for a different component of the grade. Choosing the format is the decision that controls the bill; choosing the rate barely moves it.

Component diagnostic

Two sessions whose only purpose is to establish which component is losing the marks. A timed Paper 1 section without a calculator, a timed Paper 2 section with one, and a look at the exploration draft if there is one. The output is a written allocation of the lost marks across components, which is what every later decision should be based on.

  • Timed work under conditions, not a conversation about topics
  • Lost marks categorised by component and by cause
  • A written recommendation on where the next ten hours should go
  • Explicit statement where the answer is a level change rather than tutoring

Weekly course support

One session a week through Year 12 and into Year 13, working alongside the school's teaching order rather than ahead of it. This is the cheapest money per mark in Diploma maths because the content is still being delivered in class, and it leaves marked timed evidence behind in time for the level decision to be made properly.

  • Same tutor and slot, set against your sub-community's bus arrival
  • Driven by the school's scheme of work and internal assessment dates
  • A short written note after each session on coverage and practice
  • Monthly review of the component allocation against the original diagnostic

Paper-specific block

A short, closed-ended run aimed at one component: calculator-free Paper 1 technique, graphing-calculator fluency for Paper 2, or Higher Level Paper 3 extended problems. Typically four to eight sessions with a fixed end date, bought when the diagnostic has shown the loss sits in one place.

  • Four to eight sessions with a stated finish, not an open arrangement
  • Built from past-paper questions on that component only
  • Marked against the published criteria, with the error log kept by question type
  • Ends with a written handover the student can revise from alone

Exploration feedback sessions

Support for the twenty-mark internally assessed exploration, delivered as teaching and feedback on the student's own work. The tutor explains the five criteria in plain language, discusses whether a proposed task carries enough mathematics, reads drafts and comments against the criteria. The student chooses the topic, does the mathematics and writes every word.

  • Criteria A to E explained with their mark allocations before drafting starts
  • Task viability checked early, when changing direction is still cheap
  • Feedback on structure, notation and reflection, never rewriting
  • Deadlines planned backwards from the school's internal submission date

What IB and IGCSE study actually looks like in The Meadows

01

Which of the four Diploma maths courses is your child actually taking?

Before any rate is discussed, settle this. Every Diploma student takes one of four maths courses: Mathematics: Analysis and Approaches at Higher or Standard Level, or Mathematics: Applications and Interpretation at Higher or Standard Level. They differ in content, in the number of papers, in whether a graphing calculator is permitted, and in what universities make of them. A tutor who describes themselves as an IB maths tutor without naming one of those four has given you no information at all, and a quote offered on that basis cannot be evaluated.

The calculator rule alone changes the work. In Analysis and Approaches, Paper 1 is sat without a calculator at both levels, which makes algebraic fluency a graded skill in its own right. In Applications and Interpretation, a graphing calculator is permitted in every paper, which shifts the examined skill towards selecting a method, interpreting output and justifying a model. A student who has spent a term rehearsing calculator-free manipulation for the wrong course has spent that term usefully in general terms and wastefully in exam terms.

The exploration is the one component common to all four. It is internally assessed, externally moderated and worth twenty per cent of the final grade at both Higher and Standard Level, and it is marked out of twenty raw marks across five lettered criteria. Those twenty marks are the largest single block of the grade available outside an examination hall, they are earned over months rather than hours, and they are also the component with the strictest rules about what help is permitted. The table below sets the four courses out side by side.

Paper by paper: where the marks are, and therefore where the money goes

A component-level view changes what a sensible tutoring plan looks like. At Standard Level, eighty per cent of the grade sits in two ninety-minute papers and twenty per cent in a document written over several months. At Higher Level the examined share is split three ways, with Paper 3 carrying twenty per cent on its own across just two extended questions in sixty minutes. Paper 3 is the component most frequently ignored by tutors and most frequently decisive for students aiming at a 6 or a 7.

Each paper fails differently. Analysis and Approaches Paper 1 punishes weak algebraic manipulation, because there is no calculator to rescue a line of working. Paper 2 punishes poor calculator technique as much as poor mathematics: students lose marks entering a function incorrectly, failing to sketch what they are solving, or quoting a display value to the wrong accuracy. Paper 3 punishes students who have only ever answered short questions, because it requires a line of reasoning sustained across a long structured problem with unfamiliar framing.

This is why an hour of generic topic revision is poor value late in the course. If the diagnostic shows that a student understands the content but is losing method marks and accuracy marks, the fix is a short technique block, not thirty weeks of teaching. If the loss sits in Paper 3, the fix is extended-problem practice with marked feedback, which is a specific and scarce skill. The table below gives the component structure and what each one repays.

03

The calculator-free paper is a separate subject

  • AA Paper 1 is calculator-free at both levels; AI permits a calculator throughout
  • A persistent Paper 1 versus Paper 2 gap means technique, not content
  • Four to six focused sessions usually beat a term of topic teaching
  • In AI, an unexplained correct answer leaves most of the marks on the table

In Analysis and Approaches, Paper 1 at both levels is sat without a calculator, and students in Dubai schools arrive at it after years of permanently available technology. The consequence is predictable and specific: candidates who can solve a problem correctly with a graphing display cannot reliably manipulate the same expression by hand, and the marks lost are not conceptual. They are arithmetic slips, abandoned surds, mishandled indices and fractions left in forms that make the next line impossible.

The fix is mechanical and cheap, which is why it is worth identifying early. Four to six sessions spent exclusively on calculator-free manipulation, with short timed sets marked for accuracy rather than understanding, typically moves more marks than a term of topic teaching. The diagnostic signal is easy for a parent to read: if your child's school marks show a consistent gap between Paper 1 and Paper 2 performance, you have found the problem and it is a technique problem.

Applications and Interpretation has the mirror-image version of this. A graphing calculator is permitted throughout, and students lose marks precisely because they assume the tool removes the need for judgement. The papers ask candidates to choose a model, interpret output and justify a conclusion in context, and a correct number with no interpretation earns a fraction of the available marks. A short block on tool use and on writing the interpretation sentence is, again, the cheapest intervention available in the course.

04

The exploration: twenty marks, five criteria, and the line a tutor does not cross

The exploration is the only part of a Diploma maths grade that is produced outside an examination hall, and it carries twenty per cent at both levels. It is marked out of twenty raw marks across five criteria, each with its own letter and allocation: presentation, mathematical communication, personal engagement, reflection and use of mathematics. Students routinely lose marks in the first four while concentrating entirely on the fifth, because nobody has explained to them that half the available marks are for how the work is presented, communicated and reflected upon.

Two failures dominate, and both are about timing rather than mathematics. The first is topic choice: a question that is mathematically trivial cannot reach the higher bands no matter how neatly it is written, and a question that is wildly overambitious cannot be completed to a standard. Deciding this in week two rather than week eight is worth several marks and several weeks. The second is reflection, which has to be woven through the work rather than appended as a paragraph at the end, and which students almost always treat as a conclusion.

The boundary on help is strict and worth stating in writing before any session is booked. A tutor may explain each criterion and its mark allocation, discuss whether a proposed task carries enough mathematics for the course, teach the mathematics the student needs, teach what good notation and reflection look like, and give feedback on a draft the student has written. A tutor may not choose the topic, perform the mathematics that appears in the report, supply the reflection, or rewrite or edit the work to completion. The qualification belongs to the student, and crossing that line risks the qualification rather than the fee.

Price per mark: the cost question families here never ask

Start at the cheapest end and work upwards, asking what each additional hundred dirhams actually buys. Budget online tutoring in Dubai is published from the low double digits an hour: EdFlik advertises AED 45 to 65 and Tutopiya from AED 33 to 52. What that money buys is a competent graduate who can answer questions on homework. What it generally does not buy is somebody who knows that Analysis and Approaches Paper 1 is calculator-free or that the exploration is marked out of twenty across five lettered criteria, and for a Diploma student those two facts are worth more than a term of homework help.

The next step up, AED 150 to 300 an hour, is where qualified subject tutors sit; Unitors publishes IGCSE from AED 150 and IB from AED 200. This is the band in which a tutor can reasonably be expected to name the components, mark timed work against published criteria and produce a written diagnostic. Above it, IB and A Level specialists are quoted at AED 200 to 450 and more, with TutorChase at AED 270 and Bestimate's Tutoring Cost Dubai 2026 table showing AED 200 to 450 and upwards for specialist exam-year support. In-home visits including travel are quoted at AED 180 to 500, on Bestimate's AED 180 to 350 band plus independent home tutors at AED 200 to 500, and the premium end runs higher still, with BartyED published at AED 650.

Monthly figures make the commitment legible. Bestimate estimates AED 240 to 600 a month for a weekly hour at the budget end, AED 600 to 1,200 for mid-range, and AED 1,000 to 2,000 or more for specialist exam-year support, while published packages in this market include AED 799 a month for eight online sessions and AED 1,599 to 1,799 a month for four two-hour in-home sessions. Every figure here belongs to the named provider and was read from its published material in October 2026. None is an IB Gram price: we offer a free trial lesson and a consultation instead of a rate card, because the course, the component and the number of weeks change the answer entirely. The table below maps spend to the marks it can realistically address.

06

The level change that saves more than any discount

  • Four courses, so a change of emphasis is available without dropping a level
  • The deadline for a change is set by the school, not by the IB
  • Two diagnostic sessions on unscaffolded problems usually settle the question
  • Check each university programme's own published requirement before assuming HL

The most expensive mistake in Diploma maths is not an hourly rate. It is a student sitting a course that was never the right fit, supported by increasing quantities of tutoring that are buying ground rather than gaining it. Analysis and Approaches Higher Level is the usual case. A student arrives from a strong IGCSE grade, chooses it because the engineering ambition seemed to require it, and spends Year 12 at a 3 while a family in Meadows 5 spends AED 1,200 a month holding the line.

The alternatives are real and they are not failure. Analysis and Approaches Standard Level keeps the algebraic character of the course with a far lower content load. Applications and Interpretation Higher Level keeps a Higher Level on the transcript with a different content emphasis, which suits data-facing degrees. Applications and Interpretation Standard Level is the right answer for a number of students who took AA SL because somebody told them it looked better. In every case the change has to go through the school, has a deadline set by the school rather than by the IB, and gets harder the longer it is left.

The honest input a tutor can give here is diagnostic rather than commercial, and it is worth noticing that the incentive runs the other way. Two sessions of unscaffolded problem work will tell you whether a student is struggling with the content of the course or with the course itself. If it is the course, say so and act early. The money saved by a well-timed level change is measured in thousands of dirhams and a far better final grade, and no rate negotiation in this market comes close to it. University prerequisites should be checked on each programme's own published entry requirements rather than assumed, because the assumption that Higher Level is always required is the belief that keeps students in the wrong course.

07

Mock season and the predicted grade: the weeks that decide university offers

For a Diploma student the mock examinations are not a rehearsal. They are, in most schools, the main evidence base for the predicted grade that goes out with university applications, and a predicted grade sets which offers are available long before a final result exists. That makes the autumn and winter of Year 13 the highest-leverage weeks in the two-year programme, and it makes work scheduled into them qualitatively different from work scheduled in the spring.

The planning consequence runs backwards. If predicted grades are formed on mock performance, then the term before the mocks is the term in which tutoring changes an offer, and the term after them is the term in which tutoring changes a final grade. Those are different objectives and they justify different spending. Families in Emirates Living who start in January of Year 13 are buying the second one and assuming they have bought the first, which is the single most common misallocation we see in Diploma maths.

Exact dates belong to your child's school rather than to this page. Mock windows, internal deadlines for the exploration and the Extended Essay, and the school's own deadline for predicted grades are all set on campus, and the IB's published session dates should be confirmed against ibo.org or with the school's IB coordinator before anything is planned around them. What is safe to say is the shape: the examined session UAE schools sit is the May one, the internal deadlines land months earlier, and the mocks sit earlier still. Ask the coordinator for all three dates in one email at the start of Year 13 and plan from that, not from a tutor's calendar.

08

What tutoring cannot buy, and what to do about those gaps instead

  • Reading the question: a routine, demonstrated once, then enforced at home
  • Writing method: self-marking against the published scheme, twice a week
  • Exam pace: full papers at home under a timer, marked by the tutor
  • Ask any tutor what they would tell you to do for free; the answer is informative

Three common problems in Diploma maths are not maths problems, and paying maths rates to solve them is poor value. The first is reading the question. A student who consistently answers an adjacent question, or who misses a condition stated in the stem, is losing marks to a comprehension habit. It is fixable, often quickly, but the fix is a rehearsed reading routine applied to every question, which a parent can enforce at home for nothing once a tutor has demonstrated it.

The second is writing method down. Diploma mark schemes allocate method marks, and a student who writes only answers forfeits them even when the thinking was correct. This is behavioural rather than conceptual, and it responds to short, frequent, marked practice with the mark scheme visible. Paying a specialist AED 300 an hour to repeat the instruction weekly is expensive; having the student self-mark five questions against the published scheme twice a week is free and works better.

The third is exam timing. Students who leave a fifth of a paper unattempted are not short of knowledge; they are short of pace, and pace comes from sitting full papers under timed conditions, which schools do too rarely. The useful tutoring contribution is to mark those papers properly and categorise the losses. The sitting itself can happen at a kitchen table in The Meadows on a Saturday morning with a timer, and it costs nothing at all. A tutor who tells you this is giving you better value than one who sells you the hour.

09

Paying a tutor properly in Dubai, and the equivalency question behind it

Private tutoring in the UAE operates on a permit. The MoHRE private tuition work permit was introduced by Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023 and is granted free of charge for two years, with eligible applicants including teachers registered in government or private schools, employees in the government and private sectors, unemployed individuals, university students and school students aged 15 to 18. MoHRE's own service is listed as Issuance of a New Work Permit - Private Tutor Licensing, with no fee and a stated two working days, applied for through its smart app, website and e-services system. Individuals tutoring without a permit are subject to fines and penalties under the applicable laws, and no fine schedule has been published, so any amount circulating in a parents' group is rumour.

A second rule constrains the arrangement families most want. Abu Dhabi's ADEK professional-ethics rules prohibit private and charter school staff from giving paid private tuition to students enrolled at their own school, and the MoHRE permit's code of conduct also bars serving students affiliated with the permit holder's own school. Treat that as press-reported and verify against the current policy document, but do not plan around hiring your child's own maths teacher. A specialist who has taught the same course elsewhere brings the same knowledge without the conflict.

The equivalency question arrives later and is worth knowing early. For Ministry of Education certificate equivalency on the British track, reporting in July 2026 set the requirement at five accredited GCSE or IGCSE subjects at no less than grade E or 3, excluding Arabic and Islamic education, plus one A Level at grade E or two AS Levels at the same grade. For the American track, English proficiency is set at IELTS academic 5, TOEFL iBT 61 or 450 in the SAT reading and writing section, with at least 450 in SAT Math. That reporting states no IB points threshold, so none is published here: verify any IB figure on moe.gov.ae or with your emirate's attestation authority. Equivalency is a Ministry process, not something a tutoring service performs or guarantees, and tutoring is not required for it.

Starting maths support from The Meadows, with the costs stated first

The first thing we will ask is which of the four courses your child sits and at which level, followed by the most recent marked evidence you have: a school assessment, a mock paper, an exploration draft. The second is what time a session can realistically start given which part of The Meadows you live in, because a Meadows 7 bus arriving at 4:20pm makes a 4:30pm slot a fiction. Then a free 45-minute trial with the tutor who would actually teach, not a consultant, and no card details are required to book it.

Our recommendation will sometimes be to spend less rather than more. If the diagnostic shows the loss is calculator-free technique, we will say four to six sessions and a stop date rather than a term. If it shows the student is in the wrong course, we will say so and suggest you take that to the school before buying anything. If the issue is exam pace, we will tell you to sit papers at home under a timer and pay us only to mark them. None of that is generosity; it is what makes the recommendation worth listening to on the occasions when it is to spend more.

The limits, stated before you book. Availability for Analysis and Approaches Higher Level and for Paper 3 preparation is the thinnest in this subject, and in the weeks before the May session it thins further because demand across Dubai peaks at once; where no UAE-based tutor covers the course and slot, the match may be an experienced Diploma maths specialist teaching from elsewhere on the same live video format and the same Gulf Standard Time slot, and we say so in advance. No tutor will promise a grade. No tutor will produce any part of the exploration. No tutor will come to a villa in Emirates Living, because in-home visiting is not a service we sell in the UAE. And nothing here claims approval, accreditation or partnership with the IB, KHDA, the Ministry of Education or MoHRE, because IB Gram holds none and describing a tutor as an IB examiner without evidence is a claim we do not make.

Where we tutor

Diploma maths demand across The Meadows and the communities next to it

Each note below describes what the maths enquiries from that area actually look like, because the course mix and the session pattern differ more than the distances suggest.

Meadows 1, 2 and 3

The earliest bus arrivals in the community, so late-afternoon slots are workable. Enquiries here skew towards Standard Level courses and towards fortnightly maintenance sessions rather than exam-term intensives.

Meadows 4 and 5

Longest internal bus loop, with arrivals commonly past four o'clock. Demand is concentrated in the Year 12 autumn term, which is when the Analysis and Approaches Higher Level decision starts to look like a mistake or not.

Meadows 6, 7, 8 and 9

Nearest the Emirates Hills boundary and the tightest afternoon access. Weekend morning sessions are disproportionately popular here, and Saturday nine o'clock is the slot that gets booked first every January.

The Springs and The Lakes

Shared buses and shared school allocations with The Meadows, but a younger enquiry profile. Most maths requests from here concern MYP criteria and the IGCSE tier decision rather than Diploma papers.

Emirates Hills

Dominated by Diploma families, with a higher share of Higher Level maths and of exploration support than anywhere else nearby. Also where requests for Paper 3 preparation, which almost nobody offers properly, are concentrated.

The Views and The Greens

Apartment living across Sheikh Zayed Road with shorter school runs, so earlier weekday slots are genuinely available. Enquiries cluster around Applications and Interpretation and around students who changed course after the first term.

Al Barsha, Al Sufouh and Al Safa

Where most of the schools and all of the local tuition centres sit. A centre-based maths plan from The Meadows costs an evening per session once the four o'clock traffic is counted in both directions.

Dubai Marina, JLT and Al Sufouh towers

The densest population of private tutors within reach, and where the highest local rates are quoted. Families from Emirates Living who drive here for maths sessions are paying twice: once in fees and once in the commute.

How matching works

From first enquiry to a tutor who fits

  1. 01

Name the course, not the subject

Tell us whether it is Analysis and Approaches or Applications and Interpretation, and whether it is Higher or Standard Level. Those four combinations have different papers, different calculator rules and different Paper 3 situations. A quote given without that information cannot be compared against anything, and a tutor who does not ask is not reading the assessment.

  2. 02

Send the most recent marked evidence

A school assessment with marks, a mock paper, a returned past paper, or an exploration draft. Marks out of a known total are worth more than any description of how the term has gone, because they let a tutor allocate the loss across components before the first session rather than after the fifth.

  3. 03

Buy the diagnostic before the package

Two sessions that produce a written allocation of lost marks by component and cause, plus a recommendation on where the next ten hours should go. This is the cheapest money in the subject and the step most often skipped, because it feels like a delay before the help starts rather than the thing that aims it.

  4. 04

Choose the component, then the format

Calculator-free technique, graphing-calculator fluency, Paper 3 extended problems and exploration feedback are four different purchases with different session counts and end dates. Deciding which one you are buying controls the total bill far more than negotiating the hourly rate ever will.

  5. 05

    Review against the diagnostic monthly

Once a month, compare the error log against the original component allocation. If a named loss has not moved in four weeks, change the method or the tutor. Agreeing that trigger before the first invoice converts a difficult conversation into an administrative one, and avoids the term-long drift that costs more than any rate.

  6. 06

Get the three school dates in one email

Ask the IB coordinator for the mock window, the internal exploration and Extended Essay deadlines, and the school's own deadline for predicted grades. Those three dates determine what tutoring is for in each term. Session dates for the examined session should be confirmed with the coordinator or on ibo.org, not taken from a tutor.

Why families choose us

What UAE parents tell us matters most

Priced by component, not by the hour

The plan starts from which component is losing marks, because an hour aimed at Paper 1 technique does almost nothing for Paper 3 or for the exploration. That is the difference between tutoring that moves a grade and tutoring that fills a weekly slot with competent teaching.

Every rate attributed and dated

The AED bands on this page belong to EdFlik, Tutopiya, Unitors, Bestimate, TutorChase and BartyED, read from their own published material in October 2026. Three of the six competitor pages researched for this market publish no price at all, and two quote in US dollars.

We will tell you to spend less

Where the fix is a short technique block, a level change or sitting timed papers at a kitchen table for nothing, we say so. A recommendation to spend more is only worth hearing from somebody who has previously recommended spending less.

The exploration boundary in writing

A tutor explains the five criteria, teaches the mathematics and gives feedback on drafts. The student chooses the task, does the mathematics and writes every word submitted. That line is published because the opposite is openly sold in this market and it is the student's qualification at stake.

Paper 3 taken seriously

Twenty per cent of a Higher Level grade sits in two extended questions in sixty minutes, and almost nobody prepares for it specifically. Where a tutor with that experience is not available at the time you need, we tell you before you book rather than after.

No borrowed credibility

No IB session dates are published here, because the IB's own site could not be verified for this project; confirm them with your coordinator. No tutor is described as an IB examiner without evidence. IB Gram holds no accreditation from the IB, KHDA, MoHRE or the Ministry of Education and runs no UAE office.

Questions parents ask

IB and IGCSE tutoring in The Meadows: your questions answered

How do I tell which of the four Diploma maths courses my child is taking?+

Ask the school for the subject title in full, which will be either Mathematics: Analysis and Approaches or Mathematics: Applications and Interpretation, plus the level. The distinction matters because it sets the calculator rules, the content and whether a Paper 3 is sat. Analysis and Approaches sits Paper 1 without a calculator at both levels; Applications and Interpretation permits a graphing calculator in every paper. Higher Level in both courses adds a Paper 3 worth twenty per cent. A tutor who offers a quote without asking which of the four applies is not reading the assessment your child faces.

Is Paper 3 worth paying for separately at Higher Level?+

It carries twenty per cent of the Higher Level grade across two extended questions in sixty minutes, and it is the component tutors most often skip. If a student is losing marks there specifically, a short block of extended-problem practice with marked feedback is one of the better-value purchases in the course, because the skill, sustaining a line of reasoning through an unfamiliar problem, is not built by answering short questions. At Standard Level the question does not arise, since Paper 3 is not sat. The diagnostic should tell you which situation you are in before you buy anything.

Why does my child score well on Paper 2 and badly on Paper 1?+

In Analysis and Approaches that pattern almost always means technique rather than content, because Paper 1 is sat without a calculator and Paper 2 is not. Students in Dubai schools have had technology available throughout, so manipulation by hand is the skill that atrophies: surds, indices, fractions and algebraic rearrangement. The fix is mechanical and cheap, typically four to six sessions of short timed sets marked for accuracy rather than understanding. A consistent gap between the two papers in school marks is the clearest diagnostic signal available to a parent, and it points at a cheap intervention.

What are the five criteria for the maths exploration and what are they worth?+

Presentation carries four marks, mathematical communication four, personal engagement three, reflection three and use of mathematics six, giving twenty raw marks in total and twenty per cent of the final grade at both Higher and Standard Level. Students typically concentrate entirely on the mathematics and lose marks across the other four criteria, which between them carry fourteen of the twenty. Notation and defined variables are marked. Reflection must run through the work rather than sit at the end. Knowing the allocation before drafting starts is worth more than any amount of later polishing.

What kind of exploration help stays inside the IB academic honesty rules?+

Yes, inside a boundary that should be written down first. A tutor may explain each criterion and its marks, discuss whether a proposed task carries enough mathematics for the course, teach the mathematics required, show what good notation and genuine reflection look like, and give feedback on a draft the student has written. A tutor may not choose the topic, perform the mathematics that appears in the report, supply the reflection, or edit the work to completion. The qualification belongs to the student, and crossing that line puts the qualification at risk rather than the fee.

What should a Diploma maths tutor cost per hour in Dubai right now?+

Published rates read in October 2026 ran roughly AED 45 to 150 an hour at the budget online end, with EdFlik at AED 45 to 65 and Tutopiya from AED 33 to 52; AED 150 to 300 for a qualified online subject tutor, with Unitors listing IB from AED 200; AED 200 to 450 and above for specialists, with TutorChase at AED 270; and AED 180 to 500 for in-home visits including travel. BartyED is published at AED 650 at the premium end. None of those is an IB Gram price. We publish a free trial lesson and a consultation instead, because the course and the component change the answer.

Is Applications and Interpretation an easier course than Analysis and Approaches?+

It is a different course, not a lighter one, and students who move expecting relief are often surprised. Applications and Interpretation emphasises statistics, modelling and interpretation with a graphing calculator permitted throughout, and its papers ask candidates to choose a model, read output and justify a conclusion in context. A correct number with no interpretation scores a fraction of the marks available. Analysis and Approaches emphasises algebraic method, calculus and proof, and sits Paper 1 without a calculator. Which is harder depends entirely on the student; which is right depends on the university route they intend.

Can my child change maths course or level after starting Year 12?+

Often yes, and the deadline is set by the school rather than by the IB, which is why acting early matters more than anything else about it. There are four courses, so a change of emphasis is available without necessarily dropping a level: Analysis and Approaches Higher Level to Applications and Interpretation Higher Level keeps a Higher Level on the transcript. Two diagnostic sessions on unscaffolded problems usually settle whether the difficulty is the content or the course. If it is the course, the money saved by a timely change exceeds anything a rate negotiation can achieve.

Does my child need Analysis and Approaches Higher Level for engineering?+

Check the published entry requirements for each specific programme rather than assuming, because the assumption is what keeps students in a course that is not working for them. Quantitative degrees commonly list Analysis and Approaches, and some list a Higher Level requirement, but the detail varies by university, by country and by programme, and several routes accept Applications and Interpretation. Each university publishes its own requirements and those are the only reliable source. A tutor stating a requirement from memory is guessing, and in this market that guess has kept a lot of students in the wrong course.

How much maths tutoring does a Diploma student in Emirates Living usually need?+

It depends entirely on which component is losing marks, which is the argument for buying a diagnostic first. A Year 12 student drifting on content typically needs one weekly hour through the year. A Year 13 student losing method and accuracy marks often needs four to six focused sessions and a stop date, not a term. Exploration support is usually three to five sessions spread across the drafting period. Paper 3 work is a short block of extended problems. Buying a package of hours before knowing which of those applies is how families here end up paying for the wrong thing competently delivered.

Why do mock examinations matter more than the final mocks suggest?+

In most schools they are the main evidence base for the predicted grade sent with university applications, which means they help determine which offers exist long before a final result does. That makes the term before the mocks the one in which tutoring can change an offer, and the term after them the one in which it can change a final grade. Those are different objectives with different price tags. Families who begin in the January of Year 13 are generally buying the second while believing they bought the first, which is the most common misallocation we see.

Can we sit timed papers at home instead of paying for the session?+

Yes, and you should. Exam pace is built by sitting full papers under timed conditions, and that can happen at a kitchen table in The Meadows on a Saturday morning with a timer and a printed paper at no cost. The part worth paying for is the marking: proper marking against the published scheme, with losses categorised by cause, is what turns a score into a plan. A tutor who suggests this arrangement rather than selling you the sitting is giving you better value, and it is a reasonable thing to ask for directly.

Will you publish the IB exam dates for the next session?+

No, and the reason is worth stating. The IB's own site could not be verified by automated checking for this project, so no session or results date in this set is confirmed from the IB itself. Secondary sources circulate dates that look plausible and are sometimes wrong, and planning a revision programme around a wrong date is worse than planning around none. Ask your school's IB coordinator for the session window, the internal deadlines and the school's predicted-grade deadline in one email, or confirm on ibo.org. UAE schools sit the May session; that much is safe to plan around.

Does a maths tutor working with Dubai families need a permit?+

Yes. Private tuition in the UAE operates under the MoHRE private tutor work permit introduced by Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023, granted free of charge for two years, and covering registered teachers, government and private-sector employees, unemployed residents, university students and school students aged 15 to 18. The official service is Issuance of a New Work Permit - Private Tutor Licensing, listed with no fee and two working days. Individuals tutoring without a permit face fines and penalties under the applicable laws; no fine schedule is published, so quoted amounts are rumour. Asking about the permit is an ordinary question.

Is there an IB points requirement for Ministry of Education equivalency?+

Not one that can be responsibly published here. The July 2026 reporting that sets out the British and American track requirements states no IB points threshold, so any figure quoted elsewhere is unsourced as far as this project is concerned. On the British track the requirement is five accredited GCSE or IGCSE subjects at no less than grade E or 3, excluding Arabic and Islamic education, plus one A Level at E or two AS Levels at E. Verify any IB figure on moe.gov.ae or with your emirate's attestation authority. Equivalency is a Ministry process and tutoring is not required for it.

What if no Analysis and Approaches Higher Level specialist is free when we need one?+

You are told before booking rather than after, with the alternative named. Higher Level Analysis and Approaches and Paper 3 preparation are the thinnest parts of this subject's supply anywhere, and in the weeks before the May session they thin further because demand across Dubai peaks simultaneously. Where no UAE-based tutor covers the course at the slot you need, the match may be an experienced Diploma maths specialist teaching from outside the UAE on the same live video format and the same Gulf Standard Time schedule. Disclosing a coverage limit up front is the point; concealing it until after payment is the market norm.
