IB & IGCSE in Dubai

Pricing a 0450 tutor in Dubai before you speak to anybody

Business Studies 0450 is rarely the subject a Dubai family panics about first. Maths, the sciences and English get the early money. Business Studies turns up in February of Year 11, when a mock paper comes back at a grade 5 and the option block suddenly matters because it is one of the five subjects that will carry a Ministry of Education equivalency file later. By then the budget is already committed elsewhere, which is why the question parents type is about cost rather than pedagogy.

So this page starts with the number. Market rates in Dubai for a qualified subject tutor working online run roughly AED 150 to 300 an hour; Unitors publishes IGCSE tuition from AED 150 and IB from AED 200. A specialist with exam-board depth sits in the AED 200 to 450 band, with TutorChase quoting AED 270 and Bestimate's 2026 Dubai rate table reaching AED 450 and above. An in-home visit, travel included, is quoted between AED 180 and 500 depending on the community and the hour. Budget online tutoring starts far lower: EdFlik advertises from AED 45 to 65, Tutopiya from AED 33 to 52.

Those five bands are not five levels of quality. They are five different products, and the difference between them for a 0450 candidate is specific. A tutor at the bottom of the range can usually teach the content of the six topic areas. A tutor at the top can look at a Paper 2 case-study answer, point at the sentence where the analysis stopped and the evaluation should have started, and explain which assessment objective was left unpaid. The grade gap between those two tutors is concentrated in about twenty marks of the exam, and this page is largely about whether those twenty marks are worth the price difference for your child.

The second thing that moves the number is where you are in Dubai and when you want the lesson. A 4.30pm slot is cheap and usually impossible, because school runs from Jumeirah to Al Barsha are still moving. A 7pm slot in Dubai Hills is the most contested hour in the city and is priced that way. An in-home tutor crossing from Mirdif to Emirates Hills for a single hour is pricing ninety minutes of Sheikh Zayed Road into your bill whether the invoice itemises it or not. Online removes that line, and removes the geography constraint on who can teach your child.

The honest position on the search term: IB Gram does not run in-home visits anywhere in the UAE, and home visits are a service we offer only in India. Everything described here is delivered one-to-one over live video to families in Dubai. The comparison table further down sets the two formats side by side on cost, travel, tutor pool and scheduling, and lets you decide. What we will not do is quote a home-visit rate we have no intention of honouring.

Nothing on this page is a promise about a grade. No tutor can promise a specific outcome in 0450 or any other syllabus, and a quote that comes attached to a grade target should be read with real scepticism. What a tutor can be held to is the thing you are actually paying for: marked papers back within a stated window, a written note of which assessment objective is costing marks, and a session plan that names the topic area it is working on.

IB programmes

Every IB programme stage, mapped to UAE school years

Business Studies 0450 sits in a Cambridge pathway that starts before Year 10 and decides what is possible after Year 11. The programmes below are the ones Dubai schools actually run around it, with a note on what each means for the money you spend on tutoring.

IGCSEAges 14-16 · Years 10-11

Cambridge IGCSE

Two years, typically eight to ten subjects, examined externally at the end of Year 11. Business Studies 0450 is assessed by two written papers of ninety minutes each, weighted equally, with no coursework component. Paper 1 is short answer and data response; Paper 2 is a case study issued in the exam, not in advance. Grades are reported 9 to 1 by some Dubai schools and A* to G by others, depending on the version of the syllabus the centre enters.

In Dubai, 0450 is almost always an option rather than a core subject, chosen in Year 9 against Geography, Computer Science or a second language. That option-block position is the single biggest reason it gets tutored late and tutored in a hurry. Dubai centres enter candidates in the June series and, less often, in November for resits.

LOWER SECAges 11-14 · Years 7-9

Cambridge Lower Secondary

The three years before the IGCSE option block, ending in Checkpoint tests that Cambridge runs in March, May and October. There is no Business Studies here, but there is the maths that 0450 quietly depends on: percentages, ratio, simple interest and the ability to read a table without panicking. Students who arrive in Year 10 shaky on those four things lose marks in 0450 that look like business marks and are not.

Dubai families moving in from a CBSE or American school usually land in Year 8 or 9, and the gap that shows up later in 0450 is almost never business knowledge. It is the numerical half: break-even, cash-flow forecasts and ratio calculation. Three or four sessions in Year 9 on that gap costs a fraction of the same repair work in February of Year 11.

AS/A LEVELAges 16-19 · Years 12-13

Cambridge International AS and A Level

The post-16 route most Dubai British-curriculum schools offer alongside or instead of the IB Diploma. Business 9609 is the continuation of 0450, and the step up is in evaluation rather than content: AS answers are expected to reach a judgement and justify it against the specific business in the stimulus. A student who scraped 0450 on recall tends to find the first AS mock brutal.

Several Dubai sixth forms set a grade 6 or B at IGCSE as the entry condition for Business 9609, which turns 0450 from a soft option into a gatekeeper. If A Level Business is the plan, the money spent in Year 11 is buying an entry ticket, and that changes how you weigh AED 250 an hour against AED 120.

DPAges 16-19 · Years 12-13

IB Diploma Programme

The other post-16 destination in Dubai, where the equivalent subject is Business Management at Standard or Higher Level, assessed partly by an internally assessed research project. Students arriving from 0450 generally find the content familiar and the assessment style unfamiliar: the Diploma rewards sustained analysis of one real organisation rather than short responses to a printed case.

International Baccalaureate students are about 7% of Dubai private-school enrolment, and the emirate is adding three new IB schools in the 2026-27 intake. For a 0450 candidate, the relevant point is that the IB route does not require a particular IGCSE grade in Business, so the subject carries less gatekeeping weight than it does on the A Level pathway.

Subject coverage

IB and IGCSE subjects we tutor

Families buying 0450 support in Dubai usually need a second subject within the same month, and the rate per hour rarely changes between them. The subjects below are the ones most often bought alongside Business Studies in a Dubai option block, with the specific thing each one costs marks on.

Business Studies (0450)

Cambridge IGCSE

Six topic areas, two ninety-minute papers, equal weighting. Marks are lost on evaluation: students explain two advantages and stop, where the question asked for a justified recommendation about the business in the stimulus. The repair is a sentence structure, not more content.

Accounting (0452)

Cambridge IGCSE

The commonest partner subject to 0450 in Dubai commerce blocks. Procedural rather than discursive: double entry, control accounts, financial statements and ratio interpretation. Marks go on format and arithmetic discipline, which means practice volume matters more here than it does in Business Studies.

Economics (0455)

Cambridge IGCSE

Chosen against 0450 as often as alongside it. Heavier on diagram accuracy and the chain of reasoning between cause and effect. A student who likes the numerical half of Business Studies usually prefers Economics; one who likes the stakeholder arguments usually does not.

Mathematics (0580)

Core and Extended

The subject that silently decides half of a 0450 candidate's numerical marks. Break-even charts, percentage change, ratio and interpreting a cash-flow table all sit on 0580 skills. Extended tier students rarely struggle here; Core tier students often do, and it shows up as a Business Studies problem.

Additional Mathematics (0606)

Cambridge IGCSE

Taken by stronger Dubai cohorts alongside 0580, usually in the same option slot a commerce subject would occupy. Relevant to a 0450 decision mainly as competition: a student doing 0606 and 0450 together is carrying two quantitative loads in the same timetable.

First Language English (0500)

Cambridge IGCSE

Paper 2 of Business Studies is a reading test as much as a business test. Students who cannot strip a case study for the three relevant facts in four minutes lose marks before they write anything. Work on directed writing in 0500 transfers directly into 0450 case-study timing.

English as a Second Language (0510 and 0511)

Cambridge IGCSE

A large share of Dubai candidates sit ESL rather than First Language English. For 0450 the consequence is specific: command-word vocabulary. Students who read 'justify' as 'describe' answer a different question competently and score about half.

Geography (0460)

Cambridge IGCSE

The subject 0450 most often competes with in a Dubai Year 9 option form. Three papers rather than two, with a skills paper that rewards map and graph work. Worth knowing if a family is still deciding, because the tutoring profile across two years looks different.

Enterprise (0454)

Cambridge IGCSE

Offered by a small number of Dubai centres as an alternative to 0450, with a project-based assessment rather than two written papers. Rarely a resit option, and not interchangeable with Business Studies for sixth-form entry, so check with the school before treating them as equivalent.

Information and Communication Technology (0417)

Cambridge IGCSE

Frequently paired with 0450 in Dubai commerce-leaning blocks. The practical papers are time-pressured and need machine hours rather than discussion hours, which matters when you are deciding how to split a fixed monthly tutoring budget across two subjects.

How sessions run

Tutoring formats built around UAE school timetables

Three ways a Dubai family can buy 0450 support, with the cost consequence of each stated rather than implied. All three are delivered over live video; none of them involves a tutor travelling to a UAE address.

Weekly one-to-one, one subject

A single sixty or ninety minute session a week on 0450 alone, running from the start of Year 11 to the June series. This is the format most Dubai families default to and it is the right one when the problem is a specific skill rather than broad content gaps. Ninety minutes allows a full Paper 2 under timing plus feedback in the same session.

  • Sixty or ninety minute slots, Gulf Standard Time
  • One past-paper component marked between sessions
  • A named topic area per session, agreed in advance
  • Session notes a parent can read without knowing the syllabus

Two-subject commerce block

0450 and 0452, or 0450 and 0455, taught by the same tutor in alternating weeks or in two shorter slots. The practical benefit is not the rate, which rarely changes, but the overlap: ratio analysis, working capital and sources of finance appear in both syllabuses, and a tutor who sees both sets of papers stops teaching the same idea twice.

  • One tutor across two Cambridge option subjects
  • Shared topics taught once, applied twice
  • A single feedback thread rather than two
  • Useful when a fixed monthly budget has to cover both

Short pre-series intensive

A block of sessions in the six to nine weeks before the papers, aimed at exam technique rather than content. For 0450 this means command-word drilling, Paper 2 timing and the evaluation sentence. It is the cheapest format per mark recovered for a student who knows the content and writes the wrong kind of answer, and the most wasteful one for a student with genuine content gaps.

  • Six to nine weeks, two sessions a week
  • Every session built on a timed past-paper response
  • Mark-scheme annotation on the student's own script
  • A written list of the command words costing marks

What IB and IGCSE study actually looks like in Dubai

01

What a 0450 home tutor costs in Dubai, and what the market charges instead

A Cambridge IGCSE Business Studies 0450 home tutor in Dubai is quoted between AED 180 and AED 500 an hour by the providers that publish rates, with travel folded into the figure. The same tutor profile working online is quoted between AED 150 and AED 300, and an exam-board specialist online reaches AED 450 at the top of Bestimate's 2026 Dubai table. The spread is wide because it covers two unrelated variables: how much subject depth the tutor has, and how far they have to drive.

The table below separates those two things, because a Dubai parent comparing quotes is usually comparing a travel premium to a qualification premium without being told which is which. Every figure is a market rate published by the provider named in the final column on the date shown. None of them is an IB Gram price list. Our own model is a free trial lesson first, then a plan agreed with the family, which is why no IB Gram row appears in a rate table on this page.

Read the monthly column rather than the hourly one if you are budgeting across Years 10 and 11. One session a week for three terms is roughly thirty sessions, so an hourly difference of AED 100 is a difference of AED 3,000 across a year, and a difference of AED 6,000 across the two IGCSE years. That is the real decision, and it is the reason the cheapest option is not automatically the economical one if it has to be repeated.

Two figures belong next to the tutoring numbers for context. KHDA confirmed in May 2026 that private school fees in Dubai would not rise for the 2026-27 academic year, under the emirate's second economic incentives package. And the Cambridge entry fee for a private candidate sitting a single IGCSE subject is a separate cost from tuition, paid to the centre, with a deadline months before the paper.

Why two 0450 quotes from the same community differ by AED 200

  • Divide every quote by actual teaching minutes, not by the advertised session
  • Ask whether marking a past-paper component is inside the rate or billed on top
  • Ask what happens to unused sessions in a prepaid block before paying for it
  • Ask for the tutor's experience with 0450 specifically, not with business teaching

The seven variables that move a Dubai quote are knowable, and none of them is mysterious. The first is subject depth: a tutor who has marked 0450 scripts or taught the syllabus through a full two-year cycle prices differently from a business graduate teaching from the textbook. The second is tier and year group, because a Year 11 candidate eight weeks from the series is a different job from a Year 10 student in October. The third is session length, and this is where comparisons break down most often.

A sixty-minute slot and a forty-five-minute slot are advertised the same way in Dubai and are not the same product. Divide every quote by the actual teaching minutes before you compare it. The fourth variable is marking: some rates include a marked past-paper component between sessions and some bill it separately at the same hourly rate, which can add a third to the monthly total for a subject like 0450 where written practice is the whole point.

The fifth is the slot itself. The 5pm to 8pm window on weekdays in term time is the scarcest resource in Dubai tutoring, and a tutor with a full diary prices it accordingly. A 4pm slot or a Saturday morning is routinely cheaper for the same tutor. The sixth is commitment: a block of ten sessions paid upfront is usually discounted against pay-as-you-go, and the question to ask is what happens to unused sessions, not what the discount is.

The seventh is travel, and it is the only one that disappears entirely with online delivery. An in-home tutor moving between two villa communities in the evening is giving up a billable hour, and that hour is in your rate whether or not the invoice names it. This is not an argument that in-home tuition is poor value. It is an argument that you should know which part of the number is teaching and which part is Sheikh Zayed Road.

03

Online against in-home for 0450, set out honestly

IB Gram does not sell in-home visits in the UAE; home visits are a service we run only in India. That makes a fair comparison awkward to write and worth writing anyway, because a Dubai family deciding between the two formats deserves the case for both rather than a brochure for one. The table below compares them on the four things that actually differ: what the hour costs, what the travel does, how deep the tutor pool goes, and what happens when a session needs to move.

The strongest argument for in-home tuition in Dubai is attention management. A twelve-year-old who drifts the moment a screen is involved is better served by an adult in the room, and no amount of video quality changes that. The argument weakens as students get older, and by Year 11 a 0450 candidate working on case-study timing is doing something that suits a shared screen better than a kitchen table: the paper is on screen, the mark scheme is on screen, and the annotation happens where both people can see it.

The strongest argument for online delivery is the one that cannot be bought locally at any price. A Dubai family looking for a tutor who has taught the current 0450 syllabus through a full cycle is choosing from everyone available over video, not from the subset who live within a reasonable drive of their community. For a core subject that pool is deep either way. For an option subject sat by a smaller cohort, the local pool can be thin enough that the choice is between a specialist on video and a generalist in the room.

Scheduling is the underrated difference. A 0450 student who needs twenty minutes on Monday to fix one command word and ninety minutes on Saturday for a full paper can have exactly that online. The same pattern in-home means two journeys, and no sensible tutor prices a twenty-minute visit. Families here consistently report that the flexibility, not the rate, is what changed the format they chose.

04

0450 is an option subject, so spend accordingly

  • Buy a diagnostic block early rather than a long weekly commitment late
  • Separate content gaps from technique gaps before deciding how many hours to buy
  • Check whether your child's sixth form sets a 0450 grade condition for Business 9609
  • Spend on marked written practice rather than on more content coverage

Business Studies is almost never one of the three subjects a Dubai family would protect if the tutoring budget were cut in half. That is a reasonable instinct and it leads to a specific mistake: treating 0450 as a subject that needs no money until it needs a lot, quickly, in February. The cheaper path is to buy a small amount early and aim it precisely, because the marks 0450 loses are concentrated and diagnosable rather than spread across the syllabus.

Here is the concentration. Paper 1 marks are lost on command words and on the numerical questions. Paper 2 marks are lost almost entirely on application and evaluation: the student knows the content, writes a general answer, and never names the business in the case study or reaches a justified judgement. That is a writing habit. It takes three or four sessions to change and it does not need a two-year programme to change it.

So the economical plan for most Dubai candidates is two or three sessions in Year 10 after the first proper assessment, enough to identify whether the problem is content or technique, then a gap, then a focused block before the series. A family spending AED 250 an hour on eight well-aimed sessions across two years spends AED 2,000 on 0450. A family spending AED 150 an hour on a weekly session from September to June spends AED 5,400 and frequently ends up with the same grade, because the weekly session covered content the student already had.

The exception is the student for whom 0450 is a gatekeeper. If A Level Business 9609 is the sixth-form plan and the school sets a grade 6 or B as the entry condition, the subject stops being an option and starts being a prerequisite. In that case the weekly session is defensible from the start of Year 11, and the money is buying an entry ticket rather than a grade on a certificate.

05

The two 0450 papers, and the cost per mark of fixing each

Cambridge IGCSE Business Studies 0450 is assessed by two written papers, each ninety minutes and each carrying half the grade. Paper 1 is short answer and data response across the six topic areas. Paper 2 is a case study, issued in the exam rather than released in advance, with all questions tied to the printed business. There is no coursework and no practical component, which makes 0450 unusually clean to plan tutoring around: everything that will be assessed is assessed in three hours of writing.

The assessment objectives are where the money goes. The syllabus marks knowledge and understanding, application, analysis and evaluation, and the weightings are published in the syllabus document for your child's series, which is worth reading once at the start of Year 11. The practical consequence is that recall alone cannot reach the top grades. A student who can define, explain and list is competing for the lower half of the available marks on Paper 2 however thoroughly they revise.

The table sets out where marks go per component and what a session is actually fixing, which is the information you need to decide whether eight hours of tutoring is worth AED 2,000. Note the asymmetry. Content gaps are expensive to fix because there are six topic areas. Technique gaps are cheap to fix because there are only a handful of recurring failures, and they repeat across every question in the paper.

One caution on syllabus detail. Cambridge revises syllabuses on a cycle, and the paper structure, marks and weightings for your child's series are the ones in the syllabus document for that series on cambridgeinternational.org. Check it rather than trusting a figure on any tutoring page, including this one. We reference the official document and link to it; we do not reproduce Cambridge syllabus material, past papers or mark schemes here.

Group, package or one-to-one: the same monthly spend, three products

Take AED 800 a month, which is roughly where a Dubai family's 0450 budget lands after the core subjects have taken their share. That buys about three hours of specialist one-to-one, a monthly online package of eight shorter sessions, or six to eight hours in a group of four. Those are genuinely different products and the right answer depends on what is wrong, not on which looks like better value per hour.

A group of four works for content coverage. If a student has missed a topic area because of a move between schools, hearing it taught once in a group is efficient and the lower rate per hour is real. A group does not work for the Paper 2 evaluation problem, because that needs somebody reading this student's sentences and saying why they stopped short. In a group of four, a ninety-minute session gives each student roughly twenty minutes of individual attention, and the marking usually is not individual at all.

Monthly packages are the hardest to compare, and the question is not the headline rate. Ask three things: how many teaching minutes are in a session, what happens to a session the family cannot attend, and whether marking between sessions is included. An eight-session package at AED 799 with forty-five-minute sessions and no marking is six teaching hours with no written feedback, which for 0450 is the wrong shape of support regardless of the price.

Specialist one-to-one at three hours a month looks thin next to eight group hours and often is not, because the three hours are spent on the twenty marks that are actually missing. The honest summary: buy group hours for content, buy one-to-one for technique, and if the budget only stretches to one, work out which problem your child has before spending anything.

Entry deadlines, series choice and the fees that are not tutoring

Cambridge runs IGCSE exams in a June series and a November series, and for a Dubai candidate that is the whole menu. June is the main sitting, November is the resit route, and there is no third window to fall back on, which is why the series choice is a smaller decision than the timing around it. The point that catches families out every year is how early the administrative deadline sits. The entry that fixes which subjects and which components a candidate sits closes months before the first paper, and once the centre has submitted it, nothing about that series is negotiable. A tutor can change how a student performs on the paper; nobody can change what the paper is after the entry has gone in.

Read that sequence again with a tutoring budget in mind. The entry decision is taken months ahead of the exam period, not weeks, and that is what compresses a resit choice. A family that waits for the summer result before deciding whether November is worth paying for has very little room to move: the results land in August and the November entry is closing around the same time. The same logic runs forwards into the June series your child is sitting now. By the time a mock in the spring term exposes a problem, the entry is long since made, the components are fixed, and the only remaining variable is how the weeks between that mock and the paper are spent.

Pearson Edexcel, used by some Dubai centres instead of Cambridge, runs International GCSE exams in May or June and in November, and publishes provisional timetables ahead of each series. Its November 2026 final timetable runs from late October to 19 November 2026. June 2026 results went to centres on 19 August 2026 and to students on 20 August 2026; November 2025 results reached students on 22 January 2026. Those are the dates to plan a resit decision around if your child's centre uses Edexcel.

Always work from the live official timetable rather than a restated date, including the ones above, because provisional timetables are revised. The exams officer at your child's school holds the version for your centre and knows which series the school is entering. The relevant costs that are not tutoring are the entry fee per subject, any late-entry charge, and for a private candidate the centre's own administration fee, none of which a tutor controls.

Permits, VAT and what a Dubai parent can verify before paying

  • The MoHRE private tuition work permit is free and valid for two years
  • No official fine schedule is published, so quoted penalty amounts are unverified
  • KHDA permits training institutes with premises, not individual tutors
  • Ask in writing whether a quoted AED rate includes VAT

Private tutoring in the UAE is regulated by permit. The private tuition work permit was introduced by Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023 and is issued through MoHRE, whose own service page is titled 'Issuance of a New Work Permit - Private Tutor Licensing'. The permit is granted free of charge for two years, and MoHRE lists a two-working-day completion time through its smart app, website and e-services system. Eligible applicants include teachers registered in government or private schools, government and private sector employees, unemployed individuals, university students and school students aged 15 to 18.

Two consequences for a Dubai family. First, anyone who tells you a permit costs money, or that they will pass the cost on, is describing something that does not exist: the permit is free. Second, individuals offering private tutoring without a permit are subject to fines and penalties under the applicable laws. No fine schedule has been published, so any specific figure you see quoted should be treated as unverified, including the one that circulates on tutoring blogs.

There is a separate question about who regulates what. In Dubai, the Knowledge and Human Development Authority oversees the quality of private education in the emirate and inspects private schools annually on a six-band scale from Outstanding to Very Weak. A tutoring operation with premises and staff in Dubai needs a KHDA Educational Services Permit for a training institute. An individual private tutor does not hold one, and IB Gram does not hold one either, because we do not run premises in the UAE. Any tutoring page describing its tutors as approved by a regulator is describing something it cannot evidence.

On VAT, the correct answer is narrow: ask the provider whether the AED figure they have quoted you includes it, and get the answer in writing with any tax registration number they hold. The general UAE tax treatment of tuition fees is not something a tutoring page should assert without a Federal Tax Authority citation, and we are not going to assert it here. What we will say is that a quote which is silent on VAT is an incomplete quote.

How this actually runs, and what happens if no 0450 specialist is free

A family starts with a free trial lesson, which costs nothing and needs no card details. The tutor spends that session on one piece of your child's own work, usually a recent 0450 assessment or a past-paper question, and comes back with a specific diagnosis: content gap, command-word problem, timing problem or evaluation problem. That diagnosis is what you use to decide how many hours to buy, and it is useful even if you buy them somewhere else.

After that, sessions run over live video at a fixed weekly slot in Gulf Standard Time, with written notes a parent can read without knowing the syllabus. Scripts are annotated on a shared screen so the student can see where the mark scheme awarded and withheld credit. Marked work is returned before the next session rather than at it, because feedback a week old has already been overtaken by the next lesson.

On availability, the honest version. Business Studies 0450 is sat by a smaller cohort than maths or the sciences, and there are weeks when no specialist with a free evening slot in Gulf Standard Time is available at the level a family needs. When that happens we say so, offer the nearest match with the limitation named, and tell you the likely wait for the specialist. We would rather lose the booking than put a general business tutor in front of a Year 11 who needs component-level feedback on Paper 2.

Two boundaries are fixed. A tutor teaches, reviews and gives feedback on work the student has produced; nobody here will produce assessed work for a student, and that applies to every board and every component. And we do not supply Cambridge syllabus documents, past papers or mark schemes as downloads. We reference them, link the official page, and work from the copy your child's school has provided.

Where we tutor

Areas we cover across Dubai

What a Dubai family pays for a tutor has historically depended on where they live, because travel was priced into the hour. The notes below are about that geography: which communities sit near which Cambridge centres, and what the evening road network does to a session start time.

Dubai Marina and JBR

High-rise households with no spare study room and a lift queue at 4pm. In-home tutors quote at the upper end here because parking and building access add fifteen minutes each way. Online removes both, and a 0450 session can start at 4.15pm rather than 4.45pm.

Al Barsha and The Greens

Dense in British-curriculum schools, so the local tutor pool is relatively deep and in-home rates sit mid-band. The constraint is the 7pm slot: every family on the same school run wants it. Video lessons make an 8.30pm slot workable for a Year 11 revising case studies.

Dubai Hills Estate

Villa communities with long internal roads, which adds drive time inside the community itself, not just to it. Quotes here regularly reach the top of the AED 180-500 in-home band. Families buying two option subjects often find the travel premium exceeds the second subject's tuition.

Mirdif and Al Warqa

Further from the Marina-and-Jumeirah tutor concentration, so in-home availability for a niche option subject like 0450 thins out quickly. This is the clearest case for online delivery: the subject specialist does not need to live within a twenty-minute drive.

Arabian Ranches and Mudon

School-run distances are long and the afternoon return is late, so a 5pm start is optimistic in term time. Weekend morning sessions are common here, which suits 0450 revision because a full Paper 2 case study plus feedback needs ninety uninterrupted minutes.

Jumeirah and Umm Suqeim

Short distances but the worst congestion per kilometre in the emirate between 4pm and 6pm. Parents here are the most likely to have paid a travel premium without seeing it itemised. Ask any in-home quote to separate teaching time from travel time.

Business Bay and Downtown

Apartment living with working parents, so sessions often need to start after 7.30pm. Shorter, more frequent blocks work better than one long weekly lesson for 0450, because the subject rewards repeated short practice on command words rather than marathon content coverage.

IB and Cambridge school communities we support in Dubai

Dubai British-curriculum centres running Cambridge IGCSE option blocks

These are well-known Dubai schools that offer Cambridge IGCSE at Key Stage 4. Whether a particular centre runs Business Studies 0450 in a given year depends on its option-block numbers, and that changes between cohorts, so confirm the syllabus code with the head of commerce before buying tutoring against it.

Dubai centres with international cohorts sitting commerce options

Schools with large international enrolments where commerce subjects regularly appear in the Year 10 option form alongside a modern language. Several of these report IGCSE grades on the 9 to 1 scale while others still use A* to G, which matters when you are comparing a mock result to a sixth-form entry requirement.

How matching works

From first enquiry to a tutor who fits

  1. 01

Tell us the component, not just the subject

A message saying 'Year 11, Cambridge 0450, Paper 2 case study, mock came back at a 5' gets a usable answer in hours. A message saying 'needs business help' starts with a week of questions. If you have a marked script, send it; it is the single most useful thing a tutor can see before a first session.

  2. 02

    Free trial lesson, no card

One session at no cost and with no card details collected, spent on your child's own work rather than on a sales conversation. You end it with a written diagnosis naming the specific problem and an estimate of how many sessions it needs. If the answer is two sessions rather than twenty, that is what the note will say.

  3. 03

Agree a plan and a slot

A fixed weekly slot in Gulf Standard Time, a stated session length in teaching minutes, and a written note of what is included: marking, session notes, and how far ahead of the next session marked work comes back. Nothing is prepaid for months before you have seen the tutor work.

  4. 04

Work on marked papers, not on content tours

Each session is built on a timed response the student has written, annotated against the mark scheme on a shared screen. The point is not to cover the six topic areas again. It is to close the two or three recurring failures that are costing marks across every question in the paper.

  5. 05

Review at six sessions and decide

At six sessions there is enough marked evidence to say whether the approach is working, and the review is a decision point rather than a renewal. If the marks have not moved and the reason is not clear, the right answer may be a different tutor or a different diagnosis, and we will say so.

Why families choose us

What UAE parents tell us matters most

The AED numbers are on the page

Three of six researched competitors publish no price at all and the two that do quote in US dollars. Every band on this page is in dirhams, attributed to the provider that published it, with the year stated. You can check them, and you can use them to argue with a quote from anyone, including us.

Travel is named as a cost, not hidden in a rate

An in-home hour in Dubai contains teaching and driving. Most quotes do not separate them. This page does, so you can see which part of a rate difference buys subject depth and which part buys a journey across the emirate in evening traffic.

Component-level diagnosis, in writing

After a trial lesson you get a note that names the component and the failure, not a summary of how the session went. 'Loses evaluation marks on the final part of extended Paper 2 questions' is actionable. 'Needs to build confidence' is not, and we do not write it.

Specialist access regardless of community

0450 is an option subject with a smaller cohort, so the local pool of tutors who have taught the current syllabus through a full cycle is thin in some Dubai communities. Online delivery means the choice is made on subject depth rather than on who lives within a drive of Mirdif or Mudon.

Clear limits on what a tutor will do

Teaching, reviewing and feedback on the student's own work. Nobody here produces assessed material for a student, and no page of ours sells it. In a market where at least one ranking site sells finished Internal Assessments, saying this plainly is a position rather than a disclaimer.

No claim we cannot evidence

No regulator approval, no partnership with a school or board, no star rating we invented, no statistic without its source. IB Gram holds no KHDA, ADEK, MoE, Cambridge or Pearson accreditation and does not imply one. What is on this page is either sourced or clearly marked as a market range.

Questions parents ask

IB and IGCSE tutoring in Dubai: your questions answered

What does a Cambridge IGCSE Business Studies 0450 tutor charge per hour in Dubai?+

Market rates in Dubai for a qualified subject tutor working online run roughly AED 150 to 300 an hour, and an exam-board specialist sits between AED 200 and 450. Unitors publishes IGCSE tuition from AED 150, TutorChase quotes AED 270, and Bestimate's 2026 Dubai table reaches AED 450 and above. In-home visits are quoted from AED 180 to 500 with travel absorbed into the hour. Budget providers advertise far lower, from AED 45 to 65. None of these is an IB Gram price list; they are published market rates, and our own model starts with a free trial lesson and a plan agreed with the family.

Does a 0450 tutor cost less per hour than a maths or physics tutor in Dubai?+

Not usually. The rate tracks the tutor's experience and the slot rather than the subject, so a specialist in Business Studies and a specialist in Physics tend to quote in the same band. Where 0450 is genuinely cheaper is in total hours. The marks lost in Business Studies are concentrated in command words, the numerical questions and Paper 2 evaluation, which means a well-aimed block of six to eight sessions can do what a science subject needs thirty for. Compare total cost to the June series rather than hourly rate.

Does IB Gram send a tutor to a Dubai address for 0450 lessons?+

No. IB Gram does not offer in-home visits anywhere in the UAE, and home visits are a service we run only in India. All 0450 support for Dubai families is delivered one-to-one over live video, at a fixed weekly slot in Gulf Standard Time. We target the home-tutor search term because that is the phrase parents type, and then answer it honestly: the page above compares both formats on cost, travel, tutor pool and rescheduling so you can decide, and quotes the market's in-home rates rather than pretending they do not exist.

How does a monthly 0450 package in Dubai compare with paying per hour?+

Monthly packages seen in the Dubai market run around AED 799 for eight online sessions, or AED 1,599 to 1,799 for four two-hour in-home visits. Whether that beats hourly depends on three things the headline rate hides: how many teaching minutes are in a session, whether marking between sessions is included, and what happens to a session you cannot attend. An eight-session package of forty-five-minute lessons with no marking is six teaching hours and no written feedback, which for 0450 is the wrong shape of support at any price.

Is Business Studies 0450 worth tutoring when it is my child's ninth subject?+

It depends on one question: does a sixth form your child wants require a grade in it. Several Dubai schools set a grade 6 or B at IGCSE as the entry condition for Cambridge AS and A Level Business 9609, which turns 0450 from an option into a prerequisite. If that is the plan, tutoring it is defensible from the start of Year 11. If it is not, and the grade only needs to be solid rather than high, a short diagnostic block plus a focused run before the series usually costs a third of a weekly commitment for a similar result.

What is the cheapest way to fix weak Paper 2 case-study answers in 0450?+

Timed practice with somebody marking it against the published criteria, which is cheaper than it sounds because the failure repeats. Most students lose Paper 2 marks the same way every time: they write a general answer that never names the business in the printed case, then list both sides of an argument without reaching a justified recommendation. That is a sentence structure, not a content gap. Three or four sessions, each built on one timed response and annotated on a shared screen, is the standard repair and it does not need a two-year programme.

Do 0450 tutors in Dubai charge extra for marking past papers?+

Some do and some do not, and it is the biggest hidden variable in a Dubai quote. At the budget end, the advertised rate is usually teaching time only and marking is billed at the same hourly rate, which can add a third to a monthly total. At the specialist end, marked scripts and component-level feedback are typically inside the rate. Ask the question directly before you agree anything, because for a written subject like Business Studies the marking is not an extra service. It is where the grade moves.

Does the Cambridge entry fee for 0450 come on top of what we pay a tutor?+

Yes. Exam entry is paid to the centre entering your child, usually the school, and it is separate from tuition. A private candidate also pays the centre's own administration fee on top. Neither is something a tutor controls or should be quoting. The thing to watch is the deadline rather than the amount. Both series a Dubai candidate can sit commit the money and the subject decision a long way ahead of the paper: a June entry closes in the spring and a November entry closes over the summer. On the Pearson side, where the published dates are firm enough to quote, the November 2026 papers ran through to 19 November 2026 and the entry for them had closed well before the autumn term was underway. Ask the exams officer for the date that applies to your child's centre rather than working from a figure on a tutoring site.

Should we start 0450 support in Year 10 or wait until Year 11?+

A small amount in Year 10, after the first proper assessment, is usually the cheaper route. Two or three sessions at that point separate a content problem from a technique problem, and that distinction changes what you need to buy later by a factor of three. Waiting until Year 11 is defensible if the Year 10 reports are solid, but it removes the option of spreading the cost and it means any genuine content gap in the six topic areas has to be closed in the same weeks as exam technique.

At the same monthly spend, is a 0450 group of four as useful as one-to-one?+

For content, often yes. If your child missed a topic area during a school move, hearing it taught once in a group is efficient and the lower rate per hour is real. For the Paper 2 evaluation problem, no. That needs somebody reading your child's sentences and saying why they stopped short, and in a ninety-minute group of four each student gets roughly twenty minutes of individual attention with marking that is rarely individual at all. Buy group hours for content, one-to-one for technique.

What does a 0450 specialist know that a business graduate does not?+

The mark scheme. A business graduate can explain stakeholder conflict or break-even perfectly well. A tutor who has worked through the current 0450 syllabus and a stack of scripts knows which command words the paper uses, how many marks an application point is worth against an evaluation point, and what examiners do with an answer that argues both sides and never decides. That knowledge is worth roughly the gap between the AED 150 and AED 300 bands, and it is worth nothing to a student whose problem is a missing topic area.

Does a Dubai tutor's quoted hourly rate for 0450 include VAT?+

Ask, and get the answer in writing along with any tax registration number the provider holds. A quote that is silent on VAT is an incomplete quote, and the difference matters once you multiply an hourly figure by thirty sessions. We are not going to state the general UAE tax treatment of tuition fees on this page, because that is a Federal Tax Authority question and tutoring sites assert it far too confidently. The narrow, answerable version is whether the specific AED number in front of you is the number you will pay.

Can one tutor cover Business Studies 0450 and Accounting 0452 at the same rate?+

Often yes, and in Dubai commerce option blocks it is the common pairing. The rate per hour rarely changes between the two. The real benefit is overlap: ratio analysis, working capital and sources of finance appear in both syllabuses, and a tutor who sees both sets of marked papers teaches a shared idea once and applies it twice. The caution is that the two subjects fail differently. Accounting marks go on procedure and arithmetic discipline; Business Studies marks go on application and judgement.

Does my child's Dubai school decide which exam series 0450 is sat in?+

Yes. The centre enters candidates, so the school's exams officer decides the series and holds the correct timetable for your centre. Cambridge runs IGCSE in a June series and a November series, and Dubai candidates almost always sit June, with November used for resits. Pearson Edexcel centres run May or June and November instead. Entry deadlines sit months before the papers, so if a resit decision is being considered, the conversation with the exams officer needs to happen well before the mock results arrive.

What happens to the cost if we pause 0450 lessons over the Dubai summer break?+

With pay-as-you-go nothing happens: you stop and restart, though you may not get the same evening slot back in September because the 5pm to 8pm window fills first. With a prepaid block the answer depends on terms you should check before paying, specifically whether unused sessions expire and whether they transfer to another subject. Ask that question before the discount persuades you. A block that saves AED 300 and strands four sessions in August has not saved anything.

Start with the diagnosis, then decide what to spend

The useful first step for a Cambridge IGCSE Business Studies 0450 candidate in Dubai is not booking a term of lessons. It is finding out, from one marked script, whether the problem is content, command words, timing or evaluation, because those four answers lead to wildly different bills. The free trial lesson exists for that, costs nothing and collects no card details, and the written diagnosis is yours to use wherever you take it. If the honest answer is that your child needs three sessions rather than thirty, that is what the note will say. Send a recent marked paper and the component you are worried about, and we will tell you what we see.
