IB DP Math AI HL Online Tutor in Dubai

An IB DP math AI HL online tutor in Dubai should leave a paper trail: a marked Paper 3 script, a dated set of exploration versions, a weekly note that names the topic and the mark, and a six-week review where you decide whether to carry on. This page sets out what that evidence looks like week by week for Applications and Interpretation at Higher Level in Dubai, and how to read it rather than take it on trust. Lessons run one-to-one over live video on Gulf Standard Time.

  • Marked scripts returned with the mark type written beside each loss
  • A dated session note after every lesson, in plain language
  • A six-week review where continuing is a decision, not a default

What progress in AI HL looks like on paper, week by week

Mathematics: Applications and Interpretation at Higher Level runs to 240 teaching hours and is assessed by three papers and one exploration. Paper 1 and Paper 2 each last two hours, carry 110 marks and take 30% of the grade. Paper 3 lasts one hour, carries 55 marks, takes 20%, and consists of two compulsory extended-response problem-solving questions. The exploration takes the final 20%, marked out of 20. Every one of those components produces something you can read, and this page is about reading it.

Most parents judge tutoring by whether their child seems more confident. That is the least reliable signal available. A student who has been taught a technique in a session will feel better about it that evening and still lose the same four marks three weeks later under timed conditions. The signal worth tracking is narrower: a script, with marks on it, dated, with the mark type named beside each loss, and a second script two weeks later showing whether the same loss recurred.

AI HL generates unusually good evidence because technology is permitted in every paper. When the calculator is not the variable, the remaining variables are interpretation, modelling choice and the written justification, and all three are visible in the student's own handwriting. A tutor who returns a marked AI HL script can tell you whether a mark was lost because the model was wrong, because the answer was correct but never stated in context, or because the student rounded at the wrong point of the calculation.

Paper 3 deserves a paragraph of its own, because it is the component Dubai families most often discover late. It is a single hour of two long investigations that build on each other, where part (a) feeds part (f) and an early error propagates. School mock papers frequently omit it or shorten it, so a student can reach February of DP2 with no full-length Paper 3 attempt on record. Asking a tutor for one marked Paper 3 script is the fastest way to find out where the real risk sits, and it costs one session rather than a term.

The rest of this page describes the evidence in order: the four-week trail, the Paper 3 script, how to read mark types on a markscheme, the dated version history behind the exploration, what a grade rise actually requires in raw marks, and the reporting file we keep and will delete on request. Lessons for Dubai families run one-to-one over live video on Gulf Standard Time. IB Gram does not offer home visits in Dubai, and the comparison table in the seventh section explains why the evidence a family ends up holding tends to be better, more complete and more portable without one.

Every IB programme stage, mapped to UAE school years

AI HL students in Dubai arrive from different places, and the evidence that matters differs by stage. The three below are the points at which a parent can usefully ask to see something written down rather than described, and the kind of document each stage actually produces.

DPAges 16-19 · Years 12-13

Diploma Programme

At Higher Level the Diploma produces four separate pieces of assessed evidence in mathematics: two long papers, the hour-long Paper 3, and the exploration. The internal documents a school generates alongside them matter just as much: predicted grades, mock scripts and the internal exploration deadlines. A tutor working without sight of those is working on description rather than data, which is why the first session asks for the most recent marked paper rather than a list of topics.

Dubai schools publish their own mock windows and their own internal coursework deadlines, and those dates differ between schools a few kilometres apart. The practical effect for an AI HL family is that the first genuinely comparable piece of evidence often arrives in the first term of DP2, when a full mock finally exists. Before that, the usable evidence is whatever the subject teacher has marked, which is why we ask for it in the first message rather than the fourth week.

MYPAges 11-16 · MYP 1-5

Middle Years Programme

MYP mathematics is assessed against four criteria, not papers, so the evidence is criterion-referenced and qualitative. That makes it harder to compare with Diploma marks and easier to misread. A student achieving a 7 in MYP 5 against criterion A may still be weak at the sustained multi-step work Paper 3 demands. The useful evidence at this stage is a timed, unseen multi-step question marked honestly, which is what a diagnostic session produces.

Dubai's IB continuum schools run large MYP cohorts in Al Barsha, Nad Al Sheba and Mirdif, and the AI or AA decision is usually taken in MYP 5. Families who ask for one piece of evidence at that point, a marked unseen problem rather than a report comment, make a better-informed choice. AI HL suits a student who reasons well with data and context; it is not the easier course, and 52 hours of statistics is not a soft option.

IGCSEAges 14-16 · Years 10-11

IGCSE to AI HL bridge

An IGCSE Extended maths grade is a poor predictor of AI HL performance on its own, because IGCSE rewards executing a known procedure while AI HL rewards choosing a model and justifying it. The bridging evidence worth collecting is a single AI-style modelling question: given data and a context, build something defensible and write a sentence explaining what the answer means. Students who can do that in Year 11 need far fewer paid hours in DP1.

Dubai is predominantly British by enrolment, with UK curricula at 37 per cent of private school students, so most AI HL students in the emirate come from IGCSE rather than MYP. Summer bridging work between Year 11 and DP1 is common here and produces its own evidence: four marked modelling questions, done in August, tell a family more about readiness for Higher Level than a Year 11 report does.

Subject coverage

IB and IGCSE subjects we tutor

AI HL is the subject in the URL, and the grid below places it among the Diploma subjects Dubai families most often support alongside it. Each entry is written around the evidence that subject generates, because that is what a parent can actually inspect.

Mathematics: Applications and Interpretation

HL and SL

HL adds Paper 3 and ninety guide hours over SL. The evidence to ask for is a marked full-length Paper 3, because it is the component schools most often leave out of mocks and the one where early errors propagate through a whole question.

Mathematics: Analysis and Approaches

HL and SL

AA Paper 1 is sat without technology, so the evidence looks different: manual algebra and exact values in the student's own hand. Families comparing the two courses should ask to see a marked script from each before committing to a switch.

Physics

HL and SL

Paper 1B is a data-analysis section, so Physics produces evidence that overlaps directly with AI HL: gradients, uncertainties and conclusions written in context. A single marked Paper 1B often explains a maths problem and a physics problem at once.

Chemistry

HL and SL

Calculation chains are the evidence here, and they fail in identifiable places. A marked question on moles and concentration shows whether the student loses marks on chemistry or on arithmetic discipline, which is a question worth answering before paying for either subject.

Biology

HL and SL

The statistical content, standard deviation, error bars and correlation, is shared ground with AI HL. Extended-response answers need reading closely rather than scanning, so marking turnaround is the practical constraint on how much evidence a week can produce.

Economics

HL and SL

Three internal commentaries plus a quantitative HL paper make this a document-heavy subject. The dated draft history of a commentary is strong evidence of genuine authorship, and the quantitative paper rewards exactly the habits AI HL is trying to build.

Business Management

HL and SL

Case-study responses are the evidence, and they improve visibly once structure is taught. Progress here is easier to see week to week than in mathematics, which makes it a useful second subject when a family wants an early signal.

Computer Science

HL and SL

The solution component produces its own artefacts, including a dated development record. Pseudocode discipline sits close to AI HL reasoning, and a student who writes clear pseudocode usually writes clearer mathematical justification too.

Environmental Systems and Societies

HL and SL

Data interpretation and systems diagrams generate evidence quickly, and the subject's quantitative questions reward the same contextual writing AI HL demands. A common pairing for Dubai students who want a second data-led subject without a third mathematics-heavy one.

How sessions run

Tutoring formats built around UAE school timetables

Three ways to generate evidence at different speeds. All three start with the same free trial lesson, and all three produce a dated written note the family keeps rather than a verbal summary at the door.

A diagnostic session built on an existing script

One hour spent marking and interrogating a paper the student has already sat. The output is a written list of the marks lost, sorted by mark type rather than by topic, and an estimate of how many sessions each one needs. It is the cheapest piece of real evidence available, and it tells you whether the problem is method, accuracy or reading the question.

  • Works from the student's own marked or unmarked script
  • Produces a written diagnosis you keep
  • Sorts losses by mark type, not by chapter

Weekly one-to-one with marking between sessions

A fixed Gulf Standard Time slot each week, work set after every session, and that work returned marked before the next one. Over a Dubai term this produces about a dozen dated scripts, which is enough to see whether a specific loss recurs. The pattern across those scripts is the evidence; any single script is noise.

  • A fixed weekly slot held for the term
  • Written work marked to the markscheme and returned
  • A dated note after each session naming topic and marks

A timed Paper 3 block before a mock window

Three or four sessions built entirely around full-length Paper 3 attempts under exam conditions, marked and reviewed. Because Paper 3 questions escalate within themselves, the evidence it produces is different from anything Paper 1 or Paper 2 generates: it shows whether a student can hold a thread across six parts of one problem.

  • Full-length attempts, timed, no interruptions
  • Marked with the propagation of each early error traced
  • Scheduled against the school's own mock dates

The four-week evidence trail: what should exist, and when

Four weeks of weekly AI HL support should leave four dated artefacts behind. Week one produces a written diagnosis built on an existing script. Week two produces the first piece of work set and marked. Week three produces the first repeat test of the original weakness. Week four produces a short pattern note saying whether the weakness has moved. If any of those four is missing, the question to ask is not whether your child is enjoying the sessions.

The trail matters because mathematics improvement is not linear and feels like nothing for the first fortnight. A student rebuilding how they set up a model will temporarily get slower and may score lower, and without dated evidence that looks like failure rather than reconstruction. With the scripts in front of you, it is visible as a method change: fewer marks on the first attempt, the same marks regained two weeks later, and then marks appearing that were never there before.

What should be in each note is specific and short. The topic, the component it belongs to, the marks available, the marks scored, the mark type lost, and the single thing set as follow-up. Notes longer than that tend to be padding, and notes shorter than that are not evidence. We write them in plain language rather than in assessment vocabulary, because a note a parent cannot read is a note that gets filed and never used.

Missing evidence has honest explanations. A session lost to a school trip, a week where the student had three internal deadlines, or a deliberate decision to spend two sessions teaching rather than testing are all legitimate. What is not legitimate is four weeks of pleasant sessions with nothing written down, and a family being asked to renew on the strength of a feeling. The table sets out what to expect and what to do if it is absent.

02

Paper 3 is the Higher Level script you should ask to see marked

Paper 3 is one hour, 55 marks and 20% of the AI HL grade, made up of two compulsory extended-response problem-solving questions. Technology is required throughout. Its structure is what makes it different: each question unfolds across several parts that depend on earlier answers, so a modelling choice made in part (b) can cost marks in parts (d), (e) and (f) even when every subsequent step is executed correctly. No other component in AI HL punishes an early decision that way.

The practical consequence for Dubai families is that Paper 3 is under-evidenced. School mocks often use a shortened version or omit it, because marking two long investigations for a whole cohort is expensive in teacher time. A student can therefore arrive in February of DP2 having never completed a full-length Paper 3 under timed conditions. The first full attempt is almost always a shock, and it is far better experienced in a session in November than in an examination hall in May.

A marked Paper 3 script is also the most informative single document a tutor can produce about an AI HL student. It shows whether they can read a long stem, whether they define variables before using them, whether they notice that part (e) is asking them to validate the model they built in part (b), and whether they write a conclusion in the context of the question rather than as a bare number. Those four habits are worth more than any amount of topic revision.

Ask for the attempt, the markscheme-aligned marking and the propagation trace: which later marks were lost because of which earlier decision. A tutor who can produce that for one paper can produce it for the rest. One who returns a percentage and a verbal summary has not done the work that makes the evidence useful.

Reading a markscheme: method marks, accuracy marks and follow-through

A mark on an IB mathematics markscheme is not a generic point. Method marks reward a correct approach even when the arithmetic fails afterwards. Accuracy marks reward a correct value, usually to three significant figures unless the question says otherwise. Reasoning marks reward a justification written in words. Follow-through allows a correct method applied to an earlier wrong answer to still earn credit. A student who does not know which type they are losing cannot fix the loss, and neither can a tutor working from a percentage.

This distinction changes what a session should do. A student losing method marks needs to be taught a technique. A student losing accuracy marks while keeping every method mark does not need teaching at all; they need discipline around rounding, units and transcription, and that is fixed by habit rather than by explanation. Buying teaching hours for an accuracy problem is one of the commonest wasted spends in the Dubai tutoring market, and the marked script is what exposes it.

Follow-through is the rule that most changes how a parent should read a low mark. A student can make one error in part (a) and still collect most of the marks in later parts, provided their working is visible. The corollary is brutal: a student who writes down only final answers forfeits both the method marks and the follow-through. On Paper 3, where parts chain together, invisible working can turn a single slip into a double-figure loss.

We write the mark type beside each loss on anything we return, and the six-week pattern note counts them. Four weeks of accuracy losses and no method losses is a very different brief from the reverse, and the two briefs need different tutors, different work and a different number of hours. That is the whole argument for evidence over impression.

MARK TYPES ON AN IB MATHEMATICS MARKSCHEME, AND WHAT EACH LOSS MEANS
Mark typeWhat it rewardsWhat forfeits itWhat the session changes
Method markA correct approach, even if the arithmetic then failsNo visible working, or a fundamentally wrong modelTeaching: the technique itself is missing
Accuracy markA correct value, usually to three significant figuresPremature rounding, dropped units, transcription slipsHabit: a checking routine, not more teaching
Reasoning markA justification written in words, not only symbolsA correct number with no sentence explaining itWriting practice against real command terms
Follow-throughCorrect method applied to an earlier incorrect answerAnswers written with no working to follow throughInsisting every line is written, even when obvious
Context markAn answer interpreted in the situation describedStopping at the number the calculator producedEnding every answer with one sentence in context
04

The exploration at Higher Level: a dated version history, one author

The AI HL exploration is marked out of 20 across five criteria: presentation, mathematical communication, personal engagement, reflection, and use of mathematics, with six of the twenty marks on the last of those. It carries the same 20% weight as Paper 3. The IB recommends a piece of roughly twelve to twenty pages. The evidence that it is genuinely the student's own is a dated version history, and that history is also the best protection either of you has if authorship is ever questioned.

Practically, that means keeping versions rather than overwriting one file. A first version with the topic and the data source. A second with the mathematics attempted and the gaps visible. A third after feedback, where the changes are the student's response to questions rather than text supplied to them. Dubai schools run their own internal deadlines and their own authenticity conversations, and a student who can walk a coordinator through three dated versions is in a different position from one who cannot.

The boundary on paid support is firm and we state it the same way everywhere. A tutor may teach a technique on a different example, ask what a symbol means, say where a reader loses the thread, and ask what would change the result. The student makes every choice and types every word of what is submitted. Any provider offering a finished document for a fee is selling academic malpractice, and the consequence under IB rules falls on the candidate, not the seller.

At Higher Level the commonest failure is not dishonesty but ambition. A student picks a topic requiring mathematics beyond the course, spends six weeks on it and produces something that scores poorly against criterion E because the mathematics is unsupported rather than wrong. One session testing topic viability against the AI HL toolkit in the first fortnight prevents most of that, and it produces a written note recording what was ruled out and why.

05

Raw marks against grade boundaries: what a grade rise actually requires

A grade in IB mathematics is produced by adding weighted component scores and comparing the total against boundaries set for that examination session. The boundaries are not fixed in advance and are not ours to publish; grade-boundary tables are the IB's material, and a tutoring page reproducing them would be both a copyright problem and a disservice, because a boundary from one session does not transfer cleanly to the next. What a family can work with instead is raw marks and the weighting arithmetic.

That arithmetic is worth doing once in front of the scripts. A student scoring consistently on Paper 1 and Paper 2 but leaving Paper 3 largely unattempted is carrying a 20% component at a fraction of its value, and recovering even half of that component moves the total more than a general improvement across the two long papers would. Conversely, a student losing a scatter of accuracy marks across all three papers has no single fix, and the honest answer is that the gain will be smaller and slower.

This is also where we decline to make a promise. Nobody can commit to a particular grade, because the total depends on components we do not mark and boundaries nobody knows in advance. Any provider promising a particular score in advance is describing something they do not control. What a tutor can commit to is the process: marked work every week, a count of mark types lost, and an honest statement at six weeks about whether the pattern is moving.

What progress looks like in the numbers, then, is this: the same mark type appearing less often across successive dated scripts, and a previously unattempted component starting to score. Those two movements are visible weeks before a school report reflects them, which is exactly why the evidence trail is worth more to a parent than a predicted grade.

06

The statistics half of AI HL, where the evidence usually points

Statistics and probability takes 52 of the 240 guide hours at AI HL, more than any other topic, with geometry and trigonometry at 46, functions at 42, calculus at 41 and number and algebra at 29. The weighting surprises students who chose AI expecting a lighter course than Analysis and Approaches. It is not lighter; it is differently heavy, and the weight sits on interpretation of data rather than on manipulation of symbols.

In the marked scripts, the losses concentrate in identifiable places. Choosing the wrong statistical test or regression model for the data given. Quoting a correlation coefficient without saying what it means for the situation described. Treating a p-value as a verdict rather than as evidence. Confusing the conditions under which a normal model applies. Each of those produces a distinctive pattern of lost reasoning and context marks, and each is fixable in two or three sessions once named.

The Higher Level additions are where Paper 3 draws much of its material: more demanding probability, matrices and graph theory applied to real contexts, and modelling that has to be validated rather than merely constructed. A student who can build a model but never checks it against the data will lose marks consistently in the back half of a Paper 3 question, and that is the single most common HL-specific pattern we see in Dubai scripts.

The practical sequence is to test statistics first in any diagnostic session, because it is the largest block and the one most likely to be generating losses. If the diagnostic shows statistics is secure and calculus is not, the plan changes accordingly. The point of leading with evidence rather than a standard syllabus tour is precisely so that the plan can be wrong in week one and corrected in week two.

07

Why the evidence is better from an online specialist than a nearby generalist

Lessons for UAE families run one-to-one over live video, on a shared screen where tutor and student write on the same page, timed to Gulf Standard Time around a Dubai school day. IB Gram does not offer home visits in Dubai. Home visits are a service we run only in India, and no sentence on this site should suggest otherwise to a family in this emirate.

The case for that is about the evidence rather than convenience. The International Baccalaureate accounts for 7 per cent of Dubai private school enrolment against 37 per cent for UK curricula, which means AI HL specialists are thin on the ground in any single community. Requiring a tutor to be within a tolerable drive of your villa reduces the pool to whoever is nearby and available, and the person who is nearby is often a general maths tutor rather than someone who has marked Paper 3 scripts to a markscheme.

Online delivery also improves the artefacts themselves. Work is shared as a file rather than carried in a bag, so a marked script exists in two places and can be read by a parent in another country. The shared screen leaves a written record of the session's working. Nothing is lost to a dropped folder or a forgotten exercise book, and a tutor who moves house or changes city does not end the arrangement mid-course.

The honest counterweight is that a student who will not sit still for a video lesson is not served by one, and we say so at the trial rather than afterwards. The trial exists for exactly that question. The comparison table sets the options against each other on the terms that matter for evidence: marking, turnaround, the pool you choose from and what survives if the tutor changes.

The reporting file: what we write down, what we keep, and how to delete it

  • Session notes, marked scripts and enquiry details are what we hold
  • No photographs, timetables or medical information collected
  • Deletion on request, with copies offered first
  • No published satisfaction or improvement statistics, because the method cannot be shown
  • No predicted-grade claims from a tutor who marks only part of the course

Everything described on this page creates records about a child: marked scripts, session notes, a school name, a year group and a set of grades. UAE Federal Decree-Law No. 45 of 2021 on Personal Data Protection governs that, and the honest position is to tell you what exists rather than bury it in a policy page. We keep the session notes, the marked work and the enquiry details. We do not collect a child's photograph, their full school timetable or their medical information, because none of those are needed to teach mathematics.

Deletion is a request, not a negotiation. Ask and the file goes, including the marked scripts, and we confirm when it has. The one thing we will do first is offer to send you copies, because a family that has paid for a term of marking usually wants the scripts even after they stop the lessons. Several providers in this market treat accumulated student work as their own asset; it is the student's.

The other half of honest reporting is what we refuse to publish. No satisfaction percentage, no median tutor score, no claim about what proportion of students improved, because we cannot show you the sample, the date or the method behind any of those numbers. Pages in this search carry all three, and in some cases two contradictory versions on the same page. A statistic without its sample size and its method is decoration.

What a session note will say is narrow and checkable: the date, the component, the topic, the marks available, the marks scored, the mark types lost and the single piece of follow-up work. What it will never say is that your child is on track for a particular grade. That claim depends on components nobody in this arrangement marks, and a tutor who makes it is telling you something they cannot know.

Where we tutor

Areas we cover across Dubai

AI HL students are spread thinly across Dubai, which is the practical reason this page argues for evidence over proximity. The notes below describe what each community does to a weekly slot and to the turnaround on marked work, because both affect how much evidence a term actually produces.

Dubai Marina

A dense DP population and a short school walk, so an early evening slot is easy to hold. Marked work usually comes back fastest here simply because sessions start on time and run their full hour.

Jumeirah Lakes Towers

Tower living with mixed school destinations across Sheikh Zayed Road. Families here often hold a later slot, which means written work is set for a weekend return rather than a midweek one.

Dubai Hills Estate

An early school finish makes a 4pm slot genuinely available, and that is the slot where a full timed Paper 3 attempt fits inside one session without running into dinner.

Nad Al Sheba

Served by established IB continuum schools with their own internal exploration deadlines. Those school deadlines, rather than the exam session, are what the version history of a draft gets planned around here.

Sobha Hartland

A newer corridor with growing Diploma cohorts, which means mock timetables are still settling. We ask for the published school calendar in the first week rather than assuming last year's dates apply.

Mirdif

An eastern family district with a long crossing to the western school corridor. Online delivery is what makes a fixed weekly slot survivable here, and a surviving slot is what produces a continuous evidence trail.

Dubai Silicon Oasis

Next to Academic City, with a large student population and evening slots that fill early. Booking the slot in the first week of term is the difference between twelve marked scripts in a term and seven.

School ecosystem

IB and Cambridge school communities we support in Dubai

The western IB corridor: Al Barsha, Al Sufouh and the Marina

Several Diploma cohorts within a few kilometres, which means mock papers and internal deadlines in this corridor are comparable between schools. Students we support here most often ask for Paper 3 technique and for help reading their own mock feedback.

How matching works

From first enquiry to a tutor who fits

  1. 01

Send one marked paper, not a summary

A photograph of a recent AI HL script with marks on it is the single most useful thing you can send. It shows whether the losses are method, accuracy or context, which is information no description of a child's confidence can carry. Add the school and the year group and the brief is complete.

  2. 02

    Take the free trial lesson

One lesson, free, with no card details taken and no obligation to continue. Your child works with the tutor we actually propose. The trial produces its own first artefact: a short written note on what the session found, which you keep whether or not you book anything further.

  3. 03

Agree what gets marked and when

Before the second session we state in writing what work will be set, how it comes back, and the turnaround. Marking is inside the fee rather than billed separately, because a tutor charging for marking time has a quiet reason to set very little of it.

  4. 04

Run the weekly slot and collect the scripts

A fixed Gulf Standard Time slot, work set after each session and returned marked before the next. Over a Dubai term that produces around a dozen dated scripts. Keep them in one folder; the pattern across them is the evidence, and any single script on its own is noise.

  5. 05

    Hold the six-week review properly

Six weeks in, we put the scripts on the table and make one of three decisions: continue, change the component the hours target, or stop because the pattern has resolved. Stopping is a real outcome and we will recommend it when the evidence supports it rather than letting a slot roll on.

Why families choose us

What UAE parents tell us matters most

Mark types written beside every loss

Returned work says whether a mark went on method, accuracy, reasoning or context. That distinction decides whether the next session teaches something or builds a checking habit, and the two are not interchangeable. A percentage tells you neither.

The hour-long Higher Level paper is the component Dubai school mocks most often shorten or omit. We schedule a full-length timed attempt early, because the first complete Paper 3 is always instructive and much better experienced in a session than in an exam hall.

A dated note after every single session

Short, plain and specific: date, component, topic, marks available, marks scored, mark types lost, follow-up set. Long notes are padding. A note you cannot read in thirty seconds is a note that gets filed and never used again.

A review at six weeks where stopping is allowed

The default in this market is renewal. The default here is a conversation with the scripts in front of both of us, and one of the three legitimate outcomes is that the problem is fixed and the weekly slot should end.

No numbers we cannot show you the method for

No satisfaction percentage, no improvement rate, no median tutor score. Pages in this search publish all three without a sample size or a date, and some publish two different versions of the same figure. We would rather publish nothing than that.

The work belongs to the student

Marked scripts and session notes are yours. Ask for them and they are sent; ask for deletion and the file goes, with copies offered first. Several providers treat accumulated student work as a retention tool, which is the wrong way round.

Questions parents ask

IB and IGCSE tutoring in Dubai: your questions answered

What should we see after four weeks of AI HL tutoring?+

Four dated artefacts. A written diagnosis from week one built on a real script, the first set work returned marked, a timed repeat of the original weakness in week three, and a short pattern note in week four saying whether the same mark type is still being lost. Marks may not have moved yet, and in a genuine method rebuild they sometimes dip first. What matters is that the four documents exist and that the pattern note is specific. Four pleasant sessions with nothing written down is not progress you can verify.

How do we know a marked AI HL script was marked properly?+

Look for mark types rather than a total. A properly marked script shows where a method mark was awarded despite a wrong final answer, where an accuracy mark was lost to premature rounding, and where follow-through credit carried an error forward. It should also trace propagation on Paper 3: which later marks fell because of which earlier decision. A script returned as a percentage with a comment has not been marked in any useful sense, and you cannot plan the next session from it.

What does Paper 3 evidence look like for an AI HL student?+

A full-length attempt, one hour, timed and uninterrupted, on two compulsory extended-response questions worth 55 marks between them. Marked, it should show whether the student defined variables before using them, whether they validated the model they built earlier in the question, and whether each answer ends with a sentence in the context given. Because the parts chain together, the marking should name the one decision that cost the most marks downstream. That single document is usually more informative than a term of topic quizzes.

Can we see the markscheme the tutor used on our child's paper?+

You can see the marking on your child's script, including the mark type beside each loss, and we will explain the reasoning in plain language. We do not send you IB markschemes, past papers or grade-boundary tables, because those are the IB's material and redistributing them is a copyright matter rather than a service. Schools have legitimate access through their coordinators. What we provide is our marking of your child's own work, which is the part you are actually paying for.

How many drafts of the exploration can a tutor comment on?+

Follow your school's stated policy, because the school sets the internal process and runs the authenticity conversation. The IB model is a limited round of feedback on a single version, with the student responding to questions rather than receiving replacement text. Practically, we recommend keeping three dated versions: one with topic and data source, one with the mathematics attempted, and one after feedback. Every choice and every word is the student's. A tutor who offers to supply paragraphs is offering malpractice, and the candidate carries the consequence.

Does a rise in raw marks always mean a rise in the AI HL grade?+

No. The grade comes from weighted component totals compared against boundaries set for that session, and those boundaries are not published in advance. A rise of a few raw marks spread thinly across three papers may not cross a boundary, while recovering half of an unattempted Paper 3, worth 20% of the grade, moves the total considerably. That is why the plan targets a component rather than a general improvement, and why nobody should promise you a specific grade in exchange for a specific number of hours.

What does a weekly AI HL session note actually contain?+

The date, the component covered, the topic, the marks available, the marks scored, the mark types lost and one piece of follow-up work. Nothing else. It is written so a parent can read it in half a minute, because a note in assessment vocabulary gets filed and never used. It deliberately avoids any statement about which grade your child is heading for, since a tutor marks only part of the course and cannot know how the rest will score.

How do you tell a calculator mistake from a method mistake in AI HL?+

The written working shows it. Because technology is permitted in all three AI HL papers, a wrong answer with correct visible method points at the machine or at the input: a degree-radian setting, a mistyped value, a regression run on the wrong column. A wrong answer with no working, or with working that sets up the wrong model, points at method. The two need different remedies, and that is why we insist every line is written down even when the student can see the answer.

Our school report says working at a 5. What does that tell us?+

Less than it appears to. A school grade is a teacher's judgement against that cohort and that scheme of work, often before a full set of components has been assessed, and schools in Dubai differ in how conservatively they predict. It tells you roughly where your child sits in their class. It does not tell you which mark types are being lost, whether Paper 3 has been attempted in full, or whether the exploration is viable. Those three answers come from scripts, not from a report line.

When should we stop AI HL tutoring?+

When the pattern note shows the original loss has stopped recurring across three or four successive dated scripts and no new pattern has replaced it. That is a real outcome and we will say so at the six-week review rather than let a weekly slot continue by default. Some families then keep a reduced arrangement for mock windows only, which is sensible. What we try to avoid is the arrangement that runs for two years because nobody ever scheduled the conversation about ending it.

Does the tutor talk to my child's AI HL teacher in Dubai?+

Only if you arrange it and the school agrees; the relationship is between you and the school, and we do not approach a teacher independently. What works better in practice is that you pass on the school's published mock dates, internal exploration deadlines and any written feedback, and we plan against those. Most of the useful information flows that way anyway. Where a school runs its own support clinic, we will say plainly when that free session covers what we would otherwise charge for.

How is my child's AI HL data stored and how do we delete it?+

We hold the enquiry details, the session notes and the marked work, under UAE Federal Decree-Law No. 45 of 2021 on Personal Data Protection. We do not collect photographs, a full school timetable or medical information, because teaching mathematics does not require them. Ask for deletion and the file is removed and you are told when; we offer to send you copies of the marked scripts first, because a family that paid for a term of marking should keep the output. The work is the student's, not ours.

What evidence should we ask for before paying for a second term of AI HL?+

Four things. The dated scripts from the first term in one place. A count of mark types lost, first month against last. One full-length timed Paper 3 attempt, marked with the propagation traced. And a written statement of what the next term targets, naming a component rather than the subject. If a provider cannot assemble that in an afternoon, the first term has not produced evidence, and a second term is unlikely to produce any either.

Is six weeks long enough to see AI HL progress before the May session?+

Six weeks is long enough to see whether a method has changed, which is a different question from whether a grade has. Expect three or four dated scripts, a visible shift in the mark types being lost, and a clear answer on whether Paper 3 is attemptable in full. If the aim is one narrow repair, a rounding habit or one statistical model, six weeks is often sufficient. If several components are weak at once, six weeks will tell you which to prioritise rather than fix them all.

Do you keep the marked AI HL papers, or do we?+

Both, by design. The marked file is sent to you and a copy stays with the tutor so the next session starts from the last one rather than from memory. If you change tutor inside the network, the folder moves with the student, which is one practical advantage of work that exists as files rather than in an exercise book. If you leave entirely, ask and we send everything and then delete our copy. Nothing about the arrangement depends on us holding your child's work.

Send one script and we will show you what the evidence says

The quickest way to start is a photograph of a recent AI HL paper with marks on it, plus the school and the year group. We will propose a specialist, run a free trial lesson with no card details taken, and send a short written note of what that session found whether or not you continue. From there the arrangement is a fixed weekly slot on Gulf Standard Time, work marked between sessions with the mark type named beside each loss, and a review at six weeks where continuing, changing the target component or stopping are all real options. Lessons run one-to-one over live video, fitted around a Dubai school day.
