IGCSE Home Tutor in Mohammed Bin Rashid City

Most families hiring an IGCSE home tutor in Mohammed Bin Rashid City want one person for several subjects, because one visit is simpler than four. The honest answer is that nobody knows nine IGCSE specifications well, and the ones who claim to are the ones to avoid. This page sets out what a tutor must know per subject to be useful, the questions that catch a generalist, and how IB Gram covers a timetable instead: a specialist per subject, online.

  • A specialist per subject rather than one tutor stretched across nine
  • The detail that proves specification knowledge, listed subject by subject
  • Practical and spoken components described honestly, not glossed over
  • Free trial lesson, then a written account of where marks are going

Nobody knows nine IGCSE specifications. The ones who say they do are the problem

The question behind a search for a local IGCSE tutor is usually practical rather than academic: who can come to the house and help with the subjects that are going badly. In a large-plot district where a visit costs a tutor forty minutes of driving at each end, the temptation is to find one person who can cover several subjects in a single visit. That is understandable and it is the wrong structure, because the thing you actually need is specification knowledge, and specification knowledge does not generalise.

Consider what a tutor has to hold in mind to be useful in one subject. For maths, whether the specification includes a paper taken without a calculator, because the answer differs between the two main boards and determines the whole drill. For a science, whether practical skills are assessed through an alternative-to-practical paper or inside the written papers. For English, whether the student is entered for First Language or Second Language, which are different qualifications. For Literature, which set texts the school chose this year. Multiply that by nine subjects across three possible awarding bodies and the claim to cover them all collapses.

What a generalist delivers instead is homework supervision, which is a real service and worth a real price, just not a specialist one. A student who needs a topic re-explained after a fortnight of illness is well served by it. A student losing method marks in maths, misreading command terms in Biology and answering generically in Business Studies has three different problems, each diagnosable by someone who has marked that paper, and none of them visible to a competent generalist sitting at the kitchen table.

The supply picture explains why this is not simply a counsel of perfection. The people who know a specification best are usually teaching it full time at a school, with a few evening hours a week at most, and those hours go first to whoever asks earliest. Spread across Dubai's many curricula and several awarding bodies, that leaves a thin layer of genuinely specification-literate tutors in any one neighbourhood, and the ones who will drive into a gated villa district at four in the afternoon are thinner still.

IB Gram covers an IGCSE timetable differently: a specialist per subject, delivered one-to-one over live video on Gulf Standard Time, with the specification code confirmed before anyone teaches. We do not send tutors to homes anywhere in the UAE; home visits are a service we offer only in India. The sections below set out what a tutor must know in each subject, the questions that catch a generalist, what cannot honestly be taught remotely, and the series calendar counted backwards.

Nothing on this page promises a grade. What it offers is a way to tell, in the first two minutes of a conversation, whether the person offering to teach your child has taught the examination your child will sit. In a market where several providers overstate their coverage and nobody publishes a limit, that is the more useful thing to hand a parent.

At a glance

  • An IGCSE candidate sits eight to ten subjects, each with its own specification detail
  • Calculator rules, practical assessment and set texts all differ by board or school
  • A generalist delivers homework supervision, which is useful and not specialist work
  • We match a specialist per subject rather than one tutor across a timetable
  • All lessons one-to-one and online; no IB Gram home visits anywhere in the UAE
IB programmes

Every IB programme stage, mapped to UAE school years

What a tutor needs to know changes across the course, and so does the right number of subjects to fund. These three stages carry different answers for a household in this district.

KS3Ages 11-14 · Years 7-9

Years 7 to 9, before any specification applies

No awarding body is involved yet, so specification knowledge genuinely does not matter and a competent generalist is the right choice. What matters is building the two things the IGCSE course assumes and never teaches: fluent algebraic manipulation and confident reading stamina. A student who reaches Year 10 without them spends two years catching up while new content arrives weekly.

Mid-year transfers are common across this part of Dubai, and a transfer from an American, Indian or national system leaves specific identifiable gaps rather than general weakness. For a household here, one diagnostic session that writes down exactly what is missing beats a term of unfocused support.

IGCSEAges 14-16 · Years 10-11

Years 10 and 11, the examination course

Eight to ten subjects sat as external examinations, with tiering decided by the school where it applies. In most subjects the written papers carry the whole grade, so nothing cushions a weak paper. This is the stage where the specification determines paper structure, tier names, calculator rules and how practical or spoken skills are assessed, and where a generalist stops being sufficient.

Dubai schools use more than one awarding body and sometimes different ones for different subjects within the same school. Ask the examinations officer for each code in writing. From this district that single email saves more wasted tutoring hours than any amount of comparison shopping.

Post-16Ages 16-19 · Years 12-13

What the IGCSE grades have to carry

Grades gate post-16 entry, and schools set their own thresholds for A Level and IB Diploma courses. A bare pass at a threshold is not the same as readiness: a student heading for Higher Level sciences or A Level Mathematics needs fluency that a borderline grade does not evidence, which is a different target from general revision.

Schools serving this district offer both A Levels and the IB Diploma after IGCSE, so results decide the shape of the next two years. Households that look up the actual entry thresholds during Year 10 usually buy far less tutoring in Year 12 than those who wait for results day.

Subject coverage

IB subjects we tutor

The argument of this page is that each subject is its own specialism. These are the subjects we cover for households in this district, and for each one the specific thing a tutor must know before they are useful.

Mathematics

Core, Extended, Foundation, Higher

The tutor must know whether a non-calculator paper exists on this specification, because it determines the entire drill. Marks go on algebraic slowness, on multi-step problems with no working written, and on missing final statements in geometry.

Physics

Core, Extended, Foundation, Higher

The tutor must know how practical skills are assessed on this board. Beyond that, the losses are equation rearrangement and standard form rather than conceptual misunderstanding, which is why a maths block often lifts the Physics grade.

Chemistry

Core, Extended, Foundation, Higher

The tutor must be able to say where students lose marks in mole calculations without being prompted. Organic chemistry rewards mechanism detail, and balancing practice underpins every calculation question on the paper.

Biology

Core, Extended, Foundation, Higher

The tutor must teach command terms as instructions rather than as synonyms. Terminology precision and data interpretation carry the marks, and fluent but imprecise writing is the standard reason a grade plateaus.

English Language

First Language and Second Language

The tutor must establish which of the two qualifications the student is entered for before teaching anything, because the components and the criteria differ. Some routes include a spoken element that needs rehearsing in format.

English Literature

Single tier

The tutor must teach the school's actual set texts, which vary by school and by year. A tutor who offers to teach the skill in the abstract has not understood that the questions are about specific texts.

Economics

Core and Extended

Diagram accuracy and percentage work carry the quantitative marks and the evaluation marks are verbal. A tutor who cannot describe what a top-band evaluation looks like will leave a student at the middle of the range.

Business Studies

Core and Extended

Application to the given case study is where the analysis marks sit. The commonest loss is a generically correct answer that never refers to the business in the question, which a competent marker spots immediately.

Computer Science

Core and Extended

Pseudocode conventions differ between specifications, so this is a subject where the code must be confirmed rather than assumed. Number bases and logic are learnable in a handful of sessions.

ICT

Core and Extended

Practical software skills are formally assessed, and the software versions and task formats matter. A tutor needs to know what the school's practical programme has actually covered this term.

IGCSE coverage

IGCSE subjects we tutor

The same subjects viewed by awarding body, because the code rather than the subject name determines what your child sits. Ask the examinations officer for it before booking anything.

Cambridge IGCSE Mathematics 0580

Core and Extended

Under the syllabus in use from 2025, each tier pairs a non-calculator paper with a calculator paper at 50% each. A tutor who never mentions the non-calculator paper has not taught this specification recently.

Pearson Edexcel International GCSE Mathematics A 4MA1

Foundation and Higher

Two papers of two hours at 50% each, calculator permitted throughout. The useful drill here is multi-step problem structuring rather than mental arithmetic, which is the reverse of the Cambridge emphasis.

Cambridge IGCSE sciences 0620, 0625, 0610

Core and Extended

Tiered papers with an alternative-to-practical route available for experimental skills. Which practical option the centre uses changes what revision of experimental method should look like.

Pearson Edexcel International GCSE sciences 4CH1, 4PH1, 4BI1

Foundation and Higher

Practical understanding is assessed inside the written papers rather than through a separate practical examination, so experimental method is revised in writing throughout.

Cambridge IGCSE English 0500 and 0510

First Language and Second Language

Two distinct qualifications with different components, and in some routes a speaking element. A student entered for the wrong one works to the wrong criteria for two years.

Oxford AQA International GCSE

Varies by subject

In use at some Dubai centres and the body most often assumed away by tutors who know the other two. Paper structures differ, so the specification has to be confirmed rather than inferred.

How sessions run

Tutoring formats built around UAE school timetables

Three formats, all one-to-one and online, structured around the idea that each subject is its own specialism. Which applies depends on how many subjects genuinely carry the problem.

Single-subject weekly

One subject, one specialist, one slot a week, with the specification code confirmed before teaching begins. The right arrangement when one subject is dragging, and the right first arrangement even when several look weak, because the underlying cause is often shared and fixing it once shows up in more than one grade.

  • Specification and tier confirmed in writing before the first session
  • Named practice from the correct board, marked before the next session
  • Tier reviewed against the student's own marked work early on
  • Written note to parents on what is moving and what is not

Two-subject split, two specialists

Two subjects, one session each a week, taught by two different specialists rather than one person covering both. This costs the same as a single tutor doing two subjects and delivers two people who have marked the relevant papers. Where the subjects share a cause, the two tutors work from the same written diagnosis.

  • A specialist per subject, not one tutor stretched across two
  • Shared written diagnosis where the weakness is common
  • Separate slots, so neither session is diluted
  • Reviewed after a half-term against both grades

Pre-series intensive

Two or three sessions a week for six to ten weeks before the June or November series, in the one or two subjects that will move. Built from the student's own mock papers and matched to the correct specification's paper structure, with some topics deliberately set aside because the window is short.

  • First session spent marking the mock question by question
  • Whole papers under timed conditions in the right format
  • An explicit, agreed list of topics not being revised
  • Fixed end date, with no renewal after the series

What IB and IGCSE study actually looks like in Mohammed Bin Rashid City

01

What a tutor must actually know, subject by subject

This is the table that makes the argument concrete. For each subject there is one specific piece of knowledge that separates a tutor who has taught the paper from one who knows the subject, and in every case it is checkable by a parent in a first conversation without any subject expertise. None of these is obscure. All of them are invisible to someone who has only ever studied the subject rather than marked it.

Read the middle column as a set of questions rather than as information. If a prospective maths tutor cannot say whether your child's specification includes a non-calculator paper, they do not know which board you are talking about. If a science tutor has no view on how practical skills are assessed, they will revise the wrong thing. If an English tutor does not ask whether the entry is First Language or Second Language, they are about to teach to the wrong criteria.

The right-hand column is the other half of the test. A tutor who has marked the paper knows where the marks leak, and they describe it in specific terms rather than general ones. Students losing method marks, misreading command terms, answering a case study generically: these are named, diagnosable patterns. A tutor who answers a question about losses by saying the student needs to practise more is describing a hope rather than a diagnosis.

One caution on using the table. Specifications are revised, schools change boards, and set texts rotate, so treat every row as a reason to check with the examinations officer rather than as a fact about your child's course. The point of the table is not to make you an expert. It is to let you tell within two minutes whether the person you are speaking to has taught the examination your child will sit.

02

The questions that catch a generalist

  • Name the awarding body and specification code for each subject
  • The subject-specific question from the table, asked cold
  • What practice will you set, from which board, and how is it marked?
  • Which of these subjects would you decline, and why?
  • Where are you based and what time zone do you work to?
  • Do you hold a MoHRE private tuition work permit?

A household in this district will often be offered one tutor for several subjects, usually with warmth and genuine confidence. The questions below separate breadth of knowledge from depth of it, and they are not hostile: a good tutor enjoys being asked because the questions are the ones they would ask on your behalf. A tutor who bristles at them has told you something useful at no cost.

Start with the board. Ask them to name the awarding body and specification code for each subject before you tell them, and accept that a careful tutor may say they need to check. Checking is fine; not knowing that it matters is not. Then ask the subject-specific question from the table above, which takes ten seconds and is decisive. Then ask what practice they will set, from which board's material, and how it will be marked.

Then ask the question that exposes overreach: which of these subjects would you decline? A tutor willing to take all nine has either not understood the request or is prepared to improvise at your expense. A tutor who says they will teach maths and physics properly and would rather someone else took Literature and Business Studies is telling you they know what they know, which is the single most reliable indicator of competence in this market.

Finally, ask where they are based and what time zone they work to. There is nothing wrong with a specialist outside the UAE teaching a UAE student on Gulf Standard Time; several of the strongest subject tutors available to this district are exactly that. The problem is concealment, and several providers ranking for Dubai queries present a local appearance while routing families elsewhere behind a non-UAE number or a price in US dollars. A straight answer costs nothing to give.

03

The First Language and Second Language English trap

This deserves its own section because it is the most consequential silent error in IGCSE entries and almost nobody warns parents about it. English First Language and English Second Language are different qualifications with different components and different criteria. A student entered for one while being taught, tutored and assessed as though they were sitting the other spends two years working towards the wrong standard.

The entry is made by the school, often sensibly, on the basis of the student's language background and the timetable available. Sometimes it is made on the timetable alone. A student with strong spoken English and weaker written accuracy may be placed in one route when the other would reward them better, and a student whose first language is not English may be entered for First Language because that is what the cohort does. Neither situation is scandalous and both are worth checking.

For a tutor, knowing which route applies is non-negotiable, because the mark schemes reward different things. Writing that scores well in one can sit mid-band in the other. Some routes also include a spoken component, which has to be rehearsed in the format the specification sets rather than practised as general conversation, and a tutor who does not know whether a speaking element exists cannot prepare for it.

What to do is simple. Ask the examinations officer which English qualification your child is entered for, in writing, along with the code. If the answer surprises you, raise it early rather than in Year 11, because entry decisions and their deadlines belong to the school and a change becomes progressively harder as the course goes on. Then make sure whoever tutors them knows the answer before the first session rather than discovering it in week three.

04

Practical science, spoken work and what cannot honestly be taught remotely

A page arguing for online delivery has an obligation to say what online delivery cannot do, and the honest list is short but real. Nobody runs a school laboratory over video. A tutor cannot supervise a titration, cannot watch a student handle apparatus, and cannot substitute for the school's own practical programme. Any provider implying otherwise is overselling, and that is worth noticing because it tells you how they will describe everything else.

What can be taught remotely is the part that is actually examined in writing, which on both main boards is considerable: experimental method, independent and dependent variables, controls, reliability, uncertainty, graph work, and the written conventions a mark scheme rewards. Whether that is assessed through an alternative-to-practical paper or inside the written papers depends on the specification, which is one more reason the code matters.

Spoken components are a different case and remote delivery handles them well, provided the tutor knows the format. A speaking element has a structure, a timing and a set of criteria, and rehearsing it over video is closer to the examination experience than an informal conversation at a kitchen table. What matters is that the rehearsal matches the specification's format rather than being general practice in speaking English.

The table below sets out what sits where, so a household can see which parts of a science or language course a tutor can genuinely help with and which belong to the school. Used as a checklist, it also catches a tutor who claims more than is possible, which in a market where several competitors overstate their coverage is a useful filter in itself.

The June and November series, counted backwards

UAE candidates sit the June series and the November series. The February and March series that appears in some online revision material is offered to India only, so it has no place in a Dubai plan, and material quoting it should make you doubt the rest of the document. November functions as the resit route inside the same academic year for both main awarding bodies, which is worth knowing before results day rather than after it.

The published record shows the rhythm. For Pearson Edexcel International GCSE, the November 2026 final timetable ran from late October to 19 November 2026, with results following in January: November 2025 results reached students on 22 January 2026. For the summer series, June 2026 results went to centres on 19 August 2026 and to students on 20 August 2026. Those are past dates, cited so you can see the pattern rather than so you can act on them.

For anything ahead, open the awarding body's live timetable rather than a restatement, including this page's, because Pearson publishes provisional timetables and revises them. There is also an administrative detail almost nobody passes on: Cambridge allocates every centre to one of six administrative zones and states that it is essential to use the correct version of the timetable for your zone, warning that it cannot accept responsibility for candidates who miss an examination after using the wrong zone timetable.

That last point matters practically for a household revising from documents found online. Ask the school which zone your centre sits in and use the timetable they issue. It is a thirty-second question that removes an entire category of risk, and it is the kind of thing a tutor who has worked with UAE centres will raise unprompted.

Online against a home visit, for a multi-subject problem

For a household weighing a visit against online delivery, the multi-subject case is where the comparison tips hardest, and it is worth being precise about why. The variables that matter are whether each subject can be matched to someone who has taught it, what a journey costs in a large-plot district, what happens when a session must move, and whether a person in the room is genuinely required.

Matching favours online decisively. Four subjects taught by four specialists is achievable online and essentially impossible in-home at a sane cost, because it would mean four separate journeys into a gated district. The in-home structure therefore pushes families towards one tutor covering several subjects, which is the structure this page argues against. That is not a criticism of in-home tutors; it is a consequence of how travel time works here.

Cost favours online by the travel premium. Market in-home rates in Dubai run roughly AED 180 to 500 an hour with travel inside the figure, against about AED 150 to 300 for a qualified subject tutor online and AED 200 to 450 and above for a specialist. Those are other providers' published figures, read in October 2026. Rescheduling favours online too: a cancelled visit wastes a journey and is often charged, while an online session moves inside the same week at no cost to anyone.

Presence is the variable where a local arrangement has a real claim, particularly for a student who will not work unless someone is physically there. We will not argue that away, and for that household a local tutor is the right answer with this page's bands to judge the price by. To be unambiguous: IB Gram does not offer home visits anywhere in the UAE, so the choice here is between our online delivery and an arrangement you would make yourself.

KHDA, equivalency and the mandatory subjects alongside IGCSE

Dubai's private schools are overseen by KHDA, the Knowledge and Human Development Authority, described on u.ae as responsible for enhancing and overseeing the quality of private education in the emirate, with annual inspection on a six-band scale from Outstanding to Very Weak. The departmental commentary inside a report is more informative than the headline band, because a strong department can sit inside an averagely rated school and the reverse is equally true.

The scale of the market explains the variability in tutoring. Dubai's private sector served 387,441 students across 227 schools in 2024-25, offering seventeen different curricula, and the 2026-27 intake adds seven new private schools creating 16,846 new places; six new schools opened during 2025-26 and enrolment rose 6%. KHDA also confirmed in May 2026 that there would be no increase in private school fees for the 2026-27 academic year. A market that large, using several awarding bodies, is one where nothing visibly distinguishes a specification-literate tutor from a confident generalist unless a parent asks.

The grades have a later use worth planning for. For UAE Ministry of Education equivalency on the British track, a student must pass five accredited subjects in GCSE or IGCSE certificates with a grade of no less than E or grade 3, and Arabic and Islamic education are not counted among those five, alongside one Advanced Level subject at no less than E or two Advanced Subsidiary subjects at the same grade. One ranking competitor publishes a six-subject requirement, which is wrong. Equivalency is a process the ministry performs, so verify your own case through its attestation channel rather than through any tutoring service, and do not treat tutoring as a requirement for it.

Finally, the mandatory UAE subjects run alongside IGCSE rather than instead of it. KHDA requires Arabic, Islamic Education and Social or Moral Studies in all Dubai private schools regardless of the licensed international curriculum, with requirements to be implemented by the start of the 2025-26 academic year, and separate classes for Arabs and non-Arabs in several of them. On our own position, plainly: IB Gram is not KHDA approved, ADEK approved or accredited by Cambridge, Pearson or Oxford AQA, and does not claim to be.

Getting started from Mohammed Bin Rashid City, and what we decline

Begin with one email to the school's examinations officer asking for the awarding body, the specification code and the tier for each subject you are considering, plus which English qualification your child is entered for. Send that to us with the latest grades labelled as mock or classwork, the teacher comments quoted rather than summarised, and a photograph of one marked script per subject if you have them.

We then propose a specialist per subject rather than one tutor for the timetable, and run a free trial lesson. Use the questions from earlier in this page. Ask the subject-specific question cold, ask what practice will be set and from which board's material, and ask which subjects they would decline. Afterwards, ask for a written account of where the marks are going. If the answer is general, do not book, with us or anyone.

What we decline is worth stating. We will not accept a booking to cover a specification nobody on the team has taught, because the differences matter most in the final eight weeks when there is no time to absorb them. We will not put one tutor across four subjects to simplify a schedule. We will not claim to supervise practical work remotely. And we will not reproduce or distribute syllabus documents, past papers, mark schemes or grade-boundary tables; we reference them and link to the awarding body's own page.

We also disclose, before you book, that a proposed tutor may be based in the UAE or outside it and which, that we send no tutors to UAE homes at all, and that coverage in English Literature with unusual set texts, Computer Science and Oxford AQA specifications is thinner than in maths and the main sciences. If any of that rules us out for your household, better to establish it now than in week three, and the trial lesson costs nothing either way.

Where we tutor

Mohammed Bin Rashid City and the districts nearby

This district sits between Meydan and Al Quoz and holds several distinct communities. These notes describe what each contributes to the practical picture of finding specification-literate teaching.

District One

Large plots, long internal roads and gated access, which limits the number of tutors willing to visit and therefore the number of specifications locally represented. Online removes the constraint entirely.

Sobha Hartland

Denser towers and villas within the wider district, with schools on site that do not all use the same awarding body. A neighbour's recommendation says nothing about specification fit.

Meydan

Immediately west and sharing schools with this district. Families here compete for the same small number of evening slots with the same small number of specification-literate tutors.

Nad Al Sheba

Established schools a short drive south and one of the few nearby communities where teaching staff actually live, which is why practising-teacher arrangements surface from here.

Al Quoz

The corridor's tuition-centre district. Centres usually teach one awarding body, so check which before assuming a class matches your child's entry.

Business Bay

Towers with frequent mid-year arrivals, so Year 10 and 11 transfers are common. A school transfer can also mean a change of awarding body, which needs mapping rather than assuming.

Downtown Dubai

Short journeys and the widest choice of reachable centres, which is the comparison that shows how much of a local quote is access rather than teaching.

Al Jaddaf

Several schools near the creek crossings and a short run from here outside peak hours. Relevant mostly for where cohorts sit rather than where tutors live.

School ecosystem

IB and Cambridge school communities we support in Mohammed Bin Rashid City

Mohammed Bin Rashid City, Sobha Hartland and Meydan

The schools inside or adjacent to the district run British-curriculum routes to IGCSE alongside IB provision, and they do not all enter the same awarding bodies. That is the local reason a single tutor cannot be matched to a whole household's timetable.

  • Hartland International School
  • North London Collegiate School Dubai
  • Kent College Dubai
  • Repton School Dubai
  • GEMS Modern Academy

Al Safa, Al Quoz and Al Barsha

The established British-curriculum schools families here drive to for a particular IGCSE and A Level route. Larger departments stream by tier early, which is when a parent should establish what tier each subject is being prepared for.

  • Safa British School
  • Jumeirah College
  • The English College Dubai
  • GEMS Wellington Academy Al Khail

Schools are named as context for the central-corridor education market; IB Gram has no affiliation, partnership or endorsement arrangement with any of them, and current curricula, awarding bodies and inspection outcomes should be checked on KHDA's own school listings.

How matching works

From first enquiry to a tutor who fits

  1. 01

One email to the examinations officer

Ask for the awarding body, specification code and tier in each subject, plus which English qualification your child is entered for. It takes two minutes and it prevents the two most expensive errors in this market, which are the wrong board and the wrong English route.

  2. 02

Send one marked script per subject

A script shows what no description can: whether marks are going on method, on command terms, on generic answers or on content the student cannot access. It also tells us which subjects genuinely carry the problem and which are collateral.

A specialist per subject, proposed separately

We will not offer one tutor for a timetable. Each subject gets someone who has taught that specification, in its own slot, which costs the same as a stretched generalist and delivers people who have marked the papers.

  4. 04

Free trial lesson, then the cold questions

Ask the subject-specific question without prompting, ask which subjects they would decline, and ask where they are based. Then ask for a written account of where the marks are going. Vague answers are a reason not to book at any rate.

  5. 05

Start with one subject even when four look weak

Weak grades across maths and the sciences usually share one cause, and across humanities usually share another. Fixing the shared cause once shows up in more than one grade, which is cheaper and faster than four parallel arrangements.

  6. 06

Review against the next marked work

Progress is judged on the next piece of marked school work rather than on how the sessions felt. If the named loss has not moved across two pieces, the plan changes rather than the block being extended.

Why families choose us

What UAE parents tell us matters most

A specialist per subject, stated as policy

Nobody knows nine IGCSE specifications, so we do not offer one tutor for a timetable. Four subjects means four people who have taught those papers, which is achievable online and effectively impossible as four journeys into a gated district.

The proof published subject by subject

For each subject we name the one thing a tutor must know and the loss they should be able to describe. It lets a parent tell within two minutes whether they are speaking to someone who has marked the paper.

The English entry route flagged

First Language and Second Language are different qualifications with different criteria, and a student entered for one and taught as the other works to the wrong standard for two years. Almost nobody in this market warns parents to check it.

Honest about what cannot be done remotely

Nobody supervises apparatus over video. We teach the examined written element of practical science and say plainly that technique belongs to the school's own programme, which is also a test of any provider claiming more.

Coverage and location disclosed before booking

We say whether a tutor is in the UAE or outside it, and which subjects are thin. Several providers in this market conceal non-UAE delivery behind a local appearance, and the concealment rather than the location is the problem.

No borrowed credentials and no leaked papers

We explain what KHDA and MoHRE do and link to their own material, and we do not host syllabus documents, past papers or mark schemes. We reference them, so what a student works from is the current version.

Questions parents ask

IB and IGCSE tutoring in Mohammed Bin Rashid City: your questions answered

Can one home tutor cover all of my child's IGCSE subjects?+

Not well. Each subject carries specification-specific knowledge that does not generalise: whether maths includes a non-calculator paper, how a science assesses practical skills, whether English is First Language or Second Language, which set texts a Literature cohort studies. A tutor willing to take nine subjects has either not understood the request or is prepared to improvise. What a generalist genuinely delivers is homework supervision, which is useful for a missed topic and is not specialist work, and should not be charged as though it were.

How do I tell whether a tutor has actually taught my child's subject?+

Ask the subject-specific question cold. A maths tutor should know whether the specification includes a non-calculator paper. A science tutor should have a view on how practical skills are assessed on that board. A Business Studies tutor should mention application to the case study unprompted. Then ask what loss they would expect to find in your child's work, and judge the specificity. A tutor who answers that the student needs to practise more is describing a hope rather than a diagnosis.

Do your tutors visit homes in Mohammed Bin Rashid City?+

No. IB Gram delivers one-to-one tuition over live video throughout the UAE, and home visits are a service we offer only in India. We state it plainly because home tutor is the phrase parents search. The practical consequence for a household in a large-plot district is that four subjects can be matched to four specialists without four journeys, and a session starts when the student is ready rather than when a tutor has cleared gated access at four in the afternoon.

Which English IGCSE is my child sitting, and why does it matter?+

Ask the examinations officer in writing, because First Language and Second Language are different qualifications with different components and criteria, and some routes include a spoken element. A student entered for one while being taught and tutored as though sitting the other works to the wrong standard for two years. Entry is made by the school, usually sensibly and occasionally on timetable grounds alone. If the answer surprises you, raise it in Year 10 rather than Year 11, while a change is still administratively possible.

How are science practicals handled if the tutoring is online?+

The examined written element is taught and the laboratory work is not. Online sessions cover experimental method, independent and dependent variables, controls, reliability, uncertainty, graph work and the written conventions the mark scheme rewards. Handling apparatus belongs entirely to the school's practical programme, and any provider implying they can supervise it remotely is overselling. Whether your child's board uses an alternative-to-practical paper or assesses practical understanding inside the written papers depends on the specification, which is one more reason to get the code.

My child has four weak subjects. Do we need four tutors?+

Start with one. Weak grades across maths and the sciences usually share a single cause, which is arithmetic and algebra, and weak humanities grades usually share writing structure. Fixing the shared cause once shows up in more than one grade, which is both cheaper and faster than four parallel arrangements competing for the same evenings. If after a half-term two subjects have moved and two have not, that is the point to add a second specialist, with evidence rather than guesswork.

Is it a problem if the subject specialist is not based in the UAE?+

Not in itself, provided you are told. A specialist elsewhere who has taught your child's exact specification and works to Gulf Standard Time is a better match than a nearby generalist. The problem is concealment, and several providers ranking for Dubai queries present a local appearance while routing families overseas, sometimes behind a non-UAE phone number or a price in US dollars. Ask directly where the tutor sits and what hours they keep. We answer that before the first lesson and flag it where a subject is only covered that way.

What does an IGCSE home tutor cost in a district like this one?+

In-home one-to-one in Dubai runs roughly AED 180 to 500 an hour with travel inside the figure, and quotes to large-plot districts cluster in the upper half of that range because of access time. Online equivalents sit at about AED 150 to 300 for a qualified subject tutor and AED 200 to 450 and above for a specialist, with packages advertised around AED 799 a month for eight online sessions. Those are other providers' published figures read in October 2026 rather than IB Gram's prices.

Should I ask a tutor which subjects they would refuse?+

It is the most informative question available. A tutor who says they will teach maths and physics properly and would rather someone else took Literature and Business Studies is telling you they know the limits of their own knowledge, which is the most reliable competence signal in this market. A tutor who accepts all nine has either misunderstood the request or intends to improvise at your expense. Asking is not rude, and a good tutor will answer it without hesitation.

Which IGCSE subjects are hardest to cover well?+

English Literature where the set texts are unusual, Computer Science, Additional Mathematics, second languages beyond the commonly taught ones, and any subject entered through Oxford AQA, because fewer tutors have taught that specification. Mathematics, Biology and Business Studies are well covered, and Physics, Chemistry, Economics and English Language are reasonable. We tell you which category each subject falls into before you book, with the fallback stated, rather than accepting the booking and improvising.

Can my child resit IGCSE subjects in November?+

Yes, November functions as a resit route inside the same academic year for both main awarding bodies, which is worth knowing before results day. The published pattern is instructive: Pearson's November 2026 final timetable ran from late October to 19 November 2026, and November 2025 results reached students on 22 January 2026. Entry goes through the school's examinations officer shortly after summer results, and the preparation window is roughly eight to ten weeks, which is enough if the marked script is used to target it.

What timetable should we revise from?+

Only the one the school issues. Cambridge allocates every centre to one of six administrative zones and its guidance states that it is essential to use the correct version of the timetable for your zone, warning that Cambridge cannot accept responsibility for candidates who miss an examination after using the wrong zone timetable. A timetable found online may belong to a different zone entirely. Ask the examinations officer which zone your centre is in, and for future series open the awarding body's live timetable rather than a restatement.

Is there a licence a Dubai tutor should hold, and may I ask to see it?+

Yes, and asking about it is reasonable. MoHRE issues a private tuition work permit under Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023, granted free of charge for two years, with eligible applicants including teachers registered in government or private schools, government and private-sector employees, unemployed residents, university students and school students aged fifteen to eighteen. Applications run through MoHRE's own private tutor licensing service. Those tutoring without a permit are subject to fines and penalties under the applicable laws, though no fine schedule is published.

How many of these nine subjects actually count towards UAE equivalency?+

Five, on the British track. Students must pass five accredited subjects in GCSE or IGCSE certificates with a grade of no less than E or grade 3, and Arabic and Islamic education are not counted among those five, alongside one accredited Advanced Level subject at no less than E or two Advanced Subsidiary subjects at the same grade. One ranking competitor states six subjects, which is incorrect. Equivalency is a process the ministry performs, so verify your own case through its attestation channel rather than through any tutoring site.

With four subjects running, how do sessions survive Ramadan and mock season?+

Yes, and with four subjects running it is one of the clearer advantages of online delivery. During Ramadan sessions commonly shift to post-Iftar slots, with no journey to renegotiate at either end. In mock weeks a session can pause or redirect towards whatever the mock has just exposed. When the family travels the lessons follow the student. Agree which time zone sessions are pinned to if you are leaving the Gulf, and give notice so the slots are held rather than released.

What should I send to get a useful set of recommendations?+

Four things. The awarding body, specification code and tier for each subject, from the examinations officer, plus which English qualification applies. The latest grades, labelled as mock or classwork. The teacher comments quoted rather than paraphrased. And one marked script per subject if you have them, which is worth more than the rest combined because it shows which subjects genuinely carry the problem. With those we can usually propose specialists the same day.

Four subjects means four specialists, not one visit

The convenience of a single home visit is real, and it pushes households towards one tutor covering subjects nobody can cover equally well. The alternative is not more expensive: a specialist per subject, each confirmed against the specification code, costs about what a stretched generalist does and delivers people who have marked the papers. Send the codes, the tiers, the latest grades and one marked script per subject, and we will propose specialists and run the first session free. Then ask which subjects they would decline.
