IB 7 in Maths Coaching in Dubai

IB 7 in maths coaching in Dubai starts with a question most revision skips: which of the four Mathematics courses is your child sitting, and which paper is costing them? Analysis and Approaches and Applications and Interpretation are different subjects with different papers. We work from marked scripts and the exploration criteria, one-to-one over live video, in Gulf Standard Time.

  • Analysis and Approaches and Applications treated separately
  • Work split by paper, not by topic list
  • Exploration criteria read letter by letter with the student

IB & IGCSE in Dubai

A grade 7 in Mathematics is a paper-by-paper problem

There are four IB Mathematics courses and they behave differently. Analysis and Approaches rewards algebraic fluency, proof and abstraction. Applications and Interpretation rewards modelling, statistics and interpretation in context. A student can be strong at one and mediocre at the other, and a plan written for the wrong one wastes months. The first thing we establish is the exact course and level, because every later decision depends on it.

The second is which paper is losing the marks, and this is where most Dubai students surprise their families. At Standard Level there are two papers; at Higher Level there are three, with the third a shorter extended-response paper. One of the two main papers is sat without a calculator and the other with a graphic display calculator. Students who describe themselves as weak at Mathematics very often have a paper-specific problem: fluent with technology and lost without it, or the reverse, able to manipulate algebra but unable to use the calculator efficiently enough to finish.

The third is the exploration, which is the internally assessed component and carries 20 marks across five criteria, lettered A to E. It is marked by the teacher against published descriptors and moderated by the IB. We treat it as a separate project with its own plan, because it is the one part of the grade where the student controls the conditions entirely: topic, timeline, depth, and how carefully the criteria have been read. Confirm the current weightings and criteria with your child's teacher or the current subject guide, since the IB revises its documents and the school's copy is the authoritative one.

Dubai adds the usual pressures. Mathematics is the subject Dubai families most often seek help with across both the IB and IGCSE, which means specialist availability tightens sharply when every school's mock window lands between late November and early February. Higher Level Analysis and Approaches is the single hardest match to make in the emirate during those weeks, and families who wait until January to look are choosing from whoever is left rather than from the right person.

One more distinction is worth drawing before any plan is written. A student at a 6 who wants a 7 and a student at a 4 who wants a 6 are not doing the same work, even in the same class. The first is recovering the last marks of long questions and polishing an exploration; the second is closing genuine content gaps in functions or calculus and will need months rather than weeks. Families sometimes arrive with the first label and the second problem, and saying which one the script actually shows is part of the job rather than a sales objection.

All our UAE sessions run one-to-one over live video, scheduled in Gulf Standard Time. IB Gram does not send tutors to homes anywhere in the UAE; home visits are a service we offer only in India. For Mathematics the online format has a practical edge beyond reach: working on a shared screen means the tutor sees the student's actual written method as it is produced, which is precisely where the method marks are won and lost.

IB programmes

Every IB programme stage, mapped to UAE school years

Mathematics in the IB is a continuous sequence rather than a two-year course, and the grade 7 question looks different at each stage.

DPAges 16-19 · Years 12-13

Diploma Programme Mathematics

Four courses: Analysis and Approaches at Higher and Standard Level, and Applications and Interpretation at Higher and Standard Level. Two papers at Standard Level, three at Higher, plus the exploration as the internally assessed component across all four routes.

Dubai schools do not all offer all four routes. Some run Analysis and Approaches only at Higher Level, or Applications only at Standard, which means a student's choice is partly determined by their school's staffing. Families moving between Dubai schools mid-Diploma occasionally find the course they were taking is not offered at the new school, which is worth checking before a transfer rather than after.

MYPAges 11-16 · Years 7-11

Middle Years Programme Mathematics

Criterion-referenced assessment across four criteria rather than papers. Extended mathematics is offered in the later years and is the usual preparation for Analysis and Approaches at Higher Level. The lack of timed external papers is the main gap students carry into DP1.

Dubai students coming into the Diploma from MYP rather than IGCSE frequently lose their first DP1 Mathematics marks to exam technique rather than content. The algebra is there; the ability to produce it under a clock, on paper, with method shown, is not yet. That is a few weeks of work if it is diagnosed early and a persistent handicap if it is not.

IGCSEAges 14-16 · Years 10-11

IGCSE into Diploma Mathematics

Most Dubai students reach the Diploma via Cambridge 0580 or Pearson 4MA1, sometimes with Additional Mathematics 0606 or Further Pure 4PM1 alongside. Students who took the additional course arrive with a real advantage in Analysis and Approaches at Higher Level.

The clearest predictor we see of a comfortable start in Analysis and Approaches HL among Dubai students is whether they sat Additional Mathematics or Further Pure at IGCSE. Students who did not can still succeed, but usually need a bridging block over the summer before DP1 covering calculus foundations and algebraic fluency.

COREAges 16-19 · Years 12-13

The exploration and the core

The Mathematics exploration is an individual piece of written mathematics, marked against five criteria worth 20 marks in total and moderated externally. It sits alongside the Diploma core of Theory of Knowledge, the Extended Essay and CAS, each with its own deadlines.

Dubai internal deadlines for the exploration cluster in the same months as mock exams and other subjects' Internal Assessments, which is why so many explorations are written in a rush against a teacher's extended deadline. Starting the topic conversation a term early is the cheapest intervention available in this subject.

Subject coverage

IB and IGCSE subjects we tutor

A grade 7 in Mathematics is built out of specific competences rather than topics. Below are the ones that decide the grade, with where each is assessed.

Algebraic fluency without a calculator

AA HL and SL, assessed on the non-calculator paper

Manipulating expressions, solving exactly, and producing surds and logarithms correctly under time. Students who rely on a graphic display calculator in class arrive at this paper unable to work by hand, and the loss is uniform across the whole paper rather than concentrated.

Calculus

AA HL and SL, with HL extension topics

Differentiation and integration techniques, then their application in optimisation and kinematics. At Higher Level the extension material is where the final marks of long questions sit, which makes it the most common gap between a 6 and a 7.

Proof and reasoning

AA HL principally

Proof by induction, contradiction and counterexample. Rarely a large number of marks and frequently the difference at the top, because it is the part of the paper most students have practised least and it cannot be improvised in the exam.

Statistics and probability

All four courses, weighted towards AI

Distributions, hypothesis testing and conditional probability. The AI courses go further, and the losses there are nearly always interpretation: the correct test performed and no conclusion written in the context of the question.

Modelling

AI HL and SL

Choosing a function to fit a situation, justifying the choice, and judging the model's limitations. Marks come from the justification and the critique, not the fitting, which is why strong calculator users still lose marks here.

Graphic display calculator technique

All four courses, on the calculator paper

Solving numerically, using statistical functions, reading intersections and storing values accurately. Speed matters: students who work slowly on this paper run out of time on the later questions, and that is a technique problem rather than a mathematics one.

Vectors, matrices and complex numbers

Course-dependent at Higher Level

Content that is taught late in DP2 in many Dubai schools and is therefore thin at mock time. A low mock mark in these topics usually reflects teaching order rather than ability, and the right response is to note it and plan for it.

The exploration

All four courses, 20 marks across five criteria

Criteria A to E cover presentation, mathematical communication, personal engagement, reflection and use of mathematics. The last of these carries the largest single allocation, and students routinely lose it by choosing a topic that cannot sustain mathematics at the level of their course.

Paper 3 extended response

Higher Level only, both courses

Two long investigation-style questions that build across multiple parts. Students lose marks by treating each part as separate rather than following the structure the question is setting up, and that pattern is learnable with practice.

Command terms and method presentation

All papers

Method marks are awarded for working that is written down, and 'hence' means the previous result must be used. Dubai mock scripts are full of correct answers with no visible method, and recovering those marks is the fastest improvement available in this subject.

How sessions run

Tutoring formats built around UAE school timetables

Mathematics support divides naturally into three shapes, because the papers and the exploration are genuinely different pieces of work. All three run one-to-one over live video.

Paper-specific block

Work aimed at the paper that is losing marks, which is usually the non-calculator paper or Paper 3 at Higher Level. The tutor works from marked scripts, identifies the question types where marks disappear, and drills those under time until the pattern changes.

  • Diagnosis from a marked script before session one
  • Question-type drilling rather than topic revision
  • Timed practice marked between sessions
  • Typically six to ten sessions

Exploration project block

Three to five sessions spread across the exploration's life: topic choice, whether the mathematics can reach the level of the course, criteria read letter by letter, and feedback on the student's own draft. The writing and the mathematics remain entirely the student's.

  • Topic tested against the five criteria early
  • Criterion E discussed before any writing starts
  • Feedback on drafts the student wrote
  • Scheduled around the school's internal deadline

Weekly course support

A standing weekly hour running alongside the school's teaching, which suits students who want to stay ahead of the content rather than repair it later. The most cost-effective shape across two years, and the one that makes Higher Level manageable for students who came from a standard IGCSE Mathematics course.

  • Keeps pace with the school's scheme of work
  • Catches gaps before they compound
  • Includes exploration milestones in the plan
  • Reviewed monthly against marked work

What IB and IGCSE study actually looks like in Dubai

01

The four courses and their papers, side by side

Families frequently arrive asking for help with 'IB Maths', which is four different requests. Analysis and Approaches is the algebraic and analytic route, expected by most engineering, physics, mathematics and many economics programmes. Applications and Interpretation is the modelling and statistics route, suited to students heading for business, social sciences, design and many life science programmes. Both exist at Higher and Standard Level, and the Higher Levels are substantial courses by any measure.

The assessment shape is what drives a revision plan. Standard Level students sit two papers; Higher Level students sit three, the third being a shorter extended-response paper built from long multi-part investigations. The exploration is internally assessed in all four routes and carries 20 marks against five criteria. The weightings below are the shape as taught in Dubai schools at the time of writing; confirm them against your child's current subject guide, because the IB revises documents and the school's copy governs.

What matters practically is that one paper is sat without a calculator and one with it, which splits the subject into two different skills. A student who has done all their classwork on a graphic display calculator can appear competent all year and then lose a third of the available marks on the paper that takes the calculator away. The reverse happens too: students who are strong algebraically but slow with technology run out of time on the calculator paper and leave later questions blank.

That split is why we diagnose by paper before anything else. Two students with the same grade 5 may need opposite work, and the only way to know is to look at both papers' scripts. Where a school has only set one paper in a mock, the diagnosis is incomplete and we say so rather than guess.

The exploration criteria, letter by letter

The exploration is the one part of a Mathematics grade where the student sets the conditions, and it is also the part most often written in a hurry against an extended internal deadline. It is marked out of 20 across five criteria, lettered A to E, and the allocations are not equal. Knowing which criterion carries the most marks changes how a student spends their time, and almost no student we meet has read the descriptors before choosing a topic.

The table below sets out the criteria and what each rewards. Verify the current mark allocations against your child's subject guide, since the school's copy is authoritative and the IB does revise its documents. The important structural point holds regardless: the use of mathematics criterion carries the largest single allocation, which means the topic has to be capable of sustaining mathematics at the level of the course. A beautifully presented exploration built on arithmetic cannot score well in a Higher Level course, however much personal engagement it shows.

The commonest failure we see in Dubai explorations is topic choice made for interest alone. A student passionate about football chooses a football topic, discovers after three weeks that the available mathematics is descriptive statistics, and cannot reach the level required. Testing the topic against criterion E before any writing begins takes one session and prevents a term of wasted effort. That single conversation is the highest-value hour in the whole subject.

The second commonest failure is reflection treated as a conclusion. The reflection criterion wants the student to evaluate their own mathematics, acknowledge limitations and consider extensions, which is a different activity from summarising what was done. It is a small allocation, but it is routinely scored at zero or one by students who wrote a competent exploration and then stopped.

03

Where the last marks go on each paper

  • Write the method: a correct answer alone scores the answer mark only
  • Treat 'hence' as an instruction to use the previous result
  • Practise with the actual calculator model, under time
  • Give exact values where the paper asks for them

Students aiming at a 7 in Mathematics usually lose marks in four identifiable places, and none of them is a topic. The first is unwritten method. Method marks exist for working that appears on the page; a correct answer with no working earns the answer mark alone, and a wrong answer with no working earns nothing at all. Dubai mock scripts routinely show a student who understood the question and scored two marks out of six for it.

The second is the final parts of long questions. Questions are built to escalate, and the last part often requires the previous result. The word 'hence' is an instruction, and ignoring it costs the marks even when the answer arrives by another route. Students who stop when the routine work runs out are leaving a predictable number of marks on the table in every paper they sit.

The third is calculator efficiency, and it is almost invisible until it is measured. On the calculator paper, speed determines how many later questions get attempted. A student who takes four minutes to set up a statistical calculation that should take one is losing marks at the end of the paper for a reason that has nothing to do with mathematics. Timed practice with the specific model of calculator fixes this faster than anything else on this list.

The fourth is exact-value discipline on the non-calculator paper: surds left unsimplified, logarithms evaluated approximately, answers given as decimals where an exact form was required. Each individual loss is one mark. Across a paper it is a grade. All four of these are diagnosable from a marked script in one session, which is why we ask for the script before the first lesson rather than during it.

What Mathematics coaching costs in Dubai, cheapest first

Taking the market from the bottom up rather than the top down is more useful here, because Mathematics is the subject where the cheapest options are most heavily advertised. At the budget end of the published Dubai market, read in October 2026, Tutopiya lists from AED 33 to 52 an hour and EdFlik from AED 45 to 65. Those rates buy homework support from a capable graduate, and for a Standard Level student who needs someone to keep them working through exercises, that may be exactly the right purchase.

The next band up, qualified online subject tutors at AED 150 to 300 an hour, is where syllabus-specific teaching starts. Unitors publishes from AED 200 for IB. At this level a tutor knows the paper structures and the mark schemes, which is the minimum for work aimed at a 7. Above that, IB specialists are published at AED 200 to 450 and above, with TutorChase at AED 270 and Bestimate reaching AED 450 and above, and one premium provider publishing AED 650.

In-home visits run AED 180 to 500 an hour, with the travel inside the rate. Monthly comparisons in the market include around AED 799 for eight online sessions and AED 1,599 to 1,799 for four two-hour in-home visits. Bestimate's monthly estimates for weekly one-hour sessions are AED 240 to 600 at the budget end, AED 600 to 1,200 in the middle and AED 1,000 to 2,000 and above for specialist exam-year work.

For Mathematics specifically, the band that matters depends on the job. A student needing content coverage can be well served in the middle band. A student at a 6 trying to reach a 7, or one writing a Higher Level exploration, needs the specialist band, because the work is criteria-level and paper-specific. We publish no rate card on these pages; the figure depends on course, level and whether the exploration is in scope, and it is confirmed after the free trial lesson.

Why Mathematics works well on a shared screen

Mathematics is the subject where the objection to online tutoring is heard most often and holds least. The work is written, step by step, and the question is whether the tutor can see the student's writing as it happens. On a shared screen with a writing tablet or a document camera, they can, and they can annotate it in the same moment. What the tutor is watching for is precisely what a parent cannot see: whether the method is being written down, whether the notation is consistent, whether the student jumps to an answer.

The second advantage is the record. Every annotated page is saved, so by the spring of DP2 a student has a file of their own corrected long questions with the specific error marked on each. For a subject where the losses are habitual rather than topical, that archive is more useful than any textbook, and it does not exist when the work is done on paper in a kitchen.

In-home Mathematics tutoring in Dubai is a large market with published rates of roughly AED 180 to AED 500 an hour. Part of that is travel. The structural limit is the pool: a Higher Level Analysis and Approaches specialist who can mark Paper 3 is a narrow category, and the subset of that category willing to drive to a specific Dubai community at 6pm is narrower still. IB Gram does not offer home visits in the UAE; home visits are a service we offer only in India, and all UAE sessions are one-to-one over live video.

The honest exception is younger children, for whom physical presence does real work in keeping attention on task. A Diploma Mathematics student is not in that category. What they need is someone who knows where the marks are, available at a time that fits a Dubai school week, and able to see their written method as they produce it.

06

The exploration and academic honesty

  • Topic, technique and criteria are taught; the exploration is written by the student
  • Mathematics the student cannot explain is a visible problem, not a hidden one
  • Purchased coursework risks the whole Diploma
  • Official subject guides come from the school, not from us

The exploration must be the student's own work, and in Mathematics the temptation to cross that line is unusually strong because the output is a document. The IB's position is clear and so is ours. A tutor may discuss a topic, point out whether the mathematics can reach the level of the course, explain what each criterion rewards, teach a technique the student needs, and give feedback on a draft the student has written. A tutor may not write it, produce the mathematics for it, or edit it into shape.

There is a specific market reason to be explicit. At least one provider ranking for UAE IB queries sells completed Internal Assessments, at around AED 3,750. A student who submits purchased work risks a malpractice finding, which can cost the Diploma rather than the subject grade. In Mathematics the risk is compounded because the mathematics itself is traceable: an exploration using techniques the student cannot explain is identifiable in a two-minute conversation with a teacher.

A practical test for parents: ask the student to explain, without notes, why their exploration uses the method it uses and what its limitations are. That is the reflection criterion restated as a question, and a student who has done their own work answers it easily. A student who cannot answer it has a problem that no grade compensates for.

On materials, we link to official IB documents and publishers rather than redistributing subject guides, mark schemes or grade boundary tables. The school's own copies of the subject guide and criteria sheets are the authoritative versions, and the subject teacher is the right route to them.

07

Starting Mathematics work, course and paper first

Send four things: which course, which level, the most recent marked paper, and whether the exploration has been started. Those four answers determine everything. Without the course and level we cannot even tell you whether the right specialist exists; without the script we cannot tell you which paper is costing the marks; and the exploration question frequently changes the priority order entirely, because an unstarted exploration with a deadline in six weeks outranks paper practice.

Availability is worth saying plainly. Higher Level Analysis and Approaches is the tightest match we make in Dubai, and it tightens further between late November and early February when every school's mock returns at once. If the specialist is not free, we will tell you the realistic wait rather than offer a Standard Level tutor for Higher Level work. Where a tutor outside the UAE covers the course at the same online format and Gulf-time scheduling, we say so, because concealing where a tutor sits is a trust failure common in this market.

The trial lesson is free and the only condition is finding a time. For Mathematics we use it on a real question from the student's own marked paper, with the shared screen and writing tablet set up, because that also tests the practical side: whether the student can work comfortably in that format. Most can within ten minutes; a few prefer a different setup, and it is better to discover that in a free hour.

After that the plan is built around the paper diagnosis and the exploration deadline, reviewed at week three against new marked work, and narrowed as the predictable losses disappear. We will tell you when the remaining gap is content that needs the school's teaching rather than more tutoring, which happens most often with topics taught late in DP2 such as vectors or complex numbers.

Where we tutor

Mathematics demand across Dubai

Mathematics is the most requested subject in this market, and the specific course mix differs by community according to which schools it feeds.

Emirates Hills and The Meadows

Heavy Analysis and Approaches Higher Level demand, often from students targeting engineering or economics degrees. Requests here usually begin in DP1 rather than after a mock.

Dubai Hills Estate

A mix of both courses, with more Applications and Interpretation than older communities because newer schools offer it more widely. Exploration support is the most common first request.

Al Barsha and Dubai Science Park

Several Diploma schools within a short radius, with different course offerings. Families here frequently discover a neighbour's child is doing a different Mathematics course entirely.

Jumeirah and Umm Suqeim

Students often arrive from Cambridge or Pearson IGCSE. Those who took Additional Mathematics or Further Pure settle into Higher Level far more easily, and that shows in the first term.

Arabian Ranches and Mudon

Long school runs push sessions to weekends. Two 90-minute weekend blocks works better here than four short weekday slots during the Diploma years.

Dubai Marina and Jumeirah Lakes Towers

Short commutes make weekday evening work practical. Requests tend to be urgent and paper-specific, usually after a non-calculator paper went badly.

Mirdif and Al Qusais

Students travel further to Diploma schools, so later evening slots suit better. Applications and Interpretation requests are proportionally higher in this cluster.

Nad Al Sheba and Meydan

A growing Diploma population attending schools across the city. Exploration deadlines here often arrive before families have had the topic conversation at all.

How matching works

From first enquiry to a tutor who fits

  1. 01

Name the course, level and paper

Analysis and Approaches or Applications and Interpretation, Higher or Standard, and which paper the marks are going on. Those three facts determine whether the right specialist exists and what the plan should contain.

  2. 02

    Send the marked script

The tutor maps the mark distribution before the first session, separating unwritten method from topic gaps from calculator slowness. Those need different work, and only the paper distinguishes them.

  3. 03

    Say where the exploration stands

Started, drafted, or not begun, and when the school's internal deadline falls. An unstarted exploration six weeks out usually outranks paper practice, and the topic conversation is the highest-value hour in the subject.

  4. 04

    Take the free trial lesson

One live session on a real question from the student's own paper, with the shared screen and writing tablet set up. It tests the teaching and the format at once, and there is no condition beyond booking a time.

  5. 05

Review at week three on marked work

The diagnosis is tested against fresh marked practice rather than impressions. Work narrows as the predictable losses disappear, and we say when the remaining gap needs the school's teaching rather than more sessions.

Why families choose us

What UAE parents tell us matters most

Course and paper before topics

The four IB Mathematics routes are different subjects, and one paper is sat without a calculator. Diagnosing by paper rather than by topic list is what separates a useful plan from a generic revision schedule.

The exploration treated as 20 marks

Five lettered criteria, unequal allocations, and a topic that has to sustain course-level mathematics. We test the topic against the criteria before any writing starts, which saves more time than any other single session.

Method marks recovered first

Correct answers with no working are the largest recoverable loss in Dubai Mathematics scripts. Rebuilding the habit of writing method is faster and cheaper than teaching new content.

Market rates published with sources

The AED bands here are other providers' published figures with the month they were read, starting at the budget end because that is where Mathematics is most heavily advertised.

Written work visible as it happens

A shared screen with a writing tablet lets the tutor watch the method being produced, which is where the marks are won. Annotated pages are saved, building an archive of the student's own corrected questions.

Availability stated honestly

Higher Level Analysis and Approaches is the tightest match in Dubai, and tighter still in mock season. We give the real wait rather than substituting a Standard Level tutor, and we say where a tutor is based.

Questions parents ask

IB and IGCSE tutoring in Dubai: your questions answered

What is the difference between IB Maths AA and AI for a Dubai student?+

Analysis and Approaches is the algebraic and analytic route, built around functions, calculus and, at Higher Level, proof. Applications and Interpretation is the modelling and statistics route, built around fitting models to situations and interpreting them in context. Most engineering, physics and mathematics degrees expect Analysis and Approaches; business, social science and design programmes commonly accept either. Both exist at Higher and Standard Level. A student can be genuinely strong at one and ordinary at the other, which is why a revision plan written for the wrong course wastes months of work.

Which paper should we focus on to move from a 6 to a 7?+

Whichever one the marked scripts say, and the answer is often the opposite of what the family expects. One paper is sat without a calculator and one with it, and those are different skills. Students who do all their classwork on a graphic display calculator can lose a large share of the non-calculator paper, while strong algebraists sometimes run out of time on the calculator paper because setup is slow. At Higher Level, Paper 3 is a third distinct skill: long investigations that build across their parts. We diagnose by paper before planning anything.

How is the Mathematics exploration marked?+

Out of 20 marks across five criteria, lettered A to E: presentation, mathematical communication, personal engagement, reflection and use of mathematics. The allocations are not equal, and use of mathematics carries the largest single share, which is why the topic has to be capable of sustaining mathematics at the level of the course. Your child's subject guide holds the current descriptors and allocations, and the school's copy governs. Testing a topic against those criteria before any writing begins is the single most useful session available in this subject.

My child chose an exploration topic they love but the maths is thin. What now?+

Change the topic or change the angle, and do it immediately rather than after another draft. The use of mathematics criterion carries the largest allocation, and a topic that only supports descriptive statistics cannot score well in a Higher Level course however engaged the student is. Often the subject can be kept and the question narrowed to a part that admits real mathematics: optimisation, a modelled relationship, a probability structure. One session is usually enough to find that angle, and the alternative is a term of work capped at a low band.

Can my child reach a 7 if they are currently at a 5?+

Sometimes, and the script decides. A 5 made up of unwritten method, calculator slowness and missed final parts of long questions is largely technique, and technique moves quickly. A 5 made up of genuine content gaps across functions and calculus is a longer piece of work, usually a year rather than a term. The useful answer comes from looking at both papers rather than from the grade, and we would rather tell you the realistic target from the evidence than attach an ambitious label to the work.

How much does IB Maths tutoring cost in Dubai at each level of the market?+

Published Dubai rates read in October 2026 start at the budget end with Tutopiya from AED 33 to 52 an hour and EdFlik from AED 45 to 65. Qualified online subject tutors run AED 150 to 300, with Unitors publishing from AED 200 for IB. IB specialists are published at AED 200 to 450 and above, with TutorChase at AED 270 and one premium provider at AED 650. In-home visits run AED 180 to 500 with travel inside the rate. Those are other providers' figures; ours depends on course, level and whether the exploration is in scope.

Is the cheapest band ever the right choice for Mathematics?+

Yes, for a specific job. A Standard Level student who understands the content but will not sit down and work through exercises is well served by an affordable tutor who keeps them working, and paying specialist rates for that is waste. The budget band stops being appropriate the moment the work is about mark schemes, paper technique or the exploration criteria, because those require someone who knows the assessment rather than the mathematics alone. Matching the band to the job is most of the value in this decision, and most pages in this market never mention it.

Does a graphic display calculator model matter for practice?+

It matters more than families expect. Speed on the calculator paper determines how many of the later questions get attempted, and speed is model-specific: menu paths, statistical functions and storing values all differ. A student who practises on a different model from the one they will sit the exam with loses time on the day for no mathematical reason. Sessions therefore use the student's own model, and part of the early work is often timing routine setups until they take seconds rather than minutes.

My child's mock covered vectors and they scored nothing. Should we panic?+

Usually not. Vectors, matrices and complex numbers are taught late in DP2 at many Dubai schools, so a mock that included them tested content the student had barely met. The mark understates the position. The right response is to confirm with the subject teacher when those topics are being taught and to plan tutoring around that schedule rather than to pay for pre-teaching the whole topic. Where the school's sequence leaves a topic very late, a short block just after it is taught is better value than a block before.

How does online Maths tutoring handle written working?+

Through a shared screen with a writing tablet or a document camera, so the tutor watches the method being produced rather than seeing a finished answer. That matters because the largest recoverable loss in Dubai Mathematics scripts is correct thinking with no working written down, and it is only diagnosable by watching. Every annotated page is saved, so across the Diploma a student accumulates a file of their own corrected long questions with the specific error marked on each, which is a better revision resource than a textbook.

Do you send a Maths tutor to our home in Dubai?+

No. IB Gram delivers all UAE tutoring one-to-one over live video, and home visits are a service we offer only in India. For Mathematics the limiting factor is the pool: a Higher Level Analysis and Approaches specialist who can mark Paper 3 to criteria is a narrow category, and the subset willing to drive to a given Dubai community in the early evening is narrower still. In-home rates of AED 180 to 500 an hour also carry travel inside them, which buys movement rather than teaching.

When should we start thinking about the exploration?+

A term before the school's internal deadline, and earlier than most Dubai students do. Internal deadlines cluster in the same months as mocks and other subjects' Internal Assessments, which is why so many explorations are written against an extended deadline in a rush. The early work is cheap and decisive: read the criteria, test two or three candidate topics against the use of mathematics criterion, and pick the one that can sustain course-level mathematics. That is one or two sessions, and it prevents the most expensive failure in the subject.

Can one tutor cover both Mathematics and Physics for the same student?+

Sometimes, and it can work well because the two subjects share technique: data handling, unit discipline, method presentation. The caution is depth at Higher Level. A tutor strong in Higher Level Mathematics and generally capable in Physics is not the same as a Higher Level Physics specialist who can handle the option topic and Paper 3 data analysis. For boundary work we would rather use two specialists than one generalist, and for content coverage one tutor across both is often the better use of a budget.

What should we ask the Maths teacher after a disappointing paper?+

Four questions. Which paper lost the most marks, and was it method or content? Were marks lost for working that was not shown? Which topics in this paper are still to be taught properly? And is the exploration on track against the internal deadline? Also ask for the mark scheme alongside the script, which is a normal request. Those answers tell an outside tutor more than any report comment, and they frequently reveal that the problem is habitual rather than topical, which is the cheaper problem to fix.

Is Higher Level Maths manageable for a student who took ordinary IGCSE Maths?+

Yes, with a bridging block and realistic expectations. The clearest predictor of a comfortable start in Analysis and Approaches at Higher Level among Dubai students is whether they sat Additional Mathematics 0606 or Further Pure 4PM1 alongside their main IGCSE. Students who did not can still succeed, but usually need work over the summer before DP1 on algebraic fluency and calculus foundations, and a standing weekly hour through DP1 rather than a repair block in DP2. Starting early is both cheaper and more effective here than catching up later.
