Cambridge IGCSE International Maths 0607 Home Tutor in Dubai

Hiring a Cambridge IGCSE International Maths 0607 home tutor in Dubai is a purchase most families make once, under pressure, with very little information. This page is written to fix that. It covers who can actually teach this syllabus in the emirate, what in-home visits cost in money and in minutes, the seven questions worth asking before the first invoice, and how to run a trial lesson as a test. IB Gram delivers 0607 one-to-one over live video, and the comparison is set out plainly so you can judge it.

  • Seven screening questions you can use on any Dubai tutor, not just ours
  • Supply explained: who teaches 0607 here and who only teaches 0580
  • Trial lesson designed as an assessment, with the notes handed to you
  • A defined six-session block available instead of an open-ended term

The decision you are actually making

Most families searching for a 0607 home tutor in Dubai are not comparing tutors. They are reacting to something: a mock result, a parents' evening, a child who has stopped doing maths homework. The search happens in an evening, two or three providers get a message, and the one that answers first with a plausible rate gets the booking. That is how a tutoring decision usually gets made, and it is why so many of them are abandoned by week five.

A better approach costs almost nothing and takes about a week. Establish what the syllabus actually is, which this page sets out. Establish who can teach it, which is a smaller group than the market suggests. Ask a short list of screening questions, which are printed below so you can use them on anyone. Run a trial as a test rather than a sales call. Then decide, with a written plan in front of you, whether to buy six sessions or a term.

The home-tutoring question deserves a straight answer rather than a sales argument. In-home one-to-one visits in Dubai are widely available and published market rates run roughly AED 180 to 500 an hour once travel is accounted for, against about AED 150 to 300 for a qualified subject tutor working online. The difference is not a quality discount; it is the road. A tutor who crosses the emirate for a single hour has to price the journey somewhere, usually as a higher rate or a two-hour minimum.

For International Mathematics there is a second constraint that matters more than price. The number of people in Dubai who teach 0607 specifically, with the graphics display calculator and the investigation paper included, is small. Filtering that group by driving distance from your community leaves very few names, and the shortlist is then made of whoever is near rather than whoever knows the syllabus. That is the trade this page asks you to look at honestly.

It is worth being clear about what this page is not. It is not an argument that in-home tutoring is a poor product, because for some children and some households it is clearly the right one, and there are capable independent tutors in Dubai doing it well. It is an argument that for one narrow syllabus, sat by a small cohort, the location filter costs you more than it buys. Reasonable families will read the same comparison and reach a different answer, and the point of printing the numbers is that the decision stays yours.

IB Gram does not offer home visits in Dubai; in-home tuition is a service we run only in India. In the UAE every lesson is one-to-one over live video on Gulf Standard Time. The rest of the page is written so that the comparison is checkable rather than asserted: supply, cost, household logistics, screening questions, what a trial should produce, and the point at which you should walk away from an arrangement that is not working.

IB programmes

Every IB programme stage, mapped to UAE school years

Before comparing tutors it helps to be sure what your child is being examined on, because a surprising number of Dubai families discover at the first session that the syllabus they described is not the one on the statement of entry. These four are the ones most often confused with each other in this emirate.

0607Ages 14-16 · Years 10-11

Cambridge IGCSE International Mathematics

Three components in either Core or Extended tier, a graphics display calculator assumed throughout, and an investigation component that no other Cambridge maths syllabus carries. Written for international schools and aligned to the IB Diploma maths courses. If this is the code on the entry, a tutor needs to be fluent with the device and to have read investigation scripts before.

In Dubai this is the signature of an IB-continuum or international school rather than a British-curriculum one. Families moving between the two sectors inside the emirate sometimes change maths syllabus without being told it is a change, which is why the statement of entry rather than the school's prospectus is the document to work from when hiring help.

0580Ages 14-16 · Years 10-11

Cambridge IGCSE Mathematics

The mainstream Cambridge maths syllabus, Core and Extended, with no investigation component and a scientific calculator rather than a graphics one. Far more candidates sit it worldwide, so the tutor pool is much larger and quotes are correspondingly lower. The content overlaps heavily with 0607 without the technology or the open-ended reasoning.

This is the default in most Dubai British-curriculum schools and it is the reason a general maths tutor in the emirate is usually a 0580 tutor. Hiring one for a 0607 candidate is not a disaster, since most of the content transfers, but it means two parts of the examined course are being left alone and you should know that before paying rather than after.

A LevelAges 16-18 · Years 12-13

Cambridge International AS & A Level Mathematics

The two-year sixth-form route in most Dubai British-curriculum schools, built from Pure Mathematics plus Mechanics or Statistics components. It assumes Extended IGCSE content and then moves quickly into calculus and radians. A student arriving from 0607 Extended brings strong graph reasoning and will need to build algebraic stamina.

Worth knowing even if your child is in Year 10, because the sixth form a family is aiming at changes which tier is the right 0607 entry. Dubai sixth forms set their own entry requirements for maths and publish them, so the honest way to settle the question is to read the requirement for the school you have in mind rather than to ask a tutor.

DPAges 16-19 · Years 12-13

IB Diploma Mathematics, both routes

Analysis and Approaches for the algebra-and-proof route, Applications and Interpretation for the modelling-and-technology route, each at Standard or Higher Level, both with an internal exploration written by the student. The 0607 syllabus was designed with these courses in view, which is why the calculator and investigation work transfer so directly.

Dubai's IB sector is expanding: the 2026-27 intake adds seven new private schools, three of them International Baccalaureate, among 16,846 new places in total. Many of those schools examine IGCSE at sixteen before the Diploma, so a Year 10 maths tier decision made this term is in practice a decision about which Diploma course is comfortable in two years.

Subject coverage

IB and IGCSE subjects we tutor

Households rarely need one subject in isolation, and a Dubai family hiring for 0607 often has a second request within a term. The codes below are the ones most commonly paired with International Mathematics in this emirate, with a note on what each assessment actually rewards.

Cambridge IGCSE Additional Mathematics 0606

Single tier, A* to E

Taken alongside a main maths entry by strong candidates, adding differentiation, integration, logarithms, series, radians and vectors. Two written papers, no coursework. It is the usual stretch option in British-curriculum Dubai schools, and it is a different hire from a 0607 tutor despite both being maths.

Cambridge IGCSE Physics 0625

Core and Extended

Multiple choice, theory and either a practical test or the written alternative. Marks concentrate in equation recall, in precise experimental description, and in the gap between describe, explain and calculate. It is the commonest second request from families already booking maths support.

Cambridge IGCSE Chemistry 0620

Core and Extended

Theory papers with a practical or written alternative. Mole calculations and ionic equations are where marks move, and definitions are marked for precision rather than for gist, so a nearly-correct wording scores nothing at all.

Cambridge IGCSE Biology 0610

Core and Extended

Content-heavy and assessed largely through command terms, with a practical component. Students lose marks by describing a trend when asked to explain it, and by omitting the control when asked to design an investigation.

Cambridge IGCSE Arabic as a Foreign Language 0544

Single tier

Listening, reading and writing components for non-native learners. The writing task is assessed on accuracy and on range, so a student who writes safely in short sentences caps their own mark. Dubai students often take this alongside the mandatory school Arabic provision rather than instead of it.

Cambridge IGCSE French 0520

Single tier

Listening, reading, writing and a speaking component assessed by the school. The speaking element is where preparation pays most, because it rewards extended, prepared answers to predictable prompts rather than spontaneous fluency.

Cambridge IGCSE Spanish 0530

Single tier

The same shape as French, with a widely used Dubai cohort. Marks are lost on tense accuracy in the writing paper more than on vocabulary, which makes targeted grammar correction on the student's own written work the highest-yield support.

Cambridge IGCSE Geography 0460

Single tier

Physical and human geography with case-study requirements and a skills paper. The skills paper, including map and graph interpretation, is the component where a mathematically confident student can gain quickly, and it is often the least revised.

Cambridge IGCSE History 0470

Single tier

Source-based and essay papers in which the mark depends on using evidence to support an argument rather than on recalling more of it. Students who write everything they know and reach no judgement consistently stall in the middle bands.

Cambridge IGCSE Information and Communication Technology 0417

Single tier

A theory paper plus practical components assessed on documents, databases and spreadsheets produced to a brief. Marks go on following the brief exactly, so students who produce something better than what was asked for still lose the mark.

How sessions run

Tutoring formats built around UAE school timetables

Three ways to buy 0607 support, all one-to-one over live video on Gulf Standard Time. The first exists because a single session is sometimes the right purchase, and saying so is more useful than pretending every family needs a term.

Single session after the trial

One paid session, bought on its own, usually to answer a specific question: whether the tier is right, what a mock script actually shows, or how to approach an investigation task. It is a legitimate purchase and it is sometimes all a capable student needs. Nobody is asked to commit to a package to get it.

  • No minimum booking and no package requirement
  • Written notes and an error log sent afterwards
  • Often used to settle a Core or Extended question with evidence
  • Can be repeated termly as a check rather than as teaching

Six-session block with a defined endpoint

A finite arrangement with a stated goal, a start and an end, and a written review at the end of it. It suits families who do not want an open-ended commitment and students who need one specific thing fixed: calculator fluency, the non-calculator paper, or investigation technique.

  • Six sessions, a named target and a written closing review
  • Homework marked between every session
  • Renewed deliberately rather than rolling on by default
  • Price agreed for the block, with marking included

Shared sibling slot

Two children in the same household taught in one longer session, which works when both are on content review at a similar stage and does not work for investigation tasks or for different syllabuses. We will say which case yours is rather than take the booking and let it fail quietly in week three.

  • 90 minutes split with a shared review and separate practice
  • Only offered where both children are on the same syllabus and tier
  • Separate marked work and separate fortnightly notes
  • Declined, with reasons, where the mix will not work

01

Who can actually teach 0607 in Dubai

The supply question is the one that decides everything else, and no provider in this market publishes an honest answer to it. Dubai has a large population of maths teachers and tutors, and the great majority of them teach Cambridge 0580, Edexcel Mathematics A, or a national curriculum. International Mathematics is sat by a smaller cohort in a particular kind of school, so the group with real experience of it is correspondingly smaller, and the group with real experience of the investigation component is smaller again.

That has a specific consequence for a parent. When you ask a Dubai agency for a 0607 tutor, the reply is frequently a maths tutor who is confident with the content and has never used a graphics display calculator in a lesson. Nothing dishonest need be happening: the content genuinely does overlap, and the tutor will teach it capably. What will not happen is any work on the two things that make the syllabus distinct, and you will not find that out until a results day.

The table below sets out the realistic sources of a 0607 tutor in this emirate, what each is likely to be strong at, and the one thing to verify in each case. It is written to be used on any provider, including this one. The single most useful question in it is the simplest: ask which calculator model they teach on, because a tutor who has taught 0607 has an immediate answer and a tutor who has not does not.

What an in-home visit costs in money and in minutes

Published Dubai rates group into bands. Budget online tutors advertise from roughly AED 45 to 150 an hour, qualified online subject tutors AED 150 to 300, in-home one-to-one visits AED 180 to 500 with travel included, IGCSE and IB specialists AED 200 to 450, and premium named tutors have been quoted as high as AED 650. Monthly packages seen in this market include AED 799 a month for eight online sessions and AED 1,599 to 1,799 a month for four two-hour in-home sessions. Those figures come from providers' own published pages and from Bestimate's 2026 Dubai cost survey, not from us.

The minutes matter as much as the dirhams and almost nobody prices them. A visiting tutor crossing from one side of Dubai to the other in the early evening is committing something like ninety minutes of road time for a sixty-minute lesson. They can therefore sell fewer slots in a week, and each slot has to carry part of the journey. That is most of the gap between the in-home and online bands, and it is why a two-hour minimum is so often attached: it halves the dead time per paid hour.

A two-hour block is not automatically good value for a Year 11 either. Concentration on written mathematics degrades, and the second hour frequently becomes supervised homework at a specialist's hourly rate. Two separate sessions in the same week, with marked work in between, does more for the same money. That preference is easier to arrange without travel, which is one of the quieter advantages of the online format rather than a sales point about it.

03

The household logistics nobody puts on a pricing page

Beyond cost there is a set of practical questions that decide whether an arrangement survives. Who is at home during the session. Whether there is a room with a door. What happens when a younger sibling comes home. Whether a visiting adult in the house suits your family, and whether anyone has to be present for it. These are not awkward questions and they are rarely discussed, with the result that many arrangements fail for reasons that have nothing to do with teaching.

Some of them favour a visit. A child who will not sit down without an adult in the room is better served by one. A household with poor connectivity, or with no space a student can occupy alone for an hour, is better served by one. So is a family that genuinely wants the tutor to be a known face rather than a video window. Those are real preferences and a provider that dismisses them is selling rather than advising.

Others favour video strongly. Sibling logistics are easier, because two children can have sessions at different times without anyone travelling twice. Travel plans are easier, because a family in Europe in July keeps the same tutor. A supervising parent can be in the kitchen rather than in the room, which a sixteen-year-old usually prefers. And the household does not need to be presentable at seven in the evening, which over a full academic year is worth more than families expect. The table sets out the factors side by side.

Seven questions to ask before the first invoice

The questions below are the ones that separate a competent arrangement from an expensive one, and they work on any provider in this market. None of them is about price. All of them are answerable in a two-minute conversation, and the pattern in the answers tells you more than any rate card: a tutor who has taught this syllabus answers specifically and quickly, while one who has not answers in general terms about experience and results.

Two of the seven matter most for 0607 in particular. The calculator question is a direct test of whether the syllabus has been taught, because the answer is either a model name or a pause. The investigation question is the other, since it is the component most often skipped entirely. A provider who says the investigation paper does not need separate preparation is describing a plan that leaves a whole examined component to chance.

The marking question is the one families most often forget. An hour of teaching with nothing marked between sessions is a different product from an hour that follows marked homework, and the two are frequently sold at the same rate. Ask whether marking is included, who does it, and against what. The honest answer involves the published mark scheme.

There is an eighth question that is really a test of the other seven: ask what would make them tell you to stop. A provider who can describe the circumstances in which they would recommend ending the arrangement, or changing the tutor, has thought about how it is judged. A provider who cannot imagine such a circumstance is selling a subscription. The table gives each of the seven with what a good answer sounds like and the warning sign to watch for, and it is as usable on this platform as on any other.

Running the trial lesson as a test, not a sales call

  • Content questions across the strands, not one topic in depth
  • One short investigation task attempted cold
  • A calculator check: viewing window, intersection, a statistical summary
  • Written notes handed over afterwards, useful to any tutor
  • A recommendation that may be to change the tier rather than to buy hours

A free trial is worth having and is easy to waste. Used well it is a diagnostic: the tutor should spend most of it finding out what your child can and cannot do, and you should receive something in writing afterwards. Used badly it becomes a friendly conversation in which the tutor establishes rapport, promises a plan and asks for a booking, and you learn nothing you could not have guessed.

Ask for three things from a 0607 trial specifically. A spread of content questions, so the strand map is real. One short investigation task, because a content-only diagnostic misses the component most at risk. And something on the calculator, so you find out whether your child can set a window and find an intersection or has been pressing buttons hopefully for two years. Forty-five minutes is enough for all three if the session is run as an assessment.

Afterwards you should hold a document: a strand-by-strand note of what was secure and what was not, an error log sorted by cause rather than by topic, and a recommended starting point. You should keep it whether or not you book anything, and it should be specific enough to be useful to a different tutor. Our trial is a free 45-minute session, no card required and nothing to cancel, and the notes are yours either way. If a provider will not put the trial's findings in writing, that is itself the finding.

06

Two children, two syllabuses, one evening

Dubai households are often large and the tutoring question is rarely about one child. A common shape is a Year 11 on 0607 and a Year 9 who needs general maths support, or two Year 10s in different schools on different syllabuses. The instinct is to put them together, and sometimes that is right. More often it produces a session that suits neither, because the two children are not at the same point in the same course.

A shared session works for content review when both children are on the same syllabus and the same tier, and when both are reasonably willing. It works for recall drills, for going through a marked paper where the errors overlap, and for calculator work. It does not work for an investigation task, which requires one reader for one student's written reasoning, and it does not work across different syllabuses, where the tutor ends up alternating and each child gets half an hour at full price.

The practical answer is usually two shorter separate sessions rather than one shared longer one, which is cheap to arrange when nobody travels and awkward when someone does. That is a genuine logistical advantage of the online format rather than an argument about teaching quality. Where a shared slot is right, we will say so, and where it is not, we will say that instead rather than take a booking that quietly fails in week three.

One further household pattern is worth naming because it is so common here. An older sibling who sat 0607 two years ago is frequently used as the family's maths support, and that can work well for content review. What an older sibling cannot usually do is mark to a published scheme, read an investigation script as a stranger would, or say honestly that the tier is wrong. Using them for homework help and buying a specialist for the examined components is often the cheapest sensible arrangement in a large Dubai household.

07

The first month, and the moment to stop

  • Week 1: a strand map and an error log from a diagnostic
  • Weeks 2-4: marked homework with method and accuracy marks separated
  • Week 4: one re-test on the first strand worked on
  • The stop signal: the same cause after two re-tests on retaught material
  • No predicted grades from a tutor, at any point

Families are good at starting tutoring and poor at ending it. An arrangement that is not working usually continues for a term because nobody has defined what working would look like, and because stopping feels like a judgement on the child. Defining the evidence at the start removes both problems, which is why this page is insistent about documents rather than about rates.

The first month should produce four things: a strand map from the diagnostic, marked homework from each session with method and accuracy marks separated, an error log grouped by cause, and one re-test showing whether the first topic worked on has stuck. That is enough to make a judgement. It is deliberately not a predicted grade, because a tutor predicting a grade is guessing and your child's school is the only party with the evidence to do it properly.

The moment to stop is when the error log shows the same named causes after two re-tests on material that has been taught twice. At that point more hours of the same will not help, and the honest options are a different approach, a different tutor or a conversation with the school about coverage. We will raise that rather than wait for you to notice, and a provider who will not define in advance what would cause them to raise it is asking you to buy something unmeasurable.

Stopping is also sometimes the right answer for a reason nobody likes to say aloud, which is that the child has had enough. A Year 11 in Dubai may be carrying nine or ten subjects, a long bus run and two or three activities, and adding a weekly session to a schedule that is already full can cost more in exhaustion than it returns in marks. Where that is what the evidence suggests, a pause with a restart date is a better recommendation than a reduced rate, and it is the one we would make.

08

Permits, premises and the claims we will not make

Private tutoring in the UAE is lawful and regulated, and a parent is entitled to ask about it. The instrument is the private tuition work permit introduced under Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023, applied for through MoHRE's smart app, website and e-services system under the service name Issuance of a New Work Permit - Private Tutor Licensing, with a stated two-working-day completion time. It is granted free of charge for two years. Eligible applicants include registered school teachers, government and private-sector employees, unemployed residents, university students and school students aged 15 to 18. Anyone tutoring without one is subject to fines and penalties under the applicable laws, and since no schedule of amounts is published, no figure should be quoted to you by anybody.

Two related points come up in Dubai conversations. A tutoring business with premises and staff in the emirate is a different legal thing from an individual tutor and requires a KHDA Educational Services Permit for a training institute, renewed annually with the request made at least thirty days before expiry. And in Abu Dhabi, ADEK's professional-ethics rules bar private and charter school staff from paid private tutoring of students enrolled at their own school, which the MoHRE permit's code of conduct also reflects. A provider offering to arrange your child's own teacher privately is offering something that should not be on sale.

Our own limits, in plain words. IB Gram is a tutor-matching platform with no KHDA, ADEK, SPEA, Ministry of Education, MoHRE, Cambridge or IB endorsement, no licence as a school or training institute in the UAE, and no premises in the country. We publish no star ratings, no student counts and no success percentages, because a figure without its sample size, date and method is not information. We make no promise about a grade. We do not perform or guarantee Ministry of Education equivalency, which is the Ministry's process and should be checked on moe.gov.ae. And we do not state the VAT treatment of tuition as a general fact, since that is a matter for the Federal Tax Authority; what we will tell you is whether a specific quote includes it.

Where we tutor

Areas we cover across Dubai

The communities below are ones where the in-home question comes up most, usually because they are villa areas where hosting a tutor is physically easy and the drive to reach them is not. The notes cover what each setting actually implies for a weekday session.

Jumeirah Golf Estates

Large villas with space for a tutor to work undisturbed and a long drive from almost every school cluster. Hosting is easy here and supply is the constraint: the number of 0607 specialists willing to make that journey for one hour is close to none.

The Springs and The Meadows

Established villa communities with mature year groups and a short run to several international schools. Families here often already have a tutor for one subject, which makes the screening questions on this page the useful part rather than the cost comparison.

Remraam and Dubai Investment Park

Affordable communities a long way from the central school cluster, with a high proportion of single-income households. Cost sensitivity is real, and the honest recommendation here is often a defined six-session block rather than an open-ended term.

Al Warqa'a and Al Khawaneej

Eastern villa areas with large families and several children at school at once. The sibling question comes up constantly, and it has a real answer, which is that a shared session works for content review and does not work for an investigation task.

Jumeirah Islands and The Lakes

Low-density communities where a visiting tutor needs parking, a route in and a guest space, all of which exist. What does not exist is a short drive, so in practice the local market quotes at the upper end of the published in-home band here.

Mudon and Arabian Ranches 3

Newer family communities with young Year 10 cohorts and a bus run that frequently arrives after 4.45pm. A 5pm in-home booking is therefore theoretical, and the realistic weekday window opens at about seven in the evening.

Dubai Silicon Oasis and Academic City

Denser housing with strong connectivity and a cluster of schools inside the same ring road. Short commutes mean an earlier slot is genuinely possible here, which is unusual in Dubai and worth using if your child concentrates better before dinner.

School ecosystem

IB and Cambridge school communities we support in Dubai

Schools in the southern and western corridor

A spread of British and international schools serving the newer communities along the Al Khail and Sheikh Mohammed Bin Zayed corridors. Maths entries here vary between schools and sometimes between year groups in the same school, which is exactly why the statement of entry matters more than the school's name.

  • Jebel Ali School

  • GEMS Metropole School Motor City
  • South View School

Schools on the eastern side of the emirate

Long-established schools serving Mirdif, Al Warqa'a, Al Khawaneej and the Creek-side communities. Year groups here are often larger, which means a wider ability range in one maths class and more students for whom the tier decision is genuinely open.

How matching works

From first enquiry to a tutor who fits

  1. 01

    Send the statement of entry

Not the subject name. We need the code, which tells us whether this is 0607 or 0580, and the tier, which tells us whether functions are on the content list. A surprising number of Dubai families find at this step that the syllabus they described is not the one their child is entered for.

  2. 02

Use the screening questions on us

The seven questions on this page are printed to be used, including on this platform. Ask which calculator model, ask about the investigation component, ask what is marked and against what, and ask what happens if the match fails. If an answer is vague, that is information you can act on before paying anything.

  3. 03

Run the free trial as a diagnostic

A 45-minute session at no charge, no card required, containing content questions, one short investigation task and a calculator check. You receive the strand map, the error log and a recommended starting point in writing afterwards, and you keep them whether or not you continue with us.

  4. 04

Choose a block or a single session

Not every family needs a term. A single session to read a mock script, or a six-session block with a stated target and a closing review, are both normal purchases here. Nobody has to buy a package to get a specialist, and a block renews deliberately rather than rolling on by default.

  5. 05

Review at four weeks against the documents

The strand map, the marked work, the error log and one re-test are enough to judge an arrangement. If the same causes survive two re-tests on retaught material, we will say so and recommend a change rather than more hours. No part of this involves predicting a grade.

Why families choose us

What UAE parents tell us matters most

Matched on the code, with the calculator as a condition

A 0607 request goes to someone who teaches 0607, and graphics calculator fluency plus investigation experience are part of the match rather than a bonus. The alternative, common in this market, is a capable 0580 tutor who teaches the overlap and silently leaves two examined components alone.

Screening questions published rather than avoided

The seven questions on this page work on any provider in Dubai, including this one. A platform confident in its matching has no reason to hide the test, and a parent armed with it will not spend a term discovering that marking was never included in the rate.

The trial produces a document you keep

Forty-five minutes, free, no card, and you leave with a strand map, an error log sorted by cause and a recommended starting point, specific enough to hand to a different tutor. Where the right recommendation is a tier review rather than tuition, that is what it will say.

Finite options as well as open-ended ones

A single session and a six-session block with a defined endpoint are both available, because not every family needs a term and pretending otherwise is how tutoring becomes a subscription nobody reviews. Blocks are renewed deliberately, with a written closing review each time.

Limits written down, including the awkward ones

No home visits in the UAE, no premises here, no regulator endorsement, no ratings, no statistics without a method, no grade promises, and no claim about VAT treatment or equivalency, both of which belong to the relevant authority. Market rates quoted on this page are attributed to whoever published them.

Questions parents ask

IB and IGCSE tutoring in Dubai: your questions answered

Do 0607 tutors in Dubai come to the villa?+

Some do. In-home one-to-one tutoring is widely sold in this emirate and published rates run roughly AED 180 to 500 an hour once travel is included, often with a two-hour minimum, with monthly in-home packages advertised around AED 1,599 to 1,799 for four two-hour sessions. IB Gram does not sell that in the UAE; in-home tuition is something we run only in India. The harder constraint for International Mathematics is not the money but the shortlist: filtering a small pool of 0607 specialists by who will drive to your community usually leaves nobody who teaches the syllabus.

What is a fair quote for a 0607 tutor in Dubai?+

Judge a quote by what it includes rather than by the number. Published bands put budget online tutors at roughly AED 45 to 150 an hour, qualified online subject tutors at AED 150 to 300, in-home visits at AED 180 to 500, specialists at AED 200 to 450 and premium named tutors as high as AED 650, from providers' own pages and Bestimate's 2026 Dubai survey. Then ask whether marking is included, whether the rate is per hour or per session, whether VAT is stated, and whether the person has ever taught the investigation component. Two quotes at the same number can be very different products.

Can a Year 11 and a Year 9 share the same 0607 slot?+

Sometimes, and it should be assessed rather than assumed. A shared session works when both children are on the same syllabus and the same tier and both are reasonably willing: content review, recall drills, calculator work and going through a marked paper with overlapping errors all survive sharing. It does not work for an investigation task, which needs one reader for one student's written reasoning, and it does not work across different syllabuses, where each child effectively gets half a session at the full rate. Two shorter separate slots are usually better, and cost nothing extra in travel.

How do I check a tutor actually knows 0607 before paying?+

Ask two questions and listen to how quickly they are answered. Which calculator model do you teach on, and have you taught the investigation component. Someone who has taught this syllabus answers both immediately and specifically. Someone who has not talks about experience, results and general IGCSE maths. Then ask for a trial that includes one short investigation task, because that is the part a content-only trial will not reveal. None of this requires you to know the mathematics yourself.

What should actually happen in a trial lesson?+

It should be an assessment, not a conversation. For 0607 that means a spread of content questions so the strand map is real, one short investigation task attempted cold, and a calculator check covering a viewing window, an intersection and a statistical summary. Afterwards you should hold a written note of what was secure, an error log sorted by cause rather than topic, and a recommended starting point, specific enough to be useful to a different tutor. Ours is 45 minutes, free, with no card required, and the notes are yours whether or not you continue.

Is a tuition centre class a better value option than one-to-one?+

Per student it is cheaper, and for content taught from the front it can be perfectly sound. Two things limit it for this syllabus. The investigation component needs one reader for one student's written reasoning, which a group format cannot really provide. And in Dubai the practical obstacle is assembling the group at all: 0607 candidates in any one area are fewer than 0580 candidates and are spread across schools at different points in the course, so a group of four at the same stage is hard to find rather than merely rare.

My son does not want a tutor at all. Does online make that easier?+

Usually, slightly, for a reason that has nothing to do with teaching. A sixteen-year-old who resents the idea often objects most to a stranger arriving in the house and to the family watching the lesson happen. A video session in his own room, with a parent nearby rather than present, removes a good deal of that friction. What it does not remove is the underlying objection, and the thing that generally shifts that is a first session in which somebody competent explains why four specific marks were lost, rather than a session about effort and attitude.

Does a parent need to be in the room during an online session?+

No, and for most sixteen-year-olds it is better not to be. Being nearby, with the door open and the session visible if you glance in, is the arrangement most families settle on. What is worth doing instead is reading what arrives afterwards: the marked work, the error log and the fortnightly note tell you more about the session than sitting through it would. For younger children the answer changes, and if your child genuinely needs an adult alongside them to work, we would say that this format is not the right one.

Should we book a whole term in advance to secure a slot?+

Book the slot, not the term. Holding a fixed weekly time for a term is genuinely useful, because a schedule renegotiated every week is how fourteen planned sessions become nine. Paying for a term in advance is a different thing and it removes your ability to act on what the evidence shows at week four. A six-session block with a stated target and a written closing review gives you the continuity without the commitment, and it should renew deliberately rather than roll on by itself.

What happens if my daughter and the tutor do not get on?+

It is a common outcome rather than a failure, and it should be cheap to fix. Ask any provider before you pay what their replacement process is and whether it costs anything, because the answer varies enormously in this market and some arrangements are effectively locked for a term. Our position is that a match that is not working gets changed, and that the strand map and error log transfer to the new tutor so the work does not restart from zero. A bad match found in week two costs far less than one tolerated until April.

Is marking between sessions included in the rate?+

Ask, because it frequently is not, and it is most of the value. An hour of teaching with nothing marked in between is a conversation; an hour that follows marked homework and precedes a written note is a course. When you ask, the useful follow-up is what the marking is against: the honest answer is the published mark scheme, with method marks and accuracy marks shown separately, so you can see which marks were lost to understanding and which to carelessness. A number with no script attached tells you nothing you can act on.

Is it worth paying more for someone who has taught the investigation paper?+

Yes, more than for almost any other single qualification in this syllabus. The investigation component is examined, is a meaningful share of the marks, and is the part a crowded Year 11 scheme of work most often leaves until April. It is also the part a tutor cannot fake, because teaching it means setting unfamiliar tasks and reading written reasoning rather than working through examples. If a provider tells you it needs no separate preparation, they are describing a plan that leaves a whole component to chance.

Can we pause tutoring over the Dubai summer?+

Yes, and most families should at least partly. Dubai empties in July and August and a slot left vacant for eight weeks is hard to recover, so the sensible options are an agreed pause with a restart date in the diary, or a short holiday block of three or four sessions aimed at one specific thing. For a student entering Year 11 the second is often worth it: the non-calculator paper and the calculator skills both respond well to summer work, and neither needs the school to have taught anything first.

How much notice is needed to move or cancel a session?+

Ask for the rule in writing before you pay, because this is the single commonest source of disputes in private tutoring anywhere. A reasonable arrangement has a stated notice period, treats a genuine illness differently from a forgotten appointment, and does not charge for a session the tutor cancels. What to be wary of is a term paid in advance with no stated policy at all, since that combination gives you no remedy and gives the tutor no reason to protect the slot.

Does VAT apply to the quote, and who can tell us the rules?+

The authority on UAE VAT is the Federal Tax Authority, and the treatment of tuition fees depends on the provider and the circumstances rather than on a general rule a tutoring page can state. What any provider should tell you plainly is whether the figure they have quoted you includes VAT or not, and whether they hold a tax registration number. Ask for that in writing on the quote itself. A rate quoted without saying whether it is inclusive, and without saying whether it is per hour or per session, is not yet a quote.

Buy the trial, not the term

The cheapest useful step is a diagnostic, and the second cheapest is asking seven questions. Send the statement of entry so the code and the tier are facts rather than assumptions, then book the free 45-minute trial and ask for an investigation task and a calculator check inside it. You will come out holding a strand map, an error log sorted by cause and a recommended starting point, which is yours whether or not you book anything, and which is specific enough to use with any tutor in Dubai. If a six-session block with a stated endpoint is the right purchase, that is what we will suggest; if the right answer is a conversation with the school about the tier, we will say that instead.
