Cambridge IGCSE Additional Maths 0606 Online Tutor in Dubai

Booking a Cambridge IGCSE Additional Maths 0606 online tutor in Dubai raises a fair question: can algebra and calculus really be taught properly through a screen? This page answers it by description rather than assertion. It sets out what happens minute by minute in a live 0606 session, what the student needs on their desk, which strands of the syllabus suit a shared screen and which need paper prepared in advance, and the four things we measure every fortnight so you can judge the arrangement yourself.

  • Shared digital whiteboard, so both people write at the same time
  • Session recordings and the written working kept for revision
  • Slots from 4pm to 9.30pm Gulf Standard Time, Sunday to Thursday
  • Fortnightly written report with the marked homework attached

How a live 0606 lesson is actually run

Mathematics is the subject parents are most sceptical about teaching remotely, and the scepticism is reasonable if what you picture is a video call with two talking heads. That format does not work for Additional Mathematics, because the entire subject is a conversation about written working. What does work is a shared writing surface: the tutor on a tablet with a stylus, the student on a tablet or writing on paper and holding it to the camera, and both people looking at the same evolving page of algebra.

A typical hour has four parts, and the proportions matter more than the technology. Roughly ten minutes go on the homework marked since the last session, starting with a question that lost marks rather than with a summary. Twenty-five to thirty minutes go on new content or a repaired topic, taught by working examples with the student writing at the same time rather than watching. Fifteen minutes go on an unaided question the student attempts while the tutor stays quiet. The last five minutes set the homework and name what will be re-tested.

The unaided fifteen minutes is the part that gets cut when a session drifts, and it is the part that decides whether the lesson did anything. A student who has watched someone differentiate a quotient has not learned to differentiate a quotient, and the only way to find out is to make them do one with the help switched off. Online this is easier to enforce than it is in a room, because the tutor can mute, let the student write, and then see the whole attempt rather than an interrupted one.

Three things are kept from each session. The whiteboard file, which becomes a growing set of worked examples in your child's own notation. The homework, marked against the published Cambridge mark scheme before the next lesson. And the error log, which groups mistakes by cause rather than by topic. Those three artefacts are what make online 0606 lessons auditable, and they are the reason a parent who never sits in on a session can still tell whether it is working.

None of that requires expensive equipment, which is the other thing worth saying early. The scientific calculator your child will take into the exam, a stable connection and some way of showing written working are the whole of the requirement, and a phone propped against a stack of books pointed at an A4 pad meets the third. Families routinely spend money on a tablet before discovering the room is the problem rather than the hardware.

What this page does not do is claim online teaching is better in every situation. A twelve-year-old who needs an adult in the room to stay on task is a different case. A sixteen-year-old working through Cambridge 0606 Paper 1 questions is not: the work is written, the feedback is written, and the scarce resource is a teacher who knows how this syllabus is marked. IB Gram does not send tutors to homes in the UAE, so what follows describes the only format we sell here and the reasons it suits this particular subject.

At a glance

  • Four-part hour: review marked work, teach, unaided practice, set homework
  • Shared whiteboard file kept as a revision set in the student's own notation
  • Homework marked to the Cambridge mark scheme between sessions
  • Error log grouped by cause, so the next session has a target
  • Slots run Sunday to Thursday evenings and Saturday mornings on Dubai time

Every IB programme stage, mapped to UAE school years

Additional Mathematics is one of several ways a school stretches a strong mathematician before sixth form, and families in Dubai are often choosing between them without being told they are choices. The four qualifications below overlap heavily in content and differ in how they are assessed, which changes both the tutoring and what a sixth form reads into the grade.

0606Ages 15-16 · Year 11

Cambridge IGCSE Additional Mathematics

Two written papers of equal weight, no coursework, single tier, reported A* to E. Content runs from functions, surds, polynomials and logarithms through trigonometric identities, radians, series, permutations and vectors to differentiation and integration. It is taken alongside a main maths IGCSE rather than instead of one, and the syllabus is openly designed as a bridge into AS Level work.

The Cambridge route is the common one in Dubai simply because most British-curriculum schools here are Cambridge centres for maths. Where a school offers Additional Mathematics at all, it usually enters the same set that is already on Extended, and the teaching often sits outside the main timetable. That timetable position, rather than the syllabus itself, is what decides how much private support a Dubai student needs.

4PM1Ages 15-16 · Year 11

Pearson Edexcel International GCSE Further Pure Mathematics

Edexcel's equivalent stretch qualification, assessed by two written papers and covering calculus, series, trigonometry, coordinate geometry, matrices and vectors. The topic list is close to 0606 without being identical: matrices appear here and not in the Cambridge syllabus, and the question style is noticeably more structured in places. A tutor needs to know which of the two a student is entered for.

A handful of Dubai schools run Edexcel for maths and Cambridge for sciences, or switch boards between year groups, so mixed entries are more common here than parents expect. Pearson runs International GCSE exams in May/June and November each year and publishes provisional timetables ahead of each series, which is why the exam dates for a 4PM1 candidate and a 0606 candidate in the same house can differ by weeks.

ASAges 16-17 · Year 12

Cambridge International AS Level Mathematics

The first year of the A Level, built around Pure Mathematics 1 and a second component. It assumes Extended IGCSE content and then moves quickly into differentiation, integration, radians, trigonometric equations and series, which is the overlap that makes 0606 useful. The step up is in algebraic fluency and in the length of the questions rather than in the ideas themselves.

Dubai sixth forms generally start Pure Mathematics 1 in the first week of September with large groups and no diagnostic period. Students who sat Additional Mathematics spend that term consolidating; students who did not spend it meeting calculus for the first time in a class moving at the pace of those who already have. Neither group is disadvantaged at the end of two years, but the autumn term feels very different.

DPAges 16-19 · Years 12-13

IB Diploma Mathematics: Analysis and Approaches

The proof-and-calculus route through IB maths, available at Standard and Higher Level, with an internal exploration written by the student over several months. Higher Level adds proof by induction, complex numbers and substantially harder algebra on top of calculus that 0606 has already introduced in outline. Standard Level overlaps with 0606 closely enough that the first term feels like revision.

Dubai has a large IB sector alongside its British one, and the 2026-27 intake adds seven new private schools, three of them International Baccalaureate, creating 16,846 new places in total. A Year 11 sitting 0606 in a school with its own IB Diploma is often heading for Analysis and Approaches rather than A Level, so the tutoring conversation should include which route is intended before the strand order is set.

Subject coverage

IB and IGCSE subjects we tutor

Families rarely need one subject in isolation. The syllabuses below are the ones most often requested alongside Additional Mathematics by Dubai Year 11 students, with the code that matters on the statement of entry and a note on what the assessment actually rewards.

Cambridge IGCSE Mathematics 0580

Core and Extended

The main maths entry in most Dubai British-curriculum schools, tiered so that Core caps the available grades and Extended does not. Marks are lost on multi-step problem-solving questions and on accuracy with algebraic fractions. Extended fluency is assumed throughout 0606, so weakness here shows up as an apparent calculus problem.

Cambridge IGCSE International Mathematics 0607

Core and Extended

The alternative Cambridge maths syllabus, written for international schools and requiring a graphics display calculator. It includes an investigation and modelling component that 0580 does not, which rewards a different skill: choosing an approach and justifying it rather than executing a known method.

Cambridge IGCSE Physics 0625

Core and Extended

Multiple-choice, theory and a practical or alternative-to-practical component. Marks go on equation recall, on describing experimental method precisely, and on the difference between describe, explain and calculate. The maths load is light but constant, which makes it a common pairing with Additional Mathematics.

Cambridge IGCSE Chemistry 0620

Core and Extended

Theory papers plus a practical or written alternative. The reliable losses are in mole calculations, in ionic equations and in the precision of definitions, where a nearly-right wording scores nothing. Students who are strong at maths often underestimate how exactly the chemistry answer has to be phrased.

Cambridge IGCSE Biology 0610

Core and Extended

Content-heavy with a practical component, assessed largely through command terms. Marks are lost by describing a graph when the question says explain, and by omitting the control in an experimental design. It is the subject where learning the examiner's vocabulary pays back fastest.

Pearson Edexcel International GCSE Further Pure Mathematics 4PM1

Single tier

Edexcel's stretch maths paper, with matrices and a heavier coordinate-geometry strand alongside the calculus. Students sitting it alongside Edexcel Mathematics A face two boards' question styles in one term, and the main tutoring task is often teaching the difference rather than the mathematics.

Cambridge IGCSE Computer Science 0478

Single tier

Theory and problem-solving papers covering data representation, networks, algorithms and programming concepts. Pseudocode questions are where marks concentrate, and where a mathematically able student can lose heavily by writing code that works instead of pseudocode that matches the syllabus conventions.

Cambridge IGCSE Economics 0455

Single tier

Two papers, one multiple choice and one structured, with diagram accuracy carrying a large share of the available marks. Labelled axes, correctly shifted curves and a stated new equilibrium are mechanical marks that students who revise only the prose consistently leave on the table.

Cambridge IGCSE First Language English 0500

Single tier

Reading and writing papers assessed against published criteria rather than a content list. Marks are lost in the directed-writing task by answering the topic instead of the brief: audience, form and purpose are all assessed, and a well-written response in the wrong register is capped.

Cambridge IGCSE Business Studies 0450

Single tier

Case-study-led, with application marks that require the answer to refer to the specific business in the insert. Generic textbook answers score the knowledge mark and nothing above it, which is the single most common reason a confident student stalls at a middling grade.

How sessions run

Tutoring formats built around UAE school timetables

Three shapes of booking, all one-to-one over live video on Gulf Standard Time. The difference between them is not price per hour but what the hour is used for, which is the thing most worth getting right at the start of Year 11.

Weekend 90-minute double

One longer Saturday or Friday morning session instead of a weekday hour. It suits students whose weekday evenings are full and students who need an uninterrupted run at a long calculus question. The length allows a full teach, practise and unaided-attempt cycle inside one sitting rather than across two.

  • 90 minutes with a short break, usually mid-morning
  • One complete strand covered and tested in the same session
  • Homework set for the following weekend, marked before it
  • Works well when both parents are at home to see the session

Pre-mock intensive

A three to four week block before the school's January mock, aimed at the strands the mock will actually test rather than the whole syllabus. The output is a timed-paper profile showing where the clock runs out, which is the information the mock itself will otherwise deliver too late to act on.

  • Two sessions a week for three or four weeks
  • Timed question sets rather than full papers until pace improves
  • A pacing profile naming the question where time is lost
  • Ends before the mock, not during it

Fortnightly check-in with marked homework

A lighter arrangement for a student who is coping but drifting: homework set and marked every two weeks, with a session to go through it. It costs less and demands more of the student, and it is honest about what it is, which is maintenance rather than teaching.

  • One session every two weeks, with marking in between
  • Error log maintained across the whole year
  • Escalates to weekly if two consecutive logs show the same cause
  • Suited to students already at or above their target

What IB and IGCSE study actually looks like in Dubai

01

What the student needs on the desk, and what is optional

The single piece of equipment that changes the quality of an online maths lesson is a way for the student to write and be seen writing. Everything else is convenience. A tablet with a stylus is the comfortable answer, but a mobile phone on a stand pointed at an A4 pad achieves most of the same thing, and in some ways better, because the student practises on paper exactly as they will in the exam room.

A scientific calculator is not optional. The 0606 syllabus assumes one, and the model the student uses in the exam is the model they should use every session, because keystroke familiarity with statistics menus, radian mode and fraction entry is itself a source of marks. The commonest avoidable error in Additional Mathematics is a calculator left in degrees for a question set in radians, and that is a habit problem solved by using the same device for a year.

A headset matters more than most families expect. Mathematics teaching contains a lot of short, precise verbal correction, and a laptop microphone in a tiled Dubai apartment picks up enough reverberation to make that tiring across a 90-minute session. Wired earphones with an inline microphone solve it for under a hundred dirhams, which is a better first purchase than a tablet.

One thing that is not equipment at all deserves a line. The room matters more than the hardware: a door that closes, a desk rather than a bed, and a household that knows the slot is booked will do more for the session than any device on the list. The table below separates what is genuinely needed from what is merely convenient, with an indicative Dubai retail cost and a workaround where one exists.

02

Which 0606 strands suit a screen, and which need paper prepared first

  • Suits a screen directly: logarithms, polynomials, series, counting, calculus procedure
  • Needs diagrams prepared in advance: circular measure, vectors, modulus graphs
  • Done at home and reviewed in session: timed papers and full mock papers
  • Hardest to do remotely: nothing in the syllabus, but pacing needs the split above

Not every part of the syllabus behaves the same way over video, and pretending otherwise is how online lessons get a bad reputation. Strands built on manipulation and procedure work extremely well: logarithms, polynomials, series, permutations and combinations, and most of differentiation and integration are taught by working an example line by line, which is exactly what a shared writing surface is good at. The student writes along, the tutor sees the line where it went wrong, and the correction lands on that line.

Strands with heavy diagram work need a little preparation. Circular measure questions involving composite sectors, vector geometry with a ratio dividing a line, and modulus graph sketching all benefit from the diagram existing on paper before the session starts, because drawing it live on a tablet is slower than drawing it with a pencil. The practical fix is simple: the tutor sends two or three questions ahead, the student prints or copies the diagrams, and the session spends its time on the mathematics rather than on the drawing.

The strand that needs the most deliberate handling is pacing. A timed paper cannot be sat usefully inside a lesson, because an hour of supervised writing is an expensive way to produce a script. The arrangement that works is sitting the paper at home under timed conditions, photographing it, and using the session to go through the marked version. That split is the main structural difference between online and in-room tutoring for this subject, and once it is understood it tends to produce more timed practice rather than less.

03

Scheduling a Dubai school week on Gulf Standard Time

The Dubai school week runs Monday to Friday in most private schools, with a weekend on Saturday and Sunday, and that shapes which slots are worth booking. Thursday evening is the worst weekday slot in practice, because the weekend has effectively begun and attention is thin. Sunday evening is the best, because it sits before the week's homework has accumulated and after the student has rested, and because anything set in it has five days to be done.

Timing within the day matters as much as the day. Buses reach the outer communities after 4.30pm, so a 5pm start only works for families close to school. The window that works almost everywhere is 6.30pm to 8.30pm, which clears the bus, dinner and the worst of the traffic that a visiting tutor would otherwise be sitting in. Weekend mornings are the other reliable slot, and they are the only ones long enough for a 90-minute double.

The Dubai calendar then moves things twice a year. Mock examinations cluster in January and are worth planning around rather than through: the sensible pattern is an intensive block ending before the mocks and a lighter fortnight during them. Ramadan shortens school days and shifts family routine substantially, and sessions can move to post-Iftar timing for the month.

Two smaller things are worth building in from the start. The first is the half-term and winter break, when families here travel heavily and a slot left unbooked for three weeks is hard to recover; a short holiday block, or an agreed pause with a restart date, beats letting the arrangement lapse. The second is the fixed slot itself, held for the whole term rather than agreed week by week, because a schedule renegotiated every Sunday is the reason fourteen planned sessions quietly become nine. The table sets out the week as it actually works, slot by slot.

The four numbers tracked every fortnight

Progress in a maths subject is usually reported as a feeling, and a feeling cannot be checked. The four measures below are deliberately crude, cheap to produce from work that is being marked anyway, and sent to you with the marked scripts attached. None of them is a predicted grade, because a predicted grade from a tutor is a guess dressed as data and your child's school is the only party positioned to issue one.

What the four together show is direction. Method-mark capture rising while accuracy stays flat means the understanding is arriving and the arithmetic is not, which is a different intervention from the reverse. A re-test score that does not move after two attempts at the same strand is the signal to change approach, and it is the one number that occasionally ends an arrangement, which is the point of measuring it.

The reason this sits on an online page rather than being a universal claim is that remote delivery makes it easier. Everything is already digital: the whiteboard file, the photographed script, the marked PDF. Producing a fortnightly note is a few minutes of work when the artefacts exist, and it is a chore when they are sheets of paper in a student's bag.

A word on what these are not. They are not benchmarked against other students, because a sample of one tells you nothing about a cohort and we hold no dataset worth quoting. They are not a substitute for the school's own assessments, which test the whole syllabus on a calendar the school controls. They are a record of whether the specific thing worked on two weeks ago has stuck, which is the only question a weekly tutoring arrangement is in a position to answer honestly. The format is below with what each number can and cannot tell you.

FORTNIGHTLY 0606 PROGRESS MEASURES - WHAT EACH ONE DOES AND DOES NOT SHOW
MeasureHow it is producedWhat counts as movementWhat it cannot tell you
Method-mark capture rateMarked homework, method marks counted separately from accuracyA rising share of available method marks on unfamiliar questionsWhether the final answers are right
Accuracy-mark loss by causeError log grouped into notation, justification, interval, arithmeticOne named cause disappearing from two consecutive logsAnything about strands not yet covered

Timed-section completionA timed set sat at home, photographed, marked in sessionFinishing the set, before any discussion of the scorePerformance under real exam-hall conditions
05

What a 0606 session cannot do, and the three jobs that stay with the school

An online tutor is a narrow instrument and it is worth saying what sits outside the arrangement. The entry itself stays with the school: which syllabus codes a child is entered for, whether Additional Mathematics is on the list, and whether an entry can still be withdrawn are all decisions made by the exams officer against a Cambridge deadline. A tutor can tell you what to ask and when, and has no standing to do more than that.

Predicted grades stay with the school as well. Sixth-form and university applications use the school's prediction, informed by its own assessments, and no external tutor should be offering a number for that purpose. The same applies to access arrangements for extra time or other support, which are applied for by the school under Cambridge regulations and require its own evidence. A tutor who claims to arrange any of that is describing something they cannot do.

The third job that stays with the school is the one parents find hardest to accept: coverage. If a school has not taught half the syllabus by March, tutoring can mitigate and cannot replace it, and the honest conversation is with the head of maths rather than with us. Where we can help is in making that conversation specific, because a parent arriving with a marked script and a list of untaught strands is in a much stronger position than a parent arriving worried.

There is a fourth limit that is about us rather than the school. IB Gram does not offer home visits in Dubai, so if what your family needs is an adult physically present in the room, this is not the right service and we would rather say that at the start than discover it in week three. In-home tuition is something we run only in India. Within the UAE the format is one-to-one over live video, and the whole argument of this page is that for a sixteen-year-old working through written mathematics, that format costs less and reaches a narrower specialist.

06

Checking that the tutor is permitted to teach, and what we do not claim

Private tutoring in the UAE is regulated, and a parent is entitled to ask about it directly. The relevant instrument is the private tuition work permit introduced under Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023, administered by MoHRE through its smart app, website and e-services system under the service name Issuance of a New Work Permit - Private Tutor Licensing, with a stated completion time of two working days and no fee. Anyone offering private tutoring without a permit is subject to fines and penalties under the applicable laws; no schedule of amounts is published, so no figure should be quoted to you.

Two further rules are worth knowing. A tutoring operation with premises and staff in Dubai is a different legal animal from an individual tutor and needs a KHDA Educational Services Permit for a training institute, renewed annually. And in Abu Dhabi, ADEK's professional-ethics rules bar private and charter school staff from paid private tutoring of students enrolled at their own school, a restriction the MoHRE permit's code of conduct also reflects. Marketing a child's own teacher privately is therefore not a service any honest provider offers.

IB Gram's own position is stated plainly because several pages in this market are vague about it. We are a matching platform. We hold no KHDA, ADEK, SPEA, Ministry of Education, MoHRE, Cambridge or IB endorsement, we are not a licensed school or training institute in the UAE, and we have no office in the country. Lessons are delivered one-to-one over live video; IB Gram does not offer home visits in Dubai, since in-home tuition is a service we run only in India. The table sets out who needs a permit and how a parent can check.

Why online 0606 tuition is usually cheaper as well as narrower

Published Dubai rates group into bands rather than points. Budget online tutors, often university students, advertise from roughly AED 45 to 150 an hour. Qualified subject tutors working online sit around AED 150 to 300. In-home visits run about AED 180 to 500 once travel is priced in, and specialist IGCSE or A Level tutors AED 200 to 450, with premium named tutors quoted as high as AED 650. Those figures come from the providers' own pages and from Bestimate's 2026 Dubai cost survey, and none of them is an IB Gram price.

The gap between the online and in-home bands is not a quality discount. It is the travel that is no longer being bought, plus the fact that a tutor who does not drive can sell more slots in an evening and does not need each one to carry a dead hour. For a scarce syllabus the second effect matters more: the pool of people who teach Additional Mathematics and can work Gulf Standard Time is many times larger than the pool who teach it and live twenty minutes from your community.

There is one genuine cost that moves the other way, and it belongs on the page. Online marking takes real time, and a tutor who marks properly to the published mark scheme between sessions is doing work that a cheaper hourly rate does not include. When comparing quotes, the question to ask is not the rate but what happens between the lessons, because an arrangement with no marking is a conversation rather than a course, whatever it costs per hour.

08

Honesty boundaries in a subject assessed entirely by exam

Additional Mathematics carries no coursework and no practical, so there is no portfolio an adult could interfere with. That removes the largest integrity risk in international education before it arises, and it is worth stating because this market contains providers selling finished assessed work for other subjects at published prices. Nothing of that kind is on offer here, in any subject, and it would put a student at risk of malpractice proceedings rather than help them.

The boundary in an exam-only subject sits around materials and marking. A tutor may teach, set questions, mark them against the published mark scheme, and explain why a mark was awarded or withheld. A tutor may not supply material a board has not released, may not redistribute syllabus documents, past papers or mark schemes as downloads, and may not sit or submit anything on a student's behalf. The right practice is to work from the official source at cambridgeinternational.org and link to it.

The other boundary is about claims. We publish no grade promises, no star ratings, no student numbers and no success percentages, because any figure of that kind would need its sample size, date and method on the same page to mean anything, and most that circulate in this market have none of the three. What this page offers instead is a description of the work specific enough that you can tell within six weeks whether it is being done.

The last boundary concerns your child's data. A tutoring arrangement collects a name, a school, a set of marks and sometimes photographs of written work, and under UAE Federal Decree-Law No. 45 of 2021 on personal data protection that collection needs a stated purpose and a route to deletion. Ours is narrow by design: what is needed to match a tutor and to mark the work, kept while the arrangement runs, deleted on request. A form that asks for a child's school, grades and photograph without saying why is a reasonable thing to refuse, wherever you see it.

Where we tutor

Areas we cover across Dubai

For online lessons the geography that matters is domestic rather than municipal: where in the apartment the student can work undisturbed, and what the connection does at eight in the evening. The notes below cover the practical constraints families in each of these Dubai communities raise most often.

Downtown Dubai and Business Bay

Small apartments with the study space usually a corner of a shared living room. The recommendation here is a headset and a fixed slot the household knows about, because the interruption rate matters more than the bandwidth, which in these towers is rarely the constraint.

Dubai Silicon Oasis and Academic City

A dense student population and strong connectivity, with several large British and Indian-curriculum schools inside the same ring road. Sessions here often run earlier than the Dubai average because the commute home is short, which makes a 5pm slot genuinely available.

The Greens, The Views and Barsha Heights

Mid-rise apartments with families who moved from villa communities for the school commute. The common issue is a younger sibling in the same room, which is solved by scheduling the 0606 session after the younger child's bedtime rather than by buying better equipment.

Motor City and Dubai Sports City

A long bus run from the central school cluster and arrivals often after 4.30pm. Families here tend to use the 7pm to 8.30pm window, and a 90-minute double at the weekend as well during the eight weeks before the written papers.

Nad Al Sheba and Meydan

Large villas where the student usually has a dedicated desk, which removes the hardest variable. The constraint is the number of competing commitments on weekday evenings, so the fixed-slot discipline is the thing worth insisting on from September.

Al Furjan and Discovery Gardens

A high proportion of families who arrived mid-academic-year, which is why catch-up blocks rather than year-long arrangements are the normal request here. Two sessions a week for six weeks closes a half-syllabus gap in a way one session a term cannot.

Deira, Al Mamzar and Garhoud

Older established communities on the Creek side with a long drive to the newer school clusters. This is where removing travel from the arrangement makes the clearest difference, because a visiting tutor would spend more time on Al Ittihad Road than in the lesson.

Schools in this group often run 0607 rather than 0580 for mainstream maths, and enter Additional Mathematics only for students heading towards Analysis and Approaches at Higher Level. Sessions for these students usually need to bridge two question styles at once.

Indian-curriculum schools running Cambridge streams

Several long-established Dubai schools run a CBSE or ICSE mainstream alongside a Cambridge IGCSE stream. Students moving between those streams arrive with strong procedural algebra and limited experience of Cambridge command terms, which is a specific and quickly fixable gap.

  • GEMS Modern Academy
  • The Indian High School Dubai
  • Our Own English High School
  • GEMS Our Own Indian School
  • JSS International School
  • Delhi Private School Dubai

These schools are named to describe the Dubai market only; IB Gram has no relationship with any of them and makes no claim about their results or their entry choices, which change from year to year.

How matching works

From first enquiry to a tutor who fits

  1. 01

Send the codes and the series

The statement of entry or the school's option sheet tells us whether the maths entry is 0580 or 0607, whether Additional Mathematics is on it, and which series applies. A 0606 candidate and a 4PM1 candidate need different tutors, and the only way to know which you have is the paperwork rather than the subject name.

  2. 02

Check the setup in the trial

The free 45-minute trial lesson doubles as an equipment check: whether the writing surface works, whether the audio is usable in that room, and whether the slot is realistic once the bus has arrived. It costs nothing, needs no card, and if the setup needs changing you find out before you have paid for a term.

  3. 03

    Agree the four measures

Before the first paid session we confirm what will be sent to you every fortnight: the method-mark capture rate, the error log by cause, the re-test delta and the timed-section completion, with marked scripts attached. Agreeing this in writing is what stops the arrangement becoming unverifiable three months in.

  4. 04

Protect one slot and run it

The weekly slot is booked for the term rather than week by week, because a moving slot is the main reason fourteen planned sessions become nine. Sessions run one-to-one over live video on Gulf Standard Time, typically between 6.30pm and 8.30pm or on a weekend morning.

  5. 05

Review at six weeks, and change if it is flat

At about six weeks there is enough evidence for a real decision. If the re-test delta and the error log show nothing moving, the response is a changed approach or a changed tutor, not more hours. We will say so rather than wait for you to notice, and no part of this involves a prediction about a grade.

Why families choose us

What UAE parents tell us matters most

The hour is structured, not improvised

Review marked work, teach, unaided practice, set homework. The unaided block is protected because it is the only part that reveals whether the teaching landed. Sessions that drift into a tutor working examples for fifty minutes feel productive and leave the student unable to start a question alone.

Everything is written down and kept

The whiteboard file, the marked script and the error log accumulate across the year into a revision set in your child's own notation. Nothing depends on remembering what was said in a lesson in October, which is the usual failure mode of tuition that produces no artefacts.

Marked to the published scheme, with method marks split out

Seeing method and accuracy marks separately tells you which marks were lost to understanding and which to carelessness. Those need opposite responses, and a single percentage conceals the difference entirely. The mark scheme is the one at cambridgeinternational.org, used as the reference rather than redistributed.

Built around the Dubai week, including Ramadan

Slots clear the school bus, mock season is planned around rather than through, and sessions move to post-Iftar timing during Ramadan by arrangement. A schedule that ignores the local calendar quietly loses a third of its sessions to clashes nobody wrote down.

Limits stated in writing

No regulator endorsement, no office in the UAE, no grade promises, no statistics without their method. Entries, predicted grades and access arrangements belong to the school and we will tell you so. Market rates quoted here are attributed to whoever published them and are not our price list.

Questions parents ask

IB and IGCSE tutoring in Dubai: your questions answered

Can calculus really be taught properly over a video call?+

Yes, provided both people can write on the same surface and the student does the writing. A shared digital whiteboard with a tutor on a stylus and the student either on a tablet or writing on paper to camera reproduces the thing that matters, which is the line-by-line conversation about working. What does not work is a video call where the student watches. That is why the session structure protects fifteen minutes of unaided attempt with the tutor silent, and why every session ends with homework that has to be produced on paper.

What equipment does my child need for online 0606 lessons?+

Three things are genuinely required: the exam-approved scientific calculator they will use in the exam, a way to show written working live, and a connection stable enough not to drop mid-question. A headset is strongly advised because mathematics teaching involves constant short corrections and a laptop microphone in a tiled room makes those tiring. A tablet with a stylus is comfortable but optional; a phone on a stand pointed at an A4 pad works, and has the advantage that your child practises on paper exactly as they will in the exam room.

Which evening slot works best for a Dubai Year 11?+

Sunday between 6.30pm and 8.30pm is the most useful weekday slot, because homework set in it has five days before the next session and the student has rested over the weekend. Thursday evening is the weakest, since the weekend has effectively started. Buses reach the outer communities after 4.30pm, so a 5pm start only suits families living close to school. Weekend mornings are the other reliable window and the only ones long enough for a 90-minute double, which matters in the eight weeks before the papers.

How do you measure whether the tutoring is working?+

Four crude measures, produced from work that is being marked anyway and sent to you every fortnight with the scripts attached. Method-mark capture rate shows whether the approach is arriving. The error log, grouped by cause rather than topic, shows which specific habit is still costing marks. A re-test on the same question type two to three weeks after teaching shows retention. Timed-section completion shows pacing. None of them is a predicted grade, which is the school's job and not a tutor's.

Do you record the sessions so my child can revise from them?+

The written working is kept as the primary record: the whiteboard file from each session accumulates into a set of worked examples in your child's own notation, which is more useful for revision than a video nobody rewatches. Session recordings can be kept where a family wants them, with the usual caveat that recordings of a minor need a stated purpose and a way to have them deleted, consistent with UAE Federal Decree-Law No. 45 of 2021 on personal data protection. The error log and marked scripts are the documents that actually drive the next session.

How does Ramadan change a weekly 0606 schedule in Dubai?+

Yes, and most families ask for it. School days shorten during Ramadan and household routine shifts substantially, so insisting on a 6.30pm slot through the month tends to produce missed sessions rather than progress. The usual arrangement is shorter sessions after Iftar, focused on recall and notation rather than on new calculus content, with the normal pattern resuming afterwards. Because the lessons are over live video, the change costs nothing to make and does not depend on a tutor's travel plans.

How much does an online Additional Maths tutor in Dubai cost?+

Published Dubai bands are the honest answer. Budget online tutors advertise from around AED 45 to 150 an hour, qualified online subject tutors AED 150 to 300, in-home visits AED 180 to 500 with travel included, specialists AED 200 to 450, and premium named tutors as high as AED 650. Those come from providers' own pages and Bestimate's 2026 Dubai survey rather than from us. Additional Mathematics sits at the upper end of whichever band applies because few people teach it, and our own figure comes on a consultation after the free trial.

Is a group class a reasonable alternative for 0606?+

Rarely in Dubai, for an unglamorous reason: the cohort is too small. A tuition centre needs three or four students at the same stage of the same syllabus at the same time, and Additional Mathematics candidates in any one community are usually too few and too differently taught for that. Where a group does form, it tends to teach the syllabus from the front, which suits nobody who has already met half of it. Group pricing is lower per student, so the trade is real, but the matching problem is the reason it seldom appears.

My son is entered for 4PM1 rather than 0606. Does the tutor change?+

It should. Pearson Edexcel International GCSE Further Pure Mathematics 4PM1 covers much of the same ground as Cambridge 0606 but includes matrices, weights coordinate geometry more heavily and sets questions in a noticeably different style. A tutor fluent in one board's mark scheme is not automatically fluent in the other's, and the differences cost marks precisely where a student is otherwise competent. Send the statement of entry rather than the subject name, because mixed-board entries are more common in Dubai than families expect.

What happens in the first paid session after the trial?+

The first session works from the strand map and error log produced in the free trial, so it starts at a named weakness rather than at the front of the syllabus. Typically that means one strand taught with the student writing along, fifteen minutes of unaided practice on the same material, and homework set to be marked before the next lesson. You receive the written plan before that session, naming the strand order, the homework pattern and what will be sent to you every fortnight.

Can the tutor talk to my child's maths teacher at school?+

Only if the school wants that, and it is the school's call rather than ours. Many Dubai heads of maths are willing to share the scheme of work and the assessment calendar with a parent, which is almost as useful and much easier to arrange. What we would rather not do is create a channel in which an external tutor appears to speak for the school on entries, predicted grades or access arrangements, because those decisions belong to the school and a tutor has no standing in them.

Does my child need to sit timed papers at home rather than in the lesson?+

Yes, and that split is the main structural difference between online and in-room tutoring for this subject. Using a paid hour to supervise silent writing is an expensive way to produce a script. The arrangement that works is sitting the paper at home under timed conditions, photographing it, and spending the session on the marked version question by question. In practice this produces more timed practice than in-room tutoring does, because the limit stops being how many hours you have bought.

How quickly can an online 0606 tutor start in Dubai?+

For most evening slots, days rather than weeks, with the free trial usually available within the first week of asking. The constraint is not geography but the size of the specialist pool for this syllabus, which tightens sharply between January and May as mock results arrive. Autumn is the easy season and the spring is not. If no specialist is free at your preferred time we will say so and set out the alternatives rather than matching a general maths tutor to a 0606 request.

Is online tutoring suitable if my child is easily distracted?+

It depends on the age and the room more than on the format. A sixteen-year-old working on a specific syllabus with a protected unaided-practice block and homework that gets marked is generally fine, because the structure does the work that physical presence would otherwise do. A younger child who needs an adult present to stay on task is a different case, and we would say so rather than sell a format that will not suit. The practical fixes are a headset, a door that closes and a slot the whole household knows about.

What should I ask any Dubai tutor before paying the first invoice?+

Five questions. Does their permit exist and is it in their own name, under Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023. What happens between sessions, and specifically whether homework is marked to the published mark scheme. What you will receive in writing, and how often. Whether the quoted rate is per hour or per session, and whether it includes marking. And what happens if the match does not work. Any provider promising a grade, claiming a regulator's approval, or quoting a fine amount for unlicensed tutoring is telling you something useful about themselves.

Book the trial as a setup test, not a sales call

The useful thing to do next is cheap. Book the free 45-minute trial lesson and treat it as a test of three things at once: whether the writing surface and audio work in the room your child will actually use, whether the slot survives contact with the school bus, and whether the tutor can mark a 0606 question and tell you what the mark scheme wanted. You keep the strand map and the error log afterwards whether or not you continue, no card is required and there is nothing to cancel. Send the statement of entry with the maths codes on it, say which evenings are realistic on Dubai time, and we will tell you plainly what is available.
