Cambridge IGCSE Psychology 0266 Tutor in Dubai

A Cambridge IGCSE Psychology 0266 tutor is most useful to a Dubai student in the gap between finding the subject interesting and writing answers that score. Psychology at 16 is a precise subject: approaches have assumptions, studies have names, methods terms have fixed definitions, and ethics has a vocabulary examiners expect to see. This page sets all of that out, with the mark-band map and the places candidates stop short. Sessions run one-to-one over live video.

  • Four approaches taught as competing explanations, not as a list
  • Methods terms drilled to the definition that actually scores
  • Ethics vocabulary used the way an examiner expects to read it
  • Tutors matched by syllabus code taught to examination, not by subject label

IB & IGCSE in Dubai

Psychology at 16 is a precise subject that reads like a general one

Students choose psychology because it sounds like it will explain people. The course does explain people, but it does so through named studies, stated assumptions, controlled variables and a vocabulary of research design that has to be used exactly. The distance between an interesting opinion about memory and a creditable answer about a memory study is the whole of the subject, and a student who has not been shown where that line sits will write fluently and score in the middle.

Cambridge IGCSE Psychology 0266 asks for three things that can be separated and taught separately. First, knowledge: approaches, the assumptions behind them, named studies with method and findings attached. Second, application: taking a concept and using it on a scenario the student has not seen before. Third, evaluation: judging a study or an explanation on stated grounds such as sample, method, ethics or ecological validity. Most lost marks sit in the third category, and most revision time is spent in the first.

There is also a maths problem nobody warns families about. Psychology at this level handles data: tables, graphs, measures of central tendency, the difference between quantitative and qualitative evidence. A student who dislikes numbers can be ambushed by a question asking which measure of central tendency suits a data set and why. It is a small part of the course and a reliable source of dropped marks, and it is fixed in roughly two sessions once somebody notices.

Delivery is online. IB Gram matches Dubai families with specialist tutors who teach one-to-one over live video, screen-sharing the student's own written work. IB Gram does not offer home visits in Dubai or elsewhere in the UAE, because home visits are a service offered only in India. For 0266 that constraint works in a family's favour. Psychology is a small entry at IGCSE across the Gulf, the pool of tutors who have taken a cohort through it is correspondingly thin, and selecting from that pool by driving distance rather than by syllabus experience is how a family ends up with a general science tutor reading ahead each week.

The rest of this page covers what 0266 is and how it differs from the A Level and the Diploma course, the four approaches set against each other, the core topics a candidate carries, the research-methods terms that must be exact, the ethics vocabulary, a mark-band map from identify to discuss, who may legally take money for private tuition in the UAE, and how to start. Sources are named where a fact is sourced, and flagged where it must be verified against the syllabus for your child's examination year. One thing is not covered here, deliberately. No grade outcome is predicted anywhere on this page, because no tutor can honestly predict one. A provider who promises a particular grade in a subject examined by written paper is selling something nobody can deliver, and that promise should be read as a warning sign rather than as confidence.

Every IB programme stage, mapped to UAE school years

Psychology appears at three school stages and in a fourth at university, and the expectations change sharply between them. Families often buy support pitched at the wrong one, which is why the comparison comes first on this page.

Cambridge IGCSE Psychology

The two-year Cambridge Upper Secondary course and the focus of this page. It introduces the main approaches to explaining behaviour, a set of named studies, the basics of research design, and the ethical framework psychological research operates inside. Assessment is by written examination, which concentrates the grade into a short window and makes timed written practice during the course the most valuable thing a tutor can run.

Confirm with the school whether 0266 is actually timetabled before planning around it. Psychology is an option-block subject in Dubai and smaller cohorts are sometimes cut when numbers fall below a school's threshold, which is how families discover in Year 10 that the subject their child chose in Year 9 is no longer running at that school.

Cambridge International AS & A Level Psychology

The sixth-form continuation, and a significant step rather than an extension. Content deepens into specified applied areas, studies are examined in far more detail, and research-methods questions expect a student to design and critique investigations rather than recognise them. Students arriving from 0266 with secure methods vocabulary find the transition manageable; students arriving with topic knowledge alone generally do not.

Dubai sixth forms do not all offer Psychology at A Level even where the school runs IGCSE Psychology, because staffing a small Year 12 group is harder than staffing a Year 10 option. Ask the sixth form directly, and ask whether the group ran in the current year rather than whether it is listed in the prospectus.

DPAges 16-19 · Years 12-13

IB Diploma Psychology

The other common sixth-form route in Dubai, offered at Standard and Higher Level. Diploma Psychology is assessed through written papers plus an internal assessment built around a simple experimental investigation, and it expects extended essay-style responses with explicit critical thinking. It is a different qualification from the Cambridge route rather than a harder version of it, and the writing conventions differ.

The International Baccalaureate accounts for 7% of Dubai private-school enrolment, and the emirate's 2026-27 intake adds three new IB schools among seven new openings creating 16,846 places. A student weighing the Cambridge and Diploma routes in Dubai now has more choice of school than in previous years, but a specific subject at a specific level still depends on one timetable.

Psychology at degree level

Universities in the UAE and abroad rarely require school psychology for a psychology degree, and some prefer Biology or Mathematics alongside it. What they do expect is comfort with research design and statistics, which is precisely the strand IGCSE candidates most often avoid. A student who takes the methods work seriously at 16 arrives at a degree with the part most first-year students struggle with already familiar.

Attestation and equivalency for a UAE university application sit with the Ministry of Education and the emirate authority, not with a school or a tutor. On the British track the published requirement is five accredited GCSE or IGCSE passes at no less than grade E or grade 3, excluding Arabic and Islamic education, alongside one Advanced Level pass at grade E or two Advanced Subsidiary passes.

Subject coverage

IB and IGCSE subjects we tutor

A 0266 course divides into strands that fail independently of one another. These are the strands a tutor works through, with what each actually demands. Confirm the exact content list against the syllabus document for your child's examination year.

The biological approach

Core strand

Behaviour explained through the brain, the nervous system, hormones and genetics. Strong on measurable evidence and on cases where physiology clearly drives behaviour; weak where culture or meaning is doing the work. Students over-apply it, because it feels the most scientific of the four.

The cognitive approach

Core strand

Behaviour explained through internal mental processing: memory, attention, perception, schemas. The models are the examinable content, and students must be able to describe a model and then say what evidence supports or undermines it rather than simply reciting the diagram.

The learning approach

Core strand

Behaviour as acquired, through classical and operant conditioning and through observation and imitation. The commonest error is mixing up the two forms of conditioning. A student who can state what is being paired and what is being reinforced will not make that error again.

The social approach

Core strand

Behaviour explained by the presence and influence of other people: obedience, conformity, group effects, situational pressure. This strand carries the best-known studies in psychology, which makes it the one students feel most confident about and the one where they most often describe instead of evaluating.

Research methods and study design

Technical strand, examined throughout

Experiments, observations, self-report, case studies and correlation, with hypotheses, variables, controls, sampling and reliability attached. Marks here go to precision rather than fluency, and the vocabulary recurs in questions across every other strand on the paper.

Named core studies

Examined by name

Each study needs a name, an aim, a method stated accurately, the findings and a conclusion, plus two or three evaluation points. Recognition is not recall. A study the student can discuss when prompted but cannot produce cold under timed conditions will not be available in the examination hall.

Research ethics

Examined across strands

Informed consent, deception, the right to withdraw, debriefing, confidentiality and protection from harm. These are not general good manners; they are the terms an examiner looks for. A student who writes that a study was unfair scores nothing where naming the breached principle scores.

Data handling and simple analysis

Quantitative element

Tables, bar charts and graphs, mean, median and mode, range, and the distinction between quantitative and qualitative data. Short, examinable and widely skipped in revision. Knowing which measure of central tendency suits a skewed data set is a two-session fix that pays every series.

Application and evaluation

The top mark bands

Taking a concept to an unseen scenario, and judging a study on stated grounds: sample, method, ethics, ecological validity, usefulness. This is where the difference between a middling and a strong grade is decided, and it is the strand least likely to be taught as a separate skill.

How sessions run

Tutoring formats built around UAE school timetables

Three formats cover how Dubai families use 0266 support. The distinction is what each one is for, because buying the wrong format is the most common way tutoring money is wasted in this subject.

Course-parallel teaching

A weekly session running alongside the school scheme of work, consolidating each strand as it is taught rather than at the end. This is the format that prevents the Year 11 problem, where a student meets three terms of accumulated gaps at once and has to choose which to repair.

  • Follows the school's own order of teaching, not a generic sequence
  • One named study secured properly each fortnight
  • Methods vocabulary added as each new design appears
  • Short cold recall check at the start of every session

Evaluation and application block

A focused block on the top mark bands, for students whose content knowledge is sound and whose marks are not. Sessions are spent writing evaluation points to a fixed structure and applying concepts to unseen scenarios, with the scaffold removed over several weeks.

  • Evaluation written on five stated grounds, one at a time
  • Unseen scenario questions worked in session, not set as homework
  • Each evaluation point tested for whether it could be credited
  • Scaffolding labelled first, removed by the end of the block

Methods and data clinic

A short run of sessions on research design and the quantitative element. Variables, hypotheses, sampling, reliability and validity, then tables, graphs and the measures of central tendency. Unglamorous, quick, and the strand most likely to be missing when a strong student scores unexpectedly low.

  • Each term defined in the student's own words then tested cold
  • One investigation designed from scratch, then critiqued
  • Graph and table questions worked from real past material
  • Measures of central tendency matched to data shapes

What IB and IGCSE study actually looks like in Dubai

01

What 0266 is, and how it differs from A Level and Diploma psychology

Families searching for psychology support in Dubai are often reading material written for a different qualification. The three school routes share a vocabulary and almost nothing else. Cambridge IGCSE Psychology 0266 introduces the approaches and a set of named studies at a level a 15-year-old can hold. Cambridge AS and A Level Psychology 9990 examines specified applied areas in depth and expects a candidate to design and critique investigations. IB Diploma Psychology is assessed through extended written responses plus an internal investigation, with explicit credit for critical thinking.

This matters practically. A tutor whose experience is entirely Diploma will teach a Year 10 student to write Diploma-length essays, which wastes a year of session time on a skill the 0266 paper does not ask for. A tutor whose experience is entirely IGCSE will under-prepare a Year 12 student. Asking which syllabus code the tutor has taken a cohort through, and in which series, resolves this in one question and is worth more than a conversation about teaching philosophy.

The table compares the three routes across the things that change what tutoring should do. Treat the content-depth and assessment rows as orientation rather than specification: confirm current structures in the Cambridge syllabus document for your child's examination year on cambridgeinternational.org, or with the Diploma coordinator for the IB route, because both organisations revise their documents on a cycle and outdated versions circulate freely online. The row worth reading twice is the last one. It says what tutoring should target on each route, and those targets barely overlap. Buying Diploma-style essay coaching for a 0266 candidate is not a cautious overspend; it is time spent on a skill the paper will not reward.

Four approaches, set against each other

Approaches are the backbone of 0266 and are almost always taught as a sequence of topics, which is why students can name four and use none. An approach is not a chapter. It is a claim about where behaviour comes from, and its value in an examination is that it generates an explanation for any behaviour a question puts in front of a candidate. The useful drill is therefore not what is the cognitive approach but what would each approach say about this same piece of behaviour.

Run that drill with one scenario, a child who becomes anxious before tests, and ask for four one-sentence explanations. The biological answer reaches for physiological arousal. The cognitive answer reaches for how the child is interpreting the situation. The learning answer reaches for what previous experience has reinforced. The social answer reaches for the influence of peers, parents and classroom expectations. Four genuinely different sentences means the approaches are usable. Four versions of the same sentence means the student has labels.

The table sets the approaches against each other with the cell that matters most in the final column: how each one is actually used in an answer. Note the explains-badly column. Evaluation marks in psychology frequently come from identifying what an approach cannot account for, so a student who knows the weakness of an explanation has an evaluation point ready before they have read the question. That is the cheapest preparation available in this subject.

THE APPROACHES AS COMPETING EXPLANATIONS OF THE SAME BEHAVIOUR
ApproachCore assumptionExplains wellExplains badlyHow it is used in an answer
BiologicalBehaviour has physical causes in body and brainConditions with clear physiological markersMeaning, culture and individual interpretationSupplies a mechanism, then invites a reductionism critique

03

The core topics a candidate carries, and how to hold a study

  • Five elements per study: name, aim, method, findings, conclusion
  • Two or three evaluation points attached to each, written down
  • Cold recall at the start of each session, four minutes, no prompts
  • The missing element logged by name rather than by a general sense of weakness
  • Topic list verified against the syllabus for the examination year

Beyond the approaches sits a body of topic content: memory and forgetting, perception, attachment and development, obedience and conformity, and the psychology of atypical behaviour among them. Confirm the precise list in the syllabus for your child's examination year, because the published content changes between syllabus versions and revision material written for an older one is widely available and widely mistaken for current.

What does not change is how a study has to be held. Five elements make a study usable: its name, its aim, its method stated accurately enough that somebody could repeat it, its findings, and its conclusion. Two or three evaluation points attach to each. A student who can produce those five elements cold, without a prompt, owns the study. A student who recognises it on a revision card does not, and the difference only becomes visible in a timed paper when the card is not there.

The practical method is a cold recall check at the start of every session, which takes four minutes and does more for retention than any amount of rereading. Name a study, the student produces the five elements aloud, the tutor notes which element was missing. Over a term that produces a short list of studies with a consistently missing element, usually the method, and the remedy is targeted rather than general. This is also the most honest progress evidence available in psychology, because it cannot be faked by familiarity with a tutor.

04

The research-methods terms that have to be exact

Psychology is a subject where loose vocabulary costs marks in a way loose thinking sometimes does not. Reliability and validity are different properties. Ecological validity is not a synonym for validity in general. A random sample is one in which every member of the population has an equal chance of selection, which is not the same as a sample the researcher did not plan carefully. Demand characteristics describe participants working out and responding to the study's purpose, not a researcher's expectations leaking out.

These distinctions recur across the paper rather than appearing in one methods question, which is why the methods block pays back more than any single topic. A student who can define the terms and attach a standard strength and limitation to each design has material available for evaluation questions on every strand. The drill is definition first, tested cold, then application to a described study, then critique.

The table lists the terms a 0266 candidate needs with the definition that scores, the sloppy version students actually write, and where it shows up. Parents can use the middle two columns as a test at home: ask for a definition, and if what comes back resembles the third column rather than the second, the methods block is the first thing to buy. It is also the cheapest thing to buy, because the content is small and fixed. Two further pairs deserve the same treatment. Quantitative and qualitative data are distinguished by the form of the evidence, not by how rigorous the study was. And a correlation describes a relationship between two measured variables without establishing that one caused the other, which is a sentence a candidate should be able to write without hesitating in any series.

METHODS VOCABULARY: THE DEFINITION THAT SCORES AGAINST THE ONE STUDENTS WRITE

05

Ethics: six words an examiner is looking for

Ethics questions are among the most reliably available marks in 0266 and among the most reliably missed. The reason is that students answer them morally rather than technically. Asked what is ethically wrong with a study, a candidate writes that it was unfair on the participants, or that it would not be allowed today. Both statements may be true and neither names a principle, so neither can be credited in the band that requires one.

Six terms do almost all the work: informed consent, deception, the right to withdraw, debriefing, confidentiality, and protection from harm. Each has a precise meaning and each has a standard remedy attached. Deception, for instance, is sometimes defensible if a debrief follows and the deception was necessary to the design; a student who can say that has an evaluation point rather than a complaint. A student who can also say what the researcher should have done instead has two.

A useful exercise, and one that works well over video because both parties can annotate the same text, is to take a described study and annotate it for all six principles in turn, marking each as satisfied, breached, or unclear. Unclear is an allowed answer and often the correct one, which surprises students who expect ethics to be a matter of right and wrong. The habit transfers directly to the A Level and Diploma routes, where ethical justification has to be written into a student's own investigation rather than applied to somebody else's.

06

A mark-band map: where candidates stop writing

Most psychology underperformance is not a knowledge failure. It is a stopping failure. A student answers the question as far as describing, and the marks beyond that point go uncollected because nobody told them a further move existed. Mapping that explicitly, question type by question type, is a fast intervention: the student is not learning new content, only learning where the end of an answer actually sits.

The pattern is consistent. On identify questions candidates over-write, spending four sentences where two words score, and lose the time later. On describe questions they explain, which is a different instruction. On evaluate questions they offer a general comment about the study being old or small rather than naming the ground and stating the consequence. On apply questions they describe the concept and then stop before touching the scenario at all, which is the single largest avoidable loss in the subject.

The table maps each question type against what earns the opening marks, what earns the top marks, and where the student typically stops. Used as a self-check, it converts a vague instruction to write more into a specific one: on an apply question, the last sentence must mention the person in the scenario by name. On an evaluate question, the last sentence must say what the weakness means for the conclusion. Those two rules alone move scripts. There is a reading habit behind this as well. Students who underline the command word and the number of marks before writing allocate their effort correctly roughly from the first attempt, and students who begin writing immediately usually do not. It costs ten seconds a question and is the only revision technique on this page that requires no knowledge at all.

Who may legally take money for private tuition in the UAE

Private tutoring in the UAE is a permitted activity with a permit attached, and families are entitled to ask about it. The private tuition work permit was introduced by Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023 and is issued through the Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation. It is granted free of charge for two years, which removes the most common excuse for not holding one. Eligible categories include teachers registered in government or private schools, employees in the government and private sectors, unemployed individuals, university students and school students aged 15 to 18.

The official route is the MoHRE service page for private tutor licensing, which lists no fee and a two-working-day completion time, applied for through the MoHRE smart app, website and e-services system. Individuals offering private tutoring without a permit are subject to fines and penalties outlined in the applicable laws. No fine schedule has been published, and a figure circulating online could not be verified during research for this page, so no amount is quoted here and any provider quoting one should be asked for a source.

A separate rule deserves a Dubai family's attention. A tutoring operation with premises and staff is a different legal entity from an individual tutor and needs a KHDA Educational Services Permit for a training institute, with initial approval first and annual renewal requested at least 30 days before expiry. In Abu Dhabi, ADEK's professional-ethics rules for private and charter school staff prohibit teachers from giving paid private tuition to students enrolled at their own school, a rule reported in the press that should be checked against the current ADEK policy document. Never engage your child's own class teacher privately without establishing the position first.

A twelve-session plan for a 0266 student who is stuck in the middle

  • Sessions 1-2: diagnosis across question types, studies and methods terms
  • Sessions 3-5: methods and data clinic, definitions tested cold
  • Sessions 6-8: the stopping problem on evaluate and apply questions
  • Sessions 9-10: cold recall rebuilt on the studies losing an element
  • Sessions 11-12: whole papers, timed and marked against the week-one baseline

The commonest 0266 request from a Dubai parent is about a student who revises, understands the material in conversation, and keeps scoring in the middle of the range. That pattern has a standard shape and a standard sequence of repairs, and twelve sessions is usually enough to work through it provided the diagnosis happens first rather than last.

Sessions one and two are diagnostic: a short written answer of each question type, marked, plus a cold recall check on three studies and a methods vocabulary test. That produces a specific list rather than a general worry. Sessions three to five run the methods and data clinic, because methods marks recur across the paper and the content is small. Sessions six to eight attack the stopping problem on evaluate and apply questions, using the mark-band map as an explicit checklist. Sessions nine and ten build cold recall on the studies that keep losing an element.

Sessions eleven and twelve are whole papers under timed conditions, marked, held beside the week-one answers. That is the first comparison that means anything, and it is also where timing problems become undeniable. Nobody can promise a grade from twelve sessions, and a provider who does should be treated with real scepticism. What can be said is that the stopping problem and the methods problem are both fast to fix, and that a marked baseline in week one tells you within a session which of them you are dealing with.

09

Getting started, and the honest position on availability

Starting takes three facts and one hour. The three facts are the board and syllabus code from the school entry form, the series the school is entering, and the most recent real mark with the paper it came from. The hour is a free trial lesson, one per subject, with no payment details taken beforehand, which ends with a short written answer marked on screen and a note on which of the standard problems is dominant.

The disclosure concerns supply. IGCSE Psychology is a small entry across the UAE, far smaller than Mathematics or the sciences, and the number of tutors in the region who have taken a cohort through 0266 to examination is limited. On a week when none of them has a slot, we will say so rather than place a general science or humanities tutor and hope the difference does not show. The alternatives we would put to a Dubai family are a specialist in another time zone whose availability suits a Dubai evening, a start date a few weeks out, or a short diagnostic engagement now with the main block starting when a specialist frees up.

What we will not do is describe a willing generalist as a specialist. In a subject where marks turn on exact methods vocabulary and on knowing where an answer stops, a capable teacher reading the syllabus a week ahead of the student produces lessons that feel productive and scripts that do not move. A marked paper makes that visible inside a month, which is an expensive way for a family to find out something that could have been said at the start.

Where we tutor

Areas we cover across Dubai

Live video removes the drive from the equation, which matters in a city where a 0266 specialist might be nowhere near a family's neighbourhood. What remains is scheduling, and that varies by community.

Motor City

Mixed townhouses and apartments with schools spread across the western corridor. Finish times vary widely between siblings, and families here tend to settle on one fixed weekday evening slot rather than chasing an after-school window.

Dubai Sports City

Dense apartment living with reliable connectivity. Study space is the limiting factor rather than bandwidth, and a session works best when a specific room and hour are agreed with the household in advance.

Jumeirah Golf Estates

Villa community a long way from much of the city's school cluster, which historically meant a steep travel premium on any in-home tutoring. Online removes that and widens the choice to tutors who have actually taught the syllabus.

Al Furjan

Rapidly grown community with a young cohort and schools still building out their upper secondary years. Option subjects here are the most likely to be undersubscribed, so check that psychology is timetabled before Year 10 begins.

Discovery Gardens

Apartment blocks with students travelling to schools across several emirate districts. Bus journeys are long, so a session before 5pm is rarely realistic during term and weekend slots hold better.

Dubailand and Town Square

Newer family communities at the southern edge of the city. Distance from the established school belt means longer commutes and later arrivals home, which shapes when written work set between sessions can actually be done.

Remraam

Quieter residential community with fewer nearby secondary options, so students often travel further to school than in central districts. A fixed weekend session is the most durable arrangement here across a full term.

Mirdif

Mixed-curriculum catchment where neighbours sit different qualifications. Confirm the board and code before the first session, since assumptions drawn from a neighbour's child are frequently wrong in this part of the city.

School ecosystem

Sports City, Motor City and Jumeirah Park

These schools are named to describe Dubai's curriculum landscape. IB Gram is an independent tutor-matching platform, has no affiliation with any school listed here, and claims no endorsement from any of them.

How matching works

From first enquiry to a tutor who fits

  1. 01

Send the code, the series and the last real mark

Take the board and syllabus code from the school entry form rather than from memory, and send the most recent mark with the paper it came from. A mark without a paper is not information. These three facts determine the level a tutor should pitch at and when the work has to start.

  2. 02

    Diagnose before any teaching

The trial lesson, free, one per subject, with no payment details taken beforehand, produces a short written answer and a cold recall check on one study. Whether the dominant problem is content, methods vocabulary or the stopping habit decides what the next six sessions do, and guessing wastes them.

  3. 03

    Fix the methods vocabulary early

Reliability, validity, ecological validity, sampling and demand characteristics recur in questions across every strand of the paper. The content is small and fixed, which makes it the highest return per session available in 0266 and the strand most often left until the final term.

  4. 04

    Make cold recall the routine

Four minutes at the start of each session: name a study, the student produces aim, method, findings and conclusion without a prompt. The missing element gets logged by name. Over a term this builds the only progress record in psychology that familiarity with a tutor cannot fake.

  5. 05

    Finish with timed whole papers

Two complete papers under examination conditions in the final fortnight, marked, kept beside the first diagnostic answers. This is the point at which a comparison carries meaning, and the point at which a timing problem stops being a suspicion.

Why families choose us

What UAE parents tell us matters most

Matched by syllabus code, not by subject name

A tutor is matched on having taught 0266 to examination, not on having studied psychology. The three school psychology routes differ enough that a Diploma specialist will teach a Year 10 student to write answers the Cambridge paper does not ask for, which costs a year of sessions.

Approaches taught as competing explanations

Four labels recited in order score nothing. Four different one-sentence explanations of the same behaviour score a great deal, and the weakness of each approach supplies an evaluation point before the question has even been read. That drill takes one session.

The data element is not skipped

Tables, graphs and the measures of central tendency are a small, examinable part of psychology that most revision material glosses over. Knowing which measure suits a skewed data set is two sessions of work and shows up in every series.

The permit position is stated with its source

The private tuition permit, its legal basis, its two-year validity and the fact that it carries no fee are set out with the official application route named. No fine amount is published anywhere official, so none is quoted here, and any provider quoting one should be asked where it came from.

Availability limits are disclosed first

0266 is a small entry in this region. If no tutor who has taught it to examination is free, we say so and set out the alternatives rather than placing a generalist and letting a marked paper reveal it in February.

Questions parents ask

IB and IGCSE tutoring in Dubai: your questions answered

What is Cambridge IGCSE Psychology 0266, and is it the same as A Level Psychology?+

It is the Cambridge Upper Secondary psychology course, usually taken in Years 10 and 11, introducing the main approaches to explaining behaviour, a set of named studies, the basics of research design and the ethical framework research operates inside. It is not a lighter version of Cambridge AS and A Level Psychology 9990. The A Level examines specified applied areas in far greater depth and expects candidates to design and justify investigations rather than recognise and critique them. A tutor should be asked which code they have taught to examination, because the two courses reward different writing.

Which approaches does my child need by name for 0266?+

The biological, cognitive, learning and social approaches do most of the work, with individual differences useful as a limit on any universal claim. Confirm the content for your child's examination year in the syllabus document, since published content changes between versions. The test of whether they are usable is not definition but application: given one scenario, such as a child who becomes anxious before tests, can your child produce four genuinely different one-sentence explanations? Four versions of the same sentence means labels rather than positions, and that gap closes in about two sessions of focused work.

How many core studies does a 0266 candidate have to know?+

Fewer than most students try to learn, held far better than most students hold them. A usable study has five elements the candidate can produce cold: its name, its aim, its method stated accurately, its findings and its conclusion, with two or three evaluation points attached. Recognition on a revision card is not recall. The practical routine is a four-minute cold check at the start of each session, with the missing element logged by name. Over a term that produces a short, specific list rather than a general sense that revision is not sticking.

What ethics terms is a 0266 answer expected to use?+

Informed consent, deception, the right to withdraw, debriefing, confidentiality and protection from harm. Ethics questions are among the most reliably available marks in the subject and among the most reliably missed, because students answer them morally rather than technically. Writing that a study was unfair on its participants cannot be credited where naming the breached principle can. A stronger answer names the principle, says whether it was breached, satisfied or unclear, and then states what the researcher should have done instead, which turns a complaint into two creditable points.

Does 0266 involve maths, and how much?+

A small but genuinely examinable amount. Candidates handle tables, bar charts and graphs, the mean, median and mode, the range, and the distinction between quantitative and qualitative data. A question asking which measure of central tendency suits a particular data set and why is entirely fair and catches students who chose psychology to avoid numbers. The quantity of content is small enough to cover properly in about two sessions, which makes it one of the cheapest grade improvements available in the course and one of the most commonly postponed until the final term.

Where do 0266 candidates in Dubai most often lose marks?+

By stopping too early rather than by not knowing enough. On describe questions they explain, which is a different instruction. On evaluate questions they say a study was old or small without saying what that means for the conclusion. On apply questions they define the concept correctly and never mention the person in the scenario, which is the single largest avoidable loss in the subject. Two rules fix most of it: on an apply question the last sentence must name the person in the scenario, and on an evaluate question the last sentence must state the consequence.

Is a 0266 tutor legally allowed to teach privately in the UAE?+

Private tuition in the UAE operates under a permit introduced by Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023 and issued through the Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation. It is granted free of charge for two years, and the eligible categories include school and government teachers, public and private-sector employees, unemployed individuals, university students and school students aged 15 to 18. The official application route is the MoHRE private tutor licensing service, which lists a two-working-day completion time. Those tutoring without a permit face fines and penalties under the applicable laws; no fine schedule is published, so no figure should be quoted to you.

Can my child take 0266 if their school does not timetable it?+

Sometimes, through private-candidate entry at an examination centre that accepts external candidates for that syllabus, but the practical barriers are real. The centre controls the entry and its deadline sits months before the papers, so the decision has to be made early. Start by asking the current school whether it will enter the student even if it does not teach the course, because that is far simpler than approaching centres independently. Cambridge allocates every centre to one of six administrative zones and states it is essential to use the correct timetable version for your zone.

Does 0266 help with applying to study psychology at a UAE university?+

It helps as preparation more than as a requirement. Most psychology degrees in the UAE and abroad do not demand school psychology, and some prefer Biology or Mathematics alongside it. What they do assume is comfort with research design and basic statistics, which is exactly the strand school candidates tend to avoid. A 0266 pass can count among the five accredited GCSE or IGCSE subjects at no less than grade E or grade 3 that the British-track equivalency requirement names, with Arabic and Islamic education excluded from that count. Verify current requirements with the Ministry.

How is 0266 different from IB Diploma Psychology in Dubai schools?+

They are separate qualifications rather than levels of one. Diploma Psychology, offered at Standard and Higher Level, is assessed through extended written responses plus an internal investigation the student designs and reports on, with explicit credit for critical thinking. 0266 is pitched at Years 10 and 11 and assessed by written examination, with shorter responses and a lighter research-design demand. A student moving from one to the other needs new writing conventions rather than more content, and a tutor who has only taught one route will pitch the other wrongly.

How many 0266 sessions a week does a Dubai student need?+

One weekly session of sixty minutes suits most students through Years 10 and 11, provided something is written between sessions. Psychology improves through producing answers and through cold recall, not through contact time, so a second weekly session with no work in between generally adds cost rather than marks. Families usually move to two sessions in the eight to twelve weeks before a series, with one spent writing under timed conditions and the other on the marking. A twelve-session block is the usual shape for a student stuck in the middle of the range.

Will a 0266 tutor come to our home in Dubai?+

No. IB Gram does not offer home visits in Dubai or anywhere else in the UAE; home visits are a service offered only in India. Psychology 0266 sessions run one-to-one over live video, with work screen-shared so both sides annotate the same page. For this subject the trade is favourable. IGCSE Psychology is a small entry across the Gulf, so the number of tutors who have taken a cohort through 0266 is limited, and narrowing that further to whoever can reach your address in Dubai traffic usually means accepting a generalist over a specialist.

Can a 0266 tutor support a school psychology investigation without breaking the rules?+

A tutor can teach research design, question a weak hypothesis until the student improves it, explain why a sampling choice is vulnerable, model the reasoning on a different investigation, and give detailed feedback on what the student has produced. A tutor cannot supply text for submission, decide the design on the student's behalf, or hand over analysis the student then presents as their own. The boundary is easiest to hold when the student's work is dated and marked after it is written rather than developed jointly, because authorship then is not a matter of anybody's recollection.

Is Year 10 or Year 11 the better time to start 0266 tutoring?+

Year 10, if the choice is free. A session running alongside the school scheme of work consolidates each strand as it is taught and keeps the methods vocabulary accurate from the start, which prevents the Year 11 problem of meeting three terms of accumulated gaps at once. Starting in Year 11 still works and is what most families do, but the sequence has to be compressed and diagnosis matters more because there is no time to discover the real problem slowly. Either way, a marked baseline in week one is what makes the plan rational.

Ask for a definition and a study

Two questions will tell you whether your child needs a Cambridge IGCSE Psychology 0266 tutor. Ask them to define reliability and validity without looking anything up. Then name one study from the course and ask for its aim, method, findings and conclusion, cold. If both answers come back clean, the course is in hand. If either wobbles, you have found the first six sessions. Send the board, code and series, take the free trial lesson, one per subject with no payment details taken beforehand, and you will have a marked answer and a specific starting point within the hour.
