Cambridge IGCSE Travel and Tourism 0471 Home Tutor in Dubai

A Cambridge IGCSE Travel and Tourism 0471 home tutor in Dubai is what parents type into Google, and the honest answer starts with money: published market rates for a specialist applied subject sit above general tuition, and a tutor's drive across the emirate is part of what you pay for. IB Gram does not run home visits in Dubai — home visits are a service we offer only in India — so 0471 is taught one-to-one over live video on Gulf Standard Time, with every rate below written in AED and attributed.

  • Taught through the five syllabus units of 0471, not generic study skills
  • Every AED figure on this page carries the source that published it
  • Lessons run one-to-one over live video on Gulf Standard Time

What a 0471 tutor costs in Dubai, and what moves the number

Cambridge IGCSE Travel and Tourism 0471 is priced differently from Mathematics or Physics in Dubai, and the reason is supply. A Dubai parent looking for a Maths tutor is choosing from a deep pool; a parent looking for someone who has taught 0471 to examination is choosing from a shallow one. Scarcity moves the hourly figure before anything else does. The market bands collected for this page in October 2026 run from roughly AED 45-150 an hour at the budget online end, AED 150-300 for a qualified subject tutor online, and AED 200-450 or more for an examination-year specialist. Bestimate's Tutoring Cost Dubai 2026 rate table puts in-home one-to-one visits at AED 180-350, with independent home tutors quoting AED 200-500 once travel is absorbed.

Those are market numbers, not IB Gram's price list. We publish them because three of the six competitor pages ranking for Dubai tutoring queries quote no price at all, and the two that do quote in US dollars, a currency no Dubai family pays a tutor in. A parent deserves to open a page and see the band before they fill in a form. What a specific 0471 plan costs depends on the size of the gap, how many weeks remain before the series, and whether the work is teaching new content or repairing examination technique, and the consultation exists to put a number on that honestly.

The second variable is format, and this is where the home-tutor search term meets reality. A tutor who crosses Dubai for a 4pm session in Mirdif and a 6:30pm session in Dubai Marina is selling you an hour of teaching and roughly ninety minutes of Sheikh Zayed Road. Somebody pays for that time. It arrives either as a higher hourly figure, a two-hour minimum booking, or a travel surcharge added to the invoice. Online delivery removes the line item entirely, which is why the same tutor is usually cheaper on video than at a kitchen table, and why a family in Dubai South can book a 0471 specialist at all.

The third variable is who is teaching. The private tuition work permit introduced by Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023 is granted free of charge for two years through the Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation, and the eligible categories include registered school teachers, government and private-sector employees, unemployed residents, university students and school students aged 15 to 18. A university student holding that permit is legally entitled to tutor and will quote near the bottom of the band. Someone who has taught 0471 to a Cambridge series and marked against the assessment criteria will quote near the top. Both are legitimate; they are not the same product, and a parent paying specialist rates should know which one is on the call.

The fourth variable is the calendar, and it costs more than most families expect. Cambridge entries close months before the papers are sat, and in the UAE those papers come in June, with November as the only other sitting. Final entries for a June series go in during the spring term, which means the money and the paperwork move while the student still feels a long way from the exam. Tutoring booked after that door shuts is repair work, and repair work is the most expensive hour you can buy. Tutoring booked at the start of Year 10 is content teaching, which is the cheapest. The gap between those two prices is a diary decision, not a market one.

IB programmes

Every IB programme stage, mapped to UAE school years

Travel and Tourism 0471 sits inside a wider Cambridge pathway in Dubai schools, and the stage your child is at changes both the teaching and the hourly figure. These are the four stages we are asked for most often around this subject.

LOWER-SECAges 11-14 · Years 7-9

Cambridge Lower Secondary

The three years before option blocks are chosen. There is no Travel and Tourism course here, but there is the writing stamina 0471 later demands: extended structured answers, data read from a table, an argument held across a paragraph. Work at this stage is about reading non-fiction accurately and writing to a prompt without drifting.

Dubai families often start support in Year 9 because the option sheet lands then. Choosing 0471 without knowing it is an extended-writing subject is the most common regret we hear, and an hour spent on the option sheet costs less than two terms of catching up.

0471Ages 14-16 · Years 10-11

Cambridge IGCSE Travel and Tourism (0471)

The syllabus itself: the structure of the travel and tourism industry, features of worldwide destinations, customer care and working procedures, products and services, and marketing and promotion. Assessment is by written examination, and the papers reward applied answers built on real industry examples rather than remembered definitions.

Dubai is the single best classroom for this syllabus and the least used. Airline hubs, a cruise terminal, free-zone hotel groups, inbound and outbound markets, seasonal demand shaped by summer heat and by Ramadan: a Dubai candidate can answer a destination question from the window rather than from a textbook, if a tutor teaches them to.

AS-AAges 16-18 · Years 12-13

Cambridge International AS and A Level

The sixth-form continuation for students heading into hospitality, events or tourism management. Business and Economics are the usual next steps, since Travel and Tourism at A Level is offered by far fewer centres. The jump is in evaluation: an A Level answer must weigh a decision, not describe it.

Several Dubai sixth forms will accept a strong 0471 grade as evidence for a Business or Economics route, and a few UAE hospitality degree pathways treat it as directly relevant. Ask the sixth-form admissions team in writing which grade they want before Year 11 planning is finalised.

PRIVATEAny age · entered through a centre

Private candidate entry

Students whose school does not run 0471 in its option block can sit it as a private candidate through an approved examination centre in Dubai. The centre handles entry, invigilation and the zone timetable; the family pays the centre's fee directly, and the teaching is arranged separately.

This route is how most Dubai 0471 candidates we see actually sit the paper, because the subject is an option-block casualty in a lot of schools. Confirm with the centre which series it enters, what its own deadline is, and what the fee covers before counting on the plan.

Subject coverage

IB and IGCSE subjects we tutor

A 0471 plan rarely stands alone. These are the Cambridge syllabuses most often taught alongside it in Dubai, with the reason each one appears in the same conversation.

Travel and Tourism (0471)

Cambridge IGCSE

The core syllabus. Marks are won on applied examples and lost on one-sentence answers to questions carrying four or six marks. The commonest diagnosis in a first session is a student who knows the content and has never been shown how the mark scheme splits a six-mark response.

Business Studies (0450)

Cambridge IGCSE

The nearest neighbour. Marketing, customer service and stakeholder analysis overlap heavily with 0471's later units, and a student taking both can be taught the evaluation move once and apply it in two papers. Many Dubai option blocks pair them deliberately.

Economics (0455)

Cambridge IGCSE

Supply, demand and elasticity explain tourism seasonality better than any 0471 textbook paragraph. Candidates who hold both subjects write stronger answers on why a Dubai hotel discounts in August and charges a premium in February.

Geography (0460)

Cambridge IGCSE

The physical and human geography of destinations, plus data-response skills that transfer straight into 0471's source material. Climate graphs, population pyramids and tourist-arrival tables are read the same way in both papers.

First Language English (0500)

Cambridge IGCSE

0471 is marked on written English even though it is not an English paper. Students who cannot structure a paragraph lose applied marks they have earned in their heads. Work on directed writing pays into both subjects at once.

English as a Second Language (0510 and 0511)

Core and Extended

A large share of Dubai candidates sit ESL rather than First Language English. The 0471 examination still expects precise, formal written answers, so vocabulary for the travel industry has to be taught explicitly alongside the content.

Global Perspectives (0457)

Cambridge IGCSE

Research, argument and perspective-taking, assessed partly through coursework. The transferable skill is sourcing evidence and attributing it, which is also what lifts a 0471 answer about sustainable tourism out of generalities.

Arabic as a Foreign Language (0544)

Cambridge IGCSE

Sits alongside 0471 in most Dubai option blocks because Arabic is mandatory in Dubai private schools regardless of the licensed curriculum. Timetable pressure from Arabic and Islamic Education is a real constraint on when a 0471 session can happen.

Mathematics (0580)

Core and Extended

0471 candidates read percentages, index numbers and arrival figures under time pressure. Weak number sense shows up as lost data-response marks, and twenty minutes of arithmetic repair in a 0471 session is often better value than another content lesson.

Information and Communication Technology (0417)

Cambridge IGCSE

Spreadsheets and data presentation, which is how tourism statistics arrive in the real industry and increasingly in classroom tasks. Useful for students building their own destination case studies rather than borrowing one from a revision guide.

How sessions run

Tutoring formats built around UAE school timetables

Three ways families buy 0471 support, with what each one is honestly good for. All three run one-to-one over live video on Gulf Standard Time.

Weekly one-to-one across a term

Sixty or ninety minutes a week, following the school's teaching order through the five units, with written work set between sessions and marked before the next one. The cheapest route per mark gained, because content is taught once rather than repaired twice.

  • Best started in Year 10, not in the term before the papers
  • Written answer set after every session and returned marked
  • Session notes a parent can actually read, not a one-word report
  • Pausable around school trips and examination weeks

Unit repair block

A fixed block of four to six sessions aimed at one named unit, usually marketing and promotion or customer care, where a student's marks are visibly lower than elsewhere. Priced as a block so a family knows the total before starting.

  • Starts with a marked past-paper question to locate the loss
  • Ends with the same question type re-attempted under timed conditions
  • No open-ended commitment beyond the block

Pre-series intensive

Short, frequent sessions in the eight weeks before a Cambridge series, built entirely around timed questions and mark-scheme language. The most expensive hour per mark, and sometimes the only one available if a family arrives late.

  • Two or three sessions a week, 45 to 60 minutes each
  • Every session ends with a timed answer written under examination conditions
  • Scheduling fixed around the centre's zone timetable, not ours

What Cambridge 0471 support costs in Dubai, and why applied subjects price differently

Market rates for one-to-one tuition in Dubai in October 2026 run from roughly AED 45 an hour at the budget online end to AED 650 for a named premium tutor. Travel and Tourism 0471 sits unusually high inside that spread for a subject that is not considered academically difficult, and the reason is not difficulty. It is that very few tutors in this city have taught the syllabus to a series. A parent is paying for scarcity, and should know that is what they are paying for.

The table below sets out the bands as the market publishes them, with the source of each range. Read the right-hand column before the left: a budget hour and a specialist hour are different products, and the difference matters more on an applied subject than on Mathematics, where a competent generalist can carry a student a long way. On 0471, a generalist can teach the content and still leave the student writing four-mark answers worth two marks, because the mark scheme language is subject-specific and has to be taught deliberately.

None of these figures is IB Gram's price. Our model is a free trial lesson followed by a consultation that puts a number on the specific gap in front of your child, because an honest quote needs the diagnosis first. What this page can tell you is the band you should expect to be quoted in Dubai by anybody, so that a figure far below it or far above it prompts a question rather than a signature.

One further note on monthly packages, which is how a lot of Dubai tutoring is sold. Online monthly packages advertised in this market have been seen at AED 799 for eight sessions, and in-home packages at AED 1,599 to AED 1,799 for four two-hour visits. Divide before you compare: eight short online sessions and four long in-home visits are not the same amount of teaching, and the per-hour figures are further apart than the monthly headline suggests.

The home-tutor question answered: Dubai traffic, travel time and what it adds to the hour

Parents search for a home tutor because the mental model is simple: somebody competent arrives, your child sits down, and nobody drives anywhere. It is a reasonable thing to want. The problem in Dubai is arithmetic. A tutor who takes a 5pm session in Jumeirah and a 7pm session in Mirdif spends roughly as long in the car as in the two lessons combined, and that time is not free. It is recovered as a higher hourly rate, a minimum booking length, a travel surcharge, or a tutor who is quietly late and quietly tired.

IB Gram does not run home visits in Dubai or anywhere else in the UAE. Home visits are a service we offer only in India, and every country page on this site says the same thing. For a UAE family, 0471 is taught one-to-one over live video, on Gulf Standard Time, and the case for that is not convenience. It is the tutor pool. A family in Al Warqa searching for a 0471 specialist within a twenty-minute drive is choosing from almost nobody. The same family on video is choosing from every specialist available in that time slot.

The comparison below is the one worth making before you decide. It is not online versus the idea of in-home tuition; it is online versus what an in-home arrangement in Dubai actually involves on a Tuesday in February. The travel column is the one most quotes leave out, and the substitution column is the one families discover in week six, when the tutor who knows 0471 is unavailable and a replacement who does not is sent instead.

A fair point against online delivery deserves stating. A tutor in the room can see a bored fourteen-year-old faster than a tutor on a screen, and a student who will not keep a camera on is harder to teach. Our answer is structural rather than rhetorical: screen-shared source material both parties annotate live, written work submitted and returned marked, and session notes to the parent. A student who disengages on video shows up in the written work within a fortnight.

The five units of 0471, and which ones a paid hour should buy

Travel and Tourism 0471 is built from five units: the travel and tourism industry, features of worldwide destinations, customer care and working procedures, travel and tourism products and services, and marketing and promotion. Confirm the current component structure, durations and weightings on the syllabus page at cambridgeinternational.org for your child's examination year, because Cambridge revises specifications and a tutor working from an old printout is a real risk on a minority subject.

Where a paid hour earns its money varies sharply by unit. The first unit is largely structural knowledge and most students can learn it from the textbook with supervision. The second rewards specific destinations described with real detail, which is the single biggest opportunity a Dubai candidate has and the one most waste. The third and fourth are scored on application to a scenario, which is a technique rather than a body of knowledge. The fifth, marketing and promotion, is where borderline candidates most often lose a grade, because it asks for justified recommendations and students supply descriptions.

That distribution should shape where you spend. A family with eight sessions of budget should not divide them equally across five units. Two on destination detail, three on scenario application, two on marketing justification and one on timed practice will move more marks than an even split, and a tutor who cannot tell you which unit your child is weakest in after one marked paper has not diagnosed anything.

The table maps each unit to the kind of loss we see in Dubai students' scripts and to the hours a repair typically takes. Treat the hour counts as planning estimates from marked work, not promises: a student who writes fluently and knows no destinations needs a different plan from one who knows Dubai inside out and cannot structure a paragraph.

Source booklets and case studies: the technique that separates grades in 0471

  • Command word and mark allocation read before the source material, every time
  • One developed point per two marks, each anchored to a fact from the source
  • A bank of three or four destinations known in real detail, one of them in the UAE
  • Minutes-per-mark written at the top of the script before the first answer
  • Marked past-paper answers returned with the mark scheme beside them, not a grade alone

0471 is an applied subject, which means the examination gives students material and asks them to do something with it. That is the whole game. A candidate who reads a case study about a resort, extracts three relevant facts and uses them to justify an answer will out-score a candidate who has memorised more content and writes it out untethered. Dubai students are frequently the second kind, because a lot of classroom teaching here is content delivery under timetable pressure.

The repair is mechanical and teachable. Read the question stem for the command word and the mark allocation before reading the source material. Mark up the source for facts that connect to the stem. Write one developed point per two marks available, each carrying a fact from the source and a consequence. Say what follows from the fact rather than restating it. Students who practise this with a tutor watching them do it, rather than being told about it, change their scripts in three or four sessions.

The second technique is a destination bank, and it is where a Dubai candidate has an unfair advantage nobody uses. A student here can write about an airline hub, a cruise terminal, a desert excursion market, a shoulder season driven by summer heat, inbound business tourism and the effect of Ramadan on hotel occupancy, all from observation. Three or four destinations known in genuine detail — including one in the UAE, one long-haul and one that depends on a single attraction — will answer most destination questions a paper can ask.

The third is time. Applied papers punish over-writing more than under-writing, because a student who spends twelve minutes on a four-mark question has stolen the time from a ten-mark one. We teach the arithmetic explicitly: minutes available divided by marks available, rounded down, written on the top of the paper before the first answer. It is unglamorous and it recovers marks in every series.

Counting back from a Cambridge series, and the money that moves first

Cambridge International runs IGCSE examinations in a June series and a November series, with Primary and Lower Secondary Checkpoint tests in March, May and October. Every examination centre is allocated to one of six administrative zones, and Cambridge states that it is essential to use the correct version of the timetable for your zone, adding that it cannot accept responsibility for candidates who miss an examination after the wrong zone timetable was used. In practical terms: ask your child's school or examination centre which zone it sits in, and work from that timetable only.

The deadline structure is the part families underestimate, so here it is counted properly. A Dubai candidate sits 0471 in June. Final entries for that series close in the spring, months ahead of the first paper, and the exact day belongs to your centre and appears on the statement of entry rather than on any public calendar. Where a school enters Pearson Edexcel instead, the lead time is visible in dates already published: the November 2026 International GCSE timetable runs from late October to 19 November 2026, and November 2025 results reached students on 22 January 2026. Read either board backwards and the shape is the same: the paperwork moves long before the first paper, and a tutoring plan that starts after entries close has already lost its cheapest weeks.

For families sitting Pearson Edexcel International GCSE instead, the pattern is comparable but the dates are not. Pearson runs May/June and November series; the November 2026 final timetable ran from late October to 19 November 2026. June 2026 results reached centres on 19 August 2026 and students on 20 August 2026, and November 2025 results reached students on 22 January 2026. Pearson also publishes provisional timetables ahead of each series, so check the live official timetable rather than a restated date.

The table below is the calendar as a budget document rather than an examination document. Each row names who sets the deadline, because that determines whether it can move. A school's internal mock date can shift. A Cambridge entry deadline cannot.

Tutoring cost in context: Dubai fees, the 2026-27 freeze and the private-candidate route

Tutoring spend only makes sense next to the rest of a Dubai education budget. The private school sector here enrolled 387,441 students across 227 schools in 2024-25, offering 17 different curricula, with UK-curriculum provision taking the largest share of enrolment at 37 per cent, Indian curricula 26 per cent, American 14 per cent and the International Baccalaureate 7 per cent. That is the market a parent is buying inside, and it is dense enough that option blocks, teaching quality and subject availability vary considerably between two schools five minutes apart.

On fees, there is a specific and useful fact. The Knowledge and Human Development Authority confirmed on 22 May 2026 that there will be no increase in school fees for private schools in the emirate for the 2026-27 academic year, under Dubai's second economic incentives package valued at AED 1.5 billion within a AED 2.5 billion total. For a family planning tutoring, that removes one variable from next year's budget. Separately, Dubai's 2026-27 intake adds seven new private schools, four UK curriculum and three International Baccalaureate, creating 16,846 new places, after six new schools opened during 2025-26 and enrolment rose 6 per cent.

Against that, a tutoring plan is a modest line. Bestimate's 2026 monthly estimates for weekly one-hour sessions run AED 240-600 at the budget end, AED 600-1,200 in the middle and AED 1,000-2,000 or more for specialist examination-year support. A single-subject 0471 plan of one session a week for two terms sits in the middle band. Where cost escalates is the late pre-series intensive, which is why the cheapest intervention in this subject is an honest conversation in Year 10.

If your child is sitting 0471 as a private candidate because the school does not offer it, there is an additional cost nobody mentions on a tutoring page: the examination centre's own entry fee, which varies by centre and is paid directly to them. Ask for it in writing, ask what it includes, and ask what the centre's internal deadline is, which is always earlier than Cambridge's.

Is the person you are paying legally permitted to tutor in the UAE?

Private tutoring in the UAE is regulated by permit, and a surprising number of families paying for it have never asked the question. Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023 introduced private tuition work permits, administered by the Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation. The permit is granted free of charge for two years. Eligible applicants include teachers registered in government or private schools, employees in the government and private sectors, unemployed individuals, school students aged 15 to 18, and university students. MoHRE's own service is listed as issuance of a new work permit for private tutor licensing, with a two-working-day completion time, applied for through its smart app, website and e-services system.

Two things follow that are worth a parent's attention. First, because the permit costs nothing, any tutor who tells you the fee is why they do not hold one is telling you something else. Second, individuals offering private tutoring without a permit from MoHRE are subject to fines and penalties outlined in the applicable laws. No fine schedule has been published, and figures circulating online could not be verified, so this page quotes none.

There is a separate and often confused category. An operation with premises and staff in Dubai is a different legal animal from an individual tutor: a training institute needs an Educational Services Permit from KHDA, with initial approval first, a maximum of six months to complete the permit and licence steps, and annual renewal requested at least 30 days before expiry. IB Gram holds no such permit, operates no centre or office in the UAE, and makes no claim of approval, accreditation or partnership from KHDA, ADEK, SPEA, the Ministry of Education, Cambridge International or Pearson. Any tutoring page claiming otherwise should be asked for the permit number.

In Abu Dhabi there is an extra rule parents should know even when they live in Dubai, because families move. ADEK's professional-ethics rules for private and charter school staff prohibit teachers from providing paid private tutoring to students enrolled at their own school, and the MoHRE permit's code of conduct also bars serving students affiliated with the teacher's own school. This is press-reported rather than quoted from the policy document, so verify it against the current ADEK text before relying on it. The practical point stands: your child's own classroom teacher, privately, is not the arrangement to seek.

What a 0471 tutor does with marked work, and the line nobody should cross

Travel and Tourism 0471 is assessed by written examination, which removes a temptation that exists on coursework-bearing subjects. It does not remove it entirely: students build case-study notes, write practice answers and sometimes produce portfolio-style tasks for school. The boundary is the same in every subject. A tutor teaches, questions, models and gives feedback. The script that goes to Cambridge, and any piece of assessed school work, must be the student's own from first word to last.

In practice that means a tutor may read a student's practice answer and mark it against the published criteria, explain why a point scored two rather than four, model an answer to a different question so the student can see the structure, and ask the questions that make the student find the weakness themselves. What a tutor may not do is supply sentences for the student to copy, rewrite a draft into something the student could not have produced, or hand over a finished piece of work. One operator in this market sells completed Internal Assessments. That is a malpractice trigger for the student and a liability for whoever bought it.

Material is the other boundary. Cambridge, Pearson and the IB own their syllabus documents, past papers, mark schemes and grade-boundary tables. We reference them and link to the official source. We do not reproduce them as downloads, and any tutor offering you a bundle of mark schemes to keep is distributing somebody else's copyright. The official syllabus for 0471, including current component structure and assessment weightings, lives on cambridgeinternational.org, and that is where a parent should read it.

The last boundary is the honest one about outcomes. No tutor can promise a grade. What a plan can promise is a diagnosis you can read, written work marked against the criteria, and a session-by-session record of what changed. If a provider promises your family a specific grade on an applied subject with five units and a written examination, the only safe response is to ask how, in writing.

Where we tutor

What the drive costs, community by community

Travel time is the hidden half of an in-home tutoring invoice in Dubai. These notes describe what a tutor's journey to each community actually does to an evening, and what online delivery returns to the family.

Dubai Marina and JBR

A tutor finishing a session in Al Barsha at 5pm is unlikely to reach a Marina tower before 6:15pm on a weekday. Tower parking and visitor registration add a further ten minutes. Online, that 6pm slot starts at 6pm.

Mirdif and Al Warqa

Villa communities on the eastern side, a long way from the Marina-and-Barsha tutor concentration. In-home rates quoted here routinely carry a two-hour minimum, because nobody drives that distance for sixty minutes of work.

Dubai Hills Estate and Nad Al Sheba

Central enough to be reachable, spread out enough that a tutor's satellite navigation adds ten minutes inside the community. Families here most often ask for two subjects back to back, which is the one case where an in-home visit prices sensibly.

Jumeirah Village Circle and Al Furjan

Dense, mid-market and full of Year 10 and 11 students. The honest in-home problem here is the 7pm-to-9pm crush: every family wants the same slot, and only one of them gets the specialist.

Dubai Silicon Oasis and Academic City

Close to several large Cambridge-curriculum schools, which helps, and a long way from the western villa belt, which does not. Sessions here work best immediately after school because the evening drive back out is punishing.

Deira, Al Qusais and Al Nahda

The older, denser part of the city, well served by Metro and poorly served by tutor supply for applied subjects like 0471. This is the clearest case in Dubai for online delivery: the subject specialist is simply not resident nearby.

Dubai South, Mudon and Town Square

The newest communities and the furthest from everything. A 45-minute drive each way is normal, which converts a one-hour lesson into a two-and-a-half-hour commitment for the tutor and a premium on your invoice.

Downtown Dubai and Business Bay

Apartment living with parking that is awkward and often paid. Families here tend to want late sessions after a parent gets home, exactly the slot a travelling tutor cannot offer twice in one evening.

School ecosystem

IB and Cambridge school communities we support in Dubai

Cambridge-curriculum schools serving Al Barsha, Tecom and the Marina

The densest concentration of British-curriculum provision in Dubai, and where most option-block conversations about applied subjects start. Option sheets differ school by school and year by year, so check your own school's published list rather than assuming 0471 is available.

  • GEMS Wellington International School
  • Kings' School Al Barsha
  • Dubai British School Jumeirah Park
  • Nord Anglia International School Dubai
  • GEMS Founders School Al Barsha
  • Safa British School

Schools serving Mirdif, Al Warqa and Al Qusais

Larger cohorts, broader option blocks and a higher share of students sitting nine or ten IGCSE subjects. Applied subjects appear here more often than in the smaller western schools, usually in a block against a second science.

  • The Westminster School
  • Our Own English High School
  • Dubai Scholars Private School
  • GEMS New Millennium School
  • Deira Private School

Schools serving Dubai Silicon Oasis, Academic City and Mirdif South

A cluster shaped by proximity to the universities and to the examination centres that take private candidates. Families in this corridor are the most likely to be sitting 0471 outside their own school's timetable.

How matching works

From first enquiry to a tutor who fits

  1. 01

Tell us the syllabus, the series and the gap

The syllabus code, your child's school and examination centre, the series they are entered for, and what the last marked paper looked like. 0471 is a minority subject in Dubai, so naming it precisely at this stage is what lets us match a tutor who has taught it rather than one willing to try.

  2. 02

A free trial lesson, before any payment

One free trial lesson per family, booked before any money changes hands. The tutor works through a past-paper question with your child, marks it live, and tells you which of the five units is actually costing marks. If the match is wrong, you say so and nothing is owed.

  3. 03

A written plan with a number attached

After the trial you get a short plan: which units, how many sessions, what is set between them, and what the total costs in AED. No open-ended retainer. A plan a parent cannot read is a plan nobody can hold us to.

  4. 04

Weekly sessions with marked work in between

Sessions run one-to-one over live video on Gulf Standard Time, built around the school's teaching order. Written work is set after each session and returned marked against the published criteria, with a note to the parent on what moved and what did not.

  5. 05

Review before the entry deadline, not after

A checkpoint timed to the centre's entry deadline rather than to our invoicing. Either the plan is working and continues, or the diagnosis was wrong and it changes. Families who review late pay for repair hours they did not need.

Why families choose us

What UAE parents tell us matters most

The rate band is on the page

Three of the six competitor pages researched for this market publish no price at all, and the two that do quote in US dollars. Every figure here is in AED, carries its source, and is labelled as the market's rather than ours.

A specialist rather than whoever is nearby

0471 is taught by very few tutors in Dubai. Online delivery means your child is matched to someone who has taught the syllabus to a series, instead of the best available person inside a twenty-minute drive of your community.

Marked against the published criteria

Written work comes back with the mark allocation explained, not a grade and a tick. On an applied subject where students lose earned marks to structure, that is where the improvement actually comes from.

No claim we cannot evidence

No regulator approval, no accreditation, no school partnership, no star rating, no promised outcome. IB Gram holds no permit from KHDA, ADEK, SPEA or the Ministry of Education and says so plainly on every UAE page.

The delivery model stated before you ask

Lessons are online, one-to-one, over live video. Home visits are a service we offer only in India. You will not discover the delivery model after paying a deposit, which is more than can be said for providers routing UAE parents to an overseas phone number.

The calendar built into the plan

Entry deadlines, zone timetables and results dates are part of the written plan, because a tutoring schedule that ignores a Cambridge deadline is a schedule that wastes money. Official timetables are linked, not restated from memory.

Questions parents ask

IB and IGCSE tutoring in Dubai: your questions answered

How much does a Cambridge IGCSE Travel and Tourism 0471 tutor cost in Dubai?+

Market rates collected in October 2026 put qualified online subject tutors at roughly AED 150-300 an hour and examination-year specialists at AED 200-450 or more. In-home one-to-one sits at AED 180-350 per Bestimate's Tutoring Cost Dubai 2026 table, with independent home tutors quoting up to AED 500 once travel is absorbed. 0471 tends to price in the upper half of those bands because very few Dubai tutors have taught the syllabus to a series. Those are market figures rather than IB Gram's price list; our model is a free trial lesson and then a written plan with the total stated before you commit.

Does IB Gram send a 0471 tutor to our home in Dubai?+

No. IB Gram does not run home visits anywhere in the UAE; home visits are a service we offer only in India. Cambridge 0471 is taught one-to-one over live video, scheduled on Gulf Standard Time. The reason is the tutor pool rather than cost: a family in Mirdif or Dubai South looking for a 0471 specialist within driving distance is choosing from almost nobody, while the same family on video is choosing from every specialist free in that slot. If you want a tutor physically in the room, a Dubai agency can arrange that and this page sets out what the market charges for it.

Why is 0471 more expensive to tutor than Mathematics in Dubai?+

Scarcity, not difficulty. Dubai has a deep pool of Maths tutors and a very shallow one for Travel and Tourism, so the few people who have taught 0471 to a Cambridge series can quote at the top of the band. There is a second reason worth knowing: a generalist can teach 0471 content competently and still leave a student writing four-mark answers worth two, because the mark scheme language on an applied subject has to be taught deliberately. You are paying for someone who knows how the marks are split, not just what the topics are.

Is a two-hour minimum booking normal for in-home 0471 tuition in Dubai?+

It is rarely itemised, which is the problem. A tutor taking a 5pm session in Jumeirah and a 7pm session in Mirdif spends about as long driving as teaching, and that time is recovered somewhere: a higher hourly figure, a two-hour minimum booking, a travel surcharge, or a tutor who arrives late and leaves early. Comparing the in-home band of AED 180-500 with the online band of AED 150-450 understates the gap, because the in-home hour usually comes with a minimum length attached. Ask any in-home quote three questions: minimum booking, travel charge, and what happens if the tutor is delayed.

Which of the five 0471 units should we spend tutoring hours on first?+

Start with a marked past-paper question rather than a guess. Across the Dubai scripts we see, the recurring losses are in features of worldwide destinations, where answers are generic and carry no named example, and in marketing and promotion, where students describe rather than justify a recommendation. The industry-structure unit is the one most students can learn from the textbook with supervision. A sensible eight-session split is two sessions on destination detail, three on applying content to a scenario, two on justified recommendations and one on timed practice, adjusted once the first marked paper comes back.

Can my child sit 0471 as a private candidate if their Dubai school does not offer it?+

Yes, through an approved examination centre in Dubai that accepts private candidates. The centre handles the entry, the invigilation and the zone timetable, and charges its own fee directly to the family. This is how a good share of Dubai 0471 candidates actually sit the paper, because the subject is often squeezed out of an option block. Three questions before you count on it: which series the centre is entering, what its internal deadline is, and what the fee includes. The centre's own deadline is always earlier than Cambridge's, and it is the one families miss.

What is a Cambridge administrative zone, and why does it matter for a Dubai candidate?+

Cambridge allocates every examination centre to one of six administrative zones, and publishes a different timetable version for each. Cambridge states that it is essential to use the correct version for your zone and that it cannot accept responsibility for candidates who miss an examination after the wrong timetable was used. For a Dubai family the practical step is small and important: ask the school or examination centre which zone it sits in, then work only from that timetable. A revision schedule built from a timetable found online is a schedule built on somebody else's zone.

How far before the papers do Cambridge entries actually close?+

Months, and this is the deadline that costs families money. UAE candidates sit the June series, with November as the resit route, and final entries for June close in the spring, well before the first paper. Cambridge issues those dates through the centre, so the number that binds your child is the one the exams officer confirms in writing. For a sense of the lead time in firm numbers, Pearson Edexcel’s November 2026 International GCSE timetable runs from late October to 19 November 2026, with entries closed long before it opened. Read it backwards and the paperwork and the money move while the exam still feels distant. Tutoring arranged after entries close is repair work at the most expensive hourly rate available, which is why the cheapest intervention is a conversation in Year 10.

Are monthly tutoring packages in Dubai better value than paying per session?+

Sometimes, but only after you divide. Packages advertised in this market include AED 799 a month for eight online sessions and AED 1,599-1,799 a month for four two-hour in-home visits. Those headline figures hide very different amounts of teaching and very different session lengths, so convert both to an hourly figure before comparing. Then ask what the package does with unused sessions, whether marking time is inside the price, and whether the rate is held if you pause during examination weeks. A package that cannot be paused is a discount you pay for in wasted sessions.

Do private tutors working with Dubai students need a permit?+

Yes. Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023 introduced private tuition work permits through the Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation, granted free of charge for two years. Eligible applicants include registered school teachers, government and private-sector employees, unemployed residents, university students and school students aged 15 to 18. Individuals tutoring without a MoHRE permit are subject to fines and penalties under the applicable laws; no fine schedule is published, so no figure should be quoted at you. Because the permit costs nothing, a tutor citing the fee as a reason for not holding one is telling you something else.

Is a tuition centre group class a sensible way to cover 0471 cheaply?+

It is the cheapest hour available and usually the wrong one for this subject. Centres roster classes around demand, and 0471 rarely generates enough enrolment in one Dubai community to fill a class, so a family is often sold a general business or geography class instead. Where group teaching does work is a pair or a group of two to four students on the same unit at a similar level, which costs roughly a third to a half of the one-to-one rate per student. Ask the centre directly which syllabus code the class teaches before enrolling.

Do Arabic and Islamic Education lessons affect when a 0471 session can run?+

They do, and families underestimate it. Arabic, Islamic Education and Social or Moral studies are mandatory in all Dubai private schools regardless of the licensed international curriculum, and KHDA calculates mandatory-subject instructional time on a 40-minute lesson unit. That lands as a fuller timetable and, for many students, additional Arabic homework on weekday evenings. In practice the workable 0471 slots in Dubai are straight after school or after 7pm, and the 7pm-to-9pm window is heavily contested. Booking a fixed weekly slot early in the term is worth more than negotiating a lower rate for a slot that keeps moving.

Can a 0471 tutor help with case-study notes and practice answers?+

Yes, and the boundary is worth stating. A tutor may mark a student's practice answer against the published criteria, explain why a point scored two rather than four, model an answer to a different question so the structure is visible, and ask the questions that make the student find the weakness. A tutor may not supply sentences to copy or hand over finished work. Anything submitted to Cambridge or to the school must be the student's own throughout. One operator in this market sells completed assessments outright; that is a malpractice trigger for the student, not a shortcut.

How many sessions does a 0471 student in Dubai usually need?+

It depends on what the gap is, which is why the first session is a diagnosis rather than a lesson. Patterns we see: a student with solid content and weak examination technique typically needs six to eight sessions concentrated on applied answers; a student who has missed a unit needs two to three on that unit plus timed practice; a student starting Year 10 from scratch is better served by weekly sessions across two terms, which costs less per mark than any intensive. Bestimate's 2026 monthly estimates for weekly one-hour sessions run AED 240-600 at the budget end and AED 600-1,200 mid-market.

Should a 0471 quote state whether marking sits inside the hourly rate?+

Ask, because in this market it varies and it is the most common hidden extra. Marking a full 0471 past paper properly against the mark scheme takes a tutor 30 to 45 minutes, and some providers bill that separately, some fold it into the rate, and some simply do not do it. A rate that excludes marking is not cheaper; it is a different product, and on an applied subject the marked script is where the improvement comes from. Get the answer in writing alongside the minimum booking length and the cancellation terms.

Start with the diagnosis, then the number

If your child is entered for Cambridge IGCSE Travel and Tourism 0471 at a Dubai school or through an examination centre as a private candidate, the first useful step is a marked past-paper question, not a price negotiation. Book the free trial lesson, let the tutor mark one answer live, and you will know which of the five units is costing marks and roughly how many sessions it takes to repair. Then the AED figure means something, because it is attached to a plan rather than to an hour. Lessons run one-to-one over live video on Gulf Standard Time, and the market rate bands on this page are published so you can judge any quote, including ours.
