Cambridge IGCSE International Maths 0607 Tutor in Dubai

A Cambridge IGCSE International Maths 0607 tutor in Dubai is a different hire from an ordinary maths tutor, and the reason is on the syllabus: 0607 assumes a graphics display calculator throughout and assesses an investigation and modelling component that no other Cambridge maths course contains. This page covers the Core and Extended decision, what the graphics calculator is actually for, how the investigation papers are marked, and how 0607 feeds the IB Diploma routes most Dubai international schools run.

IB & IGCSE in Dubai

Why 0607 behaves differently from every other IGCSE maths course

Cambridge IGCSE International Mathematics 0607 was written for international schools, and the design intention shows in three places. It assumes a graphics display calculator as standard equipment rather than as an aid. It includes an investigation component in which the student is given an unfamiliar situation and asked to explore it. And its content and vocabulary line up deliberately with what the IB Diploma maths courses expect, which is why Dubai schools running an IB continuum so often enter it instead of Mathematics 0580.

For a parent this matters most at the point of hiring help. A tutor who teaches 0580 well is teaching a syllabus where the calculator is a convenience and every question has a known method. In 0607 the calculator is part of the mathematics: a student is expected to sketch a function on it, find an intersection, read a numerical solution, and then write the answer with appropriate accuracy. A tutor unfamiliar with that workflow will teach around it, and the marks for it will still be on the paper.

Candidates sit three components in whichever tier they are entered for, and the tiers are not interchangeable. Core candidates work through a reduced content list and are reported on a narrower grade scale; Extended candidates cover the full syllabus, including functions, and can reach the top grades. Both tiers sit a non-calculator paper, a calculator paper and an investigation-based paper, so the structure is consistent while the demand is not.

The investigation paper is where Dubai students are most exposed, because it is the hardest thing to teach from a textbook. It rewards a student who notices a pattern, states it generally, tests it and explains why it holds. Those are habits rather than facts, and they are built by doing a dozen investigations with feedback, which is almost never what a crowded Year 11 scheme of work has room for. It is the most useful thing a 0607 tutor can spend time on.

One more thing is worth knowing before any of that: 0607 is not a harder 0580 and it is not an easier one. It is a different qualification with a different purpose, sat by a smaller international cohort, and a sixth form reading the grade knows that. Families who arrive assuming a straight ranking between the two syllabuses tend to make the tier decision on the wrong grounds, and the tier decision is the one with consequences that last into Year 13.

Everything here is delivered one-to-one over live video on Gulf Standard Time. IB Gram does not offer home visits in Dubai; in-home tuition is a service we run only in India. For this particular syllabus the online format has a specific advantage, since a graphics calculator screen can be shared directly or mirrored, and the tutor can watch the keystrokes rather than the student's hand. Working through a calculator procedure is one of the few teaching tasks that is genuinely easier remotely than across a kitchen table.

At a glance

  • Three components per tier: non-calculator, calculator, and an investigation paper
  • Core and Extended have different content lists and different grade ceilings
  • A graphics display calculator is assumed throughout, not merely permitted
  • Content and vocabulary are aligned to the IB Diploma maths courses
  • Investigation and modelling is the component least often taught in class
IB programmes

Every IB programme stage, mapped to UAE school years

0607 sits in the middle of a route that usually begins in the Middle Years Programme and ends in one of the two IB Diploma maths courses. Understanding that route is what makes the Core and Extended decision answerable, because the right tier depends on where the student is going rather than on how Year 10 felt.

MYPAges 11-16 · Years 7-11

IB Middle Years Programme Mathematics

Criterion-assessed rather than examined, with four criteria covering knowledge, pattern investigation, communication and applying mathematics in real-life contexts. Students are graded 1 to 8 against descriptors, and investigation tasks are a standing part of the course. The pattern-investigating criterion is close relative of the 0607 investigation paper, which is not a coincidence.

Several Dubai schools run MYP to Year 11 and then enter IGCSE alongside it, or run MYP mathematics with a 0607 entry bolted on. Students arriving from a pure MYP background are usually comfortable with investigation and uncomfortable with timed written papers, which is the exact inverse of a student arriving from a British-curriculum school. The tutoring plan follows from which of those two your child is.

0607 CoreAges 14-16 · Years 10-11

Cambridge IGCSE International Mathematics, Core tier

A reduced content list, three components, and a grade ceiling below the top of the scale. It suits a student who needs a secure pass and a solid grounding rather than a route into higher-level mathematics. The graphics calculator requirement still applies, and so does the investigation component, so neither can be skipped on the grounds of tier.

Core entries in Dubai are commonest where a student joined an international school late and is covering two years of content in one, or where mathematics is not part of the intended sixth-form plan. The decision is reversible for longer than families assume, and the time to review it is after the autumn assessment rather than after the January mock.

0607 ExtendedAges 14-16 · Years 10-11

Cambridge IGCSE International Mathematics, Extended tier

The full content list, including functions and their transformations, with access to the top grades. The calculator paper is substantially more demanding than its Core counterpart, and the investigation component becomes investigation and modelling, adding the task of building a model for a situation and commenting on its limitations.

This is the default in Dubai's IB-continuum schools for anyone intending to take either Diploma maths course. A student entered for Core and then aiming at Analysis and Approaches at Higher Level will have a gap to close in Year 12, which is why the tier decision is worth taking seriously in Year 10 rather than treating it as an administrative detail.

IB Diploma Mathematics: Applications and Interpretation

The modelling-and-technology route through Diploma maths, available at Standard and Higher Level, with heavy and explicit use of a graphics display calculator and an internal exploration written by the student. Statistics, modelling and interpretation carry more weight here than algebraic proof, and the calculator is expected to be used fluently in the examinations themselves.

The overlap with 0607 Extended is the closest of any pair on this page. A Dubai student who has sat 0607 Extended arrives in Applications and Interpretation already able to use the calculator as a mathematical instrument and already used to being asked to model something and comment on it. That is a real advantage in the first term, and it is the clearest practical argument for the Extended tier.

Subject coverage

IB and IGCSE subjects we tutor

The grid below is the 0607 content list rather than a subject menu, since this page covers one syllabus. Each entry names what the strand assesses and where Dubai candidates reliably lose marks on it, so a first session can start somewhere useful instead of at page one of the textbook.

Number

Core and Extended

Standard form, upper and lower bounds, ratio and proportion, percentage change and compound growth, and accuracy. The accuracy requirement is the quiet killer: answers given to the wrong degree of precision lose marks on questions that were solved correctly, and the convention has to be learned rather than guessed.

Algebra and graphs

Core and Extended

Manipulation, equations, inequalities, sequences, and the graphs of linear, quadratic, exponential and reciprocal functions. In 0607 the graph work is done on the calculator as well as on paper, and marks are lost by sketching from the screen without labelling intercepts, asymptotes or turning points.

Functions

Extended only

Function notation, domain and range, composite and inverse functions, and transformations of a given graph. This strand is the clearest single difference between the tiers and the one that most prepares a student for Diploma maths. Transformations are examined by asking for the effect of a change rather than for a memorised rule.

Coordinate geometry

Core and Extended

Gradients, midpoints, lengths, parallel and perpendicular lines and the equation of a straight line in several forms. Students lose marks by giving a gradient as a decimal when an exact fraction is wanted, and by answering with a value where the question asked for the equation of the line.

Geometry

Core and Extended

Angle properties, polygons, circle theorems, congruence and similarity, and constructions. The reliable loss here is reasoning: Cambridge awards marks for naming the property used, and an answer with the correct angle and no stated reason leaves marks on the paper in nearly every circle-theorem question.

Mensuration

Core and Extended

Perimeter, area, surface area and volume of standard and compound solids, arcs and sectors. Marks are lost on units more than on method, especially where a volume is asked for in litres or a surface area in square metres after the working has been done in centimetres.

Trigonometry

Core and Extended

Right-angled trigonometry, the sine and cosine rules, area of a triangle, bearings and three-dimensional problems. The non-calculator paper means exact values for the standard angles have to be known, and the calculator paper means a student must notice when the required angle is obtuse rather than accepting the first value the device returns.

Vectors and transformations

Core and Extended

Column vectors, magnitude, addition and scalar multiples, and the four transformations with their full descriptions. Describing a transformation is where marks go: a rotation needs the angle, direction and centre, and giving two of the three scores partially at best.

Probability

Core and Extended

Single and combined events, tree and Venn diagrams, relative frequency and conditional situations. The commonest error is treating events as independent when the question describes selection without replacement, which changes every subsequent denominator and loses the whole chain of marks.

Statistics

Core and Extended

Data display, averages from grouped data, cumulative frequency, box plots, scatter diagrams and lines of best fit. This strand is where the graphics calculator earns its place: statistical summaries and regression can be produced from the device, and the marks then depend on interpreting the output rather than computing it.

Sets

Core and Extended

Set notation, Venn diagrams with two and three sets, unions, intersections and complements. Notation is the whole of the difficulty, and it is a half-hour fix: students who can shade a diagram correctly often cannot write the same region in symbols, which is what the question asks for.

How sessions run

Tutoring formats built around UAE school timetables

Three ways 0607 support is usually bought in Dubai, all one-to-one over live video on Gulf Standard Time. The first two are short and finite; only the third is an open-ended arrangement, and plenty of families need one of the first two instead.

Transition block into 0607

Four to six weeks for a student who has moved into a 0607 class from another curriculum, usually from a British-curriculum school or a national system. The content gap is often small; the gaps in calculator fluency, investigation technique and Cambridge command vocabulary are large, and they are what the block addresses.

  • Diagnostic across the 0607 strands plus one investigation task
  • Calculator workflow taught explicitly in the first two sessions
  • Command-term glossary built from the student's own marked work
  • Ends with a written list of strands still to cover

Graphics calculator sprint

Two or three sessions on the device alone: graphing, intersections, tables, solving numerically, statistical summaries, regression, and the accuracy conventions for writing down what the screen shows. Short, cheap and unusually high-yield, because the marks it protects are spread across both calculator-permitted components.

  • Taught on the exact model your child will take into the exam
  • Keystroke sequences written down, not just demonstrated
  • Accuracy and rounding conventions drilled against past questions
  • A one-page reference sheet the student keeps

Weekly one-to-one with investigation coaching

The year-long arrangement, deliberately structured so that one session in three works on an investigation or modelling task rather than on content. That ratio is the main thing this format does differently from ordinary maths tutoring, and it exists because the investigation component is the one nobody practises.

  • One fixed 60 or 90-minute slot a week through the year
  • Every third session built around an investigation task
  • Written feedback against the published assessment emphases
  • Fortnightly note with the marked work attached

What IB and IGCSE study actually looks like in Dubai

01

What the three components ask for, tier by tier

A 0607 candidate sits three components, and the set depends on the tier. Core candidates take a non-calculator paper, a calculator paper and an investigation paper. Extended candidates take the harder versions of all three, with the final component becoming investigation and modelling. The practical point is that there is no component in which the calculator is irrelevant and no component in which it is sufficient, so a student needs both the arithmetic and the device.

The non-calculator component is short and catches out students who have never been made to work without one. Exact values, fraction arithmetic, standard-form manipulation and mental estimation are all assessed there, and Dubai students coming from an international background are frequently fluent on the device and rusty by hand. Fixing that is drill rather than teaching, and it is best started a year out rather than in the final term.

The investigation component is different in kind. The student is handed an unfamiliar situation, asked to generate cases, look for a pattern, state it in general terms and test it, and in the Extended version to build a model and comment on its limitations. It rewards method and communication rather than recall.

Because all three components are sat in the same series, there is no banked element and no coursework to soften a difficult paper, and a weak component cannot be avoided by preparation elsewhere. That changes how a year should be planned: the sensible pattern is to keep all three in view from the start rather than teaching content for two terms and discovering the investigation paper in April. The table below sets out each component with what it rewards and where the marks go, and the caption says what you should verify for yourself.

The graphics display calculator is part of the mathematics

  • Set a viewing window deliberately rather than accepting the default
  • Find intersections and turning points rather than estimating from the picture
  • Keep full precision in intermediate steps, round only the final answer
  • Learn the statistics menus: they are examined in the statistics strand
  • Use the exact model that will be taken into the exam room

In most IGCSE maths syllabuses the calculator removes arithmetic. In 0607 it does something else: it is a mathematical instrument the candidate is expected to reason with. A question may give an equation with no algebraic route to a solution and expect the student to graph both sides, find the intersection and write the root to three significant figures. Another may hand over a data set and expect a regression line from the device, with the marks sitting in the interpretation.

Most Dubai students own the right device and use perhaps a fifth of it. The skills that matter are a short list: setting a sensible viewing window, graphing a function and reading intercepts and turning points, finding intersections, building a table of values, solving numerically, and producing one-variable and two-variable statistics. Each is a keystroke sequence. Written down and practised for twenty minutes, each becomes permanent, which is why a two-session calculator sprint is such an efficient purchase.

There is one habit worth drilling above all others. The device gives a long decimal and the paper wants a stated accuracy, and the mark for the question depends on the second. Students lose a steady trickle of marks across both calculator components by copying the screen verbatim or rounding too early in a multi-step calculation. Working to full precision and rounding only at the end is the rule, and the only way it sticks is by losing the mark on a marked script and seeing why.

03

How to practise an investigation when there is no formula to learn

Parents often ask how a student revises for the investigation paper, and the honest answer is that revision is the wrong word. The component tests a process, so it is practised the way a sport is practised: repeatedly, with feedback, on different situations. A student who has worked through ten investigation tasks with someone pointing out where the reasoning jumped is in a completely different position from one who has read about the paper.

The process itself is teachable and has a reliable shape. Generate small cases systematically rather than randomly. Record them in a table. Look for a relationship and state it in words before stating it in symbols. Test the statement on a case not yet used. Then, for the Extended version, build the model, use it to answer the question asked, and say where it would stop being reasonable. Students who write the general statement first and the cases afterwards lose marks even when the statement is right.

What a tutor adds here is the thing a textbook cannot: a reader. The component assesses communication as well as mathematics, and a student cannot tell whether their own explanation is clear. Having an unfamiliar question attempted cold, then read back line by line with the gaps named, is the single most useful session type on this syllabus, and it is the one that most Dubai Year 11 schemes of work have no room for.

There is a secondary benefit that matters for anyone heading into the Diploma. The internal exploration in both IB maths courses asks for the same habits at greater length: choose something, investigate it properly, write it so a reader can follow, and be honest about the limits. A student who has spent a year being made to explain their reasoning on 0607 investigations starts that piece of work from a much better place than one who has only ever answered structured questions.

04

Core or Extended: the decision and its consequences

The tier decision is made by the school, usually in Year 10 or early Year 11, and it is usually presented to families as a judgement about current attainment. It is also a decision about the next two years, because the grade ceiling in Core is below the top of the scale and because Extended carries the functions content that Diploma maths assumes. Those two facts are what a family should be weighing, and neither of them is about how hard the current term feels.

There are good reasons to accept a Core entry. A student who joined an international school recently and is covering content at speed may be better served by securing a solid Core grade than by a thin Extended one. A student with no intention of taking mathematics beyond sixteen loses little. And a Core candidate still sits a calculator paper and an investigation paper, so the transferable skills are not lost, only the depth.

The reasons to resist a Core entry are narrower but sharper. If the intended route is Analysis and Approaches at Higher Level, or A Level Mathematics, the functions and algebra in Extended are the foundation, and the gap has to be closed in Year 12 instead, during a course that is already demanding.

One practical note on how to raise it. Schools make tier decisions from their own assessment evidence, and they are generally willing to review one when a parent brings evidence rather than an opinion. A marked paper from outside the school, sorted by cause, is evidence; a conviction that a child is capable of more is not. That is a reason to get a diagnostic done in the autumn term rather than in February, by which point the internal deadline is close and the content gap is real. The table below sets out what each tier means in practice so the conversation can be a specific one.

0607, 0580 and the IB Diploma routes

A Dubai family with children in two different schools can easily end up with one child on 0580 and the other on 0607, and conclude that the second is simply a harder version of the first. It is not. The content overlaps substantially, but 0607 adds the investigation component and the graphics calculator and arranges the material with the Diploma in mind, while 0580 is a broader general qualification taken by far more candidates worldwide.

The practical consequence shows up in Year 12. A student from 0607 Extended walking into Applications and Interpretation finds the calculator already familiar and the modelling vocabulary already met. A student from 0580 Extended walking into Analysis and Approaches finds the algebra familiar and the technology unfamiliar. Neither is better placed overall; they are differently placed, and knowing which gap exists is worth more than a general sense that the Diploma will be hard.

Dubai's IB sector is large and growing, which is why this matters locally. The emirate's 2026-27 intake adds seven new private schools, three of them International Baccalaureate, creating 16,846 new places, and IB programmes accounted for 7% of Dubai's private-school enrolment in 2024-25 against 37% for the UK curriculum. A family choosing between two schools is often also choosing, without being told, between two maths routes.

It also matters when a family moves house or school inside the emirate, which happens here more than in most markets. A student transferring from a British-curriculum school into an IB-continuum one in Year 10 can find their maths entry changed from 0580 to 0607 with a term gone, and the gap they carry is the investigation component and the calculator rather than the content. Identifying that early turns a frightening transfer into a short piece of work. The table maps the common transitions and what each one leaves to close.

What 0607 support costs in Dubai, and what to compare

Published rates in this market fall into bands rather than onto a single figure, and most providers publish nothing at all. Budget online tutors advertise from roughly AED 45 to 150 an hour. Qualified online subject tutors sit around AED 150 to 300. In-home visits run about AED 180 to 500 once travel is priced in, specialists AED 200 to 450, and premium named tutors have been quoted as high as AED 650. Those come from providers' own pages and from Bestimate's 2026 Dubai cost survey; they are the market and not an IB Gram price list.

For 0607 specifically there is a scarcity effect worth naming. Fewer tutors teach this syllabus than teach 0580, and fewer again are fluent with the graphics calculator and the investigation component, so a parent filtering by both syllabus and location in Dubai is working from a very short list. That is the mechanism behind a quote that looks high: it is scarcity rather than quality, and it is reduced by removing the location filter rather than by negotiating.

The more useful comparison is not rate against rate but what each hour includes. An hour of teaching with nothing marked between sessions is a different product from an hour that follows marked homework and precedes a written note. For this syllabus add a third question: does the tutor set and read investigation tasks? A 0607 arrangement that never touches the investigation paper is leaving a whole component untouched, whatever it costs.

07

Where 0607 candidates in Dubai actually lose marks

  • Accuracy and rounding conventions, especially after calculator work
  • Missing reasons in geometry and incomplete transformation descriptions
  • Investigations with a stated rule but no tested cases
  • Non-calculator arithmetic and exact values, through lack of practice
  • Unit conversions in mensuration, usually in the final step

Marked 0607 scripts cluster in a few places, and they are not the places families expect. Accuracy is first. The syllabus has conventions about how answers should be given, the calculator produces long decimals, and a steady stream of marks disappears into answers rounded too early or stated to the wrong precision. This is not a mathematics problem and it is fixed by habit, which makes it the cheapest available improvement.

Reasoning marks are second. Geometry and circle-theorem questions award marks for naming the property used, and transformation questions award them for a complete description. Students who produce the right number and no justification lose a third of the available marks across those strands without ever getting an answer wrong. A marked script makes this visible in a way no amount of explanation does.

Third is the investigation paper, where the loss is structural rather than careless: a general rule stated without the supporting cases, or a model produced with no comment on where it breaks. Fourth is the non-calculator paper, where students raised on the device are simply out of practice by hand. All four are diagnosable from one marked paper, and all four respond to different work, which is why the first session should be a diagnostic rather than a lesson.

What is usually not the cause, despite being the thing families worry about, is the mathematics itself. A student sitting in a 0607 Extended class has generally been judged capable of the content by people who see their work every week. Treating the problem as a lack of ability leads to more hours of re-teaching material that was understood the first time, which is both expensive and demoralising. Sorting the errors by cause first is what prevents that, and it takes one paper and about twenty minutes.

08

Regulators, equivalency and the limits of what we claim

Dubai's private schools are overseen by the Knowledge and Human Development Authority, which u.ae describes as responsible for enhancing and overseeing the quality of private education in the emirate. Abu Dhabi and Al Ain fall to ADEK, Sharjah to the Sharjah Private Education Authority, Ras Al Khaimah to its Department of Knowledge, and Ajman, Umm Al Quwain and Fujairah to the federal Ministry of Education. Those five bodies are the whole regulator map, and a school's inspection report is published by its own regulator rather than by a tutoring company.

Equivalency is a separate process and a common source of confusion. For the British track, the Ministry of Education requires five accredited subjects in GCSE or IGCSE certificates at no less than grade E or grade 3, with Arabic and Islamic education not counted among the five, plus one accredited subject at Advanced Level at grade E or two at Advanced Subsidiary Level at the same grade. A 0607 grade is one of the subjects that can count. No IB points threshold is published in that source, so we publish none, and families should verify their own case on moe.gov.ae or with the emirate's attestation authority. IB Gram does not perform equivalency and does not act in the process.

Our own position, stated plainly: IB Gram is a tutor-matching platform. We hold no KHDA, ADEK, SPEA, Ministry of Education, MoHRE, Cambridge or IB endorsement of any kind, we are not a licensed school or training institute in the UAE, and we have no premises in the country. Private tutors here need a MoHRE private tuition work permit under Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023, granted free of charge for two years, and you are entitled to ask any tutor to show theirs. Lessons are one-to-one over live video; IB Gram does not offer home visits in Dubai, because in-home tuition is a service we run only in India.

Where we tutor

Areas we cover across Dubai

The Dubai communities below are the ones whose children are most likely to be sitting 0607 rather than 0580, because of the schools that serve them. The notes are about that pattern and about what a realistic weekday session looks like once the school run is accounted for.

Emirates Hills, The Meadows and The Lakes

Villa communities served by several large international schools with IB continuums, which is why 0607 rather than 0580 is the common maths entry here. Students usually get home early enough for a 5.30pm session, and the main scheduling competition is sport rather than traffic.

Palm Jumeirah

A short school run in most directions but a single access route, so an afternoon incident makes arrival times unpredictable. Families here tend to prefer a fixed evening slot precisely because it does not depend on anyone being on the road at a particular time.

Jumeirah Lake Towers

Tower living with a young and internationally mobile population, and a high proportion of students who joined a Dubai school partway through Year 10. Transition work from another curriculum into 0607 is the standard request, and it is a different job from exam revision.

Dubai Festival City and Al Badia

A compact community with an international school on its doorstep, so the commute is rarely the constraint. The practical issue is that siblings often share a study space, which argues for the 7pm slot when the younger children are finished for the evening.

Town Square and Damac Hills

Outer communities with long bus runs and arrival times frequently after 4.45pm. A weekday session before six is unrealistic here, and the eight-week run into the exams is usually easier to handle with a weekend morning slot added rather than a second weekday one.

Tilal Al Ghaf and Dubai Hills Estate

Newer communities with young year groups and a mix of British and international schools, so households here sometimes have one child on 0580 and another on 0607. Keeping the two separate matters: the same tutor is not automatically right for both syllabuses.

Al Quoz and Dubai Design District

Mixed residential and commercial areas close to the central school cluster, with a number of families on single-income creative or teaching salaries. Cost sensitivity is higher here, which makes the group-versus-individual comparison on this page more than theoretical.

School ecosystem

IB and Cambridge school communities we support in Dubai

IB-continuum international schools

This is where 0607 most often appears, because the syllabus was written for exactly this setting and leads naturally into the Diploma maths courses. Students here are usually comfortable with investigation tasks and less practised at timed written papers than their British-curriculum neighbours.

Schools are named only to describe the Dubai market. IB Gram has no affiliation with any of them, and whether a school enters 0580 or 0607 can change between year groups, so the statement of entry is the only reliable source for your child.

How matching works

From first enquiry to a tutor who fits

  1. 01

Confirm the code and the tier

Send the statement of entry or the school's option sheet. We need the syllabus code, because 0607 and 0580 are different courses, and the tier, because Core and Extended have different content lists. Guessing either of those wastes the first two sessions on material your child is not being examined on.

  2. 02

Free diagnostic trial, including one investigation task

A 45-minute session at no charge and with no card required. It covers a spread of content questions and one short investigation, because the investigation component is the part a content-only diagnostic would miss entirely. You keep the resulting strand map and error log whether or not you continue.

  3. 03

Decide whether the calculator comes first

If the diagnostic shows the graphics calculator is underused, the plan will open with two sessions on the device rather than on content. It feels like a detour and it is not: the keystroke skills protect marks across both calculator-permitted components, and they take hours rather than weeks to install.

  4. 04

Weekly sessions with one in three on investigation

Lessons run one-to-one over live video on Gulf Standard Time, with a fixed weekly slot held for the term. Every third session works on an investigation or modelling task instead of content, which is the ratio that stops the component being met for the first time in the exam hall.

  5. 05

Fortnightly evidence and an honest six-week review

You receive the marked work and a short written note on what moved. At six weeks there is enough to judge the arrangement; if the same errors are still there, the answer is a different approach or a different tutor rather than more hours. No grade is predicted, because predictions belong to the school.

Why families choose us

What UAE parents tell us matters most

Matched on the syllabus code, not the subject

A request for 0607 is matched to someone who teaches 0607, with the graphics calculator and the investigation paper included. A 0580 specialist adapting to this syllabus will teach the overlapping content well and quietly skip the two things that make the course distinct.

The investigation component is actually taught

One session in three works on an unfamiliar situation, with the student's written explanation read back and the gaps named. It is the component schools have least room for and the one where a tutor can add the most, because it needs a reader rather than a textbook.

Calculator fluency treated as a teachable skill

Viewing windows, intersections, numerical solving, tables and statistics menus are taught as written keystroke sequences on the model your child will take into the exam, with the accuracy conventions drilled alongside. Most students own the device and use a fraction of it.

The tier decision explained before it is made

Core and Extended differ in grade ceiling, in the functions content and in what they leave to close in Year 12. We will set out what each means for the intended Diploma route and say plainly when a review is worth raising with the school, which is a conversation the school is better placed to decide than we are.

Claims kept inside what we can show

No regulator endorsement, no premises in the UAE, no grade promises, no ratings and no statistics without a source. Market rates on this page are attributed to whoever published them, exam dates are to be confirmed against Cambridge, and equivalency questions go to the Ministry of Education rather than to us.

Questions parents ask

IB and IGCSE tutoring in Dubai: your questions answered

Does my child need a graphics display calculator for 0607?+

Yes. The syllabus is written on the assumption that a graphics display calculator is available, and questions on the calculator-permitted components can require graphing a function, finding an intersection, solving numerically or producing a statistical summary from the device. This is the main structural difference between 0607 and most other IGCSE maths syllabuses, where a scientific calculator is sufficient. The model should be one your child's school confirms is permitted, and it should be the same device used in every lesson and every piece of homework for a year.

Which graphics calculator models are allowed in a Cambridge exam?+

Cambridge publishes the rules on permitted calculators and the school's exams officer applies them, so those two sources are the ones to use rather than a recommendation from a tutoring site. In practice Dubai schools tend to standardise on one or two models from the common families and tell parents which to buy, partly so that classroom teaching matches the device in the student's hand. Devices with symbolic algebra capability are treated differently from ordinary graphing models, which is exactly why the school's own guidance is the answer here.

What is the 0607 investigation paper actually asking for?+

It hands the student an unfamiliar situation and asks them to explore it: generate small cases systematically, record them, notice a relationship, state it in general terms, and test it on a case not already used. The Extended version adds building a model, using it to answer the question posed, and commenting on where it would stop being reasonable. Marks sit in the process and the communication as much as in the final result, which is why a general rule stated with no supporting cases scores poorly even when it is correct.

Should my child take 0607 Core or Extended?+

Decide it from where they are going rather than from how this term feels. Core caps the available grades and omits the functions content; Extended covers the full list and is what both IB Diploma maths courses assume, particularly Analysis and Approaches at Higher Level. A recently arrived student covering two years in one may be better served by a secure Core grade. A student intending to take mathematics past sixteen will otherwise be closing the functions gap during Year 12. The school decides, and the time to raise it is after the autumn assessment.

Does 0607 prepare a student better for IB maths than 0580?+

For Applications and Interpretation, clearly yes: the calculator fluency and the modelling vocabulary transfer directly. For Analysis and Approaches the picture is mixed, because 0607 Extended brings functions, transformations and graph reasoning while 0580 Extended brings slightly heavier routine algebra. Neither student is better placed overall and both have a gap. The useful thing is knowing which gap you have, because a 0607 student usually needs algebraic drill and a 0580 student usually needs technology and investigation practice.

Does a 0607 grade count towards UAE Ministry of Education equivalency?+

For the British track the Ministry requires five accredited subjects in GCSE or IGCSE certificates at no less than grade E or grade 3, with Arabic and Islamic education excluded from that count, plus one accredited subject at Advanced Level at grade E or two at Advanced Subsidiary Level. A mathematics IGCSE, whether 0580 or 0607, is ordinarily one of the five. One competitor page in this market publishes a six-subject requirement, which does not match the published rule. Verify your own case on moe.gov.ae or with the emirate's attestation authority rather than relying on any tutoring page.

Why does 0607 have a paper where calculators are not allowed?+

Because fluency by hand is part of being numerate, and a student who can only operate through a device cannot estimate, cannot check a result for plausibility and cannot work with exact values. The non-calculator component assesses fraction and surd arithmetic, standard form, exact trigonometric values and mental estimation. It is short, and it is where internationally educated students most often underperform, because they have been using a calculator since Year 7. It responds to drill rather than teaching, and the drill should start a year out.

Can a tutor who teaches 0580 handle 0607 as well?+

For the overlapping content, usually yes, and that is most of the syllabus. The risk is the rest. A tutor unfamiliar with the graphics calculator workflow will teach around it rather than through it, and a tutor who has never read an investigation script will set content practice instead. Both gaps are invisible to a parent until the results arrive, because the lessons themselves will look perfectly competent. Ask directly whether they have taught the investigation component and which calculator model they use.

How long does it take to get fluent on the graphics calculator?+

Less time than families expect. The skills that earn marks are a short list: setting a viewing window, graphing and reading intercepts and turning points, finding intersections, building tables, solving numerically, and one and two-variable statistics. Each is a keystroke sequence that can be written down and practised in twenty minutes. Two or three focused sessions, followed by using the device for all homework, generally installs the lot. The habit that takes longer is keeping full precision in intermediate steps and rounding only at the end.

How do we practise investigations without access to the mark scheme?+

By using the published assessment emphases and an experienced reader rather than by hunting for answers. Cambridge's own syllabus and specimen material set out what the component rewards, and past material is available through the school. The part that cannot be substituted is someone reading the student's written explanation and saying where the reasoning jumped, because a student cannot judge the clarity of their own argument. Published papers and mark schemes belong to Cambridge, so the right practice is to work from the official source and link to it rather than circulate copies.

My daughter is strong at maths but keeps losing accuracy marks. What now?+

That is the most common 0607 profile and it is a conventions problem rather than a mathematics problem. The calculator produces long decimals, the syllabus expects answers stated to a particular precision, and rounding part-way through a multi-step calculation shifts the final figure out of tolerance. The fix is mechanical: keep full precision in every intermediate step, round only at the end, and check what accuracy the question asks for before writing anything. It takes one marked paper to see the pattern and about three weeks of corrected homework to break the habit.

What does a 0607 tutor send us after each fortnight?+

Marked homework with the scheme reference alongside it, an error log grouped by cause rather than by topic, and a short written note naming what moved and what did not. Where an investigation task was set, the feedback on it goes in the same place, since the reasoning is the point and the score is not. None of this includes a predicted grade, which is the school's job and depends on assessments across the whole syllabus that a tutor does not set.

We are moving to Dubai mid-year into a 0607 class. Where do we start?+

With a diagnostic that covers both content and one investigation task, because the content gap after a move is usually smaller than the gap in calculator fluency, investigation technique and Cambridge command vocabulary. A four to six week transition block is the normal shape: calculator workflow in the first two sessions, a command-term glossary built from the student's own marked work, and a written list of strands the new school has already covered that your child has not. That list is also what you take to the new head of maths.

Is a group class a sensible way to cover 0607 in Dubai?+

It can work for content and it works poorly for the investigation component, which needs one reader for one student's written reasoning. The practical obstacle in Dubai is also the cohort: 0607 candidates in any one community are fewer than 0580 candidates and are spread across schools at different points in the syllabus, so a group of four at the same stage is hard to assemble. Where a group does exist, the per-student cost is genuinely lower, so the trade is real rather than imaginary.

How quickly can 0607 lessons start, and what if nobody is free?+

Usually within a week for evening slots on Gulf Standard Time, with the free trial often available sooner. The constraint is the size of the specialist pool for this syllabus, which tightens between January and May as mock results land. If no 0607 specialist is free at your preferred time we will say so and set out the options, which may be a different evening, a short wait, or starting with a strong general maths tutor on the overlapping content while being clear that is what it is.

Start with the code, the tier and one investigation

Three pieces of information decide everything on this page: the syllabus code, the tier, and whether your child has ever had an investigation task read back to them. Send the statement of entry so the first two are facts rather than assumptions, and use the free 45-minute trial lesson to settle the third, since a short investigation reveals more about a 0607 candidate than twenty content questions do. The trial costs nothing, needs no card, and the strand map and error log it produces are yours whether or not you book anything further. Tell us which evenings work on Dubai time and we will say plainly what is available.
