Cambridge IGCSE Travel and Tourism 0471 Online Tutor in Dubai

A Cambridge IGCSE Travel and Tourism 0471 online tutor in Dubai is not one product at one rate. A diagnostic hour, a destination-building hour, a marked-paper hour and a timed-practice hour do different work and are worth different money, and this page prices each of them in AED. Lessons run one-to-one over live video on Gulf Standard Time. The syllabus keeps asking about destinations, airlines, hotels and seasonality, and a candidate sitting in Dubai is already living inside the answer.

  • Five kinds of 0471 session, each priced and explained separately in AED
  • Dubai used as the worked case study, not a textbook resort in Spain
  • Screen-shared source material both tutor and student annotate live
  • Official Cambridge timetables linked rather than restated from memory

Five kinds of 0471 hour, and why they are not the same purchase

Parents ask what an online 0471 tutor costs in Dubai as though there were a single answer. There is a market band — roughly AED 150-300 an hour for a qualified online subject tutor and AED 200-450 or more for an examination-year specialist, from rate cards collected in October 2026 — but the band hides the more useful question, which is what kind of hour you are buying. A diagnostic session, a content session, a destination-building session, a marked-paper session and a timed-practice session cost similar amounts and do completely different work. Buying four of the wrong one is how families spend AED 1,200 and see nothing move.

The first hour should always be a diagnosis. A tutor gives your child a past-paper question, watches them write it, marks it live against the criteria and says which of the five syllabus units is leaking marks. That hour produces a plan rather than teaching, and it is the only hour we would ask a family to buy before knowing anything else. Our version of it is the free trial lesson, one per family, booked before any payment is taken.

Content hours are the cheapest per mark and the ones families skip. A student who has missed the products and services unit needs it taught, and a generalist tutor can do that competently. Destination-building hours are different and are where a Dubai candidate has an advantage nobody uses: the syllabus asks repeatedly about destination appeal, access, climate and attractions, and a student living in this city can describe an airline hub, a cruise terminal, a desert excursion market and a season shaped by summer heat from observation rather than from a revision guide.

Marked-paper hours are the expensive ones that actually move grades late in the course. Marking a full 0471 paper properly against the mark scheme takes a tutor 30 to 45 minutes before the lesson even starts, so ask any provider whether that time is inside the rate. Timed-practice hours are the last stage, and they are cheap to run and brutal to sit: a student writes under examination conditions while the tutor watches the clock and the structure, and nothing is explained until the pen goes down.

What this page will not do is invent an IB Gram price list. The figures here are the Dubai market's, attributed where they came from, published because three of the six competitor pages researched for this market quote no price at all and the two that do quote in US dollars. After a free trial lesson you get a written plan naming the kind of sessions, how many, and the total in AED. A quote without a diagnosis attached is a guess with a decimal point.

At a glance

  • Diagnostic hour: produces a plan, not teaching; ours is the free trial lesson
  • Content hour: cheapest per mark, best bought in Year 10
  • Destination-building hour: where living in Dubai is worth actual marks
  • Marked-paper hour: 30-45 minutes of marking before the lesson; ask if that is billed
  • Timed-practice hour: cheap to run, and the only honest rehearsal for the paper
IB programmes

Every IB programme stage, mapped to UAE school years

The same syllabus code, four very different purchases depending on when a family arrives. These are the four points in a Dubai student's 0471 course where parents usually get in touch.

Y10Ages 14-15 · Year 10

Year 10 start, 0471 taught from the beginning

Weekly sessions that follow the school's teaching order through the five units, with a written answer set and marked between each one. Content is taught once rather than repaired twice, which is why this is the cheapest route per mark gained and the least popular one to buy.

Dubai option blocks often place 0471 against a second science or a second language, so Year 10 students arrive having chosen it under time pressure and without knowing it is an extended-writing subject. The first month is the moment to find that out, not the term before the papers.

Y11Ages 15-16 · Year 11

Year 11 repair before the series

Short, targeted work on the units a marked paper shows are weak, almost always destination detail and justified recommendations. Sessions are built around past-paper questions rather than the textbook, because at this stage technique moves more marks than content.

Most Dubai families arrive here, after a mock result. It is workable, and it costs more per mark than a Year 10 plan. The single biggest constraint is the Cambridge entry deadline, which closes months before the paper and is the one date a tutor cannot negotiate.

RETAKEAny age · entered through a centre

Retake in the next series

A rebuild aimed at the specific components that cost the grade, with the previous script used as the diagnosis where the family has it. Retakes are sat through an examination centre and the series choice is a planning decision with real consequences.

Cambridge runs June and November series, so a Dubai student who misses a grade in June can sit again in November if the centre enters them in time. Ask the centre for its internal deadline, which is earlier than Cambridge's, before assuming the retake is available.

POST16Ages 16-18 · Years 12-13

Post-16 routes a 0471 grade feeds

Where this subject leads: Business or Economics at AS and A Level, BTEC hospitality and travel pathways, and UAE hospitality or tourism management degrees. Very few centres offer Travel and Tourism at A Level, so the continuation is usually through a related subject.

Dubai sixth forms differ on how they treat applied subjects in an offer. Ask admissions in writing which grade in which subject they want, because an assumption made in Year 11 about a 0471 grade carrying a Business A Level place is an expensive assumption.

Subject coverage

IB and IGCSE subjects we tutor

0471 sits in an option block with other Cambridge subjects, and some of them share skills so directly that one teaching move pays into two papers. These are the pairings Dubai families ask about most.

Travel and Tourism (0471)

Cambridge IGCSE

Five units, written examination, applied marking. The recurring diagnosis in a first session is not missing knowledge: it is a student writing everything they know instead of the two developed points a four-mark question asks for.

Business Studies (0450)

Cambridge IGCSE

Shares segmentation, the marketing mix and customer service with 0471's later units. Teach a student to justify a recommendation once and both papers improve, which makes this the most efficient pairing in the block.

Enterprise (0454)

Cambridge IGCSE

Practical business planning and pitching, assessed partly on applying ideas to a scenario. Students who take it alongside 0471 are usually comfortable with applied questions and weak on precise industry vocabulary.

Economics (0455)

Cambridge IGCSE

Explains tourism seasonality properly. A student who can talk about elasticity writes a far better answer on why a Dubai hotel discounts in August than one working from a textbook sentence about low season.

Geography (0460)

Cambridge IGCSE

Destination geography plus data-response technique. Climate graphs and arrival tables are read the same way in both subjects, and a geographer usually arrives at 0471 already able to extract a fact from a source.

Environmental Management (0680)

Cambridge IGCSE

Sustainability answers in 0471 are frequently vague. Students carrying this subject can name an actual impact and an actual management response, which is exactly what the evaluation marks are looking for.

Global Perspectives (0457)

Cambridge IGCSE

Research, evidence and perspective, assessed in part through coursework. The transferable habit is attributing evidence, which lifts a 0471 answer on responsible tourism out of generalities.

English as a Second Language (0510 and 0511)

Core and Extended

Most Dubai 0471 candidates write the paper in their second language. Industry vocabulary and the phrasing of a justification have to be taught explicitly, or applied marks earned in the student's head never reach the script.

Accounting (0452)

Cambridge IGCSE

Rarely paired, occasionally decisive. A student who reads figures confidently handles 0471's revenue, occupancy and pricing data without the hesitation that costs time on the paper.

Arabic as a Foreign Language (0544)

Cambridge IGCSE

Present in almost every Dubai timetable because Arabic is mandatory in the emirate's private schools whatever curriculum the school is licensed for. It matters here as a scheduling constraint on when a 0471 session can happen.

How sessions run

Tutoring formats built around UAE school timetables

Four ways 0471 support is bought, all delivered one-to-one over live video on Gulf Standard Time. The right one depends on how many weeks are left and what the marked work says.

Single diagnostic session

One session, one past-paper question, marked live, ending in a written note on which units are costing marks and roughly how many sessions each repair takes. Families who want a second opinion on a school report buy this and nothing else.

  • Ends with a plan a parent can read and compare against other quotes
  • No commitment to anything beyond the hour
  • Ours is free as a trial lesson, one per family, before any payment

Fortnightly marked-paper cycle

A paper or a long question written in the student's own time, marked properly against the criteria before the session, then taken apart in the lesson. Slower than weekly teaching and better value once content is broadly in place.

  • Marking time stated inside the plan rather than hidden in the rate
  • The same question type re-attempted two cycles later to test the repair
  • Suits Year 11 students with heavy homework loads

Paired session for two students on the same unit

Two students at a similar level working the same unit together, which costs roughly a third to a half of the one-to-one rate per student in this market. Useful for siblings or classmates, and only honest when both are genuinely at the same point.

  • Both students write, both get marked, neither watches the other work
  • Dropped back to one-to-one if the levels turn out to differ
  • Scheduling is harder, which is the real cost

Holiday block during the school break

Three or four sessions close together during a Dubai school holiday, aimed at a single unit or at timed-writing stamina. Blocks work because nothing else is competing for the student's attention, and they are priced as a block so the total is known upfront.

  • Best used for destination-bank building, which needs sustained attention
  • Avoids the 7pm-to-9pm term-time crush entirely
  • Fixed total, no rolling commitment afterwards

01

What each kind of 0471 session is worth in AED, and which one to buy first

The useful way to price 0471 tuition in Dubai is by the job the hour does. The market band for a qualified online subject tutor sits around AED 150-300, and an examination-year specialist at AED 200-450 or more, from rate cards collected in October 2026. Inside that band, a diagnostic hour and a timed-practice hour cost roughly the same and are worth wildly different amounts depending on when in the course you buy them.

Order matters more than rate. A family that buys six content hours when the student already knows the content has bought nothing; a family that buys six marked-paper hours before the content is in place has bought frustration. The sequence that works on this syllabus is diagnose, fill the content gaps, build the destination bank, mark papers, then practise against the clock. Each stage ends when the written work says it has, not when a package runs out.

The table prices each type and names what should come out of it. Read the last column hardest: a session with no defined output is the one that quietly repeats itself for eight weeks. On a minority subject where a specialist is charging at the top of the band, a parent is entitled to know what the hour produces.

One note on marking, which is the hidden line in this market. A 0471 paper marked properly against the mark scheme takes a tutor 30 to 45 minutes before the lesson begins. Some providers include that, some bill it, some skip it and call the result feedback. A rate that excludes marking is not a cheaper version of the same product; it is a different product, and on an applied subject the marked script is where the improvement lives.

Dubai is the case study the syllabus keeps asking for

0471 asks candidates to write about destination appeal, access and transport, accommodation types, attractions, seasonality, customer types and the economic effects of tourism. A student in Birmingham learns those from a textbook. A student in Dubai can look out of a window. Almost no Dubai candidate uses this, because classroom teaching under timetable pressure defaults to the resort examples printed in the revision guide.

Work through the syllabus with the emirate as the worked example and the answers change character. Access and transport: an international airline hub, a metro line that runs to the mall and the airport, a cruise terminal, a road network built around a single arterial highway. Accommodation: beach resorts, serviced apartments, free-zone business hotels, desert camps. Attractions: natural, built, and the whole category of manufactured attraction that this city specialises in. Seasonality: an inverted season driven by summer heat rather than winter cold, plus demand shifts around Ramadan and around the European school year.

Customer types are the part students find easiest once it is pointed out. A Dubai candidate has watched business travellers, family tourists, stopover passengers, visiting relatives of residents, cruise passengers ashore for nine hours, and the domestic staycation market that fills hotels on a long weekend. Each of those has different needs, which is exactly what the customer care and products units are testing. A student who can name the segment and its need writes a two-mark point instead of a one-mark observation.

The discipline is specificity. An examiner cannot award marks for a destination described in words that would fit anywhere. The habit we teach is three concrete facts per destination — one about access, one about the main appeal, one about a constraint or risk — written in a notebook and learnt. Three or four destinations held that way, with one of them in the UAE and one long-haul, will answer almost any destination question a paper can set.

Where marks actually leak on an applied paper, and how a lesson fixes it

  • Command word circled and mark total written before the first sentence
  • One developed point per two marks, each tied to the supplied material
  • Minutes-per-mark calculated and written at the top of the paper
  • Recommendations always carry a reason and one limitation
  • Every practice answer marked against the criteria, not graded by impression

The most common 0471 script we see from Dubai students is not ignorant. It is undirected. The student knows the material, reads the question quickly, and writes everything adjacent to the topic in the hope that the marks are in there somewhere. Applied papers do not reward that. They reward a developed point per two marks available, anchored to the material the paper supplied, with the consequence stated rather than implied.

The second leak is the command word. Identify, state, describe, explain, justify and evaluate ask for different things and carry different marks, and a student who explains when asked to identify has spent four minutes earning one mark. We teach the student to circle the command word and write the mark total at the top of the answer space before writing a single sentence. It looks trivial and it changes scripts within a month.

The third leak is timing, and the arithmetic is simple enough to teach in ten minutes. Total minutes divided by total marks gives a minute-per-mark figure; round down, write it on the paper, and check it at the halfway question. Students who over-write early answers steal the time from the high-mark questions at the end, which is where the grade actually sits. This single habit recovers marks for students whose content knowledge has not changed at all.

The fourth leak is evaluation. The marketing and promotion unit, and the higher-mark questions elsewhere, ask for a recommendation with a reason and usually a counterweight. Students supply the recommendation and stop. The teachable move is a sentence pattern: the recommendation, the reason tied to the customer or operator in the question, and one limitation. Taught explicitly, practised four or five times, marked each time, it is the single biggest grade-mover on this syllabus.

What a live online 0471 lesson actually looks like, minute by minute

Parents reasonably want to know what they are paying for when nobody is in the room. A 0471 session is well suited to video because the subject is built on documents: source material, case studies, mark schemes and the student's own written answers. All of those are better shared on a screen both people can annotate than passed across a table. What online removes is travel time; what it demands is structure, because a session with no agenda is more obviously aimless on video than in a living room.

A sixty-minute session runs to a shape. Five minutes reviewing the written work set last time, with the marks explained rather than announced. Ten minutes teaching or re-teaching the specific thing the marks showed was missing. Fifteen minutes of guided practice where the student writes and the tutor interrupts. Twenty minutes of independent writing under something close to examination conditions, camera on, tutor silent. Ten minutes taking the answer apart against the criteria and setting the next piece of work.

The practicalities are modest. A laptop or tablet with a working microphone, a quiet room with a door, a table, pen and paper, and a way to photograph or scan a handwritten answer. Handwriting matters: the examination is written by hand, so practice answers should be too, then photographed and submitted. A student who only ever types practice answers will be slower and messier on the paper than their knowledge deserves.

What a parent should receive is a short note after each session saying what was taught, what was set, and what the last piece of work scored against which criteria. That note is the thing to ask any provider for before paying, because it is the only evidence a family outside the room can actually read. A provider who will not write three sentences after a lesson is a provider whose sessions you cannot audit.

Choosing a series, and what each choice costs in preparation weeks

Cambridge International runs IGCSE examinations in a June series and a November series, with Primary and Lower Secondary Checkpoint tests in March, May and October. Which series a Dubai student sits is usually decided by the school, but private candidates and retake students genuinely choose, and the choice is a planning decision with a price attached. June gives a full academic year of teaching before the paper. November gives roughly a term and a half, in a period broken by a long summer and by the start-of-year settling that eats September.

Every examination centre is allocated to one of six administrative zones, and Cambridge publishes a separate timetable version for each. Cambridge states that it is essential to use the correct version for your zone and that it cannot accept responsibility for candidates who miss an examination after the wrong zone timetable was used. Ask your school or centre which zone it sits in, then build the revision plan from that timetable only. A plan built from a timetable found in a search result is a plan built on somebody else's zone.

Entry deadlines sit months ahead of the papers, which is the fact that costs families the most money. A UAE centre enters candidates for June or for November, and for a June sitting the entry closes in the spring, with the centre's own internal cut-off ahead of that; forecast grades follow, results appear on Cambridge Direct in August, and certificates arrive months later. Pearson prints the same shape with firmer dates, and 0471 families often sit alongside Edexcel candidates who can see it: the International GCSE November 2026 papers ran from late October to 19 November 2026, and the November 2025 results reached students on 22 January 2026. Whichever series your child sits, assume the paperwork and the money move several months ahead of the first paper and confirm the actual dates with the centre.

For families sitting Pearson Edexcel International GCSE instead, series run in May/June and November; the November 2026 final timetable ran from late October to 19 November 2026, June 2026 results reached centres on 19 August 2026 and students the following day, and November 2025 results reached students on 22 January 2026. Pearson also issues provisional timetables ahead of each series, so work from the live official document rather than a restated date.

06

Where a 0471 grade actually counts, and where it does not

Applied subjects carry a reputation in Dubai staffrooms, and parents hear it. The accurate position is narrower than the gossip. A good 0471 grade is a good IGCSE grade and sits on the certificate like any other. What varies is how a particular sixth form or university route weighs it, and that is a question to ask admissions in writing rather than to infer from a rumour at the school gate.

For UAE Ministry of Education equivalency on the British track, the published requirement is five accredited subjects in GCSE or IGCSE certificates with a grade of no less than E or grade 3, plus either one accredited subject at Advanced Level at no less than E or two accredited subjects at Advanced Subsidiary Level at the same grade. Arabic and Islamic education are not included among the five required subjects. One competitor page ranking for these queries states that UAE candidates must take six IGCSE subjects; the sourced position is five. Equivalency is a process the Ministry runs, not something a tutoring service performs, and it should be verified on the Ministry's own channel.

For sixth-form entry, the honest answer is that a Business or Economics A Level teacher will care more about a student's English and Mathematics grades than about which applied subject they took. 0471 helps as evidence of interest in a hospitality or tourism pathway, and some UAE hospitality management degrees treat it as directly relevant. It is not a substitute for the core grades a sixth form sets as conditions, and it does not block anything either.

The practical advice for a Year 11 family is unglamorous. Get the sixth form's offer conditions in writing. Count your five equivalency subjects and check Arabic and Islamic Education are not among them. Then decide how many tutoring hours 0471 deserves relative to the subjects the offer actually names. Spending specialist rates on 0471 while a conditional Mathematics grade goes unaddressed is the most common misallocation we see in this market.

The honest limits of this page, and of any 0471 tutor

IB Gram teaches UAE students one-to-one over live video. We do not run home visits in Dubai; home visits are a service we offer only in India, and the same statement appears on every country page on this site. If your family wants somebody physically in the room, Dubai agencies arrange that and the market band for it is AED 180-500 an hour depending on the tutor and the distance. We would rather name that than pretend the option does not exist.

We hold no approval, accreditation, licence or partnership from KHDA, ADEK, SPEA, the Ministry of Education, the Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation, Cambridge International or Pearson, and we operate no office, centre or branch in the UAE. Those are specific things issued to specific entities: a training institute with premises in Dubai needs an Educational Services Permit from KHDA, and an individual tutor needs a private tuition work permit through MoHRE, introduced by Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023 and granted free of charge for two years. Any tutoring page claiming regulator approval should be asked for the permit number.

On assessed work, the boundary is fixed. A tutor teaches, questions, models and marks. The answers that go to Cambridge, and anything submitted to the school, must be the student's own throughout. We do not supply sentences to copy, rewrite a draft into something a student could not have produced, or hand over finished pieces of work. One operator in this market sells completed assessments; for the student that is a malpractice trigger, not a shortcut. We also do not reproduce Cambridge syllabus documents, past papers or mark schemes as downloads, because they belong to Cambridge. We reference and link them.

On outcomes, no tutor can promise a grade and this page does not. What a plan can offer is a diagnosis written down, work marked against the published criteria, a record of what changed week by week, and a review timed to the entry deadline rather than to our invoicing. If that is not what a provider is selling you, the AED figure is not the thing to negotiate.

Where we tutor

When a session can realistically start, by community

Online delivery removes the drive and leaves one real constraint: the hour your child is actually able to work. These notes describe what the school run, the timetable and the evening look like across Dubai communities we teach into.

Palm Jumeirah and Al Sufouh

School buses on the Palm run long, so a 4pm start is optimistic and 5pm is reliable. Families here often ask for weekend morning sessions, which are the most productive slot for extended writing practice.

Umm Suqeim and Al Manara

Short school runs and early finishes make the 3:30pm to 5pm window genuinely usable. That matters for 0471, because timed writing practice works better before a student has done three hours of other homework.

The Greens, The Views and Barsha Heights

Apartment living where a quiet room is the scarce resource rather than the time slot. We ask for a door that closes and a table; a student writing a timed answer on a sofa is practising the wrong thing.

Motor City, Sports City and Dubai Production City

A long bus ride home for many students and after-school sport most weekday evenings. Twice-weekly 45-minute sessions tend to hold better here than a single long weekly lesson.

Al Quoz and Al Khail Gate

Mixed housing close to the city's commercial core, and a community where applied subject specialists are thin on the ground locally. Online removes the geography problem entirely for a minority syllabus like 0471.

Discovery Gardens and The Gardens

Dense, young families, and a lot of Year 10 and 11 students sharing study space with siblings. Evening slots after 7pm are the realistic ones, and fixing the slot early in the term matters more than the rate.

Warsan and International City

Furthest from the western tutor concentration and least served by in-home arrangements for minority subjects. This is where online delivery changes what is available rather than merely what is convenient.

Jumeirah Islands and Jumeirah Park

Villa communities with reliable connectivity and students who are usually home by 4pm. The limiting factor is swimming, football and music rather than traffic, so we schedule around a fixed activity timetable.

Schools serving Palm Jumeirah, Al Sufouh and Umm Suqeim

How matching works

From first enquiry to a tutor who fits

  1. 01

Name the syllabus, the series and the centre

Syllabus code 0471, the school or examination centre, which series your child is entered for, and the last marked piece of work. On a minority subject the precision matters: it is what allows a match to a tutor who has taught 0471 to examination rather than one prepared to read ahead.

  2. 02

Take the free trial lesson first

One free trial lesson per family, before any payment. The tutor sets a past-paper question, marks it live, and names which of the five units is costing marks. If the match is wrong you say so and nothing is owed. The output is a plan you can compare against any other quote in the market.

Buy the right kind of hour, in the right order

Diagnose, teach the content gaps, build the destination bank, mark papers, then practise against the clock. The written plan says which kind of session, how many of each, and the total in AED, so nobody is paying for content hours a student did not need.

  4. 04

Work between sessions, marked before the next one

Answers are written by hand, photographed and submitted, then marked against the published criteria before the lesson. A short note goes to the parent after every session saying what was taught, what was set and what the last piece scored.

  5. 05

    Review against the centre's deadline

A checkpoint timed to the examination centre's entry deadline rather than to a billing cycle. Either the evidence says the plan is working and it continues, or the diagnosis was wrong and it changes. The centre's internal deadline is earlier than Cambridge's, so it is the one in the plan.

Why families choose us

What UAE parents tell us matters most

Priced by the job, not by the hour alone

Five kinds of 0471 session, each with a market figure and a defined output. A family can see which hour they are buying and what should come out of it, which is more useful than a single rate quoted with no plan attached.

Dubai used as the case study

The syllabus asks about destinations, access, accommodation, seasonality and customer types. Your child lives inside working examples of all five. We teach them to use it, which is a marks advantage almost no Dubai candidate currently takes.

Marking is part of the lesson, not an extra

A 0471 paper marked properly against the mark scheme takes 30 to 45 minutes before the session begins. That time is stated in the plan rather than hidden, because the marked script is where an applied subject actually improves.

A specialist, not the nearest available person

Very few tutors in Dubai have taught 0471 to a series. Online delivery means the match is to someone who has, wherever they are, instead of whoever lives within a tolerable drive of your community.

Every figure carries its source

The AED bands here come from published rate cards and a dated market rate table, labelled as the market's rather than ours. No star ratings, no satisfaction percentages, no student counts we cannot evidence.

The limits stated on the page

No regulator approval, no UAE office, no promised grade, and no home visits in the UAE. Knowing what a provider will not do is worth as much to a parent as the list of what it will.

Questions parents ask

IB and IGCSE tutoring in Dubai: your questions answered

What should a single diagnostic session on Cambridge 0471 cost in Dubai?+

Market rates for a qualified online subject tutor in Dubai run about AED 150-300 an hour, and a diagnostic session sits inside that band because it takes the same hour of a specialist's time. The difference is the output: a diagnostic should end with a named weak unit, a session count and a written note, not a lesson. Many providers waive it as a trial, and ours is free, one per family, before any payment is taken. If a provider charges for a diagnosis, ask what document you receive at the end of it before agreeing.

Can my child use Dubai itself as a destination case study in the 0471 examination?+

Yes, and it is the advantage almost nobody uses. The syllabus asks about destination appeal, access, accommodation types, attractions, seasonality and customer types, and a student living here can describe an international hub airport, a cruise terminal, free-zone business hotels, desert camps, an inverted peak season driven by summer heat, and visitor segments from stopover passengers to the domestic staycation market. What matters is specificity: three concrete facts per destination, one about access, one about appeal and one about a constraint. Examiners cannot award marks for a description that would fit any city.

How many destinations does a 0471 candidate actually need to know properly?+

Three or four, known in real detail, beats a dozen known vaguely. The working set we build is one UAE or Gulf destination the student can describe from observation, one long-haul destination with a different climate and access profile, one destination dependent on a single major attraction, and optionally one mass-market beach destination. For each, the student learns three facts: how visitors get there, the main appeal, and one constraint or risk. That structure answers most destination questions a paper can ask, and it fits on two sides of a notebook.

What does an online 0471 lesson actually look like from start to finish?+

A sixty-minute session runs to a shape: five minutes on last week's marked work with the marks explained, ten minutes teaching the specific gap the marks revealed, fifteen minutes of guided practice where the student writes and the tutor interrupts, twenty minutes of independent writing under timed conditions with the tutor silent, then ten minutes taking the answer apart against the criteria and setting the next piece. Source material and the student's script are shared on screen and annotated by both. A short note goes to the parent afterwards saying what was taught and what the last work scored.

Is the November Cambridge series a sensible choice for a 0471 retake?+

It can be, and the deciding factor is weeks rather than preference. Cambridge runs June and November series, so a student who misses a grade in June can sit again in November if the centre enters them in time. November gives roughly a term and a half of preparation, broken by the summer and by September settling, so the plan has to be tighter than a June plan. Ask the examination centre two things first: whether it enters the November series for 0471, and what its own internal deadline is, which is always earlier than Cambridge's.

Does 0471 count towards the five subjects the UAE Ministry of Education asks for?+

On the British track, the published equivalency requirement is five accredited subjects in GCSE or IGCSE certificates at a grade of no less than E or grade 3, plus one accredited Advanced Level subject at E or two Advanced Subsidiary subjects at the same grade. Arabic and Islamic education are not included among the five. A 0471 grade counts as an accredited IGCSE subject on the same basis as any other. Equivalency is run by the Ministry, not by any tutoring service, so verify the current rule on the Ministry's own channel before planning a subject count around it.

Will a 0471 grade help with a hospitality or tourism degree application in the UAE?+

It is relevant and sometimes explicitly welcomed, and it is not decisive. UAE hospitality and tourism management programmes care about the overall profile and the English language requirement first. Where 0471 helps is as evidence that a stated interest is real, which matters in a personal statement and in an interview. Where families get it wrong is spending specialist tutoring rates on 0471 while a conditional Mathematics or English grade named in an offer goes unaddressed. Read the university's published admission requirements and allocate hours to what the offer actually names.

How do we practise 0471 source questions online without printing papers?+

The source material is shared on screen and both tutor and student annotate it live, which is closer to how an examiner expects it to be used than passing a printout across a table. The answer itself should be written by hand, because the examination is handwritten, then photographed and submitted for marking. A student who only ever types practice answers writes slower and messier on the day than their knowledge deserves. The only equipment needed is a device with a microphone, a quiet room with a door, a table, and a phone camera.

My child writes long 0471 answers and still scores badly. What is going wrong?+

Almost always the command word and the mark allocation. Identify, describe, explain and justify ask for different things and carry different marks, and a student who explains when asked to identify has spent four minutes earning one. Long answers also steal time from the high-mark questions at the end, which is where the grade sits. The fix is mechanical: circle the command word, write the mark total at the top of the answer space, aim at one developed point per two marks, and calculate minutes-per-mark before the first sentence. Scripts change within a month of practising that.

Is Travel and Tourism treated as an easy IGCSE by Dubai schools?+

It carries that reputation in some staffrooms and the reputation is not accurate. 0471 is content-light compared with a science and writing-heavy compared with most option subjects, so it rewards students who can structure an applied answer and punishes those who cannot. Many students who choose it expecting an easier ride are surprised by how much extended writing it demands. A good grade is a good IGCSE grade. What varies is how a particular sixth form weighs an applied subject, which is a question for that admissions team in writing.

Can one tutor cover 0471 and Business Studies 0450 in the same session?+

Yes, and it is often the efficient choice, because the marketing, segmentation and customer service content overlaps and the evaluation technique is identical. What makes it work is honesty about time: ninety minutes split across two syllabuses is not two lessons, and a student with a gap in both subjects usually needs separate sessions for a few weeks before the shared work pays off. Ask the tutor to state in the plan which syllabus gets which minutes, and to mark work from both against the right criteria rather than blending them.

What setup does a 0471 online lesson need at our end in Dubai?+

Less than most families expect. A laptop or tablet with a working microphone and camera, a quiet room with a door that closes, a table, pen and paper, and a phone to photograph handwritten answers. A wired or reliable home connection matters more than speed; dropped audio mid-explanation wastes more of the hour than low resolution does. One practical note for apartment communities: a student writing a timed answer on a sofa is practising the wrong posture and the wrong attention. A table is part of the equipment list.

How do we check which version of the 0471 syllabus my child is sitting?+

Ask the school or examination centre for the syllabus year they have entered, then read that version on cambridgeinternational.org. Cambridge revises specifications, and on a minority subject an out-of-date printout circulating in a department is a genuine risk. The syllabus page states the current components, durations and weightings, which is why this page points you there rather than restating them. Do the same for the timetable: ask which of Cambridge's six administrative zones your centre sits in, because each zone has its own timetable version and Cambridge will not accept responsibility for a paper missed using the wrong one.

How does Ramadan change a 0471 revision schedule in Dubai?+

School days shorten, energy patterns shift, and evening availability changes for many families. In practice we move sessions earlier in the afternoon or to after Iftar, depending on the household, and we shorten them. Forty-five focused minutes during Ramadan is worth more than a ninety-minute session nobody is present for. For students sitting a spring or early-summer series, the planning point is that Ramadan usually falls in the weeks when timed practice should be ramping up, so the practice schedule needs building around it in advance rather than being abandoned and resumed.

Does an online tutor need the same UAE permit as one who visits homes?+

Private tutoring in the UAE is regulated by permit regardless of delivery. The private tuition work permit was introduced by Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023, is administered by the Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation, and is granted free of charge for two years. Eligible applicants include registered school teachers, government and private-sector employees, unemployed residents, university students and school students aged 15 to 18. Individuals tutoring without a MoHRE permit are subject to fines and penalties under the applicable laws; no fine schedule is published, so no figure should be quoted at you.

Buy the diagnostic hour first

If your child is sitting Cambridge IGCSE Travel and Tourism 0471 at a Dubai school or through an examination centre, the first hour to buy is the one that tells you which of the five units is actually costing marks. Ours is free: one trial lesson per family, a past-paper question marked live, and a written note on what the repair involves and roughly how many sessions it needs. After that the AED figures on this page stop being a band and start being a plan. Lessons run one-to-one over live video on Gulf Standard Time, built around your child's centre, their zone timetable and the series they are entered for.
