IB Private Tuition in the UAE

IB private tuition in the UAE sits inside a system with rules: a federal work permit for the tutor, an emirate authority that licensed your child's school, Ministry subjects that run beside the Diploma, and an equivalency file that decides what the certificate is worth here. This page explains that system, then explains ours. IB Gram matches your child to one subject specialist and teaches live online, timed to Gulf Standard Time. We do not send tutors to UAE addresses, because home visits are a service we run only in India.

  • Every session is one-to-one and live, never a recorded class
  • You are told where your child's tutor is based before booking
  • The first lesson is free and needs no card details to book
  • Timetabling runs on Gulf Standard Time, Ramadan evenings included

IB & IGCSE in the UAE

Private tuition is a regulated arrangement here, not an informal favour

Most families start looking for IB private tuition in the UAE in the week after a report card. The search is usually about one subject, because Chemistry HL has slipped from a 5 to a 4 or Mathematics has stopped making sense. The arrangement you are about to enter, though, has a legal and administrative shape that nobody at the school will walk you through. Knowing that shape before you pay anyone changes the questions you ask, and it changes which providers survive those questions.

Three separate systems meet inside a single private tuition arrangement. The first is federal: private tutoring runs on a work permit introduced by Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023 through the Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation, and u.ae states that individuals offering private tutoring without that permit are subject to fines and penalties outlined in the applicable laws. The second is the emirate. Whoever licensed your child's school, whether that is KHDA in Dubai, ADEK in Abu Dhabi and Al Ain, the Sharjah Private Education Authority, the Department of Knowledge in Ras Al Khaimah or the federal Ministry of Education in Ajman, Umm Al Quwain and Fujairah, also decides what else your child must study, and in two emirates approves the curriculum and the fees as well. The third is the IB itself, whose academic-honesty rules fix how close any tutor may come to an Internal Assessment.

None of that makes private tuition hard to buy. It makes it checkable. A tutor who holds the permit can say so and name the category it was issued under. A provider with premises in Dubai can produce an Educational Services Permit number from the training-institute route. A platform teaching from outside the country can say that in one sentence instead of routing a UAE parent to a foreign dialling code. The providers that fail those three questions tend to be the same ones quoting a price in US dollars and showing a star rating nobody can trace to a countable review.

IB Gram works to one model in the UAE. A parent describes the subject, the level and the deadline; we match one subject specialist; lessons run one-to-one over live video on Gulf Standard Time. Nobody travels to a UAE address, and we state that on every country page we publish, because implying a visit we do not make is the most common misrepresentation in this market. What a Dubai or Sharjah family gets instead is a tutor chosen for the syllabus rather than for the driving distance: a Physics HL specialist who has taught the current assessment model, not whoever happens to cover your community on a Tuesday evening.

The rest of this page is the system, laid out in the order it affects you. Who may legally give private tuition. Who licensed the school. What the Dubai market looks like in numbers. What the market charges by the month. What information you should hand over at enquiry and what you should keep back. Which teaching material may properly change hands. The Ministry subjects that run beside the Diploma. The equivalency file your child will eventually need. And the exam calendar that decides whether tuition is already running or still being arranged.

IB programmes

Every IB programme stage, mapped to UAE school years

IB Gram covers the IB programmes a UAE private school is likely to run. Each one meets the emirate regulator differently, because the licence that permits the programme carries the Ministry-subject requirement with it, and that is usually where a private tuition plan has to make room in an already full week.

PYPAges 3-12 · FS1 to Year 6

Primary Years Programme

Transdisciplinary units built around six subject areas, with the exhibition in the final year as the first piece of extended independent work a child produces. There are no external exams, so progress is read from the school's own reporting against the learner profile and the unit objectives. Private tuition at this stage is almost always about reading fluency, number sense or written English, and the useful version is short, frequent and tied to the unit the class is on.

In a Dubai private school the Ministry subjects start here, not at secondary. Arabic, Islamic Education and Social Studies sit in the timetable from the primary years, with separate classes for Arab and non-Arab students, so a parent arranging Arabic support needs to know which stream their child is in before anyone quotes an hourly rate.

MYPAges 11-16 · Years 7-11

Middle Years Programme

Eight subject groups assessed against four published criteria, each marked out of 8, which is why an MYP report reads nothing like an IGCSE one. A student can hold a 6 in a criterion and a 3 in the one next to it, and the average hides the problem. The Personal Project in the final year is the first assessed independent task with a real supervision process attached to it.

The MYP route into DP1 is where UAE families most often arrive at private tuition, because criterion marks do not convert into a predicted Diploma grade and nobody tells a parent that until October of DP1. Two of the three new IB schools opening in Dubai for 2026-27 add more MYP cohorts to an already small specialist pool.

DPAges 16-19 · Years 12-13

Diploma Programme

Six subjects, three at Higher Level and three at Standard Level, plus Theory of Knowledge, the Extended Essay and CAS, marked out of 45 points in total. Every subject carries an internally assessed component alongside the written papers, and the internal work is set by the school's own calendar rather than the exam board's. The May session is the one UAE schools sit, with November available for retakes at some centres.

The IB accounted for a 7% share of Dubai's private-school roll in 2024-25, the smallest of the four main curricula in the emirate, which is exactly why a Higher Level specialist is harder to find locally than an A-Level or CBSE one. It is also the programme whose equivalency position a UAE family should check on moe.gov.ae early rather than in Year 13.

CPAges 16-19 · Years 12-13

Career-related Programme

A smaller set of DP courses taken alongside a career-related study, with personal and professional skills, service learning, language development and a reflective project making up the core. Students sit the same DP examinations in the subjects they take, so the tuition need is identical in those subjects, with the reflective project needing process supervision rather than teaching.

Far fewer UAE schools are licensed for the CP than for the DP, so check the school's own programme listing with the emirate authority before assuming it is on offer. Where it runs, the career-related study is usually delivered with a local partner institution, and tuition is sensible only in the examined DP subjects.

Subject coverage

IB and IGCSE subjects we tutor

These are the IB subjects UAE families most often arrange private tuition for, with what each one actually assesses. A request is matched on syllabus and level rather than on a general subject label, because Biology HL and Biology SL sit different papers with different weightings and the hours needed are not the same.

Mathematics: Analysis and Approaches

HL and SL

Algebraic fluency carries the whole course. HL adds Paper 3, a long problem-solving paper where marks go to students who cannot sustain an argument over several linked parts. The exploration is marked against criteria A to E for a total of 20 marks, and personal engagement and reflection are where most UAE students lose them.

Mathematics: Applications and Interpretation

HL and SL

Modelling, statistics and technology use, with the graphical calculator expected rather than optional. Students who moved from CBSE or an American system often arrive strong on computation and weak on interpretation, and the marks sit in the interpretation. Check the route against the entry requirements of the universities on your child's list before switching.

Physics

HL and SL

Mechanics and fields decide the grade, and the HL extensions are where a strong MYP student is most likely to stall. Data analysis is assessed throughout, not only in the internal work, so uncertainty handling and graph treatment need practising weekly rather than revisiting before the mock.

Chemistry

HL and SL

Organic mechanisms and energetics generate most of the tuition requests we see from UAE families. Marks are lost on precision of language, on failing to state conditions and on treating a multi-step calculation as arithmetic rather than as chemistry with units attached to every stage.

Biology

HL and SL

Content volume is the trap. Students revise breadth and get caught by command terms, because explain, outline and discuss earn different answers from identical knowledge. Statistical treatment of data in the internal work is the other recurring weakness, and it is fixable in a handful of sessions.

Economics

HL and SL

Diagram accuracy and evaluation carry the paper marks. The internally assessed commentaries need current articles with real policy content, which is where students stall first, and HL adds a quantitative paper that rewards consistent working rather than memorised definitions.

Business Management

HL and SL

Tool application separates grades: students who can place a tool against a decision score, and students who describe the tool do not. HL has a longer assessed written task, and the case-study paper needs timed practice because reading the material thoroughly is itself a timed skill.

English A: Language and Literature

HL and SL

The individual oral and the written assessments need a line of argument sustained across texts, which is a different skill from the essay writing most UAE schools teach in Year 11. HL adds the essay component, and planning time is the single most useful thing a tutor can impose.

English B

HL and SL

A language acquisition course, not a literature one, and students placed in it from an EAL background often sit at the wrong level. Productive skills carry the grade, so writing in the specified text types and speaking under timed conditions are where the sessions should go.

Arabic

A, B and ab initio

Which Arabic course a student sits depends on the stream the school placed them in, and in a Dubai private school that placement follows the KHDA requirement for separate classes for Arab and non-Arab students. A tutor has to match the stream and the school's own material rather than importing a parallel course.

How sessions run

Tutoring formats built around UAE school timetables

Three shapes of private tuition cover almost every request that reaches us from the UAE. All three run one-to-one over live video, and the choice is really about what the deadline is and whether the problem is teaching, pace or process.

A held weekly slot

One subject, one tutor, the same time each week, booked against the school's own assessment calendar rather than against a generic syllabus order. This is the version that moves a grade, because it lets a tutor see the same misconception twice and fix the cause instead of the symptom. Most UAE families start with one subject and add a second only once the first is stable.

  • Session notes shared after each lesson, in one document per subject
  • Timed questions set between sessions, marked against published criteria
  • Slots on Gulf Standard Time, including post-Iftar timing during Ramadan
  • Paused for school exam weeks rather than paid for and missed

A block before a session

Three to six weeks of concentrated work when the first paper is close and the diagnosis is already clear. The structure is fixed: a past paper under timed conditions, a marking walkthrough against the published criteria, then targeted teaching on what the paper exposed. It is the most expensive way to buy tuition per point gained, which is a reason to start earlier rather than an argument against it.

  • Two or three sessions a week instead of one
  • Papers sourced from the school or the board's own channel, never a downloadable archive
  • A written list of the topics that are still costing marks
  • An agreed stopping point, so the block does not drift into the exam week

Coursework process coaching

For the Internal Assessment, the Extended Essay, Theory of Knowledge and the Personal Project. The student is the author throughout. The tutor asks questions, points at the criterion wording, explains what a criterion is rewarding and says plainly when a plan will not reach it. Nothing is supplied as text for the student to submit, and the school supervisor stays the authority on the process.

  • Criterion wording read together, with the mark allocation stated
  • Feedback given as questions and as references to the criteria
  • The student's own supervisor and school deadlines treated as the controlling calendar
  • A written record of what was discussed, available to the school on request

What IB and IGCSE study actually looks like in the UAE

01

Who may legally give private tuition in the UAE

Private tuition in the UAE runs on a permit. The federal government introduced the private tuition work permit through Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023, and u.ae describes it as granted free of charge for two years. MoHRE's own service page is titled Issuance of a New Work Permit - Private Tutor Licensing, lists no fee, gives a two-working-day completion time, and takes applications through the MoHRE smart app, the website and the e-services system. That is the whole official process: a form, no money, two working days. Any provider telling you the paperwork is expensive or slow is describing something else.

Eligibility is broader than most parents expect. u.ae lists teachers registered in government or private schools, employees in the government and private sectors, unemployed individuals, school students aged 15 to 18, and university students among those who may apply. The permit carries a code of conduct, and this is where the detail becomes useful to a parent. Press reporting on ADEK's professional-ethics rules for private and charter school staff in Abu Dhabi describes a prohibition on teachers providing paid private tutoring to students enrolled at their own school, and says the permit's code of conduct also bars serving students affiliated with the teacher's own school. Confirm the current wording against ADEK's own policy before treating it as settled, but take the direction seriously.

What this leaves you with is a short set of questions, each of which has a specific answer. Which category was the permit issued under, since a university student and a registered schoolteacher are not the same proposition for Higher Level work. Does the employer approval the category requires exist. Does your child's own school employ this person. And treat any provider that uses an authority's name as a credential, without a permit or licence number you can read, as making a claim it has not evidenced. u.ae is explicit that individuals offering private tutoring without a permit from MoHRE are subject to fines and penalties outlined in the applicable laws, and no fine schedule is published, so anyone quoting you a figure is guessing.

02

Which authority licensed your child's school, and what else it controls

The u.ae private-schools page sets out the complete map, and it is worth reading once because the competing pages in this market do not. ADEK supervises the licensing and accreditation of private schools in Abu Dhabi. KHDA is responsible for enhancing and overseeing the quality of private education in Dubai. The Sharjah Private Education Authority regulates private education in that emirate, the Department of Knowledge does the same in Ras Al Khaimah, and the Ministry of Education plays a pivotal role in supervising private schools in the emirates of Ajman, Umm Al Quwain and Fujairah. Five bodies, seven emirates.

The difference between them is not cosmetic. Sharjah's and Ras Al Khaimah's authorities approve tuition fees, curricula, programmes, courses, activities and assessment methods, which means curriculum and fee approval sits with the emirate rather than with the school's head office. A Dubai family reading a KHDA inspection report and a Sharjah family reading an approved curriculum list are looking at different kinds of document, and advice written for one does not transfer cleanly to the other. For the three emirates under federal supervision, the reference point is the Ministry's general regulations rather than an emirate handbook.

Underneath all of it sits one federal rule that explains the mandatory subjects. Private schools are not obliged to follow a specific curriculum beyond Arabic language, social studies and Islamic studies, but must adhere to the Ministry's general regulations. That single sentence is why a school licensed for the IB still has Ministry subjects in the timetable, and why those subjects turn up in a tuition conversation that started about Chemistry. Before arranging anything, find out which authority licensed the school, what it publishes, and which of its requirements your child is currently meeting.

Dubai's private-school numbers, and what they do to tutor supply

Dubai's private school sector held 387,441 students across 227 private schools offering 17 different curricula in 2024-25, with the UK curriculum on 37% of enrolment, Indian on 26%, American on 14% and the International Baccalaureate on 7%. Those four numbers explain more about the tutoring market than any price list does. The IB is the smallest of the four main curricula in the emirate, so the pool of adults who have taught a current Diploma syllabus is correspondingly small, while the pool marketing itself as able to teach it is not.

The sector is also growing in a direction that matters. Dubai's 2026-27 intake adds seven new private schools, four UK curriculum and three International Baccalaureate, creating 16,846 new places, after six new schools opened during 2025-26 and enrolment rose 6%. Three new IB schools means three new sets of Diploma cohorts recruiting from the same thin specialist pool. On the cost side, KHDA confirmed on 22 May 2026 that there would be no increase in school fees for private schools in the emirate for 2026-27, under Dubai's second economic incentives package valued at AED 1.5 billion within a AED 2.5 billion total.

For a parent, the practical consequence is to stop treating subject tutoring as a local search. A family in Al Barsha looking for Mathematics AA Higher Level is not choosing between the specialists in Al Barsha; it is choosing between everyone who can teach that syllabus at a time the family can sit down. That is the whole argument for one-to-one online delivery, and it is why IB Gram matches on syllabus and level rather than on postcode. It also explains why the scarce skills are specific: HL Paper 3 technique and Internal Assessment process coaching, not general subject help.

Private tutor, tuition centre, platform: four arrangements, four obligations

Parents use private tuition to mean any paid help outside school, but the four common arrangements are different legal animals with different things you can ask to see. An individual tutor needs the MoHRE private tuition work permit. A tuition operation with premises and staff in Dubai needs a KHDA Educational Services Permit for a training institute, which starts with initial approval, allows a maximum of six months to complete the permit and licence steps, and requires annual renewal requested at least 30 days before expiry. Those are two separate regimes, and a provider that conflates them is worth a second question.

A matching platform is a third thing again. It introduces a tutor and takes responsibility for the match, the records and the replacement when a match fails, and the tutor's own permit position remains the tutor's. The honest version of that model tells you where the tutor is based before you book. The fourth arrangement is school-run support, which sits inside the school's own licence and is usually the cheapest option on the table, though it is group teaching by the staff whose teaching your child has already had.

IB Gram is the third kind, and says so. One-to-one lessons are delivered over live video to families across the UAE, we name the tutor and their location before the first session, and we do not operate premises in the country. Home visits are a service we run only in India. If a provider's answer to where the lessons happen is vague, that vagueness is the answer: in this market the gap between what is advertised and what is delivered usually sits exactly there, alongside a foreign phone number and a price in dollars.

What private tuition costs across the UAE market, by the month

Hourly rates make tuition look cheap, and monthly commitments are what families actually pay. Across the UAE providers reviewed for this page in October 2026, published hourly figures ran from about AED 45 at the budget online end to AED 650 for a premium named specialist, with qualified subject tutors online between roughly AED 150 and AED 300, visiting one-to-one tuition between roughly AED 180 and AED 500 including travel, and IB or IGCSE specialists between roughly AED 200 and AED 450 and above. Three of the six competitor pages reviewed published no figure at all.

Convert those to a month and the decision changes shape. A monthly online package advertised in this market at AED 799 for eight sessions works out near the middle of the qualified-tutor band. A visiting package advertised at AED 1,599 to AED 1,799 for four two-hour sessions is paying for travel inside the hourly rate. Bestimate's Tutoring Cost Dubai 2026 rate table puts a weekly one-hour arrangement at AED 240 to AED 600 a month at the budget tier, AED 600 to AED 1,200 in the middle, and AED 1,000 to AED 2,000 and above for a specialist in an exam year.

None of those are IB Gram prices, and we do not publish a rate card on a landing page because the honest number depends on subject, level and how many weeks are left. What we do publish is the structure: the first lesson is free, no card details are taken to book it, and you are told the tutor's location and subject history before it happens. Set the market numbers against the context KHDA provided on 22 May 2026, when it confirmed no school fee increase for 2026-27; tuition is the part of an education budget that is still moving.

What you hand over at enquiry, and what you should keep back

A tuition enquiry about a child is a request for personal data about a minor, and the UAE has a law about that: Federal Decree-Law No. 45 of 2021 on Personal Data Protection. The practical reading for a parent is simple. A provider should be able to say what it collects, why it needs each item, how long it keeps it and how you have it deleted. If those four answers are not available before you send anything, send less.

Most of what gets requested at first contact is not needed to run a first lesson. A subject, a level, a year group and a time zone are enough to match a tutor. A school name helps, because it tells a tutor which board and which internal calendar apply, and it is reasonable to give. A recent report, a predicted grade or a marked piece of work is genuinely useful at the point a plan is being written, which is after the free lesson rather than before it. A photograph of the child, a passport copy or an Emirates ID scan is not needed by a tutoring provider at all, and a request for one at enquiry stage deserves a direct question.

IB Gram collects the subject, the level, the school where you choose to give it, a parent contact and a time zone to schedule against. Lessons are delivered over live video, so there is no visit to arrange and no address required. Where session notes or a marked piece of work are stored, they sit in one document per subject that you can see, and you can ask for them to be removed. Ask any provider the same four questions before the first payment; the ones that answer crisply tend also to be the ones with a permit number ready.

Past papers, mark schemes and what may properly change hands

The material a tutor uses tells you most of what you need to know about them. Past papers, mark schemes, examiner reports and subject guides are copyright works owned by the board that set them, which means they are to be referenced and linked rather than redistributed. A provider advertising a downloadable archive of papers and mark schemes is advertising a copyright problem, and for unreleased material it is advertising something considerably worse. Ask instead for the tutor's own worked examples, because that is the thing they are allowed to give you and the thing that shows whether they can teach.

The second boundary is academic honesty, and it is sharper than most marketing in this market admits. An Internal Assessment, an Extended Essay, a Theory of Knowledge essay and a Personal Project must be the student's own work. A tutor teaches the skill, reads what the student has produced, asks questions about it, points at the criterion wording and says where a plan will not reach a criterion. A tutor does not supply text for submission, does not edit a piece to completion and does not hand over another student's assessed work as a template. One page ranking in this market sells completed Internal Assessments outright; that is a malpractice trigger for the student, and the risk lands on the child rather than the seller.

Say the boundary out loud before the first session and the whole arrangement gets easier. Your child's school supervisor stays the authority on the process and on the deadlines. The tutor's notes should be available to the school on request, which is both a trust signal and a sensible protection for the student if a question is ever raised. IB Gram states this in writing at the start of any coursework work and keeps a record of what was discussed in each session, for exactly that reason.

Arabic, Islamic Education and Social Studies: what the school's licence requires

Arabic, Islamic Education and Social or Moral studies are mandatory in all Dubai private schools regardless of the licensed international curriculum, and KHDA's guidance states that its requirements must be implemented by the start of the 2025-26 academic year, or April 2026 for schools whose year starts in April. This is the part of the timetable IB families most often discover late, because nothing in the Diploma documentation mentions it and nothing in a tuition advertisement does either. It is also where a surprising number of UAE students carry a weakness for years without anyone treating it as a subject problem.

The guidance is specific enough to plan around. Instructional time is calculated on a 40-minute lesson unit, schools may vary lesson length provided the total weekly time is met, and it is advised that any mandatory subject lesson is at least 25 minutes. For Arabic as a first language, Islamic Education and Social Studies, schools must organise separate classes for Arabs and non-Arabs, and combined classes for both groups are strictly prohibited because the curriculum expectations and language of instruction differ. Standard Arabic is the main language of instruction for Islamic Education for Arabs and for Arabic as a first language, and the school's licensed-curriculum language applies for non-Arabs in Islamic Education and in Moral, Social and Cultural studies.

Two further details matter for tuition. The use of any different or additional content, without prior permission from the Ministry, is strictly prohibited for these subjects, so a tutor's job is to support the school's own material rather than to import a parallel course. And schools are required to ensure that all teachers of Islamic Education and Arabic have appropriate KHDA approval to teach these subjects, which gives a parent a credential question with a precise answer. Before arranging Arabic support, find out which stream the school placed your child in, which course that stream leads to, and what the weekly time allocation currently is.

The equivalency file, and what it asks of each curriculum

At some point the certificate your child earns has to be recognised in the UAE, and that is the Ministry of Education's equivalency process. It is worth understanding early because it is a document-collection exercise, and documents are easier to collect while a child is still enrolled. IB Gram does not perform equivalency or attestation and cannot promise an outcome; what we can do is tell you where the requirements are published and when to start reading them.

For the British track, reporting on the Ministry's clarification states that students must submit proof of one accredited subject at the Advanced Level with a grade of no less than E, or two accredited subjects at the Advanced Subsidiary Level with the same grade, and must pass five accredited subjects in GCSE or IGCSE certificates with a grade of no less than E or grade 3. Arabic and Islamic education are not included among those five required subjects. That last detail is where at least one page currently ranking for these searches goes wrong, publishing a six-subject requirement; the reported rule is five accredited subjects with those two excluded from the count.

For the American track, the same reporting sets English proficiency at a score of 5 in the IELTS academic test, 61 in the TOEFL iBT, or 450 in the reading and writing section of the SAT, and mathematics at a minimum of 450 in the SAT Math test before applying. For the IB Diploma, the source we read publishes no points threshold at all, so no figure appears on this page. If a provider quotes you an IB points number for equivalency, ask which moe.gov.ae page it came from, and check it against the emirate attestation authority before you act on it.

The exam year, and when private tuition has to be running

Entry deadlines sit months before the papers, and that is the single calendar fact that changes how a family buys tuition. Cambridge International runs IGCSE, O Level and International A Level exams in a June series and a November series, with Primary and Lower Secondary Checkpoint tests in March, May and October. Its published key dates for the March 2027 series put the exam period from 3 February to 4 March 2027, with final entries due 27 November 2026, forecast grades due 27 February 2027, results on Cambridge Direct on 13 May and certificates in late June. Read that backwards and the decisions about tier and subject are being made a full term before anyone sits down in a hall.

There is a second Cambridge detail almost nobody tells parents. Every centre is allocated to one of six administrative zones, it is essential to use the correct version of the timetable for your zone, and Cambridge states that it cannot accept responsibility for candidates who miss an exam after the wrong zone timetable was used. That is why your child's paper can be on a different day from a cousin's at another school. Pearson Edexcel International GCSE exams are available in May or June and in November; the November 2026 final timetable runs from late October to 19 November 2026, June 2026 results reached centres on 19 August 2026 and students on 20 August 2026, and November 2025 results reached students on 22 January 2026. Pearson publishes provisional timetables ahead of each series, so always check the live official timetable rather than a restated date.

For the IB, the May session is the one UAE schools sit, and no IB session or results date appears on this page because none has been confirmed from the IB itself for this project. Get those dates from your school's IB coordinator or from ibo.org and write them into the plan. Then work backwards: tuition should be running by the term in which entries close, not being arranged in the term the papers start.

Why we sell this one way in the UAE

Searches for private tuition in this market usually assume a person arriving at a UAE address, and it is a fair thing to want. It is also the expensive option, because travel is priced inside the rate and paid for in the evening either way, and it narrows the choice of tutor to those within a reasonable drive of your community. For a Standard Level subject taught in many schools, that pool is adequate. For Mathematics AA Higher Level, Physics HL or a Group 1 language at Higher Level, it often is not.

IB Gram delivers one-to-one tuition to UAE families over live video, and nobody travels to a UAE address. Home visits are a service we run only in India. We say it plainly rather than leaving it to be discovered, because the alternative is the thing this market does worst: an advertisement implying a visit, and a tutor who turns out to be on a video call from another country, reached through a phone number that is not a UAE one.

The case for the online format does not rest on convenience. It rests on who ends up teaching your child. A Sharjah family gets a Chemistry HL specialist who has taught the current assessment model rather than whoever covers their community; a Fujairah family gets the same tutor as a family in Dubai Marina. Sessions move when a school assessment week lands badly, slots shift to post-Iftar timing during Ramadan, and the full hour is teaching rather than the last ten minutes of someone's drive. The table below sets the two arrangements beside each other on the checks that actually differ.

Where we tutor

Where your child's school sits, and which authority answers for it

Private tuition questions change by emirate, because the authority that licensed the school is not the same everywhere and neither is what that authority controls. Lessons reach every emirate the same way, over live video on Gulf Standard Time, so the geography below matters for the paperwork and the school calendar rather than for scheduling.

Dubai

KHDA oversees private education in the emirate and publishes the mandatory-subject guidance that fixes Arabic, Islamic Education and Social Studies in every private school timetable. It licensed 227 private schools in 2024-25 across 17 curricula, and seven more open for 2026-27.

Abu Dhabi

ADEK supervises the licensing and accreditation of private schools in the emirate and sets professional-ethics rules for private and charter school staff, including the position on teachers tutoring their own students. It is the one regulator the competing pages in this market never mention.

Al Ain

Also ADEK territory, with a smaller IB cohort than Abu Dhabi island, which makes a local Higher Level specialist genuinely scarce. Online delivery is the practical answer here rather than a preference, and UAE University admissions requirements are worth reading before subject choices are locked.

Sharjah

The Sharjah Private Education Authority regulates private education and, unlike KHDA, approves tuition fees, curricula, programmes, courses, activities and assessment methods. A tuition plan built on another emirate's assumptions can therefore miss what the school is actually approved to teach this year.

Ajman

Private schools here sit under the federal Ministry of Education, which u.ae describes as playing a pivotal role in supervising private schools in Ajman, Umm Al Quwain and Fujairah. Parents read the Ministry's general regulations rather than an emirate inspection handbook.

Ras Al Khaimah

The Department of Knowledge regulates private education and, like Sharjah, approves fees, curricula, programmes and assessment methods. The emirate appears in none of the competitor pages reviewed for this project, which is a fair indication of how little IB-specific support is marketed here.

Fujairah

Federal Ministry of Education supervision, a small private-school sector and a long drive to the nearest IB specialist. Families here are the clearest case for one-to-one online tuition, since subject match is decided by syllabus rather than by what sits within an hour's drive.

Umm Al Quwain

Also under federal Ministry of Education supervision, with the smallest private-school sector of the seven emirates. Diploma students typically travel to Sharjah or Dubai for school, which pushes any evening tuition slot later than families expect.

School ecosystem

IB and Cambridge school communities we support in the UAE

Dubai

The largest IB cluster in the country, and the one where the gap between curricula is most visible. Students we support attend schools across the emirate; a tutor is matched to the syllabus and board the school actually teaches, which is worth confirming from the school rather than assuming from its name.

  • Dubai International Academy Emirates Hills
  • GEMS World Academy Dubai
  • Dubai American Academy
  • Deira International School
  • Uptown International School
  • Greenfield International School

Abu Dhabi and Al Ain

ADEK-regulated, with a smaller Diploma cohort than Dubai and a correspondingly thinner local specialist pool at Higher Level. Students we support attend schools in both cities, and the practical constraint is usually the school run finishing late rather than tutor availability.

  • Raha International School
  • Cranleigh Abu Dhabi
  • GEMS American Academy Abu Dhabi
  • Al Bateen Academy
  • Brighton College Abu Dhabi

Sharjah and the northern emirates

A mixed curriculum picture across SPEA, the Department of Knowledge in Ras Al Khaimah and federal Ministry of Education supervision. IB provision is concentrated in a few schools, so families here most often ask for subjects their school cannot staff deeply.

  • Victoria International School of Sharjah
  • Sharjah English School
  • Ajman Academy
  • RAK Academy
  • Delhi Private School Sharjah

School names appear here as context for the UAE school system; IB Gram has no affiliation with, and claims no endorsement from, any school named.

How matching works

From first enquiry to a tutor who fits

  1. 01

Tell us the subject, the level and the deadline

One message with the subject, whether it is Higher or Standard Level, the year group and the date that matters, whether that is a mock, an Internal Assessment deadline or a session. No report card, no photograph, no identity documents. If a diagnosis is needed, it comes out of the first lesson rather than out of a form.

  2. 02

We name the tutor and say where they are based

You get the tutor's subjects, the levels they teach, their board experience and their location before anything is booked. Lessons are delivered one-to-one over live video, so the location is information rather than a constraint. Ask about permit category and current teaching; those answers should arrive in writing.

  3. 03

A free first lesson, with no card details

The first session is free, booked without card details, and run as a real lesson rather than a sales call. By the end you should know what the tutor thinks is actually wrong, which is the only useful output of a first session. If the match is not right, say so and we match someone else.

  4. 04

A written plan with your school's deadlines in it

After the first lesson you get a short plan: topics in order, how many sessions, what happens between them, and your child's own school assessment dates written into the sequence. Entry deadlines and internal coursework dates set the order, not a generic syllabus running from chapter one.

  5. 05

Notes every session, and a change of tutor when needed

Each session leaves notes in one document per subject, available to you and to the school on request. Sessions pause for school exam weeks instead of being paid for and missed. If progress stalls for three sessions, that is a match problem rather than a child problem, and changing the tutor costs nothing.

Why families choose us

What UAE parents tell us matters most

One specialist per subject

A tutor is matched to a syllabus and a level, not to a subject label. Biology HL and Biology SL are different courses with different papers and weightings, and a tutor who has taught the current assessment model is worth more than one who covers five subjects at every level.

The delivery model stated before you pay

Lessons run one-to-one over live video, on Gulf Standard Time, and nobody travels to a UAE address. Home visits are an India-only service. That sentence appears on every country page we publish, which is a low bar that much of this market still does not clear.

The coursework boundary in writing

Before any work on an Internal Assessment, Extended Essay, Theory of Knowledge essay or Personal Project, we set out what a tutor does and does not do. The student is the author; the tutor teaches, questions and points at the criteria. Session records are available to the school on request.

Numbers with a source and a date

Every AED figure on this page is attributed to the market and dated, and every regulatory statement is drawn from u.ae, KHDA's own guidance, MoHRE's service page or named reporting. Where a figure is not verified, including IB session dates, the page says so rather than filling the gap.

A timetable built on the UAE calendar

Sessions are scheduled around the school run, prayer times and Ramadan, with evening slots moved after Iftar rather than cancelled. Blocks tighten before a session and pause during school exam weeks. The calendar that controls the plan is your child's school calendar, not ours.

Questions parents ask

IB and IGCSE tutoring in the UAE: your questions answered

Is private tuition legal in the UAE, and what should a tutor be able to show me?+

It is legal and it is permitted. Private tutoring runs on a work permit introduced through Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023, applied for through MoHRE, and u.ae describes it as granted free of charge for two years. The same page states that individuals offering private tutoring without a permit from MoHRE are subject to fines and penalties outlined in the applicable laws. A tutor should be able to tell you they hold the permit and name the eligibility category it was issued under. No fine schedule is published, so treat any specific penalty figure you are quoted as unverified.

Who can apply for the UAE private tuition work permit?+

u.ae lists teachers registered in government or private schools, employees in the government and private sectors, unemployed individuals, school students aged 15 to 18, and university students among those eligible to apply. MoHRE's service page for Private Tutor Licensing lists no fee and a two-working-day completion time, with applications made through the MoHRE smart app, website or e-services system. The breadth of that list is the reason to ask which category applies to your tutor: a registered schoolteacher and a university student are both permitted to tutor, and they are not the same proposition for Higher Level Diploma work.

Can my child's own schoolteacher be paid to tutor them privately?+

Treat that as the one arrangement not to buy. Press reporting on ADEK's professional-ethics rules for private and charter school staff in Abu Dhabi describes a prohibition on teachers providing paid private tutoring to students enrolled at their own school, and notes that the MoHRE permit's code of conduct also bars serving students affiliated with the teacher's own school. Verify the current wording against ADEK's own policy document, since the detail above is press-reported rather than quoted from the policy. The underlying concern is plain enough: the person who assesses your child should not also be paid to prepare them.

What is the difference between hiring a private tutor and enrolling at a tuition centre?+

They sit under different regimes. An individual tutor needs the MoHRE private tuition work permit. An operation with premises and staff in Dubai needs a KHDA Educational Services Permit for a training institute, which begins with initial approval, allows a maximum of six months to complete the permit and licence steps, and requires annual renewal requested at least 30 days before expiry. So the questions differ: a tutor should name a permit category, a centre should give you a permit number and renewal date. A provider that cannot distinguish between the two regimes is unlikely to hold either.

Who regulates private schools in Ras Al Khaimah, Ajman and Fujairah?+

Ras Al Khaimah has its own body: the Department of Knowledge, which u.ae describes as regulating private education in the emirate and approving tuition fees, curricula, programmes, courses, activities and assessment methods. Ajman, Umm Al Quwain and Fujairah sit under the federal Ministry of Education, which u.ae says plays a pivotal role in supervising private schools in those three emirates. The practical consequence is that advice written for Dubai does not transfer cleanly. Parents in the northern emirates read the Ministry's general regulations, or the Department of Knowledge's approvals, rather than a KHDA inspection handbook.

What do monthly private tuition packages cost in the UAE?+

Monthly figures published across the UAE market in October 2026 included an online package at AED 799 for eight sessions and visiting packages at AED 1,599 to AED 1,799 for four two-hour sessions. Bestimate's Tutoring Cost Dubai 2026 rate table puts a weekly one-hour arrangement at AED 240 to AED 600 a month at the budget tier, AED 600 to AED 1,200 in the middle, and AED 1,000 to AED 2,000 and above for an exam-year specialist. Those are market figures rather than IB Gram prices. Our first lesson is free and the quote that follows depends on subject, level and weeks remaining.

Should I send my child's school report and photograph to a tutoring company?+

Not at enquiry stage. A tuition enquiry about a child is personal data about a minor, and UAE Federal Decree-Law No. 45 of 2021 on Personal Data Protection is the reason to expect four answers before you send anything: what is collected, why, how long it is kept and how it is deleted. A subject, a level, a year group and a time zone are enough to match a tutor. A report or a marked piece of work is useful when a plan is being written, which is after a first lesson. A photograph or an identity document is not needed to teach a video lesson at all.

Can a private tutor give us past papers and mark schemes to keep?+

Past papers, mark schemes, examiner reports and subject guides belong to the board that set them, so they are to be referenced and linked rather than redistributed as downloads. A tutor can work through a paper your school has provided, or one obtained from the board's own channel, and can show you how marks are awarded against published criteria. What should worry you is a provider advertising a downloadable archive, or claiming access to unreleased marking material. Ask instead for the tutor's own worked notes and examples, which they are free to share and which show whether they can actually teach the syllabus.

How much Arabic teaching time does a Dubai private school have to provide?+

KHDA's mandatory-subjects guidance calculates instructional time on a 40-minute lesson unit, allows schools to vary lesson length provided the total weekly time is met, and advises that any mandatory subject lesson runs at least 25 minutes. The subjects themselves are mandatory in all Dubai private schools regardless of the licensed international curriculum. For Arabic as a first language, Islamic Education and Social Studies, schools must organise separate classes for Arabs and non-Arabs, and combined classes are strictly prohibited. Ask the school which stream your child is in and what the current weekly allocation is before you arrange any Arabic support.

How many IGCSE subjects does the Ministry of Education count towards equivalency?+

Reporting on the Ministry's clarification states that students must pass five accredited subjects in GCSE or IGCSE certificates with a grade of no less than E or grade 3, and that Arabic and Islamic education are not included among those five required subjects. The British track also asks for one accredited subject at Advanced Level at no less than E, or two at Advanced Subsidiary Level at the same grade. At least one page currently ranking for these searches publishes a six-subject requirement instead. Check the figure on moe.gov.ae or with the emirate attestation authority before acting on anything, including this page.

Is there a published IB points requirement for UAE equivalency?+

Not in the source read for this page. The reporting that sets out the British and American track requirements states no IB points threshold, so no figure appears here. That matters because an unsourced number travels fast: if a provider quotes you an IB points requirement for equivalency, ask which moe.gov.ae page it came from and verify it with the emirate attestation authority. IB Gram does not perform equivalency or attestation and cannot promise an outcome from it. Treat tutoring and the equivalency file as two separate pieces of work, and start the paperwork while your child is still enrolled.

When is the entry deadline for a Cambridge exam series, and why is it so early?+

Far earlier than families expect. Cambridge's published key dates for the March 2027 series put the exam period from 3 February to 4 March 2027, with final entries due on 27 November 2026, forecast grades due 27 February 2027, results on Cambridge Direct on 13 May and certificates in late June. Entries close months ahead because the board has to build timetables, allocate papers and register candidates before anything is printed. For a parent the consequence is a planning rule: subject and tier decisions should be settled, and tuition already running, by the term in which entries close.

Why does my child's exam timetable differ from a cousin's at another school?+

Because Cambridge allocates every exam centre to one of six administrative zones, and the timetable differs by zone. Cambridge states that it is essential to use the correct version of the timetable for your zone, and that it cannot accept responsibility for candidates who miss an exam after the wrong zone timetable was used. Two UAE schools can therefore sit the same paper on different days. Pearson works differently again, publishing provisional timetables ahead of each series before a final one, with its November 2026 International GCSE timetable running from late October to 19 November 2026. Always work from the school's own confirmed timetable.

Can IB private tuition start in the middle of the school year?+

Yes, and most of it does. The sequence changes rather than the subject: instead of running a syllabus from the beginning, the plan starts from your child's next assessment and works outward. What limits a late start is not the calendar but the kind of help needed. Teaching a topic properly takes weeks; fixing exam technique on content a student already knows takes less. Internal coursework is the real constraint, because a school's internal deadlines are fixed and cannot be shifted to suit a tuition plan. Send us the deadline and the subject, and the free first lesson will tell you what is realistic.

How does a live online private tuition lesson actually run?+

One student, one tutor, a scheduled video session with a shared writing surface, timed on Gulf Standard Time. The tutor works through problems with your child rather than presenting slides, so you will hear questions more than explanation. Notes land in one document per subject afterwards, with the work set for the gap before the next session. You are welcome to sit in. Nothing is pre-recorded and no group joins the call. Nobody travels to a UAE address, because home visits are a service we run only in India, and the whole booked hour is therefore teaching time.

We have had two tutors who did not work out. What should we ask differently?+

Ask three questions that are answerable with facts rather than impressions. First: which papers of the current syllabus have you taught, and in which year. Second: what will you do in the first twenty minutes of the first session, since a tutor with a diagnostic plan answers immediately. Third: what does your written record after each session look like. A tutor who cannot answer the first question has subject-level knowledge rather than syllabus-level knowledge, which is the usual reason a match fails. If progress stalls for three sessions, change the tutor rather than the child's effort.

Three questions first, then the free lesson

Before you pay anyone for IB private tuition in the UAE, ask which permit category the tutor holds, where the lessons are actually delivered from, and what the provider will and will not do with an Internal Assessment. The answers take a minute and they remove most of this market's problems. When you are ready, send the subject, the level and the deadline that matters. We name a tutor, tell you where they are based, and run the first lesson free with no card details taken. It will be one-to-one and live online, on Gulf Standard Time, which is the only way we teach UAE families.
