IB Classes in Dubai

IB classes in Dubai should produce something you can read. Every session we run for a Dubai family leaves a written record behind it: the topics covered, the marked script with its per-question breakdown, the criterion a coursework draft was measured against, and what was set for the following week. Lessons run live over video on Gulf Standard Time evenings, one student and one subject specialist, starting with a free trial lesson that needs no card details.

  • Every session ends with a written note the family keeps
  • Scripts marked against the published scheme, not a model answer
  • Live video lessons on Gulf Standard Time, one student at a time
  • Free trial lesson first, with no card details required

IB & IGCSE in Dubai

The evidence a class leaves behind, week by week

Most Dubai families book IB classes on a feeling. A report card came back lower than expected, or a mock paper landed two grades below target, and something has to change. Six weeks later the same family is trying to decide whether the classes are working, and the only thing available to judge by is their child's mood on a Thursday evening. That is not a decision anybody can make well. An IB class should leave a paper trail — a marked script, a list of the syllabus statements covered, a mark against a named criterion, a note of what was set for the week ahead — and that trail is the only honest basis for continuing, changing tutor, or stopping.

Dubai is the densest private-school market in the country. The Dubai Media Office reported 387,441 pupils across 227 private schools in 2024-25, offering 17 different curricula, with the International Baccalaureate accounting for 7% of enrolment against 37% on UK curricula. KHDA inspects those schools annually and publishes a band from Outstanding down to Very Weak. That report is genuinely useful context, and it is also the wrong instrument for the question a parent is asking. It describes a school. It says nothing about which four marks your child dropped in the last structured question on energetics.

A session record closes that gap. Ours lists the syllabus sub-topics touched, the questions attempted, the marks earned per question against the published mark scheme, and the specific error category behind each loss — method not shown, units omitted, command term misread, concept absent. After four sessions the pattern is visible on a page rather than remembered differently by three people. After six weeks there is a second marked script on the same topic to set beside the first, which is what movement actually looks like.

The record protects the student as well as the family. Diploma coordinators in Dubai schools routinely ask whether outside help was used on an Internal Assessment, and they are right to ask. A dated trail of the student's own drafts, with the tutor's feedback held separately from the writing, answers that question in the student's favour. A tutor who edits paragraphs into a draft leaves no such defence, and under IB academic-honesty rules the consequence lands on the candidate, not on the tutor.

One point of plain fact about delivery. These classes are taught one-to-one over live video, timed to Gulf Standard Time so a session can sit after a school run and before homework collapses. IB Gram does not offer home visits in Dubai or anywhere else in the UAE; visiting tutors are a service we run only in India. That is a limit worth stating early, because it also buys something: a Higher Level Chemistry specialist is matched to the subject rather than to whoever happens to live twenty minutes from your building.

IB programmes

Every IB programme stage, mapped to UAE school years

Dubai schools run the IB continuum in different combinations: some offer the Primary Years Programme through to the Diploma, others pick up the IB only at 16 after IGCSE. What each programme produces as evidence differs sharply, and that changes what a weekly class should be generating.

PYPAges 3-12 · FS1 to Year 6

Primary Years Programme

Inquiry-led, with no external examinations and no published grades. Assessment is continuous and teacher-held, which means a parent rarely sees a mark at all. Support at this stage works on readable artefacts instead: a reading record, a written number-sense check, a piece of writing before and after a fortnight of work on structure. The useful evidence is a comparison, not a score.

Dubai PYP schools must also deliver Arabic, Islamic Education and Social Studies under KHDA's mandatory-subject guidelines, with separate classes required for Arab and non-Arab pupils. For a non-Arab child starting Arabic as an additional language in Year 3, the only honest early evidence is a vocabulary and script-formation check repeated every few weeks.

MYPAges 11-16 · Years 7-11

Middle Years Programme

Marked against criteria A to D in most subjects, each on a 0-8 band, then converted to a 1-7 grade by a published boundary table the school holds. This is where a parent can start reading real evidence, because every task comes back with criterion letters attached. Most families never ask to see the band descriptors, which is the single cheapest piece of homework available to them.

Dubai schools that run MYP then DP tend to set the eProject or personal project in Year 11, in the same term as IGCSE-equivalent mock weeks at sibling schools. Session records matter here because the criterion language carries straight into the Diploma: a student who learns what a Criterion C 7-8 band looks like at 15 reads an Internal Assessment rubric faster at 17.

DPAges 16-19 · Years 12-13

Diploma Programme

Six subjects, three at Higher Level, plus Theory of Knowledge, the Extended Essay and CAS. Each subject carries internally assessed work worth roughly a fifth to a quarter of the grade, marked by the teacher against published criteria and then moderated externally. The evidence trail here is dense and almost never organised: marked papers, draft feedback, internal deadlines and a predicted grade that arrives before any of it is final.

Dubai Diploma cohorts sit the May session, with results used for UK, North American and increasingly UAE university entry. The pressure point is DP1 term two, when Internal Assessment work in three or four subjects lands at once beside the Extended Essay question deadline. A dated draft trail is what keeps that fortnight from turning into an academic-honesty conversation.

CPAges 16-19 · Years 12-13

Career-related Programme

Two or more Diploma courses alongside a career-related study, a reflective project and a personal and professional skills course. Smaller in the UAE than the full Diploma, and the assessment evidence is a mix of IB-marked components and provider-marked units, which is why families often cannot tell which mark counts for what.

Only a handful of Dubai schools license the Career-related Programme, so a family moving into it usually has no peers to compare notes with. Weekly classes here work best on the Diploma courses taken alongside it, where the mark scheme is public and the reflective project criteria can be read directly from the IB subject guide the school holds.

Subject coverage

IB and IGCSE subjects we tutor

What follows is read from marked scripts rather than from subject descriptions. For each Diploma subject below, the note says what a marked paper usually reveals first — the error that shows up before anything else, and the one a session note should be recording week by week.

Mathematics: Analysis and Approaches

HL and SL

Marked scripts almost always show method marks earned and accuracy marks lost: a correct differentiation followed by an arithmetic slip, or a right answer with no working line to award M1 against. The session note should separate those two categories, because they need entirely different work.

Mathematics: Applications and Interpretation

HL and SL

Statistics questions come back with the test chosen correctly and the conclusion written in the wrong register — a p-value quoted with no reference to the hypothesis. Graphic display calculator questions lose marks for undocumented screens. Both are visible on the script and fixable inside two sessions.

Chemistry

HL and SL

Energetics and equilibrium produce the heaviest losses, and the mark scheme usually shows why: a sign convention dropped, or an explanation that describes the shift without naming the driver. Higher Level organic mechanisms lose marks on curly-arrow placement rather than on the chemistry itself.

Physics

HL and SL

Scripts show the pattern plainly: strong numerical work, thin written explanation. Marks go on questions asking for a reason rather than a value, and on units and significant figures in the final line. Error-carried-forward credit is routinely lost because students stop after a wrong intermediate result.

Biology

HL and SL

Marked papers show recall intact and application missing. A student who can define osmosis loses four marks on a data-based question about a specific tissue. The error log almost always fills with command-term misreads: described where the question asked for an explanation.

Economics

HL and SL

Diagrams appear unlabelled, or labelled and then never referenced in the prose. Evaluation paragraphs list two sides and stop short of a judgement, which is where the top band sits. Higher Level calculation questions lose accuracy marks rather than method marks.

Business Management

HL and SL

Case-study answers return with tool names used as decoration — a SWOT drawn, then ignored. The marked script shows application marks missing because the answer never touches the stimulus material. Quantitative questions lose marks on formula recall, not on interpretation.

English A: Language and Literature

HL and SL

Paper 1 scripts show close reading replaced by summary. Marks are earned for analysis of a specific technique in a specific line, and lost when a paragraph describes what the text is about. Individual Oral feedback usually names the global issue as the weak half.

Geography

HL and SL

Case-study detail is the dividing line. Scripts with named places, dates and figures score; scripts with general processes do not. Marked papers show the missing specifics clearly, and a session note can track how many named examples a student can now deploy unaided.

Computer Science

HL and SL

Pseudocode answers lose marks on initialisation and loop boundaries rather than on logic. Higher Level questions on resource management return with the concept understood and the terminology imprecise. Both show up as a repeated annotation on consecutive scripts.

Theory of Knowledge

Core

The essay comes back with knowledge questions treated as topics. Marks sit in the discussion of how a claim is justified, not in the subject content used as an example. Feedback on a draft should name the assessment instrument's wording rather than rewrite the argument.

Arabic

First language and additional language

KHDA requires Arabic in all Dubai private schools, with separate classes for Arab and non-Arab pupils and Standard Arabic as the language of instruction for first-language cohorts. Progress evidence is script formation, reading fluency and vocabulary retention, checked on a repeated task rather than a single test.

How sessions run

Tutoring formats built around UAE school timetables

Three ways a Dubai family uses these classes. Each produces a different kind of record, and the choice should follow what you need to be able to read at the end of a month rather than what sounds most thorough.

Weekly diagnostic cycle

One 60-minute session a week on a single subject, structured as diagnose, rebuild, re-test. The first session of each cycle is a timed question marked against the published scheme; the second rebuilds the topic it exposed; the third re-tests on a different question. The record is two comparable marked scripts per topic.

  • 60 minutes weekly, one subject, one specialist
  • Marked script in week one of every three-week cycle
  • Topic checklist updated at the end of each cycle
  • Session note by email within 24 hours

Coursework draft supervision

A fixed block of sessions tied to Internal Assessment, Extended Essay or Theory of Knowledge deadlines, working to the student's own draft stages. Feedback is written by criterion and delivered separately from the document, so the draft file stays entirely the student's work and the trail stands up if the coordinator asks.

  • Session at each agreed draft stage, not open-ended
  • Written feedback by criterion letter, held separately
  • Dated drafts remain in the student's own file
  • No editing, rewriting or proofreading to completion

Exam-term intensive

Two or three shorter sessions a week in the final twelve weeks, built around full paper sections rather than topics. Every session produces a marked component and an error log entry, and the cycle ends with a comparison against the baseline script taken at the start of the block.

  • Two to three sessions weekly for a defined block
  • Full paper sections under timed conditions
  • Error log grouped by category, not by question
  • Baseline and endpoint scripts compared in writing

What IB and IGCSE study actually looks like in Dubai

01

What an IB class should leave behind when it ends

A 60-minute class is worth whatever survives it. If nothing is written down, the lesson exists only in two memories that will diverge within a fortnight — the student's, which tends to record how difficult it felt, and the tutor's, which tends to record what was intended. Neither is evidence. The table below lists what each session in a Dubai family's plan actually produces, when it is produced, and who ends up holding the copy.

The point of naming the holder is practical. A session note that lives only in a tutor's own files is useless to a parent deciding in week seven whether to carry on. A marked script that lives only on the student's desk gets lost before the next mock. Each artefact has one owner and one purpose, and a family should be able to produce all five from a single folder by the end of a term.

Nothing in the list is expensive to generate. The marked script takes the time it takes to mark; the session note takes a few minutes; the topic checklist is a single page updated with a pen. The reason competitors do not publish anything like it is not cost but exposure: a written record makes a stalled plan visible at week six, which is precisely when a provider would rather the conversation did not happen. That is the right time for it to happen.

Ask for the shape of the record before the first paid session rather than after the first disappointing month. A provider that writes session notes already has a template and can show you one. A provider that does not will tell you the lessons are going well, which is reassurance rather than information. The question costs nothing and sorts this market quickly.

Reading a marked paper: the annotations that carry the diagnosis

Most parents in Dubai have seen a marked IB or IGCSE script and read only the total. The useful information is in the margin, written in a shorthand nobody explains at parents' evening. Learning five of those abbreviations changes what a report card means, because it tells you whether your child lost marks for not knowing something or for not writing it down in the order the scheme wanted.

The distinction matters because the remedies have nothing in common. A student losing accuracy marks on correct methods needs drilling on units, significant figures and exact forms — a fortnight of work, no new content. A student losing method marks has a content gap that will reappear in every paper until it is rebuilt from the syllabus statement upwards. Treating the second as the first is the most common wasted month in private tuition anywhere.

Ask your child's teacher for the published mark scheme alongside a returned script, or ask a tutor to mark a past paper question against it in front of the student. The schemes are the boards' copyright and we neither host nor distribute them; they are available through the school, which holds a licence. What a class adds is the reading: which annotation repeats, how often, and on which component.

One practical warning about buying marking. A tutor who marks a script inside the paid hour is charging you to read, and twenty minutes of a sixty-minute lesson disappears before any teaching starts. Marking belongs between sessions. Ask where it happens before agreeing a rate, because the answer changes the useful cost of an hour more than the rate itself does.

03

Command terms are the gap between a 4 and a 6

  • State: one line, no reasoning, no paragraph
  • Describe: a detailed account with no causes attached
  • Explain: the cause or reason, named explicitly
  • Evaluate: strengths, limitations and then a judgement
  • Discuss: a balanced review with evidence on both sides

Every IB question opens with an instruction, and the instruction is worth more than the topic. A student who knows the content of a syllabus statement and answers an evaluate question by describing the situation will score in the bottom half of the band every time, in every subject, for two years. It is the most reliably recoverable loss on any Diploma script, and almost nobody treats it as a topic in its own right.

The command terms are published in the front matter of each IB subject guide, which your child's school holds. Reading them takes twenty minutes. Using them is harder, because the habit being replaced is the one that worked at 14: write everything you know and hope the marks are in there somewhere. In the Diploma that habit costs time on a paper with no spare minutes and earns nothing above the lowest band.

A class fixes this with marked evidence rather than advice. Take a returned script, highlight every command term, and compare what the student did with what the term demanded. Do it twice and the pattern is undeniable; the student usually names it themselves. The figures in the final column below are indicative of what is typically at stake per question — check the real allocation against the subject guide and the paper your child is sitting.

The subjects where this costs most are the written ones. In Biology, Geography, Economics and History a misread command term can cost most of the marks on a long question, while in Mathematics it usually costs one. A student carrying three essay-based Higher Level subjects should treat command terms as a topic in their own right, with sessions allocated to them.

Six weeks of evidence: what movement actually looks like

Progress in a Diploma subject is not a smooth line and does not show up weekly. It shows up as a second marked script on the same topic scoring differently from the first. Six weeks is roughly the shortest honest window for that, because it takes one session to diagnose, two or three to rebuild a topic properly, and one more to re-test on an unseen question.

The log below is the shape of a real first block for a single Higher Level subject. The detail that surprises families is week one: the diagnostic routinely narrows four assumed weaknesses to two actual ones. A student who believes they are bad at a whole subject is usually losing marks in two identifiable places, and the relief of seeing that written down does more for the next five weeks than any amount of encouragement.

Week six is the decision point, not week two. If the comparison script shows no movement on the component worked on, the honest conclusions are a different tutor, a different diagnosis, or a different number of sessions — and the family has a page to argue from rather than an impression. We would rather have that conversation at six weeks than take a payment at twelve.

Keep the baseline script. Families routinely throw the first diagnostic away because the result was poor, which destroys the only thing a week-six comparison can be measured against. Scan it, date it, put it in the folder. By the end of a first term it is the most useful single page in the file, precisely because it was the worst result.

The Internal Assessment draft trail and the line that runs through it

Internally assessed work carries roughly a fifth to a quarter of most Diploma subject grades, and it is the part of the course where tuition does the most good and the most damage. The good comes from a student being told, early and specifically, which criterion their draft is not yet meeting. The damage comes from a tutor who improves the document instead, which transfers authorship and puts the candidate at risk under IB academic-honesty rules.

The boundary is not vague once it is written down. A tutor may ask whether the research question is answerable with the data available, name the criterion a section is failing, and check that feedback was understood. A tutor may not supply the question, write the method, rewrite sentences, or proofread a draft to completion. IB Gram does not write, complete or supply Internal Assessments, Extended Essays, Theory of Knowledge essays or any other assessed work, and no amount asked would change that.

What makes the boundary defensible is the record. Dated drafts in the student's own file, feedback delivered as a separate written sheet by criterion letter, and one round of substantive comment per stage. If a coordinator in Dubai asks what outside support was used, that folder is the answer, and it is an answer in the student's favour. Confirm current criterion weightings and word limits with your child's subject guide, which the school holds and which is revised between cohorts.

Timing is the other half of the problem. Internal Assessment work in three or four subjects tends to land in the same fortnight of DP1 term two, alongside the Extended Essay question deadline. A student under that much pressure is the student most likely to accept help that crosses the line, which is why draft stages are agreed in advance rather than improvised in a panic.

What a KHDA inspection report tells you, and what it cannot

KHDA is the Knowledge and Human Development Authority, and under the UAE government's own description it is responsible for enhancing and overseeing the quality of private education in Dubai. It inspects private schools annually and publishes a judgement on a six-band scale running from Outstanding through Very Good, Good, Acceptable and Weak to Very Weak. The reports are free to read on KHDA's site and are more detailed than most families realise, with separate judgements by phase and by subject.

Read the subject-level and phase-level lines rather than the headline band. A school rated Very Good overall may be rated Good for secondary mathematics attainment, and that single line is worth more to a Diploma parent than the cover page. Look also at the gap between attainment and progress: a cohort with high attainment and acceptable progress is coasting, which is a different problem from a cohort struggling to reach the standard at all.

What the report cannot do is tell you about your child. It describes provision across a cohort, measured on a cycle, published months after the visit. Your child's own marked scripts are current, specific and individual. Use the inspection report to understand the environment and the school's own assessment calendar to understand the deadlines; use the scripts to decide what a weekly class should actually work on.

One further use for the report. KHDA confirmed in May 2026 that there would be no increase in private school fees in Dubai for the 2026-27 academic year, under the emirate's second economic incentives package. For a family budgeting tuition alongside school fees, that leaves a fixed number on one side of the ledger and a decision on the other.

07

What IB classes cost in the Dubai market, and what an invoice should itemise

Three of the six best-ranking pages for this search publish no price at all, and the two that do quote US dollars. The figures below are AED rates published by the providers named, read in October 2026. They are market rates and not IB Gram's prices: our own model starts with a free trial lesson and a consultation, and what a plan costs depends on subject, level and how many sessions a week it actually needs.

The spread is real and mostly explicable. The bottom of the range buys a university student working from a textbook, which can be adequate for a Standard Level topic gap and is not adequate for Higher Level coursework. The top of the range buys a claim about examiner experience, which a parent should ask to see evidenced before paying a premium for it. The middle band is where most qualified subject teaching sits.

What matters more than the headline number is what the hour includes. Marking time is the usual hidden line: a provider charging AED 200 and marking a paper outside the session is cheaper per useful hour than one charging AED 170 and spending twenty minutes of the lesson on it. Ask whether the rate covers written feedback, whether coursework blocks are priced separately, and whether the quoted figure includes VAT — and get the answer in writing before the first session.

Two UAE costs rarely appear on a tutoring quote at all. Examination entry as a private candidate is one, where a student sits a paper outside their own school. Ministry of Education equivalency and attestation paperwork after the Diploma is the other. Neither is a tuition cost, and neither should be described as something a tutoring provider handles on your behalf.

Why these classes run over live video for Dubai families

A parent searching for IB classes in Dubai usually pictures someone arriving at the building. Worth answering straight: IB Gram does not send tutors to addresses in Dubai, and home visits are a service we run only in India. Every class described on this page is taught one-to-one over live video, on Gulf Standard Time, with screen sharing and a shared annotation surface so the tutor and the student work on the same script at the same time.

That constraint buys the thing this page is about. Matching by subject rather than by postcode means a Higher Level Chemistry student in Al Qusais gets a Higher Level Chemistry specialist rather than the nearest available science teacher, and the specialist can mark a script between sessions instead of spending the first ten minutes of the lesson reading it. The evidence trail depends on that: marking happens outside the paid hour, and the hour is spent on the diagnosis.

The second gain is scheduling. A Dubai evening has a narrow usable window between the school run and the point where a tired 17-year-old stops absorbing anything, and travel is what consumes it. A video lesson starts when the student sits down. The hour runs intact, the note is written the same evening, and nothing is lost to Sheikh Zayed Road at six o'clock.

One honest limitation is worth naming. A practical component done at a bench, or a Visual Arts exhibition hung in a school hall, cannot happen over video, and the school owns that work in any case. What a video session does with it is the design, the data analysis and the write-up against the published criteria, which is where most of the available marks actually sit.

09

Where a plan stalls, and what the evidence says to change

Plans stall in three recognisable ways, and the evidence file identifies which one you have. The first is a wrong diagnosis: the error log is full of accuracy losses while the sessions keep teaching content. The fix is a change of session plan, not a change of tutor. The second is too few hours against the work outstanding — visible when the topic checklist moves but the exam-condition scripts do not, because the student can do the topic slowly and not under time.

The third is a mismatch of person, which the record also shows, usually as session notes that stop naming specifics. If three consecutive notes could have been written about any student, the tutor is not reading the scripts. We will change the match on request without a reason being given, and we would rather do it at week four than at week fourteen. If no specialist in the subject and level is free in the week you need, we say so and offer a waiting date instead of a generalist.

What we will not do is promise a grade. No tutor can, and a provider that attaches a number to a Dubai Diploma student's final grade is selling something it cannot deliver. What is promisable is a marked script, a written diagnosis, a comparable second script six weeks later, and an honest reading of the two. That is the whole of what IB classes can offer, and it is considerably more than most of this market puts on paper.

Where we tutor

Areas we cover across Dubai

Dubai is a city of distinct school catchments rather than one market. The notes below record what each area actually contains and what it changes about scheduling an evening session, because a 5pm start means different things in Mirdif and in Dubai Marina.

Al Barsha and Barsha South

The densest concentration of IB World Schools in the emirate, which is why families here compare notes constantly. Pupils often reach home by 3.30pm, making a 4.30pm session realistic without eating into the evening.

Dubai Marina and JBR

Apartment living, so the practical constraint is a quiet surface and a door that closes rather than travel. Most secondary pupils here commute out of the area to school, returning between 4pm and 5pm depending on the Sheikh Zayed Road run.

Jumeirah and Umm Suqeim

Villa communities feeding both British and IB schools along the beach road. Sessions here commonly sit at 6pm, after sport, with the family wanting the written note the same evening rather than the next morning.

Mirdif and Al Warqa

Served by a full IB continuum school and several large CBSE schools, so households frequently run two curricula at once. A single written record per child matters more here than anywhere, because the two systems report progress in incompatible language.

Arabian Ranches and Dubai Hills Estate

Long school runs in both directions, with secondary pupils regularly home after 4.30pm. Evening slots at 6.30pm or 7pm are normal, and the session note is often read by a parent who was not in the house when the lesson happened.

Nad Al Sheba and Meydan

Newer villa stock around two established IB continuum schools. Families here often start Diploma support in DP1 rather than DP2, which makes a six-week evidence log genuinely comparable over two years.

Business Bay and Downtown Dubai

High-rise households with students travelling to schools across the city. Scheduling is driven by the return commute, not the distance, and a recorded topic checklist survives a month of travel better than a verbal plan.

Al Jaddaf and Dubai Creek Harbour

A growing catchment around one IB continuum school, with many families new to the Diploma and no local precedent to draw on. The first diagnostic script matters most here because there is nothing to benchmark it against.

School ecosystem

IB and Cambridge school communities we support in Dubai

Al Barsha, Barsha South and Al Sufouh

Students we support in this cluster most often ask for Higher Level Chemistry, Physics and Mathematics: Analysis and Approaches, and the Internal Assessment drafts arrive in DP1 term two rather than DP2. Inspection bands for these schools are published annually on KHDA's own site and should be read there rather than taken from a tutoring website.

  • Nord Anglia International School Dubai
  • Dwight School Dubai
  • GEMS Wellington International School

Mirdif, Nad Al Sheba and Al Jaddaf

A continuum cluster, so students arrive in the Diploma having been marked against MYP criteria for five years. That is an advantage a session note should use: the criterion vocabulary is already familiar, and the first evidence log can start from a real baseline rather than a guess.

  • Uptown International School
  • GEMS Modern Academy
  • Repton School Dubai
  • Kent College Dubai
  • Swiss International Scientific School Dubai

Emirates Hills, Arabian Ranches and Umm Suqeim

Mixed British and IB provision, with several schools running A Level and the Diploma side by side. Students we support here often need help choosing between the two routes in Year 11, and the useful evidence for that decision is a marked IGCSE paper rather than a preference.

How matching works

From first enquiry to a tutor who fits

  1. 01

    Send the last marked paper

Not a description of the problem, the actual script — a mock paper, a unit test, a returned Internal Assessment draft with teacher comments. One marked page tells a subject specialist more than a twenty-minute phone call, and it means the trial lesson can start on a diagnosis rather than on introductions.

  2. 02

Free trial lesson, with a written outcome

Sixty minutes with the subject specialist, at no charge and with no card details taken. The student attempts a timed question; the tutor marks it against the published scheme and writes what the script shows. You receive that note whether or not you continue, which is the point of it being free.

  3. 03

    Agree the plan in writing

Subject, level, sessions per week, the component being targeted first, and the date of the six-week review. We also state what is not included: no coursework writing, no promise about a final grade, no claim to any regulator's approval. Rates and what the hour covers are confirmed before the first paid session.

  4. 04

Weekly sessions with a record each time

Lessons run live over video at the agreed Gulf Standard Time slot. A session note reaches you within 24 hours listing topics, errors by category and work set. Marked scripts and the topic checklist accumulate in one folder you can hand to a teacher if you choose to.

  5. 05

    Read the six-week comparison together

At week six we set the baseline script beside the comparison script and say what moved and what did not. The outcome is one of three decisions: continue, change the session plan, or change the tutor. All three are normal, and the evidence rather than a sales conversation decides which.

Why families choose us

What UAE parents tell us matters most

The record exists whether the news is good or not

A written session note and a six-week comparison make a stalled plan visible early, which is uncomfortable for a provider and useful for a family. We publish the shape of the record on this page so you can ask for it from anyone, including us.

Subject specialists, matched by component

A Higher Level Chemistry student is matched to someone who teaches Higher Level Chemistry, not to a science generalist. Because the lesson is online, the match is made across the whole tutor pool rather than within driving distance of your community.

Marking happens outside the paid hour

Scripts are marked between sessions against the published scheme, so the lesson is spent on the diagnosis rather than on reading. This is the single largest difference in useful minutes per hour between formats, and it is why we quote what the hour contains.

A coursework boundary we state in writing

Feedback by criterion, delivered separately from the document, with the student's dated drafts left untouched. We do not write, complete or edit assessed work, and the trail is designed to stand up if a Diploma coordinator asks what help was used.

No claims we cannot evidence

No regulator approval, no partnership with a school or an examination board, no star rating, no grade guarantee and no statistic without its source. Where this page quotes an AED figure it names the provider that published it and the month it was read.

Honest unavailability

If no specialist covers your child's subject and level in the week you need, we say so and give a date rather than filling the slot with a generalist. A waiting week costs less than six weeks of sessions with the wrong person.

Questions parents ask

IB and IGCSE tutoring in Dubai: your questions answered

What should a weekly IB class in Dubai actually leave behind on paper?+

Five things, and all five are cheap to produce. A session note within 24 hours listing the syllabus statements covered, the errors found and the work set. A marked past-paper question with the per-question breakdown. A topic checklist showing which statements are secure. Dated coursework drafts kept separate from the tutor's written feedback. And a six-week review comparing two marked scripts on the same component. If a provider cannot produce those, you have no basis for judging the spend, and neither do they.

How do we tell whether an IB class is working after six weeks?+

Set the week-one diagnostic script beside a week-six script on the same component, marked against the same published scheme. That comparison is the measurement. A rise in marks on the component worked on is progress; an unchanged script after five sessions on that topic means the diagnosis, the hours or the tutor needs to change. Six weeks is about the shortest honest window, because a topic takes one session to diagnose, two or three to rebuild and one to re-test under time.

What does a tutor's annotation on a marked Paper 1 script mean?+

The abbreviations come from the board's mark scheme. M1 awards a correct method even where the arithmetic then fails. A1 awards the accurate answer including units and required form. ECF means error carried forward, so later work still earns credit after an early slip. OWTTE means the wording may vary but the idea may not. Reading those five tells you whether marks were lost through a content gap or through presentation, and those two problems need completely different sessions.

Should we see the mark scheme my child's answer was marked against?+

Yes, and the school is the route to it. Mark schemes, past papers and subject guides are the copyright of the IB, Cambridge or Pearson, and schools hold licences to use them. IB Gram does not host or distribute any of those documents. Ask your child's teacher to return a script alongside the scheme, or ask a tutor to mark a question against it with the student watching. Seeing where a mark sits changes how a student writes the next answer more than any explanation does.

How many drafts of a Mathematics exploration is a Dubai student allowed?+

The number is set by your school's own internal policy and the current IB subject guide, so confirm it with the Diploma coordinator rather than with a tutoring site. What is constant is the boundary: the writing must be the student's own throughout. A tutor may name the criterion a section is failing and ask whether the data supports the question. A tutor may not supply the research question, write the method or edit the document to completion. Keep each draft dated and keep the feedback on a separate sheet.

What does "evaluate" demand that "describe" does not?+

A judgement. Describe asks for a detailed account with no reasons attached; explain asks for the cause; evaluate asks you to weigh strengths against limitations and then come down somewhere. Students who lose marks here usually write a competent two-sided answer and stop before the last sentence, which is where the top band sits. The command terms are published in the front matter of each IB subject guide your school holds, and twenty minutes reading them is the cheapest mark recovery available in the Diploma.

Can a tutor mark a past paper and give the result to the school?+

A tutor can mark a past paper and give the result to you; whether it reaches the school is your decision and your child's. Some Dubai families find it useful to share a marked script with a subject teacher, particularly where a predicted grade is being set. Nothing a private tutor marks carries any official weight — predicted grades, internal assessment marks and moderation all sit with the school and the IB. Treat a tutor's marking as a diagnostic instrument, not as a second opinion with standing.

Our child's Dubai school reports effort grades. What should we ask for instead?+

Ask for the component breakdown. An effort grade tells you how a teacher reads behaviour; a component breakdown tells you which paper and which topic the marks came off. Specifically, ask for the last marked script with the scheme, the internal assessment deadlines for the year, and the criterion bands used in the subject. Dubai schools hold all three. Those three documents put a weekly class on a real footing within one session instead of three.

How do we track grade movement across a two-year Diploma?+

By component, not by overall grade. An overall subject grade moves slowly and hides which half of the course improved. Keep a single page per subject listing each timed assessment, the paper or component it covered, the mark and the maximum, and the error category that dominated. Over two years that page shows whether the externally assessed papers or the internal assessment is the constraint, which decides where the remaining hours should go in the final six months.

What record should a Dubai family keep of coursework help?+

Dated drafts in the student's own file, plus every piece of tutor feedback held as a separate document, by criterion letter. That is the entire record, and it takes no effort beyond saving files with dates in the names. If a Diploma coordinator asks what outside support was used on an Internal Assessment or Extended Essay, the folder answers in the student's favour: the writing is demonstrably theirs, the feedback is demonstrably commentary. A draft containing a tutor's sentences cannot be defended, and under IB rules the consequence falls on the candidate.

Are IB classes in Dubai delivered online or at our address?+

Online, one-to-one, over live video, timed to Gulf Standard Time. IB Gram does not offer home visits in Dubai or anywhere in the UAE; visiting tutors are a service we run only in India. The practical gain is that matching happens by subject and level across the whole pool rather than within driving distance of your community, and that marking happens between sessions instead of eating the first ten minutes of a paid hour. The practical cost is that nobody arrives at the door.

What does a Dubai IB class cost per hour in the current market?+

Published AED rates read in October 2026 run roughly from AED 45-150 an hour for a university-student or generalist online, AED 150-300 for a qualified subject tutor online, AED 180-500 where a tutor travels, AED 200-450 and above for an IB or IGCSE specialist, and AED 500-650 or more at the examiner-experienced premium end. Those are other providers' published figures, not ours. Ask what the hour includes: marking time outside the session changes the useful cost per hour more than the headline rate does.

How does a tutor hand a session record to a Diploma coordinator?+

Through you. Session notes go to the family, and the family decides what to share. If you want a coordinator to see the diagnosis, forward the note and the marked script; most Dubai coordinators read them with interest, particularly where a subject teacher has flagged the same component. We do not contact a school directly without a parent asking us to, and we never present a private tutor's marking as carrying any standing inside the school's own assessment process.

What evidence should a trial lesson in Dubai produce before we pay?+

A marked piece of work and a written diagnosis. In our trial the student attempts a timed question, the tutor marks it against the published scheme, and you receive a note saying which topics are secure, which are not, and what the first three sessions would target. You get that note whether or not you continue. A trial lesson that produces only an impression of rapport has told you about the tutor's manner and nothing about your child's marks.

Does a KHDA inspection report tell us anything about our child's own grades?+

No. KHDA inspects provision across a school and publishes a band from Outstanding to Very Weak, with useful sub-judgements by phase and subject. Read the secondary mathematics or science lines and the gap between attainment and progress, because that is where a Diploma parent learns something. But the report describes a cohort, on a cycle, months after the visit. Your child's marked scripts are current and individual, and they are what a weekly class should be built on.

What happens if no specialist is free for our subject and level?+

We tell you, give a date, and leave the slot empty rather than filling it with a generalist. Higher Level sciences, Mathematics: Analysis and Approaches at Higher Level and some Language B combinations are the ones that run short across UAE time zones, particularly for early-evening Gulf Standard Time slots in the weeks before the May session. A waiting week costs less than six weeks of sessions with someone who is reading the syllabus for the first time alongside your child.

Start with one marked script

If you are weighing IB classes in Dubai, the useful first step costs nothing: send the last marked paper your child brought home, book the free trial lesson, and read the written diagnosis that comes out of it. No card details are taken for the trial, and the note is yours whether you continue or not. From there a plan is a small number of decisions — subject, level, sessions a week, the component to target first, and a date six weeks out to compare two scripts and decide honestly whether it is working.
