IB Chemistry Tutor in Mohammed Bin Rashid City

Most families searching for an IB Chemistry tutor in Mohammed Bin Rashid City have already been quoted a number and have no way to judge it. The cheapest online tutoring in Dubai is advertised from around AED 33 an hour and the most expensive from AED 650, with nothing on the ranking pages to explain the gap. This page sets out what each band actually buys a DP Chemistry student in District One or Sobha Hartland, and where the money usually leaks.

The real question is not the hourly rate

A chemistry quote in Dubai means almost nothing on its own. Two tutors can both charge AED 220 an hour and deliver work that differs by a grade boundary, because the rate reflects what the market will bear in a given district rather than what the tutor can teach. The useful questions are different: how many hours will this take, how much of the grade are those hours aimed at, and what am I paying for that I would get anyway.

Start from the bottom of the market rather than the top, because that is where most MBR City families begin. EdFlik advertises budget online tutoring from AED 45 to 65 an hour and Tutopiya from AED 33 to 52. At that price the tutor is usually a university student, and for a Year 9 or MYP chemistry student needing homework support that can be entirely adequate. For a Higher Level DP2 student who needs organic mechanisms taught properly, it is not, and the eight weeks spent discovering that cost more than the saving.

One step up, Unitors publishes IB tuition from AED 200 an hour and IGCSE from AED 150 — the only competitor in this market with a published hourly rate at all. TutorChase quotes AED 270. Bestimate's Tutoring Cost Dubai 2026 table puts IB and A Level specialists at AED 200 to 450 or more, and in-home one-to-one visits at AED 180 to 350 once travel is in the number. BartyED, at the top, publishes AED 650. Three of the six main competitor pages in this market publish no price at all, and one of them has a frequently asked question that asks the price and then declines to answer it.

What those figures do not tell you is total cost. A weekly hour at AED 220 is roughly AED 950 a month. A DP Chemistry student who starts in DP1 term two and runs one session a week to the May session of DP2 is buying around sixty hours. A student who starts in DP2 February needs two or three sessions a week for ten weeks to cover the same ground badly, which is twenty-five to thirty hours in a compressed block, at a higher effective rate because specialist availability in the spring is tight. The second route is cheaper on paper and worse on both grade and money.

The delivery position, stated plainly: IB Gram does not send tutors to homes in Mohammed Bin Rashid City or anywhere else in the UAE. Visiting tutors are an India-only service. Chemistry here is one-to-one live video in Gulf Standard Time, which removes the travel premium from the price and removes driving distance from the tutor pool. Both of those are cost arguments as much as quality ones.

IB programmes

Every IB programme stage, mapped to UAE school years

Chemistry appears at three levels across the schools MBR City families use, and the cost profile of each is different because the assessment load is different. The notes below say what each stage demands and what that usually means in hours.

DPAges 16-19 · Years 12-13

Diploma Programme

Chemistry sits in Group 4 at Standard or Higher Level, organised into Structure 1 to 3 and Reactivity 1 to 3, with a Scientific Investigation worth 20% of the grade. Higher Level adds depth inside the same themes and a longer Paper 2. This is the stage where tuition spending concentrates, and the stage where it is most often misdirected towards coursework rather than Paper 2 technique.

Across the MBR City catchment, DP Chemistry cohorts in a single Dubai IB school are often small, since IB accounted for roughly 7% of Dubai private-school pupils in 2024-25. A small cohort means less peer material to work from and a sharper fall if a student slips, which is the usual trigger for a family in District One or Sobha Hartland to start pricing tutors in DP1 term two.

MYPAges 11-16 · Years 7-11

Middle Years Programme

Chemistry is taught inside MYP Sciences and assessed against four criteria rather than by examination. Hours at this stage are cheaper and more effective per dirham than hours in DP2, because the work is habit-forming — balancing equations reliably, handling moles without a calculator crutch, writing a method that someone else could repeat.

The continuum schools in Sobha Hartland run MYP straight into DP, so a student may reach DP1 without having sat a timed chemistry examination. Families who buy a short MYP5 block to build examination habits usually spend less in DP2 than families who wait, which is the clearest cost argument in the whole sequence.

IGCSEAges 14-16 · Years 10-11

IGCSE Chemistry, for comparison

The British-curriculum schools around MBR City run IGCSE Chemistry at Core or Extended, under Cambridge syllabus 0620 or the Pearson Edexcel equivalent. Rates at this stage are lower across the market — Unitors publishes IGCSE from AED 150 against IB from AED 200 — because the content ceiling is lower and the tutor pool larger.

Worth knowing if your child will move from a British school in Sobha Hartland into a DP Chemistry course. The IGCSE-to-DP gap in chemistry is concentrated in energetics and organic mechanisms, and closing it over a summer costs materially less than closing it in DP1 term one while new content arrives weekly.

ALAges 16-18 · Years 12-13

A Level Chemistry, for comparison

The alternative post-16 route at the British schools in this district. Content overlaps heavily with DP Chemistry but the assessment model differs: A Level weights externally assessed practical skills more heavily, DP places 20% on a single student-designed investigation. Market rates are similar, with Bestimate grouping IB and A Level specialists in the same AED 200 to 450+ band.

For an MBR City family choosing between the British school and the IB continuum school two minutes away, the cost of support is roughly equal. The difference is where it falls: a DP family spends on investigation supervision in DP2 term one, an A Level family spends on practical examination preparation. Plan the budget around the model your child's school enters them for.

Subject coverage

IB and IGCSE subjects we tutor

Chemistry is rarely tutored alone, and a second subject changes the monthly figure more than most families anticipate. Below are the courses MBR City families most often add, with what each one assesses and where the marks go missing.

Chemistry

SL and HL

Structure 1 to 3 and Reactivity 1 to 3. Marks are lost most reliably on moles in multi-step calculations, on organic mechanism arrows drawn from memory rather than from reasoning, and on data-based questions where the uncertainty is ignored.

Biology

SL and HL

The usual companion for medicine-track students. Shares the data and measurement strand with chemistry, so a single block of sessions on data handling serves both subjects and halves the cost of fixing it.

Physics

SL and HL

Shares energetics and the particulate model with chemistry. Students sitting both often carry one laboratory habit across two investigations, which the criteria reward in one subject and penalise in the other.

Mathematics: Analysis and Approaches

HL and SL

Logarithms, exponentials and rearrangement underpin kinetics and equilibrium. A chemistry student who looks weak on equilibrium calculations is frequently weak on logs, which is a cheaper problem to solve.

Mathematics: Applications and Interpretation

HL and SL

The lighter route, common where AA is oversubscribed. Statistical treatment helps with the Scientific Investigation; the thinner algebra leaves gaps in kinetics that need closing deliberately rather than hoped away.

Environmental Systems and Societies

SL and HL

Counts for Group 3 or Group 4. Relevant for a student who is finding chemistry the wrong fit in DP1 term one, while a change of course is still permitted by the school.

Sports, Exercise and Health Science

SL and HL

Offered at some Dubai IB schools as a Group 4 option with substantial biochemistry. Students who move into it from chemistry usually need a short block on energetics rather than a full programme.

Theory of Knowledge

Core

Chemistry students draw on TOK when asked how far a model can be trusted. Assessed separately, but a chemistry tutor who can explain why a reaction mechanism is a useful account rather than a photograph makes the essay less abstract.

Extended Essay in Chemistry

Core · 4,000 words

Needs a question with a measurable dependent variable and a method the school's laboratory can actually run. Most of the cost of a chemistry EE is incurred because the question was agreed too loosely in the first place.

IGCSE Chemistry

Core and Extended

Cambridge 0620 or the Pearson Edexcel equivalent. Lower market rate, larger tutor pool, and the stage at which mole calculations should become automatic. Fixing them here is far cheaper than fixing them in DP2.

How sessions run

Tutoring formats built around UAE school timetables

Three spending shapes, all delivered as one-to-one live video in Gulf Standard Time. The choice is mostly about where your child sits in the two-year cycle, and it changes the total bill more than the hourly rate does.

Weekly one-to-one across the DP cycle

A fixed slot each week from DP1 term two. Around sixty hours across the two years, spread so that organic chemistry and energetics are taught the first time rather than repaired later. This is the lowest total-cost route for a student aiming at Higher Level, and the one families most often skip because the need is not yet urgent.

  • Same tutor and slot held through the term
  • Topic order set against the school's own scheme of work
  • Homework marked against published command terms
  • Spreads the spend across twenty months rather than ten weeks

Short diagnostic block

Four to six sessions to find out what is actually wrong. Suited to a family who has been quoted a long programme and wants to know whether they need one. A marked mock paper read for patterns will usually show whether the problem is content, calculation or timing, and those have different price tags.

  • Starts from the student's own marked assessment, not a placement test
  • Produces a written list of the specific gaps and their weighting
  • Often ends with fewer recommended hours than the family expected
  • No obligation to continue into a longer programme

Pre-examination intensive

Two or three sessions a week through the final revision block, built on timed Paper 2 attempts rather than content delivery. The most expensive route per month and sometimes the right one, particularly where a student's knowledge is sound and their paper timing is not.

  • Full papers sat to time, then marked question by question
  • Triage driven by the student's own mock, not a generic checklist
  • Can move to post-Iftar timing where the block overlaps Ramadan
  • Specialist availability is tightest in this window, so book early

01

What chemistry tuition actually costs an MBR City family per month

Hourly rates are a poor planning tool because nobody buys an hour. Families buy a term. Bestimate's Tutoring Cost Dubai 2026 estimates for a weekly one-hour session put the budget end at AED 240 to 600 a month, the middle at AED 600 to 1,200, and specialist examination-year support at AED 1,000 to 2,000 or more. Monthly packages advertised in this market include AED 799 a month for eight online sessions and AED 1,599 to 1,799 a month for four two-hour in-home sessions.

Those two in-home numbers are the most instructive figures on this page. Four two-hour visits a month is eight hours for roughly AED 1,700, or about AED 210 an hour. Eight online sessions a month at AED 799 is eight hours at around AED 100 an hour. The teaching in both cases may be comparable. The difference is largely a car, parked outside a villa in District One for ninety minutes either side of the lesson, which the family is paying for whether it is itemised or not.

For a Higher Level DP2 chemistry student, plan against the AED 1,000 to 2,000 monthly band and then ask what reduces it. Two things reliably do. Starting earlier, so the hours are spread rather than compressed. And buying the right component — Paper 2 carries 44% of the grade, and hours spent there are worth more than hours spent on the investigation, which carries 20% and absorbs most of the attention because it has a deadline attached.

The table below converts the published hourly bands into the monthly figures a family can actually plan with. The hourly figures are the providers' own; the monthly columns are arithmetic on those figures, not a quote from us.

Where chemistry tuition money gets wasted

  • Test organic mechanism reasoning in the trial lesson, not after twelve sessions
  • Diagnose timing versus content from a marked mock before buying a programme
  • Split hours by grade weighting: Paper 2 is 44%, the investigation is 20%
  • A DP1 start costs fewer total hours than a DP2 rescue block
  • Ask what happens to your fee if a session is cancelled at short notice

Four patterns account for most of the waste we see in Dubai chemistry engagements, and all four are avoidable without spending more.

The first is buying a generalist for a Higher Level course. A science graduate can carry a student through Structure 1 and 2 convincingly and then stall on organic mechanisms, which arrive later and carry more marks. The family has by then paid for twelve sessions and still needs the specialist. The fix is to test the specific weakness in the trial lesson: ask the tutor to walk through a nucleophilic substitution mechanism and explain why the arrows go where they go. A chemistry specialist does it from reasoning. A generalist recites it.

The second is paying for content when the problem is timing. A student who knows the chemistry and scores poorly on Paper 2 is not short of teaching, they are short of practice under a clock. Content sessions at AED 250 an hour do not fix that, and three terms of them have been sold on exactly that misdiagnosis. A marked mock paper read properly tells you which problem you have in one session.

The third is spending on the investigation at the expense of the papers. The Scientific Investigation is 20% of the grade, has a visible deadline and produces a document a parent can see, so it attracts attention out of proportion to its weight. Paper 2 is 44%, has no deadline and produces nothing visible until results day. Families who split their hours by grade weighting rather than by anxiety get more for the same money.

The fourth is starting late. A DP2 February start costs more per hour because specialist availability in the spring is tight, needs more sessions per week, and covers less ground because the student is simultaneously revising five other subjects. The same total spend in DP1 term two buys a better outcome. This is the least popular piece of advice on this page and the most reliable.

03

What the extra money buys between SL and HL Chemistry

Higher Level Chemistry costs more to support than Standard Level, and it is worth knowing why rather than accepting it as a surcharge. The themes are the same — Structure 1 to 3, Reactivity 1 to 3 — and the Scientific Investigation is identical in weight and word limit. What differs is the depth inside each theme and the length of the papers.

The practical consequence is that Higher Level students need more hours on fewer topics. Organic chemistry at Higher Level goes beyond recognising a mechanism to predicting products and reasoning about selectivity. Energetics extends into entropy and spontaneity. Equilibrium acquires quantitative treatment that depends on logarithmic manipulation a student may not have met in their maths course yet. None of those are more hours of the same teaching; they are a different kind of teaching, which is what the specialist band is actually pricing.

For a family deciding whether Higher Level is worth it, the question is not difficulty but destination. Medicine, chemical engineering and most natural-sciences routes expect Higher Level Chemistry. A business or economics route does not. Taking Higher Level for safety and then needing two sessions a week to survive it is an expensive form of insurance, and dropping to Standard Level in DP1 term one — while the school still permits a change — is sometimes the single best financial decision available.

Weightings and durations below follow the current DP Chemistry guide. The IB revises subject guides on a cycle and ibo.org blocks automated checking, so confirm the structure your child is entered for with the school's IB coordinator.

04

Tutoring cost in the context of what you already pay

Tuition spending looks different alongside the rest of a Dubai education bill. KHDA confirmed in May 2026 that private-school fees in the emirate would not rise for the 2026-27 academic year, under Dubai's second economic incentives package valued at AED 1.5 billion within a AED 2.5 billion total. School fees are flat. Tutoring is the part of the bill that still moves, which is an argument for deciding how much of it you want rather than discovering the number later.

The Dubai market itself is growing rather than contracting. The emirate had 387,441 private-school pupils across 227 schools in 2024-25, across seventeen different curricula, with UK curriculum at 37% of pupils, Indian at 26%, US at 14% and International Baccalaureate at 7%. The 2026-27 intake adds seven new private schools, four UK curriculum and three IB, creating 16,846 new places, after six schools opened during 2025-26 and enrolment rose 6%.

Those figures matter to a chemistry budget in one specific way. IB is a small share of a large market, so IB-specialist supply is thin relative to British-curriculum supply, and thin supply is what sustains the AED 200 to 450 specialist band. More IB schools opening does not immediately produce more Higher Level chemistry tutors. It produces more families looking for them, which is a reason to secure a slot before the spring rather than during it.

The table puts tutoring next to the other items so you can see the proportion. School-fee figures vary enormously by school and are not published here as a band; ask the school, or check the fee listed on KHDA's own school pages.

What the in-home travel premium actually buys

The gap between the online package and the in-home package in this market is roughly AED 110 an hour. It is worth asking what that buys, because the answer is not more teaching.

It buys presence. For a younger child who will not sit still for a screen, that is a real product and worth paying for. For a DP2 chemistry student working on equilibrium calculations, it buys a person in the room and costs a specialist. The tutor who can be in District One at 17:00 on a Tuesday is drawn from the set of chemistry teachers living within a drivable radius who are free at that hour. The tutor on a video call is drawn from the set of DP Chemistry specialists free at that hour, which is a much larger set and includes people who teach Higher Level organic chemistry every week.

There is a second cost that rarely appears in a quote. A visiting tutor's travel time is either billed or absorbed into the rate, and in either case the family pays it. A forty-minute round trip through Al Khail Road at 17:00 is a real economic cost whoever carries it. Online, that cost does not exist, and the saving is available to spend on a better-matched tutor instead.

To be unambiguous: IB Gram does not offer home visits in Dubai or anywhere in the UAE. The in-home figures quoted here are what the Dubai market charges for a service we do not sell, included because the comparison is the whole argument.

Paying for help with the Scientific Investigation, and the line nobody should cross

  • Four criteria, six marks each, 3,000-word ceiling
  • Legitimate spend: question design, uncertainty teaching, feedback on the student's own draft
  • Never buy: writing, rewriting, data processing or a supplied research question
  • The consequence of a breach falls on the student, not the provider
  • Free test: can your child explain their own evaluation without the document?

The Scientific Investigation carries 20% of the DP Chemistry grade, caps at 3,000 words, and is assessed against four criteria covering research design, data analysis, conclusion and evaluation, each worth six marks. It is also the component families are most willing to pay for, which is exactly why the boundary needs stating in a section about money.

What a tutor can legitimately be paid to do: interrogate the research question until it has one controllable variable and a measurable outcome the school laboratory can actually deliver; teach uncertainty treatment and error propagation; explain why an evaluation that lists limitations without weighing them scores poorly; and give feedback on the student's own draft against each criterion by letter.

What no amount of money should buy: a written or part-written report, sentences rewritten into the tutor's prose, a research question supplied wholesale, processed data, or a produced evaluation. IB Gram does not sell any of that. One Dubai-facing site in this market advertises completed Internal Assessments at a published price, and buying one is an academic-honesty breach whose consequence falls on the student rather than on the seller.

There is a timing argument buried in this too. Investigation support bought in DP1 term three, while the question is still being chosen, costs a handful of sessions and prevents the expensive problem. Investigation support bought a fortnight before the school's submission deadline is triage on a question that cannot now be changed, data that cannot now be re-collected, and a word count already over the ceiling. Families pay several times more for the second version and get fewer marks for it, which is the clearest example on this page of cost following timing rather than rate.

The parent's test costs nothing. Ask your child to talk you through their own evaluation section, out loud, without the document. If they can explain why each limitation matters and what they would change, the help they bought was teaching. If they cannot, you have paid for a risk rather than a grade.

07

What you can verify about a chemistry tutor for nothing

Before you spend anything, four checks are free and all four are skipped more often than not.

The permit. Private tutoring in the UAE requires a private tuition work permit, introduced by Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023 and issued by MoHRE. It is granted free of charge for two years. MoHRE's own service page, 'Issuance of a New Work Permit — Private Tutor Licensing', lists no fee and a two-working-day completion time through the MoHRE smart app and e-services. Eligible applicants include registered school teachers, government and private-sector employees, unemployed residents, university students and school students aged 15 to 18. Because it costs nothing, a tutor without one has no cost-based excuse. Anyone tutoring without a permit is subject to fines and penalties under the applicable laws; no fine schedule is published, so disregard any specific figure you see quoted.

The accreditation claims. A tutoring operation with premises and staff in Dubai needs a KHDA Educational Services Permit for a training institute, with initial approval first and annual renewal requested at least thirty days before expiry. An individual tutor does not hold one and cannot. A provider presenting an endorsement from KHDA should be asked for the permit number, which KHDA's own listings will corroborate. IB Gram does not hold one and does not claim to.

The rate's source. Ask where a quoted market comparison comes from. Every AED figure on this page names its publisher, which no researched competitor page in this market does for a single figure. A provider who cannot say where their comparison came from is comparing themselves to nothing.

And the ratings. Review markup that a provider writes about itself is not evidence. Two pages in this market display different review totals in different sections of the same page, and one shows a five-star average from twenty reviews next to a claim of far more students. Ask to speak to a current family instead.

Agreeing a chemistry plan, and what we will not sell you

  • Free trial first, rate discussed afterwards
  • A diagnostic block is offered where a programme is not needed
  • No coursework writing, no grade promises, no packaged guarantees
  • Coverage limits are disclosed before you commit, not after

The sequence is short. You tell us the school, the year, the level and the two evening windows that survive your district's school run. We match a DP Chemistry specialist. The first lesson is free, taught by the proposed tutor on a live topic — bring the question your child is actually stuck on. Only then do we discuss a rate, because the right number depends on level, session length and how many weeks are left.

Three things we will decline. We will not sell a long programme to a family who needs a diagnostic block; if four sessions will tell you what is wrong, four sessions is what we will propose. We will not sell investigation writing, at any price. And we will not quote a package that depends on a grade outcome, because no tutor can promise one and any provider who does is selling you something they cannot deliver.

Two practical details families ask about before agreeing anything. Cancellation: tell us before the day and the session moves rather than disappears, because a slot lost to a school trip should not cost you an hour. And frequency: the number of sessions a week is yours to change term by term, which matters most in the final block when some students need three and some need one plus a lot of unsupervised timed practice.

If no Higher Level chemistry specialist is free in your window, we say so. That is a narrow request in a specific evening slot and it is sometimes unavailable, particularly in the spring. The options then are a different weekday, a weekend morning, or a wait. No competitor page in this market discloses a coverage limit, which is itself worth noticing.

Where we tutor

Districts we quote and schedule for

Rates do not vary by district, but the number of hours a family needs often does, because travel time and school finish times change how much of a session is actually usable. These are the communities in this corridor.

District One

Villa plots with no secondary school inside the boundary, so students travel out and back. The practical effect on cost is fewer usable weekday slots, which pushes families towards longer weekend sessions.

Sobha Hartland

The school-dense part of MBR City. Short journeys mean more usable weekday evenings, so a family here can spread the same number of hours across more sessions without paying more.

Meydan

Mixed villa and apartment clusters near the racecourse. Event weekends disrupt fixed Friday slots, so we avoid them and keep the hours on weekday evenings for Meydan families.

Nad Al Sheba

Short school runs but often combined with a younger sibling's pick-up, which narrows the window to roughly 16:30 onwards and makes the first slot of the evening the contested one.

Downtown Dubai

Apartment living where students frequently stay at school for activities rather than return and go out again. Later sessions from 18:00 are the ones that hold, and they hold at the same rate.

Business Bay

High-rise density with long school-bus routes. A 17:15 start costs the same as a 16:30 one and is far more likely to actually happen, which is the cheapest optimisation available.

Al Jaddaf

Across Ras Al Khor from the MBR City districts, with an IB continuum school of its own. Chemistry cohorts here are small, so local one-to-one supply for Higher Level is thin at any price.

Al Quoz

Mixed residential and industrial with several British and Indian-curriculum schools. Earlier finish times make Al Quoz one of the few parts of this corridor where a 15:45 session is realistic.

Sobha Hartland greens and waterfront

The newer residential releases within Hartland. Families here are often new arrivals mid-year, which is the scenario where a short diagnostic block beats a long programme on cost.

Culture Village

The Al Jaddaf waterfront side. A small resident population means almost no local Higher Level chemistry supply, so the online pool is doing all the work regardless of budget.

School ecosystem

IB and Cambridge school communities we support in Mohammed Bin Rashid City

Sobha Hartland and the MBR City districts

Schools inside or adjacent to the district, running British and IB continuum provision. Which one your child attends determines whether you are budgeting for DP investigation supervision or A Level practical preparation, and those are different spends.

  • Hartland International School
  • North London Collegiate School Dubai
  • Kent College Dubai
  • GEMS Modern Academy

The creek side and the central corridor

Schools reached from the Meydan and Nad Al Sheba sides and from Al Jaddaf. Chemistry cohorts in the IB schools here are small, which is the structural reason local one-to-one supply for Higher Level is limited rather than merely expensive.

How matching works

From first enquiry to a tutor who fits

  1. 01

Say what you have been quoted

If another provider has given you a number, tell us. It is easier to explain what sits inside the Dubai market bands than to guess what you are comparing us against, and sometimes the quote you already have is reasonable and we will say so.

  2. 02

    Send the last marked assessment

A marked chemistry paper with per-question marks visible is worth more than any placement test. It usually shows within one reading whether the problem is content, calculation or timing, and those three have very different costs attached.

  3. 03

Free trial with the proposed specialist

A real lesson on a real topic, taught by the tutor we are suggesting rather than a sales call. Ask them to explain an organic mechanism from reasoning. That single question separates a chemistry specialist from a general science tutor.

  4. 04

    Agree hours against grade weighting

We propose a session count split by where the marks are: Paper 2 at 44%, Paper 1 at 36%, the investigation at 20%. If the proposal is fewer hours than you expected, that is the proposal rather than an opening position.

  5. 05

    Review after the mock

The DP2 mock changes the plan. Triage comes from the student's own marked paper, and the final weeks move to timed papers only. If fewer hours are needed at that point, we reduce them.

Why families choose us

What UAE parents tell us matters most

Every figure attributed

The AED bands on this page name their publisher and the band they published. Zero of the six main competitor pages researched in this market cite a source for a single AED figure, and three publish no price at all. You should be able to check a number before you act on it.

No rate card before the teaching

We do not publish a chemistry price list on this page, because the honest number depends on level, session length and weeks remaining. The free trial exists so the teaching is judged before the money is discussed.

Hours split by grade weighting

Paper 2 carries 44% of a DP Chemistry grade and the investigation carries 20%. We propose a split that matches those proportions rather than one that matches which deadline feels closest, which is usually fewer hours on coursework than families expect.

Specialist depth, tested in the trial

Matching checks organic chemistry and energetics specifically, because those are where a cheaper generalist stops being cheap. Ask the proposed tutor to reason through a mechanism in the trial lesson rather than recite one.

The investigation stays the student's work

We coach the question, the uncertainty treatment and the evaluation, and give feedback on the student's own draft. We do not write, rewrite or complete coursework at any price, and we name that limit because other providers in this market do sell it.

Limits stated up front

There are no IB Gram home visits in the UAE and no UAE office. We hold no KHDA, ADEK, MoE or IB accreditation and do not imply one, and we promise no grade. Knowing the limits before you pay is part of what you are buying.

Questions parents ask

IB and IGCSE tutoring in Mohammed Bin Rashid City: your questions answered

How much does an IB Chemistry tutor in Mohammed Bin Rashid City cost?+

Published Dubai market rates for an IB subject specialist run roughly AED 200 to 450 an hour, with TutorChase quoting AED 270 and Bestimate's 2026 table showing AED 200 to 450 or more. Qualified online subject tutors start lower, with Unitors publishing IB tuition from AED 200. Budget online options are advertised from AED 33 to 65 at Tutopiya and EdFlik. Those are the providers' own figures rather than IB Gram prices. We quote after a free trial lesson, because the honest number depends on Standard or Higher Level, session length, and how many weeks remain before the May session.

What should I budget per month for DP2 chemistry support?+

Bestimate's monthly estimates for a weekly one-hour session put the budget end at AED 240 to 600, the middle band at AED 600 to 1,200, and specialist examination-year support at AED 1,000 to 2,000 or more. For a Higher Level DP2 student, plan against the top band. Two things reliably reduce it: starting in DP1 so the hours spread across twenty months instead of compressing into ten weeks, and spending the hours on Paper 2, which carries 44% of the grade, rather than on the investigation, which carries 20% but has a visible deadline.

Why is there such a wide gap between the cheapest and most expensive chemistry tutors in Dubai?+

Because the published spread runs from about AED 33 to AED 650 an hour and covers genuinely different products. At the bottom the tutor is usually a university student, which can be perfectly adequate for MYP homework support. In the middle sits a qualified subject tutor. At AED 200 to 450 sits a specialist who can teach Higher Level organic chemistry and mark to examiner standard. The premium band above that buys reputation more than additional capability for most students. The mistake is paying budget rates for a Higher Level course and discovering the ceiling in week twelve.

Is a monthly package cheaper than paying per hour?+

Sometimes, and the arithmetic is worth doing. An online package advertised in this market at AED 799 a month for eight sessions works out at around AED 100 per session hour. An in-home package at AED 1,599 to 1,799 a month for four two-hour visits works out at around AED 210 an hour. The second is not more teaching; the difference is largely travel, which the family pays for whether it appears on the invoice or not. Check what happens to unused sessions, whether the rate holds if you reduce frequency, and whether the named tutor is guaranteed.

Where do families in District One and Sobha Hartland waste money on chemistry tuition?+

Four places. Buying a generalist for a Higher Level course, then needing a specialist anyway after twelve paid sessions. Paying for content sessions when the real problem is paper timing, which a marked mock would have shown in one session. Spending disproportionately on the Scientific Investigation, which is 20% of the grade, because it has a deadline, while Paper 2 at 44% goes untouched. And starting in DP2 February, which needs more sessions per week at tighter availability and covers less ground than the same spend in DP1 would have.

Does Higher Level chemistry support cost more than Standard Level?+

Usually, and for a reason rather than as a surcharge. Both levels share the same themes and the same 20% investigation, and both weight Paper 1 at 36% and Paper 2 at 44%. The difference is depth: Higher Level organic chemistry moves from recognising mechanisms to predicting products and reasoning about selectivity, energetics extends into entropy and spontaneity, and equilibrium becomes quantitative in a way that depends on logarithms. That is a different kind of teaching rather than more of the same, and it is what the specialist band prices. If the destination does not require Higher Level, that is worth revisiting early.

Is online chemistry tuition cheaper than a tutor who visits the villa?+

On published market figures, yes, and the gap is roughly AED 110 an hour between the online and in-home packages advertised in Dubai. The saving is travel, which is a real economic cost whoever absorbs it. The more important difference is the tutor pool: a visiting tutor must live within a drivable radius and be free at 17:00, while an online specialist only has to be free at 17:00 Gulf Standard Time. IB Gram does not offer home visits in Dubai or anywhere in the UAE, so the in-home figures here describe the market rather than anything we sell.

How many chemistry sessions will my child actually need?+

Fewer than most quotes assume, if the diagnosis is right. A student whose problem is Paper 2 timing may need a block of six timed-paper sessions rather than a term of content teaching. A student with a genuine gap in organic chemistry needs a longer run, because mechanisms have to be built rather than revised. The way to find out is a short diagnostic block of four to six sessions starting from the student's own marked assessment. We will propose that rather than a programme where it is the honest answer.

Can a chemistry tutor help with the Internal Assessment, and what does that cost?+

A tutor can help within clear limits, and the cost is usually a short block rather than a programme. Legitimate work includes stress-testing the research question until it has one controllable variable, teaching uncertainty and error propagation, and giving feedback on your child's own draft against the four criteria of six marks each. What no fee should ever buy is a written or part-written report, rewritten sentences, a supplied question or processed data. The work must be the student's own, and an academic-honesty breach falls on the student rather than on whoever was paid.

Should I be paying extra for a tutor who holds the UAE tuition permit?+

No, because the permit costs the tutor nothing. The private tuition work permit was introduced by Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023 and is issued by MoHRE, granted free of charge for two years, with a two-working-day completion time through the MoHRE smart app and e-services. Eligible applicants include registered school teachers, government and private-sector employees, unemployed residents, university students and school students aged 15 to 18. Because it costs nothing, a tutor has no financial reason to be without one. Tutoring without a permit attracts fines and penalties under the applicable laws, though no fine schedule has been published.

Does a quoted chemistry rate include VAT?+

Ask, and get the answer in writing. We do not state the UAE VAT treatment of tuition fees on this page, because that would need a Federal Tax Authority citation we are not in a position to give, and a confident answer without one would be worth nothing to you. What you can reasonably ask any provider is simply whether the number they quoted is what will leave your account, and whether a tax registration number appears on the invoice. A provider who cannot answer that clearly about their own pricing is a provider to be careful with.

Are chemistry tutoring rates in Dubai higher closer to the exams?+

Effective cost rises, though not usually because a rate card changes. Specialist availability tightens in the spring, so the tutors still free in a specific evening slot are fewer and often more expensive. Families also buy two or three sessions a week instead of one, which multiplies the monthly figure. And compressed teaching covers less ground per hour, because the student is revising five other subjects at the same time. The same total spend placed in DP1 term two buys more. Securing a slot before the final term is the practical response.

How does the cost of chemistry tuition compare with Dubai school fees?+

School fees are the larger and now the more stable number. KHDA confirmed in May 2026 that private-school fees in Dubai would not increase for the 2026-27 academic year, under the emirate's second economic incentives package. Fees vary enormously by school, so check the figure published for your own school rather than a band. Tutoring is the part of the bill that still moves, which makes it the part worth planning. One weekly specialist hour sits around AED 860 to 1,950 a month on published rates; two weekly hours roughly doubles it.

What can I check about a chemistry tutor without paying anything?+

Four things, all free. Whether they hold the MoHRE private tuition work permit, which costs nothing to obtain so there is no excuse for its absence. Whether any KHDA claim is real, since only training institutes with premises hold an Educational Services Permit and an individual tutor cannot. Where any quoted market rate came from, with a URL and a date. And whether review claims are backed by real, countable reviews rather than self-written markup, which two pages in this market display inconsistently within a single page.

What happens if we start chemistry tuition and it is not working?+

Say so and the tutor changes, without a negotiation. A chemistry student who does not trust their tutor will not ask the question they are embarrassed about, and that question is usually the one holding the grade down. The free trial exists to surface a poor fit before money moves, but it does not catch everything and a mismatch four weeks in is not a reason to persist. We would also rather reduce your hours than keep selling them if the diagnosis turns out to have been wrong.

Can we pay for a short block rather than a whole term?+

Yes, and for many families it is the right purchase. A four to six session diagnostic block starting from the student's own marked assessment will usually establish whether the problem is content, calculation or timing, and will produce a written list of gaps with their grade weighting attached. Families often come out of that block needing fewer hours than the programme they were originally quoted. There is no obligation to continue, and if the block shows the school's own support is sufficient we will tell you that.

Get the free lesson before you discuss a rate

If you are weighing up what an IB Chemistry tutor in Mohammed Bin Rashid City should cost, the useful order is teaching first, number second. Tell us the school, the year group, whether your child sits Standard or Higher Level, and send the most recent marked chemistry assessment. We will propose a DP Chemistry specialist and a free trial lesson taught by that tutor on a live topic. Afterwards we will set out the hours we think are needed, split by where the marks actually sit, and the rate for them. If a short diagnostic block is the honest recommendation, that is what you will get.
