IB DP Math AI SL Tutor in Dubai

An IB DP math AI SL tutor in Dubai is working on two technology-active papers, a statistics strand that absorbs more taught hours than any other topic in the course, and a twenty-mark exploration. Lessons run one-to-one over live video, timed to Gulf Standard Time so a session starts after the Dubai school run rather than in place of it. The first lesson costs nothing, and it begins with your child's calculator and one marked past-paper question rather than a sales conversation.

  • Every lesson is live and one-to-one; nothing is pre-recorded
  • Both AI SL papers assume a graphic display calculator throughout
  • Exploration work is feedback on your child's own drafts, never authorship
  • First lesson free, with a written note on what the marks showed

IB & IGCSE in Dubai

The course that is assessed with a calculator in both hands

Applications and Interpretation at Standard Level is the only IB Diploma mathematics route where a graphic display calculator is permitted in every written component. That single fact changes what tuition has to do. A student who is fluent on paper but slow on the machine loses marks that have nothing to do with understanding: a regression line typed into the wrong menu, a normal probability entered as a lower bound when the question wanted an upper one, a solver result copied to two decimal places when the question asked for three significant figures. An online IB maths tutor in Dubai can see all of this directly, because the calculator screen is shared rather than described.

The second thing that shapes the course is where its hours sit. The published guide gives AI SL roughly 16 hours to number and algebra, 31 to functions, 18 to geometry and trigonometry, 36 to statistics and probability, and 19 to calculus, with about 30 further hours for the toolkit and the exploration. Statistics is the largest single block, and it is the one most Dubai students arrive at with the least prior practice, because neither IGCSE nor the MYP asks for chi-squared tests, Spearman's rank or regression with interpretation attached. Families often book help for calculus and discover the marks were leaking in topic four all along.

Third, AI SL rewards writing in a way that surprises students who chose it to avoid writing. A correct value earns the method mark; the interpretation sentence earns the rest. Papers ask what the gradient means in the context of a fuel-consumption model, whether a correlation coefficient justifies a prediction outside the data range, what a residual tells you about the fit. Students who answer with numbers alone cap out in the middle bands. Tuition that only re-teaches content will not move that; tuition that marks a student's own sentences against the mark scheme will.

Dubai adds its own constraints. KHDA oversees 227 private schools in the emirate, which between them enrolled 387,441 pupils in 2024-25 across 17 curricula, with International Baccalaureate programmes accounting for 7 per cent of enrolment. A DP2 student in one of those schools is carrying six subjects, the core, mandatory Arabic or Islamic Education lessons on top, and a commute that can eat ninety minutes a day. The practical question for most families is not whether tuition helps but which ninety-minute slot in the week can carry it without costing sleep.

What follows is the detail: what the calculator audit finds, which function families the papers keep returning to, how the statistics strand is actually marked, whether AI SL satisfies the degree your child is aiming at, what the five exploration criteria are worth, what the Dubai market charges in AED, and what a tutor may and may not do with a draft. Nothing here is a promise about a grade. Every figure has a source or a caveat attached.

At a glance

  • Both AI SL papers are 90 minutes and both assume a graphic display calculator
  • Statistics and probability carries 36 of the course's 120 content hours
  • The exploration is 20 marks across five criteria and 20 per cent of the grade
  • Lessons are delivered one-to-one over live video, scheduled in Gulf Standard Time
  • Market rates for IB maths tuition in Dubai run roughly AED 150-450 per hour
IB programmes

Every IB programme stage, mapped to UAE school years

IB Gram covers the Diploma Programme in full and the three programmes that feed into it. For a Dubai family, the useful detail is not the age range but what each programme does to a student's readiness for AI SL in DP1.

DPAges 16-19 · Years 12-13

Diploma Programme

Six subjects, three at Higher Level, plus Theory of Knowledge, the Extended Essay and CAS. Mathematics is compulsory, which is why the AA or AI choice made in Year 11 follows a student for two years. AI SL sits at 150 taught hours with a 20-mark exploration and two 90-minute written papers, both technology-active.

Dubai runs the largest concentration of Diploma schools in the UAE, inspected annually by KHDA on a six-band scale. Most Dubai IB schools examine in the May session, which means DP2 students are finishing internal assessments in several subjects during the same winter weeks. That clustering, not the difficulty of any single topic, is what pushes families towards outside help in January and February.

MYPAges 11-16 · Years 7-11

Middle Years Programme

Five years of interdisciplinary study assessed against criteria rather than examinations, with optional eAssessment at the end. MYP mathematics is strong on investigation and modelling and lighter on the sustained algebraic manipulation that AI SL still expects in topic one and topic five.

Several Dubai schools run MYP to Year 11 and then offer both the Diploma and a British route, so an AI SL class in a Dubai school often mixes MYP leavers with IGCSE leavers. The two groups arrive with different gaps: MYP students are usually comfortable interpreting a model and less comfortable rearranging one, and the first few tutorials are spent working out which group a student belongs to.

CPAges 16-19 · Years 12-13

Career-related Programme

A smaller IB route combining DP courses with a career-related study and a personal and professional skills course. Students taking a DP mathematics course inside the CP sit the same papers and the same exploration as Diploma candidates, with the same mark scheme applied.

The Career-related Programme is offered by a small number of Dubai schools, and a CP student taking AI SL is examined identically to a DP student. Where the support differs is scheduling: CP timetables carry placement blocks, so the weekly tutorial often has to sit after the last timetabled period or at the weekend rather than inside a study block.

PYPAges 3-12 · FS1-Year 6

Primary Years Programme

Transdisciplinary inquiry across six themes with no external examinations. Mathematics is taught through units of inquiry, so number fluency varies widely between PYP settings, and that variation shows up years later in how quickly a DP student can work without a calculator.

Dubai has a long PYP presence, and parents of PYP children often ask what to do now to keep the AI or AA choice open later. The honest answer is arithmetic fluency and written reasoning rather than early algebra. A child who can explain why an answer is reasonable has the habit that both Diploma mathematics routes mark hardest.

Subject coverage

IB and IGCSE subjects we tutor

AI SL is the page's subject, and most families booking it also want one or two of the subjects below covered by the same scheduling arrangement. Each line says what the component actually assesses rather than listing topic names.

Mathematics: Applications and Interpretation

SL and HL

Two 90-minute technology-active papers plus a 20-mark exploration. Marks concentrate in statistics, probability and modelling with interpretation. The commonest diagnosable fault is calculator procedure rather than concept: correct model, wrong menu, or a value rounded before it is used again.

Mathematics: Analysis and Approaches

SL and HL

Paper 1 is sat without a calculator, which makes algebraic fluency non-negotiable. Students who move from AA SL into AI SL usually gain on statistics and lose nothing; students moving the other way find Paper 1 the hardest adjustment of the year.

Physics

SL and HL

Five themes assessed by two written papers and a scientific investigation worth 20 per cent. AI SL students taking Physics benefit from shared work on graphs, gradients and uncertainty, because the same skills are marked under two different mark schemes.

Chemistry

SL and HL

Structure and reactivity themes, with Paper 1 split into multiple choice and data-based questions. The data-based half rewards exactly the graph-reading and proportional reasoning that AI SL topic two and topic four also assess.

Biology

SL and HL

Four themes examined across two papers plus a scientific investigation. Statistical treatment of biological data, including error bars and simple significance testing, overlaps directly with the AI SL statistics block, so one tutor can often cover both.

Economics

SL and HL

Microeconomics, macroeconomics and the global economy, assessed by extended response, data response and, at Higher Level, a policy paper. AI SL students taking Economics meet index numbers, real values and elasticity calculations in both courses.

Business Management

SL and HL

Assessed on tools, concepts and a written commentary. The quantitative content, including break-even, investment appraisal and ratio analysis, is where AI SL students have an advantage and where non-mathematical students lose predictable marks.

Computer Science

SL and HL

Paper 1 and Paper 2 plus a solution. Algorithmic thinking and the handling of data structures reward the same step-by-step discipline that AI SL exploration work demands, and the two internal assessments can be planned against each other.

Psychology

SL and HL

Approaches, options and an internal assessment based on a replication of a simple experiment. The statistics in that report, including choosing an appropriate test, is a frequent reason Dubai psychology students ask for maths help.

Theory of Knowledge

Core

An exhibition and a prescribed-title essay. Mathematics is one of the areas of knowledge, and AI SL students often write stronger TOK work because modelling raises questions about assumptions that are easy to turn into knowledge claims.

How sessions run

Tutoring formats built around UAE school timetables

Three ways families use AI SL support in Dubai. All of them are delivered one-to-one over live video; IB Gram does not make home visits in Dubai, and in-home tutoring is a service offered only in India.

Weekly technique tutorial

One 60 or 90-minute live session a week through DP1 and DP2, built around the school's current unit and the calculator the school issued. The pattern suits a student whose understanding is sound and whose marks are dropping on procedure, rounding and interpretation sentences.

  • Screen sharing on the calculator, not a description of which buttons to press
  • One timed past-paper question marked against the published mark scheme each week
  • A short written note after every session naming the next thing to practise

Exploration clinic

A short block of sessions around the exploration, run strictly as feedback on drafts the student has already produced. The work covers choosing a question that can be answered with AI SL mathematics, structuring the mathematical communication, and reading the five criteria as a marker reads them.

  • Criterion-by-criterion feedback on the student's own draft
  • Dated version history kept so authorship is demonstrable if a school asks
  • No topic selection, calculation or prose supplied by the tutor

Exam-term intensive

Two or three sessions a week in the weeks before the written papers, each anchored on a full timed paper sat at home and marked before the lesson. The session is spent on the script, not on fresh content, because new teaching that late rarely converts into marks.

  • Full 90-minute papers sat under timed conditions and returned marked
  • A running log of which topic and which command word cost marks
  • Weekend blocks for families in Mirdif, Ranches and other long-commute areas

What IB and IGCSE study actually looks like in Dubai

01

The calculator audit: what an AI SL script reveals in the first session

  • Six questions, screen shared, narrated aloud by the student
  • Faults sorted into concept, procedure, rounding and command-word error
  • The calculator model recorded and used for every session afterwards
  • A written note a parent can take to the school

An IB DP math AI SL tutor in Dubai should be able to tell you within one session whether the problem is mathematics or machinery. The audit is simple. The student is given six questions of a kind that appear on both AI SL papers, told to use the calculator exactly as they would in the examination, and asked to narrate what they are doing while the screen is shared. Six questions is enough, because the faults repeat.

The pattern that shows up most often in Dubai classrooms is a student who knows what a chi-squared test is for and cannot reach it in under ninety seconds. Another is a student who finds a regression line correctly and then types the rounded gradient back into the model, losing accuracy marks on every subsequent part. A third is a student who uses the solver for an equation the question wanted solved analytically, which is permitted, and then cannot show enough working to earn the method marks. None of these is a gap in understanding, and none of them is fixed by re-teaching the topic.

The audit also tells a parent something a report card cannot: whether the calculator in the bag is the one the student can actually use. Dubai schools issue different models, and a student who revised on a borrowed machine over the summer will sit the paper on a different key layout. We note the model at the first session and work only on that model from then on, because the muscle memory is the point.

The output of the audit is a one-page note: the six questions, what the screen showed, which marks were lost and to what cause. It is deliberately boring. A parent should be able to read it, hand it to the school, and have the conversation at the next parents' evening with evidence rather than impressions.

Modelling at AI SL: the function families the papers keep returning to

AI SL modelling questions are not open-ended. They draw on a small set of function families, and a student who can recognise which family a context belongs to has already earned the first two marks. The families are linear, quadratic, exponential growth and decay, sinusoidal, and piecewise. Logistic and power models appear at Higher Level more often than at Standard Level, but an AI SL paper can still show a scatter of data and ask which of two models fits better.

Recognition is taught by context, not by formula. Population with a ceiling behaves differently from population without one. Cooling and radioactive decay share a shape. Tide heights, daylight hours and temperature over a year are sinusoidal; delivery charges and tax bands are piecewise. Dubai contexts come up often enough in school-written assessments that it is worth practising them deliberately: a metro fare structure is piecewise, a summer temperature curve is sinusoidal, and a property-value question is usually exponential with a stated rate.

The marks after recognition sit in two places. The first is parameter meaning: what the amplitude represents, why the vertical shift is there, what the base of the exponential says about the rate per unit time. The second is the limitation sentence. Every modelling question that asks for a prediction is also asking whether the prediction is safe, and a student who extrapolates to a year outside the data without saying so has lost a mark that costs nothing to earn.

Tutorial work on modelling is therefore split: twenty minutes on fitting with the calculator, twenty on writing the interpretation to a mark scheme, twenty on the limitation. Students who do only the first part continue to score in the middle of the paper no matter how many questions they attempt.

03

Statistics carries the most hours at AI SL, and most of its marks are in the writing

  • Chi-squared, Spearman's rank and regression are new to most AI SL starters
  • Hypotheses, degrees of freedom and a contextual conclusion are all marked separately
  • Correlation questions test whether a prediction is justified, not just computed
  • Outliers are deliberately planted in school and examination datasets alike

Thirty-six of the roughly 120 content hours in AI SL go to statistics and probability. That is more than calculus and functions receive individually, and it is the block where Dubai students most often arrive without prior exposure. Neither the IGCSE syllabuses commonly taught in Dubai nor MYP mathematics asks a student to run a chi-squared test, calculate Spearman's rank correlation, or decide whether a sample justifies a conclusion.

The technical content is manageable in a term. What takes longer is the discipline of writing the conclusion. A chi-squared question is worth little if the student reports the test statistic and stops. The mark scheme wants the hypotheses stated, the degrees of freedom shown, the comparison made against the critical value or the significance level, and a sentence that names the two variables and says whether the evidence supports independence. Students lose one or two marks per question on that sentence alone, across a paper where such questions are common.

Correlation is the other recurring trap. A student who reports a correlation coefficient of 0.87 and calls it strong has done the easy half. The marks sit in whether correlation licenses a causal statement, whether the data range supports the prediction being asked for, and whether an outlier is doing the work. Dubai school-based assessments frequently use local datasets, including rainfall, visitor numbers and fuel prices, where the outlier is obvious once a student is in the habit of looking.

Tutorial practice here is repetitive on purpose. Four questions a week, each written out in full, each marked against the published scheme, until the conclusion sentence is automatic. It is the least glamorous part of AI SL tuition and reliably the part that moves a grade.

04

Does Applications and Interpretation SL open the degree your child wants?

This is the question that brings most Dubai families to an AI SL page in DP1 rather than DP2, and it deserves a straight answer rather than reassurance. AI SL is a full IB Diploma mathematics course and satisfies the mathematics requirement of the Diploma itself. What it does not always satisfy is the mathematics prerequisite set by a specific university for a specific degree, and those prerequisites are published by the universities, not by the IB.

The pattern across published entry requirements is consistent enough to plan around. Engineering, physics, mathematics and most quantitative finance degrees in the United Kingdom typically ask for Analysis and Approaches at Higher Level, and a minority accept Applications and Interpretation at Higher Level. Medicine and dentistry usually specify chemistry and biology rather than a mathematics level. Business, economics at many institutions, psychology, architecture, law and the humanities commonly accept either course at Standard Level. Universities inside the UAE publish their own requirements, and several accept an IB Diploma with any mathematics course alongside a subject-specific test.

The practical advice is to check three named universities and the exact degree title before the subject-change window closes in DP1, and to check the current year's requirement rather than a forum post. A requirement written for 2024 entry may have moved. Where a student discovers in DP2 that the target degree wants AA HL, the realistic routes are a different degree choice, a foundation year, or a mathematics module taken after school rather than a mid-course transfer, which is rarely feasible that late.

A tutor's job in that conversation is to be useful and not to sell. If a student is capable of AA SL and aiming at a degree that needs it, saying so in DP1 is worth more than two years of AI SL sessions. Separately, the UAE Ministry of Education equivalency process for certificates has its own documented requirements, and no tutoring arrangement is required for it.

Criterion A to E on the exploration, and where a tutor must stop

The AI SL exploration is 20 marks and 20 per cent of the grade, assessed against five criteria. Criterion A, presentation, is worth 4. Criterion B, mathematical communication, is worth 4. Criterion C, personal engagement, is worth 3. Criterion D, reflection, is worth 3. Criterion E, use of mathematics, is worth 6. The guide recommends a length of about 12 to 20 pages. Those numbers are the whole reason the exploration is winnable: a student who reads the criteria before choosing a topic can plan for marks that most candidates lose by accident.

The commonest failure is not weak mathematics. It is a topic that leaves no room for reflection, or mathematics at a level the criteria cannot reward, or presentation that buries the reasoning under screenshots. Criterion E rewards mathematics commensurate with the course and used correctly; a student who runs a single regression and stops will cap low on E no matter how neatly the document is laid out. Equally, a student who imports university-level statistics they cannot explain gains nothing, because the criterion rewards understanding rather than ambition.

Where a tutor stops matters more than what a tutor covers. Under IB academic honesty rules the exploration must be the student's own work, and the school signs it off on that basis. A tutor may discuss how the criteria are read, give feedback on a draft the student has produced, point out that a section does not address reflection, and teach a technique the student then applies. A tutor may not choose the topic, supply the dataset analysis, rewrite passages, or hand over prose. We keep a dated history of drafts received and comments given, so that if a school ever asks, the authorship record exists.

The practical sequence we use is: the student proposes three candidate questions, the tutor says which are answerable with AI SL mathematics and why, the student picks one, and feedback from then on is criterion-referenced only. That boundary is a selling point rather than a limitation. Essay mills in this market sell completed internal assessments; an IB student who submits one risks a malpractice finding and the loss of the Diploma.

The timetable squeeze: Arabic, Islamic Education and Social Studies alongside the Diploma

A Dubai Diploma student is not carrying six subjects and the core alone. Arabic, Islamic Education and Social and Moral Studies are mandatory in all Dubai private schools regardless of the licensed international curriculum, under KHDA requirements that schools were told to implement by the start of the 2025-26 academic year. For a DP2 student, those lessons occupy periods that in another country would be study time, and that is the single biggest constraint on when an AI SL tutorial can sit.

The detail matters because the requirements are not uniform. KHDA requires separate classes for Arabs and non-Arabs in Arabic as a first language, Islamic Education and Social Studies, and states that combined classes for both groups are strictly prohibited because of different curriculum expectations and language of instruction. Standard Arabic is required as the main language of instruction for Islamic Education for Arabs and for Arabic as a first language, with the school's licensed-curriculum language used for non-Arabs in Islamic Education and in Moral, Social and Cultural studies. Instructional time is calculated on a 40-minute lesson unit, and KHDA advises that any mandatory-subject lesson runs at least 25 minutes.

Two things follow for a family planning tuition. First, the week has less slack than the subject count suggests, so the realistic question is which single 90-minute block is protected rather than how many sessions can be squeezed in. Second, Arabic itself is often the subject a DP student is quietly behind in, and an AI SL tutorial that eats the only Arabic revision slot has moved the problem rather than solved it.

We schedule around this by asking for the school timetable at the start, not the third week. Where a student needs support in both mathematics and Arabic, the sensible pattern is one long mathematics session and two short Arabic sessions rather than four equal blocks, because mathematics technique needs continuous time and language retention needs frequency.

What AI SL support costs in Dubai, and what each band includes

Published rates in the Dubai tutoring market, read in October 2026, fall into clear bands. University-student and budget online providers advertise from roughly AED 33 to AED 65 an hour. Qualified subject tutors working online are commonly quoted between AED 150 and AED 300. In-home one-to-one visits, which include the tutor's travel, run around AED 180 to AED 500 depending on area and subject. IB and A-Level specialists sit at roughly AED 200 to AED 450 and above, and premium named or examiner-branded tutors have been advertised as high as AED 650. Monthly packages seen in the same market include about AED 799 a month for eight online sessions and AED 1,599 to AED 1,799 a month for four two-hour in-home sessions.

Those are market figures, not an IB Gram price list. What the bands buy, though, is worth unpicking, because the hourly number hides most of the difference. A cheap hour is usually contact time only: no marking between sessions, no written note, no mark scheme work. A specialist hour at the top of the range usually includes a marked script returned before the lesson, which is where the diagnostic value sits. A family paying AED 150 for four sessions a month and a family paying AED 300 for two are often buying the same total teaching, and the second arrangement frequently moves a grade faster because the evidence trail exists.

The second variable specific to this emirate is travel. An in-home rate in Dubai carries the drive, and in practice that both raises the hourly figure and narrows the pool to tutors who happen to live within reach. For a course as specific as AI SL, that trade is poor value: a Dubai Marina family choosing by postcode is choosing from whoever can reach the Marina at 5pm, while the same family choosing online is choosing from every AI SL specialist available in the time zone.

On our own pricing, the honest position is that it depends on level, session length and how much marking sits between sessions, and that the first lesson is free with no card required. We publish the market bands so a parent can judge any quote, ours included, against something other than the next advertisement.

Counting backwards from the exam window without inventing a date

Most Dubai IB schools examine in the May session, and the planning value of that fact lies in what has to be finished months earlier. We do not publish IB session or results dates on these pages, because the IB's own site blocks automated checking and an unverified date is worse than none. Confirm every IB date with your school's Diploma coordinator or on ibo.org, and treat anything else, including this page, as a prompt to check.

What can be stated with a source is how far ahead examination boards set their deadlines, and the shape is instructive. Cambridge International examines UAE candidates in a June series and a November series; entries for the June papers close in the spring, more than a term ahead of the first one, and the exact date reaches the centre on its statement of entry rather than being published as a round number. Cambridge also allocates every centre to one of six administrative zones and states that it cannot accept responsibility for candidates who miss an exam after using the wrong zone timetable. Pearson Edexcel publishes International GCSE series in May/June and November, with provisional timetables released ahead of each series precisely because dates can be revised; its November 2026 timetable ran to 19 November 2026. The lesson for an IB family is the same: the administrative deadlines sit far earlier than the examination, and they are set by the school rather than by the student.

The milestones that actually control a DP2 year are internal. The school sets its own exploration deadline, usually with a first-draft date and a final-submission date months apart. Mocks are set by the school and are the first realistic grade signal. Predicted grades are produced by teachers from evidence they already hold, which is why the quality of the evidence a student generates in the autumn matters more than the effort they put in during the final fortnight.

Our planning table below is deliberately date-free for the IB components and relative instead, so it stays correct between sessions. A family should fill in the actual dates from the school's own calendar at the first session and work backwards from there.

Who may legally be paid to tutor in Dubai, and what happens if no AI SL specialist is free

  • The MoHRE private tuition work permit is free of charge and valid for two years
  • No fine amount for unpermitted tutoring is published, so none should be quoted
  • A tutoring business with premises in Dubai needs a separate KHDA permit
  • Where no AI SL specialist is free in your slot, we say so rather than substitute

Private tutoring in the UAE is regulated by permit. The MoHRE private tuition work permit was introduced by Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023, is granted free of charge for two years, and is open to teachers registered at government or private schools, employees in the government and private sectors, unemployed residents, university students, and school students aged 15 to 18. The official application route is MoHRE's own service, Issuance of a New Work Permit - Private Tutor Licensing, which lists no fee and a two-working-day completion time through the MoHRE smart app, website and e-services system. Individuals offering private tutoring without a permit are subject to fines and penalties under the applicable laws; no fine schedule is published, so no amount should be quoted to you by anyone.

Two further points a Dubai parent can check directly. An operation with premises and staff in Dubai is a different legal entity from an individual tutor and needs a KHDA Educational Services Permit for a training institute, so any claim of regulator approval should come with a permit number. And in Abu Dhabi, ADEK's professional-ethics rules bar school staff from paid private tutoring of students enrolled at their own school, with the MoHRE permit code of conduct carrying a similar bar; that is reported policy and worth verifying against the current document before relying on it.

On availability, the honest version. AI SL is a widely taught course and a UAE-based specialist is usually free within a few days. Where a family wants a specific pattern, such as two sessions a week at 4.30pm in term time, the slot sometimes cannot be filled by a UAE-based tutor at all. In that case we say so, offer the nearest available slot, and where appropriate offer a specialist in another time zone whose working hours overlap Gulf Standard Time. What we do not do is accept a booking and allocate whoever is free.

If no suitable tutor is available at all, the booking does not go ahead and nothing is charged. That is a smaller promise than the market usually makes, and it is the one we can keep. A matching conversation that ends in a straight no is more useful to a DP2 family in February than a tutor who has not taught the course.

Where we tutor

Dubai communities we schedule AI SL lessons around

Delivery is online everywhere in Dubai, so the area matters for timing rather than travel. What differs between communities is school finish time, the length of the bus route home and the hour at which a 15-year-old is still able to concentrate.

Dubai Marina and JLT

High-rise households with short school runs but heavy afternoon lift traffic in the towers. A 4.30pm start is usually realistic; a 3.45pm start is not, because buses from Al Barsha and Al Sufouh schools arrive later than parents expect.

Arabian Ranches and Dubai Hills

Villa communities feeding several Diploma schools. School buses on the Ranches routes can take 50 minutes in either direction, so weekday sessions here work best at 5.30pm or later, with longer weekend blocks in the exam term.

Jumeirah and Umm Suqeim

Short commutes to Jumeirah and Al Safa schools, which makes a 4pm weekday slot workable. Families here more often ask for two shorter sessions a week than one long one, because the beach-road sports timetable fragments the evenings.

Downtown Dubai and Business Bay

Apartment living with parents frequently working until 7pm. Sessions are commonly booked after Maghrib, and the recorded session note matters more here because a parent is often not in the room when the lesson happens.

Al Barsha and Barsha Heights

Dense school cluster, so students in the same AI SL class often live within a few streets of each other. We keep siblings and classmates on separate tutors unless a family asks otherwise, because shared exploration topics create an authorship question nobody needs.

Mirdif and Dubai Festival City

Deira-side communities with long cross-city school runs to Jumeirah and Al Quoz. Evening slots after 6pm are the norm, and Saturday mornings are the most reliable block for timed paper practice under exam conditions.

Dubai Silicon Oasis and Academic City

Close to several university campuses, which is where older siblings often sit the SAT. Families here regularly ask whether AI SL and SAT Math preparation can share a session; they can, but the rounding and notation conventions differ and have to be taught apart.

Jumeirah Village Circle and Al Furjan

Newer communities with fast-growing school enrolment and a mix of IB and British routes in the same street. The common request is a decision conversation first: whether to stay on AI SL or move, before any topic teaching starts.

How matching works

From first enquiry to a tutor who fits

  1. 01

Tell us the calculator and the school

The two facts that shape the first session are the calculator model your child was issued and which school scheme of work the class is following. Both go on the booking form, along with the timetable, so the first lesson starts on the right key layout and the right unit.

  2. 02

Free first lesson, spent on a calculator audit

The first session is free and is not a sales call. Six questions, screen shared, narrated aloud, and a written note afterwards listing which marks were lost and why. If the note says your child does not need tuition, it says that.

  3. 03

    Agree the weekly pattern

One 90-minute session suits most DP students; two shorter ones suit students who are behind on statistics and need frequency. We fix the slot against the school timetable, including mandatory Arabic and Islamic Education periods, before any sessions are scheduled.

  4. 04

    Marked papers between sessions

From the second week, a timed question or a full paper is sat at home, returned and marked before the next lesson. The session is then spent on the script. This is the part that generates the evidence a predicted grade is eventually built from.

  5. 05

    Review at six weeks

After roughly six sessions we compare the mark log against the audit. The three honest outcomes are to continue, to change the focus, or to stop because the gap has closed. We write down which one and why, and parents receive it in plain language.

Why families choose us

What UAE parents tell us matters most

The calculator is treated as part of the subject

AI SL is assessed with technology in both papers, so technique on the specific machine your child owns is taught rather than assumed. Screen sharing makes that possible in a way that sitting beside a student with a textbook does not.

A specialist, not the nearest available tutor

Choosing online rather than by postcode means choosing from every AI SL specialist whose hours overlap Gulf Standard Time instead of whoever can reach your community by 5pm. For one named course at one level, that is the difference that matters.

Evidence a parent can read

Every session leaves a written note, and every marked paper goes into a log by topic and command word. A parent can take that to a school meeting. Impressions about effort are not evidence; a mark log is.

A stated line on academic honesty

Exploration support is criterion-referenced feedback on the student's own drafts, with a dated history kept. We do not select topics, supply analysis or hand over prose, because the student signs an authorship declaration and the consequences of a malpractice finding fall on them.

Figures with sources, not adjectives

Market rates on this page are published Dubai figures from October 2026, regulator facts come from KHDA, MoHRE and u.ae, and IB session dates are deliberately absent because they could not be verified. Anything we cannot source, we leave out.

Questions parents ask

IB and IGCSE tutoring in Dubai: your questions answered

Was Applications and Interpretation SL the right route for my child?+

It depends on the degree intention more than on the student. AI SL is a full Diploma mathematics course with heavy statistics and modelling content and a calculator permitted throughout, which suits students heading for business, psychology, architecture, law, the humanities and many economics programmes. It is usually not sufficient for engineering, physics, mathematics or actuarial degrees at selective universities, which commonly ask for Analysis and Approaches at Higher Level. The practical test is to look up three named universities and the exact degree title in the current admissions year, before the DP1 subject-change window closes. If the requirement says AA HL and the student is capable of it, that conversation is worth having early.

Which calculator does my child need for Maths AI SL in a Dubai school?+

The school decides, and in Dubai the two common families are Texas Instruments and Casio graphic display calculators on the IB's permitted list. The model matters for tuition because the menu paths differ: a regression analysis on one machine is three keystrokes and on another it is five, in a different order. We record the model at the first session and work only on that one, since the point of practice is muscle memory under time pressure. A student who revises on a borrowed machine and sits the paper on their own will lose minutes they cannot spare. Check the school's permitted list before buying anything.

Will Maths AI SL be accepted for an engineering degree?+

At most selective engineering faculties, no. Published entry requirements for engineering typically specify Analysis and Approaches at Higher Level, with a minority of institutions accepting Applications and Interpretation at Higher Level. AI at Standard Level is rarely enough on its own. The routes if a student discovers this in DP2 are a different degree choice, an engineering foundation year, or a university that accepts the Diploma with a separate mathematics assessment. A mid-course transfer from AI SL to AA HL that late is seldom realistic. Requirements change between admissions cycles, so verify on each university's own course page rather than on a forum or a tutoring site.

Do UAE universities treat Maths AI SL and Maths AA SL the same?+

Universities inside the UAE set their own entry requirements and publish them per programme, so the answer varies by institution and degree rather than by country. Several accept an IB Diploma with either mathematics course for business, media, design and social science programmes, while engineering and computer science faculties more often specify a level or require a mathematics placement test after admission. Separately, the UAE Ministry of Education runs an equivalency process for secondary certificates with its own documented requirements, which is not the same thing as a university prerequisite. Check the programme page, then confirm with the admissions office, and do not rely on a general statement about the IB.

How do we tell whether the problem is the maths or the calculator?+

By watching the screen. In the first session a student works six questions of examination type with the calculator shared and narrates each step aloud. Concept gaps and procedure gaps look completely different under that light. A student who cannot set up a chi-squared test has a concept problem; a student who sets it up correctly and takes ninety seconds to find the menu has a procedure problem; a student who reaches the right statistic and omits the conclusion sentence has neither. The three need different lessons, and a term spent re-teaching content to a student with a procedure problem is a term wasted. The audit output is a written note listing which fault cost which marks.

What does the AI SL exploration have to contain to reach the top criterion bands?+

Twenty marks sit across five criteria: presentation worth 4, mathematical communication worth 4, personal engagement worth 3, reflection worth 3 and use of mathematics worth 6. Reaching the upper bands needs mathematics at the level of the course used correctly, notation that is defined and consistent, a structure a reader can follow, genuine evidence of the student's own thinking, and critical discussion of results and limitations rather than a summary. The guide recommends roughly 12 to 20 pages. Most lost marks are structural rather than mathematical: a topic chosen with no room for reflection, or analysis that stops at one calculation. Reading the criteria before choosing the question prevents both.

My daughter can do the modelling but loses marks on the write-up. What fixes that?+

Marking her own sentences against the published scheme, weekly, until the pattern is automatic. AI SL questions that ask for a model almost always also ask what a parameter means in context and whether a prediction is safe. Those are separate marks from the fitting, and they are awarded for specific content: a rate with units, a statement about extrapolating beyond the data range, a named limitation. A student who writes numbers alone caps in the middle bands however many questions she attempts. The tutorial pattern is twenty minutes fitting, twenty minutes writing interpretation to the scheme, twenty minutes on limitations, repeated until the third part stops being an afterthought.

How many AI SL sessions a week does a DP2 student in Dubai need?+

One 90-minute session a week carries most students through DP2 if a timed paper is sat and marked between sessions. Two shorter sessions suit a student who is behind on statistics, because retention there responds to frequency rather than length. In the weeks immediately before the written papers, families often move to two or three sessions built entirely around marked scripts. More than three is usually a sign that something else is wrong, such as a subject-level mismatch or a sleep problem caused by a long commute. We would rather say that than sell the extra hours.

Can Arabic and Islamic Education lessons be worked around an AI SL tutorial slot?+

They have to be, because they are mandatory in all Dubai private schools regardless of the international curriculum the school is licensed for, under KHDA requirements with instructional time calculated on a 40-minute lesson unit. That means a Dubai Diploma student has less free time in the week than a six-subject timetable suggests. We ask for the school timetable at booking and fix the mathematics slot around those periods. Where a student also needs Arabic support, the pattern that works is one long mathematics session plus two short language sessions, since technique needs continuous time and language retention needs frequency.

What does Maths AI SL tuition cost per hour in Dubai in 2026?+

Published Dubai rates read in October 2026 run from roughly AED 33 to AED 65 an hour for budget online providers, AED 150 to AED 300 for a qualified online subject tutor, AED 180 to AED 500 for an in-home visit including the tutor's travel, and AED 200 to AED 450 and above for an IB specialist, with premium named tutors advertised up to AED 650. Monthly packages of about AED 799 for eight online sessions appear in the same market. Those are market figures rather than our price list. What changes the number most is whether marking between sessions is included, because that is where the diagnostic value sits.

Is it too late to start AI SL support in the second term of DP2?+

No, but the plan has to change. With a term left, new content teaching rarely converts into marks, so the work becomes full timed papers sat at home, marked before the lesson, and sessions spent entirely on the script. The gains available that late are mostly procedural: calculator speed, rounding discipline, the interpretation sentence, the limitation sentence, and question selection within the paper. Those are real marks and they are recoverable. What is not recoverable in a term is a missing year of statistics. We will say which situation a student is in after the first marked paper rather than before.

How does the UAE Ministry of Education equivalency process treat a maths grade?+

Equivalency is a certificate-recognition process run by the Ministry of Education, not a university admission rule, and its published requirements are specific to the curriculum. For the British track, the documented requirement is five accredited subjects in GCSE or IGCSE certificates at no less than grade E or grade 3, with Arabic and Islamic education not counted among the five, plus one A-Level at no less than E or two AS-Levels at the same grade. For the American track, mathematics requires at least 450 in the SAT Math test. No IB points threshold should be quoted to you unless it has been read on the Ministry's own site. Verify through the official channel; no tutoring is required for the process.

Can a tutor check my son's exploration without crossing the IB honesty line?+

Yes, within clear limits. A tutor may explain how the five criteria are read, give feedback on a draft the student has already produced, point out that reflection or limitations are absent, and teach a technique using a different worked example that the student then applies. A tutor may not choose the topic, perform the analysis, rewrite passages or supply prose. The exploration is submitted with an authorship declaration and the consequences of a malpractice finding fall on the student, including loss of the Diploma. We keep a dated record of drafts received and comments returned so the authorship trail exists if a school asks for it.

What should we see in writing after four AI SL sessions?+

Four things. The calculator audit note from the first session, listing the six tasks and the marks lost. A mark log with one row per timed question or paper, showing topic, command word and marks gained against marks available. A short note after each session naming the next thing to practise. And a plain statement of what has moved and what has not. If the log shows no movement after four weeks, the right response is to change the focus or the tutor, not to add sessions. We will put that in writing too, because a parent paying for evidence should not have to infer it.

What happens if no Maths AI SL specialist is free at our preferred time?+

We tell you before anything is booked. AI SL is widely taught and a UAE-based specialist is usually available within a few days, but a specific recurring slot, such as 4.30pm twice a week in term time, sometimes cannot be filled locally. The options we offer are the nearest available slot, a specialist in another time zone whose working hours overlap Gulf Standard Time, or nothing at all if neither works. Nothing is charged where no suitable tutor is available. Allocating whoever happens to be free to a named course at a named level is how families end up paying for generic maths help.

Start with the calculator audit, not with a package

An IB DP math AI SL tutor in Dubai is worth booking once you know what is actually costing marks. The first lesson is free, it is spent on six examination-type questions with the calculator screen shared, and it ends with a written note you can take to the school. If that note says your child does not need weekly tuition, it will say so. If it shows a procedure problem in statistics or a missing interpretation sentence, the work from there is specific and measurable. Lessons run one-to-one over live video, scheduled in Gulf Standard Time around the school timetable and mandatory Arabic and Islamic Education periods.
