IB DP Physics SL Home Tutor in Dubai

Looking for an IB DP physics SL home tutor in Dubai usually starts as a question about money: what is a fair hourly rate, and why does one provider quote AED 120 while the next quotes AED 450 for the same Standard Level syllabus? This page answers that in AED first, then explains the six things that move the number in this emirate. Lessons themselves run one-to-one over live video on Gulf Standard Time, so your child studies with a Physics specialist rather than whoever is free to drive to your district.

  • Published AED bands, each attributed to its market source
  • Physics Standard Level only: 150 teaching hours, two papers
  • One-to-one live video on Gulf Standard Time, evenings included

What a Physics SL tutor actually costs in Dubai, and why the quotes differ

A parent in Dubai who searches for an IB DP physics SL home tutor is almost never asking about pedagogy. They are asking what this will cost per month, whether the cheap quote is a false economy, and whether the expensive one is buying anything real. The honest answer is that the Dubai market runs from roughly AED 45 an hour at the university-student end to AED 650 an hour for a named premium tutor, and almost none of that spread is explained by the subject. It is explained by who is teaching, how long the session is, whether anyone is driving, and how close the May session is when you book.

Here is the market as it currently stands, taken from providers' own published pages. EdFlik advertises from AED 45 to 65 an hour and Tutopiya from AED 33 to 52, both at the budget online end. Unitors publishes IGCSE tuition from AED 150 an hour and IB from AED 200. TutorChase quotes around AED 270. Bestimate's Dubai rate table puts in-home one-to-one visits at AED 180 to 350, with specialist exam-year tutors at AED 200 to 450 and above. BartyED sits at AED 650. Monthly packages seen across the market include AED 799 for eight online sessions and AED 1,599 to 1,799 for four two-hour in-home sessions. Those are market figures, not IB Gram prices, and each one carries the name of the provider that published it.

Physics at Standard Level sits mid-band rather than at the top. The syllabus is 150 taught hours against 240 at Higher Level, the paper set is shorter, and the scientific investigation is the same single piece of work at both levels. That means a Standard Level brief is genuinely smaller than a Higher Level one, and a tutor pricing honestly will reflect that. A quote that charges Higher Level rates for Standard Level content is worth questioning, and so is one that quotes the same figure for Physics SL as for an English Language A paper, because the preparation load on the tutor is not the same.

What raises a Dubai quote above the band is usually logistics rather than expertise. A tutor crossing the city between Jumeirah and Mirdif at six in the evening is charging for ninety minutes of road as well as sixty minutes of physics, and that cost sits inside the hourly figure whether or not it is itemised. This is the single clearest argument for online delivery, and it is how IB Gram works everywhere in the UAE: lessons are one-to-one over live video, on your child's timetable, with no travel on anyone's invoice. IB Gram does not sell in-home visits in Dubai or anywhere else in the Emirates; home visits are a service we run only in India.

The rest of this page is built around the number. There is a table of what the Dubai market charges by provider model, a table of the six variables that move a Physics SL quote in this emirate, a breakdown of the paper weightings so you can see what you are buying time against, and a plain account of what a tutor may and may not do with a scientific investigation. Where a figure has a source, the source is named. Where a figure does not exist publicly, the page says so instead of inventing one.

At a glance

  • Standard Level Physics is 150 taught hours; Higher Level is 240, and the fee gap should reflect that
  • Paper 1 carries 36% of the grade, Paper 2 carries 44%, the scientific investigation 20%
  • Travel time sits inside an in-home hourly rate in Dubai whether or not the invoice shows it
  • Market monthly packages run from AED 799 online to AED 1,799 for in-home blocks
  • A free trial lesson comes before any payment, so the first hour costs nothing to test
IB programmes

Every IB programme stage, mapped to UAE school years

This page is about the Diploma Programme, but Dubai families rarely arrive at Physics SL from nowhere. The two programmes below it feed into it, and what a student did in MYP Sciences or IGCSE Physics changes how many paid hours Standard Level will realistically take.

DPAges 16-19 · Years 12-13

Diploma Programme

The two-year Diploma takes six subjects, three at Higher Level and three at Standard Level, plus Theory of Knowledge, the Extended Essay and CAS. Physics sits in the sciences group. At Standard Level it is 150 taught hours across five themes, assessed by two written papers and one internally marked scientific investigation. A student taking Physics SL alongside two or three Higher Levels is usually budgeting their hours, not their ability, and that is a scheduling problem a weekly session solves well.

Dubai runs the largest Diploma cohort in the UAE by a wide margin, spread across schools under KHDA inspection. Because most Dubai schools follow an August to June year, Diploma Year 2 students sit the May session, and the scientific investigation deadline normally lands in the winter term. That compresses physics revision into a window that also contains Extended Essay deadlines, which is the practical reason Dubai families book paid support in the second term rather than the first.

MYPAges 11-16 · Years 7-11

Middle Years Programme

MYP Sciences is marked against four criteria: knowing and understanding, inquiring and designing, processing and evaluating, and reflecting on the impacts of science. There are no papers in the IB sense. A student who has only ever been graded on criteria arrives at Physics SL with strong investigation instincts and no experience of a timed written paper, which is a specific and fixable gap rather than a general weakness.

Several Dubai schools run MYP to Year 11 and then move students straight into the Diploma without an IGCSE year in between. That makes the MYP to Physics SL transition sharper here than in a market where everyone sits IGCSE first. The missing piece is almost always exam technique under time pressure, so the first block of Dubai sessions for an ex-MYP student is usually spent on past-paper discipline rather than new content.

IGCSEAges 14-16 · Years 10-11

IGCSE and the British route

Most British-curriculum Dubai schools run Cambridge or Pearson IGCSE Physics to Year 11, then split students into A Level or the Diploma. An IGCSE Physics grade of 7 or above usually predicts a comfortable Standard Level start; a grade of 5 or 6 predicts a term of catching up on algebra and graph work rather than on physics concepts. Combined Science rather than separate Physics is a bigger gap and is worth naming early.

British-curriculum schools dominate Dubai enrolment, so a large share of the emirate's Physics SL students come from IGCSE rather than MYP. The practical consequence for cost is that an IGCSE-trained student usually needs fewer total hours but a more targeted brief: significant figures, uncertainty propagation and radians, none of which IGCSE required of them.

Subject coverage

IB and IGCSE subjects we tutor

A Physics SL tutor is rarely booked alone. The subjects below are the ones Dubai Diploma students most often pair with Standard Level Physics, with a note on what each actually assesses so you can tell whether one specialist can sensibly cover two briefs.

Physics

Standard Level

Five themes: space, time and motion; the particulate nature of matter; wave behaviour; fields; nuclear and quantum physics. Two written papers plus a scientific investigation. Marks leak at unit conversion, significant figures, and the difference between stating a relationship and explaining a mechanism.

Physics

Higher Level

The same five themes with additional depth and a longer paper set across 240 taught hours. Rigid-body mechanics, induction and the quantum material sit heavier here. A Higher Level brief costs more per hour in the Dubai market because the tutor pool that genuinely covers it is smaller.

Mathematics: Analysis and Approaches

HL and SL

The natural partner to Physics. Calculus, trigonometry and vectors do most of the work in mechanics and fields. Students who lose physics marks on algebraic rearrangement rather than on concepts are usually having a maths problem wearing a physics costume.

Mathematics: Applications and Interpretation

HL and SL

Statistics-weighted and modelling-led, with graphical and technology-assisted methods. A Physics SL student on Applications often needs explicit help turning a gradient into a physical quantity, because the course trains them to describe a trend rather than derive a constant.

Chemistry

HL and SL

Stoichiometry, energetics, kinetics, equilibrium, acids and bases, organic chemistry. Shares the same paper architecture and the same scientific investigation format as Physics, so a student taking both can be coached on data analysis once and apply it twice.

Biology

HL and SL

Unity and diversity, form and function, interaction and interdependence, continuity and change. Heavier on command-term precision than on calculation. Pairs with Physics SL for students heading towards engineering-adjacent or health-adjacent courses who want a broad science base.

Computer Science

HL and SL

Systems fundamentals, computational thinking, abstract data structures and a solution-development project. Dubai students who enjoy the modelling side of physics often take this instead of a third science, and the logic overlap with mechanics problem-solving is real.

Design Technology

HL and SL

Human factors, resource management, modelling and innovation, with a substantial design project. Shares the experimental-method vocabulary with Physics, which means uncertainty and reliability work done for one course transfers directly to the other.

Environmental Systems and Societies

HL and SL

An interdisciplinary course that satisfies either the sciences or the individuals and societies requirement. Dubai students who want to drop a second laboratory science but keep a quantitative subject often move here, which changes the Physics SL brief to a standalone one.

How sessions run

Tutoring formats built around UAE school timetables

Three ways Dubai families buy Physics SL support, with what each one does to the monthly figure. All three run over live video; none of them involves a tutor at a Dubai address.

Weekly one-to-one, paid per session

One sixty or ninety minute session a week, booked and paid as you go. The most common starting point for a Dubai family who wants to see whether tuition changes anything before committing to a term. No notice period, no bundle, and the cost is visible week by week.

  • Easiest to stop, which is the point of starting here
  • Sixty minutes suits one topic; ninety suits a full past paper with review
  • Session notes after each lesson so you can see what the hour bought
  • A free trial lesson comes first, before any payment

Term block booked in advance

A fixed number of sessions across a term, scheduled at the start. Market monthly packages for eight online sessions sit around AED 799, which is where the per-hour figure usually drops below the pay-as-you-go rate. The trade is flexibility: a block assumes your child's timetable holds for ten weeks.

  • Lower effective hourly rate than single sessions in most of the market
  • Fixed slot held, which matters in the four to eight evening peak
  • Suited to a full syllabus sweep rather than a single topic rescue
  • Ask what happens to unused sessions before you agree the block

Short intensive before a session or mock

A compressed run of sessions in the weeks before school mocks or the May examinations. More hours per week, fewer weeks. Dubai rates drift upward as the session approaches because specialist evening slots fill, so booking an intensive in January costs less than booking the same hours in April.

  • Paper-by-paper coverage rather than topic-by-topic teaching
  • Timed conditions from the first session, marked against the criteria
  • Best value when booked before the second term starts
  • Works around Ramadan timings, including post-Iftar slots

What IB and IGCSE study actually looks like in Dubai

What the Dubai market charges for Physics SL, by provider model

A Physics SL hour in Dubai costs between roughly AED 45 and AED 650 depending entirely on who is at the other end and how they reach your child. That spread is not a mystery and it is not a scam; it is five different products sold under one word. The table below compares the models rather than the brands, with each rate attributed to the provider that published it, because a comparison that quotes an unnamed competitor is not a comparison.

Read it from the bottom up. A university student teaching from their own notes is cheap because their preparation time is near zero and their risk of mis-teaching a topic is high. A subject specialist with Diploma teaching history costs two to four times as much because the hour is planned, the marking is done against the real criteria, and the diagnosis in week one saves hours in week six. An in-home visit costs more again, and the increment is travel, not teaching. A premium named tutor at AED 650 is buying scarcity and reputation, and whether that is worth four times the specialist rate is a judgement no page can make for you.

What matters for a Standard Level brief specifically is that the top of this range is priced for Higher Level scarcity. The pool of tutors who can teach Physics HL induction and quantum material to a confident Year 13 is small, and small pools price upward. Standard Level sits in a broader pool, so the honest place for a Physics SL quote in Dubai is the qualified-specialist band rather than the premium one. If you are being quoted premium rates for Standard Level content, ask what specifically justifies it.

The six things that move a Physics SL quote in this emirate

  • Travel: the single largest premium in a Dubai in-home rate, and avoidable
  • Session length: ninety minutes usually costs less per minute than sixty
  • Timing: evening slots in Gulf Standard Time are scarcest from February onwards
  • Level: Standard Level should sit below Higher Level in any honest quote
  • Pairing: one specialist across physics and maths beats two separate briefs
  • Format: a group of three is cheaper per student and slower per misconception

Two Dubai families can be quoted AED 180 and AED 380 for the same Standard Level syllabus in the same week and both quotes can be fair. The variables below explain almost all of the gap, and five of the six are under your control. Knowing which one is driving your number is the difference between negotiating and guessing.

The largest single factor is who is driving. An in-home rate in Dubai contains the tutor's road time, and across this city that is rarely less than forty minutes each way in the after-school window. The second is session length: a ninety-minute slot almost always costs less per minute than a sixty-minute one, because the tutor's setup and travel overhead is spread across more teaching. The third is when you book. Specialist evening slots between four and eight on Gulf Standard Time are the scarce resource in Dubai, and they are gone by February in an examination year.

The remaining three are level, pairing and format. Standard Level should price below Higher Level. A student who books Physics and Mathematics with the same specialist usually pays less in total than two separate briefs, because the diagnostic work overlaps. And a small group of two or three costs less per student than one-to-one, at the price of a shared pace, which works for syllabus coverage and badly for fixing one student's specific misconception. Online delivery removes the travel line entirely, which is why IB Gram prices a Dubai lesson the same as a Sharjah one.

What you are buying time against: the Physics SL assessment

Before you decide how many hours to buy, it helps to know what those hours have to cover. Under the science guides first assessed in 2025, IB Physics at Standard Level is assessed by two written papers and one internally marked scientific investigation. Paper 1 splits into a multiple-choice section and a data-analysis section. Paper 2 is short-answer and extended-response. The investigation is a single piece of individual research. Confirm the exact structure against the guide your child's school is teaching, because schools transitioned to the current guides on different timetables.

The weightings matter for budgeting because they tell you where an hour is worth most. Paper 1 carries 36% of the final grade and Paper 2 carries 44%, with the investigation at 20%. A family buying six hours of support is usually better served putting four of them into Paper 2 technique and two into the investigation than spreading them evenly, simply because Paper 2 is the largest single block of marks and the one where method marks are won and lost on phrasing.

The data-analysis section of Paper 1 is the part Dubai students most often underprice. It rewards a narrow, teachable skill set: reading a gradient, propagating an uncertainty, choosing a sensible number of significant figures, and saying what a y-intercept physically represents. None of that requires new content knowledge, which makes it unusually cheap to fix. A single well-run session on uncertainty treatment can move more marks than a month of re-reading the kinematics chapter, and that is the kind of calculation a published weighting table lets you make for yourself.

In-home tutoring in Dubai: what it costs and what it is actually for

In-home tuition is a real product with a real market in Dubai, and it is worth understanding properly rather than dismissing. Bestimate's rate table puts an in-home one-to-one visit at AED 180 to 350 an hour, with independent home tutors quoting AED 200 to 500. Monthly in-home blocks of four two-hour sessions are advertised at AED 1,599 to 1,799. Against an online specialist band of AED 150 to 300, the premium is somewhere between a fifth and double, depending on which end of each band you compare.

What that premium buys is presence. For a younger child who will not sit still without an adult in the room, presence is worth paying for. For a Diploma student at Standard Level, who is sixteen or seventeen and has a laptop, a screen-shared past paper and an annotated PDF is not a compromise; it is a better record of the lesson than a verbal explanation they will not remember on Friday. The thing presence cannot buy is choice. A Dubai family hiring in-home is choosing from tutors who can reach their district inside the school-run window, which in practice means a handful of people, and the one who teaches Physics SL well may not be among them.

IB Gram does not offer home visits in Dubai, Abu Dhabi or anywhere else in the UAE. Our tutors do not travel to UAE addresses, and no sentence on this site should be read as promising that. Tuition for UAE families is delivered one-to-one over live video, scheduled on Gulf Standard Time, with the specialist chosen for the syllabus rather than for the postcode. Home visits are part of our India service and nothing about them applies here. If physical presence is the thing you need, a local in-home tutor is the right purchase and this is not the right page.

05

Tutoring cost in context: Dubai school fees and the 2026-27 freeze

Tuition is a line in a household budget that already contains a school fee, and Dubai gives you an unusually clear reference point this year. KHDA confirmed on 22 May 2026 that there will be no increase in private school fees in the emirate for the 2026-27 academic year, under Dubai's second economic incentives package valued at AED 1.5 billion within a AED 2.5 billion total. For a family planning a two-year Diploma, that removes one variable from the forecast.

The scale of the market is worth knowing too. In 2024-25 Dubai had 387,441 students across 227 private schools offering 17 different curricula, with the UK curriculum the largest share of enrolment and the International Baccalaureate a smaller but growing one. For 2026-27 the emirate is adding seven new private schools, four following a UK curriculum and three offering the International Baccalaureate, creating 16,846 new places; six opened during 2025-26 and enrolment rose by six per cent. More IB places means more Diploma students competing for the same small pool of Physics specialists in the same evening slots, which is a supply story with a price consequence.

Set against that, one weekly Physics SL session at the qualified-specialist band costs roughly AED 600 to 1,200 a month, which is Bestimate's own mid-band monthly estimate for weekly one-hour sessions. An exam-year specialist on the same basis runs AED 1,000 to 2,000 and above. Those are market numbers, published by a market source, and they are the right order of magnitude to plan with. IB Gram quotes after the free trial lesson rather than publishing a fixed list, because the right number depends on how many hours your child actually needs, and nobody can know that before the first session.

The scientific investigation: what a paid tutor may and may not touch

  • Legitimate: narrowing a research question until it can generate real analysis
  • Legitimate: explaining what each assessment criterion rewards, in plain words
  • Legitimate: reading a draft and naming where the evaluation is thin
  • Not legitimate: supplying text, a method to copy, or a finished report
  • Your child's own teacher marks the investigation; a tutor has no role in that mark

Twenty per cent of the Physics SL grade comes from one internally marked piece of individual research, and it is the part of the course where paid help goes wrong most often. The rule is simple to state and easy to breach by accident: the work submitted must be the student's own, in the student's own words, and a tutor's contribution must be teaching and feedback. Anything beyond that is malpractice under IB academic-honesty rules, and the consequence falls on the student, not on the tutor.

In practice, a session on the investigation is spent on the things the student cannot easily do alone. Pressure-testing a research question until it is narrow enough to generate a real relationship rather than a demonstration of something already known. Working out whether the chosen variable range will produce a gradient worth analysing. Reading a draft and saying where the evaluation is thin, where an uncertainty has been stated but not propagated, and where a conclusion has overreached its data. Explaining what each assessment criterion is actually asking for, in plain language, because the criterion wording is written for teachers.

What a session never includes is text. A tutor does not supply sentences for the report, does not rewrite paragraphs into better English, and does not hand over a method to copy. Ask any prospective tutor what they do with a draft; the answer tells you a great deal. Providers in this market do sell finished investigation reports, at prices around AED 3,750, and buying one is an academic-integrity breach that can cost a student their Diploma. There is no version of that transaction that is worth the risk, and no page on this site will offer it.

Who may legally charge for tutoring in Dubai, and how to check

  • The MoHRE private tuition work permit is free and valid for two years
  • Introduced by Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023
  • No published fine schedule exists; treat quoted amounts as unverified
  • A centre with premises in Dubai needs a separate KHDA permit
  • Do not engage your child's own school teacher as a paid tutor

Private tutoring in the UAE is permitted and regulated, not informal. The private tuition work permit was introduced by Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023 and is issued through the Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation. It is granted free of charge for two years. Eligible applicants include teachers registered in government or private schools, employees in the government and private sectors, unemployed individuals, school students aged 15 to 18, and university students. MoHRE's own service page is titled 'Issuance of a New Work Permit - Private Tutor Licensing', lists no fee, states a two-working-day completion time, and is applied for through the MoHRE smart app, website and e-services system.

Individuals offering private tutoring without a MoHRE permit are subject to fines and penalties under the applicable laws. No fine schedule has been published, so any figure you see circulating for this should be treated as unverified. Separately, a tutoring operation with premises and staff in Dubai is a different legal entity from an individual tutor: it needs a KHDA Educational Services Permit for a training institute, with initial approval first and annual renewal requested at least thirty days before expiry. That permit applies to centres with premises, and no online platform should describe itself as holding it unless it does.

There is one more rule worth knowing, because it affects a request Dubai parents make often. In Abu Dhabi, ADEK's professional-ethics rules for private and charter school staff prohibit teachers from giving paid private tuition to students enrolled at their own school, and the MoHRE permit's code of conduct also bars serving students affiliated with the tutor's own school. Treat that as press-reported and verify it against the current policy document, but do not ask for your child's own classroom teacher as a paid tutor. It puts the teacher's position at risk and it compromises the person who marks the investigation.

08

What happens if no Physics SL specialist is free in your slot

Every tutoring platform runs out of people sometimes, and most of them conceal it. Between four and eight in the evening Gulf Standard Time, in the term before the May session, Physics specialists are the scarcest resource in this market. The honest version of what happens next is short, and it is worth having before you book rather than after.

First, we tell you the real wait rather than taking a booking and hoping. If a Physics Standard Level specialist is not free in your preferred weekday slot, the options are a different time in the same week, a weekend slot, or a named date when a slot opens. Second, if no UAE-timezone specialist covers the brief at all, we say so and name what we can offer instead: a specialist in another timezone whose schedule overlaps your evenings, with the time difference stated plainly before you decide. Third, if the honest answer is that we cannot staff it well, we say that too. A badly matched tutor costs more than no tutor, because it burns a term and convinces a student that help does not work.

This matters for cost as much as for quality. A family who books a block in April at a premium rate because nothing else is available has paid a scarcity premium that a January booking would have avoided. The practical advice for a Dubai Diploma family is to settle the physics question in the first term, when choice is wide and rates are at the bottom of the band, rather than in the last ten weeks when they are not. The free trial lesson exists so that first decision costs nothing.

Where we tutor

Areas we cover across Dubai

Dubai is wide, and a four o'clock session means something different in each part of it. The notes below describe what the district does to a weekday timetable, because scheduling is the practical constraint on paid tuition here, not distance from a tutor.

Dubai Marina

High-rise and heavily expatriate, with schools reached by a bus run that frequently returns after four. A Marina Diploma student realistically starts a Physics session at five, and a lift queue in a tower is part of the arithmetic.

Jumeirah Lakes Towers

Walkable and dense, with many Diploma families in two-bedroom apartments where a quiet study corner is scarce. Short, focused sessions work better here than a two-hour block, which is a cost consideration as much as a comfort one.

Al Barsha

Sits next to several of Dubai's larger school campuses, so the school run is short and a four-thirty start is genuinely possible. Al Barsha families are often the ones who can fit two shorter physics sessions into a week rather than one long one.

Dubai Silicon Oasis

A self-contained community with its own schools and a commute that empties early. Evening sessions here rarely slip, which matters when you are buying a fixed block of hours and cannot afford to waste one on a reschedule.

Mirdif

Villa communities with a long cross-city drive to many of the Diploma campuses. An in-home tutor serving Mirdif from the Jumeirah side is charging for that drive, which is where the AED 180 to 350 in-home band comes from.

Dubai Sports City

Academy timetables and training blocks dominate the week, so a Physics SL schedule here has to flex around fixtures. Families in Sports City are the ones most likely to want sessions moved rather than cancelled, which only works when nobody is driving.

School ecosystem

IB and Cambridge school communities we support in Dubai

Western Dubai and the Marina corridor

The cluster where most Marina, JLT and Al Barsha Diploma students study. Several of these campuses run both the Diploma and a British route to A Level, so a Year 11 cohort splits and the Physics SL group can end up small.

How matching works

From first enquiry to a tutor who fits

  1. 01

Tell us the brief in specifics

Level, school, which themes are weak, when the investigation deadline falls, and which evenings are genuinely free on Gulf Standard Time. A brief that says 'Physics SL, Theme A mechanics, investigation due February, Tuesdays and Thursdays after five' is matched in a fraction of the time a brief that says 'needs help with physics' takes.

  2. 02

    Take the free trial lesson

A full one-to-one session over live video, at no cost, before any payment. The point is diagnosis: whether the problem is physics, mathematics, exam technique or confidence. You get a written note of what the tutor found, which is useful even if you do not continue.

  3. 03

Agree the hours and the rate

After the trial you know what the brief actually is, so the quote reflects real work rather than a guess. Decide between pay-as-you-go and a term block, with the per-hour difference stated. Nothing is charged until you agree, and there is no notice period on a single session.

  4. 04

Run the weekly sessions with notes

A fixed slot, a marked past-paper component in most sessions, and a short written note afterwards saying what was covered and what the student should do before the next lesson. The note is the thing that tells you whether the money is working.

  5. 05

Review at six weeks and decide

Six weeks is long enough to see movement on marked work and short enough that stopping costs little. We look at the marked papers together, name what has shifted and what has not, and change the brief, the tutor or the frequency. Stopping is a legitimate outcome and we will say so if it is the right one.

Why families choose us

What UAE parents tell us matters most

Published AED bands with sources

Three of six ranking pages in this market publish no price at all, and the two that do quote in US dollars. This page publishes the Dubai bands in AED, names which provider published each figure, and states plainly that they are market rates rather than ours.

A Standard Level brief priced as one

Physics SL is 150 taught hours against 240 at Higher Level, with a shorter paper set. We say so, and we do not quote Higher Level rates for Standard Level content. If a provider cannot explain why their Standard Level quote sits at the premium band, that is a useful signal.

No travel on anyone's invoice

An in-home rate in Dubai contains the tutor's road time whether or not it is itemised. Lessons here are one-to-one over live video, so you pay for teaching and the specialist is chosen for the syllabus rather than for how close they live to your district.

A clear line on the investigation

Twenty per cent of the grade is internally marked individual research. We teach, review and give feedback on the student's own work, and we do not supply text or a finished report. Providers in this market sell completed reports; that is a malpractice risk carried by the student.

The free trial comes before the money

A full session at no cost, with a written diagnosis afterwards, so the decision about whether to spend anything is made with evidence. The trial has no card requirement and no obligation to continue, and the note is yours to keep either way.

Honest answers about availability

Evening slots on Gulf Standard Time are the scarce resource in Dubai from February onwards. We give you the real wait, name the alternative timezone if that is what is on offer, and tell you when we cannot staff a brief well rather than taking the booking anyway.

Questions parents ask

IB and IGCSE tutoring in Dubai: your questions answered

What should we budget per month for IB DP Physics SL support in Dubai?+

For one weekly sixty-minute session, Bestimate's Dubai rate table puts the budget band at AED 240 to 600 a month, the mid band at AED 600 to 1,200, and specialist exam-year support at AED 1,000 to 2,000 and above. Standard Level Physics usually sits in the mid band rather than the top one, because the syllabus is 150 taught hours against 240 at Higher Level. Market monthly packages of eight online sessions are advertised around AED 799. Those are market figures from published sources, not IB Gram prices; we quote after the free trial lesson, once we know how many hours the brief genuinely needs.

Why is a Physics Standard Level tutor quoted below a Higher Level one?+

Two reasons, and both are legitimate. The syllabus is smaller: 150 taught hours against 240, with less depth in rigid-body mechanics, induction and the quantum material. And the tutor pool is larger, because more people can teach Standard Level confidently than can teach Higher Level, and small pools price upward. The scientific investigation is identical at both levels, so that part of the brief costs the same. If you are quoted premium rates for Standard Level content, ask what specifically justifies the band, because the answer should be about your child's particular gap rather than about the subject name.

Does a ninety-minute Physics session cost proportionally more than a sixty-minute one?+

Usually less, per minute. A tutor's overhead per session is largely fixed: preparing the material, setting up, reviewing last week's work, writing the note afterwards. Spread across ninety minutes rather than sixty, that overhead costs you less per teaching minute. For Physics specifically, ninety minutes also fits a complete past-paper component with marking and review inside one sitting, which sixty rarely does. The trade is concentration. A Diploma student at the end of a Dubai school day may get more from two sixty-minute sessions in a week than from one ninety-minute block, so ask about both patterns before you commit.

Are AED tutoring rates in Dubai higher than in the northern emirates?+

For in-home tuition, generally yes, because Dubai has more competition for specialist tutors, longer cross-city drives, and the densest private-school market in the country at 227 schools and 387,441 students in 2024-25. Travel premiums scale with distance and traffic, and Dubai supplies plenty of both. For online tuition the geography largely disappears: a lesson delivered over live video costs the same whether the family is in Mirdif, Sharjah or Fujairah, because nothing is being driven. That is one of the clearer practical arguments for the online format in this market, separate from any question about teaching quality.

Do Physics tutoring rates in Dubai rise as the May session gets closer?+

Effective rates do, even when advertised rates do not. The scarce resource in Dubai is a specialist slot between four and eight in the evening on Gulf Standard Time, and in an examination year those are substantially committed by February. What a late-booking family faces is not usually a higher published figure but a narrower choice: fewer specialists, worse times, and less room to negotiate a block discount. Booking the physics question in the first term, when choice is wide, is the single cheapest decision available. The free trial lesson is free in November and free in April, so there is no cost to settling it early.

Is a tutor charging AED 500 an hour five times better than one at AED 100?+

No, and the market does not work that way. The jump from AED 45 to AED 200 usually buys something real: planning time, marking against the actual assessment criteria, and knowledge of the current subject guide. The jump from AED 300 to AED 650 mostly buys scarcity and reputation, which may matter for a very specific Higher Level brief and rarely matters for Physics Standard Level. Judge the purchase on what the first session produces. A tutor who can name which component your child is losing marks in, and show it on a marked paper, is worth more than a higher number on an invoice.

Do we pay for the time a tutor spends marking a past paper?+

Ask, because providers differ and the answer changes the real hourly cost. Some include marking in the session rate and do it between lessons; some mark live during the session, which uses teaching time you have paid for; some bill it separately. For Physics, marking matters more than in many subjects, because the diagnosis lives in the working rather than the final answer, and a marker who annotates where method marks were lost gives you something to act on. Clarify whether marking is included, how quickly the marked script comes back, and whether it arrives annotated or just scored.

Is in-home Physics SL tuition in Dubai something IB Gram sells?+

No. IB Gram does not offer home visits anywhere in the UAE, and our tutors do not travel to Dubai addresses. Tuition for UAE families is delivered one-to-one over live video, scheduled on Gulf Standard Time, with screen-shared past papers and annotated PDFs you keep. Home visits are a service we run only in India. In-home tuition does exist in Dubai from other providers, at roughly AED 180 to 500 an hour depending on who you ask, and if physical presence in the room is what your child needs, that is a legitimate purchase from a local tutor rather than from us.

How many hours of Physics SL support does one term usually take?+

It depends on what the first session finds, which is why we diagnose before quoting. A student losing marks on uncertainty treatment and graph interpretation in Paper 1B can see real movement in three or four sessions, because that is a narrow teachable skill rather than missing content. A student who never properly learned Theme A mechanics is looking at a term of weekly work. A student whose physics problem is actually an algebra problem needs the maths addressed first or the physics hours are wasted. Six weeks of weekly sessions is the usual review point: long enough to see movement, short enough that stopping costs little.

What does supporting the scientific investigation add to the bill?+

Typically two to four sessions spread across the drafting period rather than a separate retainer, because the work is bursty: question design early, a mid-point check on whether the data will support analysis, and a draft review. It is twenty per cent of the grade, so the marks-per-hour return is usually good. What it does not include is any writing. A tutor pressure-tests the research question, explains what each criterion rewards, and names where an evaluation is thin. The student writes every word. Providers selling finished reports in this market charge around AED 3,750; that purchase risks the Diploma itself.

Is VAT included in the AED figures Dubai tutors quote?+

Ask the provider directly and get the answer in writing, because practice varies and the published figure is often ambiguous. We cannot state the UAE VAT treatment of tuition fees as a general fact without a Federal Tax Authority citation, and no page should. What you can reasonably insist on is clarity about the specific number you are being quoted: whether it is inclusive or exclusive, and what the total monthly charge will be. Any provider who cannot answer that plainly about their own pricing is telling you something useful about how the rest of the arrangement will run.

Our budget stops at AED 250 an hour. What does that buy in Dubai?+

A qualified subject tutor working online, which is the band Unitors publishes IB tuition from AED 200 within and where most of the genuinely useful Standard Level teaching in this market sits. It does not buy in-home visits, which start around AED 180 and climb to AED 500 once travel is priced in, and it does not buy a premium named tutor at AED 650. For Physics SL that is a reasonable place to be. The extra money above this band mostly buys scarcity for Higher Level briefs, and the extra below it mostly buys a generalist reading from notes.

Is a group of three cheaper per student than one-to-one for Physics SL?+

Yes, usually substantially, and the trade is pace. In a group the tutor sets one speed, which suits a syllabus sweep before mocks and suits a single student's specific misconception badly. Physics misconceptions are stubborn and individual: one student is mishandling vector components, another is fine with vectors and cannot propagate an uncertainty. A group session cannot chase both. If the brief is broad coverage, a group is good value. If the brief is a diagnosed gap, one-to-one is cheaper in total hours even at a higher rate per hour.

What happens to the fee if we pause lessons over Eid or the summer?+

On pay-as-you-go nothing happens, because nothing is prepaid. On a term block it depends entirely on the terms, which is why the question belongs in the conversation before you agree one. Ask what notice a pause needs, whether unused sessions expire, and whether the slot is held. Dubai families pause often: Eid, the summer break, travel between terms, and the examination weeks themselves. Sessions can also shift to post-Iftar timing during Ramadan rather than being cancelled. A provider whose answer to all of this is vague is selling you an open-ended monthly payment.

Why do Dubai quotes for the same Physics syllabus vary so widely between providers?+

Because the word tutor covers five different products. A university student working from their own notes, a planned lesson from a subject specialist, an IB specialist who knows the current guide and the investigation criteria, an in-home visit that includes a driver's time, and a premium named tutor selling scarcity. Those sit at roughly AED 33 to 65, AED 150 to 300, AED 200 to 450, AED 180 to 500 and AED 500 to 650 an hour respectively, each figure published by a provider in this market. The variation is the product differing, not the subject.

Does the tutor's own location in Dubai change what we pay for online lessons?+

Not for the lesson itself. When nothing is being driven, a tutor in Dubai Marina and a tutor two time zones away cost the same to deliver, so the figure reflects their teaching rather than their postcode. What location does affect is scheduling: a specialist whose working day overlaps Gulf Standard Time evenings can hold the four to eight slot that Dubai Diploma families want, and one who cannot will offer you a morning. Where no UAE-timezone specialist covers the brief, we say so and state the time difference plainly before you decide anything.

Settle the physics question while choice is still wide

The cheapest decision a Dubai Diploma family can make about Physics SL is an early one. In the first term, specialist evening slots on Gulf Standard Time are available, rates sit at the bottom of the market band, and there is time for a diagnosis to turn into six weeks of actual teaching before mocks. By April the choice has narrowed and the scarcity premium is real. Start with the free trial lesson: a full one-to-one session over live video, a written note of what the tutor finds, and no payment of any kind until you decide to continue. If the honest answer is that your child does not need paid help, we will tell you that too.
